- 0:00Hey y'all, it's friendly. Welcome back to the pod, Happy
- 0:05Holy Saturday. We are currently right in the
- 0:08middle of Easter weekend and honestly, I think this day is
- 0:13one that we don't talk about enough.
- 0:15We love Good Friday because we see the cross and it is so
- 0:19impactful and significant to sit with.
- 0:22And then, of course, Easter Sunday is so special because we
- 0:25get to see and reflect on the resurrection.
- 0:29But today just feels different. It feels quiet, uncertain and
- 0:36kind of like, OK, what now? There's also not a lot of
- 0:40scripture for this day. And I think if we're honest, a
- 0:45lot of us can relate to this day more than any other.
- 0:49So I just want to sit in this tension and do it not without
- 0:54hope, but actually look forward to the hope that is to come.
- 0:57So of course I am going to press pause and 1st John again, I'm
- 1:01thinking I'm going to resume that on Monday after Easter.
- 1:04But I want to read Luke chapter 23 through verses 54 to 56 over
- 1:11y'all it says it was preparation day and the Sabbath was about to
- 1:17begin. The women who had come with
- 1:20Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how
- 1:24his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared
- 1:28spices and perfumes, but they rested on the Sabbath in
- 1:33obedience to the commandment. OK, so this moment, whenever you
- 1:40think back to it, it's super heavy.
- 1:44Jesus, their Messiah, their one of their best friends, had just
- 1:48died. The one that they followed, they
- 1:51loved, they believed in. He's now in a tomb and all hope
- 1:56seems lost. On Good Friday, we heard it is
- 2:01finished and then Saturday kind of feels like it's hidden and
- 2:07then Sunday is going to declare it is revealed.
- 2:11But they did not know that Sunday was coming yet.
- 2:16And that is what makes this day so powerful because they were
- 2:21living in the unknown. So maybe that's where you are
- 2:26right now in the in between waiting or not really seeing
- 2:30what God is doing. But I just want to say that just
- 2:35because God is silent does not mean that he is still.
- 2:41So between the Old Testament and the beginning of the New
- 2:44Testament, Malachi to Matthew, there were actually about 400
- 2:49years of silence. But God was working.
- 2:53He was preparing the world for the cry of a baby boy, the
- 2:58Savior of the world. And now here again in Scripture,
- 3:02in Luke, he's silent, or so it seems, but he's preparing the
- 3:07world for the voice of a risen Savior.
- 3:11Y'all. God does some of his greatest
- 3:13work in what feels like silence. And then we see the women.
- 3:19Their devotion is just unmatched.
- 3:23They remained at the foot of the cross when almost everyone else
- 3:26fled. They watched where his body was
- 3:29laid. They prepared spices and
- 3:32perfumes and oils to honor Jesus.
- 3:36But what stands out most? They rested in obedience.
- 3:43Even in their sorrow, even in their heartbreak, they chose
- 3:47obedience. They did not let their emotions
- 3:50override their commitment to the Father.
- 3:53And I think that's such a word and truth for us.
- 3:58This does not communicate that you have to numb your emotions
- 4:01or pretend like everything is great in life.
- 4:05They still wept. They grieved the loss of Jesus.
- 4:09But how they responded actually showed what they believed.
- 4:15They understood that this life is temporary, and they knew that
- 4:18God was still worthy even in the waiting, even in the hardship.
- 4:24And they were not prestigious women.
- 4:28They were not important by the world standards.
- 4:31They were ordinary people, but with extraordinary devotion.
- 4:36And it was because of that devotion that I believe they
- 4:40were some of the first to witness the empty tomb, their
- 4:44consistency, it positioned them for revelation and a deeper
- 4:50understanding of Jesus and God's grace ultimately.
- 4:54So I just wonder for all of us, what breakthrough might be on
- 5:00the other side of your obedience.
- 5:04What if staying fully devoted in this season that God has you in,
- 5:09in the waiting, in the silence, whatever it looks like?
- 5:13What if that is actually preparing you for something that
- 5:17you can't even see yet? It's on the other side of the
- 5:20door. And I just want to say it is
- 5:26very hard to grow stronger and what is comfortable and what is
- 5:30known. I'm thinking back to my workout
- 5:34classes. I hear all the time the
- 5:36instructor will say you have to break down your muscles to come
- 5:40back stronger, but even though that is a funny tie in to a
- 5:45workout, I think it is so impactful for this.
- 5:50Growth requires tension. It requires resistance in
- 5:54stretching. Spiritually it is the same.
- 5:58These seasons can break us down, but it's only so that we can
- 6:02depend more on Jesus. And what happens when we depend
- 6:08on Jesus more? We get to experience more of Him
- 6:13because we tap into more of his strength.
- 6:17We see more of his presence and ultimately more of His power
- 6:21within us. So if you're in a season that
- 6:27might feel like this Saturday, where it looks like loss, it
- 6:32feels like defeat and discouragement, where you might
- 6:36not be seeing anything changing, don't let what you see deceive
- 6:41you. Jesus has already defeated the
- 6:45grave. He has already overcome.
- 6:48And this is not the end of the story.
- 6:51God is still writing your story, just as he was when Jesus was in
- 6:56that grave. All hope is not lost.
- 7:00It's actually just arriving. So I want to read Lamentations
- 7:06chapter 3 verses 25 through 33 over y'all because I think it is
- 7:11such a good passage on waiting and just leaves me feeling so
- 7:16encouraged. It says Yahweh is always good to
- 7:21all who trust in him, to the soul who searches for him.
- 7:26It is always good to hope quietly, waiting for Yahweh's
- 7:30deliverance. It is always good to learn
- 7:34patience and humility from a young age.
- 7:38If your burden is heavy and hard to bear, endure it quietly.
- 7:43Bow low in humble submission, for there may still be hope.
- 7:49Offer a cheek to the one who would strike you, and learn to
- 7:52endure insults, for the Lord will not reject you forever.
- 7:58If He causes grief, He will show compassion from the cascading
- 8:03overflow of his endless love. The Lord takes no delight in
- 8:09afflicting anyone with suffering.
- 8:13So a few reflection questions before I move into prayer.
- 8:18First off, is there anywhere in your life where you're in a
- 8:23quote UN quote Saturday season waiting and not seeing what God
- 8:27is doing? Are you choosing obedience even
- 8:32when your emotions feel overwhelming?
- 8:36And what would it look like for you to trust 100% that God is
- 8:41still working behind the scenes? So let's closeout in prayer now.
- 8:48Father God, thank you that even when we cannot physically see
- 8:56what you are doing, you are still working.
- 9:01You are an active God. I just want to pray for every
- 9:06person who's in a waiting season right now, whether that is for
- 9:12financial breakthrough, for relationships, maybe just to
- 9:16experience more of you. God, I pray that you would
- 9:19strengthen their faith and help them stay obedient even in the
- 9:24unknown. Remind us daily that you are
- 9:28good, God, that you are faithful.
- 9:32You are never absent. Your silence does not mean
- 9:36absence. I pray that we would trust You
- 9:41in the hidden places and that we would cling to hope and believe
- 9:46that this is not the end of our story, that as long as we are
- 9:50alive and you wake us up every day, there is purpose, there is
- 9:55intention, and you have more for us.
- 9:57God, Sunday is coming. May we just be excited about
- 10:04that and expectant of all that you have for us today and what's
- 10:08to come. We surrender it all to You,
- 10:11Jesus, in your name. Amen.
- 10:17OK guys, happy Saturday. I hope you all have a wonderful
- 10:21rest of your weekend and continue celebrating what Jesus
- 10:26has done and what's to come. And I will see y'all on the next
- 10:30episode.
