- Jaba: Hello everybody and welcome back to the Scout and the Speculator podcast. For the fourth time today, this is Will Jarvis, also known as Jabba Cards, joined as always, you guessed it, by Jeremy Brown of Perfect Game Baseball. More importantly, known as you fill in the blank here, guys. This is an interactive episode. JGB, underscore cards, underscore. You know it, you love it. And we're just gonna get right into it. We just recorded our DSL hitter price update episode. I know I had said in there, hey, you know, we're kinda reaching a critical mass of data. We've reached equilibrium with a lot of our prices. Starting next week, we're probably just going to switch it from three episodes into one, just so that we're not talking about the same stuff. I think it's still worth tracking, but probably not at the granular level we are now. We got off recording the DSL one, which is obviously the vast majority of the hot names from the release, and we were kind of looking at the list here and we said, okay, I think we're safe to combine that second list of all the non DSL hitters, the guys that are a little older, whether it be former college bats or the Slater de Brun wielder delises of the world that have, you know, put some full season ball under their belt. So we are going to start with those hitters and then we're gonna segue right into the pitchers. Not a lot to talk about with the pitchers. There's a couple things to highlight, but it's it's pretty scarce there. Not a lot of news. Jeremy, I'll let you give your rundown on our hitters here. Jheremy: Let's do our thing real quick where I say every name as fast as I can and then get out of breath. Jaba: See if you can do it without breathing. Jheremy: Feel like the guy from that sings teenage dirtbag when he goes into the really high pitched voice. laundry's done. Alright, so your A-level high A non-DSL guys, right? Andy Azakar, he's down three bucks. Jaden Low Ray, he's he's actually up five bucks, which is nice to see. Slater DeBron, he is down another boy, he's down another three bucks. Wielder. He's up, baby, up about three dollars from the last couple and I have noticed that like through my searches. Not that people asking numbers are like realistic with everything they throw out there, but it seems like you're not seeing as many low numbers being posted. They're all kind of juiced up a little bit. Sebastian Dos Santos is down another seven bucks to about a twenty one dollar average, which is kind of what I said last time we did this that I was seeing was more of that twenty, twenty two dollar range. he's a buy for me there, like Like he I d I don't know why there isn't a shine there, a sheen of like bright new toy. Maybe it's 'cause he's not in the D SL. But like he I I would prefer him. Jaba: Yeah, he's kind of a tweener. Jheremy: Like if he was in our D SL, I feel like you would put him right up there with like north of like Awandia Sejin or Ricky Money's. Honestly. Jaba: Yeah. Yeah, he he'd easily be above any of our call it tier two names. I don't know. Jheremy: Yeah, like he'd be a tier one name of DSL guys, I would feel if he took his performance at A Ball, mind you, as an eighteen year old and did that in the DSL. Like I don't know. I I think Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: he's a buy at that price. Jaba: I agree. Fully agree. Jheremy: And then we got Luis Andor kind of our numbers guys kind of sleeping on him because he was an A ball. But he went from thirty-two to eighteen to fourteen to eleven, down to eight dollars and fifty-three cents. He actually put up pretty good numbers at A ball, if I'm not mistaken. Again, Red Sock, they don't really have that big of a chase now that Andy Azakar is gone. not a bad name to kinda have a couple of, especially for what. You're talking about a wake up rap and a Dunkin' Meal deal here at eight dollars and fifty three cents for his latest, so had to get a little there. Jaba: Yeah, and you you'll you'll see nineteen and I feel like people will see nineteen and think that he's almost twenty. He just turned nineteen after the season ended, so he'll be nineteen all next year. You know, he had played he played sixty-three of his seventy-eight games at single A, and he posted a seven sixty-four OPS, eight homers, fourteen steals. Nothing really stands out like crazy, but he also didn't strike out Jheremy: Divided poor. Jaba: that much. You know, it's just a good line for an eighteen year old at single A. You know, a seven sixty-four OPS. Again, not flashy, but that's not far off from like Kevin Alvarez. again Jheremy: Right. Jaba: Give me Kevin Alvarez. He's the big, lanky, athletic outfielder versus Anduhar. Who I yeah. Kevin Alvarez had a 772 OPS. And yes, Anduhar is he's what, six foot one eighty-five. He's probably physically maxed out. He's a third baseman. Again, we don't love that, but I don't know. I I just think he's a little too cheap. Like you said, the Red Sox don't really have a a chase. They'll have Franklin Primera probably in twenty seven Bowman. But if Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: you want a piece to hold you over for that, I think sub ten dollars, this is a great buy. I mean that's that's lined Jheremy: Yeah. I mean Jaba: up with basically a lot of the older guys. I mean that that's basically Brandon Butterworth pricing. Jheremy: Yeah, that that and just like he spent the bulk of the year in A ball too as an eighteen year old. Like and it wasn't a like you said, it wasn't a huge line, but it's not a bad line. Like we cut down the strikeouts a little bit next year, let him repeat A ball before you get him up to high A, like why not? You see what Antonio Anderson's doing. He's up from like two bucks all the way to five bucks, so just give him some time. Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: that was tongue in cheek. But let's go next. Alex Low Dice with our college guys. College slash non DSL International guys. Alex Lodice, he is down about a dollar and a half. Owen Ayers about what is that a dollar seventy, give or take? Anthony Martinez, Jaba: Close enough. Jheremy: he's up, baby. Almost two dollars. We like that. A Jaba: Tony, Tony. Jheremy: full dollar and a half, sorry. And I know like I think Bob wrote about him as being a buy, and there's your there's your bump. Austin Overn, somebody we've talked about a bunch, he's up three dollars. White Vincent, stagnant, AOA, Avery Ousu Asiadu. He is down to sub four dollars, which breaks my heart. Like, I'm buying, if you can find him at your card show for three dollars and ninety-seven cents, buy two of them. I mean honestly, Jaba: Even five dollars in person? Like Jheremy: like, just buy and stash Like, it's not gonna take much for him to get some headlines, I think, next year. And like we we all definitely pay attention to prospects more once they have Bowman. Like, let's be real. There's names we all know that we store and wait for their Bowman, and then there's guys we have no idea who they are until they get Bowman. Now that they have Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: it, you're like you're very cognizant of like that guy, he's in twenty six chrome. So I think that Jaba: Yeah, I d I I I can admit I didn't know who he was. Jheremy: Alright, and he had he had what was that what's that cardboard brand? not pulse. What's the other one? Jaba: Panini. Jheremy: No the other one. That's like all cardboard. And it's like AI. right here. Onyx. I literally have right here. Onyx. Jaba: Those kind of look cool. Jheremy: Like he has these cards and autos, and I didn't know who he was. So admittedly a they were first on him. Anyway, we're losing we're losing script. Randy Guzman, he's a Met guy. He's up almost two bucks. Alejandro Nunez. he is Up nine cents. Brendan Jones is down about four dollars and Brandon Butterworth, unsurprisingly is up two dollars. I think he hit his floor so so quickly and so cheap, and now he's in the AFL with a little bit more than just having a pulse and being there that people are like, boy, he's like too cheap and you're seeing that bottom floor tier being bought up quickly and Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: now it like just as a result he's risen up a little bit. So I think I Jaba: Playing nicely in the AFL, he hit a grand slam doesn't really change the outlook, Jheremy: Yep. He is one twenty-four though. Jaba: but Jheremy: Right. I think he's twenty-four years old. Like there's a true Jaba: Yeah, he's all. Jheremy: orange that just went up for like a what was it, a buck fifty? True orange auto color match and like that didn't really move the needle for me all that much, even though it doesn't feel like horrendously bad. But Jaba: Yeah, it's kinda on where we think it's worth a shout out. We're not particularly moved, but worth mentioning Jheremy: No. Jaba: and kinda giving him his flowers. Jheremy: Like I I picked up a base auto at a show two weeks ago because I already I was buying a bunch of stuff and got it and threw it in there. Like, good card to just have. Nothing overwhelming, but maybe if I ever run on whatnot again, it's something you can run for three bucks and I can have it die there with one swipe, so and then we got the pitchers. We were gonna do this on their own and that we talked and it's like, you know what? Like hardly anything's moved at all. We can only beat Tallon Haley and Andre Hidalgo to a pulp so much of us loving them. like Tallinn Haley is up a dollar. I we'll I'll pat ourselves on the back, even though I bought one for three dollars. to bring that average down probably a little bit, but no color autos. Jaba: Thanks a lot. Jheremy: I don't know if you guys have heard that or not, but he doesn't have color autos. Jarangelo, his redemptions are are flying right now. I somebody somebody chased him hard because they listed about thirty of them the other day. But the base autos is our autos are down to fifty three dollars. I think if you lined him up in Jarlin Susana as redemption only autos, you're gonna take Susana over Sinche. And I'm not sure that Susana is even more than fifty three right now. had a r last rough go of the AFL. Christian Zazweta, this is the other noteworthy one for us where he was at fifty forty five dollars and now he's down to thirty bucks. still don't know if I want to say a pitcher's a buy at thirty bucks, but I definitely would buy it at thirty bucks. Jaba: I'll say it. Jheremy: But I would definitely say I would buy them at thirty bucks. Like, live your own life and don't let me choose your outcome. But I bought one for thirty one bucks on stream the last week and felt good about it, so Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: like Kai Jaba: Brandon Clark down to eleven. Jheremy: That was the one I wanted to touch on because he's got some he's got some Lucies floating in his elbow right now, so he's not going to the AFL. I think I I don't think you panic sell a $15 card, $20 card, but I think people that went from holding them for the AFL purposes might just be letting them go right now. And with that, flood not flooding the market, but you know what I'm saying, there's more of them available. He's he went from thirty nine to nineteen to twenty to sixteen. Now he's down to eleven sixty two. And he's again, if if he gets a single digit before that decimal point, I'll probably pick up a good a good trying to think of a funny word, but I don't have any. So I'll pick up a few. Jaba: Yeah. Yeah, and I I I think the reason why not only are we not selling him, but we're still saying if he falls a tiny bit more, he's a buy. The investment thesis long term with him is and always will be you need him to have that one viral moment and then you're probably selling Jheremy: What's that? Jaba: everything. As long as he is physically able to throw baseball next year, you will get that moment. It's really just praying that he can Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: get on the mound and do it, because once that Jheremy: Right. Jaba: happens it will go up. It's the same thing we said with Susana, although Susana's a much more serious name. But it's that same thing where you wait for the moment, you get the moment, and then you sell everything. that's not any different now. But Jheremy: And this isn't like an injury concern for him again either. This is like very procedural, like has some stuff floating around there. You just clean it out, good to go. I think he pitch all through the playoffs, didn't miss time, it and it just becomes like he's healthy. Let's keep him healthy. Why go have him throw more? Let's shut him down, make him perfect for next year. Is how I take Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: it in. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe there's more reports, but as of what I know, what you had sent me, that's kind of what I read into that as. Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: Mean more or less everybody else is down except Sean Paul Lennon 'cause he couldn't go down more from a dollar forty six. He doubled in price overnight. Kenan Martinez sub five bucks. Wellington Arasena sub three bucks. Kyle Carr sub five. Hidago at six dollars, like go buy all of Jaba: Yep. Jheremy: So then I I have been. I I'm looking at my back wall right now from the shows that I never run anymore. And there are quite a few of him back there. I think I have another true blue coming in today, honestly. Jaba: Can't stop, won't stop. Jheremy: And I just might become I might just stop playing cards and get into Nido full time. Sorry. Jaba: You heard it, folks. This is becoming a neato podcast. Jheremy: I'm joking also, by the way, everybody. Jaba: I'm not sure he's joking. Jheremy: Well, as as we Jaba: Alright, you got anything else? I'm I'm pretty tapped out there. Jheremy: I I feel like we're beating a dead horse and that's why we're gonna s kind of s stray away from doing these. If you guys have requests or wanna keep hearing by all means we can do But we just did two different subsections of hitters and pitchers in fourteen minutes and feel like we didn't really give you anything all that helpful again with it. I it just kind of is what it is, like. Prices have settled. If you want us to keep saying it just for the sake of numbers and you want to know who's up, who's down, we can absolutely do that. Or kind of like, hey, now's a good time to buy X, Y, or Z. but right now I think a lot of these guys' base autos are at a price where it's like you're not gonna lose even if you buy So Jaba: Mm-hmm. Jheremy: if you feel comfortable spending the money on it, go grab a couple, see what happens with them, play a game. Yeah. Jaba: Yep. Jheremy: That's it. Jaba: Alright. Well, thank you guys for listening. We'll be back tomorrow. We have some great stuff coming. Thank you as always for listening. We love ya and let's go, Matt's. See ya guys.
