Lanzarote: Visitor Limits & Who Should Skip It
🌍 Lanzarote is the island that invented limiting tourism — the 1967 billboard ban, the 1991 island plan, the whole-island Biosphere Reserve. So we went looking for the limits that actually bind a visitor in 2026, and found one charge: €3 to drive into Papagayo, card only, non-residents. No island cap on arrivals, beds, cruise passengers, day visitors or hire cars. The Canarian moratorium was repealed by the 2017 land law. The new island plan reached preliminary draft on 28 July 2026 and hasn't been to public consultation.
