- 0:32Welcome to Authentic Living with Roxanne.
- 0:34I'm Global Voice Radio.
- 0:36Join under heart and our thought provoking conversation, the catalyst to live your life to
- 0:43the fullest.
- 0:54Hi,
- 0:58everyone.
- 0:58It's Rosandra Baja.
- 0:59How are you?
- 1:00Thanks for tuning in again for authentic with for exam.
- 1:05So today, I have a very, very special guest, spot Armstrong.
- 1:09I just met Scott up to a long ago.
- 1:11And, in modern like, you know, how long will that start even a month ago.
- 1:17And, Scott brings, a unique approach to life that I thought would be interesting for most of
- 1:26us because I think a lot of us can relate to this.
- 1:29And, Scott started his career in commercial banking a little ways back 3 years later, he
- 1:36started to, rehab for exotic animals.
- 1:42And that was a dream that he had, and he created it 3 years later.
- 1:46His, lifelong dream came through, which was like, you know, being with Jaguars and, you
- 1:53know, kind of hanging out with wolves.
- 1:55I don't know how many people could say they've done that.
- 1:57And just, playing in the snow with tigers.
- 2:00It sounds, kinda scary, but wow.
- 2:03Fascinating.
- 2:05And what you said in your bios that you wanted to help other people experience the same type
- 2:10of things.
- 2:10And I, I think that's, a fascinating thing because I, I know it within my life, you kind
- 2:15of do what's expected and, sometimes you kind of get veered off.
- 2:20So your present, adventure is to the name of your business is limitless.
- 2:27Yep.
- 2:27Adventures.
- 2:27And what you do is you work with individuals and companies to help them create and grow the
- 2:33space within themselves.
- 2:35So I'm sure I'm not doing your bio justice, but it's, it's very, it's very fascinating what
- 2:41you've done going from, you know, I kind of think of us in Toronto and, you know, to go
- 2:46from Bay streets, that kinda hanging out with these exotic animals, what, what, a big shift.
- 2:50So thanks so much for hanging out with us today.
- 2:53No problem.
- 2:54Thanks for having me.
- 2:55So what's it like in BC?
- 2:57What's it like in BC today or in general?
- 3:00Yes.
- 3:00What's it like today in BC?
- 3:02Well, we're on our 400th day of rain, and tomorrow night, they're calling for a
- 3:07snowmageddon up to two meters of snow.
- 3:09Wow.
- 3:102 meters of snow in 24 hours or 48 hours up in the mountains.
- 3:14So, for hunkering down.
- 3:15Yeah.
- 3:15Wow.
- 3:16Goodness.
- 3:16And we're we're still at minus 10 here, which is, we're trying to kind of keep it all
- 3:21together because in Southern Ontario, we're not so accustomed here.
- 3:24Aggregate to that, but, you know, people are getting out and about.
- 3:28So, Scott, I just I'm fascinated with what you do, like, and the fact that you went from such
- 3:34space and you created the shift in this, this dream within 3 years.
- 3:38So tell me more about, what happened for you and how you kind of started to approach things
- 3:44to to create this dream for yourself?
- 3:47I was, I was at university like many folks, and you get, channeled in by the the, like,
- 3:52academics of the day.
- 3:53The the thought processes of the day went to York University, highly regarded business
- 3:58school there.
- 3:58Went on to Bay Street and soon found out that, when I was interviewing entrepreneurs, I was on
- 4:04the wrong side of the table.
- 4:05I was the entrepreneur, not not the banker.
- 4:07And so, within a short period of time, I I left did some bartending up in Whistler, which is
- 4:13what everybody who's just spent $30,000 on an education should do.
- 4:17And, you know, much to my family and and, Shagrin, and and then the save some money went
- 4:22to Hawaii and said, if I could do anything at all, And at that point, I believed I could, and
- 4:28I still do.
- 4:29I said I've always wanted to work with wildlife, and I came back to your neck of the
- 4:33woods.
- 4:33In Toronto.
- 4:34And, startups are looking for jobs that, would involve me working with wildlife, and there was
- 4:40a grandson of 0 jobs for that.
- 4:42So, started doing a volunteer work.
- 4:45So now I'm paying debt off, you know, $30,000 worth of, of debt.
- 4:50On a volunteer job.
- 4:52And I created one with an endangered animal sanctuary in downtown Toronto for those who are
- 4:57in Toronto think Bayview Avenue And Eglinton Avenue.
- 5:00There was 12 12 exotic cats.
- 5:02There are no wood crescent.
- 5:04And, I did some volunteer fundraising work there and that led me to saying, you know what?
- 5:10I think I can do this.
- 5:12I approached a a accredited zoo in in Ontario, and they became my health care facility, and we
- 5:18started taking in, abandoned exotic pets, zoo surplus animals, circus animals, all those
- 5:25kinds of animals that have no place to go when their original owners don't want.
- 5:29And we raised funds for them, and had a farm up near Peterborough, Ontario, a five acre farm
- 5:36and, did rehab and release work for them.
- 5:39So when you said, you know, playing with a a a Siberian tiger in the snow, Yes.
- 5:44Swimming underwater with a jaguar.
- 5:46Yes.
- 5:46You know, running with a pack of wolves.
- 5:48Yes.
- 5:49It was sort of like, I remember thinking when I twenty eight years old, and I've been doing
- 5:52this for a year or 2.
- 5:54If the lord were to come down and strike me dead now, somehow I was okay with that.
- 5:58And that seems very weird to be recanting that to you today, but I just said life had been so
- 6:04amazing for me that I did not think I deserved anything else.
- 6:07And this was despite the fact that my mortgage was, $1400 and my 1st month revenue with the
- 6:13business was 500.
- 6:14And I had to go back and start, bartending again just to make ends meet.
- 6:19So that instilled in very early, the idea that, you know, dreams and passions don't come easy.
- 6:26We in society are told to, you know, take a lot of the predictable stuff.
- 6:29We become risk averse in some ways.
- 6:32But if you stick with something longer, I remember meeting, Richard Branson at YVR here,
- 6:373 years ago when they launched Virgin Airlines and, I managed to have about 15 seconds with
- 6:42him.
- 6:42I said, listen.
- 6:43I work with entrepreneurs and business owners.
- 6:45One piece of advice.
- 6:45What would you give?
- 6:46And he said, Most people lose it because they don't have sustained focus.
- 6:50Lots of great ideas, but they don't execute on it.
- 6:53And, that just resonated with me.
- 6:57A whole heap because, that's where most people lose it.
- 6:59When the going gets tough, society says you should be making a 100,000, a 150,000.
- 7:05You should have the cars should have the vacations.
- 7:07And when you don't, you hold a society's opinion of you higher often than what you hold
- 7:12for yourself.
- 7:13So, I got to work with, Jane Goodall, with the chimps and gombe.
- 7:17Wow.
- 7:18David Suzuki, Al Oming, with cheetahs up in Edmonton.
- 7:23With wool.
- 7:23So I met all kinds of incredible people.
- 7:25And and when I went to university, my biology, my veterinary skills, how many were, NADA.
- 7:31You know, I was a marketer.
- 7:33So I was one of those ones who broke free from whatever I was originally crafted to be.
- 7:39And have, continued to follow that track, since then.
- 7:42So you've always loved animals, I'm gonna assume.
- 7:44Did you when you were really young, Were you already connected?
- 7:47And, like, I mean, exotic.
- 7:49Like, okay, I'm from Trinidad.
- 7:50So, like, okay, I see exotic birds and stuff up here.
- 7:54I mean, know, you're talking about things from all over the world.
- 7:57Were you all did you always have an affinity to exotic animals, or was it just all animals?
- 8:03It was, all animals.
- 8:04And, you know, as the guy who right where you were when, marine land was invoked back in the
- 8:09eighties, I applied to be one trainers there before we realized that was not the right thing
- 8:13to do.
- 8:14So I always had I would catch garter snakes everywhere I went out remember walking around
- 8:19bare dumps, you know, up in a cottage country and looking for bears as much as my parents'
- 8:23sugar.
- 8:24And I'm lucky to be alive, you know, in a lot of ways for that, but, But the wildlife
- 8:28component, the nature component, yeah, it's always been there.
- 8:31And if I had good grades in university, by the way, I probably would have, you know, the
- 8:35nineties.
- 8:35I would have gone to vet school.
- 8:36I just am not that smart.
- 8:38I wasn't that smart to do that.
- 8:40So, you know, you you brought up a really I like you kinda the path.
- 8:45Like, I, you know, decided, I don't think I can go I my I don't like sciences.
- 8:51I don't like math, so I don't want accounting.
- 8:55I don't think I like drawing, so I don't want to be an engineer.
- 8:59Maybe law, I don't know.
- 9:01So I think I like to talk to people, right?
- 9:03And I moved to God that there would be something, so I decided really early that I
- 9:07wanted to be a talker, which I didn't realize there was a field that you could do that.
- 9:13So somewhere in there, you decided, like you said, when most of us are like entrepreneurs, I
- 9:19know you're an entrepreneur, I am.
- 9:20We step into things where there's so much, I often say the fear is so high, Right?
- 9:25Like, you have the mortgages and you have to send the kids to school and you gotta buy all
- 9:28that stuff, you know, to be able to just be able to stay alive.
- 9:32And you make $500, and then your mortgage is $1400.
- 9:38Something in you had to have re shifted to be able to for you to stay the course, because a
- 9:43lot of people get scared.
- 9:45They do it for, you say, 6 months, you know, they go kinda into the credit line and then
- 9:50they they jump ship.
- 9:51Yeah.
- 9:53So, you know, I'd ask you this.
- 9:54What's the cost of not doing it?
- 9:57What's the cost of having a career for 20 or 30 years where you're living for that final
- 10:01pensionable day, all the things that are lost.
- 10:04And and that's where you have to either go with societal norms a lot of entrepreneurs in your
- 10:11family may be this way too Roxanne is, you know, if you're from an entrepreneurial family,
- 10:14chances are you will pursue that.
- 10:16You'll understand what it takes to make that happen.
- 10:19And we've got one of the guys out here who founded EA Electronic Arts, who on his off time
- 10:25still works with his parents, Chinese food restaurant, delivering food.
- 10:28Guy is a multi multi millionaire.
- 10:31I won't say billionaire because I don't know that for the fact, but, you know, they
- 10:34understand what it takes to make something happen.
- 10:36So the opportunity cost of actually taking a job that you don't wanna go into.
- 10:40I mean, with the animal's wildlife, I was doing shows.
- 10:43I'd get up at 5 in the morning.
- 10:44I'd feed I drive 2 hours to Toronto, Duke 4 hours of shows, get home at 7 at night, and
- 10:50repeat.
- 10:51I loved it.
- 10:52You know, oh, I got paid for it along the way, and I I think if you can find something that
- 10:56you love, people love to follow passion, you know, and and that's how you and I connected.
- 11:02I remember reading your book.
- 11:03I remember listening to your radio show and I said, I would like to somehow work with you in
- 11:06the future.
- 11:07So I think if you put passion out there, you you you attract, in the universe, to avoid.
- 11:13I think you're right.
- 11:14As you're younger, you know, and I know you have kids.
- 11:17I have a son.
- 11:18You look at them, and they're so in positive, and they're, you know, they're natural.
- 11:22And, you know, the things that they come up with, you know, I remember once, my son had
- 11:26some boys, you know, with everybody eight or nine years old.
- 11:29And I was upstairs, and I think I was reading, and I fell asleep.
- 11:31And and I got, a text that says come downstairs now.
- 11:36And when I got to the basement, they had found everything that they could find, and there was
- 11:41levers, and there was ramp, and all this stuff, the Croquet set was set up.
- 11:47And, and I, I, I was sitting there going, and I wrote a piece on it because I thought, you
- 11:52know, to, to channel that.
- 11:54And oftentimes, you're right.
- 11:56As adults, we lose that.
- 11:57Because I looked at them, and I thought, how did you guys come up with this?
- 12:01And they had created this terrain, that they were playing with kind of all night, you know,
- 12:07in the into the evening.
- 12:08And that, that minds is just so special.
- 12:11But as adults, you're right.
- 12:13We kind of, you know, we go to university.
- 12:16We meet the Parker.
- 12:17We have the 2.5 children.
- 12:18We know you the house on the cul de sac where I live now.
- 12:21And you take, you know, 1, maybe one vacation every 5 years and you, you know, you save for
- 12:26retirement.
- 12:27And, you know, you hear, and I can't wait till I retire.
- 12:31That, that seems to be the cycle that people, do over and over again.
- 12:34So with in my business, I try to get people connected with what what's your authenticity
- 12:39about?
- 12:40What is that voice deep down in side that tells you that you're unique.
- 12:44So tell me a little bit more with your, business, which, which sounds really, spicy
- 12:51compared to mine, how do you get people connected?
- 12:54Like, how do you do you use physical?
- 12:56What do you do to help people connect?
- 12:59So there's 2 aspects to the business, and you can direct me which one.
- 13:02I do work with individuals to do that, and I also work with companies and they're they're
- 13:05sort of 2 different skill sets.
- 13:07Appointment of direction and, I'll go down that lane.
- 13:10Let's let's start with individuals because I'm curious to to because I'm gonna assume
- 13:14probably, the people are listening are probably more individuals.
- 13:18So let's start there.
- 13:19Okay.
- 13:20So with an individual, you know, I usually talk.
- 13:23My my person is usually 40 plus their they're, often sort of at a loss.
- 13:29People don't seek any kind of, change or help until they actually feel some significant pain.
- 13:35So that's that's usually where we get to.
- 13:37And I usually meet a lot of our folks when we go on a a snowshoe outing, or we do one of our
- 13:42tough mothers or we do some other crazy event.
- 13:45And you start to see them going, hey.
- 13:47I'm with the group.
- 13:48I haven't done this for 20 years.
- 13:50I'm having a really good time.
- 13:51What's next?
- 13:52So momentum, that's really what the start is.
- 13:56I do believe in the power of the posse and that when we take a look at who we are, we're off on
- 14:01the average of the five we hang around with the most.
- 14:03And we help them change their posse a little bit.
- 14:06They, they get out with folks who aren't necessarily the folks from their, you know,
- 14:09their normal community, their culture, or their work, or anything like that.
- 14:13And, once they get started, often then it's, they're on their own.
- 14:17They they know what they can do.
- 14:19And, they will, you know, often look for new work.
- 14:22They're just realizing that there's all kinds of things that are possible for them.
- 14:26But what we really get into when we're we're talking in it a lot of casual conversation as
- 14:30we're as we're climbing them out.
- 14:31And I think we're going snow showing on Sunday and the snowmageddon kind of thing.
- 14:36It it'll be sort of like, man, I didn't think I can do this.
- 14:39I mean, we had, one guy is 62.
- 14:42We weighed £270, and he trained for a tough mudder.
- 14:45He got down to 2:30, which was a lot of weight off, but he was still a he was a brick.
- 14:50It's just a a brick.
- 14:51And, he came and did the 19 kilometers with and, support each other.
- 14:56We have this this thing that no person gets left behind.
- 14:59And, he, you know, he continued on after that.
- 15:02He's done 4 tough mothers since then.
- 15:03He's down to £180.
- 15:06His work re you know, retired and started his passion business, which happens to be,
- 15:11bicycles.
- 15:11He's always loved cycling.
- 15:12So he's cycling around the world.
- 15:14He's doing tours and all those kinds of things.
- 15:17We have folks who, access their community element, their charity element.
- 15:21They always said they're too busy to to help out.
- 15:23So all of a sudden, what may be the the kernel was started, helping out on the lower east side
- 15:28here in Vancouver, ending at lunches on a Sunday afternoon.
- 15:31And all of a sudden, that makes him feel alive, and that gives the possibility going forward.
- 15:35So it's, sometimes physical.
- 15:38Sometimes it is, you know, what they're thinking is possible in their lives.
- 15:43It's it's intellectual.
- 15:44And then it often goes to career.
- 15:46They're going, you know what?
- 15:47I'm really not happy with what I'm doing.
- 15:49I don't want the steady decline of health over 30 years so that I end up with bad hips and
- 15:55knees and, you know, on a cane by the time I'm seventy.
- 15:58And, you know, then it gets into diet and health.
- 16:00So can I call it a circle and people enter at different points of the circle?
- 16:04Let me go from there.
- 16:05So kind of based on, and I, I, like you said, you read my book when I it took me making
- 16:11massive change based on, significant relationship ending.
- 16:16And that's oftentimes what happens is with people I that I see when I consult with them,
- 16:21if there's a crisis sometimes, and sometimes, and sometimes, times, they need not get to a
- 16:24crisis to be able to make change.
- 16:26It could be, you're right.
- 16:27You know, it may be that they come and they try this tough mother, and they can't believe that
- 16:33it's possible that, like, this man that you're talking about, and that probably changes how he
- 16:38thinks ultimately because now he's so connected to himself and then connected to how he feels.
- 16:43And then now probably thinks, wow, I this is part anything is possible.
- 16:47So is that what you find?
- 16:49Do you find that some people come and they go, well, I know Scott, this is already kinda nice,
- 16:52but I've, you know, I've I've got the I just turned 52, 2 days ago.
- 16:57And you hear people say, well, you know, I'm fifty, so therefore, I should not.
- 17:02I cannot, I need to slow down.
- 17:05You know?
- 17:06Oh, that's verbal cancer.
- 17:09I believe that's verbal cancer for a lot of people.
- 17:11Soon as you speak something into your life, your body, you know, on a very subconscious
- 17:16level, responds to that.
- 17:17And that's not my opinion that sort of science behind that.
- 17:20Whatever you speak, your body has that physiological reaction to that.
- 17:24So very cautious about, you know, what you say in your life I'm fifty 6 now.
- 17:29I'm still playing competitive volleyball with folks who are 25 years younger than I am.
- 17:33It's not that I'm six foot tall.
- 17:34I'm not six foot tall.
- 17:37It's not that I am in great shape.
- 17:38I just tell my my body that that's what I I want to do.
- 17:41So there's a switch.
- 17:42When you're in your twenties, your body leads you.
- 17:44It has so much energy that you often don't know what do with it.
- 17:47You get to, you know, our area of age.
- 17:51And all of a sudden, if you don't take command of your own ship, your body's gonna start
- 17:54shutting itself down.
- 17:55You have to become that stronger captain, to tell your body and your mind what it's gonna
- 18:00do.
- 18:00So, this is the only muscle or the most important muscle that you have here you know,
- 18:05what that self talk is that you have inside your your head and what you're gonna tell your
- 18:09body.
- 18:10You're gonna command from it.
- 18:11I mean, we still have folks, one of our guys is 77 who's still playing you know, competitive
- 18:16volleyball.
- 18:16And, you know, nothing special about him, athletic wise.
- 18:20He wasn't an Olympian or anything like that.
- 18:22He's just decided but that's what he's gonna do.
- 18:25So I think for a lot of us, we just have to decide what we're gonna do.
- 18:27And when you feel sore in the morning when you get up, when you feel tired, Who's gonna win?
- 18:33Who do you let when?
- 18:33Do you push the snooze button?
- 18:35You know, do you ignore physical activity?
- 18:38Because, oh, man, it's physical activity.
- 18:41Well, the opportunity cost of doing that, you know, when you're 70 and 80, and we have, you
- 18:46know, parents who might be a little bit older than that, but we've seen friends who are 60,
- 18:50but acting like they're 80.
- 18:53And you're so right.
- 18:53Right?
- 18:54Because you get that mental when, you know, someone said to me, so are you gonna start not
- 18:58counting birth days.
- 18:59And I said, no.
- 19:00Why would I not count my birthday?
- 19:02I mean, that's a great day.
- 19:04I thank my mom and dad for having me and putting up with me, and then I I enjoy and I
- 19:09celebrate.
- 19:09Like, I mean, I was in Trinidad, so I had a big celebration for my birthday.
- 19:13You know, it's it's the power of I have a friend, and she's a dear friend, and she's a
- 19:17personal trainer, and she's, so she's my person that kind of makes me think that anything is
- 19:21possible, And this is a funny story, but I think I should tell it to you.
- 19:26One day, there was a group of us.
- 19:27It's a group of us that work out, and, she said, we're gonna go for a hike.
- 19:33Now, I should know with this person, and anybody that knows me that has heard this story
- 19:37laughs, said, let's go on a hike.
- 19:41And her, one of the girl's husbands drove us to Beams I don't know.
- 19:46You probably don't need to go bankrupt very well, but it's a Bruce Trail.
- 19:50Mhmm.
- 19:50Amanda was dropping us off and looked at me and says, are you sure you're gonna do this
- 19:55Roxanne?
- 19:55I said, oh, I absolutely I am.
- 19:56Right?
- 19:58We height.
- 20:01From Beevsville, to the Saint Catherine's Brock Tower.
- 20:08I was hallucinating at the end, I think.
- 20:11My body was And then I said, it's interesting.
- 20:14Right?
- 20:14Now I've hiked for 8 a half hours, and I could I didn't I I I said to my friends after they
- 20:19were laughing at me.
- 20:20I said, I know I'm going through all these things.
- 20:22Like, what if I was being chased or what did people go through that had to walk that long or
- 20:27those types of things And then it became a now, I can hide for 8 a half hours up and down the
- 20:31Bruce Trail.
- 20:32So you're so very right when you say those things.
- 20:34And then now you realize possible.
- 20:36I did that 2 years ago when I was fifteen.
- 20:39That's awesome.
- 20:39And what we don't like to do now that we're a little bit older is we don't like to take risk.
- 20:44We want to succeed our ego that's usually in our back pocket because there's fewer things as
- 20:49we get older of people telling us what to do.
- 20:51We don't have the teachers, the parents, the necessarily.
- 20:54And all of a sudden, the chance of failing at something, for a lot of us really damages that
- 20:59image and ego that we have allowed can be constructed around us either by family,
- 21:04friends, and ourselves.
- 21:05So we don't play as much anymore.
- 21:08We don't go, hey.
- 21:09I'll just give it my best shot and whatever happens happens.
- 21:11That's not good enough anymore.
- 21:13We'd have to see success, which also I think is a differentiating factor for a lot of folks who
- 21:18have that very own mindset.
- 21:19And, I mean, with your business, are you enjoying the journey?
- 21:23Well, yes, I am.
- 21:24I it's it's taken me everywhere.
- 21:25Like, I mean, I think of when I met you, what, 6 weeks ago or so, like, I had gone, like, from
- 21:32New York City to Ottawa, and then I came back home, and then I went to Trinidad.
- 21:36And now I'm planning my year, and it's, you know, it's it's it's the it's like a like, a
- 21:42gift every time I open.
- 21:43Yes.
- 21:44I'm like you.
- 21:45I'm like, oh, goodness.
- 21:46What am I doing?
- 21:47But then I think, why not?
- 21:49Right?
- 21:49Like, I mean, at this point now where I'm recognizing that anything that I'm gonna
- 21:53create, some of it will fail.
- 21:56That's, that's normal.
- 21:57But did I have I learned from certain things, but am I excited about 2018 or in the next
- 22:03absolutely.
- 22:03Because I, I can't believe what's happened in a short period of time based on me being really
- 22:08true to, who I was.
- 22:10So, like, you, I got a severance package and shifted my life 7 years ago and wrote a book
- 22:16and then started to speak and started to consult, and I never looked back.
- 22:20And every time I kind of thought I was gonna go back, the corporates kind of shifted, and it
- 22:25kept saying, You're not going there.
- 22:26No.
- 22:27You're not going there.
- 22:28And then I I went back to my passion, which was to speak and to train.
- 22:33And, you know, consult with, different people.
- 22:36So I, I get what you're saying when, when, you know, following it, even though scary because
- 22:42it has been scary, and I'm on my own also.
- 22:44So you're kind of thinking it's, you know, you don't have the backup for someone else.
- 22:48But guess what?
- 22:49You know, it's, it's been, it's been, quite the ride.
- 22:51Now you said that people come to you in different ways.
- 22:54Right?
- 22:54They might come to you So tell us a little bit more about how let's I'm sure people are
- 23:00listening who are fit in our 50 group that are maybe having this dilemmas will probably want
- 23:06to know what they might experience and what ways they could connect with you to, to
- 23:10potentially work with you.
- 23:11So tell, tell me and tell the others what, you know, what, you know, how they could do that.
- 23:19Fair enough.
- 23:20Two things if I can just before that is, I think an important thing is how do you define
- 23:24failure?
- 23:25You mentioned this, and this is right at the kernel of what I do.
- 23:28Failure for me is not to fail.
- 23:31If I'm not pushing myself enough where I I stumble and have to grow and have a a
- 23:36challenging experience.
- 23:37Then I'm living inside this this bubble, and I didn't sign up for my life.
- 23:42And I don't know anybody who did say, hey.
- 23:44Listen.
- 23:45I'm gonna strive for a mediocre life.
- 23:47Man, I can't wait to get that mediocrity.
- 23:49Boy, that sounds really good to me.
- 23:51And and yet that's what most of us get when we start to say all I want is I don't want to fail
- 23:58anymore.
- 23:58I don't want to to stretch my boundaries.
- 24:00So, you know, when you say you stumbled and you failed along your entrepreneurship, you know, I
- 24:04would say, no.
- 24:06You actually grew.
- 24:07You say exceeded because you are more than you were before you had that failure.
- 24:10And and that may sound, very, minutiae oriented.
- 24:15But that is the kernel of the psychology behind that.
- 24:18If you're willing to try new things and and and and sort of see where they go and evolve from
- 24:23there, then, you know, life opens up to you.
- 24:25If you're gonna stay in that that one bubble that you always know everything, it's
- 24:29predictable, boy, where does new stuff get in?
- 24:31And isn't that the definition of insanity?
- 24:33You know, if you do the same of step over and over again and expect a different result.
- 24:37So somewhere, you gotta get in there.
- 24:39To your question on, you know, you know, people getting into you wanted people how they can get
- 24:43in touch with me?
- 24:44Yeah.
- 24:45Like, how could they, yeah, what, do they go to your website?
- 24:50Do you do a consultation?
- 24:51What do you do?
- 24:52Or do you go for a run with them?
- 24:53I'm not sure what you do, Scott, but tough because I'm curious.
- 24:56Obviously, I'm such a good self promoter.
- 24:58Most of my my business is is working with companies in the same kind of similar mindset.
- 25:03I do have some clients who are you know, who who I work with both personally, and then they
- 25:07take that stuff to their to their business.
- 25:09But they certainly, you know, can visit my website.
- 25:11You can tell I love to promote myself much because I'm just dodging around the question.
- 25:15I am I'm such an authentic, I, you know, sort of a but, yeah, my website is,
- 25:20scottarmstronglimitless.com.
- 25:22And And what we do is we have a phone chat.
- 25:24And just to find out what's going on, I was talking, 2 of my clients, one of this is a CFL.
- 25:30I I create an academy for the players as they retired.
- 25:32I was talking to a guy yesterday who just got cut by one of the teams, and the CFO.
- 25:37He's not coming back.
- 25:38And he's bonded with a guy from the NFL who is playing and they're starting their own company.
- 25:42So we've been able to help them move into that next thing that's really exciting for them.
- 25:46And, And on Tuesday, I'm over at the military base in the squamalt VC doing the same thing
- 25:52for veterans as they're as they're retiring.
- 25:54So generally speaking, with a conversation and Whether it's a a career education and
- 26:00internship, entrepreneurship, you know, we talk about that, but we usually get down to to the
- 26:05topic of habitudes, which is just, you know, what is your attitude towards what success
- 26:10looks like in your life and and what habits do you have right now that are really helping you?
- 26:15And do you have some habits now that if we just did a couple of degree twists, you know, or
- 26:19turns, could we could we open up some new opportunities that might really excite you?
- 26:23And so,
- 26:24you go into companies too and do it individually or as groups.
- 26:28Is that Yeah.
- 26:29So it could be with a board of directors, you know, where we we talk about strategic
- 26:34planning.
- 26:34And, sometimes you can have boards that are progressive and others that are mired in day to
- 26:38day operations, which they shouldn't be as a board.
- 26:41And other times, it's a a C suite member, you know, often, you know, an interesting one was a
- 26:48client in Chicago just the other day.
- 26:50Called me up and said, listen, we're about to lose a $600,000 account because we can't close
- 26:54the deal.
- 26:54And I asked them what they had done so far to to move that deal forward.
- 26:58And, I said, so Have you talked to them?
- 27:07They were this 30 something thing where everything's done by text and stuff like that.
- 27:11And and, you know, boy, that wasn't a lot of brainpower, but sometimes a fresh bright light,
- 27:16you know, can provide some different strategies to help bring it across the line.
- 27:20And and, yeah, we brought it across the line for them.
- 27:22So, sometimes it's just a a different clarity in your ear that's whispering different things.
- 27:28Well, thank you so much.
- 27:29This has been fantastic.
- 27:31And This is authenticity is so key, right, because you can like you're saying, you know, I
- 27:38don't know if you've had that experience with some people, but they complain, and they
- 27:41complain, and they know what they need to do, but they're just scared.
- 27:45So hopefully, by some of the things you've shared today, people will realize, you know,
- 27:49whether it's, you know, like you said, changing your posse.
- 27:53I listen to your podcast.
- 27:54Changing your posse, making that shift, going to that meeting where there's nobody that you
- 28:00know like you said, going to a meetup, you know, going to, you know, a trail where's a
- 28:06meeting up with, with, people, different people.
- 28:08Sometimes you never know when you're gonna get that, that opening that creates a space in you
- 28:13to start to listen to really, you know, what, what you should be doing.
- 28:16Yeah.
- 28:17So thanks so much.
- 28:18And, again, and it's tell them the website again.
- 28:23I know I have to prod you a bit.
- 28:24That's okay.
- 28:26Scott Armstrong and that's Scott with 2 t's.
- 28:28Scott Armstrong.
- 28:29List.com.
- 28:31And, you know, with the power of the posse, just to to leave a final piece.
- 28:35When you're talking to people, if you see them talking about the progressive things, even if
- 28:41they're the ones you always come up with the problems in life, and that's where they ended,
- 28:44there's a positive thought for you.
- 28:46So thank you very much for our for having a long standing.
- 28:49Well, thank you.
- 28:50And so to my viewers, absolutely.
- 28:53I hope, if you're at at this space or even if you want a company, that's looking for connect
- 28:58with Scott.
- 28:59You know, I talk about electricity all the time about slowing down this thing, but sometimes
- 29:05listening without action, but talked about doesn't give you what what you're needing to
- 29:10get to.
