- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Today I want to share a quick story about my dad, and I hope that this story gives you some inspiration to keep on going.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: My father, Don Sanders, is a Vietnam veteran, and for years we've talked about putting together a book about his experiences in Vietnam.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And last year we decided this was a great time to get started.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: After all, he's 75 and I'm no spring chicken either.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: So for Father's Day of last year, I gave him a nice leather journal and I asked him to start writing down some stories from Vietnam.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And I figured that he would write 10 or 20 pages of notes for us to discuss and then he would verbally tell me the stories, because this is how I approach most ghostwriting projects.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Well, a couple of months later, when my dad came to my house to visit, he handed me the leather journal and I said, Well, what's this?
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: I was confused because I didn't understand why he was giving this back to me.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Well, then he explained that he'd been working almost every day to write down all his memories from Vietnam.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And when I opened the journal, I saw that he had filled nearly every page top to bottom.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And later on, he gave me even more pages that he wrote in a different notebook.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So in just a couple of months, my dad had handwritten the first draft of the book, which was over 200 handwritten pages.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And this is from a man who has struggled with multiple health problems from Agent Orange exposure as well as having arthritis in his hands.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I'm still in awe of this accomplishment.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: So the next time that you think you can't write one more word or you're feeling a little bit tired, just remember my dad, Don Sanders, the Vietnam veteran who handwrote a book in just two months.
