- 0:29Speaker 2: Hey, everybody, welcome to Conspiracy the Show. I'm your host,
- 0:36Speaker 2: Adam Todd Brown. My guests this week are already losing
- 0:40Speaker 2: their ship. I don't know why. I don't. It's not
- 0:44Speaker 2: like anything. It's not like anything happened the first time
- 0:48Speaker 2: we tried to start this podcast. Jessica didn't almost stupid
- 0:52Speaker 2: start an electrical fire with her laptop or anything.
- 0:57Speaker 1: It wasn't even that much water.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Hey, I don't have a co host this week, but
- 1:02Speaker 2: like I said, a couple of guests, my co hosts
- 1:05Speaker 2: from the trend Pony podcast, which you can hear on
- 1:07Speaker 2: the un Pop's Patreon and super cast clickity clack cleckity
- 1:11Speaker 2: clack nay, Jessica Singer and Jen Scott say hello everybody.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Hello, everybody, love you.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Oh man, I think I think the adrenaline from me
- 1:25Speaker 3: spilling water made my edible hit oh.
- 1:28Speaker 2: That's very possible. Well, given the subject matter this week,
- 1:33Speaker 2: it's a good time for your edible to.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Hit oh for sure.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Because we're definitely we're talking about a documentary, a very
- 1:42Speaker 2: fun documentary, sort of fun, it gets dark at times
- 1:46Speaker 2: I would.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Say a good documentary, I wouldn't call it.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Parts of it are fun, parts of it are fun,
- 1:51Speaker 3: fucking fun.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought it was aggressively fun. I think it's
- 1:58Speaker 1: fucking fun fun from Chicago.
- 2:05Speaker 5: Maybe Sas go way back the Squatch.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so we're talking about a documentary series on Hulu
- 2:16Speaker 2: called Sasquatch. Three episodes around forty five minutes each, not
- 2:19Speaker 2: too unwieldy.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Can I just say I was so pleased when I Okay,
- 2:23Speaker 5: So I thought it was gonna be a movie, and
- 2:25Speaker 5: then I saw docu series and I was like, God,
- 2:26Speaker 5: damn it. And then I saw it was only three episodes,
- 2:28Speaker 5: and I was like, hell, yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That is okay.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that's something that was layered enough where it needed
- 2:36Speaker 3: more than one episode.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I don't know that it needed all three.
- 2:40Speaker 3: It could have been two. The last two could have
- 2:42Speaker 3: been edited into one.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think it may be maybe it could.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Have been a two hour feature easily.
- 2:49Speaker 2: But you gotta expect that these days, everyone wants a
- 2:52Speaker 2: series to a Duplas Brothers documentary, So that's a positive sign.
- 2:56Speaker 4: They were always try for them.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I also heard recently that they nice to work with.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I could see that and that makes me happy?
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah good if so?
- 3:06Speaker 3: So.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, when the.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Time I was on set with Mark Duplas and he
- 3:09Speaker 5: was reading a hardcover book the entire.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Time, that's right.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Wow, I was like.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Mad props, Like he was so into just whatever he
- 3:18Speaker 5: was doing.
- 3:18Speaker 4: It was fabulous.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So this documentary is about an investigative journalist named David
- 3:25Speaker 2: hold House. Uh what did everyone think of David hold House?
- 3:28Speaker 1: I really liked him.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I also liked the reveal as to why he got
- 3:34Speaker 3: into investigative journalism that was way later, the thing that
- 3:36Speaker 3: happened to when he was a kid. Right, it was
- 3:39Speaker 3: a twist I was not expecting. That made everything make
- 3:41Speaker 3: way more sense.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I really liked David.
- 3:43Speaker 5: I thought they did a really good job of establishing
- 3:46Speaker 5: that we as the audience, believe him to be a
- 3:48Speaker 5: sane like variable, you know what I mean. Like we're like, Okay,
- 3:52Speaker 5: this guy gets it, and we think he's a little crazy,
- 3:56Speaker 5: but it's all to prove a point.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Well, he's also a really good like investigator, Like he
- 4:01Speaker 3: always leaves when he asks people questions about things, he
- 4:04Speaker 3: always leaves holes in it to make sure that they're
- 4:07Speaker 3: both actually talking about the same e That yeah. I
- 4:09Speaker 3: really like that where he's like, I'll never name the
- 4:11Speaker 3: exact date of something when asking about it.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I appreciate that he's very objective about it. He's not
- 4:20Speaker 2: chasing one theory and just hoping that that theory is
- 4:24Speaker 2: going to be true. Like he actually peels back the
- 4:27Speaker 2: layers of this because it's a crazy story.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Yes, and it's something that he experienced. And did they
- 4:33Speaker 3: ever go over because okay, so it starts.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Can I say, yeah, fall set the scene, it's Fall
- 4:41Speaker 2: nineteen ninety three.
- 4:42Speaker 4: I's an automatic recreation. I like the animation.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I did too. I thought they did a really good
- 4:50Speaker 1: job style wise.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I like the disclaimer at the beginning that some of
- 4:53Speaker 2: the interactions were recreated. It's like, you weren't talking about
- 4:57Speaker 2: the animation, I hope, because I picked up that that's
- 4:59Speaker 2: not what happened.
- 5:01Speaker 4: This animation didn't happen in real life. Just seeing it.
- 5:05Speaker 3: And it's like Fall of ninety three and he's going
- 5:08Speaker 3: up to northern California in Mendocino County, which is part
- 5:12Speaker 3: of the Emerald Triangle that grows all the weeds right
- 5:15Speaker 3: after the height of the War on Drugs, and it's
- 5:19Speaker 3: like where all the weed farms are that are really
- 5:22Speaker 3: great and really terrible.
- 5:25Speaker 2: See, I feel like you're already condensing this in the
- 5:28Speaker 2: way the documentary should have, Like exactly all you need
- 5:32Speaker 2: is after the height of the War on drugs, the
- 5:34Speaker 2: War on d Yeah, yeah, that was unnecessary.
- 5:37Speaker 1: But we know about the war on drugs.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, we don't.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Maybe we don't.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Gen Z you know about it. They know more than
- 5:46Speaker 1: we do with some of that.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah, anyway, go on.
- 5:50Speaker 3: But and there's I just don't know if they ever
- 5:54Speaker 3: went over if he was weed farming, it must have
- 5:56Speaker 3: been for another article.
- 5:57Speaker 1: He must have been investigating something, right.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Yeah, But he did say that he did a little
- 6:02Speaker 2: work on the farm, like the day after he got there,
- 6:05Speaker 2: so he was he was there to work, but also
- 6:07Speaker 2: clearly there for a potential article.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I go how farming jobs go. It's just kind
- 6:14Speaker 4: of like I'm around, well.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and like you're gonna pick up some sketchy shit.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I'm sure he was like I'll see something and I'll
- 6:20Speaker 3: write about it while.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I'm here too, yeaeah.
- 6:23Speaker 3: And then a guy busts in who's all methed out
- 6:26Speaker 3: and is like sasquatch just pulled apart three men up
- 6:30Speaker 3: at this other fucking place.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Yes, it's like that's the beginning, right, that sets the stage.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that is he's basically everything you said he's he's
- 6:39Speaker 2: at this weed farm where he's been either working or
- 6:41Speaker 2: doing journalist work. And these dudes bust in and go
- 6:47Speaker 2: up to the boss of this place and they're like,
- 6:49Speaker 2: three dudes are dead. We saw the body's bigfoot, did it?
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're scared very like.
- 6:55Speaker 3: I felt like that was a really important part of
- 6:56Speaker 3: it too, like they seem terrified and methed out. And
- 7:01Speaker 3: I also thought it was interesting that he's like, I
- 7:03Speaker 3: do not tell this story because it's so steady.
- 7:06Speaker 5: It was like I never wrote about this because it
- 7:09Speaker 5: like actually fucking scared me.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah that, I mean that's gonna unnerve any person just
- 7:14Speaker 2: being in the room when two other people come in
- 7:17Speaker 2: and go, hey, I found three people murdered nearby.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Not only murdered, ripped apart.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:23Speaker 5: I thought also that this part was funny when they
- 7:26Speaker 5: were like establishing the woods and they were trying to
- 7:28Speaker 5: make like these beautiful, gorgeous northern California woods that are
- 7:31Speaker 5: like so majestic look horrifying, and I was loving it.
- 7:34Speaker 5: I was like, I was like, this is seriously one
- 7:36Speaker 5: of the prettiest places in the world, and they're like.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Show them no trust passing side it is.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I've driven through Humble and like that.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Yeah, all weed farm farms, of course, no truspassing.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Yeah, but like the redwood, Like they talk about how
- 7:50Speaker 3: giant and dense the trees are, and it's like not
- 7:54Speaker 3: an exaggeration like.
- 7:55Speaker 4: When a corrifier.
- 7:56Speaker 1: True, do not know where you are.
- 7:58Speaker 3: If you go in there spinning three times, You're not
- 8:00Speaker 3: gonna know where the fuck you came from.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah, Like yeah, and it is. It's a sketchier area
- 8:06Speaker 2: than people give it credit for. It's very pretty, but
- 8:09Speaker 2: sometimes you can get murdered in pretty areas too.
- 8:12Speaker 3: It always kind of reminded me of o Hi, which
- 8:15Speaker 3: was like my little area's version of that, where it's like, wow,
- 8:17Speaker 3: it's so beautiful. Wait, there's hippies and races here.
- 8:22Speaker 2: It's weird.
- 8:24Speaker 4: California just be like that sometimes so strange.
- 8:27Speaker 1: NIC's weird.
- 8:29Speaker 5: But also I was like, immediately when they said the
- 8:33Speaker 5: Emerald Triangle, I was.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Like, oh, I've worked with people from up there.
- 8:38Speaker 5: People from up there will like be the nicest people
- 8:42Speaker 5: in the world to you. But also they will say
- 8:44Speaker 5: crazy shit like it is absolutely nothing. Yeah, like yeah,
- 8:50Speaker 5: it's just that's just how everyone is up there. So
- 8:52Speaker 5: I was like, oh, okay, this is where we are.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Got it well, And Jen, you were talking to me
- 8:57Speaker 1: about this too.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Is like whenever they talk whenever we people from up
- 9:00Speaker 3: there talk about their weed land, they're always like.
- 9:02Speaker 5: They talk about the land forever, the land and how
- 9:05Speaker 5: they fought, how they got the land, and all the
- 9:08Speaker 5: things they've had to do to keep the land. And
- 9:10Speaker 5: that is usually what they'll tell you in the first
- 9:13Speaker 5: five minutes of meeting them.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 2: So he's at this farm, this incident happens, and now
- 9:20Speaker 2: he starts hearing all these stories about sasquatch and sasquatch
- 9:25Speaker 2: and bigfoot type creatures just like harassing the shit out
- 9:30Speaker 2: of farmers all around the area. And it turns out
- 9:34Speaker 2: to be an important detail that he starts hearing those
- 9:36Speaker 2: stories after this killing happens. But that's that's for much
- 9:40Speaker 2: later in the documentary. So this documentary is basically about
- 9:44Speaker 2: him investigating this story. It's a story that he's been
- 9:48Speaker 2: sitting on for a couple of decades.
- 9:51Speaker 3: And like the first episode is all Sasquatch based, and
- 9:54Speaker 3: it's like finding the history of Sasquatch and people that
- 9:57Speaker 3: have seen sasquatch and showing all the footage in the.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's it does I think that episode does it,
- 10:04Speaker 2: or the first episode does a good job of kind
- 10:07Speaker 2: of explaining why it's not that crazy that Yeah, this
- 10:11Speaker 2: one was a Sasquatch that did it, why it's reasonable
- 10:14Speaker 2: that it would have happened where it did.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it reminded me it was more logical, but reminded
- 10:21Speaker 3: me of watching this Flat Earth or stock I watched
- 10:24Speaker 3: where they're just like I think we've talked about it actually,
- 10:28Speaker 3: but they're just like, this is the way it is
- 10:30Speaker 3: and this is why it makes sense.
- 10:32Speaker 2: And yeah, you know.
- 10:34Speaker 3: And I did text Jen when I was watching it
- 10:37Speaker 3: that I loved the life partners that believed in Sasquatch.
- 10:41Speaker 2: They were amazing the highlight.
- 10:43Speaker 1: They were the highlight of the whole doc for me.
- 10:45Speaker 1: They were really cute.
- 10:46Speaker 3: He was like, you believe the Sasquatch like teleports Like, no,
- 10:50Speaker 3: I don't, and they're just so cute.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah. They were really fighting about whether Sasquatch is a
- 10:55Speaker 2: real thing or like an alien or a supernatural Yeah.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Like what type of sci fi entity sasquatch would fall
- 11:01Speaker 5: fall under, like what powers they have? And also I
- 11:05Speaker 5: thought it was very different that each group of Sasquatch
- 11:08Speaker 5: people talked about sasquatch differently. Yeah, Like I was like, wow,
- 11:14Speaker 5: what a creative thing to believe it.
- 11:17Speaker 3: My other favorite guy from the first one is the
- 11:22Speaker 3: guy that had the footage of sasquatch from nineteen sixty seven,
- 11:26Speaker 3: the Cowboy guy.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah, the Patterson was yeah, and he.
- 11:30Speaker 3: And he was like someone was like, hey, have you
- 11:33Speaker 3: ever heard of a sasquatch doing anything violent? And he
- 11:35Speaker 3: was like, no, They're the nicest, sweetest, most like.
- 11:41Speaker 4: They're so gentle and majestic. Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 5: He like talked about it like wasn't that that guy
- 11:47Speaker 5: that got eaten by bears grizzly man. Yes, he was
- 11:51Speaker 5: like the grizzly Man of.
- 11:52Speaker 4: The squat the Squatch people.
- 11:53Speaker 5: He was like, they're just so nice.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Yeah, he was in it. There's a lot of what
- 11:59Speaker 2: I'm guessing are really prominent Bigfoot and Sasquatch personalities in here,
- 12:04Speaker 2: and I imagine he's, well, he's definitely one of them
- 12:07Speaker 2: because he's one of the names attached to one of
- 12:09Speaker 2: the most famous Bigfoot videos, which is the Gilman Patterson video. Yeah,
- 12:15Speaker 2: and he's Gilman.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't talk to Patterson, right.
- 12:18Speaker 2: He died, he did, Yeah Bigfoot. Yeah, Bigfoot kills immediately
- 12:26Speaker 2: Bigfoot shot him. Weirdly enough, you don't expect it to
- 12:31Speaker 2: happen that way, but yeah, weird. So yeah, this, Uh,
- 12:37Speaker 2: there's a lot of stuff about the history of Mendocino
- 12:39Speaker 2: County and the Emerald Triangle, huge concentration of weed farms
- 12:44Speaker 2: in that area, and the thing about it, it's it's
- 12:47Speaker 2: all deep, deep, deep in the woods. And the thing
- 12:50Speaker 2: about the woods is they are the ocean of the
- 12:53Speaker 2: land in that we don't really have a reason to
- 12:57Speaker 2: be in them, yes, out of there, which makes makes
- 13:03Speaker 2: it reasonable that that's where sasquatch would live, because really,
- 13:07Speaker 2: all you gotta do to survive in that in those
- 13:10Speaker 2: conditions and also stay low key, is develop a really
- 13:14Speaker 2: keen sense of smell, because if you're a place where
- 13:17Speaker 2: humans never are and you can just instantly smell that
- 13:20Speaker 2: there's a human nearby, you just fucking hide. So of
- 13:22Speaker 2: course sasquatch lives in the woods. I just figured it
- 13:25Speaker 2: all out. But there's also weed farmers out there, and
- 13:29Speaker 2: this is this starts out sasquatch. They do talk about
- 13:34Speaker 2: sasquatches eating buds off the plants.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Like adorable, adorable.
- 13:40Speaker 2: He's getting had baby.
- 13:41Speaker 5: I love the idea of that just being like a
- 13:43Speaker 5: cute snack. And they were really fucking selling me on sasquatch.
- 13:48Speaker 1: They really were.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I was like, I guess it reminded me of like
- 13:54Speaker 3: when people convince me that there's ghosts.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, I guess you saw it. I guess
- 13:58Speaker 1: it happened. Yeah, yeah, And there's touched my butt. A
- 14:01Speaker 1: ghost has touched my shoulder before, that is true.
- 14:04Speaker 4: But Adam, I know you're a ghost chaser. Have you
- 14:07Speaker 4: been touched by a ghost?
- 14:09Speaker 2: No, I've never seen a US. I've never seen a UFO,
- 14:12Speaker 2: despite spending a ton of time in New Mexico, So
- 14:15Speaker 2: uh whatever, I.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Want it too bad.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I had it to a certain point.
- 14:19Speaker 3: There was like two months where I felt like ghosts
- 14:21Speaker 3: kept fucking with me. And then it ended with like
- 14:24Speaker 3: I had felt on my shoulder.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Realizing she smoked too much, beat all the yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 3: No, and then I turned around and it was there
- 14:30Speaker 3: outside and I just and then after like three things happened.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I was like, I.
- 14:33Speaker 3: See you, I hear you, Please leave me alone, and
- 14:36Speaker 3: then it didn't.
- 14:38Speaker 1: It was freaking me out. That's what I've always been
- 14:39Speaker 1: told to do.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I went to Zach Began's haunted mansion in Las Vegas,
- 14:44Speaker 2: and I had heard a long time ago that if
- 14:47Speaker 2: you're in the room with a ghost, just say goodbye when.
- 14:49Speaker 3: You leave, and yeah, I was them, you want to
- 14:52Speaker 3: I want to be nowhere.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Saying goodbye bye.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Now, yeah, bye bye.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Basically every room you exit from now on say goodbye
- 15:03Speaker 2: to the ghosts that are there, unless it was like built,
- 15:06Speaker 2: you know, just a year or two ago or something
- 15:08Speaker 2: like that.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Yeam, I did have.
- 15:09Speaker 5: The most ghost problems when I was just not like
- 15:12Speaker 5: just leaving places like not saying goodbye to anybody, just
- 15:15Speaker 5: being that's a trip.
- 15:16Speaker 2: We nailed it. That's how you get haunted. You did
- 15:18Speaker 2: say goodbye to the ghosts, so I did. I did
- 15:22Speaker 2: appreciate that there was a bunch of history about the
- 15:24Speaker 2: California gold Rush in this, yes, because it does tie
- 15:28Speaker 2: into the how that area turned out to be. But
- 15:32Speaker 2: more importantly, we really romanticize the California Gold Rush as
- 15:36Speaker 2: if it was not a straight up genocide.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, I had never learned it. I learned
- 15:43Speaker 3: about you know, I'm from here. I learned about the
- 15:45Speaker 3: gold Rush my whole life. They spent like a month
- 15:47Speaker 3: on it, and I genuinely had never put two and
- 15:50Speaker 3: two together that like, of course they killed a bunch
- 15:52Speaker 3: of Indigenous people during the gold Rush. That story has
- 15:56Speaker 3: never been told to me that way. And I was like,
- 15:59Speaker 3: it felt like such a dumb moment.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Guess what if you went to public school and you
- 16:04Speaker 5: learned something more than once in history it was a lie.
- 16:08Speaker 1: That's usually fucking true.
- 16:11Speaker 3: They really tried to hammer in the same ideas every
- 16:14Speaker 3: year for certain things.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Yeah, gold Rush, Thanksgiving bullshit, and like everything else.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I helped write Civil War. Yeah, I helped write and
- 16:25Speaker 2: edit two different books that are all about that. When
- 16:29Speaker 2: I was at Cracked, we put out two different books
- 16:32Speaker 2: that are just about all the things you learned incorrectly
- 16:35Speaker 2: in school.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I think I might have shared this on here before,
- 16:39Speaker 3: but I had a government teacher that was like, let's
- 16:42Speaker 3: look at how the Constitution's written in our textbooks, and
- 16:45Speaker 3: let's compare it to an actual copy of the Constitution.
- 16:48Speaker 3: And he pointed out, like, what parts weren't finished. What
- 16:51Speaker 3: parts were like enlarged that like were misleading. Yeah, and
- 16:55Speaker 3: then we all researched that they were all made in Texas,
- 16:58Speaker 3: like all that.
- 17:00Speaker 1: It was like a lot of that.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's all very shady.
- 17:03Speaker 1: So, yeah, the gold Rush was a genocide.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Yeah, the gold Rush was a genocide. They touch on
- 17:07Speaker 2: that in this documentary and I appreciate that. But let's
- 17:11Speaker 2: get back to sasquatch. So splotchy the whole house starts
- 17:16Speaker 2: talking and asking people if anyone has sasquatch stories, and
- 17:21Speaker 2: at first it seems like no one does, and then
- 17:23Speaker 2: he puts a private investigator on the case. I was like, fuck, yes,
- 17:28Speaker 2: he's hiring a private investigator to look for sasquatch stories.
- 17:32Speaker 1: It's like from these parts too rite.
- 17:35Speaker 2: And he does, you know, finally put him in touch
- 17:38Speaker 2: with a few different people. This is the point where
- 17:41Speaker 2: they start talking to the Bigfoot video guy, the Patterson
- 17:44Speaker 2: Gimlin film guy. I think I said his name incorrectly earlier.
- 17:48Speaker 2: What do we think of that video?
- 17:50Speaker 4: I mean on this video No.
- 17:53Speaker 1: I immediately was like, he seems small.
- 18:00Speaker 2: It's kind of the end of the first episode. In
- 18:03Speaker 2: the beginning of the next episode, is them talking about
- 18:07Speaker 2: this video, which when they present it in the first episode,
- 18:11Speaker 2: it's with nothing but people who are like I was
- 18:13Speaker 2: there standing across the water and it looked at me
- 18:17Speaker 2: and it's like he didn't have a British accent. But
- 18:19Speaker 2: and then they there across.
- 18:21Speaker 3: The water and it turned at me and it's that
- 18:24Speaker 3: classic arm back in turn.
- 18:28Speaker 5: And I was like, yeah, classic, and it was just
- 18:33Speaker 5: like it also in nineteen it's nineteen sixty seven is
- 18:36Speaker 5: the video?
- 18:37Speaker 1: I think it's sixty yeah, and and I'm like, yeah,
- 18:41Speaker 1: video quality was terrible in sixty seven, like right blurry
- 18:45Speaker 1: was like, wow, you did it.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Which would make it easier to fake.
- 18:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:50Speaker 2: And then they opened the second episode with an interview
- 18:53Speaker 2: with a guy who was like, I was in a
- 18:55Speaker 2: suit in that video and.
- 18:57Speaker 1: He's like five eight. They go further to say that
- 19:00Speaker 1: he's like five eight.
- 19:01Speaker 4: And we got got honey.
- 19:03Speaker 2: And he's like so tricked. He's like, look at my
- 19:06Speaker 2: right hip, I'm wearing my jeans. You can see my wallet.
- 19:09Speaker 2: And I actually couldn't even at.
- 19:11Speaker 4: The bottom of the suit on you couldn't see his wallet.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I couldn't see his wallet.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Ut me around his ass, your brain just wants to
- 19:18Speaker 5: fill in the blanks because it's not clear enough.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yes, that is also very true.
- 19:23Speaker 3: But I also love any form of media in which
- 19:28Speaker 3: I feel like a magic trick was done and I
- 19:30Speaker 3: was tricked, and that's definitely how I felt. The beginning
- 19:32Speaker 3: of episode two, Ess go Ahead.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Texted me, I feel like I believe in sasquatch the
- 19:37Speaker 5: same way I believe in ghosts, and I would like
- 19:40Speaker 5: just didn't respond because I was like, wait till the
- 19:42Speaker 5: next episode.
- 19:43Speaker 3: But that was just I was also obviously smoking during
- 19:46Speaker 3: this whole thing, and I thought about that and I
- 19:49Speaker 3: was like, yeah, like I believe that people believe they've
- 19:52Speaker 3: seen it. And then I was like, wait, no, I've
- 19:54Speaker 3: had experiences with ghosts, it's not the same.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I've never had an experience with a squatch.
- 20:01Speaker 5: I have.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Stopping before that first episode ends, he gets in touch
- 20:06Speaker 2: with a guy who is just awesomely named Razor.
- 20:10Speaker 5: Yes.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Do you think it's because he's so good at trimming?
- 20:13Speaker 4: Oh?
- 20:14Speaker 2: Maybe? Yeah, I wonder if it was if it was
- 20:17Speaker 2: like a fake nickname and his real nickname's Blade, And
- 20:20Speaker 2: he's like, what you changed? It's a Razor? That's not
- 20:24Speaker 2: That's not enough.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Razor Scooter.
- 20:30Speaker 2: So he does say he remembers hearing this story, and
- 20:34Speaker 2: he adds a couple details that there were three Mexican
- 20:37Speaker 2: nationals those were the victims, and that they were killed
- 20:40Speaker 2: in the area of spy Rock Road, which is as
- 20:45Speaker 2: cool of an area as the name implies. If you
- 20:48Speaker 2: like danger and potentially being murdered. It's but it sounds
- 20:54Speaker 2: it sounds really great. His story seems very believable. And
- 20:57Speaker 2: then whole House gets his text from the detective and
- 21:00Speaker 2: he's like, I can't do this anymore. We're getting into
- 21:03Speaker 2: dangerous territory and it's which, holy shit, did that private
- 21:07Speaker 2: investigator talk to a bigfoot who threatened him?
- 21:11Speaker 4: Bigfoot mafia?
- 21:12Speaker 3: Bigfoot mafia? Yeah, at that point when his life gets threatened.
- 21:16Speaker 3: If you fell as if you still think it's squatched, what.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Are you doing?
- 21:20Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 21:21Speaker 2: It would have been funny though, if like a bigfoot
- 21:23Speaker 2: lawyer showed up wearing a suit and shit, we will.
- 21:26Speaker 1: See you the whole I don't make sure the whole suit.
- 21:28Speaker 3: It's just a collar and tie and then it's a
- 21:31Speaker 3: little pocket protector in the fir like Chewbacca.
- 21:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I like like like how Chewbacca addressed for the job,
- 21:40Speaker 5: for the Chewacca you want, not the.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Chewbacca you have. So this private investigator gives up. He's like,
- 21:49Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not doing this anymore. You're gonna get
- 21:51Speaker 2: us both killed by a Sasquatch. And they start getting
- 21:55Speaker 2: into spy Rock Road a lot, and this place sounds fascinating.
- 21:59Speaker 2: It is apparently controlled by the Hell's Angels, very hard
- 22:02Speaker 2: to get to, and there's lots of history. This is
- 22:06Speaker 2: they talk about, like some strange murders that have happened there.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And this is why I hate that they spend so
- 22:12Speaker 2: much time on the War on drugs because it's getting
- 22:15Speaker 2: really interesting. And then they talk about the War on
- 22:17Speaker 2: drugs for like twenty minutes and it's very distracting.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I had a hard time getting through that part. I
- 22:22Speaker 4: was like, yep, I do know, I do know about it.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Do they talk about immigrants working on weed farms before
- 22:29Speaker 3: or after the War on drugs?
- 22:31Speaker 2: After? Huh?
- 22:32Speaker 4: After?
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:33Speaker 5: And Also I don't feel like they I felt like
- 22:37Speaker 5: we'll get to it.
- 22:38Speaker 4: I feel like that part was very like glossed over
- 22:40Speaker 4: a bit.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Me too.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I wish they spent the time they did on the
- 22:43Speaker 3: War on drugs on immigrants, like trying to find jobs
- 22:47Speaker 3: and work.
- 22:47Speaker 4: And they maybe they sure they did, and it was
- 22:50Speaker 4: really sad. So I just don't remember.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember, not that that was a big chunk.
- 22:54Speaker 2: But not long after Trump got elected, I remember reading
- 22:57Speaker 2: a story about all these northern California farmers who were
- 23:00Speaker 2: upset that their farm workers were getting deported, but also
- 23:03Speaker 2: they all voted for Trump. It's like, so you thought
- 23:06Speaker 2: he wasn't gonna deport your workers, just the bad people.
- 23:10Speaker 2: It's like, you fucking idiot.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Yeah, the spoiler alert, there's like no bad ones. It's
- 23:15Speaker 3: all of them that.
- 23:16Speaker 1: They're trying to get rid of, exactly. I mean, there's
- 23:18Speaker 1: as many bad people as there are of any group.
- 23:21Speaker 2: We we understand.
- 23:22Speaker 3: I'm painting with my edibles are colliding, sorry.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Edible collision. Just what sasquatch would want.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Really, So he calls a confidential informant and says, uh, hello,
- 23:39Speaker 2: can I speak to and then they bleep it out.
- 23:41Speaker 2: So at this point I decided this confidential informant is
- 23:45Speaker 2: named fuck because it's like just short enough and it
- 23:48Speaker 2: sounds so definitely not chuck, No, it's fuck. Fuck.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:53Speaker 2: He talks to an informant named fuck. Did anyone catch
- 23:56Speaker 2: his motel room. There's just a really brief shot where
- 23:58Speaker 2: he's making phone calls in his mo tel room. Yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 2: and it's got like an actual glass front door on it.
- 24:04Speaker 2: I don't like that.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Oh no, it was a very weird vibe of the
- 24:08Speaker 4: motel room.
- 24:08Speaker 2: That makes me uncomfortable. It was super strange anyway. So
- 24:14Speaker 2: this is where they they talk a lot about David
- 24:17Speaker 2: holt House himself and about how a lot of his
- 24:20Speaker 2: work has been him chasing his own demons in some respect.
- 24:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:27Speaker 3: I was like, when I first met David and not met,
- 24:30Speaker 3: but like in the beginning, I'm like that hair choice.
- 24:33Speaker 3: And then they say that he went undercover with skinheads
- 24:35Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh, yeah, I would also wear my
- 24:37Speaker 3: hair as long as possible post skinhead.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah investigation. Yeah, that's that's a metaphor right on
- 24:44Speaker 2: his fucking head, right.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:46Speaker 5: I liked how well they portrayed the depth of him
- 24:49Speaker 5: in Yeah. And also I thought that it was really
- 24:52Speaker 5: good that they got us to trust him before he
- 24:55Speaker 5: even revealed any trauma to us, because that would have
- 24:57Speaker 5: been the easy thing to do, was to just tell us.
- 24:59Speaker 4: What and out the gates.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Also, it doesn't.
- 25:02Speaker 3: It makes it so his trauma doesn't define him. I
- 25:04Speaker 3: feel like sometimes when we learn characters, we learn their
- 25:06Speaker 3: trauma first and then that's like who they are, right.
- 25:09Speaker 5: And I thought that they did just like a really
- 25:12Speaker 5: good job of showing us that he had perspective, so
- 25:17Speaker 5: that we were never like I don't know if I
- 25:19Speaker 5: trust this main character. We were always with him on
- 25:22Speaker 5: the story.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Yeah, he's he's immediately very likable and trustworthy.
- 25:28Speaker 3: He also, I think part of it make him so trustworthy.
- 25:31Speaker 3: He's in the beginning, he's like, here's what I do know.
- 25:33Speaker 3: I don't know, Like I love that he's not like
- 25:35Speaker 3: this is what I'm sorting out to find.
- 25:37Speaker 1: He's like, let's figure this out because the shit's weird.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like, this, it's a story I heard. What
- 25:42Speaker 2: do you want me to do?
- 25:44Speaker 1: Exactly?
- 25:45Speaker 2: It's the story I heard. Yeah, where he shares all
- 25:47Speaker 2: that about himself, like he didn't have to do that,
- 25:50Speaker 2: Like the documentary would have worked without it, So hundred
- 25:54Speaker 2: that's that's an example of them adding stuff that necessarily
- 25:58Speaker 2: didn't need to be there. But I'm fine with just
- 26:00Speaker 2: like the California gold Rush stuff, Hell yeah, include all
- 26:03Speaker 2: that so maybe this episode is better than we said
- 26:06Speaker 2: it was. When we first started talking, we were.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Just like, we're sad now and we hate it. Back
- 26:11Speaker 4: to Sasquatch please.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Just could have been a tweet.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:15Speaker 3: I think it was so like emotionally draining. I mean,
- 26:17Speaker 3: it's because they also needed to get stuff done. But
- 26:19Speaker 3: I think I took a break like mid episode two
- 26:22Speaker 3: for a while, like not in between episodes, but just
- 26:25Speaker 3: mid episode two.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I was like, let me get away from this.
- 26:28Speaker 4: I watched it all the way through, did not stop.
- 26:32Speaker 2: I here's the thing. I also thought it was a
- 26:35Speaker 2: movie at first, so I didn't start watching it until
- 26:38Speaker 2: around nine am this morning, and then once I saw
- 26:40Speaker 2: it was three episodes, I was like, shit, am I
- 26:42Speaker 2: gonna make it before I have to record?
- 26:44Speaker 1: Oh you watched it today?
- 26:46Speaker 2: I did. Yeah, Oh funny, Yeah it's fresh in my mind.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I watched it Saturday.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I watched it whatever day. You texted me
- 26:54Speaker 4: about it. Saturday, so we had a lot to think about.
- 26:59Speaker 2: We get a little bit of foreshadowing into a subject
- 27:03Speaker 2: that's going to come up a lot later in this documentary,
- 27:06Speaker 2: which is, uh, people are super duper racist. In this
- 27:10Speaker 2: part of California. He talks to fuck who tells him
- 27:14Speaker 2: a story about two guys from LA who were murdered
- 27:17Speaker 2: and buried in the area. And he tells that story
- 27:20Speaker 2: incredibly racistly, which here's the thing. Most spellcheck did not
- 27:26Speaker 2: correct the word racistly, So apparently that's that's a word. Yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 2: that's that's apparently real. You did that very racist.
- 27:36Speaker 5: Word.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and uh yeah. He drops the N word
- 27:39Speaker 2: a couple of times. It's very bad, and it does
- 27:43Speaker 2: a good job of demonstrating something that they talk about later,
- 27:47Speaker 2: which is how horribly racist that part of the country is,
- 27:51Speaker 2: which I think people underestimate. A lot of people want
- 27:53Speaker 2: to think that.
- 27:54Speaker 5: We think that California is like some utopian, non racist
- 27:59Speaker 5: lang and really it is so racist here if you
- 28:03Speaker 5: get out of La at all that it's just Trump
- 28:05Speaker 5: signs everywhere still.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Even in LA. I've never lived somewhere segregated as LA
- 28:12Speaker 2: like that, But I mean, I've lived in places that
- 28:16Speaker 2: didn't have a ton of people of color, like South Dakota.
- 28:21Speaker 2: But even then, it's not like everyone was in one neighborhood,
- 28:25Speaker 2: which is what they still really try to do in LA.
- 28:29Speaker 2: It's fucked super segregated here.
- 28:31Speaker 3: I definitely romanticized the liberalness of the Bay Area before
- 28:36Speaker 3: I moved there, and like went there for college. Oh
- 28:39Speaker 3: my god, I did even your first year there, and
- 28:44Speaker 3: like if you're in your little college bubble, you do
- 28:46Speaker 3: think it's like that, yeah, you know. And then I
- 28:50Speaker 3: like visited Friends and Humbolt and I was like, yeah,
- 28:52Speaker 3: this is gonna be the really hippy Oh yeah.
- 28:57Speaker 2: New York is like that also because like New York
- 29:01Speaker 2: is always blue in the elections, and people think, oh
- 29:04Speaker 2: Hillary Clinton fucking super liberal. Nah, Manhattan is liberal, like
- 29:09Speaker 2: New York City is liberal. If you go, yeah, forty
- 29:12Speaker 2: five minutes north, you get to Upstate New York and
- 29:15Speaker 2: that is all racist retired cops. I lived in New
- 29:19Speaker 2: York for six months, and I split my time between
- 29:21Speaker 2: Manhattan and Upstate New York. And where I lived in
- 29:24Speaker 2: Upstate New York was fucking cop Land. And it was
- 29:28Speaker 2: the most openly racist place I've ever lived. It fucking
- 29:33Speaker 2: sucked anyway.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Carthern California, has a similar energy.
- 29:37Speaker 5: When I went there for like a weed convention, it
- 29:42Speaker 5: is so like they just it's seriously fucked up. The
- 29:46Speaker 5: things they'll just say to you, like it's nothing too
- 29:49Speaker 5: and it's like they just think that because you're in
- 29:51Speaker 5: the same industry as them, maybe like that you understand
- 29:55Speaker 5: where they're coming from on stuff. And people will just
- 29:57Speaker 5: say really fucked up racist or just like horror, do.
- 30:00Speaker 1: You Yeah, Yeah, the weaed industry is not great at all.
- 30:05Speaker 4: No, the wead industry is pretty fucked up and racist.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:09Speaker 3: Is that is that when it starts in the documentary
- 30:12Speaker 3: around where we're talking about. Is that where it starts
- 30:14Speaker 3: to show, like because I know, it starts to show
- 30:16Speaker 3: the migration of people going up north to want to
- 30:18Speaker 3: live a free life and like not have running water
- 30:22Speaker 3: and be away from things, and then it shows how
- 30:24Speaker 3: that a lot of those people also were wielding guns
- 30:28Speaker 3: and like.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and they get into how living in that situation
- 30:33Speaker 2: can make you a little crazy. Like it's a very
- 30:35Speaker 2: isolated thing.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Yeah, even if you go out with those righteous intentions, Yeah,
- 30:41Speaker 3: like you start for forgetting everything when you're super isolated.
- 30:45Speaker 4: You know, you still got to protect your crop. Baby.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Razor talks a lot about that. I liked Razor
- 30:52Speaker 2: a lot. He was Yeah, he made a lot of
- 30:55Speaker 2: really great points in this documentary whenever he talked and
- 30:59Speaker 2: one of the things he brought up about that thing
- 31:02Speaker 2: where people would go up initially with like you said,
- 31:05Speaker 2: these noble intentions to just grow weed and be a hippie,
- 31:09Speaker 2: and then they'd spend one season up there and come
- 31:11Speaker 2: back a completely different person, like be it because they
- 31:15Speaker 2: had money now, or they had a drug problem now,
- 31:18Speaker 2: or something would change them, and then they'd go back
- 31:21Speaker 2: the next season.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and then they.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Talk about like needing to do uppers to trim all
- 31:26Speaker 3: night long and something like that.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Too, which is like, I don't know, I definitely saw
- 31:31Speaker 1: that happen to.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Some people, Like I personally have seen that happen, and
- 31:35Speaker 3: it's gnarly in it.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Even with no trauma, trimming is the most mind numbing
- 31:41Speaker 5: gig that like, like, even if your job goes perfectly,
- 31:46Speaker 5: trimming is so monotonous that you will.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Lose it a little bit.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Yeah, if you're not listening to books the whole time.
- 31:55Speaker 2: In it, I felt like that was a really important
- 31:59Speaker 2: detail because meth that is a whole like, if you
- 32:03Speaker 2: get really strung out on meth, the hallucinations that can
- 32:06Speaker 2: happen are really insane. There's all link to it in
- 32:10Speaker 2: the notes. I should have sent it to you both
- 32:12Speaker 2: so he could watch it. It's this news report. This
- 32:15Speaker 2: happened in Omaha. This couple. I think they were just
- 32:19Speaker 2: boyfriend and girlfriend. I don't think they were married. They
- 32:21Speaker 2: were really young, and they had been smoking meth all
- 32:24Speaker 2: day and they at one point called nine to one
- 32:27Speaker 2: one and they're like, we're in our apartment in downtown Omaha.
- 32:31Speaker 2: It's surrounded by Africans and they will not let us leave.
- 32:35Speaker 2: And they end up on the phone with the police
- 32:38Speaker 2: for four hours while the police are trying to figure
- 32:41Speaker 2: out where they actually are. And they were in the
- 32:43Speaker 2: middle of a field like three hours away, freezing to death,
- 32:48Speaker 2: and the whole time they're like, we're in our apartment.
- 32:50Speaker 2: It's surrounded. So once I heard that people were like
- 32:53Speaker 2: smoking a ton of myth, I was like, oh, that
- 32:55Speaker 2: might explain the Bigfoot thing too.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Oh yeah, just some of the descriptions of Bigfoot being
- 33:02Speaker 3: like someone's watching you in the forest, like I've I've
- 33:05Speaker 3: hallucinated in the forest.
- 33:08Speaker 4: You know who I just remembered that we haven't talked
- 33:11Speaker 4: about is.
- 33:11Speaker 5: That former cop who was crying in his head that
- 33:16Speaker 5: was lying that motherfucker. Something else happened and he replaced
- 33:21Speaker 5: that memory with a Sasquatch memory.
- 33:23Speaker 4: I was like, this dude is fucking lying.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Hey, so what was his story again that he just
- 33:29Speaker 1: saw I just.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Saw one and he started someone in the forest, That's
- 33:33Speaker 5: what happened. And they screamed, and that's what happened, because.
- 33:36Speaker 3: It was the scream that really made him start fading out. Yeah,
- 33:39Speaker 3: totally killed someone in the forest.
- 33:41Speaker 2: That was so strange.
- 33:44Speaker 1: That was so weird.
- 33:45Speaker 2: I've never seen someone talk about being scared the way
- 33:49Speaker 2: he talked about being scared.
- 33:51Speaker 4: Because that motherfucker was scared of his own mind.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that was really weird. I was because I was
- 33:58Speaker 2: like that too much time with that fucking weirdo.
- 34:01Speaker 4: I almost want to.
- 34:02Speaker 5: Watch that again with the with the knowing that I
- 34:04Speaker 5: think he's lying to see if he does the things
- 34:07Speaker 5: that liars do, which I'm sure he did, and that's
- 34:09Speaker 5: why immediately recognize it, but the whole like I bet
- 34:11Speaker 5: he was like looking up and trying to disguise it
- 34:13Speaker 5: as crying, which is why it was so dramatic.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Yeah, he kept looking straight ahead, like at the road,
- 34:18Speaker 3: not at the camera, like trying to find his lies.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Yeah that I had it in the notes somewhere, but
- 34:25Speaker 2: who knows.
- 34:26Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 34:27Speaker 2: We did? I think we skipped over it. Yeah that guy.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Oh so I'm glad you remembered that, Jen though, because
- 34:33Speaker 3: I've locked that out.
- 34:34Speaker 4: Oh my god, it was so weird.
- 34:36Speaker 5: I was like, why would you even agree to go
- 34:38Speaker 5: on camera if you were just gonna lie and cry
- 34:40Speaker 5: like that. He's been waiting for that opportunity to cover
- 34:43Speaker 5: for himself.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they're going to find a body out there. Someday
- 34:47Speaker 2: they won't.
- 34:47Speaker 1: There's so many bodies.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 34:51Speaker 1: They're gonna find that body.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Because again, it's the ocean of the land. Yeah, that's
- 34:56Speaker 2: what the woods are. So he has another meeting with
- 35:00Speaker 2: the confidential informant, who says, you're looking for those three
- 35:03Speaker 2: Mexican guys that killed back in nineteen ninety three. Oh right,
- 35:09Speaker 2: and we I don't think we ever learned this guy's name,
- 35:13Speaker 2: but he is. He is a very prominent figure in
- 35:16Speaker 2: this documentary. He's once again reminded his life might be
- 35:20Speaker 2: in danger. And no one wants to talk about this
- 35:23Speaker 2: guy except one dude, who is again awesomely named Ghost Dance.
- 35:28Speaker 4: That's his name.
- 35:29Speaker 2: His name was Ghost Dance.
- 35:31Speaker 3: He's one of my favorite talking heads in the whole
- 35:33Speaker 3: thing because he doesn't give a shit. He says he's
- 35:36Speaker 3: never seen a skutsass watch, so he doesn't believe in it.
- 35:39Speaker 1: He's like, he's like, well, I've never seen with my
- 35:41Speaker 1: two eyes, so no.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Which is kind of a sketchy way to approach it,
- 35:48Speaker 2: like I've never seen a California condor, but they exist.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Yeah, but he's been up there for a long.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Time, that's true. One's never come into my store. So
- 35:59Speaker 2: he brings up another murder that happened in twenty thirteen,
- 36:02Speaker 2: which spins off into a whole other plot line this documentary.
- 36:09Speaker 2: It like we're getting we're getting to the point where
- 36:11Speaker 2: I don't want to give too much more away, but.
- 36:13Speaker 5: Ah, but that part was a just goes to show
- 36:16Speaker 5: you people get fucking murdered up here, like it's nothing.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Yeah. It was a guy named Hugo. He was sleeping
- 36:22Speaker 2: in his tent guarding a weed growing spot and someone
- 36:25Speaker 2: just shot through the tent.
- 36:27Speaker 4: That was the really sad part. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:30Speaker 2: And they interview his niece and she's still super distraught
- 36:34Speaker 2: over it.
- 36:35Speaker 1: It's so sad.
- 36:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it's so fucked up.
- 36:38Speaker 3: He was the best uncle, that's what she says, it's
- 36:43Speaker 3: like so sad.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:46Speaker 5: So yeah, there's also that meth lady in the car.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 36:53Speaker 5: He meets this lady in a parking lot to talk
- 36:56Speaker 5: about the murder, and she talks about a completely differ murder.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Again, one that her one that her five year old
- 37:04Speaker 2: son witnessed.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah. She says that that was so two men were
- 37:10Speaker 2: shot and that her son was close enough to it
- 37:13Speaker 2: that he got blood spatter on his face and tasted
- 37:17Speaker 2: it a little.
- 37:18Speaker 3: But I hope he was young enough where he just
- 37:20Speaker 3: doesn't remember it.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Sounds like she remembers it enough that he remembers it.
- 37:24Speaker 2: He was five, so I think that's pretty old.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Yeah he remembers, because as if you're like under six,
- 37:31Speaker 3: your brain can be like, let's get rid of that.
- 37:33Speaker 2: My grandmother on my mom's side died when I was
- 37:38Speaker 2: in kindergartener about to go to kindergarten, so I would
- 37:40Speaker 2: have been like five, and I vividly remember walking in
- 37:45Speaker 2: the living room and seeing my sister just sobbing and like,
- 37:49Speaker 2: I don't remember much else, but like that part I
- 37:52Speaker 2: think was memory. Yeah. So, man, if you're five and
- 37:56Speaker 2: you see two people get shot gunned to death and
- 37:58Speaker 2: the blood splatters on your face, and I feel like
- 38:01Speaker 2: you're gonna remember it.
- 38:02Speaker 5: Also, that lady she got in the car with him
- 38:06Speaker 5: for the interview and offered him a hit of meths
- 38:08Speaker 5: So just to let you know how like openly people
- 38:11Speaker 5: use meth and talk about murder.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Oh, and he offered to buy her a drink and
- 38:16Speaker 3: she said no and let her meth pipe in the bar.
- 38:19Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah, I like that. I mean, I don't like
- 38:23Speaker 2: but it's interesting that this place is so violent and
- 38:28Speaker 2: just known, like so scary to people that he even
- 38:31Speaker 2: interviews a cop who's like, I'm not going to appear
- 38:33Speaker 2: on camera. I fucking killed a cartel guy in a
- 38:36Speaker 2: shootout a few years ago.
- 38:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Hell no, Like I forgot about that.
- 38:40Speaker 2: No one wants to appear on camera.
- 38:42Speaker 4: Except not a lot at Yeah.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Except except ghost dance.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Yes, I didn't do anything.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I love ghost dance.
- 38:50Speaker 2: And so he goes poking around on Skyrock Road where
- 38:53Speaker 2: or Spyrock Road, where.
- 38:55Speaker 3: They immediately say don't go there, please please please do
- 38:59Speaker 3: not go to.
- 39:00Speaker 4: Yeah, then he's there.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:02Speaker 2: I feel like that's starting to become like a trope
- 39:06Speaker 2: in documentaries.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Yeah, don't do it, or they'll.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Be interviewing someone who's like, oh, yeah, that person's never
- 39:14Speaker 2: going to talk to you. Next scene, that person sitting
- 39:16Speaker 2: down for you. It's like always though, yeah yeah, So
- 39:23Speaker 2: sure enough, he goes up there and starts asking questions
- 39:26Speaker 2: and he's He's told by a few different sources that
- 39:31Speaker 2: the murder was ordered by a high level grower, possibly
- 39:34Speaker 2: in retaliation for getting the grower's daughter strung out on heroin,
- 39:38Speaker 2: and one of about fifty compelling theories that come after this.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Yes.
- 39:45Speaker 2: One thing we do find out, though, is that the
- 39:48Speaker 2: legendary Bigfoot actually the name of a well known weed
- 39:52Speaker 2: grower in the area at the time, Bigfoot Gary. Yes,
- 39:56Speaker 2: what a great fucking name.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Can you imagine?
- 40:00Speaker 3: I want to be called Bigfoot Gary.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Like I thought big Feet.
- 40:07Speaker 2: I thought it was funny enough when they were like,
- 40:09Speaker 2: oh yeah, people called him Bigfoot, and then it's the
- 40:12Speaker 2: it's the the meth woman who in the car is like,
- 40:16Speaker 2: oh Bigfoot, Yeah, I know him. His name is Bigfoot Gary. Yes,
- 40:21Speaker 2: that's not as cool.
- 40:24Speaker 5: It was so funny though, because they also did a
- 40:25Speaker 5: thing that was very documentary e where they were like, yeah,
- 40:29Speaker 5: so people keep getting keep saying that there's murders by Bigfoot,
- 40:33Speaker 5: and then it's like, so we talked to Bigfoot Gary,
- 40:37Speaker 5: so you guys trying to say without saying that big
- 40:39Speaker 5: Foot Gary murder these people.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but then but then yeah, he's just a yeah,
- 40:49Speaker 2: heems like not a murderer.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Just not nice.
- 40:52Speaker 2: And I think one of the things that might be
- 40:55Speaker 2: informing Jen's opinion there is that at one point Bigfoot
- 40:58Speaker 2: Gary's wife call and goes, my husband's not a murderer.
- 41:02Speaker 2: He's a dick. He's not a murderer.
- 41:06Speaker 3: That's the best part. And then he's like, is Bigfoot
- 41:09Speaker 3: Gary there? Can I just talk to him? Or she
- 41:13Speaker 3: just enhands the phone to like can he talk to you?
- 41:18Speaker 2: And he's like, why do they call you Bigfoot? And
- 41:20Speaker 2: he's like, I got big feet, what do you want?
- 41:24Speaker 4: Well, we eventually find wasn't even there in nineteen ninety three.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Yeah, more like Bigfoot, not very there was another Gary.
- 41:34Speaker 1: He needed.
- 41:37Speaker 4: The other Gary.
- 41:38Speaker 2: So yeah, from Gary. From there, like, I don't want
- 41:42Speaker 2: to give away too many details from there because spot
- 41:47Speaker 2: because it really starts taking some twists and turns, and
- 41:51Speaker 2: it seems like what happened is going to be one
- 41:54Speaker 2: thing kind of right up to the end, and then
- 41:57Speaker 2: what they settle on for an explanation is just wow,
- 42:02Speaker 2: so good. It's so good. Granted, probably a hate crime
- 42:07Speaker 2: and the people involved are monsters, but oh man, that
- 42:12Speaker 2: the meth fueled planning that went into it and the
- 42:15Speaker 2: plan they came out of it with amazing.
- 42:18Speaker 3: I am so happy I was on this because I
- 42:21Speaker 3: wouldn't click something that was called Sasquatch to watch without
- 42:26Speaker 3: given some exposition of it, being like this, do you
- 42:30Speaker 3: know what I mean?
- 42:30Speaker 1: Like, I'm like, oh, a sasquat whatever.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Yeah. Once the I was like, what is this going
- 42:35Speaker 4: to be? Tone wise?
- 42:37Speaker 5: And then the opening was produced by the Duplas Brothers,
- 42:39Speaker 5: and I was like, I'm fucking.
- 42:41Speaker 3: In, Yeah, I'll watch anything those fuckers make.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I really really will.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Yeah. And I actually didn't know this was a Duplas
- 42:50Speaker 2: Brothers thing until I started watching it, and then I
- 42:53Speaker 2: was like, oh, fuck, yeah, this is gonna be good.
- 42:55Speaker 5: What do you think their homes look like? Just like
- 42:57Speaker 5: conspiracies all over the place.
- 42:59Speaker 2: What if they live in that motel room from room
- 43:01Speaker 2: one oh four?
- 43:02Speaker 4: Probably?
- 43:03Speaker 3: Well, Mark's marrying to what's her name, who's really funny,
- 43:06Speaker 3: And I feel like she just keeps she's.
- 43:07Speaker 4: Really dissecting my joke that.
- 43:09Speaker 2: I just did.
- 43:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I started to really think about what their houses
- 43:13Speaker 3: look like, and I'm like, I feel like very clean.
- 43:15Speaker 2: I looked up their wedding registry online.
- 43:18Speaker 4: They're rich, so definitely.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, if you're rich and don't have a
- 43:23Speaker 2: clean house.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Assignment series can be rich and not have a clean house.
- 43:27Speaker 2: No, no, I said, if you're rich and don't have
- 43:29Speaker 2: a clean house, what do you do? Yeah? What is
- 43:32Speaker 2: wrong with you?
- 43:33Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 43:34Speaker 2: You could be employing people?
- 43:36Speaker 5: Are really you're taking away jobs with your messy house.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Being rich.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like actors who do their own stunts. It's
- 43:44Speaker 2: like you selfish prick. Let a stunt person ask, So
- 43:48Speaker 2: what did what did we think of this documentary? All around?
- 43:52Speaker 4: I thought it was really fun as I sat up top.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd give it like eight and a half or
- 43:57Speaker 3: a nine out of ten.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Honestly, I really really enjoyed it.
- 44:01Speaker 5: Also for the dark like what darkness is in it?
- 44:05Speaker 5: They still do a really good job of presenting it
- 44:07Speaker 5: that it made me not super depressed because it was
- 44:10Speaker 5: a lot of again stuff that, like you already know
- 44:13Speaker 5: is a systemic issue.
- 44:15Speaker 2: You know, yeah, and it's I mean, the racism is
- 44:18Speaker 2: a problem, and it is like I'm.
- 44:21Speaker 4: Already super depressed about things that were brought to attention
- 44:24Speaker 4: in this.
- 44:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I thought it was pretty well executed. I
- 44:29Speaker 2: do think it was a little too long, but I mean,
- 44:32Speaker 2: at least it wasn't six episodes, which.
- 44:34Speaker 5: Is why, right, God, it could have been too They
- 44:36Speaker 5: could have really stretched a bitch out and had more
- 44:39Speaker 5: interviews and shit.
- 44:40Speaker 3: Yeah, but it also could have been a ninety minute documentary.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Yes, uh yeah, I could have seen a different filmmaker,
- 44:48Speaker 2: like trying to make all those different theories into one episode,
- 44:53Speaker 2: so you're like following like the rape theory or the
- 44:56Speaker 2: I don't want to give away all the theories. But
- 44:58Speaker 2: and then you get to the end of the episode
- 45:00Speaker 2: and they're like, it wasn't that, we'll talk about it different,
- 45:02Speaker 2: when next time it's like, fucking don't bore us. Get
- 45:04Speaker 2: to the chorus. So I appreciated that this wasn't that long.
- 45:08Speaker 2: I thought everyone in it was relatively likable, except for
- 45:12Speaker 2: a bunch of the criminals who seem like some racist fucks. Yes,
- 45:16Speaker 2: most of the talking heads are fine, except the sob
- 45:19Speaker 2: and cop who uh.
- 45:20Speaker 5: And also I liked that nobody who is bad is glamorized.
- 45:25Speaker 5: It's no glamorization of anything happening that was terrible, which
- 45:30Speaker 5: is really refreshing because I feel like so many documentaries
- 45:34Speaker 5: like glamorize horrible murder.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Yeah, they sure doe, And.
- 45:38Speaker 4: It was very much not that in this. It was
- 45:40Speaker 4: a very let's get down to business.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I agree.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Yeah, And it doesn't end the way you're expecting. I
- 45:47Speaker 2: would say I did, actually though, at one point watching it,
- 45:51Speaker 2: have that thought like is this what they're doing? Like
- 45:54Speaker 2: I don't even want to say, but I did have
- 45:56Speaker 2: have the thought that maybe maybe they just you know,
- 45:59Speaker 2: I don't ever. Will everyone go watch this? Please? Everyone
- 46:03Speaker 2: tweet at us so we can talk about it with you.
- 46:06Speaker 2: We'll have all of you.
- 46:08Speaker 3: About it more, and we'll talk about the ending maybe
- 46:10Speaker 3: on trend pony.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Oh, I mean just an idea.
- 46:18Speaker 4: I like it.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Why did you say idea like that?
- 46:21Speaker 4: I I.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Don't know.
- 46:25Speaker 1: I've been talking for like four hours.
- 46:29Speaker 2: That's a good point. We should probably wrap this up.
