- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, June 6th.
- 0:11Turning back to God Have you ever drifted, not physically,
- 0:16but spiritually? Like one day you realize that
- 0:20God used to be at the center of your life, and somewhere along
- 0:23the way He got pushed to the edges.
- 0:26You're still doing OK, maybe even doing fine on the outside.
- 0:30But deep inside, you know the connection isn't what it used to
- 0:33be. That's exactly where the
- 0:35Israelites found themselves in First Samuel Chapter 7.
- 0:39They had been living with foreign gods, taking up space in
- 0:43their hearts. They had walked away from the
- 0:45God who had carried them, protected them, and provided for
- 0:48them. And Samuel comes to them with a
- 0:51direct message, not one of condemnation but of invitation.
- 0:55First Samuel Chapter 7 verse 3 says if you are returning to the
- 1:00Lord with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and
- 1:04direct your heart to the Lord and serve Him only, and He will
- 1:07deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
- 1:10That word if is key. It's not a barrier, it's an
- 1:13invitation. God isn't standing with his arms
- 1:16crossed waiting to punish them. He's standing with his arms
- 1:20open, waiting to receive them. But he does ask for something.
- 1:24Your whole heart, not a partial return, not keeping 1 foot in
- 1:29and 1 foot out. He says, come back fully.
- 1:33Put away the things that have taken my place, and I will meet
- 1:36you there. Proverbs chapter 17, verses 10
- 1:40and 11 add important context here.
- 1:43Someone who is truly wise responds to correction.
- 1:46A single rebuke can penetrate a heart that's open.
- 1:50But a fool keeps pushing against wisdom, keeps choosing
- 1:53rebellion, and eventually faces serious consequences.
- 1:57The Israelites learned this the hard way over and over again.
- 2:01But every time they return to God, he was faithful.
- 2:05And Psalm 65, verse 5 gives us a picture of what that
- 2:08faithfulness looks like. By awesome deeds you answer us
- 2:12with righteousness, oh God of our salvation, the hope of all
- 2:15the ends of the earth. This is not a passive God.
- 2:20This is a God who answers with awesome deeds.
- 2:22He doesn't just accept our return quietly.
- 2:25He responds powerfully. He delivers.
- 2:28He restores. He brings hope.
- 2:32So wherever you are today, whether you've been drifting for
- 2:35a week or a few years, the door is open.
- 2:38The invitation is real. God doesn't want a version of
- 2:41your life where he's squeezed in between everything else.
- 2:45He wants the center. And when you give him that,
- 2:48everything else begins to align. Let's pray.
- 2:53Heavenly Father, thank you for never giving up on us even when
- 2:56we drift away. Thank You that your door is
- 2:59always open and your arms are always ready to receive us.
- 3:03Help us to come back to you with our whole heart, not partially,
- 3:07not conditionally, but fully show us the things we need to
- 3:10put away and fill those spaces with more of you.
- 3:14We trust that when we return you meet us with awesome deeds in
- 3:18Jesus name, Amen. When the battle feels personal,
- 3:23relentless, and too heavy to name, your prayers do not have
- 3:27to fall silent. Under Siege is a prayer script

- 3:39These books give voice to the cry for help, the fight for a

- 3:53This series helps you pray with discernment, endurance, and

- 4:15Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's three-year
- 4:18Bible reading plan. Proverbs chapter 17 verses 10 to
- 4:2311 World English Bible a rebuke enters deeper into one who has
- 4:28understanding than 100 lashes into a fool.
- 4:32An evil man seeks only rebellion, therefore a cruel
- 4:35messenger shall be sent against him.
- 4:37Psalm Chapter 65 World English Bible Praise waits for you, God
- 4:43in Zion. Vows shall be performed to you.
- 4:46You who hear prayer, all men will come to you.
- 4:49Sins overwhelmed me, but you atoned for our transgressions.
- 4:53Blessed is the one whom you choose and cause to come near,
- 4:56that he may live in your courts. We will be filled with the
- 5:00goodness of your house, your holy temple.
- 5:02By awesome deeds of righteousness you answer us, God
- 5:06of our salvation, You who are the hope of all the ends of the
- 5:09earth, of those. Who are far?
- 5:11Away on the sea, by your power, you form the mountains.
- 5:15Having armed yourself with strength, you still the roaring
- 5:19of the Seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of
- 5:22the nations. They also, who dwell in faraway
- 5:25places, are afraid at your wonders.
- 5:28You call the mornings dawn and the evening with songs of joy.
- 5:31You visit the earth and water it.
- 5:33You greatly enrich it. The river of God is full of
- 5:36water. You provide them grain, for so
- 5:39you have ordained it. You drench its furrows, you
- 5:42level its ridges. You soften it with showers.
- 5:45You bless it with a crop. You crown the year with your
- 5:47bounty. Your carts overflow with
- 5:50abundance. The wilderness grasslands
- 5:52overflow. The hills are clothed with
- 5:55gladness. The pastures are covered with
- 5:57flocks. The valleys also are clothed
- 5:59with grain. They shout for joy.
- 6:02They also sing First Samuel chapters six to seven World
- 6:07English Bible. Yahweh's ark was in the country
- 6:09of the Philistines seven months. The Philistines called for the
- 6:13priests and the diviners, saying, what shall we do with
- 6:17Yahweh's ark? Show us how we should send it to
- 6:20its place. They said, if you send away the
- 6:23ark of the God of Israel, don't send it empty, but by all means
- 6:27return a trespass offering to Him.
- 6:30Then you will be healed, and it will be known to you why His
- 6:33hand is not removed from you. Then they said, what should the
- 6:37trespass offering be which we shall return to him?
- 6:40They said 5 golden tumors and five golden mice, for the number
- 6:44of the Lords of the Philistines. For one plague was on you all
- 6:48and on your Lords. Therefore you shall make images
- 6:52of your tumors and images of your mice that mar the land, and
- 6:56you shall give glory to the God of Israel.
- 6:59Perhaps He will release His hand from you, from your gods, and
- 7:02from your land. Why then do you harden your
- 7:05hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh harden their hearts?
- 7:08When He had worked wonderfully among them?
- 7:11Didn't they let the people go and they departed.
- 7:14Now, therefore, take and prepare yourselves a new cart and two
- 7:17milk cows on which there has come no yoke, and tie the cows
- 7:21to the cart, and bring their calves home from them.
- 7:24And take Yahweh's ark and lay it on the cart.
- 7:28Put the jewels of gold which you return him for a trespass
- 7:31offering in a box by its side, and send it away that it may go.
- 7:36Behold, if it goes up by the way of its own border to bait
- 7:39Shemesh, then He has done us this great evil.
- 7:42But if not, then we shall know that it is not His hand that
- 7:45struck us. It was a chance that happened to
- 7:48us. The men did so and took 2 milk
- 7:51cows and tied them to the cart and shut up their calves.
- 7:54At home they put Yahweh's ark on the cart and the box with the
- 7:58golden mice and the images of their tumors.
- 8:01The cows took the straight way by the way to Bait Shemesh.
- 8:05They went along the highway, lowing as they went, and didn't
- 8:09turn away to the right hand or to the left, and the Lords of
- 8:12the Philistines went after them to the border of Bait Shemesh.
- 8:16The people of Bait Shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in
- 8:19the valley, and they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark and
- 8:23rejoiced to see it. The cart came into the field of
- 8:26Joshua of Bait Shemesh, and stood there where there was a
- 8:29great stone. Then they split the wood of the
- 8:32cart and offered up the cows for a burnt offering to Yahweh.
- 8:36The Levites took down Yahweh's ark and the box that was with
- 8:40it, in which the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great
- 8:43stone. And the men of Bait Shemesh
- 8:46offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same
- 8:50day to Yahweh. When the five Lords of the
- 8:53Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.
- 8:58These are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned
- 9:00for a trespass offering to Yahweh, for Ashdod one, for Gaza
- 9:05one, for Ashkellen one, for Gath one, for Ekron one and the
- 9:09golden mice. According to the number of all
- 9:12the cities of the Philistines belonging to the 5 Lords, both
- 9:16of fortified cities and of country villages, even to the
- 9:20great stone on which they set down Yahweh's ark, that stone
- 9:24remains to this day in the field of Joshua of Beit Shemesh.
- 9:28He struck of the men of Beit Shemesh because they had looked
- 9:31into Yahweh's ark. He struck 50,070 of the men.
- 9:36Then the people mourned because Yahweh had struck the people
- 9:39with a great slaughter. The men of Beit Shemesh said,
- 9:42Who is able to stand before Yahweh, this holy God, To whom
- 9:47shall He go up from us? They sent messengers to the
- 9:49inhabitants of Koriath Jirim, saying, The Philistines have
- 9:53brought back Yahweh's ark, come down and bring it up to
- 9:57yourselves. The men of Koriath Jirim came
- 10:00and took Yahweh's ark and brought it into AB and Adab's
- 10:03house on the hill and consecrated Elizar his son to
- 10:06keep Yahweh's ark. From the day that the ark stayed
- 10:10in Koriath Jirim, the time was long, for it was 20 years and
- 10:14all the House of Israel lamented after Yahweh.
- 10:18Samuel spoke to all the House of Israel saying, If you are
- 10:22returning to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the
- 10:25foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your
- 10:28hearts to Yahweh and serve Him only and He will deliver you out
- 10:33of the hand of the Philistines. Then the children of Israel
- 10:37removed the bales and the Ashtaroth and served Yahweh
- 10:40only. Samuel said, Gather all Israel
- 10:43to Mizpah and I will pray to Yahweh for you.
- 10:47They gathered together to Mizpah and drew water and poured it out
- 10:50before Yahweh, and fasted on that day and said, There we have
- 10:54sinned against Yahweh. Samuel judged the children of
- 10:58Israel in Mizpah. When the Philistines heard that
- 11:01the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the
- 11:04Lords of the Philistines went up against Israel.
- 11:08When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of
- 11:11the Philistines. The children of Israel said to
- 11:14Samuel, Don't stop crying to Yahweh, our God for us, that He
- 11:18will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.
- 11:21Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it for a whole burnt
- 11:25offering to Yahweh. Samuel cried to Yahweh for
- 11:28Israel, and Yahweh answered him. As Samuel was offering up the
- 11:33burnt offering, the Philistines came near to battle against
- 11:36Israel. But Yahweh thundered with a
- 11:39great Thunder on that day on the Philistines and confused them,
- 11:43and they were struck down before Israel.
- 11:46The men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the
- 11:49Philistines and struck them until they came under bait car.
- 11:54Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and
- 11:57called its name Ebenezer, saying, Yahweh helped us until
- 12:01now. So the Philistines were subdued,
- 12:05and they stopped coming within the border of Israel.
- 12:08Yahweh's hand was against the Philistines all the days of
- 12:11Samuel. The cities which the Philistines
- 12:14had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron,
- 12:18even to Gath, and Israel recovered its border out of the
- 12:22hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel
- 12:26and the Amorites. Samuel judged Israel all the
- 12:29days of his life. He went from year to year in a
- 12:32circuit to Bethel, Gilgol, and Mizpah, and he judged Israel in
- 12:36all those places. His return was to Rama, for his
- 12:40house was there, and he judged Israel there, and he built an
- 12:44altar to Yahweh there. Thanks for joining us on Bible
