- 0:19Turn Lord Podcasts, Arbendiki and the Code of Freak Tak. Austin late again
- 0:23to the party, Man, unreal. He's gotta gotta get it stuff.
- 0:27You gotta get a ship together. He'll be here shortly though, Dak.
- 0:34It's the off season. Is there something you'd like to get off your chest?
- 0:41I just can't believe how many quarterbacks are into the portal today. A
- 0:45lot. That's the world we live in. There's there's one guy I sent
- 0:51earlier I think would be the perfect quarterback for you, guys. I think
- 0:55you want a different one though, Well, why don't you just spoil the
- 0:59news? That's that's part of my game later, so we won't get into
- 1:03that. Okaya got a new new game for us. We don't really know
- 1:07what's coming here later on, but I'm guessing it might have something to do
- 1:11with the quarterback care usel I have my favorite pick so far, but yeah,
- 1:15we'll save that for later. It's the off season officially. As we
- 1:22said last episode, we're not going bowling conference teams For some teams. Conference
- 1:27Championship Week is this weekend, and I will say this, we are on
- 1:34our way to winning another off season Natty title. We got to fource our
- 1:38offensive lineman commit today people are already talking about When I say people Will Compton
- 1:45already talking about and us going six to oh to start the year next year.
- 1:49I mean, you can't get any better than that. Nope, he's
- 1:53uh, you know, usually the hype train starts about February. I'd say,
- 1:57right for spring ball. Basically, it's right off the tracks already,
- 2:00it's going. Not in Nebraska, baby, we get started right away.
- 2:06We gotta climb those poles in the off season from the get go. So
- 2:10what we're gonna do today? For the majority of the episode, this is
- 2:15how I got myself through the Iowa game. And yeah, I had my
- 2:22thoughts on the Iowa game, but at the same time, my mind was
- 2:27already moving forwards to the off season. And there's Austin. Austin, are
- 2:38you there there? He is late to the part. Sorry, my WiFi
- 2:46was not connecting. So what we're gonna do today? This is how I
- 2:53got my head through the Iowa game. Kind of went through the season as
- 2:59a whole three things and ended up being more than three things. But that
- 3:04I learned from the year, things that were confirmed and are still true.
- 3:13We knew it coming in. Maybe we forgot but we were reminded of it,
- 3:16and then what do we still want to know heading into next year.
- 3:22So I, as I was going through those things in my list, I
- 3:27was trying to keep it to three, and then I just started typing away
- 3:29and got carried away. So here they are, and Dak and Austin are
- 3:34going to be here to comment on them and probably agree but maybe disagree on
- 3:38some of them. Let's start with things that were confirmed, things that we
- 3:43already knew our fans this year and media and us included. We're all over
- 3:52the place with our expectations, our beliefs, our thoughts, how many wins
- 3:57we were going to get? Just to me like as a as a big
- 4:01picture thing, like that's what happened this year. I think there were times
- 4:06that people were really high on us, to the point where we're even thinking
- 4:11Big Ten title game. There are times that we're like, yeah, we're
- 4:15obviously making a bowl game. There's times that we're like, what in the
- 4:16hell this is the same team we've had last year. From the beginning of
- 4:20the year, end of year. Everybody's thoughts I think this year were just
- 4:25scattered all throughout and I think that while we might have at some point believed
- 4:30that maybe we had something figured out one way or the other, we really
- 4:33didn't know. And here we are at the end of the year and everybody's
- 4:39got their own opinions and thoughts, some good, some bad, some It
- 4:43just it is what we were at the start of the year. It's kind
- 4:48of like, you, guys, the road the mambing backwards this year,
- 4:53so you go to the top of the roller coaster, although you guys start
- 4:56the bottom. See after two games, you gotta start the bomber coaster.
- 5:00Hit rock bottom at two games, then you climbed your way up, you
- 5:03hit the top, and boom right back down. After that you're at rock
- 5:06bottom again. It was a good top though, I mean pretty good.
- 5:16I just I just remember coming into the year like nobody knew what to expect,
- 5:21and we talked about a fan base and a program that not not divided
- 5:26is the right word, but we didn't know what to expect. We had
- 5:29some people that probably were not going to full on jump on the matt Ruhle
- 5:32train because we did that with Scott Frost, so maybe there's some hesitation in
- 5:36doing that. We still had the people jumping on and drinking the rule aid.
- 5:40From the get go, we had people that thought out this schedule,
- 5:43we should win eight or nine games. We had people saying, no,
- 5:46we just need to make a Bowl game and that would be a successful year.
- 5:48It just that's what we knew coming into the year and coming out of
- 5:51the year. Like, I just think that that that's confirmed, Like that's
- 5:57how the whole year went. And yeah, dat row the mamba backwards?
- 6:00I guess whatever that means. How often do you write the mambo? I've
- 6:05never wrote it. Well, how do you know it's backwards? Yeah?
- 6:12I was thinking. I was like, you know, you got to go
- 6:14up for you down, but you guys wrote it backwards. You went down
- 6:15up down. Number two thing that I wrote down. You can't beat yourself.
- 6:29I think we knew that already, but it just got confirmed again after
- 6:33twelve games. You can't do it. You cannot do the things that lose
- 6:39you games. Penalties I thought were better, but still much better, much
- 6:45better, but those are things. Turnovers I think are the big glaring issue
- 6:48here. And special teams talk about beating yourself, you know, making field
- 6:55goals, punting the ball at least consistently you can't beat your We knew that
- 7:01coming into the year and really even addressed it before the year, and guess
- 7:05what, we knew that it happened again, so against solidified belief. I
- 7:12think we knew that coming into the year, and I don't think our opinions
- 7:15changed on that, no, And I mean we did beat ourselves in a
- 7:20different way of this year than we did last year. I don't remember turnover
- 7:24as being that big of an issue last year. I mean, they were
- 7:28still an issue, but they weren't. I really feel like when you look
- 7:31at the penalties and stuff, we didn't have that many backbreaking families like we've
- 7:35had in the past. But the comment was just beating yourself more. I
- 7:42mean, all that stuff goes into it. We just we found ways to
- 7:45beat ourselves in games. Yeah. Third third thing kind of ties right along
- 7:49with it winning the Herodics and all caps. It tells you where my mind
- 7:55was that winning is not fucking easy. It's not easy, and it matters,
- 8:00and winning matters. It's not easy. We knew that it's hard to
- 8:03win games. It is, but it matters a lot to everybody, program,
- 8:07the coaches, players, That's what matters. The final score. You
- 8:11can play so shitty weekend week out, but if you win, you're looking
- 8:16at like Iowa's headed two you lose. Here we are I was a perfect
- 8:26team to say that about winning just matters because they I don't know how they're
- 8:31tend to, but they just won and their fans are happy. Now,
- 8:35did you guys see what the over underscores were by half for the Iowa Michigan
- 8:41A championship game? Where yeah, half and a half point Jesus Christ,
- 8:50Yeah, you're right, here's my last one. Solidified beliefs, and I
- 8:58think this waivered especially in my mind, especially early on, that kind of
- 9:03had me believe in something else. But then towards the end of the year
- 9:07came back to realizing what's actually true coaching and the process matters. It's not
- 9:18all about just getting the top recruits and pulling in pieces Dion Sanders Way,
- 9:26I think early on in the year that was I remember talking about it.
- 9:30We just said, you know, what is this The better approach is?
- 9:33You know, can you just hire a Peyton Manning and just get I thought
- 9:39that I started believing it, But guess what happened at the end of it
- 9:41all? Nothing good? Now Colorado still beat US. I'm not saying that
- 9:48didn't happen, But coaching and being a leader and all of that does still
- 9:54matter in today's college football landscape. Now, I'm not saying not matter as
- 10:00much as it did twenty years ago, but it's still a very key part.
- 10:03And you can't just bring in a celebrity and win games out of the
- 10:09There's a reason good coaches are always winning because the coaches, and that's just
- 10:13what attracts the good talent too. I mean, you don't want to go
- 10:16play for a shitty coach. Speaking of Colorado, is that the one game
- 10:22out of the year you guys both like to replay? Yes, well,
- 10:26actually, I'd probably like to replay Iowa. Actually, that's a good question.
- 10:31What game would I want to replay? I think if we replayed Colorado
- 10:37we still might lose. I want Michigan State back. Yeah, is that
- 10:43weird to say? That's tough? I think I would take Iowa. I
- 10:50don't know, is it Because if we're looking at it from the scope of
- 10:52we want to take it back and say we want to start over, Michigan
- 10:56State would make the most sense because that's the game that we had the highest
- 11:00chance of winning. I think that Game two sets the tone for what happened
- 11:03at the end of the year. The rest of the year, I think
- 11:05that might be true. Yeah, I think Colorado winner lose that the rest
- 11:09of the year could still happen the same way. Iowa. Yeah, I
- 11:11guess that probably would be nice to have them back and win it. But
- 11:16that's just one game. I don't know. Good question, Dak, very
- 11:20good question. Be surprised us once in a while. Okay, things I
- 11:26learned, and this is a long list. I may not go through all
- 11:28of them. There's some positives and some negatives here first one, and this
- 11:35is more of a personal maybe Husker football related, but just more how I
- 11:43thought about the season in general. I learned myself how to really say,
- 11:52you know what, I really don't give a shit what our fans think.
- 11:54Sometimes I don't care. Some of my closest friends are telling me, like
- 11:58I have my own belief about Husker football. I'm gonna enjoy it. I'm
- 12:00gonna have fun the way I want to have fun with it. And I
- 12:03might be negative, it might be frustrated, might be happy, but I'm
- 12:09just going to enjoy it because I'm a fan of Nebraska football and while I
- 12:13jokingly or actually kind of real and also becoming a fan of Case Date because
- 12:18it's also fun. But it's okay to just have your own opinions and thoughts
- 12:22and enjoy it however you want to enjoy it, and that might mean something
- 12:24very different for everybody else. That was just more of a personal personals good
- 12:33to hear shy programs have fans too, Yeah, Ida embracing that, and
- 12:39and my whole thought was like, yeah, you can read all this stuff
- 12:43on social media, and in today's society, it's easy just to believe what
- 12:46you see and what you read. And then you might have close friends that
- 12:50are trying to influence your opinion. You know what, you can believe whatever
- 12:52you want to believe with it and enjoy it. And people are not gonna
- 12:56always agree with you. That's totally okay. Don't let it impact your enjoyment
- 13:01of being a fan of a team. Football goes way too fast too,
- 13:05might as well enjoy it. Feels like we are just kicking off in Minnesota
- 13:09yesterday. It does. Now it's over. We're gonna we're gonna get sentimental
- 13:13about football season here. It just it. It is it's it's entertainment.
- 13:18That's what we're here for. That's why we're on a podcast. It's entertainment.
- 13:22It's fun, it's enjoyable. Wow, it's a life lesson learned.
- 13:31Sometimes it's enjoyable when you're sitting there watching already punch hole through TV because you're
- 13:33watching a b YU Oklahoma State game. It's it's not it's see but it's
- 13:41the passion that it's the passion of being a fan. That's what's great about
- 13:46it all. And you know what, if you ever stopped caring about your
- 13:50team, then I mean that tells you something, that tells you you're You're
- 13:52not you're becoming less of a fan. Like again, passion emotion, if
- 13:58you either in a positive or negative way, just tells you how much you
- 14:01care about something. It does it's good, it's good. It shows that
- 14:05the fans care. Correct. So that was a big thing I learned.
- 14:09Now let's move into actually some of the more tangible parts for Husker football.
- 14:16But three three five defense, it can work, and it can work really,
- 14:20really really well in the Big ten. It is everything that we thought
- 14:26it could be. From a difficult to prepare for creativity, you can do
- 14:33a lot with it, and there's a lot of doubts coming into the year.
- 14:37I think we learned that it can it can do its job, especially
- 14:41with a coach like coach White, it can be successful and it proved that
- 14:48time after time. And yes we played some bad offenses. That's that's fair,
- 14:54but it did a good job in the Big Ten, and I think
- 14:58we can all agree that we're not gonna scrap it moving forward against the run
- 15:05heavy football programs in the Big Ten. I mean it was good enough that
- 15:09I got the DC a head coaching interview after one year. Yeah, I
- 15:16i'll see your defense is really good this year. Take out Michigan. Besides
- 15:20the Michigan, did you play a single good offense though? Colorado? I
- 15:28don't know if i'd say they're good now, Dak, I know what you're
- 15:31saying that offenses aren't good, But what do they have to be that makes
- 15:37sense? Like we're in the Big Ten, We're gonna play Big Ten schools
- 15:39Like I get it. You go to the playoff and beat at Oklahoma just
- 15:46to make you a little happier, Like, yeah, it might be difficult,
- 15:48but in the Big Ten, I think that's what we're looking for here
- 15:52for defense, and I thought, again, a really good job against him
- 15:56what we had to play. And you look around and a lot of the
- 15:58score for other games where like twenty two to twenty five, you know,
- 16:03we were holding up to ten points basically every game, and that's with them
- 16:07getting five extra possessions every game because of turnovers. Agreed, Next thing,
- 16:15here learned a lot about Matt Rule. I think this year. First thing,
- 16:25Matt Rule is a leader meant and we knew that coming into the year.
- 16:30What I think I learned the most is that's his best quality is his
- 16:36his leadership capabilities. Now, with that being said, he's a big process
- 16:41guy, very very much explains this is gonna take time. He's selling that
- 16:48right now, and that's that's gonna be his message here for the next couple
- 16:52of years. I think we learned that that's how he likes to talk.
- 16:56And then on in addition, I think he loves to explain himself. He
- 17:00loves to go out and I'm saying that in a positive and negative way.
- 17:03There's times where he's explaining himself and I think it comes off very good and
- 17:07and and I have really good intentions and I think there's time that he explains
- 17:11himself to the point that you don't need to be explaining yourself. You're just
- 17:14saying to be done with you don't need to keep ranting on about X,
- 17:19Y and Z. And I think that that stuff came out later in the
- 17:22year and we were losing, and we allude to that here too. So
- 17:26I think he's a he's a he's a leader of men, he's an explainer.
- 17:30We just learned a lot about his personality and what type of person Matt
- 17:33Rule is at the head of football program, right, I agree, Dak.
- 17:41Yeah, I think it puts a really sour note into it because five
- 17:48and when you're five and three, you're sitting there like, damn, we
- 17:49have we have a great coach right now and everything and now that the end
- 17:55to it, it just makes a lot longer offseason. That's that's it.
- 18:00People were very critical of rules coaching, particularly the last four games, and
- 18:03I don't know if it's necessarily a fair critique. It's pretty hard when you
- 18:07turn the ball over every single offense possession, right, But if you're examining
- 18:15them from beyond the actual plays on the field, I totally agree. I
- 18:18think message wise, it came off great. I think the big red gb
- 18:23r rewind or whatever, gb gb rewind. How would you say that there's
- 18:29not two rs. That's kind of redundant gb rewind gbr rewind. Anyways,
- 18:34he came across pretty well there, and I think, you know, there's
- 18:37a couple of quotes out of that that people really chewed up. And he
- 18:41had some good you had some good speeches, right that went that went nationally,
- 18:44I mean on social media they did. And this kind of tags along
- 18:48with the next thing I have down for things I learned. We learned what
- 18:52Matt Rule's identity is more of the coaching style. And again I'm saying this
- 18:59in a very neutral standpoint as I did the last one too, Like there's
- 19:03positives and negatives with it. Matt Ruhle's identity of what he's trying to do
- 19:07is run the football and have strong defenses and not turn the ball over.
- 19:14That's what he wants to do. That is his identities of his team.
- 19:17Now, did we execute that? You got two of the three? Well?
- 19:23Yes? And how well when you talk about running the football, yeah,
- 19:29we did that a lot this year. How much of that is due
- 19:33to the lack of the quarterbacks that we had versus is what he actually wants
- 19:37to do, we don't know, but that's his identity of what he's trying
- 19:41to do. What I think the criticism comes in here later in the year
- 19:47is how much did he actually truly believe? If you truly believe in not
- 19:52turning the ball over and having a strong defense running the football, why does
- 19:56it keep happening? What's causing those things to occur in the game? And
- 20:00I don't know the answer to that. There's a lot of things. It
- 20:04comes down to players, comes down to play calling, it comes down to
- 20:07the situation on the field. You're a lot of things that go into it.
- 20:11But I think that's where the critique goes is what does he truly believe
- 20:15in what he's trying to preach as his identity. Because he's been very clear
- 20:19on what he wants to do. But does he truly believe and know how
- 20:25to establish that? I mean, I don't know. The turnover thing is
- 20:33the one that's tough to because that's an end game issue that you can coach.
- 20:41But going into the year, I mean, it was mostly quarterback driven
- 20:45turnovers. I mean, yeah, we had some fumbles, elsewhere, But
- 20:49the quarterbacks were the ones causing most of the turnovers. So you think you
- 20:52can probably coach that out of them, you think. But outside of that,
- 20:59I mean, that's just a that's a tough one to solve in season.
- 21:04The one the one thing I think is kind of neutra season is it's
- 21:11all on him. It's coming out of training camp. He picked Jeff Sims
- 21:14to be your quarterback. Ye, no clue what the hell he saw,
- 21:18But that's all on him picking that start out. But he did pivot.
- 21:22Yeah, he wasn't afraid to stick with Herberd even though Sims was healthy.
- 21:29Yeah. I mean, I think we talked about red flags here and there.
- 21:33I mean that that was a big one, very big one from the
- 21:36get go, and we're gonna be in a similar situation here going into next
- 21:41season. Last one that I have here things I learned. This is more
- 21:45of a big picture item. Jumping back to that another life lesson Austin,
- 21:51You're gonna love it. Negativity just sucks, a constant negativity and not having
- 22:00need light at the end of the tunnel just isn't fun. It's not it's
- 22:03not enjoyable, and it's wife advice avoid people that are just constantly negative.
- 22:07It just sucks. Now. On the flip side of that, this year
- 22:12I thought was one of the more enjoyable years because there was hope and there's
- 22:18still is hope. I think with Rule and the staff the last two or
- 22:23three years of Frost, I didn't see a lot of hope. In fact,
- 22:26I gave up on him in prior year three and and like like we've
- 22:30said, it lasted a little bit too long. This year was more enjoyable
- 22:34because there was hope throughout the whole year, all the way up into the
- 22:38last game. And yes, that hope is just getting to a ball game.
- 22:41I get it. I get that's the hope right now, is getting
- 22:45to a ballgame. But it made it more enjoyable and more fun to be
- 22:49a fan of Huscar football this year when you are in that situation, and
- 22:55yes, our expectations have gone way down, but that's kind of the life
- 23:00thing I learned, that's true. I think part of that though, is,
- 23:03you know, that's credit to Rule. I think I just remember Frost
- 23:07press conferences. You didn't you don't feel good. You didn't feel good.
- 23:10After a Frost press conference, it was like you felt yeah, at least
- 23:18rule at least projected that hope. And he's like, hey, we didn't
- 23:19get it this week, but we're gonna go back and we're gonna you know,
- 23:22here's what we didn't work on. You know, these guys are super
- 23:25bummed out, but you know we all want it as bad as you guys
- 23:27do. He kind of felt that. You just felt that throughout the year,
- 23:30and part of that's probably just because we did win more. We won
- 23:33more early, so you're just more hopeful because you're like, I've seen success,
- 23:37I've tasted it. That first quarter of Wisconsin, Oh boy, best
- 23:41quarter of Nebraska football in four years. Probably, Yeah, I totally agree.
- 23:48It just had a better energy to it. I think the players looked
- 23:52like they had more hope on the field and off the field, and I
- 23:55think as a fan it was easier to read. Yeah, And that's thing
- 24:00that like constructive criticism and like that side of coaching, and it is not
- 24:07important or self correction or whatever you want to say, like learning from your
- 24:12mistakes, that's all still needed. I'm just saying it is constant negativity with
- 24:18no solution just sucks. Like find a solution, like learn, get better
- 24:26and where we actually saw them learn we had like our biggest turnover, our
- 24:33biggest turnover game. Was it Maryland or was it Michigan State? Yeah,
- 24:40might have been Purdue, I don't remember. But the next game Wisconsin,
- 24:45we only had one turnover and it didn't even count. You know, we
- 24:48saw the progress and then we lost it obviously in Iowa. But you know
- 24:52whatever, whatever, there's moments and I'm I'm I guess this comment obviously reflects
- 24:59in the game. I was thinking more from a discussion standpoint with friends and
- 25:02on a podcast, and yeah, if you just come if you're just constantly
- 25:06negative about everything, it's probably awesome that you fell about me for a couple
- 25:10of years, Is it really? Like it's not fun if you just think
- 25:18about someone at at your job that just complains all the time and never like
- 25:21does anything about it. All I do is come in and complain every day.
- 25:23Oh I'm tired of this sucks, Like then then quit your job and
- 25:27then go do something else. Like if you're not having fun, then don't
- 25:30do it being a Husker fan. That don't be a Husker fan, Like
- 25:34you're just gonna if you're just gonna bitch about where we're at. I don't
- 25:40want to hear it because then when we're at the top, you're gonna be
- 25:41like, oh, I've been. It's like, nah, dude, you
- 25:45were at you were bailing on us at the bottom. Get out of here.
- 25:48Get the hell out of here, you too, Dak. Yeah,
- 25:53that's I just bitch all the time about the Huskers. But you can vent
- 25:59ben team. You know it's allowed. But the I think the good part
- 26:03is you can have hope coming in this offseason is because you know what your
- 26:07problem is after Frost. You know what the fucking problem was. You have
- 26:11every single issue in the book. You know what your problem is. It's
- 26:14quarterback and that's your main thing. So you have hope you know what you
- 26:18need to fix. Yep. And that goes right into what I guess things
- 26:23I wanted to learn as I was making my last number one, as you
- 26:26mentioned what do we need? What do we want out of our quarterback?
- 26:33And it's a two part question, right because the transfer portal is open.
- 26:40I think what we what people want is very different than what we really need
- 26:47according to our coaches, and we don't really know. That's why to want
- 26:49to learn things we don't know what they think, like, are they trying
- 26:52to get a guy in here that can throw it? Because here's my I'm
- 26:56scared of that because if we get a guy that come in here and throw
- 26:57it really really well, then Satterfield is going to try to throw at thirty
- 27:00plus times a game. So, like, I think that what we want
- 27:07need out of a quarterback is it's pretty delicate, I guess because I don't.
- 27:11I do we need an elite, elite quarterback. Some people are gonna
- 27:15say, yeah, yeah, we need we need to get a the top
- 27:18transfer portal QB into Nebraska. We need that. I mean, if if
- 27:22you want to be an elite program at some point, you need that.
- 27:26But for us next year, we do not need that. Like again to
- 27:30Phil rules identity and what he's trying to do, what are we after here?
- 27:34And that? I mean that's gonna be the burning off season question for
- 27:38the whole entire offseason is who this guy is gonna be? Oh yeah,
- 27:45I mean that's all like the Huskers subreddit, it's just well it's Grant Bricks
- 27:49now and then it's q BE portal transfer news. That is it mm hmm.
- 27:56Every quarterback I saw us going there quarterbacks going in the brass and guys,
- 28:03it's gonna sound really I'm not so sure, Chubba like, we need
- 28:11someone better than them, We need someone better than them, but a better
- 28:15version of them, a better version of them, is what I'm after,
- 28:18what I think we should get. And once we get to Dak's game here,
- 28:22I'll explain who that person is. People might already know. Second thing
- 28:26that I want to learn is how our defense continue to get better? Or
- 28:33will we be satisfied with how this season went on a defense event? And
- 28:37that's a big picture question. There's definitely places improved, but it's tough to
- 28:45want more. It's tough to want more than what we had. And Dak's
- 28:48not wrong, plays a bad offense. So how are we will we get
- 28:52better on the defensive end? You know, you know, after I said
- 29:00defense is good, they after Austin brought up your offense putting you ons turnovers
- 29:04situations, your defense dill playing good, they were, I don't know,
- 29:07think about that. I don't know how you can want much more that.
- 29:12And that's where I'll see how we'll see how hungary this coaching staff and these
- 29:18players are too, because we need to keep Tony White here, we'll see
- 29:22how much we're willing to give to keep him around. I know the official
- 29:26report came out that he interviewed with San Diego State. So I'm with you
- 29:30a lot. This is the last big thing, and there's a lot more
- 29:32that we probably could add to this category. What has Matt Ruhle learned about
- 29:38situational football at the college level? If there was one negative, big negative
- 29:48thing, and I think that I saw from rule was a lot of the
- 29:52time and situation parts of the game. I mean, first half and second
- 29:56half. There's a lot. And again you can pick specific situations, but
- 30:02at a big picture, I don't think the clock management and game management was
- 30:07great. That seemed to be the one thing that kept coming up. So
- 30:11again, what was learned. It's different than the NFL, totally different.
- 30:15We talked back and forth about these losses at the end of the year,
- 30:22like what was learned from that? If any Yeah, I hope something has
- 30:26learned. If something probably has been learned, I will. I don't want
- 30:30to give him an excuse, but managing an end of a game is so
- 30:36hard when you have quarterbacks who are willing to turn it over anytime you throw
- 30:40the ball or fumble the ball, and you have a kicker who's like I
- 30:44can put it in good from sixty five, but could also miss it from
- 30:45twenty two. I mean that those those are just what you need to end
- 30:52the games, is ball security and a consistent kicking game, and we did
- 30:55not have either of those. Makes it real tough to call in it the
- 30:57last two minutes. Yeah, I hope his timeout situations at the end of
- 31:07games I didn't like that much. I think it needs to work on that
- 31:11wisconsinct especially. I still don't know why he wastes so much time there,
- 31:15and I can't I still can't remember what the I think his first half timeout
- 31:19situation too, I can't remember what the hell it was. But there's just
- 31:22a lot of little things I guess from a This is the other thing that's
- 31:27another in his defense that I love. I heard this on a podcast earlier
- 31:33this year. This is kind of weird to think about, but coaches in
- 31:37college football and NFL, they don't watch games from start to finish like a
- 31:42fan does. When they turn on games, they're watching clips. They're watching
- 31:48specific plays. We watched so much, so many more games so to us.
- 31:53Sometimes the time management seems very easy. Take a time out right now,
- 31:56take a time out and they waste a secon Why that helld you did
- 32:00you take it eight seconds ago? Like we see it on TV, and
- 32:04we see so many situations we know sometimes better than they do. So a
- 32:08little bit of a catch twenty two. They're keep in mind that, like
- 32:12they need to get somebody on stats, say no time out now we will
- 32:15go like that kind of stuff. So okay, yeah, I want to
- 32:19add Yeah, I was gonna say, I want to add two quick things
- 32:22I learned. Yea one, Donny Riola. We got two big ten all
- 32:29honor like honorable mentions. Olignement might actually be a better O line coach than
- 32:34we thought. Maybe. I like that one a lot. I was pleasantly
- 32:38surprised with that. They were not They did not stick out in a negative
- 32:44way like they have the past couple of years. They were not talked and
- 32:46they were not praised. They weren't two of them were praised big ten honorable
- 32:51mention. Yeah, Bryce Benhart, who we thought was terrible, Oh god,
- 32:55actually good. Yeah. Uh. The other one under valued seniority on
- 33:00the defensive side of the ball. Definitely coming into the Air should have seen
- 33:04that one coming. I think we're gonna miss a lot of those older guys
- 33:06leaving agreed. I'm with you, all right, Dak. Let's play this
- 33:13game, all right, we're gonna play this or that. Oh boy,
- 33:22here, I will over under six and a half points for their game under
- 33:30over defense is gonna score a touchdown. I like that, all right,
- 33:37we'll do for the future. Who would rather have as a Husker coach right
- 33:39now? Which I would wish? Would ask this about four weeks ago?
- 33:43Matt Ruler? Dion Matt r Yeah, yeah, that's about four weeks too
- 33:50late, right there. That's who would you take? Oh boy, probably
- 33:57Matt rule right now? That's where we a that's no question, dionne I
- 34:02don't know what happens first, Nebraskat fotball wins a playoff game or Nebraska basketball
- 34:08makes a Final four. Give give me the playoff game football win? Yes,
- 34:17now you change that to make a Sweet sixteen, Oh, brasketball.
- 34:25I couldn't make it easy on you. I would take the brasketball if it's
- 34:30Sweet sixteen, but I'm taking football if it's the final four. Yep,
- 34:34I'm with you. Sixteen. Here's the one I was talking about quarterbacks earlier,
- 34:43kJ Jefferson or Will Howard. Who would you rather have as your quarterback
- 34:45next year? Probably Will Howard. Guys, Will Howard fits my proto type
- 34:54perfect of what I want. I was watch in that case Staate gave until
- 34:59they lost on Saturday. Oh my god, wouldn't it be nice to have
- 35:01Will Howard as or quarterback? Said we'd start six and oh if Will Howard
- 35:07comes here, I actually say that I might have some alcohol of me.
- 35:10You definitely will confience at six and oh one, no quarterback. So guys,
- 35:16Will Howard would be just a little step ahead, like he's not gonna
- 35:21be an elite guy like kJ Jefferson would would be the worry that I would
- 35:24have saturdafilla and say, oh my god, we got k J. Jefferson.
- 35:28Let's sling it around like we're not doing that with Will Howard. We're
- 35:30just doing what we did this year a little better and not turning it over
- 35:34because Will Howard's surehanded. Oh I would love Will Howard. I'd be happy
- 35:38either one if I was a Husker fan. All right, two more questions.
- 35:45Who is the better coach in Nebraska? Scott Frost or Mike Riley.
- 35:49Mike Riley found a doubt Mike Riley, I guess guess he will. I
- 36:01always said that, And no, no, Deck, you don't know what
- 36:05you're talking about. Huh okay, all right? For the playoffs? Would
- 36:12you out of these three? I guess Georgian be into But these three,
- 36:17who would you pick to go to the playoffs? Undefeated florest State, one
- 36:21last Texas or one last Bama for the final spot? One lost Texas of
- 36:29underfeet of Florida State? Yes, yeah, undefeated Florida State. I think
- 36:37so too, But that would be it's gonna be a hell of an argument
- 36:38that comes down to that. I don't I mean, I I would respect
- 36:44if they put Bama in with one loss, but I don't think anybody wants
- 36:46that to happen just because they've been in it so many times. You can't
- 36:50put Bama in over Texas because Texas beat them at Bama. Yep, yeah,
- 36:55I hate Texas, but you can't put them. You can't put Bama
- 36:59in over Texas. And then you're just saying the games don't matter exactly.
- 37:02So there's a lot more talk about here playoff discussion. I think there's it's
- 37:07juicy this year, guys, it's it's it's juicy, it is Sunday will
- 37:14be a spicy one maybe, or it will be blaming. Will be four
- 37:16undefeated teams in the playoffs. And it's just a really lazy option for the
- 37:20College Ball Playoff Committee, which was for himed, so we just didn't put
- 37:22in undefeated teams. But whatever, it's fine. That's a big day playoffs
- 37:25and and biggas basketball game in years. And Nebraska's coming off of a win
- 37:30over Creton, right that give us your lock, give us your lock of
- 37:37the weekend. Oh, this might be lock of the this is lock of
- 37:40the year. Georgia mins final and a half. Oh god damn it.
- 37:44Well, Alabama's winning fact lock of the years are zeroing too. I think
- 37:53Georgia kicks the ship out of Alabama, say for winning the SEC Championship,
- 38:02and then I'll clam and wins SC next year. That's exactly how it's not
- 38:07gonna go that great game of this or that. Really was just asking questions
- 38:12to us, But this or that, I guess, hey, two options
- 38:15this or that? All right, We'll be back on Sunday. Go be
- 38:22red Bloomer sooner, all right, that
