Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I work in customer service. Being Friday, things were busier
- 0:04Speaker 1: than usual for us. Our manager, Dell, is the superstitious type,
- 0:09Speaker 1: and he was adamant that we keep our eyes peeled
- 0:11Speaker 1: for trouble since it's also the thirteen. While hectic, nothing
- 0:16Speaker 1: out of the ordinary happened, that is until we got
- 0:20Speaker 1: one particular customer.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I've been a loyal shopper at Walmart for over thirty years.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Things used to be great there untill your generation decided
- 0:33Speaker 2: to screw things up.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Hi, Cassie, Hi, Caitlin, Hi, creepy people.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Oh hellou Helle.
- 0:48Speaker 1: This is PNW Haunts and Homicides where we chat about
- 0:52Speaker 1: true crime, the very normal, and Friday the thirteenth.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Ooh, I'm very excited for this spooky sounds. I love
- 1:06Speaker 3: Friday the thirteenth, not just the movie.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not gonna lie to you. It was actually
- 1:13Speaker 1: for some of what I wanted to do for this episode.
- 1:16Speaker 1: It was a little bit hard not to just keep
- 1:18Speaker 1: coming across stuff related to the movie, and it was
- 1:24Speaker 1: not a little frustrating. So this is not about the movie. Correct, No,
- 1:30Speaker 1: it is not. No, but we will still do a
- 1:33Speaker 1: che reading at the end of the episode for a
- 1:36Speaker 1: little bit of deeper insight into our topic. Okay, So
- 1:40Speaker 1: here's the part where I have to say both of
- 1:43Speaker 1: these incredibly long terms that are not easy to say.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I'm looking at the script here and dear Baby Jesus,
- 1:55Speaker 1: after I get through this, I don't have to say
- 1:57Speaker 1: them again. I don't think so peresca dive decca triphobia
- 2:05Speaker 1: or for good trisca decaphobia. I think that one's easier.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Are both specific long form terms for the fear of
- 2:16Speaker 1: Friday the thirteenth, distinct from trisca decaphobia the fear of
- 2:23Speaker 1: the number thirteen itself. It involves heightened anxiety, avoidance, or
- 2:32Speaker 1: ritualistic behaviors often linked to superstitions about bad luck.
- 2:38Speaker 3: So I think we talked about it in I think
- 2:42Speaker 3: I did a Friday the thirteenth episode or something I did,
- 2:46Speaker 3: like a episode about thirteen.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Fear of the number thirteen did come up, but not.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Specifically the fear of Friday the thirteenth, which I'm glad
- 2:55Speaker 3: I didn't go into.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Yes, I'm glad you have to say it that way,
- 3:01Speaker 4: I know.
- 3:02Speaker 1: So if you were a member of the Knights Templar
- 3:06Speaker 1: in medieval France, Friday the thirteenth was a date worth fearing.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It turned out it wasn't just unlucky, it was a
- 3:15Speaker 1: death sentence.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Oh shit.
- 3:18Speaker 1: On October thirteenth, thirteen oh seven, King Philip the Fourth
- 3:25Speaker 1: ordered the mass arrest of the Templars, an immensely powerful
- 3:30Speaker 1: and extremely wealthy religious military order. Philip known as Philip
- 3:37Speaker 1: the Fair for his good looks, certainly not his character.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So they weren't saying, oh, what a fair king like, Oh,
- 3:45Speaker 1: he's really equal and balanced and ethical. They were saying, oh,
- 3:50Speaker 1: look at his pretty pretty face. He had a problem.
- 3:53Speaker 3: He got nine to nine problems with the face a one.
- 3:55Speaker 1: He owed them a fortune. So he did what many
- 3:59Speaker 1: powerful men have done throughout history to solve their problems.
- 4:03Speaker 1: He made up crimes.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Oh boy.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Rather than repay his debts, he turned to accusations of
- 4:10Speaker 1: heresy and devil worship to justify wiping them out. More
- 4:16Speaker 1: than six hundred Templars were arrested, tortured into false confessions,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and ultimately executed.
- 4:24Speaker 4: God blake.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Did he think he was just going to rely on
- 4:27Speaker 3: his pretty face to like pay his debt?
- 4:30Speaker 1: No, I'm pretty sure he thought he could just rely
- 4:32Speaker 1: on murder to take care of it what a dickle, So,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I know, really terribly rude. They're riches absorbed by the crown,
- 4:42Speaker 1: their order erased, proof that sometimes the real evil isn't superstition,
- 4:48Speaker 1: but greed wearing a crown. That is one very bad Friday.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Uh yeah, I thought you're saying one very freaky Friday,
- 4:57Speaker 3: and I was gonna be like, oh.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Friday the thirteenth isn't always about mass arrests, torture, and executions.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Sometimes it just wipes out your retirement account. While medieval
- 5:10Speaker 1: power plays gave the date its blood soaked reputation, modern
- 5:15Speaker 1: Friday the thirteenth have found new ways to inspire fear
- 5:19Speaker 1: enter financial fiasco. It's a little bit less terrifying, I
- 5:26Speaker 1: will say, than you know, a gruesome death.
- 5:29Speaker 4: But still yeah, but I mean a lot of people
- 5:33Speaker 4: think money is real, so like this is like.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, I mean I think it's very real for
- 5:40Speaker 1: all of us that have to use money, whether it's
- 5:42Speaker 1: real or not, to pay for things to keep us alive.
- 5:45Speaker 3: You know. Yeah, it's kind of a complicated system. It
- 5:49Speaker 3: really is complicated feelings all around.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yep. Even the markets aren't entirely immune to superstition. Same
- 5:59Speaker 1: cursed calendar date, fewer swords, much more screaming about money.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Friday the thirteenth has a way of reinventing itself. On Friday,
- 6:09Speaker 1: October thirteenth, nineteen eighty nine, the stock market took a
- 6:14Speaker 1: sharp dive in what's known as the Friday the thirteenth
- 6:18Speaker 1: Mini crash, what.
- 6:20Speaker 3: They call it mini. So like that makes it feel
- 6:22Speaker 3: kind of cute.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think it ended up being that cute.
- 6:26Speaker 1: The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped nearly seven percent in
- 6:30Speaker 1: a single session, rattling investors already wary after the nineteen
- 6:35Speaker 1: eighty seven collapse. So it was like kind of preceded
- 6:38Speaker 1: by something a little bit less mini.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Okay, it's seven percent, Like that sounds really small to me,
- 6:44Speaker 3: but that's like really big for the investors.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's that's a pretty big that's a pretty
- 6:50Speaker 1: big deal for like you're talking about the entirety of
- 6:54Speaker 1: the stock market, basically Dow Jones Industrial Average. I'm certain
- 6:58Speaker 1: I'm not a day trader, I you know, not a
- 7:00Speaker 1: broker or anything, but that that affects like a huge
- 7:04Speaker 1: swath of publicly traded companies. It's a it's a lot money.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Oh sheh.
- 7:13Speaker 3: It.
- 7:13Speaker 1: The trigger wasn't superstition, but computers automated trading programs reacting
- 7:20Speaker 1: to news about a failed leveraged buyout of United Airlines
- 7:25Speaker 1: helped accelerate the fall. The panic was short lived, but
- 7:29Speaker 1: the damage was real and the message was clear. Friday
- 7:33Speaker 1: the thirteenth didn't need ghosts or curses to cause fear.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Sometimes all it took was an algorithm, no executions, no
- 7:44Speaker 1: dungeon cells, just flashing red numbers and investors realizing that
- 7:49Speaker 1: even modern systems can unravel spectacularly. The timing alone ensured
- 7:55Speaker 1: the date's place in history. Another Friday the thirteenth tied
- 7:59Speaker 1: to CAS, this time measured in dollars instead of lives.
- 8:05Speaker 1: It kind of reminded me of Y two k.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Oh that, yeah, that makes sense.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You know everybody kind of panicked. Yeah, when it was like, okay,
- 8:14Speaker 1: something happened and like this isn't good, but it kind
- 8:18Speaker 1: of snowballed because of people's reaction of fear.
- 8:22Speaker 3: What are the computers gonna do? We don't know. We
- 8:24Speaker 3: built them, but we have no control.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Right. Well, the thing is is that, like, for the
- 8:32Speaker 1: most part, my recollection is with Y two k In particular,
- 8:36Speaker 1: there were a lot of computer experts that were like,
- 8:40Speaker 1: I guess we can't rule anything out, But there were
- 8:42Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of them that were like
- 8:44Speaker 1: pretty outspoken about like Y two K being like a
- 8:48Speaker 1: non event. They're like, listen, we built these and this
- 8:53Speaker 1: is just like everybody's freaking out. But the reality is that,
- 8:56Speaker 1: like we're pretty sure none of that's gonna happen.
- 8:59Speaker 3: But it's seems like, you know, the toilet paper shortage,
- 9:02Speaker 3: like the same con.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Like all of all the normies are freaking out and
- 9:08Speaker 4: all of the calmed down. We're not out of toilet paper.
- 9:12Speaker 4: It's just just ay the day.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I mean, the to be fair, the toilet
- 9:18Speaker 1: paper situation during COVID, like that was a lot more
- 9:21Speaker 1: real because people were going to the grocery store and
- 9:25Speaker 1: not able to like buy toilet paper.
- 9:27Speaker 3: But like we were making the shortage though, like because
- 9:30Speaker 3: we're stalking people were freaking out. No for sure actual
- 9:34Speaker 3: toilet paper.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Again, just a situation where like it's worsened by people
- 9:40Speaker 1: reacting in fear. Yeah, almost like there's some sort of
- 9:44Speaker 1: a message in.
- 9:45Speaker 3: That and no one wants to listen to the smart
- 9:50Speaker 3: kid in the class going actually it's gonna be okay.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Because actually, yeah, Friday the thirteenth has warned a lot
- 10:00Speaker 1: of masks over the centuries. Sometimes it looks like political betrayal,
- 10:05Speaker 1: sometimes financial collapse. But not every Friday the Thirteenth ends
- 10:10Speaker 1: in executions or economic free fall.
- 10:13Speaker 4: God, I hope not.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Sometimes, whether spooky or sinister, it sneaks up where you
- 10:19Speaker 1: least expect it, not in castles or stock exchanges, but
- 10:24Speaker 1: under fluorescent lights, between clearanciles and customer service counters. And
- 10:30Speaker 1: let's face it, fluorescent lighting is the scariest of all
- 10:36Speaker 1: of those scenarios.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Seriously, Yeah, especially right now, I'm fighting a migraine.
- 10:44Speaker 1: So like, yeah, oh god, there's nothing worse. Yeah, I know.
- 10:49Speaker 1: It's deeply humbling for legal and spiritual reasons. The following
- 10:56Speaker 1: story is fictional. Allegedly. It comes from Reddit's r slash
- 11:04Speaker 1: no Sleep community and was posted under the title it's
- 11:08Speaker 1: Friday the thirteenth and I Met a Witch at my
- 11:11Speaker 1: retail job by Rose Black. We'll link to more of
- 11:16Speaker 1: their work and socials in the show notes, because holy shit,
- 11:23Speaker 1: they have actually quite a few stories that I came across,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and this one. Boy, Once I start going on a theme,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I felt like it just had to be here. It
- 11:34Speaker 1: reads like a familiar retail nightmare, well sort of, just
- 11:39Speaker 1: a customer who takes a complaint way too far. Whether
- 11:44Speaker 1: you believe Friday the thirteenth invites chaos or just reveals
- 11:48Speaker 1: what was already waiting, this is what happened next allegedly. Okay,
- 11:57Speaker 1: so starting our story. It's September, which means it's nearly
- 12:03Speaker 1: my favorite season fall. Yes, the scorching heat is at
- 12:08Speaker 1: least cooling down to a nice middling temperature until the
- 12:11Speaker 1: winter chills set in. All the back to school supplies
- 12:15Speaker 1: have given way to autumn decor such as fake pumpkins,
- 12:19Speaker 1: rubber masks, lawn inflatables, and monster animatronics.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Oh can we skip summer?
- 12:28Speaker 2: No?
- 12:29Speaker 1: Speaking of back to school, a bonus is seeing fewer
- 12:33Speaker 1: children during the week. Look, I don't have anything against
- 12:37Speaker 1: kids provided they are a minimal distance of fifty feet
- 12:41Speaker 1: from me. But when they are running around screaming while
- 12:44Speaker 1: their parents have this vacant look in their eyes, that's
- 12:47Speaker 1: when I have a problem. Dude.
- 12:49Speaker 3: This literally happened to me the other day walking into
- 12:51Speaker 3: the store. Two kids came running at me, and I
- 12:54Speaker 3: was like freshly broken. I was picking up prescriptions. You're
- 12:59Speaker 3: in my boot for me, like I can't dodge you,
- 13:02Speaker 3: and they just like ran at it was and the
- 13:05Speaker 3: mom was just like strolling.
- 13:07Speaker 4: In way behind them, and I'm like, fine, judgment.
- 13:10Speaker 1: R No, definitely judgment. Fuck you get your fucking brats
- 13:15Speaker 1: on a leash or something. Can you imagine like if
- 13:20Speaker 1: like people just let their pets do that, there like
- 13:23Speaker 1: would be riots, but like you're allowed to just let
- 13:26Speaker 1: your kid be a fucking asshole. No.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 13:31Speaker 1: If you happen to disagree, spend a few years working
- 13:34Speaker 1: retail at Walmart like I have, and see if you
- 13:37Speaker 1: don't change your tune. In fairness, that's only scratching the
- 13:41Speaker 1: surface of the problems going on in those stores. As
- 13:45Speaker 1: bad as that can be, it's harmless most of the time.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Only ever going into the make me want to rip
- 13:51Speaker 1: my hair out in frustration territory. I can't say the
- 13:56Speaker 1: same about what happened today. I work in customer service.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Being Friday, things were busier than usual for us. Our manager, Dell,
- 14:07Speaker 1: is the superstitious type, and he was adamant that we
- 14:10Speaker 1: keep our eyes peeled for trouble since it's also the
- 14:13Speaker 1: thirteen While hectic. Nothing out of the ordinary happened, that is,
- 14:20Speaker 1: until we got one particular customer. My coworker Steve and
- 14:25Speaker 1: I were holding down the fort trying to help customers
- 14:27Speaker 1: as best we could. I was currently having my ear
- 14:31Speaker 1: talked off on the phone.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I've been a loyal shopper at Walmart for over thirty years.
- 14:37Speaker 1: He's already mentioned this several times. I understand sir, things
- 14:43Speaker 1: used to.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Be great there until your generation decided to screw things up.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I'm sorry you feel that way. Is there anything we
- 14:50Speaker 1: can do to make it up to you? He went
- 14:53Speaker 1: on a tirade that I wasn't even paying much attention to,
- 14:56Speaker 1: since I had nothing to do with the conversation. From
- 14:59Speaker 1: what I remem it was about those damn democrats running
- 15:03Speaker 1: this country into the ground, several bigoted statements against minorities,
- 15:08Speaker 1: how prayer should be back in schools, and that certain
- 15:11Speaker 1: people need to go back where they came from. I
- 15:15Speaker 1: should mention he was insistent about how not racist he was.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I think there may have also been something in there
- 15:23Speaker 1: about how communists have infiltrated the government. The call dropped,
- 15:28Speaker 1: making me momentarily grateful Upper management hadn't sent anyone out
- 15:32Speaker 1: to fix the phones? Thank christ, I breathed, putting the
- 15:37Speaker 1: phone down. Tough call, Steve asked, unwrapping a piece of gum.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Yep, I feel you on that. Any plans afterwork?
- 15:46Speaker 1: I'm going to be watching a horror movie.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Which one?
- 15:51Speaker 1: It's called ta ka ta kay?
- 15:53Speaker 4: Is that Japanese?
- 15:55Speaker 1: Yeah? It's an urban legend about a girl who became
- 15:58Speaker 1: a ghost after her legs were cut off by a train,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and there are two movies about it. Steve popped his
- 16:04Speaker 1: gum in his mouth. Sound pretty cool, he said, while chewing.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Do you want to come over and watch them?
- 16:12Speaker 3: Maybe?
- 16:13Speaker 1: At that moment, Dell came over a panic to look
- 16:16Speaker 1: on his face. Is something wrong? I asked?
- 16:18Speaker 4: Upper management is here?
- 16:20Speaker 1: He replied, breathlessly. What we exclaimed in Unison?
- 16:26Speaker 3: Someone getting carts that he parked outside. I knew something
- 16:30Speaker 3: bad was going to happen today. I just knew it.
- 16:33Speaker 1: All things considered, Dell is decent at his job, but
- 16:36Speaker 1: when he gets overwhelmed, it's like watching a caffeinated hamster
- 16:40Speaker 1: running around its cage. He stopped and took a deep breath.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Okay, we can do this. Be vigilant. Steve spit out
- 16:48Speaker 4: that gum.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Dell went away to check on the other departments. Rolling
- 16:52Speaker 1: his eyes, Steve pulled out one of the trash baskets
- 16:56Speaker 1: keep under the counter, spitting his gum into It. Tends
- 17:00Speaker 1: to be a disconnect between corporate and those who have
- 17:03Speaker 1: to interact with people face to face. As such, inspections
- 17:08Speaker 1: tend to go as follows. They tell us to jump
- 17:12Speaker 1: and we come back down without their permission. We get reprimanded.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Our strategy is to remain as scarce as possible. Usually
- 17:21Speaker 1: this works. Today was another story. Things were going steady
- 17:26Speaker 1: all things considered, then the horde came. Normally, these are
- 17:32Speaker 1: seen further into the holiday season. However, it seems that
- 17:35Speaker 1: Dell was right about how Friday the thirteenth would be
- 17:39Speaker 1: affecting things. I was playing Pokemon Go on my phone
- 17:44Speaker 1: when Steve nudged me with his elbow. I glanced up,
- 17:48Speaker 1: seeing a herd of customers who weren't too happy. Based
- 17:52Speaker 1: on their expressions, they seemed ready to take their anger
- 17:55Speaker 1: out on us. Hence way we refer to them as
- 18:00Speaker 1: hoards aw shit, I murmured. Then she came. Looks of
- 18:05Speaker 1: surprise were coming over people's faces. Someone was pushing their
- 18:09Speaker 1: way to the front. We craned our nuts trying to
- 18:13Speaker 1: spot who was trying to cut their way to the front.
- 18:16Speaker 1: To our confusion, a pointy black hat became visible among
- 18:22Speaker 1: the crowd. Attached to it and emerging to the front
- 18:26Speaker 1: was an old lady in a baggy black dress with
- 18:29Speaker 1: a long, hooked nose. People tried to tell her off.
- 18:33Speaker 1: She gave them such a fierce sink guy. They backed
- 18:36Speaker 1: away instantly and dispersed. Then she came up to the counter.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Hello, ma'am, is there something we can help?
- 18:44Speaker 1: Reaching into her pocket, she pulled something out, slamming it
- 18:48Speaker 1: down on the counter. It was a cat collar. Then
- 18:51Speaker 1: she threw a one hundred dollars gift card beside it.
- 18:55Speaker 1: A few seconds of silence passed, then Steve asked.
- 18:59Speaker 4: Do you want to make a return?
- 19:02Speaker 2: I want more than that for the trouble this store
- 19:05Speaker 2: is given me.
- 19:07Speaker 1: She explained that the adjuster was faulty and that the
- 19:10Speaker 1: caller nearly choked her cat.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Apologies, ma'am, it's been a hectic day. We'll do what
- 19:16Speaker 4: we can to make this.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Up to you.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Is that so?
- 19:20Speaker 1: A grin crept up her face, showing rows of deep yellow,
- 19:24Speaker 1: misshapen blocky teeth.
- 19:27Speaker 2: I think I deserve a little extra for all all
- 19:30Speaker 2: my trouble. Give me this gift card for free, and
- 19:34Speaker 2: will call things even.
- 19:36Speaker 1: The thing about the customer always being right is that
- 19:39Speaker 1: it goes off a cliff if the store's bottom line
- 19:42Speaker 1: might be affected, Well.
- 19:44Speaker 4: I need to check with my manager if I'm allowed
- 19:46Speaker 4: to do that.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Steve went away to call Dell. Meanwhile, sensing a growing tension,
- 19:53Speaker 1: I attempted to diffuse it. Hey, great costume, I told
- 19:58Speaker 1: the lady, are you getting ready for Halloween early? She
- 20:02Speaker 1: seemed confused.
- 20:04Speaker 2: What costume?
- 20:06Speaker 1: The one you're wearing? You're dressed as a witch? Right?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Her eyes narrowed.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I'm not dressed like I am a witch.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Oh, I see my bad, She relaxed a little.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I do have a lot of preparations to make for
- 20:26Speaker 2: the upcoming holiday. Now that you mention it, where's your friend?
- 20:33Speaker 4: Sorry about that? Our manager is busy. I can't reach him.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Steve said, returning from his call.
- 20:39Speaker 4: I'm normally not supposed to do this without permission, but
- 20:43Speaker 4: I can help you out this one time.
- 20:46Speaker 1: The old lady seemed satisfied with that response. Steve was
- 20:49Speaker 1: about to activate the gift card. When we heard someone
- 20:52Speaker 1: speaking with Dell.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Everything is up to standard so far. Which way is
- 20:56Speaker 4: customer service?
- 20:57Speaker 2: Again?
- 20:58Speaker 1: This way, sir with Dell was our district manager, Edmund,
- 21:03Speaker 1: who looks a lot like Kevin O'Leary. He's the kind
- 21:06Speaker 1: of guy who thinks the company standard should be rigidly enforced.
- 21:10Speaker 1: In short, doing the opposite of what he says would
- 21:14Speaker 1: likely improve customer experience. They saw what was happening and
- 21:18Speaker 1: came over. Good afternoon. Miss Dell smiled and told the
- 21:22Speaker 1: old lady, I hope your needs are being met.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yes, I suppose they are. These two are taking care
- 21:29Speaker 2: of something for.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Me, she replied, gesturing at us.
- 21:33Speaker 2: At least some people can do something right in this dump.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Well, it's nice to hear from a customer that our
- 21:39Speaker 3: employees are on top of things. Out of curiosity, what
- 21:43Speaker 3: are they helping you with?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Steve was tapping his fingers on the counter. He only
- 21:48Speaker 1: did that when he was nervous. I could tell he
- 21:51Speaker 1: was thinking, please, don't mention the gift card. She did
- 21:56Speaker 1: exactly that, prompting Steve to curse under his breath at
- 22:00Speaker 1: the mention of it. Edmund decided to get involved.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Now hold on.
- 22:05Speaker 1: He said, to the woman.
- 22:06Speaker 3: How much did you pay for that callar fifteen?
- 22:09Speaker 4: And how much is the gift card do you want?
- 22:11Speaker 1: Worth?
- 22:12Speaker 2: One hundred dollars?
- 22:14Speaker 1: Edmund looked at Steve.
- 22:16Speaker 4: You authorized this without permission.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Steve may as well have been a deer in the headlights.
- 22:22Speaker 3: What are you thinking?
- 22:24Speaker 1: Edmund chastised him.
- 22:25Speaker 3: I was just trying to do the right thing.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Steve replied, before being cut off.
- 22:30Speaker 4: The right thing within reason. I thought you would have
- 22:33Speaker 4: figured that out by now.
- 22:35Speaker 1: The old lady interjected.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Wait a moment, are you saying I won't give my
- 22:40Speaker 2: gift card?
- 22:41Speaker 1: Yes, that's what it means, sorry to say, her eyes
- 22:45Speaker 1: irrupted with anger.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I came out here and waited all.
- 22:49Speaker 1: This time, not accustomed to dealing with other human beings.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Edmund disregarded her, trying to pass her on to Dell.
- 22:59Speaker 1: She didn't take two kindly to that.
- 23:01Speaker 2: You respect your elders when they're talking to you.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Edmund ignored her and was about to walk away. The
- 23:08Speaker 1: woman crossed her arms.
- 23:10Speaker 2: If that's what you want, we'll play hard ball. I'll
- 23:13Speaker 2: give you one chance to change your mind about the
- 23:17Speaker 2: gift card, or there will be hell to pay.
- 23:20Speaker 1: His response conveyed he wasn't the least bit intimidated. The
- 23:25Speaker 1: answer is still no. She pointed a shaking finger at him.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I warned you.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Suddenly, her eyes rolled to the back of her head
- 23:37Speaker 1: and she began chanting.
- 23:39Speaker 4: I think she's having an episode.
- 23:41Speaker 1: That seemed to be the case until the lights started
- 23:44Speaker 1: flickering and uneasy feeling working its way.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Up my back.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Then all hell broke loose. Edmund was talking to Dell
- 23:53Speaker 1: about his new car, when, while cackling, the woman rose
- 23:57Speaker 1: into the air, her eyes filling with inky darkness and
- 24:01Speaker 1: her teeth becoming red, and pointed.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I'll teach you to nine me what I am owed.
- 24:11Speaker 1: We stared, mouths agape as things were rising around her
- 24:15Speaker 1: and the lights were flickering. Several patrons pulled out their
- 24:18Speaker 1: phones to attempt recording her. She wasn't having it. Different
- 24:23Speaker 1: colored whips swirled around her. They made groaning noises. These
- 24:28Speaker 1: must have been the souls of her previous victims. Pointing
- 24:32Speaker 1: her finger at our Halloween display caused the souls to
- 24:35Speaker 1: go into them. The lawn decorations came to life, fueled
- 24:39Speaker 1: by the power of the dark arts. Next thing we knew,
- 24:43Speaker 1: they were off their shelves and going after people in
- 24:46Speaker 1: the store. There was so much happening at once it's
- 24:49Speaker 1: hard to process. The fake jack o' lanterns latched onto
- 24:53Speaker 1: those trying to get footage of the event. An inflatable
- 24:56Speaker 1: Frankenstein monster and Mummy were picking people up and fighting
- 25:00Speaker 1: each other with them. Lastly, a grim reaper was flying
- 25:05Speaker 1: around decapitating people. Heads flew and blood squirted everywhere, all
- 25:12Speaker 1: while that wicked ancient woman was laughing as if this
- 25:15Speaker 1: was the funniest thing to ever unfold. Several security officers,
- 25:19Speaker 1: who were at least thirty pounds overweight, tried shooting at
- 25:22Speaker 1: the old lady while she was distracted, not even bothering
- 25:25Speaker 1: to glance at them. She made several lights fall on
- 25:28Speaker 1: their heads. Then they dropped to the floor dead, nearly
- 25:33Speaker 1: shitting ourselves. We hid under our desk for cover.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Now do you see what happens when I am denied?
- 25:40Speaker 2: When I am owed?
- 25:41Speaker 1: Edmund replied, voice trembling.
- 25:44Speaker 4: Okay, I'm sorry, you'll get your gift card.
- 25:47Speaker 2: It's too late. You had your chance. Now you'll pay.
- 25:52Speaker 1: We heard him run away, crying, repeating a bunch of
- 25:55Speaker 1: curse words to himself. Suddenly, our desk broke off from
- 25:59Speaker 1: the floor, flying through the air at unfathomable speed. Along
- 26:04Speaker 1: with this, several large and heavy objects were sailing through
- 26:07Speaker 1: the air. Then there were several distant thuds. She's blocked
- 26:13Speaker 1: the exits. Someone shouted and panic, We're all gonna die.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Another person shrieked, look.
- 26:21Speaker 2: At them squirming like that, pitiful lands they are.
- 26:25Speaker 1: The woman sneered going after them. Seeing where she was going,
- 26:29Speaker 1: we chose to go the opposite way, under the assumption
- 26:33Speaker 1: it would be safer. Heop Dell's boys came from somewhere
- 26:37Speaker 1: amidst toppled shelves. We were able to lift the one
- 26:41Speaker 1: he was trapped under high enough for him to squeeze
- 26:43Speaker 1: himself out.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Thanks guys. Damn this Friday the thirteenth. You do everything
- 26:48Speaker 4: you can to prepare and you still get blindsided.
- 26:52Speaker 1: We need to hide somewhere, I said, let's head to
- 26:55Speaker 1: the break room. Yeah, once she has Edmund, she'll probably
- 27:00Speaker 1: calmed down. Her next words proved things weren't going to
- 27:04Speaker 1: be that simple.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Where did you go, you sniveling little snake?
- 27:09Speaker 1: There was only one person she could be referring to.
- 27:12Speaker 2: If you don't come out now, I will destroy this
- 27:16Speaker 2: entire star.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Not being one to think of the well being of others,
- 27:21Speaker 1: Edmund stayed hidden. What do we do now, Steve asked, panicking,
- 27:26Speaker 1: Dell slapped him across the face.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Pull yourself together, man, we survived four black Fridays together.
- 27:33Speaker 4: We can survive this. You two find Edmund and drag
- 27:36Speaker 4: has no good ass back here.
- 27:38Speaker 1: You're staying here, I said, shocked, his eyes lit with
- 27:43Speaker 1: a sharp determination.
- 27:45Speaker 3: I'll be dealing with that crazy old lady. How with
- 27:50Speaker 3: superb customer service? Take this?
- 27:53Speaker 1: He handed us his phone. He went off to search
- 27:56Speaker 1: for Edmund, having no luck. While doing so, I saw
- 28:00Speaker 1: that the curse had spread, bringing other objects to life.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Several people lay in the kitchen aisle with knives sticking
- 28:07Speaker 1: out of them in a pool of blood. One person's
- 28:10Speaker 1: hand was in a blunder. Several of our other coworkers
- 28:14Speaker 1: were sitting huddled in pools of blood, hugging their knees,
- 28:17Speaker 1: their chests, rocking back and forth. Another person lay in
- 28:21Speaker 1: the middle of the appliance's aisle with a waffle iron
- 28:24Speaker 1: clamped over his face. The disturbing part was that it
- 28:27Speaker 1: still smelled kind of nice, like fresh waffles. This is
- 28:31Speaker 1: fucked on so many degrees, I said, wondering how we
- 28:35Speaker 1: had managed to survive up to this point, and worried
- 28:38Speaker 1: that could change at any time.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I'm with you, I'm applying to Target after this. Where
- 28:43Speaker 3: do you think Edmond could be hiding? Steve asked, I
- 28:47Speaker 3: don't know. A realization hit me as we reached the
- 28:50Speaker 3: clothing aisle. Wait duh, I said, to Steve's puzzlement. The phone.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Oh, using Dell's phone, we called d Men's number. Instantly,
- 29:02Speaker 1: ringing sounded nearby. We realized it was coming from a
- 29:06Speaker 1: changing room. Steve kicked open the door, showing Edmund huddled
- 29:10Speaker 1: in the corner, bumbling in a panic to decline the call.
- 29:14Speaker 1: We tried pulling him outside.
- 29:16Speaker 3: No she's after me, he.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Whined, clinging to the doorframe as we were yanking on
- 29:22Speaker 1: his legs.
- 29:22Speaker 3: It's a bloodbath out here because you had to be
- 29:24Speaker 3: a fucking douche, So take some responsibility.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Steve screamed. With a final pull, the weight shift sent
- 29:31Speaker 1: us crashing into a nearby display of horror and pumpkin shirts.
- 29:36Speaker 1: We got to our feet. Edmond did as well. A
- 29:40Speaker 1: They Live shirt showing the aliens covered his head. Snatching
- 29:44Speaker 1: it off, he threw it to the floor. How dare you,
- 29:48Speaker 1: he snarled, I'm your superior. You'll end up in the
- 29:51Speaker 1: prison showers when I'm through. Before I was aware of
- 29:54Speaker 1: what was happening, my fist was thrusting forward, connecting with
- 29:58Speaker 1: his nose. I can't side which gave me more pleasure,
- 30:02Speaker 1: feeling the bones on his nose break or seeing blood
- 30:05Speaker 1: gushing from his nostrils. Whichever, it will be a while
- 30:09Speaker 1: before anything tops the satisfaction I was experiencing. Then Edmund
- 30:14Speaker 1: staggered back from the blow, pulling down several shirt racks.
- 30:17Speaker 1: As he fell backward. There was an expression of disbelief,
- 30:21Speaker 1: as if some natural order had been violated, and his
- 30:25Speaker 1: mind was trying to make sense of it. My eyes
- 30:27Speaker 1: went from him to my fist. Something to note about me,
- 30:31Speaker 1: as I am a non confrontational person to a fault. Therefore,
- 30:35Speaker 1: all of the stuff we'd witnessed that day, what I
- 30:38Speaker 1: just did stood out as being especially unbelievable.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Holy shit, dude, I didn't think you had it in you.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Neither did I. We dragged Edmund to the front where
- 30:49Speaker 1: that elderly woman had Dell by the throat.
- 30:52Speaker 4: They'll be back soon. Just give them a little longer.
- 30:54Speaker 2: It's too late. We hadn't gray.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Her fingers squeezed his neck, making his eyes eyes bold stop,
- 31:02Speaker 1: I shouted. Her head whipped in our direction. Then her
- 31:06Speaker 1: lips curled upward as she was lowering herself.
- 31:10Speaker 2: And Dell, well you made it after all, she.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Told us, and then said to Dell.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I guess you managed to survive by the skin of
- 31:18Speaker 2: your teeth. Consider yourself lucky.
- 31:22Speaker 1: She tossed him aside. He hit the wall, sliding down
- 31:25Speaker 1: it with a groan. Steve went to check on him.
- 31:28Speaker 1: It was now me Edmund and the old woman. Her
- 31:32Speaker 1: gaze alone was piercing, and her smile only added to
- 31:35Speaker 1: its iciness.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Your manager cut me quite a deal. Not only do
- 31:40Speaker 2: I get four hundred dollars worth of gift cards, now
- 31:44Speaker 2: I also get to do as I please with this
- 31:47Speaker 2: slimy little worm.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Those words seemed to snap Edmond back to the reality
- 31:52Speaker 1: of the situation. His breath hitched, and he tried in
- 31:55Speaker 1: vain to flee. The elderly woman sent her souls after him,
- 32:00Speaker 1: which wrapped around his body. He was carried back, thrashing.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Please don't kill me, he begged through tears.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Don't do anything don't worry. I won't kill you.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Edmund's teary eyes filled with optimism.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Now I have a better use for you, the.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Old woman said. What occurred next is something that's forever
- 32:23Speaker 1: seared into our memories. She raised her finger, lifting Edmund.
- 32:28Speaker 1: The inky darkness shot out of the elderly lady's eyes,
- 32:32Speaker 1: spreading out and wrapping around Edmund. Screams erupted from within it,
- 32:37Speaker 1: and we could hear the sounds of bones breaking as
- 32:40Speaker 1: they were compressed and rearranged. The woman reabsorbed the inkiness,
- 32:45Speaker 1: revealing what became of Edmund. A loofa on a stick
- 32:50Speaker 1: matching the color of his suit, fell into her open palm.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I could have sworn, I thought, quiver. The implications of
- 32:59Speaker 1: Edmund's fate caught me to shudder.
- 33:01Speaker 2: I believe that wraps everything up. Let this be a lesson.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Never try to cheat me.
- 33:08Speaker 1: The woman was about to leave. What are you, I blurted.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Her eyes met mine. Then she grinned again.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I already told you I'm a witch.
- 33:22Speaker 1: She threw something made of glass down, shattering it and
- 33:26Speaker 1: causing a green cloud of smoke to appear in the store.
- 33:29Speaker 1: When it cleared, she was nowhere to be seen. I
- 33:32Speaker 1: can't begin to convey the cluster fuckness of trying to
- 33:36Speaker 1: explain what happened to the authorities. The cops around here
- 33:39Speaker 1: aren't into doing their job when it counts, so they
- 33:43Speaker 1: as well as chalked everything up to an act of God.
- 33:47Speaker 1: In any case, that store will be closed for a while,
- 33:51Speaker 1: and that means we have to go through the pane
- 33:53Speaker 1: of job surfing. Oh well, we can check out those
- 33:57Speaker 1: Teke Teke films in the meantime. I'll conclude with this,
- 34:02Speaker 1: never mess with a witch, especially during Friday the thirteenth
- 34:08Speaker 1: at Walmart.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Man.
- 34:12Speaker 4: I gotta say, given witches a bad name.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I know, Friday the thirteenth and witches, right, I don't know,
- 34:21Speaker 1: Maybe I have to say I feel like maybe just
- 34:25Speaker 1: the combination of like there's so many people again, it's
- 34:28Speaker 1: just this like self fulfilling prophecy where it's like everybody
- 34:33Speaker 1: just gets so high strung and so stressed out that
- 34:36Speaker 1: it just takes something that really didn't have to be
- 34:39Speaker 1: that bad of a situation and you know, amps it up. Yeah,
- 34:43Speaker 1: and no one is immune, even witches' all.
- 34:47Speaker 3: I'm saying, I just hope the cat's okay. That's her
- 34:53Speaker 3: familiar of course, also thinking about the guy as a lufa, like.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Can you do you imagine you know, she took that
- 35:01Speaker 1: home and that's her ass grub and lufa.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Oh yeah, getting in all the crevasses. You know when
- 35:09Speaker 3: you said something about Friday the thirteenth not turning into
- 35:12Speaker 3: a bloodbath, but you lied to us.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I mean I said it doesn't always, you.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Know, I definitely think this is a true story. I
- 35:25Speaker 3: also did say, allegedly, although I do feel bad for
- 35:33Speaker 3: all the people that passed in the story, it's not funny.
- 35:36Speaker 1: That's that's not so funny. I'm just saying, you know,
- 35:40Speaker 1: stop booking with people.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Being taken out by like a Halloween inflatable has to
- 35:46Speaker 3: be a good way to die though, Oh okay, I
- 35:50Speaker 3: think it's great way to die.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I just feel like it makes your death seem kind
- 35:55Speaker 1: of cartoonish.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:57Speaker 1: As the true crime genre writer, I feel like that
- 36:02Speaker 1: feels disrespectful. But from like the paranormal perspective, I can
- 36:07Speaker 1: see why.
- 36:07Speaker 3: That's like, oh, I love it, but we all know
- 36:11Speaker 3: it's it's uh, it's super true, so yeah, we can't
- 36:15Speaker 3: make any jokes about it. No.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Wow, Okay, I've been shuffling feeling over here for a
- 36:26Speaker 1: little bit, getting a little.
- 36:28Speaker 4: I can't wait to see what we're gonna get.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I know, what does one draw for this very interesting
- 36:36Speaker 1: episode format? What I'm using? The Pacific Northwest or.
- 36:44Speaker 4: The PNW if you're nasty, If you're nasty.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Okay, So where I've I've fanned these out like kind
- 36:52Speaker 1: of the length of my keyboard here. So where do
- 36:56Speaker 1: you feel? Like, where's the energy? What do you think?
- 37:00Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 37:01Speaker 4: I'm just saying a broomstick. Does that help? It's pointing
- 37:05Speaker 4: this way. The broomstick is pointing.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Like your left or my left.
- 37:11Speaker 4: It's pointing to my left. Wait you're right?
- 37:14Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, And like is it pointing dramatically in that
- 37:20Speaker 1: direction or kind of like a slight like veer in
- 37:24Speaker 1: that direction, like dramatically? Okay, all right, let's see. Okay,
- 37:32Speaker 1: I think this is the Three of Swords in reverse.
- 37:35Speaker 1: And remember what they said about the blood Yeah in Decapitation, Yeah,
- 37:42Speaker 1: there were people in the aisle laying in a pool
- 37:44Speaker 1: of blood. Oh yeah, Oh it does have a head. Okay, yeah,
- 37:49Speaker 1: the bird does have a head. But it's like like
- 37:52Speaker 1: these are like dark colored petal, you know, feathers. It
- 37:56Speaker 1: looks like they're laying in a pool of like blood.
- 37:59Speaker 4: It dead.
- 38:00Speaker 3: So go look at the card on her Instagram. But
- 38:02Speaker 3: I totally thought the head part was like one of
- 38:05Speaker 3: the pedals, so it was like, oh, it's decapitated, but
- 38:08Speaker 3: it's not, just has a redhead. Yeah, it's hard to
- 38:11Speaker 3: see though.
- 38:12Speaker 4: I feel like that is just kind of perfect.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Three of swords in the reverse. I mean it's not
- 38:19Speaker 3: at thirteen, but close enough.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Yeah, the keywords are suffering, heartache, regret, grieving, sorrow, and loss.
- 38:28Speaker 1: In the traditional deck, it's a heart with three swords
- 38:32Speaker 1: piercing it. Just looking at this heart with three swords
- 38:35Speaker 1: piercing it is painful. One of the saddest cards in
- 38:39Speaker 1: the tarot. It symbolizes deep emotional pain, heartbreak, and a
- 38:43Speaker 1: real or perceived tragedy.
- 38:46Speaker 3: That word ache, Oh that yeah, what is interesting because
- 38:51Speaker 3: I was just thinking, well, there was real tragedy in
- 38:53Speaker 3: your story, and real you know, loss of yeah, loss
- 38:57Speaker 3: of money, but also this like perceived allegedly true story exactly.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Well, and this next part I feel like is particularly
- 39:06Speaker 1: appropriate here. You may not manage to avoid the suffering
- 39:10Speaker 1: indicated by the three of swords, However, the card advises
- 39:14Speaker 1: separating true grief from self pity.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Interesting that reminds me of whoever was hiding in the
- 39:22Speaker 3: right changing Yes, Edmund, he was the guy who turned
- 39:26Speaker 3: into the Lufah.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Yeah, this is so funny too, because I feel like this, well,
- 39:33Speaker 1: I think you'll see why. I think this is kind
- 39:36Speaker 1: of funny just given the format of the episode.
- 39:38Speaker 4: But we'll discuss the.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Reverse three of swords is actually less problematic and severe
- 39:45Speaker 1: than the upright three. Like, you know, depending on whether
- 39:49Speaker 1: you believe the story was true or not. It suggests
- 39:54Speaker 1: you're making more of an unhappy situation than necessary, or
- 39:58Speaker 1: that a disappointment is temporary, not the end of the world.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Perhaps the truth hurts, but once you face it, you
- 40:05Speaker 1: can improve things, pull yourself together, and get on with
- 40:08Speaker 1: your life. I feel like if we just think about
- 40:12Speaker 1: that as like a general vibe, maybe that's a good
- 40:16Speaker 1: attitude for Friday of thirteenth. Yeah, does that? Does that track?
- 40:24Speaker 3: Also what you were saying about like kind of a
- 40:26Speaker 3: self fulfilling thing about Friday the thirteenth being bad, Like
- 40:30Speaker 3: you're just waiting for something bad to happen. Yeah, Like,
- 40:33Speaker 3: just calm down, it's fine. Also, if you want to
- 40:36Speaker 3: return a cat collar because it choked your cat, don't
- 40:38Speaker 3: try to get one hundred dollars out of it.
- 40:40Speaker 1: I wouldn't recommend that.
- 40:42Speaker 3: I feel like the switch's name was Karen, just saying
- 40:45Speaker 3: a little bit, right, the Karen of witches.
- 40:50Speaker 1: This is really interesting and I'm really curious to see
- 40:53Speaker 1: what you think about how this applies to the story.
- 40:57Speaker 1: In a reading about money, you may harbor about what
- 41:01Speaker 1: might have been, or you're chastising yourself for a bad decision.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Ooh yeah, like even if she was a care and
- 41:09Speaker 1: maybe we should have appeased the witch, I don't know.
- 41:12Speaker 4: Right, well, he tried and then whoever the well, that's.
- 41:15Speaker 1: What I'm saying that the upper management guy, like, maybe
- 41:18Speaker 1: you should have just left well enough alone.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:22Speaker 1: The reverse three recommends letting go of blame and guilt,
- 41:26Speaker 1: repairing damage, and starting a.
- 41:28Speaker 4: New job surfing.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Yeah, if the reading is about your job, you may
- 41:34Speaker 1: be pulling out of a damaging and hurtful situation.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:38Speaker 1: The reverse three can mean the worst is over and
- 41:41Speaker 1: you've learned from your mistakes. Remain watchful for confusion, deception,
- 41:46Speaker 1: or poor judgment.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Ooh, watch out for them witches.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Man well, and watch out for bad managers. I mean
- 41:53Speaker 1: some of them are now currently inhabiting aloof of form.
- 41:57Speaker 1: But you know, yeah, he's not the only one. In
- 42:02Speaker 1: a reading about love, this card points to painful experiences,
- 42:06Speaker 1: but you're working on past problems and trying to make
- 42:09Speaker 1: things better. You need to let go of jealousy, regrets, guilt,
- 42:14Speaker 1: and fear. Sometimes this card represents accepting a loss and
- 42:19Speaker 1: moving on.
- 42:20Speaker 4: That reminds me of like the investing things too, right, Yeah, I.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Feel like there's a lot of applications to like the
- 42:28Speaker 1: kind of the first part of the episode where it's
- 42:32Speaker 1: like kind of more the biographical section, if you will,
- 42:37Speaker 1: and then there's our kind of more. Uh, I mean
- 42:41Speaker 1: definitely dark, we do. We do dark humor here for sure,
- 42:46Speaker 1: But like the second half with this Redditt story is like, yeah,
- 42:50Speaker 1: oh my gosh.
- 42:52Speaker 4: That's good.
- 42:52Speaker 3: I wasn't sure how the how the terror was gonna go,
- 42:55Speaker 3: But the broomstick in my mind did not disappoint.
- 42:57Speaker 1: It really didn't. I feel like you nailed it. Friend.
- 43:02Speaker 3: I closed my eyes and I was like, how is
- 43:04Speaker 3: this helpful? I'm just seeing a broomstick. We just talked
- 43:06Speaker 3: about a witch and I'm like, oh, but it's pointing.
- 43:08Speaker 4: That other direction.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I love that for us, And this is going to
- 43:14Speaker 1: look great in the tarot altar setup that I have.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I have managed to marry the Friday the
- 43:24Speaker 1: thirteenth theme and Valentine's Day and the card is that
- 43:30Speaker 1: literally m yeah wow, swords and hearts and red and
- 43:36Speaker 1: blood and yikes.
- 43:39Speaker 4: You know, I totally forgot it was Valentine's Day. I like,
- 43:42Speaker 4: we've been talking.
- 43:43Speaker 3: About Friday the thirteenth, February thirteenth, blah blah blah, it's
- 43:46Speaker 3: literally Valentine's Day the next day. Forgot, I know, I know.
- 43:51Speaker 1: So I was, you know, kind of trying to do
- 43:54Speaker 1: my best. I was like, you know what, we might
- 43:56Speaker 1: focus up on Friday the thirteenth and just see how
- 44:00Speaker 1: that goes. But I feel like, you know, kind of
- 44:03Speaker 1: married the two a little bit.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I like it. Love it so fun.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Oh you're so welcome. Yeah. I really enjoyed that. I
- 44:17Speaker 1: have some other stories that I'm interested in doing, Like,
- 44:21Speaker 1: I feel like this is fun for us, something kind
- 44:24Speaker 1: of narrative especially. I feel like for like a theme episode,
- 44:30Speaker 1: it's nice for us because that lets us do something
- 44:33Speaker 1: creative and Hopefully our listeners are, you know, hopefully it's
- 44:37Speaker 1: something that they enjoy that kind of like refreshes us
- 44:41Speaker 1: and yeah, well they are creepy, so exactly exactly. Yeah,
- 44:47Speaker 1: just something to keep the show fresh and fun.
- 44:50Speaker 3: We'll have to all need some voice actor training so
- 44:53Speaker 3: I can bury up my voices a little bit.
- 44:55Speaker 4: I tried, guys, but.
- 44:58Speaker 1: I know it would be a lot easier if we
- 45:00Speaker 1: were both here with the roadcaster, because I feel like
- 45:02Speaker 1: we definitely could have played with that.
- 45:04Speaker 4: Well, if someone could just feel okay and fucking come
- 45:07Speaker 4: over and do her job.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Me.
- 45:09Speaker 3: I'm talking about me.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Hi, you know, what happens will happen, and that's that,
- 45:16Speaker 1: And that's.
- 45:17Speaker 3: The takeaway you should take from this episode. Whatever happens
- 45:20Speaker 3: is gonna happen, and that's that. It's Friday the thirteenth. Yeah,
- 45:24Speaker 3: it's not that serious, Like hopefully nothing actually serious happens.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Yeah, full disclosure, though I did take Friday the thirteenth
- 45:33Speaker 1: off work.
- 45:33Speaker 3: I feel like that says, well, whoa more about.
- 45:38Speaker 1: My not wanting to go to work than it does
- 45:42Speaker 1: the date. But I was like, hey, you know, if
- 45:46Speaker 1: I'm good, let's take a Friday off. Yeah, might as
- 45:51Speaker 1: well do you have any spooky plans. I'm probably going
- 45:57Speaker 1: to start working a little bit more intensely on my
- 46:01Speaker 1: next episode that day.
- 46:03Speaker 4: So if that counts, you're not gonna watch tik tak No,
- 46:08Speaker 4: probably not.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 46:10Speaker 3: I'm interested to see what that is like now.
- 46:12Speaker 4: I want to look it up and see it.
- 46:14Speaker 3: If that is that real? Is that a real movie? Like?
- 46:17Speaker 1: It looks like it might be. And based on the description,
- 46:21Speaker 1: I was like, you know, actually, I think I think
- 46:24Speaker 1: I'm all good.
- 46:25Speaker 3: I read it to you. I want to know.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Okay. So it is a Japanese urban legend about the
- 46:33Speaker 1: ghost of a school girl where her body was split
- 46:36Speaker 1: in half by a train after she had become stuck.
- 46:39Speaker 1: She is a Japanese word for a vengeful spirit who
- 46:43Speaker 1: lurks in urban areas and roams trains at night.
- 46:48Speaker 4: Dude, I want to watch it.
- 46:51Speaker 3: Yeah, this is really interesting. That seems like a good
- 46:56Speaker 3: Valentine's Day movie. Get all snugly and close and scared. Yeah.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Yeah. I have to say, the limited imagery that has
- 47:07Speaker 1: come up based on my very specific search, does look
- 47:11Speaker 1: like it could be quite gruesome. There are also a
- 47:16Speaker 1: number of them that are being blurred out by the
- 47:19Speaker 1: search engine because they're like, that's graphic.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Like the Jesus Nles Oh Jesus Chice chice crast. Okay,
- 47:31Speaker 3: I have to stop looking at this.
- 47:33Speaker 2: That was horrible.
- 47:35Speaker 4: You're gonna have nightmares.
- 47:37Speaker 3: You gonna have nightmares.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Oh my god, she looks like the girl from the Ring.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Oh okay, I don't know we're talking. No, nope, loosing
- 47:48Speaker 1: that tab and am out.
- 47:51Speaker 3: Speaking of witches and scary movies, I watched Weapons. Oh
- 47:55Speaker 3: really that movie is fucking terrifying. Really Oh no, yeah,
- 48:00Speaker 3: I wanted to watch it.
- 48:01Speaker 4: No, it's so scary. Okay, it's scary and also sad
- 48:04Speaker 4: like I cried.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Oh so I probably can't handle it right, Like.
- 48:09Speaker 4: It's really scary, like I just was not expecting it.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Okay, is it like super natural scary.
- 48:15Speaker 3: Creepy old lady witchy and it's got very scary icky moments.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, I don't know. That might not be
- 48:25Speaker 1: the best for me.
- 48:26Speaker 3: I screamed out loud, and I don't do that a
- 48:28Speaker 3: lot with movies. Like I screamed out loud. Oh I
- 48:32Speaker 3: wasn't like drunk or anything. Well maybe a little, but like, no,
- 48:37Speaker 3: but you're not enough to be crazy. No, you don't
- 48:40Speaker 3: get like I just feel like that is my default
- 48:44Speaker 3: and that is not the case for you. So I
- 48:46Speaker 3: feel like that's very informative.
- 48:48Speaker 1: I'm glad we.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Had this chat. Yeah. Yeah, I've been I've been waiting
- 48:52Speaker 4: to tell you about it.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:54Speaker 4: I am not built for that.
- 48:55Speaker 1: I feel like I'm gonna go ahead and take that.
- 48:57Speaker 4: Off my list.
- 48:59Speaker 3: But it was good, like if you love scary movies like,
- 49:01Speaker 3: it was great.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And I think I'm out.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Have have a creepy as Friday the thirteen.
- 49:10Speaker 4: We'll see you next Thursday.
- 49:13Speaker 1: That's confusing.
- 49:14Speaker 3: I'm sorry, guys, not really thursdays before Friday.
- 49:18Speaker 4: You guys got it.
- 49:23Speaker 2: I'll do an Arnold.
- 49:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:25Speaker 2: I suppose that is taking care of something funny.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Yeah,
