- 0:01For the vast majority of individuals, the idea of
- 0:05confronting the vast Consciousness without any
- 0:08discernible or identifiable, form is overwhelming, anything
- 0:14that is undefined or unlimited breeds discomfort and fear in
- 0:19our being. In the bhagavad-gita Arjuna is
- 0:24confronted with a vision of the Divine in a vast all-powerful
- 0:28form, far beyond what he was prepared to handle.
- 0:32He begged SRI Krishnan to return to his normal four-armed form
- 0:38and to shower Grace upon him. Fewer, those who can confront
- 0:43the larger forms of the universal creation, much less
- 0:47the vast formless reality. when our hearts and Minds, turn
- 0:53towards spiritual growth, we therefore seek out and Associate
- 0:57ourselves with some specific form of deity or specific
- 1:02manifestation of the Divine in form or at the very least with
- 1:07intermediaries, teachers gurus who provide us a close and
- 1:13defined relationship with the divine This allows us to grow
- 1:18and mature in our spiritual understanding over time within
- 1:22defined limits that we have set at each stage of our growth.
- 1:26Not every individual follows, the same form of God or the same
- 1:31Incarnation or the same teacher yet as a general rule, each
- 1:37individual aligns with someone or something that can Aid us in
- 1:41our growth. Even the atheist who denies the
- 1:45existence It's of God find some object or person with whom, he
- 1:50aligned himself in his own path of growth.
- 1:53Meanwhile we cast our teachers as avatars or incarnations of
- 1:58God and in many cases believe and act upon that belief.
- 2:04That the Divinity we worship the teacher we follow is the highest
- 2:09Divinity and ultimate World teacher.
- 2:13What we then fail to recognize is that the form the Divine
- 2:17guidance takes for each of us is unique to our own personal.
- 2:22Background and religious or spiritual tradition.
- 2:28Thus, a Christian will have visions of Jesus or Mary while a
- 2:33Hindu may experience the presence of Lord Krishna or
- 2:37Lord, Shiva. This does not set one deity
- 2:40above another, but simply represents the form that the
- 2:45specific individual based on his background and experiential
- 2:49mindset can see and understand. SRI aurobindo notes, quote, the
- 2:57spiritual progress of most human beings demands and extraneous
- 3:01support an object of Faith outside us.
- 3:05It needs an external image of God or it needs a human
- 3:10representative. Incarnation profit were Guru or
- 3:15a demands both and receives them for according to the need of the
- 3:20human soul, the Divine manifests himself, Has deity as human
- 3:25Divine or in simple Humanity using that thick disguise.
- 3:32Which so successfully conceals the godhead for a means of
- 3:36transmission of his guidance. The Hindu discipline of
- 3:40spirituality provides for this need of the sold, by the
- 3:44conceptions of the ishta, devatha the Avatar, and the guru
- 3:50by the ishta, devatha, The Chosen deity is meant, not some
- 3:54inferior power, but a name and form of the Transcendent and
- 3:58Universal godhead. Almost all religions either have
- 4:03as their base or make use of some such name and form of the
- 4:06Divine, its necessity for the human soul, is evident, God is
- 4:12the all and more than the all, but that which is more than the
- 4:16all. How shall men conceive?
- 4:20And even the all is it first too hard for him?
- 4:23For he himself in his act of Consciousness, is a limited and
- 4:27selective formation and can open himself only to that, which is
- 4:32in harmony with his limited nature.
- 4:37There are things in the all which are too hard for his
- 4:39comprehension or seem too terrible to his sensitive
- 4:43emotions and cowering Sensations.
- 4:47We're simply he cannot conceive as the Divine cannot approach or
- 4:52cannot recognize something that is too much out of the circle of
- 4:56his ignorant or partial conceptions.
- 5:00It is necessary for him to conceive God in his own image,
- 5:04or in some form that is beyond himself.
- 5:07But consonant, With His Highest Tendencies and feasible by his
- 5:13feelings or his intelligence Otherwise it would be difficult
- 5:18for him to come into contact and communion with the Divine and
