- 0:37Speaker 2: It's quitting time here on a Tuesday afternoon. Welcome in
- 0:41Speaker 2: to Chip Howard's sports talk here on the Zone eleven
- 0:44Speaker 2: fifty A ninety three point seven FM. Caleb fill An
- 0:48Speaker 2: in for Chip today alongside Riley and Trey, and we've
- 0:52Speaker 2: got a little breaking news on the NFL front. Sources
- 1:00Speaker 2: have leaked that Bill Belichick did not get into the
- 1:03Speaker 2: Hall of Fame on the first ballot, so earlier this
- 1:07Speaker 2: month was the voting, and they're not actually going to
- 1:09Speaker 2: announce it until I think early February. But somebody leaked
- 1:15Speaker 2: that Belichick did not get in.
- 1:17Speaker 5: They're waiting until he is fully done from any coaching
- 1:20Speaker 5: at all.
- 1:21Speaker 2: It could be that, but it's also insane that a
- 1:24Speaker 2: coach that has the most Super Bowls ever of any coach.
- 1:28Speaker 6: Winning head coach and is not on the ballot. I
- 1:30Speaker 6: mean that is they're saying he fell forty out of
- 1:33Speaker 6: fifty votes.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Well, but you need forty out of fifty.
- 1:37Speaker 5: Yeah, he fell that.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's insane to me. I mean, he's won eight rings.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Even if you think Tom Brady carried him to half
- 1:44Speaker 2: of those, he's still won it. It's kind of that's
- 1:48Speaker 2: pretty insane to me. But you know, I don't follow
- 1:51Speaker 2: the NFL that closely, so I'm not sure exactly what
- 1:55Speaker 2: the motivation was there, But that's that's wild. Most most
- 2:01Speaker 2: super Bowls. How do you not put in the guy
- 2:03Speaker 2: that has the most, has the most rings out out
- 2:05Speaker 2: of everybody.
- 2:05Speaker 6: Also has the most playoff wins as a head coach,
- 2:08Speaker 6: most playoff appearances, he has the most divisional championships, He's
- 2:11Speaker 6: third overall in wins. I mean, that is insanity.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I don't know, it's pretty wild, but let's uh, let's
- 2:19Speaker 2: move into the the people that are still in the NFL,
- 2:23Speaker 2: not not the people that that are dropped down to
- 2:26Speaker 2: coach college and uh, you know, lose eight games. But anyway,
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm not bitter. Don't mind me, I don't. I don't
- 2:33Speaker 2: hold any grudges. The Bills have signed Joe Brady to
- 2:38Speaker 2: be their next head coach, which was their often as
- 2:42Speaker 2: the coordinator of the last couple of seasons, and I
- 2:44Speaker 2: think that's that's probably good hire. Yeah, I mean it
- 2:46Speaker 2: was known going into this search once they fired Sean
- 2:50Speaker 2: McDermott that who they hired it was pretty much gonna
- 2:53Speaker 2: come down to who Josh Allen had the best relationship with,
- 2:56Speaker 2: or at least that was going to be a really
- 2:58Speaker 2: big part of it. And I ously Brady has he
- 3:02Speaker 2: helped Alan win the MVP in twenty twenty four. They
- 3:06Speaker 2: averaged twenty eight point three points per game in twenty
- 3:10Speaker 2: twenty five, thirty point nine points per game in twenty
- 3:12Speaker 2: twenty four, which was fourth and second in the league, respectively.
- 3:17Speaker 2: So they've been top five in offense both of Brady's
- 3:21Speaker 2: years as the offensive coordinator. And I think this is
- 3:23Speaker 2: his first head coaching job. He didn't head coach in
- 3:25Speaker 2: college either. He was the offensive coordinator for LSU in
- 3:29Speaker 2: twenty nineteen when Joe Burrow had that record breaking season,
- 3:33Speaker 2: but I don't think he's had an opportunity to be
- 3:36Speaker 2: the head guy. So it's gonna be really interesting to see.
- 3:38Speaker 5: What he does.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm excited. I love when offensive coordinators get thrown
- 3:41Speaker 6: into the head coaching position. I also love defensive coach too,
- 3:44Speaker 6: but I don't know, there's something different that they bring
- 3:46Speaker 6: into the mix, and just to see how they want
- 3:48Speaker 6: to run their offense. I mean, this year, the Bill's season,
- 3:51Speaker 6: they were ranked fourth in scoring and total yards, and
- 3:55Speaker 6: they're also ranked second in yards per rushing attempt. So
- 3:57Speaker 6: I mean it's gonna be and he's all gonna have
- 4:00Speaker 6: a majority of his team still and then also picking
- 4:02Speaker 6: up people in the draft. I don't know. I think
- 4:03Speaker 6: it's gonna be pretty exciting to see what he does
- 4:05Speaker 6: when he takes over this franchise.
- 4:07Speaker 5: For whatever my opinion is worth, I think this is
- 4:10Speaker 5: a really good hire for the Bills because if it's
- 4:12Speaker 5: somebody from the inside that already knows Josh Allen, like
- 4:16Speaker 5: I would saying names thrown out for possible like Bill's
- 4:19Speaker 5: head coaching job, like Brian Dable who was the Giants
- 4:22Speaker 5: head coach and he got fired halfway through the season.
- 4:24Speaker 5: I was like, are we really gonna hire him? I
- 4:26Speaker 5: feel like that's almost a downgrade. So I think this
- 4:29Speaker 5: is a much better route than you know, no shade.
- 4:33Speaker 5: But like Mike McCarthy, I think this is so much better.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I don't know that's that's an interesting one. But Mike
- 4:38Speaker 2: McCarthy to Pittsburgh. I could see that going either way.
- 4:42Speaker 5: I agree with what C said yesterday, like it's not
- 4:44Speaker 5: a long term decision. Sure, like it's to win one game,
- 4:49Speaker 5: get a little bit over the hump. You haven't made
- 4:50Speaker 5: it over, but you're not really gonna win you know,
- 4:53Speaker 5: four super Bowls in the upcoming decade with Mike McCarthy, Well.
- 4:58Speaker 2: If he gets you one, you're happy though, right, I
- 5:00Speaker 2: mean they that so everybody, not everybody. It looked like
- 5:06Speaker 2: they were gonna go after you know what the Bills
- 5:08Speaker 2: did with a coordinator higher, maybe somebody a little younger,
- 5:11Speaker 2: like like Joe Brady, which I think Brady and then
- 5:16Speaker 2: Jesse Mentor who's the Ravens new head coach. Those are
- 5:18Speaker 2: the only two. I don't know how old Jeff Hafley is,
- 5:22Speaker 2: But those two I know are pretty new to being
- 5:26Speaker 2: a head coach. The rest of the hires so far
- 5:29Speaker 2: this year Steelers Mike McCarthy, Giants getting darn Harball obviously
- 5:34Speaker 2: a proven coach. It'll be really interesting to see what
- 5:37Speaker 2: he can do on a new team with.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Jackson, Dark Camp, Scotti, bow Eliite neighbors.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Like, Yeah, I'm excited that one's gonna be. I am
- 5:44Speaker 2: very very interested in that one for sure.
- 5:46Speaker 6: Well, him and McCarthy and uh, what's his name just
- 5:51Speaker 6: left my mind?
- 5:52Speaker 2: Which team? Aaron Rodgers? Yeah, yeah, I mean they had
- 5:57Speaker 2: a lot of success in Green Bay. Yes, And McCarthy
- 6:00Speaker 2: has said publicly, I think in his introductory press conference
- 6:03Speaker 2: he yeah. He was asked if he would like Rogers
- 6:06Speaker 2: to return, and he said, definitely. Don't see why you wouldn't.
- 6:10Speaker 2: So as long as their relationships still intact, that should
- 6:15Speaker 2: be an interesting dynamic to see how that goes. The
- 6:19Speaker 2: Bills defensive coordinator Hunt, they're looking at Broncos defensive pass
- 6:24Speaker 2: coordinator Jim Leonard, who I mean, the Broncos have had
- 6:27Speaker 2: one of the best defense in the league this year,
- 6:29Speaker 2: So if they get him, I think that's pretty solid higher.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I saw some people joking around about them just hiring
- 6:33Speaker 2: Sean McDermott to be the defensive coordinator, which would be hilarious,
- 6:37Speaker 2: But I don't think that's gonna happen, at least not
- 6:39Speaker 2: this year. The Broncos have actually done that vance Joseph
- 6:43Speaker 2: who I believe is a Broncos defensive coordinator right now.
- 6:47Speaker 2: He was the Broncos head coach like five years ago.
- 6:50Speaker 2: So it has happened, but I don't think it's an
- 6:52Speaker 2: immediate thing. I think that's gonna have to be a
- 6:54Speaker 2: cool year heels a little bit before you just jump
- 6:58Speaker 2: back in. I mean, I think there's probably a it's
- 7:00Speaker 2: a little bit of animosity between McDermott and the Bills.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I mean, I know he didn't want to.
- 7:04Speaker 7: Leave im, so yeah, I just feel like, I know,
- 7:11Speaker 7: the Broncos had a really good defense this year, and
- 7:14Speaker 7: you know, if they had bonicks, you could.
- 7:16Speaker 5: Argue they would have gone to the super Bowl. But
- 7:19Speaker 5: some of these hires where you go after a guy
- 7:21Speaker 5: who you know, this is their one good year in
- 7:24Speaker 5: the past, like you know, X amount of years. Yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 5: I it kind of makes sense. I get it, but
- 7:30Speaker 5: it's kind of like Halen de Boor, like Washington was
- 7:33Speaker 5: alright for a while, and then he had the one
- 7:36Speaker 5: year runner up with the CFP, and then Alabama's like,
- 7:40Speaker 5: all right, let's go get them, which you know, I
- 7:42Speaker 5: see it, I get it, Like they're good right now.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Take a chance on them, and they might be up
- 7:47Speaker 5: and coming. But you know, if they only have one
- 7:49Speaker 5: good year under their belt, what's making you think all
- 7:52Speaker 5: of a sudden they're gonna build this ten year long franchise.
- 7:55Speaker 2: That's true, I mean, that's usually how it goes, though,
- 7:58Speaker 2: Like almost all all you got the teams that are
- 8:01Speaker 2: desperate for a coach take a gamble like that. Sometimes
- 8:05Speaker 2: it pays off, sometimes it doesn't it there's no there's
- 8:09Speaker 2: no sure thing in sports. They're really just is never
- 8:13Speaker 2: a sure thing. I mean, I know this is going
- 8:16Speaker 2: to be painful for all of us, but Texas and
- 8:18Speaker 2: and baseball was ranked number one in the preseason last
- 8:21Speaker 2: year and didn't make the tournament. So there's no sure
- 8:23Speaker 2: thing in sports. You can't count on anything.
- 8:27Speaker 6: No, definitely not. I mean I've seen some of the
- 8:29Speaker 6: best groups and teams that I mean, even look at
- 8:32Speaker 6: Aggie softball last year too. We were ranked first going
- 8:35Speaker 6: into the whole thing and lost.
- 8:36Speaker 5: In Round one.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it happened to us twice one year. Isn't that crazy? Huh?
- 8:39Speaker 2: So you almost like a cursed or something.
- 8:41Speaker 6: Well what to expect? I mean, also, I was banking
- 8:43Speaker 6: on the Bills to make it all the way to
- 8:45Speaker 6: the end, just because Josh Allen had a clear path
- 8:48Speaker 6: to make it.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no Mahomes you think that, you think you'd
- 8:50Speaker 2: do something.
- 8:51Speaker 6: And it's just I'm just like, man, I really wanted
- 8:53Speaker 6: the Bills to actually get one this year.
- 8:54Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 5: I'm still on the Joe Burrow train. I think if
- 8:58Speaker 5: he's if he's.
- 8:59Speaker 6: Healthy, I think he needs to get out of Cincinnati.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Right, I completely agree. It's I understand why the Bengals
- 9:07Speaker 2: didn't fire Zach Taylor because everybody fired their coach this year. Like,
- 9:12Speaker 2: I think a third of the league almost fired their
- 9:15Speaker 2: coach this year, which is insane. So I get not
- 9:20Speaker 2: wanting to look for somebody in this cycle. I mean,
- 9:23Speaker 2: the same thing happened in college football this year. A
- 9:25Speaker 2: lot of people got fired. I think this might be
- 9:27Speaker 2: the craziest coaching carousel we've had in a football season.
- 9:30Speaker 6: Yeah, me think that LSU's coach got fired, Florida got
- 9:33Speaker 6: fired Arkansas.
- 9:34Speaker 2: James Franklin at the beginning of the year.
- 9:36Speaker 6: Yes.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah, the amount of coaching turnover in the NFL and
- 9:40Speaker 2: college football has been insane. And it's not over. The NFL.
- 9:44Speaker 2: There's still three open spots Browns, Cardinals, and Raiders. One
- 9:49Speaker 2: of the guys that was in contention for the Bills
- 9:51Speaker 2: head coaching spot, a lot of people seemed like he
- 9:54Speaker 2: was one of the favorites, Brian Dayball. He has reportedly
- 10:01Speaker 2: he's going to be the offensive coordinator for the Titans,
- 10:06Speaker 2: contingent upon him not getting the Raiders head coaching job.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Yeah. I saw that, like he'll take the job unless
- 10:12Speaker 5: he gets a job.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Which is always I mean, I know that's kind of
- 10:15Speaker 2: how it goes, but it's always weird to see that happen.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Same thing happened happened with Mike McDaniel. He was hired
- 10:20Speaker 2: as the Chargers offensive court Later, Yeah, that's gonna be
- 10:24Speaker 2: him and Harball together is going to be Yin and Yang,
- 10:27Speaker 2: Like that's going to be interesting. But for a while
- 10:30Speaker 2: there there were reports saying that he could He also
- 10:32Speaker 2: was in the contention for the Oakland or Not the
- 10:35Speaker 2: Oakland job, the Las Vegas job. Nobody plays in Oakland anymore.
- 10:39Speaker 2: It's kind of sad. But yeah, then they actually signed McDaniel,
- 10:43Speaker 2: so he's he's in La. Dave Ball apparently is still
- 10:47Speaker 2: in contention for the Raiders gig. I think he completed
- 10:50Speaker 2: an interview with them yesterday, is what I saw from
- 10:53Speaker 2: schefter or No, that was today, that was this morning.
- 10:56Speaker 2: That was their second interview with him. So day Ball
- 10:59Speaker 2: looking like one of the favorites for the Raiders job.
- 11:02Speaker 2: And then I feel bad for whoever the Browns hire.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Yeah, and I used to like the Browns, but it's
- 11:10Speaker 6: one of their one of those franchises where it's like,
- 11:12Speaker 6: you get there, you've got to be ready to just
- 11:15Speaker 6: start in the trenches.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Well, Stefanski did a really good job until they traded
- 11:19Speaker 2: Baker exactly. I think I think Stefanski on the Falcons,
- 11:22Speaker 2: he might The NFC South is always pretty winnable, so
- 11:26Speaker 2: I think they could compete pretty quickly. I think I
- 11:29Speaker 2: think he's a good year.
- 11:31Speaker 5: That'll be exciting.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that'll be that'll be really interesting for sure.
- 11:34Speaker 6: But I also feel like that you know the Dolphins
- 11:35Speaker 6: new head coach, you should go to the Dolphins. That's
- 11:38Speaker 6: an ugly team you're gonna have to figure out how
- 11:40Speaker 6: to fix.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah, Halfley definitely has his work cut out for him. Yes,
- 11:47Speaker 2: who are even their stars anymore? Because Tyreek Hill is
- 11:49Speaker 2: not the player he used to be.
- 11:50Speaker 5: And like, is Tua gonna start or entire early like
- 11:54Speaker 5: Andrew Luck?
- 11:55Speaker 2: Well, I think they might be looking to take a
- 11:57Speaker 2: quarterback maybe, but who do you even take?
- 12:01Speaker 5: Fernando's going to go to Oakland obviously, so you did
- 12:04Speaker 5: it too, Las Vegas. Wait, I messed that up? Yeah Vegas?
- 12:08Speaker 2: Yeah, well the one to one Vegas is going to
- 12:11Speaker 2: take a quarterback. They don't have a quarterback. They have
- 12:13Speaker 2: Agan O'Connell and you know Smith as the next QB Serson.
- 12:16Speaker 6: I don't think he's going to get picked in the
- 12:18Speaker 6: draft as high as everyone thinks he's going on.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Well, who else? Who's the other quarterback?
- 12:22Speaker 5: You know? Other options? Like is Carson Beck going to
- 12:24Speaker 5: the draft?
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yeah, he's going to the draft. I don't know what
- 12:27Speaker 2: is he getting drafted? So this mic draft database that
- 12:31Speaker 2: I'm looking at here, I think it's Yeah, so it's
- 12:34Speaker 2: a consensus big board, which has data from multiple sources.
- 12:39Speaker 2: It says it uses rankings from eighty seven different boards,
- 12:42Speaker 2: and the top five quarterbacks are Fernanda Mendoza to the
- 12:48Speaker 2: Raiders who have the one one, Ty Simpson, and then
- 12:53Speaker 2: if Trinidad Chambliss doesn't get you another year of eligibility,
- 12:56Speaker 2: then I guess he's going to be in the draft.
- 12:58Speaker 2: He's the third quarterback, and then Garrett Nesmeyer, Carson Beck,
- 13:04Speaker 2: Drew Aller, and then I feel like it's a pretty
- 13:06Speaker 2: big drop from there.
- 13:07Speaker 6: Where's the five to nine?
- 13:09Speaker 5: King?
- 13:10Speaker 2: Uh Pavia is weed down on the list?
- 13:13Speaker 6: I know, I know, I tried to make the joke
- 13:14Speaker 6: because they came out.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Is the tenth quarterback ranked on this system, behind Cole
- 13:20Speaker 2: Peyton from North Dakota State who didn't even play the FBS.
- 13:23Speaker 2: U Sawyer Robertson from Baylor's in there, Taylor Green from Arkansas,
- 13:27Speaker 2: Kate Klubnick from Clemson, and then Haines King eleventh out
- 13:31Speaker 2: of Georgia Tech. So it's definitely it's a pretty weak.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Dante Moore's coming back that was announce a
- 13:37Speaker 2: while back.
- 13:38Speaker 5: I guess he's gone in for the first round pick.
- 13:41Speaker 2: No, yeah, he's gonna I think he's probably gonna be
- 13:43Speaker 2: in contention. For one to one next year.
- 13:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I know it's all timing, like when you're wanting
- 13:49Speaker 5: to go like Cowler, that kind of that kind of
- 13:51Speaker 5: sucks for him.
- 13:51Speaker 2: That Yeah, the injury, he's probably the same thing with
- 13:55Speaker 2: mess Meyer, except ness Meyer just wasn't good. That didn't
- 13:58Speaker 2: really have a whole lot to do with injury.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Like I feel like if you don't know who you're
- 14:01Speaker 5: gonna already hire. I know you have to go based
- 14:03Speaker 5: on like your fans and what they think, but like,
- 14:07Speaker 5: I don't get why you would fire somebody when you
- 14:10Speaker 5: don't already know who you're gonna replace him with. Yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 5: if you're firing Pete Carroll and hiring Brian Davile.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Like okay, well Pete Carroll is not normal that Pete Carroll,
- 14:20Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 14:20Speaker 5: Or like the Falcons, like you fired your coach but
- 14:24Speaker 5: then hired the Browns head coach, Like are you really
- 14:27Speaker 5: think it's gonna get that much better?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Well, Stefanski has been the only guy in a long
- 14:31Speaker 2: time to win anything with the Browns, So I mean,
- 14:35Speaker 2: I think he probably should have left earlier, honestly if
- 14:37Speaker 2: somebody offered him a job, because he's kind of he's
- 14:41Speaker 2: kind of leaving it. You know, his stock is probably
- 14:44Speaker 2: the lowest that it's going to be. But I mean,
- 14:47Speaker 2: I think he's pretty solid coach and maybe you can
- 14:50Speaker 2: attribute a lot of his success to Baker Mayfield, which
- 14:53Speaker 2: is fair. But I think he's going to do well
- 14:57Speaker 2: with the Falcons, mostly because there's not the stiffest competition
- 15:01Speaker 2: in the NFC South, right, the Panthers might be good
- 15:04Speaker 2: next year. The Panthers have been building. I think I
- 15:10Speaker 2: just forgot his name. The head coach over there is
- 15:12Speaker 2: really good, uh, and he's continued to developed Bryce Young,
- 15:18Speaker 2: so they might be forced to be reckoned with I mean,
- 15:20Speaker 2: they almost beat the Rams in the playoffs. Yep, that
- 15:25Speaker 2: was that was a That was a really good game.
- 15:27Speaker 2: And I did not think the Panthers were going to
- 15:28Speaker 2: have a prayer in that one. They've been pretty solid
- 15:33Speaker 2: and I can't remember what their coach's name is, and
- 15:35Speaker 2: that's gonna bother me. But uh, the NFC South is
- 15:39Speaker 2: always pretty mediocre, so Stefanski and the Falcons could compete
- 15:43Speaker 2: in year one. It'll be interesting to see if they
- 15:46Speaker 2: are gonna stick with Michael Poenix Junior for the long
- 15:48Speaker 2: haul or if they're gonna go you know, try to
- 15:51Speaker 2: get Ty Simpson or they still k Cousins. Well, Kirk
- 15:57Speaker 2: Cousins is like thirty six.
- 15:58Speaker 5: They've got to finish his deal.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Thirty eight. I think he's thirty eight. Well, yeah, you
- 16:02Speaker 2: can keep paying a guy. I don't mean you have
- 16:04Speaker 2: to play him. But it's Fernando Mendoza. I mean, that's
- 16:09Speaker 2: what we did with Jimbo.
- 16:12Speaker 5: All right. We do have a text from Matt and CS.
- 16:16Speaker 5: Matt in College Station. Uh, he says, neither the coach
- 16:20Speaker 5: nor the QB are the same as they were in
- 16:22Speaker 5: Green Bay. MacArthur, that's Rogers.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 16:25Speaker 5: That's so bad for Steelers fans, Louis, especially because he
- 16:28Speaker 5: probably admits to being a Steelers fan.
- 16:30Speaker 2: So to cease, yep, cease too.
- 16:32Speaker 5: We've had a lot of Steelers.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's interesting that there's this as much Steelers fandom
- 16:37Speaker 2: in College Station, Texas, which at least ceases from Pennsylvania.
- 16:41Speaker 2: So that makes sense.
- 16:44Speaker 5: Yeah, everybody's talking about they're reunited, like this.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Relationship is back together, but I think it might be
- 16:49Speaker 2: good for a year. That's like, I think they'll.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Lady and Belichick reunited at a new to that'd be
- 16:54Speaker 5: a disaster.
- 16:54Speaker 6: Well, well, you never know.
- 16:56Speaker 2: They sure could maybe long game. The Raiders are hiring
- 17:01Speaker 2: Belichick and Brady's going to be the quarterback. You heard
- 17:03Speaker 2: it here first fall.
- 17:04Speaker 6: I was just saying Brady went back to college football.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Technically right now, he couldn't.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Because I mean, Michigan doesn't have a coach right now.
- 17:11Speaker 6: That's a good point. That's a good point.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't know what the legality of
- 17:15Speaker 2: Brady playing for the Raiders would be though, I mean,
- 17:18Speaker 2: does it matter if the owner is also on the team.
- 17:21Speaker 6: I think there's a whole bunch of rules to say
- 17:23Speaker 6: that he cannot play back in the NFL, but he
- 17:25Speaker 6: could play college football.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Really, yes, a.
- 17:28Speaker 6: Better shot of being able to play again if you
- 17:30Speaker 6: wanted to play in college football, if all of this
- 17:32Speaker 6: were to get waved around and yeah done, than in
- 17:35Speaker 6: the NFL.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Interesting did not know that.
- 17:38Speaker 6: I saw that and thought it was the funniest ARTICL
- 17:39Speaker 6: eight ever read. I go, wow, that really puts things
- 17:41Speaker 6: into perspective.
- 17:42Speaker 2: No, the situation that college football and NFL is in
- 17:46Speaker 2: right now, it's pretty bad. I was looking down a
- 17:50Speaker 2: little farther on this list of quarterbacks in the draft,
- 17:53Speaker 2: Gunner Stockton down for forty eight. I feel like he
- 17:55Speaker 2: should be able to hire. I feel like if Stetsn
- 17:57Speaker 2: Bennett got drafted in the third round or whatever it was,
- 17:59Speaker 2: Gunstock Action should too.
- 18:00Speaker 5: What round is for forty eight, I.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Don't even know if that's in the draft.
- 18:06Speaker 5: That's crazy, Like, yes, he might not have had that
- 18:10Speaker 5: good of stats.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that'd be like fourteenth round and they don't
- 18:13Speaker 2: have that many.
- 18:13Speaker 5: I don't think he was that bad.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Like, I think he's pretty solid the playoffs, well, I
- 18:18Speaker 2: mean he had a really good team, but I feel
- 18:21Speaker 2: like he should be above the quarterback from Iowa.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Yeah, totally.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Which the quarterback from Iowa, Mark Gronowski is right below
- 18:28Speaker 2: Haines King. That doesn't really make a whole lot of
- 18:30Speaker 2: sense to me. Joey Aguilar is below the quarterback from Iowa,
- 18:34Speaker 2: Joey Aguilar. I feel like it was pretty solid.
- 18:36Speaker 6: It actually does shock me.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Luke Altmeyer also below the guy from Illinois, Baron Morton
- 18:42Speaker 2: from Tech. I mean, they all these guys were pretty good.
- 18:46Speaker 2: But I guess being pretty good at Texas Tech on
- 18:51Speaker 2: a team that was way better than everybody else they
- 18:53Speaker 2: played most of that year, I guess that doesn't necessarily
- 18:56Speaker 2: mean that much. Connor Wigman down at four to fifty nine.
- 18:58Speaker 2: In case anybody was wondering.
- 19:00Speaker 6: Wait, he's going into the draft.
- 19:02Speaker 2: No, well, he's out of eligibility.
- 19:03Speaker 6: I think I thought he had one word.
- 19:05Speaker 5: He intends to return to the twenty twenty six college
- 19:08Speaker 5: football season.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so this board is wrong. Then Zach Calzada
- 19:14Speaker 2: is the second to last quarterback listed on this board.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I guess anybody was wondering he is out of eligibility.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure who Calzada not? You don't remember.
- 19:26Speaker 6: No, I can't remember if he is or not sitting
- 19:29Speaker 6: or thinking.
- 19:29Speaker 2: I'm like, I think he's probably out because he played
- 19:32Speaker 2: two years here and then Incarnate Word Kentucky. Did he
- 19:38Speaker 2: go straight to Kentucky from Incarnate Word? That's kind of
- 19:40Speaker 2: an interesting jump.
- 19:42Speaker 6: I'm trying to think of the one former Aggie quarterback
- 19:45Speaker 6: that is fixing going to his seventh year that topped
- 19:48Speaker 6: around quite literally everywhere.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Jacob No, no Zeno.
- 19:52Speaker 6: Does he know as a Baylor before he came here?
- 19:54Speaker 2: And then u AB you're talking about t Finley? Nope,
- 20:00Speaker 2: because he is like in his ninth year or something
- 20:02Speaker 2: in his Night's team. Maybe not exactly that, but a
- 20:05Speaker 2: lot an Aggie quarterback he was.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I don't think he started, but I think that it's.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Not a.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Eli Stours.
- 20:16Speaker 6: Hold on, give me a second, I'm looking him up.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Okay, good luck with that. Looking at the rest of
- 20:22Speaker 2: this mock draft, we mentioned Mendoza at number one. That's
- 20:25Speaker 2: pretty obvious. Oh Max Johnson, Yeah, I forgot about him.
- 20:30Speaker 2: He did start for like five games for Brooke's thumb.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Remember the first game at North Carolina against Minnesota.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he broke his leg or something pretty bad. Yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 2: he was out. I think he was out for most
- 20:41Speaker 2: of the year that He's had pretty bad injury luck.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I always thought he was decent. He just never he
- 20:47Speaker 2: had that one year at LSU where he was fully
- 20:49Speaker 2: healthy that he played really well and beat us. But
- 20:53Speaker 2: other than that, he hasn't. I don't think he's had
- 20:55Speaker 2: a year where he's been one hundred and able to
- 21:00Speaker 2: show what he can do. And I think without all
- 21:02Speaker 2: those injuries, he would probably be a pretty interesting prospect.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Does anybody remember Jalen Henderson.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I loves Virginia. Now, is he gonna play this
- 21:09Speaker 2: year Virginia? Because I know this year he was on
- 21:14Speaker 2: the team, But I think he was hurt for most
- 21:17Speaker 2: of it. He's another guy that has had pretty bad
- 21:21Speaker 2: injury luck, but that's just how it goes active. So
- 21:26Speaker 2: he is going to play again this year.
- 21:28Speaker 5: I don't know if he's a starter.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Well, I know he didn't start. But anyway, I think
- 21:34Speaker 2: we're going to take another quick break five twenty one.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Here on a Tuesday afternoon, you're hanging out with Caleb,

- 24:28Speaker 2: here that is a big MLB guy, but it's okay.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Today I'm the host and I get to decide what
- 24:34Speaker 2: we talk about.
- 24:34Speaker 5: I don't really watch the regular season, like there's so
- 24:37Speaker 5: many games.
- 24:38Speaker 2: That's fair, you know. You know, I know those.
- 24:39Speaker 5: Guys who are very die hard for their team and
- 24:42Speaker 5: they watch every single game. Yeah, I just feel like
- 24:45Speaker 5: every single game doesn't really matter that much in the
- 24:47Speaker 5: grand scheme of things, So why am I going to
- 24:49Speaker 5: watch every single pitch all year?
- 24:52Speaker 2: Gen Z?
- 24:54Speaker 5: Gen Z same with the NBA.
- 24:56Speaker 6: So for me, watching Texas Rangers lose and just not
- 24:59Speaker 6: have a.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Good season, well, that's because your team's bad. Like that's
- 25:02Speaker 2: that's not my fault. Who are you a fan of Astros?
- 25:05Speaker 6: Oh gosh, obviously.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yeah, come on, I will. I'll have you know. I'm
- 25:11Speaker 2: in the majority on this one. Because Louis is also
- 25:14Speaker 2: an Astros fan.
- 25:15Speaker 6: I know I don't have much chips and this is
- 25:18Speaker 6: Chips show.
- 25:19Speaker 2: That's a good point. Yeah, I guess I am.
- 25:21Speaker 6: They're cheating, can we not?
- 25:24Speaker 2: You don't want to? I mean we can. I can
- 25:26Speaker 2: ran about that for the rest of the show if
- 25:27Speaker 2: you want me to, Like, I could fill the final
- 25:31Speaker 2: thirty five minutes about about that, but I'm not going
- 25:34Speaker 2: to do that today because I want to. I want
- 25:36Speaker 2: to have a good time on the show. You don't
- 25:38Speaker 2: want to hear me? And Caleb So came out recently
- 25:42Speaker 2: that a couple speaking to the Astros, Jose Altuve and
- 25:44Speaker 2: Carlos Korea, will both not be participating in the World
- 25:48Speaker 2: Baseball Classic. I saw that, which I'm happy about. Al
- 25:54Speaker 2: had an injury in twenty twenty three in the WBC.
- 25:57Speaker 2: He missed about eight weeks of the season. He got
- 26:00Speaker 2: a fractured thumb.
- 26:01Speaker 5: Ok.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm especially with these two players that you know,
- 26:06Speaker 2: have are a little farther along in their career. I'm
- 26:11Speaker 2: happy about them sitting out.
- 26:15Speaker 6: Not risking those by the injury.
- 26:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Yeah, especially with the Astros having so many injuries in
- 26:20Speaker 2: twenty twenty five, we can't afford to have anybody else
- 26:23Speaker 2: go down. So it is sad that we won't get
- 26:28Speaker 2: to see al Twov play for his country because that's
- 26:29Speaker 2: always a lot of fun. But I am glad that
- 26:32Speaker 2: he's not going to be taking the risk of getting hurt.
- 26:35Speaker 11: Uh.
- 26:35Speaker 2: And he had a procedure actually over the offseason on
- 26:38Speaker 2: his right foot, so he's already not one hundred percent
- 26:42Speaker 2: And so they did And also they didn't get insurance
- 26:45Speaker 2: on their contracts for the event, so his their salaries
- 26:48Speaker 2: would be at risk if they got hurt, so definitely
- 26:51Speaker 2: makes sense to not not take that chance. We got
- 26:57Speaker 2: some free agent signings that have been going down recently.
- 27:00Speaker 2: The Giants went and got Harrison Bader on a two
- 27:04Speaker 2: year deal for twenty point five million dollars. He's one
- 27:09Speaker 2: of the best defensive outfielders in the league, I would say,
- 27:15Speaker 2: and the Giants. The Giants off outfield defense, I mean,
- 27:19Speaker 2: I can't talk, has been pretty rough over the last
- 27:22Speaker 2: few years. They were tied for the worst outs above
- 27:27Speaker 2: average in twenty twenty five, tied with Baltimore. So it
- 27:31Speaker 2: was a priority for them to improve that, and Bater
- 27:34Speaker 2: definitely does that. He is a Gold Glove winner back
- 27:36Speaker 2: in twenty twenty one and he will probably be there everyday.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Center Fielder Jung Hu Lee, who was their center fielder
- 27:44Speaker 2: last year, probably going to move over to Wright has
- 27:47Speaker 2: a pretty good arm, but not great range, so that's
- 27:49Speaker 2: a better fit for him. Anyway. Bad was on the
- 27:53Speaker 2: Twins and Phillies last year, hit two seventy seven with
- 27:56Speaker 2: seventeen homers fifty four RBIs, which is pretty solid for
- 27:59Speaker 2: a guy that it's a defensive first type of player.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Uh spent most of his career before that with the Cardinals.
- 28:06Speaker 2: That's how I remember him. That's I always think of
- 28:08Speaker 2: him as a Cardinal, but he's played for six different
- 28:11Speaker 2: teams since twenty seventeen. He's kind of been one of
- 28:12Speaker 2: those guys that bounced around. But pretty good signing for them.
- 28:17Speaker 6: And then I have one question though for you with Astros,
- 28:20Speaker 6: do you think in this offseason so far they're going
- 28:23Speaker 6: to fix their bullpen issue that they have had?
- 28:26Speaker 2: Well, the issue is the bullpen was not the problem.
- 28:31Speaker 2: The bullpen was the only was a little bit Well,
- 28:34Speaker 2: I mean it can't not everything can't be great for
- 28:36Speaker 2: the whole season. The bullpen is kind of the least
- 28:39Speaker 2: of my worries right now. My main concern is starting
- 28:42Speaker 2: pitchers because we had probably twelve different guys start games
- 28:48Speaker 2: last year something crazy. The only like the top two
- 28:52Speaker 2: I feel really good about Hunter Brown, Christian Xavier great
- 28:56Speaker 2: like fully fully confident in them. And then and then
- 29:01Speaker 2: we got the guy from Japan, Tatsuya i Ma, who
- 29:05Speaker 2: was really good with in uh the NPB overseas. We'll look,
- 29:13Speaker 2: it'll be interesting to see how he does in the MLB.
- 29:15Speaker 2: But there's been a lot of Japanese pitchers come over
- 29:18Speaker 2: and have great success, like sho Hey and Yamamoto. Uh
- 29:23Speaker 2: Sasaki hasn't. I mean, he's been fine. I don't know
- 29:26Speaker 2: if i'd say he's a great success, but he's been fine.
- 29:29Speaker 2: And one thing I love about Eme, the guy the
- 29:32Speaker 2: Astros got, is when they were he was being asked,
- 29:36Speaker 2: you know, before he had signed if he would be
- 29:39Speaker 2: interested in going to the Dodgers, and he said that
- 29:41Speaker 2: it would be fun to uh, you know, play with
- 29:45Speaker 2: some players from his home country, but he would rather
- 29:49Speaker 2: beat them.
- 29:49Speaker 5: He could probably you know, ban some games and win
- 29:52Speaker 5: over there too.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Okay, all right, chill up. We don't need to get
- 29:55Speaker 2: into the whole show a gambling thing that that's that's
- 29:58Speaker 2: your old news. That kind of controversial. But I like
- 30:03Speaker 2: that attitude from e May. You know, he wants to
- 30:05Speaker 2: win and having a big bad like the Dodgers that
- 30:09Speaker 2: go spend all the money, sign all the players and
- 30:12Speaker 2: are the clear favorite. It's always fun when there's a
- 30:15Speaker 2: player that wants to embrace that underdog role. So I'm
- 30:18Speaker 2: pretty excited to see that, see what he can do.
- 30:21Speaker 2: He's twenty seven years old, a lot of career in
- 30:24Speaker 2: front of him if he adjusts quickly. And then right now,
- 30:27Speaker 2: our starting pitcher number four projected as Lance mccollor's, which
- 30:32Speaker 2: is scary because he hasn't had a fully healthy season
- 30:34Speaker 2: in like eight years, and he's he was great when
- 30:39Speaker 2: he was healthy back in the good playoff runs of seventeen,
- 30:42Speaker 2: eighteen and nineteen, but he just hasn't been able to
- 30:45Speaker 2: put a season together since then, and I don't really
- 30:48Speaker 2: trust him anymore, unfortunately. And then after that, it's two
- 30:52Speaker 2: minor league guys, Mike Burrows and Ryan Weiss. Mike Burrows
- 30:56Speaker 2: came over in the trade with Pittsburgh earlier this offseason.
- 31:00Speaker 2: And you know, last time the Astros traded for a
- 31:02Speaker 2: right handed starting pitcher from Pittsburgh, it was Garrett Cole,
- 31:06Speaker 2: So maybe that'll happen again. That'd be pretty cool, But
- 31:08Speaker 2: I'm not really sure what to expect from him. He's
- 31:11Speaker 2: hasn't had a whole lot of MLB playing time. I mean,
- 31:15Speaker 2: ninety six innings last year and three ninety four e
- 31:18Speaker 2: ra is pretty solid, But we'll see how he adjusts
- 31:21Speaker 2: to being the American League. You know, the lineups and
- 31:25Speaker 2: Nail West are all pretty solid, so it should be
- 31:27Speaker 2: some interesting competition. But again with your question about the bullpen,
- 31:32Speaker 2: I'm not really too worried about the bullpen.
- 31:34Speaker 6: Like you know, we had, y'all have not we y'all
- 31:37Speaker 6: had a bunch of injury that.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Kind of called he had a lot of injuries. Yeah, no, yeah, injuries,
- 31:43Speaker 2: injuries called Bok injuries caused a lot of issues. And
- 31:47Speaker 2: I think you know, priord of what you were talking
- 31:48Speaker 2: about with the bullpen was when the starters were all
- 31:52Speaker 2: hurt and the ones that were healthy only went five innings,
- 31:55Speaker 2: the bullpen got tired. Like, there's not really a whole
- 31:57Speaker 2: lot we could do about that. But Hater was really
- 32:00Speaker 2: good closing games for us last year when you know,
- 32:03Speaker 2: until he went out for the season, which was when
- 32:07Speaker 2: I knew we weren't going to make the playoffs or
- 32:08Speaker 2: do anything. Was when Peter got hurt. Because he was
- 32:10Speaker 2: the only thing holding this together. He was great and
- 32:16Speaker 2: by Ryan and Bray was also great to to a
- 32:18Speaker 2: er a for him. So I think the bullpen will
- 32:21Speaker 2: be fine. Got some new additions, Nate Pearson coming over,
- 32:25Speaker 2: who has been one of those guys kind of like
- 32:27Speaker 2: Forced Whitley with the Astros, one of those guys that
- 32:32Speaker 2: big prospect never fully put it together. I mean he
- 32:34Speaker 2: was with the coming up with the Blue Jays, Pearson
- 32:37Speaker 2: was a really big deal, never really got it going completely,
- 32:42Speaker 2: but he's had four years in MLB now a little
- 32:44Speaker 2: more experienced. And the Astros have been pretty good at
- 32:47Speaker 2: taking some pitchers that, you know, maybe not living up
- 32:50Speaker 2: to their full potential and kind of starting to realize
- 32:52Speaker 2: more of that once they get over here. My main
- 32:55Speaker 2: concern with the pitching staff, other than those things already said,
- 32:58Speaker 2: was that we don't have any lefty starters, which isn't
- 33:01Speaker 2: you know, great for throwing off the other team's lineup.
- 33:04Speaker 2: All six the top six of our starters are all
- 33:07Speaker 2: right handed, and I don't I don't think we would
- 33:10Speaker 2: have any lefties coming up in the minor leagues. Brandon
- 33:13Speaker 2: Walter is a left handed pitcher who's out with Tommy
- 33:15Speaker 2: John and I think he's gonna miss the entire season.
- 33:19Speaker 2: We might get Ronel Blanco and Hayden west Nesky back
- 33:23Speaker 2: during the season. They both got Tommy John last summer,
- 33:27Speaker 2: so maybe maybe if we make it the postseason, we
- 33:29Speaker 2: could have them. And west Nesky was one of those
- 33:31Speaker 2: guys that I was pretty excited about when we traded
- 33:33Speaker 2: for him. He came over in the Tucker trade, but
- 33:38Speaker 2: not didn't get much time to show what he can do.
- 33:43Speaker 2: And I guess this is just me looking at the
- 33:45Speaker 2: Astros roster and telling you how it feel about it,
- 33:47Speaker 2: because that's what's this, what the segment has turned into.
- 33:49Speaker 2: So while I'm at it, I guess I'll talk about
- 33:51Speaker 2: the hitters. Panya at shortstop is locked down, same with
- 33:55Speaker 2: Korea at third That's probably the best left side of
- 33:59Speaker 2: the endfield in the league defensively, and having Korea play
- 34:05Speaker 2: third base is kind of unfair, honestly, because he's such
- 34:08Speaker 2: a good shortstop. Playing third is really easy for him,
- 34:10Speaker 2: not having to cover as much ground, so defensively, I
- 34:13Speaker 2: think it's going to be great with Korea at third,
- 34:17Speaker 2: Panette short Christian Walker at first, Diaz has been solid
- 34:21Speaker 2: behind the plate, and then Jake Myers in center field.
- 34:23Speaker 2: If he's the everyday guy he's he's going to be great.
- 34:27Speaker 2: I'm interested to see what's gonna happen with Esstock Perettis
- 34:31Speaker 2: with Korea and Walker taking up the corner endfield and
- 34:34Speaker 2: Altwove is probably gonna be playing second most of the time.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Not a whole lot of at bats for Peretis right now,
- 34:41Speaker 2: looks like so they are looking at trading him for
- 34:43Speaker 2: maybe a pitcher or an outfielder, which I would be
- 34:45Speaker 2: fine with either of those, but I mean, he's a
- 34:48Speaker 2: great player, was one of our best hitters, most consistent
- 34:52Speaker 2: hitters last year, So definitely definitely an interesting season coming up.
- 34:58Speaker 2: The outfield is going to be pretty big question mark.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Jesus Sanchez and Zach Cole are the other two starting
- 35:06Speaker 2: outfielders as of now according to Fangrafts, and then Cam
- 35:11Speaker 2: Smith coming off the bench, probably maybe a platoon roles.
- 35:15Speaker 2: He's you know, right handed hitter, he might only face lefties.
- 35:18Speaker 2: And he's still really young. I mean he's gonna be
- 35:21Speaker 2: twenty three this year. Came up from like I think,
- 35:26Speaker 2: twenty games in the miners, getting drafted from Florida State
- 35:29Speaker 2: and then me almost immediately called up to the big leagues.
- 35:32Speaker 2: So we'll see what he can do. But uh, yeah,
- 35:35Speaker 2: I'm excited. So thanks for letting me talk about the
- 35:37Speaker 2: Astros fifteen minutes.
- 35:38Speaker 5: Here's my question to you. You know, all these stats, analytics,
- 35:42Speaker 5: discussions about the MLB, But is all of this just
- 35:47Speaker 5: for the Dodgers to win at the end? You know?
- 35:50Speaker 5: Is that and we'll see, Like I don't, okay, like
- 35:52Speaker 5: what a billion dollars.
- 35:54Speaker 2: It's I think more than that, honestly.
- 35:56Speaker 5: Like they've won last year.
- 35:59Speaker 2: They've won back to by So like the thing about.
- 36:02Speaker 5: The Dodgers right now, and it doesn't really matter.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they keep they have been collecting Infinity stones for sure.
- 36:09Speaker 2: I mean they just added Kyle Tucker. Like, you know,
- 36:11Speaker 2: they're the Patriots, They're who the chiefs not really see
- 36:15Speaker 2: the Patriots. When the Patriots were good, it wasn't because
- 36:18Speaker 2: they were signing the biggest free agents every year it
- 36:20Speaker 2: was because Bill Belichick knew what he wanted to do
- 36:23Speaker 2: and he had Tom Brady.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Right, So this is like the old school Warriors or
- 36:28Speaker 5: like the God yeah, the Warriors.
- 36:30Speaker 2: That's that's a good analogy for when they had Katie the.
- 36:32Speaker 5: Year we knew it was going to be Golden State
- 36:35Speaker 5: versus Cleveland. Yeah, back in the twenty tens.
- 36:39Speaker 2: That was so long ago.
- 36:41Speaker 5: Like now, there's gonna be the Dodgers every year, and
- 36:44Speaker 5: it's okay, who in the AL is going to lose
- 36:46Speaker 5: the Dodgers this year?
- 36:47Speaker 2: I mean everybody probably. I don't. The Dodgers are gonna
- 36:52Speaker 2: be good obviously, But the thing about baseball is that
- 36:55Speaker 2: even if you're the better team by a lot, there's
- 36:57Speaker 2: still a chance that you could lose. Like the Yankees
- 37:00Speaker 2: didn't win every World Series when they were the team
- 37:03Speaker 2: to beat. Baseball is a crazy sport. You can't guarantee.
- 37:08Speaker 2: You can't guarantee you win. You can I would say
- 37:11Speaker 2: that you can guarantee a win in football more than
- 37:15Speaker 2: you can in baseball, just because there's so many variables
- 37:19Speaker 2: with baseball, with there being you know, so many more games.
- 37:23Speaker 2: It's it's just you never can't tell. But the Dodgers
- 37:25Speaker 2: are definitely in the best position by far of any
- 37:28Speaker 2: team out there. I mean, they replaced Michael Conforida with
- 37:31Speaker 2: Kyle Tucker. That's it. It's not fair. It's not fair. Honestly,
- 37:37Speaker 2: I think all you, all the other owners gotta Lee
- 37:41Speaker 2: need to just you know, man up and start spending
- 37:44Speaker 2: some money. But they don't want to. They want the
- 37:47Speaker 2: They want the rules to bail them out and have
- 37:50Speaker 2: to put a salary cap on it, which is going
- 37:52Speaker 2: to basically pretty much force a lockout at the beginning
- 37:55Speaker 2: of next year when the CBA expires, and all the
- 37:57Speaker 2: players are going to say, no, we don't want a
- 37:59Speaker 2: salary cap up, but all the owners are going to
- 38:01Speaker 2: be fighting for that. So we might not have baseball
- 38:03Speaker 2: all next year, which is gonna suck, but you know,
- 38:06Speaker 2: that's professional sports. On a little bit of a lighter note,
- 38:11Speaker 2: one other baseball thing I want to talk about real quick.
- 38:15Speaker 2: George Soriano and Jose Suarez, a pair of release pitchers
- 38:20Speaker 2: that are both kind of fringe MLB guys. They've had
- 38:23Speaker 2: some pretty interesting exchanges this year. So in November, Baltimore
- 38:29Speaker 2: claimed Soriano off the waivers from Miami. Very beginning of January.
- 38:35Speaker 2: They cut him, and then they claimed they cut him.
- 38:40Speaker 2: The Braves claimed him. The Orioles claimed Suarez, who the
- 38:45Speaker 2: Braves had just cut a week later, which was the
- 38:50Speaker 2: twenty second, five days ago. The Orioles cut Suarez and
- 38:54Speaker 2: the Braves picked him back up and then cut Soriano.
- 38:58Speaker 2: What It's always really funny to watch what happens in
- 39:03Speaker 2: MLB off season with random relief pictures, because it's almost
- 39:06Speaker 2: always the random relief pictures that get cut and dropped
- 39:09Speaker 2: and traded and picked up off waivers and designated for assignment,
- 39:13Speaker 2: and it's just back and forth and back and forth,
- 39:14Speaker 2: and you never really know where they're going to end up.
- 39:17Speaker 2: And it's just one of my favorite things about baseball
- 39:19Speaker 2: is the stupid, the stupid transactions that happen in the
- 39:23Speaker 2: boring hot stove time from November to January. That's going
- 39:27Speaker 2: to take us into our next break. I know everybody
- 39:29Speaker 2: has really been enjoying listening to me yap about the
- 39:32Speaker 2: Astros and MLB and apparently nobody cares, but whatever, today's
- 39:35Speaker 2: my show, so I can talk about it if I
- 39:37Speaker 2: want to. If you have some other opinions that you
- 39:39Speaker 2: want to talk about, be sure to text us or

- 40:52Speaker 9: The Zoon eleven fifty AM and ninety three point seven FM.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Welcome back into sports talk here on the Zone eleven
- 41:14Speaker 2: fifty AM ninety three point seven FM. Caleb here along
- 41:18Speaker 2: with Riley and Trey. The gen Z Roundtable is what
- 41:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna start calling us here this afternoon. We're gonna
- 41:26Speaker 2: finish out the show talking a little college football, everybody's favorite.
- 41:30Speaker 2: We have to we have, we have Riley, you said
- 41:32Speaker 2: you had some topics you wanted to get go in here.
- 41:35Speaker 6: So Kurt Sinnetti's game worn headset for twenty twenty five
- 41:39Speaker 6: national Championships where obviously Indiana one, is now up for auction.
- 41:44Speaker 2: See this is the kind of thing that only happens
- 41:47Speaker 2: in college football. This is why it's the best sport
- 41:49Speaker 2: in the world.
- 41:49Speaker 6: It's for nil purposes, is what it says.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, you know how much money they're gonna make
- 41:54Speaker 2: off that me? Neither a lot?
- 41:56Speaker 5: Though. Does it tell you where it's up for auction?
- 41:57Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a website.
- 41:58Speaker 5: This seems like the kind of thing where like it's
- 42:01Speaker 5: up for auction, like at a local church festival like
- 42:04Speaker 5: in Bloomington.
- 42:05Speaker 2: You would think that, but it's college football. This is
- 42:08Speaker 2: probably gonna sell a million.
- 42:09Speaker 5: Growing up, like Alex Caruso's shoes when he was like
- 42:12Speaker 5: still in the g reallygue would be signed and up
- 42:14Speaker 5: for auction, where you know, like Alex Russo wasn't a
- 42:18Speaker 5: big deal in the NBA yet, Like this seems like
- 42:20Speaker 5: that kind of thing, Like we'd have Kevin someone signed headsets.
- 42:23Speaker 5: But he won a championship.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Though, so no, he definitely did not want to different.
- 42:28Speaker 2: I'm trying to find the website because I saw it earlier.
- 42:31Speaker 6: The current bid as of Tuesday today at twelve thirty
- 42:36Speaker 6: pm was eleven ten dollars. Wow, I thought it'd be
- 42:42Speaker 6: worth way more than that.
- 42:44Speaker 2: So it's on what's the website? I saw the website earlier.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Now I can't find it. There's thirteen days left in
- 42:50Speaker 2: the auction, is what I'm seeing here. So you know what,
- 42:55Speaker 2: let's setting over under. I'm gonna I'm gonna set the
- 42:57Speaker 2: over under at m M. Let's go fifty thousand.
- 43:03Speaker 5: Already know it? Right?
- 43:05Speaker 2: No, Like what it's gonna end up being in thirteen days.
- 43:07Speaker 2: There's thirteen days left. Do you think it's gonna be
- 43:09Speaker 2: over fifty right now? It's at like eleven right now
- 43:12Speaker 2: it's said it's at.
- 43:13Speaker 6: Eleven and ten dollars.
- 43:16Speaker 5: I don't. I think under fifty really?
- 43:18Speaker 6: Well, it just the auction just opened up within the
- 43:21Speaker 6: last day or so, and I think that the headlines
- 43:23Speaker 6: for it have not really taken off yet. And I
- 43:25Speaker 6: think today is where it started to kind of just okay, break,
- 43:28Speaker 6: I think.
- 43:28Speaker 5: A ball would be higher. So like his headset.
- 43:31Speaker 2: How about Mark Cuban buys it for a quarter million dollars.
- 43:35Speaker 2: I did see it. I could see it too.
- 43:37Speaker 5: Indiana fans are loyal.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Well, they got some big donors, yep. Or I think
- 43:43Speaker 2: now that they're good again, I think, you know, the
- 43:45Speaker 2: donors that are there are going to start donating a
- 43:48Speaker 2: lot of money because they have Mark Cuman, Mark Cubans
- 43:50Speaker 2: and alumni. He has a lot of money. He's probably
- 43:52Speaker 2: gonna end up buying this. That's my that's my official prediction.
- 43:55Speaker 6: He was so excited on the sideline when he got
- 43:57Speaker 6: to stand out there with them in the National Championship.
- 44:00Speaker 6: I'm like, bro.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Well, he wanted to do with the MAVs, but that
- 44:03Speaker 2: didn't work out.
- 44:05Speaker 6: That's what happens when you get rid of Luca.
- 44:09Speaker 2: That was That was a whole other thing that we're
- 44:12Speaker 2: not going to talk about today because I've been told
- 44:15Speaker 2: we don't talk about NBA on this show.
- 44:16Speaker 5: We haba on this show.
- 44:18Speaker 2: That's that's what it sounds like. Other college football stuff.
- 44:23Speaker 2: On three release, they're way too early All American list
- 44:27Speaker 2: some interesting names here. We've got Trinidad Chambliss first team
- 44:30Speaker 2: quarterback if he even plays, so that's already a big
- 44:35Speaker 2: question mark. Uh, there's a few guys from Texas on here.
- 44:40Speaker 2: No Aggie's on the first team, which I think is
- 44:44Speaker 2: a pretty big miss. There are a couple Aggies on
- 44:47Speaker 2: the second team, or it's just one Aggie on the
- 44:49Speaker 2: second team for defense safety Marcus Ratliff, and I feel
- 44:55Speaker 2: like you're missing some big names here. Mario Krager's right there.
- 44:57Speaker 6: I was like, I thought Mario Craber was on there,
- 44:59Speaker 6: but maybe not.
- 45:00Speaker 2: No, not on three might have been a different website
- 45:02Speaker 2: I'm looking at. Just on three's way too early All Americans.
- 45:05Speaker 2: They're different. Their second team quarterback Julian Sayin from Ohio
- 45:10Speaker 2: State who might end up being one of those guys
- 45:13Speaker 2: that is going to be a first round quarterback next year.
- 45:17Speaker 2: I thought he did really good at Ohio State, especially
- 45:20Speaker 2: since it was his first year as a starter. I
- 45:22Speaker 2: think he's got a lot of potential. He was one
- 45:24Speaker 2: of the most accurate quarterbacks in the nation and it
- 45:26Speaker 2: was his first year, so it'll be interesting to see
- 45:30Speaker 2: how he continues to develop. Texas had two guys on defense,
- 45:35Speaker 2: Colin Simmons and Rashiem Biles. Biles is a transfer from
- 45:40Speaker 2: pitt He's a two time All acc player, led the
- 45:44Speaker 2: league this season with seventeen tackles for loss, so Texas
- 45:48Speaker 2: with a big ad there in the linebacker room. And
- 45:52Speaker 2: then Colin Simmons, you know, has been one of the
- 45:54Speaker 2: best pass rushers in the country for the last couple
- 45:56Speaker 2: of years, probably would be, you know, the first round
- 46:00Speaker 2: pick if he was draft eligible, but one more year
- 46:03Speaker 2: for him. And then offensive tackle Trevor Gooseby was the
- 46:07Speaker 2: other Longhorn. So those are the guys that we got
- 46:10Speaker 2: to go up against this year, and I think a
- 46:13Speaker 2: lot of a lot of eggies got snubbed here, Mario
- 46:15Speaker 2: Craver being the main one I think he should be
- 46:17Speaker 2: in here for sure, But I mean, I guess ruemyn
- 46:23Speaker 2: Owens isn't all American, probably, But I just feel like
- 46:28Speaker 2: there's there's a lot of a lot of aggies that
- 46:29Speaker 2: could have been on here. Cam Coleman also made the
- 46:32Speaker 2: list second team offense. Hey, he was an aggie at
- 46:34Speaker 2: one point, he was a hypothetical aggie. Yeah, but it'll
- 46:40Speaker 2: be an interesting year, that's for sure.
- 46:43Speaker 6: I'm definitely excited to see one how our team looks.
- 46:47Speaker 6: But also I love watching all of these fan bases
- 46:51Speaker 6: go wild over Oh we've got these people, Oh we
- 46:54Speaker 6: got this person. And I'm not pointing fingers, but Texas
- 46:58Speaker 6: is doing it again.
- 46:59Speaker 2: It's we do it all the time.
- 47:01Speaker 5: Though.
- 47:01Speaker 6: Yes, but I am interested to see how Texas plays
- 47:06Speaker 6: this year simply because they did pick up quite a
- 47:09Speaker 6: few good players in the portal and I know Arch
- 47:12Speaker 6: is going into his second year. But the way that
- 47:15Speaker 6: they're saying they're going to be winning the National championship
- 47:18Speaker 6: next year kind of blows my mind a teeny bit.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Every team that's in contention for the National Championship is
- 47:24Speaker 2: going to say that they're gonna win it. That's just
- 47:26Speaker 2: how that goes. Texas is especially notorious for that. They
- 47:30Speaker 2: always have been, they always will be. Not really something
- 47:34Speaker 2: that I get concerned about, to be honest.
- 47:36Speaker 5: Right, I'm obviously in Aggie my whole life. But you know,
- 47:41Speaker 5: the big talk of last year was Arch Manning was
- 47:43Speaker 5: the Heisman favorite, and then he you know, fell off, underperformed,
- 47:47Speaker 5: wasn't very good, and then he kind of got hot
- 47:50Speaker 5: at the end of the season.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Oh yeah, where now it's like.
- 47:54Speaker 5: Heisman's second life, like like he like re.
- 47:58Speaker 2: I think he is the Heisman favorite again this year,
- 48:00Speaker 2: which is really funny, more valid this year than it
- 48:02Speaker 2: was last. Absolutely, I definitely agree with you there, but
- 48:06Speaker 2: like especially Fine Boum came out like the day after
- 48:09Speaker 2: the National Championship and said Arch is gonna win the Heisman,
- 48:11Speaker 2: and I'm like, man, did you not learn anything from
- 48:13Speaker 2: last year?
- 48:14Speaker 6: I will say this though about Arch Fanning. He did
- 48:16Speaker 6: have a little bit of a rough start to the
- 48:18Speaker 6: season and the media just grilled him because of his
- 48:21Speaker 6: last name. Yeah, so yeah, I am an A and
- 48:23Speaker 6: M fan obviously, but I do hope he has a
- 48:26Speaker 6: decent year so everyone will just hop off him because
- 48:31Speaker 6: I feel like the heat he's taking is just as
- 48:33Speaker 6: an ever athlete perspective, it's.
- 48:35Speaker 5: Just a little Yeah, it's either way overhyped or like
- 48:40Speaker 5: way like dogging on him saying he's terrible.
- 48:43Speaker 2: I think he's a good we're extremely cold. Yeah, I
- 48:45Speaker 2: think he's a good quarterback. I just think that in
- 48:48Speaker 2: the position that he's in, like you said, with the
- 48:50Speaker 2: last name that he has, if he's not an elite quarterback,
- 48:52Speaker 2: he's gonna catch heat. That's just how that's going to go.
- 48:56Speaker 6: But I also feel like that with you know, Reid
- 48:59Speaker 6: had an excellent year and he had a couple of
- 49:00Speaker 6: rough games toward the end, and I hate how people
- 49:03Speaker 6: hop off and on that train too with him because
- 49:05Speaker 6: he has a good quarterback. He just has those moments
- 49:08Speaker 6: where it's like that was on a great decision. And
- 49:11Speaker 6: he also I feel like Reid is one of those
- 49:13Speaker 6: players that he wants to test the limits and he's
- 49:16Speaker 6: wanting to try and make a play, you know, to
- 49:18Speaker 6: just I don't know, see if he can have a
- 49:20Speaker 6: scoring opportunity, and sometimes obviously doesn't work out in his favor.
- 49:23Speaker 6: But that's one thing about I guess being in the
- 49:26Speaker 6: perspective of being a quarterback. I guess just in that category.
- 49:30Speaker 6: You're supposed to be the leader team, carry the team,
- 49:32Speaker 6: but everything falls on you when you win and when.
- 49:34Speaker 2: You lose, right, I mean, that's yeah, that's just kind
- 49:38Speaker 2: of how football is as far as the quarterback goes.
- 49:40Speaker 2: It's not right, but that is that is how it
- 49:43Speaker 2: usually plays out. One thing I wanted to talk about
- 49:46Speaker 2: before we get out of here. Got about ten minutes
- 49:49Speaker 2: left in the show. Today, college football Playoff. The new
- 49:53Speaker 2: format it you know, continues to change. It's still only
- 49:56Speaker 2: twelve teams, but POWERF conferences all four of them will
- 50:01Speaker 2: be guaranteed a spot for their conference champion, which has
- 50:04Speaker 2: been established. But one thing that I think people didn't
- 50:08Speaker 2: really notice until today and people started to point out,
- 50:12Speaker 2: was there's one spot reserved for the group of six,
- 50:15Speaker 2: which was clear, right, that's what That's what I was
- 50:19Speaker 2: getting at was apparently it doesn't have to be a
- 50:23Speaker 2: conference champion. It's just whichever group of six team is
- 50:26Speaker 2: ranked the highest. So apparently a lot of group of
- 50:30Speaker 2: six leaders, so like the conference presidents and the athletic
- 50:34Speaker 2: directors are just now figuring out that it doesn't it's
- 50:37Speaker 2: not even a conference champion, which is wild to me
- 50:40Speaker 2: because now the playoff. Can just say, you know what,
- 50:44Speaker 2: I think two lane is gonna make us the most money.
- 50:45Speaker 2: We're gonna put two Liliane in. I don't care if
- 50:47Speaker 2: they lost to you know, sm SMUs is not American anymore.
- 50:52Speaker 2: I don't care if they lost the Navy in the
- 50:53Speaker 2: conference championship game. We're putting in two lane because two
- 50:55Speaker 2: lane is going to make us the most money. Just
- 50:57Speaker 2: choosing two lilian as an example here, not hating on
- 50:59Speaker 2: the Green Wave at all, but it's it's just another
- 51:03Speaker 2: situation in which it's just probably going to come down
- 51:06Speaker 2: to the money.
- 51:06Speaker 5: And well, crazier than that, if Notre Dame is ranked
- 51:09Speaker 5: in the top twelve, they're guaranteed a spot.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Yeah that that, I mean, that's crazy that we've over
- 51:15Speaker 2: the last week. People have yelled about that enough and
- 51:18Speaker 2: I'll yell about it some more.
- 51:19Speaker 6: They take a conference.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought we were moving in a good direction
- 51:25Speaker 2: with this year. They left Notre Dame out after they
- 51:28Speaker 2: lost to the two good teams they played. Yeah, they
- 51:31Speaker 2: lost to Miami and they lost a Noted and they
- 51:34Speaker 2: lost to a M Gully We and m beat Notre Dame.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Let me let me just say that very clearly so
- 51:38Speaker 2: that you know what I'm talking about. They lost to
- 51:40Speaker 2: the two good teams that they played, they got left
- 51:43Speaker 2: out of the playoff. I think rationally there's nothing wrong
- 51:47Speaker 2: with that. So I thought we were moving in a
- 51:50Speaker 2: good direction with not just giving Notre Dame whatever they
- 51:52Speaker 2: wanted whenever they wanted it, and then.
- 51:54Speaker 6: We just went right back to especially Miami, making it
- 51:57Speaker 6: all the way to be in.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Exactly yep, but now just moving backwards and guaranteeing them
- 52:02Speaker 2: a spot if they're ranked in the top twelve.
- 52:04Speaker 5: Hey, on the way too early, top twenty five for
- 52:07Speaker 5: next year. Notre Dame is already ranked number four.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Really, that's also not an official poll, that's just on
- 52:14Speaker 2: the ESPN. Sure, not not disagreeing with you there, but yeah,
- 52:21Speaker 2: Notre Dame is always gonna be in the top five preseason.
- 52:23Speaker 2: They could be. They could have lost all their players
- 52:25Speaker 2: and they'd be top five preseason. It's pretty ridiculous. And
- 52:30Speaker 2: they could solve this problem. They'll just join and join
- 52:33Speaker 2: the ACC. The ACC has been they have that schedule
- 52:38Speaker 2: partnership where they play like five ACC teams a year.
- 52:41Speaker 2: I think, so just join the conference and then they'll
- 52:44Speaker 2: have an even number of teams and they won't have
- 52:47Speaker 2: to do the thing where they play. Yeah, they would
- 52:50Speaker 2: win the ACC. They would definitely be a top three
- 52:52Speaker 2: team every year and probably win it most years, and
- 52:55Speaker 2: then we wouldn't have this conversation. I mean, maybe Clemson
- 52:59Speaker 2: will get back up in there, but that kind of
- 53:01Speaker 2: looks like it's going downhill. Yep, Miami, maybe they're here
- 53:08Speaker 2: to stay. Who knows, they haven't been consistent in a
- 53:12Speaker 2: long time.
- 53:13Speaker 5: But yeah, worse than this, the parameters to get into
- 53:19Speaker 5: the playoff. What do you think about the playoff scheduling?
- 53:23Speaker 5: I think it's terrible.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Well, it keeps moving backwards. I mean it's we're gonna have.
- 53:27Speaker 6: To get rid of conference championship games.
- 53:29Speaker 2: It does seem to be moving in that direction. And
- 53:31Speaker 2: I don't know if that's a problem.
- 53:33Speaker 6: I don't think it's going to be.
- 53:34Speaker 2: I don't know if that part's a problem. I think
- 53:37Speaker 2: it's fine will to just say whichever team has the
- 53:40Speaker 2: best record wins the conference. I don't I don't love that,
- 53:45Speaker 2: but it's fine, like opposed to other things. That's not
- 53:48Speaker 2: the worst that could happen. But yeah, the schedule is
- 53:53Speaker 2: going to keep getting longer, especially if we go to
- 53:55Speaker 2: twenty four teams, then we're absolutely going to have to
- 54:01Speaker 2: get rid of conference games because nobody's going to want
- 54:03Speaker 2: to play nineteen games in a season. We do have
- 54:07Speaker 2: one more bit of breaking news before we in the show.
- 54:10Speaker 5: Here.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Former Aggie baseball hitting coach and hurting coordinator Caleb Longley
- 54:19Speaker 2: is headed to the Reds organization as a hitting instructor.
- 54:22Speaker 2: All right, so after the beef that went down with
- 54:27Speaker 2: Longley and the Aggies parting ways, he is now going
- 54:31Speaker 2: into professional baseball.
- 54:33Speaker 5: That's the guy who said he was going to go
- 54:34Speaker 5: start his own business.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Well he already Okay, so he already had his own business, right,
- 54:38Speaker 2: And there was well, there were conflicts supposedly between I'm not.
- 54:44Speaker 6: Sure the contract that said that he wasn't able to
- 54:46Speaker 6: leave within there were certain things written in the contract that.
- 54:50Speaker 2: Was kind of yeah, he didn't like the way the
- 54:51Speaker 2: contract was written, exactly Basically, it sounded like a lot
- 54:56Speaker 2: of the disagreements had stemmed from them not liking that
- 54:59Speaker 2: he had his own side business. And I don't know
- 55:01Speaker 2: if that might have been because he was, you know,
- 55:03Speaker 2: helping train other schools players maybe something like that. And
- 55:06Speaker 2: exactly sure, I get it. But I mean, this seems
- 55:09Speaker 2: like a pretty good solution. Just go to professional baseball.
- 55:11Speaker 2: So congratulations, it's a pretty good deal for him. Well,
- 55:16Speaker 2: we are right up against the final break here, so
- 55:19Speaker 2: we'll take a quick break and then that's going to
- 55:21Speaker 2: do it for us here on sports Talk.
