Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Jeff Moscher now from the Inside the Birds podcast is
- 0:03Speaker 1: here on a football at for Monday next week. On Tuesday,
- 0:07Speaker 1: the Eagles are back on the practice field for mini camps,
- 0:11Speaker 1: some voluntary stuff. But Jeff, we are counting down the days.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I guess to June first, and there are some murmurs
- 0:17Speaker 1: that more teams may be involved on AJ Brown. What
- 0:22Speaker 1: does your take of all of a sudden possible teams might
- 0:26Speaker 1: be interested in AJ Brown?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Or is just the smoke screen here?
- 0:29Speaker 3: A little bit of both, But I mean there are teams, Mike.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Now that you're through the big part of the offseason
- 0:36Speaker 4: on the free agency and now that you're through the
- 0:38Speaker 4: NFL draft, teams reevaluate they look at their fifty three.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I thought a couple of.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Teams that could really use a wide receiver were the
- 0:48Speaker 4: Commanders the Rams. We know we're looking at wide receiver
- 0:51Speaker 4: and we're involved in at least discussions on AJ Brown
- 0:55Speaker 4: and some other teams. So I thought Juwan Jennings interestingly
- 0:59Speaker 4: was going to go to one of those teams, and
- 1:01Speaker 4: then Jennings wound up going to I think Minnesota is
- 1:05Speaker 4: where he is, which I thought, yeah, So, I.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Mean, you still have the Rams still the Commanders.
- 1:10Speaker 4: You're still a couple other teams that I think could
- 1:12Speaker 4: use this third receiver or a slot receiver, or a
- 1:16Speaker 4: receiver like AJ Brown that pushes there one or two
- 1:19Speaker 4: down a wrong And you know, the Texans are a
- 1:22Speaker 4: team that I think can can still. I know they
- 1:24Speaker 4: drafted a lot of guys last year, but the issue
- 1:27Speaker 4: is also that Stefan Diggs and Keenan Allen are still
- 1:31Speaker 4: out there. I think those guys are really kind of
- 1:33Speaker 4: productive number three.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Guys who can come in and help you.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know it would be interesting. I want
- 1:39Speaker 1: to get your take on you know, a J.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Brown.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Everybody just assumes he's going to go to the Patriots.
- 1:43Speaker 1: There's been a wide range of reporting on what they
- 1:45Speaker 1: could get a twenty twenty eight first round pick. I
- 1:49Speaker 1: saw Bouti's uh Kasehawn Bouti's name brought up today as
- 1:52Speaker 1: someone they could give back to Philadelphia a first round
- 1:57Speaker 1: pick in twenty twenty eight. I wouldn't be thrilled with.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Maybe in twenty twenty eight. I might come around on that.
- 2:03Speaker 1: But are you in the same boat where if they
- 2:05Speaker 1: trade AJ Brown, you would like to see them get
- 2:07Speaker 1: them get something back to help this team out.
- 2:12Speaker 3: No, No, not necessarily. Well, I don't think.
- 2:16Speaker 4: I mean, there's no player that the page unless you're
- 2:18Speaker 4: know you're getting like Christian Gonzales, then I think is
- 2:22Speaker 4: going to help you out as much as you might
- 2:24Speaker 4: think in exchange for AJ Brown, you want the top
- 2:27Speaker 4: commodity and value, and that's going to be in a
- 2:29Speaker 4: draft pick. And that's not obviously going to be uh
- 2:32Speaker 4: this past draft, it will be the future.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Well, and the guy that you Christian Gonzales, by the way,
- 2:38Speaker 1: I mean, I can't imagine the I can't imagine the Patriots.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Are all that excitation.
- 2:42Speaker 3: No, they're not doing that.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, well tell some of my listeners that.
- 2:47Speaker 4: They're trying to get back to the super Bowl, not
- 2:49Speaker 4: break even, you know, like that's.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I'm just saying.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I've been given the trade of AJ Brown for Christian
- 2:55Speaker 1: Gonzales on more than one occasion, and I'm like.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Oh, have you okay, I didn't even realized that I
- 3:00Speaker 3: just threw that out there.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, and I'm like, I don't know what I know.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It's legal to buy nowadays in some areas of the city,
- 3:07Speaker 1: but you shouldn't be using It's between two and six
- 3:10Speaker 1: and then texting.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Me agreed, agreed, that's what's not happening. I'll stop. I
- 3:15Speaker 3: won't do that again either.
- 3:15Speaker 1: One I was gonna say, so, you know, you've got
- 3:18Speaker 1: people all rouled up now, like see Jeff Boucher said
- 3:20Speaker 1: they can get Christian Gonzales.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, just just left my local dispensary and I
- 3:26Speaker 4: just had a weird thought.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I got this question right before you came on. I
- 3:31Speaker 1: thought was kind of interesting. We were talking earlier. So
- 3:34Speaker 1: the spreads for all of the games came out for
- 3:37Speaker 1: the entire season. The Eagles are favored in thirteen games
- 3:40Speaker 1: this season, Dallas is favored in eleven.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Games this season, and.
- 3:45Speaker 1: New York and Washington are both only favored in five
- 3:49Speaker 1: games this season. So I thought that was kind of
- 3:51Speaker 1: an interesting kind of barometer on where the Vegas at
- 3:55Speaker 1: least thinks these teams might be. But Philadelphia being favored
- 3:58Speaker 1: thirteen times sounds like a pretty high number there.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Jeff Moser, Yeah, I would think. So now now you're
- 4:04Speaker 4: gonna have Now I have to do the guessing. I
- 4:07Speaker 4: have to figure out which games they're.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Not going to say so, and that was gonna be So,
- 4:14Speaker 1: which game are they not the favorite. Do you think
- 4:17Speaker 1: there's five of them?
- 4:18Speaker 4: For of them, I was gonna say that the math
- 4:21Speaker 4: was not mathing there for them Thanksgiving at Dallas.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Thanksgiving at Dallas. They are not the favorite.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Okay, I will say season finale in San Francisco.
- 4:35Speaker 2: That is not the season finale. But oh you're right.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I'm sorry. We wait six week seventeen and.
- 4:40Speaker 1: They are also not favored, and that spread is plus
- 4:43Speaker 1: one and a half.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, cool? Two for two huh.
- 4:49Speaker 4: I will say, man, this is tough. Their road games
- 4:55Speaker 4: aren't that difficult that this year? And this is where
- 4:58Speaker 4: I will have about at Bears on Monday, Week three.
- 5:01Speaker 2: At Bears they are a one and a half point dog.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Okay, so three for three huns one more, I guess.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Because the Jaguars won thirteen games. Although it's a neutral
- 5:14Speaker 4: field London, I don't know how they're gonna rams Seahawks
- 5:22Speaker 4: at home, Texans at home. Yeah, ah, man, that's tough.
- 5:31Speaker 4: I guess I'm gonna go Jackson.
- 5:32Speaker 1: London, Jackson London. The Eagles are favored by two and
- 5:36Speaker 1: a half over Jacksonville. So there's a different game where
- 5:40Speaker 1: they are well, I mean, I think that's a good guess,
- 5:43Speaker 1: because you're right. I think Jacksonville gets overlooked big time
- 5:46Speaker 1: on the schedule that they won thirteen games, won the division,
- 5:49Speaker 1: and ended the season winning eight straight games. No, they
- 5:52Speaker 1: are not favored. They are actually favored against Seattle.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Okay, wow, then it can't be dolled. I refuse to
- 6:00Speaker 4: believe it's Dallas at home.
- 6:01Speaker 2: It's not Dallas at home.
- 6:02Speaker 1: But to keep this in mind, so one of the
- 6:05Speaker 1: games that they are an underdog in is a home game.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Interesting, I refuse to believe it's the Steelers all Rams.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Okay, we'll go with Rams.
- 6:16Speaker 1: They are a dog against the Rams back home in
- 6:20Speaker 1: Week four, So they are an underdog back to back
- 6:23Speaker 1: weeks Bears and Rams, but they are a favorite thirteen
- 6:27Speaker 1: times the rest of the season.
- 6:29Speaker 2: There.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I thought that was kind of interesting, the fact that
- 6:31Speaker 1: they are a home dog. No, listen, it is the
- 6:33Speaker 1: spreads aer May but these are the preliminary numbers. Dallas,
- 6:37Speaker 1: by the way, is favored in eleven six of games.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Six times they are the underdog this season, so they
- 6:44Speaker 1: appear that they think this is a two team race
- 6:46Speaker 1: between Philly and Dallas.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Do you look at the.
- 6:48Speaker 1: NFC that widespread that it's Philly Dallas here and that
- 6:53Speaker 1: the other two are only favored five times each.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I mean, from a talent standpoint, I get it.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I just think the NFC is gonna East is gonna
- 7:02Speaker 4: offer us something pretty unique this year. I really do
- 7:05Speaker 4: get a feeling it's gonna be a tighter race between
- 7:08Speaker 4: all four teams. And I think I think it's very
- 7:12Speaker 4: possible every team is equal to or better than they
- 7:15Speaker 4: were last year. I think that's possible. I don't know
- 7:20Speaker 4: if that's mathematically possible. I think it is, but I think.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I just I think the Giants can make a big lead. Man,
- 7:27Speaker 4: I really do. I could be crazy, but I do.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. There was another thing, all right. So
- 7:32Speaker 1: a couple questions that have been coming in here for
- 7:35Speaker 1: Jeff for today, we were asking for kind of NFC
- 7:38Speaker 1: East questions today. Dean in Ocean City says, Guys, of
- 7:41Speaker 1: the four starting quarterbacks in the NFC East, which one
- 7:45Speaker 1: would you want to lead your team over the next
- 7:48Speaker 1: three seasons. I find this question to be interesting based
- 7:52Speaker 1: on Daniels and his injury situation from last year and
- 7:57Speaker 1: whether you would kind of put him in. And then Jackson, who,
- 8:00Speaker 1: by the way, I was not the biggest dark guy.
- 8:02Speaker 1: He's kind of changed me a little bit here from
- 8:05Speaker 1: what he did latter. I figured he'd be too small
- 8:07Speaker 1: and would get hurt a lot. He did get hurt,
- 8:09Speaker 1: by the way, but when he played, he was he
- 8:11Speaker 1: was better than I thought he would be.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean still's got a little bit of a
- 8:16Speaker 4: waste to go, which could happen this year. I mean,
- 8:18Speaker 4: he certainly had a good foundation over the next three years. Man,
- 8:24Speaker 4: that's a really difficult question. I mean, I think you know,
- 8:28Speaker 4: you could flip a coin between Jalen and Dak. They're
- 8:32Speaker 4: both good in different ways and good and different things.
- 8:35Speaker 4: But it would not surprise me at all if Jade
- 8:38Speaker 4: and Daniels bounced back.
- 8:39Speaker 3: I mean, he was just hurt, so so hurt last year.
- 8:42Speaker 3: It was hard to get any kind of I just
- 8:45Speaker 3: get any.
- 8:46Speaker 4: Kind of like gauge on his development because he barely played.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and listen, I put I would definitely.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Put Dart fourth on that list, But you know that
- 8:57Speaker 4: could change by the time this year's over.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Well, here's another quot that we got for Jeff.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Jeff, after Daniel's elbow injury, are you concerned about him
- 9:06Speaker 1: as a dual threat quarterback moving forward because of the injury.
- 9:11Speaker 2: You know, that's what happens.
- 9:12Speaker 1: These guys get hurt, then they stop running, and then
- 9:14Speaker 1: that takes away a layer of their of why they're successful.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Well, I didn't, again, only having one year to really
- 9:21Speaker 4: see him, I didn't think he was a bad thrower
- 9:23Speaker 4: of the football or somebody who was so far behind
- 9:26Speaker 4: in the passing element of the game, especially his first year,
- 9:30Speaker 4: compared to his running element. I mean, if he has
- 9:33Speaker 4: the right coaching and the right offense and they give
- 9:36Speaker 4: him a little more weaponry, I think.
- 9:37Speaker 3: He'd be fine throwing the ball a lot more than
- 9:40Speaker 3: running the ball.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Me personally, I agree with that.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I agree that he is a guy that could throw
- 9:45Speaker 1: the football, but I guess the question is, if he
- 9:47Speaker 1: doesn't have the other layer to it, is he as effective?
- 9:51Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I think, is there a quarterback who
- 9:54Speaker 4: if you took away run, Yeah, I mean maybe Aaron
- 9:58Speaker 4: Rodgers prime Aaron Rodgers. But you're talking about unicorns now,
- 10:01Speaker 4: so I don't see any of the NFC East quarterbacks
- 10:05Speaker 4: right now is unicorns or you know, generational.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Daniels was very good as a rookie. Obviously, last year,
- 10:13Speaker 1: the injuries turned it upside down, but very interesting to
- 10:16Speaker 1: see what they do around him, you know, the rest
- 10:19Speaker 1: of the season. But they are favored only five times here.
- 10:21Speaker 1: The other one is Jackson Dart. Guys Russell Wilson out.
- 10:25Speaker 1: It's now Jackson Dart's team having him start from the
- 10:28Speaker 1: beginning of the season. What do you guys think about
- 10:31Speaker 1: Dart's leap in year number two?
- 10:34Speaker 4: Well, I think his development will really be aided by
- 10:39Speaker 4: John Harbaugh's coaching style. You know, they drafted Maunoa, and
- 10:43Speaker 4: I love the fact they're gonna play on my right
- 10:45Speaker 4: card right away because they already got a left tackle
- 10:47Speaker 4: was pretty good. They got a big, old, four hundred
- 10:50Speaker 4: pounds center. Their right tackle, Illumino is actually not bad.
- 10:53Speaker 4: He's a pretty good player. So and they're gonna run
- 10:55Speaker 4: the ball, and they're going to use the quarterbacks running
- 10:59Speaker 4: ability a little bit too. And then with Malik Neighbors
- 11:02Speaker 4: coming back and the tight end likely they're gonna play
- 11:06Speaker 4: a raven style of football. So I don't know how
- 11:10Speaker 4: it's gonna look statistically, but I expect that to be
- 11:13Speaker 4: a benefit. And they have a good defense. They have
- 11:16Speaker 4: good defensive personnel. I've been waiting for them to get
- 11:18Speaker 4: it together. But I mean, like I said, I think
- 11:21Speaker 4: the Giants have the biggest capacity to improve their win total,
- 11:24Speaker 4: obviously because they.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Lost excuse me, so many games last year. But they
- 11:30Speaker 3: have talent. They're not that far to me from.
- 11:33Speaker 4: What the Eagles and the Cowboys have from a individual
- 11:37Speaker 4: talent level.
- 11:38Speaker 1: That's, you know, to me, the Giants are the very
- 11:40Speaker 1: interesting one because you know, I was reading something that
- 11:43Speaker 1: they had leads of double digits in the fourth quarter
- 11:46Speaker 1: like five or six games last year.
- 11:48Speaker 2: And those games ended up being lost.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Is ye just think about if those games now turn
- 11:53Speaker 1: into wins for the Giants, how much different of a
- 11:56Speaker 1: season they end up having. And now having John Harball there,
- 11:59Speaker 1: their hope is that they have a guy that can
- 12:01Speaker 1: help finish those games out by you know, managing those
- 12:04Speaker 1: games better.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:06Speaker 4: And then he added two first round, two top ten
- 12:08Speaker 4: picks to.
- 12:09Speaker 3: That with Rvel Reese.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Right, And now we know I was just doing this random.
- 12:16Speaker 4: I was writing a story for Villy Voice comparing Grenard
- 12:18Speaker 4: to Jalen Phillips, and I went down this kind of
- 12:21Speaker 4: rabbit hole of.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Of pass rushers.
- 12:25Speaker 4: And one thing that NFL Pro tracks is the get
- 12:29Speaker 4: off time for a pass rusher, which is basically the
- 12:32Speaker 4: time it takes to get across the line of scrimmage
- 12:34Speaker 4: from when the ball is snapped. And I don't know
- 12:36Speaker 4: how meaningful it is, Mike, let me just start with
- 12:39Speaker 4: that right away. But obviously some of the best pass
- 12:43Speaker 4: rushers had really good get off times, like Miles Garrett
- 12:47Speaker 4: was among the top, and you know, Nick Benito, I
- 12:51Speaker 4: happen to notice that Abdul Carter's get off time was
- 12:55Speaker 4: like two point thirty nine seconds, and that was almost
- 12:59Speaker 4: a full second faster than some of the better pass
- 13:03Speaker 4: rushers in the league. I was almost shocked by Mike
- 13:06Speaker 4: to read these names and see what it was. What
- 13:09Speaker 4: was going on there. So they got talent?
- 13:15Speaker 1: Yeah, Giants, I remember having you know, we're having these
- 13:18Speaker 1: conversations in May, and you know, when you're having May
- 13:21Speaker 1: football at four as you're talking about a lot of
- 13:22Speaker 1: things that are not gonna happen until five, six months
- 13:25Speaker 1: down the road. And one of the things I remember
- 13:27Speaker 1: last year talking about is the Giants play the Giants
- 13:30Speaker 1: is going to be a pain in the ass last
- 13:31Speaker 1: year because we had talked about all the defense of
- 13:35Speaker 1: outside edge rushing talent that they had kind of compiled
- 13:37Speaker 1: over the years. The problem is none of us really
- 13:40Speaker 1: maximized to what they kind of envisioned.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I don't think, of course not.
- 13:46Speaker 4: I mean they've all yeah, they just haven't had an
- 13:48Speaker 4: adult in the room. They've been mismanaged, they haven't had
- 13:51Speaker 4: good depth which they've worked on this all season, signing
- 13:54Speaker 4: a lot of depth pieces. At some point, it's gonna
- 13:57Speaker 4: come together. I know Eagles fans every time I mentioned
- 14:00Speaker 4: the Giants think it all like, you know, stop, you know,
- 14:03Speaker 4: but at some points, just like Washington two years ago,
- 14:06Speaker 4: I mean, how much of a laughing stock were they
- 14:08Speaker 4: for decades before all of a sudden one quarterback gave
- 14:12Speaker 4: them a twelve and five record. Now for the Giants,
- 14:14Speaker 4: not even about one quarterback. I mean, they've been stockpiling talent.
- 14:18Speaker 4: So it's gonna have to manifest at some point.
- 14:21Speaker 1: All right, Jeff Bosher football for here, and we're gonna
- 14:24Speaker 1: look at the NFC kind of leading into this offseason,
- 14:27Speaker 1: and then the Eagles will get back on the practice
- 14:28Speaker 1: field after the weekend. Here one other question we had
- 14:32Speaker 1: what had to do with Christian Parker transitioning to Christian
- 14:36Speaker 1: Parker's new scheme. How much do you think that helps
- 14:39Speaker 1: Dallas and against Philadelphia, and could that be something that
- 14:43Speaker 1: makes this division up in the air.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Well, the one thing about scheme is that, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 4: and Vic Fangio came in here and did a great job.
- 14:54Speaker 4: But at the same time Vic Fangio came here, they
- 14:57Speaker 4: gave him Cooper to Jane, they gave him Quinya Mitchell.
- 15:00Speaker 3: They gave him three really good pass rushers.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Zach Bond came out of nowhere right to become an
- 15:05Speaker 4: amazing linebacker. So they had the combination of scheme, talent
- 15:10Speaker 4: and a little bit of luck and a guy like
- 15:12Speaker 4: Bond just all of a sudden blossoming into that.
- 15:15Speaker 3: So Dallas now has the scheme. Do they have the
- 15:18Speaker 3: same amount of talent? I don't see that yet, right,
- 15:21Speaker 3: I mean, I mean they're.
- 15:22Speaker 4: Improving it, they're getting better, but they don't have the
- 15:25Speaker 4: pass rushers on the edge that the Eagles have.
- 15:27Speaker 3: They traded Ozeki Doa, Odiggi Zua. You know, they don't
- 15:31Speaker 3: have Parsons anymore.
- 15:32Speaker 4: So, yes, they have Quinn Williams, but their secondary has
- 15:35Speaker 4: to come together. I think they're off ball. Linebackers need
- 15:38Speaker 4: to come together a little more.
- 15:39Speaker 1: So.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I think the scheme will help. The coaching will help.
- 15:43Speaker 4: But I can't put them on like some kind of
- 15:46Speaker 4: great level like the Eagles were for the last three years,
- 15:48Speaker 4: until I see that their talent actually really becomes a
- 15:53Speaker 4: plus level talent.
- 15:54Speaker 1: All right, Football four powered by the Inside the Birds
- 15:56Speaker 1: podcast and of course Memorial Day weekend here Eagles will
- 16:00Speaker 1: be back on the field on the twenty sixth. All
- 16:03Speaker 1: week next week, Eagles back out there. We'll see any
- 16:06Speaker 1: sign of aj Brown. I guess he got married and
- 16:08Speaker 1: nobody showed up.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Well, I wasn't invited. That's why I didn't show up.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I would have brought a nice gift.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I bet you would get fruit basket, all right, No,
- 16:18Speaker 1: no dispensary leftovers.
- 16:22Speaker 3: You know I'm a good gift giver at weddings.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Nice, nice, nice.
- 16:25Speaker 1: All right, man, we'll see you, see you, but Jeff
- 16:27Speaker 1: Boscher Football for powered by the Inside the Birds podcast,
- 16:31Speaker 1: and it's probably to you by the Fanatic Sports Book
- 16:32Speaker 1: at Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City.
