- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Three Yards Perkati, a podcast covering the Miami Dolphins and the NFL.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_03]: My Annie had the dolphins The greatest football team We've taken the ball for goal to goal I know it's ever seen We're in the air, we're on the ground We're always in control And when you say my Annie You're talking super full Cause we're the my Annie And we're on this is three hours per carry I'm afraid to argue, I got some enclancias here Chris Kaufman is here And as always three or five eight hundred pain We have brought two by three or five eight hundred pain
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, a little wind streak here, uh, some little bit of pain, little bit, little bit, little bit of pain.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: Someone, yeah, some winds are better than others and some winds leave you wanting more.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is one of them and we'll get to it.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: Some good, a lot of bad in this one.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: 305800 pain better business bureau accredited with an A plus rating your car accident personal injury specialist fast connections with trusted doctors and attorneys always ready to take your call 24 seven again that's three or five eight hundred pain
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: Naturally, we're going to start in college football because it's just so much analysis we could give on to his terrible game yesterday.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, did you know that his last three quarters in that game?
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: There is first quarter, actually.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting stat today.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: It was on NFL live.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, no, Kristen's had this stat with his psychic who his name escapes me.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: Tutunkovalo's first quarter was among the four best quarters in all of football this season.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: His last three quarters was seven for 16 and like the fifth worst passer rating of any quarterback this season for three quarters.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_06]: How was his first quarter because he was at one point he was two or five for like 23 yards.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: He was five of seven for 83 yards.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_06]: That's, that's among the best first quarters.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, well, that, well, but the, the among his best first quarters.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe his, I don't know, it's Christmas says among the best first quarters.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: That can't even, it can't, it's not even among his best first quarters.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's not even unusual, like the Dolphin score quick, you know, that's their pattern.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_06]: It might be among his best first call as in November 2025 against a team from New Orleans.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think so, everything.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think you've been nailed it.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't trust Chris.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't trust Chris.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: I don't trust him.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: I don't trust that staff.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: The real number is 7 for 16 for 76 yards the rest of the game.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's the real step.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: Don't even think it was that good.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think that overstates it.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_06]: Yes, it was a, yes, it was a really good day for pretty much everybody really, because if you wanted the dolphins to win, you got what you wanted.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_06]: If you hate to, you got what you wanted.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_06]: And if you don't like the kind of the mechanism of the entire team, like Chris and I don't, certainly,
- 3:27[SPEAKER_06]: You also got loads to bitch about.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_06]: So for everybody else, everyone was a winner yesterday.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: It really was, the HM people got to beat their tests.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you know, it's exactly two and two and two and two and two and two and one.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_06]: I think the other people are still in that two where it is like, I mean, we've had arguments with we've had arguments on social media with people this year.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_06]: People go, he's definitely a top-tech quarterback.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_06]: It's like, Lance, he's probably about 24 or 25th the league and he's getting worse if you're in that cross-exaggeration.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_06]: So unless you're an absolute still and absolute too high, but then it yes, it was a bad day, but for everybody else, it was pretty much win win win win all the way around.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, now he's uh, he's moved himself into that lower third like he's bad now.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's not just bad games, it's who he is now and who he is because this is how I evaluate quarterbacks and at a college too is, you know, I'm not you have to really separate the because everybody can have a bad game everybody can have a mediocre game or something like that.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's about who you are now and who he is is completely different, who he is is completely different than it used to be I like in it to and I know that this is a mine field for sports podcast to step into the world of politics, but you know how like Joe Biden within like two years was completely unrecognizable.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: like, you know, two or three years from like, you look at old clips or something like that versus, you know, new clips and you're just like, whoa, that is what that is, that is really different or, you know, if you look at on a football level on a quarterback level, if you look at, you know,
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and from top two, hideous.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and acting, Mickey, that's actually a good one.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: And so like the difference, the difference is just so tremendous.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: Simon, I think you brought this up a couple of weeks ago, like you watch the legendary Arizona game.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: and it's just like watching a completely different player, but what is very striking is how quick, how short amount of time, the short amount of time that that much difference is happening.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that is very striking and very concerning, because it's like, if you're mapping a trajectory, where's the skill one?
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, it's getting worse.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_06]: It's the poke.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_06]: awareness panic, that's the thing that shocks me the most.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_06]: Like, you're the fear that don't know what to do that get really shrink and like throw the one to the ground and fall on the floor and where as you go back to the hours on a game, as you can people and it was come on, take you on, look this way, go that way, like, you know, duck under people, run around a bit, it was like, it was still doing that like two years ago.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, like he was really says cosplaying is two of
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: My issue is that, and I guess we're going to get into to it now, and we'll talk a little link here from before this first half of the show is done, and we introduced you to two new sponsors for the month, but my issue with to it is just, and I know that Chris said that it did really bother him too much.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: It bothers the hell out of me.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: The interception is a simple bow go,
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: combination.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: It sounds exactly how it looks exactly how it's on.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's a bow route underneath a go route.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: And if you recognize the coverage and to well obviously recognizes it because he throws a blind to the go because he thinks it's a tamper on that side of the field.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually a split field coverage.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: Cover six on that side.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's tamper to the play side.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: Toa is staring at Kool-Aid McIntyre's ass, running away from him and still throws the ball.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: Buddy, there's going to be two guys down there now.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: throw the bow all that is wide open underneath to wall it was wrong he never looked anywhere there was never a moment where it wasn't anything other than catch and tried that that route that was he was like oh it's it's it's it's you know it's split field cover two okay I know that this is to the corner you know and it's going to be a
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's just dumb.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: But the reason I didn't mind it is because when he co-directed before the before he threw the ball, is that safety had his hips completely turned away, had his hips completely turned away from the, from the, the go-row, from the receiver.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that he was just being, I don't, I don't, I don't view it as a complete brain dead moment.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_02]: I view it as a two aggressive moment.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: which is something that you come across when you're watching quarterbacks.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I think lately, from a leadership on down, from Mike McDaniel down, he has excused those sort of arm punt to aggressive going for it, you know, and getting the intersection.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like he has excused those things to where there's signs that basically, I mean, listen, they're leaning on the run game now.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: Mike McDaniel has found religion.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: Um, in order to lean on the run game as much as they, they are, they need to take shots to keep a defense honest, right?
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: They need, and, and it's, and if it's an interception, it's almost like if it's an interception, yeah, that's bad for one drive.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: But it might be good for four more drives.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it might be good for four other drives because it can loosen up the defense and, and keep,
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: So you've almost gotten the feeling that Mike McDaniel is okay if I call a shot, play you take the shot, unless it's as you mentioned a completely wrong coverage.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: And that played like the guy had his hips completely turned away from the receiver, and I think he was just to aggressive, and he's not going to hit the whole shot, like, you know, he's not going to he's not going to just and Herbert it into into a into that that small window vertically, you know, before the safety can get back and steady floats it.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he floats it and it gives the safety plenty of opportunity to go out and run it and run under it.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying it was a good call.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm saying it was too aggressive.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that from leadership on down there, they're excusing that.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, I come away.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, listen, they're about a dozen plays.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: I would look at it.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, by the way, on that play, the Saints blew the coverage.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Saints blew the coverage.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Cooling my history supposed to just sit there.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he leaves all of that area, gaping space, wide open for water to just walk into and just catch a 30-yard ball.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm going down there.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think you focused on it's a shot place.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to take the shot.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm going to use my eyes to try and free up the shot.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_02]: And there's probably a dozen plays that sit there and excoriate the man for.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: Before I start talking about that, or start talking about the Darren Waller throw in the back of the end zone, where Darren Waller, like actually lost his footing.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: you know, in the back of the end or last lost track of his footing in the back of the end zone.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: I just think he was terrible on so many throws on so many, it's like terribly inaccurate.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_06]: Some of the Julian Hill played it.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_06]: It was like, oh, hey, I was running that way.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_06]: The bulls turn behind him.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_06]: He's turning his entire body.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's a still I think I think I think it's a two wrongs don't make a right thing, you know, you know, you know, you're not going to, I'm not going to jolly and hills being treated like a hero on the broadcast for some reason, which was terrible broadcast.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it was the what.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I mean, like, you know, that's a two rungs to make two rungs thing.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, there's a lot of other tight ends or would have made that catch.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan Hills, not one of them.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and you know, you don't throw any 25 yards downfield in Dutton to double carry.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's a terrible front front.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_06]: It's definitely like, that's a terrible front.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_06]: He's getting what the, the problem.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_06]: And I think there's such a wider, like we can go into all these different areas of the contract, which is so corrosive.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_06]: the decision for whoever the new general manager is going to be so enormous because the general manager's decision, whichever way he goes, let's just say it's for for one of the bad, because I can't figure whether we ask, let's just say Fred Smith of the Montreal Alex comes in this year.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_06]: Fred Smith has to decide, do I stick with his guy who's clearly physically almost incapable now moving forward?
- 12:31[SPEAKER_06]: He can't play the position.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_06]: You know, he, he shoes the opportunity to pick up first down to these legs because he's too scared to do so.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_06]: And he just, you know, he's mechanics are the same, he's accuracy is falling all of these things.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_06]: Do I sit and ride with this kid for another year knowing that it's not going to be any better in fact for me, I'm going to get worse declining, but I've got to do that because of the money.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_06]: But that could affect my job because we could end up going two and or three and whatever because he's just not very good or do I get rid of him.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_06]: Quite incompletely, and do it after June 1st and save us that 60 million and then go and get a mark I'm sorry, still have to suck that 65 million or whatever it is.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and you don't have to come to our mark as Mario to whatever and just say you know what we're just going to ride with these days for a year We'll get to the 27 draft and there's going to be 62,000 core backs in their draft
- 13:27[SPEAKER_06]: And that's a massive decision on the other side because he's also putting his own job at threat because that could also go really badly wrong because you know, you're going to play JV guys because the money that you're choking on because of what you're going to have to do with the quarterback.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_06]: It's such a fascinating
- 13:42[SPEAKER_06]: plex awful thing that that we now find ourselves in because clearly they experiment or experiment.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_06]: Remember that the clear the two are window is over.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_06]: It's just fascinating to see do they just cut ties completely swallow the money and just think bucket we're in a full reset, hard reset or do they kind of limp their way through with two and it's you're knowing that it's
- 14:05[SPEAKER_06]: It just looks ugly and it's looked ugly all season.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_06]: I don't think it's down to the offense, the play calling, the lack of Tirek, all of these things, just him and it's,
- 14:17[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, whoever that new gym is going to be, whether that's Fred Smith or Alec Hallaby or whoever, there's some huge huge decisions and you're going to have to think pretty long and hard about whether or not you take a job given that those are the parameters that you're going to have to come in on.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what was worse because of the head coach.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and then you're stuck in the middle of the head coach, like who clearly, and you made the point, is they Chris, I think it was just on WhatsApp on it, just chatting, he said like the way the broadcast is clearly been.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_06]: They clearly sit down with the Dania, they were chatting with Danil, it's almost like they're leaning, they're just trying to steer people towards the Mike with Daniel Camp, I don't waive from the two of Camp, and it almost, you know, it's like a sign-me-s twins, and they're trying to get an actual separation, and they're trying to pull, and they're trying to pull, and what's gonna happen, and this elastic and a snap on both of them, does one survive?
- 15:11[SPEAKER_06]: I just can't see them both surviving, going into next year, and that works to me as the fascinating thing.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think over the higher as the general manager is going to be pretty secure in that first year.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to have the honeymoon period that if he suggests to burn down the stadium, people will be like, okay, let's go get some care scene.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: Let's burn this place down.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: But who's this head coach while he does that?
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, because because whoever's your head coach while you do that, like this is the problem that they had with Brian Flores, right?
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he, he wanted to make more out of 2019 than certainly the rest of the dolphins did, uh, the including ownership, right?
- 15:53[SPEAKER_02]: And, uh, and what had coaches going to come in saying, I'm okay with putting a putting together a three and 14 record in my first year coaching as if that's not going to harm my reputation regardless of what I'm dealing with.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_06]: better by the past, but you know, kind of a green horn going to come in and have that on his record.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_06]: No.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_06]: Is it old, then widely, like a Jason Dara or whatever, Mike McCarthy, are they going to want to take that?
- 16:27[SPEAKER_06]: No.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_06]: No.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_06]: Guys like Kevin's to fancy Kevin O'Connor, who might find himself in trouble, are they going to want that on their resume?
- 16:35[SPEAKER_06]: No.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_06]: Both of them have had, you know, both those two Kevin, so I think Mike
- 16:44[SPEAKER_06]: Both of them have had significant core back issues.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I'll call all everyone to respond in the court about whisperer, but, you know, they've cycled through Kirk Cousins and the guy whose name escapes me, but came in and played, you know, to back into season, Josh, whatever his name is.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_06]: Um, now and then.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_06]: Yes, they had, um, obviously, JJ McCarthy, they had Sam Dahlard, they had the nightmare so it was Max Brozmer, which, you know, for interceptions, including that actually horrendous 84 yard pic six to Ernest Jones, where he just chuckled a lot for grab, because somebody, but somebody in that building, somebody in that building in Minnesota played, played so much with his own ego.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: that they got rid of a ready-made quarterback.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: You won 14 games with who had a great season because no, I took JJ McCarthy.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: Whoever that is, it's all about what it says.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, they have the meltdown.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_06]: Great regular season.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_06]: The meltdown of the playoffs with God.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do it.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_06]: And they decided that was it.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_06]: And McCarthy was the guy.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_06]: And the...
- 17:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that was the brosmer that was so predictable.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like the struggle.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_06]: Donald wasn't an amazing yesterday, but he's been brilliant all season, but yeah, I mean, it was a 26 nothing in the end, I think when I was watching him red zone and, you know, I mean, Jason didn't have a bunch of yards and stuff, and yet they still comfortably hammered
- 18:03[SPEAKER_06]: the the Vikings and I do think there'll be a you know I think there might be a reset and so with both the GM and the head coach.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_06]: But to go back to that point, you know, Stefanski obviously has cycled through about nine different core bases.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_06]: He can want to come into a situation or it's like I don't know what the core of
- 18:24[SPEAKER_06]: the realistic, excuse me, the realistic expectation of the draft is that Mendoza will come out.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_06]: Tyson's and his slowed a little bit over the last month or so and he's got a huge game against the very moment.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_06]: He might not come out and might not come out and he may well go back, you know, in the SEC Championship game coming up, you know, Dante Moore, there is chat that he might
- 18:48[SPEAKER_06]: the chances are I was going to go back and at that point you're probably not looking at another first round quarterback even if you know somebody unlikely that could Josh Hoover or a Darian men so or you know one or two of these other guys slightly off the radar come out I don't think art is going to come out so you know and then all of a sudden you're putting yourself if you're still fancy or you're calling to a situation where you think what am I riding with a guy that you know
- 19:13[SPEAKER_06]: For whatever you think about Michael Daniel, a really great play designer, you know, can't get over the line with.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_06]: Or am I looking at spending an entire year with Marcus Mario to help be okay for a few games, but we know what we're doing at Matt Jones.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_06]: Do I take a risk on an Anthony Richardson?
- 19:30[SPEAKER_06]: That Cosmos who looks done in, you know, in the games it's paid in Atlanta.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_06]: What?
- 19:34[SPEAKER_06]: What motivation is there for a coach to come in and just say, you know what, I'm going to be fine sucking, and I'm going to find, I'm going to call it back situation.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to find, I'll spend anything running free agency.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to be fine knowing that if we don't actually hit out the park and get archmaning or do you say it or, you know, certain somebody that, a court about they can come in, because even if you're picking first, there's no expectation that,
- 19:56[SPEAKER_06]: You know, that quarterback is going to be the right quarterback here.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_06]: If you look at the, you know, go back and look at the drafts of the last few years and see the quarterback's that have been successful in the quarterbacks that haven't.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually like good luck to be picked the third quarterback in the first.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, you know, just for every trabiscuit is on the homes for every, you know,
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I saw I watched Bo Nix Rose then had Rose and Josh Allen.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, but so I can't, how I mean, that Denver team is good, but Bo Nix is really not very good.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_06]: You just think like, I don't know, that it is a hard, there's only 32 of those jobs in the world, right?
- 20:35[SPEAKER_06]: as a head coach but that is a hard ask to say yeah we just want you to come in and be pummeled for at least three years and we don't really know what the callback situation is and you're not going to have a lot of cash because we don't have to pay off a loan these guys anyway so especially the callback that nobody really wants anymore so um so if you don't mind just been a complete ask and everybody hating you for three years they've got a good luck
- 20:57[SPEAKER_06]: but you'll get, you know, for me, it needs to do it, but everybody will help you.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: So two questions that leads me to two questions for the two of you is, okay, put that together with the other thing that I started talking about today, which is the timing of the GM hiring, right?
- 21:13[SPEAKER_02]: Which is, they're gonna have to go through that process immediately after regular season ends, because that's the first time that you can interview people for the GM, right?
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: As you can interview people that aren't employed, that's fine.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_02]: But we're not talking about them.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about guys that are with other teams is the day after the regular season ends Monday.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: So the window opens for first interviews for your head coach candidates.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_02]: the following day like Tuesday Wednesday for those number one seeds as well as any team that's not in the playoffs, right?
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: And if you don't interview guys during that window, which is either that Tuesday or Wednesday, which is like the day after you're interviewing people for your GM job, right?
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: Um, if you don't interview during that first window or the following week, then you don't get a shot, you don't get second interviews either.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: You have to wait until the season's done, right?
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like, so that's the way the NFL is.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a there's a challenge where if you're going through your GM cycle, um, in the first week of, you know, whatever after the after this regular season ends,
- 22:24[SPEAKER_02]: and try and hire.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: You might have to wait a month while your guys that you like that you want to interview are interviewing twice with other teams and not allowed to interview with you because of the rules because that's the rules.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: So you have this big disadvantage if you're trying to hire both the GM and the head coach at the same time.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: So given that,
- 22:51[SPEAKER_02]: And given all the things that you just talked about Simon like, is this a we're handing somebody a grenade and it might as well be Mike McDaniel like, you know, like now.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: whoever, whoever we're handing this situation to, it is a grenade and it might as well be the guy who's already kind of screwed up as some of his chances.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: Right, like he squandered some of his opportunities already and he can't hardly complain about.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: So that's first question.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_02]: Should it be Mike McDaniel on that basis alone?
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: Second question, does Mike McDaniel do it out him gasted and refuse it?
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: Because Adam Gace was fired, specifically Steve Ross said, Adam Gace did not want to be part of this reset.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: He was not up for this.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_02]: So does Mike McDaniel step out and say, I'm not in favor of the hard restart that you're talking.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, I don't think so and I'll tell you why.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Gaze had won your left on his contract with Daniel has three.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: So yes, well, unless he doesn't like money.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but there's 12 million dollars to say, yeah, I'll blow myself up.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_06]: It's a good point, isn't it?
- 24:10[SPEAKER_06]: It's a good point.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 24:11[SPEAKER_06]: So, if they keep me Daniel, do you think that there's a possibility that they go to a team such as the 49ers who've had a pretty stable front office with the same kind of people there for many, many years when you look at Toree Garment and RJ Gillin and obviously the GM John Lynch but also Paragmarathay and guys like that and think, you know what, if we're going to have to write who in Daniel, then rather than just pairing with a GM that doesn't
- 24:37[SPEAKER_06]: So there's essentially just a whole lane duck situation, you at least pair in with somebody that does know him, has worked with him, does understand him, and at least there's some sort of relationship there, rather than just plucking an alic haliby or a dawn upon tea or somebody who doesn't know him at all, and just think, right, we're going to have to try and gel these two together because we're going, we're stuck with Mike because we just can't go through the entire process of Chris as just outlined.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's my thinking on this is to hire a ZAR, a haliby, or whoever, or a re-ag knew, a whoever.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to oversee the two minions below him, which is the general manager and the head coach.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_06]: And for that's a hell of a promotion for somebody who's never even been a GM for haliby or acne.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_06]: Like, let's do it.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_06]: To me, a ZAR would be an Apomtai.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, or a, or a, or a saving, like, or saving, and have them have them watched them for a year.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're going to pair Mike McDaniel with his guy, whoever that his, maybe his champ Kelly.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: But watch it for a year.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_06]: It's like a tuckie actually, who they just hide wheelstein as new head coach.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_06]: So that would not surprise me if Kelly was the next.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_06]: Domino to fool with Kentucky because that's where we went to where we went to college and yeah, I do agree.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: I do agree with that.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: I think that if you if you take that approach with the the ZAR, like you said, you know, up on day, you know, I doubt your, I wish they could get salmon to do that.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I don't, I don't think it's going to happen.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, if they do that, then there's a possibility, but whoever that, I think they have to have that GM type, whoever, you know, the depending on who it is.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that they have to have that GM type, you know, because there are certain things that come with it.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: from the 49ers or somebody, somebody that is Empatico with, um, Emma might be champ Kelly, um, Empatico with Mike McDaniel because Mike McDaniel's going to be for one more year, um, but, you know, don't buy a house, you know, like, and that's, and that's, that's a tough thing to do in this business.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: That is a really tough because reputationally, that's a tough thing to do.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: from in the NFL because it is a it is a small you know it is a small pond and I think that the dolphins are going to have to be very careful about what they do reputationally and how they handle is so so I think the default is just to go through the cycle normally quite normally and higher the best GM and yes I'm in you might be right it might be some guy
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: like Alec Alibi or somebody who has no experience with mechanical, no special, you know, you know, some like compatibility with mechanical and and just mechanical is here for another year because he's the only person that can hold the grenade for a year, you know, and and this is a grenade.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_06]: and it is left field.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_06]: Brian Hartline.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_06]: It's a sort of Steve Ross movie, isn't it?
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Steve Ross movie is the higher van's Joseph.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and he loves the van's Phil Jason Garrett.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, or Jason Garrett.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, he loves Jason Garrett.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, Mike McCarthy, I could easily see that happening.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: He loves he does love him some vans Joseph and he loves you know, and he likes he likes the other he likes Jason Garrett as well, but yeah, I think yeah, a little a little background on that I think we've talked about it before on the pod, Steve Ross was actually upset when he lost fans Joseph to the Broncos the first time.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: and was wondering if there was a way to block it and he was advised to know you don't block your DC leaving for a head coaching job.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: You just don't do it.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually not possible.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but he was thinking about is there a way, you know?
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, he really likes Frank Stosof.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's that's a known that's a known fact.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, he's had two interviews.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: He had one interview here, didn't he?
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: Ben Stosof?
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: During the, you, you got an interview, didn't you?
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: For the floor is cycle, I believe, all right, or was it for the McDaniel's cycle?
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: I forget it.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_06]: Here's some names.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_06]: Somebody's put up like 20 names of, uh, of hate coaches, right?
- 29:27[SPEAKER_06]: Hmm, Clint Ubeak, Seahawks offensive call in there.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_06]: Michael Flur, Rams, Josh McDaniels, I mean,
- 29:35[SPEAKER_06]: Fans Joe's in his fourth, Jim Swartz's fifth, Steve Spagnorist, it's Clay Kubi, I guess, seventh, he's the 49ers offensive coordinator.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_06]: Chris Schueler is eight.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_06]: Jesse Minter, obviously, would interest Stephen Ross because Minter was at Michigan.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_06]: Jen Hathley, Joe Brady, who's kind of been limited by the fact that the,
- 29:54[SPEAKER_06]: The pills just don't have any receivers who could run fast, Cliff Kingsbury, or this you want to have Flores, Todd Munkon, Greg Roman, Campanile, Matt Berks, probably not going to happen.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_06]: Then Wes Phillips is the offensive corner of the Vikings and Clayton Adams, who's the Cowboys offensive corner.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_06]: And with some names on that list that you could absolutely see McDaniels, Joseph.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_06]: Short, what do you go there?
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you one.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Sean McDermott.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just don't think he's, I think it'd be a mistake for him to, it's looking like they got to go on the road in the playoffs.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I will say this though Simon, and they're a game, they're a game away from being out like, and ever know, they drop a couple of games and they're lost, they're, their schedule is not the easiest in the world.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: In counter to, to everything that we've been talking about was, you know, how bad of a situation it looks like for a perspective at coach.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_02]: Sean Payton took over a situation in Denver that looked similar with that Russell Wilson contract.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like that was like they were in the exact same situation with guaranteed money, heading Russell Wilson's way a lot of it in that year.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_02]: And Sean Payton took that situation over, and he just booted Russell Wilson eventually.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think that it was not an attractive situation for a guy as, I mean, as coveted as Sean Peyton, and he was extremely coveted, so coveted that the dolphins got in massive trouble for tampering with and trying to get him in Miami.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_02]: And people were very convinced by the way he was going to Miami.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, I think that it's possible that if
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's possible that some of these guys take a long term view.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's possible that some of them would say, what I need is a franchise that has a strong amount of revenue, an owner that has a lot of money, and a lot of willingness to use it, and everything else is not ultimately consequent.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, yeah, I can see it being a monocopy.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're gonna go to break and when we talk and when we come back, we'll try to talk a little a little A little positively of that game yesterday, which was hard to do.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, hard to sweep you that, I've got one other name.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_06]: John Gruden.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, man.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: I got another name.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: Have Lane Kiff and jump.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: Jump, jump, jump.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Melis, see you.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll touch on Lane Kiffin on the other side.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_02]: Would be, would be so Lane Kiffin.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, just swoop in.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: What is LSU paying you?
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: 13 million a year?
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: What do you say to 14 million a year?
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Lane Kiffin, Lane Kiffin will get on that plane.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_01]: You will get on that plane.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's a Bremember player.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, this is for the other side, but you guys know the story behind the Florida, how Florida did not get Lincoln, have you heard that story?
- 33:10[SPEAKER_02]: The rough draft of it, rough outline of it.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Lincoln, two years ago, was essentially told, yeah.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: your next like that's happening like you're going to be the next skaters coach.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: He was waiting for Billy Napier to be fired and essentially Florida took too long to fire Billy Napier.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: and unless you got wind of it that Florida was ready to offer on the deal and unless you said there is no amount they can count to.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be as high as to where we can go.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: And unless you essentially put the kabash on any link if into Florida rumor.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, we'll touch a little bit on Lake Kiffin and
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: God told him he had to go to LSU.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_06]: I loved his comment where he said he he almost got run off the road on the way to the airport and he was shocked about what the fans were saying.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_06]: What did he expect?
- 34:02[SPEAKER_06]: What did he expect?
- 34:04[SPEAKER_06]: He couldn't think.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about it on this second half because it's just hilarious.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: What's coming out of there?
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: Him telling his assistant coaches, get on this plane or there won't be a job for you.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: Hot to the plane.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: So the rest of the coaches is still there.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: There's still there.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: So we shall see we shall see if those threats really hold water And if he really is gonna empty out the entire like I don't understand like today.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's tweeting I know that we're getting into it now, but today he's tweeting spot the ball and He's putting the schedule for next year against Ole Miss.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: I let's see what gets Ole Miss.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: So not only are you Eviscerating their coaching staff.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: You're gonna take all of their players through the portal, but now you're threatening to beat them to
- 34:47[SPEAKER_03]: Of course.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what did Ole Miss do to you, Lane?
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: But first, let me tell you about Rula.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: There are a new sponsor to the podcast, taking care of your mental health shouldn't be harder than taking care of your physical health.

- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: You've got long weights and you're staring down huge out of pocket costs.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's why usually, that's what usually stops people from getting help.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's where Rula comes in.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: Rula comes with and makes therapy simple, affordable and fast.

- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: But we will like to thank them.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: So we would like to thank Factor and bringing them back to the show on a December.

- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: And we're back.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: That was a mouthful.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: All right, back to Lane Kiffin.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: Simon, the guy, we already talked about the threat he made to his assistant coaches.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: But then he went to Oxford, the people and the fine people in Oxford, how he kept referring to them to, which is like, when people keep calling you the fine people, they're, you know, it's not a compliment.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, when everybody, anybody says, with all due respect, if somebody says with all due respect, they're about to disrespect you.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: Right, that's a that's a southern thing.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, but he then says Tells the the fine people of Oxford.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I want a coach in the playoffs And I don't want to coach in the playoffs.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_01]: I want to coach all the way through.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: So if you make the and of course There's some dates coming up Wednesday is signing day and If they make the semi final that's past the deadline for the the first portal So he was gonna stay in Oxford if they let him coach
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: through signing day and the end of the first portal what was going to happen he was just going to move the entire team over tell us you and essentially a viscerate that program from within and of course they said no what do you make of that whole thing Simon because it's
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's quite a tragic at the same time.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_06]: I saw Bill Coward on Rich Eyes on the South Moon in Coward said that he thought it was disgrace to the coaching profession.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_06]: The fact that the coaching profession is about developing young men, not about chasing the green or grass whenever it raises head and the fact that you know there are rules about players transferring and they can't do certain things at certain times, but it's okay for the coaches just to leave.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_06]: Ole Miss is going to be in the playoff, you know, he works a hard to get to that point.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, what did you think it was going to happen?
- 39:17[SPEAKER_06]: The whole idea that he could coach in the playoff is just so ludicrous.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, it's not even naivety.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_06]: It's just insanity to me.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_06]: But I think two of the most fascinating things I've discovered today.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_06]: are the dog, don't even know about the dog that he had, but essentially the dog got left behind and then it was discovered that the dog didn't even live with him.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_06]: Like he almost used to fake dog for good PR, which I thought was fascinating.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_06]: And then I don't know if you I don't know if you've across like the Oxford yoga chat, but there's a whole reddit group about Oxford yoga girls, essentially just dishing the tea on all his antics and these hot yoga
- 40:00[SPEAKER_06]: Nothing I'm too old, it's just really, very funny, but yeah, I mean, seriously, I just think look, you can don't coach where every once too, it's a free market.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_06]: I just think it's been handled so badly and I completely understand why people were annoyed and trying to hold Ole Miss to rent some over, let me coach.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_06]: Knowing full, you wouldn't, you wouldn't let an employee who was going to be going up against you as a direct rival come back into the building,
- 40:29[SPEAKER_06]: take all your state secrets and get all your documents and hire all your coaches and try and tap up all your players for the next season.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, why would that?
- 40:38[SPEAKER_06]: Why would you do that?
- 40:39[SPEAKER_06]: So I completely understand all Mrs Decision and here's kind of
- 40:46[SPEAKER_06]: follow shock at how annoying people were.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_06]: I just found our best mesmerizing.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_06]: So he's an excellent football coach.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_06]: And I think he, LSU, he should win multiple national championships there.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_06]: He needs a quarterback.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_06]: And I wouldn't surprise.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_06]: It wouldn't surprise if he dipped into the ball and got a camcola from all of them to play receiver.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_06]: We'll see what happens.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_06]: Some of those really good young Ole Miss five stars and he's got bubbling away under the surface as well.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_06]: So, but yeah, I think it's, you know, that you're there to coach the kids and to be a leader and to be a father figure and to be a, you know, not to jump at the first time that the bar made fascist earth 30 million a year ain't pronounced you.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_06]: That, that to me, just sits a little bit I'm kind of doing the off season.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_06]: It's great.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_06]: So as soon as you're at the playoff, amazing, go do it.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_06]: And I know that there's a big picture for LSU, recruiting, signing,
- 41:41[SPEAKER_06]: You know, all of those things, you know, transport or yeah, the adiada, but you have a responsibility.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_06]: I think a coaching responsibility.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_06]: And I think a moral responsibility to see that out.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_06]: You're being paid exceptional money to live in a beautiful part.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_06]: And we went to Oxford in the summer.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_06]: When and it's beautiful and the stadium is beautiful and the facilities are beautiful.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_06]: And yeah, it's what is it six weeks, two months max that you could, you know, stay there, Chris and do that.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_02]: I would at, you know, interestingly, I would take the other side of this a little bit.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, listen, I'm not crying for Lane Kiffin of all people, you know, because as I was telling you guys before, I mean, the what's going on is a bunch of pettiness.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_02]: and Lane Kiffin is a very petty person in my opinion, and so, you know, fight him with pettiness, you know, that's fine.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: But I do care about the people that get caught in the middle, you know, and the undeserving people that get caught in the middle.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: when the mom and dad are fighting, you know, kind of situation and and I think that there, you know, Ole misses is fighting pettiness with fighting with pettiness and and so and somewhere lost in this.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll, you can probably expound upon this later, but like, you know, we're talking about like a situation where they might not be in the playoff because of because they've decided not to let Lane Kiffin coach the rest of the, you know, almost through the playoffs because that is one of the right area.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's the third.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's the third.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a third of the criteria.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're top four criteria.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: The first one is they're ranking in the CFP, right?
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: Your second is head to head.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: Mmm, wink wink.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: And the third one is drastic changes to the roster, including coaching and coaching staff.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a big, so it's a big, it's a big factor and it might literally knock Ole Miss out of the playoffs, right?
- 43:49[SPEAKER_02]: And so, so think about, think about, and I think that, you know, taking the stand point and the stance that why would you allow Lane Giffin to continue to Captain the ship through the playoffs and just putting him in position to recruit, essentially.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_02]: I would say one, he's going to do that anyway.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's going to, that's going to happen anyway.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to happen anyway to that treats these kids like these kids like they are literal children, not adults who make financial decisions in their own interests and have full agency as adults to do so, which they do, you know, and so, you know, I just say, I just say put it all out there.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Ole Miss like if you're Ole Miss and you say,
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I realized that we're putting Lane Kiffin in position to continue to recruit our kids, but we can do the same thing too, and we can talk to those kids too, and also those kids aren't really kids, they're grown men.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_02]: with agency of their own to make financial decisions in their own interest and we're going to help them make what we think is the best decision for them, you know, and so let's just have it all out there because it's going to happen anyway.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's sort of like, all right, well, now you don't even make the playoffs because of this, right, or possibly, I don't know, we're not, that's not 100% certainty on any sort, but, you know, the idea that they can miss the playoffs because of it is is really damning of the, the petty fight and it's sort of like, you know, anybody that's gone through this, you know, the parents are not supposed to allow the kids to feel it.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know like when when they're fighting like that and and I think that I think that there's there's a little bit too much of collateral damage going on and As one of the sides you can be above that, you know Lane Tiffany and above it, I don't know not asking them not saying that he's going to be
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not sure that that's actually happened.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, last thing on this, and I think we can move on and then move on to the dolphins a little bit here at the end of the show.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's a a better job.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's what's getting lost here is why why go to LSU.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is not 10 years ago.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: It is more money though.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, not for him.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_02]: I mean for the paying the place.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it's the NL era.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's the portal era.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: you don't think he could get the quarterback of his choice if he goes out there.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: Is he really going to Louisiana to sit in living rooms to convince people to send them, send him your 17-year-old, because I'm going to make a great player and a great man.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that that's what he's going
- 47:00[SPEAKER_01]: You built up Ole Miss, take them as far as you can, and then jump ship to the NFL, which is what you want to do.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: And we all know Lane Kiffin eventually wants to do that again, right?
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: But, unless you, I don't know, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't think he's any, any closer.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_01]: Still the SEC, it's a loaded conference.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think they have more money.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think they have more money to pay the players.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think so too.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but they sent Brian Kelly, like my god, they had Brian Kelly there and then that was a disaster.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: They fired him.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't like Ed Ogeron.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: They got one of the national championship.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just a rough place to go coach.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think it's just a sucker.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, of course.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_06]: But I've seen the stats that their currently paying three head coaches.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_06]: So there's $5,000 on in 2021.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_06]: and the buyout was 17 million and they're still paying that off.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: They fired it and they got coached the greatest team in college football history.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, and they fired Brian Kelly and his buyout was 54 million, at which they were still currently paying off.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_06]: And now they're paying 91 million to Lane Kiffin.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my dream in life, somebody to pay me 54 million the goal away.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_02]: But that's how much money they got right like that's it that's how much and so it's like to me the the argument like state Ole Miss versus going LSU is like you know hey listen if you can go coach the Yankees with all with all the money that you know that that they have you go coach the Yankees and and I think you know so that's that's the part I do understand it
- 48:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I understand that in this business and I don't like it, but it is like these offers are exploding offers, you know, and so it's like the timing is bad.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's not that that's probably not Lane Kiffens fault, you know, the time and the timing of it, he's not it.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying he's a great person or that, you know, I like his general comportment during all this because I don't.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, I think that there's a really kind of ridiculously just bad all the way around situation with a lot of self interest to people that are causing collateral damage and nobody's stopping to think about that, you know, they're all, they're all just self interested.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_06]: I would just like to say that Ed Orgeron is getting his final buyout payment on December 9th, bullshit.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_06]: I'm not making this up.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_06]: But LSU sends Orgeron his final buyout payment of $426,000 on December the 15th.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_06]: There you go.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_06]: Nice to see you.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_06]: This year.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_02]: So it's sort of like the Barry Barnes thing, like how long with Barry Barnes getting paid?
- 49:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we lost Elf, lost you completely, buddy.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_02]: You've gone, I'm going to see.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_02]: And he's just, you know, you laughed, you laughed him into, he's gone catatonic.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_06]: He's just, he's the editor's around just sitting about, maybe maybe that would be good.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_06]: That's an interesting two-edged voice.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, you started to sound like I'd ever done it.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_05]: He frees us up.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_05]: He frees us up from the middle of the light.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not, I'm not.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not sure about that.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_03]: Good luck.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_03]: Go Tigers.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_06]: I love having used the side of it.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_02]: Oh man.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_02]: Go Tigers.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_06]: Go Tigers.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_06]: Go Tigers.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_02]: Oh man.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think he was.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think that's what we heard.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_02]: Go.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we had a talk about the game.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_02]: Did we talk about it?
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm back.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_01]: Always.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_01]: So this is, I don't know if you guys talked about these guys, but let's just quickly go through.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_06]: I will be back.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_06]: I can hate.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, you can't.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_02]: There you are.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's gone silent again.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_01]: Do you hear me now?
- 51:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're just like a little bit like a laggy sort of.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's finish up here with the good from this game and give the game balls accordingly.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: Defense tackles.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to, I'm going to start there and pretty much end there because it's too obvious to just say, yeah, pay a HN and he's great in all of this.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: The defense of tackles, man, the reason this defense is getting better week by week and I understand they're playing some of the drugs of society, okay, but they also did play the Buffalo Bill's very, very well.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_01]: it's that those defensive tackles are good.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_01]: They're playing well.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Phillips is already really good.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: Kenneth Grant is making himself, you know, he's making a presence of himself in these games every single week, getting better every week.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think this was his best game.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_01]: And Zeke Biggers.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: Look, he, along with Jordan Phillips made the play of the game, stopping the Tushpitch push to win the game.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, three Tushpitches got stopped as winning plays this week.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: None of them against the Eagles, which kind of tells you all you need to know.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then the last one, yeah, Zikberg was like, I said, he made the play on that one and also he had the sack and he's a force in the past rush, not because he does anything special.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that he's so strong that he affects the pocket every time he rushes the passer.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_01]: So my game balls are going to be placed in the locker rooms of those three defensive tackles, what's say you Simon?
- 52:56[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to just say a much maligned Terrell Dodson solely for the intelligent way that you handle the situation with the points that essentially won that often is the game, like what your main coverage getting really lined up.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_06]: And he watched you all 22 and he's running about literally shouting to people's ears and telling people with line up running from side to side.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_06]: So Terrell Dodson for that play.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_06]: Because that'll take a long time ago.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_02]: Chris.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think the on the on some sun heroes a little bit of this defensive, you know, as I talked about this before the defenses have been kind of going up all season right.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_02]: And the and I think that that that.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_02]: heavily criticized and for good reason.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_02]: Secondary is continuing to play better and defy odds, like defy all logic in some ways.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_02]: You know, whether it's if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know if you want to know
- 54:05[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but I mean, I don't man a guard.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_02]: It was that was bad.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, but, but still like to it was a huge play that he made.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I think that secondary is, you know, and make a Fitzpatrick in there at the slot in the nickel position is just, you know, they're playing out of their minds relative to how you would think they should be playing.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_02]: And so they're really some unsung heroes here for that defense.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you mentioned it, Simon, Terrell Dodson, you know, that Jordan Brooks is good, right?
- 54:43[SPEAKER_02]: So the fact that Terrell Dodson and Jordan Brooks are starting to play,
- 54:49[SPEAKER_02]: better and not just racking up tackles, but also, you know, communicating and guiding that defense and and you know, I think that that's such an important part of Anthony weaver's defense that you have to look there and the secondary for why they're getting better and better.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_02]: And it reminds me so much of the Brian Flores experience 2019, you know, because if you really look back at that 2019 defense, you start to see like those are all the same guys that continue to play in 2020 and 2021 that actually had good defenses, right?
- 55:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like there were genuinely good defenses at various points under Brian Flores in 2021.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_02]: And if you look at the 2019,
- 55:33[SPEAKER_02]: even when they were going through that awful month, one of the worst months of defense I've ever seen in the NFL.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_02]: And that first month of 2019.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_02]: That personnel was basically the same as what ended up playing much, much, much better in 2021.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_02]: So it kind of reminds me of that.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_02]: Like what's happening right now in the defense.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, I think you got to give some real some real kudos and shout out to it,
- 56:04[SPEAKER_02]: this, you know, it's like, it's up here and then it's foolish, you know, really didn't.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_02]: Within games sometimes, though, yeah, within the game, within the game itself, that defense just kind of goes like that.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_02]: And that, to me, means that you've probably got more coaching acumen on the defense besides the ball than the offensive.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's my opinion.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, I know that other people will disagree.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, and it's kind of obvious we've talked about it before, like I don't think Darrell Bevel is long for this job, even if Mike McDaniel stays.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think that that's maybe Frank Smith has kind of, you know, put in some goodwill since he, he dug up Darrell Wall or out of nowhere, and he seems like a player.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I love him on the sideline at least, I don't know.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_01]: Turled dots and yeah, they lost communication for a large part of that game and there was a play Mike McDaniel said so this morning in his availability where they went empty and dots and Turled dots and called a run blitz and On the film, they were like, how does he know that and you could see dots and calling out He's motioning.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's a run and he calls a run blitz Gain up to
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: What did they do?
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: They motion the back, back into the backfield, gave him the football, they stopped it on with the run blitz, Jordan Brooks tackle gain of two yards.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's good film work.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's, and we look, man, we've, we've given Tyrell Dodson.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_01]: We just have some shit on this podcast.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's heady stuff to lose the headset and you become the defensive coordinator for large swaths.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_01]: of this game.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_01]: All right, that's it.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: There is no more than next time we talk to you, we will talk about a research and jet steam.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_01]: A jet steam that's determined to destroy their draft position.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah, they've won.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
- 58:02[SPEAKER_01]: Three of five.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_01]: So they're on a hot streak as well.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_01]: So this is not going to be easy.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to be, I think, an interesting game for those of you that are rooting for wins.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_01]: This is not going to be easy.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_01]: Tyrod Taylor's
- 58:17[SPEAKER_00]: So, we'll talk about it on Thursday, but until then.
