- 0:00Speaker 1: But I never told her who was coming.
- 0:02Speaker 2: So she in there cooking and cooking and cooking, and
- 0:04Speaker 2: she making some nice, some good crispy fried chicken and
- 0:08Speaker 2: doing stuff. And Denzel comes over her shoulder and say,
- 0:12Speaker 2: how long is it going to take for the food ready? Yo,
- 0:15Speaker 2: she turned around. Yo, judge, it was greased everywhere, bro.
- 0:19Speaker 2: She just panicked, bro. She was like, how long is
- 0:22Speaker 2: the food ready?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yo, man.
- 0:25Speaker 2: I teach my kids, you... Only possess money, but you
- 0:32Speaker 2: own your name.
- 0:35Speaker 1: And they let me direct the episode this year, so
- 0:38Speaker 1: that's going to start my directing career.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Have you done your directing yet, or it's coming up?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Never. I've never directed anything.
- 0:45Speaker 4: I'm Judge Greg Mathis. And I am Linda Mathis. Welcome

- 1:12Speaker 4: know who's going to be on. And today we have
- 1:15Speaker 4: one of the most inspirational figures of our time. And
- 1:20Speaker 4: that being Daryl Chill Mitchell. Many of us know. That's right.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Many of us know of the great job he does
- 1:29Speaker 4: on NCIS, the great jobs he's done in New Orleans,
- 1:35Speaker 4: the great job he's done on many of his other shows, Brothers,
- 1:40Speaker 4: where he won an NAACP award. I don't have anything
- 1:43Speaker 4: to write from. I just know the brother because he
- 1:46Speaker 4: is my guy. We're members of the elite crew of
- 1:53Speaker 4: LA and New York. And thank you, brother, for coming on.
- 1:57Speaker 4: You're like a brother to me. We love you to
- 1:59Speaker 4: death here in our family, and we appreciate you. We
- 2:01Speaker 4: know you got to go and read your script shortly,
- 2:04Speaker 4: because you got a tape tomorrow, so we're not going
- 2:07Speaker 4: to hold you too long.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm good, bro. You know I'm here for you, baby.
- 2:11Speaker 1: You know, make it pop.
- 2:13Speaker 5: You know, what I would love to know is, what's
- 2:15Speaker 5: this crew you were talking about?
- 2:17Speaker 1: Oh, man, that's an elite crew.
- 2:19Speaker 4: We gang members. You know, a crew is a small sect.
- 2:23Speaker 4: of a larger game.
- 2:25Speaker 1: There it is.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Don't get yourself in trouble.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Don't get yourself in trouble.
- 2:34Speaker 4: I'm just kidding y'all, whoever signed that one.
- 2:38Speaker 5: But I only followed up because it was led by
- 2:42Speaker 5: the elite, the famous, the great, the great Butch Lewis.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Led by the great Butch Lewis. But one of the
- 2:51Speaker 4: great things, he brought us all together. You before me,
- 2:54Speaker 4: I came in about 20 years ago. And one of
- 2:57Speaker 4: the things we used to talk about behind your back, uh,
- 3:04Speaker 4: was your courage and your strength and how they were
- 3:08Speaker 4: able to support you. They were there for you. They
- 3:11Speaker 4: didn't have to say they were there for you. I
- 3:13Speaker 4: could tell by the discussions we were having that the
- 3:16Speaker 4: crew was there for you when you had your motorcycle
- 3:20Speaker 4: accident that caused you paralysis.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Oh, definitely, man.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yo, I mean, the way they rallied around me, Denzel
- 3:31Speaker 2: flew off from L.A. Leon was in Jamaica.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Is that Denzel Washington you're referring to?
- 3:35Speaker 1: Mr. Washington.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Denzel, we know that.
- 3:37Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Denzel. His name ain't Denzel.
- 3:40Speaker 1: It's Denzel. You got to say it right.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Leon got one name, so certainly Denzel.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Denzel got one name. You know what I'm saying? But, yeah, man,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I mean, they riled.
- 3:51Speaker 2: They came through. And the crazy part was I was
- 3:54Speaker 2: in the hospital. Well, I was in rehab. So I
- 3:57Speaker 2: came out that weekend just to come home. And the
- 3:59Speaker 2: fight was happening. So Butch was like, yo, he can't
- 4:04Speaker 2: go to the fight, so we're going to go to
- 4:06Speaker 2: Atlanta and watch the fight with him. So everybody came
- 4:09Speaker 2: to Atlanta, man, and got in the house. And my mom,
- 4:12Speaker 2: God bless her, was alive at the time, man. She
- 4:14Speaker 2: said she had to go outside, because she said, I
- 4:17Speaker 2: couldn't stand seeing all them grown men cry. So I
- 4:19Speaker 2: couldn't take it. So she went outside. But it was cool,
- 4:22Speaker 2: because my sister came, and she was cooking. And I
- 4:25Speaker 2: was like, y'all, I have some guests coming over. I'm
- 4:27Speaker 2: coming home.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I need you to cook for me. but I never
- 4:30Speaker 1: told her who was coming.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So she in there cooking and cooking and cooking, and
- 4:34Speaker 2: she making some nice, some good crispy fried chicken and
- 4:38Speaker 2: doing stuff. And Denzel comes over her shoulder and say,
- 4:42Speaker 2: how long is it going to take until the food ready?
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yo, she turned around.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yo, judge, it was grease everywhere, bro. She panicked, bro.
- 4:51Speaker 2: She was like, how long is the food ready?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yo, man. And we sat down and ate and drank
- 4:55Speaker 1: and we watched the fight, man. And you know what?
- 4:59Speaker 1: It was a good feeling, because it made me feel
- 5:01Speaker 1: like the cavalry has arrived.
- 5:02Speaker 4: That's right. That's right.
- 5:04Speaker 1: And from that point. Circle the wagons. Circle the wagons.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And then they went.
- 5:08Speaker 3: She wasn't lifted to her spirits.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Oh, definitely. Definitely.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Because then after that, like, that was the Tyson fight
- 5:14Speaker 2: that happened in Tennessee. And that's when Butch was like, no,
- 5:18Speaker 2: he gone. So Denzel flew me down to Tennessee with him,
- 5:22Speaker 2: and I flew back with, they flew me back.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Oh, and all one for Memphis for Tyson.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Denzel, they was like, you coming, Denzel flew to Atlanta, came,
- 5:31Speaker 2: got me, we got on the Tyson, and they picked
- 5:33Speaker 2: me up and put me on the bus.
- 5:35Speaker 1: It was like, yo, you ain't getting left behind, Jack.
- 5:37Speaker 4: That's the kind of cats they are.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Motivated, no doubt. Yes, definitely.
- 5:42Speaker 4: And he started it, because, you know, the thing, it
- 5:46Speaker 4: was a strong group of brothers, high-level brothers, And he
- 5:49Speaker 4: started it as a men's prayer group. And then you
- 5:54Speaker 4: came in and turned us all out. We was there
- 5:58Speaker 4: for a prayer group. There you go.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I blew up the whole prayer group. Yeah, man. Yeah,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I figured that.
- 6:09Speaker 4: We started going to fights. We started drinking and smoking cigarettes.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But don't remember what you said. I was there before you.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So evidently the group was together and we was praying.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I know before you got there, I had my head
- 6:28Speaker 2: bowed down.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I had a Bible. When you got there, I picked
- 6:30Speaker 1: my head up and I had a bottle of crap.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I didn't know what happened.
- 6:34Speaker 4: I'd have told on myself. You're right.
- 6:36Speaker 1: So I did because I was there before you.
- 6:38Speaker 4: That's right. So take us through pre-accident and now.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Yo, a lot of people don't know that I started
- 6:46Speaker 2: out as a rapper. They always thought I was an actor.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I was on Uptown Records that was created by Andre Harrell.
- 6:53Speaker 4: You kidding? Did you know Alonzo got me on television?
- 6:56Speaker 1: Dude, come on, bruh. All right. You kidding me?
- 6:59Speaker 4: I know you didn't tell nobody.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Oh, you know, he told me that.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Matter of fact, I was doing a movie in L.A.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I was doing it in Sgt. Bilko around that time
- 7:11Speaker 2: when your show just started. And we was shooting on
- 7:14Speaker 2: Universal Live. And that's when Alonzo had a little office
- 7:17Speaker 2: up in there. Man, proud as a peacock, bro. Like, yo,
- 7:21Speaker 2: I got this show coming with the judge.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yo, it's going to be fire. Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 4: I flew him into Detroit a few weeks ago, spent
- 7:30Speaker 4: a couple days with him.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Oh, nice, bro. That's what's up, man.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I ain't talk to him in a minute, though. I
- 7:36Speaker 2: got to get up with him. I ain't talk to him.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I ain't talk to Zola in a minute. But, yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 2: so you know the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde connection
- 7:42Speaker 2: between them two. So after that, we was the first
- 7:46Speaker 2: original groups of Uptown. In fact, I was one of
- 7:49Speaker 2: the last ones to sign Uptown. So now, yeah, we
- 7:53Speaker 2: was the last group. Andre was in the studio mixing
- 7:56Speaker 2: some music, and he heard our song. And he wanted
- 7:59Speaker 2: to know, he's like, yo, who is that group? And
- 8:01Speaker 2: my man was like, yo, that's Groove Beach Hill. And
- 8:03Speaker 2: he was like, yo, I need to meet them. And
- 8:05Speaker 2: then we came to Uptown. He's like, yo, I heard
- 8:07Speaker 2: your music, man. He said, I need one more act
- 8:10Speaker 2: to do this production company. We was like, yo, we
- 8:13Speaker 2: inked the deal, got the lawyer, got everything set. Before
- 8:16Speaker 2: you know it, we was on Uptown. So it was
- 8:18Speaker 2: Heavy D and the Boys, Groovy Chill, DJ Marley Mar,
- 8:21Speaker 2: Brothers Black, Finesse Sequiz. And that started the Hutland Brothers
- 8:28Speaker 2: was directing all the Andre videos. Because they was just
- 8:34Speaker 2: starting out. So they was trying to get popping. So
- 8:37Speaker 2: when they got there, Andre put them on a task.
- 8:41Speaker 2: So I tell people always pay to be somewhere on
- 8:44Speaker 2: time or early.
- 8:45Speaker 1: That's right. We was there. We was on time because
- 8:48Speaker 1: we was hungry, man.
- 8:50Speaker 2: And we had like almost two hours to just kill
- 8:53Speaker 2: with Reggie and Wharton.
- 8:55Speaker 1: And the rest of them, Reggie said, yo, man, I
- 8:57Speaker 1: wrote a movie. It's a thesis. I did it, but
- 9:01Speaker 1: now I want to turn it into a film. He
- 9:03Speaker 1: said it was a movie.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I forgot the original name, but it was about throwing
- 9:08Speaker 2: parties back in the 70s and stuff like that.
- 9:11Speaker 1: But he wanted to bring it up to date.
- 9:13Speaker 2: And me and my DJ Bilal, at the time, that's
- 9:15Speaker 2: what we was doing to make money, doing house parties.
- 9:18Speaker 1: So he inked it and put us in the movie.
- 9:21Speaker 1: So the original script said Groove Be Chill. It didn't
- 9:24Speaker 1: say Kid and Play.
- 9:27Speaker 2: So what happened, they went and started shopping the movie,
- 9:32Speaker 2: trying to get a deal. But what happened, they had,
- 9:35Speaker 2: you know, everybody was liking it, someone was passing on it.
- 9:39Speaker 2: And then finally, New Line Cinema said, we love the movie,
- 9:42Speaker 2: but we just need some bigger stars in there. And
- 9:44Speaker 2: they wanted actors. And yo, Reggie wanted to stuck to
- 9:48Speaker 2: their guns and was like, no, no, no. I'm telling you,
- 9:51Speaker 2: we need to put some rappers in here, rappers and
- 9:53Speaker 2: rappers and rappers. So what they did, they had New
- 9:56Speaker 2: Line Cinema meet with Kid N Play. And Kid N
- 10:00Speaker 2: Play came up to the office. And then they left
- 10:04Speaker 2: to get ready to leave. So they was like, they
- 10:06Speaker 2: had a little meeting with him. Play was like, he said,
- 10:09Speaker 2: I'm telling you, our audition was garbage. He said, they
- 10:12Speaker 2: tried to give us some improv. We just do what
- 10:15Speaker 2: we can do because they wasn't actors either. So when
- 10:18Speaker 2: they walked Kid N Play out, of the office, school
- 10:22Speaker 2: had let out at the same time. So all the
- 10:26Speaker 2: kids that knew rap saw Kitten play in the street.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And that's, they walked on right back in the office
- 10:33Speaker 2: and realized that they had their stars. And they made
- 10:36Speaker 2: us the supporting actors in the movie. Now, if you
- 10:40Speaker 2: ever watched the movie, Martin Lawrence's name is Bilal. My
- 10:46Speaker 2: DJ real name is Bilal. So Kitten became me. play
- 10:51Speaker 2: became groove, and Martin became Bilal. So that's why, and
- 10:55Speaker 2: so a lot of that stuff is loosely based off
- 10:58Speaker 2: our life. Because a lot of stuff we told Reggie
- 11:01Speaker 2: and Warren to like, my moms would never let me
- 11:04Speaker 2: have a house party. That wasn't going to happen. So
- 11:06Speaker 2: what happened, something happened in South Carolina where they from.
- 11:09Speaker 2: So my moms went down south. So I called my brother.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I was like, all right, man.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Come on, man.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Can I have a party? Because he had respect. Nobody
- 11:16Speaker 2: was going to tear the house up. So he's like, yo,
- 11:18Speaker 2: go ahead, man. Man, we started putting equipment together. I
- 11:21Speaker 2: called Bilal.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I said, yo, bro, you got to come to my house, man,
- 11:24Speaker 1: bring the equipment. We're going to have a party. He said, what?
- 11:27Speaker 2: Where your mom's at? Because he knew better. I said, yo,
- 11:29Speaker 2: my mom's down south. Way down south. And you hear
- 11:33Speaker 2: Play say that in the movie.
- 11:35Speaker 1: All that.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's that. You know, they formulate the movie, man.
- 11:40Speaker 2: But after that, bro, a lot of people just started
- 11:44Speaker 2: looking for me. they was looking for this new comedian
- 11:49Speaker 2: that they saw in the movie House Party. And they
- 11:53Speaker 2: kept saying, yo. And every time I kept going to auditions,
- 11:56Speaker 2: they kept asking me, you still doing comedy? Because Hollywood
- 12:00Speaker 2: didn't know anything about my rap career. But that movie
- 12:03Speaker 2: blew up so big, I tell people all the time,
- 12:07Speaker 2: House Party superseded my career. Because after that movie blew up,
- 12:12Speaker 2: I was a regional actor. No, excuse me. I was
- 12:15Speaker 2: a regional rapper. But that movie was international. It blew
- 12:20Speaker 2: up so big. I went from being a rapper trying
- 12:23Speaker 2: to act to an actor trying to rap.
- 12:27Speaker 3: All right.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Love it. Love it. It went crazy, dog. And from there,
- 12:32Speaker 1: everybody kept looking for me.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Did you get an agent right after that? Or did
- 12:36Speaker 4: it take a minute? I found out over the years
- 12:39Speaker 4: it's hard.
- 12:39Speaker 1: To get an agent.
- 12:40Speaker 4: I don't want one. I don't want to do anything.
- 12:42Speaker 4: But they say it's hard to get an agent.
- 12:45Speaker 2: So this is what happened. Warrington, very instrumental in my career.
- 12:50Speaker 2: He had an agent.
- 12:51Speaker 4: That's Reggie's brother? That's Reggie Hutland's brother?
- 12:55Speaker 2: Reggie and Warrington Hutland. They had an agent. Her name
- 12:58Speaker 2: was Janice Ross of not William Morris, Triad. I don't
- 13:05Speaker 2: know if you remember that. Yeah, I'm familiar with Triad.
- 13:07Speaker 2: So what happened, he had talked to her about me.
- 13:13Speaker 2: And Groove as well. And what he did, they was
- 13:17Speaker 2: basically seeing this explosion happening with the black movies, and
- 13:23Speaker 2: especially these teenage movies. So they was taking as many
- 13:28Speaker 2: black kids as they can take and throwing them up
- 13:31Speaker 2: to see who stick on the wall. And the ones
- 13:34Speaker 2: who stuck, they stuck, they kept them. And the ones
- 13:36Speaker 2: that didn't, they let them go.
- 13:38Speaker 1: So what advice do you have?
- 13:40Speaker 4: You know, we got... I would venture to say 100,000
- 13:44Speaker 4: folks want to be actors and actresses. And Detroit and
- 13:49Speaker 4: Atlanta now are booming with local actors and actresses. Of course, L.A.,
- 13:54Speaker 4: but other places where they're shooting. Well, how would you
- 13:57Speaker 4: advise them to get an agent? Because I keep getting
- 14:00Speaker 4: these calls. Can you recommend me? I don't know any
- 14:03Speaker 4: agents because I'm not an actor. What do you suggest
- 14:07Speaker 4: to them?
- 14:10Speaker 2: Well, the thing is with me, when I got my
- 14:13Speaker 2: agent and even my manager, you have to have something moving.
- 14:19Speaker 2: That bottom line, it all comes down to hustle. And
- 14:22Speaker 2: you know and I know that the hustle don't stop.
- 14:26Speaker 2: A lot of people, you know, they always have a
- 14:28Speaker 2: tendency to blame managers and agents when they career. Even
- 14:32Speaker 2: ones that's already established. They be like, oh, man, my agent.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I need a new agent, man, because I'm not getting
- 14:37Speaker 2: the work. Yo, I've been with my manager for 40 years.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I've been with her as an agent. And when she
- 14:45Speaker 2: was with William Morris and she said, I'm leaving and
- 14:48Speaker 2: going on my own.
- 14:49Speaker 1: You can stay or you can go. I believe in loyalty.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I left with her. Okay.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And so it ain't about, she wasn't even, but she
- 14:57Speaker 2: just was a manager, but she had connections. So we
- 15:01Speaker 2: was hustling together. She'd make the phone calls. But at
- 15:04Speaker 2: the end of the day, you got the best agent
- 15:06Speaker 2: in the world. But if you get in that room
- 15:09Speaker 2: and you ain't ready, right, and prepared, you still ain't
- 15:13Speaker 2: going to book.
- 15:15Speaker 1: So it's about you got to network. It's a lot
- 15:21Speaker 1: of stuff. And write and produce with all this digital
- 15:26Speaker 1: stuff that you can use, telephones. So ain't no excuse.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Whole new world.
- 15:34Speaker 2: So many opportunities. They waiting to get hired. I'm not waiting.
- 15:39Speaker 2: My son right now, he's acting in the episode of
- 15:42Speaker 2: my show. But he's writing. They both, they writing. They
- 15:46Speaker 2: trying to create their own. I'm like, see?
- 15:49Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 15:50Speaker 3: That's exactly another actress, my son, who's acting right now.
- 15:56Speaker 4: But she gave him the same advice. Produce your own stuff.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Write, write, write, and produce it.
- 16:02Speaker 2: There's so many outlets now. for you to get your
- 16:06Speaker 2: stuff out there.
- 16:07Speaker 4: So tell us more about your career after House Party
- 16:10Speaker 4: and give us some more of your favorite roles that
- 16:14Speaker 4: you've played.
- 16:15Speaker 2: The thing is, the House Party, I went to L.A.,
- 16:19Speaker 2: I left New York, I said, Ignorance is Bliss, I'm
- 16:22Speaker 2: going to come out to L.A. for maybe two weeks
- 16:26Speaker 2: and get in some more movies because originally, I.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Wasn't trying to be an actor.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I was just trying to sell more records. But, House
- 16:35Speaker 2: Party was so popular. And you know my trademark hat
- 16:39Speaker 2: that I wear. That was just, that hat did it all.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So I'm like, yo, you know, if I do more movies,
- 16:47Speaker 2: I can sell more records. I'm going to go out
- 16:49Speaker 2: there for two weeks and get in some movies. I
- 16:52Speaker 2: ain't going, I'm going to get in some movies. Like,
- 16:54Speaker 2: they just going to.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Put me in. So I came out for two weeks.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And my agent was like, listen, about maybe the fourth day,
- 17:05Speaker 2: She said, yo, they looking for a character for this
- 17:07Speaker 2: new show with John Larroquette. And I was like, well, okay,
- 17:12Speaker 2: I go audition for a TV show. But that wasn't my,
- 17:15Speaker 2: I wasn't here for that. I was here to get
- 17:17Speaker 2: in movies. But I said, you know what, let me
- 17:19Speaker 2: go ahead and see what's going on.
- 17:22Speaker 1: It's acting. So I go out there. Next thing you know,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I nailed the show. Boom. I come out to L.A.
- 17:30Speaker 1: for two weeks and stayed for 10 years. Yeah.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Now it sounds like you had two passions, one hip
- 17:37Speaker 4: hop rap as a talent and an actor. So which
- 17:46Speaker 4: one is your strongest passion?
- 17:49Speaker 2: Hip hop was definitely my love. The thing is, I
- 17:54Speaker 2: knew I wanted to act, but the rapping happened.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, there you go. It happened. There you go.
- 18:00Speaker 2: But I wanted to be... All my heart of heart,
- 18:03Speaker 2: I always wanted to, inside I wanted to be an actor.
- 18:06Speaker 2: But then I realized, I'm like, yo, the hip hop happened,
- 18:10Speaker 2: so I figured I could use that acting to promote
- 18:15Speaker 2: the rapping.
- 18:16Speaker 1: That was my whole goal.
- 18:18Speaker 2: But now I'm realizing, dude, you're not a rapper at
- 18:21Speaker 2: this moment, you're an actor.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Do you understand?
- 18:27Speaker 2: Every Friday, because when you're on the road as an artist,
- 18:31Speaker 2: You go out on the road, you go home.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Right. Every Friday, I had a red-eye booked, and I
- 18:37Speaker 1: went back to New York for two years. Really? I
- 18:41Speaker 1: do that.
- 18:42Speaker 4: I've done that every six weeks to Detroit for 22 years.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Well, I did. But, I mean, not knowing what, I'm like, yeah,
- 18:52Speaker 1: I got to go home because, you know, we on
- 18:53Speaker 1: the roads. I would get home. I'd get off the plane.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I'd lay down. I'd get up.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I'd go to the barbershop. My man would cut me up.
- 19:01Speaker 2: That night, we head out, we go to Nell's, party
- 19:04Speaker 2: in that club all night. Then that day, they drive
- 19:07Speaker 2: me back to the airport. We mill around outside, talk trash.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Then I get on the plane, come back to LA,
- 19:12Speaker 2: get my script, and be ready for Monday morning. I
- 19:15Speaker 2: did that for a while. And I was even still
- 19:17Speaker 2: going out doing spot dates on tours. But my voice
- 19:20Speaker 2: was getting raspy. So I would come in, and they
- 19:23Speaker 2: was like, yo, what are you doing? I said, man,
- 19:27Speaker 2: I had to do a show this weekend.
- 19:28Speaker 1: It was like, where you was at? I'm telling him
- 19:30Speaker 1: all these things. He's like, yo, bro, hold up, hold up,
- 19:32Speaker 1: hold up, hold up.
- 19:32Speaker 4: I bet you like me. Your old ass can't do
- 19:35Speaker 4: that no more.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Oh, bro, I'm everywhere, man. I'm everywhere. I just came
- 19:41Speaker 2: back from Dubai, man. What you talking about? I'm outside.
- 19:43Speaker 4: That's right.
- 19:44Speaker 1: That's right.
- 19:48Speaker 5: Hey, you understand.
- 19:49Speaker 1: They just wrote.
- 19:50Speaker 4: I can't do 18, 21 hours no more.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Man, come on, man.
- 19:54Speaker 4: I'm glad I did it in my 40s. I'm done, man.
- 19:57Speaker 4: 12 hours max. That's all I'm doing.
- 20:01Speaker 1: You can do it, man. You can do it. It
- 20:02Speaker 1: might not matter, man.
- 20:05Speaker 3: I remember the first time I met you. I think
- 20:08Speaker 3: we was with the crew, maybe. I don't know where
- 20:09Speaker 3: we were at.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Florida.
- 20:12Speaker 4: You remember it was Florida, you think?
- 20:14Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. And I know, I said, I know you. Y'all did.
- 20:19Speaker 4: You rolled away and said, oh, no, you don't. You
- 20:24Speaker 4: got me in trouble. I laughed so hard.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I remember that, too. I bet it was like.
- 20:34Speaker 4: It brought love for me from home.
- 20:37Speaker 1: No, you don't.
- 20:40Speaker 4: You keep your house rolling, don't you?
- 20:42Speaker 1: I mess with people all the time.
- 20:44Speaker 2: They recognize my face, but what throws them off, they've
- 20:49Speaker 2: seen so many projects that I've done walking, and they
- 20:54Speaker 2: are on TV now. When they see me, they get
- 20:59Speaker 2: confused with, are you acting? Are you walking? When they
- 21:04Speaker 2: see me, they're like, yo, you look familiar. And I go,
- 21:07Speaker 2: the first thing I say, what church you go to?
- 21:10Speaker 2: And they'd be like, oh, well, I don't go to
- 21:12Speaker 2: church now, but I used to go to Ebenezer Baptist
- 21:14Speaker 2: Church all the time. I said, that's it.
- 21:15Speaker 1: You know Sister Williams? Yeah, I know.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I said, that's it. Me and you, you know Sister Williams.
- 21:21Speaker 2: And they go, yeah, every church got a Sister Williams.
- 21:24Speaker 1: That's right. That's right.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Sister Jackson.
- 21:25Speaker 1: This one used to be high school, yes.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I throw on my Sister Williams, Sister Jackson, and
- 21:30Speaker 2: they be going right along with it.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Yeah, man, I ain't seen you in a long time.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Then I.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Then I finally tell them. I'm like, man, I'm chill
- 21:39Speaker 2: house party, man. And boy, they be like, yo, you
- 21:42Speaker 2: had me, God. It was driving me crazy, God. No,
- 21:45Speaker 2: I knew your face. But I say all the time, man,
- 21:48Speaker 2: I must be doing something right. If you can remember
- 21:50Speaker 2: me from a project I did 36 years.
- 21:52Speaker 1: That's right.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Right, right.
- 21:54Speaker 1: The blessing, man. In 10 years, you.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Know black don't crack, so you're looking the same.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Hello. Hello. Look at that one over there.
- 22:03Speaker 3: I'm sure you see some other people, you go like, okay.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Talk about your home life.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Does Carol make you do much? You know, the kids,
- 22:13Speaker 4: how they treat you? Do they do me like my kids?
- 22:16Speaker 4: Are you a chump at home?
- 22:19Speaker 2: There's got to be, man. My wife, she hold a
- 22:22Speaker 2: four down, man. That's one right there. And she ain't
- 22:25Speaker 2: but four foot eleven.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 22:28Speaker 2: She's 4'11, man. But that thing is a firecracker, Jack.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Short with a big stick.
- 22:33Speaker 1: She'll play. She'll play.
- 22:35Speaker 2: My wife is Native American, man. I don't know if
- 22:37Speaker 2: you ever heard of Indians called Montauk.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Yes, sure. In the southeast.
- 22:43Speaker 4: They're in Connecticut.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Long Island and that far end. Because my sons and them,
- 22:50Speaker 2: they just came back. They went to the powwow. They've
- 22:53Speaker 2: been going since they was kids, man. They go out
- 22:55Speaker 2: and they see their family.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Beautiful.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Yeah, man.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Hey, Chill, it's Amir right here.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I got a question.
- 23:01Speaker 5: You know, on the few episodes ago, getting a little
- 23:04Speaker 5: deep here, we talked about, you know, breaking the cycle.
- 23:07Speaker 5: You know, my dad said he didn't raise up, he didn't,
- 23:08Speaker 5: who wasn't raised with a father. So he didn't know
- 23:11Speaker 5: how to raise children. He had to learn from his father-in-law,
- 23:14Speaker 5: things like that. What are some things that you keep
- 23:17Speaker 5: from the way your parents raised you and and you
- 23:20Speaker 5: choose differently to do how you raise your sons?
- 23:25Speaker 2: I teach my kids, you only possess money, but you
- 23:33Speaker 2: own your name.
- 23:36Speaker 1: You possess money.
- 23:37Speaker 2: I drop a $ 100 bill on this floor right now,
- 23:39Speaker 2: and you pick it up and walk to the store.
- 23:41Speaker 2: The man ain't going to say, oh, we can't cash that,
- 23:45Speaker 2: because it's blowing it down.
- 23:47Speaker 1: No, it's not true. Money is a possession. Your name
- 23:51Speaker 1: is your word. That's real.
- 23:54Speaker 4: And keep it clean.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Keep it clean, bro. In all aspects. And I teach
- 24:02Speaker 2: them credit. When they move, just like when you move
- 24:06Speaker 2: your dad, you realize how important credit is, man.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 24:10Speaker 1: When my son get in that Citron room, he's like, okay,
- 24:14Speaker 1: I see what it With good credit, get you.
- 24:18Speaker 5: And what's their ages?
- 24:19Speaker 1: What's the age?
- 24:19Speaker 4: What ages are your sons?
- 24:21Speaker 1: 27 to 29.
- 24:23Speaker 5: Okay.
- 24:23Speaker 1: How long have you and your wife been together?
- 24:25Speaker 4: 31.
- 24:26Speaker 1: We've been together since we was 19. She was 17. Oh, okay.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I'm 18.
- 24:31Speaker 3: I was 18, and he was 21.
- 24:33Speaker 4: You see, he can't count. He just gave you the dates. Hey,
- 24:36Speaker 4: that's all right, though.
- 24:37Speaker 1: He gave you the times. It is. We've known each
- 24:41Speaker 1: other over 40.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Okay. Over 40, but we've been mad. You see, he
- 24:45Speaker 4: keep estimating. Everything is this.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Hey, yo, I've been doing the math, too, Jen. I
- 24:53Speaker 1: just can't keep it. You ass up, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum.
- 24:58Speaker 4: I know one of my children's exact off the top
- 25:03Speaker 4: of my head because I know the year he was born, 90.
- 25:06Speaker 4: So all I do is add that 10 onto whatever
- 25:10Speaker 4: this year, 2000. So it's 2026, he 36 because he
- 25:16Speaker 4: was born in 90. I can hit him on the nose.
- 25:19Speaker 4: I might struggle with the other three. Every might take me.
- 25:22Speaker 4: 30 seconds for the other three.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:26Speaker 2: I'm with you on that. But yeah, man, I made
- 25:29Speaker 2: all my kids two years apart, man. I was like,
- 25:32Speaker 2: I want three kids two years apart.
- 25:34Speaker 4: That's what we did.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Yep.
- 25:36Speaker 4: All ours are two years apart.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Yeah, man. Yeah. Yeah, bro. I want to know this.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Talk to me.
- 25:43Speaker 4: You all been together so long.
- 25:45Speaker 3: I want to know that she still laugh at your jokes.
- 25:48Speaker 1: What?
- 25:49Speaker 2: Yo, my wife funny than me. My wife is funnier
- 25:54Speaker 2: than me. Because she'll say things and, yo, we, man,
- 26:01Speaker 2: I'll be busting up. Because she don't know she's funny. Like,
- 26:06Speaker 2: she'll say something and then when I, you know, I
- 26:10Speaker 2: react and I guess her being able to make me
- 26:15Speaker 2: laugh when I do it for a living, it busts,
- 26:18Speaker 2: it makes her laugh and she'll start crying because she's
- 26:21Speaker 2: laughing so much. They didn't make me laugh even more,
- 26:24Speaker 2: because it's like, she swear she told her funny.
- 26:26Speaker 1: But she funny, man. He used to tell.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Me the same jokes over and over, and I think
- 26:30Speaker 4: I'm going.
- 26:31Speaker 1: To keep laughing at him. And he keep laughing at
- 26:34Speaker 1: his own jokes.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Yes. You stay working, man. Last I knew, a couple
- 26:40Speaker 4: of years ago, you were with Michael Strahan. You all
- 26:43Speaker 4: had something?
- 26:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I got to say something about Brother Strahan, man.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Strahan saw me at the Meadowland at a game. And
- 26:51Speaker 2: he was like, yo, man, I saw your accident, bro.
- 26:54Speaker 2: He said, I was, you know, with my lady and
- 26:56Speaker 2: I saw you come across ET. I was like, yo,
- 26:58Speaker 2: that's my man. That's my man.
- 27:00Speaker 1: He didn't know me. So he just like, you know,
- 27:03Speaker 1: kind of a fan from TV and movie.
- 27:06Speaker 2: And we got in the middle of the land and
- 27:09Speaker 2: I ran into him and he was like, we was
- 27:11Speaker 2: just chopping it up, talking, talking, took a few pictures.
- 27:14Speaker 1: He said, yo, bro, if you ever need me, man,
- 27:16Speaker 1: look me up, man. And lo and behold, the opportunity came.
- 27:20Speaker 1: for me to do a TV show.
- 27:22Speaker 2: And I was like, they was like, if you hadn't
- 27:24Speaker 2: paired up with anybody else, who would you like to
- 27:26Speaker 2: pair up with?
- 27:27Speaker 1: And I was like, I would like to pair up with,
- 27:30Speaker 1: I said, yo, you know what? Let me find Strahan.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Cause I'm like, yo, you.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Know, NBA Super Bowl champion.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I was like, yo man, let me see if I
- 27:40Speaker 1: can get this brother to come on.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I made a phone call, call the agency, they called
- 27:44Speaker 2: a lawyer, tracked down Strahan, boom, told him what I
- 27:47Speaker 2: was trying to do.
- 27:47Speaker 1: He ain't had to see a script. The man was like, yo,
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'm in. I'm in. Love it. Love it.
- 27:53Speaker 2: And next thing you know, I had to go get
- 27:55Speaker 2: Don Cheadle. Don Cheadle, you talking about me? Don Rio,
- 27:59Speaker 2: who was a veteran showrunner.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Oh, you went and got him?
- 28:03Speaker 4: Not the studio? You tracked him down?
- 28:05Speaker 1: Oh, because he was the showrunner on Larrakat. Got it.
- 28:08Speaker 2: So we always had a relationship. So I emailed him
- 28:11Speaker 2: and said, yo, Don. He said, chill. You know I'm retired.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I said, what?
- 28:16Speaker 2: He said, yeah, but I'll come out of retirement for you.
- 28:19Speaker 2: And we came in, me, Strahan, and himself, and, you know,
- 28:22Speaker 2: we gave him the script, and we had a writer
- 28:25Speaker 2: put it together.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Boom. And he punched it up, and we pitched it.
- 28:29Speaker 1: We went to four networks, three out of four wanted
- 28:33Speaker 1: to show.
- 28:33Speaker 2: So I went with Fox because he already was at Fox.
- 28:37Speaker 2: So I was the executive producer. I was the music supervisor.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I was a star. And if we'd have won another season,
- 28:44Speaker 1: they was going to let me direct. I was winning
- 28:46Speaker 1: some hats.
- 28:47Speaker 2: But, you know, we only went. one season, but you
- 28:50Speaker 2: know what? I did so much, I learned so much.
- 28:54Speaker 2: So now I'm over here with this. And before, you know,
- 28:57Speaker 2: before that, I gotta go back a little bit. I
- 29:02Speaker 2: did an episode of The Cosby Show.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Yep, that's it, I remember that, yep.
- 29:07Speaker 2: So when I did that episode, before that, I used
- 29:11Speaker 2: to always say to myself, I'm like, dang, man, I
- 29:13Speaker 2: would love to play one of Malcolm's friends.
- 29:16Speaker 1: I would love to play one of Malcolm's friends on
- 29:18Speaker 1: that Cosby show. Because I just knew. I was like,
- 29:22Speaker 1: we'll rock.
- 29:22Speaker 2: So I got an episode of the Cosby show. I'm
- 29:28Speaker 2: over the moon. Just so happens this one he is
- 29:31Speaker 2: not in. He's directing it. So you know, I was happy,
- 29:36Speaker 2: but I wasn't happy.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Because I wanted to rock with him.
- 29:41Speaker 2: But it was but alan payne was in it so
- 29:44Speaker 2: we it was it was it was it came out
- 29:46Speaker 2: to be good it was cool eric alexander all of
- 29:49Speaker 2: them was in it so it was it was cool.
- 29:52Speaker 4: Now, I came and hung out with you in New
- 29:54Speaker 4: Orleans when you were shooting NCIS once.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Yes, sir.
- 29:58Speaker 4: How was that experience?
- 30:00Speaker 2: Oh, man, it was off the chain, bro. That, another one.
- 30:04Speaker 2: They called me for two episodes.
- 30:06Speaker 4: They didn't pay you enough because you didn't have no
- 30:08Speaker 4: furniture in your apartment when we come over there.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Hey, look, dog. I had to sit on the floor.
- 30:14Speaker 4: When I came over his apartment in New Orleans.
- 30:17Speaker 1: There you go. Linda, don't listen to that. I had
- 30:19Speaker 1: a penthouse.
- 30:21Speaker 2: But, you know, it was shotgun. So, you know, you
- 30:23Speaker 2: can only have so much in these joints. But it
- 30:26Speaker 2: was nice. But, yo, Judge, no, they hired me.
- 30:29Speaker 1: For two episodes of that. I did two episodes. Oh, NCIS.
- 30:34Speaker 1: And then they hired you permanently. And I went two,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and I did 12. Because it was shooting on issue 24.
- 30:41Speaker 1: And I did the whole half a season. Two episodes
- 30:44Speaker 1: turned to seven years. I did seven years of that show.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Sure did. Sure did. Right after that, a little downtime,
- 30:54Speaker 1: waiting for everything to pass up.
- 30:56Speaker 2: And that's when they sent me a letter to my agent,
- 30:59Speaker 2: my manager, was talking about, hey, man, we're interested in
- 31:02Speaker 2: a chip for this TV show, play this character.
- 31:06Speaker 1: So they sent over. They said, well, send us the breakdown.
- 31:09Speaker 1: So they sent us who was all starring in it,
- 31:12Speaker 1: Tim Allen and Kat Dennings. Now, come on. How you
- 31:16Speaker 1: going to say no to that?
- 31:18Speaker 2: So I'm like, at the end of the day, but
- 31:21Speaker 2: the thing that was crazy, Tim Allen and I had
- 31:25Speaker 2: did a movie called Galaxy Quest.
- 31:28Speaker 5: One of my favorite movies, by the way.
- 31:29Speaker 4: He said that's one of his favorite movies.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Thank you, brother.
- 31:31Speaker 5: That's a great movie.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it is.
- 31:33Speaker 5: It's almost a parody movie.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Yes. And the aliens catch the wave of the show.
- 31:40Speaker 1: So what they do, they recreate this whole spaceship and
- 31:43Speaker 1: everything that we had on the show.
- 31:45Speaker 2: And zap us out of space to fight real aliens, bro.
- 31:50Speaker 2: And that's when all the mayhem starts, bro. You got
- 31:53Speaker 2: to see when they asked me to pull the spaceship out.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Of the hub, boy. Boy, I tear that sucker up,
- 32:00Speaker 1: you hear me? Scrape it up. But when we got rocking, boy,
- 32:06Speaker 1: we got rocking.
- 32:07Speaker 4: You sound like you were having fun on this stuff.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Oh, I had fun on that one.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Another great movie I did was Steve Martin called Sergeant Bilko.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I saw that.
- 32:17Speaker 1: That was funny as hell.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I did a movie. You know I did Inside Man
- 32:23Speaker 2: with Denzel. Spike Lee made me audition.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Don't think everybody think that Denzel is the reason I
- 32:31Speaker 1: got to grow. No.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Spike had me come in and read. The reason being,
- 32:35Speaker 2: he knew he was ready to give me the role,
- 32:37Speaker 2: but he had to make sure physically that I was ready, able,
- 32:41Speaker 2: and capable. So when I came in, He was like, oh, yeah. Yo,
- 32:45Speaker 2: you know, to this day, no one has ever questioned
- 32:49Speaker 2: me being in a wheelchair inside that police truck. You
- 32:53Speaker 2: ain't never seen nobody be like, oh, man, I ain't
- 32:55Speaker 2: going to do that. And you're working in a police
- 32:57Speaker 2: truck and he in a wheelchair. No one has ever
- 32:59Speaker 2: questioned that.
- 33:01Speaker 4: That's why I say you're so inspirational, man. Thank you, brother.
- 33:04Speaker 4: People most didn't. I mean, the way you kept the
- 33:08Speaker 4: beats going, nobody would ever think. that you had the
- 33:12Speaker 4: tragedy that you had. And I'm sure not only was
- 33:16Speaker 4: that physical, but that was emotionally tormenting. And for you
- 33:21Speaker 4: to overcome that and become one of the best known
- 33:26Speaker 4: actors for my community is commendable. And we all proud
- 33:31Speaker 4: of you and you inspire a lot of people. I
- 33:34Speaker 4: just want you to know a lot of times we
- 33:36Speaker 4: don't know we inspiring when we are, but that's why
- 33:39Speaker 4: I'm letting you know.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I appreciate it, man. I appreciate it. I get those
- 33:43Speaker 1: emails all the time, man. Oh, good, good. Yeah, I do.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Just laid down.
- 33:48Speaker 2: But, I mean, this lady hit me the other day.
- 33:50Speaker 2: She was like, yo, my son just got paralyzed. I
- 33:53Speaker 2: just need, I wish you could talk to him. And
- 33:55Speaker 2: I just, you know, I contact him. I email him
- 33:57Speaker 2: back and forth to figure out what the situation is because,
- 34:00Speaker 2: you know, I mean, I just do the best I can.
- 34:02Speaker 1: You know what I mean? But you realize your responsibility, man.
- 34:05Speaker 1: It's like, oh, okay. And it's big, you know.
- 34:08Speaker 2: But a lot of people just say, too, that, just
- 34:11Speaker 2: seeing me on TV and keep going and pushing.
- 34:15Speaker 4: That's what I'm talking about, for you to not miss
- 34:18Speaker 4: a beat in your career, and you are in the
- 34:22Speaker 4: most competitive industry, in my opinion, in America.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but Judge, man, I mean, you know, a lot
- 34:32Speaker 2: of people think it was just about us having a
- 34:34Speaker 2: good time and partying and going to the fights and
- 34:36Speaker 2: all that stuff. Yo, and I know you were joking
- 34:39Speaker 2: about the prayer, but sometimes, man, I would just sit back, man,
- 34:44Speaker 2: and just look and be like, yo, this thing right here, man.
- 34:48Speaker 1: That energy, man, it was very important. It was very important.
- 34:53Speaker 4: And the wisdom we were able to share with each other.
- 34:56Speaker 4: That's what really made it special. You from New York,
- 35:00Speaker 4: Butch and Fareed, Philly.
- 35:01Speaker 5: Yeah, man.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Me, Detroit.
- 35:05Speaker 1: On and on and on.
- 35:07Speaker 4: So I think, and Meach from Atlanta and et cetera.
- 35:11Speaker 4: So I think that that made it special too.
- 35:13Speaker 1: And I'm going to be real. Sometimes I felt that,
- 35:16Speaker 1: you know, when I look at the power that we had,
- 35:19Speaker 1: I felt that we could have done more sometimes.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Yeah, we could have.
- 35:22Speaker 1: I'm serious, man.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I mean, yo, hey, I'm at the inauguration for the
- 35:28Speaker 2: president of the United States.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Dude, come on, man.
- 35:32Speaker 4: We took a couple of big swings.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I don't know if you know.
- 35:35Speaker 4: I'm sure they were going to bring you in, but
- 35:38Speaker 4: Bob and Butch led the effort for a casino in Pennsylvania.
- 35:43Speaker 4: So we were taking big swings.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:46Speaker 4: And we're going to continue to.
- 35:47Speaker 1: I know about that. We got to, man.
- 35:49Speaker 2: But, you know, especially with, you know, because Butch, that's
- 35:53Speaker 2: one thing he had the power to bring people together.
- 35:56Speaker 1: That was unique, man. I don't.
- 36:01Speaker 2: I hope we can continue to keep it together, but
- 36:04Speaker 2: I don't see nobody else being able to do that
- 36:06Speaker 2: in this lifetime.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Not in mine.
- 36:08Speaker 4: We've been trying. I tell people all the time, and
- 36:12Speaker 4: one of the things I say, he wasn't my oldest
- 36:19Speaker 4: or my closest friend, but he was my best friend.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Yeah, man, boy.
- 36:25Speaker 4: He was a friend of friends.
- 36:28Speaker 2: And that's the thing, man. That's what gets me. If
- 36:31Speaker 2: I get a job or I get a project, he's
- 36:34Speaker 2: one of my biggest cheerleaders, man. He would be over
- 36:38Speaker 2: the moon, bro.
- 36:39Speaker 4: And all he did was spend his time working out
- 36:42Speaker 4: everybody's problems every day.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Working on everybody.
- 36:45Speaker 4: Working on somebody else's stuff.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Yo, seriously, man.
- 36:48Speaker 4: Whether it's Wesley, whoever. Whoever was either having a hard
- 36:53Speaker 4: time or trying to move forward or get some advice.
- 36:56Speaker 4: I talked to him every other day. Gave me some
- 36:58Speaker 4: very solid advice. And so that's why I refer to
- 37:01Speaker 4: him as the best friend. Because he gave all of
- 37:05Speaker 4: his self to everybody else. I'm going to ask him
- 37:09Speaker 4: to tell us about the show.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Shifting gears.
- 37:12Speaker 4: I was waiting for you to stop talking. Yeah, well,
- 37:15Speaker 4: I'll turn to you. So we know your new show
- 37:17Speaker 4: is Shifting Gears. I know you hate for me to talk,
- 37:19Speaker 4: but this is a talk show.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 37:21Speaker 4: I don't know what you thought.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Maybe you're confused about what this is. Go ahead.
- 37:27Speaker 5: Whoa.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I'm just saying.
- 37:29Speaker 4: I'm waiting for you to finish.
- 37:30Speaker 1: You always say it.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Go ahead, Chill.
- 37:32Speaker 1: That's my talk to you.
- 37:34Speaker 4: I know.
- 37:34Speaker 3: I might know my husband talks, but go to your
- 37:37Speaker 3: show now. The show you're on now is Tell us
- 37:40Speaker 3: about your character on there.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I play a character named Stitch.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Well, let's hear about the show.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Oh, the show.
- 37:47Speaker 5: For someone who's never seen it before.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Okay, Shifting Gaze is a show based in California where
- 37:53Speaker 1: Tim Allen has a car restoration company where we restore
- 37:59Speaker 1: classic cars.
- 38:00Speaker 2: And that's because, you know, that's Tim's passion is cars.
- 38:03Speaker 2: So they built the show around these cars, but The Garage,
- 38:07Speaker 2: you know, it got a cast of characters in there.
- 38:10Speaker 2: So we have myself and Stitch. I do upholsteries. Then
- 38:14Speaker 2: we got another kid that he raised named Gabriel. He's
- 38:17Speaker 2: played by Sean William Scott. And then you got Cat
- 38:21Speaker 2: Dennings who plays the daughter. We got Max Simpkins. And
- 38:26Speaker 2: we got Barry Manglo. And then we got Tim Allen.
- 38:30Speaker 2: So we have all of those people. But Tim, what
- 38:33Speaker 2: happens is, Tim's daughter leaves and all of a sudden
- 38:37Speaker 2: she get broke and she got to come back home. So,
- 38:40Speaker 2: you know, he's like trying to manage because he's not
- 38:43Speaker 2: used to having kids in the house anymore. His wife
- 38:46Speaker 2: passed away. That's when his daughter's relationship becomes estranged. But
- 38:52Speaker 2: it's a family. It's definitely family orientated. It's on Disney.
- 38:55Speaker 2: It's a Disney-produced ABC network in Hulu.
- 39:00Speaker 5: Hold on. So you say it's a family show on Disney.
- 39:04Speaker 5: So I guess all the cursing goes on when they
- 39:07Speaker 5: cut the cameras.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Yeah, we be cussing, bro. There's a lot of cussing.
- 39:11Speaker 2: It's produced by Disney, but it's on ABC network.
- 39:14Speaker 5: Okay, because I know Tim Allen, man. I can imagine
- 39:16Speaker 5: you and him.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Probably go at it sometimes.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Oh, we definitely go at it, you know, because, you know,
- 39:21Speaker 2: he has a different opinion of the world than I do, so.
- 39:24Speaker 2: We go at it, but we don't bring that on
- 39:27Speaker 2: camera unless it's got something to do with a joke.
- 39:29Speaker 4: Tim DeHill, do he take props from being from Detroit?
- 39:34Speaker 1: All the time.
- 39:35Speaker 4: All the time, oh yeah. Tell him I asked about it.
- 39:38Speaker 1: I promise you I will, dog. He repping the G.
- 39:42Speaker 4: That's right, I know he used to.
- 39:44Speaker 1: You know, he had a little rough life.
- 39:45Speaker 4: You know I know.
- 39:49Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 39:51Speaker 4: He probably tried for real, for real.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:54Speaker 1: He was about that life. He was about that life.
- 39:56Speaker 2: He'll let you know, too. You know what I mean?
- 39:59Speaker 2: He did my podcast. That was the first thing he
- 40:01Speaker 2: talked about. Yeah, I did a little time in jail.
- 40:04Speaker 1: They're like, dude, you gonna start with that?
- 40:07Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 40:11Speaker 5: He was Tim Montana.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Yeah, Tim Montana, bro. But nah, he's a good dude, man.
- 40:18Speaker 2: We worked together, man.
- 40:19Speaker 1: And the producers, they didn't remember that me and him
- 40:22Speaker 1: worked together. So when they asked, they was like, yo, man,
- 40:25Speaker 1: you know, we interested in Chill for the role. And
- 40:28Speaker 1: he was like, oh, man, get Chill. I had a
- 40:30Speaker 1: bad ass working with Chill. Yeah, I remember. Yeah. back. Yeah, man.
- 40:35Speaker 2: So it's definitely a family fun show. We get it there.
- 40:39Speaker 2: We have a lot of fun. And Linda, I'm telling you,
- 40:41Speaker 2: I want Judge to be there. He can't come without you.
- 40:44Speaker 1: I know. And they let me direct the episode this year.
- 40:47Speaker 1: So that's going to start my directing career.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Have you done your directing yet or it's coming up?
- 40:52Speaker 1: Never. I never directed anything.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Oh, now you know what episode is going to be.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Maybe we can come to that one. It'll be episode nine.
- 41:00Speaker 1: We're on episode four now.
- 41:02Speaker 4: Are you also in the one you're directing?
- 41:05Speaker 1: I got a feeling I'm going to be in it
- 41:06Speaker 1: as well.
- 41:07Speaker 4: Let us know. I want to come to the one
- 41:09Speaker 4: you're in, but if you're doing both directing and in,
- 41:12Speaker 4: that'll be the one we come to.
- 41:14Speaker 5: You don't have to agree to that if you think
- 41:15Speaker 5: it's going to be a little distracting with him coming
- 41:18Speaker 5: on set when.
- 41:18Speaker 1: You see him working. I ain't with you. I may
- 41:25Speaker 1: just bring Linda. I may just bring Linda, man, because
- 41:28Speaker 1: I got kids.
- 41:29Speaker 4: I ain't going to mess your money up, man.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Don't mess up the money, man. All the executives just
- 41:35Speaker 1: turn around looking up in the bleachers like, yo, who
- 41:38Speaker 1: is that? Like, yo, don't mind him, yo. Don't mind him, though.
- 41:43Speaker 1: But yeah, man.
- 41:44Speaker 4: So we look forward, man. Do you have any final goodbyes?
- 41:48Speaker 3: All I want to say is I'm very, very impressed
- 41:51Speaker 3: with you.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I've always admired you.
- 41:54Speaker 4: And like I say, you're a treasure to us.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Oh, man. You know y'all is my heart, man. You
- 41:59Speaker 1: know that.
- 41:59Speaker 4: Give Carol our regards.
- 42:01Speaker 1: I promise you I will, man. All right, man.
- 42:03Speaker 4: We love you to death, brother.
- 42:05Speaker 1: All right, Captain. I appreciate you, man.
- 42:07Speaker 4: My guy.
- 42:08Speaker 1: All right. For life. That's right.
- 42:11Speaker 4: That's right. Okay, folks. Subscribe and follow if you want
- 42:16Speaker 4: to hear this type of content.
- 42:19Speaker 1: God bless, man. Thanks.
