- Scott Brandt: Once you go to the next level just because it's exciting going to that next level but for yourself Are you truly ready for that next level? Welcome back to together. We are stronger leadership straight. No chasers and It is very interesting how you'll talk to people about I want to go to the next level. I want to do this I want to do things bigger but part Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: of this is Being a student and we've talked about this. I think this was our fifth episode when we talked about being a student Big G: Exactly. Scott Brandt: and the realm of personal development. A lot of people will be like, yeah, I'm doing this and this and this, but are you relying on yourself? Are you relying on your own experiences and your perspective? Or are you taking the time to actually learn from people to cut down your learning curve and enhance through their experience? So it is a very interesting thing because sometimes I think people's egos get in the way and they're like, I already know this. I don't need to hear it again. And the crazy thing is, is when you talk to somebody, you're like, hey, XYZ, and then they're like, I already know this, they close off Big G: Yes Scott Brandt: right away. You close off, you miss out on opportunities to grow. And if you have that idea of I already know that, you're holding yourself back. So George when you think about that, how often have you talked to people or even maybe yourself? know early I would have this idea of I already know this and then I look back and I was like, damn it. Like I hurt myself by saying, you know this and I miss out on an opportunity or a nugget that I was looking for. Big G: you know what's crazy, Scott, it happens all the time. And, you know, the thing about personal development, number one is, no matter what your lifestyle was, and how you grew up, I mean, I can tell you right now, the childhood I grew up in wasn't good at all. It was pretty bad. And even at 62 years old, even though when that happened in my teens, you still have hurt. You still have why. Why me? Why was I left? Why was this? Or why was I beaten for this? Whatever it Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: is. there's times that people like George, especially when I got married and had children. And, you know, dad, why don't you ever go talk to someone? And it's like, it's not that I knew that I knew everything. I didn't want to bring it up. It Scott Brandt: Mmm. Big G: was massive hurt. And I think a lot of times people bury it so deep in their system that they're afraid to bring out what's going to what's by bringing up the past. What's that going to do to me personally? Scott Brandt: Mm. Big G: How I'm going to act? Am I going to be sad or going to be upset or me? You know all these different questions and I think a lot of times people don't have a resource to go to. Now if you don't want to go to to talk to someone at church or a counselor you know it's personal development. It's picking up a book. Because the one thing like I said, and we said many times before, everyone has a story. But it's the way you come out of that story. And because someone's story, I have talked about what my past was, what I've been through. And then you hear someone else's, you know, what they've gone through. And you take a look at your story and you're damn, how did you survive? Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: And you get to a point in life. that you need to unleash, you need to know that you can get better, you can feel alive. And it's funny, you sent me a video today about Gary Vee, and he hit it right on the head. You gotta start loving yourself because Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: when it comes down to... People say, good enough, this, this, and that. Anything negative that you have in your mind, someone else put that there. And Gary V hit it because we forgot to really care about ourselves. We care for others, right? You care for your wife, you care for children, care for your friends, but a lot of times we forget to love each other, love yourself. You gotta look in the mirror and I think you have to hail it turned. We just talked about this and man I'm telling you this is this this episode could be a three-part episode just to talk about this and Scott I mean personal development It's huge. And I thought I knew everything. was that guy, I don't need to talk. I don't need to read a book. I can handle it. All I was doing was burying the hatchet deeper and deeper and deeper and Scott Brandt: Mm-hmm. Big G: not facing what was true, what I needed to get better. Scott Brandt: Yeah, it's interesting. There's a quote I heard and I don't know who it's from, but it's highlighting that what got you to one level is not going to get you to the next level, especially if you're looking to go higher, go to a higher level. The mindset that you have that got you to this level is not going to work at that next high level because that next level is progression. And so what served you here is not gonna serve you here. And so that's a tough part though, because some people are okay with where they're at, which is okay. If you're fine with where you're at, then that's your call. But if you wanna go higher, if you wanna go that next level and do bigger things, you've gotta continue to work on yourself because The situation that you run into is you're centered to everything and so When you're centered to everything Whatever goes is coming with you and that mindset piece and so we've we've highlighted the the different things and Big G: Yeah. Scott Brandt: I've the the power of reading. so The interesting thing is this is actually just what is it five books right now? This is what I'm reading right now. I'm all these. So this one I shared with you. If you're a business owner, I highly suggest because this is gonna punch you in the face and he works with people to help with improving their bottom line. And so there's a lot of business owners that aren't profitable. They're swimming. And he said a lot of businesses don't survive. Because they're not profitable and we want to fool and fake it But he said there's a lot of business owners out there that are living paycheck to paycheck and it's because they've been taught differently and what happens is things are being taught to that go against human nature and so it actually Makes you fight it which is funny because I was watching a real last night and the guy was highlighting that What you want to do is the things that served you to protect you during those tough times You want to thank those but release them because if you fight Them whatever that is that protection mechanism that protected you and served you at that time But it's not serving you now if you keep pushing against it and fighting it it's going to fight back harder and it's going to Be there to hold position so it is one of those things that We've been a lot of us have been taught wrong and so we've got to adjust Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: The code we've got to adjust the code the mindset. There's one right here. This is your favorite FTC stuff. I know you like this one federal trade commission Business owners don't realize what's happening when they go and market and advertise my favorite there was somebody that's like I can teach you how to get unlimited leads I like Big G: that one. Scott Brandt: The planet earth only has eight billion people so Unlimited means never-ending but we have a finite amount of people eight billion people The best here doesn't add up and so when you're like I can teach you how to get unlimited How do you prove unlimited leads? There's eight billion people on planet earth. This does not help out This Big G: No. Scott Brandt: one here, limitless by Jim Quick This is what I saw you that I'm actually working on to increase my reading speed He actually highlighted I think he said JFK his reading speed per minute for words was 500 to 1200 words per minute Yeah, and so he's Big G: Whoa, that's crazy. Scott Brandt: like when you increase your reading speed you actually give yourself more time And then of course this one here Sean Cannele YouTube secrets going Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: deep on YouTube Because we don't Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: know everything so we gotta cut this down. This is crazy. Like we talked about it people don't understand youtube the backend That shit there's so much here that people don't understand And then this one has Big G: That's correct. Scott Brandt: like created my creativity to start kicking him drawing and whatnot but he talks about the fact that with people people are visual people and so data You want to visualize it? You want to show it because the thing is people really receive more they look in pictures they see in pictures and when it comes to reading it's not the words it's actually the pictures that are coming up and so personal development here this is one that you've got to find a way to improve yourself to cut down to enhance who you are as an individual and it's very interesting because Think it was Bruce Lee. He had stated that he doesn't fear the man that knows a thousand kicks and they've only done it one time he fears the individual that knows one kick but has done it a thousand times over and so Big G: Yeah. Scott Brandt: it is crazy how like Business owners really don't do anything to work on themselves. It's all about the business but you want to really make yourself better because you're driving everything in your business. And the business is going to fall in line with you as a leader. So if you are mediocre, then the business is going to be mediocre. And I know that sucks. You're like, I really don't want hear this. And this could be punching in stomach. This could be really hurting you. But it's a truth that you have to face. You have to understand that you say everything. So as business owner, you as the individual that's running everything, you're the thermostat. So if it gets over your baseline, it's gonna come back to wherever you're at. And I know that nobody wants to hear that. We all as business owners are like, we are the best thing on planet earth. We are the gift Big G: you Scott Brandt: to everybody else. No, sir, you're not the gift to everybody else, all right? We have to understand you are only one person, but you're going to drive and dictate everything else. So if you're not doing what you need to, good luck. Big G: I mean, you brought up some great books and you know what's crazy is you brought some things we talk about this all the time because you know, we work through stuff, you know, even myself, you know, I am like, I am a student of trying and working on I want to say trying working on repairing myself. Scott Brandt: Mm. Big G: in a sense of, you know, building because you have to take a look at this. some things down. Purse development is the foundation every next level breakthrough. You cannot grow if you're not taking care of yourself, right? And when you're reading a book and you still haven't done surface level cleanup, you're gonna still be there because Scott Brandt: Mmm. Big G: your old thoughts and your old ways of doing things is going into a new opportunity and that new opportunity now is gonna go back down. because you're not elevating your thoughts, you're not taking care of yourself. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what your friends say about you, doesn't matter what your co-workers say about you, does not freaking matter. What matters is that you take care of yourself internally because... To be honest, you got to look in the mirror, right? You got to make sure if you want to take a next level, if you're moving up, you get a new identity because you're growing. And it took me many, many years. And to this day, it's, you know, because when you bury all the crap, the hurt, the YB syndrome. You know, what did I do as a man, as a young teenager to be beaten the way I was? No matter what I did to please this person, I got beaten. and you carry that to you and that's embedded in you. And I really did think I really thought in my 20s I can overcome it because I'm 20 years old now I'm 30 years old now 40 years old I'm 50 years Scott Brandt: you Big G: old now I'm in my 60s and if you do not take control of your mind it will take over and your growth will be nothing because you'll be just reading and you'll Scott Brandt: You Big G: be excited but you're not going to grow in that area because your mindset is still at the base. And it is broad to me because my buddy Scott here Scott Brandt: one. Big G: on the other line has, we talked about this and we talk about it. You know, a lot of times people don't know, but people go through. They're embarrassed. They don't want to bring it up because, and this is a true fact, when you bring up, and this is what a tribe is all about, when you can talk about your past without any strings attached. That means they never use it in a conversation to use it against you. And you're working with people that are truly there. You need to get it off your chest. You need to talk about it because why you talk about it, it releases Scott Brandt: you Big G: it from you. Right. And you've got to start caring for you. You gotta love you. You love your family, you love your wife, you love your girlfriend, you love your husband. That's awesome. But it starts to love you. You need to love yourself. And it takes Scott Brandt: Hmm Big G: many years because as I take a look at things and the skill what you have to go through, you can read a hundred books. But if you cannot get rid of Scott Brandt: you Big G: the... torch. Let's Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: just say there's torches that you carry through life that makes you get up every day and fight. And there's torches that bring you down. What people say. Who gives a shit what people say about you. Guess what? When you grow Scott Brandt: Nice work. Big G: and you hit a next level, they're still down below. Not saying you're bigger than them is that they could not overcome You things you got to be around people that support you doesn't matter what you've done You know you didn't you didn't kill someone you didn't do this and you know it can be all different types of situations But if people do not sit there and pray for you for you to get better For the situation to get better to help you out You don't need those friends. You need to move on. You need to talk to people who will not use your past as a puppet. a spitter. Remember when you did this? And that's how people, Scott, I truly think Scott Brandt: you Big G: people have spoken about their past, have tried to mend their heart and mend their soul. And there's a lot of times you're around people who act like their friends and you know, they're on that fence and Scott Brandt: Mm. Big G: they all seem to fall on the other side, they're not your friends. People get burnt and emotionally you don't want to talk about it anymore. I know that happened to me. I can share that. The guys, I'm just telling you from entrepreneur to being a father. a friend, all that stuff, you need to work on yourself to mend what's inside you. That means if you need to talk to someone, say, hey, man, I've been through hell and I want to share. Could you do you have a few minutes? And that person listens and has and maybe has a small answer or say, hey, let's pray about this, whatever the situation is. It's about healing. And once you can heal, You keep moving. just remember I'm gonna tell you from experience You think you're healed It doesn't happen in one Scott Brandt: you Big G: day. It doesn't happen in the week. It can take years but you know what you're moving forward and that tribe that people that you truly believe in and they believe in you no matter what you've done. And they're there because they know you strip everything away from that person. They're a good hearted soul that wants to do good, not just for themselves, but for their families and their communities. Scott Brandt: So if you're finding value in this video if you're looking for these types of videos we have quite a bit Coming up to this episode hit that subscribe button If you the subscribe button hit the notification button that will allow you to notify Hey new episodes out that I think shorts also come up. We do a bunch of shorts, too but the question I would pose here to is because I like to know this stuff. If you are big in personal development and there's been a huge book that's really impacted you and really helped you along, share that because the more we can share and give to others, that's gonna benefit other people. Another thing is some people just don't know, so share it away. And then when you look at yourself as you're doing personal development, are you taking action? And so by reading, are you implementing what's being shared in that book? And one thing to understand is as you're reading, find one to two nuggets from the reading to implement first. It's not a massive race to try to implement everything. Find one to two things, implement it, come back, and then do the same thing. So we have too many people that try to do everything and then they stuff everything and it does just doesn't work so It's a very interesting thing though because people are like I'm on personal development I'm like a personal development jucky and you know, like and they got book on book on book But are they taking action? And that's the thing we've talked about is you've got to take action. So Not the quote of knowledge is power is a bunch of bullshit because there is no power if you're not implementing what you're learning. So it is knowledge with action is power, Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: but that's also understanding that sometimes you're gonna fail. We've talked about this. It's a variable. You have success, you have failure. But I think the other thing that comes up is a lot of people don't wanna take action because they're new. And because they're new, it's gonna come right away. So the thing is, people don't wanna do that because now they're like, I gotta get out of my comfort zone. And what if it Big G: Yeah. Scott Brandt: doesn't work? Like, what if I have to stumble and fall 10,000 times before it sticks? Well, you're new. That's how this works. It's like a baby that's born. A baby was born and it's skills that it has to learn. And so babies fall down. Plenty of times. I don't know how many times our babies different but the thing is is the Quicker you fell the quicker you fall forward the quicker you increase the learning capacity and what you're learning and gathering and so I think What happens is a lot of people like I don't want to do this because I'm new and I'm look goofy and all this Forgive that You need to experience the uncomfortability to create growth. And so it sucks. So you got to ask yourself, do you truly want that next level? Are you going to get uncomfortable with falling on your face and having to get back up and keep moving forward? Or you say, I want the next level. Let me read this book. Let me find this next course. I'm not going to take action though. I've got all the knowledge. It's here. But sitting here and you're not doing anything is not going to do you any good. And some people will be like, well, you know, just manifest it. Just manifest it. I'm like, that's awesome. Yes, have the thoughts and visualize yourself accomplishing it, but go do the action. so Big G: You've gotta do that. Scott Brandt: people don't want to. People, know a lot of people are going to be like, I don't want to do that. I don't want look stupid. I don't want to follow my face. OK, well, do you truly want that next level? Do you want bigger and better things? Because if you want that, you have to go through and take the action. Big G: You know, let's talk about that. Comfort zone is your biggest enemy. I'm telling you right now, if you think you got this, honestly, you don't. You're talking and I'm telling you from experience. You know, I read a book and I have it on my shelf and I don't want to leave, but. one of the books I recommend is F yourself. And I think the first chapter tells you if I can remember correctly, if this book is too strong, you don't like what it is or what it's saying, give to someone who can really use it. Scott Brandt: Hmm. Big G: A thing, you you brought up the books that we're reading. Another one for me, and I just told you to start reading the Bible. And it really kind of helps me understand, you know, what individuals them through. I have to, the first thing I have to do and I did is forgive my stepfather, forgive my mom. All right. And my brothers, they thought I went on vacation. You know, my youngest brother never even knew any of this was going on. But I forgave. Yeah. And if you're in a situation that you're abused or are fiscally abused by Scott Brandt: you Big G: getting beaten up for whatever shit, hot wheel tracks, the belt that had the 1000 holes in Scott Brandt: how well drugs does in a thousand people. Big G: it, they had not three when it hits you. Or to be an abusive, know, mentally abused, talking bad about yourself, you're a piece of crap, you're just like your father. Scott Brandt: you Big G: And this has come from another man, you you're a piece of crap. You haven't grown up just like him. that's those, what Jeffrey talks about, he talks about, it's not you that created these thoughts, it was by someone, an Scott Brandt: you Big G: authority in the sense, a parent, you know, that has said that stuff. And you get embedded in that. And you get, you, you... Scott Brandt: you Big G: you find yourself lost, you lose your identity in a sense. You know that you want to get better. How do you get yourself better because you don't trust anyone you can talk to because I don't know if anyone's going to understand me, Scott. I don't know what people are to think of me when I go to work. know, just pathetic person or whatever. Get that out of your head. When you when you take yourself and you forgive whoever put a debt in your life, that's the first thing that you're moving forward. Scott talks about, like tonight, taking action. Taking action is understanding what you went through and it wasn't your fault. You didn't make that choice. Number two is forgive the person or people who caused that issue. Remember when you look in the mirror, God given you God has made you perfect. But it's people that put crap in your head to make you belittle yourself. And you're always looking for approval. I was always looking for approval. through our friends, work, whatever, even in my, especially being a young business owner, I couldn't share this with anybody. What's my customers gonna think about? You will they do business with me? There's a place and time to Scott Brandt: this place. Big G: talk about it, but you have to forget the person. I understand that's a hard thing to do and that would be. That was the hardest thing for me to is forgive the person Scott Brandt: you Big G: who caused me grief, who caused me to question myself as a teenager, a young adult to an adult. And you got to do that. You got to start working on yourself more than anything else. can, it's about to talk, you can have 100 Scott Brandt: you Big G: books of all the greatest. personal development that the world given you. But if you don't put an action, you don't pick it up, start reading it, you don't take notes, you don't use the information Scott Brandt: you Big G: given you to take action in it, you're never gonna grow, you're never gonna change. You're gonna carry this Scott Brandt: you Big G: bag of shit on your shoulder Scott Brandt: Thank Big G: till you're buried. And at 62, it hit me recently. And this is why I'm telling you. Is that I carry this bag of shit with me on my shoulder for years. I've been married to my beautiful wife for 35 Scott Brandt: you Big G: years. And I carried it with me throughout my whole marriage. And I just, I finally threw it in the dumpster. I finally got rid of it. I finally forgave my parents, my step, my dad, my stepdad, my mom for the pain that they put me through and the pain that they put my two brothers through, know, the second and third oldest out of five boys. And I'm telling you guys, as leaders, Scott Brandt: You Big G: entrepreneurs if you have and you're carrying that bag of shit with you and I'm sorry for saying that that that the bag of everything Scott Brandt: you Big G: you've gone through release it if they're sown in your tribe go through it or you have sown your employees you know they're better than they think of themselves, Scott Brandt: Rather. Big G: you need to talk to them. This is why we started together with Fonger. You don't have to be on that island. because it's shitty. is when you can't Scott Brandt: you Big G: talk to somebody and you don't know who to trust. It will eat you up and it will take everything. Excuse me. I'll take every opportunity away from you. You'll miss opportunities. You'll miss the golden nuggets. You gotta do that for yourself if you don't know what else would. Scott Brandt: Yeah It's a very interesting thing getting into these levels and What George has shared there are those to that but Not but when you look at this if you're truly struggling You need to seek out the professional help and so this is where If you are at that point you you need to find the help And some people will try to lean into a coach, but you have to be mindful if they're not trained to and certified to handle the situation That's not the person you want to deal with and if you have a coach is like, I can take care of you No, like there is that line that you have to be very careful about and so if you need help You need to get the help you need to go find somebody that can help you work through this But the other thing is also is understanding give yourself grace as you're going through the healing process, as you're putting into action. Because if you're just starting, or if you're hard on yourself, you're gonna fall back, you're going to trip up, you're gonna have days that suck. And so give yourself grace and just understand it's a continual process. And it's one that it may be baby steps and it's okay. but give yourself grace. But at the end of the day, if you're at that level, you want to find the professionals that can help you out. But the other thing you want to understand too is you want to make sure that you feel comfortable with that relationship. Don't just hang up the first person. Find and interview, talk to people and Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: listen to yourself. Your gut is gonna tell you. interview find people that you really can lean into trust that's gonna be there because if That's not there. Nothing's gonna work out, but it's very hard. So it's it's one of those things that These aren't easy sometimes and so it's starting from the dirt working your way up but it goes back to taking action and Not just being stagnant and disdain if you're not taking action for anything That is gonna work out and so As you're looking I would go back have we talked about I don't know We've gotten so many topics that I'm like there's there's one that I remember if there's an action one I think there's I don't know go back watch Big G: Yeah. Scott Brandt: that one that but It is and I think it's in the student one now that I'm thinking out loud so but you've got to take the action and so that is one of those pieces because Action is going to let you create those results But the other thing you to be mindful though, too is your thoughts and beliefs are the starting factor there, too so if you're not working on that and you're looking and then you're like, I can't do it then the actions that you take are gonna be very little very minimal or it's gonna be counterintuitive and Then that's gonna create the results and then the results are gonna be horrible. You're gonna be like this sucks I don't want these and these these suck Which means then it's like, I can't do it. It sucks. Why do I want to do this? I don't want to take action. I don't want to do this. So it's a vicious cycle that is all encompassing that you have to work. But the starting point is the mindset piece is your thoughts is your beliefs. And like George highlighted, there might be things that aren't yours that you've borrowed that you've thought are yours that you've got to let go. but that comes into the tribe that you have, the people that you rely, the people that you have around yourself. If you gotta see how the professionals, the professionals that you're working with, it's a team effort, but you're centered to everything. And this is your journey that you have to walk on. But if you don't do it, nothing's gonna happen. Big G: I want to add this, this last part. And the reason I didn't go talk to anybody is because I don't want to interest anyone. Number two, this is number one. I was stubborn that I did not want to share the hurt with someone. I didn't want someone think or belittle who I was as an individual. And I want to say this last thing. If you want to go to the next level, you need to take what I said to the street level, forgive and move on. because you can unlock a new version of you. And no one will, I mean, I'm just telling you, when people see a change in Scott Brandt: See ya. Big G: you, people notice and people will say, wow, what are you doing? It's important what Scott said. Don't be stubborn like me. Talk to someone, interview people, feel comfortable with that person. and move on and hand them your torch of hell and the bag of shit and you move on to be the new version of you. Scott Brandt: So as we said if you're looking for these types of videos hit the subscribe button We appreciate everybody coming along allowing us to be part of your journey Coming and joining on our journey as we're going through the world of podcasting and sharing everything Other than that, we'll catch you on the next episode.
