Latest / Outspoken the Podcast / The Three-Way Feud & The TikTok Call Out
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Amy Torber and coming up on today's show, a micro-influencer
- 0:14Speaker 1: has called out podcasters Lucy Jackson and Nikki Westcott over
- 0:18Speaker 1: a festival run-in. A TikTok couple is facing backlash for
- 0:22Speaker 1: appearing to leave their kids unattended while they dined out
- 0:26Speaker 1: on a cruise. And our highs and lows of the week.
- 0:30Speaker 1: But first, old wounds have been reopened as a messy
- 0:33Speaker 1: three-way feud has broken out between the country's most controversial
- 0:37Speaker 1: reality stars. Former maths contestant Cyrel Paul is at war
- 0:42Speaker 1: with Sky Wheatley and Jessica Power after they shared their
- 0:45Speaker 1: thoughts on a viral clip of Cyrel's recent appearance on
- 0:49Speaker 1: The Amazing Race. Now, Soph, things have kicked off over
- 0:52Speaker 1: the last few days. But I want you to rewind
- 0:55Speaker 1: a bit to Cyrell and her partner Eden Daly's appearance
- 0:58Speaker 1: on The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race producers have struck
- 1:01Speaker 1: gold with this couple. They clearly knew what they were
- 1:04Speaker 1: doing by casting Cyrell and Eden because both of them
- 1:07Speaker 1: have appeared on reality shows before and they have both
- 1:10Speaker 1: brought fireworks to those shows. So Cyrell is no stranger
- 1:14Speaker 1: to controversy. She appeared on Maths in 2019 and she
- 1:18Speaker 1: quickly earned herself the title of Cyclone Cyrell. So she
- 1:22Speaker 1: made headlines when she threw a glass of white wine
- 1:25Speaker 1: in fellow maths contestant Jessica Power's face. She also found
- 1:29Speaker 1: herself at the receiving end though. And I had forgotten
- 1:32Speaker 1: this because Martha Califatita's She was on the same series.
- 1:35Speaker 1: This was the most iconic series of maths. And she
- 1:38Speaker 1: poured a glass of red wine over Cyrel's head at
- 1:41Speaker 1: one of the dinner parties. How did you forget that?
- 1:43Speaker 1: I think that was the most iconic scene that has
- 1:45Speaker 1: ever been in maths. I just didn't realise that they
- 1:48Speaker 1: were all on the same series. I mean, this was
- 1:50Speaker 1: five years ago. Well, her baby daddy, Eden, he also
- 1:53Speaker 1: has a fiery temper because when he appeared on Love
- 1:56Speaker 1: Island in 2018, he was involved in a scuffle with
- 2:00Speaker 1: Grant Krapp. So Grant? was coupled up with Taylor DeMere.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I can't even imagine the two of them talking now.
- 2:06Speaker 1: They won the show. Well, he, cause he turned out
- 2:08Speaker 1: to have a secret girlfriend.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 1: And at the time it was touted as a punch
- 2:13Speaker 1: up between Eden and Grant, but I went back and
- 2:16Speaker 1: had a look at the clip and no punches were
- 2:18Speaker 1: actually thrown, but they both grabbed one another by their shirts.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And there was a lot of swearing and yelling and
- 2:23Speaker 1: they had to be pulled apart by the other contestants.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I remember that the UK was also screening Love Island
- 2:30Speaker 1: Australia at the time. And everyone was so excited over
- 2:33Speaker 1: there because they'd never seen such a big fight in
- 2:36Speaker 1: the UK version. Yeah, I have never seen the UK
- 2:38Speaker 1: guys fight with one another. If anything, it's a bit
- 2:41Speaker 1: of a boys club and they always back each other up. Yeah,
- 2:43Speaker 1: there's like one fight and then they're like, sorry, mate. Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 1: no worries.
- 2:46Speaker 3: It's all good.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Well, The Amazing Race kicked off last week on Channel
- 2:50Speaker 1: 10 and it is airing on Sunday and Monday nights.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And it's safe to say that free-to-air TV has taken
- 2:56Speaker 1: a huge battering. And it's clear that the networks are
- 2:59Speaker 1: trying to draw in younger viewers, particularly by selecting contestants
- 3:03Speaker 1: that strike a chord with Gen Zers. Because we've seen
- 3:05Speaker 1: Gold Coast influencer Lily Brown and Jet Kenny on the show,
- 3:08Speaker 1: which I think is a fantastic move. Yeah, I haven't
- 3:11Speaker 1: tuned in yet, but seeing Lily Brown on there really
- 3:13Speaker 1: sparked my interest. And I think I may actually watch
- 3:15Speaker 1: it next week. Yeah, well, you can see that the
- 3:16Speaker 1: Amazing Race is working hard to get these younger viewers
- 3:19Speaker 1: in because they are sharing a lot of snippets from
- 3:21Speaker 1: the show in the form of reels, in order to
- 3:24Speaker 1: entice people to come and watch. Because I mean, I
- 3:26Speaker 1: always forget when the free to air shows are on.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And the Amazing Race Australia's Instagram account currently has 33,000 followers.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And they created their first viral moment by sharing an
- 3:37Speaker 1: altercation between Cyrel Eden and Ian Thorpe and his longtime friend,
- 3:42Speaker 1: Christian Miranda. I never thought that I would speak about
- 3:45Speaker 1: Ian Thorpe in the same topic as Cyrel and Eden,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but here we are. Let's throw to the clip. Were
- 3:52Speaker 1: you having a dig before, Christian, about us following you?
- 3:55Speaker 4: About what?
- 3:55Speaker 5: About us following you?
- 3:56Speaker 6: Were you having a dig?
- 3:57Speaker 2: No, why?
- 3:57Speaker 3: I thought you were.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure you were.
- 3:59Speaker 3: What did we say?
- 4:00Speaker 1: About us following you or something.
- 4:03Speaker 6: Oh, in the car?
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yeah, what was that? We made the wrong turn.
- 4:07Speaker 6: What are you talking about?
- 4:08Speaker 1: I'm talking about you being a smartass.
- 4:10Speaker 3: That's what I'm talking about.
- 4:10Speaker 4: We're not on maps.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 5: Yeah, and you ain't swimming right now either.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Tom.
- 4:16Speaker 1: But you're known as Ian Thorpe's friend. You're known as
- 4:19Speaker 1: Ian Thorpe's friend.
- 4:20Speaker 3: You're known as his mate.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Just so you know, Ian, it's not you. It's all him.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Thanks, babe.
- 4:27Speaker 6: Yeah, you're welcome.
- 4:28Speaker 2: You're welcome.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You got anything else smart to say, Christian?
- 4:30Speaker 2: No, I'm just going to keep making my boots.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't think so. Maybe when you don't know nothing,
- 4:34Speaker 1: you keep your mouth shut. That's what you should do.
- 4:38Speaker 2: You sidekick.
- 4:41Speaker 6: We could hear them carrying on. I'm not even buying
- 4:43Speaker 6: into it.
- 4:47Speaker 1: That was such a threat. Oh, my God, they're following us.
- 4:51Speaker 1: A bit rich of Cy Rell, who was on Maths, what,
- 4:53Speaker 1: five years ago, to be questioning the authenticity of one
- 4:57Speaker 1: of the other contestants. Yeah, that's the thing. It's quite
- 4:59Speaker 1: an unusual move from a reality TV contestant to demean
- 5:03Speaker 1: someone else over their celebrity status because generally in TV land,
- 5:07Speaker 1: it's reality contestants or influencers who are having to prove
- 5:10Speaker 1: themselves because generally they're viewed as having no talent and
- 5:14Speaker 1: that it's an easy ride because they've got these followers
- 5:16Speaker 1: that have just popped up out of nowhere. And in
- 5:19Speaker 1: this instance... Christian isn't the only amazing race contestant without
- 5:23Speaker 1: a profile because Peter Hellyer is on there with his wife.
- 5:27Speaker 1: There's Billy Brownless who was on there competing with his son.
- 5:29Speaker 1: So I just didn't understand why she was throwing around
- 5:33Speaker 1: her weight like this and trying to big note herself.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I mean, I love it. It's completely petty. It's great
- 5:38Speaker 1: for reality TV. I don't like it, though, because I
- 5:41Speaker 1: just think it was a really disrespectful way to speak
- 5:45Speaker 1: to Thorpey and also his friend Christian. Did you expect
- 5:47Speaker 1: much more from her? I didn't. She's well known for
- 5:50Speaker 1: throwing a glass of wine in someone's face. I didn't.
- 5:53Speaker 1: But I think that a lot of listeners like me
- 5:56Speaker 1: will have a reaction to this because this is a
- 5:59Speaker 1: gold medalist. It's an Olympian. He has done a lot
- 6:03Speaker 1: for our country. You mean his friend, though? Well, but
- 6:05Speaker 1: she was also directing it at Thorpey as well, saying, oh,
- 6:08Speaker 1: you're not swimming. I just think it was really disrespectful.
- 6:11Speaker 1: It was 100% disrespectful. But as I said, I would
- 6:14Speaker 1: not expect more from these two. They've been brought in
- 6:17Speaker 1: to cause drama like this and they're going to continue
- 6:20Speaker 1: throughout the whole series. Well, it did elicit a strong
- 6:23Speaker 1: response in the comments section and a majority of the
- 6:26Speaker 1: viewers were appalled by their actions. One wrote, embarrassing those
- 6:30Speaker 1: two are back on TV. Whilst another said she should
- 6:33Speaker 1: take her own advice. She is the one who needs
- 6:35Speaker 1: to keep her mouth shut because her mouth runs more
- 6:38Speaker 1: in this race than her feet so far. Whilst others questioned,
- 6:41Speaker 1: Who even is she? And why is she taking a
- 6:44Speaker 1: crack at Ian Thorpe, who is actually a celebrity and
- 6:48Speaker 1: an Australian legend? Well, I'm getting the vibe that maybe
- 6:51Speaker 1: Sky Wheatley is a Thorpey fan too, because this is
- 6:54Speaker 1: where she entered the chat. So she shared the clip
- 6:57Speaker 1: of Cyrel's argument on The Amazing Race on her Instagram
- 7:00Speaker 1: story and wrote, Cyrel is so scary, guys. I'm having
- 7:04Speaker 1: PTSD watching this from our little interaction we had with
- 7:08Speaker 1: a crying face emoji. She then appeared on her stories
- 7:12Speaker 1: from her Turkey hotel room where she was recovering from
- 7:14Speaker 1: a fox eye lift and said this.
- 7:18Speaker 4: If you guys don't know what I'm talking about, I'm
- 7:20Speaker 4: going to put the link to the video from the
- 7:24Speaker 4: interaction that we had. But I swear it was like
- 7:27Speaker 4: set up because the girl next to Cyril was already filming. Anyway,
- 7:32Speaker 4: I'm like not problematic.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Actually, yeah, you could say I'm problematic. Who fucking cares?
- 7:37Speaker 2: YOLO.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Um, but I was actually just asking her questions and I,
- 7:43Speaker 4: I didn't realize she would react like that. But then
- 7:47Speaker 4: after it happened, I was like, am I in an
- 7:50Speaker 4: episode of mass? Like it was crazy, but she ranks
- 7:53Speaker 4: great TV. I'm actually really excited to watch the amazing
- 7:57Speaker 4: race this year.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Now this interaction that Sky is referring to is a
- 8:03Speaker 1: fight that broke out between the pair at an influencer
- 8:06Speaker 1: event in 2022. And this event in question was ironically
- 8:10Speaker 1: for well-known mums to promote baby formula. So it just
- 8:14Speaker 1: seemed like a really innocent and wholesome event, but that
- 8:17Speaker 1: is not how the event went down. So to set
- 8:19Speaker 1: the scene, Cyrel was sitting in the middle of the
- 8:21Speaker 1: table and there were three people between her and Sky.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So Sky was at the head of the table and
- 8:27Speaker 1: she was chatting to all of the other girls and
- 8:30Speaker 1: she was somewhat broadcasting the conversation across the table. Yeah,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and things became heated pretty quickly when Sky asked Cyrel
- 8:37Speaker 1: if her relationship with Eden was genuine. And this is
- 8:40Speaker 1: because in 2019, Eden and Cyrel debuted their relationship through
- 8:45Speaker 1: pap photos. And at the time, many people speculated that
- 8:48Speaker 1: this was set up because It seemed like they were
- 8:51Speaker 1: trying to extend their 15 minutes of fame. Well, it
- 8:54Speaker 1: was a very random pairing because it's not like they
- 8:57Speaker 1: were both on maths or something. And I think everyone
- 8:59Speaker 1: was confused about where they'd met each other.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And what made matters worse is that following these photos
- 9:04Speaker 1: being published, Jessica Power came out and claimed that Eden
- 9:08Speaker 1: had asked her to be with him for publicity. And
- 9:11Speaker 1: she then claimed that Eden had been bagging out Cyrel
- 9:14Speaker 1: to her. And then suddenly, weeks later, they were announcing
- 9:18Speaker 1: that they were in love to the rest.
- 9:19Speaker 6: Of the world.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Well, even more shockingly, they announced five months into their
- 9:22Speaker 1: relationship that they were expecting a child together. So it
- 9:26Speaker 1: was a very hot and cold relationship. They ended up
- 9:28Speaker 1: breaking up during the pregnancy, and then they got back
- 9:31Speaker 1: together just before the child was born. Now, getting back
- 9:33Speaker 1: to this dinner party, there was a guest sitting next
- 9:36Speaker 1: to Cyrel who began recording the exchange. This made Sky
- 9:40Speaker 1: think that it was possibly set up. So Sky firstly
- 9:43Speaker 1: asked Cyrel how she met Eden. She then said, I
- 9:46Speaker 1: saw an article that said you guys had a fake
- 9:48Speaker 1: relationship for clout or something. Now Cyrel's response is muffled,
- 9:52Speaker 1: but it sounds like she told Sky it was inappropriate
- 9:55Speaker 1: to talk about what was in the newspaper.
- 10:00Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, you've got to learn that limit, babe.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Otherwise, I'm going to have to teach you.
- 10:04Speaker 1: See, yeah, you were... Yeah, yeah. You were getting really
- 10:09Speaker 1: upset about it.
- 10:10Speaker 3: But, like, if you.
- 10:12Speaker 5: Know the truth, babe, who cares?
- 10:15Speaker 2: I was just going to ask you that because I
- 10:18Speaker 2: wanted to know who said that.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm going to ask you, are your lips real?
- 10:22Speaker 6: No, that's inappropriate questions.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I don't need to ask that. Yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 6: Maybe it's my last bit.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Just know that.
- 10:28Speaker 6: Maybe it's my last bit. I will put you in
- 10:31Speaker 6: your place.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I will put you in your place.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I will put you in your place. Eat your food
- 10:35Speaker 3: or I'll shove your face in it.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So Sky clearly got an insight into what it's like
- 10:40Speaker 1: being on maths. Well, luckily no wine was thrown in
- 10:43Speaker 1: this incident, but this was almost worse. And I think
- 10:45Speaker 1: it's quite clear from the video that Sky was a
- 10:48Speaker 1: bit intoxicated because there were points where she was laughing. However,
- 10:52Speaker 1: when Cyrel started making threats, Skye looked genuinely scared. Yeah, well,
- 10:56Speaker 1: I remember talking about this on the podcast a few
- 10:59Speaker 1: years ago, and really the consensus from listeners was that
- 11:02Speaker 1: they felt sorry for Skye because Skye gets herself into trouble,
- 11:07Speaker 1: but I don't actually think she has a malicious bone
- 11:10Speaker 1: in her body. Now that we are all up to
- 11:12Speaker 1: speed on the drama, Cyrel was not happy with Skye's
- 11:16Speaker 1: comment about the amazing race, and she clapped back on
- 11:19Speaker 1: her Instagram story calling Sky a bully and accusing her
- 11:23Speaker 1: of being racist. She wrote, I'm so scary guys. This
- 11:27Speaker 1: is proving exactly what I mean. See, you need to
- 11:30Speaker 1: understand when I call myself crazy or someone I love,
- 11:33Speaker 1: I know it's a joke, but when it's coming from
- 11:35Speaker 1: someone I know who doesn't like me, I know it's
- 11:38Speaker 1: a backhanded compliment. That is why as a woman of color,
- 11:41Speaker 1: this portrays me as aggressive and violent and it's not okay.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Of course, a light-skinned woman is allowed to call another
- 11:47Speaker 1: woman of color crazy. But if a dark-skinned woman like
- 11:50Speaker 1: me called you a crazy shit-stirring bitch who only commented
- 11:53Speaker 1: to express a passive-aggressive comment, I would again be considered
- 11:57Speaker 1: as the aggressive, crazy, black bitch. She then shared a
- 12:00Speaker 1: promotional graphic that Channel 10 had sent out when Sky
- 12:04Speaker 1: won I'm a Celeb, and it explained how she was
- 12:06Speaker 1: donating her winnings to the charity Bully Zero. So Cyrel
- 12:10Speaker 1: wrote across this, amazing she picked Bully Zero as her charity.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Am I crazy or is that hypocritical? Well, it seems
- 12:17Speaker 1: like old feuds are being ignited left, right and center
- 12:20Speaker 1: in this story, because if you believe it, Jessica Power
- 12:22Speaker 1: also entered the chat. And as we mentioned at the
- 12:25Speaker 1: start of the segment, they're not exactly best friends. In
- 12:28Speaker 1: an interesting move, Jess came in to defend Sky. And
- 12:32Speaker 1: I was quite surprised to see this because Jess makes
- 12:35Speaker 1: a living off OnlyFans. And last year, Sky made really
- 12:38Speaker 1: offensive remarks about OnlyFans creators, which seemed to ruffle some feathers.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I mean, I think the only reason she came to
- 12:44Speaker 1: her defense is more out of her hatred for Cyrel. Yeah.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Because this all went down on So Dramatic's Instagram post.
- 12:51Speaker 1: So the publication was reporting on the story. And on
- 12:54Speaker 1: their Instagram account, they included a screenshot of Cyrel's comments
- 12:58Speaker 1: directed at Sky. Now, Jessica commented underneath the post saying, oh, mate,
- 13:03Speaker 1: give it a rest already. I'm not surprised Sky has
- 13:06Speaker 1: PTSD from her. She's as reactive as they come. She
- 13:09Speaker 1: will find an argument out of thin air, that woman. Well,
- 13:12Speaker 1: this story feels a little dirty and it's very much
- 13:15Speaker 1: in the weeds because Cyrel then took a screenshot of
- 13:18Speaker 1: Jessica's comment and called her out on her story saying, oh, Jessica,
- 13:23Speaker 1: the only person who should give it a rest is
- 13:25Speaker 1: you and your lying arse. Go start another GoFundMe page, bitch.
- 13:30Speaker 1: For someone who likes to run their mouth when the
- 13:32Speaker 1: only thing you seem to have run out of is money.
- 13:35Speaker 1: She continues saying, couldn't even pay for your dad's funeral.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Where's your money from OnlyFans? I was going to suggest
- 13:40Speaker 1: to sell one of your Prada bags, but if there
- 13:42Speaker 1: are anything like that, you're probably rocking a Prado. Still
- 13:46Speaker 1: a fake ass, irrelevant bitch trying to comment so you
- 13:49Speaker 1: can make headlines again. I hope me giving you attention
- 13:52Speaker 1: can rebuild your career. God knows you need the money.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Wow.
- 13:56Speaker 1: What a low blow mentioning the dad's funeral. Because that
- 13:59Speaker 1: comment is in reference to Jessica's brother, Rhys, posting a
- 14:03Speaker 1: GoFundMe page. And that was asking for assistance to pay
- 14:07Speaker 1: for their dad's funeral fees. I just think Sorrel's proving
- 14:11Speaker 1: Jessica's comment in the first place about how reactive she is. Exactly.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I mean, going back to this funeral, because we didn't
- 14:16Speaker 1: actually cover this story at the time. It just seemed
- 14:18Speaker 1: a bit off to be talking about it. Because a
- 14:20Speaker 1: lot of followers came out and questioned why Jess and
- 14:24Speaker 1: her brother, who earn large amounts of money off OnlyFans,
- 14:28Speaker 1: would have to ask for assistance with a funeral bill
- 14:31Speaker 1: because Jess reportedly makes $ 110, 000 per month on the platform.
- 14:35Speaker 1: So you think that she would be able to cover
- 14:37Speaker 1: those costs. Now, Jessica told the Daily Mail that the
- 14:40Speaker 1: whole family were pitching in along with the fundraising campaign
- 14:44Speaker 1: and that their dad passed away so suddenly that the
- 14:47Speaker 1: funeral did come as an unexpected cost. And she went
- 14:50Speaker 1: on to explain that her sister's fiancé, created the GoFundMe
- 14:54Speaker 1: before she even knew about it. So it seems like
- 14:58Speaker 1: the siblings were trying to raise money for what they
- 15:02Speaker 1: owed for the funeral. Yeah, it just all got very messy. Now,
- 15:05Speaker 1: as expected, Jessica clapped back at Cyrel's stories. She wrote,
- 15:10Speaker 1: not that it should even be something I should need
- 15:12Speaker 1: to address, but it was actually a family member who
- 15:14Speaker 1: started that page not knowing or asking who could contribute
- 15:18Speaker 1: or how much a funeral could cost. I would honestly
- 15:21Speaker 1: sell one of my handbags to get you the anger
- 15:23Speaker 1: management you need. Who brings up someone's grief as a
- 15:27Speaker 1: way of retaliation? Still the same bitter, horrible girl that
- 15:31Speaker 1: we all know. I don't care to stay relevant, but
- 15:33Speaker 1: you've done one TV show after however many years, mate.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Calm down. It was getting very tit for tat at
- 15:41Speaker 1: this stage. And so Raelle responded saying, Now Jessica's response
- 15:45Speaker 1: was the most classic out of all of them. So
- 15:47Speaker 1: she responded with a photo of her relaxing with a
- 15:48Speaker 1: glass of white wine and wrote.
- 16:11Speaker 1: See how I drink my wine, very aggressive, but not
- 16:14Speaker 1: over anyone's face when I can't win an argument with
- 16:16Speaker 1: a laughing face. And she continued, FYI, I don't normally
- 16:19Speaker 1: drink my wine like this, but apparently I'm broke. So
- 16:22Speaker 1: I wanted to savor it. I would love to see
- 16:25Speaker 1: Cyrel explaining this whole petty back and forth with Eden.
- 16:28Speaker 1: It kind of reminds me of like when we get
- 16:30Speaker 1: into an argument and our partners get involved and it
- 16:32Speaker 1: just sounds so ridiculous. Well, judging from him on The
- 16:35Speaker 1: Amazing Race, I think he'd just be backing her Whilst
- 16:38Speaker 1: I do really love the drama, I just think that
- 16:41Speaker 1: this all feels really gross and almost regressive to see
- 16:43Speaker 1: these women slinging shit at each other because it's not
- 16:46Speaker 1: like there's a healthy debate going on. It's literally them thinking,
- 16:50Speaker 1: what can I say that will cause the most upset
- 16:53Speaker 1: and be the biggest blow to that person and their
- 16:55Speaker 1: reputation going forward? We have to remember all of these
- 16:58Speaker 1: women were on reality TV for a reason. I really
- 17:01Speaker 1: just think it could be an attempt for all of
- 17:03Speaker 1: them to stay relevant. I know they're all accusing one
- 17:05Speaker 1: another of doing that. But they know what creates headlines.
- 17:08Speaker 1: They know how reality TV works. And they know that
- 17:11Speaker 1: producers are scouting for drama. And whilst they all do
- 17:14Speaker 1: look bad by association, it could help themselves land a role. Because,
- 17:19Speaker 1: I mean, we could see a maths reunion where we
- 17:23Speaker 1: get Martha, Jessica, and also Cyrel together to recreate some
- 17:27Speaker 1: of this drama. I would definitely tune into that. Well,
- 17:30Speaker 1: I don't know if it would be a maths reunion,
- 17:31Speaker 1: but can you imagine sticking them all in the Big
- 17:33Speaker 1: Brother house? Because it's just been announced that Channel 10...
- 17:36Speaker 1: have won back the rights to Big Brother and they're
- 17:38Speaker 1: hinting that they're going to bring it back to its heyday.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I would watch that. So Rel, Jess and Sky in
- 17:44Speaker 1: a house. But if they're bringing it back to its heyday,
- 17:46Speaker 1: we're probably just going to get everyday Australians. No, but
- 17:49Speaker 1: it's the format they're bringing back to the heyday. Well,
- 17:51Speaker 1: I saw Sky comment under it, please send me back
- 17:54Speaker 1: in the house. One thing I do know is that
- 17:56Speaker 1: The Amazing Race would be loving the attention around this
- 17:59Speaker 1: and the extra publicity they're getting from the show because
- 18:01Speaker 1: I will be tuning in on Sunday night for this.
- 18:05Speaker 3: The petty bitch that I am.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Put on my story saying the brand's name.
- 18:12Speaker 1: An Australian TikToker has taken aim at two popular influencers,
- 18:16Speaker 1: labelling them as bullies. During a Storytime Get Ready With
- 18:20Speaker 1: Me video, Ella Kemp accused the influencers of being rude
- 18:24Speaker 1: to her at a VIP event and for bitching about
- 18:27Speaker 1: her on their podcast. No, she hasn't flat out named them,
- 18:30Speaker 1: but she may as well have because she has dropped
- 18:33Speaker 1: so many clues that make the women easily identifiable. So
- 18:37Speaker 1: the influencers at the center of the accusations appear to
- 18:40Speaker 1: be Lucy Jackson and Nikki Westcott. It's a big week
- 18:44Speaker 1: for Lucy Jackson, isn't it? Yeah, it really is because
- 18:46Speaker 1: we spoke on Tuesday about how she's just gone through
- 18:49Speaker 1: a terrible breakup. But I want to get into the
- 18:51Speaker 1: accusations because they're pretty sensational. So on Tuesday, Ella told
- 18:56Speaker 1: her TikTok followers that she had been invited to a
- 18:59Speaker 1: festival back in 2020 when she was just 19. Don't
- 19:03Speaker 1: you love it how this drama from 2020, so almost
- 19:06Speaker 1: five years ago, is being brought up now? Yes, it
- 19:09Speaker 1: just screams TikTok pettiness, but I kind of love it.
- 19:12Speaker 1: So she said she was incredibly new to the social
- 19:14Speaker 1: media scene, being a micro-influencer, and was excited to attend
- 19:18Speaker 1: the VIP event. Now for context, Ella now has 90,000
- 19:21Speaker 1: followers on TikTok, and over 30,000 on Instagram. So she's
- 19:26Speaker 1: not incredibly well-known, but she's definitely an up-and-comer. So she's
- 19:30Speaker 1: still a micro-influencer. Pretty much, but her following has grown
- 19:34Speaker 1: since 2020. Now, Ella said she was a huge fan
- 19:38Speaker 1: of the influencers in question and would regularly buy from
- 19:41Speaker 1: their clothing brand. She also said she loved listening to
- 19:44Speaker 1: their podcast, so was really excited to see that they
- 19:47Speaker 1: were at this festival. This was really the first big
- 19:49Speaker 1: clue that she was talking about Lucy and Nikki, because they,
- 19:52Speaker 1: of course, have the Happy Hour podcast, and they also
- 19:55Speaker 1: have a very popular clothing brand called Jagger and Stone. Now,
- 19:59Speaker 1: Ella also went on to drop that the event was
- 20:01Speaker 1: full of Queensland influencers. And again, Lucy and Nikki both
- 20:05Speaker 1: live on.
- 20:05Speaker 3: The Gold Coast.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Now, as the night progressed, Ella said she had
- 20:09Speaker 1: one too many drinks and was attempting to socialize with
- 20:12Speaker 1: the other influencers who were in attendance. She said at
- 20:15Speaker 1: the end of the night, she was excited to see
- 20:17Speaker 1: the two influencers in question and approach them. Let's have
- 20:21Speaker 1: a listen to what Ella said went down.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Towards the end of the night, these two particular influencers
- 20:29Speaker 2: were there. I was just super excited to meet them
- 20:31Speaker 2: slash like, party with them. I just remember there was
- 20:36Speaker 2: this particular guy in their group that like I thought
- 20:39Speaker 2: was really cute. So I was kind of just like
- 20:41Speaker 2: dancing on my own and like just minding my own business.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Next thing I know, I turn around and I get
- 20:51Speaker 2: approached by one of these influencers, one of the two.
- 20:58Speaker 2: And she comes up to me and she says, babe,
- 21:02Speaker 2: Do you even know anyone here? And me being a 19-year-old,
- 21:10Speaker 2: fresh on the block, kind of never really been to
- 21:14Speaker 2: an event like that in my life before, especially being
- 21:18Speaker 2: like a fan of their stuff.
- 21:20Speaker 3: I was like, like I shit myself.
- 21:23Speaker 2: I think from memory I responded being like, yeah, like
- 21:29Speaker 2: I'm here with my friends, da-da-da. And she kind of just, like,
- 21:35Speaker 2: scoffed at.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Me and walked away.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I was literally traumatized from this. Like, I was so upset.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I'll never forget. I went over to my friend and
- 21:47Speaker 2: I was, like, pretty much in tears. Like, I was like, oh,
- 21:50Speaker 2: my God. Like, this individual just came up to me
- 21:55Speaker 2: and basically said, like, do I even know anyone here
- 21:57Speaker 2: as if, like, should I even be there?
- 22:00Speaker 3: I kid you not.
- 22:02Speaker 2: The rest of the event, this girl sat up on, like,
- 22:06Speaker 2: the top level of the, like, bar slash, like, grandstand
- 22:12Speaker 2: set up and, like, looked down on me and literally
- 22:17Speaker 2: death stared the shit out of me.
- 22:20Speaker 3: And I was so confused.
- 22:24Speaker 1: They say you should never meet your idols. I wonder
- 22:26Speaker 1: if she was hanging around like a bit of a
- 22:28Speaker 1: bad smell. Like, you know, when you're super excited to
- 22:30Speaker 1: meet someone and you don't play it cool. I mean,
- 22:33Speaker 1: it sounds like quite a mortifying interaction. Like if I
- 22:36Speaker 1: was a 19 year old and I met my idols
- 22:39Speaker 1: and one of them came up and said that to me,
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'd be pretty crushed. Yeah, well, following the incident, Ella
- 22:43Speaker 1: tried to put it down to a drunken miscommunication, but
- 22:47Speaker 1: her worst fears were realized when a friend messaged her
- 22:50Speaker 1: telling her to check out the girl's podcast because They
- 22:53Speaker 1: did one of those videos where they answered assumptions about
- 22:56Speaker 1: themselves and someone wrote in with the assumption that they
- 22:59Speaker 1: were rude to their fans. And Ella said she was
- 23:02Speaker 1: shocked to discover that the influencers had referenced her in
- 23:06Speaker 1: the episode. Here's what she said.
- 23:08Speaker 2: They start talking about me and they basically say that
- 23:17Speaker 2: The only time that they can think about that they
- 23:19Speaker 2: might have been rude to a fan was on the
- 23:23Speaker 2: weekend when one of the girls came up to me
- 23:26Speaker 2: and said that, like, do I even know anyone here?
- 23:30Speaker 3: Kind of like, fuck off.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Not to mention, they also said that I made them
- 23:38Speaker 2: uncomfortable and that I made their, like, immediate, like, circle
- 23:44Speaker 2: of friends feel uncomfortable and uneasy. Mind you, I am
- 23:51Speaker 2: 19 years old. These girls at the time were like 29,
- 23:57Speaker 2: 30 years old. And they were trying to make out
- 24:00Speaker 2: like I was making them feel uncomfortable.
- 24:04Speaker 3: I was absolutely shattered.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Isn't that your worst fear? Like, can you imagine meeting
- 24:12Speaker 1: someone that you really idolize? And then later on, you
- 24:15Speaker 1: hear on a podcast or in some sort of TV
- 24:17Speaker 1: interview that they had such a mortifying experience with you
- 24:20Speaker 1: and you like royally humiliated yourself. Yeah. Especially because Ella
- 24:25Speaker 1: said she'd been drinking. So maybe she'd been able to
- 24:28Speaker 1: convince herself, oh no, it wasn't that awkward. And then
- 24:30Speaker 1: it's literally just been confirmed. Well, I feel sorry for
- 24:32Speaker 1: her because it seemed like she was coming from a
- 24:34Speaker 1: place of just being in awe of the women. Didn't
- 24:37Speaker 1: seem like she was trying to be overtly negative or
- 24:40Speaker 1: rude to them or anything. Well, she was so upset
- 24:42Speaker 1: by this podcast recording that she ended up selling all
- 24:46Speaker 1: of her Jagger and Stone stuff. But she said when
- 24:49Speaker 1: she moved to Sydney later that year, she discovered that
- 24:52Speaker 1: she still had one of the brand's bikinis. However, she
- 24:55Speaker 1: noticed it was broken. So she claims she'd only worn
- 24:58Speaker 1: the bikinis once. And I quote, being a petty bitch,
- 25:02Speaker 1: she shared a photo of the broken bathers on her
- 25:04Speaker 1: Instagram story and tagged the brand saying they were shit.
- 25:09Speaker 1: We are in the weeds a lot of this episode,
- 25:11Speaker 1: are we not? It's a lot of petty driving. So
- 25:13Speaker 1: this then prompted the same influencer, Lucy Jackson, to write
- 25:18Speaker 1: back to her Instagram story saying, babe, that bikini is
- 25:21Speaker 1: two years old, to which Ella replied, babe, I've worn
- 25:24Speaker 1: it twice. Again, the babes, the passive aggressive babes. Now
- 25:28Speaker 1: let's have a listen to what else Ella said.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Like, sorry, I didn't realize that swimwear is meant to
- 25:34Speaker 2: break after like a few years. When you have a
- 25:37Speaker 2: business and you're selling like apparel, swimwear, anything like that, like,
- 25:44Speaker 2: especially at the price point that they had, like it
- 25:46Speaker 2: shouldn't only last a couple of years.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Like I've had so.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Many bikinis last me a decade and they've never once broken.
- 25:54Speaker 2: So that comment was a unnecessary. And I feel like
- 25:57Speaker 2: it was kind of targeted.
- 25:58Speaker 3: This person is like 30 years old.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Like get a grin to be fair even if you've
- 26:05Speaker 1: worn this bikini twice if you've had it kicking around
- 26:07Speaker 1: your house it's moved places with you i'm sure it
- 26:11Speaker 1: can get damaged really because i think bathers seem to
- 26:14Speaker 1: last for a really long time i mean maybe i
- 26:16Speaker 1: don't treat my stuff very well just throw it around
- 26:18Speaker 1: the house it also depends if you wash off all
- 26:21Speaker 1: of the chlorine anyway we're getting into the weeds here
- 26:23Speaker 1: but since this video has gone viral on tiktok so
- 26:26Speaker 1: at the time of recording it's had 200 000 views
- 26:30Speaker 1: The comments section has been littered with people tagging Lucy
- 26:33Speaker 1: and Nikki as well as followers sharing information about the
- 26:37Speaker 1: Happy Hour podcast in question. So I have tracked down
- 26:40Speaker 1: the episode from July 2020. So let's hear exactly what
- 26:46Speaker 1: Lucy and Nikki said about this incident.
- 26:50Speaker 5: You get annoyed when being approached by punters when you're
- 26:53Speaker 5: out and about with your friends.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Nah.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Okay, I will say this.
- 26:58Speaker 5: Absolutely not getting approached. Come and say hello. I fucking
- 27:01Speaker 5: live for it.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I love it.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Get a photo.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Have a yarn. That's absolutely fine.
- 27:06Speaker 5: What I do not like is then, and this has
- 27:09Speaker 5: only happened maybe like three times, so this isn't like
- 27:13Speaker 5: something that happens all the time.
- 27:14Speaker 1: And I think you know if you're doing it or not.
- 27:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't like it when people come over and,
- 27:19Speaker 5: and then stay and like join us kind of as
- 27:22Speaker 5: if then you're welcome because maybe they do come over
- 27:25Speaker 5: initially and we are really friendly then to then stick
- 27:28Speaker 5: around while we're there with our own friends maybe out
- 27:31Speaker 5: for dinner.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Or at a festival dancing with our group of our
- 27:33Speaker 1: friends or.
- 27:34Speaker 5: Whatever and then to keep hanging around and sometimes even
- 27:37Speaker 5: filming us or like filming yourself to try and act
- 27:40Speaker 5: like you're kind of like hanging out with us I
- 27:41Speaker 5: guess it's like come and say hello and Give me
- 27:45Speaker 5: a hug.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Have a little boogie. Get a photo. That's sweet as
- 27:48Speaker 1: they come.
- 27:49Speaker 5: Interrupt my night so then I can't really be talking
- 27:52Speaker 5: and spending time with my friends when I'm like just
- 27:54Speaker 5: genuinely on a night out with my friends.
- 27:56Speaker 1: That's when I get annoyed. And I think you know
- 27:58Speaker 1: if you're doing that. And if someone sort of says, oh, yeah,
- 28:02Speaker 1: you know. that'll do, run along. Like, do you have
- 28:05Speaker 1: any other friends here? That's not being offensive.
- 28:06Speaker 5: That's just us trying to get on with our night.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Well, that's what happened that time.
- 28:09Speaker 5: And that girl got really offended and was like, you know, blah, blah, blah.
- 28:13Speaker 5: And then a girl blew up at me and was like,
- 28:15Speaker 5: you are so nasty, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like,
- 28:17Speaker 5: I'm not nasty at all. But if you come over
- 28:20Speaker 5: and proceed to hang out with my group of friends
- 28:22Speaker 5: for like longer than 15 minutes and just kind of
- 28:25Speaker 5: try and blend in and no one knows who you are,
- 28:28Speaker 5: I didn't care if I have two followers on Instagram.
- 28:31Speaker 5: You're being annoying regardless of who I am.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:33Speaker 1: So piss off pretty much.
- 28:35Speaker 3: That's it.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Scram. Don't ever say you're welcome.
- 28:37Speaker 2: That's all.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I kind of get this because in the influencer world,
- 28:41Speaker 1: you're always hearing of micro-influencers or people who want a
- 28:46Speaker 1: following trying to leech onto bigger creators. And it would
- 28:50Speaker 1: piss me off if I was in Lucy and Nikki's
- 28:52Speaker 1: situation and I'm out with my friends and you've given
- 28:55Speaker 1: this person the time to And then they're trying to
- 28:58Speaker 1: sneak around and join your friendship group and potentially take
- 29:02Speaker 1: videos of you in a compromising position when you're drunk.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I think in this instance, this Ella, maybe she had
- 29:08Speaker 1: the best intentions and she just read the situation wrong.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Because can you imagine if you met, you know, some
- 29:14Speaker 1: podcasters or influencers that you really respected and you thought
- 29:17Speaker 1: you had hit it off, only to be told quite aggressively, like, scram,
- 29:21Speaker 1: fuck off, basically.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 1: I can kind of see both sides to it. Because
- 29:26Speaker 1: especially when alcohol's involved and lines are blurred, it seemed
- 29:30Speaker 1: to be that Ella was picking up the wrong cues
- 29:34Speaker 1: and maybe should have just realized to leave. Well, I
- 29:37Speaker 1: would have been offended hearing that if I was Ella, though. Oh,
- 29:40Speaker 1: I would be so intimidated by Lucy and Nikki. I
- 29:42Speaker 1: think they sound fucking funny, but I feel like I
- 29:45Speaker 1: don't like that sort of tone directed at me. Well,
- 29:47Speaker 1: the only thing is I think that someone like Lucy,
- 29:51Speaker 1: she takes no shit by the sounds of it. And it's, oh,
- 29:54Speaker 1: she sounds classy. Yeah. And it's quite apparent that she
- 29:57Speaker 1: felt like her personal boundaries were being crossed. And that's
- 30:00Speaker 1: why I think she just said, look, babe, do you
- 30:01Speaker 1: know anyone else here? Can you please leave? One of
- 30:04Speaker 1: our friends has said that she wishes she would spot
- 30:06Speaker 1: Lucy and Nikki out somewhere so that she could try
- 30:09Speaker 1: and party with them. And that seems to be something
- 30:11Speaker 1: that a lot of their listeners think. So they must
- 30:14Speaker 1: get it all the time and it must get really frustrating.
- 30:16Speaker 1: But I think that's why this girl was so disappointed
- 30:18Speaker 1: because they do put across this image of hey, come
- 30:21Speaker 1: party with us. We'll have a boogie. We'll have a
- 30:24Speaker 1: drink and everything like that. But it reaches probably a
- 30:26Speaker 1: limit where it's like, hey, this is the socially acceptable
- 30:29Speaker 1: point to leave. I know Abby Chatfield has spoken about
- 30:31Speaker 1: this in the past and she said that she's more
- 30:33Speaker 1: than happy to pose for photos and have a little chat. But,
- 30:37Speaker 1: you know, when she's out on a night out, she
- 30:38Speaker 1: actually wants to spend it with her friends and not
- 30:40Speaker 1: be interrupted the whole time. So these are good tips
- 30:42Speaker 1: if we ever spot Taylor Swift out and we meet her.
- 30:44Speaker 1: 15 minutes, that's the cap. And then I just fuck off.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 1: I think the timing though of this TikTok is really
- 30:51Speaker 1: interesting because as we spoke about earlier in the episode,
- 30:55Speaker 1: Lucy has recently broken up with her boyfriend after she
- 30:58Speaker 1: discovered he was cheating on her. And she's been very
- 31:01Speaker 1: open on TikTok sharing about her experience. And this has
- 31:04Speaker 1: garnered a lot of public sympathy. So it's interesting that
- 31:09Speaker 1: this video suddenly pops up just after this. Oh, Ella
- 31:12Speaker 1: is obviously riding on the coattails of this drama and thinking, well,
- 31:16Speaker 1: everyone's talking about the girls at the moment. Let's drop
- 31:18Speaker 1: this incident. It's going to get me a lot of
- 31:20Speaker 1: views and engagement. Well, interestingly, Ella actually said in this
- 31:24Speaker 1: TikTok that she was inspired to make the video after
- 31:27Speaker 1: randomly seeing another TikTok pop up where Lucy labeled another
- 31:31Speaker 1: podcaster a fucking bully. So this was the final clue
- 31:35Speaker 1: when I was like, this is clearly Lucy. Because earlier
- 31:37Speaker 1: this year, Lucy sparked controversy when she released a video
- 31:41Speaker 1: perceivably calling out podcaster Megan Passetto from So Dramatic. So
- 31:45Speaker 1: the two podcasters have had a lot of beef over
- 31:47Speaker 1: the last couple of years. Lucy and Nikki were accused
- 31:50Speaker 1: of making racist remarks towards Megan. And interestingly, Megan has
- 31:55Speaker 1: a connection to Ella. Side note, I really hate when
- 31:58Speaker 1: people throw around the term bully at everyone to describe
- 32:02Speaker 1: a journalist working or investigating stories. Yeah, it's not good.
- 32:06Speaker 1: On the topic of Megan though, so Ella actually appeared
- 32:10Speaker 1: on one of So Dramatic's podcasts back in 2022. And
- 32:14Speaker 1: so she spoke about how she was in a relationship
- 32:17Speaker 1: with former maths contestants, Jackson Loney and Jack Miller. And
- 32:21Speaker 1: this was quite a controversial episode because Ella was the
- 32:23Speaker 1: first person Jackson was connected to after his high profile
- 32:27Speaker 1: split from fellow maths contestant, Olivia. And in this episode,
- 32:31Speaker 1: Megan described Ella as the chaos queen. And I think
- 32:35Speaker 1: that's a good description after seeing this TikTok because she's
- 32:37Speaker 1: obviously not afraid to stir the pot, which I love.
- 32:40Speaker 1: It was a really good episode. Well, it's an interesting connection,
- 32:43Speaker 1: isn't it? Because Megan is obviously not a huge fan
- 32:46Speaker 1: of Lucy and Nikki either. And I saw a lot
- 32:49Speaker 1: of people actually tagging Megan and So Dramatic in this
- 32:53Speaker 1: TikTok as well. And Ella responded, look, Megan is well
- 32:56Speaker 1: aware of this incident. Is this going to be another
- 32:59Speaker 1: three-way feud? There's been so many feuds popping up on
- 33:02Speaker 1: TikTok at the moment and I am here for the entertainment. Well,
- 33:05Speaker 1: I get it as well because let's be real. This
- 33:07Speaker 1: is the influencer world. And if you create drama, it
- 33:10Speaker 1: equals views. The one thing I felt really uncomfortable about
- 33:14Speaker 1: during Ella's call out though was the constant age bashing
- 33:18Speaker 1: of Lucy and Nikki. And maybe this is because I'm
- 33:19Speaker 1: in my 30s. But the continual reference to their age,
- 33:22Speaker 1: I thought it was a bit unnecessary and it kind
- 33:24Speaker 1: of came across as age shaming. So you sent me
- 33:27Speaker 1: the clip and I think it had the text and
- 33:30Speaker 1: it said 30-year-old podcasters have bullied me. And I thought,
- 33:35Speaker 1: holy fuck, is this about us? And then I was like,
- 33:38Speaker 1: why the fuck do they have to mention our age?
- 33:39Speaker 1: I mean, this is probably how Lucy and Nikki felt
- 33:41Speaker 1: as well because the age is irrelevant. It's kind of
- 33:44Speaker 1: like saying, oh, well, they should know better because they're
- 33:47Speaker 1: in their 30s. Yeah, well, I just can't wait to
- 33:49Speaker 1: see if Lucy responds. I don't know if she will.
- 33:52Speaker 1: I feel like she's got a bit more shit going
- 33:54Speaker 1: on in her life. I think if she's to respond,
- 33:55Speaker 1: she'll probably respond on her podcast in a similar fashion
- 33:59Speaker 1: to the first time they spoke about the incident. But again,
- 34:01Speaker 1: I don't think she wants to give Ella the attention
- 34:04Speaker 1: or clout.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Hey, everybody.
- 34:06Speaker 6: We usually would not be making a video like this,
- 34:08Speaker 6: but there is information circulating about us that is completely untrue.
- 34:13Speaker 1: A US TikTok couple is facing backlash for appearing to
- 34:17Speaker 1: leave their kids unattended in their cabin on whilst they
- 34:20Speaker 1: dined out at a restaurant during their family cruise. Now,
- 34:23Speaker 1: the couple in question, Matt and Abby Howard, have been
- 34:26Speaker 1: forced to issue a statement refuting the claims. Sophie, before
- 34:29Speaker 1: we get into it, can you bring us up to
- 34:31Speaker 1: speed on who Matt and Abby are? Yeah, well, they're
- 34:33Speaker 1: two TikTokers who are very much selling the American dream.
- 34:37Speaker 1: So they're Christian, they're high school sweethearts, and they've got
- 34:40Speaker 1: two kids called Griffin and August. That is so American.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:45Speaker 1: They are from Phoenix in Arizona and they share very
- 34:47Speaker 1: curated family moments as well as insights into their very
- 34:51Speaker 1: traditional marriage. And they also recreate a lot of viral
- 34:54Speaker 1: trends on TikTok. Now they have over 7 million subscribers
- 34:58Speaker 1: on YouTube and it's basically a family channel where they
- 35:01Speaker 1: blog about their lives. They also have 5.3 million followers
- 35:05Speaker 1: on TikTok and a podcast called The Unplanned Podcast. where
- 35:09Speaker 1: they discuss their relationship as well as their family dynamics.
- 35:12Speaker 1: And they're no strangers to controversy. So they have been
- 35:15Speaker 1: slammed previously for their views on traditional gender roles in
- 35:18Speaker 1: the house. So Abby handles most of the cleaning and
- 35:21Speaker 1: raising of the children. And in a now deleted video
- 35:25Speaker 1: from 2022, Matt surprised Abby by taking care of the
- 35:28Speaker 1: house and their newborn child. So this video copped a
- 35:31Speaker 1: lot of criticism because people said it was perpetuating the
- 35:34Speaker 1: trope of the hopeless dad who can't raise his own
- 35:37Speaker 1: kids or has the capacity to clean. It reminds me
- 35:39Speaker 1: a little bit of all that controversy with Matty J
- 35:41Speaker 1: last year. Now, another controversy involved Matt making his own
- 35:46Speaker 1: homemade baby formula. And at the time, he added a
- 35:49Speaker 1: disclaimer saying that you shouldn't actually give it to your baby.
- 35:52Speaker 1: But critics argued that it was dangerous and could encourage
- 35:55Speaker 1: people to try it out at home. And this year,
- 35:58Speaker 1: he copped criticism for boycotting Father's Day. So on his podcast,
- 36:02Speaker 1: he spoke about how instead of celebrating on the official
- 36:05Speaker 1: date in America, he planned to celebrate it on a
- 36:08Speaker 1: separate weekend because Father's Day fell very close to his birthday.
- 36:12Speaker 1: And the year prior, he'd done a joint Father's Day
- 36:15Speaker 1: and birthday celebration, but he didn't want to do it
- 36:17Speaker 1: again this year. I think that controversy is... be weak though. Well, yeah,
- 36:21Speaker 1: because people were saying, oh, he's entitled and it's a
- 36:25Speaker 1: red flag because he's demanding two separate days that celebrate him.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I think they were pretty unfair with that one.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Now this is where the latest controversy has erupted because
- 36:36Speaker 1: in September, the family embarked on a seven night cruise
- 36:39Speaker 1: with Abby's extended family and they shared highlights of their
- 36:43Speaker 1: holiday on their Instagram accounts. Now, Abby revealed at the
- 36:46Speaker 1: beginning of the trip that they were eating out as
- 36:49Speaker 1: a family, but it wasn't really working. She wrote on
- 36:52Speaker 1: her Instagram story, so we ended up taking them for
- 36:54Speaker 1: five nights and it became apparent that they weren't enjoying it.
- 36:58Speaker 1: And therefore, we weren't either. This is obviously the children.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:02Speaker 1: So then we switched our dinner time to after their bedtime. Now,
- 37:07Speaker 1: in this Instagram story, she shared this caption over the
- 37:10Speaker 1: top of a baby monitor that and continued to write,
- 37:13Speaker 1: we FaceTimed the monitors while we ate and that worked
- 37:16Speaker 1: out much better for everyone. She then added that the
- 37:19Speaker 1: baby monitors don't work on board unless you're only five
- 37:22Speaker 1: feet away, explaining they needed to FaceTime the monitors to
- 37:25Speaker 1: get it on their screens. And this elicited a huge
- 37:28Speaker 1: response from their followers. Many took to Facebook gossip forums
- 37:32Speaker 1: and also Reddit posts to share their concerns. One follower said,
- 37:36Speaker 1: so clearly they have paid no attention to the Madeline
- 37:39Speaker 1: McCann case, While another said, this is incredibly upsetting, especially
- 37:43Speaker 1: as they had family with them that probably could have
- 37:45Speaker 1: watched them while they were out and had something to
- 37:47Speaker 1: eat together. FaceTiming the baby monitor while several floors away
- 37:51Speaker 1: when anything can go wrong in that time span is
- 37:54Speaker 1: just incredibly distressing as a parent. Now, others went as
- 37:57Speaker 1: far as calling it negligent and raised issues around what
- 38:01Speaker 1: if a medical emergency happened or an abduction or a
- 38:04Speaker 1: child went wandering and fell overboard. Now, following the backlash,
- 38:08Speaker 1: Abby swiftly removed the story and provided no explanation. But
- 38:13Speaker 1: the couple broke their silence about this incident on Tuesday
- 38:17Speaker 1: by releasing a TikTok video, which at the time of
- 38:20Speaker 1: recording has had 9 million views. So Matt started by
- 38:24Speaker 1: saying they wouldn't usually create a video like this, but
- 38:27Speaker 1: there is information circulating about them. It isn't true, so
- 38:30Speaker 1: they wanted to set the record straight. They said they're
- 38:33Speaker 1: very protective of their kids and love them more than
- 38:35Speaker 1: anything in the entire world. They also thanked their followers
- 38:39Speaker 1: for being concerned about the safety and well-being of their kids.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Watching this, it's clear that they have a PR team
- 38:44Speaker 1: that they're working with because they were trying to sound
- 38:46Speaker 1: very understanding to the critics. They also began by explaining
- 38:51Speaker 1: that they went on the cruise with Abby's extended family
- 38:54Speaker 1: and that the kids were never left alone at any
- 38:57Speaker 1: time during the cruise. Here's what they said.
- 39:00Speaker 6: And people started to speculate and believe that we had
- 39:04Speaker 6: left our children alone in their staterooms. And that is
- 39:08Speaker 6: just completely untrue because we had someone with our children
- 39:11Speaker 6: at all times on this boat, period.
- 39:14Speaker 4: I do want to clarify that we have not, would not,
- 39:17Speaker 4: will not ever leave our children unattended. We would never,
- 39:21Speaker 4: ever want to put them in harm's way in any way.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Abby then explained that she could see how her story
- 39:27Speaker 1: could have been misleading, which is why she deleted it.
- 39:30Speaker 1: it straight away. Now, Abby and Matt clearly knew that
- 39:33Speaker 1: many followers would question, well, if you had people babysitting
- 39:37Speaker 1: for you, why then did you have to FaceTime the
- 39:40Speaker 1: baby monitor, which I think is a fair enough question. Now,
- 39:44Speaker 1: Abby went on to explain that her kids always sleep
- 39:47Speaker 1: in a sort of blackout tent. And in the middle
- 39:50Speaker 1: of the tent, there's a spot for a sound machine
- 39:53Speaker 1: and also a spot for a baby monitor. So she
- 39:56Speaker 1: said that even when they sleep in the same room
- 39:58Speaker 1: with their kids at home, they always have their monitors
- 40:01Speaker 1: on so that they can watch what's happening in the tent.
- 40:04Speaker 1: So she said that even though they were tag teaming
- 40:06Speaker 1: with a family member at dinner, they wanted to have
- 40:09Speaker 1: that extra precaution of watching them on the baby monitor
- 40:12Speaker 1: as well. This seems odd to me. Why are you
- 40:15Speaker 1: having your kid in this blacked out tent that you
- 40:17Speaker 1: can't see them? Well, the whole thing sounds like a
- 40:20Speaker 1: bit of bullshit. They probably sat around and were like, fuck,
- 40:22Speaker 1: we look so irresponsible. I mean, as one of their
- 40:26Speaker 1: followers pointed out, all I could think of was the
- 40:28Speaker 1: Madeleine McCann situation. Have we not learned anything from that? Well,
- 40:32Speaker 1: it was quite interesting because their comment section on the
- 40:35Speaker 1: TikTok video was full of people praising them. So I
- 40:39Speaker 1: don't know if it's been highly edited. So one follower wrote,
- 40:42Speaker 1: Great explanation. I also think it's lovely that you thank
- 40:45Speaker 1: people for caring and being concerned rather than getting on
- 40:48Speaker 1: the defense. Perfectly articulated. And that comment received 5,000 likes.
- 40:53Speaker 1: But it doesn't make sense why they'd share that Instagram
- 40:56Speaker 1: story because it's kind of like they were having a
- 40:58Speaker 1: laugh about it. It really does seem like they're changing
- 41:01Speaker 1: their story now because they weren't expecting such a big
- 41:04Speaker 1: reaction from their followers. The The bit where they lost
- 41:07Speaker 1: me is when they didn't name which family member was
- 41:10Speaker 1: looking after the kids because initially in the TikTok, Matt said, oh, yeah,
- 41:15Speaker 1: we were with Abby's extended family and we had everyone
- 41:19Speaker 1: there from the great-grandmother to the kids. They didn't explain
- 41:22Speaker 1: all the other people. And then when they said, oh,
- 41:24Speaker 1: it was someone looking after a child, they didn't say
- 41:26Speaker 1: which family member. And I think that's because they were
- 41:29Speaker 1: probably concerned that during their trip they may have put
- 41:32Speaker 1: up a photo of a dinner which showed all of
- 41:34Speaker 1: the family there or maybe– They think that they're so
- 41:37Speaker 1: famous that someone would have taken a photo of them
- 41:39Speaker 1: on that night out for dinner and they might get
- 41:41Speaker 1: caught out in some way. Great PR by their team though.
- 41:45Speaker 1: A lot of people said they also didn't buy the
- 41:47Speaker 1: body language in the video. Someone said that the eye
- 41:50Speaker 1: contact screamed guilty. I love how everyone becomes a body
- 41:54Speaker 1: language expert as soon as these influencer apologies come out.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Let's get into our highs and lows of the week.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And I'm going to kick things off with a very
- 42:02Speaker 1: embarrassing low that I almost didn't want to bring to
- 42:05Speaker 1: the podcast.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Now, I'm all ears.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Well, you persuaded me to bring this one up because we, well,
- 42:12Speaker 1: I got my full wedding video back and I'd forgotten
- 42:16Speaker 1: some of the funny things that you mentioned in your speech.
- 42:18Speaker 1: And one of those things, a lot of OG listeners
- 42:21Speaker 1: will remember. And that is that a couple of Christmas
- 42:24Speaker 1: Eves ago, I went to Aldi wearing a very thick
- 42:28Speaker 1: green fake tan, like the tan had gone off. I
- 42:34Speaker 1: I quickly put on some shorts and unbeknown to me,
- 42:37Speaker 1: the shorts were inside out. Well, you thought everyone was
- 42:40Speaker 1: staring at you at Audi because of your atrocious fake tan,
- 42:44Speaker 1: but it was actually because of your shorts and the
- 42:46Speaker 1: shorts had inbuilt undies. So you literally looked like some
- 42:49Speaker 1: kind of strange superhero. Yeah. So that was mortifying. And
- 42:53Speaker 1: I thought that I'd moved past those sort of incidences,
- 42:56Speaker 1: but apparently not. At 35, still mortifying. Still doing it.
- 43:00Speaker 1: So I went shopping with my husband. We went to
- 43:04Speaker 1: rush into Woolworths, pick up a couple of things. We
- 43:07Speaker 1: got back, I was unpacking the groceries and I lifted
- 43:11Speaker 1: my arms up in the cupboard and my husband said,
- 43:13Speaker 1: what is that poking out of your pants? And somehow...
- 43:18Speaker 1: There was a sheet of toilet paper that had been
- 43:19Speaker 1: hanging out of my pants. I didn't realize you'd been
- 43:21Speaker 1: to the shops with this. So Brandon said he initially
- 43:25Speaker 1: thought that it was like a folded up tissue that
- 43:28Speaker 1: maybe I'd put there because if I had a runny nose,
- 43:31Speaker 1: but no, it was toilet paper. And then I went
- 43:34Speaker 1: to bed that night and my partner lifted up the
- 43:37Speaker 1: covers as he does always to check for spiders because
- 43:39Speaker 1: we live in the hills. And he noticed that there
- 43:42Speaker 1: was a piece of toilet paper attached to my foot.
- 43:44Speaker 1: So I do not know what is going on with
- 43:46Speaker 1: me at the moment. Anyway, my high of the week,
- 43:48Speaker 1: it will be a quick one. It has been spending
- 43:50Speaker 1: time with my nephew, Jack. He is so cute. He
- 43:53Speaker 1: is officially three months old and we went on a
- 43:55Speaker 1: very sweet walk together. He's in that stage where he's
- 43:59Speaker 1: smiling at you and laughing and he is just so cute.
- 44:02Speaker 1: He's adorable. So my low of the week has been,
- 44:05Speaker 1: I have finished all of my favorite Netflix shows. I'm out.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I have nothing to watch. So I was hoping that
- 44:12Speaker 1: some outspoken listeners could slide into our DMs. Maybe we
- 44:15Speaker 1: could start a thread in our Facebook community. I want
- 44:19Speaker 1: a list of great shows that you and your partner
- 44:22Speaker 1: will enjoy because it's really a struggle to find shows
- 44:25Speaker 1: that I like and that Dale likes. And my high
- 44:28Speaker 1: of the week is I finally got around, what is
- 44:30Speaker 1: it now, like September? Nine or seven months after my wedding,
- 44:34Speaker 1: I finally gotten around to printing my wedding photos and
- 44:38Speaker 1: I've printed two quite large pieces. I don't know how
- 44:41Speaker 1: the listeners feel about having such large wedding photos in
- 44:44Speaker 1: your house, but I've seen Quite a few people do
- 44:46Speaker 1: it where they select one really cool photo, which is
- 44:48Speaker 1: what I've done. Well, you've selected two, haven't you? Well, two, yeah,
- 44:51Speaker 1: but just one of Dale and I, I mean. Oh,
- 44:53Speaker 1: so yeah, the other one is of the bridal party. Look,
- 44:55Speaker 1: unpopular opinion here, and I apologise if you have one
- 44:58Speaker 1: of these in your house, but when I think it
- 45:00Speaker 1: verges on tacky is when people get them printed on canvases.
- 45:03Speaker 1: I don't know why, but I'm just not a fan
- 45:05Speaker 1: of the canvas. I think that's very early 2000s. So
- 45:08Speaker 1: I've got them printed from this local printer in Adelaide
- 45:11Speaker 1: and I've I've had photos in my house printed from
- 45:15Speaker 1: him before. He's really, really good. It's on this beautiful paper,
- 45:18Speaker 1: but I'm trying to find the right frames. I got
- 45:20Speaker 1: some from Freedom previously, but they don't have the exact
- 45:23Speaker 1: ones anymore. Do you know when I think it is
- 45:25Speaker 1: too far with wedding photos? Is when they're the huge
- 45:29Speaker 1: focus of your house and your wedding was like 20
- 45:31Speaker 1: years ago. Because, you know, when you've just been married,
- 45:34Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, it's nice to put up your photos.
- 45:36Speaker 1: But you kind of think, well, what's next? Like, have
- 45:38Speaker 1: you achieved anything else in your life? Is there anything else?
- 45:40Speaker 1: That's so rude. No, but I'm saying like, you know,
- 45:43Speaker 1: most of the time it's taken up by, you know, well,
- 45:46Speaker 1: not that a holiday is an achievement, but by other
- 45:48Speaker 1: things you do in your life, whether you have kids
- 45:50Speaker 1: or whether. I think it's nice. I think it's nice.
- 45:52Speaker 1: I think what happens, though, is when people get older,
- 45:54Speaker 1: the photos become outdated. And yet you've got the canvas printer,
- 45:57Speaker 1: it can look a bit tacky. But maybe I'll have
- 46:00Speaker 1: to share a photo on my Instagram story when I
- 46:02Speaker 1: get them up. I think they're going to look really cool.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Sophie's a bit gutted because I have this photo of
- 46:07Speaker 1: all of the bridal party walking along this gravel path. Yeah,
- 46:10Speaker 1: and the only one you chose is literally half my
- 46:12Speaker 1: face cut out of it. Yeah, it was unfortunately because
- 46:14Speaker 1: Sophie kept pulling all these weird faces when she was
- 46:18Speaker 1: having this very animated conversation. So the only one we
- 46:21Speaker 1: could feature was one where.
- 46:22Speaker 3: She was kind of hidden.
- 46:23Speaker 1: That is not true. There was one of me normal. Yeah,
- 46:25Speaker 1: but the rest of the four other people were cut out. Well, anyway,
- 46:29Speaker 1: you're in it. Everybody is in it. I don't mind
- 46:32Speaker 1: not being the focus of it. I think it's quite funny. Anyway,
- 46:35Speaker 1: I think that's all we have time for today. We
- 46:38Speaker 1: hope you enjoyed today's episode. If you did, it would
- 46:40Speaker 1: really help us out if you could leave us a review,
- 46:43Speaker 1: preferably a good one. Preferably five stars. And I want
- 46:47Speaker 1: to point out, somebody left us a review recently saying
- 46:50Speaker 1: that they were frustrated because the ads were being inserted
- 46:53Speaker 1: into the wrong spot. Look, to be honest, when I
- 46:55Speaker 1: listened back, it was very annoying. And I fired off
- 46:57Speaker 1: a message to you being like, what is going on
- 46:59Speaker 1: with the ads? I just want to flag that we're
- 47:02Speaker 1: on a program called Omni and they've recently done an update.
- 47:06Speaker 1: And I pride myself on perfectly placing the ads And
- 47:10Speaker 1: I don't know what's happened because on my end, it
- 47:12Speaker 1: shows that the ads are placed in that spot. It
- 47:13Speaker 1: seems to have thrown them out by a few seconds.
- 47:15Speaker 1: So I do apologize to anyone who that has affected
- 47:18Speaker 1: and irritated. This episode was recorded on the traditional land
- 47:21Speaker 1: of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. We pay
- 47:24Speaker 1: respect to elders past and present. And if you haven't already,
- 47:26Speaker 1: we had a special episode drop on Monday where Kate
- 47:30Speaker 1: returned to give us an update on the fourth trimester.
- 47:33Speaker 1: And tomorrow's subscriber episode is one I think that a
- 47:36Speaker 1: lot of you will want to tune into. we answer
- 47:40Speaker 1: some questions that we previously haven't been allowed to answer
- 47:43Speaker 1: before because Kate has directed us not to. So we
- 47:46Speaker 1: open up about some feuds, some miscommunications in the podcast industry,
- 47:51Speaker 1: and yes, a lot of juicy stuff. So you've got
- 47:53Speaker 1: to check that one out.
