- 0:03Speaker 1: Hi, I'm Adam Green, the director of Hatchet, and you're
- 0:06Speaker 1: listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:11Speaker 2: This episode is rated M for Misty. Yes, that's right,
- 0:14Speaker 2: this is a Misty episode, so it will be laced
- 0:16Speaker 2: with profanity even more than usual. If you're not comfortable
- 0:20Speaker 2: with this level of profanity, perhaps this isn't the episode
- 0:23Speaker 2: for you. But we have many other episodes to choose
- 0:25Speaker 2: from that do not feature Misty and will probably be
- 0:28Speaker 2: far less offensive. Okay, maybe. With that having been said,
- 0:32Speaker 2: on with the show. It's showtime, folks.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Enjoy the show.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Kilowatts of power. What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:21Speaker 6: I am Brian. I am Misty.
- 1:22Speaker 7: I'm Jay.
- 1:24Speaker 8: It is summertime once again and obviously because we're doing
- 1:31Speaker 8: a whole lot of road trips.
- 1:33Speaker 6: So once again, we're.
- 1:36Speaker 9: In the car. And this time we brought Bill with us.
- 1:48Speaker 9: Say hello.
- 1:49Speaker 3: How's it going, America?
- 1:52Speaker 10: We have international listeners.
- 1:54Speaker 9: International, that's true.
- 1:55Speaker 7: We've picked up a lot of people in Ireland lately
- 1:58Speaker 7: and some Australians.
- 2:01Speaker 9: Anybody else out there, email us and let us know.
- 2:04Speaker 7: So, yeah, we are on the road having just come
- 2:08Speaker 7: back from Indianapolis from the Days of the Dead convention.
- 2:11Speaker 7: So I figured we would tell some stories from it tonight.
- 2:16Speaker 7: You know how we are with our road trips and
- 2:18Speaker 7: our fun convention activities. So, Misty, do you want to
- 2:21Speaker 7: fire into it? I know you're all keyed up.
- 2:23Speaker 10: Dude, Don Coscarelli, whose name I probably just slaughtered, was, like,
- 2:27Speaker 10: the most awesomest person ever.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He kind of was.
- 2:29Speaker 10: He was, like, ridiculously sweet and, like, very, like, cool and, like,
- 2:33Speaker 10: was telling us stories and just was, like, really, really
- 2:36Speaker 10: friendly and just really cool. And he let me get
- 2:38Speaker 10: more pictures with him after I got up because he
- 2:40Speaker 10: had the shiny ball. And I wanted a picture with
- 2:42Speaker 10: the shiny ball. And, yeah, it was awesome. And I was...
- 2:46Speaker 10: made my day i was thrilled.
- 2:48Speaker 9: He is pretty awesome he made some of my favorite.
- 2:50Speaker 7: Movies i mean beast master really master we we've covered
- 2:53Speaker 7: on previous episodes how much we all kind of love
- 2:56Speaker 7: certainly you and i definitely are big beast master fans
- 2:59Speaker 7: phantasm phantasm the shiny ball bubba hotep john dies at
- 3:04Speaker 7: the end he's still cranking him out.
- 3:07Speaker 10: And a couple other movies that i probably haven't seen
- 3:09Speaker 10: but i've seen a majority of them i was going
- 3:11Speaker 10: through his list his filmography if you will And I
- 3:13Speaker 10: was like, wow, I've seen a good portion of these movies.
- 3:16Speaker 10: He really hasn't done that many, but the ones that
- 3:19Speaker 10: he has done has been awesome.
- 3:21Speaker 9: He is badass.
- 3:22Speaker 11: He is.
- 3:23Speaker 10: And like I said, he was super nice, so that
- 3:25Speaker 10: made it totally worth it right there. But, yeah, I
- 3:28Speaker 10: was like, how many people are going to be there
- 3:30Speaker 10: to get Beastmaster stuff signed? Everybody's there for Phantasm and
- 3:33Speaker 10: everything else.
- 3:34Speaker 7: There's a lot of Phantasm people, which is nothing wrong
- 3:36Speaker 7: with that. Phantasm's cool and all, but I'm all about
- 3:39Speaker 7: some Beastmaster.
- 3:39Speaker 10: He told us stories, and that was so exciting.
- 3:42Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 10: And he seemed pretty excited that I had a hamster
- 3:44Speaker 10: at one point named Koto on Poto. So that was
- 3:46Speaker 10: pretty cool.
- 3:48Speaker 7: Do we want to go into Danny Trejo? That was
- 3:53Speaker 7: mostly what brought you along. Do you want to go
- 3:55Speaker 7: into your meeting of Danny Trejo?
- 3:58Speaker 3: Absolutely, man.
- 4:00Speaker 13: Kind of followed his infamy before I really knew about
- 4:06Speaker 13: the social work and stuff that he did, which really
- 4:10Speaker 13: gave me a lot of... clean and sober for a
- 4:13Speaker 13: long time and i know he works at pasadena recovery house.
- 4:16Speaker 3: And he's open about it i'm not outing him but
- 4:18Speaker 3: i really.
- 4:19Speaker 13: Have a lot of respect for the man and he
- 4:22Speaker 13: is just like really the funniest just down to earth
- 4:25Speaker 13: dude and he has got to be the busiest person
- 4:30Speaker 13: on earth with all the television movie works and how
- 4:34Speaker 13: huge he's got now there were gigantosaurus lines there but
- 4:38Speaker 13: they moved quick and he completely signed some kick-ass stuff
- 4:42Speaker 13: for me, and took pictures, and yeah, he didn't tell
- 4:48Speaker 13: as much stories and stuff.
- 4:49Speaker 3: As other people and stuff, but he was very.
- 4:51Speaker 13: Personable, and I mean, it made my day, and pretty
- 4:57Speaker 13: much he's been on my star radar for a while,
- 5:01Speaker 13: and he canceled from the last one I wanted to
- 5:03Speaker 13: go to, so as few of these type of Events
- 5:07Speaker 13: that I went to, it was like a benchmark, lifetime
- 5:11Speaker 13: benchmark to meet Danny Trejo in person. I mean, even
- 5:15Speaker 13: after Machete won and such and all the stardom that
- 5:18Speaker 13: he's got now, it was just too awesome to meet
- 5:22Speaker 13: somebody that big and that cool even before that. If
- 5:26Speaker 13: you know any of his, like, how he got into
- 5:29Speaker 13: Hollywood and such.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Through Edward Bunker, and stuff like that. He's got a
- 5:36Speaker 3: long story.
- 5:38Speaker 13: It's a very interesting story, and he's a real positive
- 5:41Speaker 13: person coming from the background he did.
- 5:43Speaker 3: So I won't hog the mic.
- 5:46Speaker 13: Up, but it was a real big deal for me
- 5:49Speaker 13: to meet Danny Trejo in person.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 5:53Speaker 10: But, yeah, it is. How does he have time for
- 5:56Speaker 10: everything with all the movies and all the TV appearances
- 5:59Speaker 10: and all the conventions? And does he still do charity work?
- 6:04Speaker 3: Oh, major.
- 6:05Speaker 10: So it's like, how does he have time for anything,
- 6:07Speaker 10: you know?
- 6:08Speaker 13: Almost, I don't know, almost when he's there, almost like
- 6:13Speaker 13: around the clock work at Pasadena Recovery House that's famous.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Dr. Drew, I mean, had celebrity rehab there.
- 6:22Speaker 13: And going speaking at Narcotics Anonymous, active in those outside
- 6:27Speaker 13: groups as well, too.
- 6:29Speaker 3: I mean, and then having a pretty decent-sized family.
- 6:33Speaker 13: Had the same wife, you know, from way back in
- 6:37Speaker 13: the 60s when he got, you know, freed from prison.
- 6:42Speaker 10: That's impressive right there in Hollywood, isn't it?
- 6:44Speaker 3: Oh, he's that kind of character. Very loyal.
- 6:47Speaker 7: How many kids has he got? Basically, when are we
- 6:50Speaker 7: going to start seeing, like, the acting clan of Trejo?
- 6:53Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 6:53Speaker 13: Sons and punk bands already. And he supports him, too.
- 6:57Speaker 13: Goes to shows. Has helped, you know, has supported him completely.
- 7:01Speaker 13: Been around that. I think he's got about four children
- 7:04Speaker 13: of different ages.
- 7:07Speaker 10: That Danny Trejo. Which we actually did hear somebody refer
- 7:11Speaker 10: to him as we were sitting there. That's that line
- 7:13Speaker 10: for that Danny Trejo.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Danny Trejo as well.
- 7:18Speaker 6: Trio.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Trio.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Danny Trio.
- 7:20Speaker 9: I hope he was being funny. He probably wasn't. He
- 7:23Speaker 9: didn't sound like it. Nope.
- 7:25Speaker 10: He was that line for Danny Tree Joe.
- 7:27Speaker 3: And it's like, it's not machete. It's machete. All right?
- 7:31Speaker 3: Get it straight. Machete is spoken here.
- 7:36Speaker 9: He signed a lot of those today, too.
- 7:39Speaker 10: Oh, yeah. We've met him at another convention before, and
- 7:42Speaker 10: he seemed really nice. And I don't know if that...
- 7:45Speaker 10: That was pre-Machete, I think. Well, it was right before
- 7:47Speaker 10: it came out, I think.
- 7:49Speaker 7: Yeah, I think the fake trailer had existed at that point,
- 7:51Speaker 7: but not the movie.
- 7:53Speaker 10: I think he confused you for one of his Mexican
- 7:55Speaker 10: brothers or something because he seemed to really like you
- 7:57Speaker 10: an awful lot.
- 7:58Speaker 9: He does seem really taken with you, Jay.
- 8:00Speaker 1: He had a lot more time to hang out and
- 8:03Speaker 1: talk back then. The lines weren't as long because most
- 8:08Speaker 1: people were just like, ah, you know, he was in
- 8:11Speaker 1: Dust Till Dawn, you.
- 8:12Speaker 6: Know, cool.
- 8:13Speaker 9: He's in desperado.
- 8:14Speaker 1: He's in desperado. But that's all he was at that point.
- 8:17Speaker 1: And he wasn't on Sons of Anarchy at the time
- 8:19Speaker 1: or any of that stuff. So the lines were really
- 8:22Speaker 1: kind of short.
- 8:23Speaker 10: A lot more manageable. I mean, they weren't that bad today.
- 8:26Speaker 10: I mean, for as long as what we thought it
- 8:29Speaker 10: was going to be or what we had anticipated. I mean,
- 8:31Speaker 10: the line was, it wasn't short, short, but it moved fast.
- 8:35Speaker 10: You know, I guess because he realized he had a
- 8:36Speaker 10: lot to get done.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Moved a lot faster than Roddy Piper's line.
- 8:42Speaker 10: How was that for you?
- 8:43Speaker 3: Was it worth the wait?
- 8:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Was the line meeting that big, Roddy Piper? Yeah.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Well, it was more or less for a friend. But
- 8:51Speaker 1: it was interesting to meet him, too, because I do
- 8:53Speaker 1: like They Live.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:55Speaker 10: I know you kind of messed her name up a
- 8:56Speaker 10: little bit.
- 8:58Speaker 1: You know, his guy was telling him how to spell it,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and he was like, uh, eh, uh, uh, eh, eh.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I was like, dude, how hard is it to spell
- 9:07Speaker 1: the name? I showed you the name. Just look at
- 9:10Speaker 1: the name and spell it.
- 9:12Speaker 9: He seemed a lot more friendly this time.
- 9:14Speaker 1: He was very friendly.
- 9:15Speaker 7: I'd seen him before, and he seemed like he was
- 9:16Speaker 7: just sort of there to do what he had to do,
- 9:18Speaker 7: sign this, get the money.
- 9:20Speaker 9: But a lot of times it depends. He seems really
- 9:22Speaker 9: in a good mood today.
- 9:23Speaker 1: You've got to understand, they're people. So a lot of times, hey,
- 9:27Speaker 1: they've got things going on in their lives. Maybe sometimes
- 9:30Speaker 1: some people, I don't know, they've got to poop or something.
- 9:34Speaker 1: They're not in a good mood. They're ready to go home.
- 9:36Speaker 1: They're ready to go to the bathroom. They're ready just
- 9:38Speaker 1: to not have to deal with people. And then some
- 9:41Speaker 1: days you catch them and they're in good moods. He
- 9:44Speaker 1: seemed like he was in a really good mood.
- 9:45Speaker 13: It's fortunate that some of them have done all that,
- 9:50Speaker 13: especially his wrestling career and stuff, that are still people
- 9:55Speaker 13: that aren't completely demolished by the fame.
- 9:57Speaker 1: No, no. Not likely to afford it.
- 10:00Speaker 14: Up.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I don't know that Lita Ford's stuck up, but she
- 10:03Speaker 1: did really just kind of give me a kind of
- 10:07Speaker 1: piss-off look if you're not buying anything.
- 10:09Speaker 10: We had stories from other people. We cornered some other
- 10:11Speaker 10: guy who apparently had waited in line and got her autograph,
- 10:14Speaker 10: and apparently he was not too happy with her. He
- 10:17Speaker 10: said she was rude.
- 10:19Speaker 9: And in particular, she seemed really annoyed at Joan Jett.
- 10:22Speaker 7: And being that I'm all kinds of hardcore Joan Jett,
- 10:25Speaker 7: I'm kind of like, you know, I'm going to pick.
- 10:27Speaker 9: Sides, Lita. You're going to lose, so don't be a
- 10:30Speaker 9: bitch like that.
- 10:30Speaker 10: I would take Joan Jett over Lita Ford any day.
- 10:33Speaker 13: See the runaways, and I kind of see where that...
- 10:38Speaker 13: started it goes deep.
- 10:40Speaker 7: Yeah i mean they i they i think had issues
- 10:44Speaker 7: even from the beginning and towards the end i think
- 10:46Speaker 7: they were half the reason the whole band broke up
- 10:49Speaker 7: so it's like i know they didn't get along but
- 10:51Speaker 7: at least you know you're just kind of being cordial
- 10:54Speaker 7: with fans you know just kind of play along yeah
- 10:56Speaker 7: that's nice you know at least just be patronizing don't be.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Like sometimes you can't be like that though you know it's.
- 11:02Speaker 10: Not The guy's story's like, yeah. He told Lita Forbes, like, yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 10: I saw your buddy Joan Jett down in Florida last week.
- 11:09Speaker 10: He's like, what did he say?
- 11:11Speaker 9: She said, like, well, that's your problem or something like that.
- 11:15Speaker 9: Sorry about that.
- 11:16Speaker 13: Wouldn't you think that would be beyond her, even if
- 11:21Speaker 13: she's not really as relevant maybe in some circles as
- 11:25Speaker 13: Joan Jett? Wouldn't that be a little beyond character for
- 11:28Speaker 13: somebody that's known as the Eddie Van Halen of Chick
- 11:31Speaker 13: guitar players of that era?
- 11:33Speaker 9: That's kind of what I thought.
- 11:34Speaker 7: I was like, maybe it's just because Joan's kind of
- 11:37Speaker 7: still out there playing and, like, loading up, you know, shows.
- 11:40Speaker 9: And when's the last time I've even seen Lita play?
- 11:43Speaker 10: She ain't played at the fair yet. That's all I'm saying.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I think she's gotten to the point now where she
- 11:49Speaker 1: can't dress up in the little skimpy outfits and parade
- 11:52Speaker 1: around on stage.
- 11:54Speaker 9: Well, then, what's the point? Isn't that what rock and
- 11:56Speaker 9: roll is all about?
- 11:57Speaker 6: It is.
- 11:57Speaker 5: It is.
- 11:58Speaker 10: Think joan ever got to the skimpy i mean she.
- 12:01Speaker 9: Wore didn't care she was a.
- 12:02Speaker 10: Regular rock and roll clothes she wasn't like just banking
- 12:05Speaker 10: on skimpy clothes she banked on her actual talent which
- 12:08Speaker 10: i guess she's been we saw her what twice now
- 12:13Speaker 10: we're gonna want her twice.
- 12:14Speaker 7: Yeah because i've seen her like three times i've seen
- 12:17Speaker 7: joan quite a few times.
- 12:18Speaker 1: And she's Zero times.
- 12:20Speaker 10: I mean, the last time we saw her, she was
- 12:22Speaker 10: in kind of not really bad shape, but was her
- 12:24Speaker 10: hip giving her problems?
- 12:25Speaker 9: I think, yeah. I mean, again, they're all getting old.
- 12:28Speaker 10: I mean, she sat down for part of the show.
- 12:30Speaker 10: I don't care.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 12:31Speaker 9: That's the thing. That's how much of a badass she was.
- 12:35Speaker 9: She was in pain. You could tell.
- 12:37Speaker 7: At one point, she kind of stopped the show, and
- 12:39Speaker 7: she propped herself up to play her guitar solo. She's
- 12:43Speaker 7: not going to stop playing, no matter how much pain
- 12:46Speaker 7: she's in.
- 12:47Speaker 10: She was badass.
- 12:48Speaker 9: That she was.
- 12:50Speaker 10: Yeah, I would take Joan Jett over Lita Ford.
- 12:52Speaker 9: That's what I'm saying.
- 12:53Speaker 3: She was more runaways than that.
- 12:56Speaker 13: Not the limelight lead guitarist, but the all-around, you know,
- 13:01Speaker 13: the chick version of the Ramones. In that era, man,
- 13:06Speaker 13: I mean, groundbreaking. You want to say this about Chick Banner, that?
- 13:10Speaker 4: No.
- 13:11Speaker 3: She was like punk rock in the day. She was
- 13:15Speaker 3: a big fixture.
- 13:17Speaker 13: In the early punk scene that morphed into anything else.
- 13:21Speaker 13: She was a pioneer and she still holds that reputation
- 13:25Speaker 13: to this day.
- 13:27Speaker 7: I think that from what I heard like years ago,
- 13:30Speaker 7: when I first started like reading about the runaways and
- 13:32Speaker 7: trying to find out more about them, like that was
- 13:34Speaker 7: sort of the split was that Joan wanted to go
- 13:37Speaker 7: more punk rock and Lita was starting to get into
- 13:39Speaker 7: the metal thing and she wanted to play her solo.
- 13:42Speaker 7: So yeah, Yeah, I'd heard originally. Again, I don't know
- 13:45Speaker 7: how much.
- 13:45Speaker 9: That goes into it. But, yeah, that's what I'd always heard.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Hog in the spotlight.
- 13:49Speaker 10: Who do you think would win in a fight? I'm
- 13:51Speaker 10: going with Joan, aside from her hip. It depends on
- 13:54Speaker 10: how her hip's acting up to that day.
- 13:55Speaker 9: Oh, that's true.
- 13:56Speaker 10: Any regular day.
- 13:57Speaker 3: She's got heart, damn it.
- 13:58Speaker 10: Yeah, I think Joan would fight dirty. You know, I
- 14:02Speaker 10: think she wouldn't pull any punches.
- 14:03Speaker 9: They probably both would.
- 14:05Speaker 10: Yeah, I'd be okay with that. She would feel no
- 14:08Speaker 10: shame about it either. She would do it and be shameless.
- 14:10Speaker 6: I know.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Lita breaking a nail. It would be a tap out.
- 14:16Speaker 9: Over there by Lita was Gary.
- 14:18Speaker 10: I saw his teeth. I didn't talk to him or anything.
- 14:21Speaker 11: And Jake.
- 14:21Speaker 9: We went to the Jake. What was your take on Jake?
- 14:24Speaker 3: I knew a.
- 14:25Speaker 13: Friend through college that I didn't grow up with, but
- 14:30Speaker 13: met in college to grow up near him. And I'm
- 14:34Speaker 13: asking where this came from. Very detailed information on growing
- 14:40Speaker 13: this thing. Kid dude I knew from college knew Gary Busey,
- 14:46Speaker 13: lived kitty corner across the street from him, knew his
- 14:49Speaker 13: whole family and all this stuff. I knew more about
- 14:52Speaker 13: that era of his life than his teenage son. So
- 14:56Speaker 13: his son even remarked, I really hate to air out
- 15:00Speaker 13: personal stuff, but Gary's got a lot more personal stuff
- 15:03Speaker 13: than you're going to hear here.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Definitely.
- 15:06Speaker 9: He's got more personal stuff than everybody put together.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I felt kind of bad for him because you
- 15:11Speaker 1: were talking to him about it, and he was like,
- 15:14Speaker 1: I don't remember that.
- 15:17Speaker 3: I guess he had a different, what did he say?
- 15:19Speaker 3: I guess he had a second family.
- 15:20Speaker 1: He had a second family I didn't know about.
- 15:22Speaker 10: Did you make him cry?
- 15:23Speaker 9: Jake seems like a nice guy. Don't make him cry.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Maybe he'll make his dad feel guilty.
- 15:29Speaker 1: He'll go take him out and buy him ice cream.
- 15:32Speaker 10: Daddy, I want ice cream. I heard about your other
- 15:35Speaker 10: family today.
- 15:37Speaker 9: He's buying them ice cream right now.
- 15:38Speaker 1: That's where they went.
- 15:43Speaker 3: That kid didn't know what he was talking about. That
- 15:45Speaker 3: kid at the show. Yeah, he's not in the same
- 15:49Speaker 3: spirit wavelength that I am.
- 15:51Speaker 10: I thought about getting Gary Busey's autograph. Then I'm like,
- 15:55Speaker 10: you know what? That's a lot of damn money. I
- 15:57Speaker 10: can understand maybe like 20, 25 bucks.
- 15:58Speaker 6: 25 tops.
- 15:59Speaker 10: What's that? 40 damn dollars? 40? $ 40 to get his
- 16:04Speaker 10: autograph for Gary.
- 16:05Speaker 7: There were a couple of people at $ 40. It's funny
- 16:08Speaker 7: how much that's fluctuating these days, and it's kind.
- 16:10Speaker 9: Of going up most places.
- 16:11Speaker 10: Well, it was $ 40 to get the autograph and another $ 10.
- 16:14Speaker 10: Even if you paid for the autograph, it was still
- 16:16Speaker 10: an extra $ 10 to get a picture with him, which,
- 16:18Speaker 10: I mean, that's nuts. That's $ 50 total. I can understand
- 16:21Speaker 10: ones that do the picture if you buy an autograph.
- 16:25Speaker 10: You know, $ 40 for a picture and an autograph, that's
- 16:27Speaker 10: not that bad. You know, but $ 50? You're Gary Busey.
- 16:32Speaker 10: I'm sorry, no.
- 16:34Speaker 9: I don't know. It's a strange system.
- 16:36Speaker 10: Talk to Odorous.
- 16:37Speaker 9: Talk to Odorous. Talk to Adam Green again. That was awesome.
- 16:42Speaker 7: Okay, again, I have to tell everybody else because I
- 16:44Speaker 7: was amazed by this. Because I kind of went up
- 16:46Speaker 7: and I was like, hey, good to see you again.
- 16:48Speaker 7: And he was like, oh, yeah. I didn't know for sure. Again,
- 16:51Speaker 7: I wouldn't assume he remembered who the hell I was.
- 16:53Speaker 7: This was months and months ago. And he was like, oh, yeah.
- 16:57Speaker 7: And he started talking to me like he actually did.
- 16:59Speaker 7: so then he had little posters there, and I was like, oh,
- 17:01Speaker 7: I never really got anything last time, so he went
- 17:03Speaker 7: to sign it, and he goes, it's Brian, right, and
- 17:05Speaker 7: I was like, holy shit, I'm like, why do you,
- 17:09Speaker 7: number one, even remember who I was, that, like, you
- 17:11Speaker 7: remember where he was talking to me from, and then
- 17:13Speaker 7: remembered my name, for God's sakes, it was like, that's crazy, like,
- 17:17Speaker 7: I don't even think he asked me how to spell it,
- 17:20Speaker 7: he just spelled it right, that's crazy, I told him
- 17:23Speaker 7: he had a good memory, if nothing else, but, But, yeah,
- 17:26Speaker 7: he was awesome.
- 17:27Speaker 9: Again, just kind of hung out.
- 17:28Speaker 7: There and talked to him and the producer of his
- 17:30Speaker 7: show and, I think, his movies. And then eventually Odorous
- 17:34Speaker 7: wandered up, and he was pretty damn entertaining himself.
- 17:37Speaker 10: I made Brian miss getting a photo of Odorous in
- 17:39Speaker 10: the outfit. I didn't think he'd take it off that quick.
- 17:43Speaker 10: I just wanted to wait in line to see Roddy
- 17:44Speaker 10: Piper and then go over to Odorous. I'll be damned
- 17:47Speaker 10: if he didn't sneak off. Odorous is going to pass out.
- 17:49Speaker 9: He can't wear all that crazy stuff all day.
- 17:50Speaker 10: He just needs to calm his shit down. He just
- 17:52Speaker 10: needs to wait and get him a fan. They have fans.
- 17:54Speaker 10: But he seemed really cool. He was really cool. I mean,
- 17:57Speaker 10: I've never heard a GWAR song ever. You've never heard
- 17:59Speaker 10: a GWAR song?
- 18:00Speaker 9: I've never heard a GWAR.
- 18:00Speaker 10: I'm okay with that.
- 18:02Speaker 9: You've never gotten slimed by a GWAR song?
- 18:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:04Speaker 10: What's the big GWAR thing?
- 18:06Speaker 3: Rent the video, and you'll understand, and beware.
- 18:13Speaker 7: Well, and then Adam remembered who I was, but Odorous
- 18:16Speaker 7: remembered who you were. Do you want to tell your story?
- 18:20Speaker 3: Many, many younger years in Louisville, Kentucky.
- 18:24Speaker 5: Uh.
- 18:24Speaker 13: I won't blame it all on you. Decided I was
- 18:28Speaker 13: going to jump from the balcony. Phoenix Hill had a
- 18:32Speaker 13: balcony to watch the bands, but it kind of overlooked
- 18:36Speaker 13: the side of the stage.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I decided, and I know it hadn't been done.
- 18:40Speaker 13: Because I've been told by the security, which was high-fiving
- 18:44Speaker 13: me and actually not throwing me out afterwards, but I
- 18:48Speaker 13: asked him about it, not thinking he'd remember, but the
- 18:52Speaker 13: whole band stopped playing to look up at it.
- 18:55Speaker 3: I kind of like.
- 18:57Speaker 13: Straddled and climbed over the balcony's rail, stood on probably
- 19:04Speaker 13: a four inch ledge of the balcony and jumped a
- 19:08Speaker 13: full stride at about 27 years old, as far as
- 19:14Speaker 13: I could jump on the one foot, then the other
- 19:17Speaker 13: on top of their huge whatever stack. It wasn't a
- 19:22Speaker 13: Marshall stack. It was like a Grateful Dead stack. but
- 19:25Speaker 13: thinner and the top speaker cabinet wobbled the entire time from.
- 19:30Speaker 3: When my first foot landed.
- 19:32Speaker 13: Now you understand I've drank every kind of beer there
- 19:35Speaker 13: was there added the Jaeger Meister gave me the, you know,
- 19:40Speaker 13: the Jaeger courage to do that. But once the wobbling
- 19:44Speaker 13: was kind of like, I wouldn't cease it, but I
- 19:48Speaker 13: kind of got used to the wobbling. I made a
- 19:51Speaker 13: complete flip onto the audience. The audience was so packed.
- 19:56Speaker 13: It was such a big show that it didn't hurt anybody.
- 19:58Speaker 13: And I didn't get punched. I got applauded and back
- 20:01Speaker 13: slapped all the time. And the entire band had stopped
- 20:05Speaker 13: playing to just like, you could just hear silence, a
- 20:08Speaker 13: pin drop. and watch me because they probably thought a
- 20:12Speaker 13: speaker cabinet was going to go crush whatever member was
- 20:15Speaker 13: standing underneath it and they saw it from the balcony
- 20:18Speaker 13: because everyone's head turned up there because that was the
- 20:21Speaker 13: biggest part he even said was leaping to their speakers
- 20:25Speaker 13: but I had done similar stuff at punk rock shows
- 20:28Speaker 13: and seen older dudes do it but a 27 year
- 20:31Speaker 13: old years old seen Guar a couple of times I
- 20:36Speaker 13: don't know what got into me.
- 20:37Speaker 10: And from then on, Much of alcohol.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 14: Sorry.
- 20:41Speaker 9: Sorry.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Sorry. Yeah.
- 20:43Speaker 13: And the deal is that Phoenix Hill, Thunderdome, from then on,
- 20:48Speaker 13: had security guards up on that balcony to prevent any
- 20:53Speaker 13: of that kind of stuff. But he remembered it when
- 20:56Speaker 13: I got a little bit into the story. And he
- 20:58Speaker 13: even signed Nice Landing in his name.
- 21:02Speaker 3: And so I was like.
- 21:05Speaker 13: Dude yeah dude so i was really chuffed you know
- 21:09Speaker 13: i'll put it i'll put it in my uh photo
- 21:13Speaker 13: album right next to jason jesse's you know boxer briefs
- 21:17Speaker 13: signed you know.
- 21:18Speaker 7: Oh wow otter so it's pretty awesome i have to
- 21:21Speaker 7: say he's.
- 21:21Speaker 10: Not i've recognized him outside of outfit because no no.
- 21:24Speaker 7: Not at all he was making fun of how like
- 21:27Speaker 7: normal he was he was making fun of.
- 21:29Speaker 9: His hair like So, yeah, I guess he realizes he's
- 21:32Speaker 9: not quite the same.
- 21:33Speaker 10: Did he pull his hair? I don't even remember.
- 21:34Speaker 9: He said he had John Ritter hair.
- 21:36Speaker 7: So, I guess he realizes he's quite different outside of
- 21:40Speaker 7: the costume.
- 21:41Speaker 13: And there's an urban legend, and I'm not bashing.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I live in Louisville, Kentucky.
- 21:46Speaker 13: But there's an urban legend that him or one member
- 21:49Speaker 13: from GWAR is from Louisville, Kentucky. Well, he dated a
- 21:55Speaker 13: girl there for the longest time is the truth of
- 21:58Speaker 13: the crux of the biscuit, so to speak.
- 22:00Speaker 10: So.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Basically, they always played there.
- 22:03Speaker 13: They had a big following there, and they made regular stops,
- 22:06Speaker 13: and he had a girlfriend there.
- 22:07Speaker 3: So it wasn't that one of them had.
- 22:08Speaker 13: Gone to college or wound up residing there after college.
- 22:13Speaker 13: It was actually he dated a girl there was the
- 22:15Speaker 13: truth of the urban legend about a member of Guar
- 22:19Speaker 13: living supposedly in Louisville, Kentucky, I found out as well.
- 22:23Speaker 9: Rock kids have nothing else to do. They just kind
- 22:25Speaker 9: of make that stuff up.
- 22:26Speaker 10: Yeah, he was really cool. Everybody from, was it Holliston?
- 22:30Speaker 9: Yes, Holliston.
- 22:32Speaker 10: They all seemed really cool, and they were signed for free,
- 22:34Speaker 10: which not a lot of people do that, so that
- 22:36Speaker 10: was pretty cool.
- 22:37Speaker 9: That's Adam's thing, man.
- 22:38Speaker 7: He's like, no offense to anybody who charges, I just
- 22:42Speaker 7: don't think it's right. These are my fans, and I
- 22:45Speaker 7: want to do whatever I can do for them.
- 22:47Speaker 9: That's awesome.
- 22:47Speaker 10: As long as he maintains that mentality.
- 22:49Speaker 9: I think so. I think that's just kind of how
- 22:52Speaker 9: he is.
- 22:53Speaker 10: As long as we didn't have to worry about the
- 22:54Speaker 10: line from, was it twisted?
- 22:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 22:57Speaker 10: I'm glad we didn't even have to see the actual band.
- 22:59Speaker 10: They were hiding in some little room, I guess?
- 23:01Speaker 9: They had their own little magical area.
- 23:04Speaker 10: Was it Clowny Daggers, y'all?
- 23:06Speaker 1: Was it Clowny Daggers, y'all?
- 23:07Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Maybe they had their own twisted lows or something. I
- 23:11Speaker 1: don't know.
- 23:12Speaker 11: Whatever.
- 23:13Speaker 10: They were out the door. They were lined up out
- 23:16Speaker 10: the door, down the hallway, and out the other door.
- 23:18Speaker 1: What's a juggalo equivalent of a twisted groupie?
- 23:23Speaker 13: Probably the same members from ICP with different makeups.
- 23:28Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 23:29Speaker 13: ICP may not be at the top of their game
- 23:31Speaker 13: right now, and I may be over-exaggerating that.
- 23:34Speaker 10: Didn't they do a country album?
- 23:37Speaker 3: Huh?
- 23:38Speaker 10: ICP did a country album?
- 23:41Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 23:41Speaker 1: They're, like, way off my radar.
- 23:43Speaker 6: Oh, my.
- 23:44Speaker 7: The one guy that's like amazing movies now too so
- 23:48Speaker 7: i'm being facetious by the way after having.
- 23:50Speaker 10: To dodge all those fans other than that it was
- 23:53Speaker 10: really good i mean it wasn't over hot this year
- 23:55Speaker 10: like it has been in the past the ac seemed
- 23:58Speaker 10: a little bit better.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Ac worked the light stayed on the light.
- 24:02Speaker 7: Stayed on i remember that too and really none of
- 24:04Speaker 7: the lines were like or at least i don't know
- 24:07Speaker 7: i i I was trying to avoid most lines, but
- 24:09Speaker 7: even the ones we ended up in seemed like they
- 24:11Speaker 7: weren't as long as some of the other places.
- 24:14Speaker 9: They moved pretty quick. So, yeah, it was a fun day.
- 24:16Speaker 10: Except for Rowdy Roddy Piper's, which part of his was
- 24:18Speaker 10: the fact that he didn't show up until 1 o'clock.
- 24:21Speaker 10: You know, so it's like people were waiting in line
- 24:23Speaker 10: from like 11 o'clock in the morning, and he shows
- 24:26Speaker 10: up at 1, you know.
- 24:27Speaker 9: He had to go take Jake Busey to get ice cream.
- 24:29Speaker 9: What do you want, man?
- 24:31Speaker 10: Somebody had to do it.
- 24:32Speaker 9: Dad won't do it.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Dad won't do it.
- 24:34Speaker 10: I would have taken Jake Busey after ice cream. For
- 24:37Speaker 10: no other reason than to watch his teeth eat. It'd
- 24:41Speaker 10: be funny, don't lie.
- 24:42Speaker 9: It's not creepy at all.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Maybe get Eddie Monster to tag along, too.
- 24:49Speaker 7: We do need to get Butch. I think he's going
- 24:51Speaker 7: to be at one of the next shows. Yeah, we
- 24:52Speaker 7: need to get him to sit down.
- 24:53Speaker 10: How much did Todd offer me to go lick Gary
- 24:56Speaker 10: Busey's teeth?
- 24:58Speaker 9: I think it was at least $ 100. I was.
- 25:01Speaker 10: Like, I'll give you $ 100 if you go lick Gary
- 25:04Speaker 10: Busey's teeth. Just go up and go, I don't know,
- 25:09Speaker 10: you might like it.
- 25:10Speaker 9: Todd's a very sick man.
- 25:12Speaker 10: If he ever wants to show you yearbook pictures, say no.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Just say no. Or his Rush pictures.
- 25:19Speaker 9: Or any pictures out of his wallet.
- 25:21Speaker 10: Don't ever look in Todd's wallet.
- 25:22Speaker 9: Why he has those pictures in his wallet, I don't
- 25:24Speaker 9: want to know.
- 25:25Speaker 10: I think Bill missed that whole segment.
- 25:29Speaker 9: Yeah, he was.
- 25:30Speaker 1: You were lucky enough you were wandering around. You didn't
- 25:33Speaker 1: have to see the pictures in his wallet.
- 25:35Speaker 10: Laminated pictures.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yeah, laminated. He felt the need to preserve them.
- 25:40Speaker 10: For posterity.
- 25:42Speaker 9: That's what you want to call it.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Keep him from getting stained.
- 25:45Speaker 12: Gross.
- 25:47Speaker 10: But, no, I mean, everybody there seemed pretty cool, aside
- 25:49Speaker 10: from Leta Ford giving boyfriend the stink eye. She was
- 25:53Speaker 10: not too pleased with you.
- 25:55Speaker 9: I even smiled at her.
- 25:55Speaker 1: What the hell?
- 25:56Speaker 9: Apparently, you're creepy.
- 25:57Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't give her the creepy smile.
- 26:00Speaker 10: I've seen your creepy smile.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I did not give her the creepy smile.
- 26:04Speaker 10: No, I wasn't there.
- 26:04Speaker 9: I don't know what you did.
- 26:05Speaker 10: You might have accidentally given her the creepy smile.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I just gave the slight grin.
- 26:08Speaker 10: That's pretty creepy.
- 26:09Speaker 1: It's not creepy. I just kind of, hey, how's it going?
- 26:13Speaker 10: Yeah, that's creepy.
- 26:15Speaker 9: Whatever.
- 26:17Speaker 10: Trying to hook up with Leader 4 behind my back.
- 26:19Speaker 15: No.
- 26:21Speaker 9: Put the moves on me.
- 26:22Speaker 5: No.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Maybe 20 years ago, but not now.
- 26:30Speaker 10: But yeah, I mean, it wasn't too bad. It was
- 26:32Speaker 10: kind of crowded down at the end where the sword
- 26:35Speaker 10: swallower was going on. But other than that, I mean,
- 26:37Speaker 10: it didn't seem too bad.
- 26:38Speaker 3: I mean.
- 26:40Speaker 10: I didn't have any trouble getting down the aisles or anything.
- 26:42Speaker 10: The vendor booth was really cool. The vendor booths were
- 26:45Speaker 10: really interesting.
- 26:47Speaker 13: There was a lot to see, but large enough stuff
- 26:52Speaker 13: to pick through to really find something for real cool,
- 26:56Speaker 13: you know, really cool for a decent pick. Like I said,
- 27:01Speaker 13: I don't generally spend that much time at those kind
- 27:04Speaker 13: of events or like a, car show or something like
- 27:07Speaker 13: that on my feet but like that was worth walking
- 27:11Speaker 13: around all day even at stars that you know my
- 27:17Speaker 13: friends liked meeting them seeing them talk UC Sun I
- 27:22Speaker 13: mean a lot of that stuff just made my day
- 27:25Speaker 13: like I said it was completely completely worth the do
- 27:30Speaker 13: and only a couple of those shows it was by
- 27:32Speaker 13: far the better one but I guess that all hinges on.
- 27:36Speaker 3: On Danny Trail for me.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Good start. You're going to be riding the Danny wave
- 27:42Speaker 1: for the next year, I think. Oh, yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 3: If I can get you off it. You've been on
- 27:47Speaker 3: it for the past couple of breaks. So, you know,
- 27:52Speaker 3: my wave now, buddy.
- 27:54Speaker 9: Riding the Danny wave.
- 27:56Speaker 10: I was just glad he showed up. I was, like,
- 27:57Speaker 10: really worried. Because I'm like... Then again, they added him
- 28:00Speaker 10: kind of... It was, like, not really last minute. But
- 28:01Speaker 10: it was kind of, like, close to the date that
- 28:04Speaker 10: they added him. So, I figure... Because they added some
- 28:06Speaker 10: before that they were already on the list for a
- 28:09Speaker 10: long time. Then they kind of canceled towards the end.
- 28:11Speaker 10: But I figured if they added him so late, that
- 28:12Speaker 10: it would be a less chance for him to cancel.
- 28:14Speaker 10: So I kept checking the Facebook page. I'm like, Bill's
- 28:17Speaker 10: going to be so mad if he cancels.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 1: That was my heartache. How long ago was that? Was
- 28:24Speaker 1: it a year ago or two years ago? No, it
- 28:26Speaker 1: was last year. See, I'm still hurting from that one,
- 28:30Speaker 1: but now it's all good.
- 28:31Speaker 3: It's all good.
- 28:32Speaker 9: Yeah, because he was going to make it.
- 28:34Speaker 1: He was going to make it, and what was it?
- 28:38Speaker 1: Something happened, and they had to stay over late filming...
- 28:42Speaker 1: Son's Anarchy. Son's Anarchy. So they would have had to
- 28:45Speaker 1: fly him out there for a couple hours, then fly
- 28:48Speaker 1: him right back home to do filming on the movie.
- 28:52Speaker 1: So he ended up just canceling.
- 28:55Speaker 13: He's probably right on a plane to go film right now.
- 28:58Speaker 3: From what I've understood and the way he... I mean, like.
- 29:05Speaker 3: We already went through all that.
- 29:06Speaker 13: He just seems like all around like put 100% into everything,
- 29:11Speaker 13: meeting the fans and getting to the filming, you know.
- 29:15Speaker 13: Serious multitasker and then something.
- 29:19Speaker 9: And has been for years. A whole big career.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think he's ever slowed down if he's
- 29:25Speaker 1: not working as a stuntman or a bad guy number three.
- 29:30Speaker 9: Henchman.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Hinchman, stunt coordinator, fight coordinator.
- 29:34Speaker 9: Prisoner.
- 29:36Speaker 10: Being on Spy Kids.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Yeah, being on Spy Kids.
- 29:39Speaker 3: The New Gardener.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Yeah, The New Gardener, TV shows, stuff like that. Yeah,
- 29:44Speaker 1: I think he's just gotten.
- 29:45Speaker 7: Continually busier and busier as time goes on.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Helping out with his NA group and stuff like that.
- 29:51Speaker 1: I think the time we went to see him, he
- 29:53Speaker 1: got a call from somebody, and he was like, hey, man,
- 29:55Speaker 1: can you hold on just a second? I've got to
- 29:57Speaker 1: take this call. And then he was talking to somebody,
- 30:01Speaker 1: and then he was like, I was one of the
- 30:02Speaker 1: guys in my NA group. He said, he kind of
- 30:04Speaker 1: talked to me about it a little bit. And I
- 30:05Speaker 1: was like, no, totally, it's fine. You know, I mean,
- 30:07Speaker 1: I think it's awesome that you would actually take the
- 30:10Speaker 1: time and just be kind of like, hey, hold on.
- 30:12Speaker 1: I got to talk to this guy real quick. You know,
- 30:14Speaker 1: and it means you care, you know.
- 30:16Speaker 4: So.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Yeah, man, he always takes care of his nephew, you
- 30:21Speaker 3: know what I mean? That's awesome. In case you wondered,
- 30:24Speaker 3: that's Jay's uncle.

- 36:14Speaker 7: Machete.
- 36:15Speaker 11: It's part of your problem, you know, you haven't seen
- 36:18Speaker 11: enough movies.
- 36:19Speaker 3: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 36:21Speaker 6: And now, on with the show.
- 36:23Speaker 4: Tired of hiding Always on the run In a.
- 36:25Speaker 6: Living nightmare Doomsday has come.
- 36:40Speaker 12: The dead showed up as if All they started for
- 36:48Speaker 12: best This undead army Reduced the world to end These
- 36:56Speaker 12: are the days of the dead These.
- 37:01Speaker 6: Are the.
- 37:04Speaker 12: Days of the dead These are the days.
- 37:07Speaker 6: Of the dead We shall walk.
- 37:18Speaker 9: The earth.
- 37:42Speaker 10: The one with the zombies. Who did the review that
- 37:45Speaker 10: somebody did on Zombie Movie?
- 37:47Speaker 9: Not World War Z? No, the other one. The love story. Oh.
- 37:52Speaker 10: Warm Bodies.
- 37:52Speaker 9: Yes, Warm Bodies.
- 37:53Speaker 10: We watched Warm Bodies.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Yeah, we watched that. I liked it.
- 37:56Speaker 10: It was ridiculous.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Yeah, you can't take it seriously, but it's pretty funny.
- 37:59Speaker 1: It's pretty good.
- 38:00Speaker 10: It's just ridiculous is what it was. I mean, seriously,
- 38:02Speaker 10: the zombie falls in love and it brings him back
- 38:04Speaker 10: to life. Really?
- 38:06Speaker 7: It's one of those you've got to get on board
- 38:08Speaker 7: with that idea. Like, it's... I mean, the whole thing...
- 38:12Speaker 7: even zombies at this point, you know, it's sort of preposterous,
- 38:15Speaker 7: I suppose. So you have to take it one step
- 38:17Speaker 7: further and be like, Oh, and now we can fix
- 38:20Speaker 7: them with love.
- 38:21Speaker 10: I think I gave my brief review when I read
- 38:22Speaker 10: the book.
- 38:23Speaker 9: Yeah, he actually did. I think he gave it on
- 38:25Speaker 9: the show.
- 38:26Speaker 10: I'm going to stick with that. It's kind of ridiculous.
- 38:30Speaker 9: We, we encourage many other people's opinions.
- 38:33Speaker 10: It's fun. I'm not saying it's bad.
- 38:35Speaker 9: It's just ridiculous. The one on the website is actually
- 38:38Speaker 9: very different. So, uh, yeah, go, uh, movie meltdown.com. Go
- 38:42Speaker 9: to the written reviews.
- 38:42Speaker 7: There's actually a Cameron Roday review on it that's actually
- 38:46Speaker 7: very different than I expected. I didn't even know what
- 38:48Speaker 7: he was going to come up with, and it's kind
- 38:50Speaker 7: of caught me off guard.
- 38:51Speaker 9: It's a different take on that. So, yeah, go check
- 38:54Speaker 9: it out. It's interesting.
- 38:57Speaker 10: Oh, jumping Jesus on a pogo stick. We watched that
- 38:59Speaker 10: Nicolas Cage movie.
- 39:00Speaker 9: Oh, holy shit.
- 39:00Speaker 1: That's what I was going to talk about. We watched
- 39:04Speaker 1: Nicolas Cage's Vampire's Kiss. classic oh my god if you
- 39:10Speaker 1: want to watch a movie of just bad shit craziness
- 39:13Speaker 1: that movie is just nuts and it's nicholas cage nuts
- 39:17Speaker 1: and that was early.
- 39:18Speaker 10: That is nutty nuttiest yeah.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Nutty nuttiest and basically what it is is about a
- 39:22Speaker 1: guy who who's kind of he's going crazy.
- 39:25Speaker 10: He's very unstable and already seen a therapist Yeah.
- 39:29Speaker 1: He's already seen a therapist. And so he somehow has
- 39:33Speaker 1: this weird sexual fixation with this bat. And somehow in
- 39:39Speaker 1: his mind, he's been bitten by a vampire bat. And
- 39:43Speaker 1: so now he thinks he's a vampire.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:46Speaker 7: You run around saying, I'm a vampire, I'm a vampire,
- 39:48Speaker 7: I'm a vampire.
- 39:48Speaker 9: Yes, he does.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 39:49Speaker 1: If anything, if you would just get on YouTube and
- 39:53Speaker 1: watch the best scenes. Yeah, there's a clip.
- 39:57Speaker 9: It's crazy.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Of Vampire's Kiss. I mean, we watched, it came on,
- 40:01Speaker 1: what did it come on?
- 40:03Speaker 3: This?
- 40:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it came on this network. We don't have cable.
- 40:05Speaker 1: We canceled our cable. This is pretty damn cool. Misty
- 40:09Speaker 1: was like, what the hell is this? And I was like,
- 40:11Speaker 1: I don't know. But it's got Nicolas Cage in it.
- 40:14Speaker 10: And I hate Nicolas Cage.
- 40:15Speaker 1: She's like, oh, my God, he's fucking nuts. And I
- 40:18Speaker 1: was like, we've got to watch this. So we found
- 40:20Speaker 1: it on YouTube. If you look, the full version of
- 40:22Speaker 1: the movie is on YouTube. You can sit and watch
- 40:25Speaker 1: it if you can make it through it.
- 40:28Speaker 10: You have to make it through it just to see
- 40:30Speaker 10: what he does next.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's pretty crazy. It's got a, what's her name?
- 40:34Speaker 10: Jennifer Beals.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Jennifer Beals in Skippy Little Lingerie.
- 40:39Speaker 10: Flashdance Girl, right?
- 40:40Speaker 3: Yes.
- 40:41Speaker 10: You always get her and Jessica Beals mixed up, which
- 40:43Speaker 10: is not at all Flashdance Girl.
- 40:44Speaker 9: That is not the same person, no.
- 40:47Speaker 1: But yeah, it's a very 80s kind of yuppie Wall Street.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Kind of reminds me a little bit of American Psycho
- 40:57Speaker 1: in a way, but not so much.
- 41:02Speaker 9: If they were crazy.
- 41:03Speaker 10: Yeah. American Psycho had vampires.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:07Speaker 9: And Nicolas Cage.
- 41:08Speaker 6: And bats.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Yeah, he's not going around killing people with chainsaws, but
- 41:11Speaker 1: he's just fucking nuts.
- 41:13Speaker 9: He's crazy.
- 41:14Speaker 10: Gnawing on their necks with little plastic vampire teeth yeah
- 41:18Speaker 10: but you.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Do that too come on yeah yeah so that's pretty
- 41:22Speaker 1: crazy it's a crazy movie definitely uh i think in
- 41:26Speaker 1: the top 10 uh nicholas cage overacting bad shit crazy i.
- 41:31Speaker 10: Think this is in the top five if not the
- 41:33Speaker 10: number one it's well it's probably right behind like the
- 41:35Speaker 10: wicker man.
- 41:36Speaker 1: It's behind the wicker man but I don't know.
- 41:39Speaker 10: This one's more batshit nuts. I think this one might
- 41:42Speaker 10: very well top the list of batshit nuts Nicolas Cage movies.
- 41:46Speaker 9: It's sad that he has so many to choose from.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you're right.
- 41:50Speaker 9: And yet, can be a good actor. That's the scary part.
- 41:53Speaker 10: But have you seen this movie?
- 41:56Speaker 9: I'm familiar with it. It's been a long time, but yeah,
- 41:59Speaker 9: I realize how crazy he is.
- 42:00Speaker 10: Christ on a cracker. That movie's just ridiculous. Like I said,
- 42:04Speaker 10: I'm not a big fan of Nicolas Cage. Don't like him.
- 42:07Speaker 10: think he's ridiculous. But this is just so ridiculous that
- 42:10Speaker 10: you can't not enjoy yourself even if you hate him.
- 42:13Speaker 1: He was really normal in Valley Girl though. He played
- 42:16Speaker 1: a normal role in Valley Girl. He wasn't crazy. He
- 42:19Speaker 1: wasn't kooky. He wasn't any of that stuff. Except for
- 42:21Speaker 1: one point where there's like a part where he him
- 42:24Speaker 1: and his girlfriend break up and he goes and gets
- 42:28Speaker 1: drunk and then tries to start some stuff with these
- 42:32Speaker 1: guys and That's about the only nutty part of the movie.
- 42:39Speaker 1: But other than that, he plays a fairly normal role.
- 42:42Speaker 7: He can play, you know, relatively straight roles and can
- 42:45Speaker 7: deliver good performances, but it's... Kick-ass.
- 42:48Speaker 1: That small role that he had in Kick-Ass.
- 42:50Speaker 9: Yeah, he's so good in Kick-Ass.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Like, he can be.
- 42:52Speaker 9: And that one kind of gives you both.
- 42:54Speaker 7: Like, he can be very normal when he's being just
- 42:57Speaker 7: the dad and the cop, you know, or the former cop.
- 43:00Speaker 9: And then, like, the.
- 43:02Speaker 7: Later, when he gets in the costume, and he's kind
- 43:04Speaker 7: of overacting, but it's a very calculated overacting.
- 43:07Speaker 9: He knows he's doing it. Versus some of those other roles,
- 43:10Speaker 9: he just seems like he's crazy.
- 43:13Speaker 7: That one, he seems like he's totally in control of
- 43:15Speaker 7: how cheesy he's being when he's wearing the knockoff Batman suit.
- 43:19Speaker 10: He's lost all touch with reality in Vampire's Kiss, because
- 43:22Speaker 10: he decides to try to talk in an accent, but
- 43:25Speaker 10: he drops it half the time. But his accent is
- 43:28Speaker 10: his dad as a professor. I'm like, what? But then,
- 43:33Speaker 10: like I said, he loses the accent half the time,
- 43:34Speaker 10: so it switches back and forth between him having this weird, stuffy,
- 43:39Speaker 10: trying to sound like a teacher accent to regular Nicolas
- 43:42Speaker 10: Cage accent to just batshit nuts accent.
- 43:46Speaker 3: I guess.
- 43:47Speaker 1: And he tortures the hell out of what's-her-name. I can't
- 43:50Speaker 1: think of the girl's name right offhand.
- 43:52Speaker 10: His secretary girl? I can't think of her name either.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Crap, I can't think of her name now because.
- 43:57Speaker 10: He yells it at her so many times.
- 43:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:59Speaker 1: But yeah, he tortures the hell out of her. I
- 44:01Speaker 1: think he even rapes her at one point in the movie.
- 44:03Speaker 10: Does he actually or does she just think that he does?
- 44:05Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 44:08Speaker 1: I don't know because you never really know. I mean,
- 44:11Speaker 1: she kind of says it, but I don't know. They
- 44:16Speaker 1: don't really show it or anything.
- 44:18Speaker 10: He kisses her while she passes out, but then they
- 44:23Speaker 10: show him running off. So either he did it really
- 44:26Speaker 10: quick or she just thinks he did. I don't know.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 44:31Speaker 9: Who knows?
- 44:32Speaker 10: On a cheerful note.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I think that's all we watched. I don't remember watching
- 44:36Speaker 1: anything else.
- 44:37Speaker 14: I'm sure we have.
- 44:38Speaker 10: We just don't remember.
- 44:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 44:40Speaker 9: Well, I did see World War Z.
- 44:43Speaker 10: How was that?
- 44:45Speaker 7: Again, you guys have it, so I won't ruin it.
- 44:47Speaker 9: I won't go into any of that. It's just, it's
- 44:50Speaker 9: very strange. Like, to me, I guess the, there's, I guess,
- 44:53Speaker 9: two big criticisms I have with it. Because there's some
- 44:55Speaker 9: great stuff.
- 44:56Speaker 7: Like, that opening, like, 20, 30 minutes of the, you know,
- 45:00Speaker 7: everything falling apart is pretty amazing.
- 45:02Speaker 9: Like, there's so much that's well done about that.
- 45:06Speaker 7: But at the same time, number one, and this is
- 45:08Speaker 7: just me being, you know, horror nitpicky, I can feel
- 45:11Speaker 7: them backing off to PG-13. Like, for a movie about zombies,
- 45:16Speaker 7: you don't see anything. Like, it is so much, like,
- 45:20Speaker 7: watered down compared to Walking Dead.
- 45:22Speaker 9: And Walking Dead's on television, you know? Like, it is so...
- 45:26Speaker 9: really backed off so that they could bring in a
- 45:28Speaker 9: wider audience.
- 45:29Speaker 10: Is there no blood?
- 45:30Speaker 3: Do what?
- 45:30Speaker 10: Is there no blood?
- 45:32Speaker 11: Not much.
- 45:33Speaker 7: Like, I mean, it, it almost barely even shows you
- 45:35Speaker 7: any attacks. Like it just sort of cuts away from everything.
- 45:38Speaker 7: Like you at least kind of get what's going on,
- 45:41Speaker 7: but like it pulls back so much on those shots.
- 45:44Speaker 7: That I think it kind of hurts the movie. Like,
- 45:46Speaker 7: I feel like you're there for that. You need to
- 45:48Speaker 7: see that. Like, it even kind of cheapens the movie. Like,
- 45:51Speaker 7: if the world's falling apart, this is horrible. We kind
- 45:54Speaker 7: of need to see the horror so that we get it,
- 45:56Speaker 7: you know? If you make everything super nice and clean,
- 45:59Speaker 7: it's like it doesn't.
- 46:01Speaker 9: You don't get the full impact.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:03Speaker 9: So, I don't know.
- 46:04Speaker 7: I think that bothered me a lot just because I
- 46:07Speaker 7: felt like it needed that to some extent.
- 46:10Speaker 9: What I will say, it's cool, like.
- 46:13Speaker 7: it does become more of like, to me, as I
- 46:15Speaker 7: got into it, I was like, it's not even like
- 46:16Speaker 7: it's a zombie movie as much as it is almost
- 46:18Speaker 7: like an outbreak movie. Like it's almost him or just
- 46:22Speaker 7: like the movie outbreak or like one of those where
- 46:24Speaker 7: they're just trying to track down a virus and figure
- 46:26Speaker 7: out what happened and where it came from and how
- 46:29Speaker 7: do we deal with it?
- 46:29Speaker 9: And like, that's what it becomes.
- 46:31Speaker 7: It becomes almost like a detective movie for like the
- 46:33Speaker 7: whole middle section. And it's just Brad Pitt traveling around
- 46:36Speaker 7: to these different locations where, you know, this happened here
- 46:40Speaker 7: and how, you know, he starts trying to piece things together.
- 46:42Speaker 7: And then by the end, it becomes sort of a big,
- 46:45Speaker 7: more traditional set piece. It becomes more of a standard
- 46:48Speaker 7: zombie movie kind of thing. The only thing that the
- 46:52Speaker 7: other criticism I had was you also don't feel, you
- 46:55Speaker 7: don't feel connected to anybody. Like again, the zombie genre,
- 46:58Speaker 7: like that's what you get into is like, it's not
- 47:01Speaker 7: about the zombies. The zombies don't have any personality. You
- 47:03Speaker 7: attach yourself to the survivors and the people that are
- 47:06Speaker 7: fighting against the zombies. And like, there really isn't anybody
- 47:09Speaker 7: like all you get is Brad Pitt which don't get
- 47:11Speaker 7: me wrong Brad Pitt's awesome but like he also doesn't
- 47:15Speaker 7: have a whole lot of character in this like he.
- 47:17Speaker 10: You don't really care if he lives or dies.
- 47:19Speaker 9: I mean, you kind of know he's gonna because he's
- 47:21Speaker 9: Brad Pitt. Like, they're not going to kill him off.
- 47:23Speaker 9: He's Brad Pitt.
- 47:23Speaker 1: You just don't care.
- 47:24Speaker 10: You don't have that sense of urgency about it.
- 47:26Speaker 9: But, like, the other people.
- 47:27Speaker 7: Like, there's a few other people that get introduced along
- 47:29Speaker 7: the way, and you really don't care if they live
- 47:31Speaker 7: or die. And there's one, there is a chick that
- 47:33Speaker 7: comes in, like, midway through that was in the military,
- 47:35Speaker 7: and she's kind of cool. And you get, like, a
- 47:37Speaker 7: little bit of her story, and you think, you almost
- 47:39Speaker 7: feel like, oh, I wouldn't want her to die.
- 47:41Speaker 9: But, like, they don't expand on it at all.
- 47:43Speaker 7: So, like, really, as time goes on, you're like, I
- 47:45Speaker 7: kind of wish they would give us more with her.
- 47:47Speaker 9: Like I wish she just had a little more development.
- 47:49Speaker 7: So I think it's kind of cold as far as
- 47:52Speaker 7: the people go, but I think again, it's good enough
- 47:56Speaker 7: to watch and enjoy. And like, I think that again,
- 47:59Speaker 7: that opening scene is amazing and the CG is not
- 48:03Speaker 7: quite as bad as I was fearing. I was hoping
- 48:05Speaker 7: there was really bad zombie stuff, but you see it
- 48:07Speaker 7: in 3d. Uh, no, thank you. I, I don't need
- 48:10Speaker 7: any of that nonsense.
- 48:11Speaker 3: I haven't seen it.
- 48:13Speaker 13: Um, the, Two friends that I have gave pretty much
- 48:18Speaker 13: an equivalent description of what you said. The impression that
- 48:23Speaker 13: I kind of am getting from this, it's kind of
- 48:25Speaker 13: like some Tom Cruise movies that it's a darn good story.
- 48:30Speaker 13: He plays a darn good character. But then again, it's
- 48:34Speaker 13: like you're always reminded in the film that that's super dude,
- 48:38Speaker 13: Tom Cruise. It's like he kind of steals the spotlight.
- 48:43Speaker 13: And his character's larger than the plot at hand. He's like,
- 48:48Speaker 13: there's no way that he's going to come out of there,
- 48:52Speaker 13: you know, even scratched to a degree of, you know,
- 48:56Speaker 13: it just being complete savior.
- 49:00Speaker 7: Yeah, and again, I think probably even better than, you know,
- 49:04Speaker 7: some Tom Cruise movies he phones it in.
- 49:06Speaker 9: Sometimes he does give really good performances.
- 49:09Speaker 10: But you always know that he's like... the main thing
- 49:12Speaker 10: about the movie.
- 49:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:13Speaker 9: But like Brad Pitt, that's not true.
- 49:15Speaker 7: Like, you're hard pressed to find a bad Brad Pitt performance.
- 49:19Speaker 7: Even if he'll do bad movies on occasion or make
- 49:22Speaker 7: questionable judgment calls but like he never really phones it
- 49:25Speaker 7: in like he's always really good but again this one
- 49:29Speaker 7: I don't blame him as much as just the way
- 49:30Speaker 7: it's written it's like it's written that he's got this
- 49:33Speaker 7: mysterious past so we don't know anything about him because
- 49:36Speaker 7: of that in the and then, like, he gets sent
- 49:40Speaker 7: out on this mission, and it doesn't really expand on
- 49:43Speaker 7: that any, he's still, like, this just mysterious dude trying
- 49:45Speaker 7: to track things down, and so, I don't know, I
- 49:48Speaker 7: think it's interesting, but, yeah, it's not, it's far from perfect,
- 49:53Speaker 7: they definitely set it up so that they could do
- 49:55Speaker 7: more down the line, so I'm kind of interested to
- 49:57Speaker 7: see if they, well, I already know they've already greenlit
- 50:00Speaker 7: the sequel, because it made so much money, so, They're
- 50:02Speaker 7: doing something with it.
- 50:04Speaker 13: Did you feel a lot of it was like that
- 50:07Speaker 13: and at that audience directed at a certain younger audience
- 50:13Speaker 13: that might really be based on the ticket turnout?
- 50:21Speaker 7: I think that's definitely why they backed off the violence
- 50:23Speaker 7: to make sure they kept.
- 50:25Speaker 9: It at PG-13.
- 50:25Speaker 10: So they could get in the younger crowds.
- 50:27Speaker 9: Yeah, so they could get a.
- 50:28Speaker 7: Because, again, zombies are so popular now that, like, you
- 50:31Speaker 7: could really bring in a lot. But to me, it's
- 50:33Speaker 7: like if you're into zombie movies, almost all the zombie
- 50:36Speaker 7: movies you're watching are already.
- 50:38Speaker 9: So you're not... doing anything.
- 50:40Speaker 7: Everybody that's going to go see it, more than likely,
- 50:42Speaker 7: is already watching stuff that's way more gory.
- 50:44Speaker 9: So, I don't understand that.
- 50:45Speaker 10: It's like the child-friendly zombie movie?
- 50:47Speaker 9: Yeah, kind of.
- 50:49Speaker 1: It's like the starter kit to zombies?
- 50:51Speaker 9: It kind of is.
- 50:51Speaker 7: It's one of those you can almost show to a
- 50:53Speaker 7: kid that's kind of right, you know, whatever, again, I
- 50:56Speaker 7: would say, I would name a number, but it's kind
- 50:58Speaker 7: of changed over the years.
- 50:59Speaker 9: They're much younger now than it probably used to be.
- 51:01Speaker 7: So, that kid that's like right at the point where
- 51:03Speaker 7: you're thinking, they might be okay with this. So, the
- 51:07Speaker 7: only other thing I was going to say that's weird is,
- 51:08Speaker 7: I I don't know if I've ever seen a zombie
- 51:10Speaker 7: movie that changes the way the zombies operate in the
- 51:14Speaker 7: same movie.
- 51:16Speaker 9: And isn't just doing it badly.
- 51:18Speaker 7: Because I've seen super Z budget movies that just did
- 51:21Speaker 7: it because they were stupid and they weren't paying attention.
- 51:24Speaker 7: But this one, they are beyond fast zombies in the beginning.
- 51:29Speaker 9: They are cheetah speed. Super speed.
- 51:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:31Speaker 1: See, that's the thing. I understand why they do that
- 51:35Speaker 1: because they want to make the zombies appear more deadly.
- 51:38Speaker 14: And frightening intimidating when they're fast and and it's a
- 51:41Speaker 14: virus more or less so it's to call it a
- 51:44Speaker 14: zombie movie you know it's like i'm sorry i don't
- 51:48Speaker 14: like my zombies to run because that doesn't make any
- 51:50Speaker 14: fucking sense you're dying you're dead Your flesh is decaying.
- 51:54Speaker 1: It doesn't give you superhuman speed and strength.
- 51:57Speaker 7: It depends on if you're counting it as a zombie. Because, like,
- 51:59Speaker 7: the 28 Days Later thing is the same thing. It's
- 52:01Speaker 7: a virus, so technically.
- 52:02Speaker 1: They're not even dead. Well, then why call it World
- 52:04Speaker 1: War Z and not World War V for virus?
- 52:08Speaker 7: Yeah, they do say that they're zombies, and I guess,
- 52:11Speaker 7: I mean, it's so quick. That's something that's kind of cool. Like,
- 52:13Speaker 7: in that opening scene, he starts timing it out, and
- 52:16Speaker 7: you've got about a 12-second period between when you get
- 52:19Speaker 7: bitten and when you turn. So it's not like you
- 52:22Speaker 7: sit there for an hour and then you come back
- 52:23Speaker 7: from the dead.
- 52:24Speaker 9: It's immediate.
- 52:26Speaker 7: And that's why that opening scene is awesome because you
- 52:28Speaker 7: see it just hitting this crowd of people and it's
- 52:31Speaker 7: just one to the next. And then that person starts
- 52:34Speaker 7: eating somebody and then that person. So it takes over
- 52:37Speaker 7: the crowd.
- 52:37Speaker 13: Yeah, that's also the attention span of most kids pre-teenage
- 52:41Speaker 13: as well.
- 52:42Speaker 6: You're right.
- 52:43Speaker 9: That's probably it.
- 52:44Speaker 7: 12 seconds and then I've got to check my phone
- 52:47Speaker 7: or start playing a video game.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's probably what it is.
- 52:50Speaker 7: So, yeah, that might be some of it, too. But
- 52:52Speaker 7: I think that's an interesting aspect to it, yeah.
- 52:55Speaker 10: I heard a lot of the most complaints about it
- 52:56Speaker 10: was it not matching up with the book at all.
- 52:59Speaker 7: Oh, I mean, it doesn't even pretend to. I mean,
- 53:01Speaker 7: the book isn't even a through line. It's a bunch
- 53:04Speaker 7: of short stories that are just told from different people's
- 53:08Speaker 7: perspectives after, like, years after the outbreak, basically.
- 53:12Speaker 6: Gotcha.
- 53:12Speaker 7: And then this is, you know, they basically bought that
- 53:14Speaker 7: rough idea and went, okay, well, we've got Brad Pitt.
- 53:17Speaker 9: We're putting Brad Pitt in every scene.
- 53:19Speaker 7: So then they just create this character and this through
- 53:21Speaker 7: line of him trying to figure things out. And he
- 53:23Speaker 7: does go to some of the other countries that they
- 53:26Speaker 7: visit in the book. But, yeah, I think they don't
- 53:28Speaker 7: even pretend to be anything close to what the Max
- 53:32Speaker 7: Brooks wrote.
- 53:32Speaker 10: I just heard a lot of people complaining about that, though.
- 53:34Speaker 10: I don't think I knew quite exactly what the book was.
- 53:36Speaker 10: I've never read the book.
- 53:37Speaker 9: Book people like to be whiny, is my opinion.
- 53:40Speaker 10: Sometimes they're justified.
- 53:41Speaker 9: No, I'm just like, just read the book then. The
- 53:43Speaker 9: book's right there. Go read the book. Like, I understand.
- 53:45Speaker 7: I get mad that they bought the property and don't
- 53:47Speaker 7: want to make that story. But with this one, it's
- 53:50Speaker 7: just like Hollywood would not make a bunch of short movies.
- 53:54Speaker 9: You know, it's like you can do that with indie movies, maybe.
- 53:56Speaker 9: But with some.
- 53:58Speaker 10: Things, I understand some things having some more leeway because
- 54:01Speaker 10: that would be too hard to make a movie. But
- 54:04Speaker 10: certain things will just stop because.
- 54:07Speaker 9: It'll be in a big argument. No, I mean, I
- 54:09Speaker 9: don't care.
- 54:10Speaker 7: I'm just saying I can't imagine Hollywood making that story
- 54:14Speaker 7: the way that the people who like the book would
- 54:16Speaker 7: approve of it.
- 54:16Speaker 10: No, I'm just saying that there are other books and
- 54:18Speaker 10: other properties that get... Never mind.
- 54:21Speaker 3: There are.
- 54:22Speaker 7: I mean, they do make dumb decisions sometimes. I don't pretend,
- 54:25Speaker 7: but again, to me, it's just a separate thing. The
- 54:27Speaker 7: book is the book, and they're going to make their
- 54:30Speaker 7: changes when they make the movie.
- 54:31Speaker 10: I just think that when you have a property that
- 54:33Speaker 10: is popular and famous and has a lot of source
- 54:35Speaker 10: material to go and change everything to make it either more...
- 54:38Speaker 10: controversial or.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Or mass-friendly.
- 54:44Speaker 9: That's probably more what they normally do.
- 54:46Speaker 10: Not even mass-friendly to make it more like, ooh, can
- 54:48Speaker 10: you believe they did that?
- 54:49Speaker 1: I understand what you're talking about. Like the whole deal
- 54:52Speaker 1: with True Blood.
- 54:53Speaker 3: More palatable.
- 54:55Speaker 10: No, they made it more unpalatable just to make it more.
- 54:58Speaker 1: They'll look around, see what's going on in the world today,
- 55:03Speaker 1: like what's in the news, and then try to work
- 55:05Speaker 1: something in along the storylines. to try to shock and
- 55:09Speaker 1: offend people to get them to watch it. To be like,
- 55:12Speaker 1: oh my God, I can't believe they did that.
- 55:14Speaker 6: Okay.
- 55:16Speaker 13: Rather than just stuff so far out that it's in
- 55:20Speaker 13: the zombie world, not in the younger kids' world of
- 55:24Speaker 13: today of bullying. That's just a reaching out of the
- 55:28Speaker 13: blue type of thing.
- 55:30Speaker 3: Bring a relevant.
- 55:31Speaker 10: Element to it.
- 55:32Speaker 7: Well, some do that too. I mean, it can be
- 55:35Speaker 7: done the right way. it's a fine line because again,
- 55:38Speaker 7: you look at like, again, not exactly a movie, but
- 55:41Speaker 7: you look at what they, what they did with the
- 55:42Speaker 7: walking dead and just giving it a totally, like it
- 55:46Speaker 7: will just veer off and you will add characters and
- 55:48Speaker 7: you will, characters will take a totally different story arc.
- 55:51Speaker 7: And like, so it, in that way it almost makes
- 55:53Speaker 7: it work better for them from both ends. Because then
- 55:57Speaker 7: if you want to watch the show, you can watch
- 55:58Speaker 7: the show. If you want to read the comic, you
- 56:00Speaker 7: can read the comic and it kind of makes you
- 56:01Speaker 7: do both.
- 56:02Speaker 10: It's like, And that one doesn't bother me.
- 56:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 56:04Speaker 7: Well, see, again, that's one that's done it kind of
- 56:06Speaker 7: the right way. I think that's a really smart way
- 56:08Speaker 7: that they went about that.
- 56:10Speaker 11: Whereas.
- 56:10Speaker 9: They've made it more interesting.
- 56:11Speaker 10: They've added things and they've, you know.
- 56:14Speaker 9: Tweaked it. And to me, it's not killing.
- 56:16Speaker 7: Because that's what I always think is so many people
- 56:17Speaker 7: in dumb America, no offense to us, but, you know,
- 56:20Speaker 7: I'm one of them, will do one or the other.
- 56:23Speaker 9: Like, you know, it's like, well, I already read the book.
- 56:24Speaker 9: I don't need to see that.
- 56:25Speaker 7: Or more accurately, I don't need to read the book
- 56:28Speaker 7: because I've seen the movie.
- 56:29Speaker 9: And I think if you.
- 56:31Speaker 7: Bother to make it different in a way it makes
- 56:33Speaker 7: you go oh well now i kind of want to
- 56:34Speaker 7: go get the book or i want to have.
- 56:36Speaker 10: Some similarities in character because you you like these characters
- 56:40Speaker 10: from one or the other or you won't care about
- 56:42Speaker 10: finding out further stuff you know it's like yeah but
- 56:44Speaker 10: if you get to the point where you hate the
- 56:46Speaker 10: character you don't want to see what else they're fucking
- 56:47Speaker 10: doing because you want them to fucking die that's when
- 56:50Speaker 10: they've taken it too far whereas you know walking dead's
- 56:52Speaker 10: done it right true blood said it horribly wrong I
- 56:55Speaker 10: don't know.
- 56:56Speaker 9: It's a fine line.
- 56:57Speaker 7: Again, they are always going to do that with books
- 57:00Speaker 7: and movies, so I don't know.
- 57:01Speaker 13: Hey, and apparently the Walking Dead formula, which isn't necessarily
- 57:07Speaker 13: the Hollywood, you know, the ticket booth formula, has done
- 57:14Speaker 13: incredibly well at whatever they're doing, if that doesn't speak
- 57:18Speaker 13: for something, you know, rather than this complete, you know,
- 57:22Speaker 13: change that we're talking about, this different approach.
- 57:26Speaker 10: Or their popularity has exploded yeah oh my god go
- 57:30Speaker 10: to a convention where the walking like anybody from the
- 57:32Speaker 10: walking dead is and it's it's ridiculous they.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Almost need to split off and get their own convention
- 57:39Speaker 1: it's kind of getting to that point it's getting to
- 57:41Speaker 1: that zombie walks.
- 57:42Speaker 10: Are all over the world now almost every state has
- 57:44Speaker 10: a zombie walk if not every city and it's it
- 57:47Speaker 10: is it's it's incredibly popular And.
- 57:50Speaker 9: Not just popular, like mainstream popular.
- 57:52Speaker 1: Yeah, they have the zombie runs. I think there's a
- 57:55Speaker 1: gun range down from where we live that's having the
- 57:58Speaker 1: zombie shoot, where they've got a bunch of zombie, I
- 58:03Speaker 1: don't know if anybody's familiar, they've got zombie targets that bleed. Oh, yeah. Yeah,
- 58:09Speaker 1: they're full zombie targets, and you shoot them, and they
- 58:12Speaker 1: actually bleed and fall apart and.
- 58:13Speaker 10: Stuff like that. They're like mannequin size. They're not like.
- 58:16Speaker 10: two-dimensional they're 3d they're.
- 58:18Speaker 1: Three-dimensional they're mannequins so you've seen them at the gun
- 58:21Speaker 1: shop just for.
- 58:21Speaker 10: Anybody who doesn't know what we're talking about yeah uh.
- 58:24Speaker 1: But apparently they have a a nighttime zombie shoot where
- 58:28Speaker 1: you're they load you in the back of a pickup
- 58:29Speaker 1: truck and then they drive through stressful.
- 58:32Speaker 10: Situation this just sounds dangerous.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Well, yeah, you get to bring your own guns, I think.
- 58:37Speaker 1: I don't know if.
- 58:38Speaker 9: So this all seems like a stressful situation.
- 58:40Speaker 13: Sounds like parts of America, certain towns at night anyway.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it's a full drive-through gun range kind of deal.
- 58:49Speaker 1: But they're real straight. I know some people are probably like, oh,
- 58:54Speaker 1: that's just irresponsible. But the gun ranges are very, very,
- 58:59Speaker 1: very safe and very well regulated and They've got range
- 59:03Speaker 1: marshals that are there to stomp your ass if you
- 59:06Speaker 1: get out of line.
- 59:06Speaker 10: Or to step over the line too far.
- 59:09Speaker 2: Or to step.
- 59:10Speaker 1: Over the line too far, yeah. You listen to the
- 59:12Speaker 1: range marshal, because the one they usually have at ours
- 59:16Speaker 1: reminds me a lot of Arlie Ermey, and he's not
- 59:19Speaker 1: afraid one bit to start screaming at you if you
- 59:22Speaker 1: don't follow the rules. And he will kick you off
- 59:25Speaker 1: his range, so.
- 59:28Speaker 9: With an iron fist.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Yeah, he's like, you will pack up your shit and
- 59:31Speaker 1: you will go home and you will be done for
- 59:33Speaker 1: the day. Like, oh, okay.
- 59:37Speaker 11: Cool.
- 59:38Speaker 9: Well, I watch zombies. Did you have anything you've seen lately?
- 59:41Speaker 9: Anything you've watched?
- 59:44Speaker 3: No, I.
- 59:46Speaker 13: Was a semi-follower just a matter of when I was
- 59:51Speaker 13: home and able to catch The Walking Dead and then,
- 59:54Speaker 13: you know, had heard I don't have the internet, but
- 59:58Speaker 13: I heard the chatter about the Talking Dead and the
- 1:00:03Speaker 13: book as well. And exactly what Misty was saying about
- 1:00:07Speaker 13: like completely milking my buddy, not quite being a little
- 1:00:12Speaker 13: bit lazy, not quite driven enough. I read quite a
- 1:00:15Speaker 13: bit enough, but really wanted to get inside the book
- 1:00:18Speaker 13: and stuff like that and follow that as well. And
- 1:00:21Speaker 13: it completely grabbed me. and kind of turned me on
- 1:00:25Speaker 13: to the whole, you know, the whole conspiracy zombie government,
- 1:00:31Speaker 13: further conspiracy kind of stuff as well, but the whole
- 1:00:34Speaker 13: zombie apocalypse type of genre, and when I finally did
- 1:00:42Speaker 13: get to see, during holidays and such like that, the back-to-back,
- 1:00:46Speaker 13: you know, long-term stories, I've just become a complete.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: zombie fan, period.
- 1:00:52Speaker 13: And that reflects back to a lot of movies I
- 1:00:56Speaker 13: grew up watching. Like, you know, I don't know, even
- 1:01:04Speaker 13: different movies like They Live. I mean, seeing Roddy Piper
- 1:01:08Speaker 13: was like, to me, I was a little bit older
- 1:01:11Speaker 13: than the wrestling age, even though I give him kudos
- 1:01:14Speaker 13: for being that generation and stuff like that. But They Live, dude,
- 1:01:18Speaker 13: come on.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: Come on.
- 1:01:20Speaker 13: Like they were saying, like, you know, they're bigger into
- 1:01:24Speaker 13: his later stuff. But when I saw that ball from Phantasm,
- 1:01:31Speaker 13: I started to have nightmares all over again. I think
- 1:01:33Speaker 13: I'll have them tonight. And I'm blaming them on you
- 1:01:36Speaker 13: guys for talking me into going here.
- 1:01:38Speaker 10: I'll have nightmares about the winged creature things from Beastmaster,
- 1:01:41Speaker 10: which we also talked about with Don Coscarelli.
- 1:01:44Speaker 9: He's so awesome. He was very cool.
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: I'm like.
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: Glowing with happiness. It was a good run, I have
- 1:01:52Speaker 7: to say. I don't know if we exhausted all our
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: stories from Days.
- 1:01:57Speaker 9: Of the Dead.
- 1:01:59Speaker 10: I think so.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: I just spent most of my time hanging out with
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: Bill and looking for him and trying to make sure
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: he didn't get lost.
- 1:02:07Speaker 10: Which he only did once.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I just lost you that one time. We didn't
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: know where you were.
- 1:02:11Speaker 10: We couldn't find him at the end of the day either.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: He went out the other door to go see.
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: Well, it was fun, so we do want to say
- 1:02:18Speaker 7: thanks to the guys at Days of the Dead who
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: set it all up and had us come in there
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: and check it out.
- 1:02:25Speaker 10: And Don Coscarelli. I want to take a second to
- 1:02:27Speaker 10: thank him personally just because he was so awesome. Thank
- 1:02:30Speaker 10: you for being awesome.
- 1:02:31Speaker 9: He was awesome, yeah.
- 1:02:32Speaker 7: I thank all of the celebrities who were very nice,
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: but Don in particular was pretty damn cool to us.
- 1:02:37Speaker 10: That's like the best. That's like my second favorite celebrity
- 1:02:42Speaker 10: meeting right there.
- 1:02:43Speaker 9: He was very cool. You know. As was Odorous and Adam.
- 1:02:47Speaker 10: They'd probably line up after that, but it's got to
- 1:02:49Speaker 10: be John Schneider and then Don Coscarelli. I don't know.
- 1:02:53Speaker 10: Don Coscarelli was so nice, he might have even bumped
- 1:02:55Speaker 10: out John Schneider. He was so fucking nice.
- 1:02:59Speaker 9: Holy shit.
- 1:03:00Speaker 7: I'm just thinking he didn't give you... Are you going
- 1:03:03Speaker 7: to be getting a Don Coscarelli?
- 1:03:05Speaker 10: No, I will be getting a Beastmaster tattoo. I will
- 1:03:08Speaker 10: get a Beastmaster tattoo before I get a Don Coscarelli.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Get him holding the Beastmaster sword in the thong, and
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: that's like the double deal. That's the double deal. That's
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: the Don Coscarelli in the Beastmaster costume.
- 1:03:20Speaker 10: We were talking about that, too.
- 1:03:21Speaker 9: Yeah, I did ask you if he wears that regularly.
- 1:03:24Speaker 10: He had a picture of him and Mark Singer. And
- 1:03:27Speaker 10: it's Mark Singer in the little outfit.
- 1:03:30Speaker 9: Spadangly leather action he's got going on.
- 1:03:32Speaker 10: He's like, can you tell which one I am?
- 1:03:33Speaker 9: I was like, come on, you wear that all the time.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: Don't lie.
- 1:03:38Speaker 7: Well, again, they are actually putting together all kinds of
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: them now throughout the year.
- 1:03:43Speaker 9: So there's, I think, three.
- 1:03:45Speaker 10: Not near here, they're all spread across the country. So
- 1:03:47Speaker 10: if they're in your neck of the woods, I would
- 1:03:49Speaker 10: definitely check them out if.
- 1:03:49Speaker 9: I were you. Yeah, since we are going out to
- 1:03:51Speaker 9: people all over, check it out. I think they've got
- 1:03:53Speaker 9: one coming up in Atlanta.
- 1:03:54Speaker 10: They've got Chicago and Illinois. Yeah, Chicago and Illinois.
- 1:03:58Speaker 9: Yeah, there's one in Los Angeles, I think. I don't know,
- 1:04:01Speaker 9: check the website.
- 1:04:01Speaker 10: Atlanta? Did we say Atlanta?
- 1:04:02Speaker 9: Yeah, Atlanta is definitely coming up.
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: It is daysofthedead.net, and yeah, they've got several more in
- 1:04:09Speaker 7: the works, so go check it out. Anything else to
- 1:04:12Speaker 7: pass along?
- 1:04:14Speaker 10: Beastmaster is awesome.
- 1:04:15Speaker 9: Beastmaster is awesome.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: Good times.
- 1:04:18Speaker 9: Good times.
- 1:04:19Speaker 11: Beastmaster.
- 1:04:20Speaker 9: Hell yeah.
- 1:04:21Speaker 10: The master of the beasts.
- 1:04:23Speaker 9: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week.
- 1:04:24Speaker 9: Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:04:27Speaker 10: One, two, three, four, five, six. So if I still
- 1:04:35Speaker 10: want an hour.
- 1:04:36Speaker 15: Gonna ride by the stop and shop with the radio on.
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: I'm in love with the modern world. I'm in touch,
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: I'm a modern girl. New York City when it's late
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: at night.
- 1:04:53Speaker 15: I got the radio on.
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: Let's do it all night.
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: We're the Radio 1.
- 1:05:29Speaker 10: Got the FM.
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: Got the power. Got the magic. The 50,000 watts of power.
- 1:05:36Speaker 12: We're going faster miles an hour.
- 1:05:41Speaker 6: I feel like a road brother. Can't you hear it
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: out in Jersey now? Oh, New York City when it's
- 1:06:07Speaker 6: late at night. I'm heading east on St.
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: Mark's over to Tompkins Square Park, down by the power lines.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: I see all the neon and it's cold at night.
- 1:06:19Speaker 10: Yeah, well, I got my radio on.
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: It's so exciting here with the skyscrapers in the dark.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: I feel in.
- 1:06:26Speaker 10: Touch with the modern world. I feel in touch, I
- 1:06:29Speaker 10: feel alive with 50,000 watt power.
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: I got the radio on.
- 1:06:31Speaker 12: I run around, I run around the world.
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: Radio on. It's all about the miles an hour.
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: Radio on.
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: You know, I walk by the stop and shop. Radio on.
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: And then I drive by the stop and shop. Radio on.
- 1:06:44Speaker 12: And I like that much better than walking by the
- 1:06:49Speaker 12: stop and shop.
