- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Who?
- 0:15Welcome back to the three O take presented by Schnook Sedery.
- 0:17This episode 6 O 6. I'll be your host, Kyle Korner.
- 0:21I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:23Nate, JB. Whoa.
- 0:28Casey. Whoa.
- 0:32Casey. That felt that felt intentional.
- 0:44I don't know. You don't seem very remorseful.
- 0:48How are we been better? I can really.
- 0:53Just be on just you're, you're in a safe place.
- 0:57You're with friends. I thought I was with friends.
- 1:01Just tell us. Tell us what this process has
- 1:05been like for you. What are you talking about?
- 1:09Are you OK? Yeah.
- 1:10I feel like you're now on the level of acceptance.
- 1:13You're moving forward. You've accepted where your
- 1:20fandom is at. Have you started looking into
- 1:24other things in life? Have you considered trying
- 1:29something else other than rooting for the red?
- 1:34Sox, we just recorded a change up for Patreon on Hobbies.
- 1:38By the way, it was a great plug for Patreon.
- 1:41Join our Patreon, you can hear us talk about hobbies for over
- 1:43half an hour. Have those picked up for for
- 1:48Casey you have? You suddenly, you said you
- 1:51started fishing again. That was last year, too cold.
- 1:56It's still too cold now. Yeah.
- 2:01You know, as a, as a, as a Red Sox fan like you, Nate.
- 2:06I'm a Red Sox fan. It's it's been tough, you know,
- 2:10it's been tough seeing the guy that's been, I'm good leading
- 2:14the charge. I'm a Red Sox fan.
- 2:16Seeing the guy that's lead been leading the charge since 20. 18
- 2:20The only reason he gets up in the morning, then that's what it
- 2:23has to be. Seeing the guy leading the
- 2:29charge since 2018 just get taken out at the knees.
- 2:36What are you? What are you?
- 2:38What are you looking at? What are you watching?
- 2:40This is why we got to walk off. This is why we got to turn the
- 2:44TV's off. Matt Olson hit a walk off.
- 2:47Turn the TV off. Turn the TV off.
- 2:50I'm tripping, I'm tripping, I'm driving.
- 2:53I'm sliding through the back like power.
- 2:56No Bing bak boom Bing bak. Bam.
- 3:02Yeah. Alex Korra, man, we, we we
- 3:04talked about it on on Sunday, Sunday Clubhouse.
- 3:09But for those who were unable to join us, we, we talked about the
- 3:13news happening over the weekend. Alex Korra being let go on what
- 3:21day was that? Saturday.
- 3:23Saturday, yeah, It was after the.
- 3:26It was after the the how many runs did we put that?
- 3:31In Yeah 17. 17 game, fellow Red Sox fan that you should
- 3:36remember. Yeah, it's I'll, I'll, I'll say
- 3:43what I said on Sunday. The fact that Craig Breslow is
- 3:48still employed by the Boston Red Sox and Alex Cora is not is so
- 3:57beyond me. I if, if you were so, if you
- 4:04were so insistent upon Alex Gordon needing to be gone and
- 4:06you needing a a new voice in the clubhouse, fine.
- 4:11But Craig Breslow also needs to go because he's doing this team
- 4:14no favors and he's only I'm I'm seeing more reports come out
- 4:19that they're just they're Dr. lining this franchise into the
- 4:26ground like they're just going full blown driveline and we'll
- 4:33see. I mean, everybody, all the Alex
- 4:35Gore haters, they saw Chad Tracy win his first game at the helm
- 4:40and they said this team's different.
- 4:43You just watch. And then we just got blown out
- 4:45by a, a, a corpse of a Blue Jays team today.
- 4:53Brian Baio, no thanks to you, But yeah, to answer your
- 4:59question. You sound good.
- 5:02With every day that passes, you know I did have the thought
- 5:05today. I'm like, you know, I I'm an
- 5:08Alex Korra guy, as you can see right here.
- 5:11Shout out YouTube if you watch on YouTube, huge Alex Korra guy
- 5:15and I will be as long as he doesn't get any hot water for
- 5:19anything. But it's it's gotten to a point
- 5:27for me where I was like some of the answers were getting a
- 5:30little stale. And, you know, they always talk
- 5:33about needing, needing to sort of reset the cycle every so many
- 5:38years for not just managing a baseball team, but just so many
- 5:43things. You know, after a while, you
- 5:44just need to sort of hit the reset button.
- 5:46And I'm not saying that I think that's what should have happened
- 5:48here, but I could maybe understand the logic.
- 5:51I just think Craig Breslio needs to be out, that's all.
- 5:55Weren't there like parts of his his quotes that came out in the
- 6:00press or after of of him Like like basically talking about how
- 6:05the roster configuration like isn't like Carrabba's was on MLB
- 6:10Network and I watched bits and pieces of that and he's like the
- 6:13issues with the Red Sox have been like known like it.
- 6:16These are these have been issues for your Your log jam in the
- 6:21outfield has been an issue the. I I saw it described today.
- 6:27That's all the outfield log jam descriptor, which like you to
- 6:30your point, has been known. But I saw today the the the
- 6:34lineup described as punchless and I'm like that that's so
- 6:39perfect for described there. We have no threat like you look
- 6:44at the Yankees, you know, Oh, they lost Soto.
- 6:47Well, apparently Ben Rice is like Juan Soto 2 point O
- 6:51apparently. So it's like you've got judge,
- 6:52you've got Ben Rice, you've got other names.
- 6:54You got belly up and down that lineup.
- 6:57Red Sox have nobody. I don't know, I nobody.
- 7:02I, I think, I think there's pieces that are absolutely
- 7:05coming and I think that there's probably a lot of fans of other
- 7:09fan bases that we'd be thrilled with those pieces if the right
- 7:14pieces stick around anyway. But it's it's just like the
- 7:21decisions that Breslow has made it it it felt like Alex Korra
- 7:29was the only thing keeping that team from like fully being
- 7:36pissed at the front office. You know, and, and what's crazy
- 7:41to me is that like, I'm not trying to piggyback off of every
- 7:46Carabas point, but what he said on MLB Network was like that
- 7:50front office refuses to like take a risk on a move like they
- 7:56they have to outright win a trade, otherwise they're not
- 7:59going to do it. And that's just not how trading
- 8:02works. That's just there has to be risk
- 8:05reward involved and you know, to not like the.
- 8:10There's got to be staying on both sides.
- 8:12Right. And, and to not like the
- 8:14conversations going back to this past offseason with like the
- 8:18rumors around Jaron Duran going to Kansas City and, and, you
- 8:22know, getting Cole Reagan's in return, like that stuff like
- 8:27it's just strange to me how certain moves have been made,
- 8:32certain moves haven't been made. We pivot from having to, you
- 8:37know, lose this guy and add this guy.
- 8:39And it's like not answering certain issues that you knew
- 8:42were issues going into last year, then last season happens.
- 8:46There's still issues. You go into the offseason, you
- 8:48still don't take care of them. You start this year and you like
- 8:52gaslight your fanbase into thinking everything's going to
- 8:57be fine. And then like, it feels like the
- 9:00one link that was like keeping that clubhouse sane is now been
- 9:05bounced along with his staff so. What I'm hearing you say, jokes
- 9:10aside, what I'm hearing you say is a non Red Sox fan from the
- 9:14outside Is that the roster that was constructed was garbage and
- 9:21yet somehow that falls on Alex Kora.
- 9:26You slot anybody, any manager, any managerial candidate in that
- 9:32slot to lead that team, you're not getting a good outcome.
- 9:39Nate's not hearing a word I'm saying because apparently
- 9:41there's another game on right now that's got a huge.
- 9:44Moment I feel bad for our guy JV that's all that was he's about a
- 9:47foot away from having a walk off home run yes that's what I'm
- 9:52saying I'm saying it didn't matter because it's like I how
- 9:58do you we we can go back for a while now and like it's it's
- 10:01just some of the bonehead moves where it's like you you move on
- 10:05from mookie and you get these pieces that are already gone
- 10:10that don't really make sense you you decide to not commit to
- 10:16Xander now the guy that replaced him at shortstop I believe is
- 10:21the worst ranked defensive shortstop in baseball at the
- 10:24moment you. Who I believe is pissed that
- 10:29extra pissed that Core is gone because Cora would go to bat for
- 10:32him, but now I feel like he doesn't feel like he has any
- 10:35positional job security. Because.
- 10:38Because Craig Breslow presumably does not like him.
- 10:41And he's and he's not really doing anything offensively
- 10:43correct. No, he's not doing himself any
- 10:44favors. No.
- 10:45Yeah, So I get that. And and that's the other side of
- 10:48this too, is that like, and I think I saw some Pedro quotes of
- 10:51like, players have to take some of this responsibility as well.
- 10:53Of course they do that. That's what our entire game is.
- 10:57That's why players get DFA. That's why players get traded.
- 11:00That's why players, certain players get contracts and
- 11:02certain don't. I'm just saying like the the
- 11:05evidence of this, this front office making the decisions that
- 11:10they have where they treated Devers like crap.
- 11:14They basically sold him for chips though.
- 11:19Half that deal is already dissolved.
- 11:21They're not even Red Sox anymore.
- 11:24You don't want to commit to the one thing Alex Bregman was
- 11:29asking for in a no trade clause. And then you pivot by going and
- 11:34getting an arm. And again, like I'm not, I think
- 11:39Ranger Suarez is good. I think every rotation needs
- 11:42lefties. But like a lefty in Fenway where
- 11:46you're going to see a lot of right-handed hitters going
- 11:48towards the monster. Like there's just I don't know
- 11:51what they're doing. I don't I don't understand the
- 11:54moves that they've made and I don't understand the directions
- 11:57that they're heading or not heading.
- 12:00I would be frustrated as hell. It's it's insane to watch from
- 12:03the outside. I still just don't understand
- 12:07how Aaron Boone still has a job. Well, I mean, they're, they're
- 12:11doing well, but I'm just saying like over the course of however
- 12:15many years you want to look. At we're the regular season
- 12:18bandits. Maybe that's what we do so.
- 12:20I don't know how Carlos Mendoza still has a job.
- 12:23I mean, we'll get into that, you know, maybe not for long, but.
- 12:27Yeah. I mean, JB, obviously we're
- 12:29we're two fans that are in this division.
- 12:30So what do you think of being as a fan that's not in this in this
- 12:36division? I mean, it tell me it doesn't
- 12:37look insane what the Red Sox have done over the last major
- 12:41stretch of, what, four years now?
- 12:45Post 2021, yeah. Well, Breslow came in in 23,
- 12:48right? October of 23, I, I believe is
- 12:52when Breslow came in. And so that, that all starts
- 12:55with not signing, not signing Bogarts, right?
- 12:59That's when he left. So that's that's where you
- 13:01start. No, no, that was that was Heim.
- 13:05Heim was the the Bogart's Craig's first move, I want to
- 13:11say was the sale trade. Heim Heim was was bogey.
- 13:20So this says October, Yeah, you're right, 'cause October
- 13:2325th, 2023 and 2023 was Bogart's first year, so yeah.
- 13:28So, yeah. So he can't really, he can't be
- 13:33thrown into that as far as decision making process goes,
- 13:37like Breslow's separate from the Bogarts deal, you really can't
- 13:42go back to that point. As far as the roster goes, I
- 13:47mean, I'm not a guru, but I picked him to win 95 games and,
- 13:52and, and win the division. So I don't think that this
- 13:56roster was built poorly. I don't.
- 13:59I do. You also had them in the post
- 14:03season. I know, but I that doesn't mean
- 14:07that I I think that the. I don't think, I don't think
- 14:10they are well, I don't think they are who they are now, you
- 14:14know what I mean? Like I think they're better than
- 14:16what they are playing as right now for sure.
- 14:19Right. And that's always going to fall
- 14:21if you're AGM or a whatever his actual title is chief baseball
- 14:25officer and and you think you put together a good roster and
- 14:31it's not performing and something needs to happen.
- 14:34That's that's your call to make something Kora going away seems
- 14:40crazy to me. And I don't think that what is
- 14:44going on in the field right now is is a Kora thing, right?
- 14:49This is this is a roster full of guys who are underperforming.
- 14:53You've had you've had, I don't know, man, I, I don't see it
- 15:01that way. I don't see this as a bad
- 15:02roster. I think that that I think that
- 15:04they've been good. Of course there are some players
- 15:07who've come in who I mean, obviously you want to keep
- 15:11Bregman. That's a big deal, right?
- 15:14And that's not on Cora, unless Cora said don't bring him back.
- 15:20Trust me, go get this Durbin kid.
- 15:22It's a good. Roster, if you're a low to
- 15:26middle market team, what I've said countless times, this is
- 15:30the Boston Red Sox. Why are we, why are we nickel
- 15:34and diming people like why are we just why is it an absolute
- 15:38must? Like Nate said, and as, as has
- 15:41been well documented with Craig Breslow's, albeit short tenure,
- 15:45that you have to win outright win every single trade.
- 15:49Like just go take a risk, go overextend yourself a little bit
- 15:53to get somebody that you know is going to objectively make your
- 15:56team better. They don't do that.
- 15:58They try to, they they lean into this driveline.
- 16:01They over lean into the analytics, they over lean into
- 16:04projections. Like just go, well, I've, I, I,
- 16:08it sounds simplistic, It sounds even old school, but just go get
- 16:11proven talent and stop trying to roll the dice like you're some
- 16:15Miami Marlins farm team. Like, I just be the Boston Red
- 16:20Sox. That's that's all there is to
- 16:22it. So if they spend a bunch of
- 16:24money, if they spend a bunch of money on known stars and they
- 16:30don't perform, then you're OK getting rid of Korra?
- 16:36Yeah. I mean if if the reasoning just
- 16:40or like if the if the evidence supported that being the move
- 16:44needed to be made. Like the Phillies and the Mets,
- 16:51it can happen with anyone, man. It doesn't.
- 16:53Matter the Mets get the Mets is a great example.
- 16:56Get good players. I don't care how much they cost.
- 16:58Throw money out of the situation.
- 17:00Money has nothing to do with whether or not your baseball
- 17:03team is going to win games. Zero.
- 17:06Look at the Mets. Look at the Phillies.
- 17:09Money doesn't matter. Get.
- 17:10Good players, but if you ran a simulation 100 times.
- 17:17I think the Red Sox are in it too.
- 17:19If you run the simulation 100 times, I think they're in a no
- 17:21no. I'm just saying if you're
- 17:23taking, if you're taking a team that's just filled the gills
- 17:28with money or or I should say has spent just crazy money and
- 17:32then a team that has not, you run that simulation 100 times,
- 17:36the team that spent the money is going to win more games.
- 17:40I, I think the difference being is it's kind of like the ripple
- 17:45effect of what it shows the clubhouse, right?
- 17:50Like, I think if you are a player in that clubhouse and you
- 17:56feel like it's kind of like when a deadline goes by, a trade
- 18:01deadline goes by and your team didn't add, when like everyone
- 18:04felt like you were one piece away versus when someone does,
- 18:09right? And so like for the Red Sox
- 18:11offseason as an example, and I don't remember the order, I
- 18:14could be speaking out of order of when they signed.
- 18:17But like the Pete, Pete, Alonso felt like the the most sensible
- 18:22pivot if Bregman didn't come back.
- 18:25Yeah, you missed out on Bregman. You think, OK, let's pivot,
- 18:29let's pivot to another big corner bat.
- 18:31You miss out on Alonso. Right and like.
- 18:34Then it's Durban. What does that do to the fate
- 18:41like the faith of that clubhouse, the the clubhouse
- 18:43faith in that front office, If you do spend the money and go
- 18:47get a piece that like is a great fit that you know is going to
- 18:51boost. And it just kind of seems like,
- 18:55like you said, like if it goes stale for a while and the team
- 18:58is sitting here like, I don't know what's up, but like we just
- 19:01need a little bit of a shift, not entirely blow up our main
- 19:06voice and our leader. And I don't know, dude.
- 19:12It's just like it's. It's hard to fathom.
- 19:14Give me going back to the the whole thing about spending money
- 19:17versus not give me the the proven talent and if they
- 19:23underperform, I'll be upset, but I'll I'll know that the ceiling
- 19:28was there. You roll out and you roll out a
- 19:31lackluster roster, poorly constructed, having spent less
- 19:37money than you very easily could have.
- 19:41The ceilings not there. There's a reason that the
- 19:45players aren't as good that they're not being that they
- 19:48don't have the same price tag is because they're not as good.
- 19:52And so the ceiling is not going to be the same.
- 19:54Sure. Could you luck into a team, you
- 19:56know, back on their way into the post season and going on a
- 19:59little bit of a run? Sure.
- 20:00But are the odds greater that that happens than a a higher
- 20:05payroll team is going to make it in?
- 20:07No. Yeah, I mean, I'm looking at
- 20:12this. I don't like the Wilson
- 20:13Contreras move, right? I don't like her.
- 20:15He's a one. He's he's a 130 player on the
- 20:18team right now. That's what I'm saying.
- 20:19He's a 133 OPS plus right now. And that's a guy that you went
- 20:23out and got. He's actually performing well.
- 20:26Trevor Story is is a is a league average hitter one O 7 OPS plus
- 20:31last year he's sitting at 45 and Jaron Duran has a 3838 OPS plus
- 20:40proven talent. Jared Duran proven no question
- 20:45about it. Best player on the team should
- 20:46be. Well. 38.
- 20:49I was of the camp that you would need to see, you would have need
- 20:53to have seen another year, maybe not like MVP vote type or like
- 20:58top five WAR Jared Duran that we got in whatever that was 23.
- 21:04But I would have need to have seen at least one more year
- 21:06before I I was, you know, throwing any sort of label
- 21:09around like everybody was saying you should have traded them
- 21:12after that year. Maybe you could have just gotten
- 21:14lucky and stumbled, stumbled into a great return.
- 21:17But I think I think the the smarter baseball minds and
- 21:21that's maybe what happened is that he maybe he was just
- 21:23shopped around and people are like, eh, this may have just
- 21:26been like a a flash in the pan. We're going to need to see a
- 21:29little bit more consistency. So I don't, I was never really
- 21:32in the camp of being fully 100% bought in on Jan Duran being
- 21:36this this stud. Even if he's not a stud the last
- 21:41three years though, it's been A119137118 OPS, but like he's
- 21:46still like it's not the 1:37, but a 118 OPS plus is going to
- 21:51play. That's a good player.
- 21:53Oh. Yeah, it's an awesome, the
- 21:54athleticism he carries if nothing else.
- 21:58Roman Anthony, who would be, you know, like Nate said would be
- 22:01the best place. He's 84 OPS plus like you're
- 22:05talking about guys that should be there.
- 22:08You Abreu still hitting, Rafael is still hitting, and you've got
- 22:13Garrett Crochet with a 630 ERA. Who just hit the shelf?
- 22:17You got Sonny Gray, who's on the shelf.
- 22:19You've got Luis Oviedo, who they brought in on the shelf.
- 22:22Like I'm just saying like, I don't think the roster was that
- 22:25bad. And really Bresla's the he's the
- 22:30one making the call, right? I mean, if Bresla says core is
- 22:33gone, Bresla's not going to say. I'm also firing myself.
- 22:36It's no, it's, it's less about, it's less about the individual
- 22:41names and more about addressing or not addressing the needs, the
- 22:45fits, the holes that existed going into this year, going into
- 22:48last year, going into the year before that, going all the way
- 22:51back to 2021. It's just this repeat like,
- 22:55well, we have a glaring hole here, but we're going to go get
- 22:59a bat, another starting pitcher so we can have pitch in depth,
- 23:04which isn't in and of itself a bad thing.
- 23:06But like maybe maybe that should be the last thing we do in the
- 23:11offseason. And maybe we should start the
- 23:13offseason by going out and getting an impact bat because
- 23:15right now we have none. But it's also the configuration
- 23:18of a roster. Like I'm not going to sit here
- 23:21and do the whole Red Sox, Yankees comparison, but like you
- 23:24did open that door already. So I'm just going to walk
- 23:26through it. We talk about guys right now
- 23:30like Ahmed Rosario, Jose Caballero, you know, like guys
- 23:35that are OK being that that bench role that understand what
- 23:39that role is. You guys have 5 outfielders who
- 23:45realistically should be starting every day somewhere.
- 23:48If it's not with your team, it needs to be elsewhere.
- 23:50But that's just who they are. They're everyday guys.
- 23:54And like who are Marcelo Meyer? Like can we commit to a
- 23:58direction of how we want to treat this guy when he comes up,
- 24:01right? What position is he going to
- 24:02play? Can we let a young player have
- 24:05just a regular position every day and play?
- 24:08And they haven't done that. And then it's just like, I'm not
- 24:13saying the names don't make sense.
- 24:16I think it's just like the lack of direction on roles and the
- 24:22commitment versus like, let's just constantly ride with the
- 24:25hot hand and expect guys to be off and other guys to be on when
- 24:30those guys are off. Like it's just, it doesn't work
- 24:33that way. You got to have your group of
- 24:35everyday guys that you can plug in 140 to 160 games and then you
- 24:40got to have your guys that are willing to play 80 games and
- 24:44really dive into being good at that role.
- 24:47Wilson Contreras is not an everyday guy.
- 24:50I think he's doing very well so far.
- 24:53But like, if that's your right-handed bop, I think you, I
- 24:59think you misunderstood the way this roster needs to go.
- 25:03That's the guy that guy needs to be playing twice a week, 3 * a
- 25:07week Max, right? If that's the role that he's
- 25:10able to accept, whether he's able to accept it is a whole
- 25:15different thing, but. Yeah, they're definitely missing
- 25:17that. I mean, I, I, I don't, we've
- 25:21talked about Caleb Durbin and whether or not like, I, I
- 25:24thought, OK, well, it you could have done worse.
- 25:26I liked them. But like really, I mean the the
- 25:30problem is if it's Alonzo, I mean you go back to Bregman,
- 25:34like why are you not offering the option?
- 25:37Not offering an option is something that that small market
- 25:41teams are afraid of doing. You know what I mean?
- 25:44And, and the Red Sox should just be, oh, you want an option, OK,
- 25:46cool, we can do that. So Bregman's really the guy.
- 25:51But if you pivot to Pete Alonzo, then really, you haven't changed
- 25:55much. To be honest, you haven't
- 25:57changed much because of how Contreras has hit.
- 26:00So you end up with just Contreras coming in every once
- 26:03in a while and you still have a first baseman.
- 26:05I'm not going to sit here and pretend like they knew that.
- 26:09Granted, we're only a month into the season, but I'm not going to
- 26:12we're we can't sit here and pretend like they they had the
- 26:16foresight to know that Alonzo is going to have a slow start.
- 26:19And again, by the end of the year, their numbers are going to
- 26:23look presumably much different. So let's just, I mean, we can't
- 26:27sit here and pretend that we knew that Contreras were going
- 26:30to be the team's best hitter. That and going back to the fact
- 26:33that like what does it do to that team moving forward saying
- 26:36we just got a guy locked up who, you know, let another franchise
- 26:42in home all time home runs right now.
- 26:44He's our first baseman moving forward and like that set,
- 26:48there's so much of this everyday lineup that like what set, who's
- 26:53set? I don't know who where does
- 26:57sedan make more sense playing second because you have so many
- 27:00outfielders is is Trevor like Trevor Story's set?
- 27:04Kind of, but he's playing terribly.
- 27:06So it's like I don't, it's such a question mark every single
- 27:10day. And it's just like you think
- 27:13that baseball will take care of itself and and the play on the
- 27:18field will solve all these issues.
- 27:20And it's like, I just don't think it will, and it's not
- 27:23right now. So to the Alonzo quote, though I
- 27:26was assuming Alonzo, I was taking away the the hot or the
- 27:30the cold start. If Alonzo's still hot, like you
- 27:33still take away Wilson Contreras in the starting lineup.
- 27:36So you replace a good hitter for a good hitter, it still doesn't
- 27:40help the team. That's that was the point I was
- 27:41making. And it's not like Wilson
- 27:43Contreras is surprising anybody. I mean, he's had, he's had at
- 27:47least a 126 OPS plus for the last five years.
- 27:50He's actually, I think he's playing pretty good defense at
- 27:52first too, isn't? He yeah, I've been happy with
- 27:54it. But no, it's more it's more just
- 27:58a it's it's more like Nate's been saying, it's more just
- 28:00about instilling like a little bit of belief in your team where
- 28:04it's like, Hey, this is a year where we we feel confident in in
- 28:07extending this offer to a guy like Pete Alonso.
- 28:11And like we we needed impact bat a corner bat and we went out and
- 28:15got that. But their whole thing of like,
- 28:17well, we just feel like Wilson contrary is just a good fit.
- 28:20OK, Like, whatever. If you if you believe that,
- 28:22fine. On top of that, like who's the
- 28:24leader in that clubhouse? Who's the voice?
- 28:26Don't have one, especially how many how many times have you
- 28:29seen extensions, you know, in season extensions of a player, a
- 28:33big contracts for a player and you look in where all the
- 28:37reporters are sitting and half the seats are filled with their
- 28:39current team mates because they're happy for that guy.
- 28:42Like I think there's definitely some things that that feed into
- 28:46that clubhouse and like other, you know, team mates are happy
- 28:49for their team mates and it's like there's they're
- 28:52directionless. I think they're voiceless and
- 28:56noncommittal and very many different aspects of that
- 29:00lineup. Speaking of. 30 minutes later.
- 29:06I mean, that's what you knew, you know what I mean?
- 29:09You knew it was you knew it was going there and it had to.
- 29:11I think this this one is way more puzzling to me that I think
- 29:16the Red Sox deal is, is the one that that really especially
- 29:20because it's not just Cora. Yeah, right.
- 29:24It's a whole slew of guys that were removed from that
- 29:26clubhouse. And that's the thing that that
- 29:30just doesn't make sense. I mean, I think ultimately, and
- 29:33this is, this is the last thing I'll say.
- 29:34Well, First off, I will say Nate, they only have 4
- 29:37outfielders now. I, I think Kyle will tell you
- 29:42Yoshida, he doesn't plan on being in the starting line up.
- 29:45So. But on paper he is like that.
- 29:48He's technically in that mix. So it's.
- 29:51Just right. He's not an everyday DH.
- 29:53Either no. That's right, that's the thing.
- 29:55So you have the three outfielders and Roman Anthony,
- 29:59who's the who's DA? And I know they're mixing a
- 30:01match in there, but Satan Rafaela could be defensively one
- 30:04of the top three center fielders in the game.
- 30:07I don't think you do that and put that guy on second base,
- 30:09correct? You take away a huge.
- 30:11I agree, I think it's just more of like an intermediate fix to
- 30:15the log jam in the outfield, that's all.
- 30:17I don't think it's a log jam anymore now that you got rid of
- 30:19the password. I don't really think he was
- 30:24going to be a a huge player, at least immediately in the
- 30:27outfield log jam, but to your point.
- 30:30Well, I think last year the conversation was that he was
- 30:32blocked. Oh yeah, yeah, for sure, for
- 30:35sure. Like he's definitely, he's
- 30:37definitely in the depth conversation.
- 30:38But I mean, just even with him gone, we still have just too
- 30:44many outfielders. Anyway, Speaking of log jam, the
- 30:52Phillies don't have a log jam in the managerial spot because Rob
- 30:57Thompson is gone. I found out today.
- 31:01How many times? Well, I guess it's probably not
- 31:03that many, but I I presumably have typed his name out a
- 31:08handful of times. I realized today that there's no
- 31:12P in Thompson. Really.
- 31:18Yes, Thomson. SON and I also found out which.
- 31:24No wonder he's fired. Yeah, get this guy out of here
- 31:28and more reason, more reason. Get him out of here.
- 31:31And I'm sure I'd heard this, but maybe just forgot about it.
- 31:33Guy's Canadian too, So no, I'm just kidding.
- 31:37No disrespect. He, he's a good Topper as as us
- 31:41Phillies people call him. He's a, he's a, he's a player's
- 31:46manager man. And unlike the Boston Red Sox
- 31:52brass who decide, well, no, we're not going to ask questions
- 31:56today, Rob Thompson made it a point that he was going to
- 32:02accept questions. He's he, he felt as though the
- 32:06transparency was something that, you know, fans deserve, players
- 32:10deserve. So he he accepted questions.
- 32:15But yeah, he is no longer the manager of the Philadelphia
- 32:17Phillies. Relieved of his duties on
- 32:20Tuesday. Somewhere in the mix, Cora was
- 32:26was asked by GM Dombrowski. Interesting.
- 32:36I think that was probably a good decision on Cora's part.
- 32:39Yeah, And what did I say? I said now he's he's going to
- 32:42want to go home, enjoy time with his family.
- 32:45He's a big Family Guy. And I saw somebody today.
- 32:48They're like, why would you? Hey, it seems today that all you
- 32:54see is violence and sex on TV. No, I was singing the song.
- 33:03I know violence in movies and sex on TV.
- 33:05They said movies. Yeah.
- 33:07Violence, movies. Violence in movies.
- 33:10In movies. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:12Anyway, anyway, yeah. Big Family Guy.
- 33:13Guy. My God, my guy.
- 33:18No Family Guy Family Guy, I saw a guy tweet today.
- 33:23They're like, would you want to be relieved from a dumpster fire
- 33:27organization and then take an extended vacation, a paid
- 33:35vacation to go home to Puerto Rico, or would you want to leave
- 33:39that dumpster organization and go to Philly and leave there?
- 33:42He's like, it's a good, good call on chorus part.
- 33:45Yeah. I mean eventually.
- 33:47To another dumpster situation seems like.
- 33:51From dumpster to dumpster. Whoa, whoa.
- 33:54Are we? Are we talking about Puerto
- 33:56Rico? What are we talking about here?
- 33:57No. No Philly.
- 33:58Philly. Oh no, yeah, well, that's that's
- 34:01the whole point. I it was assumed with not only
- 34:04the city itself, but the the team as well.
- 34:06I thought it was this. No, no, this is kind of the
- 34:09whole package. No disrespect.
- 34:12I'm sure the people of Philly are are nice people.
- 34:17I'm so confused. I whether you're a Philly fan or
- 34:19not, I don't know. You're really really throwing me
- 34:22for some loops. Here, I mean, I can be a Philly
- 34:24guy, but just also recognize that, you know, maybe the city
- 34:27is not. I'm like, great.
- 34:29I mean, we're talking about the baseball team.
- 34:33I heard, I heard somebody say that Cora would rather go home
- 34:38and spend time with his kids rather than spend time with an
- 34:42organization and their lack of kids.
- 34:49Yes, that means the aging result.
- 34:51Yeah, yeah. But here's the thing, and I may
- 34:53have even. No, I was talking to somebody at
- 34:55work about this that I think is a great fit for a guy like Cora
- 35:01who is old school in that sense. He would align, the visions
- 35:07would align a lot better with older veterans.
- 35:13And he's not having a babysit like he was here in Boston with
- 35:16this, this whole group of young bucks, which I'm not taking
- 35:19anything away from them, but they're they're just they are
- 35:22young. They they got a lot of learning
- 35:24to do. And you know, that does fall on
- 35:26the manager, but without a doubt.
- 35:28But you also have to remember some of the teams that core has
- 35:33been, you know, teams that he's managed, he hasn't had to do
- 35:38that as much. He just does the coaching on the
- 35:42field and he doesn't have to teach guys where to throw the
- 35:45ball when they get it in the outfield or, or when to run.
- 35:49Like, you know, things like that, that they, that these
- 35:51younger guys just we talk about all the time these, these,
- 35:57what's the word? Lack of development.
- 35:59The like the baseball IQ, it's just it's non existent right
- 36:07now. Some of these young guys.
- 36:08But anyway, so you were saying, JB, this is less surprising to
- 36:13you? I feel like most people would
- 36:15agree. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:19Again, though, and and and I think we disagree on this, but
- 36:24we're talking about two rosters that were supposed to win games.
- 36:29And when you don't and you should, these are the things
- 36:34that people talk about. I think again, the core thing
- 36:39was because it was, it was what was it total six guys just gone.
- 36:46Yeah, right. I I don't know including.
- 36:50Veritec. Right, which he was.
- 36:53What was that about? Reassigned and he just declined
- 36:56it. Yes, yeah, I'm not.
- 36:59That was their that was their way of saying you're gone.
- 37:01But we're not going to. We're not going to we're not
- 37:04going to put out a press release that includes the words Jason
- 37:07Veritec fired in it. Right.
- 37:09And he was like, I, I can, I've been around this team long
- 37:12enough. I can read between the lines.
- 37:14I'm a, I'm a grown man. I know what this means.
- 37:16I'm not sticking around. No thanks.
- 37:18And that's when he hit him with the thumbs down emoji, the Core
- 37:21or the thumbs down gesture and Core's picture of them hopping
- 37:27on the the private jet. I guess the only thing that's
- 37:32that's you know, when you think about it after the fact,
- 37:37Dombrowski hired Thompson where on the other side of the fence
- 37:42when we're talking about Boston like that, what wasn't his guy?
- 37:45And a lot of GMs come in and yeah, a lot of GMs come in and
- 37:49and make that move right away. But he's I want my guy.
- 37:52Slide into that role though, he was already there, wasn't he
- 37:55with with Gerard? He was, he was a coach, yeah.
- 37:59And he was still right. He I don't.
- 38:03Know. If he made, he was made the
- 38:05manager in 2022, Dombrowski came in the year before that, so he
- 38:10essentially then became the guy, but he may still would have made
- 38:14that higher. Well, he took he took over the
- 38:17same year they went to the World Series, correct?
- 38:20Yes, 2022 I I don't know the history of was he an interim and
- 38:25then hired or was he hired right away?
- 38:27I. Remember that he finished out
- 38:29the year and. Then so so still hired by
- 38:33Dombrowski, you know what I'm saying?
- 38:34Like they, they made it his guy. They regardless of, of of
- 38:42however it happened or whether he was there before or not, it
- 38:45still is, you know, it's still a guy that he appointed to that
- 38:49position. They still signed off on.
- 38:51Those papers, yeah. And he could have he could have
- 38:53that interim thing could have ended at the end of the year and
- 38:55he could have went and got his guy.
- 38:56He still chose him, his guy. I mean, I feel like he chose
- 39:00him. I.
- 39:01I mean, I feel like you have, and I'm, I'm having this, this
- 39:04same line of thinking not to keep going back to the Red Sox.
- 39:06But like with the Chad Tracy replacement of him coming in now
- 39:10from, from AAA, it's like you hear the interim conversation
- 39:17and you're like, well, is it going to stick around?
- 39:19Is it going to be the guy moving forward?
- 39:22And it's like, I feel like if you do a respectable job or if
- 39:26you even surpass expectations, I feel like the job is yours.
- 39:30Because how like, how else are you going to justify being like,
- 39:34especially in a case like Chad Tracy where you've got
- 39:37essentially the whole year? If they ride it out that long,
- 39:41they may look, I, I think I saw a report that said they may be
- 39:43looking at other options to come in mid season.
- 39:47But if you've got a full year and you do a respectable job, I
- 39:51feel like the job's yours in most cases.
- 39:55Going back to what you were saying, if you wanted like being
- 39:59old school and Alex Cora, you know, maybe fitting the Philly
- 40:03roster a little bit better. Hard to imagine it getting more
- 40:07old school than Don Mattingly. So what do we think of of that
- 40:13fit? Because that guy's very much
- 40:15always been like a shut up and just show up and do your job
- 40:18kind of guy. I think Cora is a better fit
- 40:21because while he he presumably resonates better with the
- 40:26veterans, he's still young enough that he's got that fire.
- 40:30Like he he get he can get fired up.
- 40:32Like you've seen him, you've seen him lose his cool on the on
- 40:35the diamond and and like he's still got that to him.
- 40:39But I just feel like Don Mattingly, especially
- 40:41considering he was he was Wayne retirement after the end of last
- 40:47year with the Jays. Like I, I just don't know.
- 40:51But I think that in his situation, this is clearly
- 40:54interim, like he's saying, sure, sure, sure, buddy.
- 40:57I'll help you out. I mean, his son is the GM.
- 41:00Yeah, which is just wild. What a.
- 41:03Great. Hey Dad, please stick around a
- 41:05little bit longer. Yeah.
- 41:09Does this basically mean a great point?
- 41:11Does this mean Don Mattingly is essentially running the
- 41:13organization because you get his son's going to tell him to?
- 41:18Well, what is Dombrowski's actual because he's still above
- 41:22the GM. Like a lot of GMs are the top
- 41:25decision maker, but when you start throwing in this base
- 41:28president of baseball or. The Pobo.
- 41:30Whatever, whatever it I, I said what the title of Preslow was.
- 41:37What? What was that?
- 41:38Chief operator. Baseball operator.
- 41:41Yeah. Something like that, whatever.
- 41:42So they're naming all these extra positions thing and.
- 41:45Wiper. Yeah, when you're AGM under
- 41:48that, I mean, it's it's Dombrowski's call still, you
- 41:50know what I'm saying? No, no, I, I thought it was
- 41:53funny. It's, it's almost interesting
- 41:56because it kind of feels like, felt like they knew or felt like
- 42:01it was at least a possibility, right?
- 42:03Like, obviously the expectations of the Phillies were high, but
- 42:07like, Rob Thompson was kind of on the hot seat.
- 42:10This isn't the, you know, this isn't random.
- 42:12He was on the hot seat last year.
- 42:14And it's interesting that it's like, did did they did they
- 42:20bring in Mattingly to soften this blow, knowing that there
- 42:25was a potential of letting Rob Thompson go before the season
- 42:30was over? You know, like, did they?
- 42:33I think you see certain bench coaches put into that role for a
- 42:36reason. It's just very interesting to me
- 42:38that like you've had this run it back mentality with the roster
- 42:42over and over, but somehow you brought in a bench coach that is
- 42:49new and can step in easily. My guess I, I could see that
- 42:55very much. I mean, who's to really say?
- 42:57But I could very much see that being the case.
- 42:59I my guess, though, is that they would have hoped that Thompson
- 43:02would have lasted longer into the season.
- 43:05So you're putting less on Mattingly to shorten the gap, to
- 43:10bridge the gap to the offseason to where then you could bring in
- 43:13your next guy to run the table for however 3-4, however many
- 43:17years you want to keep that guy around, I wonder.
- 43:18If that guy was core of the whole time and when he got
- 43:21canned, Dombrowski said. Let's make the move now.
- 43:27Well, he, I think the report I read is that he talked to him
- 43:31Saturday, Dombrowski talked to chorus Saturday when I guess all
- 43:37that went down for Boston. And then this was obviously
- 43:39before Philly's firing went down.
- 43:43So I think. But then once you're committed,
- 43:45you're committed, right? If you're going to can him just.
- 43:49Yeah, I mean, once you've made it up in your mind that he's
- 43:51gone, you're just like, well, I guess it's, I guess it's Madden
- 43:54Lee's job at this point. And they're just going to have
- 43:56to. I, I I, I think I said this
- 44:00Sunday, I genuinely believe Core's going to take the time
- 44:03this the rest of the season. He's going to go home, going to
- 44:06hit the reset button a little bit, spend some time with his
- 44:08family, and then old David D is going to come knocking.
- 44:12Oh yeah. That's what I was going to say.
- 44:17You think, you think it's there. It's done like it's.
- 44:20No, I, I, I wonder how hard he's going to push.
- 44:23Like Kyle said, I wonder how hard he's going to push.
- 44:25He's going to, he's going to push real hard.
- 44:28And I, I think Core is going to do it.
- 44:31I saw, I saw somebody saying the other day that that New York
- 44:35would be a more desirable position if and when Mendoza
- 44:41gets like, oh, I'm like, I don't, I don't know if I'd
- 44:45necessarily want to manage in that market.
- 44:47Like I just, I just don't. Know I, I think the Mets are for
- 44:51that team specifically, whether this is good or bad, I think the
- 44:56Mets have a front office that's more desperate and willing to
- 45:02ditch their you know what I mean, Their their current
- 45:07efforts or what they have on paper.
- 45:09Yeah. And just like try something new
- 45:10than the other organizations. A great point I did see today,
- 45:14though, is that Cora has a great relationship with Lindor being a
- 45:17Puerto Rico guy, like that's that's a factor.
- 45:20And he's obviously still going to be there for.
- 45:22Yeah, that's interesting. So that's definitely
- 45:24interesting. Do we think either of these
- 45:28teams are going to make the post season?
- 45:32No. Are we talking?
- 45:35Bill, he's in Red Sox. I feel like the Red Sox would
- 45:45have the better shot because of the overall still apparent right
- 45:55weakness of the American League. I mean, maybe it's it's levelled
- 45:58a little bit, but they're, I mean, the first few weeks into
- 46:01the season, the American League was looking dire.
- 46:05And so if that's, I mean, I haven't checked the standings
- 46:08today, but if that's still sort of the case, at least in
- 46:11comparison to the National League, I like the Red Sox
- 46:13chances just off that alone. Yeah, the Red Sox are only a
- 46:18game and a half out of the wild card right now.
- 46:21Right. And the Phillies.
- 46:22Are and the Phillies are sick in baseball.
- 46:26Yeah, the Mets. The Mets lost, so they have 20
- 46:30losses and the Phillies still have 19.
- 46:32Oh, oh, that's right. Because Phillies got postponed
- 46:34today, Yeah. Yeah, but they're still 6 1/2
- 46:37games out, 11 out of the division.
- 46:39The Red Sox are sitting only 8 out of the division.
- 46:42I mean, that's probably go, I'm sorry, the Red Sox are three and
- 46:45three games out. That did not up, that did not
- 46:47update fast enough. So they're they're only three
- 46:50games out of the wild card and obviously with most of the
- 46:54season still left, three games is nothing.
- 46:57So then what about the Mets talking about Mendoza?
- 47:01Mets coming? In to next, right?
- 47:03Oh, for sure. But it's just a matter of when.
- 47:05I mean, coming into today, Wednesday, tied for well before
- 47:10dropping again tonight, they were tied for the worst record
- 47:13in baseball, 10 to 19, I guess, JB said they're now 10 to 20.
- 47:16So owners of the worst record in baseball at the end of
- 47:19Wednesday. But again, coming into
- 47:22Wednesday, they were 30th in OPS, team OPS.
- 47:24They were 27th in average, 27th in homers, 29th in runs scored.
- 47:29On the pitching side of things, they're actually pretty middle
- 47:31of the pack, surprisingly. They're quite literally, I mean,
- 47:35anywhere from 10 to 15th in just about any statistical category
- 47:40on that side of the ball. But it's really just their
- 47:42ability or inability to score runs, produce runs is is proving
- 47:48to be their downfall right now. And I think, like you said, Nate
- 47:50Mendoza's got to be next. And I think it's just a matter
- 47:53of when he his quote, when asked about the whole, you know,
- 48:00dismissals of Thompson and Cora, he said it's a reality.
- 48:05It sucks what happened to those two guys, guys that I consider,
- 48:09you know, some of the best at what they're doing.
- 48:13You hate to see it happen, but you understand that it's a
- 48:15business and when you don't see the result, it happens.
- 48:18I'm aware of it. I'm not going to run away from
- 48:20it. But the one thing I can do is
- 48:22just continue to show up here and be the best, best for my
- 48:26players and get the best out of my players.
- 48:33Sounds like a guy that knows he's on his way out.
- 48:35Did Stearns hire him too? Just since that was the theme of
- 48:39what I was talking about. Yeah.
- 48:43Yeah, Mendoza's only this is only, what, his second year?
- 48:48Yeah. And and Stearns is pretty fresh
- 48:51too though, so I wasn't sure. Is it his second year as well?
- 48:57I think it is. OK, you might have a little
- 49:02longer leash there. I don't know.
- 49:07There's a lot of weird stuff going on right now.
- 49:09If you're worried about clubhouse stuff, I think there
- 49:12might be a couple players you could talk about.
- 49:16You're going to be a manager. Lindor is not Lindor right now.
- 49:21I don't know who he is at the moment and you talk about what
- 49:28we said, the positive effects of signing a a big player could be
- 49:33this kind of seems like the negative effects of bringing in
- 49:35Soto like it. Yeah.
- 49:40So you do, I mean you would like a manager that could come in and
- 49:43handle that sort of a situation? I don't know if Pindoza is that
- 49:48guy. I don't know if Pindoza is.
- 49:50Is the is has a big enough or us?
- 49:58How can I put this? I don't know if Mendoza has a
- 50:00strong enough hand to manage the personalities and the egos that
- 50:05a New York Mets team had or even not even just this particular
- 50:08team, but a New York market worthy team would bring in any
- 50:15given year. I just don't know that he has.
- 50:18I don't I just I mean you, you would know better, Nate.
- 50:22I mean, he was, he was with, he was with the Yankees.
- 50:27I'm going to go ahead and assume he's kind of taking the the
- 50:30Boone approach. But the difference is, is that
- 50:32it's just like the the there's so much turnover on the Mets
- 50:38roster and there's so much like, there's not enough like thirst
- 50:43for winning the Yankees in that clubhouse.
- 50:46And those players are like desperate to win.
- 50:49Like it's it's falling short year after year after year.
- 50:53And it's the same core. And it's like Boone can do
- 50:57whatever he wants. It doesn't matter because the
- 50:59players know that like we need to win.
- 51:02Like it's plain and simple. When you look at the Mets
- 51:04clubhouse, you're like, I you kind of question who's how many
- 51:10guys have that as their number one priority?
- 51:13And it kind of starts with your number one paid player in Juan
- 51:16Soto. Like it it kind of you, I think
- 51:19all of us can sit here and wonder of like, is that your
- 51:23number one priority? Is that all you want?
- 51:27Are you desperate to win? There's just a lot of there's
- 51:33not a lot of winners. There's not a lot of winners on
- 51:35that team. There's not a lot of guys that
- 51:37it's just it's about business. I don't I see a lot of guys that
- 51:42it's just like, you know, I make fun of them, but it like it is
- 51:45kind of a thing that they keep bringing in Yankees sloppy
- 51:49seconds and Devin Williams and Luke Weaver and Clay Holmes.
- 51:53They've been doing it for years. And it's like, I don't know, I
- 51:58don't understand how there's got to be a reason why certain
- 52:02players aren't signing there. You're you're there's a lot of
- 52:06like buying low and and hoping for high reward on a lot of
- 52:10different players. It's just strange to me.
- 52:15Go get winners. That's that's all they care
- 52:18about. Go get winners who are willing
- 52:20to call out some of their team mates in the clubhouse.
- 52:23There's probably not that voice in that clubhouse.
- 52:26There's probably no enforcer in that clubhouse.
- 52:28There needs to be in everyone. Well, I think Kyle said that
- 52:31too, or maybe it was you with the roster turnover, that that's
- 52:36a big thing when you don't have a leader.
- 52:38Because it should be Lindor and it seems like there's some in
- 52:45there who don't want to see Lindor that way.
- 52:48And I think it's affecting Lindor, it's affecting the
- 52:51clubhouse. But this is also a very good
- 52:53example of spending a bunch of money and have no reason to do
- 52:56it. They they brought it like Marcus
- 52:59Simeon was not going to fix anything.
- 53:02Like that's not Luis Robert is not going to fix anything.
- 53:07These these are players that I and I noticed they didn't, they
- 53:09didn't. They traded for both those guys,
- 53:11but they both come with high salaries and Beau Bouchette just
- 53:14wasn't the fit. It just none of it made sense
- 53:18from the very beginning. 100%. And it just, I don't know, it
- 53:22just didn't make sense to me. To your point that got 'cause I
- 53:27know you, you connected that to my point earlier about, you
- 53:30know, spending the money, overextending, making the big
- 53:32trade. I wouldn't have necessarily
- 53:35pulled the trigger on any of those names, whether it be
- 53:37signing or trade. Marcus sent me an aging middle
- 53:39infielder, Louise Roberts, way too much of A risk.
- 53:43Beau Bichette, you're going to bring him in.
- 53:45I mean, granted a case by case situation depending upon the
- 53:48team, but the Mets literally they brought him in to play a
- 53:52different position. So it's like that.
- 53:55I'm not just saying blindly throw money at people.
- 53:57I'm not saying blindly overextend yourself for a big
- 53:59trade just to do it. You have to be smart about it.
- 54:03But when you find a name that just make going back to Nate's
- 54:06point, Pete Alonso just was a no brainer.
- 54:09And the Red Sox were like, we've got we've got Pete Alonso at
- 54:14home with Wilson Contreras. This is a no brainer to bring
- 54:16him back if you're the Mets too. Well, they're just a dumpster
- 54:21fire. There's, there's, there's.
- 54:22Much toxicity there. There's no, there's zero
- 54:24enforcers. There's no one that's willing to
- 54:27just get in there and lay down the law.
- 54:30And it's so evident when you name all those names, Lubob,
- 54:36Soto, Beau Bichette, Lindor, it it doesn't has never really
- 54:41screamed like vocal leader. I'm the firm voice here.
- 54:45It's more like I just want to show up and have fun and play
- 54:48and let my play build my confidence and, well, I.
- 54:53Think team guy, but not leader that not that kind of a.
- 54:56Right, right. Not yeah, yeah, leader in a
- 54:57different. Way I don't want to take Team
- 54:58Guy away from Lindor there, but. No, not at all.
- 55:01But he's like. If he's not having fun, this is,
- 55:04this is what you're going to see, right?
- 55:06And if he if he's being forced into being an enforcer, this is
- 55:11probably what you're having to see.
- 55:13And so it's a weird sign too it. Was all strange, dude.
- 55:17It was all strange. Like, it's crazy to me, 'cause I
- 55:20can't stand the guy, but it's like, I wonder if Jeff McNeil
- 55:23was that piece that was like willing to say whatever needed
- 55:28to be said in that clubhouse 'cause he's, he kind of comes
- 55:31off that way. Like, I don't care what people
- 55:33think, they're going to hear my opinion.
- 55:35He's coming around on Jeff McNeil.
- 55:37He's. Doing the guy.
- 55:39Didn't he and and Lindor kind of disagree a lot, too?
- 55:43Probably I mean, and not to get like I'm I'm definitely,
- 55:47definitely, definitely not going to go down this rabbit hole too
- 55:50much. So please don't ask questions on
- 55:53it. We got to get.
- 55:54The next question of the week. I heard some stuff around
- 55:59Lindor's girlfriend or fiance or wife is like very heavy
- 56:05politically on one side and that may have caused some ruffling
- 56:11with Brandon Nimmo who was very politically on the other side.
- 56:16So you kind of wonder if like how many other players were
- 56:18rubbed the wrong way and if Lindor maybe is or some of these
- 56:23other players are overly vocal of how they feel politically.
- 56:26Like I, I think she's like a in politics though.
- 56:30So I think she's got like a very important role in politics that
- 56:34affects that. So I don't know.
- 56:36It's just it's yet again another example of a of front office
- 56:39that's tone deaf to their clubhouse.
- 56:46Good managerial discussion. I think we solved a lot of
- 56:52problems today. I I mean, a lot of this stuff
- 56:55was just couldn't have been more obvious.
- 56:56And I just, I, it just baffles me that.
- 56:59Get us on the freaking payroll. Front offices just don't see
- 57:02these things. Anyway, we got our speed round
- 57:07through the credit cannon, so quite literally speed round
- 57:11Spencer Torkelson. Spencer Torkelson, a Homer in
- 57:15five straight games. So round of applause for Spencer
- 57:19Torkelson. Eldamaro Vargas has extended his
- 57:26hitting streak to 24 games as of Tuesday.
- 57:28Are they playing? They're playing tonight.
- 57:30Has he extended it to 25? Do we know?
- 57:32Can we get a check on that? Can we get a check on that?
- 57:34Let's keep it going for the first.
- 57:35Time clap it up though. Eldamaro Vargas, 24 games as of
- 57:41Tuesday. If it's ended, what a good run.
- 57:43If he extended it. Keep it going kid.
- 57:45What's his? First name El Dorado El Demaro.
- 57:48I'll. Demaro.
- 57:49No, there's no G, my friend. G It's I'll.
- 57:52It's I'll Demaro. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:56Yeah. I heard El Demaro on the
- 57:57broadcast, so I'm just going to go with El Demaro El Dorado.
- 58:02Do we have a check? Is it at 25?
- 58:04Is it at 25? Go on.
- 58:05Once I'm checking good next one I'll I'll I'll hit you Gavin.
- 58:08Williams Gavin Williams is one of two pitchers with 50
- 58:13strikeouts this season. He's pitched to a a clip of two
- 58:16an ERA with a clip of 27 OA WHIP of one O 2 and as I mentioned,
- 58:22just racking up the strikeouts over the last three starts
- 58:25alone, he's racked up 24. He's already got two games this
- 58:30season of 1022, outings of seasons of 10 plus strikeouts.
- 58:37One of those came against the Dodgers by the way, to start off
- 58:39the month of April. So good for good for Gavin
- 58:42Williams strike out machine. And lastly, KM Schlittler
- 58:52pitching to a tune of 1/5, one with a WHIP of .7. 4.
- 58:58Pitching exceptionally, pitching exceptionally well.
- 59:04I, I can, I cannot tell a lie. He is in all but two starts, it
- 59:13appears, has a minimum of seven strikeouts, and every outing all
- 59:20but two. One of those two came against
- 59:23the Red Sox. Because he can't pitch against
- 59:25the Red Sox, I guess. I don't know.
- 59:26I don't know what happened, no. He went 8 innings that game.
- 59:32He shoved it up our butts. But yeah, pitching, pitching
- 59:35very well. Next start is Monday against the
- 59:37Orioles, so presumably we'll continue this streak of good
- 59:40pitching for Cam Schiltler. So that is our credit cannon
- 59:45segment. Vargas had two hits tonight.
- 59:48Oh, let's go. El Dorado.
- 59:51El Dorado 25 hit game, hit streak.
- 59:54OK. Now the important the important
- 59:59question. Yes, the question, the one we're
- 1:00:04all here for. Mrae's Question of the Week.
- 1:00:08Mrae's question of the week is Mount Rushmore road trip songs.
- 1:00:14Now I know before we hopped on here, you're like, we need to
- 1:00:16leave time for this because it's going to go forever.
- 1:00:19While I agree with that, we need to do our best to not let this
- 1:00:22go on forever because it's late and this this segment could go
- 1:00:29on for hours if we wanted it to. So who wants to start?
- 1:00:34I, I, I think I should because I have some caveats and you're not
- 1:00:39going to know most of this. I don't do.
- 1:00:45Song surprise you? OK, OK, I would love it if,
- 1:00:48well, there's a few. No, there's a few that you'll
- 1:00:50know for sure. But I I don't do songs.
- 1:00:53I'm in albums guy. I will listen to full albums
- 1:00:57every time. I do have most of these things
- 1:01:00downloaded so when I hit when I go to my downloads and shuffle
- 1:01:04all, they all come on. But some of my favorite albums
- 1:01:08ever. How the lonely keep by terminal
- 1:01:12forever phase is a new one by Paul Meany I'm I'm going the
- 1:01:17ones that you probably don't know King is my life in your
- 1:01:20way. Hold on Sir, are you doing like?
- 1:01:22These are albums. These are albums because that's
- 1:01:25how I do things. I'm not going to listen to
- 1:01:27songs. That's fine, but there's four
- 1:01:29just because. They're listening to records.
- 1:01:33I listen to records now we have like 150 records.
- 1:01:40So I'll give you some you might know.
- 1:01:42I mean, I, I should shout out the 37 secret and whisper.
- 1:01:45Oh. Yeah, shout him out.
- 1:01:47Shout. Him out Acceptance, Anchor and
- 1:01:48Braille songs for the late night drive home.
- 1:01:50That's a good album. Pucks in deep.
- 1:01:52Andrew Bell, Nightshade. Albert Bell.
- 1:01:55Some that you've heard of Coldplay parachutes.
- 1:01:59It's a very good sing along. Yellow with yellow on it, yeah.
- 1:02:03Boom boom. Is this guy no ball or is this
- 1:02:05guy no ball? No, I actually just threw out a
- 1:02:07a a cool place I think. Jimmy World integrity, Blues.
- 1:02:12Don't sleep on that album, Jimmy.
- 1:02:14It's my favorite one. My favorite one story so far.
- 1:02:17I want to disappear. The classic.
- 1:02:20One of my top probably 5 albums, The Blue Album by Wee.
- 1:02:25Hold on this. I got a big freaking mountain.
- 1:02:31This no. The Mount Rushmore mountain is
- 1:02:34huge and they still only put four faces on there.
- 1:02:37I had to ask my daughter how many people were on Mount
- 1:02:41Rushmore because I don't care. These are the albums I listen
- 1:02:45to. Hold on, you didn't know how
- 1:02:46many faces are on Mount Rushmore?
- 1:02:48No, I mean, I knew it was. Four, He's been out.
- 1:02:51But I but I say that because I don't care.
- 1:02:56Hold on, JB. That's we're just going against
- 1:02:58the spirit of the question. We're ignoring a perfect part of
- 1:03:03this question. A very important part is road
- 1:03:08trip. So are you alone in the car?
- 1:03:13Are people with you in the car? Is it your family?
- 1:03:16Is it friends? Because like, an important part
- 1:03:19for me is I'm trying to find bangers that the whole car will
- 1:03:24know, you know what I mean? Yeah, the whole point of it I.
- 1:03:30Think the road trip is like I want to sing along with with my
- 1:03:35crew. OK.
- 1:03:37Yeah. But the second you open it up to
- 1:03:39that layer of it, then the the, I feel like the, I'm not saying
- 1:03:47deep cuts, but the deeper cuts are kind of out the window
- 1:03:51because at that point you have to find crowd pleasers and a lot
- 1:03:54of those are just mainstream. Like most of what I just said.
- 1:03:59What? All deep cuts.
- 1:04:01Yeah. Oh, I thought you were saying.
- 1:04:02You know what I mean, crowd? Pleasers.
- 1:04:03I was like my brother. He had a conversation about what
- 1:04:06a crowd pleaser. Is like, I can play Buddy Holly
- 1:04:08by Weezer and you're like, yeah, I know that you know what I'm
- 1:04:10saying. But like outside of that, if I
- 1:04:14if I throw on maps by terminal, you're going to be like, what is
- 1:04:16this? Agreed, I do like that Weezer
- 1:04:19album pulled out that's. Weezer song Weezer's.
- 1:04:22That's one of my top five favorites.
- 1:04:23All right, so JB gave 4 songs in the form of a dozen albums.
- 1:04:29So, Nate, what do you got? I'm going to see if I can come
- 1:04:33up with. 4 songs, by the way. No, that's your turn.
- 1:04:35That's your turn. You you had your shot and you
- 1:04:38intentionally went with albums. A dozen of them.
- 1:04:41Yeah, this is, I mean, this is so hard, dude.
- 1:04:44You want. Me to go.
- 1:04:45Do you want me to go? Because it sounds like you got
- 1:04:47to dwindle down a little bit. Did you did you barely get to 4
- 1:04:51or what? I've got 5 look the the Mount
- 1:04:55Rushmore prompt is great, but that there's a lot of pressure
- 1:04:59that comes with that. Like I you can't hold me to this
- 1:05:02list, but I would I would absolutely go to bat for any of
- 1:05:07these songs. I don't think people are aware
- 1:05:09of the fact that like I would spend a full day putting a a
- 1:05:15playlist together for a specific road trip based on specific
- 1:05:19people in the car. That's cool also.
- 1:05:22Based on where we're going, that's a huge factor.
- 1:05:24It is. You're not.
- 1:05:25Playing beach music, going to the mountains, you know, like,
- 1:05:28it's just not, you're not doing that.
- 1:05:30It's hard to say, vice. Versa, I'm playing all these
- 1:05:33albums no matter where I'm going.
- 1:05:37All right, I'll go because it sounds like Nate's having
- 1:05:41trouble deciding and that's fine because he came up with a hefty
- 1:05:44list. First one for me.
- 1:05:47This one absolutely would be on my Mount Rushmore.
- 1:05:50Some of the others you maybe could be on or off depending
- 1:05:52upon the day. This one absolutely dire straits
- 1:05:56money for nothing. OK, solid, absolute banger and
- 1:06:01it's been insane intro. It's been so cool to see the the
- 1:06:05resurgence of this song on like trending audio on on like hype
- 1:06:09reels and stuff. Just insane.
- 1:06:11Insane intro. Another action I would say these
- 1:06:17two are permanently on my on my Mount Rushmore road trip songs.
- 1:06:21Alan Jackson Chattahoochee solid.
- 1:06:25That's a that you want to talk about a banger.
- 1:06:28That's a banger. JB's jumping out of the car
- 1:06:31continue. Fine with me.
- 1:06:35Sorry I missed it. I was I was trying to look up
- 1:06:37this other song. So just suing Dire Straits?
- 1:06:41I don't know. It's not playing.
- 1:06:43Oh my, well, don't play it, I'm not trying to get flagged.
- 1:06:46That ain't going. Another one for me, kind of a
- 1:06:54kind of a sleeper pick, but so this might be one that could
- 1:06:57fall off or on depending upon the day.
- 1:06:59Yellow card Ocean Ave. solid yellow card is strong.
- 1:07:04Yellow card very strong. Another one for me.
- 1:07:07This is this is definitely like on the bottom end of the list,
- 1:07:11but it's a great driving song because when I hear this song, I
- 1:07:14think of the driving scene from Field of Dreams, Doobie
- 1:07:18Brothers, China Grove. They they actually do, if I
- 1:07:23recall correctly, they do, they do an overhead pan of the van
- 1:07:27when they're driving to Fenway in Field of Dreams.
- 1:07:31And it's so that just makes me inherently think of being on the
- 1:07:35road. And it's a great, it's a great
- 1:07:38bop for being on the road. Yeah.
- 1:07:40And then a more recent 1 and I, I only put this on there.
- 1:07:45I yeah, I have a hard time saying it's Mount Rushmore, but
- 1:07:49it's a great driving song. Luke Combs ain't no love in
- 1:07:53Oklahoma. That was like my, I think my top
- 1:07:55played song of all of last year. Just a great, a great song.
- 1:08:00It's a little more on the aggressive side, so you kind of
- 1:08:02got to be in a certain mood. But I love Luke Combs.
- 1:08:05But yeah, great, great driving song.
- 1:08:11I don't know, man. But look, there's so many
- 1:08:13different factors. I don't know who's in this car
- 1:08:15with me. There's two songs that I it's
- 1:08:17it's a lock for me more than a feeling from Boston.
- 1:08:22I think is one of the greatest songs ever created.
- 1:08:27Should have been a cowboy. Toby Keith that I played that at
- 1:08:31my wedding and freaking sang my lungs out with everybody.
- 1:08:36That was a blast. This is where things really get
- 1:08:43difficult, man. Like, I don't, I don't know.
- 1:08:50I guess I'll, I'm just going to go with my gut here.
- 1:08:53I'm going to go higher Creed. Grace Song.
- 1:08:57I mean, I feel like the whole car is just going to be jamming.
- 1:09:02Oh, keep going, keep going. I I want to add.
- 1:09:07I want to retroactively add to my list.
- 1:09:09I feel like I'm, I kind of want to make sure I get a little bit
- 1:09:12of everything. Man, I have so many honorable
- 1:09:17mentions. I'm going to go ride with me,
- 1:09:25Nelly. Oh, it's a good one.
- 1:09:28That's going to, that's going to round it out for me.
- 1:09:31I have a lot of honorable mentions though.
- 1:09:35Should we run through autumn mentions?
- 1:09:36You got autumn mentions. No, I'm this is one of I cannot
- 1:09:40believe I forgot about this. This is going on my permanent
- 1:09:42Mount Rushmore list, so I've got a couple of those already and
- 1:09:45then my 4th 1 is just like a flex play where it's.
- 1:09:48Just really what I'm feeling. I would say my third Mount
- 1:09:52Rushmore road trip song. Phil Collins in the air tonight.
- 1:09:57I mean, you got to hit the drums, you know, I.
- 1:09:58Mean you and have you seen those things you can get for the car
- 1:10:01vents that you can stick the little symbol, you stick it in
- 1:10:04the the car vent, You just you nail it.
- 1:10:07Oh man, what a dream. Can I just run through what else
- 1:10:14I what else I wrote down? Yesterday.
- 1:10:17It just it they fell short, they fell short, but.
- 1:10:19No, we don't need a justification.
- 1:10:21Just run through those. Trying to see how people feel
- 1:10:23about it. I have Uptown from Drake and Lil
- 1:10:29Wayne, which is I think the best Drake song out there where the
- 1:10:37party at jagged edge and Nelly love that one big Nelly guy.
- 1:10:42That's the only two return of the Mac Mac Morrison.
- 1:10:46That's classic how you remind me, Nickelback, That one, that
- 1:10:54one could hit too. That was where I was.
- 1:10:56I was that with Creed. Oops.
- 1:10:58That was a Flex 1. Oh, throw 1 and honorable
- 1:11:00mention any man of mine. Shania Twain.
- 1:11:03I don't care, guy gal, I've got. One I've got one that's a little
- 1:11:08bit of. A.
- 1:11:09That's a. Banger a little bit of a
- 1:11:10questionable one as far as masculinity goes, but I've got
- 1:11:15one for you JBI Feel like you should like this or your head
- 1:11:19banging brother would. We've got no more tears from
- 1:11:22Ozzy Osbourne that that is a banger.
- 1:11:27Fat bottom girls Queen Regulate Warren G and Nate Dogg.
- 1:11:34I mean. Got to be handed about it, if
- 1:11:36you know what I mean. Got her kiss.
- 1:11:40Oh baby. And then my very questionable
- 1:11:45one would be drops of Jupiter by train I think.
- 1:11:47That's a great there's a good song.
- 1:11:49That's a great song. Just going to let it RIP on that
- 1:11:51one. So yeah.
- 1:11:53All right, so little. Can't you begin?
- 1:11:57Monday night went to the Pirates game.
- 1:11:58It's a 3 hour drive. Four of us guys went, me and
- 1:12:01three buddies. On the way home we did a thing
- 1:12:04where we just went clockwise. Everybody picks a song and used
- 1:12:09the best. That's the best.
- 1:12:11So I guess if you play that game.
- 1:12:13I picked Teske Brothers Hold Me. I picked Drive by Incubus.
- 1:12:21Nice. I picked Jason by the midnight.
- 1:12:25Don't know that one. I picked We Never Change
- 1:12:29Coldplay, which is off of off of that album.
- 1:12:32I picked Africa, the cover by Weezer.
- 1:12:36Better than the original in my opinion.
- 1:12:40And yeah, so I there were some songs there.
- 1:12:45Walking on a dream empire in the Empire of the Sun.
- 1:12:49Walking on a dream. And then I close it out on my
- 1:12:54street with closing time semisonic.
- 1:12:56That's a good one, very good closing.
- 1:12:59Time. Nice, hit it.
- 1:13:03So I yeah, but if I'm picking the jams, we're just doing
- 1:13:08straight albums and but there's some good, there's some good
- 1:13:12tunes. Buddy Holly, Incubus, Dr. I
- 1:13:14would probably put Jimmy World I.
- 1:13:16Know who I want to Take Me Home? Yeah.
- 1:13:22Oh, I just got a trading fantasy.
- 1:13:24That's great. I'd probably put Jimmy World the
- 1:13:28middle on A on A. I had a couple of those Tesky
- 1:13:32Brothers songs that you enjoyed. You in Houston?
- 1:13:35Yeah. Oh, that's right.
- 1:13:36We, yeah, we listened in Houston.
- 1:13:37Yeah, yeah, it's good stuff. Some good bops.
- 1:13:42So obviously like being that I was like in a band and all that
- 1:13:46stuff, like there's the deep cuts run pretty deep, you know
- 1:13:51what I mean? Because I got some, I got some
- 1:13:53songs I listen to of like bands that I was friends with, you
- 1:13:57know what I mean? See, I don't have a ton of deep
- 1:14:00cuts, but I have a very wide variety of bangers.
- 1:14:06I can. I can pretty much cross into any
- 1:14:08genre with bangers. Deep cuts.
- 1:14:12Depends. Depends.
- 1:14:18No Third Eye Blind made it. Like Third Eye Blind.
- 1:14:24Real quick, let's close with this sort of related, if you
- 1:14:29have one, what's this song that you're playing if you're trying
- 1:14:35to hit 100 on the freeway trying to evade the cops?
- 1:14:38Not that I would not that I would.
- 1:14:40I would recommend that or or say that I'm I'm a.
- 1:14:44Hundredths light work. Proponent of that, yeah, it's
- 1:14:46true. You're hitting that like in your
- 1:14:48Back Rd. neighborhood. Not anymore.
- 1:14:53The challenger, maybe. This guy doesn't stop.
- 1:14:57It stops. It's crazy.
- 1:14:59I, I already think I said, I mean it's I had to drive fast
- 1:15:09playlist when I had my Challenger, it was just
- 1:15:12specifically for speeding. So it was 2 Ozzy Osbourne songs.
- 1:15:19I got to say it's either it's either No More Tears or Perry
- 1:15:22Mason. Those are the 2.
- 1:15:26Yeah, I got to go with, I got to go with Vania, Strength of Heart
- 1:15:30or Advent Revival. It's got to be one of those two
- 1:15:33and those two. You know you love them.
- 1:15:35I don't know which one's the artist and which one's the song.
- 1:15:38Advent's the Artist Song Revival and then Vania is the band.
- 1:15:43Strength of Heart is the song. Do you have the rights to your
- 1:15:48music? Totally.
- 1:15:51Yeah, Yeah, absolutely. I can.
- 1:15:54I can play that right now. There is no copyright
- 1:15:56infringement on that. Can we just can we just use that
- 1:15:59as like the intro song now mine closing out with mine mine you
- 1:16:06you want to get me to go 200 miles an hour on the freeway?
- 1:16:09You just queue up ACDC shoot to thrill and it's game over.
- 1:16:13That's that's cars probably going to be crashed by the end
- 1:16:17of it, but it'll be a good time. When we hit record to end this
- 1:16:21thing, I'm going to play you Revival by Advent.
- 1:16:24Perfect. No, you're not 'cause I got to
- 1:16:26go to bed. Nate will hear.
- 1:16:28It. I'm just kidding.
- 1:16:29All right, that'll do it. Good chat tonight.
- 1:16:33We'll see you guys. Oh, no.
- 1:16:35Nate and JB. We'll see you guys.
- 1:16:37Sunday. Different time, I think. 3:00
- 1:16:44Eastern Sunday Clubhouse Keep an eye out for the boys.
- 1:16:47They'll be watching ball, talking ball, doing all things
- 1:16:51so. Yep.
- 1:16:55Maybe we bring Jake back. Yeah, no, he's, he said.
- 1:16:59He's working. Oh yeah, he said.
- 1:17:00He's he's probably out. Yeah, all good.
- 1:17:04Just you and me then. We'll see what I'm doing.
- 1:17:06Maybe I can make a cameo. Let's just get flagged by
- 1:17:08YouTube. Just play songs.
- 1:17:12Yeah, that'll do it, JB. Yeah, despite what some towns
- 1:17:19think right now, wanting this season to be over.
- 1:17:24Go baseball. Both teams that this guy roots
- 1:17:28for, it's great. Could you imagine?
- 1:17:33Could you imagine my guy Alex Cora leading Bryce Harper to the
- 1:17:38promised land? What a dream.
- 1:17:40What a dream. Well, whether you're awake or
- 1:17:45you're dreaming, don't go chasing curveballs, love.
- 1:17:48You on is always looking forward to talking more baseball with
- 1:17:50you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
