- 0:00This is after seven days getting up at 6:00 in the morning,
- 0:03driving all day, drinking all night, smoking their lungs out.
- 0:07Today on that car show, Precision driver and a Porsche
- 0:11brand ambassador, that Porsche girl, Laura Newton.
- 0:15We've got rallies, singers, French people being French,
- 0:19Italian cars being Italian. Oh, and Lindsay gets engaged.
- 0:24This is a fun one. Stay tuned.
- 0:27Well, welcome back to this week's episode of that Car Show.
- 0:30I'm Lindsay, and I'm here with Ryan.
- 0:32And tonight we have my very good friend Laura Newton, whose
- 0:35Instagram is that Porsche girl joining us.
- 0:38Hi, Laura. Hi, how are you doing?
- 0:40Hi. Good, Thanks so much for joining
- 0:42us. So I wanted to give a little
- 0:45intro about you. We met through Instagram.
- 0:49As all good things, you know, these days, Laura's a precision
- 0:53driver. She has doubled for actresses
- 0:55including Julia Roberts, Mary Louise Parker, Jennifer Connelly
- 0:58and Jennifer Coolidge, who is having a renaissance right now.
- 1:01Yeah. And Laura has driven in
- 1:04commercials for Ford, Ferrari and Mercedes.
- 1:07And she's been a brand ambassador with Porsche for many
- 1:10years now. She has an amazing Instagram
- 1:13account, That Porsche Girl, where she's made a name for
- 1:16herself with her unique, engaging content celebrating
- 1:19Ryan's favorite mark Porsche. Laura and I met through
- 1:23Instagram, like I said, and I think our friendship is
- 1:26emblematic of what the car world has meant, at least for my life,
- 1:30because we connected through cars.
- 1:32And the first time that we met, we talked for I think probably
- 1:36five hours and we never actually even talked about cars.
- 1:40Yeah. Because, you know, I think like
- 1:42Bassem and we've all said like cars open the door, but then you
- 1:46immediately start to discover common life experiences.
- 1:49I'm very lucky that over the last few years, Lara and her
- 1:52boyfriend Lee and their family have been amazing friends to me
- 1:55and my daughter. And at this point, we've been on
- 1:57too many adventures to count all over, you know, Southern
- 2:01California, multiple car weeks. And our most recent big
- 2:06adventure was retro mobile in Paris in February.
- 2:10Yeah, so it's true what they say.
- 2:12Be careful who you meet on the Internet.
- 2:13You might find yourself with a new best friend in Paris.
- 2:17Yeah. So welcome, Laura.
- 2:19Thank you for joining us. Thanks.
- 2:21For having me, I'm excited. I just realized it's that car
- 2:25show. First time I'm like, oh, we are
- 2:28right in tune with each other. I love it.
- 2:30Yeah, Was that? I don't think I realized that
- 2:32until today. I don't think it was.
- 2:35Honestly, purpose, it was that car show.
- 2:37I wasn't even thinking. And then you said that car show
- 2:39and I was like, because I said the other day, the best name
- 2:42again, I'm like. Tell me again, yeah.
- 2:47It's amazing how many names are taken, right, as you know,
- 2:50right? Whether it's Instagram, whether
- 2:51it's car podcast, but everyone's got a podcast, right?
- 2:54So you know. At this point, yeah, I.
- 2:57Know some of us have had three. Right.
- 2:59Yeah, it was. It was a very interesting
- 3:01discussion coming up with the name.
- 3:03And I think what was funny about this one too, is that we all
- 3:06thought it was taken. We thought we had reached into
- 3:08it and somehow it made itself known again to us.
- 3:11And we went, wait a minute. We love that.
- 3:13And the name was really everything.
- 3:15I mean, I was saying that to you because like to get that name is
- 3:18really, I mean, it just encompasses everything too,
- 3:20because I, I've even said to you, I wish I was that car girl
- 3:24instead of that Porsche girl. And you know, and I've said that
- 3:28since the beginning because, you know, it really limits you, but
- 3:32it also puts you in a situation where other people like they
- 3:35know of you as that one entity, but it also does stick.
- 3:39So I've found out to use you my name and I keep going back to
- 3:44it, you know, and and just because also now everything's
- 3:47been built under that name. So like any Google searches, Is
- 3:51that so? I just feel like I'm going to
- 3:54stick with it. Absolutely.
- 3:55That's who we know you as. We've got a ton of followers, so
- 3:59yeah, yeah. How'd this also?
- 4:00Something wrong, lady? Yeah, yeah.
- 4:02Share. A little bit about like your
- 4:05background, what you do, you know, up to this point and then
- 4:09how you got into Instagram and like, were you always into cars?
- 4:14Well, always, I mean, I think I've said this on every podcast,
- 4:17so it's a little boring if anybody's seen any other ones.
- 4:20But I I've just always been into cars since I was like 12 years
- 4:24old. But even before that, I remember
- 4:25being five years old and I think I've told this this story as
- 4:30well, but I I saw like a giant race truck and I was like, that
- 4:35person looks so cool. And it's not my aesthetic at
- 4:37all. But at the time I don't.
- 4:40Think I've ever heard that part. It's, it stood out so much.
- 4:43And I was like, oh, it'd be so cool, you know, like maybe
- 4:47someone was making fun of me that day if my mom just drove up
- 4:49in a big race truck and then I got in with my 27 brothers, you
- 4:54know, and my brother would never have defended me.
- 4:56He'd be like. And.
- 4:57Stupid so I I was kind of impressed by that from a
- 5:03neighbor of a friend of mine who had one I was like, I wish that
- 5:07was mine that's. What I need?
- 5:09That would do every everybody so like impressed.
- 5:12That would fix it. And then at 12:00, I've always
- 5:17really what started was my mom used to hand the wheel to me
- 5:20when I was really little, like 5 and 6.
- 5:24I was shifting and she'd go OK shift from first to second, OK
- 5:302nd to 3rd and she would be doing her makeup and and.
- 5:34What were you driving? Started to interrupt, but like
- 5:36what were you driving at the time?
- 5:37Were you? Shifting hate me the first one.
- 5:40Oh well, you know what? This is really going to date me
- 5:42because it was it was 3 on the tree.
- 5:45Oh wow. OK.
- 5:47And then she had a Chevette and sure.
- 5:51Yeah. No, it's.
- 5:52I don't know. I don't know if I was still
- 5:54yeah, I think that was still stick.
- 5:56And then yeah, it was for sure because I used to drove, I drove
- 5:59it around the block and almost got in a car accident with it,
- 6:03but. That's neither here nor there at
- 6:06this point. The limitations and all that in
- 6:09the long. Past imagine this is like her,
- 6:11her mirror, you know, and she'd go grab the wheel and she would
- 6:15do her makeup. And so I just needed to grab the
- 6:18wheel and she did it one time to a friend of mine.
- 6:21She's like grab the wheel and she the girl was 16 and had a
- 6:23license and she goes, she just grabbed the wheel like and we
- 6:28just headed off the road, you know, and I'm like, Oh my God,
- 6:31what is wrong with you? And she goes, why did you do
- 6:34that? Just grab the wheel, like, what
- 6:37are you doing? And I was like.
- 6:38You can't. You can't just pass the wheel to
- 6:40anyone in the car. It has to be a trained precision
- 6:44driver. But then it kind of shifted
- 6:47because my, my mom has a friend and she, I was 12 years old and
- 6:54she was going to go over and have a glass of wine with her
- 6:56friend who just got a car. And she's like, come on over.
- 6:58I just bought this car and she was a single woman.
- 7:01She didn't have a husband. I say this all the time.
- 7:04This is because this is really the origin story of Porsche for
- 7:07me. And she, we went over there and
- 7:11she had a brand new Porsche. And I was like, Oh yeah, like,
- 7:16you know, I and I'm not married. Yeah, I can have one too,
- 7:20because all the wives in our neighborhood had the minivans
- 7:23and the, and the, you know, the SU VS and stuff.
- 7:26And I was like, oh, she's, she's an executive.
- 7:30She's like, she's like a man. Like this is really cool.
- 7:34And so she was, she was just. And she wasn't, I always say
- 7:37this, it's terrible because. But I say it because she wasn't
- 7:41like this beautiful Barbie doll. She was like kind of very like,
- 7:45you know, executive lady, you know, and real found her so and
- 7:49just it was like I was just completely enthralled by it and
- 7:52I was like, someday I'm going to own one too.
- 7:54And it really was like to the point.
- 7:57That was your taproot. That was your taproot portion.
- 8:00It really was. And the first time I drove 1, I
- 8:03think I was, I was 21 and I was so excited.
- 8:08And I was my boyfriend car. He was a rich kid and I I was
- 8:12driving it everywhere. And I passed him twice on
- 8:14Beverly Blvd. He was at lunch.
- 8:16He's like, you're really enjoying the car, huh?
- 8:17I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I can get used to like,
- 8:21yeah, you're going everywhere. I'm like, yeah, that's right.
- 8:24But as as a kid who grew up with like Chevettes and minivans, I
- 8:27mean, that was like a spaceship. I remember, remember that we, we
- 8:30had Volkswagens, right? Like diesel Volkswagens.
- 8:32Then we had a neighbor that had a 9/11 turbo, right?
- 8:35Oh, yeah. That was just what is.
- 8:36Yeah, yeah, yeah. Aspirational and.
- 8:39I had a neighbor that worked for DeLorean.
- 8:41He had a DeLorean. Were you kidding?
- 8:42Yeah. And then the whole scandal was
- 8:44coming out and he had the DeLorean in the neighborhood.
- 8:46It was really funny. But yeah, so we like.
- 8:50Yeah, it was. That's pretty wild that you saw
- 8:53one being used in real life because I mean, yeah, like a
- 8:55data. Yeah.
- 8:56I mean, you know, my reference for them is obviously Back to
- 8:59the Future and then like as collector cars, but to see one
- 9:03actually in real life is pretty unique.
- 9:05Yeah, yeah, it really was. I don't think I had ever seen
- 9:08one before or after for a long time.
- 9:10Talk about spaceship you. Know yeah, I was pretty young at
- 9:14that time but I didn't really log it in but I was always
- 9:17enthralled by cars so I knew you know my mom would be like how do
- 9:20you know What Car that is and I'm like I don't like you just
- 9:23don't know just. It's just a thing, isn't it?
- 9:25It's like built in, isn't it? It's yeah.
- 9:28I mean, it really is like, are there other hobbies where it's
- 9:31in our DNA like that? Because you think about, you
- 9:34know, I mean, even my dad where like he's the one that exposed
- 9:36me to the car hobby. Like his parents were not into
- 9:39cars. He has always been a car guy,
- 9:42like always, always. And so it's, you know, you just
- 9:45never know. But I think you really are born
- 9:47a car person And it it just depends on when you put it
- 9:50together yourself and realize, yeah, that's where your passion
- 9:53is. And did you grew up in in sorry,
- 9:56Socal or? Yeah, yeah.
- 9:57So, OK, so there were cars around and yeah.
- 10:00Yeah, we saw them. I mean, we definitely saw like a
- 10:02lot of Mercedes, a lot of you know, Porsches and stuff like
- 10:05that. But you know, so I did get to
- 10:08see them. It wasn't like I was so
- 10:09enthralled with I I really liked how they were fast, but I wasn't
- 10:14one. Believe it or not, after the
- 10:16monster truck situation, which. You're going to have to check
- 10:20that box eventually, right? I mean, I'm glad I did early,
- 10:26but it was, you know, it was just we saw them all the time.
- 10:31Like we saw nice cars and stuff like that.
- 10:32But so I haven't ever been very obsessed with cars in that way
- 10:36of like when I see a car, like when people are like really
- 10:39trying to impress me. Like where do you see this
- 10:40collection? I'll go.
- 10:42I've seen it probably. Well.
- 10:45It's like we talk about that. I mean, I think you and I are
- 10:48very aware of how lucky we are to get to see the stuff that we
- 10:51see in Southern California, in Orange County and Los Angeles,
- 10:54particularly just driving around.
- 10:56I mean, I've said before Car Week last year, I was at a
- 10:59stoplight and realized there was a Koenigsegg like at the other
- 11:02light, just just sitting there. And I think what's funny is
- 11:06Laura and I laugh and we go, It would be really easy to get
- 11:09like, bored almost because you go like we're seeing, you know,
- 11:12you go to Newport. If you don't see a Ferrari
- 11:14within 5 minutes, something's off the universe.
- 11:17I mean, I always have my phone kind of ready to get catched,
- 11:19you know, I'll be driving all like, oh, there as, you know, I
- 11:21get something I don't. When you catch all these, I'm
- 11:23like, you have to be ready, you know?
- 11:25Yeah, well, in like years of practice and if you're
- 11:27surrounded by them, you get really good at it because it's
- 11:30like Derek Powell and I were laughing about it the other day.
- 11:32Like the rage that you feel as a car person when you try to catch
- 11:35a picture of something and you miss it and you're just like.
- 11:39Isn't it interesting though, how like just the term exotic car
- 11:41has really fallen out of favor? Like when we were young.
- 11:44I mean, these were well. It meant this was something too.
- 11:47They weren't really. They weren't commodity cars,
- 11:49right? Yeah.
- 11:51And the people that bought them, I think in a lot of ways they
- 11:54actually drove them. Whereas now it's like it's the
- 11:5710th car or the 20th car and they're like, yeah, we just, we
- 12:00need one of those and like nobody's ever going to drive it.
- 12:03That's it's, it's different now for sure.
- 12:06But you know, but we also like even getting to see all these
- 12:11amazing things. I think the TrueCar people,
- 12:13like, we still appreciate it. We still get excited about it,
- 12:16even if it's the 10th or 20th one we've seen because we do
- 12:19understand we're. Lunatics too, like we go to
- 12:22brunch all the time and or drinks or whatever right over by
- 12:27my house and like any car that goes by, we're both like so
- 12:31yeah, I mean so we both at the same time and SO2 car people is
- 12:39really obnoxious. Right.
- 12:40Yeah. Like it's a miracle if we finish
- 12:43the sentence, right? Yeah, we don't.
- 12:44Like, especially because a lot of the cars, you hear them
- 12:46coming and so we're both at the window.
- 12:47Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, it's something good.
- 12:49What have you seen recently that's really like off the
- 12:52charts? Oh wow.
- 12:56Well. Put you on the spot, but.
- 12:58Well, I was recently. Got back from Europe too.
- 13:01So well, yeah, yeah. Talk about that then.
- 13:03Yeah. It's well, let's talk about that
- 13:04because I, I mean, the, the cars that I saw in it was funny
- 13:08because in, even in Paris, there's a lot of Porsches and
- 13:11things like that. But but actually I went days and
- 13:16days without seeing them sometimes because I was staying
- 13:18up in different areas like Montmartre and like not just it
- 13:21wasn't more where people cruise around, you know, if you go down
- 13:25to the east less. Car heavy, Yeah.
- 13:27So, but yeah, we, I went to go to a rally called Torto.
- 13:35It's looks like Tor Auto and it's Petro Auto which looks like
- 13:40Peter Auto. That's my new Instagram account.
- 13:45Because I was like Peter Auto and they're like, oh, Petro
- 13:47Auto. And I was.
- 13:48Like that's exactly what I said. Yes, that's correct.
- 13:53That's funny. That group owns many, many
- 13:55rallies and, and like I think even Le Mans Classic and all
- 13:59those different ones, it's under the umbrella of Pedro Alto.
- 14:02So and so I went to do media on the Toro Alto when we chose that
- 14:07as opposed to driving it because it's very intense.
- 14:10It's a seven day extravaganza. It's just from Paris down to the
- 14:16South of France. Either they end in satchel pay
- 14:17or they end in Nice or they end in Monica or whatever.
- 14:20And we ended in Nice. And it was, I mean, from the
- 14:25second it started to the end was just my, it was such a
- 14:31highlight. I mean, I can't even say enough
- 14:34about it because it was so intense.
- 14:36So everyone was so close knit. It was a lot of French people.
- 14:41So if you don't speak French, it would be kind of awkward,
- 14:44probably because there's. A lot of time like eh.
- 14:48Yeah, no, I mean, even me, I speak fluent French.
- 14:51But when you're with people who are like, oh, they kind of like
- 14:55they talk really quick and they're under their breath and
- 14:56I'm like, you need to be like facing me.
- 14:58So I'm reading your lips as well sometimes.
- 15:01But I, you know, you get used to it, then you're like, all right,
- 15:02I'm in the groove, you know, have a glass of campaign.
- 15:05I'm like, I'm right there with you.
- 15:06That'll do it. Yeah, Yeah.
- 15:07So what kind of cars were these? Like is there a certain age
- 15:10group? OK.
- 15:10So like pre 60 or? No, if they have a time period,
- 15:15there was like, I mean there was such a mix.
- 15:17There was like old Ferraris and little Fiats and Mustang and
- 15:26sometimes. He just.
- 15:27I don't like Bush. Oh yeah, and you know a friend
- 15:31of mine, JP Gadjic, who is, yeah, he's ATV guy.
- 15:35Mustang enthusiast? Yeah.
- 15:37His wife were in this black and white half and half.
- 15:40They called it Cruella. Oh, nice.
- 15:43Like right down the middle of that's.
- 15:44French, right? Yeah, and so that was really
- 15:48cool. And and there's a couple of
- 15:50videos I have of him just blasting by us all in pit lane.
- 15:53And so every day is is a different track.
- 15:57And there's a regularity group too.
- 15:58So the regularity people are all tooling around in the mountains
- 16:01and people are just going balls to the wall at the at the the
- 16:05races. So it is so intense.
- 16:08And even as media, when we were leaving, we'd be like, OK, we
- 16:11can get to breakfast at this time a little bit later because
- 16:14we were up like all night just talking.
- 16:16And it was a friend of mine. And we were just like up every
- 16:21single night, you know, having so much fun.
- 16:23And then at the end, everyone comes back, everyone has a
- 16:26champagne. The cars all get disassembled by
- 16:30their teams. It's like, it's like proper
- 16:33racing. And they don't pull back.
- 16:36So a lot of the guys are real race car drivers.
- 16:38Like you can't just do the race section if you think that you're
- 16:41good. You have to be a real driver.
- 16:44If I would have been in regularity.
- 16:45So we were like, no, we're doing media.
- 16:47That's the distinction, so and you were in that group.
- 16:50So OK, that's. Fine media.
- 16:52So I could be whatever I wanted, but I was obviously going to go
- 16:55to the track and watch the guys and, and most of them were men a
- 17:00lot. Sometimes their wives were
- 17:02driving with them, but if they went on the track they just
- 17:03would have one person in the car at each at each time.
- 17:07Define regularity, like for people that may not know what
- 17:10that means. Well, they go around and they
- 17:12have like they have timed sequences.
- 17:16They do this in the millimillia as well.
- 17:18Time sequences where you have to stay, you know, going 17 miles
- 17:21an hour or kilometers an hour or whatever for, you know, 5
- 17:25minutes and then you go to 60 kilometers and then you go down
- 17:28to, you know, like and basically you want to be within a certain
- 17:32amount. Most rallies you can.
- 17:34Yeah, most rallies have regularity and or, or it's
- 17:37usually like millimillia. Everyone's doing the same thing.
- 17:40So everyone's doing regular on some courses and then you have
- 17:43like one track day and, and, but this one was everything.
- 17:49So I thought, oh, this is the track day.
- 17:50And then I'm like, oh, there's another track day.
- 17:52Oh, there's another track day in.
- 17:54Like, amazing tracks I'm sure too, right?
- 17:56Yeah. I mean, they're all like ones
- 17:58you probably hadn't heard of because I hadn't heard of a lot
- 18:01of them. But they're just in the
- 18:03different locales that we would go to.
- 18:04And it was, it just, it was incredible.
- 18:09I can't say enough. And then you go into a castle
- 18:11and have dinner and sometimes one does in a museum.
- 18:16Yeah. And you know, just like what?
- 18:18And a friend of mine is actually, I had done a rally
- 18:22called the Pro Rider GT Cruising, which is Jerry
- 18:24Blindberg, who does Wheeler Dealers France.
- 18:27It's his rally. I don't know if he's doing.
- 18:29I think he's pausing. He's he's doing them more in US
- 18:33now. So.
- 18:34But I did it in France with him a couple times and his I met
- 18:39Gregory Cohen. He's also the chef on for the
- 18:43Toronto, which he just everything was rolled out like,
- 18:47I mean, just top notch. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:50It's OK, we're friends. Rallies have really taken off
- 18:54though recently. You know, I mean, you know,
- 18:57there's the Colorado grand here, you know, there's a California
- 18:59meal, a there's the the copper state, right?
- 19:01I mean, right one and another and on the Peterson are friends
- 19:04at the Peterson Museum are doing some rallies.
- 19:07Yeah, more. And more moving forward.
- 19:08It's, it's such a great concept, right?
- 19:10Like it just works right? Well, Mara was able to do like
- 19:13her. I mean, she just got back from a
- 19:14pretty epic European adventure. Because you did the tour auto.
- 19:18Another one. You did a second one with
- 19:22Richard Mia. Yeah, it's a rally to Princess,
- 19:25but I I actually was going to do the same thing I was going to do
- 19:29media on. It's also a Petroto under that.
- 19:33OK, yeah. And so they own a bunch of or.
- 19:37I don't know how, I'm probably saying it wrong, but they are.
- 19:39It's under the umbrella. Involved, right?
- 19:41Petro Otto, Peter Otto for Peter Otto, we're going to go and, and
- 19:47so we just went to the opening night and had the, you know, the
- 19:51girls kick kicked them off. It was the first rally I ever
- 19:54wanted to do. So if they're listening, but it
- 19:57was the first rally. Yeah, we know they are,
- 20:00obviously. Yeah, it was the first rally
- 20:04that I wanted to do. And then I ended up doing the
- 20:06millimillia instead. This little this little thing
- 20:08called the millimillia, but it's a.
- 20:11Substitution. It's a girls rally and the girls
- 20:14dress up like, you know each other.
- 20:17So there was girls that look like bees.
- 20:19Then there was girls that are dressed up, you know, just in
- 20:21gowns or whatever on that night anyway.
- 20:23And then they usually have like matching racing suits or that
- 20:27kind of thing. So it's cute.
- 20:28So fun. Yeah, and then they had there
- 20:30was a lot of Porsches at that too.
- 20:32So I, I did a little story on my Instagram on that.
- 20:35So, but yeah, we'll probably do it next year.
- 20:39My friend and I, this is too short a time to really get it
- 20:41together and do proper, just get the proper car and do all that
- 20:45stuff. So, and it just ended up like we
- 20:48were so tired to the point where I was there for seven weeks.
- 20:52We were so tired from the first, the Toronto, that was the first
- 20:56week I was there that I mean, I thought it, I was like, I, I
- 20:59give, I was like, you know, you, you guys won like I am a late
- 21:03nighter, but you guys win. The last night we were drinking
- 21:06champagne for like 2 1/2 hours. I'm like, are we gonna eat
- 21:09dinner like you guys? Like, I get it that you're
- 21:13French. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:15I know my limits, you know, and I'm like, I can hang with the
- 21:18boys, but this is like, let's go eat, guys.
- 21:22Yeah. And then we all, I mean, it was
- 21:23like 4. It was, it was 1000 people.
- 21:25So I mean between. Huge rally.
- 21:28Yeah, it was. Well, it was between crew.
- 21:29I mean the cars, I think they had 200 and something huge where
- 21:33the million when I did it was 440, but so that's even bigger,
- 21:38right? It was crew and there was, I
- 21:40mean, there was so, so much to it, so much more to it even than
- 21:44the Millimelia, I would have to say.
- 21:47And I'm going out on a limb and I love the people from the
- 21:50Millimelia. So if you're listening, I just
- 21:52hope they're not listening. I think this is the best rally
- 21:56that I've seen in the world. So you've gotten to be up close,
- 22:00yeah. I, I, I actually Mark Oyon from
- 22:05Porsche Canada as the new director of Pedro Otto.
- 22:09So he did both of those. And so we became friends.
- 22:13We've been following each other on Instagram for a while.
- 22:15And I was like, oh, wait, wait. Yeah.
- 22:18It was his first year as director.
- 22:20And so, I mean, it was just done so well.
- 22:24I cannot say enough about it. I mean, it's just, it was such a
- 22:29highlight of my trip and I will be I will be doing it again.
- 22:32It's it is crazy like and you don't want to miss the racing
- 22:37because it's it's next level and there's real race car drivers.
- 22:41So it's it's really fun. Well, So what was the I
- 22:44remember? I mean, it was so fun, you know,
- 22:46following along on your stories and posts and all that and
- 22:49living vicariously through that. What was there was one event or
- 22:53it was one of the dinners where at the end they were doing like
- 22:55a seated worm almost or like mosh pit.
- 22:58Like what was that? That was last night.
- 23:01And again, she's like my friend. She's at her name is Meno.
- 23:06And she was like, no, it's just not over.
- 23:09No, no, no, no. So like, all of a sudden I'm out
- 23:14because everybody smokes. Everybody smokes.
- 23:17And I was joking. I said, should I start smoking?
- 23:19I've never had the urge to smoke, but people like don't do
- 23:21it. Like this is my first rodeo.
- 23:23Like, listen, I was what, all French friends at one point when
- 23:27I was with a French guy and I was like, I would be the only
- 23:29one holding the table when everyone went outside to smoke.
- 23:32I'm like, I'll just stay here. 12 of you, you guys go.
- 23:35So I don't. I'm not.
- 23:37I love that smoking lives on like it does in France.
- 23:42It's it's, I mean, I wanna say, you guys seriously, your skin.
- 23:48Yeah, ignore everything else, but like, can we start with the
- 23:50skin? Come on, I.
- 23:51Mean just for. I mean, I know you're not.
- 23:53It's gonna catch up. Right.
- 23:56I'm a negative poker, so you know, I like it's already abused
- 23:59my skin enough from being around me, but but you know, it was it.
- 24:05What was I gonna say about that? Well, that was the like mosh
- 24:08pity thing. Yeah, so I'm out in the smoking
- 24:11area getting second hand smoke. If you want to hang out with
- 24:15anyone, you got to go to smoke here.
- 24:18Sometimes that's enough, right? The second hand smoke, right?
- 24:21Yeah. I mean, I'm sure it's even worse
- 24:23for the people around, but anyway, so I, and I, somebody
- 24:28goes and I was like, it's like their last dance was playing and
- 24:33I forget. It was like, OK, I got to go and
- 24:37then I ran out and I got have my camera and everyone's like, you
- 24:43know, and they're doing whatever their chant is.
- 24:45I, I, I can't think of what the song is, but I've heard it
- 24:47before too. And and then I get up on the
- 24:52stage because why wouldn't I? And because, and I'm like, and
- 24:55everyone's like, because there was a couple people up on stage
- 25:00and then they were gonna crowd surf.
- 25:01I'm like, oh, I'm getting this like big guys, you know, going.
- 25:04To the wrong rallies. Right.
- 25:07I mean, this is after seven days getting up at 6:00 in the
- 25:09morning. Yeah.
- 25:10Driving all day, drinking all night, smoking their lungs out,
- 25:14you know, just, I mean, it was the most incredible thing.
- 25:17And so I go to go out, go out there and.
- 25:21And they're all the all of a sudden the lights go on, the
- 25:23band stops. Then now there's more music and,
- 25:26and everyone's like, they start sitting in like a like a
- 25:31centipede around. I'm like, what is going to
- 25:34happen now? This is.
- 25:37I can't even imagine right. And this everyone just starts
- 25:39diving on top of the the hands and they're pushing them back
- 25:43like this. And I was dying.
- 25:44And that's just. That's Livin right there.
- 25:46I'm just saying that's Livin and.
- 25:48Then we're doing it wrong. No, SO and it's like midnight,
- 25:53you know. OK, so we going to the club and
- 25:55I was. Like, all right, Laura, I was
- 25:59going to invite you under the I was going to invite you under
- 26:01the collar on a grand, but I don't think you're going to find
- 26:04that way too tame. I like there's no human
- 26:06centipede, no club it ends in. Centipede or nothing?
- 26:12I am like, you know, I, I I'm like I enjoy a good I come alive
- 26:18at night. That last night I was like, I
- 26:22just walked. I was talking to some guy.
- 26:23I don't know. He was just I I have no, if he
- 26:26stood in front of me right now, I'd be like never seen you
- 26:28before in my life. And we we were we were at this
- 26:33club called. I wanted to say hide but I think
- 26:37it's like, oh it's high close. The French hide that's.
- 26:41Right. And so, and it's got like a big
- 26:43devil's head in the middle of the dance floor.
- 26:45And then we go into this private section.
- 26:48I don't know, And there's a they're all with everyone's
- 26:51there. It's a huge club.
- 26:53And then outcomes a giant bottle of my way.
- 26:56I was like, guys, we really should call it a night, right?
- 27:01And I had a flight the next morning I'm.
- 27:04Like, absolutely not, no. I'm like, all right, hand me a
- 27:08glass. And then so I go and I was
- 27:13talking to some guy. I've no idea.
- 27:15And he I was like, what? And I was like, yeah, what, what
- 27:17again. And then I just go, I have to
- 27:19leave. I know I'm like, there's a
- 27:23limit. I'm, I don't like to get sloppy.
- 27:25And I was like, the time has come.
- 27:30My coach is going to turn into a pumpkin.
- 27:32I must take my leave. Yes, it was not bad and I want
- 27:36to and she was so amazing. She could have been a nightmare.
- 27:39We're like this went really well because we were we did not know
- 27:42much about each other. We had done one.
- 27:44We did the the pro writer GT cruising together, right.
- 27:47She's such a doll. I just loved her.
- 27:49She's she's younger than me and, and she, it could have gone two
- 27:54ways. I could have been like, oh, this
- 27:55one, she's a mess, you know, and me too.
- 27:58She's like, she wasn't sure she's like this.
- 27:59Could be we're just going with our feelings, you know?
- 28:03It's what they say, you got to travel with people to find out
- 28:06if you really are like In Sync and like learn about each other.
- 28:09I mean, we're like sisters now. Like we were, we were just, we
- 28:13just fell in love. We're like, you are just so easy
- 28:16to travel with. We were both on the same page.
- 28:18It was so cool. And then I walked up to I go,
- 28:23you can stay because I'm now I'm talking very sedate, but I have
- 28:28to go and I'm never the one that has to go.
- 28:31And she's like, oh, no. And she's she's 14 lbs.
- 28:35She probably probably 2000 glasses.
- 28:38Of champagne. She only eats champagne.
- 28:40That's right. No, she eats that.
- 28:43That's what's more annoying. And she's like, she's like, oh,
- 28:48OK. And I go, you can say.
- 28:50And she goes, no, no, I come with you.
- 28:52She's the sweetest. And she's like, we go back to
- 28:55the hotel and there was a vending machine with a
- 28:57charcuterie board. I was like.
- 29:01Again, we're doing it all wrong. We need Where are the
- 29:04charcuterie board vending? No Skittles for you for.
- 29:07You. Yeah.
- 29:08Oh, thank you. I was like, you're.
- 29:10And she's like just chowing down on this charcuterie board.
- 29:13And I was like, who are you? Like, yes, more of that, please.
- 29:18Come on. That's amazing.
- 29:19That is incredible. I got to meet her when we were
- 29:24at Retro Mobile and she was. Just delightful.
- 29:27Yeah, she's delightful. I mean, she's just the kindest
- 29:30person. She has such a good heart.
- 29:31And everyone, she knows everyone.
- 29:33So I was introduced to everyone. I mean to the I'm like I will
- 29:37forget your name. Like my sincerest apologies,
- 29:41yes, so. Lindsay.
- 29:43Lindsay is my you, you exclaim. So she likes to call me her
- 29:48inner ear because I'm like the, you know, politicians have like
- 29:52a body woman and I'm body woman. Like yeah, I lead and I'm like
- 29:56OK, we're approaching Mr. and Mrs. so and so and we met them
- 30:01at Car Week last year and they have the pre war Bugatti.
- 30:06And but and their their children aspire to be a dentist and a
- 30:11scientist, right? The mother does a wonderful
- 30:14sourdough, you know, like she knows everything about the
- 30:17family. I'm like what?
- 30:19I think my favorite, my favorite example of that, though, was
- 30:22when my daughter and I were on the plane on the way in to run
- 30:26sport. And yeah, and you mentioned
- 30:29Jerry Blindberg. He was between the two of you.
- 30:31You facilitated us going because Jerry had the tickets.
- 30:33And you? That's right.
- 30:34Which is amazing, I know, and I really want to do one of his
- 30:38rallies before too long. But so we were on the plane.
- 30:40We weren't even there yet. Laura was in Monterey already at
- 30:42an event, and I got a text from her in the air.
- 30:45Hey, who are those people that we met at Quail last year?
- 30:50Well. Janie and Bob, Yeah, Winston had
- 30:54the da, da, da. And I'm like, they were wearing
- 30:56yellow pants, correct? Yes.
- 30:58OK. They I'm like what is happening?
- 31:00That's a special kind of mine. Lindsay, Josh, that's.
- 31:03It's like she is an encyclopedia and I forget the 2nd and I
- 31:06really they say it's a wish thing.
- 31:09I really try. I mean, she I'm like, what
- 31:12happened? That I love.
- 31:13The intent is. There, Yeah.
- 31:15It's just, you know, I know Will Arnett was talking about it on
- 31:18Smartlist the other day because he has like, I have a good
- 31:22memory and I can track it back. I'll go like, OK, well, it was
- 31:24before this, it was after this. So that means it was October of
- 31:281988 at 2:00 in the afternoon, and he was doing that on
- 31:31Smartlist. And I went, that's the first
- 31:33person I've heard that does that outside of me.
- 31:35And then they mentioned it on some show too.
- 31:39I do memories, but I I names they just like it's a weird
- 31:43name. I just met somebody on the plane
- 31:46and his name was I. Have a unique name?
- 31:50Well, that's cute. Freddy, it was Teddy, I think
- 31:53Teddy. And.
- 31:54I like the bear. It's a weird name, and his wife
- 31:57was something that rhyme with Teddy Veronica.
- 32:00Teddy, I forgot, but her name wasn't weird.
- 32:03His name was weird. So I was like, Teddy, you.
- 32:06Gotta have a unique name. Yeah, OK.
- 32:08But so in between these two rallies, you got to do something
- 32:11that I am incredibly interested to hear about.
- 32:14You got to drive on the Autobahn.
- 32:16Yes. So tell us all about that.
- 32:19And this is where my brain is so stupid too.
- 32:21I went OK, so I went to go to Porsche Centrum Gelderland,
- 32:26which I'm sure you've heard of. Or if you haven't you, you
- 32:29should look. So tell us all about that too.
- 32:31Well. Actually, Mark Wig, yeah, Mark
- 32:35Wig is, he's become a good friend of mine just through
- 32:39seeing each other. He's everywhere there.
- 32:41If if there's an ice race, he's there with his five.
- 32:43Oh, OK. And but he, when I was going to
- 32:48do the Millimilia in 2022, I was speaking with Porsche and this
- 32:52guy was going to be heading to Stuttgart.
- 32:54And he said, I'll get you a car because we needed a car at my
- 32:58sponsor was Fred Estein tires at the time.
- 33:00And they, they said, let's get a car over in Europe.
- 33:03And that way we don't have to transport it or do anything,
- 33:05save a little cash and, and you know, we'll just get one over
- 33:10there. And so I was waiting for that.
- 33:12This guy was going to Stuttgart and going to contact me and I
- 33:15was like, I'm not waiting because I really had very little
- 33:17time because we had to have it in like several months before
- 33:20the ticket. It approved and all that.
- 33:22And even though we were in the sponsor, the sponsor like it has
- 33:24to be approved and FIFA certified and all these
- 33:26different things. So that guy went to shoot guard
- 33:32and you know, lo and behold, Porsche was unable to get me a
- 33:34car. But during that time, I put it
- 33:38on Instagram, they're like, we, we just, we just can't possibly
- 33:43get everyone. So no shade on Porsche, but you
- 33:46know, they probably could. I think they have.
- 33:49I think they have a couple and they're about 5.
- 33:51They're around. So they're like a girl?
- 33:54No, I'm just kidding. So but.
- 34:00This guy really went to bat for me from Porsche USA and I was
- 34:03really pleased with that. But at the same time it was like
- 34:07what? And you know, they didn't know
- 34:08what it was doing. So I was what was I talking
- 34:14about you? Got to know Mark.
- 34:15Well I put it out on my Instagram and I got 7 cars
- 34:18offered to me which was amazing. I was like yes and Mark was one
- 34:22of them. He offered a couple of like 550
- 34:25spiders and something else and then awesome.
- 34:29Yeah. And I was thinking I'm like, I'm
- 34:31already freaking out about doing Millimelia.
- 34:34You know, I want to be a female driver.
- 34:35I wanted to be, I wanted to do with another female.
- 34:38I want to be an all female team, which is weird.
- 34:40There's a girl named Laura Lara who who she she has an all
- 34:43female team, which is interesting that there's another
- 34:45Laura. So that's right, it was.
- 34:48Do the Laura Squared female team, Yeah.
- 34:50There we should do Laura Squared, but she crashed one
- 34:52year, so I'm like, well. Forget her.
- 34:54Laura crashes Long So Laura. And Lindsay, female team.
- 34:57There we go. Yeah, yeah, So yeah, that's,
- 35:01that's the knock, Knock. I'm like, I don't crash.
- 35:04I've never had a crash and I never planned to have one.
- 35:06I've been hit, but I've never had a crash that was my fault.
- 35:10So. So we were going to do that.
- 35:14And then Mark reached out and I was like, oh, I already have a
- 35:17356, but thank you so much. And he, you know, we just talked
- 35:20a little bit, you know, and we just became friends.
- 35:22And so he invited me up to Porsche Centrum Gelderland and
- 35:24he says, I have some things we're we're going to do for you.
- 35:28You know, like he's like, you're going to you're I'm getting you
- 35:30a driver that's going to bring you on the Autobahn.
- 35:34And immediately I thought, never bring, you know, like my brain
- 35:38just already skipped a beat to like, Oh, no, I'm not going to
- 35:41do well there. Well, and so Porsche Centrum
- 35:44Guilderland, it's a Porsche dealer, but it also has a
- 35:46Porsche Classic Centre, is that correct?
- 35:48And that has created the whole thing.
- 35:51Yes, I mean he's got, he is like Porsche adjacent.
- 35:55Like if there's God and it's Porsche, Jesus is at the right
- 35:58hand. That's Mark like and.
- 36:01And and God is Porsche. I'm just saying.
- 36:04Yeah, well, and he people, it's funny because on the tour toe
- 36:07there was a friend of mine, Alex, who his car after a couple
- 36:11days caught on fire like the second day or something and it
- 36:14was just finished. So it was a beautiful, the black
- 36:18356 and it caught on fire. They put it out.
- 36:22They were really quick to get it out, but paint was bubbling, you
- 36:24know, all that stuff. And he had to send it to
- 36:26Porsche. He sent it to Porsche and he was
- 36:28on the phone with Porsche and he's like, I'm on the phone with
- 36:30Porsche and, and I'm like, oh, good for you, You know, like
- 36:33that's great. And he was on the phone to
- 36:35Porsche. Centrum Gelderland, like so many
- 36:37people think that Mark, because he's, he will, he truly loves
- 36:42all things Porsche. And he threw, he has other cars
- 36:45as well. And he's like a VW guy and Audi
- 36:48guy as well. And.
- 36:50He he is like you have a problem.
- 36:53I've got it like he is one stop shopping when you go there,
- 36:56there is there is he's got insurance for you.
- 37:01He's got he does the PPF, he owns the detailing service.
- 37:05He owns everything. He owns a whole block in in in
- 37:08his area and. And everything you could do.
- 37:13And he just bought across the way to make, yeah, a
- 37:17Harley-Davidson shop like in and his place is so impressive.
- 37:21Like he it left me speechless. And so if anyone has the chance
- 37:26to go and he he does, I want to say, I'm going to say this
- 37:30wrong, but I want to say 300 events a year or something, or
- 37:36might be like 260 or something. He does so many events and, and
- 37:41he just brings people in and, and if you need something, he's
- 37:44got it. He's got every allocation, I
- 37:47mean. Well, and he's in.
- 37:50It's in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, yeah.
- 37:53And so I just flew up there and he rolled it out and just, you
- 37:59know, we every night there was like different team members with
- 38:02us at dinner. And, you know, I, I made really
- 38:06good friends with one of the girls and like, he always had a
- 38:08girl there for me. So I thought it was really like
- 38:10accommodating as well, just because he was just very, he won
- 38:15me over completely. Like, because, you know, we even
- 38:17said he goes, well, we'll see how it goes.
- 38:19Right. Yeah.
- 38:21I think it's the theme. We all say that to each other.
- 38:23We're like, let's go on this trip.
- 38:24And then there's a little side eye like we'll see how this
- 38:26goes. No, yeah.
- 38:27I mean, it's like. We hadn't travelled together.
- 38:29Before the same he's like, is she going to be a nightmare?
- 38:31You know, because this was a job like he, he basically hired me
- 38:34to come up and see it and expose it and show it and do it all,
- 38:37you know, and he doesn't need my help because he is, I mean,
- 38:41he's, it is just incredible. Like every car is just better
- 38:45than the next. And, and he has the set, the
- 38:48classic center and just every inch of it.
- 38:51He does, he does wheels, he does everything.
- 38:55And then there's a museum. So they're actually doing a
- 38:57separate museum in that whole complex.
- 39:01He's just kind of buying up building as buildings as they
- 39:03go. Makes a mean burger too, I've
- 39:06heard. Then I'm sitting at, then I'm
- 39:11sitting at lunch and I'm just talking about, you know, Porsche
- 39:15or whatever. And, and I'm with the former
- 39:17chairman of the board of Porsche.
- 39:19And then he's former CEO of Audi.
- 39:22And we just were chatting and I'm like, thank you for not
- 39:24telling me because I like to meet people that way where
- 39:27you're just calling, you know, And I was like, oh, shut up.
- 39:31Listen to this. If I had any idea who you were,
- 39:37yeah. It's the coolest.
- 39:38Yeah. And this was just sitting in the
- 39:39dealership. So there was one guy that was
- 39:40buying a car and there was one other guy and, you know, and
- 39:43then, and I'm just sitting down to a sandwich and, you know,
- 39:46just kind of just shooting the shit.
- 39:48And it was like everything was just, you know, I can't say
- 39:52enough about it. Like, I really, this trip was so
- 39:55epic. I I, I, I'm really had such a
- 39:58great time. It's.
- 40:01Well it was like 1 amazing experience after another.
- 40:03I mean just for for many weeks in a row, which is pretty
- 40:07amazing. It sounds like Mark's place is
- 40:10really a destination. Like you would not be
- 40:12disappointed if you made that a destination on a trip.
- 40:15No, absolutely. And it and also if you buy a car
- 40:19there that the drive well, I he set me up with the owner of the
- 40:23drivers that he sends people out.
- 40:26If you buy like a brand new 911 he gives you with the car, he's
- 40:31like, I want you to go out with them because they'll teach you
- 40:33how to really drive the car. And you know, I've driven
- 40:361,000,000, even 911 GTSS and stuff like that.
- 40:39So I went out in a convertible GTS and we, he's like, you know,
- 40:44took me around and he was having me break with my hands up and
- 40:47just showing how well the car handled and then pushed me to I
- 40:51everyone's like you're supposed to go faster than that.
- 40:53But I got to 153 miles an hour, which was really fast for me.
- 40:58There was a lot of traffic, like we were dealing even.
- 41:00He went out to show me some stuff on the Autobot and he's
- 41:03like, I'm just going to pull off because he didn't want to run
- 41:06out of Audubon for me to get up to my speed, right?
- 41:09And I just wanted to get over 150 and I did so.
- 41:11Nice. And that was a personal record
- 41:13for you? Yeah.
- 41:14Yeah, yeah. I mean, and I just blipped it,
- 41:16but I mean, I, I sustained, I was gaining like one 35140 like
- 41:21over and over and over. And then I got up to 153 and I
- 41:25was like, I want more. And he's like, he's like, we're
- 41:27running out of Audubon. So, and then you go back in
- 41:29there and you're like, OK, we're going 60 miles an hour.
- 41:32Yeah, it feels like you're crawling well, so.
- 41:33OK, So what did it feel like breaking without touching the
- 41:36wheel? Like, talk a little bit about
- 41:38that. Well.
- 41:39He, the guy was so good. He, he just really gets you
- 41:43there, you know, So he, we drove around and he'd be like, OK, I'm
- 41:47going to. He, he like when we're driving
- 41:49on the Audubon, I'm over 100 miles an hour.
- 41:50He's like, I'm going to pull you into this lane and then I want
- 41:53you to hard break when we don't have people behind us.
- 41:56Yeah. And I'm like.
- 41:57OK, he took the wheel. He just he to have anyone grab
- 42:02the wheel while you're going over 100.
- 42:04I was only going like 120, you know, I was sustaining 120 for a
- 42:08long time. He would pull it not not hard,
- 42:13but into the next lane. He's like we're going to do a
- 42:15lane change. How did that feel?
- 42:16Flashing back to that Chevette of your.
- 42:20She's been training for this her whole life.
- 42:22She. Didn't know it.
- 42:23I'm like, do I need to do my makeup right now?
- 42:28Yes, yes, you too. What?
- 42:29Are you trying to tell me is there something on my?
- 42:31I got something. Oh, hold on.
- 42:35So he he, he pulled it over into the next lane and I was like,
- 42:40OK, it feels like nothing. He goes now hard break.
- 42:42I mean hard break not he's like, no, that's not heartbreaking.
- 42:46He's like, slam it and I'm sorry, when you're going over
- 42:50100, you're just like, well, I'm going to ease it on and then I'm
- 42:51going to because I road, you know, and I just slammed it on
- 42:56and he's like, now what do you feel?
- 42:58I go not much. I mean, it is such a controlled
- 43:00car. It's the 2025 GTS.
- 43:04It drives itself like you get in a, especially when you get a new
- 43:06car. I always feel like just don't
- 43:08mess up Laura. And, you know, in Amsterdam, the
- 43:11roads are like really narrow. There's bikes everywhere.
- 43:14Grandpa's walking his dog. I'm like, OK and well, you get
- 43:18to flee. The country when all is done,
- 43:20like so you've got that. But yeah, it's you still don't
- 43:22want to. Hit anyone the like.
- 43:24You know Magnus can crash a car, but I can't.
- 43:26If somebody crashed the car exactly, we're screwed.
- 43:29None of the girls are allowed to crash, So what is the road
- 43:31itself like? Tell us about that the the
- 43:34Autobahn. The step highway Uneventful, but
- 43:39the. Legend is not earned.
- 43:41He was a really wealth of information and and he yeah, it
- 43:48was just a really, really cool experience.
- 43:50And his wife was on the side of the road taking pictures when we
- 43:52were going around and yeah, it was.
- 43:54And the the team at Porsche centric elder then also followed
- 43:58us for a minute, but then like we kind of lost him and you
- 44:02know, he's like, all right, yeah, so we but he he really
- 44:08taught you safety more than anything.
- 44:10He was like, you know, you shouldn't be on the autobahn.
- 44:12I'm like, first of all question the person that has trained
- 44:16probably better than most of the people.
- 44:17Right, I'm with a professional. You might want a Googler, But
- 44:24but, but also I was with an amazing driver that has trained
- 44:30everyone and it was interesting because he's a little bit older,
- 44:32like he not older, like he's not old, but he, he doesn't have
- 44:36readers. You know, after 40, everyone
- 44:37gets the readers out. Like I don't need them.
- 44:40And I'm like, I think it's because of, and I thought this
- 44:42was really interesting because he's always looking ahead and
- 44:47short distances and and it really does exercise your eyes.
- 44:50I said, I bet you that's what it is because we were discussing
- 44:52that. But because I'm like, it's so
- 44:53weird that you don't need any. He's like, no, I see perfectly.
- 44:56I don't understand. Wow.
- 44:58But yeah, cuz you think about the amount of time that he
- 45:00spends looking way in the distance compared to the rest of
- 45:03us is. Perception.
- 45:05Yeah. Yeah.
- 45:06So it was. I mean, again, I was like, are
- 45:11you kidding me? It felt bad getting paid to be
- 45:13honest. That's how you know.
- 45:17You're you're winning in life, Laura.
- 45:19Yeah, that's. You know, that's it.
- 45:20Was cool. I mean, they really, but they,
- 45:23and I'm sorry, I'm a talker and they're going to get their
- 45:26money's worth because I was wildly impressed with Porsche
- 45:30Central Gelderland I. Yeah.
- 45:31Yeah, I see a lot, you know, and you know, even like the I mean
- 45:35he had every Holland a police car and they let me drive a
- 45:41police. That's cool and.
- 45:43I did a police car and did a pullover, kind of joking around
- 45:46with the police car thing going around and.
- 45:48Again, you get to flee the country.
- 45:51Yeah, yeah. And then I had a GT3 Rs that had
- 45:55the little flowers all over it. They call it something blau.
- 45:58Everyone's yelling it up to the screen, but it's it's the blue
- 46:01and white flowers and it was all like a wrap on the.
- 46:04Like Delft? Potter.
- 46:06Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:08Yeah, it was beautiful, right? I know.
- 46:10We're going to demonstrate the inner ear right now.
- 46:13Yeah. By the way, it is I have a 991.2
- 46:17GT 3IN my drawer in my driveway right now.
- 46:19It's my buddy Evans. He's he shipped it up from
- 46:21Florida. That thing makes my GT4 look
- 46:24like a Miata. Like you forget like how like
- 46:27that's like that's heavy duty. Yeah.
- 46:30That's heavy duty. Yeah, I mean, it's, and yeah,
- 46:34I'm on these little roads. I'm like, you know, and you
- 46:36don't know what the rules are. You're like, wait, is that a
- 46:38wait? Do we stop here?
- 46:39We don't, we just kind of ease your what are we doing?
- 46:42I mean. That's like driving in Italy
- 46:44where you go, you come to a stop sign or a stoplight and
- 46:47everybody just dives for space and you're like, wait, there's
- 46:49no rules. This.
- 46:50Is amazing. And the Millimelia, I came back
- 46:53from the millimelia and I when or when I was driving after that
- 46:57I was in in Sicily. I, I went down to Sicily with my
- 47:00friend and I was driving and the light turned red and I stopped,
- 47:04you know, just to like, check. And then I was gonna go because
- 47:07in the Millimillia, you they're like, go, go.
- 47:09Bye, Bye. Yeah.
- 47:10And so I, and I'm like, oh gosh, I was gonna, I was gonna go
- 47:13through the red light, you know, because you, you get used to
- 47:15that for four days. You, you're going through every
- 47:17red light. You're going through
- 47:18construction zones. You're doing whatever you want.
- 47:21And then they give you tickets. You're like, the policeman was
- 47:23telling me to Vive, Vive. I you're gonna give.
- 47:25Yeah. That's your response to the
- 47:28ticket? I was told by the officer the
- 47:30official quote was. $40 yeah we got 8 tickets Lee was really
- 47:36well Lee we I don't know how many our car got because they
- 47:40are they paid them all but Lee got 8 and they paid those two
- 47:44but because he was just blazing everywhere just not realizing I
- 47:47mean it is very regulated in France it's very regulated I
- 47:51thought it was just sweet Switzerland because I I got a
- 47:54car from them and to 19/22/2022 and they gave me agents and that
- 48:03you you have to go 50 then 80 then 110 then 80 and then 50 and
- 48:07it's like I'm going to go after watching my yeah monitor it's
- 48:12the craziest because we don't have those parameters yet I
- 48:16think we're. Going to God bless the USA.
- 48:18That's yeah, that's. One good.
- 48:22Thing none of that yeah, very little of that I I should say,
- 48:25but that's so funny. Well where do you so.
- 48:27All right, so you do live in you're California.
- 48:30Yeah, I live in Newport Beach. Person.
- 48:31Yeah. What do you like to drive in the
- 48:32States? What do I what do?
- 48:34You like to drive in the states? Like where are your go TOS?
- 48:37Well, I live on PCH, basically right next to PCH.
- 48:42And so I'm always on there and it's just beautiful.
- 48:44Like you, you, you have such a variety going through Laguna.
- 48:46It's beautiful, but it's not really a great driving area.
- 48:49So obviously, you know, going up and doing the canyons and that
- 48:53kind of stuff is, is fun. But I mean, I've always been
- 48:57even more than just really wanted to RIP around.
- 48:59The car has always been a sanctuary for me.
- 49:01And so when I was mad at my boyfriend, like in high school,
- 49:05I would blast the music and I would go driving as fast as I
- 49:07could. I used to be very fast as a kid.
- 49:11I thought I was going to be a race car driver.
- 49:13I just didn't have a rich dad or going to pay for that thing and
- 49:19and my mom's car wasn't going to cut it.
- 49:21But I, I always look to it at his freedom, just getting out
- 49:26and doing my own thing. And so I just really enjoy
- 49:29cruising, you know, like, you know, that's I really just and
- 49:34then I, you know, like we have the 930 turbo and it's a lot of
- 49:38car to, you know, you it's funny.
- 49:43Vasim did a story on way back on like all the turbos.
- 49:47They went out to Willow and did it and he was saying the 930 was
- 49:51just a whole other, you know, it's just like a different, you
- 49:54know, it's called the widowmaker.
- 49:55So you're like, you have a little more respect, but I'm
- 49:58more about like kind of boosting it and then just kind of coming
- 50:01back and then boosting, you know, like, so I'm just like, I
- 50:03just have, I enjoy the speed, I enjoy feeling the power, I enjoy
- 50:06all that. But I really like to just cruise
- 50:09and and just enjoy the view and, and even like going through
- 50:13other countries. It was kind of such a fast pace
- 50:16and it it's faster each day. Like when you do the
- 50:18millimillia, you go as hard as you can.
- 50:20Like by the 4th day you're like, let's do this, you know?
- 50:23You're not seeing Italy, but I think that's a good, that's a
- 50:26really good description of the car as the sanctuary.
- 50:28And I think so many of us can relate to that.
- 50:32I mean that's it's, it's like 4 wheel therapy almost for a lot
- 50:36of us and you kind of. Space yeah, when I when I was
- 50:40working in LA, like every day, all day, like I had like clients
- 50:44all over. I was used to fit clothing for
- 50:46clothing companies. And so I would, you know, do
- 50:49like 2 and 3000 miles a month and people like, how do you do
- 50:52it? And trust me, I didn't like the
- 50:54traffic, but you know, I'm in my own zone.
- 50:56I'm listening to my shows, my podcasts, my, you know, my
- 51:00music, getting all my calls out. I'm like, I'm not at work in a
- 51:03cubicle. You know, this is part of my
- 51:05work. I'm usually being paid for the
- 51:07next job because it's a 2 hour minimum.
- 51:08So I'm moving from one to the next to the next.
- 51:11And I was just like I've told I did it for years and years and
- 51:15years, and it's been not a problem.
- 51:18You know, obviously I don't like to be stuck in traffic where I'm
- 51:21going to be late, but you know. Like getting to be behind the
- 51:25wheel is it's not a chore for you, like I think a lot of us
- 51:28can relate to. It's a treat.
- 51:30Are you a good vibes regular by chance?
- 51:33No. And you know what, it's funny
- 51:35because the cars I want to take up there, I just don't want to
- 51:38beat the crap out of them. Honestly, like that.
- 51:40There's like for one, there's a lot of terrible drivers that go
- 51:45up there. I mean, I mean, I and there's a
- 51:50lot of great drivers that go up, but like you're really on like
- 51:54an uncontrolled Rd. I think the track is safer than
- 52:00and has been seeing the crashes over the years.
- 52:04I mean, there's, but, you know, you come around the.
- 52:06I know that Balsam's hit a deer. Johnny's hit a deer, you know,
- 52:10so you're whipping around a corner and there's a deer in the
- 52:13road. You're taking a life.
- 52:15Yeah. And if it's a bicyclist, it
- 52:16might be him. Yeah, so it is a great Rd.
- 52:19though, and the community is awesome even, you know, I get
- 52:22there a handful of times each year from Denver and I run into
- 52:25people I know like, and that's the coolest thing.
- 52:27It's such a special place. It's such a my thing is.
- 52:30Thing the biggest thing is I'm not a morning person like.
- 52:34There's that. Well, and I think it's tough for
- 52:36Laura and I because we're like of the handful that come from
- 52:39Orange County. And so it's much more, it's a
- 52:42much longer proposition for us. Like there's the times where
- 52:45I've intended to go and I've told people I'm going and I get
- 52:48up and check the traffic, you know, pre dawn, and it's already
- 52:50like 3 hours one way. Yeah.
- 52:53So it's not always feasible, but yeah.
- 52:55Paul Kramer from Auto Kennel, he makes up every single week.
- 52:59So we have no, but he drives like a bat out of hell and he, I
- 53:03mean, he's always. He leaves so early.
- 53:05Yeah, and he's up at like 4:00 in the morning or whatever.
- 53:08I you know, we have to brush our hair.
- 53:12Yeah. Some of us not too.
- 53:14Much, but it is it is you're like you're right, Ryan, when
- 53:16you get up there, you know, you have the fun drive and there's
- 53:20an element of like you get to the point where if you're
- 53:22listening to, you know, satellite or, you know,
- 53:24streaming radio or podcast or whatever, there's an area where
- 53:27there's no service. And so it does sort of it's,
- 53:29it's very Zen when you hit that point and then you get up to
- 53:32Newcomb's and yeah, I mean the group of people, it's just such
- 53:36a quality crowd. And so it's like it's worth it
- 53:39it. Is.
- 53:40Awesome. I've been up probably 5 or 6
- 53:44times and it's, it's just a great group of people.
- 53:47It's, you know, and the air is fresh and you know, and amazing
- 53:52cars go up there and all the guys are bringing up their,
- 53:55their magazine cars and stuff. So that's really cool.
- 53:57But so I always tell people to go up there.
- 53:59If I, if I was coming into the area, I'd absolutely make it up
- 54:02there. But I, you know, you're spoiled
- 54:04because you're like, well, I can go any week.
- 54:06Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 54:08Lindsay, you're going to be in Denver on Friday.
- 54:11I am. And I want to show you a road
- 54:13that I think rivals Angela's Crest.
- 54:17Oh, I can't wait. So I don't know if you guys are
- 54:19going to have time, but. I think it sounds like we're
- 54:22going to make time. I may have to slightly adjust
- 54:27the the itinerary I heard. You're going to be in a good
- 54:30car, so. I will.
- 54:32Yeah. Well, we'll stay tuned for what
- 54:35the car is. Stay tuned next week.
- 54:39Yeah, yeah. Big week, big adventure ahead.
- 54:41Absolutely. What?
- 54:44Happened this week was did anything happen?
- 54:48I got engaged this week. There it is.
- 54:52Congratulations, I was. Like I leave for seven weeks and
- 54:55I come back and she's just, she's, she's taken, she's gone.
- 54:59She's dating someone. She's engaged.
- 55:00Yes. Yes.
- 55:02Our our #1 fan, Tori Alonzo and I are engaged.
- 55:06Which is just awesome. Yes, just awesome.
- 55:09We think Sir watches. Yeah, Q's and Q's with me.
- 55:12Right, he's on notice. Yeah, we're keeping him on his
- 55:15toes. Yeah.
- 55:17Can't wait, can't wait to meet him and just thrilled for you.
- 55:20It's yeah, some things just seem meant to be.
- 55:23I mean, quite literally, like nobody saw this coming, least of
- 55:27all us. Can I, Can I share the the
- 55:33inscription? Yeah, yeah, actually I think
- 55:36it's so cool. Your engagement ring says what
- 55:38on the inside? It says the perfect lap.
- 55:40Yeah, come on. Yeah, because one of.
- 55:43Our 3 words. One of the things that we bonded
- 55:46over, because we've been friends for years, we just hadn't met.
- 55:50And one of the things that we connected on was the love of
- 55:53Ford versus Ferrari, because Tory's a big movie guy and he
- 55:57actually owned one of the nine O sixes that they used in the
- 55:59movie. Really.
- 56:01Yeah. And.
- 56:02Then. I he's got some stories he's and
- 56:06that's he's owned several movie cars.
- 56:08He had one of the original Herbie's and yeah, I mean, he's
- 56:12always been into that. And then actually the car is in
- 56:14Orange County now because a friend of ours, Connie Summers,
- 56:17bought it and you know, I Willow is my home track in California
- 56:22and that's where I like. Singer's home track.
- 56:26Yes. So, so we had bonded over that
- 56:29and just the scene where, you know, Christian Bale as Ken
- 56:34Miles, like talks Peter through, you know, his son Peter through
- 56:37the lap. And it's ostensibly he's talking
- 56:40about driving the track, but you realize he's talking about life.
- 56:43And so that is one of the things that Tori said about me.
- 56:46Is that his perfect lap? So let's just.
- 56:49Put it in the ring and he needs. Her lap like to sit on, you know
- 56:53she's. There's so many, there's just so
- 56:55many applications. He just likes to see it on her
- 56:57lap all the time. It's.
- 56:59Beautiful, and you were. Well, watch checked, I know.
- 57:03That's right. What's up?
- 57:04Sheffield watches. What's up?
- 57:05And my Sheffield watch, they go, they go really well together.
- 57:09So there we go. Nice.
- 57:10Yeah, Yeah. This is Damn You're a Show, but
- 57:13I don't think we're quite done. I know well Lara mentioned
- 57:17singer with Willow and Lara got to drive the Singer Turbo, so I
- 57:21want to hear about that. Yeah, we like Singer.
- 57:26Yeah, it was incredible. Deb called me and she's like,
- 57:30hi, Deb. Hey, what did you feel about
- 57:36driving our turbo? And you know, excuse me, I'm
- 57:39like, do. You think it was a crank?
- 57:42Call. I was like I said, yeah.
- 57:47Because it's like the one basically right now, right?
- 57:50There's maybe there's a. Handful.
- 57:52But I don't know, you went to the the facilities, right,
- 57:54Lindsay? Yeah, I went when Avant's had
- 57:56it's the Turbo is their newest model.
- 57:59So this is the one that you drove is like the company's
- 58:02Turbo? Yeah, it's their like their
- 58:05press car basically because I mean, everyone's had their way
- 58:07with it. But it's held up well.
- 58:11Right. Yeah, It's incredible.
- 58:13I have to say. Those brakes are El touchy.
- 58:16They're very, very, very. Spanish too.
- 58:21It's it reminded me of being in the 930 turbo because it had
- 58:24that power feel obviously a bit more power and just a complete
- 58:29smooth, just great drive. Really, really awesome.
- 58:35And then the brakes are it takes you a second because you're like
- 58:40like you don't need to, you know, I drive a 69.
- 58:43So it's like maybe we should tap those brakes a little bit more.
- 58:46But you know, you get used to it and then you're you're going
- 58:48good. But it has like little modern
- 58:50features too. Like it doesn't roll back.
- 58:53You know, when you're you're putting everything is very, it
- 58:58really feels like, I mean, bear with me.
- 59:00It's like a daily driver, like it's that easy to drive.
- 59:04And so, you know, there, I, I love that about it, you know,
- 59:09and you know, just knowing it's so expensive.
- 59:12I was like, no, but it was traffic time when I got up there
- 59:14and they I said, no, you're driving me out to where I'm
- 59:17going to drive it because I'm not go through traffic in LA to
- 59:21get to it. So one of the guys took me out
- 59:23and it was. Who took you out?
- 59:27Oh, sorry, not to put you on the.
- 59:28Spot. I'm a singer.
- 59:28Well, So what? OK, So what is the?
- 59:30Let's call him Sheamus, right? Yeah, Sheamus is there, Michael.
- 59:34Michael's the one that did the tour when I.
- 59:35Was there? Yeah.
- 59:37But So what is the turbo start at?
- 59:39Did they tell you? Price wise, I think, I mean I'd
- 59:42have to look at, I want to say it was it, it's between 7:50 and
- 59:46a million and that's a. Few, I mean, yeah.
- 59:49Yeah, I think it's a million. So yeah, you're just like, you
- 59:54know, I don't know. But I I had a lot of fun with it
- 59:57and Lee was with me and he's like, you know, I'm going to
- 59:58drive it. And I was like not.
- 1:00:01I really, I was, I, you know, and he's a great driver.
- 1:00:04Like he would have had more fun than I would have in it.
- 1:00:08But you know, it's just, you know, there's, there's rules,
- 1:00:10but, and just walking around that facility, what a treat.
- 1:00:13Like that was a thing that was right before I left for France
- 1:00:17to like days before, like 2 days before.
- 1:00:19So I was like, what is happening?
- 1:00:21It was a very good spring. Yeah.
- 1:00:24It was nice even in France. That was just beautiful.
- 1:00:26I arrived it was like 75°. I'm like, what is going on?
- 1:00:29So it was really, really beautiful.
- 1:00:31And but the singer facilities are next level.
- 1:00:35All white, just beautiful. Yeah.
- 1:00:38Impeccably clean. It's like a church, like you
- 1:00:40walk in and you're just like. Yeah.
- 1:00:42And I'm like, can I take it like see there like no pictures?
- 1:00:45And then I'm like, I, she goes, well, we just do it because we
- 1:00:49don't want the customer's car to be in the background or
- 1:00:51whatever. Like you don't give away the
- 1:00:53surprise. So she's like, well, you can
- 1:00:55take a picture of this and you can take a picture of this.
- 1:00:56Well, you know, I'm like, so I was just kind of like getting a
- 1:01:00couple of pictures because I mean, I just walked up when I
- 1:01:02walked in. I'm like in Lee goes you
- 1:01:05literally this is like her her form of hell because I can't if
- 1:01:10I can't photograph. And we've been in a couple
- 1:01:11situations like that where it's like a super private collection
- 1:01:14and I'm like. You realize how instinctive it
- 1:01:19is for taking pictures and like you know.
- 1:01:23Just because you want to even look at it yourself and there's
- 1:01:25been no, they're like, you can take it and look at it yourself.
- 1:01:27I'm like, I see it. I don't need to look at.
- 1:01:30It they nailed that turbo though and I I haven't driven it, I've
- 1:01:33only looked at it right, but every angle is right.
- 1:01:37The accordion bumper. In Seattle, right?
- 1:01:39Ryan Yeah, yeah, a couple places now.
- 1:01:41And it's just, it's so good. It's just so good.
- 1:01:43Like, you know, you keep sort of walking around looking for like
- 1:01:46an awkward angle or something and it just doesn't happen.
- 1:01:49It doesn't exist. Yeah, I mean, we're so pretty
- 1:01:51and it really like has that full retro feel and but just those
- 1:01:57little modern touches that make you it just the ease of like
- 1:02:00because you know, the 9:30, it's like you get in and you're like,
- 1:02:03you know, like, yeah, you know, like adjusting.
- 1:02:05And and then this one is just like you glide in and you just
- 1:02:09feel a little, you know, and our, our car's is pimped.
- 1:02:12It's great. Yeah, it's really great car.
- 1:02:15But but it's, you know, it's really analog.
- 1:02:19And this one is very analog. But at the same time there's
- 1:02:23little subtle things and you don't even realize till you get
- 1:02:25out and you go, Oh my gosh, it didn't, it doesn't roll back
- 1:02:27right. And yeah, yeah, there's little
- 1:02:30the added features that are are great and the handling and you
- 1:02:34know, just it, I can't say enough about it.
- 1:02:38It was a really sweet car to drive and just feel like you're
- 1:02:40in an old car, but you have that new car feel so.
- 1:02:44Like all the creature comforts. I know I got to sit in it when
- 1:02:46it was here in Seattle because they did an event a couple weeks
- 1:02:50ago. And I thought even the interior
- 1:02:53was so much fun, like the fabrics that they had chosen and
- 1:02:55the green and the Plaid and it just, it was, it's a very happy
- 1:02:59car. And I like the, the mix.
- 1:03:02You know, the outside, it's kind of understated and then you get
- 1:03:05in and it's very lively inside and it's just like it really
- 1:03:07draws you in. Yeah, I met the guy who does the
- 1:03:11interiors and everything, and then they the people who pick
- 1:03:13the Leathers and the Leathers have to be perfect.
- 1:03:15And you just go around and everything is just white glove.
- 1:03:18It's, it's just, it just, it's really impressive because they
- 1:03:23went from like a little tiny, you know, place in the valley
- 1:03:27and then they get another little place in the valley and then
- 1:03:29they ended up with six places in the valley.
- 1:03:31And then now they have this big beautiful facility and they're
- 1:03:34pretty much outgrowing that too. I mean, there's no shortage of
- 1:03:38demand for sure for. This, Yeah, pretty cool.
- 1:03:41So I was talking to somebody the other day and we were trying to
- 1:03:43determine like what the next sort of car that should be
- 1:03:46reimagined is, right? So I know Singer has like a
- 1:03:50warehouse of 209 six fours or whatever, but eventually they
- 1:03:53will run out, right? So what's the like the?
- 1:03:56Next. Yeah.
- 1:03:57And they really do, you know. Yeah.
- 1:03:59And I had my first 964 experience recently and that was
- 1:04:03like the poster car for me driving or growing up, you know,
- 1:04:07that was what I wanted to drive. And I was a little underwhelmed.
- 1:04:11So you know what? Reimagine them all.
- 1:04:13Like, I'm OK with it. It's a better car reimagined.
- 1:04:16It was kind of the redheaded stepchild of I hate saying that
- 1:04:19because that's I have so many friends that are redheaded.
- 1:04:25Like that's just an inappropriate thing to say.
- 1:04:27Why would I say that? It's a safe space.
- 1:04:30OK, yeah, no one's hating me, right?
- 1:04:33But you know when I I'm so mad because when I was looking to
- 1:04:39buy I ended up with A997, but when I was looking to buy there
- 1:04:43was just they were giving 9/6. Four, they really were.
- 1:04:47They were. Nothing.
- 1:04:48And that was the first car I drove.
- 1:04:50The first Porsche I drove, it was a 964C2 Targa, which is
- 1:04:56actually what the car I drove that in, Porsche Centrum
- 1:04:59Gelderland, was the race, the police car, what?
- 1:05:03They were targets, yeah. And outside of their cars as
- 1:05:06well. So they were all targets.
- 1:05:09I. Could stand up and hold that
- 1:05:10little sign. That little.
- 1:05:13But they're just very easy to drive.
- 1:05:15They're like very like shifting easy cars.
- 1:05:19But but you know, they've, they've really, I think no one
- 1:05:24was upset about them taking the 96 fours because.
- 1:05:27Yeah. It was, yeah.
- 1:05:29So I think the next car that should be reimagined is the
- 1:05:32Mercedes R1 O 7. So like the one up there, like
- 1:05:36the SL. So like what is that the 71
- 1:05:39through 89 or whatever SL Because there are a million of
- 1:05:41them, maybe 10 million of them. I know it's it's not quite the
- 1:05:44sports car the 964 sports to be, but what?
- 1:05:48Would you want to do to it? I I, I just I feel like, you
- 1:05:50know, it's it's got a lot of potential right there
- 1:05:52everywhere. They're cheap.
- 1:05:53They're actually still cheap, right sure.
- 1:05:57You know, I I think that they they're more power could be made
- 1:06:00everything that Singer does does to their cars, right do them to
- 1:06:02these. Give that treatment to those.
- 1:06:04Yeah, You know, I, I was just, I'm trying to think of like,
- 1:06:07what other car did they make a bunch of that, you know, kind of
- 1:06:09unloved, still can be found for nothing.
- 1:06:11But maybe this isn't it. Maybe there's something else?
- 1:06:14There was one I was thinking of, but it's a great car.
- 1:06:20I can't think of it right now. Yeah, You find those and you're
- 1:06:23like, how come this isn't worth more?
- 1:06:25Like, why is this? Like, even the Dino was like, I
- 1:06:29remember looking in the newspaper and they were going
- 1:06:33for like $40,000 way back and like the 90s.
- 1:06:36And then all of a sudden they're worth all this money.
- 1:06:38I'm like, but it's the poor man's Ferrari, you know?
- 1:06:42And I had a friend who had one and they ripped around and I was
- 1:06:45like, whatever. And now they're like this big
- 1:06:49deal. And I mean, Ferraris, I just, I
- 1:06:52don't even feel like I fit in Ferraris.
- 1:06:53It's a weird thing. You don't fit in Ferraris.
- 1:06:57I'm not that tall, but I have a long torso and I have, I like
- 1:07:04the GT, the three. My friend used to have a 328
- 1:07:07GTS. She was like 23 years old.
- 1:07:09I was like 20-5, really. And her husband was 27.
- 1:07:12And he, it got a bunch of money from his dad and he was buying
- 1:07:17Ferraris and Ferraris and Ferraris and she hated cars.
- 1:07:21So he goes, alright, come on. I bought her something and I'm
- 1:07:24like, Oh my God. And she's like, oh, she got an
- 1:07:27SL. She got a A600SL when they first
- 1:07:29came out. Yeah.
- 1:07:30And she's like, what are you thinking?
- 1:07:33She she thought he got her a gym, like a workout gym for
- 1:07:36their house. And she walks up and she's like,
- 1:07:39Oh my God, he's like, bring Laura, bring Laura and.
- 1:07:43She goes, she'll make it better. She was a little dyslexic and
- 1:07:46she goes, it's OK. It was only $20,000.
- 1:07:48I go no, like I think they're like 120,000.
- 1:07:55That's another one. There's R12 nines.
- 1:07:57We should all be buying those up, right?
- 1:07:59I mean, they'll never be cheaper.
- 1:08:01It's AV 12. That's 600, you know.
- 1:08:03Yeah, yeah, I mean and it drove like a truck.
- 1:08:06It was like, you know, but we got in the she she had a, it had
- 1:08:119000 miles on it. She never drove it.
- 1:08:12She had a little 328 GTS and I was like, let's take the Ferrari
- 1:08:18out, you know? And she's like Laura, you don't
- 1:08:19even understand. And she was blonde.
- 1:08:21I was like this color here. And she was, she's like, you
- 1:08:25don't understand. Like the looks I get, it's
- 1:08:27horrible. And so we get out and I'm like,
- 1:08:33and and then the windshield kind of comes to here.
- 1:08:35So you're like, I'm like, this is so weird.
- 1:08:38Poor Tom Selleck. Yeah, it's like you look at it
- 1:08:41and you go yeah, like we're not crazy tall, but like when I
- 1:08:44drove the three O 8 same thing where I'm like boy, we're.
- 1:08:47Kind of body, yeah, same body. So yeah, I get in and this guy
- 1:08:51looks over and like this and. And I look over and he goes he's
- 1:08:58like Oh yeah, you're right. I go, it's her car and he's
- 1:09:01like, no, you know, like whatever it was, you know, like,
- 1:09:06I mean, we should have been in that cars, though.
- 1:09:08I just drove my first 355 a couple weeks ago and it had like
- 1:09:12sparkle buckets which did not help me.
- 1:09:14I'm 64 and like 2:50 and also long in torso and I just look so
- 1:09:18silly. I look like an ape driving that
- 1:09:20thing. It was just not good and I
- 1:09:22wanted to love it and it drove well, but I I couldn't even get
- 1:09:25comfortable enough to drive it as.
- 1:09:27A yeah, that takes away from the.
- 1:09:29Driving I. Think it's for like littler
- 1:09:31people like jockeys, you know, like, because.
- 1:09:34Italians. Yeah, well, I mean, I, I don't
- 1:09:37know what it is like. They're not, you know, I fit
- 1:09:40clothing. So.
- 1:09:41So like, OK, I'm always like, we need a little inch here, a
- 1:09:45little take off here, raise the neckline, whatever.
- 1:09:47And so I feel like they need a fit model for.
- 1:09:51Right, but any Porsche, it doesn't matter which Porsche I
- 1:09:54can fit in. 914-920-4928 fits me just fine.
- 1:09:58So I guess I mean. People they, you know, say what
- 1:10:03you want about Porsche, I mean recently Supercar Blondie was
- 1:10:06like, it just doesn't, it doesn't do it for me.
- 1:10:07And I'm like, what? I know I was like respectfully.
- 1:10:13Well, some of us are drivers. I I just, yeah, I think, you
- 1:10:17know, like she gets a lot of grief because, you know, she, I
- 1:10:20mean, you know, any girl who's just going to be, I mean, a lot
- 1:10:24of those cars don't even have engines in them.
- 1:10:25Like, they're not motors because they're just honestly, they
- 1:10:29they're they're rollers. They're rollers.
- 1:10:31Yeah. So, you know, people are like,
- 1:10:34she doesn't even drive it. It's like, well, sometimes she.
- 1:10:37Can't. No one can, right.
- 1:10:40But, you know, she's got, she's done very well for herself.
- 1:10:44So she got her. And people would be like, you
- 1:10:46know, I think you're better than her.
- 1:10:48I go, well, about 10 million people don't think so.
- 1:10:51So yeah. But you know, at the same time
- 1:10:55you're doing OK. Yeah.
- 1:10:57Not what's the secret for social media success in your eyes?
- 1:11:00Like what's? I have no idea.
- 1:11:03I mean I. Like when did you, when did it
- 1:11:05click for you? Like when did you see that, that
- 1:11:06counter going like it, like it was a slot machine, you know,
- 1:11:09like it was just it. Never.
- 1:11:10Did the jackpot. It was in the beginning before
- 1:11:14Meta took over and and everyone will complain about when Meta
- 1:11:17took over. I actually was just on the phone
- 1:11:18with Meta the other day because they called me here and again.
- 1:11:21They've got a phone number. Yeah, I actually do.
- 1:11:26I'll send you what they send me. Yeah, they send you like tips
- 1:11:28and tricks or whatever. They want you to post like 3 * a
- 1:11:32day and put words on the title. I go.
- 1:11:34I'm not gonna lose my aesthetic. I'm sorry.
- 1:11:36I'll. I'll have followers because the
- 1:11:38people who follow me are generally older, you know,
- 1:11:41they're elegant and understated, you know, I don't know, but they
- 1:11:47don't close the. Crowd.
- 1:11:48They don't want like crazy. Demographic, yeah.
- 1:11:51Yeah, I don't know. I just feel like I don't want to
- 1:11:53veer away from who I am either. And I'm very picky about like
- 1:11:58brands that I work with because sometimes the brand is just not
- 1:12:01elevated enough or it, you know, or they want me to put like
- 1:12:05spinner rims on the cars or something.
- 1:12:07And they're like, we'll pay you up a zillion dollars.
- 1:12:09They actually offered me one of those.
- 1:12:12I don't know what those cars are, that they're like a
- 1:12:13motorcycle, but it's a weird car and it's it, it has.
- 1:12:17An organ. No, it's like a starts with an
- 1:12:21S, doesn't it? It's some sort of like sidekick
- 1:12:23or whatever. We'll give it to you for a year.
- 1:12:26And I was, I was like, I can't do it.
- 1:12:29Like I will be laughed. And then it was a it was a
- 1:12:31marketing agency and they were like, yeah, we figured it was a
- 1:12:34long shot. I was like, I mean, I'm a
- 1:12:36classic car girl. Like it.
- 1:12:37They people would just be like, you've sold out.
- 1:12:40You can't do it. So be really careful with what I
- 1:12:42do as well. So when I But when the growth
- 1:12:46came, it was kind of out of the gate.
- 1:12:50Bart Kirkins, who is a photographer for.
- 1:12:54He was doing a book on the book series Flat 6 Love Affair.
- 1:12:58I have it somewhere here. He Bart.
- 1:13:01Hi, Bart. Yeah.
- 1:13:02I was like 2 days into my Instagram and he goes, hey, you
- 1:13:06want to do a shoot? And I go, here it goes, you
- 1:13:07know, and then some other guy did it too.
- 1:13:12And I was like, oh, you know, like trying to be nice.
- 1:13:15I'm. I'm never like, shut up, you
- 1:13:16know? Yeah.
- 1:13:17And the other guy unfollowed me because he's like, I figured you
- 1:13:21were just getting too popular. And I go, well, that's sad.
- 1:13:24And I was like, that's mean. And then a goal, Sir.
- 1:13:27Yeah. For all of us.
- 1:13:29Followed him too is like well unfollow and then I forget who
- 1:13:33he was but he was some guy who obviously had his own issues to
- 1:13:37deal with but Bart was like hey he's like let's do some
- 1:13:42photographs and ever after that it kind of put me on the map and
- 1:13:45then Portia took notice and then they did a story on me it's
- 1:13:48somewhere here too. They did a story me and and they
- 1:13:54titled it Laura's World which. Oh, come on.
- 1:13:58I was like, I go, if I was going to write the title, I would
- 1:14:05have. I wouldn't even have ever.
- 1:14:07That's epic suggested that. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:09Thank you so much. So it was for Christophe wrist
- 1:14:12mags. I think amazing.
- 1:14:13Yeah, So is this, No, this is a new one.
- 1:14:16This isn't mine. This is the new one anyway,
- 1:14:18they're everywhere but the but so it and it just started
- 1:14:23growing and at that time you could see your growth, how it
- 1:14:26was going to grow. Like, sure, sure.
- 1:14:28I would go by August, I'm gonna have 20,000 and by August I'd be
- 1:14:32off by like 100. It was like 100 up, 100 down or
- 1:14:35whatever. And then it just was like it
- 1:14:38kind of fell off a Cliff and I was like, what's going on?
- 1:14:40And then I got something that went viral after I, they put me
- 1:14:46in jail for a second. I forget why.
- 1:14:47Somebody probably did something and I was like, I can't, I mean,
- 1:14:52I was getting like a hundred 150 a day.
- 1:14:54Like it was just like, whatever. And some of them were bots
- 1:14:56because like you, it's not, you're not buying it.
- 1:15:00They're just the bots. Yeah, they're.
- 1:15:02Out there, Yeah. And then they clean house and so
- 1:15:04you get like, you know, they drop off and never, but because
- 1:15:07the bots are such a part of Instagram, it kind of pisses you
- 1:15:11off. But I'm like, whatever, it's a
- 1:15:11number, you know? And then Meta took over and it
- 1:15:16just went to absolute shit. And I was like, like, I've been
- 1:15:19complaining and complaining and suddenly I'm getting another
- 1:15:22little boost. So but when I got the I had one
- 1:15:27go several million, like 4 million and I got 8000 because
- 1:15:31I, I just said I hit 50,000 and then I got 8000 in a month and I
- 1:15:36was like, Oh my God, now I look like I bought followers.
- 1:15:38And I. And I, I mean, I'd wake up and
- 1:15:41it was like I was like, Oh my gosh, I got like 200 followers.
- 1:15:44I'm like, Oh no, I had got 2200 followers.
- 1:15:46I mean, it was so insane. And Portia put me on a couple
- 1:15:49times and I would get 1000 followers.
- 1:15:51And Yep. Yep.
- 1:15:52So anyway, Dan followed me recently.
- 1:15:56Get out they. Went a little unfollowing.
- 1:15:58Followed you they. Unfollowed.
- 1:16:00No, everyone's complaining about it, but they, they've unfollowed
- 1:16:02like I'm and I'm talking this big game like, yeah.
- 1:16:05And then Portia followed me and then I looked and they
- 1:16:08unfollowed all like their drivers.
- 1:16:11Like I was like somebody who doesn't know anything about
- 1:16:13that. Was a glitch.
- 1:16:15Yeah. And I'm like, well, at least I'm
- 1:16:17a good Porsche. Good company.
- 1:16:18Yeah. Yeah, yeah, that.
- 1:16:20Wasn't personal. Yeah.
- 1:16:23Yeah, they need to get their act together.
- 1:16:25Interesting, interesting. Or I need to be kind of German?
- 1:16:29What? It keeps it interesting.
- 1:16:31Yeah, it's always you just. Don't know.
- 1:16:33Is is that will? The real take away is it's
- 1:16:36always a struggle. You know, yeah.
- 1:16:38Yeah, I didn't. I was the accidental.
- 1:16:40It's, you know, I didn't think it was going to go crazy and and
- 1:16:46and it really isn't that. I mean, like so many people,
- 1:16:48like a million followers or whatever, but now a lot of
- 1:16:51people buy their followers and you know, you're just in a sea
- 1:16:54of, of hoping to stand out in a sea of like the liars and the
- 1:17:03real people. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:04So yeah, it happens, but. Maybe in a weird way, this sort
- 1:17:08of brings it back to where it was, right?
- 1:17:10Like kind of the real deal people, right?
- 1:17:11The people who are really creating quality content, right?
- 1:17:14Who, who the drivers, right? The.
- 1:17:17Well, my boyfriend always says just stay consistent.
- 1:17:20And yeah, and enough of the things of like the trips I've
- 1:17:22taken in the places I've been in the, in the events that I've
- 1:17:25done, there's a consistency. And so I think that's what is
- 1:17:30and there's an authenticity of that.
- 1:17:32So yes. And I do try to just stay in my
- 1:17:34lane and keep my eyes on my own plate.
- 1:17:36And then at the end of the day, you know, there's gonna be new
- 1:17:41and younger, stronger, faster, richer people that come along.
- 1:17:45What a pleasure talking with you.
- 1:17:46We definitely have to do a part, do a part.
- 1:17:48I'm a say Part 2, Part 2. It could just be the whiskey
- 1:17:51talking. But yeah, this was fun and hope
- 1:17:56you get to visit Colorado sometime and like Lindsay will
- 1:18:00be doing on Friday. Right.
- 1:18:01Yeah, We'll have to make a pilgrimage.
- 1:18:03I know, I think. It's my dad's tomorrow for we
- 1:18:07sold his house so we I'm going to.
- 1:18:10Not Colorado A. Few days ago I'm on the plane
- 1:18:12again and I hate to fly but it. Can't stay away, I know.
- 1:18:16Wait, that Porsche girl hates to fly?
- 1:18:18I hate to fly I'm. She's a driver.
- 1:18:21That's right. I don't know if you like, I've
- 1:18:24obviously control issues so I have.
- 1:18:28All Porsche drivers do, yeah. I'm known as being the worst
- 1:18:31passenger. Johnny Lieberman is the first to
- 1:18:34to say that cuz he took me out on GT3 and I was like, and
- 1:18:37again, not controlled Rd. yeah, like Angela's Crest.
- 1:18:40I'm like, I don't want to be. And it wasn't anything on his
- 1:18:43driving. It was just like if we come
- 1:18:44around the corner and there's a motorcycle on the ground, you
- 1:18:48know, I'm always that's why I'm a precision driver.
- 1:18:50I'm always like, what can happen?
- 1:18:52And they're like, I don't care what happens.
- 1:18:55So there's people who are like that.
- 1:18:56And then those people like me are like, give me a controlled
- 1:18:58environment or, you know, some walkie talkies.
- 1:19:01So I know nothing's around that corner and I'm gonna come flying
- 1:19:03around it. But yeah, so maybe.
- 1:19:05We get to talk about like the movies you've been in and the
- 1:19:09people you've doubled for the television spots you've done.
- 1:19:12So definitely please come. Back.
- 1:19:13You'll have to come back. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:19:15Well, on that note, thank you so much for joining us.
- 1:19:18We're that car show and remember to always be driving and we'll
- 1:19:22see you next week. Thanks, Laura.
- 1:19:24Bye.
