- 1:33Speaker 5: night in a lot of areas. Rain is moving outs

- 1:39Speaker 5: kind of a quiet Saturday before the snow is back

- 2:12Speaker 5: Angie gillen Water from the Gonaal Charleston New Main Association.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Good morning, ang and welcome to the show.
- 2:19Speaker 6: Good morning.
- 2:19Speaker 7: It's Friday again.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Thus Friday again?
- 2:23Speaker 5: All right, as always, our pets pictures posted Dave Alan
- 2:26Speaker 5: Radio on Facebook, also the WHS network Facebook page and
- 2:30Speaker 5: on my x page which is at day Base seventy.
- 2:33Speaker 5: We got a beautiful dog by the name of Garrison.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Tell us about Garrison.
- 2:40Speaker 7: So Garrison was actually one of the dogs that was
- 2:43Speaker 7: in our building when the U haul hit the building,
- 2:46Speaker 7: and he was adopted quickly from the U haul's incident.
- 2:50Speaker 7: But he has found his way back to Kha. The
- 2:53Speaker 7: adopter fell on some hard times, so he is back.
- 2:56Speaker 7: He's available for adoption for zero dollars adoption for he
- 3:00Speaker 7: has been completely sponsored, he's neutered, he's vaccinated. He's great
- 3:05Speaker 7: with other dogs. However, if you have cats, you might
- 3:09Speaker 7: want to pass on Garrison, they get along with.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Not a fan. Not a fan, huh.
- 3:13Speaker 7: Yeah. And let's see, he's housebroken, he's great with kids,
- 3:18Speaker 7: and he's actually a part of our Tales of Hope program,
- 3:20Speaker 7: which is a really really cool and interesting program. He's
- 3:24Speaker 7: currently at a local correctional facility where inmates are teaching
- 3:27Speaker 7: him basic commands like sit, shake, lay, and they also
- 3:31Speaker 7: teach him some pretty cool things. They teach him how
- 3:33Speaker 7: to retrieve their own leash, which is pretty cool. So
- 3:36Speaker 7: he's down there getting getting a little bit smarter than
- 3:40Speaker 7: he was.
- 3:40Speaker 5: I want to talk about that program because we featured
- 3:43Speaker 5: a couple of pets over the years, Angie, that have
- 3:44Speaker 5: gone through that program. Again, it's called Tales of Hope,
- 3:47Speaker 5: and basically what they do is they take some critters
- 3:51Speaker 5: to some local correctional facilities and put and match him
- 3:55Speaker 5: up with some of the folks that are incarcerated there.
- 3:57Speaker 5: And these kind of programs have been proved to be
- 4:00Speaker 5: hugely successful across the country, and I know you've seen
- 4:03Speaker 5: it firsthand.
- 4:05Speaker 7: Yeah, these programs pretty much set these dogs up with
- 4:08Speaker 7: like a basic obedience training, which is a lot of
- 4:11Speaker 7: the times why people return pets to their shelter. Why
- 4:14Speaker 7: people surrender their pets to the shelter in the first place.
- 4:17Speaker 7: So these basic obedience training classes that they get in
- 4:21Speaker 7: these programs set them up for for success from the
- 4:24Speaker 7: point of adoption, which is really great and we're really
- 4:26Speaker 7: thankful for that.
- 4:27Speaker 5: And plus what it does for the folks that are
- 4:30Speaker 5: working with them, the folks that are residents that are incarcerated,
- 4:33Speaker 5: I mean, it's it's very very good for them as well.
- 4:36Speaker 7: Absolutely with our particular correctional facility we work with, they
- 4:42Speaker 7: will send notes back with the dogs, like once they've
- 4:45Speaker 7: completed their program and they're getting adopted, and these notes
- 4:48Speaker 7: are for the new adopters just like, hey, this is
- 4:50Speaker 7: what I learned about, like, for example, Garrison while he
- 4:53Speaker 7: was with me. These are the tricks he knows, and
- 4:55Speaker 7: they are often the most like peer jerking, heartwarming notes
- 4:58Speaker 7: you'll read.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Yeah and well, and it gives them something, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 5: the folks that are incarcerated, It gives them something to
- 5:06Speaker 5: do other than just you know, staring at four walls.
- 5:09Speaker 5: I mean, it actually gives them a purpose. For the
- 5:11Speaker 5: ones that want to do this, and some of the
- 5:14Speaker 5: some of the success stories that I have, I've read
- 5:16Speaker 5: about and seen across the country, Angie, have just been phenomenal.
- 5:21Speaker 7: Yeah, they, Like I said, it's one of the most
- 5:24Speaker 7: tear jerking and heartwarming things for me is when they
- 5:27Speaker 7: come back and those those notes and just like the
- 5:29Speaker 7: story altogether, it's it's really moving.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Talking to Angie gillen Water from the Connealge Charleston Humane
- 5:34Speaker 5: Association with Garrison. This week's Adopt Me Please Pet of
- 5:38Speaker 5: the Week, The Day Alan Show on five eighty Live
- 5:39Speaker 5: is brought to you in part by Morgan to Morgan,
- 5:41Speaker 5: America's largest injury law firm. Got a question here for you,
- 5:45Speaker 5: n gvia the text line, do you know of any
- 5:47Speaker 5: rescues or volunteers who will trap and release cats for
- 5:50Speaker 5: no charge or just to trap? I can pay to
- 5:53Speaker 5: get them fixed. It's irritating the neighbors. They refuse to
- 5:56Speaker 5: help and the litters get more and more.
- 5:59Speaker 7: I don't know of any particular rescue groups that will
- 6:04Speaker 7: go out and maybe do the trapping for you. However,
- 6:09Speaker 7: there are New Hope Animal Rescue offers Spain Hooter vouchers
- 6:12Speaker 7: for residents of particular counties to have animals stay and neutered,
- 6:18Speaker 7: So you might want to reach out with them. They
- 6:21Speaker 7: operate through Facebook and email only. They don't have a
- 6:23Speaker 7: phone number or a building you can visit, unfortunately, but
- 6:26Speaker 7: that was New Hope Animal Rescue. And of course you're
- 6:30Speaker 7: always welcome to go to like any type of tractor supply,
- 6:34Speaker 7: any seed store really is going to have traps that
- 6:37Speaker 7: you can purchase. I know that's kind of like a
- 6:39Speaker 7: big purchase for a one time type of situation, but
- 6:43Speaker 7: you can purchase and set up with any Spain nooter
- 6:46Speaker 7: clinic to get the cat sterilized.
- 6:48Speaker 2: You guys out and about anywhere on this weekend, not
- 6:51Speaker 2: this weekend.
- 6:52Speaker 7: Next weekend is when things are going to start picking up.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Okay, well just mentioning it because tomorrow the weather's going
- 6:57Speaker 5: to be pretty good, but then after that's gonna take
- 6:59Speaker 5: another nose dive.
- 6:59Speaker 2: But in the winter that would not end.
- 7:01Speaker 5: So I just thought maybe maybe you might be out there,
- 7:04Speaker 5: but also a little downtime and to do some things
- 7:06Speaker 5: that the shelter is not necessarily a bad thing either.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Tucks and Tails your big fundraiser coming up April twenty
- 7:11Speaker 5: fifth at JQ Dickets and Salt Works.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Better plan on getting those tickets early.
- 7:15Speaker 7: Angie, Yes, I actually spoke with Amanda, who is pretty
- 7:19Speaker 7: much our you know, our leader in texts of Tales.
- 7:23Speaker 7: She's our director of development, and she said there's about
- 7:26Speaker 7: seventy tickets left, so definitely definitely gets them if you
- 7:29Speaker 7: plan on going.
- 7:30Speaker 5: And this is not till April twenty fifth, so that
- 7:32Speaker 5: should tell you how popular that this event is going
- 7:34Speaker 5: to be. And you you haven't correct me if I'm wrong.
- 7:37Speaker 5: You haven't had it at JQ Dickinson Saltworks in the past.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Have you.
- 7:41Speaker 7: That's correct. This is a new venue for us, and
- 7:44Speaker 7: I prove I will want am extremely excited about the
- 7:47Speaker 7: new venue and how Touches and Tails, Whiskers and Wildflowers
- 7:51Speaker 7: is going to play out.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it is going to be a great, great night.
- 7:56Speaker 5: And again to April twenty fifth, we'll be talking about
- 7:57Speaker 5: it plenty as we head up to. But I did
- 8:00Speaker 5: want to just remind folks they probably need to get
- 8:02Speaker 5: their tickets. They can just go to the website and
- 8:04Speaker 5: get the tickets. You're a website, so there.
- 8:06Speaker 7: Is a Facebook group where you there's a direct link
- 8:09Speaker 7: to purchase tickets. You can also visit the website. It's
- 8:11Speaker 7: kind of hard to find on there. So just type
- 8:13Speaker 7: in tuxes and Tails twenty twenty six on Facebook and
- 8:16Speaker 7: that that will be much easier for you.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Actually I saw that. It's one thing when I was
- 8:19Speaker 5: preparing for the show. That's when I actually saw that
- 8:21Speaker 5: out there. I keep getting these reminders on Facebook that
- 8:25Speaker 5: says an event coming up that you may like. I
- 8:27Speaker 5: think they're trying to tell me something, Angie.
- 8:29Speaker 7: Yeah, I think you need to get those tickets one percent.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Hey, I read on your page that you had about
- 8:36Speaker 2: seventy intakes this week alone, so you definitely could use
- 8:39Speaker 2: some supplies.
- 8:40Speaker 7: Absolutely seventy intakes since Sunday and it's not flowing down
- 8:45Speaker 7: at all. Peerina Chowel products are always appreciated. Cleaning products
- 8:50Speaker 7: right now, our team is really asking for like steel
- 8:52Speaker 7: wool scrubbers and wet food of any brand, as well
- 8:57Speaker 7: as volunteers that are willing to help clean or if
- 9:01Speaker 7: you're not you know, if you're not able to get
- 9:04Speaker 7: down and dirty taking dogs out on walks while our
- 9:08Speaker 7: team gets down and dirty on cleaning them.
- 9:10Speaker 2: And fostering there. I mean I've talked about in the past.
- 9:13Speaker 5: I've got several friends that do the fostering program and
- 9:16Speaker 5: it's a wonderful thing.
- 9:17Speaker 2: It's a great way to help out.
- 9:20Speaker 7: Yes, if you can foster, that is a great way
- 9:22Speaker 7: to have a pet short term and not make that,
- 9:24Speaker 7: you know, fifteen plus year commitment to the animal. I
- 9:28Speaker 7: currently have a foster puppy for Kseyha. It's been wonderful.
- 9:32Speaker 7: We love them. So if you're interested in fostering, please
- 9:34Speaker 7: come up and visit us as well. We could really
- 9:37Speaker 7: benefit from your health right now, all right?
- 9:38Speaker 5: And I did want to mention two that actually we
- 9:42Speaker 5: have a text here why don't Texas, Why don't more
- 9:45Speaker 5: places like children's hospitals, nursing homes and even schools taking
- 9:50Speaker 5: several shelter animals as mascots and support animals.
- 9:54Speaker 7: That is actually a like a really I love that idea.
- 9:58Speaker 7: I just want to put that out there. I don't
- 10:01Speaker 7: know why per se, but I do know like some
- 10:05Speaker 7: places around here, for example, Metro nine to one one,
- 10:07Speaker 7: they had fostered a dog through us and he just
- 10:10Speaker 7: kind of hung out at the nine one one facility
- 10:13Speaker 7: and acted as like an emotional support dog. And now
- 10:17Speaker 7: a couple of years back they adopted him and now
- 10:19Speaker 7: he's just their mascot at Metro nine one one, So
- 10:22Speaker 7: some places do it. I guess maybe why schools aren't
- 10:25Speaker 7: doing it is maybe like a if kids have allergies
- 10:28Speaker 7: or you know, are scared of dogs or anything like that,
- 10:31Speaker 7: So maybe that's why.
- 10:32Speaker 2: But I like the idea of it is a good idea.
- 10:36Speaker 2: And another question for you.
- 10:37Speaker 5: You're quite popular, uh, any update on the progress of
- 10:40Speaker 5: a new shelter.
- 10:42Speaker 7: So we it's something that is just moving at the
- 10:46Speaker 7: speed of a turtle. In the last they are they
- 10:49Speaker 7: are working on paving the road, the driveway per se
- 10:54Speaker 7: of the shelter and breaking ground very very soon. It's
- 10:58Speaker 7: just a lot of you know and you know, crossing
- 11:01Speaker 7: t's dot andys all that, but they are we are
- 11:04Speaker 7: getting a little bit closer than we.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Were on that.
- 11:07Speaker 2: And where's this going to be located? Do we know yet?
- 11:10Speaker 7: So I don't have an exact address quite yet because
- 11:13Speaker 7: there's nothing there, but it is pretty much like a
- 11:16Speaker 7: mile down the road from where the current.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Shelter stays, same general, same general area. All right, Hey, Angie,
- 11:22Speaker 5: it is always a pleasure to talk to you and
- 11:24Speaker 5: keep doing great things you and the team there, and
- 11:26Speaker 5: we'll talk again next week.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Thanks a lot.
- 11:28Speaker 7: Absolutely sounded great.
- 11:30Speaker 5: Angie Gilla Wana Canal, Charleston. You've main association with this
- 11:32Speaker 5: week's Adopt Me. Please put it the week again. Go
- 11:34Speaker 5: to Dave Allen Radio on Facebook, the WCCHS network Facebook
- 11:38Speaker 5: page or at Dave A seventy and ax and you
- 11:40Speaker 5: can take a look at Garrison. He is almost three
- 11:43Speaker 5: years old, around fifty four pounds. He's neutered, he's housebroken,
- 11:47Speaker 5: great with kids, great with other playful dogs. Do know
- 11:51Speaker 5: he's not a fan of cats. Though he's not a
- 11:53Speaker 5: fan of cats. He's free, has adoption if he's covered,
- 11:56Speaker 5: and he's part of this which I just think is
- 11:57Speaker 5: a fantastic program. This Tales of program where they take
- 12:02Speaker 5: animals from the shelter and they send them out to
- 12:04Speaker 5: a local correctional facility to work. I don't know, to
- 12:08Speaker 5: be honest with you, I don't know who's working with
- 12:10Speaker 5: who here. I think it's mutually beneficial because the prisoners
- 12:14Speaker 5: are working with the animals and they're learning from them.
- 12:16Speaker 5: The animals are working with the prisoners and they're learning
- 12:18Speaker 5: from them. They teach them basic commands and so on,
- 12:20Speaker 5: and so then they fill out basically a report. As
- 12:23Speaker 5: Angie tells me, So when you go. If you've had
- 12:25Speaker 5: a dog that's been through this program and you go
- 12:27Speaker 5: to adopt it, you get a report from one of
- 12:29Speaker 5: the inmates that said, this is what we were able
- 12:31Speaker 5: to do with this dog. This dog can already sit, stand, fetch,
- 12:34Speaker 5: you know, do whatever.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I think.
- 12:36Speaker 2: It's a fantastic program. It really really is.
- 12:39Speaker 5: But again, Garrison is our dog this week. About three
- 12:42Speaker 5: years old, fifty four pound male, neutered, house broken, great
- 12:46Speaker 5: with kids, other playful dogs, but not with cats. His
- 12:48Speaker 5: adoption fee is sponsored. He's a great, great looking dog.
- 12:51Speaker 5: He came from the shelter, was adopted out, and the
- 12:54Speaker 5: new owners had to bring him back through no fault
- 12:56Speaker 5: of the dog. The owners themselves had some issues, fell
- 12:59Speaker 5: on a hard times is a way that Angie put it,
- 13:01Speaker 5: and so they surrendered him back to the shelters. So
- 13:04Speaker 5: it's a great looking dog. Go take a look at
- 13:07Speaker 5: his picture on one of my social media pages, The

- 16:27Speaker 5: You know, it's been a it's been a world win
- 16:29Speaker 5: of a couple of weeks for the coal industry. And
- 16:31Speaker 5: we talked about, you know, the meeting with President Trump
- 16:34Speaker 5: in Washington, some positive news from the cold industry. But
- 16:37Speaker 5: then just a couple of days later, we get worried
- 16:38Speaker 5: of about five hundred jobs being cut, primarily logan in
- 16:42Speaker 5: Wyoming counties. To so to say, Chris, it's been an
- 16:45Speaker 5: up and down week or so for the cold industry
- 16:48Speaker 5: would be an.
- 16:48Speaker 11: Understatement, absolutely, David. You know, you mentioned world Win. We've
- 16:53Speaker 11: been on a world win you know, tour for you know,
- 16:57Speaker 11: a decade or longer in this business with you know,
- 17:00Speaker 11: last week was especially bittersweet.
- 17:04Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:04Speaker 11: On one hand, we were with the President as he
- 17:07Speaker 11: was announcing a number of projects that were going forward
- 17:10Speaker 11: to help the state's coal industry and our coal fired
- 17:13Speaker 11: power stations, and he was also announcing some other initiatives
- 17:18Speaker 11: that were underway. Then you know, by the time we
- 17:20Speaker 11: got home, we've heard the news of you know, five
- 17:23Speaker 11: hundred plus miners receiving their warn notices in southern West Virginia.
- 17:30Speaker 11: And that comes on the heels of course of you know,
- 17:33Speaker 11: a couple of hundred miners up in Tucker County at
- 17:35Speaker 11: the Metiki mine the week before. So it's, uh, you know,
- 17:39Speaker 11: it's we're we're experiencing both sides of that pendulum here
- 17:44Speaker 11: within a couple of within a very compressed period of time.
- 17:47Speaker 11: But but what it does it underscores, UH, you know,
- 17:50Speaker 11: the challenges that we're looking at currently as an industry.
- 17:55Speaker 11: We do have a couple of minds that have that
- 17:58Speaker 11: have announced the closure or or cutbacks. We still have
- 18:04Speaker 11: a couple of you know, in state power facilities operating
- 18:09Speaker 11: less than full capacity. UH. And we have a number
- 18:13Speaker 11: of other challenges with getting our coal fired electrons onto
- 18:18Speaker 11: the grid and through t j M. And we've noted
- 18:21Speaker 11: and our Division of Energy has found that there's some
- 18:24Speaker 11: restrictions in those outlets from West Virginia to the to
- 18:30Speaker 11: the grid. So there's a lot of things coming together
- 18:33Speaker 11: that are very troublesome and present challenges that we're going
- 18:37Speaker 11: to have to work through.
- 18:38Speaker 5: We'll talked to Chris Hamplon again from the West Virginia
- 18:40Speaker 5: Coal Association. I want to go back to the to
- 18:43Speaker 5: the good News for a moment. We had you on
- 18:44Speaker 5: Metro News midday talk about to talk to some other
- 18:47Speaker 5: people's where about it was well about the trip to Washington,
- 18:50Speaker 5: UH and the meeting that you had with the with
- 18:52Speaker 5: the president up there. What what what was your takeaway
- 18:56Speaker 5: from that meeting and the remarks that President Trump made.
- 18:59Speaker 11: That day, Well, we just can't express our appreciation for
- 19:05Speaker 11: everything that President Trump has done and continues to do
- 19:10Speaker 11: to boost the you know, our our coal industry. Uh,
- 19:13Speaker 11: there's no question about it. He wants to do everything
- 19:16Speaker 11: he's capable of helping us, uh, ensure the long term
- 19:20Speaker 11: ability of this industry to continue its employment numbers and
- 19:25Speaker 11: to grow it's uh it's coal producing assets, both from
- 19:30Speaker 11: an operational standpoint, to be able to more effectively compete
- 19:34Speaker 11: on the export market with our strong metallurgical coals and
- 19:38Speaker 11: and also uh, you know our coal fired uh you
- 19:41Speaker 11: know the power power generators. Uh. You know, he's making
- 19:45Speaker 11: money available that under the previous administration was being was
- 19:49Speaker 11: being made available for renewable energy sources.
- 19:54Speaker 12: Uh.
- 19:54Speaker 11: And he's he's doing everything he can to you know,
- 19:57Speaker 11: make those dollars available to upgrade, modernize all of our
- 20:01Speaker 11: coal plants. He's ordered some plants that were set for
- 20:04Speaker 11: closure to continue to operate as long as humanly possible.
- 20:09Speaker 11: And that's what he wants to see. And he's also
- 20:11Speaker 11: interested in new coal, fair generation, new coking facilities. So
- 20:16Speaker 11: hopefully we get we can get in line real soon
- 20:19Speaker 11: and be real aggressive through our state coal team, which
- 20:25Speaker 11: includes the you know, the governor, to our to our
- 20:28Speaker 11: minor operators, to our working miners, and and our legislative
- 20:32Speaker 11: leaders to formulate a dynamic team with our congressional reps
- 20:36Speaker 11: and go after everything we can possibly get while President
- 20:41Speaker 11: Trump's in office. It's truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.
- 20:44Speaker 11: We've never ever have seen this in our business before.
- 20:49Speaker 5: Christ I got a question on the text line here
- 20:51Speaker 5: for you, and I'm gonna go ahead, and I know
- 20:53Speaker 5: you're good about about taking questions. It says, does Chris
- 20:56Speaker 5: see a huge comeback for coal when all these data
- 20:59Speaker 5: centers get powered up and realize that this is alternative
- 21:02Speaker 5: energy cannot provide enough power for them. That's a great question.
- 21:06Speaker 11: It's a great question. That's pretty simple answer. Yes, we
- 21:09Speaker 11: are the battery right here are State of West Virginia
- 21:12Speaker 11: for future growth within the data center and other industrial facilities.
- 21:16Speaker 11: Just like New Core. We have that ability. We have
- 21:20Speaker 11: the ability to literally double the output of our existing
- 21:26Speaker 11: in state coal fired power facilities, and that will also
- 21:30Speaker 11: double the coal supplies. Now, this isn't going to happen
- 21:33Speaker 11: every night, but we have a bill in the legislature
- 21:36Speaker 11: right now that we've been working on, you know, which
- 21:39Speaker 11: provides some incentives to our coal fired power facilities to
- 21:45Speaker 11: be able to generate the power for these existing and
- 21:49Speaker 11: for new incoming data centers. I mean, we have the
- 21:53Speaker 11: ability to plug. We don't have to wait till micro
- 21:56Speaker 11: grids are built, which will likely not be completed until
- 22:01Speaker 11: a five to seven year timeframe. We can bring data
- 22:05Speaker 11: centers in here to the state of West Virginia today
- 22:11Speaker 11: and plug them right into the Mountaineer Plant, the John
- 22:14Speaker 11: Amos Plant, the Mitchell and Harrison power stations up north,
- 22:19Speaker 11: and then we can run these plants at the optimum
- 22:21Speaker 11: efficiency levels, the optimum capacity levels that they're designed to
- 22:26Speaker 11: operate at.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Chris, when we talk about pardon upon fueling the country,
- 22:32Speaker 5: where does coal in twenty twenty six currently stand among gas, solar, wind,
- 22:38Speaker 5: all the other all the other outlets, where does coal stand?
- 22:42Speaker 11: You know, we've had a pretty good bump in the
- 22:46Speaker 11: burn demands placed on our coal fire generators, mainly because
- 22:51Speaker 11: of the inclement weather and the difficulty of other based
- 22:54Speaker 11: fuels and intermittent fuels to meet that demand. So we're
- 22:58Speaker 11: back up above twenty twenty three percent and you know,
- 23:03Speaker 11: that's that's a less than half of where we were
- 23:06Speaker 11: twenty years ago, but it's still you know, very very critical.
- 23:11Speaker 11: You know, we're going to need every every amp, every
- 23:13Speaker 11: electron from every fuel producing source going forward. And we
- 23:18Speaker 11: have the ability to maximize our co assets here, but
- 23:22Speaker 11: then to add to those assets, you know, with other
- 23:24Speaker 11: based fuels and for new and with new coal generation
- 23:28Speaker 11: going forward. I mean, the projections out there ten fifteen,
- 23:32Speaker 11: twenty years from now are so phenomenal, such an increase
- 23:37Speaker 11: in demand that it's going to take everything from every
- 23:42Speaker 11: every fuel source to meet that demand.
- 23:44Speaker 5: Chris, it seems to me like sometimes and this is
- 23:47Speaker 5: this is an outsider looking in that sometimes that these
- 23:51Speaker 5: different outlets for energy mentioned solar, when gas and cults,
- 23:56Speaker 5: and specifically let me focus on gas and coal, it
- 23:58Speaker 5: seems like that there is a bit and I don't
- 24:00Speaker 5: know if rivalry is the right word, but a little
- 24:03Speaker 5: back and forth sometimes between the gas industry and the
- 24:06Speaker 5: coal industry. Ken can both industries work together to do
- 24:10Speaker 5: what America needs?
- 24:13Speaker 11: Oh, I think they absolutely can, and I think we've
- 24:15Speaker 11: shown the ability to do that over the years. But
- 24:19Speaker 11: you know, it gets a little bit contentuous when when
- 24:22Speaker 11: there's encroachment involved, and by that I mean when one
- 24:25Speaker 11: tries to encroach and and take the market from another
- 24:30Speaker 11: within certain areas, then that obviously creates conflict. We're just
- 24:35Speaker 11: so much better than that. We do not need to
- 24:37Speaker 11: be trading one energy job for another, particularly with all
- 24:42Speaker 11: this growth on the horizon, you know, and that that
- 24:46Speaker 11: really puts a lot of pressure frankly on our executive
- 24:50Speaker 11: and legislature, you know, to keep the keep everybody in
- 24:54Speaker 11: their lane. And but yet let's, uh, you know, let's
- 24:57Speaker 11: develop the kinds of state program here that allows both
- 25:01Speaker 11: industries to really thrive. And yes, we think we can
- 25:07Speaker 11: see maximum development from both industries. But again, there has
- 25:13Speaker 11: to be a pretty pretty strong leadership to keep these
- 25:16Speaker 11: industries working together and within their own lanes. You know,
- 25:20Speaker 11: there's a report of a coal fired power plant being
- 25:23Speaker 11: replaced by a gas plant up north, and that you know,
- 25:27Speaker 11: just causes a lot of a lot of tension and
- 25:30Speaker 11: potential conflict. But you know, with strong, strong leadership and
- 25:36Speaker 11: with a strong energy strategy, I believe we can you know,
- 25:40Speaker 11: stay focused and maximize the output of all of our
- 25:44Speaker 11: natural resources.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Tudor Chris Hamilton, President of Cold Association, of Dave Allan

- 25:59Speaker 2: Chris.
- 26:00Speaker 5: One final question for you. Anytime that we talk about coal,
- 26:03Speaker 5: whether I have you on or I have anybody you
- 26:05Speaker 5: know associated with call anybody that's touting coal, usually get
- 26:08Speaker 5: you know, I get a lot of text or comments
- 26:11Speaker 5: online or whatever about we need to move beyond coal.
- 26:14Speaker 5: You know, coal is so nineteenth and twentieth century and
- 26:17Speaker 5: we just need to It's dirty. We just need to
- 26:19Speaker 5: put it behind us. To all of those naysayers. And
- 26:23Speaker 5: you've been hearing this your entire career, but specifically right now,
- 26:27Speaker 5: as I said in twenty twenty six, when people are
- 26:29Speaker 5: saying it's time to move on to those folks, you would.
- 26:32Speaker 11: Say, what, oh, I would say that you know, they
- 26:36Speaker 11: really need to, you know, take a closer in depth
- 26:39Speaker 11: look at our industry and all the technological advancements and
- 26:43Speaker 11: modernization that's that's occurred over the last twenty years. And
- 26:48Speaker 11: when you go into an underground line today, I mean
- 26:51Speaker 11: it's a real eye opener. It's a it's a Star
- 26:55Speaker 11: Wars tech all of it.
- 26:56Speaker 2: It's like going into the bat Cave. I mean literally
- 26:58Speaker 2: it is.
- 26:59Speaker 5: It's like going into the back cave from the television
- 27:01Speaker 5: show with the with the computers and everything that are
- 27:03Speaker 5: down there. Now.
- 27:04Speaker 11: Yeah, if we call Star Wars technologies, I mean you
- 27:07Speaker 11: have you have minds that are completely computerized. High skilled
- 27:11Speaker 11: miners uh, you know, operate in these machines from great
- 27:15Speaker 11: distances away on little game boys and computerized the you
- 27:20Speaker 11: know what. You see your grandson and son operating in
- 27:23Speaker 11: these in the bedroom today. I mean, it's just phenomenal.
- 27:25Speaker 11: And they're standing of the state. Now, there's still hazards
- 27:28Speaker 11: and those have to be controlled, and everybody focuses on
- 27:33Speaker 11: industrial mind safety, no question about that. That's paramount to
- 27:37Speaker 11: all the other goals. But hey, people come from all
- 27:40Speaker 11: over the world to see how we do it here
- 27:43Speaker 11: because nobody does it better. There's no better trained and
- 27:46Speaker 11: qualified miners than what we have here. And they just
- 27:50Speaker 11: take such pride and sophistication in the work that they do.
- 27:54Speaker 11: And we're just so proud of them and the same.
- 27:56Speaker 11: Look there coal fired power facilities. You know, you and
- 27:59Speaker 11: I right by John Aims and see this huge industrial facility.
- 28:05Speaker 11: But it's state of the art. Also, all of our
- 28:08Speaker 11: plants in West Virginia are fully compliant with every single
- 28:11Speaker 11: aspect of existing federal law, and we're very proud of that.
- 28:14Speaker 11: You ride by, you see a little water, vapor, steam,
- 28:17Speaker 11: no admission whatsoever. There's not a you know, there's not
- 28:21Speaker 11: a more efficient industrial facility than one of our eight
- 28:27Speaker 11: the in state coal plants here.
- 28:30Speaker 5: All right, it's Chris Hamilton, President Westervirginia Cold Association. Always
- 28:33Speaker 5: a pleasure to talk to you and we'll be talking

- 30:54Speaker 5: Welcome to the show.
- 30:55Speaker 6: Good morning Dave, Thanks for having me, Thank you for
- 30:57Speaker 6: being Explain the district to us. A little convoluted in
- 31:02Speaker 6: West Virginia, weird, right, So it's south of the river
- 31:06Speaker 6: in Putnam County, so Winfield, Tayese Valley, Hurricane Scott Depot.
- 31:11Speaker 6: It's Cable County, just a little bit past Milton and
- 31:15Speaker 6: parts of Ona. Then it goes north over to the river,
- 31:18Speaker 6: includes all of Mason County and then the western part
- 31:21Speaker 6: of Jackson County, so Ripley, Ravenswood, Evans, Cottageville, that area.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Give us your by. Who is Travis Wilding.
- 31:30Speaker 6: So I was born and raised in West Virginia. I've
- 31:32Speaker 6: spent my entire life between Putnham Mason County. Graduated from
- 31:34Speaker 6: Point Pleasant High School. My dad grew up in Putnam
- 31:38Speaker 6: County out on Red House Hill, so we're really rooted here.
- 31:42Speaker 6: I did twenty four years in the West Virginia Army
- 31:45Speaker 6: National Guard. It truly was the greatest privilege that I've
- 31:49Speaker 6: had in my life. It taught me a lot about service,
- 31:53Speaker 6: not only to my country and my state, but to
- 31:57Speaker 6: one another, to my fellow citizen.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Is right.
- 32:01Speaker 6: I work in finance now, so I run my own
- 32:03Speaker 6: business in Tayses Valley. So graduated from Marshall and you see, uh,
- 32:07Speaker 6: I also teach it, you see, right, So every every
- 32:10Speaker 6: couple of years I'll go back and teach a class.
- 32:12Speaker 6: And it's just it's just my way to kind of
- 32:13Speaker 6: give back and pay it forward as well.
- 32:16Speaker 5: You mentioned your your military service, what what were some
- 32:20Speaker 5: of the things that you learned, uh, in the in
- 32:24Speaker 5: the military that you think would transition if you are
- 32:27Speaker 5: elected to make you a good legislator.
- 32:31Speaker 6: So that's a really good question, Dave. And I'm taking
- 32:34Speaker 6: kind of the path less less traveled on this with
- 32:37Speaker 6: this political campaign. And I'm really focused on values. And
- 32:39Speaker 6: that's really at least when I joined the army, they
- 32:42Speaker 6: were really, uh, they really pushed that hard.
- 32:44Speaker 8: Right.
- 32:44Speaker 6: It taught me about loyalty, It taught me about duty, respect,
- 32:48Speaker 6: selfless service, honor, integrity, personal courage. And I really think
- 32:52Speaker 6: that those value values don't replace good policy, but values
- 32:56Speaker 6: absolutely drive good policy. And I think I think that
- 33:01Speaker 6: really has set me apart throughout my life. That coupled
- 33:06Speaker 6: with honestly just my faith in general. Right, I'm proud
- 33:10Speaker 6: to be a Christian, and those values as Christian values,
- 33:14Speaker 6: is those military values really I think give me a
- 33:17Speaker 6: leg up. Additionally, it gives me the opportunity to work
- 33:23Speaker 6: and understand people from various different backgrounds, help get them
- 33:28Speaker 6: on the same page in order to accomplish the overall
- 33:31Speaker 6: mission right the end state. Beginning with the end in
- 33:34Speaker 6: mind is crucial. So again, I think I'm in a
- 33:38Speaker 6: unique position. I did spend most of my time in
- 33:41Speaker 6: combat arms units, so I have a really heavy operational
- 33:45Speaker 6: background from the army's perspective, and again that gives me,
- 33:50Speaker 6: It gives me some rare insight on how to get
- 33:51Speaker 6: things done in an efficient and effective way.
- 33:54Speaker 5: So, with all this that you've done, with your military background,
- 33:57Speaker 5: with your stuff in the world of nants and everything,
- 34:01Speaker 5: why do you want to be a state senator?
- 34:04Speaker 6: It's we have a lot of opportunity, especially in my
- 34:09Speaker 6: district and especially in West Virginia. I really believe I
- 34:12Speaker 6: know you just said Chris On there, he's a great guy,
- 34:14Speaker 6: and Cole is important, but I really believe that the
- 34:17Speaker 6: people are what is West Virginia's number one resource. And
- 34:21Speaker 6: West Virginias don't ask for much. They ask for the
- 34:24Speaker 6: ability to get an honest day's work. They ask for
- 34:27Speaker 6: the ability to send their kids to school in a safe,
- 34:31Speaker 6: enriching environment. Right, they deserve somebody that represents them, that
- 34:37Speaker 6: is going to respect them enough to give them the
- 34:39Speaker 6: truth and not just the canned political responses. And also
- 34:44Speaker 6: somebody that doesn't forget who they work for. They need
- 34:48Speaker 6: an ally, they need a representative that's going to fight
- 34:50Speaker 6: for them and and not minimize their position.
- 34:55Speaker 5: There are others, including the acumbent running for the seat.
- 34:58Speaker 5: Why do you feel you're the better cam because I
- 35:05Speaker 5: I understand what it's like.
- 35:08Speaker 6: I haven't forgotten where I come from. I've had some
- 35:13Speaker 6: some rough times in my life. You know, I don't.
- 35:14Speaker 3: I don't.
- 35:15Speaker 6: I wasn't raised by politics, right, I was raised by
- 35:18Speaker 6: West Virginia. I know what it's like to be doing,
- 35:22Speaker 6: to be a young man, doing all the right things,
- 35:24Speaker 6: working your tail off, and not be able to get ahead,
- 35:27Speaker 6: and still have to choose sometimes who gets to eat tonight,
- 35:30Speaker 6: me or my children. And it's not for lack of effort,
- 35:33Speaker 6: it's not for lack of hard work or dedication. It's
- 35:36Speaker 6: there are problems that we that exist. And I feel
- 35:39Speaker 6: like I kept coming back to the same answer, Dave.
- 35:42Speaker 6: If I've got the opportunity to make things one percent
- 35:46Speaker 6: better for me, for others, for our children, and I
- 35:50Speaker 6: just choose not to take that opportunity, I don't know
- 35:53Speaker 6: what that says about me as a man. So for me,
- 35:55Speaker 6: it's it's I'm doing it on principle. I'm not doing
- 35:59Speaker 6: it out of ego. I couldn't care less about a title.
- 36:03Speaker 6: I'm there to serve the people of West Virginia period,
- 36:07Speaker 6: end of story.
- 36:08Speaker 5: Would you be open to a debate or participating in
- 36:11Speaker 5: candidates forums and things of that nature.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 36:15Speaker 6: I think one of the one of the biggest issues
- 36:18Speaker 6: we have across the legislature today is that, and honestly
- 36:22Speaker 6: just in society that a lot of us have forgotten
- 36:24Speaker 6: how to communicate with one another. Right, we can have discourse.
- 36:27Speaker 6: Discourse is healthy, but we have to be able to
- 36:29Speaker 6: work together to come up with it with better solutions.
- 36:32Speaker 6: So yeah, I'm I'm more than happy to do anything
- 36:35Speaker 6: like that.
- 36:36Speaker 2: How's the campaign been so far?
- 36:39Speaker 3: You know what, It's been a learning curve.
- 36:41Speaker 6: Like I said, I don't come from I'm really kind
- 36:43Speaker 6: of a political outsider in West Virginia, So I'm the
- 36:46Speaker 6: learning curve was deep in the beginning, just you know,
- 36:48Speaker 6: understanding the ins and outs. But it has been incredibly
- 36:51Speaker 6: rewarding being out in the community and actually listening to
- 36:54Speaker 6: people and hearing, hearing what they're saying.
- 36:57Speaker 5: And it is and what are they saying? Travis, if
- 36:59Speaker 5: you don't mind asking what what are you hearing? When
- 37:01Speaker 5: you were going out door to door or whatever, what
- 37:03Speaker 5: are you hearing?
- 37:03Speaker 2: From people.
- 37:04Speaker 3: So, you know, my district's a little unique, right.
- 37:06Speaker 6: We have a lot of a lot of new facilities coming, right,
- 37:10Speaker 6: We've got the new core facility. We've got you know
- 37:13Speaker 6: time X that's that's over towards the Ravenswo area. We've
- 37:16Speaker 6: got like Frontiers and Fidelis that they're supposed to be coming.
- 37:19Speaker 6: You know, they're talking data centers, and people are concerned, right.
- 37:23Speaker 6: They they they're glad that we are getting jobs because
- 37:26Speaker 6: they all want their children and grandchildren of the ability
- 37:29Speaker 6: to stay in West Virginian work. But they're concerned because
- 37:32Speaker 6: we have a lot of growth coming. We have a
- 37:34Speaker 6: lot of new jobs, and they don't feel like they're ready.
- 37:37Speaker 6: They're concerned that the data centers are gonna affect their
- 37:41Speaker 6: water supply. I've talked to a lot of folks that's
- 37:43Speaker 6: still they don't have h running water where they live, right,
- 37:47Speaker 6: And they don't live out you know, way out in
- 37:49Speaker 6: the holler. They they're fairly close to civilization and they
- 37:52Speaker 6: still don't have running water. I hear a lot of
- 37:55Speaker 6: people concerned about the state of the school system, right,
- 37:59Speaker 6: and and some of the things that are coming down
- 38:01Speaker 6: the line. People are afraid in some cases to send
- 38:05Speaker 6: their kids to school because they don't know what's going
- 38:07Speaker 6: to happen to them. That those are the issues that
- 38:11Speaker 6: I'm really seeing.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Do you have a website or social medium that you
- 38:15Speaker 2: to direct people to?
- 38:16Speaker 3: I absolutely do.
- 38:17Speaker 6: The website is Willard for WV, and the Facebook is
- 38:21Speaker 6: the same Willard for WV.
- 38:23Speaker 5: So I'm kind of interested how closely I know that
- 38:27Speaker 5: you know, you said you're an outsider, uh, and you're
- 38:30Speaker 5: running your business, and you're got a family and so
- 38:32Speaker 5: on this sword. But I know that you've been watching
- 38:35Speaker 5: as best you can the legislature up to this point.
- 38:39Speaker 5: What have you thought about this session so far?
- 38:43Speaker 6: You know, I see a lot, I see a lot
- 38:45Speaker 6: of canned political responses. I see a lot of people
- 38:48Speaker 6: that are more concerned with getting likes and views on
- 38:52Speaker 6: their social media or than actually providing actual solutions.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Right we talk.
- 38:59Speaker 6: You know, the the budget or the income tax cuts
- 39:02Speaker 6: has been all over the place, and everybody's talking about
- 39:05Speaker 6: cutting it by you know, ten percent income tax cuts.
- 39:08Speaker 6: Of course, everybody wants to pay less taxes. But what
- 39:11Speaker 6: I'm hearing from from the people in my district is
- 39:13Speaker 6: that when they understand that, you know, a ten percent
- 39:16Speaker 6: income tax cut for the media in West Virginia. That's
- 39:18Speaker 6: that's going to be about two dollars and fifty cents
- 39:20Speaker 6: a week for the household extra, right, They would much
- 39:24Speaker 6: rather have their roads fixed.
- 39:26Speaker 3: You see what I'm saying.
- 39:27Speaker 6: But it's a good political response, it's it's good media
- 39:32Speaker 6: right for them to say, oh, we're going to cut taxes. Well,
- 39:34Speaker 6: of course, but the people that I'm hearing from, they
- 39:40Speaker 6: just they just feel like that's insulting, right, Like they're
- 39:42Speaker 6: just there, their intelligence is being insulted because they've realized
- 39:45Speaker 6: that there's problems, they're not afraid to work on the problems.
- 39:48Speaker 6: And again, I think we do have a lot of opportunity,
- 39:52Speaker 6: but we have a lot of complex issues here in
- 39:53Speaker 6: West Virginia, and I think if people don't understand the
- 39:57Speaker 6: problem or they can't come up with a solution, they
- 40:00Speaker 6: ignore it. And I feel like that's what's what's happened. Unfortunately.
- 40:05Speaker 5: Do you think that they're over the last couple of years,
- 40:07Speaker 5: and this is not necessarily just to the Senate, I'm
- 40:10Speaker 5: talking to the legislature in general, conclude the House?
- 40:12Speaker 2: Now, do you think there's been too much focus on
- 40:13Speaker 2: social issues?
- 40:14Speaker 3: Oh? Absolutely, absolutely.
- 40:16Speaker 11: Uh.
- 40:17Speaker 6: On some level, social issues are important, right, you know,
- 40:21Speaker 6: I'm not going to say that they're that they're completely irrelevant.
- 40:24Speaker 6: But we have bigger fishta fry so to speak. Right
- 40:27Speaker 6: when we have we still have opioid problems. Right, We
- 40:30Speaker 6: still have like we mentioned, people that don't have running water,
- 40:34Speaker 6: We have roads that are falling apart. We have a
- 40:37Speaker 6: healthcare system that that is struggling. You know, I've got
- 40:40Speaker 6: I've talked to several older folks who unfortunately have to
- 40:44Speaker 6: choose between their medicine this month or putting food on
- 40:46Speaker 6: the table. Those are real problems. The social issues on again,
- 40:50Speaker 6: on some level, they're important, but we really need to
- 40:53Speaker 6: focus and start working together to actually make some progress.
- 40:58Speaker 6: And when I say us working together, I don't just
- 41:00Speaker 6: mean politicians, right, it's the community. West Virginians are strong,
- 41:06Speaker 6: they understand the lay of the land. They're not idiots.
- 41:10Speaker 6: They will step up. I have faith in them. I
- 41:12Speaker 6: know they're my people. They will step up and help.
- 41:15Speaker 6: They just need some leadership, some guidance, some honesty to
- 41:20Speaker 6: get everybody on the same page to work together.
- 41:22Speaker 5: If you are elected, would you be willing to do
- 41:24Speaker 5: some sort of like town halls or you know, I
- 41:28Speaker 5: mean as best you can.
- 41:29Speaker 2: I mean, would you be willing to do them?
- 41:31Speaker 6: Absolutely? I think you can't lead if you don't listen.
- 41:36Speaker 6: And that is a huge missing piece because I don't
- 41:39Speaker 6: remember the last time I saw one of those outside
- 41:41Speaker 6: of an election year, right, So, but that's incredibly important.
- 41:46Speaker 6: People have to be able to have access to their
- 41:49Speaker 6: elected officials. They have to be able to share their concerns,
- 41:52Speaker 6: share their opinions, because otherwise it's very easy to get
- 41:55Speaker 6: disconnected from the people. So yeah, not only would I
- 41:59Speaker 6: be open to that, but that's that's absolutely part of
- 42:00Speaker 6: my plan as well.
- 42:02Speaker 5: One final question, and then we'll let you get on
- 42:06Speaker 5: with your day, because you do have a job to
- 42:07Speaker 5: get to.
- 42:07Speaker 3: I do.
- 42:08Speaker 2: There's that little thing. Thanks, I'll get you out of here.
- 42:12Speaker 5: The State Republican Party last year opted to and it's
- 42:16Speaker 5: their right to do it, opted to close their primary
- 42:19Speaker 5: to independence. So if you are a registered independent when
- 42:23Speaker 5: you go to the bout in the year's past, you
- 42:25Speaker 5: were able to go in and say, Okay, I'm independent,
- 42:27Speaker 5: but I want a Republican ballot or I want a
- 42:29Speaker 5: Democrat ballot. The State Republican Party last year voted not
- 42:34Speaker 5: well actually a couple of years ago, and they continue
- 42:36Speaker 5: this year not to allow independence to vote.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Do you have an opinion on that?
- 42:41Speaker 6: I do, Yeah, you know, I understand that. I understand
- 42:43Speaker 6: their thought process, but I don't agree. You know, the
- 42:47Speaker 6: beautiful thing about America in my mind is the freedom,
- 42:51Speaker 6: and you know, we should have completely open elections in
- 42:54Speaker 6: my mind, so you know, if an independent wants to
- 42:56Speaker 6: go and vote on the Republican ticket, then they should
- 42:59Speaker 6: have that right. So my whole thing is the people
- 43:03Speaker 6: are the most important thing, not the politics. So I
- 43:06Speaker 6: always default to putting the people above politics.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Final thirty.
- 43:09Speaker 5: Why should someone vote for Travis Wilden Republican District form?
- 43:16Speaker 6: Politics was never in the cards for me. It was
- 43:19Speaker 6: never my desire. If people are looking for change, if
- 43:26Speaker 6: people are looking for actual solutions to the problems and
- 43:31Speaker 6: not just self interest, then I'm their guy. The problems
- 43:35Speaker 6: we have today can't be solved with the same mindset
- 43:39Speaker 6: that God is here. So I am a political outsider,
- 43:42Speaker 6: but I'm not an outsider for West Virginian. So I'm
- 43:45Speaker 6: the guy that's going to stand up genuinely, selflessly and
- 43:52Speaker 6: fight for West Virginians. And if that's what they are
- 43:55Speaker 6: looking for. If that's what the people are looking for,
- 43:57Speaker 6: then I'm absolutely one hundred percent the guy. If they
- 44:01Speaker 6: want the status quo, then I'm not for them. But again,
- 44:05Speaker 6: I think even that statement right, like I want, I'm
- 44:08Speaker 6: doing this for the people, and I firmly believe that
- 44:13Speaker 6: it's the right path, and I firmly believe that they're
- 44:15Speaker 6: going to stand up and I really think that I
- 44:18Speaker 6: resonate with them. And if I don't, that's also fine
- 44:21Speaker 6: because the people have spoken right, so right, I'm good
- 44:25Speaker 6: either way. I'm here to stand up for him. I'm
- 44:28Speaker 6: here to fight for him. And I really think that's
- 44:30Speaker 6: what people are craving. They just they need an ally,
- 44:33Speaker 6: They need somebody to listen, and I'm that guy.
- 44:36Speaker 5: Travis Willard, Republican candidate for States in a district for
- 44:40Speaker 5: appreciate you being here.
