- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Struckland. A new report from the Canadian Pediatric
- 0:04Speaker 1: Surveillance Program is highlighting the dangerous and deadly risk e
- 0:08Speaker 1: bikes and e scooters pose to Canadian children. Linda Swain reports.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Ten children died from accidents involving the devices in twenty
- 0:16Speaker 2: twenty five. Twelve were admitted to intensive care, while twenty
- 0:20Speaker 2: six required at least two days in hospital. Forty seven
- 0:23Speaker 2: percent of injuries involved a head, while other common injuries
- 0:27Speaker 2: included the limbs, spine, and torso. About a third of
- 0:30Speaker 2: cases required surgery. Kids between the ages of ten and
- 0:33Speaker 2: fifteen accounted for nearly forty two percent of those injured.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Eighteen percent were between the ages of five and nine. Overall,
- 0:41Speaker 2: sixty percent of injuries involved boys. In some of the
- 0:44Speaker 2: more serious cases, the incident involved an unsupervised rider who
- 0:48Speaker 2: was on a roadway, sidewalker path and was not wearing
- 0:51Speaker 2: a helmet. The report notes that incidents involving e bikes

- 1:04Speaker 1: The opposition says it's concerning that news on a possible
- 1:07Speaker 1: agreement reached on a new MoU on Churchill Falls expansion
- 1:11Speaker 1: has once again come from the Quebec media rather than government.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Lapress broke the news last night, suggesting that a deal
- 1:19Speaker 1: has been reached. According to the publication, Newfoundland and Labrador
- 1:23Speaker 1: will gain a larger share of the energy produced over
- 1:26Speaker 1: the life of the fifty year agreement, but that the
- 1:28Speaker 1: remainder of the original MoU remains essentially the same. Premier
- 1:33Speaker 1: Tony Wakem has long said that he would not bow
- 1:35Speaker 1: to quote artificial deadlines, but it was well understood in
- 1:39Speaker 1: Quebec that the deal had to be reached before a
- 1:41Speaker 1: fall provincial election is called. Opposition leader John Hogan says
- 1:45Speaker 1: he's concerned that once again Quebec is controlling the narrative
- 1:49Speaker 1: on what he says is the most important deal Newfoundland
- 1:53Speaker 1: and Labrador will ever have.
- 1:55Speaker 3: You know, he certainly campaigned on being open and transparent.
- 1:57Speaker 3: As we said, it's the most important deal and Labrador
- 2:00Speaker 3: will ever have in its history. It's important to get
- 2:02Speaker 3: it rice and it's important that there's all communication with
- 2:05Speaker 3: the people of the province about the status of the deal.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Set on numerous occasions that we and I won't oppose
- 2:10Speaker 3: for the sake of opposing, and we certainly won't oppose
- 2:12Speaker 3: a good deal between Anahydro and hy trickle back. As
- 2:15Speaker 3: I said, it's the most important deal that this province
- 2:18Speaker 3: is faced. We need to get beyond the nineteen sixty
- 2:21Speaker 3: nine contract. We need to move forward, and we hope
- 2:23Speaker 3: there's a deal, and we hope there's a good deal
- 2:25Speaker 3: in place. We look forward to seeing the final details
- 2:27Speaker 3: on it next week and we'll see what the Premier
- 2:29Speaker 3: has to say if in fact there is a deal.
- 2:31Speaker 1: It's Miracle treat Day at Dairy Queen locations across Newfoundland
- 2:35Speaker 1: and Labrador today. Only one hundred percent of proceeds from
- 2:38Speaker 1: the purchase of any DQ blizzard will go towards the
- 2:41Speaker 1: Janeway Children's Hospital Foundation. Jennessa Ward manager of Donor Engagement,
- 2:46Speaker 1: says the funds help to provide care to children throughout
- 2:49Speaker 1: the province.
- 2:50Speaker 4: See it's a day where the community comes together. I'm
- 2:52Speaker 4: so grateful to be able to give back to the
- 2:55Speaker 4: community and support the Janeway Foundation and to kind of
- 2:57Speaker 4: rally the Dairy Queen teams and our whole community to
- 3:00Speaker 4: support Jawite kids.
- 3:01Speaker 1: That's your news. I'm Sarah Strickland,
