- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Worship music becomes the way that those psalms get sung to us nowadays because a lot of times worship songs are based on psalms.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Hi friend, welcome back to the podcast.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: We are going through our series of being a friend of God.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: And I've loved what we've covered so far.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Today I want to talk about how a good friend will freely give praise.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: When you love someone, it's really easy to give them compliments, right?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: It's easy when you're a close friend with someone to see the good in them, to see the parts of them that you love and that you bring that out by telling them, right?
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: And words can freely flow when you care about someone and love someone.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Because you see the good in them, it's easy to see.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And I think that's what I want to talk about with God today.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: How when we love him, it's easy to adore him and praise him.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And that's part of being a good friend to him.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: In Psalm 34, one, it says, I will praise the Lord at all times.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: I will constantly speak his praises.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: The Berean Bible says, His praise will always be on my lips.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And that's similar to a worship song that I love.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: It says, Your praise will ever be on my lips.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So just as we would do for a close friend, right?
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: We would encourage them, we would praise them, we would call out their strengths.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: We should be directing our praise toward God in prayer.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And that should be just a part of our everyday life and not just a one-time thing, like just saying that in the morning, but saying it throughout our day.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And one way that I kind of bring this into my life is through songs, through worship songs.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: And I remember just talking to my husband the other night.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: We were on a date and he said, What is like your favorite book in the Bible?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: And I've had people ask me this before.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: And it's hard to pick a favorite because there's so many good ones, but I know right away my favorite is Psalms.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And Psalms is just this beautiful collection of heartfelt prayers and emotions to God.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: It's poetry, it's music.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: And we don't have the actual music that they played, but we have the words back then.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: And they're so filled with emotion.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: And I think that there are so many psalms that represent how my emotions are in this life that we live.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: And I thought about it like if I was on a desert island and I only had one book to take with me, I think I would take the psalms because it just would help you through those low lows and through the high highs, through everything.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Because there are there's a psalm for every emotion that we feel.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And I think this kind of brings out to how worship music has played such a role in my writing and in just everything I do, because worship music becomes the way that those psalms get sung to us nowadays.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Because a lot of times worship songs are based on psalms and they have those words in them.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: So psalms have become just this part of my soul as I write and speak and do things.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: And they're a way that I praise God.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: So when I talk about being a good friend to God and praising him through words, it can happen through psalms and it can happen through worship music.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And if you ever feel like, because I know I felt like, oh, there's this pressure to praise him, right?
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Right when I start praying, I should praise him.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I can't think of something, right?
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: But the psalms do that so beautifully.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So you can pray to him a psalm or you can pray to him a worship song and say, Lord, this is my heart to you.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And that's just a beautiful way to reflect what we see in him, right?
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Like we said that um last week we were saying you see things in your friend, right?
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Like, and so this week we're talking about when you see something in them, you praise it, you say it out loud.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So the more we get to know God, the more we can intentionally praise him out loud and say those praises.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: And this doesn't have to be a long, drawn-out thing.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have to be like a, I'm gonna spend 30 minutes just praising and talking.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: It could be just a few moments where you say, Lord, you are so tender.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: I love your tenderness.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Lord, you are so kind.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: You are so just.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: I love that you actually bring forth justice when I feel like there's nothing in the world that is just right now.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: God, you are so magnificent the way you created the world.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: You're so detailed.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Like I'm looking at a flower right now, and the detail of it is just so intricate.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: There are so many ways we can praise and worship him throughout our day.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Noticing him, noticing the qualities about him that are beautiful and praiseworthy, and then speaking those out loud, whether that be in a prayer, in a song, reading a psalm.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: There are so many ways to praise him.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: It's important that you ask yourself this.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: How has he shown his influence and might in your life and call out those specific things that he has done for you?
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: And that is one way to be a great friend to God.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: I'll see you next week.
