- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 39! Can you believe it? Lucas: Right? We're on a roll. Luna, did you practice the weather words from last time? Luna: I did! 'Hari ini panas' – today is hot. It's been so hot lately. Lucas: Exactly. That's perfect. So today, let's stay indoors and learn about rooms in a house. Luna: Oh, I like that. Like kitchen, bedroom... Lucas: Yeah! Kitchen in Malay is 'dapur'. Say it with me: dapur. Luna: Dapur. Lucas: Good. A little slower: da-pur. Luna: Da-pur. Dapur. That sounds like 'dapper' but with a u. Lucas: Yeah, kind of. So if you want to ask 'Where is the kitchen?' you say 'Di mana dapur?' Luna: Di mana dapur? Lucas: Yes! 'Di mana' means 'where is'. So, 'Di mana dapur?' Luna: Okay, I think I got it. Di mana dapur? Lucas: Perfect. Now, bedroom is 'bilik tidur'. 'Bilik' means room, 'tidur' means sleep. So sleeping room. Luna: Bilik tidur. That's cute. Lucas: Try saying it: bilik tidur. Luna: Bilik tidur. Lucas: Great. And bathroom is 'bilik air'. 'Air' means water. So water room. Luna: Bilik air. That makes sense. Lucas: Let's practice those three: dapur, bilik tidur, bilik air. Luna: Dapur, bilik tidur, bilik air. Lucas: Awesome! Now let's put them in a sentence. If you want to say 'I am in the bedroom', you say 'Saya di bilik tidur.' Luna: Saya di bilik tidur. Lucas: Exactly. 'Saya' is I, 'di' is in, 'bilik tidur' is bedroom. So, 'Saya di bilik tidur.' Luna: Okay, what about 'I am in the kitchen'? Lucas: That would be 'Saya di dapur.' Try it. Luna: Saya di dapur. Lucas: You got it. And 'I am in the bathroom'? Luna: Saya di bilik air. Lucas: Yes! So, let's imagine a little scene. Let's say you're at a friend's house and you need the bathroom. What do you ask? Luna: Umm... 'Di mana bilik air?' Lucas: Exactly! That's the perfect question. 'Di mana bilik air?' Luna: Di mana bilik air? Cool. I can use that. Lucas: Or if you're looking for the kitchen, you'd ask 'Di mana dapur?' Luna: Di mana dapur? Right. Lucas: Now let's do a quick practice. I'll ask you a question, and you answer. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: Di mana bilik tidur? Luna: Um, 'Saya di bilik tidur'? No wait, that would be if I'm in it. I should just say 'Di sini'? But we haven't learned that. Lucas: You're right, you can just point and say 'Di sini', but let's keep it simple. I was just testing the question. Good thinking though. Luna: Okay, I'll stick with 'Di mana dapur?' for now. Lucas: That works. So let's recap today's phrases. Repeat after me: dapur. Luna: Dapur. Lucas: bilik tidur. Luna: Bilik tidur. Lucas: bilik air. Luna: Bilik air. Lucas: Di mana dapur? Luna: Di mana dapur? Lucas: Saya di bilik tidur. Luna: Saya di bilik tidur. Lucas: Perfect! Now you can navigate a house in Malay. Luna: Yeah, no more getting lost. Thanks, Lucas! And thanks to Fexingo for this fun lesson. Lucas: Absolutely. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time for more Malay with Fexingo. Luna: Selamat tinggal! Lucas: Selamat tinggal, everyone!
