- 0:08I cling onto most. You cling on to most. You
- 0:11can't feel any other feeling but gratitude.
- 0:14Speaker 2: When experience experience.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And gratitude, And I'm so thankful for that because in
- 0:18my times of darkness, I just feel grateful that I

- 1:20and grateful. So let me go into this and listen
- 1:23very carefully. This is everyone listening. Today's guest is an actress,
- 1:27a television host, comedian, and YouTuber. She began her career
- 1:30on Vine in twenty thirteen before starting a YouTube channel.

- 1:37horror comedy film Boo a Medea Halloween, and the Explorer
- 1:42in the YouTube premium series Escape the Night. She starred
- 1:45as Violet Adams in Hulu drama television series Freakish, and
- 1:49she both produces and stars in the YouTube premium comedy
- 1:53series Liza on Demand and series two is coming out,
- 1:57so we're gonna be talking a lot about that. And
- 1:59she's the host of the Nickelodeon game show Double Dare.
- 2:03She's received four Streamy Awards. Right Guys Not just won
- 2:06four Streaming Awards, fourteen Choice Awards, and a Kid's Choice Award.
- 2:10She's a member of the twenty nineteen Forbes thirty under thirty,
- 2:14and she's got a lot of years to go before
- 2:16that even gets close. She's got a ton of time.
- 2:19And she was on Times twenty nineteen list of the
- 2:22twenty five most influential people on the Internet, with sixty
- 2:27million followers across over four platforms. Her name is the
- 2:32one and only Liza Koshi. You are such a legend.
- 2:36You were such a legend. Thank you. Couldn't they have
- 2:39put you on like the Forbes twenty five under twenty
- 2:41five or like twenty three under twenty three. I know
- 2:44what do I doing.
- 2:45Speaker 3: I'm glad I slid you my resume so you could
- 2:46read all of that.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I had to read it. I had to read it,
- 2:49and I thought about this, and I'll be honest with you,
- 2:51when we're researching guests and we're getting the bio together
- 2:54and I'm picking out what to say, and I read
- 2:55that and I literally said to Julian, I said to
- 2:57him when we were looking at it, I was just like,
- 2:59I'm going to say all of it because she deserves it.
- 3:01I'm going to say all of it, and there's so
- 3:02much more. But I was like, I wanted you to
- 3:05and I want everyone listening, and I want you to
- 3:07recom it's just how amazing you are and what you've accomplished,
- 3:09how incredible it is, and you do it with so
- 3:12much grace, like you don't do it with any ego.
- 3:15I've never sensed arrogance from you. I've never sensed ego.
- 3:17It's an actress.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I'm full of it. I'm just pretending to be humble
- 3:21over here.
- 3:21Speaker 2: So you're a great actress, which I got. The show
- 3:24then true to prove it exactly, I'm trying, and I'm
- 3:28so excited for season two. I've been watching the first
- 3:30it's been amazing. Thank you. So it's been so exciting.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Season two got a little bit of an upgrade, so
- 3:35we got a little bit more budget on that one.
- 3:37So we got more budget but surprisingly less wardrobe. So
- 3:40I will say in the first episode, I am naked,
- 3:43So speaking of what I watch, you to watch so
- 3:46check it out.
- 3:47Speaker 2: But it is, it is, it's very vulnerable.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I will say, I'm very exposed, literally and figuratively and spiritually.
- 3:54So you get to see more of a journey and
- 3:55more of like my growth as like a human being
- 3:57but also as a character, and it kind of like
- 4:00parallels my real life of me stepping into my power,
- 4:02and so does my character.
- 4:03Speaker 2: So I'm excited for them. That's amazing. I love that,
- 4:06and I love how much of when I've been watching it,
- 4:08I love how much of you is infused into the character. Yes,
- 4:12like it does help it, Yeah no, but it's so
- 4:15it's still done so uniquely. Like so I never feel
- 4:17like I'm watching a video of yours. It definitely feels
- 4:20like a show, which I love that distinction that you've
- 4:22been able to make. It's very different. But at the
- 4:24same time, I can see you genuinely coming out and
- 4:27I think that's your superpower, like you know, you as
- 4:29who you are and your your expressions, your emoji like face,
- 4:34like you know, that's that's like the stuff. And I'm like,
- 4:36I'm so happy to see that come out and the
- 4:38comedies all you like you're writing as well.
- 4:40Speaker 1: That's me so yeah, I mean the writer's room, I'm
- 4:41writing and you know, developing the story with a bunch
- 4:44of other amazing magicians and cooks in the kitchen. So
- 4:48I'm just blessed to have this like amazing family that's
- 4:50willing to uplift this story that hasn't really been told
- 4:52so or at least still from my perspective.
- 4:54Speaker 2: So I'm excited. Yeah, thank you.
- 4:56Speaker 1: We were just talking about starting off with compliments and
- 4:58I have these like I'm like, you know, I was
- 5:00nervous because my first podcast, I'm trying to do my
- 5:02most soothing voice possible. Sounds like an off brand Beyonce
- 5:06right now, Hey y'all, y'all doing, But I look like
- 5:09crazy Cardi B right now, like if Cardi B was
- 5:11raised at Disneyland or something. If you're watching the visual,
- 5:15I'm wearing many colors, every color in the Pantone book,
- 5:17I swear.
- 5:18Speaker 2: So we have Elijah Curcy, Cardi B, and Beyonce one
- 5:21three for one. Baby's amazing. No, and this is your
- 5:24first podcast, this is my first point, which which I
- 5:27felt so humbled and honored by. I was like, wow, like,
- 5:29thank you, so grateful.
- 5:30Speaker 1: It is an honor to be on yours. I can't
- 5:32tell you like how many times I've been in my
- 5:34times of weakness and I felt empowered and strengthened through
- 5:38your words and through your.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Shares on Instagram.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I always say, like, you know, feed your feed with
- 5:43things that genuinely feed you.
- 5:44Speaker 3: And genuinely is a word that's thrown around a lot,
- 5:46but you are.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Genuinely one of the most amazing, like enlightening souls that
- 5:50I've ever come across.
- 5:52Speaker 3: And this is like our first time like hanging out too.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm watching this like full, full conversation that we've never
- 5:58had before, just like on camera with each other.
- 6:01Speaker 2: So I'm excited.
- 6:01Speaker 3: But yeah, I appreciate everything that you've done.
- 6:05Speaker 1: You you helped me through a really tough time, and
- 6:07I'm grateful to be here today to thank you in person.
- 6:10Speaker 2: And I'm here for you. I'm totally here for you anytime,
- 6:12and you know, anytime. And I'm I was so touched
- 6:16by the mention in the Wall Street Journal and so
- 6:18many other places. It's not even that like I just
- 6:21I wanted to say that, like I think this is
- 6:24who you are. And this is where I want to
- 6:25start with how this conversation has already gone, because it's
- 6:27turned into a compliment that already I'm going to stop this.
- 6:30I actually have some questions I wanted to ask, which
- 6:32I will get to, but but I want to point
- 6:35this out because I think it's important to testament to
- 6:37who you are. Like you said, this is the first
- 6:40time we're like sitting down face to face having our conversation.
- 6:44You could have said anyone, but you still said me,
- 6:46and you've you've mentioned so many wonderful things about me,
- 6:48and I'm just like, this is the most beautiful thing
- 6:50about something, Like you're saying it when we haven't even
- 6:52had this moment to sit down together. And so anyway,
- 6:55the feelings meture. We're going to stop complimenting each other.
- 6:57You will not hear a compliment for the rest of
- 6:59this podcast that both of our egos are boosted. Yeah,
- 7:01I'm good. So yeah, exactly like that. Now that we've
- 7:04got that out of the way, like we're going to
- 7:06you're going to ask serious interview questions. I want to
- 7:08start off. I want to start off with something, and
- 7:09I want to dive into the making of the show
- 7:11and everything, but I want to start off with something
- 7:12that I think is important to what you've touched on.
- 7:15It's important to how you've spoken about it. And you
- 7:17said this, and it's really powerful. When you return from
- 7:19your social media break, you said that it was the
- 7:22first time that you felt successful. Yeah, And when I
- 7:25heard that, I was just like, wow, Like what happened
- 7:27in that time? Yeah, Like we've just read your resume.
- 7:30You know, everyone knows your accomplishments. But you said that
- 7:33that was the first time you felt successful. What happened
- 7:35in that time? Well, people were like where Liza was like,
- 7:38now I feel successful?
- 7:39Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, Well everybody has their own definition of success, right,
- 7:42And my definition of success, although it may sound selfish,
- 7:45it's not the feeling of joy and happiness that resides
- 7:49in that quiet confidence that resides in myself. And I
- 7:51was always a very big, kind of obnoxious, like real
- 7:55loud personality like comes out in different forms and has
- 7:59explored myself creative land different forms, whether it be through
- 8:01hosting or acting or whatever it may be, or whatever
- 8:04inspires me in that time.
- 8:05Speaker 3: But I was finding myself.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I created this box or this rectangle if you will,
- 8:13of you know, my YouTube videos and all these characters
- 8:15and personas that I put on and that I created
- 8:18for myself. And I'll get more into that later, because
- 8:21there's reasons why I created all those personas, and I
- 8:23developed this level of awareness that I'm like, oh, that's
- 8:26why I made that, because I needed that, and I'll
- 8:28get into that. But I literally created this this rectangle
- 8:33and people knew me. They created a definition around me
- 8:37as to what I do or what I create, and
- 8:40I had to break out of that.
- 8:41Speaker 3: So you think of like a you.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Know, a kid on Disney Channel, right, and that network
- 8:45created you know, what that character is and that show
- 8:48and what the messages are trying to convey and that show.
- 8:51And then when that person as a human being naturally
- 8:54grows and evolves, they become you know, they're themselves or
- 8:57whatever version they may become.
- 8:59Speaker 3: And that's that's like a role you break out of.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Now, I created my own and so to break out
- 9:05of that and become this host or become this actress
- 9:07was me, you know, experimenting creatively outside of what people
- 9:11knew me to be. And so I made this definition.
- 9:15I allowed them to define me, and then I was
- 9:17redefining myself in that time that I took away and
- 9:20I allowed myself to Breathe allowed myself to.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Be whatever I may be.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Within that day or ten minutes were ever changing and
- 9:28ever evolving, and there was a point where I was,
- 9:30you know, kind of stunting myself and holding myself back
- 9:33from becoming. And now I've become myself or selves. So
- 9:38now my whole thing is like not only be yourself
- 9:40because right, we got we know that cliche. We know that, like, yes,
- 9:43be yourself, whoever that may be, but now it's plural,
- 9:46be yourselves whatever you may identify as and whatever you
- 9:50are drawn to and want to become. So in that
- 9:54time it was a lot of growth and a lot
- 9:56of like spiritual awakening. My forehead always hearts because my
- 9:59third up seeing things now. Yeah, but it's been fun,
- 10:03and I'm so grateful to my audience for allowing me
- 10:06to have that break and allowing me to be a
- 10:09human instead of you know, the character, the persona that
- 10:12I created online.
- 10:13Speaker 2: I love that be yourselves, be yourselves. I love that.
- 10:16So that's almost like giving your permission to be more
- 10:19than one thing.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Be more than one thing.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Identify as many you are. You know, I in the industry,
- 10:24I'm this hoster, I'm this actress, or I'm this personality,
- 10:28whatever that may be in your in your real life.
- 10:30It's who you are at work, who you are at church,
- 10:32who you are at you know, whatever wherever you may go.
- 10:35You are these different versions of yourself. And allowing yourself
- 10:37to be and accept yourself yourselves.
- 10:41Speaker 2: I love that. That's such great advice. I think you're
- 10:44so right that we get so caught up in our
- 10:47definition of what we think we should be, and then
- 10:50we get caught up in the definition of what everyone
- 10:51thinks we should be. I think it's I think it's
- 10:54the Japanese say, we have three faces. So the first
- 10:57face is the face that we show to the world,
- 10:59the second the face is the face that we show
- 11:01to people that are closer to us, and the third
- 11:03face is the face we show to no one else. Right,
- 11:06those are three faces, and I'm sure there's multiple other
- 11:08layers of that, but it's interesting what you're saying is
- 11:11actually like embrace all of them.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Yeah, embrace all of them. And that face that you
- 11:15don't show to the world is the hardest to show.
- 11:17But I think it's like it's what the industry needs,
- 11:19and it's what you do essentially, is like is showing
- 11:22the world that it's okay to be who you are
- 11:24behind the curtain, but in front of it as well.
- 11:27Like that's that's the most exciting, most vulnerable, most relatable
- 11:30part that you can be is like accepting of your
- 11:33feelings and your emotions.
- 11:34Speaker 3: That's the hardest part, but is what we need. So
- 11:36thankful for it.
- 11:37Speaker 2: That's so beautiful, and compliments are now over, so you
- 11:40get stop stuff? Can you? Can you stop?
- 11:43Speaker 1: Okay, calm down right, I get it. I have a
- 11:45whole podcast, very successful. Actually keep listening.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I love it, and I love what you're saying earlier
- 11:52like this, that really got me thinking. And I didn't
- 11:54know that you were saying that. You started to realize
- 11:57that you build characters to express and feelings because of
- 12:01what you were going through. Yeah, take us through that,
- 12:03because I think that's fascinating.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Oh, thank you.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I mean, I didn't know I was crazy, and then
- 12:09I found out as I had this level of awareness.
- 12:11You hit your twenties, man, that hit me like a brick.
- 12:14I ran straight into a wall when I hit my twenties,
- 12:17and I'm grateful for that wall because it allowed me
- 12:18to stop and like pull back and listen to what
- 12:22I was doing and too myself into the world.
- 12:24Speaker 3: So I created these crazy characters. One because I'm a.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Real good looking man.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I look good in a bowl cut, and that is
- 12:30a hard thing to achieve. His name was Jet, or
- 12:33his name is still Jet.
- 12:34Speaker 3: He's still with us. I sounded like he died.
- 12:37Speaker 2: He's fine, he's doing well he's thriving, but yeah.
- 12:40Speaker 1: No, he was this character that I created, a little
- 12:44bowl cut, a little mustache, always wearing black.
- 12:47Speaker 3: He looks real dapper.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He thinks he's fantastic at everything, but he kind of sucks.
- 12:51But he has this like unspoken also very loud spoken
- 12:55confidence of like I can't do anything, and I embody,
- 12:59you know my truth always, which is that I'm great,
- 13:03and I believe in that, even if you know physically
- 13:06I can't prove that. So it's really bad at sports.
- 13:08You can't do a single thing. He's awful. He's the
- 13:10world's greatest Olympian in his book, but in everybody else's
- 13:13he's just crazy.
- 13:16Speaker 3: But he was basically what I needed.
- 13:19Speaker 1: So I needed that that confidence that just like entire
- 13:23like almost delusional belief in oneself. And that's I forget
- 13:27who said it. It's probably somebody on this very inspiring wall,
- 13:30but someone said, you have to be a bit delusional.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Oh it was it was Ali Ali.
- 13:35Speaker 1: He said, you have to be a bit delusional in
- 13:36order to believe in yourself that nothing has ever been
- 13:39done before, that you are able to provide the world.
- 13:43And so I created this jet to be this branch
- 13:47of confidence that I needed, and that was a form
- 13:49of myself that sometimes you step into that power of
- 13:52confidence and you're not sure what the hell you're doing,
- 13:55but you look, you're confident doing it, and you're just
- 13:58leaning into fear instead of, you know, letting it control you.
- 14:00But then this other version was Helga, who's a very
- 14:04like maternal figure. She is she's from somewhere. She sounds
- 14:08beauty like lios. I don't know what she's from. I say,
- 14:10she's not from anywhere, so I don't defend anyone hill.
- 14:15Speaker 2: There you go.
- 14:15Speaker 1: She's from the world, she's cultured, she just picked up
- 14:18an accident. She's actually just you know, from Minnesota.
- 14:22Speaker 3: But she was this like maternal figure.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I moved out at nineteen and I didn't have my
- 14:26mom in my life in la and I had her
- 14:29blessing to move out here, but I didn't have the
- 14:31guidance that you know, I wanted or craved. So I
- 14:33created her and she was, you know, the very outspoken
- 14:37confidence too, of like knowing and being sure in her
- 14:41word and what she believes.
- 14:42Speaker 3: So that's who I created for that.
- 14:44Speaker 1: And then this little Liza is this young version of
- 14:48myself that has. You know, she's kind of unaware, she's innocent.
- 14:52She ignorance is bliss kind of thing. And we all
- 14:55have this inner child in which we embraced at times,
- 14:59but sometimes sometimes we also shove down.
- 15:00Speaker 3: We don't want to.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Be too crazy, too big, or we're too many colors
- 15:03at the same time. And that's what Little Liza was
- 15:07for me. She allowed me to embrace, you know, the
- 15:11younger characteristics of myself.
- 15:13Speaker 3: And it was me not wanting.
- 15:14Speaker 1: To step into adulthood either. I'll tell you that my
- 15:17midlife crisis. She was holding me back from me, you
- 15:19know what I'm saying. So I created her in order
- 15:21to allow myself to play. And we should all just
- 15:24be allowed to play and have fun and not you know,
- 15:27conform to whatever society may be saying they want to see.
- 15:30But then, yeah, those are my characters and they're all
- 15:33different branches of me, and so I created all of
- 15:35them and now I'm kind of bringing them all together
- 15:38as one, which.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Is just me. And that's the Liza we see on
- 15:41Liza on Delane, and that's.
- 15:42Speaker 3: The Liza you see on Lies on Demand.
- 15:43Speaker 1: It's her like, you know, being a little confused about
- 15:45what to do with her career, but thank you.
- 15:47Speaker 3: For tying it back into the show. God dang, you
- 15:49were Goodness.
- 15:52Speaker 1: You see that version of me that like is embodying
- 15:57everything and embracing everything about herself.
- 15:59Speaker 2: So I love that. I'm so glad that you shared
- 16:02that because I think and I'm guessing when you actually
- 16:05created them, you didn't know that. No, it's in hindsight
- 16:08now that you've reflected and you've looked at those roles
- 16:10and you've been like, oh, that's why I think that.
- 16:11And I love that because what you're saying is so true.
- 16:14There's two things I want to point out to the audience,
- 16:15which you've just done here. Is when you look at
- 16:17what Arlie said, is like Ali said that, you know,
- 16:19he said he was the greatest before he was. Yeah,
- 16:22And so that's exactly the point of like he was
- 16:24saying that to convince himself, not really to convince anyone else,
- 16:27but then going through that process he did become. And
- 16:30in the same way, Steve Jobs had something called reality
- 16:33distortion field. So that's where you're creating a almost not
- 16:38slightly delusional, but a aspirational version of who you want
- 16:43to be, and you're creating it so that you can
- 16:45then become that. And then Martin Luther King used to
- 16:47put on glasses. Yes, so Todd Herman, who I interviewed
- 16:50and wrote the book The Alter Ego Effect, he talked
- 16:53about how Martin Luther King used to wear glasses because
- 16:56they made him feel more confident.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Me and Martin Luther King have so much in common.
- 17:00I mean, like I actually have.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I didn't wear them today because I just want to
- 17:03like look you directly in the eye. But I have
- 17:04a pair of fake glasses that I wear all the time.
- 17:07That's yeah, because it makes me feel like so much
- 17:09more like.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Regal and do you write them to meetings and stuff.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I wear them to meetings because I feel like they
- 17:14take me more seriously. You see like a little five
- 17:16footnome waddle into the office. You're like, well, I'm gonna
- 17:18listen to this. This is going to tell me an idea,
- 17:20a good idea. And I put my glasses on. I
- 17:22become this like, hey, yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 2: I got some things to say.
- 17:24Speaker 3: I've seen the world.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Let me tell you about it. Like your mind with
- 17:27the gig the King. Yeah, I have dreams too. I
- 17:32love it. No, but and this and that's something I
- 17:34wanted to talk about there, Like one thing I get
- 17:36from speaking to you today and obviously Courtney, who we
- 17:39both love, yes, and when she talks about you to me,
- 17:42and from what I've observed, I think of anyone who's
- 17:45anything that you've accomplished externally, but also just the person
- 17:47that you are. I think I'm trying really hard not
- 17:50to compliment you. You say it, say what you love
- 17:54about me. But the thing I find is that I
- 17:59don't think people should underestimate people based on their age
- 18:03or their professional experience, because I'm like, when I see
- 18:06what you've achieved externally in terms of everything we talked about,
- 18:11and who I see you as a human, and just
- 18:12how you've just reflected on how you created roles, Like
- 18:16that's not a you know a lot of time.
- 18:18Speaker 1: That's a year after YouTube, man, I had a lot
- 18:19of time to think and journal and meditate, you know, yeah,
- 18:23But it's.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Like that reflection is super mature, Like people don't realize
- 18:27for decades that they've been creating personas to play and
- 18:30not knowing who they are and figuring out their identity,
- 18:33Like that's something we do for our whole lives. And
- 18:35so I think anyone who's judging someone or questioning someone's
- 18:41ideas when they're walking through their room because of how
- 18:43they look and how they dress and how old they are.
- 18:46I mean that needs to go for sure. That needs
- 18:48to go for sure.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Judge a book by its cover because there's a whole
- 18:50story on the inside that you're about to find out
- 18:52if you're willing to listen.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, And how how have you dealt with that
- 18:55with like you know, you're creating shows, you're hosting shows.
- 18:58How have you dealt with that to be able to
- 19:00display without having to like defend yourself?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Yeah, because I feel like you do that pretty well
- 19:05display defend. There's another D word I say, disarm. So
- 19:09I immediately that's my favorite thing to do, is like disarming,
- 19:12And that's what I use my humor for. Is I
- 19:14either compliment, which you just did, by the way, thank
- 19:16you for all those compliments that you said you weren't
- 19:17gonna give any more of you. You either compliment or
- 19:21you disarm. You allow them to know, like, Yo, we're
- 19:23all just here. We have really cool jobs, and like
- 19:27what we're doing is a blessing to do every day.
- 19:29So to walk in and just immediately like yo, just
- 19:32let's set the temperament. Now, let's let's enjoy ourselves, let's
- 19:35have a good time. Let's let's, you know, acknowledge the
- 19:38world around us and the fact that we're living this
- 19:40life is so cool. So that's that's my go to
- 19:44when walking into a meeting that I'm feeling nervous about,
- 19:46because that's what I want for somebody to do for me.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I want them to make me feel comfortable.
- 19:51Speaker 1: So allowing someone complimenting someone is making them feel comfortable
- 19:54and who they are and like taking a second to
- 19:56acknowledge and notice what they've done to themselves, whatever that be.
- 20:00But yeah, so I think for me, it's just stepping
- 20:03in and being bold and being confident and being that
- 20:05version of myself. I tap into my my jet or
- 20:07I put in my put on my glasses, and I
- 20:10allow myself to firmly believe that I have something to say.
- 20:13And you know, if you're receptive and you're ready to listen,
- 20:15then you're in your place. And if you're not and
- 20:17you want to shut down that idea, then that's all right.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I forgive you.
- 20:21Speaker 1: You're there's there's something that you're working through, and when
- 20:24you work past it, maybe you will see hopefully I
- 20:26pray for you more clearly.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that. That's awesome. Don't display or defend, disarm. Yeah,
- 20:32I think that's beautiful. I think that's such a thank you.
- 20:35I've never thought about it like that, Like I almost
- 20:38feel like I've practiced some of it and do that.
- 20:41I've never really consciously understood that in that word awareness,
- 20:45I think that, Yeah, And I think you've just made
- 20:47me conscious of it and you've walked me up to
- 20:49It's beautiful. It's like that's such a powerful point that
- 20:52I think if we can always look when we walk
- 20:54into meetings or we walk into an interaction or anything
- 20:58to disarm everyone, that we can allow ourselves to be
- 21:02more ourselves. Sure, I think I think that's beautiful. I
- 21:04think that's such a great practical takeaway because I think
- 21:07we all get so lost in we always walk into
- 21:08a meeting and feel like I'm gonna have to defend
- 21:10myself today, I'm gonna have to like stand up for
- 21:12like I'm this. So we start looking at all of
- 21:15our things that people could pick out like I'm going
- 21:16to build myself up, or we got like I'm going
- 21:18to show what I'm good at I'm going to display
- 21:20and I just that's a huge takeaway for me. That's massive.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Did you one thing You've taught me so many like
- 21:27how many posts you have on Instagram?
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:29Speaker 3: That many things. You've taught me that many things and more.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Now you just woke me up to I think that's
- 21:33a huge point. I just think if we can walk
- 21:35into every interaction in our lives, yeah, and think, how
- 21:38can I disarm the other person and disarm myself? Humanize human?
- 21:42Yeah that's beautiful.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yeah, man, That's what I love to do, is just
- 21:46like make you feel comfortable in whatever heightened or relaxed
- 21:49environment that you're in. Like, this is so relaxing to
- 21:52be here just talking to you. It's definitely it's different
- 21:54than Metgal.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Dirt off my shoulder, I mehan, you were doing all
- 21:58the interviews on Metgal. Like this podium right, I.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Was empowering in itself. That ePower five feet tall. I
- 22:05was wearing four inch shields. I was five four but
- 22:07they still needed more.
- 22:08Speaker 2: And you had to wait for everyone to walk the
- 22:10whole coffee and you were standing there as like the
- 22:13gatekeeper ready. But you were amazing. Everyone seemed to love
- 22:15talking Dan, thank you, thank you. What was the conversation
- 22:18that you remember that kind of left and impact?
- 22:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I have to say I love Stephen Colbert.
- 22:24So like last year was my first year doing met Gala.
- 22:26This year I kind of like came back and felt
- 22:28more comfortable and in my power for sure. But last
- 22:31year I just geeked out over Stephen Colbert and from
- 22:33that I was invited to be on his show, which
- 22:35was amazing, and it was just a chain reaction of
- 22:37fortunate events.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Yeah, so it was.
- 22:40Speaker 1: It was cool, but he just you know, he has
- 22:42a platform and I think he uses it in amazing
- 22:44ways and he does the same disarming So I'm just
- 22:48inspired by people I watch all the time. And yeah,
- 22:51yeah it was cool, but let me think who else.
- 22:53It was wonderful, just like seeing people this year, especially
- 22:56the theme was.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Camp so you could go as hard as you wanted to,
- 23:00and I had a whole pocket full of like could
- 23:04have been hot Cheetos that I was selling on the side,
- 23:06which I'm sure people would have appreciated because inside you
- 23:08just get one chicken breast, which.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Chicken breast and a little skip greens. I think an
- 23:14a winter is paleo. She was ensuring everybody else was
- 23:17following her diet, but no, I had a like my
- 23:20arm was missing, so my arm was inside this giant
- 23:22pocket the whole time. It's just like flasted in there
- 23:24the whole time. I didn't see the sunlight, so.
- 23:26Speaker 3: It's a little more pale to this day.
- 23:29Speaker 1: But it was cool because everybody was just expressing themselves
- 23:31and like they were decorating their spirit that day or
- 23:34their soul that day, which I like to say, because
- 23:35they were just having fun and being who they are
- 23:37and embracing it.
- 23:38Speaker 3: So it was fun.
- 23:39Speaker 2: I remember you describing Lady Gaga's out for changes on
- 23:43the carpet, and I was like, this is brilliant, like
- 23:45I was, just because you can see it from Afar
- 23:47and you're like you're going through the motions that everyone
- 23:49got to go through on the pictures afterwards. But I
- 23:52think you did an awesome job and I love how again,
- 23:55like I think you are constantly giving everyone who's listening,
- 23:59everyone who watch your permissioned to be themselves because you
- 24:01always are, Like I just don't see you change in
- 24:05different forums, in different you know, whether it's the stream
- 24:08eas where I first met you, last year or whether
- 24:11it's you know, the mat gulla whatever, like you're always
- 24:14emanating who you are, and I think that that's a
- 24:15beautiful thing. I think holding on too that at such
- 24:18a young age, like you're only twenty three years old,
- 24:21and I think that's amazing that you've just been able
- 24:23to really understand yourself and be comfortable in your own skin.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And I'm glad it looks like that. That's what I'm saying.
- 24:28I think I might be a good actress because because
- 24:31because I am you're I became comfortable with being uncomfortable
- 24:35and I love the skin I'm in, but I'm always
- 24:37trying to understand what exactly is inside so that that
- 24:40willingness to be open and accept whatever may come out.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's it. Well that's what's beautiful about it.
- 24:45Like that's even more powerful you've just said there, like
- 24:47you're constantly trying to understand, Like that constant like awareness
- 24:51and actualization going on is what people need to do. Yeah,
- 24:54I love that. Amazing awesome. Well, tell me about what
- 24:58I was really fascinated by is like, obviously I've done
- 25:00all of this great social media work, like you've you know,
- 25:03built an amazing platform, amazing audience, people love you like
- 25:07you know, and it's just what I was fascinated by
- 25:10is then you go and create a show. And as
- 25:14I was pointing out earlier, to me, it's another level,
- 25:18Like the writing is incredible, the scripting is incredible, the
- 25:21you know, all the jokes in the punchlines, the character style,
- 25:24the other characters that involve, which is different to you
- 25:27being characters. It's now you interacting with real other people,
- 25:31which is different from your work. Tell me about the
- 25:33process of actually building a show, oh man, because I
- 25:36feel like it's a massive undertaking. I mean, building a
- 25:39YouTube audience and YouTube is hard enough, but then to
- 25:41like transition, tell me tell us about that transition.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Oh chat, how much time do we have?
- 25:47Speaker 2: Okay?
- 25:48Speaker 3: So basically, I hope you like the sound of my voice.
- 25:49Speaker 1: By the way, just checking in mid podcasts because I've
- 25:51been talking a lot and I appreciate you guys listening.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I was actually gonna say, you have a great podcast voice.
- 25:57If you ever want to, you know, start a podcast.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Go back then you were saying that on the phone yesterday,
- 26:02like a podcast is a great way to make friends.
- 26:04Speaker 2: You wanted to have deep conversations with people. Literally, I've
- 26:09literally been like I've said to peopople, I'd love to
- 26:11hang out and they're like, yeah, i'd love to too,
- 26:13And I'm like, can you come on my podcast? Like, oh, yeah,
- 26:15when do you want me to come on? Like great?
- 26:18Like but no, I do believe that podcasts are very
- 26:21intimate conversations and it's a chance to go vulnerable, quicker
- 26:26and I can ask whatever I feel like on a podcast,
- 26:29and sometimes when you're off off camera, off you can't.
- 26:33You don't always feel like you can. Yeah, whatever, and
- 26:36like so anyway, but yeah.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I love that, love that. Sorry, my add kicked in.
- 26:39What was the question again?
- 26:41Speaker 2: The question was I'm just trying to I guess there's
- 26:44two parts of this question. Let me break it down.
- 26:45The first part of the question is what do you
- 26:47think people misunderstand about the life of a creator, Like
- 26:51I want I want to understand, like how challenging it
- 26:54is to do what you've done, like you know, all
- 26:57the all the kind of the process it's taken to
- 26:59build the social platform. Yeah. And then the second part
- 27:01of the question is I want to hear how how
- 27:04interesting the transition was from social media to them building
- 27:08a show. Yeah, yeah, okay.
- 27:10Speaker 1: So I will say the life of a creator is
- 27:12an interesting one.
- 27:13Speaker 3: It's you.
- 27:14Speaker 2: You don't get bored.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Definitely, there is no idle mind, I will say, you are.
- 27:19You're constantly working, and it depends what kind of content
- 27:21you're creating. Right, So we have vlogs that are out there,
- 27:24you have your scripted content that's out there. You have
- 27:26just podcasts, I mean you have, you have it all.
- 27:29So for myself, I started off doing vlogging and I
- 27:34enjoyed that, but I wanted to like build. I wanted
- 27:36some kind of like structure, some kind of you know,
- 27:39formula method to my madness, if you will. And I
- 27:43created all these scripts and all these characters, right, And
- 27:45so that was me literally dragging around a tripod in
- 27:48my room and finding lighting and just googling everything, how
- 27:51do I what camera does what? And what what does this?
- 27:54So starting off from scratch and creating kind of my
- 27:56own I didn't know what it was but my production company,
- 27:59and that's what I was doing. But really for me,
- 28:01it was just like creating videos and having fun and
- 28:02being this these versions of myself and putting myself out there.
- 28:07Speaker 3: And little did I realize I was acting too. I
- 28:08just didn't know even though.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I was looking at a white like, I just didn't
- 28:11know that me looking at a white wall, dressing up
- 28:13as a different version of myself was acting until like
- 28:16the label was placed whenever I was like, Oh, that's
- 28:18why does it feel so familiar when I do this,
- 28:21you know, on set with other people.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Oh, because I've been doing this alone in my living room.
- 28:26Speaker 1: For years, you know, making my own like audition and
- 28:30my own reels online. Well, that's what's so cool about
- 28:32social media is like you create your own real, your
- 28:34own resume online, so you can show the world what
- 28:36you can do if placed in another environment or given
- 28:39another chance of some sort. So that's what I was
- 28:41doing in my own living room and creating that.
- 28:44Speaker 3: But it takes.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Hours, hours of scripting and making sure the language is
- 28:50right and you're trying to get the message across, and
- 28:53you know, costume changes on my own and switching into
- 28:56those characters.
- 28:56Speaker 2: And I'm I'm better at night.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I'm surprised I'm five functioning human right now. During the day,
- 29:01I look at that, it's probably because you got blackout curtains.
- 29:03It was like, yeah, it feels like now it feels chill.
- 29:06But I filmed everything from like probably I'll start at
- 29:09like ten pm and go until four am and just
- 29:12change into all these different characters because I just like
- 29:14was better on and more on a performance.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Mode at night.
- 29:18Speaker 1: So I did that and then I would go to
- 29:20sleep and I would wake up and immediately start editing.
- 29:22And editing is the longest process, takes like days days.
- 29:28Speaker 2: That's why this is so believing.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I'm like, you don't have to edit this, really, you
- 29:31just got to chopped into these different angles.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Hi, how you doing. Now you're on jay, Now you're
- 29:35back home me.
- 29:37Speaker 1: We're acknowledging the visuals guys, for those of you listening
- 29:40to the audio. But yeah, no, I I was, you know,
- 29:44taking it took it took a very long time. And
- 29:46I think that's what you see a four minute video,
- 29:48but what went into that was four days or what
- 29:51went into that was a week in that ten minute
- 29:53long video. So like, there's a lot that you don't
- 29:56see that goes into making this one baby. There's a
- 29:58lot of parents, not just yeah, but in this case
- 30:02for my channel, it was just me. I was just
- 30:03a single parent of all these babies I was making online,
- 30:06just taking care and then I got to meet my
- 30:10other parents and I got to you know, co create,
- 30:13and and that was exciting for me, stepping into a
- 30:16different world of creation when it comes to lies on
- 30:18demand and you know, stepping into the writer's room and
- 30:22being able to work with all these mad geniuses who
- 30:25have these stories and ideas and experiences that I get
- 30:29to you know, throw into my show and I have
- 30:32these bouncing around the ideas and it was just so
- 30:37fun to be collaborative creating on what I did online
- 30:40was so fun and it was exciting, but it was
- 30:43very isolating at the same time. I was on my
- 30:45own and I felt like I had to be on
- 30:47my own. And that was the rectangle that I had
- 30:49to break out of, or the box. I say rectangle
- 30:51because that's what you're watching on your phone, right, That's
- 30:53how you're watching.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Your little baby movies.
- 30:55Speaker 1: So that's that was me, you know, breaking out of
- 30:59just being this solo act. I did the opposite of
- 31:03what Beyonce did. I found my destiny's child. I created my.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Destiny with others and then we made children together.
- 31:12Speaker 1: So so I got to make this whole show with
- 31:15like all these incredible creatives and for them to be
- 31:19willing to work with me and put up with me.
- 31:21I'm so I'm so lucky because it was it was
- 31:24fun to produce and write and be in that writer's
- 31:26room for hours instead of alone in my living room
- 31:29on the couch, and and and being in production and
- 31:32figuring out how we're wanting to do this as a
- 31:34team instead of me dragging around that tripod. And they're
- 31:37both equally as amazing. And those experiences made me who
- 31:41I am and gave me the experience and knowledge that
- 31:43I needed to transition over into traditional quote unquote traditional
- 31:47because I think everything's just entertainment now, but get this
- 31:49traditional digital.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Let's blur that line.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I've always tried to do, no matter
- 31:54what I do in my career, Like, I want to
- 31:56blur that line like Will Smith's doing, like he's he
- 31:59Will Smith is my favorite YouTuber, Like, which is crazy,
- 32:02that's wild, right, So to blow that line and just
- 32:05call it entertainment, it's exciting. But yeah, all those experiences
- 32:09helped me into into this new one. And I'm grateful
- 32:12for anybody who's willing to watch and join me on
- 32:14the journey as I've off.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. Will all be watching for sure,
- 32:17everyone who's listening to work for the views. Yeah, no,
- 32:21I think everyone should watch it just because I think
- 32:22it's it's what's interesting for all of us, and especially
- 32:25those of you who have already been a part of
- 32:27your audience for years and those who are new to
- 32:29your audience. It's like, I think we're getting the fortune
- 32:33of watching creators evolve. Like that's special. Yeah, Like I'm like,
- 32:38I'm not meeting you, or like people are not meeting
- 32:40you when you got your first big break. People, people
- 32:45are being able to watch the whole journey growth, the
- 32:48evolution of someone. And I'm like, imagine you got to
- 32:51do that with Leonardo DiCaprio. Imagine you got to do
- 32:54that with Leonardo Kereb is one of my favorite people
- 32:56in the world. Like just like, imagine you got to
- 32:58do that with someone, Like you got to watch someone
- 33:00grow and evolve and take the next step and you
- 33:03know all of that stuff. And I think that's special
- 33:06to be able to have that with someone. And so
- 33:08when I'm seeing you and I'm like see vine and
- 33:10then you see YouTube and then you see like you
- 33:11got your own show, and like then you're hosting Nickelodeon.
- 33:14It's like you're getting just like we're getting to be
- 33:16a part of that. And I think if all of
- 33:18us should be making the most of being a part
- 33:20of those journeys, because those are stories you get to
- 33:22tell in the future. Yeah, those are things that you
- 33:25know you can't You can't join someone at their start
- 33:27of their journey ever. Again, sure, sure right, and not
- 33:29that this is the start of your journey at all,
- 33:31but I mean, like, no one's ever going to get
- 33:33to be a part of this part of your journey
- 33:35without watching it now.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and you can always go back and watch it
- 33:38and see where I came from. And actually, I've never
- 33:39deleted anything on Instagram ever.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Ever.
- 33:41Speaker 1: You can go back to my very first post. You
- 33:43can go back to everything that I've ever created. That's
- 33:45so find a vine. I didn't have an option. They
- 33:47just deleted the whole Thay, they just done.
- 33:50Speaker 2: You tried, you try to keep it alive.
- 33:51Speaker 3: I tried to keep it, couldn't.
- 33:53Speaker 2: I went over to YouTube.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yes, but yeah, no, I it's exciting to see that
- 33:58whole journey. And there is something that someone said to
- 34:00me that I believe it was someone that worked with
- 34:02Nicole Kidman, who was you know, we knew her as
- 34:06this movie actress, and then she started doing Big Little Lies,
- 34:09and you know, people were hesitant to walk up to
- 34:12her as a movie actress, like seeing them you're paying
- 34:14to see Nicole Kidman on the big screen, Like there's
- 34:17this there's this level of like there's a filter in
- 34:20between you and her, like you feel like it's a
- 34:22you can't touch her. But then when she was on
- 34:24Big Little Lies, she stepped into the living room into
- 34:28the homes of so many and apparently people would you know,
- 34:31come up to her and say I love your work
- 34:33and immediately go in for a hug without asking Nicole Kidman,
- 34:36can I give you a hug? And it was just
- 34:39immediate connection. And she was confused by it because, you know,
- 34:43to go from people not speaking to you for whatever
- 34:48reason and then to being a part of their family
- 34:51and sitting down and being a part of their story.
- 34:53She was shocked by it because there's a level of
- 34:55comfort there now now creators, we are with you, we
- 34:59are on a toilet with you, we are in bed
- 35:02with you. I have slept with people I don't know
- 35:04about it is and it's wild to me. How intimate
- 35:08that experience is, and how intimate it is to share
- 35:11your story your vlogs or whatever. And you're seeing behind
- 35:14the curtain more than ever now, So it's exciting. That's
- 35:17why all these celebrities too, are wanting to get into
- 35:19YouTube and show the process.
- 35:21Speaker 3: So fingers cross. Leonardo DiCaprio has a.
- 35:24Speaker 2: YouTube channel now, Yeah, which will save the planet too.
- 35:27I mean that would be the best. Yeah, that'd be
- 35:29so cool. That'd be so cool. Tell me about you've
- 35:31said before that life has been and when I'm I'm
- 35:34feeling your energy today and I'm sensing you're in a
- 35:36great place, like things are exciting and everything. But you
- 35:39have said before, like you know, life is like equal
- 35:41pots joy, equal parts pain, truth. Tell me about that,
- 35:44Like what does that mean to you and how do
- 35:46you process that and how does that help you grow?
- 35:48Speaker 1: Oh man, I mean, you wouldn't know the joy without
- 35:51the pain. Like I am, I am full in my
- 35:54power right now, and I feel good and I feel
- 35:57proud of everything that I've worked on, everything that I
- 35:59am gonna have become. But there were many many times
- 36:02where I was just living in in shame and and
- 36:06you know, spiraling of sorts of like who am I
- 36:10and and trying to identify myself and what I am
- 36:13and what I'm doing and what I'm meant to do.
- 36:16And I feel like that's a description of your twenties.
- 36:20Speaker 2: So true, so true, Thank you, thank you for.
- 36:24Speaker 1: I really like I'm ready for twenty twenty. I think
- 36:27I'm gonna tease a series that I don't even know
- 36:29if I'm gonna do it, but I can't wait to
- 36:30be like in the twenties, living in the twenties.
- 36:33Speaker 2: I work on it. Editor manifest, please do it.
- 36:39Speaker 3: I know where you are, I know where you live.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Please please do it. Please do it.
- 36:43Speaker 1: I will, I will try it because I.
- 36:44Speaker 2: I really want.
- 36:45Speaker 1: I wish there was some kind of guidance for my
- 36:47twenties outside of my sisters who have helped me so much.
- 36:50Shout out to them, but yeah, they you know. It's
- 36:53it's it's such an interesting time where you're like trying
- 36:56to identify yourself, like going through high school again, like
- 36:58what what group do you belong to? Do I sit
- 37:01at this table? Do I sit at that table? But
- 37:03for you, it's the ne yar twenties, and there's no distinguishing,
- 37:05Like I'm in high school. Now I'm in college, and
- 37:08now that's why I'm not friends with that person because
- 37:09we went to different high schools. But now it's just
- 37:11like life, and now it's just like, oh, I'm not
- 37:13friends with that person because we just we grew apart
- 37:16temporarily or maybe maybe.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Just for life.
- 37:19Speaker 1: And that's okay, because they served a purpose in my
- 37:21life at one point and I've learned from them and
- 37:23I've loved for them and every experience of them, but
- 37:26like no longer does. And so it may be and
- 37:29maybe life will bring people back together at some point.
- 37:31But I definitely lived in in such shame of myself.
- 37:35And that was from unfortunately reading comments online for a
- 37:38little bit too, was receiving feedback and quote unquote because
- 37:42it's not validating, but quote unquote validating a feeling that
- 37:45I was already internally feeling, but from an external source,
- 37:47which was all these comments online.
- 37:50Speaker 3: And I was like, Oh, they're seeing me, they're seeing me.
- 37:52I don't want them to see me.
- 37:54Speaker 1: And allowing myself to, you know, feel those feelings and
- 37:58lean into those feelings and let myself sit with them
- 38:01and figure out why I'm feeling that, what's the root
- 38:03of the problem instead of shoving it down even further
- 38:06and not allowing myself to feel it because society tells us,
- 38:08you know, you can't feel or put out anything but
- 38:11being happy. And that's why I'm glad for this. I'm
- 38:13so happy for this generation, this younger generation who knows
- 38:17and they're learning through media that has become even more
- 38:19vulnerable through people like you who have encouraged us to
- 38:23allow ourselves to feel every feeling and experience it and
- 38:28figure out what exactly is going wrong and what childhood
- 38:32trauma did I go through in which that's it's bleeding
- 38:34into adulthood and so allowing myself to sit and journal
- 38:39and meditate or you know, whatever solutions you may find
- 38:42for yourself, like I did that, and I'm glad that's
- 38:45what I did in that year too, was give myself
- 38:48that time. And I've come out this of the fire
- 38:52being this phoenix cal like you're ready to like serve
- 38:58the world, because you know, I gave that time and
- 39:00I served myself and that's what I want to do
- 39:02is be generous of the energy that I've harvested for
- 39:05myself and give it to others.
- 39:06Speaker 3: So but yeah, I definitely.
- 39:08Speaker 2: There was a time.
- 39:09Speaker 3: I think it was at the Continuing Conference.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Yes, I remember where I was just I was not
- 39:13feeling the utmost to myself and or myselves and I
- 39:19it wasn't wasn't my strongest place, but even just sitting
- 39:22with you in that moment and you just like kind
- 39:24of empowering me and through what I do, I was.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Like, oh, he sees something I don't see right now.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Oh, I see what he sees one day, you know,
- 39:31like you were just you were so kind and so
- 39:32giving at a time that I really needed it, and
- 39:34so I thank you for that.
- 39:36Speaker 3: My nostrils are flaring.
- 39:37Speaker 1: I'm trying to hold back tears because there is a
- 39:39visual your podcast.
- 39:40Speaker 3: You can't hear them, shaky voice. But I was grateful
- 39:43for that, really, really truly grateful.
- 39:45Speaker 1: And I was grateful for the strangers that smiled at
- 39:47me at a time where I couldn't smile myself. Yeah.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so beautiful. Thank you for sharing that. I
- 39:52think it's so important for people to hear that because
- 39:55and I loved what you said that. I do think
- 39:57that we're at a time when your generation, especially and
- 40:01this generation right now, is allowing itself to explore, and
- 40:06I think when I remember even with me and I'm
- 40:08only you know, a little bit older than you, but yeah,
- 40:11all right, I'm But it's like I remember thinking that
- 40:17my twenties I was told anyway, my twenties had to
- 40:20be when I figured it out, like it was already
- 40:23figured out, like by the time you finish college or university,
- 40:26you have to have it figured out. And I went
- 40:29off and became a monk. So I totally went off,
- 40:31Like if there's any way to say I don't agree
- 40:34with the system, it's becoming a monk. It's like, you know,
- 40:36that's like completely anti s. It's totally rebellious, Like I
- 40:40always becoming a monk is one of the most rebellious
- 40:42things I could have ever done, because it's totally anti
- 40:45the systems and the establishments. Like it's like basically saying
- 40:48I don't value material things. And so when I went
- 40:51off and did that, I spent and I can and
- 40:53that's why I can testify and totally agree with everything
- 40:55you're saying. I spent my whole twenties figuring myself out
- 40:59and learning. Not that I figured it all out and
- 41:01that I'm done now, but at least one phase of
- 41:04that cycle was what I dedicated my twenties to. Like,
- 41:08I made my first video when I was twenty eight. Wow,
- 41:12that was one of my first twenty nine, twenty eight,
- 41:14twenty nine, so two three years ago is when I
- 41:15made my first video, and that was the first time
- 41:18I'd made any piece of media. Yeah, but it was
- 41:22coming from a place of I've just spent my twenty
- 41:24one to twenty eight just reflecting, thinking, meditating, figuring stuff out, intension, reflecting.
- 41:31It wasn't just like, it wasn't just like, oh yeah,
- 41:33let's make video. You know. It wasn't like that. And
- 41:34I think hearing you say that is so beautiful because
- 41:37I think that applies to whenever anyone who's listening or
- 41:41watching has that reflection. So if you have that reflection
- 41:43at thirty, that's your twenties. If you have that reflection
- 41:46at forty, that's your twenties. Yeah. You know, it's like
- 41:49there's no number on it, no nine.
- 41:51Speaker 1: And you're constantly you're forever be a student, Like you're
- 41:53constantly learning, and you're constantly like trying to figure out
- 41:57You're always trying to figure it out, whatever it may be,
- 42:00and to not have it figured out is comforting to
- 42:03come to as a solution, at least for me. It's
- 42:05not being like, you know what, I don't know. Someone
- 42:07asked me what they thought my Someone asked me, what's
- 42:10your purpose? What do you think your purpose is?
- 42:12Speaker 2: I was like, multipurpose.
- 42:15Speaker 1: I might a cleaner of sorts, hardwood floors or glass surfaces, like,
- 42:20I don't know. I'm trying to figure that out, Like I.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Don't have it figured out.
- 42:25Speaker 3: And I'm okay with that. So I think, like I agree.
- 42:27Speaker 1: That learning and unlearning of what you've learned before, like
- 42:29it's it's constantly changing as our world around has changes, right.
- 42:32Speaker 2: And I think the challenge that we set ourselves up
- 42:35for which we're you're doing articulating so well, is when
- 42:39we're in the process of reflection, figuring it out, introspection.
- 42:43Whatever that may look like, it doesn't have to look
- 42:45a certain way. That's the place we're going to be forever. Anyway.
- 42:48You just don't want to be in the place of
- 42:49either saying, Okay, I found it and I'm done or
- 42:51I'm not even going to bother Yeah, to be in
- 42:54the process, because I think those both extreams can be
- 42:57quite isolating and scary when you're like, Okay, I'm done.
- 43:00I know I found my purpose. I found it. And
- 43:02I've been at times in my life where I actually
- 43:04was on that end where I was like, I know
- 43:05exactly what my purpose. I know exactly what I'm doing. Yeah,
- 43:08and that also makes you go backwards and then yeah,
- 43:11like you don't want to be I look.
- 43:12Speaker 3: At you and I'm like, oh, he's got to figure
- 43:13it out. Like I'm over here cent I'm okay without
- 43:16figuring out.
- 43:16Speaker 2: But Jay, let me tell you about Jay. He's no,
- 43:18he knows everything. No, And I'd say, I'm I always
- 43:22think life is in percentages, Like I don't think I
- 43:24think life is percentages. I don't think life is ever
- 43:27one hundred percent or zero percent. It's ninety nine percent,
- 43:29it's eighty seven percent, it's ninety three Like everything is proportionate, right,
- 43:34It's not like you've got it. There are times in
- 43:36my life where I'm like, Okay, I'm ninety five percent
- 43:38on track, but there's five percent. I've got to leave
- 43:40that space to figure out more and to get to
- 43:42the next phase and learn and grow. But if I
- 43:45ever go okay, I'm one hundred percent done now then
- 43:47it's kind of like, well then I don't need to
- 43:49then I don't need to be or do it. It
- 43:50can't out totally. Yeah, exactly, your YEA power is like okay,
- 43:53it's your time exactly. I think it's just making I
- 43:55just want to be always shifting my percentage in the
- 43:57right direction, but I don't ever get to a point
- 43:59where it's zero or one hundred. Yeah, you know, so
- 44:02it's beautiful. I love that. Yeah. I just think like
- 44:04life is phases and phases change, and naturally you're going
- 44:07to go through different transitions in your life. Yeah, And
- 44:11I just think that we we try and get out
- 44:13of transitions quickly, but transitions are the time to spend
- 44:17time in. Like, that's where you want to spend your
- 44:18time is in the transition and get it right, because
- 44:21when you rush a transition, you end up at a
- 44:22destination you don't want to be at. Right. So, yep, right,
- 44:26I don't know you're inspiring me right now. I'm just
- 44:28saying this space and I'm just trying to validate what
- 44:31I'm hearing you say at twenty three and I'm like,
- 44:33I'm thirty one now and I'm listening to you, and
- 44:35I'm like, that is exactly what I was doing when
- 44:37I was like twenty three, Like I was a monk.
- 44:38So you're practically the same you know, the same thing.
- 44:41But you know that's what it's what's Wor's month. That's
- 44:44where I was, Yeah, in the nails, ylic but no,
- 44:48it's the same process. That's what I'm loving hearing about.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well, thank you, thank you.
- 44:53Speaker 2: I'm glad.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I mean that's crazy that that that that's a process
- 44:56that you have to see your exit maybe say process.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Process, process, process process.
- 45:02Speaker 1: That's a process, process that you have to go through
- 45:05and you never you kind of never stop going through it.
- 45:07Speaker 3: What percentage would you say you're at today?
- 45:10Speaker 2: That's so for me on this, Yeah, this is my podcast,
- 45:16this is not I'm definitely in the i'd say in
- 45:21the eighties and the nineties, so like, yeah, eighties are
- 45:24then argon like yeah, you know eighties or nineties and
- 45:27it's getting closer. But I'm never looking for And I
- 45:29think you've you said this beautifully like multi purpose. I
- 45:33think that's a great. We've got to change the podcast
- 45:35name on purpose it's multipersel. But I think that I
- 45:39resonate with that, like, I get what you're saying there, right,
- 45:42I think that what you do. Yeah, And I think
- 45:45that your purpose should always evolve, because if it's not
- 45:48evolving and you're not giving it space to grow and
- 45:50change and deepen, then then you're just stuck doing one
- 45:55thing or believing one thing that you only should do,
- 45:58that you only should do and be and achieve one thing.
- 46:01And then I'm just like, but that's not real and
- 46:03I've not seen the greats do that, and I've not
- 46:05seen people I admire do that, and and also I
- 46:07just don't think that's realistic. So but I feel very
- 46:10on purpose. And that's why I call the podcast on
- 46:12purpose is because I always want to feel. Am I
- 46:14on purpose? Like? Am I going in the right direction?
- 46:17Speaker 5: You know? Is?
- 46:18Speaker 2: You know? And that's how I feel. But my life
- 46:19is very on purpose and everything's intentional, but it's not
- 46:23all figured out. And I think, you know, you can
- 46:25figure out the intention, but you can't that you can't
- 46:28define it, you can't expect a result. Yes, you know,
- 46:31does that make sense? If any of that makes sense?
- 46:33But insane is that you say the most profound, prolific things.
- 46:37You're like did that make sense? No, but I'm exerious
- 46:40because I'm just flowing and saying stuff and I'm like,
- 46:42this is the flow. Oh, the flow made sense.
- 46:45Speaker 5: Man.
- 46:45Speaker 3: I'm so glad you record, Like I'm glad it's being
- 46:47recorded so you know you can look back and be like,
- 46:49I'm a genius.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:50Speaker 3: That was a good episode.
- 46:52Speaker 2: This is a good episode because of you. But the
- 46:55other thing that really that stuck out to me was
- 46:58this whole process that I was thinking about of. You
- 47:02have often mentioned that you even experienced like social anxiety, right,
- 47:08and you talk about it a lot, you address it
- 47:10a lot, and I think when people first see you
- 47:12and like what you're saying about me, like when I
- 47:14see you and again what you've done is like you're like,
- 47:16oh no, but Liz is like confident, like she's got
- 47:19to figure out and the saying what you're saying about me,
- 47:20like when you see me like a Jay's got it
- 47:22figured out. And it's like I think when people hear us,
- 47:24like when I'm like, no, actually it's percentages and I'm
- 47:26figuring it out. It's not only good for everyone to
- 47:29hear that. It's good for me to know that, but
- 47:31for you to say, hey, I'm a social media person,
- 47:33but I've actually explained social anxiety, like walk me through
- 47:38when you feel comfortable saying that, but more importantly, like
- 47:43what have you seen has helped you with that? Or
- 47:45how have you managed that?
- 47:46Speaker 3: Man? Oh man, good question. That's dupe. Okay, we'll.
- 47:53Speaker 1: We're back after this short commercial break. That's actually thirty
- 47:57bit a song. No, I believe I'm trying to pinpoint
- 48:01the exact moment where I became comfortable. I think I
- 48:03made a video about anxiety and it was my you know,
- 48:06kind of like my social thoughts, and it was very
- 48:08like surface level of you know, I was trying to
- 48:09bring humor, integrating humor into actual like social anxiety commentary
- 48:14or social commentary, and it was it was tough for me.
- 48:18You know, it got especially interesting or controversial in the
- 48:20comments because people were like, that's not anxiety, or that's
- 48:22not how I experienced anxiety. And we all experience it
- 48:24in different ways, right, there's different different I don't even
- 48:28want to say levels, because not no level is worse
- 48:30than the other, because there's it's just your own experience
- 48:33and it's your interpretation of life or social interactions or
- 48:37you know, some people have anxiety about death, and like
- 48:39I've talked about many different types of anxiety, but I
- 48:42think that was the moment in which I thought comfortable
- 48:46and appropriate in a time for me to speak out
- 48:48about it, was creating that video. But I do have
- 48:51social anxiety, and I think speaking about it and even
- 48:54hearing your people like yourself who appear to have it
- 48:56all figured out, just like I even said, no, Jay
- 48:58knows everything. To hear that that you do or experience
- 49:02anxiety or nerves disarms people and it just allows them.
- 49:06It humanizes you and allows you to know that you
- 49:09experience these other emotions outside of the confidence that I also.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Emit.
- 49:15Speaker 1: And it's what I strive to do. It's to show
- 49:17people that can feel confident no matter what situation. But
- 49:21my social anxiety definitely became like even social media anxiety,
- 49:24and I was scared to put myself out there online,
- 49:28which I was scared to put in which I was
- 49:29scared to put myself out there in real life, and
- 49:33it kind of went hand in hand. And I will say,
- 49:35with like my social anxiety, I even was nervous coming
- 49:38here today, I'm even nervous. I fluctuate and flow just
- 49:41throughout the course of this podcast, I'm like, yo, I
- 49:43said that and that was dope. Wait, no, I can't
- 49:45say anything that top step. I have to I have
- 49:47to have something else more profound. I gotta whip out
- 49:49Google real quick and quote Gandhi real fast or something.
- 49:52Speaker 2: I need to peak.
- 49:54Speaker 3: Like there's waves ebb.
- 49:55Speaker 1: And flow of your mind and so many thoughts happen
- 49:59per second or minute. And you know, I've I with
- 50:03my social anxiety, I also have a little bit of
- 50:05de realization where I do realize and I questioned reality.
- 50:09Speaker 3: I think that's my like creative side of my brain
- 50:11going and being like is this real?
- 50:13Speaker 2: That's the curR oft there and you're like, what was
- 50:15then my drink earlier?
- 50:17Speaker 1: Just like you know, you have ebb and flow of
- 50:19like confidence and then lowered confidence, and that can happen
- 50:22within the span of five minutes or a couple of
- 50:24days or a couple of years. And you know, you
- 50:27you might stay down low for a little bit, but
- 50:28the fact that you know you can come back up
- 50:30and and when you are low, to know to think
- 50:32of times where you felt high and to experience that
- 50:35that gratitude that you you know you can feel that happy.
- 50:39That's what I cling onto most. You cling on to most.
- 50:42You can't feel any other feeling but gratitude when experience
- 50:46experience and gratitude. And I'm so thankful for that because
- 50:48in my times of darkness, I just feel grateful that
- 50:51I know what light feels like.
- 50:52Speaker 2: And so that's that's what I hold on to at
- 50:55all times.
- 50:55Speaker 3: But I forgot the question again, no answer, how was
- 51:00the ev and for right there just.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Being like I think I said that. That's like they
- 51:03like saying, does that make sense? Do you give what
- 51:06I'm saying for those words? Yeah? Yeah, because in my
- 51:10mind it just sounded like random words together. No, No,
- 51:13you have answered the question. I think that's I love
- 51:16the way that you even brought it into this podcast,
- 51:18and I think that's why we look to make We
- 51:21try to have shorter phone calls, we try to message
- 51:24people instead of meet them. Like this is all part
- 51:26of that anxiety, because trying to be interesting for a
- 51:29long period of time is tough, Like you know, we
- 51:32or we we put that pressure on ourselves of like
- 51:35oh crap, like I don't think I can go on
- 51:36this date because I'm going to be interesting for thirty
- 51:38minutes on a date, whereas if I just message her
- 51:41or him, then that's gonna, you know, whatever it is.
- 51:43And so I feel like we avoid And I think
- 51:46just the fact that you just mentioned sitting you're right now,
- 51:49you are sitting on a podcast talking about how you've
- 51:52felt anxiety on this podcast, right and the ebbs and flows,
- 51:56And I think that's awesome because I think the beautiful
- 51:59thing is that when we lean away from our anxiety,
- 52:02that's when it gets scary because we just ignore it.
- 52:04We try to bury it, we try like push it away.
- 52:06But when you lean into it and you're like, oh,
- 52:08I can see you, like I see you, I'm aware
- 52:10of you, and I know when I feel you and
- 52:13when you appear in my life, and I know that
- 52:15gratitude is going to help me. And how do you
- 52:18recall those grateful moments of you feeling that light? Is that?
- 52:21Have you written them down? Do you have a do
- 52:22you have an amazing memory where you're remembering them? Is
- 52:25it is it something you're wearing, Like earlier you're talking
- 52:27about the T shirt with the yeah, you know, be humble,
- 52:30be brave, Be humble, be brave.
- 52:31Speaker 1: And I have a lot of like shirts like that
- 52:33that like something just like wearing all these colors makes
- 52:37me feel bright, like it's kind of like a costume
- 52:40depending that helps me feel what I'm feeling on the
- 52:42inside and kind of accentuates that. So yes, I do
- 52:44wear like a lot of shirts that say like be grateful,
- 52:46be humble, be this, be that, just as a reminder
- 52:49to me and anybody who's you know, receptive to reading
- 52:52my shirt, whoever has really good eyed psych sometimes really
- 52:56tiny and minimalistic and aesthetic in the.
- 52:58Speaker 3: Middle of your shirt.
- 53:00Speaker 2: But no, I I have.
- 53:03Speaker 3: I have a journal. I journal a lot. I journal.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I also do the most millennial thing where I video
- 53:09diary and I make videos, and I make videos in
- 53:12my time of even darkness where I kind of like
- 53:14get analytical and explain to myself how I'm feeling.
- 53:17Speaker 2: These the videos we're seeing or you make these vide
- 53:19That's what I'm saying. I've seen videos you've put out
- 53:21I'm just.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Like, yeah, and those are my Those are my more
- 53:24like lighthearted videos obviously that I put out there into
- 53:27the world.
- 53:27Speaker 3: But I do have these like very.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Intense videos where I'm like trying to figure out why
- 53:31I feel a certain way. And it's just for me
- 53:33to kind of have it's like a personal video, but
- 53:35I'm constantly making concept. It's just a matter of whether
- 53:38or not you see it. But for me, it allows
- 53:41me to like emotionally release because you know, I think
- 53:44I don't think any millennial is good handwriting.
- 53:46Speaker 3: We just we do not pick up pens or paper pens.
- 53:50Speaker 1: The books in here are freaking me out because the
- 53:52amount of paper cuts that could happen. It's a dangerous
- 53:54place we're in right now, guys. But like I have,
- 53:56I don't journal as much as I do video journal,
- 54:00guess or I make these own my own versions of
- 54:03podcasts that I'll never release, but they're they are audio
- 54:07audio of me just like working things out, and and
- 54:10I see myself slowly get to like a place of
- 54:13comfort and and positivity and light again, you know, as
- 54:16I you know, work through you know, the feelings of
- 54:18darkness kind of.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Things, so I eventually get myself back. But it is
- 54:22it's a lot of reminders.
- 54:23Speaker 2: It's your posts.
- 54:24Speaker 3: It's literally your posts that remind me and feed me.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Because I even said before that your feed can sometimes
- 54:30star view of reality of what real life is. Because
- 54:33we're constantly scrolling and looking down and like you're looking down?
- 54:37How can you not feel down?
- 54:39Speaker 2: That's you know and so right.
- 54:42Speaker 1: You feel down when you're looking down at somebody else
- 54:44live their life and you're you're busy watching.
- 54:47Speaker 5: You know.
- 54:47Speaker 1: So I you know, I I've fed my feed when
- 54:51I was going through that time to uh make sure
- 54:53I had that that positive and perspective you know, from
- 54:57others who are willing to share their stories. And I knew,
- 55:00you know this is my problems are so small and
- 55:03everything what I'm going through is yes, my reality, but
- 55:07it's so small in comparison to like how big the
- 55:09world is and there's so much to see and love
- 55:11and experience.
- 55:12Speaker 2: So yeah, those are such practical tips. I love that. No,
- 55:16I think the video journal is is such a great idea.
- 55:20I personally prefer audio and video journals to written ones. Really, yeah,
- 55:23I actually do because A, I think you're right that
- 55:26the handwriting point definitely, but also just be the patience
- 55:29to build a written life, I think because we've not
- 55:32been used to it growing up, especially your generation, even
- 55:35more so the younger millennials. Yeah, and it's we're not
- 55:38used to it as much so being able to talk
- 55:40it out. And also what I think is really powerful
- 55:42is when you talk it out and then you listen
- 55:45as if you're listening to someone else, that you can
- 55:48then hear your problems from a more objective point of view. Yah,
- 55:51And so I actually think what you're saying is perfect.
- 55:53I think doing video or audio recordings are such a
- 55:56brilliant way of journaling, and I think you can hear
- 55:58yourself and your voice and when you talk it out.
- 56:00It's like, I think that's such a small move, and
- 56:03I've not had many people say that, but I definitely
- 56:06feel it's I definitely feel that's a huge, huge thing.
- 56:08I recommend anyone who's listening and watching right now, if
- 56:11you've struggled with journaling in a written form, please take
- 56:14Lysa's tip on doing audio and visual journals. And it's
- 56:18such a great thing to be easily looked back upon.
- 56:20Speaker 1: Thank you. Yeah, Jay's tip too, because you do it
- 56:22as well, which is it's nice. It's sometimes I will
- 56:24go back and I'll watch myself like not in my power,
- 56:27and I'm like, I want to give her a hug,
- 56:29And that's the most like feeling of self compassion.
- 56:30Speaker 2: You got to remind yourself of too. It's like, oh,
- 56:33like it's okay.
- 56:34Speaker 3: Girls can be all right.
- 56:35Speaker 1: Like I promise you, I'm here right now, and everything
- 56:37inevitably turned out just okay, you are going to be
- 56:41just fine. And then I also make videos for myself
- 56:43where I am fully in my power and feeling confident
- 56:46and make a video saying, yo, this, remind yourself of this.
- 56:50Speaker 3: You just girl right here and like that looks like
- 56:52I was making the TikTok plug TikTok. That's great.
- 56:58Speaker 1: But like I'll make videos like that even just to
- 57:00remind myself in times of when I'm feeling not so
- 57:03not so hot, and I'll go watch that and be like.
- 57:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I know she exists. I get back to her,
- 57:07she said, within me at all times.
- 57:09Speaker 5: All right.
- 57:09Speaker 2: Cool, it's nice, yeah, to remind her exactly. You mentioned
- 57:13earlier that you've learned a few things from your oldest sisters. Yeah,
- 57:16you mentioned thank your sisters. Tell me about some of
- 57:19the things you've learned from both of them. They warned
- 57:21me about the twenties. That's good.
- 57:24Speaker 1: They were in the twenties, yeah, sistery, Yeah, I like that.
- 57:29Speaker 2: My god, that's like a good book.
- 57:31Speaker 1: But yeah, no, I They warned me about twenties being
- 57:34at tough time, and I was eighteen, was like, well, I.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Went through whatever I needed to go through because I'm fine,
- 57:40don't worry. I got to figure it out. Then twenty like.
- 57:43Speaker 3: Bick, oh, it's funny.
- 57:44Speaker 1: I actually went in for this sidebar as always with
- 57:47my attention deficit disorder. But I went in to get
- 57:50tested for attention deficit disorder and they told me you.
- 57:54Speaker 2: You don't have ady D. No, we can't give you
- 57:56any medication for that, but.
- 57:57Speaker 3: You have anxiety.
- 57:58Speaker 2: Good luck. That was it.
- 58:00Speaker 1: That was the end of that doctor's appointment, and I
- 58:02was like what I was eighteen. I was like what, Like,
- 58:05I don't know what you mean. Then twenty twentieth birthday
- 58:08hit me and I had the utmost anxiety. I had
- 58:11just moved out to LA I was experiencing all this
- 58:14new life experiences for the first time, and anxiety just
- 58:17like came at me. So it was it was definitely them,
- 58:20you know, warnying me about the twenties and then just
- 58:24allowing they told me that, Like I think my middle
- 58:26sister Olivia told me that things are just like temporary,
- 58:29like you have to understand that there's a lot. That's
- 58:31that's temporary. So with that knowledge, no, to appreciate the
- 58:35moment when it's there and be very very present when
- 58:38it stay.
- 58:38Speaker 2: I have the ultimate goal.
- 58:39Speaker 1: Another sidebar, dogs are amazing. That seemed random, but dots video.
- 58:47Speaker 2: My brain had to like run from like my left
- 58:49hand side of my brain to the right hand side
- 58:51to be like.
- 58:51Speaker 1: What on the sidebar, I'm having sushi tonight, but like
- 58:55sidebar the dogs saying it's because dogs are so present,
- 58:58they're so there's were just there, they were there with
- 59:02you at any moment. They just want to love and
- 59:04be loved and that's that's all they do. So I
- 59:06just whenever I say present, like if you need a
- 59:09grounding presence, it's a dog sometimes. So that's another tip.
- 59:12If you just go find a dog, go to an
- 59:13adoption place and go pet one. Just be present with
- 59:15that moment. But yeah, with that information that things are temporary,
- 59:19to know that it's not this is this moment doesn't
- 59:23define you, it's not who you are, and and that
- 59:26this two shot pass and then also temporary it being
- 59:30like experience that would be grateful that you're there and
- 59:32and and so that that's when I took away from
- 59:34my sisters.
- 59:34Speaker 3: Yeah, both of them.
- 59:36Speaker 2: That's beautiful.
- 59:37Speaker 3: Actually talk a lot crap about them.
- 59:38Speaker 2: So this is good. This is good. Just before family holidays,
- 59:43Family holiday and one and half weeks.
- 59:46Speaker 1: By the way, they're all such like my whole family
- 59:48is like such a big fan of yours. I'm trying
- 59:50to figure out the right moments to geek out at
- 59:53the next wedding. We're both brown. We're about to end
- 59:55up at the same wedding at some point.
- 59:57Speaker 2: I hope I'm not striving. You're like a all the
- 1:00:00shared brown, Like I'm not sure, like if you get
- 1:00:02a cooler wedding.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: So yeah, there's fifty shades of brown at every wedding.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: I'm tanned right now too, So this is not this
- 1:00:08is not the real me you were going on. No,
- 1:00:12I'd love to meet them, like I genuinely loved me,
- 1:00:14love me. It would be amazing, Like it would be
- 1:00:16so nice. I love meeting people's families because I think,
- 1:00:19you know, like you took such a big move to
- 1:00:21move away from your family, Like I know it was
- 1:00:23hard doing it twenty eight as an overall, I mean
- 1:00:26I left earlier when I went to university and became
- 1:00:28a monk and stuff. But yeah, I think like you
- 1:00:30leaving at nineteen twenty to come to La. Yeah, like
- 1:00:34La is a big, crazy place, but it seems like
- 1:00:38you've attracted the right people around you here. Like I
- 1:00:41feel like you've kind of you've built a unit or
- 1:00:44a squad of people that you feel very happy around.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Yeah, understand me and I understand them.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: How did you get to want to figure out who
- 1:00:50was right to have around you? Like? How did you
- 1:00:52get Because I don't think I don't believe people are
- 1:00:54good or bad. I just think there's right people to
- 1:00:55have around you, and there's times when it's not the
- 1:00:57right people to have around you. But how did you
- 1:00:58get a sense of figure out who you wanted around you?
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: Like?
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: What was it?
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: That was I mean there's like this almost instinctual, like
- 1:01:06gut feeling of just like energy and like sounds like
- 1:01:09such an LA word, but vabes bro like vives of
- 1:01:13that that you get from a person, and you just
- 1:01:15know that that's that those are your people. You feel
- 1:01:17the utmost sense of comfort and strength even within the
- 1:01:20first interaction, in the first minute of meeting them, and
- 1:01:22you're like, oh you you are someone I want around
- 1:01:25because you you keep me in my power and you
- 1:01:28believe in it even if I don't. And that's what
- 1:01:31Courtney Courtney Carter my manager CMG, love you, Courtney.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: You're listening, girl. She's proud of me. She's see her
- 1:01:38up right now, She's like, well, she's being real vulnerable.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: She you know, she is my my manager, but also
- 1:01:44like just like my partner in crime, my producing partner,
- 1:01:46my my like best one of my best friends, and
- 1:01:49like I spent so many moments with her like uh
- 1:01:51that I'm I'm so grateful for her period.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: She's awesome.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: She's amazing, and like you even you even know in
- 1:01:58the the going to dinner with her, like you just
- 1:02:01you just know how much of a grounding, empowering person
- 1:02:04she is and what a present she is when she
- 1:02:06walks into the room. So I, you know, meeting her
- 1:02:10one of the first days that I was out in
- 1:02:13LA and it was just by chance, by fate, by destiny,
- 1:02:17by everything, the stars aligning and just me meeting her
- 1:02:21and finding like my left brain. Yeah, I say, I'm
- 1:02:24the right brain. I get to be all creative and
- 1:02:26crazy and we're all these colors. And then she is
- 1:02:28the left brain who keeps me, keeps me a line
- 1:02:30and supports me and like tells me this is logical
- 1:02:32and this is not.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: And I'm like, yeah, because I was being emotional.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: I loved that you had her and she had you. Yeah,
- 1:02:39like I loved it. Like I've said that to a
- 1:02:41million times. I was like, I'm so glad that someone
- 1:02:43as amazing as Eliza is with you. And I'm so
- 1:02:47glad that Liza has someone like you, you know, both
- 1:02:49ways around. Like I just think it's awesome and I
- 1:02:51think that it's it's so important what you just said,
- 1:02:55Like whether it's left and right brain or the right souls,
- 1:02:57but whatever it is, like however you want to word it,
- 1:03:00it's so important to have those complimentary people around us
- 1:03:03because it's hard to find. It's not easy at all,
- 1:03:06and to have found it on your first day. Yeah,
- 1:03:09I mean that's insane, insane.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: I mean, that's someone's looking out for me.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: I'm just saying I think that's beautiful.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: Guy's been working man, and he brought many many angels
- 1:03:18into my life. So I'm thankful for it.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: And she introduced me. I think I can't remember I'm
- 1:03:23a fake fan, right, now, but she.
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: Introduced me to you.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: I think and and and that's like that was just
- 1:03:29it's also those people that introduced it even more good
- 1:03:31people that it's just the chain reaction of goodness and
- 1:03:34and and becomes like this whole family that you you know,
- 1:03:38you got to choose and and and I'm just lucky.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: I'm just really really lucky.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it's beautiful to hear that you deserve it. Thank you,
- 1:03:46very happy for you. You deserve it.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: And I only want more amazing people to come and
- 1:03:51find you and be with you.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: And I wish you the same, and I curse you
- 1:03:54with all happy people in your life, good people.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: I want to dive in more in to the show specifically. Yeah,
- 1:04:01I had the next season because I think it's exciting
- 1:04:05from a viewers point of view. I'm sure it's exciting
- 1:04:07from a creative Like you said, the budgets got better.
- 1:04:09Everyone's gonna get to see you wear less clothes, which
- 1:04:12is interesting and intriguing.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Like we got a good editor. Yeah, that editor has
- 1:04:17fully seen me. But we do have a good editor
- 1:04:19who censored everything. So don't worry, you're getting the taste.
- 1:04:21There's some left up to the mystery.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: I ra it, tell us, tell us about what has
- 1:04:27evolved in your character in the season two, Like, what
- 1:04:29are we exciting to see about your character?
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I'm excited because it's just kind of it isn't a
- 1:04:35reflection of my own personal life. So like Liza in
- 1:04:37the show has gone on many or is going on dates,
- 1:04:41and like is going out and like ooh, she like
- 1:04:44taking of boys and stuff.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: I'm working on that in real life. I don't have
- 1:04:48any dating apps.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: I'm not your average millennial.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: But meeting people organically just going to coffee shops and
- 1:04:54just ordering from the barista.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: Like, hello, how are you go to coffee shops? No,
- 1:05:01I can't. I totally cant. I totally can.
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: It's really fun. Like I love meeting everybody that I
- 1:05:05run into a person.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: It's cool.
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: But yeah, I gotta try to find me a man
- 1:05:09in a coffee shop.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: But no, I head over to the coffee Starbucks on
- 1:05:14the broil.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: But but no, I I think for Eliza on the show,
- 1:05:19she's you know, she's romantically evolving and like allowing her
- 1:05:22or emotionally evolving and allowing herself to go on these
- 1:05:24days and like have fun. She is a little bit
- 1:05:28more established in her career, and so it's it's her
- 1:05:32becoming comfortable with what she's doing and and and being
- 1:05:36confident in what she's doing and there's more clarity for her.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Uh, she's just having fun. Like she's just like she
- 1:05:42like knows what she's up to now and she's like, Okay,
- 1:05:44now it's gonna.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: Like just go boss to the wall or overst to
- 1:05:48the wall. People with with with whatever she's doing. So
- 1:05:50she's just having fun.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: I love that fun.
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: I love that you mentioned career there is evolving. Do
- 1:05:56you feel like the show has helped you found like
- 1:05:57a newfound respect for like Uber drivers and postmait delivery
- 1:06:00people by playing the role Oh.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, thank you for your service everyone out there.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Yeah, literally, because those those are the those a connective
- 1:06:08tissue of my life, Postmates bringing me some food. It's
- 1:06:13crazy what we do, man, we hire personal assistance to
- 1:06:16these apps. We are so lazy and also the most
- 1:06:18hard working generation I know. Like right, little slapped to
- 1:06:23the face and then I'll give you a sport. Yeah,
- 1:06:25but like it's it's wild, like how we hire these
- 1:06:29people to do these do these jobs for us, for
- 1:06:32us to go about our day and it's insane, but
- 1:06:35they're I've always had the best uber conversations and I
- 1:06:38always like get to know them and they have many
- 1:06:41parts themselves too. So like a lot of people, I've
- 1:06:43seen like a printed IMDb sheet in the back of
- 1:06:47somebody's like Uber No, yeah, He's like, yeah, I booked
- 1:06:51a couple of jobs just by having my head shots
- 1:06:53here in the backseat, and like I was like, oh,
- 1:06:55that's cool. Ono. The woman had her daughter's headshots in
- 1:06:58the backseat, and the guy was selling his mixtape and
- 1:07:00I was like, yeah, respect, I'm not good bye, but.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Dollars. Yeah, you got an audio down. No one has
- 1:07:08a CD. I have a CD player for this.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: But but there's I mean, there's so many people and
- 1:07:13they're all out there hustling. So I appreciate, like thank
- 1:07:17them for what they do because I need them in
- 1:07:19my life.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: Yeah, what's your person for getting into character? Like I'm
- 1:07:22intrigued because you've played so many different characters in your
- 1:07:24own world that you explained you play this new character,
- 1:07:27like when I saw you win the streaming last year,
- 1:07:29Like your award acceptance speech is just the best. So
- 1:07:32if anyone's not seen her go and find the video
- 1:07:34on YouTube. It's up, and I'm going to give it
- 1:07:38away anyway, spoiler a lot. But Liza literally starts it off,
- 1:07:42and I was like, wow, she is so sweet and
- 1:07:45adorable and like you know she she was like getting emotional,
- 1:07:49she was crying for winning this award, and then she
- 1:07:51switches it on like the Assassin turns on, the kind
- 1:07:55of like the beast comes out beast. Yeah, And I
- 1:07:59loved and I was just like like, well, how do
- 1:08:02you get into character? Like what do you do? What's
- 1:08:04your process?
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Oh man, you're uh man, I'm trying to figure I'm
- 1:08:11not I'm not no, uh, daniel day Lewis.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: I'm not Danielle day Lewis.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I do not.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: I do not stay method and character or anything like that.
- 1:08:18But I was I guess you could say a little
- 1:08:20bit method this season in terms of my roommates who
- 1:08:25I cast last season a year ago, and I remember
- 1:08:29them stepping in and taking skype calls with them and
- 1:08:32like casting them, they became my roommates.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: In real life this year. No way, he go plan
- 1:08:38if you don't movie ou stuff out of my room.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: But she's still living with me to this day. At
- 1:08:42this moment.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: And and Travis Coles, who's also he also has an
- 1:08:46amazing show Alcohol David mixed Man over went for his network.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: I'm so excited for him.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and Miko two just they're two brilliant beasts. And
- 1:08:53I didn't know I was casting my roommates, my real roommates,
- 1:08:56let alone people who became my best friends, and like,
- 1:08:58I'm so lucky and that's ad too, but it was
- 1:09:00the same, like energetic energy. And I met them too,
- 1:09:04I'm just like, oh, yeah, yeah, you're gonna have to
- 1:09:06get used to you. You're gonna be around for a while.
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: So I put up with them.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: And by around, I mean they're right next door between
- 1:09:13the thin wall that I have. My house is structurally sound,
- 1:09:16we're doing well, but either are right next door in
- 1:09:19the other rooms. And we would go home every night,
- 1:09:22read our lines together, memorize together like candles, and like
- 1:09:27do squats in the same It was the most ridiculously
- 1:09:30la thing when I looked in my living room and
- 1:09:32we were running lines and doing squats and eating dinner
- 1:09:35together because we had to get it all done at once,
- 1:09:37because we shoot like fourteen pages a day, which is
- 1:09:40like a gnarly amount of content to make in one day.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: So it was just it was fun. It was really fun.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: It was really crazy. I don't have a family that's
- 1:09:48not off. That's not common, right, is it common for
- 1:09:51people who are on screen to go and become really
- 1:09:53really good friends in real life? I've heard from Yeah,
- 1:09:56what have you had? I'm intrigued. I mean I'm I'm friendly.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: I make friends with like I do my best Like, yeah,
- 1:10:03friends with But.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: I'm intrigued because you always wonder that, right, Like when
- 1:10:06you see on screen romance or chemistry and people are like, oh,
- 1:10:09I wish they were to get in real life and like,
- 1:10:11but even with friends, Like is that comedy? What have
- 1:10:13you heard? I've heard that that.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: No, it's a it's a lucky professional Yeah, serious fortunate events. Again,
- 1:10:19if if you become friends real life friends with your
- 1:10:23with your friends on screen, and so it helps the
- 1:10:25chemistry all the more too, like like we're on the clock,
- 1:10:29but we're also just like in the house just hanging out,
- 1:10:32and it's cool to like have that real life chemistry
- 1:10:36with them.
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: So I love hope it shows on.
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: No, And I think that's special. I definitely think that
- 1:10:40I think It's the same in sport, like if you're
- 1:10:42playing on a team and you don't if you're not
- 1:10:46really friends with the people you're playing with. I mean, like,
- 1:10:49you can do the right thing, but it makes a
- 1:10:51difference how much you're gonna enjoy when you score, how
- 1:10:53much you're gonna enjoy you know all of that. I
- 1:10:55think it affects the performance for sure, because you're gonna
- 1:10:57be there. How how long are you recording every day? Oh? Truth?
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: By the way, I was saying, yeah, all that, but
- 1:11:01I have no idea anything about sports.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: So I was just like, yeah, well you do. You
- 1:11:04just you just had the Nike thing, a Nike thing
- 1:11:07at VidCon that was awful. You were playing football soccer,
- 1:11:11You're playing real football.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: I was.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: I was, and it was an interesting take on it.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: I was like, he thinks I get this right now,
- 1:11:21he thinks I understand. Keep nodding your head, smile and wave,
- 1:11:23smile and wave.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: No.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: I I was so bad.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: I like, I had no idea how to play soccer before,
- 1:11:28and they didn't tell me I was playing a full game.
- 1:11:30I thought I was just doing warm ups. So I
- 1:11:32went into a for context. I went into a game
- 1:11:34of soccer at Nike or with Nike at VidCon, and
- 1:11:38just like I feel like.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: I was verd.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: I was really really.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: Especially because Courtney's so good soccer players.
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: And she was looking at me with, well, you know,
- 1:11:47you can't all be good at things, you know.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: No, But I think that's the point I was making
- 1:11:52sports aside was I do think that chemistry of real
- 1:11:56friendship shows on the screen, and I think that's beautiful
- 1:11:59because how many days I was asking how many hours
- 1:12:01are you filming per day?
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: We film?
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: When you're filming, how long does it take to create
- 1:12:06a little over.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: We'll go over twelve hours sometimes in one day. That's
- 1:12:09normal filming day in Hollywood and industry. It's like twelve hours.
- 1:12:13And then if you go over that, you go into
- 1:12:14overtime kind of.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Thing, and you're in your little trailer in between.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: No, not really, No, it's like I'm in most scenes.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: I jump from one scene, Okay, we wrap that scene,
- 1:12:23we'll go straight into the next area and film that.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: But it's twelve hours. You're spending twelve hours with these people.
- 1:12:28It's great, and they're your friends. Yep, it's really nice.
- 1:12:31You're nice. It's a little awkward, but no, I'm lucky.
- 1:12:34I'm lucky.
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: We had so many conversations off camera on set, so
- 1:12:37it was really cool.
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: I love that. I'm so excited to see how things
- 1:12:40are evolving and growing for you. I'm so glad that
- 1:12:43I've met you now and I've got to know you now.
- 1:12:45I'm like, yeah, I do wish I knew you were eighteen,
- 1:12:47but our Brown families didn't figure it out. But no,
- 1:12:51I'm glad that I've met you now because I'm just
- 1:12:53so excited to see everything you do. Like I just
- 1:12:55think you're going to have this incredible personal and professional
- 1:12:59life decades and decades and decades, and I'm just so
- 1:13:03excited to be your friend and be there with you
- 1:13:05throughout the journey and just see it just grow and
- 1:13:07excel even more and more and more. Like you're gonna
- 1:13:09do incredible things. And I think both from a professional
- 1:13:12point of view, but I think also from like the
- 1:13:14stuff you so effortlessly stand for. I think that's what's
- 1:13:18so powerful about is that you so effortlessly stand for
- 1:13:20things Like I saw your clean beauty thing recently, Oh
- 1:13:22thank you, and I was just like, you know, it's
- 1:13:24like I want you to talk about that, but I
- 1:13:25was just like when I saw that, I was just like,
- 1:13:26you're so effortlessly can stand for so many things because
- 1:13:30they're just a part of you rather than having to
- 1:13:31be an activist or how do you how do you
- 1:13:36see that responsibility that comes with having lots of yeah,
- 1:13:39following an audience versus like just doing what feels natural.
- 1:13:42How have you kind of balanced that?
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like activism or you know, whatever it
- 1:13:48may be, doesn't I support. I mean, anybody who is
- 1:13:51standing up for something just to do that alone is
- 1:13:53just courage and bravery and and self But for me,
- 1:13:56it's just more so like the way I was raised,
- 1:13:58the foundation I was raised, and you know, the morale
- 1:14:01that I was raised on, and being you know, eco
- 1:14:03friendly as much as as well as I possibly can.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: It's hard to do me.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: There's a lot of blasting it is.
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I love a good coaster, and like you.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Know, there's like there's there's many things that I appreciate
- 1:14:15and embody and hope to do that even with this
- 1:14:18clean beauty brand that is all natural ingredients, organic, Like
- 1:14:21the story behind that is that is what I'm looking
- 1:14:23forward to sharing even more. But like I had Eggsmo
- 1:14:25growing up and Molosco, which if you don't know what
- 1:14:27that is, yeah, everybody did. We had rough patches and
- 1:14:31like literal rough patches. We went through those rough patches
- 1:14:34and now we found found out like over time, after
- 1:14:36many like product dating and testing, you you figure out what.
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: Works for your skin.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: And some people are like, yeah, I just wash it
- 1:14:43with water and like you discuss me get out you
- 1:14:46saving so much money?
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: Damn you.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: But like you, I started using the same wand which
- 1:14:51was is the beauty brand and it's it's an amazing
- 1:14:53brand that just all natural ingredients. There's no animal testing,
- 1:14:57and like, I hope that's a revolution in the beauty
- 1:14:59industry too, just you know, switch over into this entirely
- 1:15:02vegan line. Everybody's worried about the vegan food they're consuming,
- 1:15:06what they're putting on the inside. What about the outside too,
- 1:15:09your skin that sits on your face. So so just
- 1:15:11to have that, I'm excited to embrace and encourage others
- 1:15:14and empower people to use you know, all that kind
- 1:15:17of veganism inside and out.
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I get that, although I'm not being and I will.
- 1:15:21I love some chicken. I love that No but it's
- 1:15:25it's awesome that I just I really, I really mean
- 1:15:28what I said, Like, I just think this is just
- 1:15:29the beginning, even though for you it probably feels like
- 1:15:34twenty three years right, it's like but it's like, it's
- 1:15:37like I just started yet. What do you mean? Yeah?
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you're like, why are you putting me back at
- 1:15:41the beginning? Do you understand what I've done?
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: No, And I don't mean in that way, it's all
- 1:15:45I really mean it in the sense of just like
- 1:15:47I think you're just gonna I think you're gonna have
- 1:15:49such a big impact on the world, and you already
- 1:15:52are in incredible ways, bigger than most people have already,
- 1:15:56and I'm just so excited to see it continue and
- 1:15:58grow and involve. And I just want you to know
- 1:15:59that right here as a friend and you know, here
- 1:16:01for you, you know, I want need to know that,
- 1:16:03Like I mean that, because yeah, you're special and it's
- 1:16:06going to be so so excited to watch for all
- 1:16:08of us. So I'm glad I get to witness.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: Thank you, like you have no idea, Like you say
- 1:16:13you're here for me, but you you've been here for me.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: You have no idea like, how how many times you
- 1:16:18have like saved me in that sense of falling into
- 1:16:21like a pit. So I thank you for that you
- 1:16:23were hand when you weren't even physically there. But hey,
- 1:16:26so follow him on Instagram if you need help.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: I don't want to see no more likes on Instagram.
- 1:16:32I want to phone calls.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: Yes, but I'm grateful.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: I'm grateful for you, man, and I'm excited for you.
- 1:16:38Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey.
- 1:16:40So I'm I'm so happy to be here.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: And so we end every interview with what I call
- 1:16:44the final five. This is the final five, quick fire,
- 1:16:47rapid fire around. I promise you there were no surprises,
- 1:16:49but I lied, Oh you did. Learning about bringing it
- 1:16:51a challenge excepted here we go. These are so you
- 1:16:54can answer max one word or one sentence. I know
- 1:16:56you're a queen of games, like way too long. You
- 1:16:59guys know a thing. So okay, So question number one,
- 1:17:02what's your weirdest habit?
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: Mm hm hmmm hmm my weirdest habit?
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: How much time do I have to?
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: Man, I think just life it's up.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: Maybe maybe it's oh, oh the way I eat.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: The left and right twigs.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: I bite off all the chocolate and then I stuck
- 1:17:25off the caramel, and then I eat the cookie inside.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: That's gross. I used to do this. Brown used to
- 1:17:32do this thing. I used to do with kit cats
- 1:17:34as well. I used to eat the surroundings and they
- 1:17:36need the top lay. Yeah. Yeah, it's the best way
- 1:17:39to eat twigs. I get it. You get to enjoy it.
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: You get to enjoy just the chocolate and just the caramel,
- 1:17:43and they're beautiful together.
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: I love it. Okay, Okay, So that's question number one.
- 1:17:47The second question, if you could invent your dream barbecue sauce,
- 1:17:50what would it be made of?
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: Oh my god, I was just talking about this earlier
- 1:17:54for uh uh in text mex I mean in Texas,
- 1:17:57we have text Max you as the perfect person.
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: This quitequestion.
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: In Texas, we have this for heat to meat that
- 1:18:03is marinated in pineapple and lime juice. This is not
- 1:18:05a one word answer, Oopsie's and so pineapple lime, some
- 1:18:10kind of tangy, sweet and sour sauce that also has
- 1:18:13a spicy kick at the end.
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: I think that would be it.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: So great.
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's good.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's great. Okay, do you want the name for it,
- 1:18:22or yeah, you can give me a name for it.
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: Curries buys.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: We put some kind of curry there. I love it.
- 1:18:28Something awesome. Question number three. This is actual. So who
- 1:18:36on your team is the one to tell you no?
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: Like me? Oh yeah, I recently just I didn't found
- 1:18:43out about this word.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: No, and and I started using it maybe when I
- 1:18:46was like twenty two, and I got really excited about it.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: Now I say no, I love it's awesome. Awesome. I
- 1:18:53had to ask you this because I saw this years
- 1:18:55ago before we knew each other, obviously because it was
- 1:18:57a while ago. But how does a bomb as smell like?
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: He just smells like like like really really clean laundry, Like.
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: He just did it.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: He washed that shirt over and over and over again,
- 1:19:10so that when someone did ask what did he smell like,
- 1:19:13he was like, they're going to say clean laundry.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he wanted.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: And also like like a little bit like like like
- 1:19:20a forest, like like like a mystical forest with like
- 1:19:22fog and like a deer like in the distance.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: You know, he's incredible.
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: That must have been what experience in credible an.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: Experience basically like a like a dryer sheet in the woods.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: That's what Obama's amazing. This is your fifth and final question.
- 1:19:41So you said you like love this quote. Success is
- 1:19:43going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm. So why
- 1:19:48that quote? Why is that quote so powerful for you? Oh?
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: I love that because I've and I think we all
- 1:19:53do sometimes with our self doubt and whatnot. We consider
- 1:19:56certain things or certain experiences or moments to be failures.
- 1:19:59And if you let that failure bring you down, sure
- 1:20:01you conspiral. And yes, I encourage you to lead into
- 1:20:03the feeling of whatever you're feeling. But if you if
- 1:20:06you allow that, if you won't let your won't let
- 1:20:09you yourself live that moment down, You're gonna just feel
- 1:20:13down forever, you know. And and so to not lose
- 1:20:17enthusiasm and to keep believing in yourself and have this
- 1:20:20quote unquote delusional confidence, then you can keep going. And
- 1:20:23that's what makes you successful is not letting those moments
- 1:20:27of failures define you, but just to keep going and
- 1:20:31believing that you have so much to say and you're
- 1:20:33going to keep saying it no matter what your mind
- 1:20:36says about you your mouth. I like to say that
- 1:20:38though recently I've discovered that your mind can either live
- 1:20:41in the past or the future, but your mouth lives
- 1:20:43in the present and it speaks true.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: That's so good. That is so good. Yeah, you need
- 1:20:51to post that. I'm working on that. Excited. So you're good.
- 1:20:56I love that.
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: It's a little cheerleading moment.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: Make you think you but like your your mouth speaks
- 1:21:01the truth and you're able to speak your reality.
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: My mind might be saying, oh, no, you're not doing
- 1:21:06well on the podcast right now.
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: You're not.
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: This isn't what you're saying is not profound enough for mister.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: No, my my mouth is saying a little bit of
- 1:21:13a stutter, but my mouth is saying, no, I have
- 1:21:15something important to say and I'm going to say it,
- 1:21:17and perhaps j will oo and he did and so
- 1:21:21he did.
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: So that's I love mine in the mouth.
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: That's such a powerful way of putting it. I've never
- 1:21:26had anyone say that. Yeah, that's amazing. No, you said
- 1:21:29so many things like I just first of all, I
- 1:21:31just want to say everyone's been listening and watching. There
- 1:21:33have been so many practical gems and like wisdom drops
- 1:21:39and you've given everyone like I'm going back to the
- 1:21:41ones that I've remembered, and there's a ton more and
- 1:21:43I want you guys to find them and share your
- 1:21:45favorite ones on Instagram and tag us both. But here
- 1:21:47are a few that stood out to me. Disarmed, don't
- 1:21:50defend or display disalm. Right, this is what Liza was
- 1:21:53telling us. When we meet someone, we can disarm the
- 1:21:55other person and disarm ourselves to be our best selves.
- 1:21:58Delusional confidence. Right as we was talking about like having
- 1:22:01the ability to just go beyond what we think is possible,
- 1:22:04and like being able to realize that there's an aspirational
- 1:22:07version of ourselves, you're hearing the mouth. I mean this
- 1:22:10mouth and mind is like blown my mind right now.
- 1:22:12Like I'm going to use that everyone quote you again
- 1:22:15and again. I'm going to put that and like just peak.
- 1:22:19You're watching my peak right now. Yah. I love that,
- 1:22:21Like I think it's such it's so much truth because
- 1:22:24we believe everything our mindsets, but if your mouth said
- 1:22:27something different, you could believe that and that could change
- 1:22:29your mind, like absolutely absolutely, And this is one you
- 1:22:33can hear out loud. So I love that. It's so
- 1:22:36many takeaways in this whole episode. Thank you, Lisa. We're
- 1:22:39so excited for Liza on Demand season two. I want
- 1:22:42everyone to go watch it on YouTube. It's it's going
- 1:22:45to be amazing, and I want everyone to watch it

- 1:23:00them some positive out there. Yeah, and that's what lies
- 1:23:02on and demands doing in a bigger, better way.

- 1:23:10saying it is Literally I was.
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: Listening to one on the way here.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: I was prepping myself for you know, That's how I
- 1:23:14get into character, so I study the character I'm about
- 1:23:16to sit across the table with.
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: But nice.
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but thank you.

- 1:23:24tell you. Is there anything that I didn't let you
- 1:23:26talk about today that you'd love to share or anything
- 1:23:28you like really wanted to sheds but you didn't let
- 1:23:30me or I didn't get one? Oh nah, shared?
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: More like I legitimately like shared more than I thought I.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: Was going to amazing Okay. I wanted to ask you
