- 0:01It is a typical belief that through the use of logic
- 0:05argument or some kind of pressure, that is exerted
- 0:09through perhaps an enforce Dogma or belief system that opinions
- 0:13and beliefs can be changed. It is true that the power of an
- 0:18idea may capture an individual's focus and support.
- 0:22It is also true that adherence to that idea may last a lifetime
- 0:28The question remains open as to whether a comprehensive change,
- 0:33in the way of seeing an acting penetrating through all levels
- 0:37of the being is even possible through these methods.
- 0:43The deeper movements in our human nature are very much
- 0:46influenced by and patterned after the environment in which
- 0:49we live. This depends in many cases on
- 0:53the influence during the early. Growth stages of childhood
- 0:58modifications, take place as we grow and enter into a sustained
- 1:02environment through our teenage and young adult years.
- 1:06We know from study of dysfunctional families that
- 1:09habits in the ways of dealing with situations tend to
- 1:13perpetuate from one generation to the next.
- 1:17They say that a child who has been abused, will tend to be an
- 1:21abuser in their own right as they grow more.
- 1:24Generally, there is the entire Atmosphere by which the child is
- 1:28surrounded and which sets the tone for whether the child
- 1:33learns how to reflect Develop empathy and a caring attitude or
- 1:39is closed off and emotionally distant intellectually.
- 1:42Disengage were vitally reactive with potentially destructive
- 1:47interactions with others. Some families create an
- 1:51environment of argument and shouting While others rely on
- 1:55quiet counseling and mutual consideration to sort out issues
- 2:01or disagreements. These patterns carry forward
- 2:05into the way people deal with situations throughout their
- 2:08lives in most cases. Scientists point out to us the
- 2:13power that water has to reshape the physical landscape over long
- 2:17periods of time yet. We do not frequently appreciate
- 2:22that the influence of an atmosphere in a particular
- 2:25location a particular family or group or culture has a similar
- 2:31shaping effect on the individuals were immersed in
- 2:35that situation. The mother points out the power
- 2:39of such subtle influence in shaping and preparing the
- 2:42individual for growth and Spiritual Development the
- 2:46individual breathes in the atmosphere and energetic force
- 2:50of the community. This tends to work quietly in
- 2:54the background preparing the ground shaping the individuals
- 2:58mind emotions and vital reactions and guiding and
- 3:03directing his efforts over time. When everything is prepared
- 3:08internally the result then becomes visible on the outside.
- 3:13This experience is very much in evidence at places of spiritual
- 3:17sadhna such as at SRI aurobindo ashram about which the mother
- 3:22speaks the mother writes quote. I believe more in the power of
- 3:27the atmosphere and of example, then of a rigorous teaching I
- 3:32count more on something Awakening in the being through
- 3:35Contagion. Rather than by a methodical
- 3:38disciplined effort. Perhaps.
- 3:40After all, something is being prepared and one day, it will
- 3:45spring up to the surface. That is what I hope.
- 3:48For one day you will tell yourself, just think I've been
- 3:54here so long. I could have learned so much
- 3:57realize so much and I never even thought of it.
- 4:01And then on that day, well, on that day, just imagine you're
- 4:06going to wake up all of a sudden to something you never noticed
- 4:10but which is deep within you and thirsts for the truth, thirst
- 4:15for transformation and is ready to make the effort, required to
- 4:19realize it on that day. You will go very fast.
- 4:23You will advance with giant strides.
- 4:26Perhaps you will suddenly feel an irresistible need not to
- 4:31live. Vin unconsciousness in
- 4:33ignorance, in that state in which you do things without
- 4:36knowing why feel things without understanding.
- 4:40Why have contradictory Wills understand nothing about
- 4:44anything live. Only by habit routine reactions,
- 4:50you take life easy. And one day, you are no longer
- 4:54satisfied with that. It depends for each one.
- 4:59It is different. Most often it is the need to
- 5:02know to understand for some it is the need to do what must be
- 5:07done as it should be done for others.
- 5:10It is a vague feeling that behind this life, so
- 5:14unconscious, so futile. So empty of meaning, there is
- 5:20something to find which is worth being lived.
- 5:24That there is a reality that truth behind behind these
- 5:27falsehoods and illusions. The starting point to want it,
- 5:33truly wanted to need it. The next step to think above all
- 5:40of that a day comes very quickly.
- 5:43When one is unable to think of anything else.
- 5:47That is the one thing which counts and then well one, we'll
- 5:52see what happens. Something will happen, surely
- 5:56something will happen for each one.
- 5:59It will take a different form in quote, reference SRI, aurobindo

- 6:09development. Chapter 2, Awakening of
