- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities CE OS and even royalty Adam Cox, these
- 0:21recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's world
- 0:24famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39It's Adam here. Now.
- 0:41Have you ever? Felt worried about.
- 0:43Judgement. And that might be the kind of
- 0:46judgement of if you're in a busy room and everyone's talking, you
- 0:50feel like you can't get up and leave.
- 0:52Or if you're. Going to be interviewed on radio
- 0:55or TV or for a high profile podcast.
- 0:58You might be in your head wondering what are people going
- 1:00to? Think or.
- 1:01If you're invited to do a speech or a presentation, you might be
- 1:05worried about who am I to be doing that and are other people
- 1:09in the room going to be judging me?
- 1:11If any of these things resonate for you, you might get some
- 1:14value from this session. Because at its crux, it is all
- 1:18about the fear of judgement. And the antidote to fear of
- 1:23judgement quite often is self acceptance.
- 1:25That if you accept yourself 100%, that fear of judgement
- 1:29isn't there because you've already reconciled every single
- 1:32part of you. And here's a really useful way
- 1:37to think about shame or feelings of criticism.
- 1:42That if the shame or criticism has validity, then the goal is
- 1:49not to make that emotion go away.
- 1:51The goal is to make a change within your life and become
- 1:54better in that particular area. The caveat, though, is if it's
- 1:59valid. That's difficult to do.
- 2:02If you have perfectionism standards and therefore nothing
- 2:08feels like it's good enough, in which case you're going to have
- 2:10lots of shame, lots of unworthiness, simply because
- 2:13your standards are misaligned. But if your standards are
- 2:17reasonable and you say no, I'm capable here, I try hard here,
- 2:21you know I'm a good person, and then you're feeling all of this
- 2:25fear of judgement, then either self acceptance is going to be
- 2:29really really helpful, or if these things are valid, to
- 2:33create a desire to become a better version of you.
- 2:36Not a bad thing. The idea that we are all perfect
- 2:40and all incapable of any kind of improvements is quite frankly
- 2:45ludicrous. But the fact that you can
- 2:48improve and get better does not mean that you are unacceptable
- 2:52as you are. The best way to change is to
- 2:55feel good enough with a desire to become even better.
- 2:59Now, this particular client would find themselves in
- 3:01situations where they felt confined or trapped or judged,
- 3:06and they had a feeling of getting hot and sweaty and
- 3:10flustered and finding it difficult to talk.
- 3:13Now, that's not great if you're in social situations and social
- 3:17situations that you feel you can't leave.
- 3:20So we do two things here. One, there's lots of kind of
- 3:24relaxation techniques, but we want to work with the part that
- 3:29is trying to protect them by thinking of worst case scenarios
- 3:31and turn that from a protector that is scaremongering to a
- 3:35protector that is reassuring. And then a future pacing that to
- 3:40actually imagine those scenarios that were triggering and have
- 3:43those scenarios that are more comforting.
- 3:46It starts with a regression to a time where this was a very
- 3:49successful client that was featured on TV and a big award
- 3:54ceremonies, but quite often felt like they're an imposter, that
- 3:57they shouldn't be there. But there was a time at a
- 4:00celebrity birthday party where they were introduced to very
- 4:04high profile people and just felt like they belonged, that
- 4:06they felt, of course, they deserve to be there.
- 4:09That's an excellent resource state to harness for these
- 4:12different contexts. OI would encourage you to think
- 4:15about an area of your life where you feel that you aren't quite
- 4:19good enough, that you're as scared or fearful of being
- 4:22judged, and that way you'll get more from this session.
- 4:25It was created for an individual.
- 4:28Some of the suggestions were perfect for them.
- 4:30They may not be relevant for you.
- 4:32So if you do want something customized and bespoke, I would
- 4:35encourage you to look at the link in the description.
- 4:39Or you can check out my website, adamcox.co.uk and there you will
- 4:43find a link to book a free consultation called on Zoom.
- 4:46We'll have a chat and who knows, we might end up working
- 4:49together. For now, though, find a quiet,
- 4:52comfortable place where you won't be distracted or
- 4:54disturbed. Relax.
- 4:56And enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 5:25you breathe in, breathe in that resourceful feeling of calm and
- 5:30relaxation. And as you exhale, give
- 5:34permission to release any tension, any worries, any fears
- 5:45of judgement or not doing it right.
- 5:51Breathe in the resources that you need and exhale any
- 5:57limitations that are no longer useful for you.
- 6:07And I want you to think of a colour.
- 6:12A colour that represents pure self acceptance.
- 6:20Not partial, but pure. And as you breathe in, imagine
- 6:26breathing in that colour of distilled self acceptance.
- 6:34And as you exhale, what if now is the time to release any of
- 6:44those old beliefs that aren't even true?
- 6:54Some people are haunted by an idea that they're not quite
- 6:59enough, not educated enough, not experienced enough.
- 7:06But it's a mirage. Whenever you feel enough, enough
- 7:12gets further away. Where is that pure self
- 7:17acceptance says I am enough right now.
- 7:25So breathe in that colour of pure distilled self acceptance
- 7:32and release all of those perceptions of inadequacies.
- 7:39Release them. See them as a dark grey cloud
- 7:43leaving your body in that outward breath.
- 7:50Consider this an emotional transfusion, breathing in what
- 7:58you need and exhaling what you don't.
- 8:04Each breath takes you deeper and deeper, relaxed.
- 8:10And interestingly, the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed
- 8:14you feel. The more relaxed you feel, the
- 8:18deeper you breathe and the and all your mind accepts that pure
- 8:26self acceptance. As your body relaxes, your
- 8:32imagination awakens, and I want you to imagine.
- 8:39A cottage. By the coast thatched roof.
- 8:47Centuries of history, a connection with something
- 8:53authentic. Real generations of people that
- 8:59knew who they were and who they weren't.
- 9:08Generations of people that had no need pretending to be
- 9:14something they're not. They accepted it and they the
- 9:19quality of life was enhanced by being exactly who they are.
- 9:30And I want you to imagine finding a bed in that cottage
- 9:37that feels like peace, tranquility, and just imagine
- 9:46continuing to breathe in that distilled self acceptance,
- 9:50exhaling any limitations. Each breath takes you sinking
- 9:56into that bed deeper and deeper down, enhancing neural
- 10:06plasticity, where sometimes all it takes is 1 distinction, 1
- 10:17refinement to a belief and identity.
- 10:23And everything changes. And sometimes when one thing
- 10:28changes, it can't go back to how it was before.
- 10:38So let's work with the parts within you to create a useful,
- 10:48beneficial change. Because you already know how to
- 10:57feel calm, relaxed and connected.
- 11:04And what if there's just certain places, environments, where you
- 11:13feel that you have to be on edge, on guard, judged in some
- 11:25way? And the paradox is, if judgement
- 11:34is a threat, your nervous system will act as if that threat is
- 11:41real, like a child too scared to look at the monster under the
- 11:48bed because there's a monster under the bed.
- 11:55But isn't it fascinating that when they finally have the
- 11:59courage to look, of course the monster disappears?
- 12:08And there's a part within you that is keen to not avoid being
- 12:17judged, but embrace being judged because someone with full self
- 12:25acceptance is immune to judgement.
- 12:31If a stranger came up to you, I tried to mock you for being
- 12:39blue, it wouldn't make you feel bad.
- 12:47You're not blue, and even if you were, you would have accepted
- 12:55that you are blue. And by looking it through that
- 13:02lens of absurdity, I wonder how many other things are equally
- 13:09absurd. You don't deserve recognition.
- 13:16Perhaps it's more absurd you haven't earned your place
- 13:24despite decades of dedication, work and learning and wisdom.
- 13:30Isn't that more absurd? So as you breathe in that self
- 13:38acceptance, consider it immunity.
- 13:46That's it. Taking yourself deeper and
- 13:51deeper. Relaxed.
- 13:54Deeper relaxed you become, the more receptive your mind is to
- 13:59wonderful change. And perhaps you can drift back
- 14:06to a memory, a time when you felt like you belonged.
- 14:16Maybe it was the kind of place where famous, all those people
- 14:25held in high regard. We were around and you were
- 14:31there. And I want you to drift back to
- 14:35that memory and just feel how comfortable you felt accepting
- 14:41who you are, feeling like you belonged in that environment.
- 14:49I want you to feel that that environment and feel like a
- 14:57comfortable pair of shoes that you've worn many times.
- 15:03Observe yourself first. See that version of you.
- 15:08You were not smaller and not intimidated, just that
- 15:16enthusiasm, excitement, engagement, breathe the way you
- 15:22brought back then and then step into that version of you
- 15:29associate, see through your own eyes, remember what it felt
- 15:34like, feel the temperature and notice your posture.
- 15:40And there was energy there, but it wasn't anxiety, mindfulness,
- 15:47activation, confidence and just allow that feeling to grow
- 15:52stronger. Now, internally you can turn up
- 15:56the brightness, turn up the clarity instead of who am I to
- 16:03be here? Really connect with the idea
- 16:07that why wouldn't I be here? Turn up that sense of belonging.
- 16:16And even if you were introduced to someone, you would feel just
- 16:24as calm as speaking to someone you've known for years.
- 16:31People are just people, not better, not worse, just people.
- 16:40So connect with the idea that wherever you are, whether you're
- 16:48at an award ceremony on TV, introduced to high profile
- 16:58people, you're not there by accident.
- 17:05You're there because smart, dedicated people thought that it
- 17:13made sense for you to be there because you belong there.
- 17:20So allow that idea to take root like a sapling with time lapse
- 17:30speeded up. Imagine the roots getting deeper
- 17:35and that idea flourishing. Feeling deserving of belonging
- 17:44is not location dependent, it's who you are at your very core.
- 17:55And maybe there's that feeling of of course I belong here, of
- 18:01course I can handle this. Maybe it's in your chest, your
- 18:05shoulders, your heart, your breath.
- 18:10Just imagine that sensation and amplify it.
- 18:15Maybe it expands beyond the realms of your physical body,
- 18:21like an aura, a field around you.
- 18:24And what if this is what composure with activation feels
- 18:30like? Or maybe recall a time when you
- 18:34were being interviewed outside on TV.
- 18:40You knew your topic, you felt credible, You felt all of that
- 18:48space. These neural pathways don't
- 18:53disappear just because you're inside A room.
- 19:00So amplify that composure and then do something.
- 19:07Maybe wiggle your toes or have a long outward breath, something
- 19:14that you'd be able to do in any situation to connect with this
- 19:20feeling. Nobody else would know that long
- 19:25outward breath or wiggling of toes, but that's what makes it
- 19:30work. A discreet trigger that you can
- 19:36activate whenever you want to feel this way.
- 19:44And I want you to imagine going down into a living area in that
- 19:50cottage. And I want you to invite
- 19:56different parts of your spectrum of personalities.
- 20:04Just imagine there's a a bus, a long bus.
- 20:09One driving seat, but over 100 passenger seats.
- 20:16And somewhere, somewhere in that bus is a part that has been
- 20:22trying to protect you. Alert you, warn you of danger.
- 20:29But invite them off the bus to sit down on a sofa or a chair.
- 20:39Invite the protector. Thank it it's always trying to
- 20:47help. And ask that part if it was
- 20:53trying to protect, trying to help you.
- 20:56And if that part nods, then let me know by nodding too.
- 21:12That's it, and you can thank it's wonderful intention, but I
- 21:19want you to share some feedback with that part.
- 21:25Think of a time that it tried to warn you by saying this would be
- 21:31the absolute worst time to feel panicked, anxious, trapped.
- 21:39And that feeling of how you felt in that moment of feeling of
- 21:42being on fire, confined, limited, judged, projected from
- 21:50you to that part that was trying to help.
- 21:56Didn't realize that by helping in that way you were feeling
- 22:01that way. And if that part, the protector
- 22:08is now aware that by helping in that way, they were contributing
- 22:15to the very anxiety that made things worse, maybe their facial
- 22:21expression changes, Maybe ashamed, remorseful, apologetic.
- 22:30And if you can see the change, let me know by nodding your
- 22:34head. And I want you to forgive that
- 22:47part because the intention was good, but I want you to let that
- 22:55part know that you want their assistance.
- 23:01You're not going to exile them. You want to work with them.
- 23:06They are clearly influential and clearly care about you.
- 23:12I want you to ask the part, not tell the part if they would be
- 23:18willing to help you and protect you through reassurance and
- 23:25encouragement, not warnings and fear mongering.
- 23:34Tell that part what it would be like.
- 23:37Reassurance would be it's just a conversation.
- 23:44You deserve this, You belong here.
- 23:49And notice how hard it is to feel anxious when you feel that
- 23:52you deserve it, that you belong, that everything is OK.
- 24:01Paradoxically, with reassurance, you are being protected even
- 24:07more than the warning. And if that part is willing to
- 24:16keep the intention but execute through reassurance and
- 24:21encouragement, then you might see a change in them, how they
- 24:28look, their expressions, their role.
- 24:30Maybe they take more pride, feel more significant.
- 24:36Just try it by stepping into that part and feel what you
- 24:42would feel if you were the protector, protecting through
- 24:47encouragement and reassurance. And then imagine a situation but
- 24:55in the past triggered that anxiety or change in body
- 25:02temperature. Imagine you are now that voice,
- 25:08but instead of saying this would be the worst possible time to
- 25:16you might reframe it then. This is the ideal time to feel
- 25:23proud. This is the ideal time to meet
- 25:28someone new. You deserve this.
- 25:32You belong here. When you play the role of the
- 25:36protector through reassurance, you'll know if that common
- 25:45anxiety is now elusive. And if it feels elusive, let me
- 25:53know by nodding your head. Let's test it out.
- 26:11I want you to imagine it's three months from now and just imagine
- 26:18you're in a big, big hall somewhere near the front.
- 26:26Maybe there's a presentation. It's people around you and that
- 26:32voice is saying you belong here, you're relaxed.
- 26:40If you want to leave, you can. You have just as much freedom as
- 26:47if you were at the back and there was an open door if you
- 26:50were at the front and there's a closed door.
- 26:56And if that feels easier to relax there, amplify it and then
- 27:04breathe in that way. Or wiggle your toes and feel
- 27:07calm, composed. Feel a sense that you are just
- 27:17as free as if you are outside in a large garden.
- 27:25It's all relative compared to being trapped in a tiny box.
- 27:33A room is spacious. A closed door is not a locked
- 27:39door. Feel that your mind is
- 27:45reassuring you with all the options that you have, rather
- 27:52than the limitations that are impeding you.
- 27:56And whether it was a fear of judgement, embarrassment, a loss
- 28:05of control, go back to that feeling where you feel you can
- 28:14handle any of it. So let's change what if to even
- 28:26if. I want you to Imagine you're on
- 28:31a comfy chair looking at a screen, and I want you to
- 28:37imagine seeing yourself on that screen.
- 28:45But that back seat protector telling you what could go
- 28:52horribly wrong is now your guardian, your reassurer.
- 29:02And on that screen, imagine yourself in a big seminar, doors
- 29:09closed, room warm. But that voice has changed from
- 29:19what if to even if. Even if I feel warm or hot, I
- 29:29remain composed. Even if someone looks at me or
- 29:34judges me, who cares? Even if my face flushes
- 29:40slightly, in the big scheme of things it's nothing.
- 29:48And even if I feel activation, a heightened sense, I can direct
- 29:57it and release it. And what if the even if evolves
- 30:06either now or later? So the what if becomes I hope
- 30:16instead of What if. The TV interview is inside, you
- 30:24say I hope it's inside. By having the experience of
- 30:30feeling relaxed inside. The monster under the bed
- 30:34disappears. I hope the door closes because
- 30:42even just once feeling composed, all of this disappears.
- 30:55Feel like you're planting seeds of new ideas, and it's the job
- 31:01of your unconscious mind to incubate, germinate, and help
- 31:10those seeds grow into ideas that become convictions, crowding out
- 31:16any of the old ideas that just don't serve you anymore.
- 31:24If a parent told you that you couldn't do anything without
- 31:28qualifications, at what point in your life was that assertion
- 31:39disproved? How many decades ago?
- 31:45Things change, so allow your mind to update its operating
- 31:53system to keep what's good and let go of anything that no
- 32:00longer serves you. And I want you to imagine
- 32:07yourself a year from now at a big award ceremony.
- 32:14I just imagine that version of you confidently, calmly, perhaps
- 32:21accepting an award or giving a small speech, Calm, composed,
- 32:29relaxed. That's where these seeds are
- 32:34heading to a future like that. And as you hold that thought,
- 32:41it's time to return all the way back to the here and the now.
- 32:47So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 32:52nose. Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your
- 32:55toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 32:57here and the now as I count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 33:03Starting to count 123 Waking up 456 More alert 7-8.
- 33:12Open your eyes. Open your eyes, 910.
- 33:16Wide awake, Wide awake, wide awake.
