- 0:00Speaker 1: On to Athens, where Georgia welcomes in an Oklahoma team
- 0:04Speaker 1: that could not be more different offensively and defensively. Just
- 0:08Speaker 1: one of the best defenses you'll find, one of the
- 0:10Speaker 1: worst offenses you'll find right now as far as their
- 0:12Speaker 1: current level of play. This is presented by PrizePix. You
- 0:16Speaker 1: cover Georgia very closely and do a great job with them.
- 0:19Speaker 1: But on the Oklahoma side, I don't know that there's
- 0:24Speaker 1: many teams you would want to go play when your
- 0:25Speaker 1: offense is struggling defensively. in this sec, but I certainly
- 0:29Speaker 1: know that Kirby smarts defense wouldn't be one of them.
- 0:31Speaker 1: And so that, that feels like a complete buzzsaw to
- 0:35Speaker 1: me if Georgia can take care of business, but what
- 0:38Speaker 1: are your thoughts or are there any, is there any
- 0:40Speaker 1: hope for Oklahoma this weekend?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Oh, there's hope for sure. Yeah.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I mean that, look, I think that Brent Venables is
- 0:48Speaker 3: a good coach. Uh, I think that we saw Oklahoma
- 0:51Speaker 3: in a spot last year at one point where their,
- 0:53Speaker 3: their back was kind of.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Against the wall. and they closed the season very strong.
- 1:00Speaker 2: They came back.
- 1:01Speaker 3: They beat Alabama on the road when a lot of
- 1:03Speaker 3: people sort of had some of these similar labels around
- 1:07Speaker 3: their offense and feeling like, oh, Mateer sucks and they
- 1:11Speaker 3: can't do anything but hope to hit explosive plays with
- 1:14Speaker 3: Isaiah Cetania. That feels kind of like what people are
- 1:17Speaker 3: saying this week as well, and we saw them turn
- 1:21Speaker 3: that around by in part having some some big plays
- 1:26Speaker 3: defensively and, and turning, you know, turning Alabama over. So
- 1:29Speaker 3: I think when you've got a defense as good as
- 1:31Speaker 3: Oklahoma's defense, you always have a chance because it's a
- 1:35Speaker 3: high floor that can keep you in a game. And
- 1:38Speaker 3: it's never too late to figure something out offensively. The,
- 1:42Speaker 3: the mature quote about like using the crowd to realize
- 1:47Speaker 3: the guy was open.
- 1:48Speaker 2: That would scare me a lot.
- 1:49Speaker 3: If I'm an Oklahoma fan, like that's a, that's a
- 1:51Speaker 3: pretty wild, admission.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I'm not saying those things don't happen.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I just was kind of stunned that we got that
- 1:57Speaker 3: into the public domain.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Certain things happen. Certain things are just supposed to be unsaid.
- 2:06Speaker 1: That's the point. Don't say that. When you look at
- 2:11Speaker 1: this game, Georgia against Arkansas, we didn't do an Arkansas
- 2:15Speaker 1: preview because the spread was so big and obviously we'll
- 2:18Speaker 1: save Georgia for Some of their bigger matchups like this
- 2:20Speaker 1: one and others that will happen this year, the Florida
- 2:22Speaker 1: game and the Bama game. But Georgia offensively against a
- 2:27Speaker 1: really good Oklahoma defense. An Oklahoma defense that knows they
- 2:30Speaker 1: need to go basically do what they did against Michigan
- 2:31Speaker 1: and not have that big turnover at the end. They
- 2:33Speaker 1: need to hold them down. Now, they're playing an offense
- 2:36Speaker 1: that's much better than Michigan's offense was. But, I mean,
- 2:39Speaker 1: Oklahoma knows what they need to do to go out
- 2:40Speaker 1: and compete in this game. They understand they're a two-touchdown
- 2:43Speaker 1: dog in this thing. Georgia's plan of attack against an
- 2:46Speaker 1: Oklahoma defense that, though losing David Stone this week, which
- 2:49Speaker 1: absolutely sucks, still a really good front and a really
- 2:54Speaker 1: good defense for Brett Venables. Are you thinking that Georgia
- 2:59Speaker 1: plays this, not conservatively, but almost like, man, Oklahoma's not
- 3:03Speaker 1: going to take a lot of risks and make Oklahoma
- 3:05Speaker 1: prove that they can win? convert before we really go
- 3:09Speaker 1: crazy with this? Do you think, conservatively is the wrong word,
- 3:14Speaker 1: but is it kind of a, hey, we're not going
- 3:15Speaker 1: to make the mistakes that let them stick around when
- 3:18Speaker 1: they'll probably just do it themselves?
- 3:21Speaker 2: I am very curious what the approach is.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I don't think we've seen Georgia really open the playbook
- 3:27Speaker 3: yet offensively.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I mean, they went and just sat on the ball
- 3:31Speaker 2: at Arkansas. They ran the ball.
- 3:34Speaker 3: On 23 of their first 29 snaps, which got them
- 3:37Speaker 3: to halftime up 21 to three. And then they came out,
- 3:42Speaker 3: went on like a six minute drive, turned Arkansas over
- 3:46Speaker 3: three plays later, scored a touchdown three and outed them
- 3:50Speaker 3: and then hit a 61 yard bomb to make it
- 3:53Speaker 3: 38 to three and send everybody to the bench with
- 3:55Speaker 3: like 12 and a half minutes to go. So I,
- 3:59Speaker 3: I think that this Georgia offense, the way that it
- 4:03Speaker 3: is being talked about nationally is kind of picking up
- 4:08Speaker 3: the baton from last year where there's sort of this
- 4:11Speaker 3: assumption that they're maybe not that explosive and Gunnar Stockton
- 4:17Speaker 3: is mid or whatever people want to say. And I
- 4:21Speaker 3: just think that people will be a little bit surprised
- 4:25Speaker 3: as this season goes on. I do think this is
- 4:28Speaker 3: a much more dynamic offense offense. I think this is
- 4:30Speaker 3: a different version of Gunnar Stockton than what we've seen
- 4:32Speaker 3: so far in his career. I think he has evolved
- 4:36Speaker 3: as a passer just in terms of he is not
- 4:39Speaker 3: looking to run the football on passing downs anymore.
- 4:44Speaker 2: He can still do it if he needs to. He
- 4:45Speaker 2: had a 60-yard rush.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Last week on a design run, but he is much
- 4:52Speaker 3: more disciplined in terms of keeping his eyes downfield and
- 4:55Speaker 3: trying to create explosives when things start breaking down, and
- 4:58Speaker 3: it's like To me, that version of Gunnar Stockton is
- 5:01Speaker 3: one that Georgia could go very, very far with when
- 5:05Speaker 3: you look at what they've got on defense. So I
- 5:08Speaker 3: think this Georgia offense, it's tough to answer your question directly.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I'm not sure that running the ball into the teeth
- 5:20Speaker 3: of a really good Oklahoma front over and over is
- 5:23Speaker 3: a ton.
- 5:24Speaker 2: More safe than.
- 5:29Speaker 3: I don't think you want to let Oklahoma hang around
- 5:31Speaker 3: with Isaiah Cetania on the other side. I just think
- 5:34Speaker 3: that he's a guy who can go 70 if you
- 5:38Speaker 3: make a leverage mistake, which Georgia's made a couple of
- 5:40Speaker 3: this year, to be frank, at the safety position. And
- 5:44Speaker 3: I'm just not sure that that's how you want to
- 5:47Speaker 3: play this. And that will be very fascinating to watch
- 5:52Speaker 3: because I think that sometimes there is a tendency, for
- 5:57Speaker 3: lack of a better term, with Kirby– to like feel
- 6:00Speaker 3: good about his defense in a game and really.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Want to try and protect that defense. And that, that
- 6:05Speaker 2: would not be smart.
- 6:06Speaker 3: In my opinion, his rhetoric has been different throughout this
- 6:10Speaker 3: off season and really throughout the early season. Like last week,
- 6:14Speaker 3: post game, he was asked, was your team as physical
- 6:17Speaker 3: as you want them to be? And he was like, yeah,
- 6:18Speaker 3: at times, but that's not the only thing, right? Like
- 6:22Speaker 3: I've seen teams that are really explosive that aren't physical
- 6:25Speaker 3: at all. And it's just, he's thinking in those terms,
- 6:29Speaker 3: More than I've ever seen him. Like this might be
- 6:33Speaker 3: sort of his Saban Kiffin moment. If that makes sense,
- 6:37Speaker 3: where we're seeing him say, okay, like I've got, yes.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Like I want to be able to run the ball
- 6:44Speaker 3: and I want to be able to do a lot
- 6:45Speaker 3: of things that Georgia's offense was able to do well
- 6:47Speaker 3: last year.
- 6:48Speaker 2: But at the end of the day.
- 6:50Speaker 3: I got to be able to have some, some easy
- 6:52Speaker 3: points and some easy yards that flip things. And I
- 6:56Speaker 3: think they'll look for explosive plays early. I think they'll
- 6:58Speaker 3: try and take, advantage of an aggressive defense being aggressive
- 7:04Speaker 3: and try to find a way to kind of hit
- 7:06Speaker 3: that and get some things going.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I'll get right back to chatting with Graham, but first
- 7:11Speaker 1: I want to tell you about our friends over at PrizePix.
- 7:12Speaker 1: All new users who play a $ 5 lineup there and
- 7:15Speaker 1: win get $ 150 in lineups instantly if they use code HMA.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I am taking the more on Jaden Ball's rushing touchdowns
- 7:23Speaker 1: and I'm taking the more on Trinidad Chambliss' passing touchdowns.
- 7:26Speaker 1: They're both 1.5 I feel really good about Trinidad. I
- 7:29Speaker 1: know it'll be work for Jaden to get two on
- 7:31Speaker 1: the ground, but I think he gets it done. Go
- 7:33Speaker 1: set a lineup just like that. Appreciate our friends over
- 7:35Speaker 1: at PrizePix. Again, use the code HMA. Now back to
- 7:38Speaker 1: the clip. Georgia defensively up against Oklahoma, an offense that
- 7:44Speaker 1: has not shown a lot this year outside of, I guess,
- 7:46Speaker 1: the UTEP game, which I don't know how much you
- 7:48Speaker 1: read into that or don't read into that because Michigan
- 7:51Speaker 1: also put a crap ton of points up on them
- 7:53Speaker 1: for the first time this year. But Georgia defensively, is it...
- 7:57Speaker 1: Is it truly about, like, you know, just not letting
- 8:02Speaker 1: guys like Satanga beat you? Like, is it a lot
- 8:05Speaker 1: too high? Like, are they trying to get– I mean,
- 8:07Speaker 1: Mateer under pressure hasn't been great. Just thoughts around, like,
- 8:10Speaker 1: the way they'll approach this game from that perspective when
- 8:12Speaker 1: you do know that it's an offense that's very much struggling.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think there's– it certainly is. The
- 8:18Speaker 3: Satanga storyline is a huge one. I think the Georgia
- 8:22Speaker 3: run defense is really salty. It was fourth nationally last year.
- 8:25Speaker 3: They returned– all but a couple guys up front. They
- 8:31Speaker 3: are doing all the things you want to see them
- 8:34Speaker 3: do in terms of defending the run.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Early in the season.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Not just that they are stopping those plays, but just
- 8:40Speaker 3: the way that they play their edges and.
- 8:44Speaker 2: The way that everybody gets to the football.
- 8:46Speaker 3: It would surprise me a lot if Oklahoma came in
- 8:49Speaker 3: and just ripped off six yards per carry or something
- 8:53Speaker 3: like that. I don't see that happening. It becomes a
- 8:57Speaker 3: question of You get Mateer into third and long. Do
- 9:03Speaker 3: you want to play him soft or do you want
- 9:05Speaker 3: to play him aggressively? I haven't seen this Georgia pass
- 9:09Speaker 3: rush really impress me yet in terms of its front four.
- 9:14Speaker 3: I think that their inside linebackers are awesome when they
- 9:17Speaker 3: use them in pressure packages. But those inside linebackers are
- 9:21Speaker 3: also great athletes. And I think that if you look
- 9:25Speaker 3: at Mateer right now, the thing he might be most
- 9:27Speaker 3: comfortable doing is throwing to Rocky Beers. that tight end
- 9:30Speaker 3: of theirs. And they, they probably need to do that
- 9:33Speaker 3: in this game. Cause I just don't know that Satania
- 9:37Speaker 3: is the type of guy who material is going to
- 9:41Speaker 3: hit like nine times or something for third down conversions or,
- 9:45Speaker 3: or just like small chunk plays. Like he's the one
- 9:48Speaker 3: where you got to hit the big wheel and, and
- 9:51Speaker 3: hope that it busts. So I just think that Georgia
- 9:56Speaker 3: needs to, Not be conservative on how they play.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Oklahoma in third down, obviously. But I do think that
- 10:05Speaker 2: it would be a mistake to.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Just assume Mateer is going to not be able to
- 10:11Speaker 3: hit somebody in man-to-man coverage. I think that you're talking
- 10:14Speaker 3: about a quarterback who has expressed very openly that that
- 10:18Speaker 3: he's not seeing the field right now. And I think
- 10:20Speaker 3: that goes back to all the things we were just
- 10:21Speaker 3: talking about with that Tennessee-Texas matchup, right? Where you want
- 10:24Speaker 3: to vary your looks and you want to drop a
- 10:26Speaker 3: defensive line out. You want to find ways to give
- 10:30Speaker 3: him something different post-snap than what he reads pre-snap. And
- 10:33Speaker 3: I think if Georgia does that, they will freeze him
- 10:36Speaker 3: on a lot of his first reads. And that could
- 10:39Speaker 3: help his pass rush. And it also could help him
- 10:41Speaker 3: throw an interception or two. So I think Georgia will
- 10:45Speaker 3: have plenty of scheme in this game. I don't think
- 10:49Speaker 3: they'll go one way or the other, but I do
- 10:54Speaker 3: expect Georgia's linebackers, like if you're wondering what they're doing
- 10:59Speaker 3: on third downs, it'll be fun to watch. Where's Chris Cole?
- 11:02Speaker 3: Is he on the edge or is he lined up
- 11:05Speaker 3: over the tight end in the slot or somewhere like that?
- 11:08Speaker 3: And then where's Justin Williams, who? has been very, very
- 11:13Speaker 3: good for them on blitz packages so far this year.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Should have had two sacks last week against Arkansas on
- 11:18Speaker 3: like six or seven pass rush snaps. So they'll have
- 11:23Speaker 3: different things to show material, but the time that they
- 11:26Speaker 3: use them– like the question for Oklahoma in this game
- 11:28Speaker 3: is can you catch Georgia being a little too aggressive
- 11:31Speaker 3: once or twice and get someone loose in man coverage
- 11:36Speaker 3: for the big play that flips the field and gets
- 11:38Speaker 3: you points? Because I feel like that's– and then hope
- 11:39Speaker 3: your defense– can force a couple turnovers. That, to me,
- 11:42Speaker 3: feels like the game.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Huge number in this one. 14 points. It is in Athens. Again,
- 11:50Speaker 1: a lot of that has to do with how Oklahoma's
- 11:52Speaker 1: offense has looked. A lot of it has to do
- 11:53Speaker 1: with Oklahoma not really impressing last week. I expect Oklahoma
- 11:59Speaker 1: to play better. I just don't know if they can
- 12:01Speaker 1: get enough going offensively. Like, if you told me that
- 12:03Speaker 1: Georgia got to 28, I might feel good about this
- 12:07Speaker 1: spread there. And that's kind of where I'm at now.
- 12:11Speaker 1: If it is more of a rock fight, they're able
- 12:13Speaker 1: to do some things nicely defensively. Like maybe that keeps
- 12:16Speaker 1: them around. I just, I, I need to see it. I, I,
- 12:21Speaker 1: I am having a tough time believing that this game
- 12:23Speaker 1: is ultra, ultra competitive, um, late in the fourth quarter.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And I could see Oklahoma covering, but I need to
- 12:33Speaker 1: see it before I'll say it. So I'll take UGA
- 12:35Speaker 1: minus 14 in this one. Um, if it's a, if
- 12:39Speaker 1: it's a grinded out lower scoring game that Georgia wins 21, 13,
- 12:45Speaker 1: and they don't cover the spread, but it's never really
- 12:46Speaker 1: in doubt. Like I, you know, Kirby will be fine.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Like he wants to win games, but I, I, uh, I,
- 12:53Speaker 1: I like Georgia to cover here and I don't think
- 12:55Speaker 1: that's too Homer ish. And I'm not just trying to
- 12:57Speaker 1: be nice to you. I took an upset. I've taken
- 12:59Speaker 1: both upsets so far. So I guess I'll take one
- 13:01Speaker 1: favorite on this, on the points today.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, I feel like this is a game that,
- 13:09Speaker 3: Georgia has a pretty good shot at controlling.
- 13:10Speaker 2: The David Stone news is huge to me.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:14Speaker 3: But, I mean, the other side of it is, like,
- 13:16Speaker 3: Georgia did have Nate Frazier go out of the game
- 13:18Speaker 3: last Saturday at Arkansas.
- 13:21Speaker 2: He appears to be fine in the big picture.
- 13:25Speaker 3: But he's been playing at a really high level to
- 13:27Speaker 3: start the season, like, running over dudes legitimately.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Like, as physical of a running back as I've seen
- 13:33Speaker 2: in a Georgia uniform in a while.
- 13:37Speaker 3: If that– Injury that he had at Arkansas slows him
- 13:41Speaker 3: like 25%. I do think that changes the calculus a
- 13:45Speaker 3: little bit for Georgia's ability to run the football. I
- 13:48Speaker 3: still think they'll be able to run the football. But
- 13:50Speaker 3: I just kind of feel like that this could be
- 13:54Speaker 3: a game that Georgia controls and wins, but like Oklahoma
- 13:58Speaker 3: backdoors it somehow and covers the spread. The 14 feels
- 14:03Speaker 3: like a lot. I think this is a really good
- 14:05Speaker 3: Georgia team that's going to put like be back in
- 14:08Speaker 3: a level of compete for a national title from– I
- 14:13Speaker 3: know they've made the playoff the last two years, but
- 14:16Speaker 3: I think that this team has a higher ceiling than
- 14:20Speaker 3: any of the ones that we've seen since 2023.
- 14:23Speaker 2: So I'm picking Georgia to win, but I do have
- 14:26Speaker 2: a feeling that Oklahoma is.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Going to rally the troops and that they're going to
- 14:32Speaker 3: come in and that they're going to play well and
- 14:35Speaker 3: that they will– you know, have some new stuff to
- 14:38Speaker 3: show to Georgia in this game. And they will hit
- 14:41Speaker 3: a play or two. And I think this stays close
- 14:44Speaker 3: through the first half. And, you know, I think that
- 14:48Speaker 3: Georgia wins and kind of pulls away and, like, wins
- 14:52Speaker 3: by 10.
- 14:53Speaker 2: But I'm not in
- 14:55Speaker 3: The camp of Georgia's going to go in and blow
- 14:58Speaker 3: Oklahoma out in this one.
