- 0:02SPEAKER_00: All right, everybody.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: How are you doing today?
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Hope you're doing well.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Uh looking forward to chatting with you for a minute this morning.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: If you uh if you're sitting somewhere you can, open your Bible to 1 Corinthians chapter 10.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: We're gonna be looking at a few verses there just to give you the heads up.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: What we're talking about lately is this, man.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: I've been messing around with people, counseling, pastoring for 40 years.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: 40 years, man.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: I've been in what I call the guts and glory of people's lives, meaning the pain, the the mistakes, the bad decisions, but also the good ones, the uh the amazing acts of beauty and uh sacrifice and commitment and follow-through.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I'm I you know uh every time I go to say I think I've seen it all, I uh it scares me because God has this weird sense of humor.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And when I tell him or say I've seen it all, it's like he proves me wrong by me seeing something that just I never saw coming.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: But here's the deal, guys.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I really, really, really want you to live an amazing life.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Jesus said the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And to be honest with you, he's pretty good at it.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: But Jesus said, I came.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: What did you know, of all the different ways you could say what Jesus did and why he did it, he said, I came that you might have life and that you might have that life abundantly overflowing.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: What in the world, man?
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: What is I believe you can have an amazing life in every area.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Uh do I think it's automatic?
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Do I think it's easy?
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: But I believe it's dangerous to not want to go there.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Now, what we're talking about lately is this uh comfort, comfort is not your friend.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Comfort's not your friend.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: What do you mean by that?
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I mean this, guys.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Uh the place you want to live, we talked about this last week.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: If if you ask me what's one word that would be the best place, and quite honestly, the the truest description of the place where all of us live, it's one word between.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: We live between, between what, dude?
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: We live between what is, the way things are, what is, and the way they could be.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: We live between the way they are and the way they could be.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: The best example of that in scripture is the children of Israel.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And so that's why I told you to go to 1 Corinthians 10.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna real quickly look at a couple of verses there, handful, and I'm gonna read fast because I want to get to the verses that I'm I want to talk about.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: So in verse, 1 Corinthians 10, verse 1 says this, for I don't want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our fathers were all under the cloud, all passed through the sea.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: All were baptizing the Moses and the cloud in the sea, all ate the same sea.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: I hope you're catching the word all, all, all, all.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: All ate the same spiritual food, all drank the same spiritual drink.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: For they were drinking from a spiritual rock.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: A spiritual rock.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: That's a cool thought, man.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: That's a cool thought, man.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: A spiritual rock which followed them.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Oh Lord.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: And the rock was Christ.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: A rock that moves, man.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: What's up with that?
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: A rock that moves and it follows you.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: How many of you have led that rock into some places it probably didn't want to go?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Well, here's the deal.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Nevertheless, so here's all, all, all, all, all, all.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Here's the deal, guys.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: They all shared the same challenges, they all shared the same pain, give or take.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: They all shared the same opportunities, they all shared the same promises.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: They all shared the same deliverance.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: They just had been delivered from him.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: They all shared so many things.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: They shared so many things.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Verse 5.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Nevertheless, with most of them, most is 51% or more, with most of them, God was not pleased.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Because they died in the land of between.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: They were laid low in the wilderness.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: They died in the land between what is and what could be.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: They they gave up.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: They didn't believe God could get them there.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: They lost faith, they lost hope that the way my life is is the way it's going to be, and Lord, just help me cope, help me hang in there, help me whatever.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: And uh unfortunately, even the church religion has robbed us.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: I would go so far as to say has lied to us.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Well, brother, don't get too excited.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Most of what you that's that the Bible promises won't happen till heaven.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, if I talk like I really talk, here's what I'd say to that.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Shut up, dude.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Just shut up, man.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: How dare you?
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: How dare you take the promises of God that the Bible says all the promises of God are yes and amen.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Are yes and amen.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: All the promises.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, you mean just a handful?
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: No, all of them.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: All of them.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: All of them are yes and amen.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Amen.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: It means, you know what, guys, let's go for it.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Here's the thing.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Last week we talked about this.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: You are, you know, totally unreligious, non-Christian, whatever.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Science, sociology, psychology has researched it.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: And there are states of mind, states of posture, states emotionally, relationally, where we are functioning at our best, at our optimum focus and engagement and et cetera, et cetera.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: And uh one of the common words for that is flow.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Call it whatever you want, but here's the deal, guys.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: What is it that when you talk about it, your your voice changes, you get on your tiptoes, you know, you're talking about the weather, and then it gets on to your favorite subject.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Like for me, I love books, I like movies, I like uh I like ideas.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: I like to argue, to be honest with you.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Um so I get animated.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: I there's something in me that comes alive when we touch on that area that matters to me.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Well, here's the deal, guys.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: God created you in such a way that you're at your best.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: You're another word that the secular research uses is peak performance.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: You're at your peak of performance.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Listen to me now, when you're in the land of between.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: When you're between what you're currently capable of and not quite yet capable of.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: In other words, when you're on the edge of your competence, your your your comfort zone, that's a key word there.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: When you're like, oh, I can do that, I can do that in my sleep.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, I can do that in my sleep.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Well, here's the deal.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: If all you're doing in life is stuff you can do in your sleep, you're probably asleep.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say it again.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: If all you're doing in your life is stuff you can do in your sleep, you're probably asleep.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: And here's the deal, guys.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Sleep's comfortable.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: It's comfortable to, well, you know, I you know, I know God, you know, but it that'll all happen over there, over yonder.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Some of us need to wake up and say, no, God wants it to happen here.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Thy kingdom come, thy will be done.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Where?
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: On earth.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Do you have a yearning?
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Do you have a yearning?
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Isn't that a weird word?
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Do you have a yearning deep in your soul for something that hasn't happened yet?
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Well, let me tell you, one of the biggest enemies between you and that yearning happening is comfort.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Because here's the deal, guys.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: You if you're gonna go from where you are to where you wanna be, ought to be, should be, could be, guess what?
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: You're probably gonna have to learn some skills, practice some skills, experiment with some skills, risk some things that aren't currently comfortable.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: But you know what's over that hill of discomfort?
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Ooh, the promised land, man.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: The promised land.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: What am I trying to say today?
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: There's more.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: There's more, man.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: You know it.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: You know it deep in your soul.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: You know it deep in your heart.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: You know it.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: You feel it.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: There's more for you in your emotional growth and stability.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: There's more for you in your relationships, there's more for you financially, there's more for you in your ability to be used by God to help people.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: There's more.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: I dare you to say it.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: There's more.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: I dare you to carry it in your heart throughout the day today.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: There's more.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: God has more.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: But listen to me.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: What stands between you and more is comfort, is the desire to be comfortable.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Here's the deal, guys.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: You you're not gonna make progress in any year of your life without being uncomfortable.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: It's just not gonna happen.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: No, be comfortable intentionally, strategically, tactically, like with purpose.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Alright?
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: We're gonna keep talking about this.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: We're gonna keep plugging away at it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: I I want you to get I want you to get from Egypt, wilderness, promised land.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: No, you're gonna you're gonna live between for the rest of your life.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Because there's always going to be more.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Isn't that crazy, crazy darless watching?
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I see you, girl.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: I love you guys.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Here's the deal, guys.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: I just want to invoke in you, provoke in you the desire for more and the willingness to be uncomfortable in your pursuit of it.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Alright?
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Love you guys.
