- 3:24Speaker 4: Good morning fellers, Good morning morning. How's it going to
- 3:27Speaker 4: Mister Quintreil.
- 3:28Speaker 5: Is going great? It's been a great morning so far.
- 3:30Speaker 6: All right, And mister reel Uh, you know, the West
- 3:33Speaker 6: Virginians take care of West Virginians.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I am always amazed and.
- 3:37Speaker 6: Never surprised at the way our listeners come through for folks.
- 3:42Speaker 6: Already a big stack of nonperishable food items for kids
- 3:46Speaker 6: in need in West Virginia. This summer, two thirds of
- 3:49Speaker 6: West Virginia kids on free or reduced cost meals at school.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Many of them dread Friday.
- 3:56Speaker 6: Afternoon each week because you know it may not be
- 3:58Speaker 6: until the breakfast service month day morning that they get
- 4:01Speaker 6: to eat. Now, expand that over the big summer break
- 4:05Speaker 6: and you can understand why we are out there on
- 4:08Speaker 6: the parking lot till six o'clock this evening. Everything from
- 4:11Speaker 6: goldfish and flaming hot Cheetos to beef jerky.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah, don't forget the pop tarts. Oh, absolutely, the pop tarts.
- 4:19Speaker 6: Jason may or may not have been given given the
- 4:22Speaker 6: given the eye to the cherry pop tarts, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 6: the way a cartoon hobo looks at a pie on
- 4:27Speaker 6: a window sill. But we've got a good stack going
- 4:31Speaker 6: so far, maybe a half truck full, and we would
- 4:34Speaker 6: we would love to see folks before six o'clock this evening.
- 4:36Speaker 4: As we speak, I just got a text from a
- 4:39Speaker 4: local business owner here in Charleston that said, Rob, you're
- 4:42Speaker 4: overdoing your bill. No, uh, hi, Tony, like anybody would
- 4:47Speaker 4: give you credit anyway, anybody believe me, especially inside this building.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I'm not getting any credit.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Uh.
- 4:54Speaker 4: But yeah, we actually did have a business owner just
- 4:57Speaker 4: reached out to me and just text me and ask
- 4:59Speaker 4: if if they could get cash and answer.
- 5:00Speaker 2: To that would be absolutely yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 2: So if you we.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Can take cash and check donations here on today eleven
- 5:08Speaker 4: eleven Virginistry, D's and Charles. But if people want to
- 5:10Speaker 4: go to the website, they can do that as well.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Jason, we feed people dot Com.
- 5:13Speaker 5: Hit the donate now button and you can tag that
- 5:17Speaker 5: gift for school feeding and it will go right to
- 5:21Speaker 5: that account.
- 5:22Speaker 2: All right, So there you go.
- 5:23Speaker 6: And it's something that I often talk about. We have
- 5:26Speaker 6: these drop events. We regularly scheduled three every year, and
- 5:30Speaker 6: then we end up adding one more because of a
- 5:32Speaker 6: specific need.
- 5:33Speaker 2: As we did with the flood recovery Las. Yes, sir, And.
- 5:38Speaker 6: There there is a certain percentage of folks for whom
- 5:41Speaker 6: they just they have to have something in their hands
- 5:44Speaker 6: and put in your hands for it to be real.
- 5:48Speaker 6: That's why we do snacks, that's why we do turkeys,
- 5:50Speaker 6: That's why we do socks in the winter. But let
- 5:53Speaker 6: me tell you, if you have even the smallest part
- 5:55Speaker 6: of your brain that can handle the abstract and can
- 5:57Speaker 6: just make a financial contribution, I know Jay and his
- 6:00Speaker 6: team can make that go so much farther with your
- 6:03Speaker 6: bulk buying power and your connections, that one dollar given
- 6:08Speaker 6: suddenly becomes two or three or five because of the
- 6:12Speaker 6: connections that you have. So you know, I don't want
- 6:15Speaker 6: to dissuade people from actually handing us non imperishable food. Sure,
- 6:20Speaker 6: we would love to have that, but at the end
- 6:22Speaker 6: of the day, green is always the right color, it's
- 6:25Speaker 6: always the right size, and it can go the farthest.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't want to discourage any type of giving
- 6:30Speaker 5: and situations like this, and I know you don't either. However,
- 6:32Speaker 5: it is a little bit easier for us because we
- 6:34Speaker 5: basically places like Clay County, we set up a pantry
- 6:38Speaker 5: for these kids, and it's real easy for us to
- 6:42Speaker 5: send a team to purchase skids and skids of particular
- 6:47Speaker 5: kits that we already make up to make sure these
- 6:49Speaker 5: kids are getting protein, make sure these getting the kids
- 6:51Speaker 5: are getting the right nutrition that they need, and we
- 6:54Speaker 5: just hammer those those food pantries and to make sure
- 6:59Speaker 5: these kids get the food. So it's a little bit
- 7:01Speaker 5: easier that way. But hey, we're not turning down anything
- 7:04Speaker 5: or any opportunity to collect food for these kids.
- 7:06Speaker 4: All right, And we do want to give a big
- 7:08Speaker 4: shout out to several of our partners that make it
- 7:11Speaker 4: it possible, not just in donations things that nature, but
- 7:14Speaker 4: they help us along. The folks at Chick fil A
- 7:16Speaker 4: provided us breakfast today. I think the pitch is going
- 7:18Speaker 4: to provide us with lunch this afternoon and also acts
- 7:23Speaker 4: in construction helping out Charleston Dirty Birds sponsoring this. I
- 7:27Speaker 4: do want to mention that they all also sponsor this show,
- 7:30Speaker 4: and they're on the road taking on York through Sunday.
- 7:33Speaker 4: They're back at Gomart Ballpark the next Tuesday night. Get
- 7:36Speaker 4: your tickets for them at dirty Birds baseball dot com.
- 7:38Speaker 4: All right, you all ready for a challenge?
- 7:40Speaker 2: Sure? Throw down? All right?
- 7:42Speaker 4: So sponsor of the text line, he's the local business
- 7:45Speaker 4: owner that I mentioned, Tony the Taylor has said the following,
- 7:50Speaker 4: I will give five hundred dollars and will challenge other
- 7:54Speaker 4: local business owners to match.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Wow.
- 7:57Speaker 4: If we get three or more to match, then I'll
- 8:01Speaker 4: donate another five hundred. Oh my soul, so let me
- 8:05Speaker 4: let me math this real quick, and don't depend on
- 8:07Speaker 4: me to math it.
- 8:09Speaker 6: So Tony's gonna throw in five bills, yeah, has challenged
- 8:13Speaker 6: others to do so. If we get three more, well
- 8:17Speaker 6: that'll take us to two thousand and Tony's gonna throw
- 8:19Speaker 6: in another five that would get us to twenty five.
- 8:22Speaker 6: All right, that's let's turn twenty Let's turn five hundred
- 8:24Speaker 6: into twenty five hundred dollars as quickly as we can.
- 8:27Speaker 2: All right, yeah, I think we can make a business owners.
- 8:29Speaker 4: You have been challenged by the great mister Parrenzino, Tony
- 8:34Speaker 4: the tailor. He is giving five hundred dollars and challenging
- 8:39Speaker 4: other local owners to match. We get three or more
- 8:42Speaker 4: to match, he will donate another five hundred, for a
- 8:45Speaker 4: total of one thousand from him. Let's let's let's not
- 8:49Speaker 4: leave Tony's money on the table. All right, let's do
- 8:51Speaker 4: you know, Let's take the gun. Leave the gun, take
- 8:54Speaker 4: the canoni, take them both all at this point there
- 8:56Speaker 4: you go. All right, So, our business owners out there,
- 9:00Speaker 4: you have been challenged by Tony, and trust me, you
- 9:02Speaker 4: don't want to anger.
- 9:05Speaker 6: I'm just saying you do not want to be on
- 9:08Speaker 6: the wrong side of Tony the tape, thank you very much.
- 9:12Speaker 6: So yes, come through with you know, talkies and individual
- 9:16Speaker 6: servings of you know, peanut butter to go cups and
- 9:19Speaker 6: goldfish crackers, pop tarts, beef jerky, all of those things,
- 9:23Speaker 6: all of those non perishable food items, even shelf stable
- 9:26Speaker 6: things like prepackaged doughnuts and cookies and muffins that yes,
- 9:31Speaker 6: may have a use by date, but we're going to
- 9:33Speaker 6: turn them over fast.
- 9:34Speaker 5: And here's a crazy idea. Sorry to interrupt you there, Rob,
- 9:37Speaker 5: here's a crazy idea that we found that goes into
- 9:39Speaker 5: our kids at our warehouse where these kids Ramen noodles
- 9:43Speaker 5: has more protein in it than a can of chicken soup?
- 9:46Speaker 5: Does that blow your mind? Because of the ground.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Up and and it's what like nineteen cents of serving
- 9:51Speaker 6: exactly on the exactly if we've got a thing of
- 9:54Speaker 6: ramen out there that somebody picked up at one.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Of the box stores yesterday.
- 9:58Speaker 6: So uh, and that holden money cash and check donation
- 10:02Speaker 6: or you can go straight to Maybe you can't make
- 10:03Speaker 6: it to us today, but you still want to be
- 10:04Speaker 6: a part of Drop your Snacks presented by the Charleston
- 10:07Speaker 6: Dirty Birds. We feed people dot com hit that donate
- 10:10Speaker 6: now and safely and securely with your credit or debit card.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Do you remember what happened the last time we did this,
- 10:15Speaker 4: because we talked about it on the Metro News program too,
- 10:18Speaker 4: which is statewide. You have it into three show and
- 10:20Speaker 4: they talked about it on talk line as well. Those guys,
- 10:22Speaker 4: some guys up in martin was in Eastern Panna, may
- 10:24Speaker 4: not have been in Martinborough.
- 10:26Speaker 2: The apples, Oh yeah, that was correct.
- 10:27Speaker 4: They heard us talking about it now, granted, and I
- 10:30Speaker 4: don't know how many people have driven to Martinsburg.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It's a bit. It's a bit of a haul, yes,
- 10:35Speaker 2: all right.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Uh, they heard us talking about it, and they drove
- 10:40Speaker 4: a truckload of apples down here at times. Talk from
- 10:43Speaker 4: Mrshals and from Martinsburg.
- 10:45Speaker 2: How do you like them apples?
- 10:46Speaker 4: We liked them a lot or somebody did. Yes, yeah,
- 10:49Speaker 4: all right. So we'll be checking in with you guys
- 10:51Speaker 4: throughout today again. Follow all the social medias, all the
- 10:54Speaker 4: stations are out there. This is one of those things
- 10:56Speaker 4: that we do. We do a few year that we're
- 10:57Speaker 4: all involved. I know I was out there with Steven
- 11:00Speaker 4: from the Mountain earlier on the V one hundred crew
- 11:02Speaker 4: the beat. Everybody is out there taking part in it.
- 11:06Speaker 4: We got sales, weasels out on the parking lot, we
- 11:08Speaker 4: got office staff, whoever else we can throw out there.
- 11:11Speaker 4: We'll be out here until six pm this evening. And
- 11:15Speaker 4: it doesn't matter if you go, as Rob says, you
- 11:17Speaker 4: go to your local big box store and you come
- 11:18Speaker 4: in and buy bring us boxes of pop tarts, or
- 11:21Speaker 4: you bring us a pack of two or three.
- 11:23Speaker 2: We'll take it one.
- 11:24Speaker 6: Yeah, there were a couple of bags of chips from
- 11:27Speaker 6: a gentleman, first thing this morning, and we are grateful
- 11:29Speaker 6: to have each and every bit of it. When you
- 11:32Speaker 6: hear us say, and we say it at least once
- 11:34Speaker 6: an hour, Doublie VRC Media cares about our community. We
- 11:37Speaker 6: are proud to live here too. This is why drop
- 11:40Speaker 6: your snacks.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Six.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Hold on, We're not done. Oh, this telethon continues. Tony
- 11:46Speaker 4: the Taylor is telling me that Don Wilson with Capital
- 11:48Speaker 4: Insurance is in excellent Okay, and then Don and I
- 11:52Speaker 4: love Don. Don is actually calling me while I'm on
- 11:55Speaker 4: the air right now. So Don, if you're listening right now,
- 11:57Speaker 4: I cannot answer your phone call to myself because I'm
- 12:00Speaker 4: on the air right now, but I appreciate the effort. Okay,
- 12:03Speaker 4: all right, So again the challenge is Tony the Taylor
- 12:08Speaker 4: is willing to give five hundred dollars and challenge other
- 12:11Speaker 4: local owners to match. If we get three or more
- 12:14Speaker 4: to match. Tony will donate another five hundred. So we
- 12:18Speaker 4: just heard Don Wilson and the folks at Capital Insurance
- 12:22Speaker 4: are in on this. So we got a lot of
- 12:24Speaker 4: great advertisers here. Even if you're not advertising, we don't care.
- 12:26Speaker 4: We're gonna give you a love with the advertiser or not.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Help us out with this. And it's not just open
- 12:31Speaker 4: to commercial businesses and individuals as well. We want you
- 12:34Speaker 4: to help us out with Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 6: I could start throwing around names like Harvey Payton and
- 12:38Speaker 6: ben Selango and Bernie Lane and that wait, is it
- 12:42Speaker 6: weird that I went three lawyers? I was gonna say
- 12:44Speaker 6: that's that says more about me than maybe you've got
- 12:47Speaker 6: every one of them on speed dial. That's the That's
- 12:49Speaker 6: the thing.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Rob.
- 12:50Speaker 4: We're not coming and getting you again tonight, buddy. It's
- 12:52Speaker 4: all right, somebody else's turn. We're on a rotating basis.
- 12:56Speaker 4: It's somebody else's turn. All right, guys, get back out
- 13:00Speaker 4: the park sir. We're going to be here till six
- 13:02Speaker 4: o'clock tonight. Out on the parking not eleven eleven Virginia

- 16:46Speaker 4: located at five sixteen D Street in South Charleston. Will
- 16:49Speaker 4: have good friend Tim Brady from the Charleston CVB coming
- 16:52Speaker 4: up Morgan Tending from the Putnam County Development Authorities here.
- 16:54Speaker 4: We'll get to her momentarily, but I do want to
- 16:57Speaker 4: throw this out here. Tony the Taylor sponsor for a
- 16:59Speaker 4: tax line. We're doing our Dropper Snacks event on our
- 17:01Speaker 4: parking line challenged area businesses. As a business owner, Tony
- 17:05Speaker 4: the Taylor said he would give five hundred dollars and
- 17:08Speaker 4: challenge other local owners to match, and if he got
- 17:10Speaker 4: three or more that he donated another five hundred for
- 17:13Speaker 4: a total of one thousand. Don Wilson Capital Insurance said,
- 17:17Speaker 4: I am in Bernie Lane with Nanny Ellis and Lane
- 17:23Speaker 4: in Ryan tells me he just talked to Harvey Payton
- 17:26Speaker 4: from the Peyton Law Firm in So there we go.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Greatest listeners, greatest advertisers in the world, so keep it coming.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Tony the Taylor has challenged all you business owners to
- 17:38Speaker 4: give five hundred dollars for the drop your Snacks event
- 17:41Speaker 4: that we're.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Doing with Union Mission.
- 17:43Speaker 4: So Tony's gonna have to write that check because in
- 17:46Speaker 4: a matter of about two minutes he got the challenge.
- 17:49Speaker 2: The challenge was.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Accepted by those folks. So we'll talk about that a
- 17:53Speaker 4: little bit more later on. Morgan Titny, executive director of
- 17:57Speaker 4: the Putnam County of Development Authorities, here, Good morning, and
- 17:59Speaker 4: welcome to the show.
- 18:01Speaker 12: Good morning, Dave. What an awesome intro into just West
- 18:06Speaker 12: Virginia culture that you put that out from Tony the
- 18:09Speaker 12: Taylor and you've got it massed in a couple of minutes. Man,
- 18:12Speaker 12: if that doesn't show how appleationing we are, then I
- 18:15Speaker 12: don't know what does well.
- 18:17Speaker 4: And here's the thing about it is that these are
- 18:20Speaker 4: business owners and God bless all of our business owners
- 18:23Speaker 4: and advertisers. We couldn't do what we do without them.
- 18:26Speaker 4: But we also couldn't do what we do without our listeners.
- 18:29Speaker 4: And we don't want our listener I mean appreciate the offering.
- 18:32Speaker 4: It's I mean, we just you know, ripped off a
- 18:34Speaker 4: couple thousand dollars in a matter of about five minutes.
- 18:37Speaker 4: We don't want to think. We don't want any of
- 18:39Speaker 4: our listeners sitting back going well, you know, I can't
- 18:41Speaker 4: afford to get that. We don't care if you bring
- 18:43Speaker 4: us two or three bags of Cheetos, that's fine. It's
- 18:45Speaker 4: all going to go to Union Mission. And Jason and
- 18:48Speaker 4: the folks are willing to take whatever to feed some
- 18:53Speaker 4: kids this summertime. So that's really really good stuff. And
- 18:55Speaker 4: if you want to do cash or check, you can
- 18:57Speaker 4: drop by our parking line here eleven eleven Virginia Street
- 19:01Speaker 4: East in Charleston, or you can go to we feed
- 19:03Speaker 4: People dot com and there's an easy way for.
- 19:06Speaker 2: You to make donations that way as well.
- 19:09Speaker 4: But you're right, Morgan, we got some pretty special people
- 19:12Speaker 4: here in the Canall Valley and all over West Virginia.
- 19:14Speaker 12: One percent, we absolutely do and now all I can
- 19:17Speaker 12: think about is snacks, because.
- 19:18Speaker 4: That's well, sorry, I can't help you. I can't help
- 19:22Speaker 4: you there. All right, I want to start from the top.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Now we've been hearing all about this proposed Google data
- 19:27Speaker 4: center in Buffalo. First of all, tell us about the
- 19:30Speaker 4: overall project and about the involvement of the of the
- 19:35Speaker 4: community and the development authority. So just tell people, because
- 19:38Speaker 4: we hear this all the time Morgan data centers, and
- 19:41Speaker 4: there's different types and so on and so forth.
- 19:43Speaker 2: But give us the overall scope of the project.
- 19:46Speaker 12: Sure. So Google has purchased property in Buffalo, West Virginia,
- 19:50Speaker 12: which is located in Putnam County. It is right on
- 19:52Speaker 12: the Putnam Mason County line. But the entire project in
- 19:55Speaker 12: the land acquired is in Putnam County. They've purchased seven
- 20:00Speaker 12: teen hundred acres for a proposed data center campus. They
- 20:05Speaker 12: have purchased the land primarily from a subsidiary of AEP
- 20:10Speaker 12: Appalachian Power. They are looking at a data center campus
- 20:15Speaker 12: for a few different reasons. Primarily it's location to power.
- 20:20Speaker 12: So this site it's only two miles away from a
- 20:23Speaker 12: seven to sixty five kV line, which is just a
- 20:25Speaker 12: huge amount of Power and originally started their discussions directly
- 20:31Speaker 12: with the power company, and this particular land was even
- 20:35Speaker 12: within the company's portfolio. So we are their first location
- 20:42Speaker 12: that they have actually announced or come forth in the
- 20:45Speaker 12: public at Land acquisition. They typically only announced at groundbreaking,
- 20:51Speaker 12: so we are still about a year away from any
- 20:55Speaker 12: type of construction. They have started the permitting process, and
- 20:59Speaker 12: depending on how permitting process goes will depend on how
- 21:03Speaker 12: many buildings there will be. Now, yesterday we announced that
- 21:07Speaker 12: there is a website that just got launched to help
- 21:10Speaker 12: answer any questions specific to this site and on that.
- 21:16Speaker 12: They have been very transparent and put a conceptual site
- 21:20Speaker 12: plan for this data center campus now that is subject
- 21:25Speaker 12: to change depends on their permits. So again we're kind
- 21:30Speaker 12: of in unchartered waters with them, excuse me announcing at
- 21:34Speaker 12: Land acquisition, but very large and we've been told a
- 21:39Speaker 12: thousand construction jobs and up to three to four hundred
- 21:43Speaker 12: full time on site jobs.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Because that's one of the things, Morgan, that we hear
- 21:49Speaker 4: a lot as people will say, okay, you know these
- 21:52Speaker 4: are great, they come and again, every data center is different,
- 21:55Speaker 4: just like any every house is different, or every business
- 21:57Speaker 4: is different. You know, there's not one single plan data center.
- 22:00Speaker 2: But one of the things that we.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Hear is well, once they get it built, this thing
- 22:04Speaker 4: may only have you know, two or three employees.
- 22:07Speaker 13: And that may be.
- 22:08Speaker 4: That may be the case with many of them, but
- 22:10Speaker 4: from what I have read, doesn't appear like it's going
- 22:12Speaker 4: to be the case with this one in Buffalo.
- 22:16Speaker 12: Yes, So that again, you know, the data center industry
- 22:21Speaker 12: in general is just new to the world, not just
- 22:24Speaker 12: less Virginia or I mean, it's there's so much that
- 22:28Speaker 12: we don't understand because it's a new industry. But just
- 22:32Speaker 12: like you mentioned, you know, if we were talking about
- 22:35Speaker 12: Tweeda and like the automotive industry, like Twota is going
- 22:37Speaker 12: to do something different than Ford or somebody else. I mean,
- 22:41Speaker 12: it's just Google is going to be different than other
- 22:44Speaker 12: different companies that have data centers. That's just the matter
- 22:47Speaker 12: of it. Now, if you imagine, you know, a data
- 22:52Speaker 12: center is essentially just a really large computer. That's probably
- 22:57Speaker 12: the best way for me to put it. So when
- 22:59Speaker 12: you think about the technology that's inside, there is so
- 23:03Speaker 12: much maintenance on the technology inside, additionally cooling it and
- 23:10Speaker 12: the power. So there are a lot of jobs that
- 23:12Speaker 12: are going to be related to the skill sets of
- 23:16Speaker 12: mechanical maintenance, HVAC, electrical, also a lot in terms of
- 23:23Speaker 12: landscaping and grounds keeping at the huge site. And then
- 23:26Speaker 12: security is a huge thing too. You can't do all
- 23:30Speaker 12: of that remote, you have to be on site. So
- 23:33Speaker 12: we're really excited to see what this can mean to
- 23:35Speaker 12: our local community. I know there's been concerns on bringing
- 23:39Speaker 12: some outside people in. Look, we need more West Virginians.
- 23:42Speaker 12: We don't have enough people here to fill any of
- 23:44Speaker 12: these jobs. That would mean that we have people just
- 23:46Speaker 12: waiting around unemployed. That's not how it's going to work.
- 23:49Speaker 12: We need more West Virginians to move here. But we're
- 23:52Speaker 12: hopeful that we also are allowing opportunities for West Virginians
- 23:57Speaker 12: to have opportunities. So I think it's kind of going
- 24:00Speaker 12: to be a mixture of both with this size of
- 24:02Speaker 12: a project.
- 24:03Speaker 4: And you know, one of the knocks that people have said,
- 24:05Speaker 4: right or wrong, has been they've they've decried a lack
- 24:09Speaker 4: of transparency with this. With the launch of that website yesterday,
- 24:12Speaker 4: and again, we want to make sure people realize that
- 24:14Speaker 4: this is not the be all, end all.
- 24:16Speaker 2: This is all kind of a.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Best case scenario because it all depends on on the
- 24:20Speaker 4: on on what they are given their permits and so
- 24:23Speaker 4: on and so forth. But I think, I mean, I
- 24:25Speaker 4: think what they launched yesterday morning, it's pretty transparent.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Morgan.
- 24:29Speaker 12: I don't know how you can be more transparent if
- 24:32Speaker 12: I'm being honest. You know, in my mind, this was
- 24:36Speaker 12: a private transaction, right this There was no requirement from
- 24:41Speaker 12: county commission to bless it, to permit it, anything like that.
- 24:46Speaker 12: This was a private transaction from ap to Google. They
- 24:51Speaker 12: didn't they didn't even have to tell us that they
- 24:53Speaker 12: bought it there. There's also no zoning on that side
- 24:59Speaker 12: of Putnam A specific to Buffalo. Now. I know there's
- 25:02Speaker 12: some discussion on House till twenty fourteen with zoning and ordinances,
- 25:06Speaker 12: but if we just take that aside, there's still no
- 25:09Speaker 12: zoning in that area. So there was no requirement for
- 25:11Speaker 12: any type of a rezoning application or anything like that.
- 25:15Speaker 12: So it is still a private transaction that did not
- 25:20Speaker 12: have to announce. Now I feel that. You know, they
- 25:25Speaker 12: acquire the land on a Wednesday, Dave, and the very
- 25:29Speaker 12: next day they had a meetings scheduled all day with
- 25:33Speaker 12: local leaders, legislators, senators, commissioners, mayors, and they said, look,
- 25:40Speaker 12: twelve hours ago, we just bought this property. So again,
- 25:43Speaker 12: I don't know how you can be more forthcoming than
- 25:47Speaker 12: meeting people immediately after just buying the property, let alone
- 25:51Speaker 12: even getting the permits for it. And then another thing
- 25:54Speaker 12: I think too a note of transparency for them is
- 25:58Speaker 12: just putting out the cycling in so you could that
- 26:02Speaker 12: could have been a FOYA document if someone wanted it
- 26:04Speaker 12: from the army crop of engineers. But Google have said here,
- 26:08Speaker 12: this is this is what we're looking at doing. So
- 26:11Speaker 12: to me, that is as about transparent as you can get.
- 26:15Speaker 4: One of the I guess one of the things. Then
- 26:17Speaker 4: we're talking to Morgan Tenni from the PID and County
- 26:18Speaker 4: Development forty. One of the things that we've heard with
- 26:20Speaker 4: data centers is things as far as pollution, go water
- 26:25Speaker 4: and things of that nature. Now, I know that you're
- 26:27Speaker 4: like everybody else, you're learning about these things as you go,
- 26:30Speaker 4: but what for people that are concerned about some of
- 26:34Speaker 4: the things that go along with some data centers?
- 26:36Speaker 12: You would say, what, uh are you asking me what
- 26:40Speaker 12: people have? Cancer?
- 26:42Speaker 14: Yeah?
- 26:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean yeah, because I mean that's one of
- 26:44Speaker 4: the things that we get. People say, well, it's and
- 26:46Speaker 4: some of some of the information that's put out there
- 26:48Speaker 4: is quite frankly incorrect.
- 26:50Speaker 12: Uh.
- 26:50Speaker 2: And some of it is.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Correct, but people will say things like, well, what does
- 26:54Speaker 4: it do to the water, what does it do the environment?
- 26:56Speaker 4: So on, and so I didn't know if you had
- 26:57Speaker 4: gotten into that part of it, or I didn't want
- 26:59Speaker 4: to what you can tell us about that?
- 27:01Speaker 12: Sure, So you know, I've heard some comments about how
- 27:04Speaker 12: it is going to take away grainary, is going to
- 27:10Speaker 12: push out animals that are living on the site. I
- 27:13Speaker 12: don't disagree with those things. Obviously, any type of development
- 27:18Speaker 12: on an empty field is going to change what is habit,
- 27:22Speaker 12: what is living on that field. So I don't disagree
- 27:25Speaker 12: with that. Where I think some people are having concerns
- 27:29Speaker 12: is pollution in terms of water or I haven't really
- 27:33Speaker 12: heard much about air pollution. What's interesting and something I've
- 27:38Speaker 12: learned Dave, is especially with data centers that use a
- 27:42Speaker 12: closed loop system, and that's what Google is investigating, is
- 27:46Speaker 12: a closed loop system. What they do is they intake water,
- 27:50Speaker 12: they actually recycle the water so they will cool the
- 27:53Speaker 12: servers and then they'll keep using that water until it's
- 27:57Speaker 12: basically sediment. And the sediment that remains is so clean.
- 28:01Speaker 12: They actually have to treat it before they put it
- 28:03Speaker 12: back and discharge it because it's almost like having pool
- 28:09Speaker 12: water like it's clean, So they actually treat it and
- 28:13Speaker 12: then they're able to discharge it that way. But Google
- 28:15Speaker 12: has such high environmental standards and sustainability standards that they
- 28:21Speaker 12: again not only are mindful of how much they use,
- 28:25Speaker 12: they try to use it as much as possible in
- 28:29Speaker 12: the terms of recycling to limit the amount that they intake.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Where can people see this particular, because I know it
- 28:36Speaker 2: went out yesterday, this website, How can the average person,
- 28:39Speaker 2: how can they just go and take a look at
- 28:41Speaker 2: where's that available?
- 28:42Speaker 12: It's at Buffalo WV Datacenter dot com.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I mean that's about as transparent as you get.
- 28:49Speaker 12: Right here.
- 28:49Speaker 2: They did specific for this center.
- 28:52Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, So they've done this with other locations
- 28:55Speaker 12: throughout the country. Again, typically they do this at groundbreaking,
- 28:59Speaker 12: but now with Buffalo they've done this with land acquisition.
- 29:03Speaker 12: This is specific to this data center campus. I mean
- 29:06Speaker 12: it's even as you just mentioned, it's even in the
- 29:08Speaker 12: U r L. So this site is going to change
- 29:11Speaker 12: over time. So I would encourage folks that have questions
- 29:14Speaker 12: to just refer back to this web website because right now,
- 29:18Speaker 12: you know, we're in a different phase and will be
- 29:20Speaker 12: in a year and then in three years. So this
- 29:23Speaker 12: is going to adapt depending on the permitting stage and
- 29:27Speaker 12: the construction stage. But really it's going to be the
- 29:30Speaker 12: one place where folks can interact with Google and if
- 29:34Speaker 12: they even have a submission form. So if you have
- 29:36Speaker 12: a question, I encourage you reach out to them. You know,
- 29:40Speaker 12: I'm happy to answer questions however best I can, but honestly,
- 29:44Speaker 12: the best thing to do is submit it to them
- 29:45Speaker 12: and and here straight from the company, what your question
- 29:50Speaker 12: is in regards to the concern.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Of a data center, and give me that website.
- 29:54Speaker 12: Again, Buffalo WV Datacenter dot com.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Can't get much more.
- 30:00Speaker 4: We're easy than that, all right, Morgan Tanny Putnam County
- 30:03Speaker 4: Development thirty.
- 30:03Speaker 2: In the final words to our listeners.
- 30:06Speaker 12: Before you go, I'm just appreciative that we have the
- 30:10Speaker 12: opportunity to work on behalf of our community. Google did
- 30:14Speaker 12: not have to engage the development authority. All of this
- 30:17Speaker 12: could have happened without them engaging us at all. So
- 30:21Speaker 12: I'm really thankful to them, and I hope that the
- 30:23Speaker 12: community recognizes that. At the end of the day. Our
- 30:27Speaker 12: job is to increase the DACT space and create jobs
- 30:30Speaker 12: for West Virginians.

- 33:51Speaker 4: Tim Brady Charlest's CVB coming up here momentarily, but I
- 33:54Speaker 4: first want to go to the man, Tony the Taylor
- 33:57Speaker 4: Parenzena who not only did he make a donation unsolicited,
- 34:02Speaker 4: he just texts me in with this challenge. He just
- 34:04Speaker 4: shows up with a check, you know, and hands me
- 34:07Speaker 4: a check for the snack drop we're doing. Man, that's
- 34:10Speaker 4: pretty good stuff. Feeding kids is important, it really is.
- 34:16Speaker 4: I don't care about adults thinking at their own food
- 34:18Speaker 4: kids that we had to feed them. I mean, that's
- 34:21Speaker 4: their future.
- 34:22Speaker 2: And what we're doing here.
- 34:23Speaker 4: And just in case you're new to this, what's going
- 34:25Speaker 4: on here is we started doing this scene a couple
- 34:27Speaker 4: of years ago. Drop your snacks because so many kids
- 34:30Speaker 4: when school in the school final school bell rings, they
- 34:33Speaker 4: are food insecure, as they call, They don't know where
- 34:35Speaker 4: the next meal is going to come from. So we
- 34:37Speaker 4: reached out to Jason Folks at Union Mission. Big shout
- 34:39Speaker 4: out to Charleston Dirty Birds and Acts the construction also
- 34:43Speaker 4: for helping out Chick fil A.
- 34:44Speaker 2: The pitch also helped us out as well.
- 34:47Speaker 4: And Tony when we're collecting snacks on our parking lot
- 34:51Speaker 4: eleven leven, Virginia Treaties and Charleston, Tony the Taylor sponsor
- 34:54Speaker 4: the text line sends me a text and says basically
- 34:57Speaker 4: that you are willing to the challenge. Was that what
- 35:02Speaker 4: you were going to do was if you get you'd
- 35:04Speaker 4: give five hundred dollars and challenge other local business owners
- 35:08Speaker 4: here in the valley to match it. And if you
- 35:11Speaker 4: got three or more, you'll donate five hundred dollars for
- 35:14Speaker 4: you a total of one thousand. We name dropped a
- 35:18Speaker 4: couple of people on the air. Rob Real did that,
- 35:20Speaker 4: and those people came up. Harvey Payton, also Don Wilson,
- 35:23Speaker 4: Capitol Insurance.
- 35:24Speaker 13: I called Don Wilson first, he stepped right up. Uh,
- 35:28Speaker 13: I think he has a show on tomorrow. Okay, maybe
- 35:30Speaker 13: hit him up for another five minutes. And Bernie Lane,
- 35:34Speaker 13: my brother, called him up immediately. I just tid about
- 35:37Speaker 13: need five hundred dollar. He don't even know what it's for, right,
- 35:39Speaker 13: and he's good. And then of course Harvey, I love Harvey,
- 35:41Speaker 13: and Harvey was right in and then that doesn't mean
- 35:44Speaker 13: you all have to stop giving no no. Maybe maybe
- 35:46Speaker 13: another business can step up and challenge other businesses and
- 35:49Speaker 13: just keep this rolling all day long.
- 35:50Speaker 4: And you don't have to be a business to do this.
- 35:53Speaker 4: You can be anybody. And you don't have to give
- 35:54Speaker 4: Tony the Tailor money either. I mean, we appreciate anything.
- 35:57Speaker 4: Give five dollars, five dollars, you know whatever, whatever star.
- 36:00Speaker 13: Starbucks did a K cup and take that extra money
- 36:03Speaker 13: and drive it by and feed some children.
- 36:05Speaker 4: All Tony to Taylor, I appreciate you, man. Thanks like
- 36:08Speaker 4: you come and get this check. I don't want to
- 36:10Speaker 4: drop it. He may bounce.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Uh now if become kid, chase it down the hall.
- 36:15Speaker 4: If you would just take that out to the guys
- 36:16Speaker 4: out front, make sure we get a photo, and if
- 36:19Speaker 4: you could put some pants on.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I'm running there. I'm not working. Okay.
- 36:22Speaker 13: It's my granddaughter's seventh birthday. Shout out to Addison.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Happy birthday. Adis said, all right, just take that check
- 36:27Speaker 2: right out there.
- 36:27Speaker 15: Man.
- 36:28Speaker 4: I appreciate you, Dan, thanks a lot, Tony the Tailor, Tony.
- 36:30Speaker 4: All right, Tim Brady is here. How do you follow
- 36:32Speaker 4: that up?
- 36:33Speaker 2: Brady?
- 36:34Speaker 17: You can't. I mean, I walked into the studio and
- 36:36Speaker 17: there's a legend sitting here, and it's like, how do
- 36:39Speaker 17: you follow a legend? You can't. You just do the
- 36:41Speaker 17: best you can. But I bet you listen.
- 36:43Speaker 7: Uh.
- 36:44Speaker 17: Tony is a guy I've known for a long time
- 36:47Speaker 17: since I moved to Charleston, and just a guy who
- 36:51Speaker 17: cares about his community. And does not surprise me that
- 36:54Speaker 17: he came through with that challenge today because Tony is
- 36:58Speaker 17: a guy that cares very much about the community here
- 37:01Speaker 17: in Charleston, the people of Charleston and kids in Charleston.
- 37:04Speaker 17: So not surprising.
- 37:05Speaker 18: You know.
- 37:05Speaker 2: We could sit here and make jokes all day.
- 37:07Speaker 17: You and I do that a lot, but sometimes it's
- 37:09Speaker 17: good to be serious and there is a serious need
- 37:11Speaker 17: in our community. And to see a guy like Tony
- 37:14Speaker 17: step up, that's great. And I have a ton of
- 37:16Speaker 17: respect for that and for all the guys that he
- 37:19Speaker 17: named check that got involved. And I heard you say
- 37:22Speaker 17: that Don Wilson is coming in later this week. The
- 37:24Speaker 17: great thing about when Dawn comes in, you don't need
- 37:26Speaker 17: all these chairs. He can just stand here and the
- 37:29Speaker 17: countertop is like just the perfect type for him.
- 37:32Speaker 2: That's harsh, Brady, that's harsh. Man.
- 37:35Speaker 4: All right, So the bikes are coming back to Charleston,
- 37:37Speaker 4: USA Pro Road National Championships, our capital city. With all
- 37:40Speaker 4: the bikes, they are volunteers needed, So first of all,
- 37:44Speaker 4: give us the dates, the exact date so everybody knows
- 37:47Speaker 4: what this.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Is going on.
- 37:47Speaker 17: Yep, So USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships June sixteenth
- 37:51Speaker 17: to the twenty first, so we're a little less than
- 37:53Speaker 17: two weeks out from that event. Tuesday the sixteenth will
- 37:57Speaker 17: be TOM Trials on Knaw Boulevard. Wednesday evening and Thursday
- 38:01Speaker 17: evening the seventeenth and eighteenth will be the Criterion Races
- 38:05Speaker 17: in downtown Charleston. Make sure you check out the V
- 38:08Speaker 17: one hundred crash zone on the corner of the block
- 38:12Speaker 17: Party on the corner of Courier and Hail Streets, just
- 38:16Speaker 17: down the block from Ursus Brewery. And then Friday is
- 38:21Speaker 17: Junior Road races. Saturday and Sunday are U twenty three
- 38:26Speaker 17: and Elite Road races in the City of Charleston. So
- 38:29Speaker 17: we've got a full schedule.
- 38:31Speaker 2: And you need volunteers to pull this off.
- 38:33Speaker 15: We do.
- 38:33Speaker 17: This event is a real volunteer driven production. Volunteers serve
- 38:42Speaker 17: as course marshals, and I know that might sound intimidating,
- 38:45Speaker 17: but it's really not.
- 38:46Speaker 15: It means standing.
- 38:48Speaker 17: At critical spots, intersections, crosswalks throughout the race course and
- 38:56Speaker 17: making sure that the race is safe for both spectators
- 38:59Speaker 17: and and riders. Basically, you're there to blow a whistle
- 39:02Speaker 17: when the bikes are coming through and make sure that
- 39:04Speaker 17: people don't walk out when you know that the race
- 39:07Speaker 17: is approaching. So it's actually really easy, but it's really
- 39:11Speaker 17: really important. How many volunteers do you need to pull
- 39:14Speaker 17: it off? I mean, ideally would you like to have
- 39:17Speaker 17: I would like to have somewhere in the neighborhood of
- 39:19Speaker 17: four hundred to five hundred volunteers, and we're currently somewhere
- 39:24Speaker 17: right around the three hundred and twenty mark. So we're
- 39:27Speaker 17: getting there. We're getting there, but we can always use more,
- 39:30Speaker 17: and we listen for the volunteers that've already signed up,
- 39:33Speaker 17: and a lot of them have signed up for multiple shifts.
- 39:36Speaker 17: I can't say enough of how grateful we are for
- 39:39Speaker 17: folks giving their time to this event, but we also
- 39:43Speaker 17: try to make sure we take care of our volunteers.
- 39:46Speaker 17: Every volunteer gets a T shirt, they get a backpack
- 39:48Speaker 17: of swag, and they get fed at Black Sheep Burrito
- 39:52Speaker 17: and our volunteer headquarters sponsored by West Virginia American.
- 39:55Speaker 4: Water and our producer, Our Metro News mid Day producer,
- 39:59Speaker 4: Stephanie Poly is one of those volunteers and she signed
- 40:01Speaker 4: up where she's moved here when we started Midday and
- 40:04Speaker 4: she absolutely just loved it.
- 40:06Speaker 2: She said, I signed up again. She had it. She
- 40:07Speaker 2: had a great, great time.
- 40:08Speaker 17: And that's actually the feedback we get from most of
- 40:10Speaker 17: our volunteers. They really enjoy it. They meet other people
- 40:13Speaker 17: who are out volunteering on the course as well. They
- 40:15Speaker 17: meet people that are that are here either local or
- 40:17Speaker 17: from out of town to watch the race, and there's
- 40:20Speaker 17: a real sense of community. So the volunteers do have
- 40:22Speaker 17: a good time. So we we have a lot of
- 40:24Speaker 17: repeat volunteers, but we you know, certainly still could use
- 40:27Speaker 17: some more.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Let's talk about the economic impact of this thing.
- 40:30Speaker 17: Yeah, last year we estimated that economic impact at six
- 40:32Speaker 17: point nine million dollars. We had an estimated twenty thousand
- 40:37Speaker 17: spectators across the six days of the race last year.
- 40:41Speaker 17: Moving into June, I think that's going to grow because
- 40:45Speaker 17: now we are in a time of the year when
- 40:47Speaker 17: we'll get more junior riders because school is out ap
- 40:51Speaker 17: exams are over all, the graduations are over. Last year
- 40:54Speaker 17: being Memorial Day weekend, that kind of hampered our junior participation.
- 40:58Speaker 17: So I think the economic impact is certainly. We hope
- 41:01Speaker 17: to see it grow because I think we'll have more riders.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Jim Brady from the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau with
- 41:06Speaker 4: us this morning Dave Island showing Fine Vitiline broad to
- 41:08Speaker 4: you a part by Morgan and Morgan with more than
- 41:10Speaker 4: twenty billion dollars recovered. They believe that when you're injured,
- 41:13Speaker 4: you deserve more. Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury law firm.
- 41:16Speaker 4: And there will be some disruptions from time to time
- 41:19Speaker 4: and traffic. How do people because here's what we've learned
- 41:23Speaker 4: with events like this and others. As people will say,
- 41:26Speaker 4: well I didn't know about this and so on. So
- 41:28Speaker 4: you guys do a great job of putting the info
- 41:30Speaker 4: out there. I don't even live in Charleston and I'm
- 41:32Speaker 4: able to follow theF I'm just impacted when I drive
- 41:34Speaker 4: to work. Where's the best place for people to get
- 41:38Speaker 4: that info? How are you letting people know how it's
- 41:40Speaker 4: going to impact them.
- 41:42Speaker 17: So the things that I would say are Number One,
- 41:45Speaker 17: you can find full race information at CHARLESTONWV dot com.
- 41:49Speaker 17: Links on that page to all of our social media.
- 41:52Speaker 17: The Charleston CVB Facebook page will be robust with traffic
- 41:56Speaker 17: and parking information. Also, the City of Charleston does a
- 41:59Speaker 17: great job. Tina Stinson and her folks over there and
- 42:03Speaker 17: the Mayor's Communications office do a great job of getting
- 42:05Speaker 17: weekly emails out with traffic disruptions, road closures, things like that. Listen,
- 42:10Speaker 17: I can't hide from the fact that this is disruptive
- 42:14Speaker 17: to day to day life in Charleston. But what you've
- 42:16Speaker 17: heard me say to you over the last two years,
- 42:18Speaker 17: and what I'll repeat again, Dave, is the city is
- 42:21Speaker 17: not shut down. You can get anywhere you need to
- 42:24Speaker 17: go in the City of Charleston beyond if you give
- 42:25Speaker 17: yourself a few extra minutes, if you give yourself fifteen
- 42:28Speaker 17: to twenty extra minutes, you can get literally anywhere you
- 42:31Speaker 17: need to go within the city. So, yes, I acknowledge
- 42:34Speaker 17: it is disruptive, but we've got a whole lot of
- 42:37Speaker 17: people from CPD, Sheriff's Department, State Troopers, Capitol Police. This
- 42:43Speaker 17: is a joint effort with traffic control, rolling road closures.
- 42:47Speaker 17: These guys do a great job of making sure that
- 42:49Speaker 17: our city is safe for the riders but also accessible
- 42:54Speaker 17: and navigable for the residents and folks that are in
- 42:58Speaker 17: Charleston to live in work.
- 43:00Speaker 2: All right, give us all the dates because I'll have
- 43:01Speaker 2: you back on. Yeah, we get closer, but we can
- 43:03Speaker 2: give us the dates again.
- 43:04Speaker 15: I will.
- 43:05Speaker 17: But before I say that, I do have to say
- 43:07Speaker 17: this is not possible without the full support of Mayor
- 43:09Speaker 17: Goodwin in the City of Charleston. They are, without a doubt,
- 43:13Speaker 17: our number one supporter and sponsor in this endeavor. But
- 43:17Speaker 17: I also want to make sure that I think are
- 43:19Speaker 17: presenting sponsor Spilman Thomas in Battle. They have been very
- 43:24Speaker 17: generous with their support of this race, so make sure
- 43:28Speaker 17: I want to make sure I thank them. But the
- 43:30Speaker 17: race dates are June sixteenth, the twenty first time Trials
- 43:33Speaker 17: on the sixteenth Criterions, the seventeenth and eighteenth, and then
- 43:37Speaker 17: the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty first road races throughout the
- 43:40Speaker 17: city of Charleston. Going to be six great days of
- 43:43Speaker 17: cycling action in the City of Charleston.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Jim Brady, Charleston convention and visitors Will Beer. I appreciate
- 43:48Speaker 4: you being here man. Thanks, Thanks Dave, good luck with everything.

- 46:35Speaker 4: Week though about the Backpack Buddies program. Our good friend
- 46:39Speaker 4: of the program, Doug Irwin, gave me a Texas Morning
- 46:43Speaker 4: wanted me to remind you about their packing day. So
- 46:45Speaker 4: if you want to help them pack, oh, I don't know,
- 46:47Speaker 4: a couple of tons of food into backpacks for kids
- 46:50Speaker 4: in Putnam County. They're going to be doing that starting
- 46:53Speaker 4: at ten Saturday morning at tays Valley Nazarene Church, thirty
- 46:57Speaker 4: nine thirty seven tays Valley Road, and they they could
- 47:00Speaker 4: use some help and getting all those backpack stuff. They
- 47:02Speaker 4: guarant Doug tells me guaranteed you get there at ten,
- 47:05Speaker 4: you're on the road by noon, so it didn't take
- 47:07Speaker 4: up your whole Saturday for ballgames or whatever it else
- 47:10Speaker 4: is that you're gonna be doing this Saturday.
- 47:11Speaker 2: So help them out if you can't.
- 47:13Speaker 4: It is a well oiled machine to watch them pack
- 47:16Speaker 4: these backpacks. So again, if you want to help out,
- 47:19Speaker 4: and they're doing it this week in Putnam County, There'll
- 47:22Speaker 4: be another one next week for Boone County. I'll talk
- 47:23Speaker 4: about that next week. But what you need to do
- 47:26Speaker 4: is just show up at the Tayes Valley Nazarene Church,
- 47:28Speaker 4: thirty nine thirty seven Tayes Valley Road this Saturday at
- 47:31Speaker 4: ten o'clock can.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Help them stuff those backpacks. One of them just.
- 47:37Speaker 4: Kind of I don't know if I'll close the show it,
