- 0:19Speaker 3: What else could you ask for? Like your number one

- 0:24Speaker 3: mini camp.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Ends and hey, yeah great.
- 0:26Speaker 3: It would have told me that night that C. J.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Stroud was going to have that rookie year. I would
- 0:30Speaker 3: have asked you to pee in a couple.
- 0:33Speaker 4: I'm gonna throw some cold water on.
- 0:35Speaker 2: No booty, no foody, nobody for your booty.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Let's let's calm down, call.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Them the good booty. A second ago, though, Evan, you're
- 0:41Speaker 2: going back.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I think he was talking about booty in general. I
- 0:45Speaker 3: don't want to like foot words.
- 0:46Speaker 2: You know, yeah little booty booty.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I just like, if you weren't being creepy. I don't
- 0:49Speaker 3: want to decide that to gross really mix it in
- 0:52Speaker 3: with the fruit.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Salad is pretty good, No.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Like in the here like the moisture. I hate water.
- 1:00Speaker 2: How about candalo?
- 1:01Speaker 4: I hate it. Don't like any fruit.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I would have checked my outrage had I realized it's
- 1:07Speaker 2: just the first.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Orange does not look good on everybody doesn't right, the
- 1:12Speaker 5: burins are not true.
- 1:13Speaker 6: Orange four inch door hinge, orange stor hinge.
- 1:19Speaker 2: It's is it not rhyming in your head?
- 1:23Speaker 4: For we believe you, Matt.
- 1:26Speaker 2: All right, we believe you. Size doesn't matter.
- 1:28Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:30Speaker 6: Presented by Toyota's official website.
- 1:32Speaker 2: For deals, buy a Toyota dot com. All right, welcome
- 1:37Speaker 2: to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday, fourth of July week,
- 1:42Speaker 2: our one and only show this week, So be prepared.
- 1:45Speaker 2: We're gonna have to get it all in in this
- 1:47Speaker 2: two hours. And sounds like you guys had a pretty
- 1:50Speaker 2: good time while I was away last week. It was
- 1:52Speaker 2: hard for it. It was hard without you. Where were
- 1:54Speaker 2: you you were? Were you vacationing or vacationing. I was
- 1:56Speaker 2: probably working harder last week than I do when I'm here.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I was painting outside. This is setting up nicely for
- 2:03Speaker 2: some home improvement. Well, we're gonna talk a little football.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Don't worry, because we did have a little breaking news
- 2:09Speaker 2: that broke during Catch twenty two that Evan and Alex
- 2:12Speaker 2: broke about Jelani Tavai. So we'll get into that, and
- 2:16Speaker 2: I think the bigger discussion about a lot riding on
- 2:19Speaker 2: this defense in order to keep our heads above water
- 2:22Speaker 2: this season. So we'll talk about that. But it's Deuce,
- 2:26Speaker 2: it's Tamaraw, it's Evan, it's Paul. We're here for the
- 2:28Speaker 2: next two hours talking Patriots football in our temporary studio.
- 2:34Speaker 2: And I got to look at the new studio. I'm
- 2:37Speaker 2: very excited.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Don't spoil it.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I haven't seen it. I'm not saying what it's going
- 2:42Speaker 2: to look like, but I'm very excited. Is this the
- 2:44Speaker 2: last show in here? Hopefully? Yeah? Could be. If all
- 2:46Speaker 2: goes well, we'll be in our new digs on Tuesday. Wow. Yeah,
- 2:50Speaker 2: all right? Exciting.
- 2:52Speaker 3: So I have to miss the first show in the
- 2:54Speaker 3: new studio that I'm on vacation. Next on vacation, me too.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Same and you're at all three of you, so we
- 2:59Speaker 2: might to push that back, you and Alex, You and Alex,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and maybe we'll bring in somebody else. Maybe no socks.
- 3:06Speaker 2: He no socks that Smith Smith. Oh wow, he doesn't
- 3:09Speaker 2: wear socks. You got that one before.
- 3:11Speaker 4: No, the dogs are always out for that.
- 3:13Speaker 2: So here's no socks. When he wears shoes, he doesn't.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Wear socks like sneakers.
- 3:19Speaker 2: No leather shoes, no socks, sneakers, socks, but when he
- 3:26Speaker 2: dresses up, he doesn't wear socks. And he got that
- 3:30Speaker 2: from his channel five days. Mike Lynch was the same way,
- 3:34Speaker 2: so I think he was just copying Mike Channel five days.
- 3:37Speaker 2: That goes way back. So that's the origin of no socks.
- 3:43Speaker 2: That's why we call him that.
- 3:45Speaker 4: I call him Mattie Appetizers.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Mattie Appetizer. He is the appetizer king Maize.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Yeah, on the road, you don't out to dinner with
- 3:53Speaker 4: with matt great time, but also you're about to order
- 3:56Speaker 4: every appetizer on the.
- 3:58Speaker 5: I don't hate it, honestly, I think the appet sometimes
- 4:00Speaker 5: they're better than the actual entre.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yeah, yeah, just give me a little of each.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Where are my apps? Yeah? Love apps? All right, big,
- 4:10Speaker 2: So let's get right into it. I guess you know
- 4:13Speaker 2: Jilanni Devis. You know, the Celtics announced of being sold.
- 4:16Speaker 2: They signed Tatum, but we're going to announce Johnie Devis.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Hold my beer, Hold my beer.
- 4:23Speaker 7: Yeah, I haven't seen the terms yet. You guys said
- 4:25Speaker 7: three year deal.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Twenty one million of max value for over three years.
- 4:30Speaker 4: This is Reese, yeah, and Schefter fifteen million is the
- 4:34Speaker 4: base value. Yeah, incentive package.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So the Patriots haven't officially announced it, but when Reese
- 4:39Speaker 2: puts it out there, you know it's it's accurate.
- 4:42Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 7: Well, I mean I think you know, he's a guy
- 4:44Speaker 7: that's he's really blossom the last couple of years. I mean,
- 4:46Speaker 7: you know, just looking back at his stats last year,
- 4:48Speaker 7: I mean, you know, career year for him, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 7: one hundred and ten total tackles. I mean, he was
- 4:54Speaker 7: He's been a real productive player for them, And I mean,
- 4:55Speaker 7: I think it's just that it shows Mayo wants to
- 4:57Speaker 7: kind of keep what they have some you know, linebackers
- 5:01Speaker 7: are the second level who can kind of play on
- 5:02Speaker 7: the edge a little bit play inside. I mean, I
- 5:04Speaker 7: think the conversation probably is people have been talking about
- 5:07Speaker 7: wanting to get more mobile at linebacker, and this is
- 5:10Speaker 7: probably an indication that they kind of like staying physical
- 5:13Speaker 7: and versatile as opposed to you know, going more towards
- 5:15Speaker 7: the end of the six one six, two two ten,
- 5:18Speaker 7: you know, kind of a lighter linebacker style. So I
- 5:20Speaker 7: think it's just an indication that that Mayo is is
- 5:23Speaker 7: going to kind of keep what they did with Bentley
- 5:25Speaker 7: and Tavai and you know, kind of rotating those edge
- 5:28Speaker 7: guys a little bit and having him play in a
- 5:29Speaker 7: couple of different spots. But I mean, I think personality wise,
- 5:33Speaker 7: I think he's really come on here and you know,
- 5:35Speaker 7: started to live up to his potential. And I don't know,
- 5:37Speaker 7: I don't know about the money and how it all
- 5:39Speaker 7: stacks up and all that, But last point is just
- 5:42Speaker 7: that they've got a lot of free agents on defensive
- 5:44Speaker 7: that next year, so I think they're solidifying a couple
- 5:46Speaker 7: of things there. I mean, Bentley will be back to
- 5:48Speaker 7: but you know, Judon Ouch, those are some big question
- 5:50Speaker 7: marks too, So I think it's it's just part of
- 5:52Speaker 7: kind of preparing for that.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Yep, anything part I wouldn't disagree with anything Mike just said.
- 5:58Speaker 3: I think he's been a solid player for them now
- 6:01Speaker 3: for the last couple of seasons, and he's I think
- 6:03Speaker 3: off off the field. I mean, I know that, you know,
- 6:06Speaker 3: fans don't necessarily care about that, but I think he's
- 6:08Speaker 3: one of the guys you want to reward. You want
- 6:11Speaker 3: to keep guys like that in your program, and I
- 6:13Speaker 3: think that's important, probably was important for Mayo and Wolf
- 6:17Speaker 3: to have a guy like that who does everything right.
- 6:20Speaker 3: On and off the field, keep him in the fold,
- 6:22Speaker 3: keep him happy. And you know, I think we've seen
- 6:24Speaker 3: that trend of you know, we're working on over a
- 6:28Speaker 3: dozen guys now, you know, sort of all together between
- 6:31Speaker 3: guys that were resigned that we were actual free agents
- 6:34Speaker 3: and now guys that have been extended. Is now you know,
- 6:37Speaker 3: bar More Stevenson to buy you know, this Tugger you know,
- 6:42Speaker 3: you know, well he was actually a free agent, David
- 6:44Speaker 3: and David Andrews another extension to Henry for another re signing. Yeah,
- 6:50Speaker 3: so like you're dealing with all of these guys, are
- 6:56Speaker 3: you know, let's just say fifteen guys. That's what Mayow
- 7:01Speaker 3: and Wolf wanted to do. They wanted to get guys
- 7:03Speaker 3: that they knew and they felt comfortable with, and they
- 7:06Speaker 3: wanted to retain them.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So are these guys good enough? Are we Are we
- 7:12Speaker 2: signing the familiar or signing guys who we really think
- 7:16Speaker 2: can help us win football games? I think, I mean,
- 7:18Speaker 2: I know, if I'm a Patriots coach and I'm laughing
- 7:21Speaker 2: at what I just said, but you know, I'm comparing
- 7:24Speaker 2: it to the rest of the league. You know, it's
- 7:26Speaker 2: a good question.
- 7:27Speaker 5: I feel like we talked about some of this, some
- 7:28Speaker 5: of it last Thursday with Remandre being re signed, It's like,
- 7:32Speaker 5: did you really need to do that? Because I think
- 7:34Speaker 5: we talked about how a lot of these running backs
- 7:36Speaker 5: have just been rotating teams, Like, you really don't need
- 7:39Speaker 5: to re sign Remandre. You can go find another one,
- 7:41Speaker 5: you can draft another one.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Does a young staff, you know, gravitate more towards signing
- 7:50Speaker 2: the familiar guys that we know that know us. Now
- 7:54Speaker 2: Alex van Pelt doesn't know these guys, but Gerard certainly does,
- 7:57Speaker 2: and Elliott knows them, and you know, is that you know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: is that not just convenient, but it you know, it's
- 8:06Speaker 2: the familiar, It's it's something that we know who they are.
- 8:10Speaker 2: We don't want to be starting with new players and
- 8:12Speaker 2: having you know, let's let's just go with what we know.
- 8:15Speaker 7: I think there's a little bit of that, and I
- 8:17Speaker 7: think that was the point that I kind of made
- 8:19Speaker 7: on Remandre of you know, next year, you could just,
- 8:22Speaker 7: as Tamara said, go into the musical chairs of the
- 8:24Speaker 7: running backs and probably you know, pay someone similar and
- 8:27Speaker 7: and maybe they're just trying to get ahead of that.
- 8:30Speaker 7: On Tavai, I would just say he can play on
- 8:32Speaker 7: my defense. Anytime there's a handful of guys him, Pepper's Barmore,
- 8:36Speaker 7: you know, Gonzales that that. I just I think they're
- 8:39Speaker 7: they're ballish their players, and you know, I like him.
- 8:41Speaker 7: I think he's physical, So I don't know about that.
- 8:44Speaker 7: I can see a little.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Let me go back to Remondre because I think a
- 8:47Speaker 2: lot of people had that same question. That's a running back.
- 8:49Speaker 2: You know, now if it was Christian McCaffrey, you'd be no,
- 8:52Speaker 2: no question right, Well he's a running back. Now, Remandre
- 8:56Speaker 2: Stevenson isn't Christian McCaffrey. But this contractors of those kinds argument,
- 9:00Speaker 2: but this contract is in Christian McCaffrey's either no but ken,
- 9:06Speaker 2: but Ken. Remondre be a mini Christian McCaffrey in that
- 9:10Speaker 2: he is a dual threat. He's a threat in the
- 9:13Speaker 2: passing game and in the running. Can he be that player?
- 9:16Speaker 7: I think a little bit, But I just I mean,
- 9:18Speaker 7: I think McCaffrey is another level. He is and I'm
- 9:21Speaker 7: not Hes got the explosiveness that I think that's what
- 9:24Speaker 7: makes him so much more valuable. I think we have seen,
- 9:26Speaker 7: you know, examples of kind of Remandre with surprising explosiveness
- 9:30Speaker 7: and surprising kind.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Of getaway ability. And that's kind of the pot not
- 9:33Speaker 2: when you have a guy that could be a dual threat,
- 9:37Speaker 2: does it make re signing him more sense than if
- 9:41Speaker 2: he was just a running back? I think so.
- 9:43Speaker 7: But the hard part for out of this question is
- 9:45Speaker 7: that do you really want Remandre to be a three
- 9:47Speaker 7: down running back? Do you want to run him into
- 9:48Speaker 7: the ground. Do you want him to be the primary
- 9:50Speaker 7: guy or do you think he's best served with a
- 9:52Speaker 7: group of three guys where he can be an early
- 9:54Speaker 7: down guy with some rotation and then there's a third
- 9:56Speaker 7: down back.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Because he's a potential three down player, doesn't mean he
- 10:00Speaker 2: has to play three downs all of them. Yeah, right,
- 10:02Speaker 2: But the fact is he can be on the field
- 10:06Speaker 2: in any situation and I think that increases his value
- 10:09Speaker 2: as a running back a little bit. Yeah.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I just don't think Stevenson impacts the passing game much.
- 10:14Speaker 3: He catches a lot of passes, he doesn't make any place.
- 10:17Speaker 3: And we had when you were on vacation last week.
- 10:21Speaker 3: I actually ran the numbers and there are five or
- 10:27Speaker 3: six now the number is escaping me. Running backs over
- 10:32Speaker 3: the last two years that caught more passes than Stevenson.
- 10:35Speaker 3: There's only five or six. It's McCaffrey, Camara, Rashard White,
- 10:40Speaker 3: Joe Mixon, Austin Eckler.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I think those are the pretty good company.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Okay, they all blow him away, they all blow They're
- 10:48Speaker 3: all at least a yard more per reception. Yeah, they
- 10:51Speaker 3: have the minimum of five touchdowns in that time. Remindro
- 10:54Speaker 3: Stevenson has won. There's no comparison between the impact and
- 10:58Speaker 3: the passing game between those guys and Stevenson. Stevenson catches
- 11:01Speaker 3: passes and that's it. Okay, those guys catch passes.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Maybe had those guys quarterback, would he have better production? No,
- 11:09Speaker 2: I don't think so. He's not explosive in space. I'm
- 11:12Speaker 2: with Paul.
- 11:12Speaker 7: I think he's more a guy that can play third
- 11:14Speaker 7: down and ken fill in in that role, and I
- 11:16Speaker 7: think that's what he's done the last couple of years.
- 11:17Speaker 7: But it's not really I don't think he's best suited
- 11:19Speaker 7: being a three down round. I think he's best served
- 11:21Speaker 7: as an early down running back with a rotational piece
- 11:24Speaker 7: with him that can kind of help him throughout the sea.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I like the idea of Antonio Gibson in that role
- 11:28Speaker 3: this year that they didn't have last year much better.
- 11:31Speaker 3: And I also will say, in fairness, we didn't know
- 11:34Speaker 3: the numbers on the contract when we talked about it
- 11:37Speaker 3: last week. We do now. The contract's fine. We all
- 11:40Speaker 3: said it last week. We said, you know, it's not
- 11:42Speaker 3: going to be it was, you know, four years, thirty
- 11:44Speaker 3: six million. We all assumed there's no way it's really
- 11:47Speaker 3: thirty six million seventeen was the guarantee. We've seen the
- 11:50Speaker 3: breakdown now, it's not a it's not a bad contract.
- 11:53Speaker 2: For the team.
- 11:54Speaker 3: It's very affordable numbers. His average annual value puts him
- 11:58Speaker 3: sixth in the league among running backs, but he's I
- 12:02Speaker 3: think it's like six million base salary and eight million
- 12:05Speaker 3: base salary the last two years, two years that he's
- 12:08Speaker 3: probably not going to see, you know, so it's very
- 12:10Speaker 3: little in the way of upfront guaranteed money. So it's
- 12:13Speaker 3: I think it's a fine contract. I think you made
- 12:15Speaker 3: the point off the year, Freddy. They don't really have
- 12:18Speaker 3: any running backs. Like it's kind of like Hunter Henry.
- 12:20Speaker 3: You can love Hunter Henry as a player, well, you
- 12:22Speaker 3: could hate him, didn't matter. They didn't have any tight ends.
- 12:25Speaker 3: You had to retain him, and I kind of think
- 12:28Speaker 3: they had to retain Stevenson too.
- 12:30Speaker 4: So I just quick because everybody knows how I feel
- 12:33Speaker 4: about Rimandre in the contract. Didn't love it, Yeah, I know,
- 12:36Speaker 4: but there's a difference between, Like, you know, he can
- 12:40Speaker 4: still catch passes on first and second down, right, and
- 12:43Speaker 4: I feel like that is an element that he will bring,
- 12:46Speaker 4: is that he is at least a somewhat of a
- 12:49Speaker 4: threat that if they want to spread it out or
- 12:51Speaker 4: if they want to, you know, run him off play
- 12:53Speaker 4: action and he's just a little check down over the
- 12:55Speaker 4: middle of the deep options aren't open on first down,
- 12:58Speaker 4: second down, he's going to be there.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Now.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Is he a dynamic third down running back? No, but
- 13:02Speaker 4: there's still value that he brings into the passing game
- 13:05Speaker 4: on first and second.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Anything the Patriots can do to help them be a
- 13:08Speaker 2: little bit less predictable on offense is a good thing.
- 13:12Speaker 7: Right, It's not blunt and white where that was just hey,
- 13:15Speaker 7: blunts out here, you know. So I think in Tevin's point,
- 13:17Speaker 7: it does it does offer some you know, it's some
- 13:19Speaker 7: concern with the defense that all right, this this could
- 13:22Speaker 7: easily be a screen pass that they could easily spread us.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Out and let him run around the talk about matchups
- 13:26Speaker 4: all the time of like if you come out in
- 13:29Speaker 4: a heavier package and they match you with bass, which
- 13:31Speaker 4: doesn't happen very much anymore, but if they do match
- 13:33Speaker 4: you with base, if then you go five wide into
- 13:36Speaker 4: empty and now Remondre has got a linebacker on him somewhere,
- 13:39Speaker 4: and now that's a matchup that you could potentially work.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Like those types of things do you present themselves?
- 13:43Speaker 7: Yeah, I just say one last point, Fred is I mean,
- 13:46Speaker 7: Fred Paul mentioned this, you know, the three year deals.
- 13:48Speaker 2: A lot of three year deals.
- 13:49Speaker 7: It just seems like Elliott Wolf, you know, and and
- 13:52Speaker 7: when you talk about the Remondre deal too, I almost
- 13:54Speaker 7: wonder if it's more about sending a message, you know,
- 13:57Speaker 7: not so much given the contract, but sending the message
- 13:59Speaker 7: of with somebody like Ramandre, who again you're reinforcing this
- 14:03Speaker 7: is a guy that's been around and you know, we're
- 14:04Speaker 7: gonna keep him around.
- 14:05Speaker 2: And so I.
- 14:06Speaker 7: Think they've done that a lot with with a few
- 14:08Speaker 7: different guys and now with you know, Tavai as well.
- 14:10Speaker 7: So I just I think that's the biggest impression for me,
- 14:13Speaker 7: that message of three I.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Know Elliott Wolf has said, you know, at the end
- 14:16Speaker 2: of the day. These are going to be my decisions.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I'm the final say he said that, But how much
- 14:21Speaker 2: do you think these are drawed wishes, like, Hey, Elliott,
- 14:27Speaker 2: I need my circle the Wagon guys. On defense, I
- 14:30Speaker 2: need I need these guys signed figure it out.
- 14:32Speaker 7: I mean I could see Mayo going about for Tavai.
- 14:35Speaker 7: I mean, I could you know, certainly the linebacker position.
- 14:37Speaker 7: But I mean it's it's hard to say on offense
- 14:40Speaker 7: because you know, Gerard Is admitted it's kind of Alex
- 14:42Speaker 7: van Pelt's show, so it's hard to.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Well it is. But I'm talking more locker room. I'm
- 14:46Speaker 2: not talking about the field. I'm talking about the guys
- 14:49Speaker 2: I want in my locker room, the self policing guys.
- 14:53Speaker 2: You know, I remember, you know, Ernie Adams said it,
- 14:56Speaker 2: and maybe even Dante said it. How did you know
- 14:59Speaker 2: when you had a good team, when the locker room
- 15:02Speaker 2: started policing itself? You know?
- 15:05Speaker 5: Yeah? And I think I do think you have to
- 15:06Speaker 5: worry about that too. When you're losing guys like Devin
- 15:08Speaker 5: mccorty two years ago, Slater last year, it's like, who
- 15:12Speaker 5: is taking that role of being the leader of this
- 15:14Speaker 5: locker room?
- 15:15Speaker 2: Ye, and leaders you know, there needs to be more
- 15:18Speaker 2: than one.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I do, and that's why I agree with Mike about Tavai.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I think he's one of those kinds of guys and
- 15:24Speaker 3: you might not think of him as, you know, a
- 15:25Speaker 3: guy that's standing on a chair, you know, getting everybody
- 15:29Speaker 3: whooped into a frenzy. But I do think he's very
- 15:31Speaker 3: professional and very respected. David Andrews similar kind of thing
- 15:35Speaker 3: on offense.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Example, he's a hard had guy.
- 15:39Speaker 4: He's he's going to come to work, he's gonna work hard,
- 15:41Speaker 4: he's gonna do his job, you know.
- 15:43Speaker 2: And I was at the combine.
- 15:44Speaker 4: When we were at the combine, you're just talking to
- 15:47Speaker 4: people around the league as they say, you know, media people.
- 15:51Speaker 2: You know, who's scribes, who do you like?
- 15:53Speaker 4: You know on the Patriots that doesn't get enough love.
- 15:56Speaker 4: There's so many Jelani Devai answers, like of the people
- 15:59Speaker 4: that are like me that are are you know watching
- 16:02Speaker 4: film till wee hours of the night for no reason?
- 16:04Speaker 2: You know, so many.
- 16:05Speaker 4: People watching the Patriot Conor McDermot uh and the Connor
- 16:10Speaker 4: mc Yeah. Jelanie Devais has talked about a lot as
- 16:14Speaker 4: being extremely underrated player on the Patriots defense obviously, you know,
- 16:19Speaker 4: do slate it out well, wears a lot of different hats,
- 16:21Speaker 4: can play on or off the line of scrimmage. But
- 16:23Speaker 4: then last year, you know, before it was a lot
- 16:26Speaker 4: of dirty work type stuff that doesn't show up in
- 16:28Speaker 4: the statute. Last year he added splash plays in there too,
- 16:31Speaker 4: and it kind of took that next step as well.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Uh pff.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Not for everybody, but fourth ranked linebacker in the league
- 16:38Speaker 4: last year, off ball linebacker, you know, like true inside linebacker.
- 16:43Speaker 7: I think I think you learned a little bit about
- 16:45Speaker 7: him last year too, with just how hard the season was,
- 16:48Speaker 7: and you know, the face that he put forward, the
- 16:50Speaker 7: effort that he put forward, and you know, he was
- 16:52Speaker 7: still one of those guys kind of bringing the intensity.
- 16:54Speaker 2: So I've the best defensive material lineman in gotcha, We've
- 16:58Speaker 2: got the best off ball line Bill said that. I said,
- 17:01Speaker 2: not not anybody else. And potentially you get the best
- 17:04Speaker 2: cornerbacks in Gonzales right out right elite elite. Yeah, they
- 17:08Speaker 2: won four games. Yeah, what happened.
- 17:11Speaker 4: And I I I get he's not He's not Fred Warner,
- 17:15Speaker 4: all right, and induces right that you know, the stuff
- 17:17Speaker 4: in space and things like that still aren't a real
- 17:19Speaker 4: strength of his but he's improved a lot in space
- 17:23Speaker 4: and in coverage with his reads and his anticipation and
- 17:25Speaker 4: stuff like that to make up for the fact that
- 17:27Speaker 4: he's two hundred and fifty pounds playing you know, eight
- 17:30Speaker 4: nine yards off the line of scrimmage at times, but
- 17:32Speaker 4: really really solid player, like not going to.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Go crazy solid.
- 17:36Speaker 4: But the contract doesn't go crazy. You know, I hate
- 17:40Speaker 4: the reminderary contract. I actually really like this, this deal.
- 17:43Speaker 3: I think to one of those contract a little less
- 17:46Speaker 3: now than you the breakdown, I would like it well
- 17:51Speaker 3: better than me to appreciate stubborness.
- 17:53Speaker 2: But like Paul's this is what Paul said, I don't
- 17:56Speaker 2: care about a contract as as long as it doesn't
- 17:57Speaker 2: stop me from doing something else, and I don't think
- 18:00Speaker 2: this does. No, So like, what would you hate about.
- 18:03Speaker 5: Would you hate it less if he was producing a
- 18:04Speaker 5: thousand yards a season?
- 18:07Speaker 2: No, he doesn't like running backs? And how is he.
- 18:11Speaker 5: Receiving yards or like half and half if it was
- 18:14Speaker 5: like half rushing half receiving.
- 18:17Speaker 4: I just the biggest thing to me, And you're you're
- 18:21Speaker 4: all right about the fact that the contract doesn't prohibit
- 18:23Speaker 4: them from doing anything else in the future. That's fair,
- 18:26Speaker 4: But I also think you need to evaluate is this
- 18:29Speaker 4: player worth the money that you're paying him, just in
- 18:32Speaker 4: a vacuum, like, is this guy gonna be worth it?
- 18:34Speaker 4: And based off of what we know about running backs,
- 18:37Speaker 4: he has two good years left.
- 18:39Speaker 2: That would be my big fear, all right.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I think you saw signs of him already showing the
- 18:43Speaker 3: effects of the physical toll. It took two years ago,
- 18:46Speaker 3: right when more numbers. Freddy Evan had these yards after
- 18:52Speaker 3: contact two years ago, fell by over a yard from
- 18:57Speaker 3: twenty two to twenty three. I don't think that's a coincident.
- 19:00Speaker 3: That's not just because the offensive line struggled.
- 19:03Speaker 2: No, But I the total ineptitude of the offense I
- 19:07Speaker 2: think affected everybody. Yeah, you know, offense is bad.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I mean there's no two ways about it. The offense
- 19:14Speaker 3: has been bad for two years.
- 19:15Speaker 2: It just is. I'm going to make a bold prediction
- 19:19Speaker 2: Ramondre Stevenson will have a better year this year than
- 19:21Speaker 2: last year.
- 19:22Speaker 5: That's not that bold.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I'm just That's why I kind of said it facetiously.
- 19:27Speaker 2: I don't think I'm going on in a limb by
- 19:29Speaker 2: saying he's going to have better numbers and a better
- 19:32Speaker 2: year overall strategy course, of course.
- 19:37Speaker 3: But that's a question I would tell you I'm not
- 19:40Speaker 3: sure of that average wise, Yeah, he missed whatever, what
- 19:43Speaker 3: was like the last six games something that. Yeah, Like,
- 19:46Speaker 3: let's just say he plays all seventeen. Obviously his numbers
- 19:49Speaker 3: are going to be you know, his flat numbers, his totals, well.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Well, his averages.
- 19:52Speaker 3: But I think he will be about what he was.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I think I think he kind of ague with Evan.
- 19:57Speaker 3: I think you've seen about what he marked my worst
- 20:00Speaker 3: I just tape Evan.
- 20:02Speaker 7: I'm kind of curious to dive into this a little
- 20:04Speaker 7: bit with you though, because I mean I like what
- 20:06Speaker 7: you say. I mean, you know, with like Saquon, you know,
- 20:08Speaker 7: some of the running back movement, we talk about that, Like,
- 20:11Speaker 7: do you think that that's all just bs? Like all
- 20:13Speaker 7: those teams are fooling themselves thinking that, like the Eagles
- 20:15Speaker 7: are gonna get a better version of Saquan or all
- 20:18Speaker 7: those guys kind of buying high on somebody who should
- 20:21Speaker 7: be on the back slope. I mean, you know what
- 20:22Speaker 7: I mean, do you extrapolate that to kind of the.
- 20:24Speaker 4: Rest There are definitely some arguments of like that it's
- 20:28Speaker 4: scheme dependent, right, So Saquon Barkley on the Giants was
- 20:34Speaker 4: the guy that everybody was game planning for every single week.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Now on the Eagles, he's gonna have Aj Brown on
- 20:39Speaker 4: one side, Devonte Smith, Dallas Goddard, like there's gonna be
- 20:42Speaker 4: other weapons.
- 20:43Speaker 2: And a running thread at quarterback.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Yeah, and a running thread at quarterback that there's gonna
- 20:46Speaker 4: be other weapons that maybe some of the attentions off
- 20:48Speaker 4: of him and his efficiency goes back up. The biggest
- 20:51Speaker 4: thing that we see with running backs in terms of production,
- 20:54Speaker 4: outside of the lone exception right now currently being Christian McCaffrey,
- 20:59Speaker 4: is that there's really no difference on a volume, you know,
- 21:04Speaker 4: sort of stat metric level between Sakuon Barkley, Josh Jacobs,
- 21:10Speaker 4: you know, Aaron Jones, Romandre Stevenson, YadA, YadA, YadA, that
- 21:15Speaker 4: those guys are not adding anything to the table on
- 21:18Speaker 4: their own, whereas like, yes, they might be more productive
- 21:22Speaker 4: within the confines of an offense, because the Packers offense
- 21:25Speaker 4: is way better than the Patriots offense. But realistically, if
- 21:30Speaker 4: you had put Ramondre Stevenson on last year's Packers offense
- 21:34Speaker 4: and Aaron Jones's role, he probably would have produced similar
- 21:37Speaker 4: numbers to what Aaron Jones produced, which is why this
- 21:40Speaker 4: offseason there's this musical chairs of like, oh, if you're
- 21:42Speaker 4: gonna take our guy, we'll just take your guy, because
- 21:44Speaker 4: they're all the same.
- 21:45Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 21:46Speaker 7: And at the end of the day, maybe the Patriots
- 21:48Speaker 7: just wanted to stick with their own guy that they've
- 21:50Speaker 7: kind of been dealing with.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's why I'm fine with the contract and
- 21:54Speaker 3: the fact that they had no running backs. To Fred's point,
- 21:57Speaker 3: I don't know, you know, if you could just snap
- 22:00Speaker 3: your fingers and.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Bringing somebody, you know, just bringing the guy. You know,
- 22:06Speaker 2: it's a good citizen. You know, there's intangibles that you're
- 22:09Speaker 2: not gonna get or you don't know that you're gonna
- 22:11Speaker 2: get with somebody from the outside. So I think it's
- 22:14Speaker 2: a no harm hopefully contract hopefully no harm. Yeah. Yeah,
- 22:19Speaker 2: And and you're getting a guy who I think is
- 22:22Speaker 2: really going to help the team, So let's do it.
- 22:24Speaker 5: And I think with Gibson being here too, that he
- 22:26Speaker 5: won't have so much of a load to carry by himself.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Not saying it didn't help him.
- 22:31Speaker 2: A lot of a lot of times those loads happened
- 22:33Speaker 2: because of injuries. Yeah, that's the thing. That's always the thing.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I remember having discussions and old shows, Well they got
- 22:40Speaker 2: six guys at running back, how are they going to
- 22:42Speaker 2: use them all? And people get hurt and they eventually
- 22:45Speaker 2: use them all.
- 22:45Speaker 7: Well, that's what's concerning to me, just about having, you know,
- 22:47Speaker 7: just two guys that are basically NFL proven players because
- 22:51Speaker 7: they always get hurt and at least in the past,
- 22:53Speaker 7: you could say, you know, I think probably Hope is
- 22:55Speaker 7: running out for Kevin Harris, but you know, Pierre Woods
- 22:57Speaker 7: or Pierre Strong, sorry Peer Woods. Super Bowl forty two
- 23:00Speaker 7: was on the other night, which I ended up watching.
- 23:02Speaker 7: That's a whole lot of story.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I don't know. It was just on I just and like,
- 23:05Speaker 2: I don't know, and like it in all honesty.
- 23:07Speaker 7: After the Brady night, I just feel like it's all
- 23:09Speaker 7: gravy and I'm like, this was great, Like, look at
- 23:10Speaker 7: this guy's going to eighteen and.
- 23:12Speaker 2: One, you know, but.
- 23:16Speaker 7: With some of these guys on the roster, I mean,
- 23:18Speaker 7: you know, Jamichael Hasty like is I mean, I don't
- 23:20Speaker 7: think it's hard to imagine that we're getting to a
- 23:22Speaker 7: point in October where like a big game out of
- 23:24Speaker 7: Jamichael Hasty tonight because Romandra got hurt or Gibson got hurt,
- 23:28Speaker 7: and you're quickly into this unproven depth and it's not
- 23:30Speaker 7: even like you have a couple of rookies to say, well,
- 23:32Speaker 7: you know, and then usually that's fool's gold anyway, I'll
- 23:35Speaker 7: just throw the rookie in. But still, at least you
- 23:37Speaker 7: you know, a couple years ago you had two young
- 23:38Speaker 7: running backs.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Have you gone? JJ Taylor? Yeah?
- 23:41Speaker 7: Right, I know, no, right, And even he got thrown
- 23:43Speaker 7: into things a little bit a couple of years ago.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Hasty does have some experience too. And then this
- 23:49Speaker 3: is like the running back is the anti wide receiver
- 23:52Speaker 3: for the Patriots. The receivers they have, you know, a
- 23:55Speaker 3: couple of young guys that are promising, a couple of
- 23:58Speaker 3: veterans who've been around, a couple of veterans who are
- 24:00Speaker 3: looking to shake off disappointment, and then they have like
- 24:04Speaker 3: four or five like unknown like undrafted rookies, and like
- 24:08Speaker 3: they have everything. There's like twelve of them running back.
- 24:11Speaker 3: There's nobody even like there's no even names on the roster.
- 24:15Speaker 2: It's it's Stevens.
- 24:17Speaker 3: There's like five I think there's five total, yeah, May six,
- 24:23Speaker 3: Fenwick In, Jennings, Terrell, jennings in, Deshaun Fenwick or the two.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:30Speaker 3: But I picked him nobody right now, but I picked
- 24:33Speaker 3: him as one of my my possible you know, undrafted
- 24:36Speaker 3: free agents. Because of that, I think there's opportunity. But
- 24:39Speaker 3: just the last usually you have, you know, four or
- 24:41Speaker 3: five guys you don't know anything about. Maybe one of
- 24:44Speaker 3: them will flash. They have literally two guys that you
- 24:46Speaker 3: don't know anything about.
- 24:48Speaker 2: So I want to get into some NFL things too.
- 24:49Speaker 2: But you know what, if you want to see Toyota's
- 24:51Speaker 2: best offers, including those not seen on TV, go to
- 24:54Speaker 2: buy at toyota dot com. It's Toyota's official website for
- 24:58Speaker 2: deals from the official vehicle of the New England New
- 25:01Speaker 2: England Patriots, Toyota. Let's go to the fourth of I
- 25:06Speaker 2: don't know. Fireworks, Yeah, we had them in our town
- 25:10Speaker 2: Saturday night. Poor dog had a hard night.
- 25:15Speaker 5: Aren't the fireworks tonight here?
- 25:17Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 25:18Speaker 2: At Foxborough?
- 25:19Speaker 6: Yeah, and then you can catch fireworks after the Revs
- 25:21Speaker 6: tomorrow night.
- 25:22Speaker 2: And while you're here, it's easy to drink, it's easy
- 25:26Speaker 2: to enjoy. But like the official beer sponsor Patriots, uh so,
- 25:34Speaker 2: I do want to talk a little bit about we
- 25:37Speaker 2: were two weeks ago, we were talking about the quarterback
- 25:39Speaker 2: contracts and how they've kind of gone crazy. Why haven't
- 25:44Speaker 2: the Cowboys signed Dak Prescott yet, or you know, extend
- 25:48Speaker 2: I'm gonna defer to Evan that he's the DA guy.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I have no idea. Are they waiting for something or
- 25:55Speaker 2: are they just have cold feet, Jerry Joe cold.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Feet Unless there's the only possible thing that I can
- 26:03Speaker 4: come up with is that they know something about Dak's
- 26:06Speaker 4: personality behind the scenes.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Whatever is he going to be out there next year?
- 26:10Speaker 2: Is he going to be available for a team next year.
- 26:12Speaker 2: It's possible.
- 26:13Speaker 5: I could see a Kirk Cousins type of thing happening
- 26:15Speaker 5: to Dak next year.
- 26:18Speaker 4: There's nothing on the field, yeah, other than what Paul
- 26:22Speaker 4: will probably say about winning in.
- 26:23Speaker 2: The playoffs, but there's not. I think that's a big thing.
- 26:26Speaker 4: There's nothing on the film though about him as an
- 26:29Speaker 4: actual quarterback and the plays that he makes.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Cadence though, that's that's kind of it that suggests he's
- 26:35Speaker 2: not worth I expect him to sign. I expect too
- 26:38Speaker 2: to sign, but I do think there's probably some cold
- 26:41Speaker 2: feet for Dallas.
- 26:42Speaker 5: Yeah, but also, you can't I feel like you can't
- 26:44Speaker 5: use the winning in the playoffs thing, because what has
- 26:47Speaker 5: Trevor Lawrence done that he got his contract.
- 26:50Speaker 2: You know, because well he's younger. Dak already got that, right,
- 26:54Speaker 2: he's Trevor's now this is his first contract after being
- 26:58Speaker 2: a rookie. You know, Dak has been out there longer.
- 27:02Speaker 2: You know, this is now his third count will be
- 27:04Speaker 2: his third cut.
- 27:05Speaker 5: But also, I'm like, you're not going to get a
- 27:06Speaker 5: top four draft pick to draft a quarterback next year.
- 27:08Speaker 5: And also we talked about last show that the quarterbacks
- 27:11Speaker 5: next year aren't even that great, so you might as
- 27:13Speaker 5: well just keep Dak.
- 27:15Speaker 2: But it's it's going to be a big money I
- 27:16Speaker 2: think that will happen.
- 27:18Speaker 8: I do.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I think that will happen.
- 27:19Speaker 3: But they're believe it or not, they're rolling the dice
- 27:24Speaker 3: that if he can't get us over the hump when
- 27:27Speaker 3: he's missed games in the recent past, they've won with
- 27:31Speaker 3: a guy named Cooper Rush. So if that's all it
- 27:34Speaker 3: takes to just win without winning in the playoffs, and
- 27:37Speaker 3: we're not winning in the playoffs, why are we paying
- 27:40Speaker 3: him fifty five million a year.
- 27:41Speaker 4: It's the top ten quarterback in the league.
- 27:44Speaker 2: I I sort of agree with you.
- 27:46Speaker 3: I would pay I would pay him the money because
- 27:48Speaker 3: I think you can do a lot worse. But that
- 27:51Speaker 3: would be the augument on the other side. I'm trying
- 27:52Speaker 3: to play a little debt to her. John I think
- 27:55Speaker 3: he does. I think you said yes with cold feet.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I agree.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Do you think they're a fill in position away from
- 28:01Speaker 5: winning or is it all because of DAK they're winning.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I think it's all because of the coach. Well, but
- 28:06Speaker 2: that's honest. I think the coach is a problem.
- 28:08Speaker 3: But last year, in that playoff game, DAK sucked and
- 28:11Speaker 3: they fell behind because DAK sucks, But the first half of.
- 28:13Speaker 4: The yached on both sides of them.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Yep, absolutely, they absolutely did. See I That's what I
- 28:19Speaker 2: was gonna say. You can't blame it on his supporting cast.
- 28:22Speaker 2: They have enough play, they have enough players to but
- 28:24Speaker 2: the coaching has been an issue.
- 28:26Speaker 4: They did a really really good job schematically with that
- 28:29Speaker 4: offense last year. They especially the second half of the
- 28:32Speaker 4: season when they really started to take off. I'll give
- 28:34Speaker 4: McCarthy credit for the x's and o's, like, hey, they tried,
- 28:38Speaker 4: they did some different things and they were able to
- 28:40Speaker 4: get the offense. But in game, you know, big games
- 28:43Speaker 4: like that, you know, when the chips are in the middle,
- 28:46Speaker 4: like he just McCarthy just seems to get a little
- 28:49Speaker 4: bit of a Do.
- 28:50Speaker 5: You think that Jerry Jones would be willing to keep
- 28:53Speaker 5: Dak but switch the coach or do you think he's
- 28:55Speaker 5: just like Jerry Jones.
- 28:57Speaker 2: You know, everyone talks about him being you know this
- 29:00Speaker 2: this guy that you're always on the hot seat. But
- 29:03Speaker 2: it takes him a long time to make change.
- 29:05Speaker 3: But you know why that is, because why he surrounds
- 29:08Speaker 3: himself with bobo's. Well, yeah, that's if he wants the
- 29:10Speaker 3: bobo that's bowing at his feet. I agree, that's why
- 29:13Speaker 3: he doesn't fire.
- 29:15Speaker 2: That's why. But this is it.
- 29:16Speaker 3: If they don't win a playoff game this year, there's
- 29:17Speaker 3: no way McCarthy, he's a lamb ducky your coach right now.
- 29:21Speaker 5: Do you think a guy like Bill is someone they
- 29:23Speaker 5: would go after you be like, okay, we're.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Bringing Bill for absolutely. I said it before, and I
- 29:27Speaker 2: don't know this for sure, but I think that they
- 29:30Speaker 2: made offers to him or showed their interest last year.
- 29:33Speaker 2: And I think Bill because of his head coach, you know,
- 29:37Speaker 2: the fraternity of being in the head coach said you've
- 29:39Speaker 2: got a head coach, I'm not going to talk to
- 29:41Speaker 2: you until you don't have a head coach. I'm not
- 29:43Speaker 2: going to disrespect a fellow head coach by doing something
- 29:46Speaker 2: back door while he's still there. He'd never do anything
- 29:49Speaker 2: like that, no, listen, I think and I think Bill
- 29:53Speaker 2: has shown. Bill has shown there's certain areas where he
- 29:57Speaker 2: has a lot of principle uh, and I think this
- 29:59Speaker 2: is one of them. Like, I'm not going to disrespect
- 30:01Speaker 2: a head coach by doing something. If you want, if
- 30:04Speaker 2: you're gonna fire him and you have a vacancy, I'd
- 30:06Speaker 2: be happy to talk. And so in the case where
- 30:09Speaker 2: next year, if they do get rid of them, I
- 30:11Speaker 2: think the I think they would talk to Bill, and
- 30:13Speaker 2: I think Bill would, especially if they're gonna resign Dak
- 30:16Speaker 2: because now it's like our windows open. We've got to
- 30:20Speaker 2: do it now. Bill's not gonna be here for long term.
- 30:23Speaker 2: We're we're signing this guy to be our head coach
- 30:26Speaker 2: to win Now. I think it's the equivalent of bringing
- 30:29Speaker 2: in a high price free agent at wide receiver just
- 30:33Speaker 2: to get you over the hump.
- 30:34Speaker 7: It makes it makes a lot of sense to me,
- 30:36Speaker 7: And I mean, I find myself too, wondering how you know,
- 30:39Speaker 7: various people in the league might view Bill after this
- 30:42Speaker 7: spring where you know, he kind of he came off
- 30:44Speaker 7: well in the roast, he came off well in Brady
- 30:46Speaker 7: and I you know, he's kind of making the rounds
- 30:47Speaker 7: Like I just I wonder if that's gonna have any
- 30:49Speaker 7: impact on kind of brushing aside alas.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Has a very good cheerleading squad.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Oh, I know, we could go to so I know
- 30:59Speaker 3: you're making a joke, but I'm out there, but I
- 31:01Speaker 3: think you're naive if you think that's not going to
- 31:03Speaker 3: negatively impact him.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I think I think you're right, I think, but knowing
- 31:09Speaker 2: these owners and how the dogs that they are, maybe
- 31:12Speaker 2: not Paul, and they don't want it public. No, they
- 31:14Speaker 2: don't want it public. But that's public. Yeah, I know,
- 31:17Speaker 2: I know, But like they can understand where Bill's coming from.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Oh no, no, no, I'm not telling you.
- 31:23Speaker 3: I'm not understand where you're coming from. I'm not telling
- 31:26Speaker 3: you that these owners, particularly that one like thanks worse
- 31:32Speaker 3: of Bill BELLI I'm not sorry, But they think very
- 31:34Speaker 3: highly of the public perception I know, and they're fiercely
- 31:38Speaker 3: protective of that.
- 31:39Speaker 2: I agree, and I don't think they want to bring
- 31:41Speaker 2: that in. Knowing we bring that in, who.
- 31:43Speaker 5: Knows, maybe this time next year they'll be married, and.
- 31:47Speaker 2: You know, is that better or worse than what's going
- 31:49Speaker 2: on now?
- 31:50Speaker 4: I can we bring it back to football because I'm
- 31:52Speaker 4: not I'm not touching now with a ten football. The
- 31:56Speaker 4: real question to Bill, to me is who's your offensive coordinator?
- 32:00Speaker 4: And how involved are you going to be on that
- 32:02Speaker 4: side of the ball. If it's Josh with Dak, I'm in.
- 32:07Speaker 4: But Josh is running the offense, oh yeah?
- 32:09Speaker 2: Like and Bill would have no problem with that.
- 32:11Speaker 4: I don't know that.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I would think. I mean, by all accounts,
- 32:16Speaker 3: multiple reports, you.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Could have Dak Prescott Josh. Yeah, you know.
- 32:22Speaker 3: I just that's gotta be the first thing Bill does
- 32:25Speaker 3: his trade trade Mike apart. I didn't have a guy
- 32:28Speaker 3: with that much.
- 32:28Speaker 2: I just wonder how he put a staff together.
- 32:30Speaker 7: I mean it was it was so small here, and
- 32:32Speaker 7: there's so few guys that he appears to trust. A
- 32:36Speaker 7: lot of guys have jobs now. How Like Josh is
- 32:39Speaker 7: an easy one, but does he really get the whole
- 32:41Speaker 7: band back together with Maddy p A lot.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Of his guys don't have to figure it out.
- 32:45Speaker 7: His like six guys that don't have jobs right now,
- 32:47Speaker 7: that's his staff, like because he doesn't want to try
- 32:49Speaker 7: anybody new or anything like that does more with less.
- 32:52Speaker 4: That was the rumor when he was on the coaching
- 32:55Speaker 4: carousel with the Falcons and stuff like, that was the
- 32:58Speaker 4: Belichick All Pro staff. It was gonna be Bill Belichick
- 33:02Speaker 4: head coach, McDaniels, O C, Patricia d C, Joe Judge,
- 33:05Speaker 4: special teams and they were going to bring the band
- 33:07Speaker 4: bat together.
- 33:10Speaker 2: But listen, and again, it's for when Now it's it's
- 33:14Speaker 2: a short term fix for Dallas.
- 33:15Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I would just worry, and I love Josh,
- 33:18Speaker 4: So if McDaniels is the answer, then maybe it's less worrisome.
- 33:22Speaker 4: But you can't watch the Patriots offense till his last
- 33:25Speaker 4: couple of years here and not be a little bit
- 33:26Speaker 4: concerned about what he would do with that side of
- 33:29Speaker 4: the ball.
- 33:29Speaker 2: So then Paul brought it up closer to home. Tua,
- 33:32Speaker 2: what's the situation in Miami?
- 33:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. You know, I know that he
- 33:38Speaker 3: is a little antsy. There was a report I think
- 33:41Speaker 3: Omark Kelly had it. I forget one of the Miami
- 33:44Speaker 3: guys just that that he had admitted that he's you know,
- 33:48Speaker 3: it's something he wants TUA and he's a little antsy
- 33:51Speaker 3: that that hasn't gotten much a little security. Yeah, so
- 33:54Speaker 3: he's playing on the fifty year option, which I understand,
- 33:56Speaker 3: like Miami would say, she's that would be great because
- 34:00Speaker 3: that's like basically half the going rate. But then you
- 34:03Speaker 3: run the risk of how does he play. Some guys
- 34:06Speaker 3: play lights out when they're in a contract year, So
- 34:09Speaker 3: some guys get completely freaked out by it. And I
- 34:11Speaker 3: don't think you want your quarterback with anything else on
- 34:14Speaker 3: his mind.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Especially with his injury. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, so.
- 34:19Speaker 3: I would give Yeah, that's the true for everybody. Last year,
- 34:23Speaker 3: McDaniel needs to win. So if to Paul's point, if
- 34:27Speaker 3: to his head is in a outer space because of
- 34:29Speaker 3: the contract situation, mcdan's.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Gonna get fired.
- 34:32Speaker 3: I expect that to happen. I expect him to both
- 34:35Speaker 3: both both Prescott and to I think we'll get their
- 34:39Speaker 3: extensions at some point, you know, I would say before
- 34:42Speaker 3: the start of the season, maybe when camp opens or
- 34:45Speaker 3: around that time.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Bigger odds to lose their job McCarthy in Dallas or
- 34:50Speaker 2: McDaniel in Miami. McCarthy.
- 34:52Speaker 4: Ary McCarthy is Alex Corra right now, one year left
- 34:55Speaker 4: on his deal.
- 34:56Speaker 3: I agree with with Evan that you have another eleven
- 35:00Speaker 3: and six year and don't do anything down the stretch.
- 35:02Speaker 3: McDaniel will feel some heat, but I don't think he's
- 35:05Speaker 3: gonna go. McCarthy can go, you know, eleven twelve wins
- 35:09Speaker 3: in the regular season. If he doesn't win a playoff game.
- 35:11Speaker 2: He's out.
- 35:12Speaker 3: He is gonna I mean, I think he's definitively gonna
- 35:15Speaker 3: be out. Andy's a lame duck as it is.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Right, there's so much talent on that team.
- 35:20Speaker 5: I was gonna say, it's so weird to see two
- 35:22Speaker 5: teams with so much talent and not be able to
- 35:24Speaker 5: do anything with it. Where you're like over here at
- 35:26Speaker 5: the Patriots, you would kill to have some of those players.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Miami doesn't have nearly Dallas' talent, like on both sides
- 35:32Speaker 3: of the boat. Now they have like the high the
- 35:34Speaker 3: high flyers like Hill and Waddle are tremendous. They don't
- 35:40Speaker 3: have the kind of talent that that Dallas has, though
- 35:42Speaker 3: they don't have a Micah Parsons on defense, McCarthy, I'm
- 35:48Speaker 3: with Evan like, I think McCarthy's kind of a bozo.
- 35:51Speaker 4: And he's a with all the stuff that we talk
- 35:54Speaker 4: about with Kyle Shanahan. It's like kind of in the
- 35:56Speaker 4: same category of just like managing the game, calling the game,
- 36:01Speaker 4: like seeing in the big picture and not getting caught
- 36:03Speaker 4: up in your play sheet, like time management, like all
- 36:06Speaker 4: that kind of stuff. It's just I think he's a
- 36:09Speaker 4: good offensive mind, but I don't know if he's a
- 36:11Speaker 4: good head coach.
- 36:11Speaker 3: The big thing that Miami has to do this year,
- 36:14Speaker 3: whether they win ultimately in January or not, they have
- 36:17Speaker 3: to find a way to become more consistent at the
- 36:22Speaker 3: end of the year. This is like two years in
- 36:24Speaker 3: a row now they've shot out like a cannon and
- 36:27Speaker 3: then peter to the finish line and weren't really ready
- 36:30Speaker 3: to play in the playoffs. Now, you can make an
- 36:32Speaker 3: excuse for them this past year and really extreme conditions
- 36:37Speaker 3: in Kansas City, but that doesn't excuse losing at home
- 36:40Speaker 3: in a Monday night game to Tennessee in December.
- 36:43Speaker 2: That was a bad loss.
- 36:45Speaker 3: They did not play as well down the stretch as
- 36:48Speaker 3: they did the first three months, and that's a trend.
- 36:51Speaker 3: And to Evan's point that gets attached to the coach
- 36:54Speaker 3: and that puts him on the hot seat.
- 36:56Speaker 2: And it's a trend with.
- 36:56Speaker 4: A lot of those types of coaches, with the offensive coaches,
- 36:59Speaker 4: because all off season there in the lab coming up
- 37:02Speaker 4: with all this crazy stuff that they're gonna throw at defenses,
- 37:04Speaker 4: and then you get into the second half of the
- 37:06Speaker 4: season and everybody starts to catch up. You know, you
- 37:08Speaker 4: put a lot of it on film, and now all
- 37:10Speaker 4: of a sudden, the defensive coaches get paid two. And
- 37:13Speaker 4: it used to happen with Andy Reid all the time.
- 37:15Speaker 3: The greatest offense I ever saw for a whole season
- 37:19Speaker 3: was the Patriots and seven, and that happened. Even to
- 37:21Speaker 3: that offense. It wasn't as productive down the stretch. It's
- 37:24Speaker 3: because it was the first three months.
- 37:26Speaker 2: True.
- 37:26Speaker 7: Yeah, I just watched the World forty two again and
- 37:28Speaker 7: that can confirm, can confirm.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Okay, but that you did.
- 37:31Speaker 3: But they won a game like twenty to ten against
- 37:33Speaker 3: the Jets in December that year.
- 37:36Speaker 2: You know, it's like Lawrence Moroni, all of a sudden.
- 37:38Speaker 3: They you know, even in the playoff games, it was
- 37:40Speaker 3: like twenty one to thirteen or whatever it was against
- 37:44Speaker 3: San Diego twenty one to twelve. I think it was
- 37:47Speaker 3: was a two score game, you know, like I know that,
- 37:50Speaker 3: you know, you're like twenty one.
- 37:51Speaker 2: That's not so bad. But they were scoring.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Thirty eight every game seven, right, you know they they
- 37:57Speaker 3: had like sort of lost two touchdowns of product off
- 38:00Speaker 3: of their their offense and down the stretch.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Yep.
- 38:03Speaker 7: You could just see when Eli came off that first drive, like.
- 38:08Speaker 2: They never got into a rhythm. Yeah.
- 38:10Speaker 4: I kinda yell at him.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Why were you living this? There was nothing else on?
- 38:13Speaker 2: What are we going to do? Watch the Celtics parade?
- 38:15Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Yes, that's much happier.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Eight five five pass five hundred is the a stick
- 38:20Speaker 2: and hotline. Eight five five pass five hundred web radio
- 38:24Speaker 2: at Patriots dot Com is the email address.
- 38:26Speaker 3: So, Fred, are you interested in buying the Celtics at all?
- 38:29Speaker 3: I'm gonna put in a h well, I think a
- 38:32Speaker 3: group together get an offer.
- 38:33Speaker 2: No, you know, not owning the building is a big thing.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I mean, but you could buy I remember the Crafts
- 38:42Speaker 2: were looking into Liverpool before John Henry uh bought it
- 38:46Speaker 2: in uh at the time. You know, first it was
- 38:49Speaker 2: building a new stadium was a big issue, and then
- 38:51Speaker 2: not having a salary cap in the e PL was
- 38:54Speaker 2: you know we're out. Yeah I remember that. Yeah, but
- 38:58Speaker 2: I think, you know, not owning your own statedium. Now
- 39:01Speaker 2: everyone says that like, oh, if you have the Celtics,
- 39:04Speaker 2: you have to have you know, your own facility. But
- 39:06Speaker 2: I don't know the deal that the Celtics have with
- 39:09Speaker 2: the Jacobs and Delaware North. I mean, it could be
- 39:11Speaker 2: such a sweetheart deal where they're not paying any rent
- 39:14Speaker 2: and they're getting a piece of all revenue that comes
- 39:16Speaker 2: in during their games. I don't know that to be true,
- 39:18Speaker 2: but if that is true, maybe maybe it sound like
- 39:21Speaker 2: a Jacobs thing and I think events of the thing
- 39:24Speaker 2: that you yeah, right, but maybe they have a great
- 39:28Speaker 2: deal where it's not such a bad thing that they
- 39:29Speaker 2: don't own that facility. I don't know that.
- 39:31Speaker 3: But look at all the money we make on all
- 39:34Speaker 3: the you know, the concerts season and everything. I can't
- 39:36Speaker 3: imagine Jacobs is sharing that with.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no, I'm just talking about for our game,
- 39:41Speaker 2: you know, Celtics games.
- 39:42Speaker 3: They get to the Celtics games, they probably make some money,
- 39:45Speaker 3: but yeah, there's so many laws. That's a huge amount
- 39:47Speaker 3: of revenue lost.
- 39:48Speaker 7: Yeah, are people saying that someone might buy the Celtics
- 39:51Speaker 7: and not play them at the Garden anymore and make
- 39:53Speaker 7: their own facility.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Well that might be. I didn't mean to call it
- 39:57Speaker 2: the garden. I know it's not really the gen but
- 40:00Speaker 2: I was thinking about that, you know, comparing the uh,
- 40:04Speaker 2: you know, the contracts that the Celtics are gonna have
- 40:07Speaker 2: to pay by next year into twenty six compared to
- 40:10Speaker 2: this NFL salary cap. NFL salary caps like what to
- 40:14Speaker 2: sixty yeah, something like that, and the Celtics are gonna
- 40:18Speaker 2: pay paying close to half a billion dollars in salary
- 40:22Speaker 2: for twelve guys. That's crazy, right, So it's crazy. I
- 40:27Speaker 2: get it, it's eighty two games. But still, yeah, I think.
- 40:30Speaker 4: One of the things not to go on the whole
- 40:32Speaker 4: thing about the selics. But I do find that, like
- 40:34Speaker 4: this part of it pretty fascinating because from a business standpoint,
- 40:37Speaker 4: Wick Rosspec is losing money because the roster is just
- 40:41Speaker 4: getting incredibly expensive. The Celtics are now going to be
- 40:45Speaker 4: a second Apron team starting next year, so the luxury
- 40:47Speaker 4: tax bill is going to be incredibly expensive. And Wick
- 40:50Speaker 4: Rosspeck is not the richest man in the world, Like he's.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Got a lot of money liquidity.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Yeah, but he's not. He's not a billionaire, so he
- 40:57Speaker 4: doesn't have you know, Saudi money. He doesn't have you know,
- 41:01Speaker 4: Walmart money, Like, he doesn't have that kind of money.
- 41:04Speaker 4: So just realistically, and they don't know in the stadium,
- 41:07Speaker 4: so there's no revenue stores from the stadium, So realistically,
- 41:10Speaker 4: he can't afford the team anymore. In a long term, yeah, play,
- 41:14Speaker 4: he can't afford the team anymore. So he doesn't really
- 41:17Speaker 4: have a choice. Like I think a lot of people
- 41:19Speaker 4: are like, oh, he's selling high. In five years, he's
- 41:22Speaker 4: gonna be bankrupt, but he can't afford it.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Let me ask you a question. Let's just say, I
- 41:25Speaker 2: know you can't have it, but let's just say an
- 41:28Speaker 2: n NBA team had every one of their players on
- 41:31Speaker 2: a max contract. Whatever that adds up to. Are we
- 41:34Speaker 2: saying that in the NBA, your TV revenue and all
- 41:37Speaker 2: the revenue that you get tickets and all that doesn't
- 41:41Speaker 2: pay for that, and that any NBA owner with a
- 41:43Speaker 2: high payroll has to dip into their own pocket.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Is that what we're saying in the NBA for the
- 41:48Speaker 4: most part, But they're hoping that that's not the case
- 41:50Speaker 4: in the NFL. Right, they're hoping, so they have there
- 41:52Speaker 4: there's a new TV deal that's kicking in in like
- 41:54Speaker 4: a year or two that is supposed to be three
- 41:57Speaker 4: times with resemble an NFL style TV package. That's gonna
- 42:02Speaker 4: do what you're doing, you know you're saying in terms
- 42:04Speaker 4: of paying the contracts, but it's it's not the NFL,
- 42:10Speaker 4: so it's not gonna be quite as much money. But
- 42:12Speaker 4: the bigger problem, like for the Celtics is that so
- 42:15Speaker 4: they don't own the stadium, so that's not a big
- 42:17Speaker 4: revenue source. And the regional sports networks like NBC Sports
- 42:21Speaker 4: Boston are our creator, right, So for the NBA, really
- 42:25Speaker 4: the only hope that they have to really make teams
- 42:29Speaker 4: super super profitable other than selling, is probably to go
- 42:32Speaker 4: to NFL style where it's like four stations have all
- 42:36Speaker 4: of the games and you just regionally you get we
- 42:40Speaker 4: get the Celtics because we're in Boston and you know whatever.
- 42:43Speaker 2: So that being the case, why are the Celtics valued
- 42:46Speaker 2: and I don't know where this comes from, end like
- 42:48Speaker 2: five billion dollars that's NFL valuation. Why without you know,
- 42:52Speaker 2: I can understand NFL valuations because it's stadium, it's TV revenue.
- 42:57Speaker 2: It's all that stuff that all you do is roll
- 42:59Speaker 2: out of that and you make that money if you're
- 43:01Speaker 2: an NFL owner. I get that valuation. Why are the
- 43:03Speaker 2: Celtics so high?
- 43:04Speaker 3: Well, they do have they do have a lot of
- 43:07Speaker 3: brand recognition, they have the iconic Yeah, okay, Celtics, it's
- 43:11Speaker 3: a it's a good question.
- 43:12Speaker 2: I think they actually a false valuation. I think it's low.
- 43:16Speaker 3: And from listening to people talk about it, Daniel Daniel
- 43:21Speaker 3: Dan whi's the sports Uh Dan Daniel Kaplan?
- 43:24Speaker 2: Is that his name?
- 43:25Speaker 3: Oh?
- 43:25Speaker 2: Yes, sports Business Journal Dan Dan Kaplan, that's his name, right. Yeah.
- 43:29Speaker 3: I heard him talking about that this morning a little
- 43:31Speaker 3: bit as I was driving in and he said he
- 43:33Speaker 3: felt like it. You know, it's hard to know these
- 43:36Speaker 3: things are there's a lot of estimating that goes into
- 43:39Speaker 3: these valuations. But if he had to guess, it's probably
- 43:42Speaker 3: a little low. But it's going to change because of
- 43:46Speaker 3: the stuff that Evan talked about with the aprons and
- 43:49Speaker 3: the taxes. Not every team has guys that are on
- 43:52Speaker 3: these max deal, Like the max isn't the same for everybody,
- 43:56Speaker 3: Like Jason Tatum's MAX is higher than Jalen Brown's MAX
- 44:00Speaker 3: because of his all LAA and accolades in the past
- 44:04Speaker 3: when he when he got the accolades. That's why his
- 44:07Speaker 3: I think he's like three fourteen and Jalen Brown's is
- 44:10Speaker 3: two eighty five. So and I know that sounds ridiculous, like, oh, well, well,
- 44:15Speaker 3: j what's thirty million?
- 44:16Speaker 4: You know, But they're they're on the hook for six
- 44:19Speaker 4: hundred million, and that's guaranteed money. That ain't NFL money
- 44:23Speaker 4: where it's like in two years you can you can
- 44:25Speaker 4: offload the contract. Right, they are on the hook for
- 44:28Speaker 4: six hundred million dollars for two guys. I don't even
- 44:31Speaker 4: think Wick grossbec is worth six hundred million dollars by himself, right,
- 44:35Speaker 4: So they're they're just in a situation where now to
- 44:39Speaker 4: own an NBA team, you're gonna have to have NFL
- 44:42Speaker 4: owner money.
- 44:42Speaker 2: But I would also say that what are they gonna
- 44:44Speaker 2: pay Pritchick.
- 44:46Speaker 3: They're gonna pay him in a strict sense of the
- 44:49Speaker 3: word what Evan said, probably about this year, I could
- 44:53Speaker 3: see a scenario that maybe they didn't make money. I'd
- 44:56Speaker 3: like to see the books before I accept that as gospel.
- 44:59Speaker 3: But I and see that based on like the bump
- 45:02Speaker 3: in Jalen Brown's contract and the taxes. But for the
- 45:07Speaker 3: greater part of twenty years, he made a lot of
- 45:09Speaker 3: money because they didn't have this kind of payroll for
- 45:11Speaker 3: the vast majority of that the Bridge Celtics, the little
- 45:14Speaker 3: engine that could that they would go into the Eastern
- 45:16Speaker 3: Conference finals every year. They made a lot of money
- 45:19Speaker 3: on that team. They didn't have these guys on max contracts.
- 45:22Speaker 3: So I think there's a lot more built up over
- 45:26Speaker 3: the twenty years or whatever fifteen years.
- 45:28Speaker 4: Something's happening, because a lot of happened, a lot of
- 45:32Speaker 4: a lot of owners are going for the lifeboats in
- 45:35Speaker 4: that league, especially Yeah, Mark Cuban. Yeah, a lot something's
- 45:39Speaker 4: brewing in the NBA where people business people.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Like and Mark Cuban are looking at Hi last out,
- 45:47Speaker 3: the Wolves, the even Michael Jordan did the same thing
- 45:52Speaker 3: with with Charlotte.
- 45:53Speaker 2: So this been.
- 45:54Speaker 3: I think there's like six NBA teams that in the
- 45:56Speaker 3: last couple of years.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Paul, did you not get any food? This is uncomfort.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Can't relation it right now. Just Fred's I mean, I
- 46:02Speaker 2: just want to know what Fred's gonna say. Wow, all right,

- 47:34Speaker 2: What's up, everybody?
- 47:35Speaker 6: Let's check out a snippet from the latest episode of
- 47:37Speaker 6: The Patch from the Past with Brian Hoyer.
- 47:40Speaker 10: What was your first impression when you met tom You know,
- 47:43Speaker 10: I pretty much introduced myself in the weakest nerdiest form
- 47:46Speaker 10: and fashion when he came up, I said, mister Brady
- 47:49Speaker 10: Matt Castle. Because you know, it's an intimidating environment, right,
- 47:52Speaker 10: and this guy just came off three Super Bowls. You
- 47:54Speaker 10: don't know how to like Normally you go up and say, hey,
- 47:56Speaker 10: what's going on, man, Nice to meet you. I just
- 47:59Speaker 10: completely geeked out. Well with a mister Brady, He's like, hey, Bud,
- 48:02Speaker 10: don't call me that, call me Tommy. I was like,
- 48:04Speaker 10: he might have me cut tomorrow based on the fact
- 48:07Speaker 10: that he doesn't want to be in the room with
- 48:08Speaker 10: somebody like a but no, he was incredible from the jump.
- 48:12Speaker 10: I mean we got in there, and then soon thereafter,
- 48:15Speaker 10: as we started to get into the work outs that offseason,
- 48:18Speaker 10: he's noticed that, Look, I was one of those workout
- 48:21Speaker 10: warriors too. I like to go in there. I like
- 48:23Speaker 10: to work out, and he's like, hey, you want to
- 48:24Speaker 10: work out with me. So he kind of took me
- 48:25Speaker 10: under his wing at that point, and from that point
- 48:28Speaker 10: on for the next four years, we worked out every
- 48:30Speaker 10: day with each other. We were in every meeting. But
- 48:32Speaker 10: for me, it was just incredible to watch the professionalism
- 48:36Speaker 10: day in and day out, and his leadership. And it
- 48:40Speaker 10: was not just with his words, but it was with
- 48:41Speaker 10: his actions. It's how he took care of himself, it's
- 48:45Speaker 10: how he interacted with his teammates, how he treated one
- 48:48Speaker 10: guy because he thought he could get the most out
- 48:50Speaker 10: of this guy like Welker, for instance, he could yell
- 48:52Speaker 10: at him all day long and Welker would just continue
- 48:55Speaker 10: to go, you know. And then there's other guys that
- 48:57Speaker 10: maybe like a rainy Moss, that he'd sit there in
- 48:59Speaker 10: the locker her after practice and just have a general
- 49:01Speaker 10: discussion about stuff because he how how he approached people
- 49:05Speaker 10: was different based on their personality and the relationships. So
- 49:09Speaker 10: it was just a masterclass in being a professional quarterback.
- 49:13Speaker 10: And then to watch what he did week in and
- 49:15Speaker 10: week out was just astounding.
- 49:17Speaker 3: So you get to be part of that room with
- 49:19Speaker 3: you know, the best that's ever done it, and you
- 49:21Speaker 3: also get to be coached by a guy who a
- 49:24Speaker 3: lot of people think is the best who's ever done it.
- 49:26Speaker 3: What do you remember about Bill specifically? But and I
- 49:30Speaker 3: know Matt and I tell talk about that story that
- 49:32Speaker 3: I think you talked about in the Dynasty documentary about
- 49:36Speaker 3: him calling your mom.
- 49:37Speaker 10: Oh, yeah, right about being a dumb ass because I
- 49:41Speaker 10: missed the corner blitz that was my rookie year.
- 49:44Speaker 8: Yeah, it was the last preseason game.
- 49:45Speaker 10: I didn't see the week corner blitz, which, hey, they
- 49:47Speaker 10: were pretty sneaky about it.
- 49:49Speaker 8: This guy's as well. But he definitely called me out
- 49:52Speaker 8: in the meeting the next day.
- 49:53Speaker 10: He's like, you know, Matt, let's make sure we go
- 49:56Speaker 10: through the fronts and check the corner blitz so I
- 49:58Speaker 10: don't have to call your mom and tell her hear
- 50:00Speaker 10: this is castle. We're sorry your son's in the hospital
- 50:02Speaker 10: because he's a dumb ass and from the whole team.
- 50:05Speaker 2: I was like, yep, I deserve that one. But Bill,
- 50:08Speaker 2: Bill was.
- 50:09Speaker 10: He was incredible because he pushed you to limits that
- 50:12Speaker 10: you didn't know that you could go, and he got
- 50:13Speaker 10: the best out of each of his players.
- 50:15Speaker 8: But I always respected about Bill was he had you
- 50:18Speaker 8: better prepared for.
- 50:19Speaker 10: Any situation, situationally speaking, also just game readiness than I've
- 50:23Speaker 10: ever been around. And part of that was even on Tuesdays,
- 50:27Speaker 10: taking the time out of his day. On a Tuesday
- 50:28Speaker 10: or off day, we'd come in, we'd meet with him,
- 50:30Speaker 10: and you've probably heard the story. We sit down, go
- 50:33Speaker 10: through every personnel and their defensive back end, safeties, corner strengths, weaknesses,
- 50:38Speaker 10: summarize who they are, then even maybe a potential matchup
- 50:42Speaker 10: on linebackers, talk about the defensive coordinator and also his
- 50:46Speaker 10: lineage and where it came from. Then we'd watch film
- 50:49Speaker 10: on all these guys. So by the time you came
- 50:51Speaker 10: in on Wednesday, you're rolling. You understand why we're implementing
- 50:55Speaker 10: certain past schemes and concepts, who we're trying to attack on,
- 50:59Speaker 10: specific crowds who are trying to take advantage of And
- 51:02Speaker 10: so you just had this you had this confidence going
- 51:05Speaker 10: into game week understanding why we're doing certain things, and
- 51:09Speaker 10: there was never that.
- 51:11Speaker 8: Wait, what are we doing? And if there was, it
- 51:14Speaker 8: was answered right and so. And the other thing I.
- 51:17Speaker 10: Always appreciated about Bill was he he was always held
- 51:20Speaker 10: everybody to the same standard of accountability. It wasn't like
- 51:24Speaker 10: a if you're this guy and your big name, you're
- 51:27Speaker 10: you're off limits. And I've been around that that type
- 51:30Speaker 10: of program before too. No, it was look, if you're
- 51:33Speaker 10: Tom Brady or if you're a free agent, it doesn't matter.
- 51:36Speaker 10: If you've messed up, I'm gonna call you out. We're
- 51:38Speaker 10: gonna correct it here. It might not be something that
- 51:41Speaker 10: you know, everybody everybody's cup of tea like to sit
- 51:44Speaker 10: there and get it in the meeting room, but at
- 51:46Speaker 10: the same time it's set us level of expectation and
- 51:50Speaker 10: a standard for everyone.
- 51:52Speaker 11: Paul mentioned the room, Matt, and so your rookie year
- 51:54Speaker 11: is three time Super Bowl champ Tom Brady, right, Your
- 51:58Speaker 11: offensive coordinator who wasn't a coordinator by name is Josh McDaniels.
- 52:02Speaker 8: At that time, because Charlie had just right, Charlie.
- 52:04Speaker 11: Just like and ninety seven year old, not kinny, but
- 52:08Speaker 11: with the mullet, Doug Flutie.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Dougie, what was that quarterback room like that?
- 52:13Speaker 5: It was?
- 52:14Speaker 2: It was wild.
- 52:14Speaker 10: Actually, when I first got here, there was five guys
- 52:16Speaker 10: on that depth chart. So they put up the depth
- 52:18Speaker 10: chart and I'm going, gosh, I got.
- 52:19Speaker 8: Some work to do.
- 52:20Speaker 10: It was Tom Brady, Rohan, Davy, Doug Fluteie, Chris Redman,
- 52:24Speaker 10: and then myself. I was like, man, these are a
- 52:26Speaker 10: lot of veterans and I am a low man on
- 52:28Speaker 10: this totem pole. But the cool part was as it
- 52:31Speaker 10: all worked out, you know, I was able to establish
- 52:35Speaker 10: some credibility there in preseason and make the team.
- 52:38Speaker 8: But then Doug was there. And Doug was hilarious because
- 52:41Speaker 8: Doug was forty one, right, he's forty one. He almost
- 52:44Speaker 8: had a daughter that was my age.
- 52:45Speaker 10: He would drive into the facility and have this huge
- 52:48Speaker 10: trans am with this eagle on the front of it,
- 52:51Speaker 10: like living in the eighties. Oh he's beautiful and he's
- 52:55Speaker 10: like a little kid though. He would talk about his heart.
- 52:58Speaker 10: He playing this hardball baseball league on the weekends. He'd
- 53:01Speaker 10: go down the fin way all the time, the shagg
- 53:03Speaker 10: balls with his glove. With his glove, I mean he
- 53:06Speaker 10: loved it, and so the stories were just unbelievable day
- 53:11Speaker 10: to day. And the only time that it really started
- 53:15Speaker 10: to see his age where when those night meetings hit
- 53:17Speaker 10: And sometimes you kind of look over and you're like,
- 53:19Speaker 10: is done nodding off right now?
- 53:21Speaker 8: I think he might be.
- 53:22Speaker 10: He's like, gosh, I feel you now. I'm forty two
- 53:25Speaker 10: and I'm sitting there. I can't believe he was still
- 53:26Speaker 10: playing at that time.
- 53:27Speaker 11: I remember this, and you're never going to remember this.
- 53:29Speaker 8: Well.
- 53:29Speaker 11: You remember the drills, but I remember doing a story
- 53:32Speaker 11: video story because I was intrigued. Who am I'm a moron?
- 53:36Speaker 11: But every game pregame, Castle and Flutie yep would do
- 53:40Speaker 11: this contest, an accuracy contest, where they'd be sitting there
- 53:43Speaker 11: and they'd try to hit the goalposts the crossbar.
- 53:46Speaker 2: I didn't know that, and it was so cool.
- 53:48Speaker 11: To see you guys like really competitive, like, hey, these.
- 53:51Speaker 2: Might be the only throws are gonna get all.
- 53:53Speaker 11: We get really into it, and was it just it
- 53:56Speaker 11: was an accuracy test.
- 53:57Speaker 10: There was an accuracy test, so you tried to hit
- 53:59Speaker 10: the crossbar. We'd start the fifteen yard line. Go back
- 54:01Speaker 10: to twenty twenty five thirty. I think we might have
- 54:04Speaker 10: even got to about the forty is when we and
- 54:06Speaker 10: whoever whoever collectively hit the crossbar from all those spots
- 54:10Speaker 10: one and we do it before every game. It was
- 54:12Speaker 10: just a fun little ritual and it was something that
- 54:15Speaker 10: he just is like, hey, cast you, let's play, and
- 54:18Speaker 10: I was like.
- 54:18Speaker 8: All right, let's do it. And then it started to
- 54:20Speaker 8: become a tradition where we did on every pregame, we'd
- 54:23Speaker 8: go out there and throw.
- 54:25Speaker 3: So most Patriots fans would probably say that the most
- 54:27Speaker 3: memorable thing that Fluti did was the game that he had,
- 54:29Speaker 3: you know, the drop kit, right, Yeah, so that game
- 54:32Speaker 3: is really memorable for Matt and I also because you
- 54:35Speaker 3: played a big role on it at the end, right,
- 54:38Speaker 3: I did so that that finale against Miami, I'm trying.
- 54:41Speaker 2: I'm trying, guy.
- 54:42Speaker 8: You I can set it for you too.
- 54:44Speaker 2: He can speak for himself too, but I just it was.
- 54:48Speaker 3: You know, sort of playoff seating at play.
- 54:50Speaker 2: And I know that Bill Belichick would never.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Maybe intentionally not want to win the game, but it
- 54:57Speaker 3: certainly seemed we tied the game into like the last
- 54:59Speaker 3: minute or it was you took him and the two
- 55:03Speaker 3: point conversion to tie the game. Well, oh, yeah, see,
- 55:06Speaker 3: I didn't remember Bam children No.
- 55:08Speaker 11: But the other thing is that I remember because I
- 55:09Speaker 11: was remember looking at the tape. Is the sideline tape
- 55:13Speaker 11: is they score immediately they bring the huddle over the
- 55:18Speaker 11: field and there's Bill and there's you know, Tom and
- 55:20Speaker 11: everything they're talking about. And it's like, yeah, it's obvious
- 55:23Speaker 11: that there's they want to talk about this, and it's
- 55:25Speaker 11: not like necessarily, what's the best player to score here?
- 55:29Speaker 5: No?
- 55:29Speaker 10: You know what the interesting part was was it was
- 55:31Speaker 10: a two point play that we had practiced. It was
- 55:34Speaker 10: it was a go on the outside and Bam was
- 55:36Speaker 10: supposed to set him up, stab inside and come out,
- 55:38Speaker 10: and it was a sprint out and they basically were
- 55:40Speaker 10: having a conversation.
- 55:41Speaker 8: You like this play.
- 55:42Speaker 10: I was like, let's go for it because we knew
- 55:44Speaker 10: that they were going to pressure us, right, because that
- 55:46Speaker 10: was Saban's mentality, and so it was more of a
- 55:49Speaker 10: movement play instead of sitting back there and having to
- 55:51Speaker 10: throw like a fade rout or something.
- 55:52Speaker 8: And he was my number one read and I'll tell
- 55:54Speaker 8: you what. I came out.
- 55:55Speaker 10: I saw him wide open, and my eyes got big,
- 55:57Speaker 10: and I sailed that ball and everybody still this day,
- 56:00Speaker 10: says coach Belichick. You know our seatings were going to true.
- 56:04Speaker 10: Tell us the truth, throw it over his head. No,
- 56:05Speaker 10: he honestly called that play to score. I don't think
- 56:09Speaker 10: there was any part of him that did ever even
- 56:13Speaker 10: considered like, let's throw this away.
- 56:15Speaker 8: Hed never said that. To me.
- 56:16Speaker 11: That's a good soldier.
- 56:18Speaker 12: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes. Oh No,
- 56:23Speaker 12: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery.
- 56:26Speaker 12: Everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx. Where
- 56:30Speaker 12: now mean's next for residential delivery only?
- 56:35Speaker 8: And now great moments in.
- 56:39Speaker 2: History. But that's my point. But they didn't. I think
- 56:43Speaker 2: Levy was caught the wave there. He had a great team,
- 56:46Speaker 2: great person you know, great players. They were oh my
- 56:51Speaker 2: whoa sorry who. It was unnecessary one forever that came
- 56:56Speaker 2: out of nowhere. They were. They were loaded. We'll get
- 57:02Speaker 2: that on post. Put that on post.
- 57:05Speaker 8: That's another great moment.
- 57:09Speaker 2: Hey, dude, so are you hosting for the fourth of July? No,
- 57:12Speaker 2: I don't think we're doing anything. Actually, Fred, If you are,
- 57:16Speaker 2: there's always room for one more. When you snag sectional,
- 57:20Speaker 2: snag a sectional, So I guess that's a sofa, right, Yeah, Yeah,
- 57:24Speaker 2: there's always room for one more when you snag a
- 57:26Speaker 2: sectional during Bob's Discount Furniture for Fourth of July. So
- 57:31Speaker 2: there's a lot of shop your choice of feature packed
- 57:36Speaker 2: sectionals starting at just seven hundred and ninety nine dollars
- 57:39Speaker 2: with everything you need to party in style this Fourth
- 57:42Speaker 2: of July, like built in bookshelves, pop up sleepers, charging ports,
- 57:46Speaker 2: and cup holders. So stop by and get ready for
- 57:49Speaker 2: the Fourth with Bob's Discount Furniture, the official furniture store
- 57:53Speaker 2: of the New England Patriots. I'm looking for outdoor cushions,
- 57:58Speaker 2: so Bob, if you're listening, you help me out that
- 58:01Speaker 2: are completely waterproof. I mean just pressure washing them. Water
- 58:05Speaker 2: doesn't get out because the cushions I have, now you
- 58:07Speaker 2: have a heavy rain like we've had lately, and they
- 58:10Speaker 2: get full of water and you have to tilt them
- 58:12Speaker 2: upright and wait for the water to drain out and
- 58:14Speaker 2: all that stuff. I want one waterproof outdoor cushions. So
- 58:19Speaker 2: I looked them up. They're expensive. They're like one hundred
- 58:23Speaker 2: and fifty to two hundred dollars per cushion, plus you
- 58:26Speaker 2: probably have to get them custom fit to your furniture,
- 58:29Speaker 2: like furniture is pretty stand Yeah, but that's I need
- 58:32Speaker 2: Bob hooked me up.
- 58:35Speaker 5: I feel like with that though, I would pay that
- 58:39Speaker 5: much for it because I feel like it'd be right.
- 58:41Speaker 2: But so I have a couch that has three cushions
- 58:44Speaker 2: and three backs. Then I have two chairs that have
- 58:46Speaker 2: a cushion in a back. Oh, so that's that's six nine, No,
- 58:51Speaker 2: six eight ten. So I need ten cushions. A that's
- 58:57Speaker 2: over one thousand dollars and cushions. Do you have a cover?
- 59:01Speaker 2: I have a cover. I have a cover, but I
- 59:03Speaker 2: don't put it on until after the summer is over.
- 59:06Speaker 2: I put it to take the cover on and off
- 59:08Speaker 2: every time it rains. I just wanted to put the
- 59:11Speaker 2: cover on your furniture every night. It's like a ritual,
- 59:15Speaker 2: like lowering the pretend this TJA bugle while you're doing it.
- 59:20Speaker 2: It takes like literally thirty seconds. It's right out.
- 59:24Speaker 3: Is probably in the backyard because you probably haven't Yes,
- 59:27Speaker 3: it's not in the front of an expansive like you know,
- 59:29Speaker 3: probably in the acres. You probably have to take the
- 59:31Speaker 3: golf cart out to the furniture. I just have a
- 59:34Speaker 3: little deck off, you know, off the back, and there's
- 59:38Speaker 3: a sectional. Yeah, like a l Yeah, so the cover
- 59:43Speaker 3: just goes over it. It takes fifteen seconds. And if
- 59:46Speaker 3: it rains that night, I have my cushions.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Don't get I have a cover for everything. I have
- 59:50Speaker 2: a cover for the table.
- 59:52Speaker 7: But I'm not doing that about a cushion box, just
- 59:54Speaker 7: a box for your cushions to store your cushion and
- 59:57Speaker 7: then they stay to a box.
- 59:59Speaker 2: I said, it's ten cushions. Yeah, it's a lot of cushions.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: A lot of cushion for the shed. Eat a shed.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Yeah, well that's where the stuff goes in the I
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: would just rather haveave it all out in the winter too.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: No, I put covers over it. Yeah. See you got
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: to bring it inside and protect that. Bring one inside.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: All the furniture where am I gonna put it?
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Evidently someone has a lot more furniture out there than like.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: I said, I have a couch, cushions, I have two
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: big shares, and I have like a coffee table. I
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: put it all goes away in the winter. I don't
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: want it exposed to the elements, right, prolonged the life
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: of it. Yeah, there you go.
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: Well, it sounds like you're gaving all your stuff out
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: all year long. You should just pay the one hundred
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: hundred and fifty.
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: But it's waterproof enough, I don't know. I mean you're
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: leading like all conditions right ice and like I have
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: this it.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Should be like high bar table with barstools, you know,
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: and that when they get wet, it's it's tough because
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: the water you don't know, it's wet, you know, and
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: all of a sudden you sit down, like you have
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: to like dump it and all the waters out because
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: it's all that.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: Wicker, you know, kind of too much. I don't know
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: what it's called a lot of wicker hate. You don't
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: like the wicker. You don't like the way. You don't
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: know from where you're a would guy or metal. You're
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: a wood would so you're actual.
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: So your Adirondack chairs, there's chairs are actually fully plastic.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: There's nothing less comfortable than an Adirondack chair.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: No, there's a good spot. There's nothing less comfortable to
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: sit in now I know. And those get beat up
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: to and get up from. Yeah, like if you've had
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: a few, if you've had a few bud lights, you're
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: trying to get up from an adiron deck.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: It's oh, it's easy if you're drinking bud Light because
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: it's easy to drink, easy to enjoy, and easy to
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: get out of an Adirondack chairs.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: Another part of that, thank you Mike. All right, Fred
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: looked at me like, where are you going with this?
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: I want to circle back to a conversation and actually
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: put Evan on blast. We didn't finish our July fourth
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: food conversation.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, screw out one. You know, Evan's anti fruit. Fred,
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: he I heard that on the on the mix that
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Matt did. What do you mean you don't like fruit?
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: Okay? First of all, I said this last week. We've
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: definitely had this conversation. We have definitely had this. You
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: w and I because we're you know, on the road.
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: We talk about you know, right, what's for dinner?
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: Whatever? On strawberry hell no, yea, no, all fruit? All fruit.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: You're missing out on one of God's greatest gifts to us.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: What's your favorite fruit? What's your favorite sweet? Like like
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: ice cream, cookie cake, pie, brownie?
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: I don't know, probably I like them all. So it's
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: kind of hard to you like sweet things.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Yes, you like sweet things.
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: Okay, but you said there was bad July fourth food.
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: I thought there are bad takes about July fourth.
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: Oh so what's a bad take about July fourth food?
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: Hot dog not a sandwich? And if you think it's
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: a sandwich.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: I agree, But that's not a fourth of July take.
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: That's just a yeah, it just comes out July.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: All of a sudden. I get see. I was with Samara.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: I thought I thought you had like very pacific jew's
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: and don'ts for July food. Yeah, do you put out
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: a platter? No, I just don't make it have fruit
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: on it.
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, So if you're having like a totally outdoor
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: thing with like a table with the food, it is
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: bad to like leave.
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: Food out there to get all your little screens, especially
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: if it's like any of your right put potato salad.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: You got about fifteen minutes, right, If you don't eat
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: it by then, it's gone.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: Anything Mayo based or dairy based. Yeah, that's why you
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: can have Italian subs. It's no mao, you know's yeah,
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: it's ready to go. Just why it's the perfect sandwen
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: that's right. But when's the last time you had fruit? Oh?
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: God, maybe like a couple of years ago.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: Oh so what's that reason it wasn't like when I
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: was funding.
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: It's not like my my seafood take that. You can
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: yell at me the last.
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: Time your I tried some apple crisp, because, like I said,
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: that's not really fruit.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: I mean, it's fruit and sugar. That's god.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: I just can't believe you into an apple or a
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: peach or a pear, or.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Orange grapes like orange juice. It doesn't like watermelon and candalop.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Who doesn't like that? Yeah, you don't like watermelon. I
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: just think it's crazy that there's nothing better on the
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: risk watermelon.
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: Try to tell them you can make your breakfast a
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: lot easier, but you just grab an apple, doesn't What are.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: You talking about? I'm not done perfect. So two years
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: ago you had some apple crisp, But that's not that's
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: not a fair thing to judge fruit. But when's the
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: last time you bit into a fresh, ripe piece of fruit?
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: Probably never?
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Okay, So you need to try that before you close
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: your mind to it. No, it's closed. Don't be closed mind. Literally,
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: it's not as bad as you're more open minded to
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: the reminder steam it's in contract than you are fruit.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: That's not very I know.
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: Do you drink smoothies ever? O, God, what that's like
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: a bunch of fruit?
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Do you like smoothies? Yeah?
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: Sure, see I love fruit, and I will have a
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: smoothie from time to time.
- 1:05:18Speaker 7: I don't love smooth very falling, very filling?
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: Are they very have a smoothie? Everybody? I don't know?
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: I I also just have a I don't really like
- 1:05:27Speaker 7: the I don't really like the big frozen drinks. Like
- 1:05:28Speaker 7: me and Lane, we went to Paris than not real Paris,
- 1:05:31Speaker 7: Vegas Paris and they give you like an Eiffel tower
- 1:05:34Speaker 7: full of like uh, strawberry dackery or something. But it's
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: like frozen drink.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: That's different. I know it's different, but it's like next
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: week on vacation. I like making smoothies, but then you
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: have to clean up. You have to clean Yeah. I
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: like a good smoothie, though the right day.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: There's nothing worse than Will Will and TJ making.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: So everybody keeps telling me.
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: Like a bomb from the kitchen, you're missing out.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: I'm not because it's just like my I don't like it,
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: so like my taste, Like you don't even know you
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: like it, you haven't tried it.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: I literally it's not as bad as it was when
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: I was a kid. When I when I was a kid,
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: I like would literally gag, like I get yeah, like
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: it was that, like the smell.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: Water is so good. I can't even fathom this taste.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: Like some people don't like that grapes. I was a
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Brian college. I was a Brian college during training camp
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: when I developed an allergy to pitted fruit. And it's
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: one of the saddest days of my life. How did
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: that happen? I don't know. I was eating a bullet
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: because back then we could eat with the players, so
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: we could go into the cap and take whatever we wanted.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: They had a whole fruit bar, so I would I
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: would have a bowl of cherries. And I'm sitting back
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: at my desk in the classroom that we worked and
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: all of a sudden, my mouth and my lips and
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: my tongue started swelling up.
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: That is so funny, the same thing, but the same
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: thing happened to me out that I just developed an
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: allergy to pitted fruits.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: And I love cherries.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: I love plums. I love I have plum tree in
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: my backyard growing up. I love plums and I can't
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: really eating like the pitted fruits of My throat gets
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: really itchy when when I eat it, so I try
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: to stay away from it. But but I think it's
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: more the skin poll oranges, watermelon, cantalope, all of that stuff.
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: Oranges like they have like the people that to get
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: their peel and disgust.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: It's like the lobster of fruits. Too much.
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: On the smell.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: He tweets, like an orange like it's a lobster. I
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: even said too much work.
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: He wouldn't even put like strawberries on top.
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: But I wouldn't either because I don't really loves See
- 1:07:48Speaker 7: that's where I'll call on my team, Evan.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: I don't like sweets with fruit, like, get the fruit
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: out of here. If I'm having.
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: Apple pie, though.
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: That's fruit.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: A lot of that is not fruit. A lot of
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: a lot of people, like you know, the ala mode.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: I like my pies, just the pie. I don't want
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: the ice cream, ice cream. Just just give me the
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: apple pie. That's a vincent brisbee. Really he asked for
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: and asked they can put some ice cream. Give me
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: some of that apple pie adeuts, put some ice cream
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: on it. I'll a cart. Yeah.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: My controversial take would be pies in general, Like I
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: don't really I don't I like cake, ice cream.
- 1:08:35Speaker 6: Do you ever tried the apple pie with the cheese
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: on it?
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: My dad wouldn't like that.
- 1:08:39Speaker 7: My dad a big apple pie.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: That's to me, like an American. I don't really like
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: apple pie.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: You don't like apple pie? Ye, see that's that's the face.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: I usually like pie. I'm okay with it.
- 1:08:49Speaker 7: I'm not really a pie guy, though. Pie would be
- 1:08:51Speaker 7: in the bottom of like cookies, brownies that I would.
- 1:08:57Speaker 7: I mean, I'm kind of with you on the apple pie,
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: but it's it's a quick fall off to that, like
- 1:09:00Speaker 7: and then I'm like like blueberry, and then then it
- 1:09:03Speaker 7: and then then where are we going?
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: Pumpkin? I like good pumpkin pie.
- 1:09:06Speaker 7: It's all based on how much cream product I'm putting
- 1:09:08Speaker 7: on it, Like is there a bunch of whiped cream?
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: That's not really what they're eating now. I don't like
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Boston Boston cream pie really pie. I know it's called
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: a pie, but that's the.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: Only it's not really cream. It's custard. It's good though.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: I like ace pots cake key lime pie every now
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: and then.
- 1:09:27Speaker 7: It's okay, But like I'm not getting a craving on
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: the weekend for like, hey, let's go for pie.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: I want would you go to July fourth side?
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Uh? Like, obviously you get your Burger's dogs, potato salad
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: and and then salad. What's non meat category?
- 1:09:46Speaker 7: Pasta salad, pasta salad, potatoes potatoes like mac salad I.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: Can't get with. I don't like mayonnaise. The only problem
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: with corn in the cob is not really in season
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: in early July. Huh, it's a little messy. Yeah, it's
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: so good though in like August, corn in the cob
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: is later in the I have a hard time eating
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: it too fresh corner of the cob.
- 1:10:06Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Wait, so are you a bad tooth?
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: Are you a mayo based pasta salad or oil based
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: pasta mayo?
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: Mao?
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: I could go with either, Yeah, I could go, but
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: I think oil is better. Oil is better, I do.
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: I look fully to those conversations with Zoe again this
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: summer when he tells me to make it like a
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: baloney sandwich that I was like, well, who likes a
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: boloney sandwich?
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: I doesn't like a kid baloney and mustard, boney, cheese, mustard.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: All baloney is is a raw hot dog, right, nothing.
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: I love baloney, not cook it. My mom used to
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: being people. The kids still leave bolooney these days.
- 1:10:43Speaker 7: Like I used that bloney sandwiches all the time when
- 1:10:45Speaker 7: I was a kid.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: I like, I used to fry baloney. Yeah, it tastes
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: like a hot dog is good.
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: That just gave me chills.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: Preferred way to eat a hot dog boiled, steam lengthwise, grilled.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: I think if you have the time and you're willing
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: to put the effort, grill is the way to go.
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: Grilled or in the oven. Like if I'm not going
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: outside and put it on a baked bacon.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Baked hot hadntroversial takes.
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: I mean, it's the closest thing the grilled I'm going
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: to get in my house if I.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: Don't have Like so you broil it, yes, okay, so
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: not baked. You broil it, but you can put it
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: in a pan with butter and they come out good. Now, yeah,
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: they come up great. And you put the bun in
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: there too. Least I need pretty much any hot dog
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: like I like it.
- 1:11:33Speaker 7: They're all it's all a special day. I'm like, oh
- 1:11:35Speaker 7: it's grilled today.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: You've already established it. Hot dogs raw. It tastes like
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: Ballooney tastes like baloney.
- 1:11:44Speaker 6: I did the same thing, Fred.
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: Alarm, Well they're not actually row Well, yeah, it's it's
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: cooked meat.
- 1:11:50Speaker 7: But lips and I feel like a lot of like
- 1:11:53Speaker 7: they make them out of. It's a good great outdoors.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: You know what they may come out of. You need
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: to pass the hour here, shelter.
- 1:12:03Speaker 7: It's all plasure, which means what the lips and a
- 1:12:05Speaker 7: holes never touched the floor.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: It was blessed. It was blessed by a rabbi.
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: And yeah, I feel like grilled is the best best
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: way for hot dogs. But if you go to like
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: a hot dog place, you know, like in New York
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: or something like that, they don't grill. It's usually in
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: the steamer.
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: Right, they don't really do it anymore, but they used
- 1:12:26Speaker 6: to steam hot dogs and beers.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: Have you ever, guys, have you ever had those?
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: That's like if you go to to graze Papaya, they're
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: not grilling those hot dogs.
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: I even do the five guys style where they slice
- 1:12:38Speaker 7: them in half and then on the hard top with
- 1:12:40Speaker 7: a little pressed, little crust.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Not bad mm hmmm.
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: I think guys, sounds like they would have an elite
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: hot dog.
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: That's pretty good. Ye all right, my wife gets him
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: every once in a while. From five guys eight five
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: five pass, they're excellent. Yeah, split down the middle eight
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: five five pass five hotline, web radio Patriots dot Com
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: as the email address. Let's get to some of these emails.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: L from Wisconsin, we're talking about maybe Bill going to Dallas,
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: and he says, how much better than the other candidates
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: does Belichick have to be to make the owner okay
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: with having Patricia and Judge in the building.
- 1:13:17Speaker 7: It's interesting. I mean, I I think Bill's going to
- 1:13:20Speaker 7: get one more crack at it. I just think that,
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: like Jerry Jones, it's the perfect example of somebody who just,
- 1:13:25Speaker 7: you know it, all of a sudden becomes the whole
- 1:13:27Speaker 7: narrative of your team. And I think some team is
- 1:13:29Speaker 7: going to be willing to make that jump with you know, like,
- 1:13:32Speaker 7: let's just what's the worst thing that can happen?
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: I mean, you know, I kind of.
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: Think that's the only option is McCarthy GM and head
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: coach coach Jerry's Do you think Bill would be okay
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: with not having control?
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:13:44Speaker 7: Yeah, at this point, says he would. I think after
- 1:13:47Speaker 7: a year he you know. I mean it probably would
- 1:13:49Speaker 7: if he went right into it would have been annoyed.
- 1:13:50Speaker 7: But I think at this point it's like, just get
- 1:13:52Speaker 7: another chance and give you the team and just do
- 1:13:54Speaker 7: what you do, coach.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Get a good point, Mike.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: I think he probably has been humbled a little bit
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: by the fact that they weren't falling at his feet
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: to hire him.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, and it's not it's not as big of
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: a you know, it's not as daunting. You have less
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: time with the whole GM duties, more time with your
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: significant other. I don't know why it's okay to suddenly
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: do this.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: It's okay for him.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: She's very nice, great person. Seems to be a very
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: important part of his life. Was she a cheerleader though
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: with the Patriots? No, no, no, never. She's an old
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: soul Andrew in la He says, I'm from the future.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Two things I'd like to share with you. There's three
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: siblings that have a massive interest in fidelity investments, with
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: a combined net worth of fifty billion dollars. They're also
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: from Massachusetts, and they will be the next majority owner
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: of the Celtics. The Johnson Abigail Johnson. I don't know
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: if her dad's still but she's like, if not the
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: most the wealthiest person mass she's like number two. So
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: the Johnson family is, but I don't I think they've
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: ever had any interest in sports. They've never had, you know,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: been in the talk of owning any team, So I'm
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: not sure that's their thing.
- 1:15:09Speaker 7: You know, wouldn't that be the best if you were
- 1:15:10Speaker 7: super rich, wouldn't you just want to own a team
- 1:15:13Speaker 7: and just be annoying and if you're around the team constantly.
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: But if you don't like sports, then no, you know
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: Wick is it from Worcester originally, but like same thing
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: as as mister Kraft. Like that's the dream, Like this
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: is your childhood team that you rooted for growing up
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: and now you own it. Like that's the coolest thing ever.
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: Like that, that's like any sports fan. That's got to
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: be like the absolute pinnacle of sports fandom.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: Could tailgate again, do whatever you want?
- 1:15:37Speaker 7: Really go down into the gym, you know, you just
- 1:15:39Speaker 7: see that's my gym. I'm working out here too, guys.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Sorry, yeah, again, Like if you're a sports person, oh,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: it's it's the dream, you know, but not everyone is.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: And I don't know if the Johnsons are, Let's go
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: to the phones. Brad's in Ohio. What's up, Brad? Thanks
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: for holding on, Brad, Okay, he wasn't holding on. Matt
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: came all the way in here to get this thing going.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: How about Willem and Philam, Let's go Willem, what's up?
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: What's up? Well, listen for it.
- 1:16:11Speaker 13: I'm sorry.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: How you doing all right?
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: All right?
- 1:16:16Speaker 13: Oh my god, I don't know what to say.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: Hold on so long? You forgot?
- 1:16:20Speaker 13: No, no, no, it's not that.
- 1:16:21Speaker 8: No, it's just the team is.
- 1:16:23Speaker 13: It's frustrates the hell out of me, you know, and
- 1:16:25Speaker 13: just hand a lot of takes and stuff and things
- 1:16:28Speaker 13: don't make sense for me. I mean, maybe y'all can
- 1:16:29Speaker 13: clean the air for me on this one. I said
- 1:16:32Speaker 13: some things on Catch twin two. So now I'm gonna
- 1:16:34Speaker 13: bring this the pictures on filter face. You're right, Evan,
- 1:16:40Speaker 13: Like you know, nobody wants to hear about far As
- 1:16:43Speaker 13: waiting for a vide receiver. I'm trying to be I'm
- 1:16:45Speaker 13: gonna try to keep this clean as possible because I
- 1:16:47Speaker 13: really feel like Cussin's really bad. But I'm gonna try
- 1:16:50Speaker 13: to keep to keep this. I'm trying I'm gonna try
- 1:16:54Speaker 13: it for I know, because that's a lot of editing
- 1:16:57Speaker 13: for up there. All Right, So I mean we passed
- 1:17:02Speaker 13: up on Marvin Harrison, Junior, Roman D's A and Elik Neighbors. Yes,
- 1:17:07Speaker 13: with common sense wise, yes we need a quarterback. I
- 1:17:10Speaker 13: get that we got Drake May done so now because
- 1:17:15Speaker 13: Ellien Wolf messed up with that third pick and when
- 1:17:19Speaker 13: got tackled. Instead of go ahead and go get what
- 1:17:21Speaker 13: Patrick Paul Wright did with the second pick, but you
- 1:17:23Speaker 13: go get Jim and Pope. Okay, I know y'all praising
- 1:17:27Speaker 13: Ellien Wolf like he did the greatest job in all season. Now,
- 1:17:30Speaker 13: I don't think so. I don't especially in the off season.
- 1:17:33Speaker 13: In terms of free agency. Yes, you brought back the court,
- 1:17:36Speaker 13: you spend money, congratulations, but you did a horrible job
- 1:17:40Speaker 13: in terms of bringing in blue chit talent. The only
- 1:17:43Speaker 13: person that might stand out might be what Antonio Gibson. Okay,
- 1:17:47Speaker 13: and here's another take for you too, while I'm at that. Okay,
- 1:17:52Speaker 13: Evan wants to wait till twenty twenty five or twenty
- 1:17:55Speaker 13: twenty six or whenever to get a receiver. You do
- 1:17:57Speaker 13: have an owner named mister Kraft, right, he is getting
- 1:17:59Speaker 13: a h correct, yep, I don't think he. I don't
- 1:18:02Speaker 13: think he want to. I don't think he will even
- 1:18:03Speaker 13: improve of something night Dy, not that I know your
- 1:18:06Speaker 13: season ticket holders too, some of thee might be up
- 1:18:10Speaker 13: in the age too. I don't think they want to
- 1:18:11Speaker 13: wait till twenty twenty six, evan to get DK Metcalf
- 1:18:15Speaker 13: and then not to mention you talking about giving up
- 1:18:17Speaker 13: a first round pick, but then yet we need to
- 1:18:19Speaker 13: tackle too, because Ellien will dropped the ball on that,
- 1:18:22Speaker 13: because we have a tackle that they ain't played left
- 1:18:24Speaker 13: facles since high school? What are we doing?
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: You know?
- 1:18:28Speaker 13: And it's just we in a five year rebuild? Right,
- 1:18:31Speaker 13: it's five years now, okay, I mean we've been waiting long.
- 1:18:34Speaker 13: When is the right time? You had DeAndre Hopkins in
- 1:18:38Speaker 13: your facility, you let him go. You had a chance
- 1:18:40Speaker 13: to get a lot of receivers. There's a lot of
- 1:18:44Speaker 13: chance the patients could have got one building one.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: When is the right time? Fellas?
- 1:18:49Speaker 13: When is the right time?
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: Ladies too?
- 1:18:51Speaker 13: When is the right time?
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: Well? I think I think yeah, And thanks for the call, William.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: I you know, did they get everybody that they could
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: have got in this offseason? Probably not? But I think
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: they're trying to be pragmatic about things and you know,
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: maybe we dodged a bullet by not getting Calvin Ridley
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: or you know, I don't know, but the tackle one
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: is an issue. That's a big one. I think they
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: need to address that, and you know, if maybe they have,
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: but it's.
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: I don't think that the off season has been perceived
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: as being great or terrible. I don't really see a
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: lot of people very passionately defending or criticizing what they've done.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: I think a lot of people have sort of talked
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: about how we did in the first forty five minutes
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: of the show today of you know, clearly it was
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: important for Mayo and Wolf to retain, you know, a
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: nucleus of guys that they were comfortable with and they
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: wanted to keep around to try to establish what they
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: want to do, their culture, you know, their leadership structure.
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: But have you I mean, William made the point just
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: then in passing that you know, I know everybody's you know,
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: applauding everything that Elliott Wolf has done. I haven't really
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: heard a lot of that. And to the flip side, was.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: The time that they a lot of people were on
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: the Elliott Wolf bandwagon.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll get to that in the said Okay, But
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: on the flip side, we've gotten a couple of questions
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: in the mailbag this week. Why is everybody killing Elliott Wolf.
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: I haven't seen any.
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: Of that either, right, No, I certainly haven't seen that.
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: I haven't really seen a lot of criticism of all
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: of these moves. Now in a vacuum, you can say
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: I like this one, I like this one. I like
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: this one, Evan. I'm not really sure about the Ramadre Stevenson.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: You know, you know me.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: I've been a little bit critical of the Kendrick Bourne one,
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: you know, as an example. But I haven't seen widespread
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: criticism of the offseason and Elliot Wolf in particular, have you, guys?
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: No, And I mean, I guess the way I look
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: at it is stopping the bleeding. That felt like what
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: they had to do this offseason.
- 1:20:49Speaker 7: They had to stop the bleeding from this team that
- 1:20:52Speaker 7: was going down the drain for the last couple of years.
- 1:20:54Speaker 7: You had to re establish. Look, here's the handful of
- 1:20:56Speaker 7: players that we like and that we think we can
- 1:20:58Speaker 7: work with. I just I and I understand Williams's point
- 1:21:02Speaker 7: because you can you go back to like, all right,
- 1:21:04Speaker 7: is the rebuild been going on since twenty twenty, so
- 1:21:06Speaker 7: are we now in year five? I understand that frustration,
- 1:21:09Speaker 7: but I just I think it was hard for them
- 1:21:11Speaker 7: to you know, we talked about it all off season.
- 1:21:14Speaker 7: How are they going to thread the needle with a
- 1:21:15Speaker 7: left tackle, a number one wide receiver, a quarterback of
- 1:21:18Speaker 7: the future. Like it just it's overwhelming to try to
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: think how they could have threaded that needle this offseason.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: It was a lot to ask. I mean, there was
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: a way a lot to do this offseason, and you
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: just you're not gonna get it all done.
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: They needed to get one of them in free agency, Yeah,
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: and they didn't. They picked they did pick whatever one. Well,
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: they didn't get a left tackle in free agency. They
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: didn't they can they can get a guy who plays
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: left tackle. They didn't sign a left tackle. They signed
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: a right tackle, a backup one. At that I think
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: they were starting left tackles that were available, or you
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: could have said, no, no, no, we don't like Jonah
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: Williams or Tyron Smith at this stage. We're going to
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: get one in the draft and made sure they Calvin
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: Ridley or some other number one receiver. They chose neither,
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: and I think that's my biggest criticism. But I'm not
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: I wouldn't kill them for it, And I think Mike's
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: point is very valid. Yeah, you can make an argument
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: if you wanted to say, technically, it's been since Brady
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: left in twenty nineteen, you've been rebuilding.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Yep, they don't care about that. This is their first year, right,
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: this is year one of their rebuilds.
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: They're not responsible for what's happened in the past. True,
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: that's what I said, But Robert Kraft is no.
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: But like Robert Kraft isn't making all the personnel decisions.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: No, I know, but like at some point the buck
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: stops there.
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: Right, No, I get that, But I wouldn't necessarily put
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: it on ownership of why you're spinning your wheel but
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: on the field, and.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: I think that's why ownership made a change last But.
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: You know that's just me, Fred. I'm more defensive inn
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: than you ten tend to be.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: I mean, but I think I think the owner realized
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: that we're not spinning our wheels, and that's why they
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: made a change.
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: I would also argue with the like, it's been long
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: enough I mean they won the Super Bowl.
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: I was gonna say that it's not that long ago,
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: like we're so spoiled here, Yeah, it's so spoiled. I
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: don't look at how long do we have to wait? Well,
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: how long does you know Cleveland have to wait as
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: the Buffalo Bills?
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: Right, I don't look at it. And you know, just
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: to talk William off the ledge a little bit, I
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: would just say, don't look at it as a five
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: year It's not five years. This is year one of
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: this regime. And I get it's frustrating that they haven't
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: won a playoff games since twenty eighteen. Regardless of if
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: that's spoiled or not. It's frustrating they haven't won a
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: playoff games since twenty eighteen. But we have to give
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: this regime a chance. And I do think it was.
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: Was it possible, if everything had gone right for them
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: and broke their way this offseason, that they could have
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: addressed quarterback, tackle, receiver and one off season? It was possible,
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: but they would have had to have hit a home run,
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: like they would have had land Ridley and drafted the
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: right left tackle in the second round, and like it
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: all would have had to have gone their way, and
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: so it would have been it was hard.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: I will say this, since Tom Brady left, the Patriots
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: have not underachieved. Okay, so they got that going for him.
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: Would you have been happier if they signed Jonah Williams
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: and Calvin Ridley or made another, you know, another number
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: one receiver?
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: If Ridley wasn't your guy, Like you know, there's been
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: guys available, you know what you know, Jerry Judy, I
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: think if you did that, I think would you feel
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: better about William william Definitely?
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: What I'm wondering if it depends on what they still
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: did in the draft, Like I wouldn't have wanted those
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: guys to be the only thing.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: Everything else is the same, everything else would be So they.
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: Still draft Polk and Baker, then yes, obviously, but I
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: still would have wanted the young talent in the pipeline.
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: Like if they had draft, if they had signed Calvin
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: Ridley and then said we don't need any more receivers,
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: I would have been like whoa, whoa, whoa, Like what
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: are we doing? But if they had done everything else
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: the same and they had the same exact draft class,
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: but you're just had Calvin Ridley on this team instead
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: of not having Calvin Ridley then not Yeah, obviously I
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: would take that.
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: So with signing Calvin Ridley, would that have knock dropped
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: the ability to resign or extend all the people that
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: we've extended.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: It should?
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: Yeah, they have like forty five minutes million in cat
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: space now right, Yeah.
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: Depends on how much they would have had to be
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: one perspective, like in terms of cash, like maybe.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: I don't know cap space.
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: Might Robert Kraft have a different answer to that, yes, right,
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: But that's why I would say I would rather have
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: had a number one receiver and Ridley included because I
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: like Ridley, than resigning every guy they resigned, Like pick
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: a couple of those guys and say, we don't need
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: to keep Kendrick Bourne. I can give the money I
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: gave to Kenrick Bourne to help me put over the
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: top to get Calvin Ridley.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: I think you probably would see these guys already gone.
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: I don't know Kendrick Bourne probably, Yeah, But that's just
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: the example. Yeah, like that's any is he won obviously
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: because the guy's heard and all that, and.
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: You know kJ Osborne wouldn't be here, Not that that's big.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: Maybe maybe, yeah, Tim writes in Paul, how is Romandre's
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: contract in the same neighborhood as Christian McCaffrey's. One average
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: is nineteen million a year?
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: The other is he's six running backs? Yeah, but what's
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: the game the average annual value? Yeah, well that's number one. Yeah,
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: he's sixth. But you said they're in the same neighborhood.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: He's Yes, he's in the top, but that there's but
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: number six. There's thirty two starting running backs.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: He's six, I know, But what is the gap between
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: him and McCaffrey, Well, what's the.
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: Gap between him and the next guy? You said they're
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: in the same neighborhood running backs?
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: Yeah? Are they?
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: I was talking about McCaffrey, Ecklett, all those guys that
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: you said, not bad company to be in. I'm like, yeah,
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: except he doesn't produce like them, right, But he's paid
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: in that neighborhood.
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: Is he? Yes, this guy says it's ten million dollars
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: less a year. One guy McCaffrey, Right, that's who we
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: were talking.
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: I was talking about all of the guys who caught passes,
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: all right, not just one one guy.
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: McCaffrey's the best running back and because we should play
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: back the tape because that comment came after I said
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: I was comparing. I was talking about in general. So
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: if I misspoke, I misspoke.
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: But I was talking about he's in the upper echelon
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: of running backs paid, he's in that neighborhood.
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: That's where he is.
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: Okay, Oh maybe I did. Maybe I'm guilty of moving
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: the goal post.
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: I learned it from you. I learned it from you.
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: I will if you want to play it back. And
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: I was talking, I wasn't talking specifically about McCaffrey, but maybe.
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: That's I was. Maybe that's what came out, and Tim
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: thought so too.
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: But good Tim, I would argue that he's not even
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: in a planet of Christian McCaffrey, and that the contracts
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: aren't that far apart, okay, like when one's one and
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: one's six, Like that's not that big a gap to me.
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: And there's no impact that Stevenson's never made the impact
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: on a game that McCaffrey has.
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: Uh shutters and Manchester says, how do you think May
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: should be given time in the preseason first drives with
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: the ones? Or Brissett should get the first look? Should
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: May get a largest share of the reps to aid
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: his development. It's a great question.
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see Jacoby at
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: all in the preseason, Like if we.
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: Just saw it, if we saw, I mean I would,
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: I would, I would. I would play him, I mean
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: I would, I would. Yeah, Yeah, I kind of want to.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: I kind of want to know what I have in
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: him too. If I'm Alex van Pelt, you know, under
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: my offense, and then what do you do?
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: Yeah, we talked about this on Catch twenty two.
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: I think he probably gets more reps, but the best
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: time with the one I would say definitely in the
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: first and third game.
- 1:28:41Speaker 7: I feel like I would. I would really want to
- 1:28:43Speaker 7: get a look at Drake May. And but I think
- 1:28:45Speaker 7: from my perspective, I think you got to see Jacoby
- 1:28:47Speaker 7: Brissett in the offense and just get a sense of
- 1:28:49Speaker 7: how it feels. I mean, even if it's just a
- 1:28:51Speaker 7: half with kind of the starters, you know, I don't
- 1:28:53Speaker 7: think you could go the whole time without giving Jacoby
- 1:28:56Speaker 7: Brissett an opportunity. But I want to see probably more
- 1:28:58Speaker 7: Drake May.
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: But May has to play in all three games. Yeah,
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: but I wonder I think that's a great question. Gets
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: the reps of the ones?
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: Who plays with the starters? Yeah, don't. I would have
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: guessed that, and the ones play.
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: Jacoby Brissett probably plays the second preseason game with the
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: starters to start the game, and then Drake Bay probably
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: starts one and three, but with the two's.
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: You know not that's probably yeah, right?
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: So do you think it will just be split between
- 1:29:25Speaker 5: them too, and like Zappi just chills.
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: Zappi is gonna chill. Joe Miller might.
- 1:29:29Speaker 7: Get yeah, like fourth quarter, last couple of drives like Cunningham.
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, unless they want to showcase Zappy, then I think,
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: you know, third preseason game.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: I don't. I don't think we have time to be
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: showcasing anyone. We need to get this team ready to
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: play in preseason.
- 1:29:44Speaker 5: But I feel like Zamply doesn't need to be showcased.
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: If you're interested in him as a backup, go look
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: at last season.
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: You're good.
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: I feel like we have this conversation every year, like
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: you don't get any preparation for the season in preseason games.
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:56Speaker 7: I think the joint practice two feeds into this, Like
- 1:29:59Speaker 7: how are the rep going to be divided up?
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: And joined me, maybe that's better.
- 1:30:02Speaker 7: That's where you maybe get a chance to give Drake
- 1:30:04Speaker 7: May some opportunities against their best defense.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: I'm still saying Drake May starts week one. Really, since
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: when have you been saying this? I've been saying it.
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: I've been saying it. Wow, people have been talking.
- 1:30:15Speaker 7: I'm making an argument down making an argument in Cincinnati.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: So I was on with Tony last week and.
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: They asked me about what I would do, and I said,
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: if it were up to me, I would play in
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: Week one. I don't expect that to happen, but you
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: would have thought that. I said, like, if we're up
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: to me, you know, I put Hitler back in powers.
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: Like I got a tacked like what are you doing
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: put in the first first first game?
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: Does don't you think he needs to? Like No, I'm
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: saying like, if it were up to me, and I
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: saw some like, right, what am I doing? Obviously I'm
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: not want to get ready to play if he's throwing
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: up on himself in practices, obviously not. But I'm putting
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: him in there assuming that he is. He has proven
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: in practices.
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: This summer that he's our best quarterback, that he's going
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: to start week one.
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: Obviously shown some development training camp, he hasn't gone out
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: there and fallen down.
- 1:31:10Speaker 7: I just feel like, if you're watching games with Jacobe Brissette,
- 1:31:14Speaker 7: you come out of it being like that was fine,
- 1:31:16Speaker 7: but it doesn't really matter. Like you know, they beat it,
- 1:31:18Speaker 7: they beat a team, they lose a team, it's well,
- 1:31:20Speaker 7: all right, But Drake May's coming and that's going to
- 1:31:22Speaker 7: change everything anyway.
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: So Freddie has me induced I like this. He's not
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: saying he would start in week one. He's saying he's
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: going would start. I don't think he has a chance
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: to if he comes.
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: Out in the preseason though, and he kind of has
- 1:31:37Speaker 5: reverted back to his old ways. But work wise, would
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: you still start him or you're.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: Like notions on the ground change, I'll change. But right
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: now I'm saying he's going to do what it takes
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: in preseason practice this summer to be the Week one starter.
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: When you watch all the film, what was what was
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: the game that Drake May? Was it NC State that
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: he was terrible.
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: Like terrible state and cles in towards the end of
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: the time.
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: I'd rather have that Drake May start Week one. Then
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: Jacoby Brissette, I understand why. I really do. I think
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: that's the only way to develop.
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: I just think that the best reaction, the reaction to
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: to Paul on his shows that he was physically on
- 1:32:16Speaker 4: still his shows. Uh, it all depends on how you
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: felt about Drake May before the draft.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: Yeah, they think he's like this, but they listened to
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: two years project, Like, I don't think he's a project.
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not like faulting them for that. But if
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: you're somebody like me that that Drake May was great
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: from the start, then I don't understand why it's such
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: an outlandish take to say that week one is a possibility.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: But if you're somebody that is listening to Orlovsky and
- 1:32:43Speaker 4: he's telling you that the guy needs to sit for
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: two years, then you say week.
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: One, they're going to be like, well, Fred, I'm Fred.
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: Was Josh Allen listed as a project?
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: Yes, significant project, but he started we started note one
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: But he started very early, did he?
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:32:58Speaker 8: He was.
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: I mean Josh Allen didn't even complete.
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: He was all over the play.
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: Yeah, but you saw he's better than what you have. Well,
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: his row talent was always and I.
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: Think you're gonna see that this summer and I don't
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: think it's just gonna be raw talent. I think it's
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: going to be I would say that until too.
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: Drake May's decision making and just like processing is probably
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: a little bit ahead of where Josh Allen's was coming
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: into the league, but they're similar.
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: Also.
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: I like what Paul mentioned last week where we talked
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: about c. J. Stroud, It's like when we saw him
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: in the preseason, you would have no idea that that
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: to who he was going to be by the end
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: of the season. Like there were two totally different quarterbacks.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: Can't find out by playing them.
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: Even in like the first game of the year, he
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: played pretty well, Like I didn't. I wasn't very impressed
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: with what I saw, and that again, it just shows
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: you how little those preseason games matter.
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: Yeah, he looked overmatched.
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: Well, I threw a pick I think first play of
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: the game right to Jalen Mills.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: First, it was the first series anyway, if it wasn't
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: the first play, and he just looked like he was
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: running around and I don't everything looked really fast for him.
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: And then he plays the first game against one of
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: the best teams in football and was more than competitive.
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: I don't know the answer to this, So I'm just asking.
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: I think we've talked about it before, so maybe I
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: should know the answer. How many high first round quarterback
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: picks didn't start in Week one that didn't have a
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: playoff quarterback already on the roster, like an Alex Smith
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: or an Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: I mean, we I'd have to go back and look
- 1:34:23Speaker 4: at at week one. It's like, off the top of
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: my head, Year one starter I can probably remember.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: But I'm not saying they started right away, because you know,
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: Year one starter that could be halfway through.
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: Well, just looking at this year, Chicago has already declared
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: Caleb Williams the starter. Washington has already declared Jade o'
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: daniel Jayden Daniels the starter.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Yeah, those are the first two picks.
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: Yeah, So, like, I don't know why this is generally
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: how they do that, but everybody does it because they
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: see that some of these like whatever you want to say,
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: sixty first round quarterbacks fail, yeah, seventy nine, whatever number
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: you want to Most of these.
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: Guys fail, all right, fail fast, but fail fast.
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: I just I don't look at it as a cause
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: and effect, Like I don't look at it as he
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: failed because he started Week one as the two overall pick.
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: I don't think it's I don't think that's the case.
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: I don't think it's because of that. And I've heard
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: enough arguments from the other guys that do play that
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: tell you the immense experience they gained that they could
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: not get by sitting right.
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: Yeah, the argument is always is the roster ready for
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: the quarterback?
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: Like so if Zach Wilson or you know, just it's
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: an easy example. But like Sam Darnold had a lot
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: of footwork issues coming into the league. If they didn't
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: have hadn't thrown him into an offense that was terrible,
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: and they waited a year and built up the offense
- 1:35:50Speaker 4: with another offseason and another draft and all that kind
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: of stuff and started stacking together you know, personnel, Would
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: Sam Darnold have been a better player. I tend to
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: think that's a Darnold just wasn't going to.
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: Be the guy he's going to be.
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: Okay, Yeah, and that's it. But like some people would
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: believe that they developed him incorrectly because they threw him.
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: To the Wolves.
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: Yeah, like I had, you know, a part of this
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: with Tony and I like arguing with Tony because he's
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: like me, he's just going to keep on, He's going
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: to keep going at it and never necessarily relents. But
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: he's like, you know, like a guy like Zach Wilson,
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: same team, right, you know, you don't think he was hurt.
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: By playing right away. I go, that's funny.
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: All I ever hear you tell me Tony about Zach
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: Wilson is he's a moron. So that's his fault that
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: he played right away because he's a moron, or maybe
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: because he makes bad decisions.
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: It didn't work right, And whether he played in week
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: five or next year, he's still a moron.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: Like if he's a moron in year three without ever playing,
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: he's still a moron according.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: To you, the duck.
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: I just feel like it's so easy to sit back
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: and say you ruined him when it doesn't work. Blame
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: the coaches, don't blame the player, you know.
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: And I get it. Quarterback is a different position. It's
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: it's unique among kind of all positions in sports. But
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: is there any other position in any sport where you
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: say it's better to not play than to play in
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: order to get better. It's better to not play. The
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: miners right, but they're playing.
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's right, Like I don't understand what that sports,
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: but that's ample. But that's an example of what he's
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: talking about. Like, even if you like take it to
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: like a high school level, you get like a young
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: kid who's good enough to be on varsity, but he's
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: not gonna play.
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: What do they do? They send him to JV so
- 1:37:33Speaker 2: he plays every day. You don't sit him on.
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: You don't like say, well, he's really gonna learn as
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: a freshman sitting and watching all the varsity games more
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: than he would be playing in the JV games. Well,
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: that's what they basically do to these quarterbacks.
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: They don't do it a lot, but I feel like
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: that's gonna happen to Brownie. Like Brownie's not ready, but
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: he doesn't need to be sitting.
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: On the bench.
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: He's not ready because he's probably correct, but I feel
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: like they're they're gonna make it playing the gi Yeah
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: for sure.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: Because ideas you're playing. Yeah.
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: My favorite line on that was Rich Paul the day
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: of the draft imploring all the teams not to draft
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: him because he's just going to go to Australia.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: Got it thanks to see uh good hey, mate, Like,
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: there was.
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: No chance that anybody other than the Lakers was going
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: to draft him. And I don't care about the nepotism.
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: You could do whatever you want. That's your team. You've
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: sold your soul to Lebron. He's hired the last however
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: many coaches. What's the difference, Like, I don't care about that,
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: But just don't tell me that it was a pick
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: that you made because of the player.
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: He's the best player available. Yeah, hey, Mike, this is
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: from Eric in Mike el Paso. They're filming a Wes
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: Anderson movie here with Leonardo DiCaprio and Benecio del Toro.
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: Anything to look for that may be cool behind the scenes,
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: like setups and stuff like that. Sure, Yeah, I.
- 1:38:52Speaker 7: Mean go try to be an extra, maybe make a
- 1:38:54Speaker 7: make a day rate, get some free lunch.
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: My roommate did that and they were filming a spencer
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: for hire on Boylson Street and he got to be
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: an extra. Yeah, yeah, got it. Well play.
- 1:39:07Speaker 7: Paul's got the best stories about being extraving left feel
- 1:39:13Speaker 7: the dreams that I would just say though, and I
- 1:39:16Speaker 7: said this to all these guys, know it, Like I
- 1:39:18Speaker 7: find being on set tedious and my numbing. So I
- 1:39:22Speaker 7: I if you want to go and watch them, like
- 1:39:24Speaker 7: shoot the same scenes six times and relight it and.
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: It's a it's a long day. It's a long process.
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: Not for me. Alex in New York, my son literally
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: gags if you put any fruit in his mouth. And
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: while I love fruit, I just don't understand it. Allergies
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: to pitted fruit are because they grow on trees. If
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: you have allergies to trees, you have allergies to things
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: that grow on trees. I have the same issue. I
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: used to get itchy when I ate pitted fruit and
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: have had allergy shots for trees and I'm no longer allergic.
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: Givem that a shot. On the earlier note about Roman Drake,
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: are they putting too many eggs in one basket? Keeping
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: the running back room so lean? If Mandri gets hurt,
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: then it's just Gibson And who do you anticipate us
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: picking up another running back before the season, perhaps during
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: camp after cutdowns? I think, so there's a lot out there.
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: That's the thing again.
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: So I have something that was just sent to me
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: from Bett online. You can have a little fun here.
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: Late in the show, they have the opening twenty twenty
- 1:40:28Speaker 3: four NFL quarterback Stats.
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: Oh, so they take like.
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers regular season passing yards over under thirty seven
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: hundred and a half. Oh, wokay, so they interestingly, I
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: think they list Drake May, not Jacoby Brissett. So what
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: do you think they have listed for the regular season
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: passing yards over under total for Drake May?
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: Twenty six hundred, fifteen hundred.
- 1:40:52Speaker 4: That's going to say nineteen hundred, okay.
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: Thirty one hundred and a half. It's had a lot
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: Today's NFL. No, but obviously he's going to play three
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: quarters season.
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: Regular season passing touchdowns twelve ten, seventeen, twenty, fifteen and
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: a half, fifteen and a half, interceptions.
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: Fifteen and twelve twelve. Oh, we got it, twelve and
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: a half. Those are the numbers. Wow, those are the numbers,
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: and they are undisputed. I mean, but it's that that
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: whole bet is just based on So you think that
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: is from BET? I want to make sure I credit
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: him bet online dot AG.
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: Yes, that's correct.
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: What's the R for? I do not know. That's some
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: country somewhere that a.
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: Few teams have situations clouded by who exactly will be
- 1:41:45Speaker 3: the start of those teams are Denver, Las Vegas, Minnesota,
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: New England and Pittsburgh.
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: All right, used to be a big sponsor over at
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: Clinnis Denver.
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: Do you really think that's going to be a competition.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they don't have a quarterback? Yeah? Who who
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: is be anybody?
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: I mean it could be the new guy did it
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: could be Stitty b Nicks, bon Nicks Wilson. I think
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: it could be any I think it could be any
- 1:42:09Speaker 3: of those three.
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: He's like thirty.
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: Pat Nagawam like that. He is the only way to
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: make slash eat hot dogs, grill or nothing. Brand is
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: Nathan's all beef. I do not like Nathan's really Nathan's.
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: Nathan's like the regular like.
- 1:42:30Speaker 4: They're good to Yeah, we had Pearl.
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: Pearl pretty good. It'll never hears Pearl pretty good. I
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: used to know that family like Kim is good, like
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: Bullpark Franks really really good.
- 1:42:46Speaker 5: Nathan.
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: Yeah, but Nathan's. I love Nathan's.
- 1:42:49Speaker 7: You don't like Nathan's like, yeah, I don't know to crispy,
- 1:42:52Speaker 7: like a good crack like the skin.
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: No, you want to know the role is New Style
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: split top Now, dude, people know what New England outside
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: of New England. We mean by New England hot dog roll.
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: So a regular hot dog roll is has is brown
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: on the outside, right, it's got crushed. But a New
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: England one is white on the outside, like they take
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: the crust off. Oh that's only a New England that. Yeah,
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: it's a New England cut. I did not know that.
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: I do like those better. Yeah, I don't like the
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: ones that I have. The brown yeah, yeah, like the
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: heel of bread.
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: I don't like that.
- 1:43:27Speaker 7: The roles in Germany were awesome, remember the hot dog
- 1:43:31Speaker 7: role where it was like a real baked role.
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: See, I don't like that. Did I have a hot
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: too much bread? Too much bread?
- 1:43:38Speaker 7: You were doing your TV show and we were wandering
- 1:43:40Speaker 7: and you guys dish dog.
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: Whether it's a hamburger or the bread, the bread is
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: just to hold it together.
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: All I know is that Teas and I like found
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: a spot on the last day before the game to
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: get some street meat. My goodness was good. I forget
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: what they called it, but.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: I didn't. It wasn't bad. It was like it was
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: like it's like a big flattened piece of fried chicken.
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: I mean it was like chicken. Couple of schnitzel.
- 1:44:08Speaker 7: It sounds like something special, but it's like, what did
- 1:44:11Speaker 7: you think it was?
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: I don't know not It's just a giant fried chicken,
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: so I knew what it was.
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: It came as an advertised yeah juice.
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: The toppings for the hot dog, according to Patrick, is
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: Weber's champagne, dill, mustard, wickles, sweet relish and red onions
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: or brown mustard and sour crat. I go with brown mustard,
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: round mustard and salad.
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: You big on and like that, like to that. It
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: has to be very specific that brand, this style.
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: But Golden's brown, golden brown mustard, mustard and sour krowd.
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: I like mustard and onions, very basic.
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: Ketchum and mustard, ketch them and.
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: Mustard on the hot dogs. People will say, catch, it's
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: not bad. Ketch him on the hot dog? Pretty good.
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: A lot of people say t J every every hot
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: dog three year old ketch I go, when are you
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: gonna him? Every time it's what are you gonna grow
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: out of that?
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: And I feel like Fred when I do it, like
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: what are you gonna grow out of that?
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: What's on your hamburger?
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: Cheese? And then it depends like if it's if there's
- 1:45:18Speaker 2: lettuce in mayo on it and in tomato, then I
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: have mayo. But if there's not, maybe I'll put some ketchup.
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: On it, mustard ketchup on barbecue. But sometimes I love
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: barbecue sauce.
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: I like to taste the hamburger and the cheese without
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: a condiment first, just to see if they need a condiment,
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: because sometimes the hamburger is so good you don't want
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: to ruin it with condiments.
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: That's true. There's something about a grilled there's something about
- 1:45:41Speaker 5: a grilled hamburger cheeseburger.
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: It just throw a couple of Thursday. Hey, tomorrow's the day, right, Wait,
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: Thursday Thursday? It Well, I can't have a hamburger tonight
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: and then have another one. And there's too many hamburgers.
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: Craig and Charlotte. I wonder if that's the Craig that
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: we know. We haven't seen him in a long time.
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: Remember Craig Charlie figures in South Carolina? Oh? Is he
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: in South Carolina? Pauley's Island? Right? Okay, I don't want
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: to criticize too much before we see the product in
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: the field. But something rattling around my mind. Wolf Slash
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: Mayo have emphasized the importance of getting the right people
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: in the building, but they had a little trouble getting
- 1:46:22Speaker 2: their first choice in a few things reported top o
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: c option Nick Kaylee wanted too much money. Feels like
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: they missed out on a number of top assistant coach targets,
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: missed out on Calvin Ridley, unable to trade back into
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: the first for presumable wide receiver target. Maybe some of
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: this is speculation, and I'm sure this happens every year,
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: but we likely didn't hear about it under Belichick. But
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: do you have any concern about Wolf and Mayo's ability
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: to execute on their vision? Well, I think they needed
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: so many things not yet.
- 1:46:52Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I just I like that they were aggressive,
- 1:46:56Speaker 7: you know, but I think the team's going to have
- 1:46:57Speaker 7: to win and they're going to have to show that
- 1:46:59Speaker 7: they're building something here before they can, you know, get
- 1:47:01Speaker 7: over those humps. I mean, I don't know about the
- 1:47:03Speaker 7: trade and backup stuff. I do like the point though
- 1:47:05Speaker 7: about you kind of know everything that's going on now,
- 1:47:07Speaker 7: so you know, I think there are probably a lot
- 1:47:09Speaker 7: of that kind of stuff that we weren't even aware
- 1:47:11Speaker 7: with with the pre previous regime.
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: But I think it just it comes back to draft.
- 1:47:15Speaker 7: Well, win some games, start to build something, people see
- 1:47:18Speaker 7: what's going on here, You're gonna start to attract.
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: Out of all those things.
- 1:47:21Speaker 3: The only thing I could see you knowing about is
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: if they were trying to trade back into the first
- 1:47:26Speaker 3: that tended to trickle out those that kind of stuff.
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: But if they were like interviewing three offensive coordinator candidates
- 1:47:34Speaker 3: and they didn't get the one they wanted, I don't
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: think we'd know that if Bill was was.
- 1:47:38Speaker 7: Nick Hilly the better option than Alex van Pelt young.
- 1:47:41Speaker 3: They thought he was, Like it really doesn't matter, yes
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: or no, it matters, that's what they wanted.
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I will say I do like the a VP
- 1:47:49Speaker 5: option in regards to molding Drake Men because he's worked
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: with so many other quarterbacks and so he has that experience.
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I think That's what I was kind of
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: getting at.
- 1:47:58Speaker 7: Was you know, I mean, I think there's that argument
- 1:48:00Speaker 7: should certainly be made and Nick Keley it's a little
- 1:48:02Speaker 7: bit like he's never done this.
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: I think you can make a strong argument that Nick
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: Keley has never done it. So you want a young
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: guy who's never done it or an old guy who's
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: never done it right. I think I would probably side
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: with the experience.
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: And who played the position in the pro level. True,
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: Brad and Amanda claim to be ASSI lip readers. Oh nice,
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: and they say, we've been watching you all live on
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: mute in the background the whole show. There are two
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: things we can't figure out. One, your drink bottle sizes
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: enough with the imperial system already. What does that mean?
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: They're not leaders?
- 1:48:36Speaker 7: I don't know, it's not These are fluid ouncers, three
- 1:48:41Speaker 7: hundred and fifty five milli leaders.
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: And then to Paul, what was Fred moving the goalposts?
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: About this time we saw the hand motion of them moving.
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: I was actually moving the goalpost.
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: This time Fred was pointing out that I was moving
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: the goal post. I mistakenly said that Remindrie Stevenson's contract
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: was in the neighborhood of Christian McCaffrey, when in fact
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: I really meant he's in the top six of running backs,
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: so he's in the neighborhood of the highest paid running backs,
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: but not specifically McCaffrey.
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: So I'm the one that moved the goal keeping it
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: on mute. Please read and challenge you to answer creatively.
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: So I don't know, like, how do we answer that? Creator?
- 1:49:17Speaker 3: So I moved the goal post again, and I want
- 1:49:19Speaker 3: to do this creatively?
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: Where are they from the Australia Australia? So it's like this,
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: all right, yeah, did we do that? I don't think
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: so he got you got a bit well. I don't
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: know if I agree with this. Anthony says Evan. Try
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: some melon or candle wrapped in proscudo. It's awesome, is it.
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: I'm just going to tell you right now. I'm not
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: going to try.
- 1:49:50Speaker 9: It. I just.
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: May be enough of a cover for the fruit taste
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: to make it palatable. In my opinion, it's fantastic. So
- 1:49:59Speaker 2: if you killing the taste, and.
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: Why even you're not, you're just making juicy meat.
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: Please keep I'm sorry.
- 1:50:05Speaker 6: What a melon ball with persudo wrapped around it? You
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: take a bite out of that, you're just eating juicy meat.
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: He actually repeated it that in the street meat. I
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: think we're going into places where you know anyway, keep
- 1:50:18Speaker 2: trade or kill. Fourth of July activity trade kill Fourth
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: of July activities, fireworks kill water activities and drinking? Oh,
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: drinking keep water activities? What is it? Kill? Fireworks? Trade? Oh?
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: I would. I would.
- 1:50:36Speaker 3: I guess I would trade the water activities. Okay, I
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: have no use for I am not a fireworks guy.
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not anymore either. I've grown up. I've seen it.
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: Tell me you like advance in like fireworks technology, Like
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: I feel like I.
- 1:50:51Speaker 2: Saw something about that at some point in my life.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: I don't even know. I can't pinpoint. They started being
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: able to make like shapes like things like that, which
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: were cool, but now we have been evolved any further
- 1:51:02Speaker 4: from there.
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: So it's like I've seen this brillion I did something.
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: One of the communities in our area did something with
- 1:51:08Speaker 3: like AI. Yeah, generated and supposedly, you know, they lost
- 1:51:13Speaker 3: me at it's you know, better for the environment, no sense,
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: but I guess it was a decent show.
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: But like I'm I'm with I'm with you guys, I've
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: seen it all. I'm not I think. Yeah, what do
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: you like to say, Disney fireworks, I'm not here for that.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: I'm not here here for that.
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: Disneyworks said, Disney fireworks, you can't beat them, no matter
- 1:51:33Speaker 6: what age.
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: I've been in that park on the fourth of July. Yeah,
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: they happen every night. It's great. The Elethetic. You kind
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: of end the night with the fireworks. It's great for kids,
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: Absolutely great for kids. Now here's a Disney tip, your tip.
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: If you're in the Magic Kingdom and when they're doing
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: the fireworks, that's when you go and do your rides
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: because everyone's gathered, and that's when you go do your
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: rides like that. Probably chess. I'm here today to make this.
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: The only thing missing on Splash Mountain was a sniff uh.
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: Anthony also says you gotta see if Hardy can hook
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: you up with some Google Vienna's for the fourth the
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: best hot dog in the world. What does Hardy get.
- 1:52:21Speaker 7: He got the hook of Tari doesn't like us any
- 1:52:22Speaker 7: Hey man, you want some hot dogs, He's not got
- 1:52:25Speaker 7: what you need.
- 1:52:26Speaker 6: You gotta have Rhode Island hot dogs called Soggy's. Yeah,
- 1:52:31Speaker 6: they're like the hot dogs with a little crunch to.
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: Them, bit like that juicy meat you were talking. I'm
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: gonna have to talk to someone in the Mayor's office
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: about that. I don't like that at all, Soggy's. Let's see,
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: let me see what you did there. We'll finish up
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: with Barton Poland, who has and evan criticism we can't.
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: We like to end every show with someone. The guy
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: from Poland's always going to you, Evan. It's just the
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: same guy. But yeah, he like.
- 1:52:55Speaker 4: Listens and reads religiously. I appreciate it.
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: He says. I gotta I gotta say. Evan had one
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: of the worst sports takes over the weekend. Oh oh,
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: the moment you implemented replay into sports. You have to
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: agree with the calls being called right down to a millimeter.
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: Offside in football. Soccer is offside even by a toenail
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: case closed, same with a touchdown in American football. You
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: cannot bring subjective judgment to an objective decision. If you
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: have var instant replay, you have to break it down
- 1:53:26Speaker 2: to millimeters if you like, if you like it or not.
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: And please stop with the bs that the call has
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: to be obvious. Okay, so tell me when the call
- 1:53:34Speaker 2: becomes obvious enough to overturn. People love to preach beautiful
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: slogans about the fairness of the game, et cetera. But
- 1:53:41Speaker 2: when you ask them how they would change the rules,
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: they go awfully quiet.
- 1:53:44Speaker 4: Okay, so I have a whole thing about this that's
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: going to take more than three minutes. But The biggest
- 1:53:49Speaker 4: thing here is that I have the rules that are
- 1:53:51Speaker 4: in place, Like he's misunderstanding my point. The rules that
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: are in place, with the rules like now you have
- 1:53:56Speaker 4: to follow the rules, like they have the uh you know,
- 1:53:58Speaker 4: assisted off sides and over euros, and like the rule
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: is is that that's what you go by. So I'm
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: not saying don't follow the letter of the rule. I'm
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: just telling you that I think it has ruined the
- 1:54:08Speaker 4: sport because now I've watched a ton of international soccer
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: over the last couple of weeks, and I cannot tell
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: you how many goals I have seen come back because
- 1:54:19Speaker 4: VAR ten minutes later has decided that it's offside, right, Okay.
- 1:54:24Speaker 4: But my point is is that there was a call
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: in the Germany. I forget who they were playing, but
- 1:54:28Speaker 4: is Germany's game, And when I tell you that it
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: was a toenail, it was literally offside by a toenail, okay,
- 1:54:37Speaker 4: And they took back a goal because the VAR technology
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: said that he was offside. And I just feel like
- 1:54:44Speaker 4: it ruins like the sport because it's just like you
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: celebrate a goal, you think you have a goal. Obviously,
- 1:54:49Speaker 4: goals are rare in soccer, and then they bring it
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: back because the guy the technology is telling you that
- 1:54:56Speaker 4: he's offside by a millimeter, and it's like, not only
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: did it ruin the moment of the game, I know,
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: but like you're offside. But my point is is that
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: if the naked eye like my so, what would be
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: my answer? Right? Everybody says is, well, what would you
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: be your answer? The answer is is that you have
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: a replay official like the NFL does, like most sports do.
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: If it's not obvious by the naked eye that he's offside.
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: There should be a time limit. Then you go with
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: the call in the sea, there should be a time
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: limit by which they make a decision. I go with that.
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: My one thing that I would say about the emailer
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: is and I don't know. I'm I'm not going to
- 1:55:32Speaker 3: relate this to European soccer because I don't know the answer.
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: But in the US, the leagues that have replay, the
- 1:55:40Speaker 3: word obvious is part of the rule. Yes, it's supposed
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: to be an obvious error, right, clear incontrovertible evidence. You know,
- 1:55:48Speaker 3: like anybody watching in a bar would all come to
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: the same conclusion. It's not adjudicated like that. People just like,
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: like David's point, it's like a millimeter off side when
- 1:55:59Speaker 3: you have to go back and forth and back. If
- 1:56:01Speaker 3: you have to go back and sides are ridiculous, then
- 1:56:04Speaker 3: go with the call. It's supposed to be clear and obvious.
- 1:56:07Speaker 2: But think but the people who say get rid of replay,
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: that's just as nuts because did you see the play
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: in baseball happened like a couple of weeks ago where
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: guy sliding into second and his helmet fell off and
- 1:56:19Speaker 2: the guy tagged the helmet. So the call on the
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: field was he was out, But they looked at the
- 1:56:25Speaker 2: replay and his helmet was not was off and he
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: tagged the helmet. He was clearly safe. So it was
- 1:56:31Speaker 2: pretty obvious. It was obvious that wouldn't have been Like but.
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: I'm saying if they did it like that, I don't
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: think people would keep playing degree. Yeah, but when they're
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: breaking down frame by frame.
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: It's so blurry you can't even see because they've zoomed
- 1:56:45Speaker 4: in a hundred times into the frame and you're looking
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: at it and you're like, you think the puck isn't
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: in this.
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: I don't know if there was another play. I'll watch
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: a lot of Red Sox. But I think Hamilton was,
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: you know, scraping his toe to do a double play
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: second bay, and like if you looked at the third
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: ban at third base angle, it looked like his foot
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: was off. If you looked at the other angle, it
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: looked like he scraped it. Now, the call in the
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: field was the guy was safe. You had to stick
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: with safe. You have two angles that you couldn't tell.
- 1:57:15Speaker 2: You got to go with the call in the field,
- 1:57:17Speaker 2: you know. And they have a strict time limit I
- 1:57:19Speaker 2: believe in baseball where they have to make and that's
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: I'm all for that. Yeah, it just me too.
- 1:57:24Speaker 4: My point isn't tune for the way the soccer rule
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: is written. You have to do it the way it's
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: written now. But my whole point is is just that
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: I can I've seen half a dozen goals come back
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: because of the VAAR technology, and they they deem it up,
- 1:57:37Speaker 4: they deem it off side, and it just in that
- 1:57:39Speaker 4: sport where you wait for a goal and you could
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: go to the whole freaking game without them scoring, and
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: then they finally put one in the back of the
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: net and then a guy's toenail is offside. It not
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: only did it ruin the moment in the game. But
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: Germany went through in a game that they probably should
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: have lost.
- 1:57:56Speaker 2: Well, England had one of those. They ended up winning
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: the game, but they were they were behind, won nothing,
- 1:58:01Speaker 2: and they had the goal and it was just the
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: tip of his cleat was off side. Was that scored twice? Yeah?
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: They scored twice?
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean and then last night, you
- 1:58:11Speaker 3: know the USA Soccer contributions to so it.
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: Just it's a mess.
- 1:58:15Speaker 4: The replay is a mess, and they.
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: Just take soccer. But I think I love the var
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: the way they do it, like they do it in
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: three dimensional.
- 1:58:23Speaker 4: So only something to the problem is is that only
- 1:58:25Speaker 4: some UH high confederations have the budget for that. So
- 1:58:30Speaker 4: they have that in Euros but they don't have that
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: copa yeah and copa. So that's not why the US lost.
- 1:58:35Speaker 2: But all right, that's going to be it for this
