- 0:00I don't know the time around the tic tic.
- 0:02Just stare at Crispy. I'll stare.
- 0:04Yeah. Tick, tick.
- 0:05Tick's working great all right. Yeah, yeah.
- 0:08Shall we? Yeah, we have to look at the
- 0:10camera. Can we talk?
- 0:11We just. Talk.
- 0:12Just talking. Yeah, talking to these.
- 0:13I'll look at the camera and then I'll stare.
- 0:15At Pete Pete Stairs a carrot here, stairs at Crispy Crispy
- 0:17stairs are books. Books like the Camera.
- 0:20Ding Ding Ding. Why is?
- 0:21He doing here he. Went to Bendy they.
- 0:25Were here. This is good.
- 0:26This is the first. This is the intro.
- 0:40Welcome to another. Edition of the Predators
- 0:42official podcast here on ESPN1O25 the game and streaming
- 0:45on YouTube. I'm Brooks Bratton alongside my
- 0:48friends Max hers and Cara Hammer as always.
- 0:52And we were going to call them interviewees, but that's kind of
- 0:56ridiculous. They're more or less Co hosts
- 0:59this week. And before I introduce them, I
- 1:01do want to say so the Predator's Golden Hall, we know it was
- 1:04introduced last season. The first 3 inductees, David
- 1:07Poyle, Pecorine and Shay Weber. Shay has all these accolades in
- 1:11the Hockey Hall of Fame. Pekka's got a statue out front,
- 1:14he's got a banner in the building.
- 1:16David Poyle, the winningest GM in NHL history, he's got a
- 1:18banner in the building. But what?
- 1:20None of those 3 gentlemen have a restaurant and we are sitting in
- 1:25a restaurant named after Congratulations on a restaurant.
- 1:29Clue. This kid in, I mean, even Wayne
- 1:31Gretzky's restaurant closed. So it's only a matter of time.
- 1:36Yeah. Pete Weber and Terry Crisp.
- 1:38I got to ask before we really get into it.
- 1:40Is it weird to have your faces on a wall in a restaurant and a
- 1:44bar named after you? It's better than us personally
- 1:47being on the wall. Better being in the post office.
- 1:52Yeah, I wanted. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:55You're both the big scene. Oops.
- 1:57If your faces are going to be on the wall, that's probably the
- 1:59best spot for them. You know what it's I got to tell
- 2:01you, Pete, it's embarrassing sometimes because you'll have
- 2:04relatives command or friends command and sit down whenever
- 2:07you're the first thing. Really.
- 2:09Really. You 2 dough heads on the wall?
- 2:14Yeah, we do. Sure.
- 2:15Do. Like it or lump it, it's going
- 2:17to stay there. Well, that was quite an honor.
- 2:19Yeah, we've got another excellent honor coming up this
- 2:22weekend, the new inductees to the Predators Golden Hall.
- 2:25Gentlemen, congratulations. What does that mean to you?
- 2:29To be enshrined in Predators lore forever.
- 2:33Trying to make us cry, I mean. No, that's later.
- 2:37It's highly meaningful the the idea that those nights we spent
- 2:42in the arena tower teaching hockey one O 1, I guess they
- 2:46paid off for us. Crispy.
- 2:49Like he said, he said I could do that if I wanted Pete's.
- 2:54Yeah, we had a wonderful trip. It's been a great trip for PD
- 2:56and I. And this is sort of a nice cap
- 2:58off on it when you figure out First off that we're joining
- 3:01you, Mr. Poyle, Mr. Weber and Mr. Rene in there ahead of us
- 3:05that we feel that that's an honor in itself.
- 3:08And the other part is that we, when Pete and I will be there to
- 3:12be probably in my mind and met Pete's a little bit thanks to
- 3:15our fans because our fans from day one treated Pete and I like
- 3:20we're part of them. And that makes our job a lot
- 3:23easier, a lot more fun. And that's what Pete and I have.
- 3:27I'm speaking for my buddy here. I've had all along our journey
- 3:30fun. The question now is, is Yannick
- 3:33going in next year? We have to have a Weber a year.
- 3:36I like that idea. Sure, we can talk to some
- 3:38people. That's a great idea.
- 3:41What do you think? Former Fred's defenseman.
- 3:44Nobody more fitting. We'll get to so much more just
- 3:48about how things have evolved over time and when you started.
- 3:51I do want to ask though, because it was really cool how it was
- 3:53revealed that you would be going in.
- 3:56You thought you were doing a promo for this very bar, telling
- 3:59people to come get hammered, right?
- 4:00And all of a sudden. And no, no relation on you go.
- 4:05Take that personal care, please. And then all of a sudden, here
- 4:07comes Pekka. Yeah, you're like, all right,
- 4:10whatever, Peck. She shows up from time to time,
- 4:12but he says, hey, you guys like my gold jacket?
- 4:14Like, yeah, sure, whatever. But how about you like your own?
- 4:17When you started, this is nice. Beck could just come in and a
- 4:20nice come in from behind, like like the good old days when they
- 4:23just stepped up behind you and had a fun.
- 4:25I said Beck is really into it now he's talking.
- 4:29He says, yeah, I know there's anything different guys, but no,
- 4:31you look great, Beck. You're still in shape.
- 4:33Look like you. Yeah.
- 4:34You know anything different about you?
- 4:36No, you look younger, I guess. But he says no.
- 4:40Did you notice the colour of my jacket?
- 4:43It still didn't dawn on us what he's trying, what he's trying to
- 4:46tell us. Till poor Peck had to say, Hey
- 4:48you 2 dough heads, I'm here. Talking dense.
- 4:51Yeah, I'm here to tell you. What was you here to tell us?
- 4:54Going into the Golden Hall, yeah, just like him.
- 4:57So I guess we have to get taller.
- 5:01There's still time. Yeah, there's still time.
- 5:03No. Going back, I remember the day
- 5:06that they named this pub Pete and Terry's.
- 5:10You were outside, we cut the ribbon and you said 4 scores.
- 5:13And seven years ago, you and Crispy floated down the
- 5:16Cumberlands to Nashville. Looking back, I mean, what
- 5:21stands out the most about this journey being here?
- 5:25How it started and the guy who was really responsible for
- 5:28putting us together, Jerry Halper, the director of
- 5:31communications at the time. He knew me from our time
- 5:35together with the Buffalo Sabres.
- 5:36He knew Terry from their time together with the Tampa Bay
- 5:39Lightning. And while Terry never remembers
- 5:42me interviewing him when he was a coach either in Calgary or in
- 5:45Tampa, I obviously made a huge impression.
- 5:49Jerry felt that we would have good chemistry.
- 5:51I guess he was a pretty good chemist.
- 5:54So you knew crispy but crispy. No.
- 5:58No, because PD back then he he would like ask me some like
- 6:03intelligent questions and I can't answer.
- 6:05I'm only a coach. We don't answer it.
- 6:09So I I after I learned from Pete, I said, well, you know, he
- 6:12had a lot on my mind that day. Probably Yeah, he he went with
- 6:16that. But for the rest of the time
- 6:19through, it was yeah match. I sat down and come up to do one
- 6:27game. Right.
- 6:27Just. One Jerry Helper I said I'll
- 6:29come up. I owe you Jerry.
- 6:32Here's my I'm paying off my note come up shook hands with Pete
- 6:35sat down with them had fun, did the game cut up.
- 6:39Thank you very much way I went back to Tampa got a call from
- 6:44Mr. Diller and whatnot. Well, Terry, Jerry helper says
- 6:49crispy we're having a a double header in the weekend.
- 6:52We have, we're going to have somebody.
- 6:54I'll get somebody. Would you come back?
- 6:55I said, if I come back up to work with Mr. Weber, then you
- 7:00owe me. You.
- 7:01I got the note on you, he said, Yep, best move I ever made.
- 7:05Came back up, sat down again with PD.
- 7:07Mr. Diller said listen, we like your sort of your, what you have
- 7:11together, We'd like to use it. Would you like to stay into it
- 7:15by then, By then my wife Sheila, she was tired of me being
- 7:19hanging around the house. Anyways, a good way to Get Me
- 7:23Out of the house, but she gets a free write up with us every time
- 7:26we flew up to do the games. So it was just a fun, fun
- 7:30season. And you know that season Mr.
- 7:33Diller was still there and he said, you know, we'd like you to
- 7:36to you and Peter are a good combination and you'd like you
- 7:39to stay and sign. He says you know you can.
- 7:42You can commute if you want so. Cherry called his bluff.
- 7:44So I says to Mr. Diller being smart, I says, OK, Mr. Diller,
- 7:53you give me a three-year contract, I'll sell my house in
- 7:55Florida and move up here, OK? So he called the real estate
- 8:01company. Hun, Yeah, it's me.
- 8:03Yeah, we're selling. Sell the house.
- 8:07Why? That's my wife.
- 8:09Why are we selling the house? To come to Nashville.
- 8:13Because Jack Diller knew what he had.
- 8:15Because I guess Jack, yeah, he, he probably saw the camera.
- 8:19See that Pete and I enjoyed and we had fun and we've had it ever
- 8:23since. Was it instant or did you have
- 8:26to work at the chemistry like? I didn't feel like we had to,
- 8:29no. It just, it just flowed.
- 8:31And you see, people don't understand.
- 8:34I had the pleasure of working with three people who have and
- 8:38I, I call it a photographic memory.
- 8:39There's probably a better word for it.
- 8:41My opinion are Willie Dyke, Eli Gold, and this man right here.
- 8:49So you can imagine a dummy like me coming in and work with those
- 8:52three men. I was the smartest of the bunch
- 8:56because all I had to do was get this.
- 8:59All I had to do was start a question not knowing the answer,
- 9:04but hand it off to one of these guys who knew the answer.
- 9:07I looked like a genius. Hey, Christy knows how nobody
- 9:11figures this. I didn't finish it.
- 9:13One of these guys and PD was I'd look at him pointing finish it
- 9:17off and anybody out there who's listening, if anybody is, if you
- 9:22want a trivia and you know you have that thing where you want
- 9:26to make money and your phone and you say an answer, phone a
- 9:28friend, phone a friend. Those are the three guys I told
- 9:31you to phone if you want to win. Now if you to really illustrate
- 9:35though the chemistry, we start traveling together and Terry,
- 9:41Terry is getting his really first computers and he gets the
- 9:46computer and we check in the hotel in Costa Mesa and my cell
- 9:51phone rings and he goes, I just say, OK, Terry, what room are
- 9:54you? In the first thing is you got to
- 9:57plug it in. Where do I plug it in?
- 10:02Because I don't know. And honestly, Pete, people out
- 10:06there will know we're in that area now, but when I I am not
- 10:09very good on computers, I'm not very good on my phone.
- 10:12I never had been there with and with Pete alongside of me.
- 10:16It was a walk in the park, except I didn't have to do it
- 10:19because like I told you, I just nudged.
- 10:21Got the answer. And so one time, all the office
- 10:25staff, I understand. Yeah, I hate that Tick, Tick,
- 10:31tick. Then tick, tick.
- 10:33He said, what are you talking about?
- 10:35The tick, tick. And he says that thing right
- 10:38there that I said. I walked through the office and
- 10:41all I hear is. Tick, tick, tick.
- 10:46Tick tick. So I nicknamed it the tick Tick
- 10:49and it still fits all my grandchildren today.
- 10:51Coach, how you doing on your tick tick today?
- 10:55So you want to FaceTime he gets on a tick, tick, tick.
- 10:57I was. Going to say and 25 years later,
- 10:59how are you doing on a tick tick?
- 11:00I won't Pete now, but I got Pete's got my wife Sheila versed
- 11:06on it, so I'm OK. I just went to her.
- 11:09She does it. The only thing I can't figure
- 11:12out is how you E transfer money. Which is good.
- 11:17That's a good one. That's a good one.
- 11:21I don't know how you mean your money.
- 11:23You mean E transfer Venmo? No.
- 11:29Well, it was when he first tried to play Pay His Bills Online and
- 11:34you sort of misplaced the decimal point.
- 11:37What was it for the power bill? Yeah, instead of like $68, I
- 11:41think it was 6800. Took a long time to get it.
- 11:46Back they were like, thanks very much, Mr. Chris.
- 11:49Yeah, what a nice. Man, Pete Weber and Terry
- 11:53Crispar and guests on THE POP. We're going to take a break.
- 11:56Caller number five wins free electricity for the next three
- 11:58of the President's official podcast.
- 12:02Don't look at he was dangerous. Welcome back to the Predators
- 12:04Official Bible casts live from Pete and Terry's Tavern here at
- 12:07Bridgestone Arena. I'm Max Herz from Fred's Radio
- 12:10with Cara Hammer from Fred's TV, Brooks Bratton from
- 12:13nashvillepredators.com, and our two soon to be Golden Hall of
- 12:18Farmers, Pete Weber and Terry Crisp.
- 12:20The Predators broadcasters will go into the Golden Hall this
- 12:24Saturday, November 1st at the first intermission of the game
- 12:27against the Flame. So make sure everybody stays in
- 12:30their seats. We got to tell the people that
- 12:31first intermission. If you come in, folks, you will
- 12:33see I already have a golden blazer.
- 12:36It's up there from my Buffalo Sabres dates.
- 12:38No, he was selling real estate. Yeah, real estate, Jack.
- 12:41And he tells me it's for the Hall of Fame.
- 12:44No, I remember those commercials.
- 12:46That's what I was wearing when I met Claudia for the first time.
- 12:48Wow and a Sabres Quebec Nordics game.
- 12:52And you just hit your anniversary, which how many
- 12:54consecutive years? Thank you, Cal Ripken Junior 36.
- 12:5836 years in a row. Yeah, as you'd like to say, well
- 13:01done. No years.
- 13:02Old. Well, let's see though.
- 13:02Because you a man. Because Terry and you, have you
- 13:05talked how many, how many years here?
- 13:08For Sheila and I living here. No, no.
- 13:10No marriage. Married 60.
- 13:14Depends. They're sixty.
- 13:15Wow. Yeah.
- 13:17See. Well done.
- 13:17And I'm trapping for for Sheila because I outrun my coverage.
- 13:21Yeah. And when I go to do things and
- 13:25things and everybody says, well, you had a nice little, you know,
- 13:28yeah, livelihood. Krispy had a good dress.
- 13:30And yeah, I said, what? You player, coach, team, what's
- 13:34the secret to it? I said, you know what?
- 13:37In my mind, the secret to all you guys out there, if you're
- 13:40listening to me, you find a good woman, you marry her, and you
- 13:45damn well keep her. End of conversation.
- 13:49Yep. I lucked out with that.
- 13:52Well said. Yeah, that's, and that was also
- 13:56part of a letter you got from your Philadelphia Flyers coach
- 13:59that went out and told the the wives how to behave around the
- 14:03husbands. Oh, it's a classic.
- 14:06I still have it. Fred Shearer.
- 14:07I love the I had the pleasure of fortune, the good fortune to
- 14:11play for two of the best coaches ever in the game, Freddie
- 14:14Shearer and Scotty Bowman. Total opposites in their
- 14:17approach to the game. But Freddie was always thinking
- 14:19and he he always gave you the problem.
- 14:21He can give you the answer, he gave you the problem.
- 14:23But one time he sits down and writes this letter on all the
- 14:26wives. How to be the perfect wife.
- 14:30Perfect hockey wife. Perfect hockey wife and he puts
- 14:33it all down. I don't think I would read in
- 14:38the bottom he puts a little fine print.
- 14:42Next week I'll be sending the husband's letter.
- 14:44How to be the perfect husband. Never.
- 14:48I still have the one of the and it's hilarious.
- 14:53But this goes to tell you that you could still play coach and
- 14:57have humor. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:59Well, and you brought that here to Nashville and it's rare to
- 15:02find a day one employee, but you gentlemen essentially have been
- 15:06here since the very beginning. What do you remember, as you
- 15:09were just saying before we came back, we sit here in your
- 15:11Tavern, all these buildings out here, nothing was here was
- 15:14parking lots. There was a bus station over
- 15:16here and that was where the Music City Center is now, and
- 15:19that basically was it. Yeah, well, they had a hydro
- 15:21plant. Yeah, great, big, big in hydro
- 15:23plant. And I'm sitting every day at a
- 15:26grand look at that friggin hydro.
- 15:27They're going to move that thing that's electricity.
- 15:30That's are you going to move? Can't do that I think possible.
- 15:34Well, you made a $6800 donation, so they were.
- 15:37I wanted my money back before they left.
- 15:39I said before these guys leave town, I want my money.
- 15:41Back but it. Disappeared from from start to
- 15:47finish. Now this.
- 15:48The city has just blossomed. Everybody, anybody here has been
- 15:52here, and some for the better, some for not so good.
- 15:56But what? What is it?
- 15:58You have to either die. You either progress, show
- 16:00progress, or you die. That's right and.
- 16:03This city is not going to die. You have to put up construction
- 16:05cranes as many as you possibly can, and I think the high number
- 16:09we had was 37 cranes up simultaneously downtown.
- 16:14Here, I believe it. Talk to a businessman.
- 16:17I did talk to a businessman. Yeah.
- 16:19You all. Look, Chris, be the businessman.
- 16:22We're having a beer put that way in the pub and he was talking
- 16:26about he just bought land he was going to put up at whatever he's
- 16:28going to put up, like another high rise that would have them
- 16:30in. I said, oh good, good, yeah,
- 16:33when do you start? He said, I think about three
- 16:35years. I said maybe two.
- 16:38He said three. I said why would you, You've got
- 16:43the land. It's all there.
- 16:44He says, because I can't get any cranes.
- 16:47Those he talk. He says they're all we can't get
- 16:51them. They're leased out.
- 16:52They're all leased. So I said wow, but he did move
- 16:56it up a little. And the city hasn't stopped.
- 16:58It hasn't stopped. Let's go back to you guys being
- 17:01day one. I think most people, if you're
- 17:04new or if they're a new press fan, don't realize that when it
- 17:07started, you two were more more famous.
- 17:12The most of the players on on the team.
- 17:14What was that like? Were you recognized when you
- 17:17would go out in public? Did people start to realize, I
- 17:19mean, I have friends come to the game and they want to take a
- 17:21photo with Pete and Terry? It was scary going into Home
- 17:24Depot and looking for looking for replacement toilet seats,
- 17:29having people come up and say, I recognize that voice.
- 17:34OK. OK.
- 17:36So time and place very, very important to be certain about
- 17:40Any question about that. But yeah, Terry, remember we
- 17:43were, they had just opened the Hilton Hotel across the street
- 17:47and we were doing a talk show in the lobby and the show got
- 17:52kicked out because the people stay in the hotel rooms were
- 17:55angry about how loud we were. Yeah.
- 17:59Can you imagine the nerve of the All they do is come down and buy
- 18:02us a beer and everything would have been that.
- 18:04Would have shut us right up. Well, maybe those are the only
- 18:07people who were not thrilled to see you because I I feel like
- 18:10I've heard you tell the story, Pete, about your wife Claudia,
- 18:13saying what? Why are these people so nice?
- 18:15What do they want from us? Why are?
- 18:16They that was the big thing when we first got here.
- 18:19Now we had been in Buffalo, which is not a horrible town at
- 18:22all. It's a great city, but nobody
- 18:24would come up and just try to converse with you and ask you
- 18:28how things were going. And then, of course, we would
- 18:31have initially difficulty understanding through the accent
- 18:36what was being asked of us. But so, yeah, I'd go to Claudia.
- 18:40What do they want? What is it here?
- 18:42What's going on? Why are they being so darn nice
- 18:44and just turned out? Because they are so darn nice.
- 18:49I want to ask about broadcasting together.
- 18:52Are there any moments that stand out?
- 18:53I mean, we've seen some clips. Some moments.
- 18:59I was going to say some that were on the air.
- 19:01That's not fair. That's not fair.
- 19:03You've travelled with Pete and I, that is not for anything to
- 19:05You didn't get the pleasure yet before of doing that.
- 19:11But every trip was an adventure for us because we made it an
- 19:15adventure, whether it was like Pete trying to drag me to a ball
- 19:20game. Now that was a classic opening
- 19:23day in Saint Louis. Yeah, and I was not into ball
- 19:26really, you know, sorry people, but hey.
- 19:28Sorry, Blue Jays. In the World Series and all that
- 19:30Blue Jays there to the Jays apologize for it and so people
- 19:36would always we go to in we. Went to Saint Louis, went to
- 19:41opening day there. Yeah, opening day.
- 19:43Big deal. Well, I'll get in, right?
- 19:46He says. You got to come.
- 19:48I want to go and sit. The starting pitcher is a
- 19:50Canadian. But I said Jeff Francis.
- 19:52Yeah, I said, oh, really? A Canadian starting?
- 19:55He said, well, that'd be neat, see a Canadian kid throwing in
- 19:58the big leagues. It's good.
- 20:00I'll go sit. But the caveat was this.
- 20:04Pete says I'll buy all the beer and hot dogs.
- 20:06There you go. So we started out with eight
- 20:08beers and. 8 hot dogs and we had a couple other people with us.
- 20:13The lady that could run like a deer and forget her name now
- 20:17drank more beer and eat more hot dogs than any of us.
- 20:20It doesn't matter, but OK, I'm sitting in the stands in this
- 20:24Canadian picture because he's not that.
- 20:28Was it Francis, Jeff or Jeff? Jeff Francis.
- 20:29Jeff Francis. So he's throwing up when he's
- 20:33throwing it. Ball one, ball 2.
- 20:40He threw 11 or 12 straight balls.
- 20:44Yes. Without a pitch, a strike.
- 20:47Without a strike thinking. Yeah.
- 20:50This is who you are. So this this, this batter comes
- 20:53up named Pujols. Yeah.
- 20:55And he he was so mad that he reached.
- 20:58He hit one in his Ken High. He had to get a stepladder to
- 21:01reach up to hit it and broke this the thing it would have
- 21:04been 13 straight so. So we had the saunted.
- 21:09It starts to rain. It's raining.
- 21:13So what? We said, well, let's go under
- 21:15the thing. We'll.
- 21:16Still get more beers? More beer, more hot dogs and
- 21:18wait for it, Pete tells me because of the rules of
- 21:22baseball, after when we we we left, we didn't provide it
- 21:25because it's canceled. That didn't count against the
- 21:28pitcher that did not show up on his record.
- 21:31The Canadian boy through 12 St. And I've never met the guy, but
- 21:36I'd love to meet him one day somewhere just to tell him.
- 21:40So hold faith in you if. You if you know Jeff Francis,
- 21:43just send us at nashvillepredators.com.
- 21:46We would appreciate that because Terry really wants to be.
- 21:49Yeah. He's invited on Saturday.
- 21:51I felt bad for him, I did. We're in Pete and Terry Stavern
- 21:55with Pete Weber and Terry Crisp talking about the early days.
- 21:57Who are those early year preds who you guys love to get to know
- 22:01in the late 90s and the early 2000s?
- 22:04Well, really, you got to get right down to it.
- 22:05Thomas Wilcoon, who would never point his finger at anybody
- 22:10after giving up a goal, as opposed to one of year old
- 22:13teammates on the Blues. John Plunt, who wanted to point
- 22:16that out right away. Whose fault was what?
- 22:19And then captain Tom Fitzgerald. He ran a tremendous dressing.
- 22:25He did, he was he everything he'd want in a in a captain
- 22:29with, with the team, with the public, with kids, all of that.
- 22:33And we were blessed with a lot of these kids that came in and
- 22:36worked like you had like Scott Walker, Scotty Walker, He was
- 22:40afraid of nothing. He took more blows and more
- 22:43fights just with to save his teammates.
- 22:46When you look over the whole the whole line UPS of when we first
- 22:49started here and Trotzy had them, they were we were a
- 22:54machine that wasn't a great machine, but they were all
- 22:57together and every night and back then people and and my
- 23:02favorite buddy here vote for this is that if we had a goal
- 23:07lead going in to the third period, we win the game.
- 23:13Put your money down on the table.
- 23:15Our team dug in and our goalie dug in.
- 23:18We that sticks in my mind more than anything.
- 23:21Now as to those early teams going in.
- 23:25We felt comfortable. We got a one goal lead.
- 23:27We're going to slam the gate. If they don't get another goal
- 23:31and we don't have to score another goal, we win.
- 23:34So let's make sure they don't get another goal.
- 23:37Let's zero in on that and work for the rest of.
- 23:41It Do either of you have a favorite player here that you've
- 23:43cover? That is very difficult for me to
- 23:48pick out anyway. Yeah, You know what?
- 23:50There's so many that would be right like this.
- 23:52You love them and they were great hockey players, family,
- 23:55men, community, kids like that. We had a whole, and that's what
- 23:59made this team. The guys, they, they did things
- 24:02together. Like I, I remember the one year
- 24:04Trotsy, he took the whole team out to Fort Campbell.
- 24:08Yes. And then that sticks with me
- 24:10like anything. Even leggy.
- 24:13Went through it Yep. And we, you've probably seen the
- 24:16video maybe what do you call it? Video or whatever it is, right?
- 24:19The, they put the team, the, the, the soldiers out there that
- 24:24were in charge, put them through the training that they did.
- 24:28These guys, I mean, they're going through mud with barbed
- 24:31wire across them and shooting over the top of them, these
- 24:34guys. And these weren't slap shots.
- 24:36And those were bullets teams and the, and the, the military men
- 24:39out there were like, you're where you're, we're making you a
- 24:43team. There are four guys or six in a
- 24:45team. 6 I think. 6 to a team, and they laid the law down like
- 24:49no coach. But he says, and you know what
- 24:51we'll tell you is that you leave no man behind.
- 24:56I don't care what you're if you're going over the thing,
- 24:57you're going through the mud before you're done, you may your
- 25:01head count and every man better be on your team to go to the
- 25:04next leg. And they when our guys came
- 25:07back, they were so happy to come back and keep playing hockey.
- 25:11We're not going near that again ever.
- 25:14But that's what we had different who trust you thought of it.
- 25:19Campbell agreed with it. That's.
- 25:21That's. That's one of the things that it
- 25:25made them together. How have you seen the sport
- 25:29evolve? I mean, looking back, you think
- 25:33of of, you know, the Flyers probably bullied.
- 25:38Misunderstood youths. I love that podcast the Flyers
- 25:44alumni did during the lockout where Bobby Clark goes to other
- 25:50guys. We didn't fight that much.
- 25:55That just killed me, and it killed Claudia watching that
- 25:58too, I got to tell you that. But you're a group, and we had
- 26:05Frank Bae's daughter in here the other night doing the game back
- 26:08to Los. Angeles, OH did you?
- 26:09Yeah, and she was. I talked to her about Sam
- 26:12Carcini's book that just came out, Broadway Bullies and Broad
- 26:15St. Bullies, and that was she is
- 26:18going to go pick it up right now.
- 26:20Nice, nice. It was just an era.
- 26:22But you know what the funniest thing is?
- 26:25When we played, we got out the whole thing.
- 26:28Like right now to this day, I have men and women, elderly,
- 26:32young ones saying, oh, you were one of the bullies.
- 26:36You were Broad Street bully. Now that's back in the what?
- 26:38The 7475, That's that far back in all of hockey.
- 26:45I don't have anybody come to me and say, oh, remember the flying
- 26:47Canadians, flying French Canadians, the Montreal team who
- 26:52won 26 straight Stanley Cups? You don't hear that.
- 26:54You don't hear, oh, remember Bobby Orr and the Boston Bruins
- 26:58and all of them or so and so with the New York Rangers or go
- 27:02on down the line. No, you hear, oh, you're a Broad
- 27:05Street bully. Yeah, like.
- 27:07And that was just a huge. Badge of honor it.
- 27:10Got picked up and amplified and carried through all the years.
- 27:14And there's a good reason for it.
- 27:17I mean, I was with the LA Kings and we had lost thirty straight
- 27:21to Philadelphia and 30 straight games.
- 27:25And we played each other far more frequently then than you do
- 27:27now. And when it finally ended and it
- 27:30was at the Spectrum that it ended, there was just a
- 27:34celebration like you would not believe.
- 27:36And Jerry Koreb giving the Italian salute to the fans as he
- 27:39was going off the ice. It was very nice of.
- 27:42Him King Kong, but back in that era.
- 27:47But you know what it is and I I right now I love sports, but you
- 27:53got to have nicknames for sports guys.
- 27:57You got to. Are you going to go here now?
- 27:59But I'm just saying, in the sporting world, tell me how many
- 28:03nicknames you have in baseball. Do you have Slam and Sammy Sneed
- 28:06is golf or anybody like you know who?
- 28:09I love baseball now and I don't know baseball.
- 28:11The little guy catches for the Blue Jays.
- 28:14Kirk, is that his little? Yeah, sure.
- 28:17The first Mexican to hit a home run in the World Series.
- 28:20And up in his in this series, he stole second base.
- 28:23First time ever in his career. Yeah, I'll give him a standing
- 28:26ovation. They got to figure out a name
- 28:28for him. As he slid in head first, that
- 28:30measured on the Richter scale. Like, does does do the Titans
- 28:34have nicknames for any of their players?
- 28:35Like speedball so and so, or tank so and so or yeah, like
- 28:41here comes a Terminator on the field right now.
- 28:43Sis, we lost Javon curse. I don't know.
- 28:47I had King Henry. King Henry right that that may
- 28:50be the last. One, yeah, like when we had
- 28:52them, they were like Hammer Schultz and Bird Seleski and
- 28:57Hound Kelly and the Golden Jet, Bobby Hull and go on down of
- 29:04different teams had like, you know, sudden death.
- 29:07Mel Hill. Mel Hill sudden death.
- 29:10Because as soon as it was overtime, he always scored the
- 29:12sudden death goal. Why'd he call it sudden death
- 29:15though? Who shouldn't be sudden victory?
- 29:17I don't understand that when you never mind move it.
- 29:21Get a revelation. Here, never mind, move.
- 29:23We'll come, we'll come back and figure out an answer to that.
- 29:25Just a moment. That's fair.
- 29:26You are listening and watching to the Predators Official
- 29:28Podcast on ESPN1O25, The Game and YouTube back with Pete Weber
- 29:32and Terry. Chris, just a moment.
- 29:35Welcome back to the Predators Official Podcast on Brooks
- 29:38Bratton alongside Max Hurst and Cara Hammer and these two
- 29:41esteemed gentlemen. Turn around.
- 29:44That a good word. Thank you.
- 29:46Thank you. Terry Crisp, you know him,
- 29:49you'll love him. We are speaking with you
- 29:51gentlemen ahead of your Golden Hall induction.
- 29:54I had twice in a couple minutes. There might be some two guys
- 29:57behind. You surprised you the monster.
- 30:00Out there. That said, where Mark keep, I
- 30:03want to ask a little bit more about Nashville, but first,
- 30:06Kara, you had brought up there's a there's a great tread trade
- 30:09deadline story. I should have brought it up when
- 30:12we were talking about the tick tick because.
- 30:14Yeah, that's the. Back in the day at trade
- 30:17headline, nobody could text you or call you.
- 30:19Phone no tick ticks nothing. And I was, I'd just been traded
- 30:24from Saint Louis Blues to the islands their first year.
- 30:26So I was an original Islander that year and I think did we win
- 30:3012 games? 12 yes, but I don't think you
- 30:33were there for all. 12 and it was part way through the year.
- 30:37The movement is in the trade deadline, so we're playing this
- 30:40night in Detroit and that night after the game, the deadline's
- 30:43midnight for trading. You can't trade after that.
- 30:46And I was one of the senior guys on the team.
- 30:48So after the game in Detroit, we all went to the pub.
- 30:52There was a pub where all the. No Glendale AC.
- 30:54Glendale AC Club in Detroit. And we're sitting out there and
- 30:59I was and I said, OK, boys, this round's on me.
- 31:03I don't know, 11:30 and around there, this this round's on me,
- 31:07guys, because we made it. None of us got traded.
- 31:10We're home free. The kids, we don't, the wives
- 31:12don't have to go and find churches and schools.
- 31:14And that is great. We're staying together.
- 31:17So I walk up heading for the bar to buy the round and the bar
- 31:23phone rings and the bartender, Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 31:27Let me see, is there a crisp here?
- 31:31I'm walking towards the bar. I said, oh, I said that'd be me,
- 31:35a phone call for you. I said OK, and it was my coach,
- 31:41Earl. Earl Ingerfield, this is crispy.
- 31:43I said, Earl, this is crispy. Come on, back to the hotel.
- 31:47I said, Earl, just tell me where.
- 31:51Well, no, come on, I want to talk to you.
- 31:52But I said we traded you. I know that you don't phone me.
- 31:55Just I said where? He says, well, come back.
- 32:00I said, I'm buying a beer, round of beer.
- 32:03I'm going to my last beer with my player.
- 32:04Just tell me now so I can phone. Well, we traded you to
- 32:09Philadelphia. I says.
- 32:11You what? You traded me to Philadelphia,
- 32:13he says. Yeah.
- 32:13I says what? What the hell does Philadelphia
- 32:17want with me? He says.
- 32:18Damned if I know. There's a ringing endorsement
- 32:22right there. The.
- 32:24Training. Just get out.
- 32:26Just get going and get out. Oh, by the way, I did pay for
- 32:30the round of beer. I did.
- 32:32But there was a great story behind that.
- 32:34Terry was traded so that the Islanders could get Jean Pat
- 32:37Van, the older brother of the guy who they were going to take
- 32:41as the number one choice in that year's draft.
- 32:43That way, with the war with the World Hockey Association that
- 32:47was going on at the time, they figured Denny would then sign
- 32:51with the Islanders. So that was the background to
- 32:54all of that. Well, and that trade worked out
- 32:56OK for you, right? Hell yeah.
- 32:58You kidding me? It sure did.
- 33:00One of the best, one of the best things ever happened to me along
- 33:03the way. I mean, Freddie Cheryl
- 33:05remembered him from having him with the Buffalo Bisons in 1970
- 33:10and where they won the Calder Cup.
- 33:13Wasn't this the video that when Crispy's team had won the cup,
- 33:17somebody came out from the stands and got in the handshake
- 33:21line? Yeah, yeah.
- 33:23Not just one. The first, the first year they
- 33:26just flooded the ice. We couldn't move you, you you
- 33:30didn't skip the cover out because you couldn't get just
- 33:32there's no room get it back to the dress and it was safety
- 33:34before somebody stole it on there.
- 33:36Whatever. So, but there's a we did have
- 33:39the handshake line with the Boston Bruins and they're going
- 33:44through and it's thing, thing so many, many years later.
- 33:49My I'm here here and they're replaying all these things like
- 33:53they do in TV and replaying that game and that ending and that
- 33:57handshake. And my grandchildren phoned me
- 33:59and they said, hey, coach, who's that civilian in your handshake
- 34:04line with the bottle of champagne in the series?
- 34:06There's nobody in bottle of champagne in the line.
- 34:10Yeah, there is. Look.
- 34:12So I said no. So I phoned back to, you know, I
- 34:16said, find that thing and send it to me.
- 34:19Sure enough, here's a civilian kid, he'd be, I don't know,
- 34:23maybe 2020 some. And he's just right in the line
- 34:27with all of us, shaking hands, drinking, drinking the
- 34:31champagne. So I phoned and said, hey, find
- 34:34out who that kid is. Brad Mark was running them.
- 34:37So he put it all on TV there, the clip, everything.
- 34:40The guy said whoever knows who this was, if you get in contact
- 34:45with us and tell us the truth and who it was, we'll give you a
- 34:48tickets to the Gateway, blah blah, autograph jersey and
- 34:51whatnot. Never did find out who really,
- 34:54but nobody knew who this kid was.
- 34:56Yeah. Which cup was this?
- 34:59The first One Cup. So this is Philly.
- 35:00Yeah, yeah. So somewhere out there, somebody
- 35:03was in the handshake line, Yeah. Come forward with a bottle of
- 35:06champagne, yeah? With a bottle of champagne.
- 35:08Well, I also and I texted both of you about this at a random
- 35:12night this summer at about 2:00 AM NHL Network was showing
- 35:16Crispy's 89 Flames Cup footage with a fan who had won some sort
- 35:21of contest to rewatch the clinching game with you, and it
- 35:25was exceptional television. Yeah, I remember that.
- 35:28I didn't know I did it. I said, hey, coach, they got
- 35:33this thing. I said what Said I didn't do
- 35:34that. Yeah, you did.
- 35:36We've got video of you. So I didn't realize you did
- 35:39then, but back then you have incidents that people crop up to
- 35:43it and you, you never didn't realize you'd done it.
- 35:48Like one of my biggest Paux paws real quickly.
- 35:51But as coaches, you got to remember you're on the camera at
- 35:53all times. I'm playing in LA one night and
- 35:57we're getting hosed by the referees.
- 35:59I mean, hosed because we're in LA and Gretzky's paying for
- 36:03them. And I had enough of this referee
- 36:07and I was there. And so I start yelling at the
- 36:11referee. Hey, Rep, hey Rep, you're
- 36:16blowing it. You're blowing it.
- 36:18And I picked my tie up and held my tie in front of my nose so
- 36:22that he's you're you're blowing it.
- 36:25You're blowing it. I went viral that Crispy was
- 36:29blowing his nose on his tie. People find a Kleenex.
- 36:33People don't. Realize it when I had my tie, it
- 36:35was out here the camera shot, so I couldn't live that one down
- 36:40to. See if there had been three DTV
- 36:42then that never. Was why did you blow your nose
- 36:45off? I didn't blow my nose on my tie.
- 36:47Yeah, you did. We saw it, right?
- 36:49It's disgusting. So be.
- 36:50Careful. I remember Chris Cuthbert even
- 36:52asked you that one night. Yeah, but but you didn't do it.
- 36:57You do something stupid, you're going to pay for it.
- 37:00I I want to ask you guys about this because I know this was a
- 37:03big thing when you guys first started here was you talk about
- 37:07the game is new to a lot of people.
- 37:09They're used to football and baseball and that sort of thing.
- 37:12But the chalk talks and and the hockey one O ones.
- 37:15What were those like for you to to be tasked with no pressure
- 37:20but hey, teach the game to these?
- 37:22Folks, they, they were fun and I think the most fun we had was
- 37:26the night before the Handsome Brothers were here for Bud Light
- 37:29and Stevie Carlson. I knew from the King's days and
- 37:34I said, could you guys maybe remember that scene in Blazing
- 37:37Saddles? No, not that one, but where they
- 37:40burst into the commissary on the Paramount lot and coming, could
- 37:43you guys burst into our classroom like that?
- 37:45Stevie said sure, no problem. And boy, did that bug out the
- 37:48eyes of everybody in the that night when they did that.
- 37:52That was absolutely hilarious. We started in the Tower PD and
- 37:56we had first night maybe eight people came to our hockey one O
- 38:011. So we were really excited, 8
- 38:03people and six of them were ladies, six women.
- 38:06So we started and we found out that women were more interested
- 38:10in wanting to learn and figure out hockey than the men.
- 38:14So we told everybody Pete met with this.
- 38:16He says to them, he says, let's, let's just remember, he says
- 38:19that let's make sure the women, let's convince the women because
- 38:24if you get the women involved in sports, they're going to bring
- 38:27the others in, They're going to bring their husband, they're
- 38:29going to bring their boyfriends or that.
- 38:31But he says, he says, yeah, but not on the same night.
- 38:35Yeah, So that one went, but we did.
- 38:38Did you say that? We taught?
- 38:40We did. We taught them three goals as a
- 38:42hat trick, then I tried to sell them that four goals was the bra
- 38:45trick, but they that that didn't get accepted.
- 38:50What's not from that one? OK, you guys are here.
- 38:53You watch hockey. What do you think would be the
- 38:55toughest thing we had to try and teach?
- 38:58Icing. To the fans, yeah.
- 39:00OK, he said. Icing.
- 39:01Yeah. I would think maybe like penalty
- 39:06kill, man advantage, special teams.
- 39:07Penalty kill special teams pretty good last one.
- 39:11Line changes, yes. Changing on the fly and you.
- 39:14Know why? He knows that.
- 39:15He sat beside me and I told him these.
- 39:17I just want to make them look good at it.
- 39:19Line changes. They couldn't figure out line
- 39:22changes. And when you figure out how many
- 39:25sports NASCAR doesn't change in the fly, I know that they
- 39:30change. I don't change on the fly how
- 39:33many. And I thought lacrosse did.
- 39:35Lacrosse does. Yeah, so they do.
- 39:37Yeah, I. Don't think anyone in Nashville
- 39:39knew what lacrosse was in that correct 97.
- 39:41They thought it was a town in Wisconsin.
- 39:43Yeah, but I mean. But it was great and people
- 39:47would say, OK, that's a nice thing.
- 39:49That means when they shoot the buck way down there and the
- 39:51other gets there first. And we had a guy that was on
- 39:56closed circuit Bellsouth, AT&T rented out earpieces for people
- 40:02coming in for $5 a piece and a guy during stoppages in the
- 40:06play, would explain. What they had just seen, we
- 40:08called him the Reverend because he was always dressed like he
- 40:11was in black and talking to the people that way.
- 40:14But that was that was a very important thing.
- 40:18And the other big question that came up, why do you guys have
- 40:21two halftimes? Or could I get tickets on the 50
- 40:26yard line? Yeah, the 50 yard line.
- 40:30Well, so much of what you guys have talked about, whether it's
- 40:33the team setting, the culture early, you guys teaching the fan
- 40:36base, the way the Preds have grown over the years as
- 40:40Smashville was coined, Smashville hockey has become
- 40:44something and that was there from day one.
- 40:47What was it like for you guys watching that get established,
- 40:50watch it grow and where it is now, where the Preds are really
- 40:54one of the hottest tickets in town?
- 40:57It's been I I'd have to say something that makes you feel
- 41:00real good about what you've gone through and and maybe helped
- 41:04build without any question there.
- 41:07And to watch the kids coming in now and to see their eyes
- 41:12brighten up when they see things and the a parent brings his
- 41:15child up and said he doesn't know what it's like to have a
- 41:18town without hockey. I mean, he's.
- 41:21It the hockey is. I think when Pete Nipers came
- 41:23here, the minor hockey had 200 members maybe. 250.
- 41:27Maybe if they had that. And then how many of the high
- 41:30school teams 54? 3 high school.
- 41:33Teams, 3 high school teams, that's all that was here for
- 41:36hockey and they had an old timers one that was just but
- 41:41nothing. And then now we have I don't
- 41:44know how many thousands in thing we have women's hockey here.
- 41:47We have we send teams all over the country now to play in these
- 41:52biggest tournaments. That's how hockey has grown here
- 41:56due to the schools getting it. Then suddenly all the coaches at
- 41:59Wanda and the ex players that took the minor hockey kids.
- 42:03It's just this this city now is a city of, of what's the word
- 42:09I'm looking when you want to give it to me.
- 42:12Growth, destination or whatever. What destination city?
- 42:14Yes. For tournaments, the hockey
- 42:16tournaments, they have all the new rings that you put in here
- 42:19in the Ford Center. Ice was the one still, etcetera,
- 42:22etcetera. There's always tournaments of
- 42:25hockey in this city now. The best part of that, couple of
- 42:29summers ago, you will remember this, I got a call from Scotty
- 42:32Bowman and he said, you get that picture I just sent you and I
- 42:36go, yeah, I did, Scotty. It was a picture of the entrance
- 42:40to the Terry Crisp rink in Bellevue.
- 42:43So Scotty's daughter had brought his grandson to play here in a
- 42:47tournament. And so he said, OK, I got a
- 42:50question for you. I go, what's that, coach?
- 42:52If Terry Crisp has his own rink, why isn't he end there every day
- 42:57working on his skating? He holds a grudge.
- 43:01He's still, he's still my favorite buddy too.
- 43:03And he holds a grudge every time.
- 43:06And he'd love it. He'd still be chuckling about
- 43:08it. So those are the the good times
- 43:10and everything that makes Smashville amazing.
- 43:13What was it like now almost 2 decades ago when the Preds
- 43:16nearly left and what was your guys involvement in that?
- 43:19I was waiting to get my house painted, get it ready for sale.
- 43:23I was calling my former real estate partner in Buffalo saying
- 43:27it looks like we're going to end up in Hamilton, so that's a 40
- 43:31minute drive away. Let's get a new domicile there
- 43:35and get ready to commute. And Claudia was the same way.
- 43:39You know, I never thought we'd ever get that they would leave
- 43:43because I, I felt that First off, the person in Hamilton
- 43:47wasn't serious and he didn't have what they were.
- 43:49It was just a guy and Sky, I thought it was to begin with.
- 43:53And secondly, when they held rallies and the fans came out
- 43:58and we had ones. And the greatest thing is that
- 44:02when the guys who bought the team at that time, he sold the
- 44:08team, yeah. Mr. Mr. Leopold.
- 44:11Mr. Leopold, who was a great owner, by the way, I don't care
- 44:13what the people, he was great man.
- 44:15But when they sold the team and and Pete and I got talking to
- 44:18the new owner just after we've done it and we said to them had
- 44:23dinner with them and he said what what possessed you guys to
- 44:27buy this hockey club? It was going nowhere, doing
- 44:30nothing. It was heading out.
- 44:32And we said, and the one guy said, well, our our money
- 44:38manager told us to stay as far away as we could.
- 44:40Don't touch it. It's not a viable whatever.
- 44:44So we sat together, these men, the owners, and said we decided
- 44:49that if we let this hockey team leave, and if you let a
- 44:53professional sports team leave your city, your city's going to
- 44:55die. So Can you imagine how many
- 44:57people want to come here if you didn't have the Titans, the
- 45:00sounds, the Predators? National, Let's see now.
- 45:06That that keeps your city vibrant, that makes people want
- 45:12to come here on a weekend and see a football game, a soccer
- 45:16game, a hockey game, whatever, and golfing or whatever it is.
- 45:20That's what makes this city now look around just there's the
- 45:24evidence. For what?
- 45:25What got built down here? And I still remember that
- 45:28weekend. It was the Chicago Blackhawks on
- 45:31Saturday, the Chicago Bears on a Sunday, and there was no
- 45:36libation left. Or they set a record.
- 45:38Yeah, they they drank Broadway Drive.
- 45:41Yeah, that's a record. Hey, got to be proud of
- 45:45something. Sure.
- 45:46Come on guys of. Course.
- 45:49Sorry. Go ahead, Hammer.
- 45:51I have one more for Pete before we wrap this up.
- 45:54You talk about the fans in Broadway, the when the team
- 45:59clinched the Western Conference final, you said Go Ape.
- 46:04Yes, I did. Yes I did.
- 46:05And and they did. And they did.
- 46:08Where did that come from? That was inspired to me.
- 46:11I grew up a Saint Louis Cardinals baseball fan and that
- 46:14was a great call by Jack Buck. He didn't say go away, but Ozzie
- 46:19Smith hit the first home run of his career left-handed in the
- 46:22playoffs against the Dodgers and he just said go crazy folks, go
- 46:25crazy. Cardinals have wanted to score a
- 46:27three to two on a home run by the Wizard and hit it off one of
- 46:32the Landers sisters husbands. So so that was how that.
- 46:37And I still like it. Yeah, I still like it, Bubba.
- 46:39And didn't you live next door to Jack Buck?
- 46:41Yes, when he. Was your neighbor.
- 46:43Joe Buck came up to see when he was in town once for an NFL
- 46:48game, he came up to see. Chris, one night I met that, but
- 46:52my wife says he was on TV. We're in Saint Louis.
- 46:56My wife and I, she was watching TV and he was doing the stuff
- 47:00and whatnot. And she says hey, I know him.
- 47:02I said Sheila, you don't know him.
- 47:06I said no, I know that man. I said Sheila, please, this guy
- 47:10is somebody he is Jack, but I do know him.
- 47:15So about 3 days later, beautiful sunny day out and we were we
- 47:19lived in the condo and we had a nice play ground to the kids out
- 47:23there and they're playing a Sheila and it's just get out
- 47:25here. I want to see you for a minute
- 47:27outside the kids. But I come out and there's this
- 47:29man playing with my kids. She says I want you to meet the
- 47:32man. I don't know Jack Buck.
- 47:35He had a place, condo and whatnot, he says.
- 47:38OK, Hun. Well done.
- 47:39Well done, Sheila. You do know Jack, Mark.
- 47:42And now the Predators have line mates named Ozzy and Smith.
- 47:46Yes, that's right, everything goes circular, No question about
- 47:51that. We'll take a break, come back
- 47:52with one final segment for Pete and Terry before they go into
- 47:55the Golden Hall at the first intermission of this Saturday's
- 47:57game against the Calgary Flames here on The POP.
- 48:02Welcome back to the Editor's Official podcast.
- 48:04Carrie Hammer, Max Hers, Brooks Bratton, Terry W Be Clever.
- 48:09We're just flapping guys. That's.
- 48:11A little mis enthusiastic over here, she's ready to go.
- 48:15I'm ready to go. This is like our morning
- 48:16meetings. I would I would tell people like
- 48:18what do you talk about when you go to a morning meeting?
- 48:20I'm like well I cackle for the 1st 10 minutes.
- 48:23And then I. Come up with I'm going to
- 48:24interview because I've been sitting next to Terry, but every
- 48:28week I was telling you guys we do a big E person of the week in
- 48:31honor of our good friend Erin Donnick.
- 48:34As we know we just loved her so awesome.
- 48:37So that's. One of her favorite words.
- 48:39You're awesome. You're awesome.
- 48:41So this week our awesome. Person, you're Rockstar.
- 48:46That's your face, Yeah. Let's not use the rest of those
- 48:49words. It's going out to Clark Lee,
- 48:52head football coach over at Vanderbilt.
- 48:54Obviously a huge win by The Commodores this week, college
- 48:57game day in the house. But earlier in the week they had
- 49:00Clark invited Willie Donnick out and had him come to football
- 49:04practice. And at the end, he had Willie
- 49:08give the pep talk to the vanity football team.
- 49:11Which Willie was not expecting. It was not expecting so huge
- 49:15Congrats to Willie because we think, you know, the pep talk
- 49:19worked right, Obviously, obviously.
- 49:21But what stood out about Clark and and the wind was at the end
- 49:25of Willie talking, he shared some thoughts about Aaron.
- 49:29As we know, we we just love her. But he had every player say
- 49:33relationships are so important. And as we know we're a family
- 49:36here. Aaron was part of our family and
- 49:38he asked the vanity football team to to pick up someone they
- 49:41love or or not pick up, pick up the phone and call someone you
- 49:44love. And so, Clarkly, you're awesome.
- 49:47The Big E and the big dub so rock on with your bad self.
- 49:50Clark Lee and Clark Steve PD you are awesome and we wish Aaron
- 49:55could be here on Saturday. So do we special day.
- 49:57So do we. That would be very, very special
- 49:59for us. You said that was a straight
- 50:01face and you didn't even mean it.
- 50:03That was perfect. You're done.
- 50:05Good son. He's he's going to be a big
- 50:07salesman. I'm calling you, gentlemen.
- 50:09I'm going to do it one more time.
- 50:12I want to finish with this real quick.
- 50:14Your legacy. When you think about what you
- 50:18want to be remembered for, what comes to mind?
- 50:21Especially with this coming up this weekend?
- 50:24Just the fact, I think, that we helped guide a lot of people to
- 50:27have a lot of fun with the game with which they were not that
- 50:31familiar prior to all this. Yeah, I I'm like Pete.
- 50:35I just verifying was go heavy, strong, hard on the word fun.
- 50:41Everything's been fun, good, bad, indifferent.
- 50:45We spent 25 or more years here with a growing city and he, as
- 50:52an old man, is responsible. For it and you 2 had more fun
- 50:57doing it together than anybody had watching this team.
- 50:59I think that's safe to say. Yes, we did.
- 51:02We we thoroughly enjoyed it and we still enjoy it.
- 51:05Now for the people that the grandparents bringing their kids
- 51:08and that keep bringing them, please, because those little
- 51:10ones I see running around in our break every night, that's the
- 51:14bloodline. That's what we want here.
- 51:16I know we're running short on time, but our first year it was
- 51:20a Thanksgiving break and this couple came into the game.
- 51:24Obviously the wife was about to give birth and I didn't know if
- 51:27she gave birth that night or not, but so that was the
- 51:30Wednesday before Thanksgiving. On Saturday, they're back at the
- 51:33game with the little one. That's that occasion.
- 51:38Yes, it is. Well, it's been a heck of a run
- 51:41and you guys got a bar out of the deal, so it all worked out
- 51:44the. Way it was supposed to.
- 51:45Tips are accepted. You can come tip these guys.
- 51:48Yeah, or tip us over like we used to tip out.
- 51:51But we are so happy for you, we're so proud of you.
- 51:53It's going to be an awesome day on Saturday.
- 51:56So a 230 start against Calgary on Saturday here at Bridgestone
- 51:59Arena. And like we said, the first
- 52:00intermission, don't get up and go get your cotton candy and
- 52:03your funnel cakes. You got to stay in your seats.
- 52:06These two gentlemen are much more exciting than anything else
- 52:09going. On you guys can't get cotton
- 52:10candy either. You've got something to do on
- 52:14Saturday. No, So we're super excited to
- 52:16see that. Congratulations on making it
- 52:19into the Predators Golden Hall. We're so happy, we're so proud.
- 52:23What a pleasure and honor it is to know you both and and all.
- 52:27Serious. Because you know what?
- 52:28That in all serious and whatnot, you said that with a straight.
- 52:31Face, you taught me well. Thank you very much.
- 52:36We appreciate you guys. We we say we appreciate all of
- 52:39you people here and the ones that make the city is.
- 52:43Well, thanks to our whole crew here today filming in Pete and
- 52:46Terry's Tavern for a special show.
- 52:48Ethan Fleming, Hanna Ware, Nate Baker, Justina Quagliotta set
- 52:51this whole thing up. Pete, nice shirt.
- 52:54Yes. We'll see you in your Smashville
- 52:56finest and your gold jackets. I'm glad we had that memo where
- 52:59we knew what where to do. Yeah, yes.
- 53:01What a great episode, The POP special edition with Pete and
- 53:04Terry. We'll see you guys Saturday in
- 53:06the Golden Hall here in Stashville.
