- 0:04Speaker 1: I'd be a morning person if mornings started at noon.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's Sonia and Joakim on the show.
- 0:10Speaker 1: 987. Today we are joined by an icon, a queen,
- 0:15Speaker 1: an upcoming star in the international dance world, I would say.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Can I, can I give you a bit of a
- 0:21Speaker 1: worrying concern for concerts here in Singapore? Why? You know,
- 0:24Speaker 1: when the artists go to someone and he or she
- 0:27Speaker 1: is Singaporean, and for example, the artist puts the mic
- 0:30Speaker 1: in his or her face. You're just hoping that person
- 0:32Speaker 1: knows that, like, like sing because, because that 5 seconds.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Go viral on social media. And then fast forward to
- 0:39Speaker 1: 2 weeks ago for Formula One weekend where my FYP
- 0:43Speaker 1: on Reels and TikTok were blowing up with this, this queen. Look,
- 0:48Speaker 1: I mean, I've been following this icon for a long
- 0:52Speaker 1: time and the videos popped off. The videos absolutely popped off.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Please say hi to dance extraordinaire.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Hello
- 1:02Speaker 1: Singapore.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And you can add one of Zara's lush boys.
- 1:08Speaker 2: You're Singapore's lush life boy.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I love that. Thank you so much for making it
- 1:13Speaker 1: so early. Like when I dropped you a DM, I
- 1:15Speaker 1: wasn't even sure whether, you know, you'll be able to
- 1:17Speaker 1: make it at 9 a.m. because I know it's crazy early.
- 1:20Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Oh, you're Sonia Cho, of course I'm making.
- 1:25Speaker 1: No. OK, so both Sonia and I actually know Dinesh.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I won't say for me personally, but whenever, OK, this
- 1:31Speaker 1: is where I give you your flowers and I say.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Uh, I owe you a two year overdue thank you
- 1:37Speaker 1: because we've done NDP before, NDP 2024. If you watch
- 1:40Speaker 1: the Fried Rice Paradise was part of it, but I
- 1:43Speaker 1: must say, because after every NDP rehearsals, like when we
- 1:45Speaker 1: are tired, you know, decompressing, he will always be there.
- 1:49Speaker 1: He'd be like, You look good, king. You look good, queen. He,
- 1:51Speaker 1: he's such uplifting, such a light. So thank you for
- 1:54Speaker 1: doing that, even at events where I'm.
- 1:56Speaker 1: So totally bored and you were there. Him and his
- 1:58Speaker 1: presence and the and the words that you speak. Thank
- 2:01Speaker 1: you so much for being such a positive light in
- 2:03Speaker 1: this world.
- 2:04Speaker 2: So thank you guys. You guys are like such a
- 2:05Speaker 2: light and like I look up to you guys. It's
- 2:07Speaker 2: always so nice seeing you guys and you guys always
- 2:09Speaker 2: have like a nice energy and so humble. So I'm
- 2:11Speaker 2: always like, well, returning the energy bar.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So we're we're receiving lazing both ways.
- 2:19Speaker 1: But let's get straight to it. I mean, look, you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: it must have been a dream come true for you, and,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and I know that you've been hustling out there in LA.
- 2:26Speaker 1: You've been really like putting yourself out there in the
- 2:28Speaker 1: dance world. It's been paying off. How did this whole
- 2:32Speaker 1: moment happen on stage with Zahra
- 2:33Speaker 2: Larson? Oh my God.
- 2:35Speaker 2: So, honestly, obviously not planned at all. It just happened
- 2:38Speaker 2: on the day. Uh, my, I also got tickets like
- 2:41Speaker 2: literally just a week before, less than a week before. Yeah.
- 2:44Speaker 2: And then my friends were there who got tickets and
- 2:47Speaker 2: then they came early. So obviously, I, not being a
- 2:50Speaker 2: morning person.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I had to, I woke up a little late and
- 2:53Speaker 2: I had to get ready, do my makeup, do my outfit,
- 2:55Speaker 2: and then, which is like honestly just like 1 hour each. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 3:01Speaker 2: not 1 hour each, like maybe 2 hours in total,
- 3:03Speaker 2: I would say. But yeah, so like makeup and then
- 3:05Speaker 2: I was trying to film a video, you know, for content.
- 3:07Speaker 2: So that takes a lot of time somehow, you know,
- 3:10Speaker 2: and then also like I didn't put my outfit together,
- 3:12Speaker 2: so it's like on the day, just like, you know,
- 3:15Speaker 2: it's like it's in my mind. So on the day
- 3:17Speaker 2: it's just, well, let's see if it works. I just
- 3:22Speaker 2: knew I had this piece, this piece, this piece, and
- 3:24Speaker 2: I'm like, OK, let me put it together. So then
- 3:25Speaker 2: I also filmed a video.
- 3:26Speaker 2: For that, and then by the time I got there,
- 3:28Speaker 2: it was already like 4 p.m. and the day before
- 3:30Speaker 2: like Cardi, I knew the K-pop fans were there since
- 3:32Speaker 2: like last year, since last year, yeah. So I was like,
- 3:36Speaker 2: oh my God, no way am I like gonna make it,
- 3:39Speaker 2: you know. And then my friends who were there, they
- 3:40Speaker 2: said they got barricades, so I was screaming, and they
- 3:42Speaker 2: met her dancers because that's how early they were.
- 3:45Speaker 2: walking around and everything. So, yeah, and then I just
- 3:48Speaker 2: came there. I was like barricade, thank God. And then
- 3:51Speaker 2: she came on and on like I think the crowd
- 3:53Speaker 2: came like literally 45 minutes before the set. That's when
- 3:56Speaker 2: everyone came. And during, obviously I knew what was gonna
- 3:59Speaker 2: happen and I was like manifesting with my friends like
- 4:01Speaker 2: I want to be the Lush Life boy. I even
- 4:03Speaker 2: posted on TikTok, like not even thinking should come here.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Like last year I was like, oh, well, when Zara
- 4:08Speaker 2: Larson comes to Singapore, this is what I'm gonna do. Yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 2: so I think that was really like manifestation at its core,
- 4:13Speaker 2: you know, so.
- 4:14Speaker 2: So when it came on, I made sure I got
- 4:16Speaker 2: like as much attention on me. My friends were all
- 4:19Speaker 2: pointing at me and it also helped that the dancers
- 4:22Speaker 2: recognized them, I think. They were like, wait, it's, it's
- 4:24Speaker 2: you guys. So and then I was like, me, me, me,
- 4:26Speaker 2: and then I was like trying to dance also to
- 4:28Speaker 2: show them like I'm a dancer. I'm not just like,
- 4:32Speaker 2: you're not gonna go on stage and like, I don't know,
- 4:33Speaker 2: do something random, like I'm gonna dance. So, and the
- 4:37Speaker 2: dancer saw me, thank God, and Zara came and she
- 4:39Speaker 2: was like, Wait, do you see someone? And the dancer
- 4:41Speaker 2: pointed me out and
- 4:43Speaker 1: The
- 4:44Speaker 2: rest
- 4:44Speaker 1: is history.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Oh my God. Can
- 4:46Speaker 1: I, can I ask a follow-up question on the topic
- 4:48Speaker 1: of making sure that it wasn't rehearsed and all that, right?
- 4:51Speaker 1: How hard was it convincing people like, guys, look, I
- 4:54Speaker 1: know I dance, but I didn't plan this. No one,
- 4:57Speaker 1: because everyone who knows you know you're an amazing dancer. Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Thank you so much. Well, honestly, I had a few
- 5:03Speaker 2: comments on like TikTok and Instagram like, oh, was this stage,
- 5:06Speaker 2: but it wasn't anything like rude or anything. It was
- 5:08Speaker 2: just a question. So all I had to do was
- 5:10Speaker 2: just make a video and be like, yeah, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 2: this is a
- 5:12Speaker 2: viral moment and I think a lot of them know
- 5:13Speaker 2: that also. So it's like, yeah, it was just me
- 5:16Speaker 2: saying that that's it. It wasn't that hard to be like, guys,
- 5:18Speaker 2: listen
- 5:19Speaker 1: to me. Thank
- 5:20Speaker 1: goodness Singapore represent and represent well on stage. Yeah, thank
- 5:23Speaker 1: you so much. I mean, so after that whole experience,
- 5:26Speaker 1: like I'm sure that you're still like reeling from it
- 5:28Speaker 1: and you know, you're still looking at the videos and
- 5:30Speaker 1: the pictures every day. I'm very sure.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Every day day.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Then how are you gonna top this after? Did you
- 5:36Speaker 1: like start to think about that or,
- 5:38Speaker 2: well, that's what I'm like, well, what's next now?
- 5:41Speaker 2: because it's insane and that is like the highest high
- 5:43Speaker 2: of a high I could have like, in my entire
- 5:46Speaker 2: life and like one of my biggest milestones, I would say,
- 5:49Speaker 2: but I feel like for me, I always manifest what's
- 5:51Speaker 2: next and what's, what's, what, what are the goals I
- 5:54Speaker 2: can um top like how do you use this to, yeah, exactly.
- 5:57Speaker 2: So I'm, you know, trying to like make content of this,
- 6:00Speaker 2: but also, you know, trying to let my brand new
- 6:02Speaker 2: audience also get to know Dinesh who he is and
- 6:06Speaker 2: hopefully like the world and whoever who needs to see
- 6:08Speaker 2: me sees me and um.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Gets me like opportunities, opportunities that like I'm dreaming of,
- 6:15Speaker 2: you know what I mean?
- 6:20Speaker 1: No, I think it's, I think it's gonna happen in
- 6:21Speaker 1: LA and you learn a lot, I'm sure. What was
- 6:23Speaker 1: the one thing you learned in your experience?
- 6:26Speaker 1: Training in LA that has opened your eyes to, I
- 6:29Speaker 1: don't know, more opportunities or what have
- 6:31Speaker 1: you learned?
- 6:31Speaker 2: So I think like the second time I went to
- 6:33Speaker 2: LA for two months, it really opened my eyes and
- 6:36Speaker 2: of how like unapologetic you should be and how you
- 6:40Speaker 2: should really like
- 6:42Speaker 2: Not shy away when the opportunity is right in front
- 6:44Speaker 2: of your face.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 1: yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 2: don't be Asian because like we are like, you know, like,
- 6:50Speaker 1: sorry,
- 6:51Speaker 2: like second guessing,
- 6:52Speaker 1: yeah, yeah, exactly,
- 6:53Speaker 2: which is also really nice, you know, but I think
- 6:56Speaker 2: when you really want it, you have to show that
- 6:57Speaker 2: you want it. I also like the biggest thing that
- 7:00Speaker 2: I've learned is like, close, close mouth, don't get fat
- 7:04Speaker 2: because I, I'm like,
- 7:06Speaker 2: I mean, if you guys didn't know, I'm like a
- 7:07Speaker 2: really shy person, so I, I like, I don't know,
- 7:10Speaker 2: I get embarrassed to ask for things that I really want,
- 7:12Speaker 2: but I feel being in like this industry, the dance
- 7:15Speaker 2: or like social media or like content creating, you really
- 7:17Speaker 2: have to kind of ask when you want it. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 2: because if not, they also wouldn't really know the other side.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I totally,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I totally understand and get that. It's something I could
- 7:26Speaker 1: do better with asking for what I want to and
- 7:29Speaker 1: of course we're still with
- 7:30Speaker 1: Dance extraordinaire, Dinesh. Hello, good morning. You, in case you
- 7:35Speaker 1: just joined us on air, um, he was pulled up
- 7:37Speaker 1: on stage to dance with Zahra Larson. We're officially still
- 7:40Speaker 1: live on TikTok right now. If you want to catch
- 7:42Speaker 1: a glimpse of his beautiful self, he got so ready
- 7:44Speaker 1: for our show this morning. I, I feel terribly underdressed
- 7:48Speaker 1: because we're both in 987 shirts. Hang on, if you
- 7:51Speaker 1: feel underdressed, I'm practically butt naked here in the studio, OK?
- 7:54Speaker 1: Let's, let's not go there. But, uh, earlier we focused
- 7:57Speaker 1: on that viral moment and the dance moment with Zara Larsson,
- 8:00Speaker 1: and I feel right now it's time to have Dinesh
- 8:03Speaker 1: shine on 987. Who is Dinesh? To, to someone who's
- 8:06Speaker 1: not familiar with you, tell us about your backstory. How
- 8:09Speaker 1: did your love for dance come about? Did you study it?
- 8:12Speaker 1: Tell us
- 8:12Speaker 1: more,
- 8:13Speaker 2: yeah. OK. Well, hello world. It's Dinesh and I'm 23
- 8:18Speaker 2: this year.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Um, I started dancing when I was like primary 3
- 8:23Speaker 2: or 4, through like an enrichment class outside of school.
- 8:27Speaker 2: So I started with like hip hop, like street styles,
- 8:30Speaker 2: and then I started doing Latin ballroom. So yeah, and
- 8:33Speaker 2: then I went to School of the Arts where I
- 8:35Speaker 2: did like ballet and contempt training. That's where I got
- 8:39Speaker 2: more exposed to dance, like really, really dance training, and
- 8:42Speaker 2: then I did my diploma in La Salle.
- 8:44Speaker 2: So I graduated with a diploma in dance and ever
- 8:47Speaker 2: since then, I've been obviously dancing and trying to find
- 8:51Speaker 2: my way in the industry. Um, I started dancing honestly
- 8:55Speaker 2: because honestly, my whole family dances, like not really professionally,
- 8:58Speaker 2: my sister did it professionally as a kid, but my
- 9:00Speaker 2: mom and dad like they met through dance also in
- 9:02Speaker 2: the streets.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I tell people that and I'm like, it seems
- 9:06Speaker 2: like I'm joking, but it's really not like everyone dances
- 9:08Speaker 2: in my family. So I always had that in my genes,
- 9:10Speaker 2: I feel, yeah, just that I needed to put myself
- 9:13Speaker 2: in the classes. So besides dance, I also um try
- 9:17Speaker 2: to do content, um.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Um, I also try to like freelance model because I
- 9:21Speaker 2: love being in front of the camera, I can't get enough. Yes,
- 9:25Speaker 2: and yeah, I love fashion also. I love makeup. So
- 9:29Speaker 2: I try to do content related to those also, and
- 9:31Speaker 2: also like, I guess just sharing my life because like,
- 9:34Speaker 2: I don't know, it's like when cool things like this happen,
- 9:36Speaker 2: I also want to share it with people who, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 2: manifest things with me and like are happy for me
- 9:40Speaker 2: and all the comments. I'm like, I need to share
- 9:42Speaker 2: this with y'all.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I think there's always gonna be people out there who
- 9:50Speaker 1: are or who may not even be sharing it because
- 9:54Speaker 1: they're happy for you might be like.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Like, why is this person, it happens all the time,
- 9:58Speaker 1: but you somehow, you know, you want to maintain that
- 10:00Speaker 1: good headspace, right? Um, one thing I wanted to ask
- 10:03Speaker 1: you is because, you know, when I see and I
- 10:05Speaker 1: watch your dance videos, you are so strong, like in
- 10:09Speaker 1: terms of the movements and everything, and you must have
- 10:12Speaker 1: another workout routine. Do you?
- 10:14Speaker 2: I really don't.
- 10:16Speaker 1: You don't I don't.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I'm like dying to ask you this because you, you're
- 10:19Speaker 1: so like sculpted. I think like is it just the genes?
- 10:23Speaker 1: What's happening?
- 10:24Speaker 2: I think it's the jeans also, but also like I
- 10:26Speaker 2: think it was just my dance training from school that
- 10:28Speaker 2: still retains in the body and it's a workout. Yeah, that,
- 10:32Speaker 2: that
- 10:32Speaker 1: is definitely a workout and it's like
- 10:35Speaker 2: like 9 a.m. in the morning till 6 p.m., 5 p.m.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Dancing, I
- 10:42Speaker 1: mean, look, if I'm at Marquis from like what, 12
- 10:44Speaker 1: to 5, I'm I worked out. Honestly
- 10:47Speaker 1: though,
- 10:47Speaker 2: honestly, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and you're like in heels too.
- 10:51Speaker 1: The same amount of calories burn at Marquee for 5
- 10:54Speaker 1: hours is the same as him as a professional. I'm sorry,
- 10:56Speaker 1: hold on. Me and you burn very different calories at Marquee, OK.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I think Jo's just his arm, his arm is tired
- 11:03Speaker 1: from holding his drink, that's it.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I make up for it with the run, OK? Yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Where can we catch you on stage next? Anything coming
- 11:12Speaker 1: up for you? Anything you can say or can't say
- 11:14Speaker 1: yet?
- 11:14Speaker 2: Well, I mean,
- 11:17Speaker 2: I would, I would say hopefully the world stages, but
- 11:20Speaker 2: right now I'm actually doing, I'm dancing at Halloween Horn.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 2: so I'm literally like a Poinciana, literally like you go
- 11:29Speaker 2: from life to Poinciana. Is it
- 11:31Speaker 1: the opening?
- 11:33Speaker 1: No, no, no,
- 11:33Speaker 2: it's the one in New York,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and we do like
- 11:35Speaker 2: 34 shows a night.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So
- 11:37Speaker 1: that's what I'm the graveyard is it yeah yeah yeah
- 11:40Speaker 1: yeah yeah yeah.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it's literally to my, my back.
- 11:46Speaker 1: You
- 11:46Speaker 1: are, you are so fabulous. I cannot imagine you as
- 11:48Speaker 1: the one thing I fear the most as well, so
- 11:50Speaker 1: maybe not. Yeah, you fear that the most. Do you know? OK,
- 11:53Speaker 1: you know, he doesn't even dare say the name. He
- 11:55Speaker 1: calls it, I was like there are a few days
- 11:57Speaker 1: you can't say it, right? I mean, Thursdays, you can't
- 12:00Speaker 1: say name on Thursday. Apparently there's some magic. No, but, uh,
- 12:04Speaker 1: just a very quick Halloween horror story. A long time
- 12:06Speaker 1: ago they had this thing called.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Camp Marty, I was with Sonia, right, and it hit
- 12:10Speaker 1: too close to home because I had some National Service
- 12:13Speaker 1: stories as well. And there was ones where, and back
- 12:15Speaker 1: then the Martins were here on 987, they left the room.
- 12:18Speaker 1: So I left. I was alone, but no, you threw
- 12:20Speaker 1: me in front. I went in first, and of all
- 12:22Speaker 1: times to be alone, there was a bathroom door that
- 12:24Speaker 1: had to open. What was inside the pee, the pee lady,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and it was right in front of me. You can
- 12:29Speaker 1: say it's Monday. You can I don't want Monday morning.
- 12:32Speaker 1: It's Monday. It's OK. She's sleeping. She's sleeping. She's sleeping. Anyway, Dean,
- 12:37Speaker 1: thank you so much for being with us today. It
- 12:39Speaker 1: was so much fun to have you here. Anything you
- 12:42Speaker 1: want to say to your newfound fans and friends, and
- 12:44Speaker 1: we've got over 2000 viewers on TikTok right now if
- 12:46Speaker 1: you want to just like give them a shout out. Yeah.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Thank you guys so much. It really means a lot.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Like I'm not just saying this just to say this.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I'm really grateful and I hope you guys follow me
- 12:55Speaker 2: on my journey to superstardom and hopefully dance on the
- 12:59Speaker 2: stage with Ariana Grande and Beyonce.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Beyonce and Ariana
- 13:02Speaker 1: Grande and she represents. OK. To catch the full clip
- 13:07Speaker 1: of him dancing on stage with Czar Larson, which was
- 13:10Speaker 1: just a week ago. I can't believe time is just
- 13:11Speaker 1: flying by. Um, please follow him up on all socials.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Please tell our listeners where to find
- 13:16Speaker 2: you. Oh my God, you guys can follow me on
- 13:17Speaker 2: Instagram at.
- 13:19Speaker 2: D I N E A I S H and on
- 13:22Speaker 2: TikTok at your only dog.
- 13:24Speaker 1: That's what you are. Very soon you'll see like an
- 13:26Speaker 1: open class conducted by Dinesh. Yeah, that's true and and
- 13:30Speaker 1: Ariana together. Oh my God. Alright guys, thank you so
- 13:33Speaker 1: much for tuning in on TikTok Live and on air
- 13:35Speaker 1: as well.
