- 1:24Speaker 2: Yeah and boy.
- 1:25Speaker 2: This is so key when it comes to hermeneutics right Proper interpretation of Scripture.

- 1:47Speaker 2: I know how to be abased and I know how to abound Everywhere and on all things.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I've learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
- 1:58Speaker 2: See that, like you get the context Paul is talking about.
- 2:02Speaker 2: No matter what situation he's in, he's suffering, he's abounding, he can, what he can be sustained because of Christ, and he can endure all those sorts of things.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Here is one of my favorite quotes Friends, is it cheesy who cares?

- 10:45Speaker 4: It's not out of shape, it's just getting old.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Is that what it is.
- 10:48Speaker 4: When we filmed that exploding thing, I was running through that field with Kirk when all the explosions oh yeah.
- 10:53Speaker 4: I ran really fast.
- 10:54Speaker 4: I just couldn't breathe when I ended, and that's when I realized I was getting old.
- 10:57Speaker 4: I was about 60, I think Can you do that today, ray?
- 10:59Speaker 4: Run fast, yeah, oh yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 2: What about running?

- 11:19Speaker 2: You know Danny and Tanny, danny and Tanny he's a Danny and Danny, our sons did it.
- 11:24Speaker 1: We're going to do the hard half A routine, point no I seriously want to get back into running.
- 11:29Speaker 2: It's one of my favorite things to do.
- 11:31Speaker 2: That's great, oscar, you don't strike me as a runner.
- 11:34Speaker 3: I don't particularly enjoy it, like when I'm done running.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I'm usually upset that I did it, I think he's going to say I feel refreshed.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I would prefer working out or playing basketball.
- 11:48Speaker 4: I love watching running.
- 11:49Speaker 4: I just can't stand it, even as a kid, when in school, remember, I used to hide under a hedge when they ran around the block and I'd pick it up the second time.
- 11:58Speaker 2: You never got caught doing that, right?
- 12:00Speaker 2: No, you're crazy, I was terrible.
- 12:02Speaker 2: All right, friends, we already did the cool classic comment, I guess, with the cards.
- 12:07Speaker 2: And now a radically revolutionary resource.
- 12:10Speaker 2: This podcast is brought to you by why Christianity Solving Life's Most Important Questions.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Great booklet, booklet Over one million Ray.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Yes, it's very popular.
- 12:20Speaker 4: It's such a simple principle, but it's so eye-opening.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, this one's good friends to give to someone that you've spent some time with, maybe shared the gospel with.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Is that 50 pages?
- 12:32Speaker 3: It's one of my favorite booklets that we have by far, it's really good, it's really cool.
- 12:37Speaker 2: All right, friends, you almost heard me break a mug.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Don't forget the Living Waters mug and that bit of study Bible and Living Waters TV Mug breaker, mug breaker.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Ooh, that's a good name.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Sounds like a wrestler's name.
- 12:52Speaker 2: It does mug breaker.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Um yeah, living waters tv.
- 12:54Speaker 2: It is growing and there's a lot of good content on there.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Check it all out at all right, friends, today we're talking about that's not in the bible, examining verses that don't exist.
- 13:07Speaker 2: We'll also talk about uh, how can you examine something that don't exist?
- 13:09Speaker 3: We'll also talk about how can you examine something that doesn't exist Exactly.
- 13:13Speaker 2: See that Oscar, Wisdom, Wisdom Mark.
- 13:18Speaker 4: You're making me think.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Oscar, I'm trying to think what can you examine.
- 13:21Speaker 4: There must be something that doesn't exist that you can examine.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Examining verses that don't exist, that's what we're doing.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Lawrence Krauss tells us that everything came from nothing.
- 13:28Speaker 4: No, no, he says nothing created everything.
- 13:31Speaker 4: It's a huge difference.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Is it Really?
- 13:33Speaker 4: Yes, I mean, we believe everything came from nothing.
- 13:35Speaker 4: God created everything from nothing.
- 13:37Speaker 4: But, Krauss believes that there was no God and nothing created everything Hummingbirds and flowers and trees.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Where's your buddy Krauss?
- 13:45Speaker 4: Oh, where's your buddy Krauss?
- 13:46Speaker 4: Oh, I do email him now and then say how are you doing?
- 13:48Speaker 3: Does he respond yes, oh nice, he says shut up, unsubscribe.
- 13:54Speaker 4: No, he doesn't.
- 13:54Speaker 4: He's very nice, but he never, ever wants me to talk about God.
- 13:57Speaker 4: He's told me that yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 2: All right, friends.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Oh, we're going to talk about verses that don't exist.
- 14:02Speaker 2: We'll also talk about Verses that don't exist.
- 14:06Speaker 2: People that say verses are verses in the Bible and they don't exist because they're not in the Bible.
- 14:11Speaker 2: But we'll also talk about verses that are taken out of context.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I mean, almost are not verses, in that they are misapplied, and so, yeah, yeah, all right, thank you.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Thank you for joining us.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I would like to join us friends.
- 14:30Speaker 4: I think this is an important subject because, as a new Christian, I remember sitting there.
- 14:33Speaker 4: I was about three days old and I had a Bible on my lap.
- 14:36Speaker 4: It was a huge Bible.
- 14:37Speaker 4: I thought I want to conquer this.
- 14:38Speaker 4: I want to be able to say that's not in the Bible.
- 14:42Speaker 4: After 50 years I haven't conquered it.
- 14:44Speaker 4: There's so many verses I haven't even understand or got to in a sense, like Leviticus and stuff like that.
- 14:49Speaker 4: But when someone says God helps them, that help themselves, I want to be able to say that is not in the Bible, because that's the basis of Catholicism.
- 14:57Speaker 4: God will help you.
- 14:59Speaker 4: After all, you can do Same with Mormons and it's a deception.
- 15:02Speaker 4: And so we need to know what's not in the Bible.
- 15:05Speaker 4: I mean, for those who don't understand the principle, it's easy to know what's in the Bible.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Jesus wept.
- 15:11Speaker 4: I know that verse, so you can say that is in the Bible.
- 15:14Speaker 4: But to say it's not in the Bible, you need to know the whole of Scripture, right.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Well, I would say this would be at the top of the list when you guys, in terms of verses that people don't know, the word think must be in the word and you hear it quoted here and there from time to time.
- 15:28Speaker 2: But let's break some of these down.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Obviously, we don't just want to say, okay, that's not in the Bible, but let 's talk about why some of these verses conflict with what is in the Bible.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Right, in terms of what we know Scripture says regarding some of these things, because some of them not only are not in the Bible and are perceived to be Christianese, but some of them are antithetical to what actually is in the Bible.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Well, that one is, isn't it?
- 15:58Speaker 4: God helps them to help themselves.
- 16:00Speaker 4: As works righteousness.
- 16:01Speaker 4: There is a way that seems right to man.
- 16:03Speaker 4: The end of that way is death, and this appeals to self-righteousness of men and women.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yeah, don't forget the women, right, I'm sorry, women sin too.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, not my wife.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Your wife, that's letting you do something that you want to do, oscar.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Yeah, she loves me.
- 16:18Speaker 2: What are you doing, oscar?
- 16:19Speaker 2: Tell us what you're doing Oscar.
- 16:21Speaker 3: I am going on a snowboarding trip in which Ray's going to love this.
- 16:25Speaker 3: No he's not.
- 16:26Speaker 3: So we will fly into Washington, then we'll take a four-hour drive into Canada, and then we get in a helicopter for a 45-minute ride to a spot where you can't drive to, and then I will get in a cab which is basically a tank on snow and they will drive us up to the cliffs of these mountains while we were snowboarding down them for four days.
- 16:47Speaker 3: You're going to film this.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Yes, oh, please do, that's all that matters.
- 16:50Speaker 1: If you die, we don't care, we just want to get it on camera.
- 16:53Speaker 3: I give you permission to put my death on camera, if it happens.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Thank you, oscar, walked into the studio today with news that Kelly gave her blessing, like he just did drugs.
- 17:04Speaker 4: It's not a good sign.
- 17:06Speaker 4: I mean when a wife buys a husband skydiving.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Hey honey, guess what I got you for your birthday we have an extended life insurance plan as well.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Sign here, honey, let's go to the Grand.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Canyon.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I see what you're doing.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I did walk up to Easy and I go.
- 17:23Speaker 3: She said yes.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I haven't seen you this excited in a while, Oscar.
- 17:27Speaker 2: So God will not help you if you're trying to help yourself on this one, Oscar.
- 17:32Speaker 4: So what happens if you fall down a crevasse?
- 17:34Speaker 4: What are you going to do?
- 17:36Speaker 4: Crevasse, crevasse, crevasse.
- 17:38Speaker 3: The hopes is I'll have an RF chip on my jacket.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Oh, that's good, so they can find your body, that's great.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Are you serious?
- 17:49Speaker 3: Like a locator chip.
- 17:49Speaker 3: There's a locator, yeah, you have to buy I do already have one a jacket that has a locator chip on it, so that if you get hit by an avalanche they can dig you out as quickly as possible.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's to find the body.
- 17:56Speaker 4: It's for the relatives.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I'm getting one under my skin, on my hand and not on my forehead.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Oh, that'll directly communicate to the government.
- 18:02Speaker 4: Yeah, locate me, yeah, oh boy, if you get in a crevasse or get buried by a crevasse buried by an avalanche.
- 18:14Speaker 4: You're going to be thinking of me.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I will, I will Seriously, oscar, you're crazy dude, the stuff you do.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I'm so excited.
- 18:20Speaker 2: No, no, let's go to.
- 18:22Speaker 4: UCLA and you preach open air.
- 18:23Speaker 4: I'm down, let's do that.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't mind that.
- 18:26Speaker 4: I don't mind that, yeah right, get your heart thumping, yeah right.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Yeah, right, mark, break that down for us.
- 18:31Speaker 2: The unbiblical element of God helps those who help themselves.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Yes, psalm 121-2,.
- 18:37Speaker 1: My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth, and Romans 5-6,.
- 18:43Speaker 1: For while we were still weak at the right time, christ died for the ungodly.
- 18:48Speaker 1: God does not help those who help themselves.
- 18:52Speaker 1: The fact is, we can't help ourselves.
- 18:54Speaker 1: You don't understand how dead you are in your sins and your trespasses.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Christianity is this great big journey of realizing that Christianity is nothing like the world, and it is a continual cry out to God for help.
- 19:08Speaker 1: It's not a moment by moment.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I got this one.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I got this one.
- 19:12Speaker 1: You know I didn't need you today.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Maybe next week you know this is an easy one Maybe next week you know this is an easy one.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Somebody who is self-reliant is not a praying person.
- 19:22Speaker 1: You know, I learned that from Ray.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I like that, you know, are you?
- 19:26Speaker 1: I remember asking Ray one time are you nervous when you open your preach?
- 19:30Speaker 1: And he said he goes.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, but a nervous man is a praying man, right?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Otherwise, what is the point and the purpose of having the Lord inside of our lives?
- 19:41Speaker 1: We need Him.
- 19:42Speaker 1: We are so reliant upon Him.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I've often said that we need Him more than our lungs need oxygen or more than our veins need blood.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Moment by moment, day by day is when we need Him.
- 19:52Speaker 1: There's nothing we can do.
- 19:53Speaker 1: That's why Christ came, because we couldn't help ourselves.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, there's a prayer I pray when I'm feeling nervous, when I'm about to do something, especially in ministry, and it's this that's the one where you go, ah.
- 20:07Speaker 2: But it says Lord, please remove any unnecessary nervousness.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Oh, that's good, and I say that specifically because whatever necessary nervousness I need to have to keep me dependent on him, even though, like in my flesh, I don't want it.
- 20:22Speaker 2: But I never want to get to a place where I'm just like yep, here we go, and it's like no dependence on the Lord no crying out to the Lord.
- 20:29Speaker 4: You ever found that you're alone in a pulpit without God's help.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Boy, you can feel that it's like a nightmare.
- 20:36Speaker 3: I feel like that happens to me 30 seconds before preaching every time, like I think about all the ways I relied on myself rather than him in my prep work and I'm like, oh Lord, help me, I need you now.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the phrase God helps those who helps themselves.
- 20:52Speaker 3: I think the reason why people are gravitating towards that phrase is because they want self-discipline and responsibility, and certainly the modern man lacks discipline and responsibility.
- 21:03Speaker 3: But the phrase is fundamentally unbiblical for the reasons that you just said.
- 21:07Speaker 3: It was Mark.
- 21:08Speaker 3: The gospel teaches us that God helps the helpless, that we cannot save ourselves, that salvation is entirely of grace, in other words, cannot save ourselves.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Salvation is entirely of grace, in other words, god doesn't just offer help, he rescues the powerless and his grace will certainly allow us or motivate us to live in a responsible way.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I love to explain it like this the gospel is not a life raft out to a drowning man.
- 21:33Speaker 3: The gospel is a lung full of air to the man who's already drowned.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Wow.
- 21:40Speaker 2: That's so good, yeah, and you know, I think you see man's hubris and folly when he says stuff like God didn't do that for me, I did that for myself.
- 21:53Speaker 2: And that's where you really see the height of blindness and ignorance.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Right, what can you do with anything in your body that wasn't given to you by God?
- 22:09Speaker 2: I mean, like everything you have was given.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Tell me how you created your eyeballs.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I want you to give me a detailed description of how you formed your teeth and sculpted your hand.
- 22:21Speaker 2: My mother did that.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Who can tell me where I came from?
- 22:24Speaker 2: A little boy would ask.
- 22:26Speaker 2: But you know what I'm saying.
- 22:28Speaker 2: If God removed his hand from holding all the molecules in the universe together, we would just all fall apart in a heartbeat.
- 22:37Speaker 2: And so, yeah, and I hear what you're saying, Oscar, because that often is, I think, what's behind it.
- 22:42Speaker 2: It's like, no, you have to work, you can't just sit around and be lazy.
- 22:46Speaker 2: But really I think, well, if you dig down deep and you extrapolate, that man is basically saying that, no, we have to earn our way to God, we have to be able to do something to gain God's favor.
- 23:01Speaker 2: And we can't help ourselves.
- 23:03Speaker 2: In the ultimate sense, it's got to all be Him.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Self-righteousness is married to pride and mercy is married to humility.
- 23:10Speaker 4: You think of the story of the centurion Lord, please go with him, heal his servant because he's worthy.
- 23:17Speaker 4: He built us a synagogue and twice in that incident the centurion says to Jesus I'm not worthy and that's what you have to come to, to come to Christ to a point, realizing you're not worthy.
- 23:29Speaker 4: You can't help yourself.
- 23:30Speaker 2: What is it?
- 23:31Speaker 2: The door, the low door, ray.
- 23:32Speaker 2: You always talk about that.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yeah the low door Ray.
- 23:36Speaker 3: The low door.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Ray Ray only enters through the low door.
- 23:38Speaker 3: I like to use low doors.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Oh yeah, the door of salvation is very low.
- 23:42Speaker 3: That's one reason why Ray never has to worry about getting robbed at home is because all he has is the doggy door for a front door.
- 23:48Speaker 4: I actually got through that.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Do you remember that?
- 23:50Speaker 4: I do, you were there.
- 23:55Speaker 2: The time when Julia was like what Is Ray stuck in the doggy door?
- 23:59Speaker 2: Like this is protocol, it's what we do here.
- 24:01Speaker 4: I got through.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you made it, yeah, so yeah, that's so important, so key to remember.
- 24:07Speaker 2: And when it comes, like for example, to preaching or evangelism, if I'm gonna err and I have a limited amount of time I would rather err on the side of praying more than prepping more.
- 24:25Speaker 2: And again, that's not to say that obviously we shouldn't prep and be diligent, we should be.
- 24:31Speaker 2: But, man, I would rather go to a pulpit, I would rather step up on a box, knowing that I've cried out to God that I'm utterly bankrupt and desperately in need of him.
- 24:43Speaker 2: You know, and I pray, we live that way.
- 24:46Speaker 2: I pray that you know, we wake up in the morning and begin our day with Lord help me right.
- 24:52Speaker 2: You guys know I have that painting in my office.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Lord save me, right, Peter drowning.
- 24:56Speaker 2: And Lord save me.
- 24:57Speaker 2: I'm so stupid, I'm so foolish, I'm so prone to error.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Lord, I need you at every turn, you know.
- 25:06Speaker 4: I've heard it said, of preaching inspirational perspiration.
- 25:09Speaker 4: Those are your alternatives.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Either God's helpful or you're alone.
- 25:14Speaker 2: I say I need unction.
- 25:15Speaker 2: What?
- 25:15Speaker 3: Oscar, I was going to ask the guys in the back Talking about.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I say I need unction.
- 25:18Speaker 4: What, Oscar?
- 25:18Speaker 4: I was going to ask the guys in the back.
- 25:18Speaker 4: What are you talking about?
- 25:20Speaker 3: I was going to ask the guys in the back to make sure they send me a clip of you saying I am so stupid.
- 25:26Speaker 2: That's a proverb, right?
- 25:27Speaker 2: We all held back from saying amen.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I did.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I was actually shocked.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I'm like what I'm waiting here for yeah?
- 25:34Speaker 1: Well, it was just a given.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Well, it was just a given.
- 25:36Speaker 1: This kind of goes hand in hand with God won't give you more than you can handle.
- 25:38Speaker 1: When we've been designed to be overwhelmed, we've been designed within our DNA to be completely over our heads in life, so that we trust in Him, so that we rely upon Him.
- 26:03Speaker 1: I remember MacArthur talking about it at the last Shepherds Conference, how he loves being in situations where a parting of the seas is necessary, right, Well?
- 26:09Speaker 4: I wouldn't say that, eva Pray fine, that's fine.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Sing it Ray.
- 26:15Speaker 2: No Ray is what.
- 26:17Speaker 1: But it really is.
- 26:18Speaker 1: It's a neat place to be, knowing that you know God is.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Listen.
- 26:23Speaker 1: We think that it's a dangerous prayer, right, god refiner's fire, and we joke about it.
- 26:28Speaker 4: No, I don't.
- 26:28Speaker 4: What do you mean?
- 26:30Speaker 4: Joke about it?
- 26:30Speaker 4: Are you joking?
- 26:31Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 26:33Speaker 1: But listen, if we break it down theologically right, god is not looking saying, oh, you prayed the prayer, oh, now I'm going to squash you, now I'm going to remove your finances, right, it's like no, we have the ability with God to pray whatever we want to pray, to say whatever we want to say, and God is able to decipher and say no, yes, maybe wait.
- 26:54Speaker 1: You know that's what God does.
- 26:55Speaker 1: You know we don't need to fear praying anything with God, and it's good to say, nevertheless, not my will, but your will.
- 27:03Speaker 1: You know, be done, lord.
- 27:04Speaker 1: But you know, the idea of seeing God come through clutch is a beautiful thing.
- 27:09Speaker 1: God is never late, he's never early, he's always on time.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Amen, how?
- 27:14Speaker 2: about this, Mark, oh sorry.
- 27:15Speaker 2: God will never give you more than he can handle.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Ooh, that actually goes into what I was about to say, because I think, again, this is a misquote, this one from 1 Corinthians 10, 13, in which it talks about temptation.
- 27:27Speaker 3: But you make a really good point, which is that God will absolutely give you more than you can handle.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Why would he do that?
- 27:35Speaker 3: Because when you come to the end of yourself, you begin to depend on him.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Where I am weak, you will be made strong.
- 27:41Speaker 3: His strength will be known through my weakness.
- 27:45Speaker 4: I live at the end of myself.
- 27:48Speaker 3: I remember when my mom was struggling with drug addiction.
- 27:52Speaker 3: She was in and out of rehab.
- 27:54Speaker 3: She would disappear for weeks at a time with my little sisters.
- 27:58Speaker 3: We wouldn't know where they were.
- 27:59Speaker 3: We'd find out they're living in a motel.
- 28:01Speaker 3: They were out in Vegas wherever the case.
- 28:02Speaker 3: And she had gotten out of rehab after her first stint.
- 28:06Speaker 3: I had her move in with me, hoping that that would help, and she had relapsed.
- 28:10Speaker 3: And I remember one night being in my bed and just bawling my eyes out, crying out to God, I can't do this.
- 28:18Speaker 3: You have the wrong guy 20 something.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Oh, really, were you an atheist then.
- 28:24Speaker 3: No, I was a believer now, yeah, for a young believer.
- 28:28Speaker 3: And so, anyways, I was crying out to God I can't do this, you have the wrong guy.
- 28:31Speaker 3: You have the wrong guy.
- 28:32Speaker 3: And I fell asleep that night realizing all of the ways I was relying on my own self.
- 28:38Speaker 3: I will make sure she goes through rehab, I will this, I will that, I have a plan.
- 28:44Speaker 3: And it was just like the Lord showing me that this, I'm not getting through this unless I turn to him in the midst of all of that.
- 28:52Speaker 4: You know, cast all your cares upon him, for he cares for you.
- 28:55Speaker 4: We tend to cast upwards and then it comes down on us, on him, if he cares for you, we tend to cast it upwards, and then it comes down on us no, I know.
- 29:01Speaker 2: And also we say, lord, I'm leaving this at the foot of your cross.
- 29:04Speaker 2: And then we say, in Jesus' name, amen, get up and hoist it back on our back and walk away with it.
- 29:12Speaker 2: It's crazy, but yeah, something I've mentioned before on the podcast, but I think it's worth repeating, is our verbiage often gives us away right and we say things like Lord, help me not to do this in my own strength.
- 29:22Speaker 2: The deception is in that we think we have any strength of our own right.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Think about that.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I don't have any in my own.
- 29:30Speaker 2: What strength do I have independent of the Lord?
- 29:32Speaker 2: Our prayer should really be Lord, help me not to be deceived in thinking that I can do anything without your strength, because it's the only strength I have to rely on.
- 29:40Speaker 2: So, yeah, good stuff.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Now this verse is in the Bible Cleanliness is next to godliness.
- 29:47Speaker 4: That's not in the Bible.
- 29:48Speaker 4: This is the easiest verse.
- 29:49Speaker 4: I wish it was so.
- 29:51Speaker 4: Where would it be?
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know where the book of easy.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, but look, this is a silly one.
- 30:00Speaker 4: We don't have to.
- 30:01Speaker 4: There's no such thing as cleanliness.
- 30:02Speaker 4: You know that.
- 30:02Speaker 4: We've got all little tiny bugs crawling across our.
- 30:06Speaker 4: I don't Flesh, I don't no, I don't, I walk around with ultraviolet light on me all the time I have seen them.
- 30:14Speaker 2: You know that's creepy when you look at those microscopic little.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Electromicroscopes yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 1: That's pretty crazy.
- 30:19Speaker 1: While we're breathing in the air, these little microbes.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Protein.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Seriously, I'm not breathing.
- 30:25Speaker 3: I think one of the big things to this one is Protein.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Just breathing in protein.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Did you just get that?
- 30:32Speaker 1: It just hit me.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Breathing in protein.
- 30:34Speaker 4: We're eating, bro it's funny, what you mean breathing in protein.
- 30:36Speaker 4: We're eating, bro, it's funny.
- 30:38Speaker 4: What are you chewing?
- 30:39Speaker 2: Protein Breath Microscopic protein.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Cleanliness is next to godliness.
- 30:44Speaker 3: I think the lie here is the reality that even if you put yourself together, it seems like godliness.
- 30:50Speaker 3: I mean the scripture warns against whitewashed tombs.
- 30:52Speaker 3: The most well put together, the most religious person that you've ever met that keeps themselves both morally, physically, spiritually clean, unbeknownst to you, might be a whitewashed tune.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Ultimately, what we need is a purity of heart, which only comes through the gospel, and no outward disposition of having it together will ever make up for what's going on inside of our hearts.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Oh, amen.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you know you.
- 31:20Speaker 2: You think about those that appear to be clean, so to speak, like morally politicians, or even pastors, or, and then you end up finding out, man, there was so much going on beneath the surface.
- 31:32Speaker 2: That's never happened, has it?
- 31:33Speaker 2: No, never was me.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I was so immoral that I tried to somehow cling to a form of purity by my outward cleanliness.
- 31:46Speaker 2: And when I'd come home, and if things were in disarray for some reason, if I was in a hurry and I come to my room and I would feel suicidal, I would meticulously clean my room, I'd dust it, I'd organize everything, I'd sit back on my chair in my room and I would meticulously clean my room, I'd dust it, I'd organize everything, I'd sit back on my chair in my room and I would just breathe a sigh of relief, like now, my world is in order.
- 32:05Speaker 2: You know, and little did I know I needed Christ you know that, yeah, pilate believed in cleanliness.
- 32:11Speaker 4: He washed his hands.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Oh wow, honor Jesus, I'm a very clean person.
- 32:15Speaker 4: I cannot stand touching the door handle of a public restroom.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I always stand touching the door handle of a public restroom.
- 32:19Speaker 3: I always use my chin, I use my chin.
- 32:22Speaker 4: Don't steal my thunder.
- 32:25Speaker 3: I did not know you were going to say that yes, of course.
- 32:27Speaker 4: Just give me three seconds Use my mouth.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Always use my chin.
- 32:33Speaker 2: You got to switch to your chin, your double chin, right, that'll help All right.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Money is the root of all evil.
- 32:47Speaker 4: This has got to be up there with one of the top ones.
- 32:49Speaker 4: So many people quote that Money is the root of all evil.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Blame the money.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Blame the money?
- 32:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like we've got a litter problem.
- 32:58Speaker 4: No, we don't.
- 32:58Speaker 4: We have a lazy people problem.
- 33:00Speaker 4: Got a litter problem?
- 33:01Speaker 4: No, we don't.
- 33:01Speaker 4: We have a lazy people problem not a litter problem.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Don't blame the litter.
- 33:04Speaker 2: So what's the verse really?
- 33:06Speaker 4: say, ray, what the love, oh the love of money is the root of all evil, all kinds of evil, as the modern versions say.
- 33:12Speaker 4: King James says of all evil.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Why is that Mark?
- 33:17Speaker 1: Why is the love of money the root of all evil?
- 33:18Speaker 1: Well, it's a snare, isn't it?
- 33:19Speaker 1: It promises things that don't necessarily deliver.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Jim Carrey said that he wishes riches.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I'm going to paraphrase riches upon everyone to demonstrate that it doesn't deliver right.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Oh, try me.
- 33:34Speaker 4: He gets $20 million for a movie.
- 33:36Speaker 4: You know, I'd rather have money and be able to feed my family than no money and not be able to feed my family.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Okay, so, Ray loves money.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Go ahead, Go ahead, Mark.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Thank you, Ray for exposing yourself.
- 33:49Speaker 1: How much do I correct him?
- 33:50Speaker 1: I just let the man go.
- 33:52Speaker 1: He's a little senile, he's.
- 33:53Speaker 1: You saw that he tried to hit me.
- 33:58Speaker 1: The love of money, right, because we are to trust in God and when you have a lot of money it's easier to trust in your abilities with your finances.
- 34:08Speaker 1: You know, you think of the like.
- 34:11Speaker 1: The best seasoning is hunger.
- 34:12Speaker 1: What will a hungry man eat?
- 34:15Speaker 3: Anything, that's really good, I like that.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Is that a Mark original?
- 34:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't good, I like that.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Is that a Mark?
- 34:20Speaker 3: original.
- 34:20Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 34:23Speaker 1: I've said it for years to my kids.
- 34:24Speaker 1: It's like you open up your pantry it's filled with food, yet you complain that there's nothing to eat.
- 34:29Speaker 1: And there's a thousand restaurants around you and there's no place to go.
- 34:32Speaker 1: A closet filled with clothes and you've got nothing to wear.
- 34:36Speaker 1: It's kind of like when you get down to the bare minimum you get a little bit more grateful when things come your way.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I remember a couple times in my life where I didn't have very much money and doing an involuntary fast, two, three, four, five days, sometimes without eating and praying for food, and then, when the food would arrive, not scarfing it down like maybe a homeless man who would get it, who hasn't eaten it, but just pausing and thanking God.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Thanking God as you're eating, after you're done eating.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Well, that's what happens.
- 35:11Speaker 1: David said.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I was once young and now I'm old.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I've never seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread, and now I'm old.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I've never seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread, being in that place where God opens up his hand and he satisfies the desire of every living creature in his timing.
- 35:25Speaker 1: It's absolutely perfect.
- 35:27Speaker 1: And, as our friend Thomas Purtell says, some people are so poor that all they have is money.
- 35:33Speaker 1: What a terrible place to be.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Yeah, money is the root of all kinds of evil.
- 35:38Speaker 1: The love of money.
- 35:38Speaker 3: The love of money, the love of money.
- 35:40Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I think you just messed that up, didn't I Get behind me Satan Both.
- 35:45Speaker 4: Ray and I are the example.
- 35:46Speaker 4: You didn't pray before you spoke.
- 35:48Speaker 4: That's it.
- 35:49Speaker 4: That's it.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Oscar scripture twister.
- 35:50Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Oscar.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Preaching every.
- 35:53Speaker 4: Sunday at.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Money is the root.
- 36:06Speaker 3: No, money is the root of all kinds of evil.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Why is that?
- 36:08Speaker 1: all kinds of easy you should try it one more time.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Give him the conch one more time Go.
- 36:16Speaker 3: The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil there you go.
- 36:20Speaker 3: The reason is because money is ultimately a tool, a resource and even a gift from God.
- 36:27Speaker 3: But the reality, too, is that our hearts are wicked, they are desperate, they are sick, and we often turn good gifts of God from God into idolatrous things.
- 36:41Speaker 3: We do this with children, we can do this with jobs, we can do this with money, and what ends up happening is money.
- 36:49Speaker 3: If your root idol is comfort, then you will hoard money to make yourself safe.
- 36:55Speaker 3: If your root idol is the praise of other people, then you will use money to show your status in this life.
- 37:04Speaker 3: If your root evil is control, then you will use money to control people and things around you, and so money is the root of all these kinds.
- 37:13Speaker 3: The love of money is the root of all these kinds of evil.
- 37:18Speaker 3: And it's actually funny that I keep messing up because that word, love, is so important, because our loves are the things that we hold dear, our idols, and so that's the reason why that word that I keep messing up on is so important because our money, the way we spend our money or the way we save and hold onto our money, is often the root of where our idols are.
- 37:41Speaker 4: And that scripture, they that will be rich, pierce themselves through with many sorrows.
- 37:45Speaker 4: It's not saying you've got riches, it's the greed that's in the heart that desires to be rich that causes you to pierce through with many sorrows.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Well, paul goes on in that same chapter and he says instruct those who are rich.
- 37:58Speaker 2: And then he talks about how they need to share and not trust.
- 38:01Speaker 2: He says don't trust in the uncertainty of riches.
- 38:04Speaker 2: And that's the thing right.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Because in essence, what you're doing is, if you're placing money before God, you're creating an idol out of money, because the only one who is certain is the Lord.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Everything else is uncertain.
- 38:17Speaker 2: So when you're treating money like it's uncertain, you're making it God.
- 38:20Speaker 2: You're putting it in the place of God and Ray.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Jesus basically spoke to this you can't love God and mammon.
- 38:26Speaker 4: You can't have two masters.
- 38:28Speaker 4: Yeah, you put money as your source of joy, your source of peace, your source of trust for the future.
- 38:37Speaker 4: That's when it becomes idolatrous.
- 38:39Speaker 4: God should be our joy, he should be our source of peace, he should be our source, and it's so easy to do that.
- 38:44Speaker 4: Say, I've got a certain amount of money in the bank that gives me peace, that gives me joy, that gives me a sense of just trusting the future will be fine.
- 38:50Speaker 4: But it's uncertain riches that can go like that.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Yeah, man, it's crazy when you think about those who even still had a lot of money.
- 39:01Speaker 2: I remember reading a few years ago about a Japanese businessman.
- 39:04Speaker 2: He was a billionaire, that's it, and he committed suicide.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he committed suicide.
- 39:08Speaker 2: But you see this all the time, because it's not just not having money that makes people depressed.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Having money that makes people depressed, it's having and realizing that it it isn't.
- 39:26Speaker 4: It isn't divine.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it isn't infinite.
- 39:31Speaker 2: How much is elon musk worth at the moment?
- 39:31Speaker 2: 400, 433 billion billion, don't they?
- 39:33Speaker 4: project, he'll be the first trillionaire, possibly yeah, we've got to find another word for trillionaire, because it's thrown around trillion dollars.
- 39:37Speaker 4: That's a what's that?
- 39:38Speaker 4: A thousand billion, and a billion is a thousand million.
- 39:44Speaker 2: It's just breathtaking is it a thousand billion?
- 39:46Speaker 2: Is that what a trillion is?
- 39:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it is.
- 39:48Speaker 4: Wow, it's a thousand billion and a billion is a thousand, million and a million.
- 39:53Speaker 1: I'll forget it you know, and you could never have enough money, right?
- 39:58Speaker 1: Rockefeller was asked the question how much is enough?
- 40:00Speaker 1: As the richest man, he said just a little more.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that's real.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it is real, you know.
- 40:06Speaker 4: Israel, israel, israel, israel, israel, israel, israel and Lebanon.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Pray for.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Israel, yeah, but Squirrel, no.
- 40:13Speaker 2: You threw me off.
- 40:14Speaker 2: What was I going to say?
- 40:16Speaker 2: A squirrel, a squirrel, oh.
- 40:17Speaker 2: That's why Scripture says that godliness with contentment is a great gain.
- 40:21Speaker 2: To be content.
- 40:24Speaker 2: You know, con With With Tent, a tent In a tent.
- 40:28Speaker 4: That's the Apostle Paul.
- 40:29Speaker 4: Remember that Living in a tent?
- 40:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's what it means, for sure.
- 40:33Speaker 4: We do live in a tent.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Yeah, live in a tent, this tent that God lives in, okay here's another one that you would think we're only going to touch.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Two or three of these.
- 40:43Speaker 4: We've got about nine or ten, don't we?
- 40:44Speaker 4: Who knows, we'll see.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Oh, go ahead, ray, you want to throw?
- 40:47Speaker 3: one out no, yeah, um, yeah, that is not in the Bible.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Um, yeah, um yeah.
- 40:55Speaker 1: He's following his heart.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Oh, um, yeah, yeah, he's following his heart.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Um yeah, oh man, my voice is so nice.
- 41:00Speaker 2: So this one, you would think wait, you're laughing, right, Deceptive Ray, you're laughing.
- 41:05Speaker 3: The heart is desperately wicked.
- 41:09Speaker 2: I have this cough that Wheezy won't even come through.
- 41:11Speaker 2: It won't let my wheeze, my beautiful wheeze come through.
- 41:13Speaker 1: How about this one?
- 41:15Speaker 2: God wants me to be happy.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Mark, that's the one I was going to do.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Stop it.
- 41:18Speaker 1: It's like we can finish each other's sandwiches.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, that's the one I was going to say.
- 41:27Speaker 2: You may not hear people basically say this is a Bible verse, but they talk as if, though.
- 41:32Speaker 2: This is in the Bible.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Ray, talk about it.
- 41:36Speaker 4: God wants you to be happy.
- 41:38Speaker 4: We've got a new catchphrase for our podcast an offense to those with sanity.
- 41:50Speaker 1: The Bible emphasizes joy.
- 41:52Speaker 1: You know more than happiness, yeah Right, that there's a joy inexpressible and full of glory Inside of Ray's book.
- 42:00Speaker 1: God is a Wonderful Blend for your Life.
- 42:01Speaker 1: He talks about why am I talking to what you're right here?
- 42:04Speaker 1: Yeah well, you get a kickback With the Titanic.
- 42:06Speaker 1: I refuse to tell your story.
- 42:08Speaker 1: He's kicking me under the table Easy.
- 42:12Speaker 3: how would you distinguish the difference between joy and happiness?
- 42:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say, happiness is circumstantial and happiness is.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Dependent Circumstantial.
- 42:26Speaker 1: That's really good.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Circumstantial.
- 42:27Speaker 4: It comes from what's happening.
- 42:28Speaker 4: Conditional, that was the other word.
- 42:29Speaker 4: It comes from what's happening, and that's why America's in pursuit of happiness.
- 42:33Speaker 4: You never catch it.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Oh, did you notice that From what's happening, h-a-p-p that's what he did.
- 42:38Speaker 2: What he said, that, yeah, he did that.
- 42:40Speaker 2: He never listened to anything.
- 42:52Speaker 4: He's a beautiful day, he's happy, but he runs out of gas.
- 42:55Speaker 4: His girlfriend leaves him and it's a wrong day.
- 42:57Speaker 3: He's not happy because of circumstances what's happening to him Right.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Yeah, joy is rooted in a person.
- 43:05Speaker 4: It's also objective, isn't it?
- 43:07Speaker 4: Rejoice, not because demons are subject to, but rejoice because your name is written in heaven and the word rejoice is in essence another word for joy.
- 43:14Speaker 4: It has joy right in the middle of it.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Spelled differently to sort of trick you.
- 43:18Speaker 2: So, if you rejoice, what's joicing?
- 43:20Speaker 4: in the first place.
- 43:21Speaker 4: You're doing it again.
- 43:21Speaker 4: You're joicing again.
- 43:23Speaker 3: Yes, joicing If Ray wrote a dictionary.
- 43:27Speaker 2: God is not choice.
- 43:29Speaker 4: If Ray wrote a dictionary Gotta snipe, Gotta snipe.
- 43:30Speaker 4: They like the gotta oh that's terrible.
- 43:34Speaker 3: This is, I think, a really hard one for American Christians to listen to and understand, because the comfort life, the good life, is an idol to us.
- 43:44Speaker 3: We want comfort, we want a good life, we want experience.
- 43:47Speaker 3: It's like how can that not be the precipice of everything that we are trying to accomplish?
- 43:53Speaker 3: To be able to look at somebody and say God is more interested in your holiness than your happiness.
- 43:57Speaker 3: It's discomforting, right, but it's ultimately true.
- 44:01Speaker 3: God is interested.
- 44:02Speaker 3: As someone else once said, he's more interested in your character than your comfort.
- 44:06Speaker 3: God means to make you more like who you were designed to be, more like his son, and his son himself experienced persecution and suffering and even death on the cross.
- 44:19Speaker 3: And so if that's true, then how much more?
- 44:22Speaker 3: Why wouldn't we expect to experience suffering in this world?
- 44:26Speaker 3: But if our focus, if our North Star, is happiness, we're going to be disappointed in this world.
- 44:28Speaker 3: But if our focus, if our North Star, is happiness, we're gonna be disappointed in this life as a Christian and not as a Christian, because life is uncomfortable in this fallen state.
- 44:38Speaker 3: But the promise of the gospel is that one day you will experience true joy, no more discomfort in heaven, and until then, the goal of God in your life is to make you more like his son.
- 44:52Speaker 3: He's more interested in your holiness than he is in your happiness.
- 44:55Speaker 4: I think it's summed up in the scripture riches profit not in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
- 45:01Speaker 4: That's what we should be seeking to make sure we have the righteousness of Christ on the day of wrath.
- 45:07Speaker 1: And therefore it's possible to be joyful and not happy.
- 45:11Speaker 3: That's possible right, and so what I was going to get to earlier is inside of Ray's book.
- 45:14Speaker 1: God has a Wonderful Plan for your Life.
- 45:15Speaker 1: He talks about how, on April 12th 1912, is the date Titanic went down.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Right around that time you think of the people inside the lifeboats and they're looking at their family go down in the North Atlantic, down into this icy grave.
- 45:30Speaker 1: If you were to stop everything, freeze, frame the event and interview the people inside the life raft and say, aren't you happy?
- 45:37Speaker 1: It's like, well, there's a joy that's inexpressible in that you know that you're saved.
- 45:43Speaker 1: But I can't say that I'm happy as I see my loved ones and my friends that I just made die right before my eyes.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I wasn't happy when I saw certain things inside my life.
- 45:54Speaker 1: I'm not happy in those, but I have a joy.
- 45:56Speaker 1: I have a joy and I have a certainty that God is at work and he is working all things together for my good.
- 46:03Speaker 2: I think Peter captured it well First.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Peter 1.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Oh wow.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Well, you didn't give the verse.
- 46:09Speaker 1: You know, 1 Peter 1.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Oh wow, well, you didn't give the verse, you just gave the whole chapter 1.
- 46:12Speaker 4: Peter 1 what Give us the?
- 46:14Speaker 2: verse.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Let me see 1 Peter beginning in verse 6.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Yes, good one.
- 46:25Speaker 4: That's a good one, love it.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Buffoons man.
- 46:27Speaker 2: In this you greatly rejoice though now, for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom, having not seen you love though now you do not see him yet believing you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory.
- 46:55Speaker 4: What sort of joy is that?
- 46:56Speaker 4: Could you explain?
- 46:58Speaker 2: it yeah, but before that no, it's inexpressible, you can't.
- 47:02Speaker 2: He said yeah yeah, I can.
- 47:05Speaker 2: But the verse before the one I read.
- 47:08Speaker 2: He talked about how we have a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance and corruptible, undefiled and that will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.
- 47:19Speaker 2: So sandwiched between that is the joy right, and he connects that with rejoicing in loving Jesus.
- 47:27Speaker 2: So what more do we need for joy?
- 47:30Speaker 2: And again, I love the fact you guys highlighted that, the reality that we can be sad and have joy, we can grieve, we can lament, we can experience emotional pain.
- 47:40Speaker 4: Though the fig tree does not blossom.
- 47:42Speaker 4: You know that verse Habakkuk, one of my favorites.
- 47:45Speaker 2: Habakkuk, habakkuk, but you know what I'm saying.
- 47:48Speaker 2: It's like what more do we need?
- 47:51Speaker 2: Then?
- 47:51Speaker 2: We're going to heaven and connected with what Peter is saying we don't see Jesus now.
- 47:59Speaker 2: We've never seen him.
- 48:00Speaker 2: We don't see him now.
- 48:01Speaker 2: We rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Why?
- 48:04Speaker 2: Because heaven is really Jesus.
- 48:07Speaker 2: We're going to go be with him and that's the joy that carries us through.
- 48:11Speaker 2: I'm weeping, I'm crying, I'm in pain, but I'm not undone, I'm not utterly destroyed, because I'm going to go to be with Jesus, the one that I love, the one that loves me, who loved me I mean, paul says this who loved me and gave himself for me.
- 48:30Speaker 2: What more do we need?
- 48:32Speaker 4: That's the essence of our faith.
- 48:33Speaker 4: I'm just thinking the Bible verse if any man loved not our Lord Jesus Christ, let him be anathema.
- 48:39Speaker 3: That's what scripture says.
- 48:41Speaker 4: So, that's the essence of loving God with heart, mind, soul and strength, putting your affection upon Jesus yeah, I love what you're pointing out Easy.
- 48:49Speaker 3: It reminds me of James 1, 2 to 4, which is my brethren.
- 48:54Speaker 3: Count it all joy when you fall into various trials.
- 48:58Speaker 3: And I love the way that it uses the phrase count it all joy because it reminds us to, I think.
- 49:03Speaker 3: Look at life as an accountant, and an accountant looks at a profit and loss sheet.
- 49:07Speaker 3: And so if you look at your life and you're like I've got these bills, this car payment, this mortgage, this medical bill, and that equals $10,000 a month in debt, you might feel the wave at all.
- 49:19Speaker 3: That's your present day trials.
- 49:21Speaker 3: But if you look at your profit sheet and you're like I make $10 million a month, then that $10,000 means nothing.
- 49:30Speaker 3: And that same way, when you look at the various trials of your life, count it up these are your trials.
- 49:33Speaker 3: But also count up the eternal treasure, the inheritance you're getting in heaven and realize, count it all joy.
- 49:41Speaker 3: You're good.
- 49:42Speaker 3: The profit is much greater than the loss.
- 49:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Oh, it's so good.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you guys know, our house just flooded recently, right, yeah, right Right before I went to Cuba, the day before the house floods and basically everything's ripped out, and you know it's.
- 49:59Speaker 2: I mean we're.
- 50:00Speaker 2: It's just weird.
- 50:01Speaker 2: We're living with bare floors, open walls Sounds amazing actually Like a regular modern house and what did you discover yesterday?
- 50:10Speaker 4: Oh, asbestos in my house.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Trifecta, so you know.
- 50:16Speaker 2: But again, rachel and I, we just looked at each other and we just said look, how blessed we are right.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Like circumstantially.
- 50:22Speaker 2: But if we train ourselves to when those things strike, I'm going to heaven.
- 50:28Speaker 2: I'm going to be with Jesus, Okay now.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Yeah, we're dealing with hard, but let that hold us and carry us through.
- 50:38Speaker 4: Don't be looking to this temporal happiness.
- 50:39Speaker 4: Yeah, seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all that junk will be added.
- 50:43Speaker 4: I added that word, junk Added unto you.
- 50:47Speaker 2: All right, let's look at some verses that are misinterpreted, unless you guys have some you want to throw in here, name it, claim it follow your heart.
- 50:55Speaker 1: If you have enough faith, you're going to be healed.
- 50:57Speaker 4: Yeah, they're absolutely great.
- 50:58Speaker 4: What?
- 50:59Speaker 4: Let's look at those.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Did you say they sound great?
- 51:03Speaker 2: Yeah, great samples.
- 51:05Speaker 2: When you think about.
- 51:06Speaker 1: If you have enough faith, you'll be healed.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Boy, it's such a difficult one.
- 51:11Speaker 1: We hear it all the time.
- 51:12Speaker 1: I like to point out the fact where we had the paralytic, that was lowered through the roof down to Jesus, and it was the faith of the friends, not the faith of the individual, who needed to be healed.
- 51:26Speaker 1: So if somebody says well, you need to have enough faith, I say well, let it who needed to be healed.
- 51:28Speaker 1: So if somebody says well, you need to have enough faith, I say well, let it be according to your faith.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Where's your faith?
- 51:33Speaker 1: It doesn't have to be the faith of that individual, and it's a great example in the midst of that Well, the paralex.
- 51:38Speaker 4: When your friends let you down, jesus will lift you up.
- 51:40Speaker 4: Elevators will let you down.
- 51:43Speaker 1: That's right.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Elevators will let you down?
- 51:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good, All right.
- 51:48Speaker 2: Well, let's touch on a few.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Do you have something, Oscar?
- 51:49Speaker 2: Are we going to say something?
- 51:50Speaker 3: Are we going to cover hate the sin, love the sinner?
- 51:53Speaker 2: Go ahead?
- 51:53Speaker 2: No, I don't want to.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Well, we are limited Go ahead, what do?
- 51:59Speaker 1: you got.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Give us the absolute best here.
- 52:02Speaker 2: it is the best we could possibly have Well okay, I want to get into misquoted, so out of context.
- 52:07Speaker 2: We talked about we're going to do that.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Philippians 4.13.
- 52:10Speaker 2: What Powerful.
- 52:12Speaker 2: I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Steph Curry on his shoes.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Everywhere.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Mark, explain this to us.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it's not that you can literally do anything and everything that you can possibly put your mind to it right, a man will never give birth to a female.
- 52:31Speaker 1: Cont everything that you can possibly put your mind to it right, a man will never give birth to a female.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Contextually, in the midst of that, the Apostle Paul is.
- 52:34Speaker 1: He learned to get by with a little and he learned to get by with a lot when it comes to his daily sustenance.
- 52:38Speaker 1: You know, I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me, but what we do is we misapply that to be anything right.
- 52:46Speaker 1: I mean, just name it, name it and it's gonna fall into place.
- 52:50Speaker 2: Yeah and boy.
- 52:51Speaker 2: This is so key when it comes to hermeneutics right Proper interpretation of Scripture.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Let me read the context of that.
- 52:57Speaker 3: I was about to say yeah, please.
- 52:59Speaker 2: So Philippians 4, 10 to 13,.
- 53:00Speaker 2: But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now, at last, your care for me has flourished again, though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.
- 53:07Speaker 2: Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content.
- 53:12Speaker 2: I know how to be abased and I know how to abound Everywhere and on all things.
- 53:20Speaker 2: I've learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
- 53:21Speaker 2: I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
- 53:24Speaker 2: See that you get the context Paul is talking about.
- 53:28Speaker 2: No matter what situation he's in, he's suffering, he's abounding, he can what, he can be sustained because of Christ, and he can endure all those sorts of things, and even I mean you take the backdrop of this letter to the Philippian church.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Paul has been shipwrecked, his body has been utterly beaten, he's been kicked out of cities, and he is writing this letter while in prison.
- 53:54Speaker 3: And so the context isn't I can do all things.
- 53:58Speaker 3: It's more like I'm experiencing all of these trials and I will make it through them because God is strengthening me, which hearkens back to God, helps those who help themselves, like Paul is recognizing.
- 54:10Speaker 3: I can't help myself, but the Lord is here with me so reverently.
- 54:14Speaker 4: But there's a lot of ear-tickling scriptures that people just.
- 54:17Speaker 4: That appeals to the flesh.
- 54:18Speaker 4: I was telling you yesterday that I tried something different at Huntington Beach when I was interviewing people.
- 54:24Speaker 4: I got a Bible verse and wrote it down and quoted it to someone and said tell me what you think it means.
- 54:28Speaker 4: And I thought that's a good thing to do get unsaved people to tell us what this Bible verse means.
- 54:33Speaker 4: I thought I want to do that more often.
- 54:34Speaker 4: So I got on Amazon and I found little Bible promises a hundred of them in a little box.
- 54:38Speaker 4: I thought this will be great, open it up.
- 54:40Speaker 4: And it was all air ticklers, it was all.
- 54:43Speaker 4: I have plans for you, no way.
- 54:44Speaker 4: Yeah and I thought so.
- 54:46Speaker 4: I've just ordered, printed on a card just today, Bible verses about sin, righteousness and judgment that we can memorize, and they're not ear ticklers, and that's what's missing in so much of today's Christendom.
- 55:01Speaker 2: I love the way that that's put.
- 55:03Speaker 2: You know ear tickling, because that's what it?
- 55:05Speaker 2: Is, you know it's like oh, my ear likes to hear that don't tell me hard things, you know that I can you show us what you're tickling?
- 55:11Speaker 2: Take all my x, and take all my x, yeah I haven't watched that in decades yeah, we know, yeah, this is um, uh, this is, this is a good one.
- 55:27Speaker 2: That, I think again, is another example of bad hermeneutics, when people will take things and do that.
- 55:32Speaker 4: Could you define hermeneutics?
- 55:33Speaker 3: Her-men.
- 55:35Speaker 4: This woman has men, hermeneutics is the correct biblical interpretation of I'm trying to find this first.
- 55:45Speaker 4: What the writer's intended.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Is that correct Easy?
- 55:51Speaker 3: When Easy's checking his sports betting, we could do a barbershop.
- 55:54Speaker 3: What'd you say when Easy's checking his sports betting?
- 56:01Speaker 2: Oh, this is my oh yeah, here, it is here, it is here, it is Okay.
- 56:05Speaker 2: Genesis 31.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Mishpah you guys heard about Mishpah.
- 56:09Speaker 2: Okay, Mishpah, also Mishpah, because he said may the Lord watch between you and me when we are absent one from another.
- 56:19Speaker 2: And often people you'll see this on, jewelry, you'll see this on, but this is between Jacob and Laban, when, when you know, jacob had left and taken off and they were making this, this between them because they didn't trust each other.
- 56:35Speaker 2: And he said you know, he's taken his wife's and kids and everything and taking off, and and Laban, you know Laban didn't trust him, and so things like that, oh, may the Lord watch between me and you when we're absent from each other.
- 56:47Speaker 2: No, he's saying, like God's witness, if you try to come back and do something to hurt me or whatever.
- 56:53Speaker 4: So, yeah, things like that.
- 56:54Speaker 4: That was very good, ez.
- 56:55Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 56:56Speaker 2: I have no idea.
- 56:57Speaker 3: what you just said Sounds like a sermon in the making.
- 57:02Speaker 4: I understood.
- 57:02Speaker 4: Nice rough draft have to make sense next time.
- 57:09Speaker 2: EZ it.
- 57:10Speaker 2: That makes sense next time.
- 57:11Speaker 2: It was great, I loved it.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Oh, I love myself.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Okay, matthew, 7.1.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Judge not that you be not judged.
- 57:17Speaker 4: That's the world's favorite Bible verse.
- 57:19Speaker 4: Talk about that, ray.
- 57:20Speaker 4: Yeah, it's talking about Christians putting one another down, judging your brother, because he's talking to the Christians they gathered around him in the Sermon on the Mount and it's in reference or in correlation to Romans 14.
- 57:32Speaker 4: Who are you to put your brother down?
- 57:34Speaker 4: Set him at naught, as the KJV says Further on in the scriptures I think another chapter.
- 57:39Speaker 4: Jesus said when you judge, use righteous judgment.
- 57:42Speaker 4: In other words, if you see an elderly lady, someone going to punch her in the face and she falls down, you can say to yourself that's not morally right.
- 57:49Speaker 4: You can make a moral judgment.
- 57:52Speaker 4: And so Christians have no judgment in their hearts when it comes to morality.
- 57:57Speaker 4: We can make those judgments.
- 58:00Speaker 2: Yeah, paul in Corinthians, when he was talking about I believe it's 1 Corinthians 5, he was talking about putting away the wicked man from yourselves and he says do you not judge those who are in the church, those who are outside?
- 58:15Speaker 2: God judges, but do you not judge, in other words, don't you make a judgment morally, on those that are professing Christ.
- 58:22Speaker 2: You know we get a bad rap for this often when we talk about true and false conversion.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Oh, you're judging people.
- 58:27Speaker 2: No, we're saying hey, examine the fruit, because scripture says this If we say we have fellowship with God but walk in darkness, we lie and don't practice the truth.
- 58:34Speaker 2: By this we know we come to know him and we keep his commandments.
- 58:37Speaker 2: So one who says I've come to know him but doesn't keep his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him.
- 58:40Speaker 2: Titus 1.16, to me on that day, lord, lord, right.
- 58:42Speaker 2: And he's going to say to them I never knew you.
- 58:50Speaker 2: So it's important.
- 58:51Speaker 2: This is very, very key, because I think a lot of Christians, oscar, you might agree don't say the things they should to people, because all they're going to think I'm judging them.
- 59:02Speaker 3: And maybe one of the things that holds us back from saying the right thing is we know we have sin in our own hearts.
- 59:06Speaker 3: We think to ourselves well, I see the sin in them, but I know that they see that same sin in me, which reminds me of the process of the Levitical priests in the Old Testament, and this is what we should do.
- 59:16Speaker 3: You know, at the Day of Atonement, the priests would go before the Lord and represent the people and ask for forgiveness.
- 59:22Speaker 3: But before they did that, before they talked about the sin in others that was in need and forgiveness, the Levitical priests would look at the sin in themselves.
- 59:32Speaker 3: They would go through a cleansing process because they knew that if they stepped past that curtain in an unrighteous way, they would be struck down dead.
- 59:42Speaker 3: And so we need to come before the Lord and we need to confess our sins.
- 59:46Speaker 3: We need to not approach people in hypocritical ways.
- 59:48Speaker 3: This is sort of the opposite end of that, in that we can be a bad kind of judgmental in which we have a self-righteousness, in which we're unwilling to see our own sin, in which we're calling other people out while they're looking at us going man, you're right next to me in all of this, and so I think we ought to examine our own hearts and come before the Lord and practice public repentance to the people in our lives so that we can speak with a clear conscience and not be held, not be reserved, because we know that we're no one to speak.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: Amen.
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: And often that being leveled at judge, not least to be judged as to the Christian who's trying to share the gospel with an unsaved person.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: And the way to handle that I've found, is just to ask questions, Like Paul did in Romans 2,.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: You say you shall not steal.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: Do you steal?
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: You don't say you're a thief.
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: You let them say that.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and also a part of being judgmental is judging people's hearts, people's motives, things that you can't possibly know.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: But when it comes to external actions that violate God's word, yeah, that's a judgment, but the word of God is making the judgment.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: You're agreeing with what it says?
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: And to somebody who might be like.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Well, I feel uncomfortable using the 10 commandments and the law and evangelism.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: Does God not send judges?
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: He sends judges.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: You are not judging by your own standards.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: You're coming as a herald to the great judge who has judged us all.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Amen, good, all right, just one I'll touch on real quickly as we wrap up, and that's Romans 8, 28,.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: And we know that God causes all things to work together for good.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: Yes, it's true, but always remember the context is in that, as he conforms us into the image of Christ, the reason why it's important to understand this is because people will interpret that in oh okay, well, my car just broke down, so now God's going to give me a brand new Lamborghini as a hypothetical, like the one Ray just got.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: Oh, I have a Lamborghini A's, eh, toy one, cave Really.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Oh, I have a Lamborghini AZ, toy one, oh, a toy one, yeah, caveat.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: Yeah, aren't all your things toys?
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: It's the only thing he fits in.
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: What do you think of people at button?
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: Stop it.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: But it's important to understand that what that's meaning is, even if you go through difficult circumstances and things don't turn out the way you want them to, god is still going to use that circumstance for the good, and that he's making you more like Christ and that's the greatest hope, because that thing that may go good.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: Now you're thinking, oh no, what if something happens to it again?
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: But no, it's unconditional, because he's conforming us Doesn't mean that, principally, god doesn't impact circumstances positively at times, but that's not what we're looking at, and the importance is context.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Amen, times, but that's not what we're looking at and the importance is context.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Amen, amen, amen.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Wow, this was fun.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: A lot more frowns.
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: But hey, be a Berean, be in a Berean insertion and see if what is said is true.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Is it agreeing with what is heard and taught by many?
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: Because plenty distort and twist the scriptures to their own destruction.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: They don't follow my God's instruction.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: What?
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: do you say Quaker you like?
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: That Just be clear.
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: Next, time.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: Yeah, get a little clear.
