- 0:00Speaker 1: Lumen chapter twelve. And thus we can behold how falts,
- 0:05Speaker 1: and also the unsteadiness of the hearts of the children
- 0:07Speaker 1: of men. Yea. We can see that the Lord, in
- 0:10Speaker 1: his great infinite goodness, doth bless and prosper those who
- 0:13Speaker 1: put their trust in him. Yea. And we may see
- 0:17Speaker 1: at the very time when He doth prosper his people yea,
- 0:20Speaker 1: in the increase of their fields, their flocks, and their herds,
- 0:24Speaker 1: and in gold and in silver, and in all manner
- 0:27Speaker 1: of precious things of every kind and art, sparing their
- 0:31Speaker 1: lives and delivering them out of the hands of their enemies,
- 0:34Speaker 1: softening the hearts of their enemies, that they should not
- 0:37Speaker 1: declare wars against them, yea. And in fine doing all
- 0:41Speaker 1: things for the welfare and happiness of his people. Yea.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Then is the time that they do harden their hearts,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and do forget the Lord their God, and do trample
- 0:50Speaker 1: under their feet the Holy One. Yea. And this because
- 0:54Speaker 1: of their ease and their exceedingly great prosperity. And thus
- 0:59Speaker 1: we see that it accept the Lord doth chasten his
- 1:01Speaker 1: people with many afflictions, yea, except he doth visit them
- 1:05Speaker 1: with death and with terror and with famine, and with
- 1:08Speaker 1: all manner of pestilence, they will not remember him. Oh,
- 1:12Speaker 1: how foolish and how vain, and how evil and devilish,
- 1:16Speaker 1: And how quick to do iniquity, and how slow to
- 1:19Speaker 1: do good are the children of men? Yea, How quick
- 1:23Speaker 1: to hearken unto the words of the evil one, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: to set their hearts upon the vain things of the world. Yea,
- 1:30Speaker 1: How quick to be lifted up in pride, yea, how
- 1:33Speaker 1: quick to boast and do all manner of that which
- 1:36Speaker 1: is iniquity. And how slow are they to remember the
- 1:39Speaker 1: Lord their God, and to give ear unto his counsels. Yea,
- 1:43Speaker 1: how slow to walk in wisdom's paths. Behold, they do
- 1:48Speaker 1: not desire that the Lord their God, who hath created them,
- 1:51Speaker 1: should rule and reign over them, notwithstanding his great goodness
- 1:55Speaker 1: and his mercy towards them. They do set it not
- 1:58Speaker 1: his counsels, and they will not that he should be
- 2:01Speaker 1: their guide. Oh, how great is the nothingness of the
- 2:04Speaker 1: children of men. Yea, even they are less than the
- 2:08Speaker 1: dust of the earth. For behold, the dust of the
- 2:11Speaker 1: earth moveth hither and thither to the dividing asunder at
- 2:14Speaker 1: the command of our great and everlasting God. Yea. Behold
- 2:18Speaker 1: at his voice, to the heels and mountains tremble and quake,
- 2:22Speaker 1: and by the power of his voice they are broken
- 2:24Speaker 1: up and become smooth. Yea. Even like unto a valley, yea.
- 2:29Speaker 1: By the power of his voice, do the whole earth shake? Yea.
- 2:32Speaker 1: By the power of his voice, to the foundation's rock,
- 2:35Speaker 1: even to the very center, yea. And if he say
- 2:39Speaker 1: unto the earth, move it is moved. Yea. And if
- 2:42Speaker 1: he say unto the earth, thou shalt go back that
- 2:45Speaker 1: at lengthen out the day for many hours. It is done.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And thus according to his word, the earth goeth back.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And it appeareth unto man that the sun standeth still. Yea.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And behold this is so, for surely it is the
- 2:59Speaker 1: earth that moveth, and not the sun. And behold also,
- 3:03Speaker 1: if he say unto the waters of the great deep,
- 3:06Speaker 1: be thou dried up? It is done. Behold. If he
- 3:11Speaker 1: say unto this mountain, be thou raised up, and come
- 3:14Speaker 1: over and fall upon that city, that it be buried up.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Behold it is done. And behold of a man hide
- 3:21Speaker 1: up a treasure in the earth. And the Lord shall say,
- 3:24Speaker 1: let it be accursed because of the iniquity of him
- 3:26Speaker 1: who hath hit it up. Behold, it shall be accursed.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And if the Lord shall say, be thou a cursed,
- 3:33Speaker 1: that no man shall find thee from this time henceforth
- 3:36Speaker 1: and forever, behold, no man getteth it henceforth and forever,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and behold. If the Lord shall say, unto a man,
- 3:44Speaker 1: because of thine iniquities, thou shalt be accursed, forever it
- 3:49Speaker 1: shall be done. And if the Lord shall say, because
- 3:52Speaker 1: of thine iniquities, thou shalt be cut off from my presence,
- 3:56Speaker 1: he will cause that it shall be so. And warrant
- 3:59Speaker 1: to him to whom he shall say this, for it
- 4:02Speaker 1: shall be unto him that will do iniquity, and he
- 4:05Speaker 1: cannot be saved. Therefore, for this cause that men might
- 4:09Speaker 1: be saved, hath repentance been declared. Therefore, blessed are they
- 4:13Speaker 1: who will repent and hearken unto the voice of the
- 4:16Speaker 1: Lord their God. For these are they that shall be saved.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And may God grant in his gratefulness, that men might
- 4:23Speaker 1: be brought unto repentance and good works, that they might
- 4:27Speaker 1: be restored unto grace for grace according to their works,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and I would that all men might be saved. But
- 4:34Speaker 1: we read that in the great and last day, there
- 4:36Speaker 1: are some who shall be cast out, yea who shall
- 4:39Speaker 1: be cast off from the presence of the Lord, Yea
- 4:42Speaker 1: who shall be consigned to a state of endless misery,
- 4:46Speaker 1: fulfilling the words which say, they that have done good
- 4:50Speaker 1: shall have everlasting life, and they that have done evil
- 4:54Speaker 1: shall have everlasting damnation. And thus it is amen Helimann
- 5:03Speaker 1: chapter thirteen. And now it came to pass in the
- 5:07Speaker 1: eighty and sixth year, the Nephites did still remain in wickedness, yea,
- 5:11Speaker 1: in great wickedness, while the Lamanites did observe strictly to
- 5:15Speaker 1: keep the commandments of God, according to the law of Moses.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And it came to pass that in this year there
- 5:21Speaker 1: was one Samuel Lamanite come into the land of Zarahemla,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and began to preach unto the people. And it came
- 5:28Speaker 1: to pass that he did preach many days repentance unto
- 5:31Speaker 1: the people, and they did cast him out, and he
- 5:34Speaker 1: was about to return to his own land, But behold,
- 5:37Speaker 1: the voice of the Lord came unto him that he
- 5:39Speaker 1: should return again, and prophesy unto the people whatsoever things
- 5:43Speaker 1: should come into his heart. And it came to pass
- 5:46Speaker 1: that they would not suffer that he should enter into
- 5:48Speaker 1: the city. Therefore he went and got upon the wall thereof,
- 5:52Speaker 1: and stretched forth his hand, and cried with a loud voice,
- 5:56Speaker 1: and prophesied unto the people whatsoever things the Lord put
- 5:59Speaker 1: into his head heart, and he said unto them, Behold, I,
- 6:04Speaker 1: Samuel Lamanite, do speak the words of the Lord which
- 6:08Speaker 1: he doth put into my heart. And behold, he hath
- 6:11Speaker 1: put it into my heart to say unto this people,
- 6:14Speaker 1: that the sword of justice hangeth over this people, and
- 6:18Speaker 1: four hundred years pass not away. Save the sword of
- 6:21Speaker 1: justice falleth upon this people. Yea heavy destruction awaiteth this people,
- 6:27Speaker 1: and it surely cometh unto this people. And nothing can
- 6:30Speaker 1: save this people, save it be repentance and faith on
- 6:33Speaker 1: the Lord Jesus Christ, who surely shall come into the
- 6:36Speaker 1: world and shall suffer many things, and shall be slain
- 6:40Speaker 1: by his people. And behold, an angel of the Lord
- 6:43Speaker 1: hath declared it unto me, and he did bring glad
- 6:46Speaker 1: tidings to my soul. And behold, I was sent unto
- 6:50Speaker 1: you to declare it unto you also that ye might
- 6:53Speaker 1: have glad tidings. But behold, ye would not receive me. Therefore,
- 6:58Speaker 1: thus saith the Lord. Because of the hardness of the
- 7:02Speaker 1: hearts of the people of the Nephites. Except they repent,
- 7:06Speaker 1: I will take away my word from them, and I
- 7:09Speaker 1: will withdraw my spirit from them, and I will suffer
- 7:12Speaker 1: them no longer, and I will turn the hearts of
- 7:15Speaker 1: their brethren against them. And four hundred years shall not
- 7:19Speaker 1: pass away before I will cause that they shall be smitten. Yea,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I will visit them with the sword, and with famine
- 7:26Speaker 1: and with pestilence. Yea, I will visit them in my
- 7:30Speaker 1: fierce anger. And there shall be those of the fourth
- 7:33Speaker 1: generation who shall live of your enemies, to behold your
- 7:36Speaker 1: utter destruction. And this shall surely come, except ye repent,
- 7:41Speaker 1: saith the Lord, and those of the fourth generation shall
- 7:45Speaker 1: visit your destruction. But if ye will repent and return
- 7:49Speaker 1: unto the Lord your God, I will turn away mine anger,
- 7:52Speaker 1: saith the Lord. Yea, Thus saith the Lord. Blessed are
- 7:56Speaker 1: they who will repent and turn unto me. But woe
- 8:00Speaker 1: to him that repenteth not yea, woe unto this great
- 8:03Speaker 1: city of Zarahemla. For behold, it is because of those
- 8:06Speaker 1: who are righteous that it is saved. Yea, woe unto
- 8:10Speaker 1: this great city. For I perceive, saith the Lord, that
- 8:14Speaker 1: there are many yea, even the more part of this
- 8:17Speaker 1: great city, that will harden their hearts against me, saith
- 8:20Speaker 1: the Lord. But blessed are they who will repent. For
- 8:24Speaker 1: them will I spare. But behold, if it were not
- 8:27Speaker 1: for the righteous who are in this great city, behold,
- 8:31Speaker 1: I would cause that fire should come down out of
- 8:33Speaker 1: heaven and destroy it. But behold, it is for the
- 8:36Speaker 1: righteous's sake that it is spared. But behold, the time cometh,
- 8:41Speaker 1: saith the Lord, that when YE shall cast out the
- 8:43Speaker 1: righteous from among you, then shall ye be ripe for destruction. Yea,
- 8:48Speaker 1: woe be unto this great city because of the wickedness
- 8:51Speaker 1: and abominations which are in her. Yea, and woe be
- 8:55Speaker 1: unto the city of Gideon, for the wickedness and abominations
- 8:58Speaker 1: which are in her. Ye And woe be unto all
- 9:01Speaker 1: the cities which are in the land round about, which
- 9:04Speaker 1: are possessed by the Nephites. Because of the wickedness and
- 9:06Speaker 1: abominations which are in them, And behold, the curse shall
- 9:11Speaker 1: come upon the land, saith the Lord of Hosts, because
- 9:14Speaker 1: of the people's sake, who are upon the land. Yea,
- 9:17Speaker 1: because of their wickedness and their abominations. And it shall
- 9:22Speaker 1: come to pass, sayeth the Lord of Hosts. Yea, our
- 9:25Speaker 1: great and True God, that whoso shall hide up treasures
- 9:28Speaker 1: in the earth shall find them again no more, because
- 9:32Speaker 1: of the great curse of the land. Save he be
- 9:34Speaker 1: a righteous man, and shall hide it up unto the Lord.
- 9:39Speaker 1: For I will saith the Lord, that they shall hide
- 9:42Speaker 1: up their treasures unto me. And cursed be they who
- 9:45Speaker 1: hide not up their treasures unto me. For none hideth
- 9:48Speaker 1: up their treasures unto me, save it be the righteous.
- 9:51Speaker 1: And he that hideth not up his treasures unto me,
- 9:54Speaker 1: cursed is he, and also the treasure, and none shall
- 9:58Speaker 1: redeem it because of the curse of land. And the
- 10:01Speaker 1: day shall come that they shall hide up their treasures,
- 10:05Speaker 1: because they have set their hearts upon riches, And because
- 10:08Speaker 1: they have set their hearts upon their riches, and will
- 10:11Speaker 1: hide up their treasures when they shall flee before their enemies,
- 10:14Speaker 1: because they will not hide them up unto me, cursed
- 10:17Speaker 1: be they and also their treasures, and in that day
- 10:20Speaker 1: shall they be smitten. Saith the Lord. Behold ye the
- 10:25Speaker 1: people of this great city, and hearken unto my words. Yea,
- 10:28Speaker 1: hearken unto the words which the Lord saith. For Behold,
- 10:32Speaker 1: he saith that ye are cursed because of your riches.
- 10:35Speaker 1: And also are your riches cursed, because ye have set
- 10:38Speaker 1: your hearts upon them, and have not hearkened unto the
- 10:41Speaker 1: words of him who gave them. Unto you, Ye do
- 10:45Speaker 1: not remember the Lord your God in the things with
- 10:47Speaker 1: which he hath blessed you. But ye do always remember
- 10:50Speaker 1: your riches, not to thank the Lord your God for them. Yea,
- 10:54Speaker 1: your hearts are not drawn out unto the Lord, but
- 10:57Speaker 1: they do swell with great pride unto both and unto
- 11:01Speaker 1: great swelling, envyings, strifes, malice, persecutions, and murders, and all
- 11:07Speaker 1: manner of iniquities. For this cause hath the Lord God
- 11:11Speaker 1: cause that a curse should come upon the land, and
- 11:14Speaker 1: also upon your riches. And this because of your iniquities. YEA,
- 11:19Speaker 1: woe unto this people, because of this time which has arrived,
- 11:23Speaker 1: that ye do cast out the prophets and do mock
- 11:26Speaker 1: them and castones at them, and do slay them, and
- 11:29Speaker 1: do all manner of iniquity unto them, even as they
- 11:32Speaker 1: did of old time. And now when ye talk, ye say,
- 11:36Speaker 1: if our days had been in the days of our
- 11:38Speaker 1: fathers of old, we would not have slain the prophets.
- 11:41Speaker 1: We would not have stoned them and cast them out.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Behold year worse than they, For as the Lord liveth.
- 11:48Speaker 1: If a prophet come among you and declareth unto you
- 11:52Speaker 1: the word of the Lord, which testifieth of your sins
- 11:54Speaker 1: and iniquities, ye are angry with him, and cast him out,
- 11:58Speaker 1: and seek all manner of ways to dish destroy him. YEA,
- 12:01Speaker 1: you will say that he is a false prophet, and
- 12:04Speaker 1: that he is a sinner and of the devil, because
- 12:06Speaker 1: he testifieth that your deeds are evil. But behold, if
- 12:10Speaker 1: a man shall come among you and shall say, do this,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and there is no iniquity, do that, and ye shall
- 12:17Speaker 1: not suffer YEA, he will say, walk after the pride
- 12:20Speaker 1: of your own hearts. YEA, walk after the pride of
- 12:23Speaker 1: your eyes, and do whatsoever your heart desireth. And if
- 12:27Speaker 1: a man shall come among you and say this, ye
- 12:30Speaker 1: will receive him and say that he is a prophet. Yea.
- 12:34Speaker 1: He will lift him up, and ye will give unto
- 12:36Speaker 1: him of your substance. You will give unto him of
- 12:39Speaker 1: your gold and of your silver, and ye will clothe
- 12:43Speaker 1: him with costly apparel. And because he speaketh flattering words
- 12:47Speaker 1: unto you, and he saith that all is well, then
- 12:51Speaker 1: ye will not find fault with him. Oh, ye wicked,
- 12:55Speaker 1: and ye perverse, generation, ye hardened, and ye stiff necked people.
- 12:59Speaker 1: How how long will ye suppose that the Lord will
- 13:02Speaker 1: suffer you? Yea? How long will ye suffer yourselves to
- 13:05Speaker 1: be led by foolish and blind guides? Yea? How long
- 13:10Speaker 1: will ye choose darkness rather than light? Yea. Behold, the
- 13:14Speaker 1: anger of the Lord is already kindled against you. Behold
- 13:18Speaker 1: he hath cursed the land because of your iniquity. And
- 13:22Speaker 1: behold the time cometh that he curseth your riches, that
- 13:25Speaker 1: they become slippery, that ye cannot hold them, And in
- 13:29Speaker 1: the days of your poverty ye cannot retain them. And
- 13:33Speaker 1: in the days of your poverty ye shall cry unto
- 13:35Speaker 1: the Lord, And in vain shall ye cry, For your
- 13:38Speaker 1: desolation is already come upon you, and your destruction is
- 13:42Speaker 1: made sure, and then shall ye weep and howl in
- 13:45Speaker 1: that day saith the Lord of hosts. And then shall
- 13:49Speaker 1: ye lament and say, oh, that I had repented and
- 13:52Speaker 1: had not killed the prophets and stoned them and cast
- 13:55Speaker 1: them out. Yea, in that day ye shall say, Oh,
- 13:59Speaker 1: that we had remember the Lord our God, in the
- 14:01Speaker 1: day that he gave us our riches, and then they
- 14:04Speaker 1: would not have become slippery, that we should lose them.
- 14:07Speaker 1: For behold, our riches are gone from us. Behold we
- 14:11Speaker 1: lay a tool here, and on the morrow it is gone.
- 14:13Speaker 1: And behold our swords are taken from us. In the
- 14:16Speaker 1: day we have sought them for battle. Yea, we have
- 14:19Speaker 1: hid up our treasure, and they have slipped away from
- 14:23Speaker 1: us because of the curse of the land. Oh that
- 14:26Speaker 1: we had repented in the day that the word of
- 14:28Speaker 1: the Lord came unto us. For behold, the land is cursed,
- 14:32Speaker 1: and all things are become slippery, and we cannot hold them.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Behold we are surrounded by demons. Yea, we are encircled
- 14:39Speaker 1: about by the angels of Him who hath sought to
- 14:42Speaker 1: destroy our souls. Behold, our iniquities are great, O, Lord,
- 14:46Speaker 1: canst till not turn away thine anger from us, and
- 14:50Speaker 1: this shall be your language in those days. But behold,
- 14:53Speaker 1: your days of probation are past. Ye have procrastinated the
- 14:58Speaker 1: day of your salvation until it is everlastingly too late,
- 15:02Speaker 1: and your destruction is made sure, yea, For ye have
- 15:05Speaker 1: sought all the days of your lives for that which
- 15:08Speaker 1: ye could not obtain. And ye have sought for happiness
- 15:12Speaker 1: in doing iniquity, which thing is contrary to the nature
- 15:16Speaker 1: of that righteousness which is in our great and eternal head.
- 15:20Speaker 1: O ye people of the land, that ye would hear
- 15:23Speaker 1: my words, and I pray that the anger of the
- 15:27Speaker 1: Lord be turned away from you, and that ye would
- 15:29Speaker 1: repent and be saved Helimann chapter fourteen. And now it
- 15:37Speaker 1: came to pass that Samuel de Lamanite did prophesy a
- 15:40Speaker 1: great many more things which cannot be written. And behold
- 15:44Speaker 1: he said unto them. Behold, I give unto you a
- 15:47Speaker 1: sign for five years more cometh. And behold then cometh
- 15:51Speaker 1: the Son of God, to redeem all those who shall
- 15:53Speaker 1: believe on his name. And behold this will I give
- 15:56Speaker 1: unto you for a sign at the time of his coming.
- 15:59Speaker 1: For behold, there shall be great lights in heaven, insomuch
- 16:03Speaker 1: that in the night before he cometh, there shall be
- 16:05Speaker 1: no darkness, insomuch that it shall appear unto man as
- 16:09Speaker 1: if it was day. Therefore, there shall be one day
- 16:14Speaker 1: and a night, and a day as if it were
- 16:16Speaker 1: one day and there were no night. And this shall
- 16:20Speaker 1: be unto you for a sign. For ye shall know
- 16:23Speaker 1: of the rising of the sun and also of its setting.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall
- 16:28Speaker 1: be two days and night. Nevertheless, the night shall not
- 16:33Speaker 1: be darkened, and it shall be the night before he
- 16:36Speaker 1: is born. And behold, there shall a new star arise,
- 16:39Speaker 1: such an one as ye never have beheld. And this
- 16:43Speaker 1: also shall be a sign unto you. And behold, this
- 16:46Speaker 1: is not all. There shall be many signs and wonders
- 16:49Speaker 1: in heaven. And it shall come to pass that ye
- 16:52Speaker 1: shall all be amazed and wonder insomuch that ye shall
- 16:55Speaker 1: fall to the earth. And it shall come to pass
- 16:58Speaker 1: that whosoever shall believe on the Sun of God, the
- 17:01Speaker 1: same shall have everlasting life. And behold, thus hath the
- 17:05Speaker 1: Lord commanded me by his Angel, that I should come
- 17:08Speaker 1: and tell this thing unto you. Yea, he hath commanded
- 17:11Speaker 1: that I should prophesy these things unto you. Yea he
- 17:15Speaker 1: hath said unto me, cry unto this people, repent and
- 17:19Speaker 1: prepare the way of the Lord. And now, because I
- 17:23Speaker 1: am in Lamanite, and have spoken unto you the words
- 17:25Speaker 1: which the Lord hath commanded me, and because it was
- 17:28Speaker 1: hard against you, ye are angry with me, and do
- 17:31Speaker 1: seek to destroy me, and have cast me out from
- 17:33Speaker 1: among you. And ye shall hear my words. For for
- 17:37Speaker 1: this intent have I come up upon the walls of
- 17:39Speaker 1: this city, that ye might hear and know of the
- 17:41Speaker 1: judgments of God, which do await you because of your iniquities,
- 17:45Speaker 1: and also that ye might know the conditions of repentance.
- 17:50Speaker 1: And also that ye might know of the coming of
- 17:52Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven
- 17:56Speaker 1: and of earth, the creator of all things from the beginning,
- 18:00Speaker 1: and that ye might know of the signs of his coming,
- 18:03Speaker 1: to the intent that ye might believe on his name.
- 18:06Speaker 1: And if ye believe on his name, ye will repent
- 18:09Speaker 1: of all your sins, that thereby ye may have a
- 18:12Speaker 1: remission of them through His merits. And behold again another
- 18:17Speaker 1: sign I give unto you, yea a sign of his death,
- 18:21Speaker 1: for Behold, he surely must die, that salvation may come. Yea,
- 18:25Speaker 1: it behooveth him and becometh expedient, that he dieth to
- 18:28Speaker 1: bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, that thereby
- 18:32Speaker 1: men may be brought into the presence of the Lord. Yea. Behold,
- 18:36Speaker 1: this death bringeth to pass the resurrection, and redeemeth all
- 18:39Speaker 1: mankind from the first death, that spiritual death. For all mankind,
- 18:45Speaker 1: by the fall of Adam, being cut off from the
- 18:47Speaker 1: presence of the Lord, are considered as dead, both as
- 18:51Speaker 1: to things temporal and to things spiritual. But behold, the
- 18:55Speaker 1: resurrection of Christ redeemeth mankind, yea, even all mankind mind,
- 19:00Speaker 1: and bringeth them back into the presence of the Lord. Yea.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And it bringeth to pass the condition of repentance, that
- 19:08Speaker 1: whosoever repenteth the same is not hewn down and cast
- 19:12Speaker 1: unto the fire. But whosoever repenteth not is hewn down
- 19:17Speaker 1: and cast unto the fire. And there cometh upon them
- 19:20Speaker 1: again as spiritual death. YEA, a second death, for they
- 19:24Speaker 1: are cut off again as to things pertaining to righteousness.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Therefore repent, ye repent ye lest by knowing these things
- 19:32Speaker 1: and not doing them, ye shall suffer yourselves to come
- 19:35Speaker 1: under condemnation, and ye are brought down unto this second death.
- 19:40Speaker 1: But behold, as I said unto you concerning another sign,
- 19:44Speaker 1: a sign of his death. Behold, in that day that
- 19:47Speaker 1: he shall suffer death, the sun shall be darkened and
- 19:51Speaker 1: refuse to give his light unto you, and also the
- 19:54Speaker 1: moon and the stars. And there shall be no light
- 19:57Speaker 1: upon the face of the land, even from the time
- 19:59Speaker 1: that he shall suffer death, for the space of three days,
- 20:03Speaker 1: to the time that he shall rise again from the dead. Yea.
- 20:07Speaker 1: At the time that he shall yield up the ghost,
- 20:10Speaker 1: there shall be thunderings and lightnings for the space of
- 20:12Speaker 1: many hours, and the earth shall shake and tremble, And
- 20:16Speaker 1: the rocks which are upon the face of this earth,
- 20:19Speaker 1: which are both above the earth and beneath, which ye
- 20:22Speaker 1: know at this time are solid, or the more part
- 20:25Speaker 1: of it is one solid mass, shall be broken up. Yea.
- 20:29Speaker 1: There shall be rent in twain, and shall ever after
- 20:32Speaker 1: be found in seams and in cracks, and in broken
- 20:34Speaker 1: fragments upon the face of the whole earth. Yea, both
- 20:38Speaker 1: above the earth and beneath. And behold, there shall be
- 20:41Speaker 1: great tempests, and there shall be many mountains laid low
- 20:45Speaker 1: like into a valley. And there shall be many places
- 20:48Speaker 1: which are now called valleys, which shall become mountains whose
- 20:52Speaker 1: height is great. And many highways shall be broken up,
- 20:55Speaker 1: and many cities shall become desolate, and many graves shall
- 20:59Speaker 1: be open and shall yield up many of their dead,
- 21:02Speaker 1: and many saints shall appear unto many, and behold, thus
- 21:06Speaker 1: hath the Angel spoken unto me. For he said unto
- 21:09Speaker 1: me that there should be thunderings and lightnings for the
- 21:12Speaker 1: space of many hours. And he said unto me that
- 21:15Speaker 1: while the thunder and lightning lasted, and the tempest, that
- 21:20Speaker 1: these things should be, and that darkness should cover the
- 21:23Speaker 1: face of the whole earth for the space of three days.
- 21:26Speaker 1: And the Angel said unto me, that many shall see
- 21:29Speaker 1: greater things than these, to the intent that they might believe,
- 21:32Speaker 1: that these signs and these wonders should come to pass
- 21:35Speaker 1: upon all the face of this land, to the intent
- 21:38Speaker 1: that there should be no cause for unbelief among the
- 21:41Speaker 1: children of men. And this to the intent that whosoever
- 21:45Speaker 1: will believe might be saved, and that whosoever will not believe,
- 21:49Speaker 1: a righteous judgment might come upon them. And also if
- 21:53Speaker 1: they are condemned, they bring upon themselves their own condemnation.
- 21:57Speaker 1: And now remember, remember, my brethren, that whosoever perisheth, perisheth
- 22:04Speaker 1: unto himself, and whosoever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto himself.
- 22:09Speaker 1: For behold, ye are free. Ye are permitted to act
- 22:12Speaker 1: for yourselves. For behold, God hath given unto you a knowledge,
- 22:17Speaker 1: and he hath made you free. He hath given unto
- 22:20Speaker 1: you that ye might know good from evil, and he
- 22:24Speaker 1: hath given unto you that ye might choose life or death.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And ye can do good and be restored unto that
- 22:30Speaker 1: which is good, or have that which is good restored
- 22:34Speaker 1: unto you, or ye can do evil and have that
- 22:38Speaker 1: which is evil restored unto you Helimann chapter fifteen. And now,
- 22:46Speaker 1: my beloved brethren, behold, I declare unto you that except
- 22:49Speaker 1: ye shall repent, your houses shall be left unto you desolate, yea,
- 22:54Speaker 1: accept ye repent. Your women shall have great cause to
- 22:57Speaker 1: mourn in the day that they shall give suck, for
- 23:00Speaker 1: ye shall attempt to flee, and there shall be no
- 23:02Speaker 1: place for refuge, YEA. And woe unto them which are
- 23:06Speaker 1: with child, for they shall be heavy and cannot flee.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Therefore they shall be trodden down and shall be left
- 23:12Speaker 1: to perish. Yea, woe unto this people who are called
- 23:16Speaker 1: the people of Nephi, except they shall repent when they
- 23:19Speaker 1: shall see all these signs and wonders which shall be
- 23:22Speaker 1: showed unto them. For behold, they have been a chosen
- 23:25Speaker 1: people of the Lord. Yea. The people of Nephi hath
- 23:28Speaker 1: he loved, and also hath he chastened them. Yea, in
- 23:31Speaker 1: the days of their iniquities, hath he chastened them because
- 23:34Speaker 1: He loveth them. But behold, my brethren, the Lamanites hath
- 23:39Speaker 1: he hated, because their deeds have been evil continually, and
- 23:42Speaker 1: this because of the iniquity of the tradition of their fathers.
- 23:45Speaker 1: But behold, salvation hath come upon them through the preaching
- 23:49Speaker 1: of the Nephites. And for this intent hath the Lord
- 23:52Speaker 1: prolonged their days. And I would that ye should behold
- 23:56Speaker 1: that the more part of them are in the path
- 23:58Speaker 1: of their duty, and they do one circumspectually before God,
- 24:02Speaker 1: and they do observe to keep His commandments and his
- 24:05Speaker 1: statutes and his judgments according to the law of Moses. Yea,
- 24:09Speaker 1: I say unto you that the more part of them
- 24:11Speaker 1: are doing this, and they are striving with unwearied diligence,
- 24:14Speaker 1: that they may bring the remainder of their brethren to
- 24:17Speaker 1: the knowledge of the truth. Therefore there are many who
- 24:20Speaker 1: do add to their numbers daily. And behold, ye do
- 24:23Speaker 1: know of yourselves, for ye have witnessed it that as
- 24:26Speaker 1: many of them as are brought to the knowledge of
- 24:29Speaker 1: the truth and to know of the wicked and abominable
- 24:32Speaker 1: traditions of their fathers, and are led to believe the
- 24:34Speaker 1: holy scriptures. Yea, the prophecies of the Holy prophets, which
- 24:38Speaker 1: are written, which leadeth them to faith on the Lord,
- 24:41Speaker 1: and unto repentance, which faith and repentance bringeth a change
- 24:45Speaker 1: of heart unto them. Therefore, as many as have come
- 24:48Speaker 1: to this, ye know of yourselves, are firm and steadfast
- 24:52Speaker 1: in the faith and in the thing wherewith they have
- 24:55Speaker 1: been made free. And ye know also that they have
- 24:59Speaker 1: buried their weapons war, and they fear to take them
- 25:02Speaker 1: up lest by any means they should sin. Yea, ye
- 25:05Speaker 1: can see that they fear to sin, For behold, they
- 25:07Speaker 1: will suffer themselves, that they be trodden down and slain
- 25:10Speaker 1: by their enemies, and will not lift their swords against them.
- 25:13Speaker 1: And this because of their faith in Christ, and now
- 25:17Speaker 1: because of their steadfastness when they do believe in that
- 25:19Speaker 1: thing which they do believe, for because of their firmness,
- 25:23Speaker 1: when they are once enlightened, behold, the Lord shall bless
- 25:26Speaker 1: them and prolong their days, notwithstanding their iniquity. Yea, even
- 25:32Speaker 1: if they should dwindle in unbelief, the Lord shall prolong
- 25:35Speaker 1: their days until the time shall come, which hath been
- 25:38Speaker 1: spoken of by our fathers, and also by the prophet
- 25:40Speaker 1: Zenus and many other prophets, concerning the restoration of our brethren,
- 25:45Speaker 1: the Lamanites again to the knowledge of the truth. Yea,
- 25:48Speaker 1: I say unto you that in the latter times the
- 25:50Speaker 1: promises of the Lord have been extended to our brethren,
- 25:53Speaker 1: the Lamanites. And notwithstanding the many afflictions which they shall have,
- 25:58Speaker 1: and notwithstanding they shall be driven to and fro upon
- 26:01Speaker 1: the face of the earth, and be hunted, and shall
- 26:04Speaker 1: be smitten and scattered abroad, having no place for refuge,
- 26:07Speaker 1: the Lord shall be merciful unto them. And this is
- 26:10Speaker 1: according to the prophecy, that they shall again be brought
- 26:13Speaker 1: to the true knowledge, which is knowledge of their Redeemer
- 26:16Speaker 1: and their great and true shepherd, and be numbered among
- 26:19Speaker 1: his sheep. Therefore, I say unto you, it shall be
- 26:22Speaker 1: better for them than for you, except you repent. For behold,
- 26:26Speaker 1: had the mighty works been shown unto them, which have
- 26:29Speaker 1: been shown unto you, yea unto them who have dwindled
- 26:32Speaker 1: an unbelief because of the traditions of their fathers, Ye
- 26:36Speaker 1: can see of yourselves that they never would again have
- 26:38Speaker 1: dwindled an unbelief. Therefore, saith the Lord, I will not
- 26:42Speaker 1: utterly destroy them, but I will cause that in the
- 26:45Speaker 1: day of my wisdom, they shall return again unto me,
- 26:48Speaker 1: Saith the Lord. And now behold saith the Lord, concerning
- 26:51Speaker 1: the people of the Nephites. If they will not repent
- 26:56Speaker 1: and observe to do my will, I will utterly destroy them,
- 26:59Speaker 1: Saith the Lord, because of their unbelief, notwithstanding the many
- 27:03Speaker 1: mighty works which I have done among them. And as
- 27:06Speaker 1: surely as the Lord liveth shall these things be, Saith
- 27:09Speaker 1: the Lord. Helimann chapter sixteen. And now it came to
- 27:16Speaker 1: pass that there were many who heard the words of
- 27:18Speaker 1: Samuel the Lamanite, which he spake upon the walls of
- 27:21Speaker 1: the city, And as many as believed on his word
- 27:24Speaker 1: went forth and sought for Nephi. And when they had
- 27:26Speaker 1: come forth and found him, they confessed unto him their
- 27:29Speaker 1: sins and denied, not desiring that they might be baptized
- 27:33Speaker 1: unto the Lord. But as many as there were who
- 27:37Speaker 1: did not believe in the words of Samuel were angry
- 27:39Speaker 1: with him, and they cast stones at him upon the wall,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and also many shot arrows at him as he stood
- 27:44Speaker 1: upon the wall. But the spirit of the Lord was
- 27:47Speaker 1: with him insomuch that they could not hit him with
- 27:50Speaker 1: their stones, neither with their arrows. Now, when they saw
- 27:54Speaker 1: that they could not hit him, there were many more
- 27:56Speaker 1: who did believe on his words, insomuch that they went
- 28:00Speaker 1: away unto Nephi to be baptized. And behold, Nephi was
- 28:04Speaker 1: baptizing and prophesying and preaching, crying repentance unto the people,
- 28:09Speaker 1: showing signs and wonders, working miracles among the people, that
- 28:13Speaker 1: they might know that the Christ must shortly come, telling
- 28:17Speaker 1: them of things which must shortly come, that they might
- 28:20Speaker 1: know and remember at the time of their coming, that
- 28:22Speaker 1: they had been made known unto them beforehand, to the
- 28:25Speaker 1: intent that they might believe. Therefore, as many as believed
- 28:29Speaker 1: on the words of Samuel went forth unto him to
- 28:32Speaker 1: be baptized. For they came repenting and confessing their sins.
- 28:37Speaker 1: But the more part of them did not believe in
- 28:39Speaker 1: the words of Samuel. Therefore, when they saw that they
- 28:42Speaker 1: could not hit him with their stones and their arrows,
- 28:45Speaker 1: they cried unto their captain, saying, take this fellow and
- 28:49Speaker 1: bind him, for behold, he hath a devil, and because
- 28:52Speaker 1: of the power of the devil which is in him,
- 28:53Speaker 1: we cannot hit him with our stones and our arrows. Therefore,
- 28:57Speaker 1: take him and bind him, and away with him. And
- 29:00Speaker 1: as they went forth to lay their hands on him, behold,
- 29:03Speaker 1: he did cast himself down from the wall, and did
- 29:06Speaker 1: flee out of their lands, yea even unto his own country,
- 29:10Speaker 1: and began to preach and to prophesy among his own people.
- 29:13Speaker 1: And behold he was never heard of more among the Nephies.
- 29:17Speaker 1: And thus were the affairs of the people. And thus
- 29:19Speaker 1: ended the eighty and sixth year of the reign of
- 29:21Speaker 1: the Judges over the people of Nephi. And thus ended
- 29:25Speaker 1: also the eighty and seventh year of the reign of
- 29:27Speaker 1: the Judges. The more part of the people remaining in
- 29:30Speaker 1: their pride and wickedness, and the lesser part walking more
- 29:33Speaker 1: circumspectfully before God. And these were the conditions also in
- 29:38Speaker 1: the eighty and eighth year of the reign of the Judges,
- 29:41Speaker 1: and there was but little alteration in the affairs of
- 29:43Speaker 1: the people, save it were the people began to be
- 29:46Speaker 1: more hardened in iniquity and do more and more of
- 29:49Speaker 1: that which was contrary to the commandments of God in
- 29:52Speaker 1: the eighty and ninth year of the reign of the Judges.
- 29:56Speaker 1: But it came to pass. In the ninetieth year of
- 29:58Speaker 1: the reign of the Judges. There were great signs given
- 30:01Speaker 1: unto the people and wonders, and the words of the
- 30:04Speaker 1: prophets began to be fulfilled, and angels did appear unto
- 30:08Speaker 1: men wise men, and did declare unto them glad tidings
- 30:11Speaker 1: of great joy. Thus, in this year the scriptures began
- 30:15Speaker 1: to be fulfilled. Nevertheless, the people began to harden their hearts,
- 30:20Speaker 1: all save it were the most believing part of them,
- 30:23Speaker 1: both of the Nephites and also of the Lamanites, and
- 30:26Speaker 1: began to depend upon their own strength and upon their
- 30:29Speaker 1: own wisdom, saying some things they may have guessed right
- 30:33Speaker 1: among so many. But behold we know that all these
- 30:35Speaker 1: great marvelous works cannot come to pass of which has
- 30:38Speaker 1: been spoken. And they began to reason and to contend
- 30:42Speaker 1: among themselves, saying that it is not reasonable that such
- 30:45Speaker 1: a being as a Christ shall come. If so and
- 30:48Speaker 1: he be the Son of God, the Father of heaven
- 30:51Speaker 1: and of earth, as it has been spoken, why will
- 30:54Speaker 1: he not show himself unto us as well as unto
- 30:56Speaker 1: them who shall be at Jerusalem? Yea, why will he
- 30:59Speaker 1: not show himself in this land as well as in
- 31:02Speaker 1: the land of Jerusalem. But behold, we know that this
- 31:05Speaker 1: is a wicked tradition which has been handed down unto
- 31:08Speaker 1: us by our fathers, to cause us that we should
- 31:11Speaker 1: believe in some great and marvelous thing which should come
- 31:14Speaker 1: to pass, but not among us, but in a land
- 31:17Speaker 1: that is far distant, a land which we know not.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Therefore they can keep us in ignorance, for we cannot
- 31:23Speaker 1: witness with our own eyes that they are true. And
- 31:26Speaker 1: they will, by the cunning and the mysterious arts of
- 31:29Speaker 1: the Evil One, work some great mystery that we cannot understand,
- 31:32Speaker 1: which will keep us down to be servants to their words.
- 31:35Speaker 1: And also servants unto them, for we depend upon them
- 31:38Speaker 1: to teach us the word. And thus will they keep
- 31:41Speaker 1: us in ignorance if we will yield ourselves unto them
- 31:43Speaker 1: all the days of our lives. And many more things
- 31:47Speaker 1: do the people imagine up in their hearts, which were
- 31:49Speaker 1: foolish and vain, and they were much disturbed, For Satan
- 31:53Speaker 1: did stir them up to do iniquity continually. Yea, he
- 31:57Speaker 1: did go about spreading rumors and contentions upon all all
- 32:00Speaker 1: the face of the land, that he might harden the
- 32:02Speaker 1: hearts of the people against that which was good and
- 32:05Speaker 1: against that which should come. And notwithstanding the signs and
- 32:09Speaker 1: the wonders which were wrought among the people of the Lord,
- 32:12Speaker 1: and the many miracles which they did, Satan did get
- 32:15Speaker 1: great hold upon the hearts of the people upon all
- 32:18Speaker 1: the face of the land. And thus ended the ninetieth
- 32:21Speaker 1: year of the reign of the judges over the people
- 32:23Speaker 1: of Nephi, And thus ended the Book of Heliman according
- 32:28Speaker 1: to the record of Heliman and his Sons. End of Heliman,
- 32:32Speaker 1: Chapters twelve through sixteen,
