A series of strange cryptids have been encountered by numerous people that have been labeled “Slothfoot,” said to resemble prehistoric ground sloths, and have been sighted across North America over the past century, up to recent years. In 1797, Thomas Jefferson presented a paper on the bones of a creature he named Megalonyx, or "giant claw.” He asked Lewis and Clark, as they planned their famous expedition in 1804–1806, to keep an eye out for living specimens.
