- 0:22along with all her chickens. Hey
- 0:27everybody, good morning from the Chicken Coop. So
- 0:31I'd like to talk to you about contrast and how
- 0:34contrast affects us as human beings. You
- 0:39know, having crappy things happen, having things that
- 0:44are not what we want show up in our life, not even
- 0:48just crappy, but just things that we don't
- 0:50necessarily want show up in our life, is actually a
- 0:53powerful tool that's given to us so that we can
- 0:56recognize contrast. And you know, I often will
- 1:02hear people talk to me about how the most painful
- 1:06experiences have shaped them the most and in the best
- 1:10ways. And I myself can say that is
- 1:13the truth. You know, losing my father, he
- 1:17was so young, he was 57 when he passed away, was
- 1:20the most difficult experience I have ever gone
- 1:23through in my life. And words can't explain when
- 1:29you lose a parent that's also your best friend. And
- 1:35I can say without question that it was the hardest
- 1:39thing that I've ever gone through. And
- 1:42at the same time, it was one of the most profound
- 1:45experiences that shaped my life in positive ways. And
- 1:50the contrast of life with him and without him and
- 1:55the contrast of recognizing how valuable life is has
- 2:02definitely without a question shaped my entire
- 2:06life because it changed the way I functioned, it
- 2:09changed what I was willing to do, it changed how I
- 2:12showed up, the roles I took, the jobs I took, it
- 2:15took everything because I had a different point of
- 2:18reference to go from. And when you use contrast to
- 2:23your benefit and you start to say, okay, this is here
- 2:26to help me instead of hurting me, it's kind of
- 2:30like the difference between night and day. You
- 2:32know, if we just had night all the time, we'd be
- 2:34miserable. How many of us even realize
- 2:36that when we think about, oh, yeah, I could never
- 2:38live in Alaska or I could never live in countries
- 2:41where it's dark for half the year? Like
- 2:43that would make me crazy. Well,
- 2:45of course it would because the contrast of, you know,
- 2:50thinking of it all the time shifts you into a
- 2:53deep awareness. Yet we go through this every
- 2:56day, night, day, night, day, and because we're used
- 2:59to it and the contrast is not grand for us, we don't
- 3:03even notice it. We just go through our lives,
- 3:06not even noticing it. But think about what happens
- 3:09when it rains every day for, you know, two weeks
- 3:12straight. We just went through one of
- 3:13those phases. When it rained every day for
- 3:15two weeks straight, you kind of become like, oh my
- 3:18gosh, where's the sun? We're
- 3:20on a normal day. You know, we may appreciate the
- 3:24sun, but we don't even notice it. We
- 3:26just go about our day. Oh, it's a nice day, blah,
- 3:28blah, whatever. But it's a quick, it's not
- 3:30even, you know, thought of or appreciated until it's
- 3:34gone. You know, you don't appreciate
- 3:36what you have until it's gone, as the old saying.
- 3:38Well, isn't that the truth? But
- 3:40that's really the root of that comes from
- 3:42understanding contrast and how it shows up in your
- 3:45life. Or you look at yourself and
- 3:47you say, my relationship sucks. And
- 3:50I don't like how this person treats me. Or
- 3:54my boss is this way. And then you meet somebody that
- 3:58actually has a problem that's really out of
- 4:02control. And you say, wow, I guess my
- 4:04situation is not so bad at all. But
- 4:06we become accustomed to sitting in this will of,
- 4:11you know, complaining about it. And
- 4:13we don't use contrast to our benefit. We
- 4:16don't say, okay, if this is going to be painful,
- 4:18then I'm going to do everything I can to work
- 4:20through and around this. I'm
- 4:22going to get to the other side of this. This
- 4:24is here to teach me. So when you think of the
- 4:26situations as if they're teaching you something,
- 4:28giving you information, which they are, helping you
- 4:31shape and move, then all of a sudden you become a
- 4:35much better person. You become much more beneficial
- 4:41to yourself. You don't react. You're
- 4:43not in a high reactive mode. All
- 4:45you're doing at that point is taking in the
- 4:50information and shifting and not being reactive. So
- 4:53I think that when you start to look for contrast
- 4:57in your day, start with the most simple things.
- 5:01Start to look for the things
- 5:02that say, you know, where is this showing up to
- 5:05teach me something? Where can I look outside of
- 5:08myself and say, okay, this is something that I
- 5:12recognize. I hear other people talk
- 5:14about this. And for sure, I know this is
- 5:17a place where I can look at my own life and be
- 5:19grateful. I know I can look at my own
- 5:21life and say, okay, I can learn from this other
- 5:24person's experience and I can say, wow, that's
- 5:27happened for them. I definitely don't want that
- 5:29to happen for me. So I'm going to benefit from
- 5:31their experience, their contrast. I'm
- 5:34going to look and I'm going to say, okay, I know
- 5:37this isn't something I want to entertain and use it to
- 5:41your benefit. Don't be the person that has to
- 5:43run into every wall in order to learn something
- 5:45and understand contrast is here to teach us so you
- 5:49can learn from yourself in your own situations with
- 5:51contrast. You can learn from others, but
- 5:53just look and learn. And I hope you guys have a
- 5:56blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
