- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Coming up here In NHL Unscripted, JD wants to clarify
- 0:23Speaker 1: some of the details of his dad's trips lash Carrie
- 0:26Speaker 1: Underwood story last week in danger of going viral.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Just gonna, you know, clean it up.
- 0:29Speaker 1: A little bit, plus talk about Kyle Paul Mary I
- 0:32Speaker 1: set of filing sixty on the new film coming out
- 0:34Speaker 1: in Netflix this Friday.
- 0:35Speaker 3: It's called j Kelly.
- 0:36Speaker 1: It starts George Clean and Adam Sander one of the
- 0:38Speaker 1: best films of the year, plus Lightning Strikes before we
- 0:40Speaker 1: kick things off. Though, finally television history made Verkin Demr's
- 0:44Speaker 1: on NHL Network, and you took full credit rightfully. So
- 0:47Speaker 1: during the post community with the Anthony Declare of the
- 0:49Speaker 1: New York Islanders, you texted him you're gonna go one
- 0:52Speaker 1: and one and he got the one, A big goal
- 0:53Speaker 1: for Anthony Declaire.
- 0:55Speaker 3: As you said, you can't keep.
- 0:56Speaker 2: The duke down. Good stuff. No the duke, don't let
- 0:59Speaker 2: him get hot. Don't let the duke get hot. I
- 1:02Speaker 2: don't know why I texted him, but it was it
- 1:05Speaker 2: was the other day and I saw something on him
- 1:07Speaker 2: and it was like night before the game and I
- 1:09Speaker 2: just reached out, you know, I I try to reach
- 1:11Speaker 2: out to guys, you know, just to say, hey, what's up,
- 1:14Speaker 2: hope you're doing well, and it just said I expect
- 1:17Speaker 2: a one on one tonight, big one for you. And
- 1:20Speaker 2: he was like, all right, I got it. He's like,
- 1:21Speaker 2: I got you. So he scored and it was pretty
- 1:23Speaker 2: It's pretty fun when you have those things, and it's crazy, man,
- 1:26Speaker 2: and sports like, sometimes you're in a slump and it's
- 1:30Speaker 2: not going well and all you need is just somebody
- 1:32Speaker 2: to kind of like reach out and text and say, hey,
- 1:34Speaker 2: you're gonna get one tonight, like you're gonna do it,
- 1:36Speaker 2: don't worry about it. And you know, probably sometimes doesn't happen,
- 1:40Speaker 2: but when it does, it's a good feeling and sometimes
- 1:42Speaker 2: just relaxes you to kind of get that vote of confidence.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Because he's a good player and you know, I think
- 1:48Speaker 2: he's he's very streaky at times, but you know, I
- 1:52Speaker 2: think he had some ups and downs with Patrick Watt
- 1:56Speaker 2: last year, and I think this year, you know, they
- 1:58Speaker 2: have a team that has that have higher aspirations than
- 2:01Speaker 2: they've had in the past. You know, with I think
- 2:03Speaker 2: a lot of you know, they're an upstart team. But
- 2:06Speaker 2: you get Matthew Schaeffer, you got that Shabbah off that's
- 2:09Speaker 2: playing very well right now. You got a mill Hineman
- 2:12Speaker 2: that comes in so you sometimes fall by the wayside.
- 2:15Speaker 2: But good for him getting that goal, you know, especially
- 2:17Speaker 2: after Kyle Palmery got injured, that devastating injury. But it's
- 2:22Speaker 2: a scrappy team.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Man.
- 2:23Speaker 2: The East is fucking wild right now, Like it's who
- 2:27Speaker 2: knows what's going to happen, you know. In the metro
- 2:30Speaker 2: it's it's on four points separating first and I think,
- 2:35Speaker 2: like sixth, I gotta really look at that. I'm gonna
- 2:38Speaker 2: look at that while I talk to him while you
- 2:40Speaker 2: set up the next question.
- 2:43Speaker 5: First and six and then I do that too much
- 2:46Speaker 5: now and I don't like it squinting. I was it
- 2:51Speaker 5: five points between first and last in the metro, so
- 2:55Speaker 5: I was, I was, hey in the ballpark, I said
- 2:59Speaker 5: four as four as five. I tell you what, My
- 3:03Speaker 5: my assumed guesses are close.
- 3:07Speaker 2: They're most of the time wrong, but they're close.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I mean, if you say I think it's something like
- 3:11Speaker 1: you know, it's a way of hedging it saying I
- 3:12Speaker 1: think it's around there, and then it's close, so then
- 3:14Speaker 1: you're five.
- 3:15Speaker 3: It's a guy. I think he's a plan of game player.
- 3:16Speaker 3: And the guy is that's fine.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Wait I was. I was looking at headlines while you're
- 3:20Speaker 2: doing our intro. We had tal this fucking guy last night.
- 3:24Speaker 2: He references Napoleon Bonaparte comparing dal lost his headphones, folks,
- 3:34Speaker 2: he lost his headphones laughing there middle of the show,
- 3:38Speaker 2: he goes, I don't even know what it was. You
- 3:40Speaker 2: will remember, you have a better recollection. He says, this
- 3:42Speaker 2: Napoleon Bonaparte comparison.
- 3:45Speaker 3: On this day in history.
- 3:46Speaker 1: In eighteen oh four, Napoleon Bonaparte declared himself the Emperor
- 3:49Speaker 1: of France, and I said, meantime, Nathan McKinnon has now
- 3:53Speaker 1: fourteen multi point outings and twelve games is zero one points.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So today we can say Nathan McKinnon is Napoleonic.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And there's a pause and then we go off fair
- 4:04Speaker 2: after it, Ken Daniko goes, I don't know where you're
- 4:08Speaker 2: going with that one, because you lost this there for
- 4:11Speaker 2: a second. That's what you fucking did. French Revolution. Oh
- 4:15Speaker 2: that was great anyway, I digress.
- 4:18Speaker 1: We had a blast though, Daniel, Greg guy if you're
- 4:19Speaker 1: gonna hang up for three hours. Not much better than
- 4:21Speaker 1: hanging out with JD and Daniell just watching some hockey.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And to your point, JD, right now in the East,
- 4:25Speaker 1: twelve teams separated by six points. But how about Tampa
- 4:28Speaker 1: Bay if there's one team that started to take over
- 4:30Speaker 1: right now?
- 4:30Speaker 2: The Atlantic?
- 4:31Speaker 1: They had won seven or zero for losing the Islanders
- 4:33Speaker 1: last night two to one, but sixteen eight and two record,
- 4:36Speaker 1: And as you said last night on NHL Network, they've
- 4:38Speaker 1: done it without some key pieces here Victor Hedman, Braden Point,
- 4:42Speaker 1: Ryan McDonough, Hagel eight goals in his five game goal
- 4:45Speaker 1: streak that finally ended against the Isles, Kouchroff eighteen points
- 4:48Speaker 1: on the recent nine game point streak. You've spoken a
- 4:50Speaker 1: lot abou how much you love Kouchirov. Do you think
- 4:52Speaker 1: it's now Tampa's division to win? We have big Leafs
- 4:54Speaker 1: Panthers game last night Leafs won. But do you think
- 4:57Speaker 1: the Lightning and now the team to beat in the Atlantic.
- 5:00Speaker 2: One hundred percent? It's it's crazy knowing and potentially in
- 5:04Speaker 2: the East. I think that the team to beat in
- 5:05Speaker 2: the East, and without missing three of their top four
- 5:10Speaker 2: defenseman missing braid point now, you know, and they're just
- 5:14Speaker 2: doing it in different ways. I mean, they're doing it
- 5:16Speaker 2: defensively as well. The structure has really improved from the
- 5:20Speaker 2: start of the season. I mean, and it's you say structure.
- 5:23Speaker 2: The structure is Vasilevsky, Like Vassilevski's back to his old form.
- 5:26Speaker 2: But you know, they got the best penalty kill in
- 5:28Speaker 2: the NHL right now. And you know, defensively they've done
- 5:31Speaker 2: a lot better than I think people have give them
- 5:34Speaker 2: credit for. And to do that with kind of an
- 5:37Speaker 2: upstart decor and I've set upstart twice. Now, that's that's
- 5:40Speaker 2: so annoying. Get it, God, damn thesaurus Jason. This this
- 5:45Speaker 2: young decor of Charles Destouse and you got Declan Carlisle
- 5:51Speaker 2: and Steven Santini, who's not really a young puppy's been
- 5:54Speaker 2: around for a while, just been a you know, an
- 5:56Speaker 2: HL defenseman that's playing some great hockey. So you know,
- 6:01Speaker 2: credit to John Cooper. This guy just does it in
- 6:04Speaker 2: a year out. I don't think he's one of Jack Adams,
- 6:07Speaker 2: and I think he's just one of the best coaches
- 6:10Speaker 2: in the NHL at just pushing all the right buttons.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So this team is defensively very good. And then up front,
- 6:17Speaker 2: I mean Brandon Hagel, who I thought was leave him
- 6:20Speaker 2: off the Team Canada list. Now I'm like, put him
- 6:24Speaker 2: back on the Team Canada list. Like the Team Canada rosters.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I don't know who's gonna I don't know who's gonna
- 6:31Speaker 2: go where.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be very He goes Canadia should
- 6:33Speaker 1: have two teams.
- 6:34Speaker 3: There should be a kid.
- 6:37Speaker 2: This is what I'm working with. Last night, he goes,
- 6:39Speaker 2: us say and Canada should both get two teams. I
- 6:43Speaker 2: think that is how it works at the Olympics.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Finland beats USA two three two.
- 6:50Speaker 2: But no, the other thing I was, you know, Nick
- 6:53Speaker 2: Paul is not mentioned enough for Tampa Bay. He's a
- 6:57Speaker 2: big stabilizer down the middle. You know, since he's been back,
- 6:59Speaker 2: I think there's six and one and first loss they
- 7:02Speaker 2: had with him in the lineup was last night. But
- 7:06Speaker 2: he's just stabilizes. He provides such a calming factor. Big body,
- 7:11Speaker 2: can play penalty kill you go to that top penalty
- 7:13Speaker 2: kill in the NHL, but he can provide some offense.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And he's kind of a lanky, gangly, big draft that
- 7:19Speaker 2: moves around the ice and It's not overly physical, but
- 7:22Speaker 2: he just good stick, plays well, he's in the right position,
- 7:25Speaker 2: and yeah, this is the team to beat in the
- 7:28Speaker 2: East right now.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Meantime, the Buffalo Sabers got great news as Josh Norris
- 7:33Speaker 1: is back, and I remember he was probably that blockbuster
- 7:34Speaker 1: trade with Dylan Cutsons.
- 7:35Speaker 3: The problem for Norris Quay simply has been health.
- 7:37Speaker 1: He just hasn't played much four games going into that game,
- 7:40Speaker 1: but played great. Score twice, add and assist the Sabers
- 7:43Speaker 1: all over the Winnipeg Jets five to one. Buffalo has
- 7:46Speaker 1: been at or near the bottom of the Atlantic. But
- 7:48Speaker 1: as you said, it's so tight right now, you go
- 7:49Speaker 1: to three game win streak. All of a sudden, the
- 7:51Speaker 1: Sabers are potentially a playoff team. They have not made
- 7:53Speaker 1: the playoffs since twenty eleven. I just got back from
- 7:56Speaker 1: being there at that game talking to Lindy Rough, who
- 7:58Speaker 1: incredibly has kept a home in Buffalo since nineteen seventy nine.
- 8:02Speaker 1: He also has a place in Montana, but remarkable Lindy
- 8:05Speaker 1: Ruff has at the same house in Buffalo for thirty
- 8:07Speaker 1: five years. He's the coach for a second go around.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Of course, the legend is a player there it's interesting, JD.
- 8:12Speaker 1: They've got players, especially look at their defense dollyan byrom
- 8:16Speaker 1: Owen Power. I know who's the number one pick from
- 8:17Speaker 1: a week class, But I love Mattia Samuelson, son of
- 8:20Speaker 1: Shell Samuelson, the Great six six Flyers defense was speaking
- 8:23Speaker 1: of Tall and Ragye and Gangly. I know it's a
- 8:26Speaker 1: little crazy, but the Sabers at least have some optimism
- 8:29Speaker 1: if they can get things going and if Norris's health
- 8:31Speaker 1: is there with the great Tage Thompson.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of unpack there. You just kind of
- 8:36Speaker 2: mentioned everybody in the team, so I got to kind
- 8:38Speaker 2: of go through the list here.
- 8:39Speaker 1: How about the three goalie system Uka Peca, lukenan uh Uka,
- 8:43Speaker 1: Who who's caught at the bar the buffalo.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Trying to get a little piece of strange and and
- 8:52Speaker 2: Buffalo's fine as maybe maybe he's with his wife. I
- 8:55Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know if he's married. So don't
- 8:56Speaker 2: quote me on that, folks, keep me out of your dms.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Uh No. I mean, Mitia Samuelson, really nice story. You know,
- 9:04Speaker 2: I think we're all wondering when he's you know, they
- 9:07Speaker 2: paid him all that money, and I think everybody, myself
- 9:10Speaker 2: included was like why they pay him that money. I
- 9:13Speaker 2: don't understand. I haven't seen him play a you know,
- 9:15Speaker 2: a healthy season or even have enough vision and and
- 9:20Speaker 2: and I didn't. I haven't. I don't have enough tape
- 9:22Speaker 2: on him to kind of judge him. But he's a
- 9:24Speaker 2: It's a good player, really good defensive player that has
- 9:27Speaker 2: been their best defenseman. I think night in and night
- 9:30Speaker 2: out as a whole for this season, so better than
- 9:32Speaker 2: Rasmostalling and those guys. Their decor. I like it, but
- 9:35Speaker 2: I think they have too many of the same player.
- 9:37Speaker 2: You know, you got Owen Power boone by him and
- 9:39Speaker 2: Ras Mastalling. It's the same player kind of wrapped in
- 9:42Speaker 2: a different package. I think one of them should get moved.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Owen Power right now is kind of not played great.
- 9:48Speaker 2: He struggled a bit out of that group. He's the outlier,
- 9:50Speaker 2: So I think I would look to move him to
- 9:53Speaker 2: maybe increase because they have all the they have all
- 9:55Speaker 2: the talent in the world. They have all the talent.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Do I think Lindy Rough's the man to, you know,
- 10:00Speaker 2: take them to the promised Land?
- 10:02Speaker 3: Uh?
- 10:02Speaker 2: Probably not pumping.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Over Ralph Krueger, Phil Halsey.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he's there. Yeah, you know nothing, Phil Housley, no,
- 10:11Speaker 2: and Ralph Krueger, I think the nice guy. But but yeah, Lindy,
- 10:15Speaker 2: I had Lindy and Dallas, you know, and I think
- 10:19Speaker 2: his systems are good. It's decent. Listen, they're they have
- 10:22Speaker 2: a really good team. I'd like to see them have
- 10:24Speaker 2: more structure, but I think that's a coaching thing. So
- 10:27Speaker 2: but again, it's a tough job. Coaches, tough job. Lindy's
- 10:30Speaker 2: there whatever. But going to Josh Norris, I mean, if
- 10:34Speaker 2: this guy could stay healthy, hasn't played over sixty six
- 10:36Speaker 2: games in his career. If this guy can stay healthy,
- 10:40Speaker 2: he's a premier goalscorer, set up guy in the NHL.
- 10:44Speaker 2: It's just it's sad because when you get caught in
- 10:48Speaker 2: that cycle of going under the knife and having surgery
- 10:50Speaker 2: and these injuries, it's hard to kind of you become
- 10:53Speaker 2: a compromised athlete. Trainer once told me. And then you're
- 10:56Speaker 2: always compensating, you know, trying to you know, get healthy
- 11:01Speaker 2: and and make sure that you know your shoulders kind
- 11:04Speaker 2: of a bum shoulder, so you got to overcompensate with
- 11:07Speaker 2: your other shoulder. Then things can happen and your body's
- 11:10Speaker 2: just not used to constantly compensating. So but what that
- 11:13Speaker 2: game against Winnipeg and he didn't even break a sweat
- 11:17Speaker 2: after not playing all season, and just looked so dynamic
- 11:24Speaker 2: and so silky, silky middies, The Silky Life of Walter Midty,
- 11:30Speaker 2: and that was one of my favorite movies. And that
- 11:32Speaker 2: was Josh Norris last night. But yeah, Buffalo, it was more.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I don't know if it was more like I was surprised,
- 11:38Speaker 2: and I think we all know what Buffalo has. I
- 11:41Speaker 2: think the surprising thing is I'm worried about the Winnipeg Jets.
- 11:46Speaker 1: And they've got one line in one defenseman Schifley, Connor, Vallardi, Morrissey.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Have it counted for sixty percent of their offense in
- 11:53Speaker 1: the last five games, Like there is a complete absence
- 11:55Speaker 1: of secondary scoring. Eergo gd We kept talking about the
- 11:57Speaker 1: third line, how great there were, Mason Appleton's gone. Now
- 12:00Speaker 1: it's literally you're lying it's a very top heavy team
- 12:03Speaker 1: right now.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we're listening to the broadcast which I was
- 12:06Speaker 2: listening to you guys on Amazon, and uh when Andy
- 12:10Speaker 2: Patrillo called Josh Norris, Adnan, you're in the interview, which
- 12:14Speaker 2: was hilarious.
- 12:14Speaker 3: I don't know if that's Achary.
- 12:15Speaker 1: You texted me that I thought she finished it, and
- 12:18Speaker 1: then goes admin like, you know when you finished the
- 12:19Speaker 1: interview that tossed it?
- 12:20Speaker 3: Did you?
- 12:21Speaker 2: I don't know. I felt like maybe maybe, I don't know.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I'm just looking. I've just butt hurt that I'm not
- 12:27Speaker 2: at the Amazon. Monday night came just a bitter Betty.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Well, listen. I did tell Tate Thompson.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I saw him after morning skate when the locker might go, hey, man,
- 12:34Speaker 1: you did a great job with Jason Demurs, and uh,
- 12:36Speaker 1: who the hell you're with that day? I think it
- 12:38Speaker 1: was Kevin Weeks on NHL Network. He's like, oh, thanks, man,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I said, yeah, that's unbelievable.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Your wife had cancer. He said yeah. I said where
- 12:43Speaker 3: was the cancer discovery? It was in her knee because
- 12:45Speaker 3: she was a dancer.
- 12:46Speaker 1: He goes says, that's where she would just always get
- 12:47Speaker 1: check ups, and he was just a random checkup. How
- 12:49Speaker 1: old is she goes, twenty one years old, Jesus twenty
- 12:52Speaker 1: one diagnosed to cancers.
- 12:53Speaker 3: But dude, it was a one time thing. They've identified it.
- 12:56Speaker 3: She got it done, she said, check ups. You know,
- 12:57Speaker 3: it was every few months after that and now she's
- 12:59Speaker 3: been cleaning for like four years.
- 13:00Speaker 1: So he's a helple player, help a story. And I
- 13:02Speaker 1: told him a great job with the monsters.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Ain't get up. He's like, oh you like that?
- 13:05Speaker 2: It was great. JD dropped little Randal on him. They went, DALLASKI, Okay,
- 13:10Speaker 2: I've got cancer in the knee. That's that's crazy. Yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 2: it's it's nunts. But hey, listen, going back to Buffalo there,
- 13:18Speaker 2: they're a team that we constantly expected to do something
- 13:22Speaker 2: with all that talent, and hopefully they can. But again
- 13:27Speaker 2: I'm I'm reserving my expectations. But when they're healthy and
- 13:30Speaker 2: they're playing the right way, they're tough to beat. They
- 13:32Speaker 2: looked fast, man, they looked very very fast, and Winnipeg
- 13:35Speaker 2: looked like shit.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Well that one of the thought here on the Jets.
- 13:38Speaker 1: They didn't have a players only meeting after the lost
- 13:40Speaker 1: Monday night. Could you imagine President's Trophy winner to missing
- 13:43Speaker 1: the playoffs?
- 13:45Speaker 2: Well, the biggest thing that I noticed, and and maybe
- 13:50Speaker 2: this was on me being a and both of us
- 13:53Speaker 2: actually being Connor Hellibuck haters a little bit, I mean,
- 13:57Speaker 2: expose he's not in there Jesus to see cover for
- 14:02Speaker 2: them because they're maybe their defensive structure isn't as good
- 14:06Speaker 2: as we all thought. So and Connor hellbook is that
- 14:08Speaker 2: important to them. So yeah, we'll see. Time will tell.
- 14:12Speaker 2: But it's getting laid early for him and they need
- 14:14Speaker 2: to kind of they need to get him healthier. They
- 14:16Speaker 2: need to figure something out in net.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yeah, at least three and a half more weeks till
- 14:20Speaker 3: Hellibuck's back. You're like, oh, just hold the four. He
- 14:21Speaker 3: comes back. But if you're drowning, good luck holding that four.
- 14:24Speaker 2: By the way. Sport's burning. It feels like braveheart right
- 14:27Speaker 2: now and the scot is shot coming.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Hold hold by the way.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Jared Spurgeon is their special guest today of the Minnesota
- 14:36Speaker 1: while he's had a great season.
- 14:37Speaker 3: I really want to talk to him about.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Yesper Volstad, who's now in the Calder conversation, he's the
- 14:41Speaker 1: wall of Saint Paul has.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Been absolutely incredible.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Wolstead.
- 14:45Speaker 3: So yeah, you were calling Schwolfstead last night. Knew nickname
- 14:47Speaker 3: for him.
- 14:48Speaker 1: One of the topic want to mentioned. But think of
- 14:50Speaker 1: the Keller family and I know obviously you know Clayton. Well,
- 14:53Speaker 1: this is a guy who's named the game's first star
- 14:54Speaker 1: after the stars topped the man with four to three.
- 14:56Speaker 3: That was Friday night.
- 14:57Speaker 1: This came after his dad, Brian died unexpectedly on Thursday.
- 15:01Speaker 1: The next night in his hometown of Saint Louis, the
- 15:03Speaker 1: Blues observed a moment the silence for Brian Keller, very
- 15:06Speaker 1: emotional life the Utah Cap, and he decided to play
- 15:08Speaker 1: despite experiences such a huge loss. An amazing show support
- 15:12Speaker 1: from the hockey community. We saw something similar last night
- 15:15Speaker 1: you and I were doing the game. Predator's rookie Azzie
- 15:17Speaker 1: Wisebot scored his first goal against the Flames. Immediate pointed
- 15:20Speaker 1: the sky to Patriot, to his brother Orca, who died
- 15:22Speaker 1: in a car accident in September. First off on Clayton
- 15:25Speaker 1: Keller's you know you know him well, you know his dad.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I mean, just an awful situation.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I talked to my dad about it too,
- 15:32Speaker 2: just because the two fathers trips that were when I
- 15:36Speaker 2: was in Arizona, I was hurt for both of them,
- 15:38Speaker 2: so I didn't go on them. So but my dad
- 15:40Speaker 2: got to sit with with mister Keller and I got
- 15:44Speaker 2: to meet him as well. And just a lovely human
- 15:46Speaker 2: being and very nice, you know, just a loving father
- 15:50Speaker 2: loved his kids and supported them wholeheartedly and anything they did.
- 15:56Speaker 2: So you know, I loved his family. I love Kel's
- 15:58Speaker 2: He's you know, I see him a lot in Arizona
- 16:00Speaker 2: in the summer, and I always try to reach out.
- 16:03Speaker 2: And we're both big fans of the UFC, so we
- 16:05Speaker 2: talk a ton and I always try to keep tabs
- 16:08Speaker 2: with him. So it's sad. Man. I reached out to
- 16:10Speaker 2: him and and just gave him my love and support
- 16:13Speaker 2: and couldn't can't imagine what he's going through right now.
- 16:16Speaker 2: But you know, sometimes in those moments, being close to
- 16:20Speaker 2: the guys and and and being in season is somewhat
- 16:24Speaker 2: cathartic to kind of just be able to get that
- 16:28Speaker 2: frustration out, maybe get your mind off it. You knows,
- 16:32Speaker 2: some beautiful memoriams done by the Saint Louis Blues. You know,
- 16:38Speaker 2: Utah did some great stuff for him, really really supporting
- 16:41Speaker 2: the family. So you know, kudos goes to them. And
- 16:44Speaker 2: it's it's sad when you know this stuff happens, it's life.
- 16:47Speaker 2: But when it's this quick and this fast, you know,
- 16:49Speaker 2: even the Ozzie weisblat stuff with his brother Orca. It's
- 16:53Speaker 2: when it's quick. It's you don't have time to kind
- 16:55Speaker 2: of say goodbye, and it's kind of one of those
- 16:57Speaker 2: shock things there's it feels like there's no closures. So
- 17:01Speaker 2: you know, kudos to the the organizations, and you know,
- 17:04Speaker 2: him having a back to back probably was was, you know,
- 17:09Speaker 2: somewhat good to get his mind off it. I don't know,
- 17:12Speaker 2: you can't put the word good in any of this
- 17:14Speaker 2: because it's it's devastating, but for him to get his
- 17:17Speaker 2: mind off it. And then the second game being Saint
- 17:18Speaker 2: Louis where he's from, and his family was all there
- 17:20Speaker 2: and that was the rink that you know, he talked
- 17:23Speaker 2: after the game that you know, his dad brought him
- 17:25Speaker 2: to and he fell in love with hockey. So just
- 17:28Speaker 2: really touching and my heart goes out to him and
- 17:30Speaker 2: the family and in the wise Bad family as well.
- 17:32Speaker 2: It's just stuff's just it's gut wrenching. It's part of life,
- 17:36Speaker 2: but it's it still sucks.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, we're all lucky to still have our parents with us,
- 17:40Speaker 1: you know how special family is. So obviously our hearts
- 17:42Speaker 1: and prayers and all of our good thoughts sending out
- 17:44Speaker 1: to the Keller family and the Wiseblotz as well.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Still to come.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Here an NHL unscripted Minicutal Wild absolutely on fire the
- 17:50Speaker 1: month of November. We'll talk to one of their key players,
- 17:53Speaker 1: a terrific defenseman. Jared Spurgeon is coming up right after this,
- 18:09Speaker 1: our next guest. Taking the sixth round, one hundred and
- 18:11Speaker 1: fifty sixth overall but the New York Islanders in the
- 18:13Speaker 1: two thousand and eight NHL Draft. He has since collected
- 18:16Speaker 1: one hundred and eighteen goals and four hundred and twenty
- 18:18Speaker 1: points in nine hundred and sixty career NHL games, all
- 18:21Speaker 1: with the Minnesota Wild. Minnesota named him the second captain
- 18:25Speaker 1: in franchise history in twenty twenty one, and he is
- 18:27Speaker 1: the top scoring defenseman in Wild history. Jared Spurgeon, welcome
- 18:31Speaker 1: to NHL.
- 18:32Speaker 6: In the scripted how you doing man, Thanks for having me,
- 18:34Speaker 6: Thank you, Thanks for.
- 18:36Speaker 2: That's a that's a fucking intro right there.
- 18:41Speaker 6: I'll take that recording to the grave, show it to
- 18:43Speaker 6: the kids.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Well, it's a well deserved introduction because the only people realize, Jared,
- 18:47Speaker 1: just how good you are. I think we know how
- 18:48Speaker 1: good the Wild are after this month he had in November.
- 18:50Speaker 1: But you're a veteran defenseman on a blue line right now.
- 18:53Speaker 1: The young guys like Brock Faber. You know, how's it
- 18:56Speaker 1: been mentric Z as well by him, Like, what's it
- 18:58Speaker 1: like for you mentoring these guys because you obviously have
- 19:00Speaker 1: a lot that you can pass on to them.
- 19:02Speaker 6: Yeah. I was very fortunate going through my time early
- 19:05Speaker 6: in my career with great guys. My first year had
- 19:07Speaker 6: Brent Burns. I was only able to spend a short
- 19:11Speaker 6: time with him, but just to see the energy he
- 19:13Speaker 6: brought to the rink every single day, and that the
- 19:15Speaker 6: joy of having a practice day, game day, no different.
- 19:19Speaker 6: He just loves coming to the rank. And lots of
- 19:21Speaker 6: other great guys, but they're very mature for how young
- 19:24Speaker 6: they are, especially Brock. He's such a special player. He
- 19:28Speaker 6: can do everything out there. And Zeeve, I think you
- 19:32Speaker 6: can see that the talent that he has coming up
- 19:34Speaker 6: on the offensive side, but he also defends very hard,
- 19:37Speaker 6: and he's such a great skater that it's hard to
- 19:40Speaker 6: defend what he does out there. So we have a
- 19:43Speaker 6: very special group back there, and I think Jason knows
- 19:46Speaker 6: the decour is always tight on the back end and
- 19:48Speaker 6: we want nothing but the best for each other. So
- 19:50Speaker 6: it's a great time back there right.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Now, man, Jared, that's one hundred percent true of the
- 19:55Speaker 2: decourts your own little world. But you know, talk about
- 19:59Speaker 2: just your start and did you ever expect your nine
- 20:01Speaker 2: hundred and sixty games? I mean, what a career you've
- 20:04Speaker 2: You know, you were an underdog early on and you've
- 20:06Speaker 2: exceeded all expectations. You're such a great leader from everybody
- 20:10Speaker 2: I've talked to with the organization. But you know, what
- 20:12Speaker 2: does it mean to you to kind of get to
- 20:13Speaker 2: this point and kind of take us to your path?
- 20:16Speaker 2: And were there ever moments where you thought like this
- 20:19Speaker 2: wasn't going to happen and cutting out nin er in
- 20:22Speaker 2: sixty games in the NHL?
- 20:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I think I think started with the draft here.
- 20:28Speaker 6: You obviously have a lot of belief in yourself, and
- 20:30Speaker 6: I have a very good support system within my family
- 20:32Speaker 6: and not my now wife, we are together back then
- 20:35Speaker 6: as well. And you go through the draft and you're
- 20:39Speaker 6: just hoping to maybe get picked or even get a
- 20:41Speaker 6: camp invite to show what you have. And I ended
- 20:45Speaker 6: up getting drafted and did end up working out in
- 20:47Speaker 6: the Islanders, but turned out to be a blessing in
- 20:50Speaker 6: disguise to be able to get a chance here in
- 20:51Speaker 6: Minnesota and them to believe in me to even give
- 20:55Speaker 6: me a contract out of Traverse City. And I was
- 20:57Speaker 6: very fortunate to have a great HL team there in
- 21:00Speaker 6: Houston that we were playing very well when they needed
- 21:02Speaker 6: a call up and I was fortunate to get a
- 21:05Speaker 6: chance and we ended up going to the caul A
- 21:09Speaker 6: Cup Final that year. I ended up losing in Game six,
- 21:12Speaker 6: so that that was heartbreaking, But after that it was
- 21:15Speaker 6: this sort of a chip on your shoulder after being
- 21:18Speaker 6: told no and not even getting offered an HL deal
- 21:22Speaker 6: from the Islanders, and sort of just took that to
- 21:25Speaker 6: heart and the belief in myself with the support group,
- 21:29Speaker 6: like I said, that I had around me to sort
- 21:31Speaker 6: of keep pushing me forward. And very fortunate that at
- 21:34Speaker 6: the time Chuck Fletcher took a chance on me.
- 21:37Speaker 2: What was you know, what was something you learned your
- 21:41Speaker 2: first year, you know with the team from a veteran
- 21:43Speaker 2: maybe that kind of stuck with you throughout your career.
- 21:45Speaker 2: You mentioned Brent Burns, but any other guys that really
- 21:49Speaker 2: helped kind of usher you in.
- 21:53Speaker 6: I had a lot with Matt Cullen. He was he
- 21:57Speaker 6: was huge for Yeah, he was He was the first
- 22:00Speaker 6: guy to invite me over for a dinner. I think
- 22:04Speaker 6: more for babysitting than anything. But it was good to
- 22:07Speaker 6: have a guy like that who just obviously had grown
- 22:11Speaker 6: up watching and admired from Afar as a kid watching
- 22:15Speaker 6: watching the NHL. And he was great to me, just
- 22:19Speaker 6: a true professional with the way he treated everyone from
- 22:21Speaker 6: the training staff, coaching staff to the parking lot attendants.
- 22:26Speaker 6: Just watching him day in and day out really had
- 22:28Speaker 6: something that stuck with me from the day one of
- 22:31Speaker 6: seeing him be a professional athlete.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Well, it's important the fact that you've always, you know,
- 22:37Speaker 1: had that leadership kind of again to JD's point, that
- 22:39Speaker 1: you've really overcome adversity seared you and Tyler ed us
- 22:42Speaker 1: both cut from your bantam Triple A team because you're
- 22:44Speaker 1: both considered too small. Both you guys went on to
- 22:46Speaker 1: make it to the show. So how gratifying is it
- 22:49Speaker 1: to have a moment like that, overcome that the way
- 22:51Speaker 1: you have.
- 22:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess we're fortunate, not anymore now, we're no,
- 22:58Speaker 6: we're good, but very fortunate to have someone to go
- 23:04Speaker 6: through that with. Tyler and I had played since we're
- 23:08Speaker 6: six or seven together, So to get cut from the
- 23:11Speaker 6: same team, to have someone to sort of lean on
- 23:13Speaker 6: and go through it together and both have that same
- 23:16Speaker 6: goal in mind to to really show them that they're
- 23:19Speaker 6: wrong at that time and then obviously and are going
- 23:22Speaker 6: on to be a first round picked to Buffalo. Is
- 23:24Speaker 6: something pretty special over from I think that was four
- 23:27Speaker 6: years later from being cut from the bantam team. So
- 23:32Speaker 6: it definitely helped having someone in your corner that was
- 23:34Speaker 6: going through the same thing.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Uh, let's cut to now, you know you're right now
- 23:40Speaker 2: eleven one and two in November, Yes, Per Swollstead or the.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Wall of Saint Pete as well, Paul St. Paul.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Why do I say Saint Pete? What is all that Russian?
- 23:50Speaker 2: So the wall to the Wall of St. Paul. I
- 23:53Speaker 2: mean he's named NHL Rookie of the Month, four shoutouts
- 23:56Speaker 2: in his last UH in the last four weeks. But
- 23:59Speaker 2: talk a little bit about the message in the room
- 24:01Speaker 2: right now and kind of you guys turning things around
- 24:04Speaker 2: after that tough start.
- 24:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I think we always had the belief in there,
- 24:09Speaker 6: but as you know, at the start of the season
- 24:10Speaker 6: there's such high expectations and when it's not going exactly
- 24:14Speaker 6: the way you want there, there can be some panic.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Put out there that isn't exactly in the room, and
- 24:20Speaker 6: but as a group, you want to succeed right away,
- 24:23Speaker 6: and there's some frustration creeping in I thought at that time.
- 24:26Speaker 6: And it wasn't that we were playing bad, we just
- 24:29Speaker 6: weren't very consistent. We would have some spurts where we
- 24:32Speaker 6: were playing great for ten minutes and then we would
- 24:34Speaker 6: have five manuts for the game would get out a
- 24:36Speaker 6: hand for us and we couldn't fight back and nothing.
- 24:39Speaker 6: Just after that we just start to calm down and
- 24:41Speaker 6: play our game again. And obviously having the two goaltenders
- 24:44Speaker 6: back there that are making the saves that they do
- 24:46Speaker 6: for us is it helps a lot. Then, gives you
- 24:49Speaker 6: that confidence that you can make that play, that if
- 24:51Speaker 6: something does happen, that they're back there to save you.
- 24:54Speaker 6: So it's been a great time right now to be
- 24:57Speaker 6: in the room and obviously come to the rings. So
- 24:59Speaker 6: we're looking to keep you that going.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you've kept pace right now with a really tough
- 25:03Speaker 1: central division. I'm I mean the Avs, the Stars, Blackhawks
- 25:07Speaker 1: have been surprising, the Mammoth and the Jets.
- 25:09Speaker 3: What's it like knowing there's no letup in that division?
- 25:11Speaker 2: That sucks?
- 25:13Speaker 6: Yeah, you look at the standings and you're always like,
- 25:15Speaker 6: all right, we're catching someone, but then someone's right behind you.
- 25:18Speaker 6: So it's just the way the league is nowadays. All
- 25:22Speaker 6: the teams are so good. I think you can see
- 25:25Speaker 6: every single night anyone can beat any team. It doesn't
- 25:27Speaker 6: matter where you are in the standings. But that is
- 25:30Speaker 6: a big thing that you have to keep going. You
- 25:32Speaker 6: have to keep consistently winning games to keep yourself at
- 25:35Speaker 6: pace with those top teams.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know you need it. You mentioned it early.
- 25:40Speaker 2: You need your dcor to step up. Not just the goaltenders.
- 25:43Speaker 2: I mean your goaltenders have been incredible and I always
- 25:46Speaker 2: remembered as a d man being in front of goalies
- 25:48Speaker 2: is so much fun. You so much more confidence and
- 25:50Speaker 2: to your point, fun to come to the rink. But
- 25:53Speaker 2: talking about your blue line, you mentioned favor a little
- 25:55Speaker 2: bit in Bullyam, but you got kind of a beauty
- 25:57Speaker 2: back there, a little bit of a cave man, not
- 25:59Speaker 2: quite Brent Burns. But Jake Middleton, you got any funny,
- 26:03Speaker 2: you got any good stories, Jake the Snake.
- 26:06Speaker 6: He's a great guy. I said, we're starting on the
- 26:08Speaker 6: same page. Big music buffs love to go to concerts,
- 26:13Speaker 6: but he's a special guy. He keeps that room pretty late.
- 26:16Speaker 6: Whenever you need to laugh. He's the guy to look
- 26:18Speaker 6: forward in the dress room. But nothing, nothing too crazy
- 26:23Speaker 6: on Jake right now. He says his daughter that's a
- 26:25Speaker 6: year old, So I think it's sort of slowed him
- 26:27Speaker 6: down a little bit.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Guys go to Yeah, I was gonna say top three concerts.
- 26:32Speaker 6: Uh so, well, actually we just went to Stevie Nicks
- 26:37Speaker 6: a couple of weeks ago, which was that she was awesome,
- 26:39Speaker 6: So that's a throwback obviously, But yeah, we haven't seen them,
- 26:45Speaker 6: but we went a little bit of Morgan wall in
- 26:48Speaker 6: this summer, Zach Bryan. We go to some smaller ones too.
- 26:53Speaker 6: I don't know if you've ever heard of, like the
- 26:54Speaker 6: Fruit Bats or anything like that. Yeah, smaller venue, but
- 26:59Speaker 6: a little bit more alternative type music, so we we
- 27:04Speaker 6: try to hit it all.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Stevie Nixt is still so you guys, you guys rock
- 27:08Speaker 2: a little Fleetwood Mac in the room.
- 27:10Speaker 6: I'm assuming yes, Yeah, some of the young guys are
- 27:13Speaker 6: obviously a little oblivious to what's going on, but it's
- 27:17Speaker 6: it still goes on in there. I know you're shaking
- 27:21Speaker 6: your head that we've had those shakes of a bunch too.
- 27:23Speaker 6: I think we had a Whitney Houston song on once
- 27:26Speaker 6: and asked a couple of young guys if they knew
- 27:28Speaker 6: who's had it going on, and they can't tell us
- 27:31Speaker 6: who in the.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Song, so hopefully it was I don't want to dance
- 27:34Speaker 1: with somebody, go ahead, you know, but it's it's true,
- 27:36Speaker 1: like like spurgs tell them you'll be in the room,
- 27:39Speaker 1: like and I kind of caught it near the end
- 27:41Speaker 1: of my career, so three years ago, like these guys
- 27:44Speaker 1: the music selection like they wouldn't Some of them didn't
- 27:47Speaker 1: even know who Fleetwood Mac are, Like, like who is
- 27:50Speaker 1: that I need chaboozie or a little baby or whatever.
- 27:55Speaker 6: Stuff you can't understand. It's it's a lot different than
- 27:57Speaker 6: it was. And they touched the iPad a lot more
- 28:00Speaker 6: than they should. Uh if they before when we were young,
- 28:04Speaker 6: zero chance. I was touching that radio for a while.
- 28:07Speaker 6: So we got we got some good, good DJs in
- 28:10Speaker 6: there in the room, and so I'm not so good.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Who's the worst?
- 28:14Speaker 6: I can't sell guys?
- 28:15Speaker 2: Yeah, come on, No, who's the second worst?
- 28:20Speaker 6: No, No, he's not the worst. But Moose can overplay
- 28:23Speaker 6: a song in about a day. Yeah, that's the that's
- 28:27Speaker 6: the only complain about him. He has great tastes of music,
- 28:30Speaker 6: but it's the same couple of songs for a week.
- 28:33Speaker 2: You never liked that song killer, Yeah, I like that.
- 28:36Speaker 2: That's somebody under the Bus. That's like you're like, okay,
- 28:38Speaker 2: enough enough.
- 28:39Speaker 6: Yeah, good, good taste of music, but the song is
- 28:42Speaker 6: over within a couple of days. Uh.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Carill Capri Sauce Spurs is one of the great playmakers
- 28:47Speaker 1: in the game. Obviously got taken care of financially, but
- 28:49Speaker 1: really don't know a ton about him. He seems like
- 28:51Speaker 1: a quiet presence with the guys with something you can
- 28:53Speaker 1: tell me about Carill the thrill.
- 28:55Speaker 6: Uh. I think he speaks a lot better than he
- 28:59Speaker 6: puts off to you guys. So yeah, he's He's a
- 29:02Speaker 6: lot of fun in the room. He's such a good guy,
- 29:05Speaker 6: like disrespectful obviously. The way he plays on the ice
- 29:08Speaker 6: is is just special. He can do everything. He doesn't
- 29:11Speaker 6: shy away from any hard area. He makes plays, he
- 29:15Speaker 6: can create anything any shift. But no, he's just a great,
- 29:19Speaker 6: great guy off off the ice as well. He brings
- 29:21Speaker 6: a lighthearted approach to it, but at the same time
- 29:24Speaker 6: he works like crazy when he's out there.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Well, and he's The chemistry with Zuke is crazy. And
- 29:30Speaker 2: I've heard great things about caprisof in the room, but Zuke,
- 29:33Speaker 2: I've heard from multiple guys like he's one of the best,
- 29:36Speaker 2: funniest teammates. I can only imagine like their banter because
- 29:40Speaker 2: they're so connected on the ice that there has to
- 29:42Speaker 2: be some sort of like good relationship and chirping going
- 29:45Speaker 2: back and forth between them.
- 29:46Speaker 6: Yeah, he's I think Zuki is the only one that
- 29:48Speaker 6: can keep Carol fully happy. If he's having a tough day,
- 29:52Speaker 6: He's always chirping at him, making sure he knows he's
- 29:55Speaker 6: doing fine.
- 29:56Speaker 2: So he's the carill whisper.
- 29:58Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure. Like he's he's one of the quickest,
- 30:01Speaker 6: wittiest guys you'll ever meet, and he just brings that
- 30:04Speaker 6: lightness to the room when maybe things are a little down,
- 30:07Speaker 6: or even if it's just a quick wit with the
- 30:09Speaker 6: coaches meeting or something like that, he'll always brings up
- 30:12Speaker 6: to the table to get everyone laughing and just a
- 30:15Speaker 6: bit of a little bit later in the room.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Always love guys like that.
- 30:18Speaker 1: You know. It's amazing playing in the state of Hockey
- 30:20Speaker 1: and Minnesota for those who haven't seen the spurge, How
- 30:22Speaker 1: can you describe that experience?
- 30:25Speaker 6: Yeah, it's awesome. Obviously I have some kids that are
- 30:28Speaker 6: in it as well, so you get to see it firsthand.
- 30:30Speaker 6: And I think it just starts from a young age.
- 30:33Speaker 6: Just the communities that you play for, you play rate in,
- 30:36Speaker 6: the sort of the city that you live in, and
- 30:39Speaker 6: just the pride that they have for those teams. Whether
- 30:42Speaker 6: it's a seven year old tournament or up into the
- 30:46Speaker 6: high school, it's pretty special to see the rinks get filled,
- 30:49Speaker 6: just to see your home team play. And right now
- 30:52Speaker 6: the outdoor rinks are getting going, so it's it's pretty
- 30:55Speaker 6: fun fun to drive around and see those lights on
- 30:58Speaker 6: and kids out there playing. If it could be I
- 31:00Speaker 6: guess Celsius, it would be a mine twenty five and
- 31:03Speaker 6: they're still out there flying around, so it's awesome to see.
- 31:07Speaker 6: So we're fortunate we put one in the backyard and
- 31:09Speaker 6: I'm out there every once in a while with the
- 31:11Speaker 6: kids doing it. It's awesome. It brings back to a
- 31:13Speaker 6: lot of great memories.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I was about to say, outdoor rinks makes you think
- 31:15Speaker 1: of our youth as Canadians certainly growing up and you know,
- 31:18Speaker 1: like you said, a little hot chocolate after your feet
- 31:19Speaker 1: are frozen. How intense there were a hockey dad spurs.
- 31:23Speaker 3: That's all I want to know.
- 31:24Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's it's different. I try to put
- 31:31Speaker 6: that down and sort of hang hang low in the corners.
- 31:34Speaker 6: But no, they're great, and obviously they all they want
- 31:38Speaker 6: is the best for their children and whether it's their
- 31:41Speaker 6: daughter or their son playing. But I think you don't
- 31:44Speaker 6: see that when you're a kid going through it, but
- 31:46Speaker 6: when you're on the other side, it's it's pretty crazy
- 31:49Speaker 6: to see everything that goes into it.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Is it hard to remove yourself because you know, I've
- 31:53Speaker 2: talked to some guys that used to play in the
- 31:56Speaker 2: NFL and and they're like, in, you know, they'll be
- 31:58Speaker 2: watching their kids play football and the coach is like
- 32:01Speaker 2: giving out orders, but then like kind of half looking
- 32:04Speaker 2: at the x NFL are being like, am I doing
- 32:07Speaker 2: it right? Am I doing it right? They're like no, No,
- 32:09Speaker 2: You're like do your thing. It's good. I'm just a dad.
- 32:11Speaker 2: But it is it hard to like kind of separate
- 32:13Speaker 2: that a little bit?
- 32:15Speaker 6: Yeah? I think so, But at this start, I think
- 32:20Speaker 6: you just try and let them know that you're just
- 32:22Speaker 6: there to support and hopefully enjoy he's enjoying what he's doing.
- 32:25Speaker 6: So my oldest helped her a little at the start
- 32:29Speaker 6: and then sort of got away from it, and then
- 32:31Speaker 6: same with our youngest boy. He plays. I'll go on
- 32:33Speaker 6: the bench every once in a while, but I want
- 32:35Speaker 6: them to have that experience for themselves. It doesn't have
- 32:38Speaker 6: to do anything with me, and let the coach do
- 32:41Speaker 6: his job and I'll be there to support my son
- 32:44Speaker 6: or my daughter and whatever they do. So if they
- 32:47Speaker 6: if they love it, I'm there for man. If they don't,
- 32:49Speaker 6: they can they can choose something else as well.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Do your kids do your kids kind of realize that
- 32:54Speaker 2: Have they realized like in that community, you know who
- 32:58Speaker 2: you are and when they come to the games, is
- 33:00Speaker 2: it kind of setting or they getting to that age
- 33:01Speaker 2: now where they're like, oh, yeah, Dad's that's the talk
- 33:04Speaker 2: of the town here.
- 33:07Speaker 6: Well not me, but the team is, so yeah.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Listen, nothing to scoff at what you have. I know
- 33:12Speaker 2: you're not making seventeen sheets like Carill, but you are.
- 33:16Speaker 2: You know, you're you're mister Minnesota wild.
- 33:19Speaker 4: No.
- 33:19Speaker 6: I think they're the last couple of years they've definitely
- 33:22Speaker 6: understood a bit more and enjoyed it, which is awesome
- 33:25Speaker 6: for myself and my wife as well that they'll actually
- 33:28Speaker 6: remember me playing the game that I loved as well
- 33:30Speaker 6: and they're part of it will have some great memories
- 33:32Speaker 6: as well. So it's Minnesota is an awesome community too.
- 33:36Speaker 6: There's such nice people here. They're very respectful. So we're
- 33:40Speaker 6: just another family in the community.
- 33:43Speaker 1: You're telling us Socer he like the host for Thanksgiving,
- 33:45Speaker 1: which again shows your leadership. You know, a guy who
- 33:47Speaker 1: doesn't on these but also off the ice. Why is
- 33:50Speaker 1: this something that's important to you?
- 33:52Speaker 6: Well, I think you you go through your first couple
- 33:55Speaker 6: of years as well, and like I said, Matt Collen
- 33:57Speaker 6: had me over for Christmas dinner and stuff like that,
- 34:00Speaker 6: so you learn from that. But just the tightness of
- 34:03Speaker 6: the group and just not feeling alone. It can be
- 34:05Speaker 6: lonely being in a new city by yourself, even if
- 34:09Speaker 6: you do have a girlfriend or wife with you. But
- 34:12Speaker 6: it is this great to be together. Obviously, Thanksgiving such
- 34:15Speaker 6: a big holiday here in the stage, so we had
- 34:19Speaker 6: to think it's I think we had twenty four people
- 34:22Speaker 6: over in about ten kids this year, so it's awesome
- 34:26Speaker 6: to get together and just hang out and celebrate those
- 34:28Speaker 6: things together and be a big family.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Well, I reached out to Goose before I talk to
- 34:34Speaker 2: whose management.
- 34:34Speaker 6: Now, yeah, he's on the other side.
- 34:36Speaker 2: He's on the other side. Alex Kulogowski is now a
- 34:39Speaker 2: straight management for the minutes of a while. And you know,
- 34:41Speaker 2: I've met you, We've hung out and had a couple
- 34:43Speaker 2: of fun nights together. But I know you like to
- 34:47Speaker 2: set up team party or team get together and get
- 34:50Speaker 2: the guys together, like you said, Like for you, what's
- 34:53Speaker 2: one thing as like the host that you always need
- 34:56Speaker 2: to have every time, And it's like become your calling card?
- 34:59Speaker 2: Is there anything you focus on post is a big
- 35:04Speaker 2: thing I got Like when I played, I hosted a bit.
- 35:06Speaker 2: I always had to have like a nice loge at
- 35:08Speaker 2: the team parties for shots. It became a little bit
- 35:11Speaker 2: of a calling card.
- 35:12Speaker 6: Yeah, there's always a certain couple of things that need
- 35:15Speaker 6: to be in the fridge. There's like go to's. I
- 35:20Speaker 6: think more a lot of ours is like the snacks
- 35:22Speaker 6: that go around. My wife makes them massive because of
- 35:25Speaker 6: a candy salad which is just insane amont of candy
- 35:28Speaker 6: and a massive bull that all the guys seem to love.
- 35:31Speaker 6: And it's always gone by the end of the night.
- 35:32Speaker 6: And there's some things called chippers here too, which they
- 35:36Speaker 6: sort of sound discussing, but literally a salt like a chip,
- 35:40Speaker 6: like a Ruffles chip, but it's dipped in milk, chocolate
- 35:43Speaker 6: and hard and it's actually unbelievable. And those are gone
- 35:47Speaker 6: every single time. And then obviously just the beer pong
- 35:50Speaker 6: table is usually the number one hit around around the party.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Okay, okay, little beer pong, Okay, nice custom made or what?
- 35:57Speaker 2: Just do you bring in the old?
- 35:59Speaker 6: No? Just you got gold school just can't be too
- 36:02Speaker 6: high maintience.
- 36:03Speaker 2: I mean, I put Nick Schmaltz asked, asked Minnie Heni Stroza.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Nick Schmaltz has a North Dakota just straight custom made
- 36:11Speaker 2: beer punk table that he brings all the guys on.
- 36:13Speaker 6: So I think we got ours from Costco Classic Old Yeah.
- 36:21Speaker 2: And then lastly, I know you're a big Halloween guy.
- 36:23Speaker 2: So and Goose also said you always also have, always
- 36:27Speaker 2: have to have some kind of prosthetic, uh something like that.
- 36:30Speaker 3: That's what he must is a prosthetic.
- 36:35Speaker 6: We're big fans of Halloween and we're trying to get
- 36:39Speaker 6: some funny, funny costumes. So this year that was a
- 36:42Speaker 6: lower Rex and my wife was O'Hair hair, so she
- 36:46Speaker 6: had the nice wig going on. But I think, yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 6: one year as Britney spears, so had I had to
- 36:53Speaker 6: fill the chest a little bit there. But yeah, so
- 36:57Speaker 6: we have a we have a little bit of we
- 37:01Speaker 6: take pride in a gold number one year so.
- 37:03Speaker 2: That you I did a powers too, I did.
- 37:05Speaker 6: Yeah. So the blades on short shorts, so all that
- 37:09Speaker 6: going on, so it's flying around. Those things are hard
- 37:11Speaker 6: to rip on. Tho the four wheelers, Oh well.
- 37:14Speaker 2: I can only imagine you're trying to do that. I
- 37:16Speaker 2: my wife just threw me in heels and made me
- 37:18Speaker 2: be a fembot.
- 37:21Speaker 6: So no, we like Halleen. Helen's a fun one. But
- 37:24Speaker 6: it's starting to get like we said earlier about music.
- 37:27Speaker 6: You're like, you bring out a costume, You're like, well,
- 37:29Speaker 6: half the guys won't even know who that is. So
- 37:33Speaker 6: you have to be a little bit more current with
- 37:35Speaker 6: what you got put it on.
- 37:36Speaker 2: You gotta go with Bieber. I think Tal's got something
- 37:39Speaker 2: for you. He's been chomping at the bit. He's a
- 37:40Speaker 2: super fan.
- 37:41Speaker 4: So just a couple of just a couple of quick
- 37:43Speaker 4: ques for me, Jack, I can never pass up the
- 37:46Speaker 4: opportunity to ask anyone about Brent Burns. To me, he's
- 37:49Speaker 4: the world's most interesting man.
- 37:51Speaker 2: JD obviously played with him.
- 37:52Speaker 4: You came into the league and he was there, so
- 37:54Speaker 4: any any Burns, the stories, how big was the reptile
- 37:58Speaker 4: collection when when you got there.
- 37:59Speaker 2: I mean, anything about Brent Burns would be great.
- 38:03Speaker 6: So I was only my first year, so I was
- 38:05Speaker 6: pretty quiet obviously, just hanging in the weeds trying to
- 38:09Speaker 6: not be noticed, so I didn't get sent down. But
- 38:13Speaker 6: he's I just always remember him coming in and wrestling
- 38:16Speaker 6: our medical trader every single day, just instantly raped the
- 38:20Speaker 6: medical room and the wrestling was on. So I didn't
- 38:25Speaker 6: never got over to the house to see the big
- 38:27Speaker 6: zoo that I heard about and all that, but he
- 38:29Speaker 6: was getting tattoos at that time of all the different
- 38:32Speaker 6: things he had going on there. So he was also
- 38:36Speaker 6: such a great guy to me my first year. He
- 38:38Speaker 6: would take me aside after practice and work on little
- 38:40Speaker 6: things and helped out a lot. So I'm very appreciative
- 38:43Speaker 6: of what he did for me.
- 38:45Speaker 2: And just last one for me.
- 38:46Speaker 4: We mentioned Zuke before I covered him when he was
- 38:48Speaker 4: with the Rangers, and he always had that nasty side
- 38:52Speaker 4: to his game. I know you know what I'm talking about.
- 38:54Speaker 4: So I got to ask, what was the response like
- 38:56Speaker 4: on the bench when he goes after Logan Stanley the
- 38:58Speaker 4: other he's giving up fifty pounds to that guy and he's, yeah,
- 39:03Speaker 4: showing no fear. So talks the response you know from
- 39:07Speaker 4: the guys when they see him.
- 39:08Speaker 6: Doing that, We love it and we're just happy that
- 39:11Speaker 6: that punched in connector else the head would have been
- 39:13Speaker 6: spun backwards. But he doesn't. He doesn't back down from anyone,
- 39:17Speaker 6: and it's yeah, he he brings that grit to he's
- 39:20Speaker 6: such a good player, versatile player that he brings so
- 39:25Speaker 6: much to her tea. But yeah, when when there's a scrumm,
- 39:27Speaker 6: he always seems to find his way in there.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Certainly a guy never uh never misses the action.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Jared Spurson having a fantastic season for Minnesota while listening
- 39:35Speaker 1: the month of November was special, keep it rolling in
- 39:37Speaker 1: December for the state of hockey again.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Rats on what's been a really wonderful career. Thanks so much, Spurts.
- 39:42Speaker 6: Awesome, Thanks guys, thanks for having me.
- 39:47Speaker 1: H So the Fouad sixty we're officially into award season.
- 39:55Speaker 1: New York film chrit Is giving love to one battle
- 39:57Speaker 1: after another. Pt Anderson's film for Best Picture of the
- 39:59Speaker 1: Year the best one I've seen All You're the Great
- 40:01Speaker 1: Iranian film. It was just an accident. Jafar Panahi wins
- 40:04Speaker 1: Best Director. I think he'll get nominated for an Academy
- 40:07Speaker 1: Award as well. He's been a great director for a
- 40:08Speaker 1: long time. But the movie I'm talking about is called
- 40:10Speaker 1: Jay Kelly. It comes out on Friday on Netflix. Was
- 40:13Speaker 1: able to watch the screener the other night. And George
- 40:16Speaker 1: Clooney not much of a stretch playing a famous actor
- 40:18Speaker 1: who is reflecting on his life while getting a Lifetime
- 40:21Speaker 1: Achievement award in Italy. Huh, where's the acting in this?
- 40:24Speaker 1: And yet it's one of my favorite movies of the year.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Noah Bomback is the director. He of course did Marriage Story.
- 40:30Speaker 1: He's an excellent director. Really has a great year, I
- 40:32Speaker 1: think for Dialogue and Clooney the role fits him like
- 40:34Speaker 1: a glove. But of course it's not exactly George Clooney.
- 40:36Speaker 1: It's elements of his life. The actor grew up in Kentucky,
- 40:39Speaker 1: as does the character in the movie. But Clooney in
- 40:41Speaker 1: real life is very close to friend's family. This character,
- 40:44Speaker 1: the one he's playing, is disassociated from his family, trying
- 40:46Speaker 1: to reconnect with his daughter's talking to an ex wife, etc.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Clooney is very good in the movie, but the revelation
- 40:52Speaker 1: is Adam Sandler, who looks prime to finally get an
- 40:54Speaker 1: Academy Award nomination.
- 40:55Speaker 3: There was buzz around him for Uncut Gems.
- 40:58Speaker 1: He got snubbed, buzzer run in for Hustle, got a
- 41:00Speaker 1: Screen Actress Guild nomination, did not get nominated for an Oscar.
- 41:02Speaker 1: But I gotta tell you, I walked in a Jay
- 41:04Speaker 1: Kelly said to myself. Adam Sandler deserves the Best Supporting
- 41:06Speaker 1: Actor nomination. He plays Cloney's longtime suffering manager, and as
- 41:10Speaker 1: you know JD. In the world of acting, you know
- 41:12Speaker 1: about the actors, but the people around them often have
- 41:14Speaker 1: to take much of the abuse. The agent, the publicist,
- 41:17Speaker 1: the lawyer, et cetera. And sailor does an amazing job
- 41:19Speaker 1: juggling all the commotions in Cloney's life and realizing all
- 41:22Speaker 1: the sacrifices he has to make as well. It's funny,
- 41:25Speaker 1: It's charming. J Kelly is available this weekend on Netflix.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Encourage you to check it out. JD.
- 41:30Speaker 1: You've seen Pogonia, Your thoughts in your coast Lanthemos's new
- 41:33Speaker 1: film with a shaved head from Emmastone.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that you guys, the goddamn movies that you recommend
- 41:41Speaker 2: to me. I for like, I cannot, for the life
- 41:45Speaker 2: of me, every time I leave him, I'm like, what
- 41:47Speaker 2: the fuck did I just watch Pogonia? What was the
- 41:52Speaker 2: other one with Demi Moore? That I just saw the
- 41:55Speaker 2: Margaret Quayley substance. I'm just like, I can't. I haven't
- 41:59Speaker 2: slept in six days.
- 42:01Speaker 4: Uh.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I mean, I love the acting in it, and I
- 42:04Speaker 2: love the I love the premise of it. It kind
- 42:07Speaker 2: of really gets off the rails quite quickly of like
- 42:10Speaker 2: conspiracy theorists that are right and there is you know,
- 42:15Speaker 2: life out there touches on the alien side of things,
- 42:17Speaker 2: but you know, the world of like it's another you know,
- 42:21Speaker 2: me and my wife looked at each other because we
- 42:23Speaker 2: looked at like one battle after the other and all
- 42:25Speaker 2: these other movies, and it's like it's a lot of
- 42:27Speaker 2: like anarchist movies that are coming out right now, like
- 42:32Speaker 2: The Little Man against the Establishment, and what is the establishment?
- 42:37Speaker 2: These you know, shadow governments and shadow companies that are
- 42:42Speaker 2: trying to do nefarious things to the little people. And
- 42:46Speaker 2: that's what it just seems like it constantly is. And
- 42:48Speaker 2: it's like, rise up, Rise up, And I'm like, are
- 42:51Speaker 2: we supposed to revolt right now? Or is that what
- 42:53Speaker 2: we're looking for? Is this the Boston Tea Party all.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Over again seventeen seventy six, whether it's The Running Man,
- 42:59Speaker 1: whether it's one battle after another, a lot of dystopian
- 43:01Speaker 1: futures right now.
- 43:02Speaker 3: And you're right, people want to get fired up. Good
- 43:04Speaker 3: use of nefarious Do you like Jesse?
- 43:06Speaker 2: Thank you?
- 43:06Speaker 3: But do you like Jesse Plummer's better? He was fat
- 43:08Speaker 3: or now and he's skinny and frail?
- 43:11Speaker 2: I mean Jesse Plemons in Game Night is one of
- 43:13Speaker 2: the funnier performances by an actor which I think is
- 43:17Speaker 2: an underrated.
- 43:17Speaker 3: Underrated movie.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Jason Baben, Yeah, yeah, he is so good in that.
- 43:22Speaker 2: When he emails the Tostito company because they because he
- 43:27Speaker 2: goes there's a special three for one. He goes, it's
- 43:29Speaker 2: a little odd. That doesn't seem like it's not profitable
- 43:32Speaker 2: for the Tostitos brand. He goes out and emails them
- 43:35Speaker 2: and gets to the bottom of it. Uh, sorry, that
- 43:38Speaker 2: was just a funny, weird thing. That was my That
- 43:40Speaker 2: was my add coming out there. Guys, stop listening to me.
- 43:44Speaker 3: We haven't a talent.
- 43:44Speaker 1: There tal Your thoughts on Jake Kelly, uh, Bagonia, whatever
- 43:49Speaker 1: you like?
- 43:49Speaker 4: Any movies you mentioned, Jesse Plemmons, you mentioned. I love
- 43:53Speaker 4: Jesse Plemmon. I've been on his I've been enjoying him
- 43:57Speaker 4: since the Friday Night Lights TV show.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Wow, if you remember that he's really you mentioned.
- 44:02Speaker 3: The uh the weight fluctuation.
- 44:04Speaker 2: I mean, I don't care. I mean, he's a great actor.
- 44:06Speaker 2: It doesn't matter what he looks like, but I do.
- 44:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 44:07Speaker 4: If you recall, there was a film on Netflix called
- 44:11Speaker 4: El Camino, which was basically like a sequel to the
- 44:14Speaker 4: Breaking Bad series Amazing Aaron Paul, And it's supposed to
- 44:17Speaker 4: take place the day after the last episode of Breaking
- 44:21Speaker 4: Bad and Jesse Paul not Jesse what is that? Just
- 44:25Speaker 4: like Jesse Pinkman, what's the Aaron pud Aaron Paul, Aaron
- 44:29Speaker 4: Paul and Jesse Plemons are playing the same characters the
- 44:32Speaker 4: day after the series ends, except by that point both
- 44:35Speaker 4: actors had gained like thirty pounds, so they looked completely hilarious.
- 44:39Speaker 4: It was cool, cool film. I enjoyed it, and I
- 44:42Speaker 4: love Breaking Bad. But that's just something I was thinking
- 44:44Speaker 4: about when you mentioned Jesse Plemons. But you know what,
- 44:47Speaker 4: not a huge bombback fan personally, but pretty psyched to
- 44:50Speaker 4: see j Kelly. I like Clooney, so I'm gonna definitely
- 44:53Speaker 4: be checking that out.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Is your issue with it?
- 44:54Speaker 1: You think his movie's a little too hyper intellectual, little
- 44:56Speaker 1: too talkie.
- 44:57Speaker 3: What's your issue? You don't like Squid in the Whale?
- 44:59Speaker 3: Great movie.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I feel like he's a little too proud of himself.
- 45:05Speaker 4: I get the feeling a little too like they're gonna
- 45:09Speaker 4: love this line, check out this line, you know. I mean,
- 45:11Speaker 4: I've liked some of his stuff, but you know, I'm
- 45:14Speaker 4: not lining up to see Noah Bambach. I enjoyed the
- 45:17Speaker 4: Squid in the Whale, but yeah, this will be fun,
- 45:20Speaker 4: and you know, we get to see Adam Sandler try
- 45:23Speaker 4: to do dramatic acting for the however many time.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Exactly this is his Jim Carrey moment, just trying to
- 45:32Speaker 1: get that Oscar nomination. Will it finally break through from
- 45:34Speaker 1: Audiam Steiler front of But if you like Cloney, you're
- 45:35Speaker 1: gonna love the movie.
- 45:36Speaker 3: There's no question about it, all right. More hockey talk.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Kyle Paul Mary's at six to eight weeks at Torney
- 45:40Speaker 1: cl The Innocent saw plenty of replays across social media,
- 45:43Speaker 1: but not for the hit itself, as Paul Mary didn't
- 45:46Speaker 1: just return to the bench after the hit. He got
- 45:48Speaker 1: plenty of respect and appreciation for stealing the puck from
- 45:50Speaker 1: an unsuspected Emil Andre as he was on the way
- 45:53Speaker 1: to the bench. Then he died the puck to Jonathan Druan,
- 45:56Speaker 1: who then sets up to Amil Hineman for a goal.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Unbelievable JD greatest the sist of all time.
- 46:02Speaker 6: Wow.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Kyle Paul Mary then six to eight months on the
- 46:05Speaker 2: shelf right to the surgery table. Assists a lot of guys.
- 46:10Speaker 2: When you get injured like that, you sometimes get like
- 46:12Speaker 2: a minus or you get a goal scored against you.
- 46:15Speaker 2: And I'm not laughing because it's it sucks because you
- 46:19Speaker 2: know a guy that' said a great career. You know,
- 46:22Speaker 2: those are tough, tough injuries. Those take like a full
- 46:24Speaker 2: year after your you're healthy to kind of feel good again.
- 46:27Speaker 2: So but what a guts the effort by him and
- 46:30Speaker 2: gets a couple of stick candles in and a nice
- 46:32Speaker 2: little backhand sauce and Bob's your uncle.
- 46:36Speaker 1: A pretty good story there. Meantime, Carter Hart returns for
- 46:39Speaker 1: the Vegas Golden Knights. They really need help right now.
- 46:41Speaker 1: The guards that are goaltending with Aiden Hill being out
- 46:44Speaker 1: there were six six and six without him, and so
- 46:46Speaker 1: Heart comes back, well documented what he has gone through,
- 46:49Speaker 1: had not been an NHL on that six hundred and
- 46:51Speaker 1: eighty two days. Vegas Golden Knight's time to a two year,
- 46:53Speaker 1: four million dollar contract. As we were watching a bit
- 46:56Speaker 1: of that game last night, it was interesting, We're like,
- 46:58Speaker 1: you made that joke, JDA. But the fact maybe the
- 47:00Speaker 1: bench is like the coaches must tell him, hey, let
- 47:03Speaker 1: like one shot go through early, like let there be
- 47:05Speaker 1: a breakaway chance, kind of get Carter Hart in the game.
- 47:07Speaker 1: It's been so long between the pipes you could just
- 47:09Speaker 1: imagine that rust that was there for him. Good news
- 47:12Speaker 1: is they got that early goal right out of the gate,
- 47:13Speaker 1: which helps him a little bit to relax. But Carter
- 47:16Speaker 1: Hart back in the NHL. Your thoughts, yeah, listen, he he.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I thought he performed well for this team.
- 47:25Speaker 2: I mean there's a he makes some saves that allows
- 47:27Speaker 2: them to get that win and shootout out Dual Chicago
- 47:30Speaker 2: and Spencer Knight, who's been just having a fantastic year.
- 47:35Speaker 2: They need a goalie right now, and he could be that.
- 47:37Speaker 2: You know, before all the the shit that went down
- 47:41Speaker 2: and all the hubbub and all the and everything that
- 47:44Speaker 2: he's kind of been through and been dealing with. Is
- 47:50Speaker 2: right or wrong? Is Listen? He was supposed to be
- 47:54Speaker 2: and touted as the next goalie in Philly and he
- 47:59Speaker 2: was really kind of coming into his own. So if
- 48:01Speaker 2: he can find a semblance of that, you know, they
- 48:03Speaker 2: might have found something in Vegas that definitely can kind
- 48:07Speaker 2: of help whenever Aiden Hill comes back and you have
- 48:09Speaker 2: a good one to two punch and now you have
- 48:11Speaker 2: a Kira Schmidt as well, and maybe that even gives
- 48:13Speaker 2: you a little bit of leeway to trade one of
- 48:16Speaker 2: them and bring another piece in. And because I do
- 48:18Speaker 2: think they're still missing something on the dep side for
- 48:21Speaker 2: this team, just an impactful bottom six forward. But yeah,
- 48:25Speaker 2: he showed showed out well. A couple of mishaps, you know,
- 48:27Speaker 2: that Tyler Bertuzzi goal where he's coming out of the
- 48:30Speaker 2: nets swimming, but he made some big saves and you
- 48:33Speaker 2: know it's you. Other than the Bertuzzi goal, the the
- 48:37Speaker 2: Conniverer Dard goal was just fucking elite, like it was
- 48:40Speaker 2: such a nice goal. And then even the Oliver Moore
- 48:42Speaker 2: goal was a very very nice shot, uh left, he
- 48:45Speaker 2: coming down the right side, so so I think he
- 48:48Speaker 2: both of them high blockers. So every goal those two
- 48:52Speaker 2: high blockers. So maybe there's a little pre scout for
- 48:54Speaker 2: the for all the kids that and NHL players that
- 48:58Speaker 2: watched this show and listened to unscripted with Verkin n
- 49:01Speaker 2: Murs high blocker and Kata hat.
- 49:04Speaker 3: I missed the Katya Kata like I said.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Supportive crowd there by the way in Vegas, so just happened,
- 49:11Speaker 1: and the players too.
- 49:12Speaker 2: Players mobbed them after theatre.
- 49:15Speaker 3: Hugged there with Jack Eichel. It's nice to see.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he's really good in overtime and he stopped through
- 49:19Speaker 1: the four shots in the shootouts, so he's back.
- 49:21Speaker 2: He seemed really the humility and the gratitude that he
- 49:26Speaker 2: had after the game and his post game speech and
- 49:29Speaker 2: you know the first thing he said was just being
- 49:31Speaker 2: back with the guys and and you know, being supported.
- 49:36Speaker 2: So listen, it's it's been a tough road, and I'm
- 49:40Speaker 2: believing it at that, I'm touching that mots of.
- 49:42Speaker 1: All exactly meantime, this is unbelievable. Hockey areena in Milan's
- 49:46Speaker 1: last quarteen. Everyone's already excited for the Olympics. Are gonna
- 49:49Speaker 1: be back in the Olympics in February first time. This
- 49:51Speaker 1: is twenty fourteen. But the planned main arena for ice
- 49:55Speaker 1: hockey might not be ready in time. Construction on the
- 49:57Speaker 1: venues behind schedule. Organizers say there presently is no backup
- 50:01Speaker 1: plan if it's not completed in time. Bear in mind
- 50:04Speaker 1: Impics Staium in Montreal was not completed in time for
- 50:06Speaker 1: the mo opening ceremony of the nineteen seventy six Summer Olympics.
- 50:10Speaker 3: Interesting nugget. They're from tal Jady. You were in Italy.
- 50:13Speaker 3: You and Joe went there recently. Listen one thing about
- 50:15Speaker 3: the Italians. They're there with construction. It may not be
- 50:18Speaker 3: on time. I mean, what's the level of concern right
- 50:20Speaker 3: now with this?
- 50:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be. The walls are going to be
- 50:23Speaker 2: made out of like biscatti or something. I mean. The
- 50:28Speaker 2: quote of the Quote of the year by Andrea Francisi,
- 50:33Speaker 2: the chief operations officer for the Milan Courtina Winter Games.
- 50:37Speaker 2: There is no plan. B cannot cannot abort this idea.
- 50:44Speaker 2: We are fully invested in this. And on top of that,
- 50:49Speaker 2: they just the IHF approved the ice sheet one hundred
- 50:53Speaker 2: and ninety six point eighty five feet by eighty five
- 50:56Speaker 2: point three feet for all.
- 50:58Speaker 3: You nerds, smaller than the NHL rink.
- 51:02Speaker 2: But the NHL rate is two hundred feet by eighty
- 51:04Speaker 2: five feet, so it's point three wider, but it's one
- 51:08Speaker 2: hundred and nineties. It's four feet shorter, which might not
- 51:13Speaker 2: seem like much, but two feet on either side is
- 51:17Speaker 2: a big, big, big, you know. It's that's a big
- 51:21Speaker 2: piece of ice that gets taken away. That then I
- 51:25Speaker 2: think if you're I'm more look at it as I
- 51:28Speaker 2: think they'll get it done. I want to have positive
- 51:30Speaker 2: because I'm going to Milan to cover it for the
- 51:32Speaker 2: NHL network. I'll be boots on the ground. So you
- 51:35Speaker 2: better not, Andrea Franchisa, you better not take my pasta
- 51:38Speaker 2: away from me and my and my Apparol spritz is
- 51:41Speaker 2: and my Lemonceello spritzes and my negronies. You better not
- 51:44Speaker 2: fuck with that. But what I'll say is I think
- 51:47Speaker 2: this and disagree with me, guys, and I want to
- 51:50Speaker 2: hear your thoughts on this kind of right, but this
- 51:55Speaker 2: is oh maybe that yeah, it'd be a nice little no.
- 51:57Speaker 2: But does this change the way they go about bringing players?
- 52:02Speaker 2: Does this change the players that come to the construction.
- 52:06Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 52:06Speaker 2: It is a change of personnel, I don't think so.
- 52:08Speaker 1: I think they're just going, let's got our best guys,
- 52:10Speaker 1: the guys who are rolling right now. What I do
- 52:11Speaker 1: think is interesting is, as you said, every day there's
- 52:13Speaker 1: like a different conversation with a guy who may or
- 52:15Speaker 1: not be there, like Tom Wilson.
- 52:16Speaker 3: We were talking about to last night. Tom Wilson's got
- 52:19Speaker 3: to be there.
- 52:19Speaker 1: He's been unbelievable, a great power for he's been for
- 52:22Speaker 1: the Capitals, and I don't think he would have said
- 52:23Speaker 1: Tom Wilson's a lock a few months ago.
- 52:24Speaker 3: But now me and JD or Dane were like, we're
- 52:26Speaker 3: beating the drum right now for the shit shorter rink.
- 52:30Speaker 2: I had Mark Stone, I had Mark Stone off it,
- 52:33Speaker 2: and now that it's four feet shorter, I might have
- 52:35Speaker 2: him on it. That old bastard getting his legs up
- 52:37Speaker 2: and down the ice. Nice tal your thoughts magoo.
- 52:42Speaker 4: Well that's so, how does that effect, say, bringing in
- 52:45Speaker 4: celebrinian Bdard? I mean, there are two of the three
- 52:48Speaker 4: excuse me, top scoring players in the NHL right now
- 52:50Speaker 4: as we're recording this, So does I have going?
- 52:54Speaker 2: I swear to god last they got to be there.
- 52:56Speaker 2: They got to going. The last night I was watching,
- 52:58Speaker 2: I said, you gotta bring Benard. Fuck, he looks good
- 53:02Speaker 2: right now. I think you got to break up. I
- 53:05Speaker 2: just I listen. I know they snubbed him, and there's
- 53:08Speaker 2: some stuff, and I mean he's he's showing the character
- 53:12Speaker 2: and the resolve to be there. Maclin celebrity. I thinks
- 53:15Speaker 2: one hundred percent. If you don't have him there, your
- 53:17Speaker 2: your fucking nuts. But imagine a kid line. Oh my god.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Well the one thing you said last night brings Shaeffer
- 53:23Speaker 1: as well. You go eighteen years of age. Yeah, he
- 53:25Speaker 1: could play four Olympics.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd maybe have him there as my eight. You know,
- 53:31Speaker 2: I think the d is in as set as because
- 53:34Speaker 2: you look at like Pareco hasn't had the best year.
- 53:37Speaker 2: You know, Morrissey's obviously there. I think you're three for sure.
- 53:40Speaker 2: Your four for sures is probably Theodore macar Taves Morrissey
- 53:47Speaker 2: and then you you know, I don't know if you
- 53:49Speaker 2: can bring another left. You need to find some righty's.
- 53:51Speaker 2: You might see Weiger slide in there, but up front,
- 53:54Speaker 2: I think they just have such a it's gonna be,
- 53:57Speaker 2: you know. And then you want to bring Hagel, You
- 53:59Speaker 2: want to bring Sarelli back, you know, because John Cooper's
- 54:03Speaker 2: the coach. So if he brings Sarelli and Hegel, I
- 54:05Speaker 2: think Bennett's off the team. I think he replaces Bennett
- 54:07Speaker 2: with Wilson. But then if you bring Wilson and you
- 54:11Speaker 2: got the rest of the guys, well, then where does
- 54:13Speaker 2: Macklin and Bdard do you take? Do you keep Jarvis
- 54:16Speaker 2: off of it? So there's just so many there's so
- 54:19Speaker 2: many players right now that are having really good years
- 54:23Speaker 2: for this team. I just think you can't deny Maclin
- 54:27Speaker 2: and Connor Bedard right now. I just think they're too good.
- 54:30Speaker 3: Yeah, the kids are all right. A couple more topics
- 54:32Speaker 3: and we'll say goodbye.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Bittersweet moment for the man who was traded for Jason
- 54:35Speaker 1: de Burson twenty fourteen. Devil's defense from Brendan Dylon suiting
- 54:39Speaker 1: up in his one thousandth NHL game. This is Monday
- 54:41Speaker 1: night for getting hurt in a scrap with Dimitri verronkof
- 54:44Speaker 1: the Columbus Blue Jackets.
- 54:46Speaker 3: Dylan never drafted, but carved it a nice place in
- 54:48Speaker 3: the league.
- 54:49Speaker 2: Your thoughts, Yeah, undrafted. I mean that moment between him
- 54:53Speaker 2: and the UH one of the reporters that brought picture
- 54:56Speaker 2: of him and him saying just wanted to play one.
- 54:58Speaker 2: And that's that's the goal for most of us. We
- 55:00Speaker 2: just want to play one, and everything else is a
- 55:03Speaker 2: cherry on top, UH of the Sunday of life that
- 55:06Speaker 2: you've created for yourself. So Brendan Dylon, h he's a
- 55:10Speaker 2: great guy everything. Having met him, hung out with him
- 55:13Speaker 2: a little bit, I know a lot of people that
- 55:15Speaker 2: know him. I lived in his place when I got
- 55:17Speaker 2: traded between Dallas and San Jose. I think Dallas won
- 55:21Speaker 2: that trade. That's just me being biased. So it is
- 55:25Speaker 2: what it is. But I think we want it, you know.
- 55:28Speaker 2: And but he's he ended up withstanding the test of
- 55:32Speaker 2: time and outlasting me. But he's just a consummate pro
- 55:36Speaker 2: day in and day out. He puts on the work
- 55:37Speaker 2: boots and great family man. So all the credit to him.
- 55:42Speaker 2: I mean, it sucks that he gets hurt in the
- 55:43Speaker 2: game and gets Veronkov kind of took the took the
- 55:49Speaker 2: gears to him, and I was we were talking to
- 55:51Speaker 2: Daniel last night and they were saying they think it's
- 55:53Speaker 2: like his ankle, and I was kind of a weird place.
- 55:56Speaker 2: You never want to get hurt, and especially in your
- 55:58Speaker 2: thousandth game when you got all your family there. And
- 56:01Speaker 2: but hopefully he's okay and he stays healthy. I know
- 56:04Speaker 2: he had an injury last year, but hopefully stays healthy
- 56:06Speaker 2: and just a great career. Undrafted man, those are the ones,
- 56:10Speaker 2: you know, those are the special moments when you see
- 56:12Speaker 2: those undrafted guys. I was a seventh round pick.
- 56:14Speaker 1: You always give love this fellow seventh rounders, but it
- 56:16Speaker 1: got always drafted coalition.
- 56:19Speaker 2: It was undrafted for two and a half years. So
- 56:21Speaker 2: I almost got it. But you know that's me making
- 56:23Speaker 2: this about me and not about Brendan Dillon. So let's
- 56:25Speaker 2: get back to Brendan Dillon. Good job, Brendan, You're amazing.
- 56:27Speaker 2: We love you. Get healthy.
- 56:29Speaker 1: Last thought, I want to make this about you and
- 56:31Speaker 1: your dad. You want to clarify some of the details
- 56:33Speaker 1: your dad's trip slash Kerrie Underwood story, which a lot
- 56:36Speaker 1: of people were buzzing about on ig.
- 56:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's thank god the magic of editing it is,
- 56:41Speaker 2: you know, it is a viral clip right now. And meanwhile,
- 56:45Speaker 2: I butchered the whole fucking thing, which is just hilarious. No,
- 56:48Speaker 2: I didn't butcher it was. I mixed up the teams
- 56:51Speaker 2: and the location and the celebrity, but in essence, the
- 56:55Speaker 2: whole thing was the same. It was actually Lance Bass
- 56:59Speaker 2: and it was it was in Montreal. No, it was,
- 57:03Speaker 2: it was in Dallas. And the reason it was my
- 57:06Speaker 2: dad was walking with Jason Spetts's dad and my dad said,
- 57:11Speaker 2: I was ninety nine percent the story was right, and
- 57:13Speaker 2: he said it brought up so many weird feelings about
- 57:16Speaker 2: Carrie under what. He called me the next day and
- 57:17Speaker 2: he's like we were laughing, but he goes, I'm still
- 57:20Speaker 2: like upset about it. Years later he's like, I'm still
- 57:23Speaker 2: He's like, I'm still rattled, and he goes, here, I am,
- 57:26Speaker 2: you know, because my dad is you know, he's just
- 57:29Speaker 2: such a nice guy, and I think he doesn't expect
- 57:31Speaker 2: people to be reticent to him and be like, oh,
- 57:34Speaker 2: who's this fucking guy. But he's a big guy. He's
- 57:36Speaker 2: like he Jack works out every day, but he's like
- 57:39Speaker 2: a sweetheart. So it's like funny that, you know, some
- 57:41Speaker 2: people be like, who's this guy coming in here? But
- 57:44Speaker 2: the funny part that I forgot that he said he's
- 57:46Speaker 2: he goes, No, you forgot to mention. After the game
- 57:49Speaker 2: on the plane, he goes cause we were flying to
- 57:52Speaker 2: the next city and he goes. The guys were like
- 57:55Speaker 2: shit talking, chirping my dad on the plane and apparently
- 57:58Speaker 2: it's you know, and I remember bits and pieces of
- 58:01Speaker 2: it because Jason Spetz was on the plane being like,
- 58:03Speaker 2: you should have texted me, and I was like, because
- 58:05Speaker 2: he played with Mike Fisher knows, you know, would have
- 58:08Speaker 2: been able to get him in. And my Dad's like,
- 58:10Speaker 2: I gotta text you, Like what fuck do I know about?
- 58:12Speaker 2: Like He's like, I was just trying to say hi
- 58:14Speaker 2: and like maybe get a picture, and they're just giving
- 58:17Speaker 2: it to him. So my dad got a real taste
- 58:19Speaker 2: of like the NHL, of like being in the locker
- 58:20Speaker 2: room getting chirped by all the guys, and I was
- 58:23Speaker 2: loving every second of it. Was loving it.
- 58:27Speaker 3: It's a great story.
- 58:28Speaker 2: No matter what. He is the man fan of the show.
- 58:31Speaker 3: It changed my opinion carry quite frankly screw her man.
- 58:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, hey, like she sucks. There are some
- 58:37Speaker 2: people that did some people. There's a couple of comments
- 58:40Speaker 2: on the posts I put that was that you know
- 58:43Speaker 2: that was our self funded post that we edited ourselves. No,
- 58:46Speaker 2: you don't mention that it was self funded. Everybody knows
- 58:49Speaker 2: cost me money to get that edited self funded. But
- 58:55Speaker 2: some people were like, yeah, I've heard that about Carrie
- 58:57Speaker 2: Underwood that she's like, not she's car I'm gonna get
- 59:02Speaker 2: a defamation lawsuit against me. You can carry Andrew with
- 59:05Speaker 2: its people coming after me.
- 59:07Speaker 3: It's a great story regardless.
- 59:09Speaker 1: Thanks again to Jared's person, our special guest Dour NHL
