- 0:00Deuteronomy chapter 10, we're still going through our study in
- 0:02the book of Deuteronomy, but we're trusting that's going to
- 0:06be a life-changing word regardless, even though we're
- 0:09going through a chapter by chapter, we still believe that
- 0:12it is living and has something for us right now.
- 0:17Let's pray one more time, okay? As we, as we do this together,
- 0:19father in Jesus name, Many people in here, might be
- 0:23exhausted after conference. And in coming here, in the
- 0:27beginning of the week to work, or to go to school below.
- 0:30We're here. And we need another touch even
- 0:32though we were touched last week and we still need fresh bread.
- 0:36We can't survive a day without you.
- 0:38So Lord, we just pray for total Clarity Precision, Lord, freedom
- 0:43from confusion, and even more a conviction for those who need
- 0:47it, father and a comfort for those who equally needed.
- 0:51And where we That in this time. As we rehearse, these truths we
- 0:55would leave here refreshed with the knowledge of who you are.
- 0:58Lord, it's still on my heart to pray for the young preacher that
- 1:02took his own life. This week, we lift up, Jared,
- 1:05Wilson's, family to you, Lord, we don't have the answers to
- 1:08questions, but father, we pray for his wife and we pray for his
- 1:12to baby boy, is Lord. We ask for a supernatural peace,
- 1:16to come upon them. We pray for the church Lord.
- 1:20We pray for the people that might be.
- 1:22Be wondering how a leader can come to that point and we pray
- 1:26just for a comfort to come as well and assistance from your
- 1:30Holy Spirit to bring a Serenity in a trust that you're in
- 1:33control. Lord, we think of Isaiah 61
- 1:36father, when King Uzziah died as I said, and I saw the Lord.
- 1:41And so Lord, despite death, and despite disappointment, or we
- 1:45choose to look at you and see that you are seated, high and
- 1:48lifted up. Father, we just pray that if
- 1:51anybody in here, In despair to the point where they don't see
- 1:55another day Worth Living. Lord, you would Breathe, hope
- 1:59through this word and that, it would bring a sense of trust in
- 2:03you. Lord.
- 2:04And father, we think of, even the song that we just sang, I
- 2:07Believe In the resurrection and I believe that Jesus will come
- 2:10again. Lord, we sometimes in these
- 2:12moments aching in pain wish for that day to be.
- 2:14Now, that you would come and sweep this up from this world,
- 2:18from Temptation, from sin, from all these broken, things that we
- 2:22hear Or of and experience. Lord, come and rescue us.
- 2:25We say with the spirit, come Lord, Jesus, we anticipate your
- 2:29return until then, teach us what you want us to know.
- 2:32In Jesus name we pray, amen. Think it serves.
- 2:38Purpose to remind ourselves where we left off.
- 2:41Remember the whole point of the book of Deuteronomy is simply
- 2:44this that God is speaking through Moses to this generation
- 2:47of Israelites to go into the promised land, which symbolizes
- 2:50the central desire for his will for their lives filled with
- 2:53blessing and purpose, it's the same thing for you.
- 2:55And I but it comes with conditions because we can enter
- 2:59into the, will of God, like, many people have, but then
- 3:01forfeited or walk away from it or Spradley come in and out of
- 3:04it. And what Moses is teaching, the
- 3:06people is how to remain in longevity for their purpose in
- 3:09God. And we talked about many things,
- 3:11talked about the warning of enemies that await we talked
- 3:14about the Enemy Within my own heart that refuses to fear God
- 3:20that refuses to love God. We talked about last time we
- 3:25were together two main things in chapter 9 and that was this the
- 3:28practice of remembering our past not just our past in general but
- 3:33our past failures we go I try to forget my past why would I want
- 3:37to remember it? Because there's a holy purpose
- 3:39in that and it is not to Cripple me or condemn me or remove hope
- 3:43for a brighter day tomorrow for God to use me or to reveal
- 3:46himself to me. No is to remember what happened
- 3:49in the past. To not repeat it again to
- 3:51remember the pain that Hold the shame and to bring that memory
- 3:55before me so that when Temptation comes and says hey
- 3:57this is going to feel really good or hey, you're really going
- 4:00to get away with it or hey, this is a better route than God's
- 4:02route. You will go.
- 4:03I done it my way and I remember that feeling, I remember who I
- 4:06heard, I remember I grieve. God no, thank you.
- 4:10That's what we remember our past.
- 4:12And we also remember our past failures to Relish in the
- 4:16Limitless grace of God to realize, he's forgiven me.
- 4:20And he is good to me. And so that's what we talked
- 4:22about. There was a second thing.
- 4:23Moses repeated himself in chapter 9 reminding them of
- 4:27despite their failures specifically five failures and
- 4:30five different locations. He was up on a mountain on his
- 4:33face for 40 days and 40 nights interceding for them. what was
- 4:38the danger in chapter 9 that they would come into the
- 4:40promised land and say, all of this good stuff is happening
- 4:44because I'm righteous and Moses by the spear goes.
- 4:47Hmm, actually you failed many times.
- 4:49So let's go back and remember that and to while you were there
- 4:53failing, I was there interceding.
- 4:57I was crying out to God for you. And so Moses was reminding him
- 5:01of his position. As a mediator reminding them
- 5:05that it was his crying out to God.
- 5:07That even brought them to this place where we are in
- 5:09Deuteronomy, right at the border between the Wilderness and the
- 5:13promised land. And so he's reminding that
- 5:15you're here by grace and whatever you experience in the
- 5:18promised land. That is all by Grace.
- 5:21But now we come to chapter 10 and Moses wants to go from that
- 5:24point to explain further truth. And so from verse 1, remember
- 5:29the last thing we read was He just cried out to God for them
- 5:32and now he says something else here verse 1.
- 5:35It says at that time, the Lord said to me at what time the
- 5:39time--where you failed over and over again.
- 5:41And I lay prostrate before God and cried out to you at that
- 5:44time. The Lord said to me, cut for
- 5:47yourself, two tablets of stone, like the first and come up to me
- 5:53on the mountain and make an arc of wood.
- 5:56And I will write on the tablets, the words that were on the first
- 5:59tablets that you broke and you shall put them in the ark. so
- 6:04chapter 10 tells us the result of his prayers he saying,
- 6:09because I prayed for you, let me let me remind you remember
- 6:11chapter divisions, aren't inspired You know, verses and
- 6:15chapters those weren't in the original text, those are there
- 6:18for our sake and for our reference much later than when
- 6:21the scriptures were written. So there's a flow here.
- 6:23So remove the 10 there and it's a continuation of thought.
- 6:26I've been praying for you, and here's the result of me standing
- 6:29in the gap for you. God spoke and God said, cut two
- 6:35tablets for me. In other words because of my
- 6:38Ministry and my position, as a mediator, despite your failures.
- 6:45You now have a renewed relationship with God.
- 6:48God desires to renew Covenant with you.
- 6:50God desires to restore fellowship with you.
- 6:53God desires to resume the program in the plan that he has
- 6:56had for you but that is based on Not Your Righteous.
- 6:59Remember he still hammering this point.
- 7:00It's not your righteousness. I stood in the gap for you.
- 7:05And we have to understand this because this is a picture of the
- 7:07New Covenant that Jesus Christ. The greater Moses does the same
- 7:11for you and I on a daily basis on a daily basis.
- 7:15We fail on a daily basis, and instead of cutting ourselves off
- 7:19from the blessings of God cutting ourselves off from the
- 7:21goodness of God, there is one, who is pleading for us from a
- 7:26once and for all sacrifice, granting us restoration and
- 7:29reconciliation with the father So this is what they are
- 7:34rehearsing and this is what we need to rehearse as well.
- 7:37That there is one who stands in the gap for me.
- 7:39When I fail, I come to him and he restores Fellowship from my
- 7:43failure, but notice an emphasis here, he says cut for me to
- 7:49stones. So, in this case, the Covenant
- 7:53being restored to restored is in the expression of these two
- 7:57Tablets by Stone written by God, to re stablish the commitment
- 8:04from the people towards God. But I read slowly look what it
- 8:08says here in verse 1 cup for yourself, two, tablets of stone
- 8:11like the first, like the first you go to verse tune.
- 8:16And I will write on the tablets, the words that were on the first
- 8:20tablets. Then you come to verse three.
- 8:24Cut two tablets of stone like the first and he says the same
- 8:28thing in verse 4. So he is very specific in his
- 8:33instructions. He's saying, listen, we're going
- 8:35to restore this Covenant, we're going to restore this
- 8:37commitment, and this contract, but when you make these Stones,
- 8:40I want you to copy paste. The same ones that you broke.
- 8:45When did he break them? He came down from Exodus 32 in
- 8:49the mountain and he saw them all dancing around having a club
- 8:51party time around the golden calf.
- 8:52He was so angry. He broke those stones so they
- 8:54have to restore those stones and he says I want them the same way
- 8:58that I made them originally. What does that mean?
- 9:04This is what it means. That despite of the failure of
- 9:08the people to keep the commands of God, God has no intention
- 9:12ever to change his laws. God will never change his
- 9:17righteous standard even if we fail to keep them.
- 9:22His word is eternal, his Holiness remains.
- 9:26And so we might look at the word and go, that seems kind of
- 9:29severe and God does not budge because God's laws are an
- 9:33expression of his character. And so when he tells Moses do it
- 9:36the same way as before, not because they failed, I'm going
- 9:39to change and I'll bring him okay.
- 9:40You know what? Yeah, you could commit adultery.
- 9:42I see that. You can't contain yourself and
- 9:44you can covet a little bit. I see that, you know, where
- 9:46human he goes. Nope.
- 9:48Same standard. Unchanging.
- 9:55And that's important for us to understand because the issue is
- 9:57not with God's laws. See people failing over and over
- 10:03over again. People that want to create
- 10:06sexuality marriage their own way.
- 10:08It's not because God's laws are out of touch with culture or do
- 10:12not meet the human need or do not lead us to True Joy.
- 10:16Like that's not the reason it's not God's laws its human hearts.
- 10:21That is the problem that is the issue and so the solution is not
- 10:27to change the tablets of stone that God had already created and
- 10:31established in heaven. It's the change.
- 10:34Another type of stone. Can you guess what that stone
- 10:37is? Ezekiel 36:26 tells us that part
- 10:41of the New Covenant is not God removing his righteous
- 10:44standards. It's not God, minimizing it or
- 10:48excluding some commands. That's not God's standard.
- 10:51What God is going to do is he's going to keep his righteous laws
- 10:55on those tablets of stone. But he's going to come into the
- 10:58cavity of our chest, open it up. Take what?
- 11:03I will remove the Heart of Stone from your flesh.
- 11:08And give you a heart of Flesh. That's the standard.
- 11:12You know what many people have this misunderstanding about the
- 11:14Old and New Testament? They go Old Testament.
- 11:16Pretty severe. Those commands seem pretty
- 11:18strict. Is it really though in
- 11:20comparison to the New Testament, You have the Ten Commandments do
- 11:25not commit. Adultery, you go to Jesus and he
- 11:28says, yeah, if you look at a woman with lust, you've already
- 11:31done it, Don't commit murder. If we're honest with ourselves
- 11:37we have a lot of murders in this place according to New Covenant.
- 11:42Because if you have unrighteous anger towards your brother,
- 11:45you've killed them. So is the New Testament really?
- 11:50A lightening up on the law? Or is it an increase in the
- 11:53standard According To Jesus? It is, but even with that
- 11:59standard being set up by the Lord or clarifying what these
- 12:02laws are all about. He provides a solution and it's
- 12:05not diminishing, its law, it's changing your heart and mine.
- 12:09And this gospel truth is right here and it continues because
- 12:12she says, I want you to take these 10 commandments these
- 12:15tablets and I want you to put them in an arc.
- 12:20You know, what does that mean? Why in the ark?
- 12:22Remember the ark. We talked about this chess piece
- 12:25called The Arc, that would follow the Israelites Into the
- 12:28Wilderness, through the Wilderness and into the promised
- 12:30land. And this golden Ark piece would
- 12:33physically, symbolize the presence of God amongst the
- 12:36people and so Moses was given instruction to build it.
- 12:40And one man best lay ill, he was the one who implemented and
- 12:43executed it, but Moses received instruction take the tablets and
- 12:48put it in the arc. Why is that significant because
- 12:52this Arc served a purpose? And the purpose was not just in
- 12:56the fact that it was the Manifest presence of God, in a
- 12:59physical sense, the lid, the lid of that Arc was called something
- 13:06and it had a specific purpose in relationship to the law.
- 13:10Bible study, not sermon. Feels like it, I get it.
- 13:14But what is the lid mean, or what is the lid named?
- 13:19The Mercy Seat. The Mercy Seat.
- 13:22So I'm going to read this from Exodus 25 20 When he was
- 13:26receiving instruction, it says the cherubim, these Heavenly
- 13:29Creatures would be planted on this Mercy.
- 13:32See and they should spread their wings above overshadowing.
- 13:35The mercy seat with their wings, their faces towards one.
- 13:39Another toward The Mercy Seat, shall the faces of the cherubim
- 13:42be. And you shall put the mercy seat
- 13:46on the top of the arc and the arc, you shall put the testimony
- 13:49that I shall give you. So even back in Exodus 20:5,
- 13:52this whole thing was to carry. The Ten Commandments but The
- 13:57Mercy Seat would cover the Ten Commandments.
- 14:03So what's the idea? There there is a sermon being
- 14:05preached there that the tablets of stone which condemned, man
- 14:11and bring men into judgment are hidden and are covered and is
- 14:15Shield by the mercy of God. By the mercy of God, is those as
- 14:21the indictment and the punishment that we deserve, as
- 14:24we Face, the commands of God, it is all protected and covered by
- 14:28God's mercy, but that Mercy, wasn't just automatically
- 14:34implemented. Because there is a practice that
- 14:36the Israelites needed to hold to to activate that Mercy on a
- 14:41yearly basis. What was that practice?
- 14:44It's a feast. That they were to keep once a
- 14:47year. What was it?
- 14:51Another one, the day of what? Atonement Leviticus 16, 14, that
- 14:57one day out of the year, a high priest will walk in and he would
- 15:00take blood from his sacrifice and sprinkle it on the mercy
- 15:04seat. And so it was the blood of
- 15:06another sacrifice upon the mercy seat, that would activate that
- 15:10mercy and keep them Mercy flowing and covering with the
- 15:14laws should do to us. And that is slay us.
- 15:20Here's a picture of what happens when you remove Mercy.
- 15:25There was one time that this golden chest piece was removed
- 15:27from the camp of Israel, and the Philistines took it.
- 15:31And when the Philistines took it, it took a few months for
- 15:33them to realize that we're messing with a true and living
- 15:35God plagues broke out. It was a mess, so they say,
- 15:38let's bring this art back and they bring it back.
- 15:40And once they bring it back out of excitement, the Israelites
- 15:43realized the ark is back and so they come up to the ark and they
- 15:46do something that they shouldn't have done.
- 15:48The ESV doesn't do justice here to explain what happened.
- 15:51If you have new King, James new King, James or nasb, it tells us
- 15:55In 1st Samuel 619. Look what happens.
- 15:58So, this are comes back and they're all freaking out.
- 16:00They're all excited. They come up to this golden
- 16:02piece and it's a holy thing, but they do something Unholy.
- 16:07He struck some of the men have Beth Shemesh because they looked
- 16:09upon the ark. See the ESV says upon, anybody
- 16:12have new King James. What does it say?
- 16:16Okay, if you're there, could you read it for us into the are?
- 16:29so, according to that, what they had done is they have come up to
- 16:31the arc They remove the lid. And they looked into it and when
- 16:38they looked into it, here's a picture.
- 16:41Yes, they touch something that was holding.
- 16:42When the God said, don't touch the holy thing because your
- 16:44Unholy, but I like the picture there, that they remove the
- 16:47mercy seat, and the law was exposed killing them.
- 16:56And so we Here, gospel truth from Deuteronomy chapter 10.
- 17:00That all of these symbolic things, tell us something that
- 17:03we are in need of God's grace. God's covering God's blood to
- 17:09Shield us from what we deserve and that is total, condemnation
- 17:13and destruction because of our sin and our Disobedience, the
- 17:18law. So, he says these things and
- 17:23then in verse 12, we skip through these things because we
- 17:25cover them in our last Bible study.
- 17:28And now Israel verse 12 of chapter 10, what does the Lord
- 17:32your God require of you? That's a humbling question.
- 17:37That's a sobering question. We've been hearing what God had
- 17:40done for them, how God had responded to the intercession of
- 17:43Moses. And now, after all these
- 17:45wonderful things being explained he goes now here's the question.
- 17:50God requires something of you. What is it?
- 17:57Now, we look at that. We go, I'm getting uncomfortable
- 17:59here. Requirement, you've been talking
- 18:01about Grace and you've been talking about God's mercy and
- 18:04provision. That's all true.
- 18:06But Just be realistic here for any relationship to be
- 18:09maintained in a healthy way. There are requirements from both
- 18:14parties and both parties have to meet those requirements.
- 18:18For relationship to be sustained and experience and flourished
- 18:23with the most of abundance and joy, and blessing requirements
- 18:27are laid down and they have to be met.
- 18:29So now, God, turns the table and says, I've given you so much and
- 18:34I am now requiring of you these very things.
- 18:36Now we've touched on a lot of these things.
- 18:39He says, fear the lord your God Walk in all his ways, love him,
- 18:43serve the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your
- 18:45soul, and to keep the Commandments and statues of the
- 18:47Lord, which Commanding you today for your good?
- 18:50See I love that last part for your good.
- 18:52It's not for you too because you're because I did this for
- 18:54you, you better do this for me. It's actually for your good to
- 18:56do it. Only if we would believe it for
- 19:00your good but this is what I want to focus on because Moses.
- 19:03He's a preacher, he's preaching whole sermon, it's a long
- 19:06sermon. We're only halfway through it.
- 19:08Barely And when Moses is doing here is he's laying out the
- 19:12requirements. But with every requirement he
- 19:15brings a reason because this is what God requires for you and he
- 19:19goes, here's the reason. This is the response that God
- 19:22wants from you, but here's why. So he gives a reason in order to
- 19:27motivate them. So when they hear these
- 19:28Commandments, they have fuel to say.
- 19:30Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:32I'm gonna do that. I really want to obey, I really
- 19:34want to submit to fearing God into obeying God and loving God,
- 19:37he gives reasons and we touched on the We touch on the fear of
- 19:41God, loving God, with all your heart mind.
- 19:42So we touch on all this for this study.
- 19:44I want to look at the reasons. I see three main reasons for us
- 19:51to dive into the deep end of obedience and total surrender.
- 19:55I mean, you come to the edge of the cliff and some people are
- 19:58flirting with that and they go, I don't want to jump someone,
- 20:01let my foot hang over there. I might hang over my hands.
- 20:03I'm talking about reasons for us to be able to boldly and
- 20:07confidently, launch ourselves into the arms of God and total
- 20:12obedience. He says here, in verse 14,
- 20:16here's the one reason behold so he says, check it out.
- 20:20Modern term. Realize this feel this.
- 20:25No, this absorb, this behold to the Lord, your God, belong,
- 20:30Heaven, and the heaven of Heavens.
- 20:34The Earth with all that is in it.
- 20:39So pretty much wants to say listen, obey.
- 20:42God follow God. Serve God.
- 20:43Give everything to God, why? Because God owns everything.
- 20:48You know, there's some people that might feel a sense of
- 20:49Honor. If they know somebody else that
- 20:53might be a possessor of great things that my own a specific
- 20:57type of business with a specific amount of Revenue that my own
- 21:00specific amount of houses or luxury cars or lands.
- 21:04And you might have this sense where, you know, this person you
- 21:07go, I know. So and so and this is what they
- 21:09own and this is the toys that they have.
- 21:10And this is what they do and there's this sense of almost
- 21:13privileging I'm buddies with this guy.
- 21:15Yeah, I got this guy's a cell. Phone number He invites me here
- 21:18and there to go out to his place over there in Switzerland or
- 21:21whatever. And what Moses is trying to say
- 21:25is, do you realize who your God is?
- 21:30He is the architect. The manager and the owner of
- 21:36everything of everything. God literally owns every tier of
- 21:46every atmosphere that you can imagine.
- 21:48That's why he says heaven. And the heaven of heavens.
- 21:53He owns all of it. Next time you fly out and you
- 21:55pass through those clouds and you see the Horizon, you realize
- 21:59God owns all of it. You scale through those
- 22:01mountains, you look into the Horizon.
- 22:03You go to the beach and you see those waves crashing go.
- 22:07God owns all of this. Earlier this year, my brother
- 22:11and I had a chance to go to a specific place in the world
- 22:14that's known for its Majestic Beauty in the natural sense and
- 22:17that was Iceland. And we kept driving because you
- 22:20feel like when you go to Iceland you feel like you're in a
- 22:22completely different world. There is barely any thing of
- 22:25Life there even animals. It's just these Grand mountains,
- 22:30you're driving 15 minutes and it's snowing and it's a blizzard
- 22:33and 30 minutes later it's sunshine.
- 22:35And you see the Green Mountains with the muddy skip?
- 22:37You just realized it's just a different planet, almost And the
- 22:40question that keep recurring to me and I was saying it to my
- 22:42brother in the car, like Pete who owns this land, like, you'll
- 22:46see this tiny little house in behind a house.
- 22:48Is this Majestic Peak Mountain? You go.
- 22:50Is that the guys backyard? I don't understand who owns all
- 22:54of this land, whose who, like, does the government owned?
- 22:57It is there even a government? And I said, I haven't seen a
- 22:59police car for so long. What's going on here?
- 23:02What is this land? All about, and it dawned on me,
- 23:05it belongs to God. Anyway, It's all his. so the
- 23:11ocean is, is pool and the mountain, never mind the
- 23:15mountain, the Earth Is His footstool And that's your God.
- 23:21And that's my God. If you're going to link with
- 23:23anybody, if there's anyone that you want to boast in, it's not
- 23:27in your successful buddy. It's not in the one that owns
- 23:30this and that it's the god that claims everything.
- 23:34There's a verse in the Bible that I often love to pray
- 23:36whenever it comes to specifically asking God for a
- 23:39need. Let me read it to you.
- 23:40We can put up on the screen. It's in Psalms 50 verse 10 and
- 23:4412 Look What the Lord says. He says for every beast of the
- 23:50forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.
- 23:57I know all the birds of the hills and all that moves in.
- 24:01The field is mine. If I were hungry, I would not
- 24:06tell you why for the world and its fullness are mine.
- 24:13A preacher made this beautiful illustration concerning the
- 24:17return of Christ. We believe in a millennial
- 24:20Reign, we believe that Jesus Christ will come back physically
- 24:24and will plant his feet on a mountain, that mountain will
- 24:27split into and Jesus Will begin a physical Kingdom on this Earth
- 24:32in which he will rule. The nations with an iron
- 24:34scepter, and all people of all placed will come to worship on
- 24:37the Mount of the lord. We believe that.
- 24:41But the person expressed how it will be when Jesus Christ comes
- 24:44and it would many things are going to be happening.
- 24:46But here's one thing he expressed that when he comes he
- 24:49will stretch forth his hand over all creation and he will state
- 24:53in fatica lie. Mine mine, mine mine, it's all
- 24:59mine. How silly is it going to be when
- 25:05people who have lived for? The things of this world will
- 25:07have to Forfeit in the end to the one who claims it all in his
- 25:11name anyway. He's the owner of everything.
- 25:16That's what he says in verse 14. But then he says here in verse
- 25:1915 yet. So in spite of the fact that he
- 25:22is so above, I mean, everything is his own yet as though to say
- 25:27realize this about how awesome he is the Lord set his heart in
- 25:32Love on your father's and chose their offspring after them you
- 25:36Above All Peoples as you are this day.
- 25:40So, he says in essence. That though he is above and
- 25:46though he owns all things he still in his heart sets his
- 25:49affection on you and on me, he's in love.
- 25:58He is stirred towards us. He saves us and this owner of
- 26:04all things, brings us into his family and calls us his own.
- 26:10See what Moses trying to do, he's trying to stir the hearts
- 26:14to realize how this whole thing is relational.
- 26:17And so, he's saying his affection is set on.
- 26:19You don't don't miss out on that that any good that he does to.
- 26:22You is not just because you are fulfilling something called
- 26:25obedience, it's not just because you're obeying.
- 26:27Some things is he going to bless you?
- 26:28The same book tells us why he gives us good things.
- 26:31Why He blesses us? Why he protects us?
- 26:34Why he provides for us? It's in chapter 28 of the same
- 26:37book verse 63. It's the first part it says, and
- 26:41as the Lord took the light, that's why, oh, he took Delight
- 26:45in doing you good and multiplying you it pleased him.
- 26:50It pleased him 63 of chapter 28, says that it's stirred him like
- 26:55a father that takes pleasure in giving good things to his
- 26:58children. God the one who owns all things
- 27:01the universe is in his name. Says, I take so much delight in
- 27:05blessing. You So as much as you are in
- 27:11that moment, experiencing the goodness of God, where you are
- 27:13at one point in the week, bubbling up, because you realize
- 27:16God has been too good to you realize that at the same time,
- 27:20there is a God in heaven, that is bubbling with that same Joy
- 27:23even more as you relish and experience his favor.
- 27:30Like this God, you know what the other deities do?
- 27:35They according to historical understandings, they would try
- 27:39to make you convince them that they are worthy of rain or crops
- 27:43fertility. And this God is not like the
- 27:47gods of the world. Like, even to this day, there
- 27:49are people who worship the god of the sun and there are people
- 27:51who worship the god of the ocean.
- 27:53They're in charge of the ocean. They make the waves come, they
- 27:55make hurricanes happy. So let's make sacrifices to make
- 27:58sure that the water stays still Let's make sure that the god of
- 28:01the earth doesn't cause earthquakes.
- 28:02So, let's make sacrifices. And this God says, I'm the god
- 28:06of the water, the Earth, the sky, the clouds fertility, all
- 28:09of it, and not only that, I'm not in this to make you convince
- 28:13me that you're worthy of my love.
- 28:14I Delight in extending my grace, do you?
- 28:20Tell me which other God is like this.
- 28:22God He doesn't even stop there. He comes down to verse 17.
- 28:27The third point, the second one was that he is setting his
- 28:31affection on us. This God and thirdly, he is all
- 28:35powerful and all compassion, at the same time for the Lord, your
- 28:38God, I love this, this can be a worship song for the Lord.
- 28:42Your God is, God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the
- 28:48mighty, and the awesome. God, who is not partial and
- 28:52takes no bride. He executes Justice for the
- 28:56fatherless and the Widow and loves a Sojourner, giving him
- 28:59food and clothing. You cannot bring an equal to
- 29:03this God. Nothing or no one can match the
- 29:06purity of his Holiness, the purity of his Justice, the
- 29:10purity of his power. Nothing can withstand or out
- 29:15with his will or his plan being implemented on the earth and
- 29:19nothing in this world can ultimately say anything to him
- 29:22to persuade him. To have their own way.
- 29:25No matter how much bills they bring to the bank, he can't be
- 29:29bribed. He can't be convinced.
- 29:31He cannot be stirred or is turned concerning righteousness.
- 29:36Now you hear something about this, kind of a God and you kind
- 29:38of get the impression that he is mighty.
- 29:40He is big. He is Holy but he doesn't seem
- 29:43very approachable. Or you can go to the extreme to
- 29:47say this God, he has his way this God, his will is done no
- 29:52matter what in the end. So he sounds more like a
- 29:55dictator than a father. He sounds like a force that
- 30:00bulldozes over creation to make sure that he has his flag
- 30:04planted on all Hills. But it doesn't say that because
- 30:09Verse 18 tells us the tenderness of this.
- 30:11God do not confuse God's power with coldness.
- 30:17Do not confuse God's might with an uncaring spirit.
- 30:24Do not confuse. God's awesomeness.
- 30:29With a void of tenderness. Because look what it says he has
- 30:33three people in mind this. Holy God has three types of
- 30:35people on mind. The fatherless Verse 18 says,
- 30:39the Widow and the Sojourner, the little child that doesn't have a
- 30:43dad, he becomes her dad. The soldier that's traveling.
- 30:48Void of things to maintain basic survival.
- 30:51He's the provider. The wife that is aching because
- 30:58their spouse passed away, he becomes their husband and
- 31:02protection and provision this, God zooms into the world and he
- 31:07becomes personal with these groups of people when we in our
- 31:11sin, tend to even neglect and ignore these types.
- 31:16It's no wonder. Look up.
- 31:17Moses says in verse 21. He is your praise.
- 31:24He's your praise like by the end of the segment of his sermon, he
- 31:28comes to the conclusion. We goes, doesn't he as the
- 31:32object of your adoration deserve it?
- 31:34That he is your worship? He is your praise.
- 31:37He is the source of your joy. He is the theme of your song.
- 31:41He's the reason why you come even at the end of a week where
- 31:43you're exhausted to say, you're still worthy of my praise
- 31:46because of the things that we just unpacked.
- 31:50He is your praise meaning, two things.
- 31:52One is the object of all those things but to though he is these
- 31:58things and gives these things, even if these things are
- 32:00experience, not just in me but through me she still gets
- 32:05praised. Do you know?
- 32:06I mean by that because God's goodness it's not just things
- 32:09being given to us. God's goodness is expressed with
- 32:11things happening through us. Look at verse 22.
- 32:16He says here, your father's went down to Egypt, 70 persons and
- 32:19now the Lord, your God has made you as numerous as the stars of
- 32:23Heaven. so this procreation, this multiplication of people,
- 32:31That's a very human act, right? That's a very human thing that
- 32:34is experienced between two people.
- 32:37But as much as it might be between two people, God is
- 32:39ultimately the one who provides it makes those things happen and
- 32:43so he still my praise. Even if I accomplish anything
- 32:46with my own body, with my own hands, with my own mind with my
- 32:49own eyes, he's still the object of my praise.
- 32:52He is still worthy of My Worship.
- 32:53He gets all the glory in the end.
- 32:58So, for weeks now we've been discovering different reasons
- 33:00and different ways to maintain longevity.
- 33:05In the blessings and the will and the plan for God in our
- 33:08lives. So we come to this chapter,
- 33:11Chapter 11. And this is where we are
- 33:13concluding here. He does something interesting.
- 33:18Moses wants us to consider other things.
- 33:20Remember we've considered so many things up to this point.
- 33:23Fear of God, love for God, the enemies outside the enemies
- 33:27Within. My observance of the word of
- 33:30God, rehearsing the word of God to my children.
- 33:32Now, he comes to chapter 11 and he wants him to consider three
- 33:37things, three more things. We're going to go through these
- 33:40quickly maybe. Verse 1.
- 33:47You shall therefore. Love the Lord, your God and keep
- 33:49his charge. We've heard this so many times.
- 33:52But how his statutes his rules and his Commandments, always
- 33:57here it is, verse 2. And consider today since I'm not
- 34:02speaking to your children who have not known or seen it
- 34:04consider. Here's the first one.
- 34:06There's three 3D's. Here's the first D.
- 34:10Consider the discipline of the Lord.
- 34:15Maybe he's giving them ingredients to know how to bring
- 34:17these ingredients together and maximize longevity in the will
- 34:20of God. And you know what, discipline is
- 34:23not the primary meditation for many people who follow God in
- 34:28their day-to-day walk. We love to meditate or many
- 34:31things upon the Lord, but let's be honest.
- 34:33Discipline is not one of them. But he says, considered
- 34:38discipline consider God's chastisement.
- 34:41Consider when God steps in as a father to correct his children.
- 34:45And I want you to meditate on that.
- 34:49And then he gives scenarios, he says different ones.
- 34:54But here's to one main ones, he goes, his greatness, his mighty
- 34:57hand and his outstretched arm. His signs in his deeds that he
- 34:59didn't Egypt to pharaoh. I want you to meditate on what
- 35:03happened to pharaoh. And how I dealt with him.
- 35:10Really, yes, I want you to think about how Pharaoh was and how I
- 35:15moved upon him and his Nation as an act of discipline.
- 35:21What's the purpose of that? To keep me in line?
- 35:26Not just that he goes on to explain the things that happened
- 35:29in the wilderness and then he comes to a different place in
- 35:31verse 6, and he was, and what he did to dathan and abiram, the
- 35:34sons of Elijah, the sons of Reuben, how the Earth opened its
- 35:37mouth and swallowed them up with their households.
- 35:41That's not something that we would tend to meditate on.
- 35:44If there's a story in the Bible to help us in our Holiness,
- 35:47sanctification one of the things on my list would not be how the
- 35:51Earth opened up and swallowed people alive and clothes on top
- 35:55of them, but he Meditate on it. What did they send a Byram Cora
- 36:02and Farrell have in common? I think one thing that they had
- 36:08in common was this and this is what God has in mind with these
- 36:11examples. That they fully knew the will of
- 36:15God and they still chose to rebel against it.
- 36:20Willfully. Did you hear that?
- 36:25God disciplines Us in different ways.
- 36:27And God knows exactly how to discipline us, but when it comes
- 36:31to knowing the standard of God, knowing the word of God knowing
- 36:35what God is doing, knowing what God is saying and then still
- 36:38with my heart, come against it with my decisions.
- 36:43I am in for a specific type of discipline that should keep us
- 36:47in the fear of God, Pharaoh knew what God Said.
- 36:51Let my people go and he did everything.
- 36:55To not make that happen. Korah dathan.
- 36:59And the guys with him knew that Moses and Aaron were the chosen
- 37:04leaders. They knew God spoke to about
- 37:07that. Made it so clear and yet they
- 37:09still willfully rebelled against God's decision when we choose to
- 37:14know God's word and go against it willfully.
- 37:20We're entering into a realm of God's discipline that God warns
- 37:24us about. And I thought about this just
- 37:30studying it today, I was looking at this going and what he I mean
- 37:32this happened back in numbers and he's still bringing it up
- 37:35out of all the examples to bring up.
- 37:38Remember this. And I thought to myself, is
- 37:42probably good to go back and look at it for all of us to
- 37:44remember what happened in that scene.
- 37:47So go to number 16th with me quickly. what Cora and these
- 37:55guys did was they rebelled against God's chosen Authority,
- 38:00which is ultimately rebelling against God, But, you know, my
- 38:05question about that is, why did they come to that place?
- 38:08How did they come to that place? What was it within them that
- 38:11caused them to come to a decision to say?
- 38:14We are going to overthrow Moses and Aaron and we are going to
- 38:18set up a new leader and we're going back to where we want to
- 38:20go. And that's Egypt, it's
- 38:22craziness. but I think that there are some lessons here to
- 38:26remind ourselves because really it's Envy.
- 38:32It's jealousy. Listen.
- 38:37Have you known anybody that has Outburst of anger?
- 38:43Well, we heard a lot of memes there.
- 38:46It's not a fun thing to live with.
- 38:49It's not a fun thing to know, somebody who has that talk about
- 38:52outbursts of anger. It's like, I mean to the point
- 38:54where you're scared to go to public with that kind of person.
- 38:58You're scared that anything will set them off.
- 39:01Somebody with anger issues. You know, the scripture says
- 39:05that as atrocious as that is they the scriptures does a
- 39:09contrast between anger and rage. But then it says, when it comes
- 39:13to jealousy, but who can stand before jealousy, And the reason
- 39:21why jealousy is so scary, I'll tell you why.
- 39:25Anger, you might be able to point to external things that
- 39:28might trigger somebody off, but when it comes to jealousy,
- 39:32what's scary, is that person who is the object of one's, jealousy
- 39:36is not doing anything wrong. They're just doing what God told
- 39:40them to do. And yet there's still this
- 39:45Monster within you, that wants to devour that person in your
- 39:48mind and your thoughts. And so jealousies, and nasty
- 39:52thing, unless by the spirit it comes and brings Deliverance.
- 39:56These guys had a sense in which they did not realize anymore
- 40:01that God is the one who chooses individuals for specific roles.
- 40:05Look at verse 5 of number 16. When Moses heard it, he fell on
- 40:08his face when he heard that they have come to rebel against them
- 40:11and to overthrow the authority and he said to Cora and all this
- 40:14company in the morning, the Lord will show who is his and who is
- 40:19Holy and will bring him near to him.
- 40:22The one whom he chooses he will bring near to him.
- 40:26See, they failed to realize that it is God, who appoints?
- 40:29It is God who anoints, it is, God who sets apart different,
- 40:33people for different tasks and not just different people with
- 40:35different tasks. Here, me very carefully.
- 40:38God even appoints, the level of influence that they have.
- 40:43So, we always limit this to God gifts you with a certain gift.
- 40:46God gives her with a certain gift that's all true.
- 40:49But even with that gift, look how Sovereign God is God,
- 40:51determines the boundaries of their influence of how far and
- 40:55how many people that gift will touch.
- 40:58Say really, here's a verse second Corinthians. 2nd
- 41:02Corinthians, 10:13. Look what Paul says.
- 41:06In verse 13 of second Corinthians 10, but we will not
- 41:09boast Beyond limits, but will boast only with regard to the
- 41:15area of influence. God assigned to us, to reach,
- 41:19even to. You is right there because
- 41:23listen got assigned to us boundaries to wear influence of
- 41:29our ministry. To the Gentiles will go and we
- 41:31can't boast beyond that. God has given us this Outreach.
- 41:34God has given us the ability. Come to you.
- 41:38And so that's it. God assign that to us.
- 41:43And so, what we begin to do is we can fall into jealousy when
- 41:47we fail to realize that God is the one who appoints all this
- 41:49stuff in the first place. And we have the right to pray
- 41:52and ask the Lord. Lord broaden, the horizons of my
- 41:56influence Lord. Let me let me touch as many
- 41:58people as I can while I still have breath.
- 42:00And God in his sovereignty. In his wisdom, knows how much we
- 42:03can handle and who needs to be touched.
- 42:08But these men have come to a place where they fail to realize
- 42:11that it is God who appoints. Especially in a Ministry,
- 42:15context, brothers and sisters. God is the boss. he hires, and
- 42:21he fires, And it's a wonderful thing when God hires and he
- 42:26exalts, and it's a scary thing. When God takes somebody, who is
- 42:30in a place and brings them low. He's ultimately Sovereign all
- 42:35this people worried all the time when they hear of something, how
- 42:37can this person who's in Ministry do this and how can
- 42:39person who has that kind of an influence do that, they're not
- 42:43dealing with a human boss who is unaware of their Affairs in the
- 42:47world. They're dealing with God.
- 42:50And he assigns and he removes and he promotes and emotes.
- 42:53It's all him. They've made this a merely human
- 42:59thing. Now in verse 9, this is where
- 43:02else they failed. It says here in verse 9 of
- 43:04chapter 16. Look what Moses says in verse 8
- 43:08and Moses said to Cora here. Now you sons of Levi, hold on
- 43:12for a second. Okay.
- 43:14These guys that were jealous and envious of Moses and Aaron, they
- 43:18were sons of Levi. You know what the Levites were
- 43:22instructed to do, right? Can anybody explain what the
- 43:24Levites role was? The Levites.
- 43:34So there are Levites who were priests?
- 43:37But listen, not all Levites were priests.
- 43:41You had people who had specific roles in which they handled the
- 43:44actual artifacts and the furniture that dealt with
- 43:46intercession and sacrifice. Then you had Levites who
- 43:49assisted these men, And we're not primary, the ones handling
- 43:54these things. So you have those who are
- 43:56directly involved with it, and yet those who assisted The
- 44:00priests they were those who are still within there were those
- 44:03who carried part of the tent. They were there but look what
- 44:06they failed to do. They fail to realize what honor
- 44:09that was because he says in verse 9, is it too small.
- 44:12A thing for you. That the god of Israel has
- 44:17separated you from the congregation of Israel to bring
- 44:20you near to himself to do the service in the Tabernacle the
- 44:23Lord and to stand before the congregation to minister to them
- 44:26and that he has brought you near to him.
- 44:28And all your brothers are sons of Levi with you.
- 44:32See what people go wrong is when they begin to look at their
- 44:34Ministry or their life and they see it as a small thing and they
- 44:37compared to somebody else, who seems to be doing a big thing.
- 44:41And the go. What about my life?
- 44:42I'm insignificant. What about what I'm doing?
- 44:44I'm not touching, as many people.
- 44:45I'm not as influential, I'm not as known.
- 44:48See, when you begin to think that like that, you create a
- 44:51breeding ground for covetousness and envy and jealousy.
- 44:56And so the sons of Korah these Levites have come to that place
- 45:00and it was a disaster for them but what I love about the sons
- 45:04of Korah is that you read through numbers and you go
- 45:06through the Old Testament you come to Psalms And you reach
- 45:09something that is written by the sons of Korah.
- 45:14And we sing it here sometimes and chapter 84.
- 45:18Verse 10 for a day in your courts is better than a thousand
- 45:23elsewhere. Look what they say.
- 45:26Do you think this will relationship?
- 45:27Absolutely. These are the sons of Korah who
- 45:29did not join their father core in Rebellion.
- 45:32We found out that the sons of Korah when God said hey separate
- 45:35yourselves from their camps, walk away, you know who walked
- 45:38away the sons of Korah I'm sorry Dad.
- 45:42I love you. Mom.
- 45:42I love you but if you're going to rebel against God I'm
- 45:44standing with God. And so the sons of Korah many
- 45:49years later, write this song and look what they say.
- 45:51I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to
- 45:54dwell in the tents of wickedness.
- 45:59You know what they're saying? God, I'm satisfied with whatever
- 46:03Ministry you give me. Want to make me a doorkeeper.
- 46:06Want to make me an usher. Want me to sweep the floor.
- 46:09I don't need this. I don't need this.
- 46:11I don't need no public. I don't need to be on the
- 46:12camera. I don't need anything as long as
- 46:15I know that I have your presence.
- 46:18I'm satisfied. I'm satisfied.
- 46:22See their fathers were concerned with position.
- 46:24The suns were concerned with presence.
- 46:28And when you begin to occupy your life, with position more
- 46:31than presence, you are setting yourself up for disaster because
- 46:34I guarantee when you get to the position, you will still feel
- 46:36void. so that was going to be important for these guys to go
- 46:44in, because One of the things that will destroy you
- 46:49experiencing God's promises in your life is when you begin to
- 46:52covet other people's and are not satisfied with him alone.
- 47:00So now we come to the second D of chapter 11 one is considered
- 47:04that this a plan of the Lord realize that God will do
- 47:07something with my sin. If I'm Blatantly disobeying and
- 47:12walking against the Lord, he will do something in his love.
- 47:16I want you to think about something.
- 47:17How do you know Jesus loves you? He died for you, absolutely.
- 47:25Have you ever thought about this expression of God's love?
- 47:29We don't think about it, but it's found in Revelations.
- 47:31Chapter 3. We go to John 3:16.
- 47:35Let's go to Revelation 3. Verse 19.
- 47:42This is what Jesus has to a church.
- 47:46I want you to think about this the next time you might
- 47:48experience God's discipline in any shape or form.
- 47:53Those whom I love I reprove and discipline.
- 48:00That's it. Those whom I love.
- 48:06I'm going to discipline. I'm going to rebuke.
- 48:11I'm gonna deal with. See if you didn't love you and
- 48:13me he would let us get away with our sin.
- 48:16He would let us get away with our apathy.
- 48:20Oftentimes, in meeting sometimes you see, people that listen are
- 48:23severely dealt with by God because they have back slid and
- 48:27they are crushed with conviction.
- 48:29And I see that person standing before me, and I see tears, and
- 48:32I see Guilt and remorse, but at the same time, I see a love from
- 48:35God to not leave them in that condition.
- 48:38But the conviction to the point where it hurts the core only to
- 48:41bring them back into the center of his.
- 48:42Will I just don't believe that. God loves me because he sent his
- 48:45son, I know that, but I believe that even as I walk and I walk
- 48:48away, God, Discipline me and that is his love.
- 48:52He will do something with my Disobedience.
- 48:53He will not keep me in it. Second D, that clock is frozen.
- 48:59So you cannot blame me for going through late here.
- 49:02Verse 10 and 11. Not just the discipline of the
- 49:06Lord, consider the dependency. We have on the Lord.
- 49:10He says, for the land that you are entering to take possession.
- 49:13Of is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come where
- 49:17you sold your seat and irrigated it like a garden of vegetables.
- 49:20But the land that you are going over to possess as a land of
- 49:23Hills and Valleys was drinks water by the rain from Heaven, a
- 49:27land that the Lord your God cares for the eyes of the Lord,
- 49:30your God are always upon it from the beginning of the year, to
- 49:33the end of the year. We touch on this and Maranatha.
- 49:34If you were That Isaac in the midst of a severe famine, wanted
- 49:42to go back to Egypt. And you would think when the
- 49:44famine affect that part of the Middle East as well, could have.
- 49:48But there is a man-made water system that provided water,
- 49:51because they were desert and they didn't have as much rain as
- 49:54this part would And this is a beautiful concept because what
- 50:00he's saying is, as you are entering into the promised land
- 50:03as you are entering into from, I will for your lives.
- 50:05This is what you inherit check this out because it's true in
- 50:07the New Testament. You inherit a 24/7, guarantee,
- 50:12surveillance, and Care from God. He says, when you come into this
- 50:17land, when you come into my will, when you make a decision
- 50:20to obey and to stay in where, I want you to be what you get with
- 50:23that is year to year month to month week, to week day by Day.
- 50:27Second-by-second eyes on you. Eyes on your needs eyes on
- 50:34everything that you need for survival and joy.
- 50:36I'm there. This is what you inherit. and
- 50:41that's a wonderful thing, because That is what we have to
- 50:48understand should be a motivation to Walking With
- 50:50Jesus. So even if a man does come and
- 50:56even if there's delay on rain, this is what.
- 50:59I know he's there. I'm telling you guys, you have
- 51:03to, we have to live with a conscious awareness that he is
- 51:05really with me. Every single moment that is
- 51:08life-changing that is life-changing.
- 51:14See, Egypt is a system of the world that was working
- 51:16independently from God's Aid. They were doing it their way,
- 51:20they're doing it by their own strength.
- 51:21And so things are happening. They didn't need to call out the
- 51:23guard necessarily. But if you were here on last
- 51:28Wednesday and prayer meeting Ezekiel tells us something about
- 51:31this land, he gives description and I want to read it.
- 51:34Ezekiel 20 verse 6. This is so beautiful.
- 51:38He says, on that day, I swore to them, that I would bring them
- 51:40out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for
- 51:44them. God had searched out that land
- 51:47for them. Listen, they sent spies.
- 51:50Was that God's will? The people asked?
- 51:53Moses to send spies? And God says, sure, but I
- 51:56already did the searching. I don't know why you're going.
- 52:01I already know your future. I already know what needs to be
- 52:05provide. I know everything.
- 52:06It's all set up for you. Why are you so scared?
- 52:09Why do you feel like you need to walk in unbelief?
- 52:13Why are you so fearful I searched out the land and then
- 52:16look what. He says a land flowing with milk
- 52:18and honey, the most glorious of all lands.
- 52:23The most glorious of all lands. Do you know why it was glorious?
- 52:27I believe, because what we read in Deuteronomy 11 because he's
- 52:29watching over it. Day and night, night and day.
- 52:34He's there that this geographical location is where
- 52:39God wants to bring his presence and power to be made manifest.
- 52:45So, you know what that means for us, in light of this study, that
- 52:48when I am wondering, whether I want to walk in the fullness of
- 52:51God, I really want to fully surrender.
- 52:53I know this that whatever God has for me in that is the most
- 52:55glorious plan. Is the most glorious thing he
- 52:59has in light of my life, nothing less.
- 53:03But Egypt has all this. I could care less.
- 53:06What Egypt has or what Egypt has to offer.
- 53:10The Bible tells me the center of God's will is the most glorious.
- 53:14I've said it many times before and I'll say it.
- 53:16Again, you can write down the best ideal concept of what your
- 53:20life can be imagined. You had I want you to do this.
- 53:23Imagine you had Limitless resources.
- 53:25Imagine you can have any person in the world at your Choice.
- 53:28Imagine you can have anything anything and you would write it
- 53:31down on the list for the next 70 years of your life, 80 years,
- 53:34whatever, that plan is whatever. God has is way more glorious.
- 53:37I promise you. But he tells them to go into
- 53:43this land. I love it because it was
- 53:45creating a dependency upon them. So you can't rely necessarily on
- 53:49these systems to create Waters to take care of your Gardens.
- 53:52You need rain from heaven and so I'm bringing you here
- 53:55geographically so that you would continually seek me, wait on me,
- 53:59trust in me. Because, as much as we want,
- 54:04God's will guess what God's will involves dependency?
- 54:09Lastly, the last D, it's in verse 16 of chapter 11. and I
- 54:16looked, He says here, take care. Lest your heart be here.
- 54:24It is deceived. And you turn aside and serve
- 54:27other gods and worship them. The first one was understanding
- 54:32is discipline. The second one is understanding
- 54:35my dependency. In the third.
- 54:36One is understanding the possibility of my heart being
- 54:38deceived. So he gives warning, he says
- 54:43listen even in the midst of all of this goodness, because he
- 54:46just goes on to describe how he will provide the former rain and
- 54:49the later rain, and it's all going to be taken care of.
- 54:51And then he inserts this warning yet, take care of that.
- 54:55Your hearts, don't get caught up in deception and you turn aside
- 54:59and follow other gods. You know what, I've always
- 55:02wondered. How is it?
- 55:03That people who experienced the goodness of God, who have tasted
- 55:05his presence who's seen works of God?
- 55:07Who are one time. So in the will of God, Think
- 55:10turn aside. How do they go into another
- 55:15Direction? And now they're fully blatantly
- 55:17serving other gods, many reasons.
- 55:18And here's one of them deception.
- 55:25Because it says, beware lest your heart, be deceived and then
- 55:28you turn aside and follow other gods.
- 55:31So it didn't start with turning aside.
- 55:32And then deception came. It was deception that made them
- 55:34turn aside. They believe something to be
- 55:37true when it was blatantly false and they bought the LIE, they
- 55:40were convinced of it and they headed toward a direction that
- 55:42pull them away from truth. So, big reason for why many
- 55:48people can turn away is because deception has crept in and
- 55:52convince them of a truth that was actually false and they
- 55:56bought it. Do you realize that Temptation
- 56:01within itself? Is a deception.
- 56:03Every time it presents itself. Every time sin comes up and says
- 56:07taste it. Every time sin comes is open
- 56:09every time, the sin comes and says, look for it every time
- 56:12since it's just do it. Every time it's deception.
- 56:16And that pull that you feel within that that pull that
- 56:19you're getting in that moment, what it's saying to you, is this
- 56:23sin is better than God. Every time.
- 56:29And what people do is that they open themselves up to deception,
- 56:32do you realize why we have to get into the word of God every
- 56:34day? Every moment I can, yes, we have
- 56:40other things to do, but I must give something to the Lord in
- 56:43order to filter my heart from deception.
- 56:47To give myself to understanding. What truth is that when
- 56:49Deception comes? I can identify and laser beam it
- 56:51out of my system. Because Hebrews 3:13 tells us
- 56:55that our hearts can be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
- 57:01And so, the antidote to that is truth and remaining in the
- 57:05truth. And that goes back to other
- 57:07things. That Moses said, rehearsing the
- 57:09word of God coming to the word of God, washing ourselves with
- 57:11the word of God, lest our hearts, be susceptible to lies
- 57:17and me walking in those lies. And I'm going to end on that
- 57:23note to say this. That maybe you're in this place.
- 57:31And your heart is turned away from God.
- 57:35Because you believe the lie. About a substance about a
- 57:41person, but a way of life about who God is, but what this whole
- 57:46Christian experience is about. You have bought into a lie that
- 57:49has made you turn aside to follow other gods.
- 57:57I declare to you on this Friday night as many people in here.
- 58:00Now, That walking in the fullness of the will of God is
- 58:04more glorious than what you're experiencing.
- 58:11And that every time Temptation presents itself, people of God.
- 58:15You and I must realize, but obedience to him is much more.
- 58:19Glorious waiting on him is much more glorious trusting in Him is
- 58:24much more glorious. If you're in this place tonight
- 58:30and your heart is not fully set on living for Christ
- 58:34surrendering to Christ. Can you ask yourself this
- 58:37question? And I encourage you people of
- 58:39God to ask people. This question in evangelism in
- 58:42your witness to your family, your friends always ask this
- 58:45question, it's a beautiful question.
- 58:49You heard the gospel? Yes.
- 58:51What's holding you back from saying yes?
- 58:54Just ask that. And see how people come into
- 59:00bewilderment. See how people in the moment you
- 59:03will see it most of the time. People just the lights are
- 59:06turning out due to do and they realize If they're honest with
- 59:09themselves, they will begin to cough up answers.
- 59:13And if they are not one of the best answers, you can get, is
- 59:17this nothing. Nothing's holding me back.
- 59:23Then do you want to follow Jesus Christ surrender to him?
- 59:26Yeah. Yeah, I do.
- 59:29But I want to ask you that question in your heart.
- 59:34What's holding you back from surrendering to him all over
- 59:36again? Whatever it is.
- 59:40According to this Bible study. Who God is and what God has for
- 59:45you is so much better. Promise you with the authority
- 59:49of the scriptures, not my opinion.
- 59:53So tonight guys, I understand some are tired.
- 59:56Some are weary some are ready to get in the cars and go home for
- 59:58a good night's sleep. But can we do one more thing
- 1:00:00before we do that? Scripture tells us in verse 21
- 1:00:04and chapter 10, he is your praise in light of how good he
- 1:00:08has been. And that's what we're going to
- 1:00:09do right now seek his face and just tell him one more time Lord
- 1:00:13you are good and your worthy of my affection.
- 1:00:16You bow your heads tonight. Do we choose to read this verse
- 1:00:52in light of addressing you tonight?
- 1:00:55And we see here that you tell us For the Lord, your God is, God
- 1:01:00of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the
- 1:01:06awesome. God, who is not partial and
- 1:01:09takes, no bribe, he executes Justice for the fatherless and
- 1:01:13the Widow and loves the Sojourner, giving him food and
- 1:01:16clothing. Lori read in verse 14,
- 1:01:20addressing you behold. To the Lord, your God belong,
- 1:01:24Heaven, and the heaven of heavens.
- 1:01:29The Earth with all that is in it yet.
- 1:01:31The Lord said his heart and love on you.
- 1:01:35Your father's chose their offspring, after them you Above
- 1:01:38All Peoples as you are this day. God we choose to really believe
- 1:01:43this tonight and we pray that you would receive our praise in
- 1:01:46light of it. Father, we pray for the person
- 1:01:49whose heart might have turned away and deception.
- 1:01:52May they know right now that you are ready to receive them.
- 1:01:56You are ready to see them. Come into your Arms and
- 1:02:00fellowship rest or lured, by the finished work of Jesus Christ.
- 1:02:04Let them know that tonight, let them know that tonight that if
- 1:02:07they were one who walk with you, but walked away that you giving
- 1:02:11this word, as an act of discipline, to convict him to
- 1:02:13bring to that, place of restoration and Reconciliation,
- 1:02:16speak to your people. Lord, speak to your people, by
- 1:02:19your spirit. Now exactly what we need to hear
- 1:02:22about Lord, may you receive this from all people here.
- 1:02:24And that is praise. We ask these things in Jesus
- 1:02:26name. Amen.
