- 0:40Speaker 3: with the one and only Harry Style.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Thank you, Thank you very much. Is that an official
- 0:47Speaker 4: name change?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yes, actually we have been officially changed to not the
- 0:52Speaker 3: number one Harry Styles Station all Day.
- 0:55Speaker 5: We love your single.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Congratulations on thank you so much on coming back because
- 1:01Speaker 3: we missed you.
- 1:01Speaker 5: It's been four years. Oh my goodness. First and foremost,
- 1:06Speaker 5: how are you doing, Like, what have you been doing?
- 1:09Speaker 4: I'm doing great? Actually, yeah, I feel I feel really
- 1:16Speaker 4: excited that it's it's kind of time to be to
- 1:20Speaker 4: be putting it out. Yeah, it's I've been really excited
- 1:25Speaker 4: about the music since I finished the album and I'm
- 1:28Speaker 4: kind of coming to this at like, I think, the
- 1:31Speaker 4: best place in my life, I think, so I feel
- 1:35Speaker 4: kind of like ready to do it and ready to
- 1:38Speaker 4: put it out. I'm like excited to share it with everyone.
- 1:42Speaker 4: So yeah, I'm excited.
- 1:45Speaker 3: You got you got some well deserved time off. Saw
- 1:48Speaker 3: you doing a couple of marathons, which with incredible times
- 1:52Speaker 3: by the way, so that was crazy. Did you get
- 1:55Speaker 3: some sort of bat signal? Did you feel like this
- 1:58Speaker 3: was the moment? Like when did that?
- 2:00Speaker 4: Thinking, Well, I finished, I finished the album in the summer,
- 2:06Speaker 4: at the end of last summer, and and then I
- 2:11Speaker 4: kind of was just, you know, once I had finished,
- 2:14Speaker 4: it was kind of like mentally going, Okay, what might
- 2:18Speaker 4: this feel like to put it out? Yeah, so I
- 2:20Speaker 4: was kind of like slowly getting kind of ready for that,
- 2:24Speaker 4: I think. And and honestly, the last I think the
- 2:28Speaker 4: last like two years in particular of my life has
- 2:32Speaker 4: been a lot about being on the other side of
- 2:35Speaker 4: the audience experience. I think like so many of my
- 2:41Speaker 4: so many years of my life has been spent touring,
- 2:45Speaker 4: where it's been like me on a stage, and I
- 2:49Speaker 4: think the last couple of years, I had a really
- 2:52Speaker 4: nice opportunity to be like a true audience member and
- 2:56Speaker 4: kind of remind myself like how special it is to
- 3:00Speaker 4: be experiencing live music with strangers and dancing and singing
- 3:05Speaker 4: with them, and like what that feeling is about. And
- 3:10Speaker 4: I think for me wanting to play the music and
- 3:14Speaker 4: feeling ready to do that, like I'm ready to play
- 3:16Speaker 4: this in a room and play it loud and dance
- 3:19Speaker 4: with people, that kind of was the capitalist to say, like, Okay,
- 3:23Speaker 4: I'm ready to start like thinking about putting this out
- 3:28Speaker 4: into the world.
- 3:29Speaker 6: I feel like between the obviously the disco ball on
- 3:32Speaker 6: the cover operture being the lead single, there's a theme
- 3:36Speaker 6: of light, which is so beautiful and I feel like
- 3:39Speaker 6: so needed right now.
- 3:41Speaker 7: Why is that? Why did you choose light as a theme.
- 3:45Speaker 4: I think a lot of it, you know, for me
- 3:48Speaker 4: personally taking a break from a lot of work stuff
- 3:52Speaker 4: the last couple of years, I think between working and
- 3:58Speaker 4: then touring, and also you know, I started the tour
- 4:03Speaker 4: the last talk kind of coming out of COVID, and
- 4:06Speaker 4: then that all kind of kept going, so I kind
- 4:11Speaker 4: of remained in kind of a bubble of sorts for
- 4:17Speaker 4: quite a long time, and I think as I felt
- 4:21Speaker 4: my life beginning to get more isolated, I think I
- 4:27Speaker 4: just took a moment to kind of try and reset
- 4:31Speaker 4: that and say, you know, when you're closing off to
- 4:36Speaker 4: a lot of things, you're also like shutting out a
- 4:39Speaker 4: lot of the positive things that can come into your life.
- 4:42Speaker 4: So to me, the first song and a lot of
- 4:47Speaker 4: the album in general, but Aperture in particular. The reason
- 4:50Speaker 4: why it's called aperture is like you control like how
- 4:53Speaker 4: much light you let into your life. And I think
- 4:57Speaker 4: the start of this year and I kind of just
- 5:01Speaker 4: decided I was going to say yes to everything, and
- 5:04Speaker 4: the momentum of that has just brought like so many
- 5:08Speaker 4: positive things in a lot of different ways into my
- 5:11Speaker 4: life and it's been a really beautiful time in my
- 5:14Speaker 4: life for that. So that's that's kind of you know,
- 5:19Speaker 4: why this song was the one that I wanted to
- 5:22Speaker 4: start with because it was a big time of change
- 5:25Speaker 4: for me. And I think also just when I would
- 5:31Speaker 4: play people the music, it was always the song that
- 5:33Speaker 4: I played first. It was like this, I think represents
- 5:36Speaker 4: it's perfect.
- 5:37Speaker 7: It's so perfect I want.
- 5:38Speaker 4: To do and what I want to say and where
- 5:42Speaker 4: I'm at in my life. And I think there's nothing
- 5:46Speaker 4: more fulfilling, I think as a musician than putting out
- 5:50Speaker 4: a song that you feel like represents where you're at
- 5:54Speaker 4: in your life. I think sometimes you know, you write
- 5:57Speaker 4: a song and by the time it comes out, you've
- 6:01Speaker 4: kind of been through a bunch of things and you're
- 6:03Speaker 4: not really kind of aligned with necessarily what is happening
- 6:08Speaker 4: in the song. And I think I really felt it
- 6:11Speaker 4: when we put as it was at where I felt like, oh,
- 6:13Speaker 4: I feel like this really represents where I'm at in
- 6:15Speaker 4: this moment, and that felt really fulfilling. So I think
- 6:19Speaker 4: kind of I wanted to do that again this time,
- 6:21Speaker 4: and and just I feel great about like pressing play
- 6:27Speaker 4: and going like I want to play something. And that's
- 6:31Speaker 4: kind of why I ended up being the first first.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Song apertard to me, it was a word that I
- 6:35Speaker 3: had never set up until May me three days ago.
- 6:37Speaker 7: Yeah, same, Was that a word that.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Was in your vocabulary at all times? Like, is that
- 6:42Speaker 5: something that you always used?
- 6:44Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know that I used it a ton,
- 6:47Speaker 4: but I've been around enough photographers. Okay, I heard it
- 6:51Speaker 4: a couple of times, but yeah, it was it was
- 6:57Speaker 4: kind of like used in the song as the lyric
- 7:00Speaker 4: and then decided to and then it was like, oh,
- 7:02Speaker 4: this is a perfect title for this song, and it
- 7:05Speaker 4: was it's track one. So it felt like a perfect
- 7:08Speaker 4: beginning to the album. The idea of opening up and
- 7:11Speaker 4: going to this kind of new phase and stuff.
- 7:14Speaker 5: It feels like a journey. The song.
- 7:16Speaker 3: It has like a whole beginning, middle, and it's like
- 7:19Speaker 3: it's it's incredible.
- 7:20Speaker 7: Speaking of lyrics.
- 7:21Speaker 6: Speaking of lyrics, I you are so thoughtful and intentional
- 7:26Speaker 6: with your lyrics. I know that you put so much
- 7:28Speaker 6: thought into all of this. And the thing that's so
- 7:31Speaker 6: beautiful is art and music that you make. It's so personal,
- 7:35Speaker 6: but it's also so universal. And there's a line in
- 7:38Speaker 6: particular you say, I want to know what's safe is
- 7:41Speaker 6: and I think every human being craves safety, and so
- 7:44Speaker 6: I wanted to know what that lyric means for you
- 7:47Speaker 6: in your life.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think really like it kind of
- 7:54Speaker 4: comes back to the opening up as well. I think
- 7:56Speaker 4: really everyone wants to feel safe. That's like all anybody
- 8:02Speaker 4: really wants. Relationships in your life or in the spaces
- 8:06Speaker 4: that you occupy or when you're at home, you want
- 8:10Speaker 4: to feel safe, like all you know, all of those
- 8:12Speaker 4: things that I think sounds so simple, But I think
- 8:16Speaker 4: when you're closed off in certain ways, then it's harder
- 8:22Speaker 4: to feel like known, and therefore harder to feel accepted,
- 8:26Speaker 4: and therefore harder to feel safe. So I think for me,
- 8:31Speaker 4: I've found the more like vulnerable I've ever been with people,
- 8:37Speaker 4: the safer I end up feeling, even if it's like
- 8:40Speaker 4: scary in the moment, it's beautiful. It's a real like
- 8:44Speaker 4: to me, it's just yeah, I think I think lyrically
- 8:50Speaker 4: and stuff, and just with with the album in general,
- 8:53Speaker 4: I think a lot of the time it's kind of
- 8:57Speaker 4: like with the listener, it's like, Okay, take my hand,
- 9:00Speaker 4: I'm going to tell you all about my experiences. And
- 9:04Speaker 4: what I hope for this album is like I'm encouraging
- 9:09Speaker 4: you to have your own experiences, and I'm kind of
- 9:12Speaker 4: going having these experiences is amazing. You should go do
- 9:16Speaker 4: that as well, and I'm going to like be here
- 9:19Speaker 4: with you kind of making the music for you to
- 9:22Speaker 4: have experiences.
- 9:25Speaker 1: But I feel like.
- 9:25Speaker 4: It's a lot less about like here's exactly what I
- 9:29Speaker 4: did in my life. This is like a what's happening
- 9:32Speaker 4: in my life? And more like the kind of a
- 9:36Speaker 4: commentary on like the joy that I found by experiencing
- 9:40Speaker 4: different things, and therefore I think it would be a
- 9:43Speaker 4: positive thing for you to go do that as well.
- 9:45Speaker 7: You know, beautiful.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I'm going to get back to the chat Sysney and
- 9:48Speaker 2: Tanya had with Harry Styles, but first let's play Aperture.
- 9:51Speaker 1: You haven't heard it yet, they asked Harry.
- 9:53Speaker 2: What does he want to say to fans before they
- 9:55Speaker 2: hear Aperture for the first time.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I'd love to just say thank you.
- 10:02Speaker 4: I think the the way that they've like made me
- 10:09Speaker 4: feel about them wanting me to just be who I
- 10:14Speaker 4: am in the moment and like make wherever I'm at
- 10:19Speaker 4: in the moment, and then being open to that and
- 10:22Speaker 4: then being patient for that and waiting, you know, not
- 10:26Speaker 4: wanting me to do it before I'm ready to do it.
- 10:29Speaker 4: And I think when you go away for a long time,
- 10:32Speaker 4: it's it's you know, I don't assume that there's people
- 10:38Speaker 4: waiting when you come back necessarily. And I think even
- 10:44Speaker 4: since I announcing the album and stuff, I think I
- 10:47Speaker 4: felt so loved by them and it's made me.
- 10:52Speaker 8: Feel like really wonderful and full and that I'm coming
- 10:57Speaker 8: back for the right reason because there's like a group
- 11:00Speaker 8: of amazing people that I want to play music for.
- 11:03Speaker 4: So yeah, just to thank you really, and I can't
- 11:07Speaker 4: wait to see him out there. I'll be right there
- 11:09Speaker 4: with him.
- 11:10Speaker 2: New music this morning from Harry Styles. It is called Aperture. Now.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I think you talk a little fashion here for the tour,
- 11:18Speaker 1: right sisney An Tania.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Yeah, we did, and we talked about his process of
- 11:22Speaker 3: making music, you know, his tour, and of course, yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 3: how should we dress for the concerts?
- 11:27Speaker 1: Here's what he said.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I think this is the most open I've felt with
- 11:31Speaker 4: the music making process as well. I think before I
- 11:36Speaker 4: was more guarded. I think when I was making the
- 11:39Speaker 4: last couple of records around who was hearing it until
- 11:41Speaker 4: it was finished and stuff? And I think with this one,
- 11:45Speaker 4: I was much more open about playing demos to friends
- 11:49Speaker 4: and like just playing it, and it became really obvious
- 11:53Speaker 4: that it was music that was meant to be played
- 11:55Speaker 4: and played loud. So I think everyone's different. The experience
- 12:00Speaker 4: is the way that they like to experience music. Like
- 12:02Speaker 4: I love listening to it alone in my car, I
- 12:05Speaker 4: love listening to music with friends, and I think the
- 12:08Speaker 4: album is. You can have very different kind of joonies
- 12:13Speaker 4: with it depending on how you listen to it. I
- 12:15Speaker 4: love listening to it like sitting still in headphones and
- 12:20Speaker 4: listening to it that way. I love listening to it driving.
- 12:23Speaker 4: I love being with friends. So I hope that everyone
- 12:28Speaker 4: will have like several different experiences with it.
- 12:31Speaker 5: You know, I pre ordered the vinyl, so I'm excited
- 12:34Speaker 5: to listen to.
- 12:35Speaker 1: It that way.
- 12:36Speaker 4: I appreciate that.
- 12:37Speaker 7: I'm looking forward to listening to it live.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you on tour because yeah, that's right, of course, obviously,
- 12:48Speaker 3: of course there's no chance.
- 12:50Speaker 7: And we're so so excited about the tour.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so thirty nights at Madison Square Garden in New York.
- 12:56Speaker 5: That is incredible. I do have to ask, though, are
- 13:00Speaker 5: you coming to Los Angeles?
- 13:02Speaker 4: Like what we'll see? Yeah?
- 13:05Speaker 1: I like it.
- 13:05Speaker 5: We'll see, I'll take it.
- 13:06Speaker 7: We'll see.
- 13:08Speaker 3: And Harry Harry styles, what is the dress code for
- 13:12Speaker 3: us to all attend this?
- 13:14Speaker 4: I think I want you to go. Well, i'd say
- 13:19Speaker 4: is like comfy shoes, yes, speaking the.
- 13:25Speaker 5: Language, dance, you know, Yes, that's that's it.
- 13:30Speaker 4: We'll like be in it together.
- 13:32Speaker 7: We'll be dancing always.
- 13:34Speaker 6: I cannot wait that's so thank you so much for
- 13:40Speaker 6: yes the time.
- 13:41Speaker 4: So much this morning. Appreciate it.
- 13:44Speaker 6: It's been so long and we are so happy to
- 13:47Speaker 6: have you back. It's like you knew we were in
- 13:48Speaker 6: a drought and we needed Yes, we needed the water
- 13:50Speaker 6: from you. You knew it's been raining, and you brought
- 13:52Speaker 6: the sunshine came back.
- 13:54Speaker 3: When we needed you the most in this world that
- 13:56Speaker 3: we're all living in.
- 13:58Speaker 5: So thank you, Harry Styles. Though Yes we belong together.
- 14:06Speaker 5: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 14:08Speaker 7: Aperture is out now.

- 14:28Speaker 2: of the chat. He revealed so much that I've just
- 14:31Speaker 2: been wondering about in this first conversation. It's going to
- 14:34Speaker 2: be up on our podcast feed very very soon.
