- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, folks.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is Ken McCuse.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: I can go back for part two of Friday morning GM here with my co-host and friend, Vosta Rico's boss.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: How you doing?
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, life is good.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing great.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: Always enjoy talking about with you every Wednesday for our barbecue Thursday for the Friday show.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited about this, Ravens season.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: I remained very optimistic.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of people nationally have been talking about whether that the Rio game could be a springboard for this game and be something that really takes them to another level.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure I have really ever believed in that.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think your momentum is as good as your next game.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, they've decided along flight coming back, they've got a, you know, a trap game against Tennessee, and then you got to ask the question if they beat Tennessee, what, what did that really mean.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm kind of hoping that this, you know,
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: took the demons of the blown leads and cast them aside, you know, time will tell obviously, but, you know, in basketball they have a term you have to see the ball go through the net.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: You have to see a game on the cusp and you come out on the winning end after so many heartbreaking defeats.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: I hope this is a springboard.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think it could be.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, well, I'll buy that and they've only had so far like one and a half blue leaves and three games when you include the Saints game and that many times they blew the lead mentality, let's get him frankly.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's that we promised the inactive list as the first thing.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: Then we have a very, really nice deep mail bag.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Lots of good questions for this week.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: But the projected in practice for week three actually is a little bit simpler than normal because the Ravens only have 52 people in the roster.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: They cut Carl Jones, we talked about that in the first episode.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then they really have Gwen and Posek who we expected to go to IR, I would think before this game, which will then clear space for somebody else to be added
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: Right, so you're already done a 50, you gotta make two more, right?
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll make two more.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: But Fagnano is the obvious, the free play there with QB3.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: The defensive line, the staff, six guys on the roster, they probably want to take five in the game day, so that seems like the most of us bought, you probably want to have Ethan Burke and Chandler Rivers and all your corners up.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: So that's probably the big decision I would say.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: I actually think Peoples might get a jersey this week in lieu of Washington because of the projected positive game script where the Ravens should be holding a lead and Peoples can maybe get out to the quarterback in a second half when the Ravens are up big.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: If the game should close accordingly, so that wouldn't surprise me.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'd like to see that at least.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: I could see it's they have the rivets have a lot of answers for positive gamescript.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: It does not require envious peoples to be an active roster and broader Washington and Jenkins until this last game had been kind of a power couple that they played together very well, particularly in the Saints game in terms of stopping the run.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody did a particularly good job of stopping the run against Dallas and the SOS game Dallas had way too many well-block plays.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think the Titans have a really decimated line too, very similar to the Ravens frankly, and they probably will have some trouble blocking, but that tells me you want to maintain
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: good size and keep good pressure on that offensive line.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm actually kind of don't know whether the Ravens might go to more base defense.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is a big thing last week that requires more alignment, but they went to 11 saps of base in this game and they'd only play two of the whole season coming into the game.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: Right, and then I think what they have like three of a heavy yeah, what are you trying to want to jump up the jump up that's the third yes, yeah, well, it's good that mentors Malibu a little bit is not doing the same exact thing every week.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of think this is a game where they're going to kind of dial in and I know we want to be aware of the trap game, but
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: I have a good feeling about this one.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: Not going to work.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's hope you're right about that one.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: So it is Peoples.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then the third one, I think it will be at wide receiver.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about Moore's injury problems.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: He's been limited twice so far with an ankle injury.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: That was a new injury this week.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously Moore's been a guy who they've depended on heavily.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: And then Serrat is the invisible man, and then it wasn't there so far this year and we need to find a way to figure out what the ravens have there.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you don't want it to be a long season, I mean, you get a message of fortune on pick and syrup, right?
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, you probably lose a little bit on a special team, but you definitely lose a little bit as much of a team as it more is out.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: But they think it's interesting that they're having to receive or run a ball out, wanting the run-and-back on kicks this year, but it's just a little pitted, even though it's pretty much the same special team's staff.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: either syrup, if more, if more can't go, I mean, more is what it is, early 30s.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: So immortal rest is probably going to be a piece of the puzzle going forward.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: So if he's at 70% or 80% probably, or deactivations is responsible would make sense to me too.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: They then have to go probably to all lead or return kicks.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: And that doesn't seem like that's a big sacrifice to make so they can do that.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: More does approach the ball very well on kickoffs, by the way.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: I really appreciate that about him.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: He catches him on the run, and that's one thing I look for in camp, and I'm kind of scoring kick returns is first of all, how well do they square up on the football or get to the football in time.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: The second part is how quickly they explode out of their catching stance.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: So that's something I've appreciated from more.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: But there will be elevations this week.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: two offensive linemen that they've got to figure out how to fill those spots.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: So did they have anybody inactive this last week?
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: Because more he was active.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: There had to be somebody who was inactive on the offensive lines.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: Joe was Jones.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: No, Jones was active.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: They had eight guys active.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: Joe's played three snaps of OL six.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: Um, come on for getting is it's not an offensive tackle or anything.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: Lichtenhand is in on the roster.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, they frankly, they have, I think they have to have two guys that they have and probably Andre James and either Lichtenhand or a doga, depending on whether or not they believe a doga would also be a guy who could help them on the interior or be a swing guard tackle.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's a tough situation on the offensive line with these cluster injuries.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and again, we also touched on the first episode.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know barely anything about our new junts.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: Can he be a subcanny playwright tackle?
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Can he be a serviceable rotational right car?
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: We really don't.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, yeah, I definitely think Andre James, if you can get the playbook down in time.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: is a good chance to be activated and I would say lifting hand as well, you know, definitely keep an eye on this offensive line situation in the next coming days and even a week after.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: Could they bring in a veteran, they've got to put some pleasure of parents on the situation and get through this next little stretch.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: With regard to the situation at right guard in particular, I don't even know that Voorhees has an entire game of leash remaining.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: If he were to play poorly in the first half and it just Simmons or others on the defensive life Franklin Myers would be too much for him.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think you make the move in game.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think you go ahead and maybe even bring in in the second half, you bring in Jones and give him the half to see what he's got.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, we need to find out what you have in Jones, both for this, the future of this season, and obviously coming season, the third round pick isn't just beginning in the second year, that's a big investment.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, we'll see how it goes.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: Let's hope that everybody fairs well, what he's,
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: if the game trip is going well, I could see, let's see what John says and if the game trip is going bad because of him.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was possible for that.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so we're on the same pitch.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: All right, fair enough, we'll take a break here and we'll be right back.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: All right, got a bunch of mailbag questions this week from folks.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: Really appreciate all the effort people have been put into mailbag questions and please send them to film study mailbag at gmail.com.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start with Brian Spar.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I've tried to boil down the questions this week because we've got some wonderful complex questions.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple of them.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: I can't do anything but read the whole thing.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: But Brian, I've followed yours down.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: Is the eight player designated to return limit going to impact the Ravens this season?
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: Great question.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: very reasonable question.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: So right now, as I see it, we don't have news on TJ Tampa.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: What is that clearly the injury was?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: But it looks like there haven't even set four players.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: TJ Tampa, Jacobi Lane obviously, Adam Randall and Bellau Cone.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: So that's four.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's highly possible that they could be limited by that.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: They might have to carry somebody on the 53 that might miss four games.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: We've had this in previous seasons.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: I remember two years ago, maybe the first year we were doing the show again, and I was like, I don't know if they're going to have eight.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: And then they were up, they were remarkably healthy down the stretch.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: So they didn't quite need it.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: But it's definitely reasonable to say, they might have to carry some walking wounded as you call them on the 53.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: So they've had a couple different ways.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, they've used their final spot prophylactically.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens are extremely savvy with using their IRGTR spots.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, I think the number got reduced to 8 in part because the Ravens were a team that was very clever about the way they handled it.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: It was more during the COVID years because they just needed every team to feed all the real roster frankly.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: But in the, during the time since they changed it, I think it's almost like a Raven's rule.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: You can only have eight of these.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: So the Ravens a couple of years ago, there was either an inside linebacker, maybe as an outside linebacker, who came back, was coming back from injury.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: They started the period, the three week period, a lot of the practice, and at the end of it, they didn't need him, and so they designated him to IR for the remainder of the season.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: And so that was a prophylactic activation.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't really cost the Ravens anything, but it was a really interesting move that will show you what a good organization does in terms of doing that.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: And the Ravens may have an opportunity to do that this year.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's also, I think, it's easy to over
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: reject the future need for IRDTRs.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Not too many players actually end up going to IR and then most of those guys can't come back at any point and you already know it.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: And you don't actually have to designate them for to return until they're ready to return.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: So if you if you have a guy you don't know like maybe win falls into that category if they're going to bring him back for the playoffs or bring it back for December whatever.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: If that were the case, then you don't have the problem.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: And the last thing is, any injury occurring in the last four weeks of the year is automatically not a problem for IRDTR because it's too late.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well said, well said, that this rule, as well as the three, or was it two free IRDTR spots, that was definitely a Ravens rule.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: The Legos like the Ravens are too good at this.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: They're not really like this system.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: The other teams can't keep up, let's change the rule.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Brian, I appreciate the question.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: Moving on to Brian's second question, he says, regard in the O well, Adoga has played guard most recently, although originally a tackle could he play center?
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't actually know if, if, to him, Adoga, and I did not actually know that he had played a fair amount of guard.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was a fairly clear,
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: tackle replacement, but does make more sense that the Ravens would have had guys who were there.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: It looked like he played some guard some tackle in 25 with Jacksonville.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like a fair amount of time was spent at guard that year.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know when his time with Dallas at Atlanta or the New York Jets previously.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: If he played spent time at guard, I have to kind of look at that and I don't want to do it while we're on air.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about it?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think anything's possible, just a traditional pathway for
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: players that aren't quite up to snuff at tackle or guard is the continuing kicking inside and becomes center.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Two prime examples are Matt Burke and Ryan Jensen who would play tackle in college and we're NFL centers.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I won't roll anything out.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the big thing for a center, well, there's two to align the protections for the most part unless you have help from a guard and also to snap the ball.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know enough about it to say when we are not there, but I won't roll it out.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so something they could tinker with this week, and I'm looking just look through every season of a doggos career really quickly.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's had three NFL starts at right guard, which represent most of his playing time there.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: Most of his other time was at tackle during his career.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: So he does seem to be a legitimate guard tackle choice.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens really need one of those as well.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: And it could be a guy certainly that would, you know, you think, oh, is this the guy who could maybe move to Center and also a bigger guy.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: So, you certainly at 63, 63 308, he's not huge.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: He could be a guy who would make sense at Center.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, interesting idea.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, Brian, for the update on that.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: Regarding heads up on that.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: Moving on to Zachary Branch.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: You've mentioned Simpson as a possible Mike in 2027.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: but it makes more sense of transition to can and to Mike and keeps Simpson a will for coverage purposes.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so he didn't say exactly that, and I could read the whole question, but it's too long for the purposes of the show, frankly.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I think Simpson is the more obvious physical like match.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think the question is always being from a...
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: Processing standpoint is he the ideal guy and he's a bit of trail player a guy you'd want free to do a lot of things which you can you can do more of that with a will.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think it could go either way.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: The thing I'll say about Buchanan, there's not one thing that we've seen in a wonderful season or one, you know, mostly full season plus a game that would tell me that Buchanan is an obvious move to Mike.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: predicted that.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: So far I will say he has been impressive, but it hasn't been necessarily in coverage.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's a really good downhill player.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's a thumper.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be happy within him like it's the question is what's it going to cost, right?
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: Because he's putting up some stats now tackles for loss.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: that he might be priced out.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, you definitely want a cerebral player at the mic, but I think you also have an ace up your sleeve with the ability to give Kyle Hampton the green dot if you could finish playing close to the line.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: He would be a perfect successor to Rokwon as the green dot signal caller.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so the advantage of that is if you have a green dot signal call or at safety slash time, if you have a Hamilton is going to be on the field of the time, then it gives you the ability to pull tune at the mic, so you can have a true tune down like and then maybe maybe that's even the better role is one of Simpson or be cannon could be a guy who plays two downs at will and one down at Mike.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: And you have some, you have enough value there to make it worthwhile.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I could, I could, I could say that for either of, but you're right about the being priced out because the runway for, for Simpson to stay in Baltimore is relatively short anyway.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: There has, you know, he plays so bad.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: The rate is probably don't want it back.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: He plays too well.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to price himself out is really a fairly small runway in between.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: Could get hurt.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not rooting for that, obviously, but that could be one reason I'd be back.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the point of the, the point of the platoon is a great point, Ken.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: Because I do think that inside of the backers might start becoming a little bit more priced in rising team with more to high coverage now, but you know, it's always a fluid situation.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: They do one thing for two, three years and they go back to the other.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think about the other.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I did, it does strike me that this particular staff will be very good at adapting to their personnel, meaning they can change year to year, even though it's the same coaches and they're they're doing it.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, got a longer question here from Mason Leg.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'll read the whole thing from the sheet.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: I can't appreciate the time and effort.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: My question here is more about the sideline demeanor and how it translates to performance for the defense than the actual poor defense of play we've seen in the second half of games this year.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: This year we've heard and pressed conferences from Weaver that he could tell players they were fading and emotionally defeated in the Saints game, which he believes led to poorer performance at the end of the game.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: Similarly we saw poor defensive outing in the Cowboys game with some bigger,
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Stepping up moments in the fourth quarter, but they are few and far between.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: Have you have you or anyone else noticed how Jesse Meters demeanor and energy levels have consistently decreased From the start of a game to the end of a game.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: For example, the start of the Cowboys game midter can be seen literally jumping up and screaming and celebrating the roquois Smith sack of the Cowboys first red zone trip You continue to celebrate the exorbitant
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: in exorbitant fashion during the first quarter, even the second, but as the game approached, I think that's, you know, went on.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: His energy and passion seems to be significantly fall off the sideline.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think the players feel this difference and that impacts it?
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: This is really a question for Lars, isn't it?
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry for, uh, Rasmus, Larsson.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe I'll just put that over to that episode.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to answer one part of this here that I don't think mentors personal injury is exactly what the players are feeding off of.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think if anything, weaver kind of is the poll for energy on that defense.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: And some of the things that we were said today about needing the players to police themselves, I think is a pretty positive thing.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what I, I definitely agree with that.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: Weaver is an emotional leader on the sideline.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: What I like about Mentor is he's very level.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: He seems very level.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, he gets excited.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, following that week too, he didn't walk into the press room on Monday morning.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the jacked with the jacked local in space he was looking forward.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't seem to get too high to us.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: You can get too low It seems well prepared for the job of a head coach so far.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we'll only see three weeks, but he seems I like his immunoscale that yeah, I think the biggest thing I took from the game in Rio is he came off a terribly managed game Just an awful one of the worst in Ravens history and he came back and had a really good managed game and and
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they missed two fourth dance, putting went for the fourth dance that they should have gone for.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: That's really important.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: The cowboys will not get so lucky again.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And now they found the next level of problem that they need to solve.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: And fortunately, they got it in a win.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: Is how do they get back to a more varied set of plays that they show the opponents on fourth down that they can get at yard?
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: But basically, I mean, keep the ball in the march, accents, hands as long as possible.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's a young staff,
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: first time head coach, first time, often it's coordinator, first time, special teams coordinator.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: Let's give them some time.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: Let's hope they stack some lens here, but let's see what it looks like after the buy.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: I actually have it opportunity to do some self-scouting, you know, to me it's always how they perform in the postseason.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: So let's go on to Will Sonders question, are we still in the honeymoon with midter and the Ravens beat reporters?
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: reasons, uh, anxiety.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: No questions about poor run defense since Dallas, nothing about it.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: This is the past verse, nothing about past blocking, nothing about what happened in verse LAM with two deep defense.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm assuming that you're paraphrasing there.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so he's upset about a number of things that are will is that are not going well and he's wondering why the working press is not directly confronting those things with mentor at the podium.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, is there a honeymoon phase going on?
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think this press group has a couple of people in it who will really ask very difficult questions.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: And there's some other, we'll ask more cerebral questions, three back, and Jonah Schaefer, certainly followed that category.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: A guy who will try and ask a question that might be a little bit tough, but they might even have to think about to figure out how it would be a tough question.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle Goone will go right up against the whoever it is.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: And so they have people who will certainly ask questions like that.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a component to the staff and Jamison is there and a whole bunch of other people who've been there for a long time.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: They don't ever really ask anything but a softball.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that there is some of that and if you go in there and ask a tough question or even sometimes ask just a football question, it could be unappreciated.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think that beat reporters are conditioned to softballs because of the previous regime and because of Chad's steel and Kevin Burn, and I was there many years ago for training camp now, and they sort of tried to intimidate the people to kind of, you know, over the company line, so to speak.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: So, but I also just going back to my previous comment.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're deserving of having a period still because they're still in hiding themselves.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see, but asking tough questions isn't going to solve the things problems.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a little bit for the fans to defeat a bond.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: A little more candy or your snacks for us, that's why we while we are weeks between the games.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: But it is interesting that there is a zero honeymoon period effectively or maybe a few weeks only for a hardball within your giants.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's already on the press about questions they're asking.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: The New York Press is far different.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Philadelphia Press is far different from the Baltimore Press in terms of how much they press at the defense headquarters.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's at the coach, so that's a legitimate question.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: No, no question about it.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's different.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's different media markets.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's go to Glenn George, given the recent QB injuries around the NFL, Chicago Washington, New York Giants, what would be reasonable in terms of trade expectation for
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: So every time a fifth, I might be a little optimistic.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: kind of like the theme control of Indiana, right?
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: So he could potentially be the Mars successor for that successor to backup for multiple years.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: If really press, I might see we could get for hotly and try to keep on, you know, that's maybe a little bit controversial, I know probably as a lot of fans in the city and the fan base, but I don't know, but just off the cup, I'd say a fifth.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you know, we just saw trades made this week and you kind of have to to to build the framework around what players are actually going for.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: So JJ McCarthy got traded this week and in order to do that, not exactly sure what kind of a cat cost there was, but there's probably some, even though it's a rookie deal still for JJ McCarthy for the Vikings to cut him.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: and he got a fifth.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: They got a fifth for JJ McCarthy.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not going to be a fifth for Fanny.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: I know I don't think right this second.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: Now this is one of the things where, you know,
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe Fernando's feared better than the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the course of the
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a cost of the Vikings making that trade in terms of cap that they got, and then they got a relatively small amount back.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: So usually when you buy cap from another team like that, you usually, there's an additional cost in terms of draft capital and do that, this is a motivated seller.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the Vikings were just motivated to obviously get rid of them.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe, maybe a case where they didn't really want to go through the, you know, the popularity of J.J. McCarthy is a backup quarterback.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: Say, they, uh, the...
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: The rumor was KOC, Kevin O'Connor, head coach, just never wanted McCarthy, didn't like McCarthy.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: And, um, he could fit well with the giants, you know, they're going to be a run-heavy team, and he probably brings a little bit of something to the table, in that regard, but, uh, you know, right?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, fifth might be a pipe dream, but, uh, I mean, fifth might be a pipe dream.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, I mean, fifth might be a pipe dream.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, I mean, fifth might be a pipe dream.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, I mean, fifth might be a pipe dream.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, I mean, fifth might be a pipe dream.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, I mean, fifth might be a pipe dream.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, I mean, fifth might be a pipe dream.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, I mean, fifth might be a pipe dream.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: My car thing was definitely the presence of the flip side of this is, you know, the, the old story about how the teacher says he's going to sell he's going to give 15 A or, you know, eight A's and, you know, 12 B's and 20 C's and by the time you get, you get down to the bidding for the last C, that's that goes for the most money, you know, right.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: with the last D, I think I just realized that too, and this may be a case where if you wait a little bit longer and the replacement level drops even further, then the price tag could get up to a fifth or something.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a possibility.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, at some point, something may just need it back on, and they may say, you know what, we'll give you if that for that, and there are a bunch of teams out there who don't believe in their own ability to draft and are willing to trade a fifth round pack, pick away like it's the kind of party favorite that a lot of fans think it is.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: So there are teams who actually espoused that, you know, a few other.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: There's a ton of parody this season through three games.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: They would have had the Raiders as one of the only five undefeated teams that I have three.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, who's eliminated right now?
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's the whole art world division is deadlock right now.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: And some fan bases say,
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: Man, let me get hardly, and we can make a run out of the playoffs, and that's what I'm going to assume both for them, because they're not used to having good season.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: So there could be a market, but anyway, let's go on a second question.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: If the rate is good for the deal, how would you like to see the open roster spot?
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll start with, I don't think that's really the kind of question that it was, you know, a couple of weeks ago, we had all these injuries, which basically are leaving three open roster spots currently.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: The one move I'd like to see the Ravens make is go out and recover Robert longer being from the Eagles practice squad.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the guy I want to add.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: You added to it.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: I got him a paper, a quarterback, a quarterback depth, and two arrows to a long to be up.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think you need a quarterback depth.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to need it this year.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: Elusiate didn't have the best showing, given a little bit more snaps, and that's one of those race car positions, like the cost of cold, where Israel's are expected and they can't play through minor injuries like other positions.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: We're at agreement on that one.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: Then Kendall Brown has two questions here.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: We read the first, I'll read the first one off the sheet.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: Let me do that.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: Cecilia, how confident are you in the Lamar beatman connection?
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he had a solid game, and I think we would be having a different conversation about beatman if Lamar hits him on the third and one play instead of Chris Moore.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's against the Titans.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: I know the secondary supposedly used some sort of deception on that play and Lamar was pressured, but I don't feel like Lamar will spam going to beatman like he would with flowers,
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: but if he did on that play he would have seen an uncovered a fraction of a second after he committed that deep shot the more for a huge game.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: Okay so we're remembering back to the Saints game is the game.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah and I saw that clip and Lamar was under a little bit of the rest there and yeah if he waited a little bit longer but I think they had good chemistry I mean they had they're making plays in the Saints game you know he was looking for him on that
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: or fourth-down, or fourth-quarter, I should say, basically hell, Mary play.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: Flowers are just a better player than bacon, and he's open on the time, and he's going to be your first read on those plays when he's available.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: When he's not, it was good to see bacon step up and serve as a widersie or one needed.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: So what will rebuild more targets there is if the ravens and this may happen this year because the ravens certainly have their problems on the offensive line have to become an extended play team on a greater percentage of things so the the regular deep in cut that we saw go on the seven second play that was you know six second play.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: to flowers.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's really a first read play.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: So there's not a need to go to a second or see her.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: But when Lamar starts dancing around and has to make an evolution, then that's a place where Bateman really helps you because not only is Bateman have great wiggle getting to the top of the stem and what he does to a corner there.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: He has great secondary wiggle.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he really takes advantage of anybody who peaks into the back field, and he knows how to change direction down the field, and I think there it could be extremely valuable to Lamar and if we go to suddenly to a situation where you're getting, I don't even know what the exact percentage would be, but let's say 45% or 55% of the plays are becoming second-read plays, then baiting all of a sudden would become more valuable in that environment.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, he's a cable one number two.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's played as a number two.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's a perfectly fine player.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: I would even take the other side of that coin.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say the offensive line gets to a point where they have to start using quick game.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: And the more has to be on time.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I play it on time.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's also a place where baby can really excel because he's that sharp, you know, wrap on her.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: So either way, I think the, why we're seeing a position is in good place with flowers back and expecting Lane back at some point.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: The last question the day is Kendall Brown.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to hear who you and boss think are most to blame for the blown leads.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a really good question, Kendall.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's so hard to parse blame in a sport that has as interconnected as football.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: Where all positions, in fact, other on both sides of the ball, et cetera, there's a various things, right?
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: You could point to tackling.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: You could point to man coverage.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: There was an article out today that said man coverage and the Ravens blitz more than third most in four downs and they had the third most man coverage and maybe they had a little bit too aggressive on defense.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: Just to throw a thought experiment out there or just a notion, I think roster construction has something to do with it because they don't have an apex past rusher who can really close at a game and they also have not had in recent years the elite offensive line play that can create holes when the defense knows a run is coming.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: So in conjunction, being a little bit,
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to say subpoor, but maybe average in the trenches, probably have something to do with.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so this is a good thing, and this is a good thing, and this is a good thing to connect to one, because you're already blaming the offense.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to say, blame the offense, maybe in a different way.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, they were defective, and this last came on two fourth and once, and as great a game in Los Amard had, and yet a great game, like 15 to 20, beat his opportunity set by about 3.7 yards per play.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: which is fantastic.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: And he left five throws on the field.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: And they were bad misses.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was under pressure.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's true.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: And the first one to Andrews, but that was a 30-yard gain and a continuation of a drive.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was almost points.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the Ravens probably could have scored 50 in this game, or they certainly could have put the Cowboys away by three touchdowns, even if they scored 40, say in the game, had they had
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: better success converting three different third down opportunities.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: The five passes little martin miss.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying we have to convert all these, just better success.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: And even one of two fourth downs, we don't have the kind of finish and Rio that we had.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's definitely part of it.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: And then I go to the safety position if you're just talking about the defense specifically.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of tiring on the on the on the defense that I really do blame on the offense and it gets maybe to your point as well But there's also Just some some safety play that has been not up to the level of expectation That's why we talked about this.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think of the first half of the show is is in time to think about You know whether or not those guys You know what their length of their leashes are And went through a long period of time with Marcus Williams and Ajax and before they made the move when they made the move was it was golden in 24
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I definitely agree with you.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think Lamar had better than a C++ game as your co-host has been going at the Mike Preston or your co-offemi has been.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just, you know, you win in the fourth quarter in the trenches.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: You get sacks to put them away and you run the ball down the throat and they don't quite have that cutting edge yet.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: But I think they will develop it as a season progresses.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: Outstanding stuff.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for the great question, guys.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: As usual, film study me and by gmail.com, as we want those sent, they'll be parsed out appropriately from there.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: Voss always great talking football with you, but I just want to give you a chance every week to talk about your new business venture.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I have, I purchased due to that butcher shop at 208, based on the new assets we brand that has Heritage Meat Market.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: We have Swiss cuts of beef, pork, poultry, and seafood.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: Great place to come if you're planning a tailgate.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: We have all kinds of goodies, really high quality.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: You want to smoke some meat.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: You want to grow some sausage and burgers.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's definitely great for special occasions, as the holidays arrive, we have fresh turkeys, which are pretty rare.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: We still pondered.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: What are those?
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's fine.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: Just fresh turkeys.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was precious.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: It was precious.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_00]: Most of the turkeys.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, fresh.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_00]: Excuse me.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: Most of the grocery store are frozen.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: We have fresh.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: We have our suppliers.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: Can you make it your ducking?
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: I can do whatever you want.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_00]: Trust me.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: I will make you at your duck-in and we'll take a picture and yeah, John Madden's old thing.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing is freezer orders.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I have a lot of freezer orders this week where people will stock up on what they need for several months at a time, there's a cost advantage to doing it that way.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'll break down a whole half-calf where you have you like.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, like I said, it's really fresh and you can't beat the quality.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's much better than a fine grocery store.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: custom meet.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely, Voss has worked in the restaurant business for a long time.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: We visit his restaurant out of Fiamada, which was fantastic.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Really enjoyed our trips out there, but that this seems like a good new niche for you to find.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: Really, appreciate folks you're listening.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_01]: As always, if you're getting this point, you're among our most loyal listeners of all, please do one of two things for us if you would, one would be just tell one new person about the show and help that older person who's about my age, not completely assimilated into the world of podcasts, how you can play maybe directly from the from the website, would be terrific and would appreciate that.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: And if you want to, write us a 5 star 50 word review, that's always appreciated.
- 35:41[UNKNOWN]: You
