Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: The Lost and Found Box.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Boba?
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Bobo, where are you?
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Coco Melon movie 2027 trailer review.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Caesar did what?
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Caesar is playing a princess who has banned singing.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: In a Coco Melon movie, that's like hiring Gordon Ramsey to run a restaurant where nobody's allowed to cook.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: And somewhere a parent just heard no singing and said, finally, a leader with a plan.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: But here's the part that got me beneath all the easy jokes.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: There might be actually be a sweet movie here.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: The question is: does this teaser give us a reason to buy a ticket?
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Or is JJ about to turn the family's free YouTube habit into a very expensive afternoon?
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: What's going on everyone?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: It's Gilbert K here, and today we're talking about the Coco Melon, the movie trailer ahead of its planned February 2027 release.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Let's dive in.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: He's the setup.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: JJ starts kindergarten, big day, new place and new people.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: And then his stuffed bear, Boba, goes missing.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: So JJ and his friends Cody, Cece, and Nina set out to find him.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Their search, take them into magical land ruled by Princess Harmony.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: One rule, no singing.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: First of all, Princess Harmony, you ban music and you kept the name.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: That's like someone named Captain Wi-Fi cutting off the internet.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: But I like the basic idea, taking characters known for songs and putting them somewhere songs aren't allowed, give them a problem that fits their world.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: There's a reason for the music to matter.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: My question is, how far they take it?
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Is singing going to help these kids work together and face their fears?
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Or will they stop every few minutes because the soundtrack needs another track?
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: That difference could decide the whole movie because a song can move a story forward.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: It can also make you check how much popcorn you have left.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: The lost bear is the part I find most promising.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: As an adult, you might hear missing stuffed animal and think, check under the bed.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: For a little kid, that bear can be their whole comfort zone, especially on the first day of school.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Imagine walking into a room where you don't know the rules, you don't know the people, and one thing that makes you feel safe is gone.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: That feeling makes sense at any age.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: At five, it's your bear.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: At 35, it's walking into a new job and finding out everyone already had a lunch group.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Great, I'll eat beside the printer.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: That's what I want the movie to hold on to.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: The adventure can get huge, but JJ's problem should stay clear.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: He's scared, he misses his friend, and he has to do something brave.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: If they get that right, the parents might feel something too.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Apart from the price of the snack, now this voice cast.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Chicken Peels?
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: I have a question.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: And I have questions.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: But I respect a name that sounds like something you find at the bottom of an air fryer.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Connor Estersen voices JJ.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: You've got also Sarah Sherman, Igo Nudem, Josh Johnson, Rhys Darby, Matthew Fran, and Christo Fernandez.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: That's a lot of comic talent for a movie where the lead character probably still needs help opening his juice.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Caesar is the clever casting hook for me, a singer playing a princess won't allow singing, creates an obvious question, why?
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: I want the movie to give her a reason we can understand.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe she's scared, maybe something happened, we don't know yet.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: If the answer is just because we need someone to cause trouble, that would feel thin.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: And Nicholas Holt as stuffed bear, sure, why not?
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: The man played Lex Luther.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Now he's Boba.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: One minute you're dealing with Superman, the next your biggest threat is the washing machine.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Here's where I'm still cautious.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Coco Melon already is a huge audience, but being familiar with a character and wanting to follow that character through a whole movie are different things.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: A little kid recognizing JJ gets them excited.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: What keeps them interested once the lights go down.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: That's a job.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: I want to clear goals, funny moments that come from the characters, a little time to breathe, and a reason to care when the next song starts.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: The film is being promoted with 10 new songs.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: 10.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Parents, I'm not saying you'll memorize all of them.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I'm saying the film has submitted its application to live in your car.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: The music could be a big strength.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Justin Trenter is the executive music producer, and his work includes collaboration with major pop artists such as Selina Gomez and Justin Bieber.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: And that gives me a reason to be curious, but catchy song and a good movie are two separate twins.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: I'd like both.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Especially if I'm going to be hearing track four while buying groceries six months later.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Now, here's a fun fact: I didn't expect to bring it into Coco Melon review.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Director Cat Good told Nova Stream that the team drew on favorite adventure films, including The Goonies, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: And Mad Max Fury wrote, Mad Max, I expected the wheels on the bus.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: I didn't expect the bus to enter the wasteland.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: To be clear, she was talking about influences and little nods.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: She wasn't announcing JJ Fury wrote, although excellent title.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: What I find interesting is that she's thinking about a child's first big movie adventure.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: And that's a real chance to make something memorable.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: She also described a world built around things children lose, including a city made from missing blankets.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: And that's a lovely idea.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Kids see a magical place, parents see everything they've spent three years looking for.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And Cadgood has worked as a story artist on films including Kung Fu Panda and Mega Mind.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: So there's an experience here in giving animated characters personality that makes me more interested in where this goes.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Here's my take on this teaser's pitch.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: The strongest idea is the smallest one.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: A kid loses the thing that helps him feel brave.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: The singing band adds a simple obstacle.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Caesar adds a great hook, and the adventure gives the filmmaker room to surprise us.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: My big question is whether all of that becomes a story worth sitting through together.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Because it's for little kids and shouldn't end the conversation.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Little kids deserve characters they love, jokes they can enjoy, and a story that makes them feel something.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: The adults who brought them can have a good time too.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: I'm curious enough to keep watching the marketing.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: I'm still waiting for more proof of the humor, the songs, and how these characters work together.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: So my verdict for now, the premise got my attention.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: The movie still has to earn the family outing.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: I came here ready to make jokes about JJ getting a film.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Now I'm asking why Caesar Kingdom has a music band.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Well played, Coco Melon.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: You got a follow-up question out of me.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Tell me this what would make you give this movie a chance, the songs, the adventure, or your child pointing at the poster until decision is made for you?
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: And which childhood show actually deserves a great movie?
