- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, is this a sponsor, Well.
- 0:02Speaker 2: This is Pride to you by nineteen College College. It's
- 0:06Speaker 2: the wonderful time of the week. When we talked to
- 0:09Speaker 2: Elina Wood from Nightingale College, good morning, Happy New Year.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Hello, Hello, Happy New Year to you as well.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Now, Alena, we start off the year and where a
- 0:21Speaker 2: lot of people make resolutions, we're gonna we're gonna make
- 0:25Speaker 2: set goals for the twenty twenty five and then talk
- 0:28Speaker 2: by the end of maybe this week they're gone.
- 0:31Speaker 1: No, we're gonna it's gonna work this year.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Back, how do you maintain this year?
- 0:34Speaker 3: We're going to do it. How do you be different
- 0:36Speaker 3: this year?
- 0:37Speaker 2: Okay, how do we do it?
- 0:39Speaker 3: So we got to maintain that momentum throughout the year.
- 0:43Speaker 3: And the very first step, which might sound pretty simple,
- 0:47Speaker 3: is to set specific goals. So define what success actually
- 0:53Speaker 3: looks like for you. So, for example, instead of saying
- 0:57Speaker 3: I'm going to drink more water, set a specific goal
- 1:01Speaker 3: of maybe drinking two leaders per day.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Okay, So get very specific and don't say you know,
- 1:09Speaker 1: and by the end of the year, I want to
- 1:10Speaker 1: be doing this, say I want here's what I want
- 1:13Speaker 1: to do today?
- 1:14Speaker 3: Yes, exactly.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I love that today, but well you can't. So I
- 1:20Speaker 2: want to make a million dollars this year, but I
- 1:23Speaker 2: have okay, but I have to set it up so
- 1:25Speaker 2: that I say, how much are you making today? I
- 1:27Speaker 2: will make probably eighty four dollars?
- 1:34Speaker 3: And what are you going to do today that will
- 1:37Speaker 3: help move you towards that overall goal?
- 1:40Speaker 2: What are you going to do? Rob a bank?
- 1:46Speaker 3: I do not encourage that.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I'm on the wrong track. Now, let's just move on.
- 1:51Speaker 3: So the next step is to visualize your success using
- 1:56Speaker 3: tools like vision boards. Positive affirmations and meditations can help
- 2:03Speaker 3: you to picture what success looks like, and tools like
- 2:07Speaker 3: that vision board can really help to remind you of
- 2:10Speaker 3: what those overall goals are, especially on days when you
- 2:13Speaker 3: just don't feel like doing it.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Now, maybe I don't really know what a vision board is.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Essentially, it is either a digital or physical product that
- 2:26Speaker 3: has pictures of what you'd like your life to look like.
- 2:29Speaker 2: I see, okay, all right, yeah, I'm going to put
- 2:32Speaker 2: a put a picture of somebody really handsome in front
- 2:35Speaker 2: of me and look like that.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Absolutely. The next step is to track your progress using
- 2:48Speaker 3: a tool like a journal or app, just keeping track
- 2:52Speaker 3: of the steps that you're taking along the way as
- 2:55Speaker 3: well as those milestones that you're reaching day to day,
- 2:59Speaker 3: week to week, month to month.
- 3:01Speaker 2: What happens when so let's say you're tracking your weight
- 3:05Speaker 2: and it keeps going up and stead down and then
- 3:09Speaker 2: you end up you end up throwing your phone on
- 3:11Speaker 2: the floor. I mean, you're just yeah, it's very discouraging sometimes.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Absolutely, And you know, another reason we track is so
- 3:20Speaker 3: that we can see if we need to make adjustments
- 3:22Speaker 3: to to our habits and what we're doing each day.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And you know, we in particular can be one of
- 3:30Speaker 3: those little bit more frustrating things. Just remind yourself that
- 3:34Speaker 3: weight's going to fluctuate day to day, week to week,
- 3:38Speaker 3: and as long as you're over time making some progress,
- 3:42Speaker 3: that one or two days where maybe you had some
- 3:45Speaker 3: extra water or sodium and you're a little bloated are
- 3:48Speaker 3: not the end of the world.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Did I just bloated?
- 3:52Speaker 1: I've been doing this with with my blood pressure and
- 3:59Speaker 1: taking it all every day, And you're right, if you
- 4:02Speaker 1: don't do it all the time, you could kind of
- 4:04Speaker 1: freak out about it. But when you look at the
- 4:06Speaker 1: whole picture rather than just one day, you're like, Okay,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I had a bad day, for whatever reason, but it's
- 4:13Speaker 1: better generally.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Oh those the day I hate that crawler. All right, well,
- 4:19Speaker 2: now what do we do track your progress? Then? What's
- 4:22Speaker 2: the support system?
- 4:24Speaker 3: Yes, establish a support system. Surround yourself with friends and
- 4:28Speaker 3: family that support your goals and maybe even accountability buddies
- 4:33Speaker 3: who are working toward the same or similar goals. And
- 4:37Speaker 3: if you need something a little more, think about working
- 4:40Speaker 3: with a coach, a mentor a counselor a professional who
- 4:45Speaker 3: can help you kind of move forward.
- 4:47Speaker 2: You know. And this is now, this is absolutely true,
- 4:49Speaker 2: and it'll sound like I'm making a joke, but I
- 4:51Speaker 2: have the tendency. Let's say I want to stop drinking
- 4:55Speaker 2: for a month and they say, so you should. You
- 4:57Speaker 2: should set up a buddy, know, somebody that you who
- 5:01Speaker 2: loves you and say I'm going to want to be
- 5:03Speaker 2: accountable to you and I want to, Yes, so keep
- 5:06Speaker 2: help me keep on track. But I don't do that
- 5:09Speaker 2: because I'm afraid that I will disappoint them all you
- 5:14Speaker 2: know what I mean. It's like I'll be embarrassed. I
- 5:17Speaker 2: haven't so but that's just me. That's anyway, support system,
- 5:24Speaker 2: reward yourself.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Reward yourself. And this just means celebrating those little milestones
- 5:30Speaker 3: along the way. And part of this is if you're tracking,
- 5:33Speaker 3: you're going to be able to see those small pieces
- 5:36Speaker 3: of success as you're going. And these celebrations can be
- 5:40Speaker 3: anything giving yourself a high five, throwing yourself a dance party,
- 5:46Speaker 3: maybe even purchasing something that is connected with that goal,
- 5:50Speaker 3: you know, if you're trying to drink more water, maybe
- 5:53Speaker 3: buying a really fancy water bottle.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Okay, listen, we have to wrap it up here. Yes,
- 5:58Speaker 2: stay flexible, that's the last one. Just give yourself a break.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Right, exactly exactly.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Where can we find out more about this? Elena?
- 6:08Speaker 3: You can learn more about this as well as Nightingale's
- 6:11Speaker 3: amazing programs by visiting Nightingales dot edu.
