- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Well, it's actually good afternoon because you know,
- 0:33tomorrow morning it will be dark, but hey, we're doing out
- 0:35here and we're doing it now. So we're going to get to be in
- 0:38the coop. In any event.
- 0:40Let's talk about how quickly are you willing to shift and change
- 0:47in order to get progress. It's an interesting question
- 0:51when you start to ask yourself that.
- 0:52Now this is coming up because for me, this is one of those
- 0:55things that I, I am very stubborn.
- 0:58And if I get an idea in my head, it takes me a while to be
- 1:02willing to shift. I mean, I'm just going to be
- 1:05honest about it. It's not that I'm not willing to
- 1:07shift. It just takes me a while because
- 1:10I get this idea in my head and I don't want to make any
- 1:13adaptations typically because I see it done in my head.
- 1:17Now sometimes it's it's spot on and it works.
- 1:20And I'll say a good amount of the time it works that way,
- 1:23especially if I'm working on a creative idea and I get it in my
- 1:26head. Like right now I'm redoing the
- 1:28whole chicken run area and I see how I want it to be and I I get
- 1:33hunkered down on that's what's going to happen.
- 1:36And for I'm going to give you a great example because we need to
- 1:39have this like little cover up to where the chickens can.
- 1:43I can open their main doors and then they have a cover so they
- 1:45don't get rained on inside. Now this is, this is a
- 1:48conversation that's been going on since we got the new coop.
- 1:51So that's well over a year. And my husband has said
- 1:54repeatedly that I can't do what I want to do.
- 1:58So I just go, OK. And I pause and I let it go and
- 2:01I had tarps up and I had, they're not tops, but there's
- 2:04those things that like in a restaurant that cover you've
- 2:06with shade. And I had those up and then they
- 2:08blew down in the wind and there were all these problems with
- 2:11them. And I've talked about it before,
- 2:13but over time, I have never given up the concept of what I
- 2:17was initially looking for. Now, have I adapted to change in
- 2:21how I thought about it? Yes.
- 2:23Because I said, OK, I don't need a whole porch.
- 2:26I would just like to have a cover.
- 2:28So now we started having these adaptations, yet it's still the
- 2:33same idea, kind of. And he's finally come around to
- 2:37saying, OK, he's doing it. So it's interesting because I, I
- 2:42get stubborn, but I will make that shift.
- 2:46Sometimes it takes me a bit, if I'm completely honest because I
- 2:50hang on to what the original picture was.
- 2:53But here's the trick. I I can still see the end
- 2:56product and when I see it in my mind's eye, when I see it in my
- 3:00imagination, when my creativity has come up with it, I hate to
- 3:03let go of it because I can see it finished just like this
- 3:06chicken coop on the inside and how I envisioned it.
- 3:09Now. Am I going to be making new
- 3:10adaptations to it this year? Yes, 100% because I do all the
- 3:14time. It's going to get stripped down
- 3:17and cleaned out and painted very shortly.
- 3:20But it's a, it's a for me, it's a process.
- 3:25I like to have that, that vision and then I get locked into it.
- 3:30Now can it be disastrous if you're not flexible?
- 3:34Yes. But there's parts of this where
- 3:38if you're asking the right questions, you can see where you
- 3:41may go awry. Now, I can tell you, I ask those
- 3:45questions most of the time. Now, am I perfect with it?
- 3:48Nope, I am not. I would be lying if I said I was
- 3:51because there's sometimes where I'll say, Oh, I didn't think of
- 3:53that because maybe I'm asking something that I don't have
- 3:56knowledge of or, you know, I, I didn't understand something when
- 4:00I came up with it, which is fine.
- 4:02That's why you have to seek help from people and be willing to
- 4:05look at what other people have to say so you can take take that
- 4:08into consideration, which is the exact reason why I have a coach
- 4:11because he has different perspectives than me and it all
- 4:14blends together. So it's not about just saying,
- 4:18OK, I have this idea and I'm rigid on it.
- 4:22Because if you're rigid, we know rigid things break.
- 4:26It's it's more about how quickly can you do it?
- 4:28How long will you suffer with it?
- 4:30How long will you stay stuck before you realize you have to
- 4:33do something different? You have to change your approach
- 4:35to make the outcome. And that's what this is all
- 4:38about today. How quickly are you willing to
- 4:42make the shift? You know, do you have to keep
- 4:44running into the same wall over and over before you're willing
- 4:47to change? I'm not, you know, as I've
- 4:49gotten older, I've realized I'm just not willing to keep running
- 4:52into the wall, But I still will stick to my vision.
- 4:55I still will feel the root of it.
- 4:57I still will feel like I'm, I'm getting close to that part.
- 5:01And that's what makes me feel so good about it because I, I have
- 5:04maybe deviated a little bit from the original vision, but I still
- 5:07hold on to it because I know if I can get to that point, I'm
- 5:10going to be really excited about what I have.
- 5:13So consider that. Ask the right questions, make
- 5:16sure you're focused on your outcome, but make sure you've
- 5:19taken all the factors into consideration with asking the
- 5:23right questions and potentially of the right people so that you
- 5:26can get there as quickly as possible and not sit there and,
- 5:31you know, stay stubborn forever. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:34you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:37Bye.
