- 0:17Speaker 1: chat room with Greg Cosell and get to ask him
- 0:20Speaker 1: their tape breakdown questions directly and they get Greg's responses.
- 0:25Speaker 1: It's one of the most popular shows we have on Patreon.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You can get the full version of this show and

- 1:06Speaker 2: So I just wondered if Great Cosell was going to
- 1:09Speaker 2: say with what the Eagles are good at what they're
- 1:12Speaker 2: struggling with right now, like what would you do to
- 1:14Speaker 2: get their run game going if you had the power
- 1:16Speaker 2: to the thing?
- 1:18Speaker 3: We don't know? And actually Cam Jurgens came out this
- 1:20Speaker 3: week Chris and basically said that his back is still
- 1:23Speaker 3: bothering him and he's not not one hundred percent, but
- 1:26Speaker 3: he obviously wants to be out there because no player
- 1:28Speaker 3: wants to sit. That's a hard question to answer because
- 1:33Speaker 3: maybe at this moment in time, because he obviously is
- 1:35Speaker 3: very athletic. I'm sure you probably remember that he when
- 1:38Speaker 3: he came in in Nebraska, he actually went to Nebraska
- 1:40Speaker 3: as a tight end and they moved him to center.
- 1:43Speaker 3: So he obviously is a more athletic guy. But it's
- 1:46Speaker 3: very possible that he just at this point in time
- 1:49Speaker 3: can't quite do those things yet.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It's just a thought because they certainly have not worked
- 1:55Speaker 3: outside in the run game. There's got to be reasons
- 1:57Speaker 3: for that that, as I said, probably think we don't
- 2:00Speaker 3: know that player speaking about to Barkley came in no huddle,
- 2:05Speaker 3: which they used really really effectively on their second possession
- 2:09Speaker 3: and then didn't really come back to it except for
- 2:11Speaker 3: a few selective plays here and there, and hadn't really
- 2:14Speaker 3: used it much through the first four games. Last year.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Was really a staple of what they did regularly, and
- 2:20Speaker 3: it was very successful. Again, you know a lot of
- 2:23Speaker 3: these questions, Chris, I can't tell you why I'm not there.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I can only tell you, you know, what the tape shows.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I can't speak to the process of how they go
- 2:31Speaker 3: about thinking what they want their offense to look like
- 2:34Speaker 3: and game planning, and you know, I can't speak to
- 2:36Speaker 3: the process.
- 2:37Speaker 5: So two years ago, it looks like, you know, the Eagles,
- 2:39Speaker 5: they couldn't handle the blitz right in the past game,
- 2:41Speaker 5: that was the big nightmare. Now it seems to me
- 2:44Speaker 5: it's very simple to beat them. Just rush three or
- 2:46Speaker 5: four guys in play zone. They cannot beat zone defense
- 2:49Speaker 5: in terms of passing the football. And I want to
- 2:51Speaker 5: ask you, why why is it now that looks like, hey,
- 2:54Speaker 5: if they blitz and they play man coverage the past
- 2:56Speaker 5: game seems to work. And then the simple adjustment of
- 2:59Speaker 5: just rushing three or four guys dropping in the zone,
- 3:01Speaker 5: playing too high, and then boom, it's over and they
- 3:04Speaker 5: have no answers? Is it route concepts? Is a jailen hurts?
- 3:07Speaker 5: What are you seeing?
- 3:08Speaker 3: I mean, I can only speak to what I know,
- 3:11Speaker 3: and you know what I interpret from film. I'm not
- 3:15Speaker 3: a blueprint guy. So in other words, that doesn't automatically
- 3:18Speaker 3: mean just to start the answer that every team's going
- 3:20Speaker 3: to do that. That means it's gonna work every week
- 3:23Speaker 3: and they can't play because it never works like that
- 3:26Speaker 3: in the league. There are some weeks certain things work,
- 3:28Speaker 3: and then a team might try something similar to the
- 3:29Speaker 3: next week, and you know what, it doesn't work. So yeah,
- 3:32Speaker 3: but just to speak to Jalen hurts strengths and weaknesses.
- 3:36Speaker 3: What Jalen Hurts is not and it was frustrating for
- 3:39Speaker 3: Kellen Moore. I happen to know it's frustrating for the
- 3:41Speaker 3: quarterback coach now as well. Is Jalen is not a
- 3:45Speaker 3: window thrower, and that's what you have to be able
- 3:48Speaker 3: to do against zone. You've got to be able to
- 3:50Speaker 3: work between the numbers and make window throws that require
- 3:54Speaker 3: anticipation timing. Balls must be thrown before receivers get into
- 4:00Speaker 3: that window because if you wait too long, then they're
- 4:03Speaker 3: past that window and you get the backside defender who's
- 4:06Speaker 3: sitting right there. That's not the strength of his game,
- 4:09Speaker 3: never was at this point in his career, it won't be.
- 4:13Speaker 6: So my question, you have talked about jail and specifically
- 4:16Speaker 6: in your tape career watching teams for what you've been
- 4:19Speaker 6: thing like about fifteen years now, Greg, fifteen or so. Yeah,
- 4:23Speaker 6: I mean, okay, great, by the way you lose and wait,
- 4:26Speaker 6: but uh.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I am thank you. By the way, I got on
- 4:29Speaker 3: the gym five six days a week. Thank you to
- 4:31Speaker 3: the question.
- 4:33Speaker 6: The question is ultimately, but we also saw people grow,
- 4:36Speaker 6: they got really good soul. Do you see quo of
- 4:38Speaker 6: the course of their career, like Jaalen get the bigger
- 4:42Speaker 6: you know, bigger box, see the feel better? Is there
- 4:44Speaker 6: a growth there? Are you just kind of like you
- 4:46Speaker 6: got or you don't forgive this a little QUI but
- 4:48Speaker 6: I want to give my perspective little bit.
- 4:50Speaker 3: No, No, it's a great question. I think that that's
- 4:53Speaker 3: a case by case. I think there are some quarterbacks
- 4:55Speaker 3: that that can happen with and I think that there
- 4:57Speaker 3: are others that it can't. A lot of it also
- 5:01Speaker 3: depends on how a coach structures an offense and how
- 5:04Speaker 3: he presents it to him so that you know, which
- 5:08Speaker 3: is one reason why. There's obviously, like in any professional
- 5:11Speaker 3: like you just indicated about people you've been with in
- 5:13Speaker 3: your career, there's obviously coaches who can present it in
- 5:16Speaker 3: a way that is total clarity for a quarterback, and
- 5:19Speaker 3: there's other coach.
- 5:20Speaker 6: In climate it's a good culture of the command and
- 5:22Speaker 6: we you know, and then we have pilots that we're like, hey,
- 5:24Speaker 6: this guy's really good at this, this guy's really good thing.
- 5:27Speaker 6: I could do everything. So ultimately it's about the culture.
- 5:29Speaker 6: How you're going to basically how I put it, How
- 5:32Speaker 6: you're going to direct your weapon, how you going to
- 5:34Speaker 6: do it.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I mean it's very clear. For instance, and I know
- 5:37Speaker 3: him personally and I haven't been out to his camp,
- 5:41Speaker 3: which I hope to do next year, but Kevin O'Connell
- 5:43Speaker 3: clearly understands how to present material to quarterbacks. Because Carson
- 5:48Speaker 3: Wentz has now played three weeks in a row and
- 5:50Speaker 3: he looks like he did almost in twenty seventeen with
- 5:53Speaker 3: the Eagles. You know, he's calm, he's comfortable, he's not reckless,
- 5:57Speaker 3: he's not getting sacked, he's getting rid of the foot
- 6:00Speaker 3: fall to the right guy at the right time. So
- 6:02Speaker 3: obviously that's coaching because for the last three four years
- 6:06Speaker 3: and every played he looked like he was you know,
- 6:08Speaker 3: he had really no idea, you know, And so it's
- 6:12Speaker 3: it's coaching. So it's all how it's presented to quarterbacks. Now,
- 6:17Speaker 3: if you truly cannot see the field, Dan, you know,
- 6:20Speaker 3: if you're just one of those guys, it's not likely
- 6:23Speaker 3: you're all of a sudden going to be great at that.
- 6:25Speaker 7: How how does Jordan looking on at tackle Jordan Davis? No, okay, left, Jordan, Yeah,
- 6:37Speaker 7: I don't think he's go ahead, no goodhead.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I was just gonna say, I don't think he's played
- 6:42Speaker 3: as well this year as he has in the last
- 6:43Speaker 3: couple of years. You know, he hasn't been a true
- 6:47Speaker 3: liability al but I don't think he's played quite at
- 6:49Speaker 3: the same level that he's played at the last couple
- 6:53Speaker 3: of years. And I think the old line, you know
- 6:55Speaker 3: that's sort of the elephant in the room now, is
- 6:57Speaker 3: because they've been the best old line in football for
- 6:59Speaker 3: three years. Again just the assumption great old line well,
- 7:02Speaker 3: which in August that statement is very fair. They've been
- 7:05Speaker 3: the best all line. This year, the old line, quite frankly,
- 7:08Speaker 3: is not playing at the necessary level and that's been
- 7:11Speaker 3: an issue, There's no question about it.
- 7:13Speaker 8: Hey, I wanted to ask about the hurry up offense.
- 7:15Speaker 8: Are you seeing when they do a hurry up off fins?
- 7:18Speaker 8: Is it that it's always man on the other side?
- 7:21Speaker 8: And do they need it first down to get it started? Well,
- 7:26Speaker 8: normally a lot of teams do it that way. I
- 7:27Speaker 8: mean again, that's that's for whatever reason, that seems to
- 7:30Speaker 8: be foundational mark to the way a lot of teams
- 7:33Speaker 8: that use the no huddle tempo, the way they do.
- 7:36Speaker 3: It is if they let's say they want to do
- 7:39Speaker 3: no like the Eagles did on that second drive. Normally,
- 7:42Speaker 3: obviously the first play can't be no huddle because you're
- 7:44Speaker 3: starting a play. But normally, if you know, gain good
- 7:47Speaker 3: yards or get a first down, they go right into
- 7:50Speaker 3: the no huddle. So let's say you gain eight yards,
- 7:52Speaker 3: you go right into no huddle. Teams will rarely go
- 7:55Speaker 3: into no huddle if they gain two yards. You know,
- 7:57Speaker 3: it just doesn't for whatever reason. Market doesn't work that way,
- 8:00Speaker 3: you know. But and then you just keep going with
- 8:03Speaker 3: it because what happens is almost always you get a
- 8:08Speaker 3: predictable front.
- 8:09Speaker 1: And pay fall is planting season. Did you know that

- 10:42Speaker 4: So I want to flip the script here talk about
- 10:45Speaker 4: the defense a little bit. Sure he may be having
- 10:48Speaker 4: some currency bias, but it seems to me that we're
- 10:55Speaker 4: missing more tackles in general this year, and we did,
- 11:01Speaker 4: let's say toward the end of last year, because I
- 11:04Speaker 4: can't remember at the beginning of the year, and are
- 11:08Speaker 4: you seeing that too or is it just my imagination.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I would say that's fair to some extent. I mean,
- 11:16Speaker 3: I don't you know, I don't chart that, but I
- 11:18Speaker 3: would say that that's that's noticeable at times, for sure.
- 11:22Speaker 3: You know, I and I love him as a player,
- 11:25Speaker 3: but I think Blankenship has missed probably a few more
- 11:27Speaker 3: tackles this year than we've seen in the past. You know,
- 11:30Speaker 3: that was always the strength of his game, not to
- 11:32Speaker 3: the point where I think, oh my god, this guy's
- 11:33Speaker 3: you know, shouldn't be out there or anything like that.
- 11:35Speaker 3: But I would say that that's a that's a fair statement.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I it's sort of like the defense version of
- 11:42Speaker 4: the offensive line not playing up to snuff so far,
- 11:46Speaker 4: or up to I mean.
- 11:47Speaker 3: To a certain I think overall the defense has not
- 11:51Speaker 3: been a problem the way you know in this you know,
- 11:53Speaker 3: it's I mean, I know people might look at the
- 11:55Speaker 3: fourth quarter this week and think, and if someone wants
- 11:58Speaker 3: to ask about it, we can certainly talk about what happened,
- 12:00Speaker 3: But you know, I don't think that that's I don't
- 12:03Speaker 3: think the defense has been a problem overall. Though good stuff,
- 12:06Speaker 3: really good. That was that was fun. Thank you, h
- 12:16Speaker 6: Okay okay,
