- 0:42Speaker 2: Good Wednesday morning. Another week seems to be blowing past
- 0:47Speaker 2: more quickly than one would expect, and more heat coming
- 0:53Speaker 2: our way. As you've heard Amy on wake Up Call
- 0:56Speaker 2: talking about today, Nil Sevadra in the morning crew Handle
- 1:00Speaker 2: having some technical issues. They're you know, he's a robot.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Now he's been dead for I don't know twelve years,
- 1:07Speaker 2: and they keep try to upgrade it. But what can
- 1:11Speaker 2: you do. No one likes the upgrade. Go to Disneyland,
- 1:16Speaker 2: you go on Pirates, No one likes the upgrade, right,
- 1:19Speaker 2: you just deal with what you got. Come in your way.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Good morning, everybody. Let's start with Kono n Burn one
- 1:28Speaker 2: number one. Hey, thanks man, Hey, good morning. I care
- 1:31Speaker 2: about your brother. They don't, but I appreciate it. I do.
- 1:33Speaker 3: You're a good guy.
- 1:34Speaker 2: I do. You're the only one. Don't tell anybody else.
- 1:37Speaker 2: You're the only one I like on this show. Hey,
- 1:39Speaker 2: thank you, welcome pal. Let's see who else do we?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Oh god, I have the mic done. Sorry about will
- 1:45Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, Good morning. Not after that. Dumps of
- 1:51Speaker 2: concrete and debris on the roads this morning. Debris out there?
- 1:55Speaker 2: Where was that? Why was it?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Maybe they took the U turn too quickly.
- 2:01Speaker 4: It was the transition from the west ten to the
- 2:03Speaker 4: south one ten right there near the crypt, right there
- 2:07Speaker 4: near the convention center.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you have a.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Whole big rig just tipped over and dumped its load
- 2:12Speaker 5: of concrete onto the road. Nice yeah, and not easy
- 2:17Speaker 5: to clear off. You can't just use the brooms for that.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah. A couple guys get out. That reminds whenever I
- 2:25Speaker 2: hear brooms. Stupid joke, but it sticks with me forever.
- 2:28Speaker 2: So there's this guy and he's uh working behind the parade,
- 2:35Speaker 2: and what he does is he scoops up the elephant
- 2:37Speaker 2: poop and the elephants, everybody, the animals go by and
- 2:44Speaker 2: he scoops up the poop and some was man, this
- 2:48Speaker 2: seems like the worst job in the world. What why
- 2:52Speaker 2: don't you quit? And he goes and leave show business.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Never AnyWho, All right, we've got some new use this morning,
- 3:01Speaker 2: and let's get to it. Handle on the news lead story.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Trump administration says it's deferring one billion in medicaid payments
- 3:10Speaker 2: to California and Minnesota. So this was said yesterday. This,
- 3:16Speaker 2: of course, is that ball back and forth that goes
- 3:21Speaker 2: back and forth with Trump and the suspected fraud and
- 3:24Speaker 2: non compliance. Listen, and nobody's going to say that medicaid
- 3:29Speaker 2: and certain things like that is waterproof. It has leaks
- 3:34Speaker 2: and issues and all kinds of things as well. But
- 3:38Speaker 2: using these types of things to lean on, we the
- 3:42Speaker 2: people not always appreciated, oh Amy, the.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Cost of war, it's a lot. Defense Secretary Pete haig
- 3:52Speaker 5: Seth says the cost of the Iran war so far
- 3:56Speaker 5: is thirty seven point five billion dollars old lawmakers on
- 4:01Speaker 5: Capitol Hill yesterday that the Trump administration is going to
- 4:05Speaker 5: need nearly twice that much to continue military operations for
- 4:08Speaker 5: the coming months. This new estimate was revealed at a
- 4:12Speaker 5: Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, and is the thirty seven point
- 4:17Speaker 5: five is up from the roughly thirty billion dollars that
- 4:20Speaker 5: was presented to lawmakers earlier this month. The Defense Department
- 4:24Speaker 5: is now asking Congress for sixty seven million dollar billion,
- 4:27Speaker 5: not million billion, in supplemental funding all right.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Three month long delay. People have been waiting for the
- 4:35Speaker 2: Department Homeland Security to publish detention numbers to kind of
- 4:41Speaker 2: show what's going on with immigration enforcement. Well, on the twentieth,
- 4:45Speaker 2: just a couple of days ago, they published the detention
- 4:48Speaker 2: numbers finally shows immigration enforcement grew again in the interior
- 4:53Speaker 2: of the country here, and the figures show ICE arrests
- 4:58Speaker 2: at a record level. In this particular case, the new
- 5:01Speaker 2: numbers show the average daily number of people booked into
- 5:05Speaker 2: detention from ICE arrests reached over thirteen hundred individuals in June.
- 5:11Speaker 2: That's a thirty two percent increase in April. It's also
- 5:15Speaker 2: the highest of any month going back to twenty twenty one.
- 5:20Speaker 5: I was watching something the other day and I saw
- 5:23Speaker 5: Tom Holman on and he was talking about the ICE arrests,
- 5:28Speaker 5: how they're not necessarily in the forefront anymore, like we're
- 5:33Speaker 5: not hearing about them here in LA all the time.
- 5:37Speaker 5: But he said, oh, they're continuing. He goes and he's
- 5:40Speaker 5: basically backing up what this report says is that we're
- 5:43Speaker 5: doing this, you're just not hearing about it. We're continuing efforts.
- 5:47Speaker 2: It seems like tactics were changed to be a little
- 5:50Speaker 2: more behind the scenes and rather upfront. I mean, originally
- 5:54Speaker 2: I think that was the plan.
- 5:57Speaker 5: Well, okay, boy, I just laughing because now you know,
- 6:02Speaker 5: Bill left the room and called Lindsay. Now Lindsay's helping out,
- 6:05Speaker 5: but she's wearing a tank top, and I thought Bill
- 6:07Speaker 5: had changed into a white tank top. I was like,
- 6:09Speaker 5: that's so weird.
- 6:11Speaker 2: It's not Share. He has different. Yeah, outfits that comes on.
- 6:15Speaker 5: It's not Bill though, it was Lindsay.
- 6:17Speaker 2: If you remember, I think Trump's kind of wanted Trump
- 6:21Speaker 2: one of the shock and awe at the beginning, and
- 6:23Speaker 2: the tanks and the military and all that stuff, so
- 6:26Speaker 2: that people would self deport yep. And you heard you
- 6:29Speaker 2: remember the spots we would hear about the self deportation
- 6:33Speaker 2: and all that stuff earlier on. And now it's like, hey,
- 6:36Speaker 2: I'm not going to stop. We're just going to kind
- 6:38Speaker 2: of go into the shadows a little more and unless
- 6:40Speaker 2: there's a horrible shooting or something like that, yeah, okay.
- 6:46Speaker 3: We got this.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior says
- 6:52Speaker 5: the multi state cyclosporias's outbreak in the US is under control.
- 6:57Speaker 5: He said, we have extensive forensics at the demiological forensics,
- 7:02Speaker 5: and we've identified the source of the outbreak, he says,
- 7:05Speaker 5: we the government and the companies involved have implemented a recall.
- 7:10Speaker 5: We know that Taylor Farms has recalled some of its
- 7:14Speaker 5: lettuce that was sourced from central Mexico, and the CDC
- 7:20Speaker 5: and the FDA say the outbreak is linked to iceberg
- 7:26Speaker 5: lettuce at some Taco Bell locations. Sixteen hundred people in
- 7:30Speaker 5: five states have become sick.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Well, wait was it? What was the thing that Taylor
- 7:35Speaker 2: Farms and the false positive? Don't you remember there was.
- 7:40Speaker 5: The Yeah, so there was the FDA sampled some shredded
- 7:45Speaker 5: iceberg lettuce that was supplied by Taylor Farms, which was.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Not part of the recall.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Gotcha.
- 7:50Speaker 5: They say that tested positive and then they did some
- 7:54Speaker 5: subsequent testing and says no, that was a false positive.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Still they've got Let's see, Tailor Farms has voluntarily recalled
- 8:02Speaker 5: dozens of lettuce products across twenty seven states and says
- 8:06Speaker 5: it's not going to get let us from Mexico anymore.
- 8:09Speaker 5: And California is not one of those twenty seven states. Gotcha,
- 8:13Speaker 5: I just bought some Tailor Farms salid this week.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Gambling man or I guess.
- 8:19Speaker 5: So I guess I'm testing the orders.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Well, let us know how things go, green Apple. Two steps.
- 8:27Speaker 2: All right, you have in New Jersey about six hundred
- 8:30Speaker 2: and six or six thousand, six hundred people who indicated
- 8:34Speaker 2: they were non citizens while obtaining New Jersey's driver's licenses
- 8:39Speaker 2: and other state ideas. It turns out they were improperly registrated,
- 8:44Speaker 2: registered rather to vote in the twenty twenty three in
- 8:47Speaker 2: twenty twenty four, or were registered to vote in twenty
- 8:51Speaker 2: twenty three and twenty twenty four. So they're scrambling to
- 8:53Speaker 2: figure out what's going on. They're promising immediate action. Said
- 8:58Speaker 2: that they've ordered all erroneous added voter registrations from that
- 9:04Speaker 2: period be moved, and of course the governor is upset.
- 9:09Speaker 2: She said that they're also replacing the vendor who ran
- 9:14Speaker 2: that system.
- 9:14Speaker 4: This was, from what I understand, this was a glitch
- 9:18Speaker 4: with the Department of Motor Vehicles that registers voters immediately,
- 9:24Speaker 4: which is what California does. You know, everybody is registered automatically,
- 9:29Speaker 4: and this is what happened. In six thousand people were
- 9:32Speaker 4: registered that should not have been registered. Some of them said, hey,
- 9:35Speaker 4: I can't vote. Some of them didn't. They don't know
- 9:38Speaker 4: how many actually have voted. They think a very small number.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Of course, this helps the President to promote his Save
- 9:45Speaker 4: America Act where he wants voter I D proof of
- 9:49Speaker 4: citizenship upon registration, and we.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Would think such a crazy, crazy thought. I I have
- 9:57Speaker 2: no problem with i DS at all. That you have
- 10:02Speaker 2: to Now the argument is, how do you prove your citizenship?
- 10:05Speaker 3: Do you? Very few people or relative people.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Who are of limited means don't have access to passports.
- 10:12Speaker 3: They don't take passports. It's a couple hundred dollars.
- 10:15Speaker 2: You used to not get an ID here's you used
- 10:19Speaker 2: to not get a driver's license. You used to not
- 10:22Speaker 2: be able to get any ID here unless you were
- 10:24Speaker 2: a citizen. We've changed.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Oh, that's true. That's true.
- 10:28Speaker 4: You couldn't get a driver's license. That's true. But they
- 10:29Speaker 4: changed that completely. And the argument that people of limited
- 10:34Speaker 4: or no means showing that showing a birth certificate, for example,
- 10:39Speaker 4: how many people don't know how to get a birth
- 10:41Speaker 4: certificate that is recorded?
- 10:43Speaker 3: How many people you pull it away if.
- 10:46Speaker 2: You can, your birth certificate that documents, Yeah, those aren't okay.
- 10:51Speaker 3: That's an argument that that is an argument. I mean
- 10:53Speaker 3: that's that's not one of those where I think the
- 10:55Speaker 3: administration is crazy at all.
- 10:57Speaker 4: I think, you know, both sides have an argument, and
- 11:01Speaker 4: I like the idea of IDs personally, although the other
- 11:04Speaker 4: side of it is there doesn't seem to be widespread
- 11:08Speaker 4: proof widespread fraud. So it's one of those you know,
- 11:12Speaker 4: where do you go with that?
- 11:13Speaker 3: Okay?
- 11:14Speaker 5: Moving on, Guess what lawmakers have to deal with again?
- 11:18Speaker 5: Ah a looming government shutdown, but the US House of
- 11:23Speaker 5: Representatives has approved a stopgap measure to head off a
- 11:27Speaker 5: government shutdown until early December, right after the midterms. The
- 11:31Speaker 5: Continuing Resolution authorizes government spending until December fourth. It passed
- 11:36Speaker 5: by two twenty to two h five vote, which is
- 11:40Speaker 5: roughly along party lines, and now it heads to the
- 11:42Speaker 5: Senate and it would need bipartisan support to clear the Senate.
- 11:48Speaker 5: The government's current spending authority expires September thirtieth.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Weren't we just here, Yes, we were, So we kick
- 11:55Speaker 4: it forward to kick the can forward, not very far
- 11:57Speaker 4: and not very long forward.
- 12:00Speaker 3: So we're going to be at it again.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Although I don't know, well, Save America Act, he's pushing
- 12:05Speaker 4: really hard. One of the things that the president can
- 12:07Speaker 4: do is he's not signing Jack until his Save America
- 12:10Speaker 4: Act is going to go forward. And so remember he
- 12:14Speaker 4: has to sign all the bills that are passed by Congress.
- 12:16Speaker 5: Except that housing bill he didn't sign and it became law.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Well, because yeah, if it sits on his desk for
- 12:24Speaker 4: ten days and doesn't do anything, that's true, that's one
- 12:27Speaker 4: of the ways it becomes law.
- 12:28Speaker 3: And that is a political end around where the.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Governor, in other words, the president has to not veto
- 12:35Speaker 4: it for it to become law.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Right, But that one too would have been veto proof
- 12:41Speaker 5: the housing one. It'd be interesting to see if this
- 12:44Speaker 5: one passed he didn't sign it and it wasn't veto proof.
- 12:49Speaker 3: No, it will.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't imagine that it would be veto proof
- 12:54Speaker 4: if he vetos it based on his Yeah, I don't
- 12:57Speaker 4: think they're going to get two thirds.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I really don't. All Right.
- 13:01Speaker 2: The United States now reporting the most measle cases in
- 13:05Speaker 2: any year since nineteen ninety one. So not only you
- 13:09Speaker 2: remember last year those numbers were going super high and
- 13:13Speaker 2: they were at a record total. Well now we've surpassed
- 13:16Speaker 2: that old record total, also reaching the highest levels in
- 13:21Speaker 2: thirty five years, more than five months still remaining obviously
- 13:25Speaker 2: in the year, and we're already at those very very
- 13:29Speaker 2: high levels.
- 13:31Speaker 4: You know, I wonder how many diseases that have been
- 13:35Speaker 4: eradicated that are going to explode have to be are
- 13:40Speaker 4: necessary before people realize, you know, it's time to vaccinate
- 13:44Speaker 4: our kids.
- 13:44Speaker 2: But here's the weird thing though, that's my thought too,
- 13:49Speaker 2: But the national total is going to be going up.
- 13:53Speaker 2: We've got five more months, right, so as they continue
- 13:56Speaker 2: to report, these numbers are going to go up. But
- 13:58Speaker 2: the record is still far from that. Nineteen ninety one
- 14:03Speaker 2: US reported more than ninety six hundred cases and that's
- 14:07Speaker 2: way before widespread vaccination and historic so we haven't even
- 14:13Speaker 2: hit the same numbers of nineteen ninety one before all
- 14:17Speaker 2: that craziness.
- 14:18Speaker 3: That's a very good point.
- 14:19Speaker 4: And I don't know, I got I wish I had
- 14:21Speaker 4: some epidemiological experience or knowledge here, which what a shocker.
- 14:26Speaker 4: I don't When was the measles vaccination? When was it
- 14:30Speaker 4: the vaccine become number one invented or become prevalent?
- 14:35Speaker 3: Do we know that answer? Amy?
- 14:37Speaker 4: Can you look that one up? When did the measles
- 14:41Speaker 4: vaccine come into being?
- 14:43Speaker 2: I must have been vaccinated, Yeah, I.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Think so too.
- 14:46Speaker 4: I think it was before nineteen ninety one. So it's
- 14:49Speaker 4: either aberrational or proof positive that vaccines do cause autism
- 14:55Speaker 4: and they don't help.
- 14:57Speaker 5: Nineteen sixty three was the first fact scene, okay, and
- 15:01Speaker 5: they improved it in nineteen sixty eight.
- 15:04Speaker 4: And yeah, all right. So to Neil's point that was
- 15:10Speaker 4: was it aberrational? What were the years before or after that?
- 15:13Speaker 3: Was it a unique year?
- 15:15Speaker 2: Oh, that's got to be unique here those.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it has to be aborrational.
- 15:19Speaker 4: So anyway you know another reason to I guess, vaccinate
- 15:25Speaker 4: or not vaccinate?
- 15:27Speaker 3: That is the question.
- 15:29Speaker 2: That's like a brine.
- 15:30Speaker 5: That's how yes, you powerless to prosecute New York City
- 15:35Speaker 5: mayors or on mom Donnie admitted in a new video
- 15:38Speaker 5: that he does not have a legal authority to arrest
- 15:41Speaker 5: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin nettan Yahoo. He had posted a
- 15:47Speaker 5: video earlier saying that if net and Yahoo went to
- 15:50Speaker 5: New York City for UN meetings this fall, that he
- 15:53Speaker 5: would arrest him because he's a war criminal and deserves
- 15:56Speaker 5: to be in the Hague. But he posted yesterday that
- 16:00Speaker 5: it is clear we do not have the independent legal
- 16:03Speaker 5: authority to enforce this warrant. He went on to say,
- 16:07Speaker 5: the federal government, however, does and I call on them
- 16:10Speaker 5: to join the International Criminal Court and execute this warrant.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Now, idiocy of course on his part, because a city
- 16:19Speaker 4: cannot arrest someone on an international warrant. That's for starters,
- 16:23Speaker 4: and the International Criminal Court. The United States is not
- 16:26Speaker 4: a signatory to the treaty. It's not even a signatory.
- 16:31Speaker 4: So there's mom Donnie making a political statement.
- 16:34Speaker 2: We don't recognize it at all.
- 16:36Speaker 4: No, we don't recognize the International Criminal Court. So how
- 16:38Speaker 4: can he doesn't, you know, because he's an ass. But
- 16:41Speaker 4: Trump does all.
- 16:41Speaker 2: These you know, bombastic things where he says, I'm going
- 16:45Speaker 2: to do this, but it's top news. This guy does it,
- 16:48Speaker 2: and it's like, dude, you're a mayor.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Yeah, well there's that because the president is the president
- 16:54Speaker 4: and the mayor is the mayor. And New York see,
- 16:58Speaker 4: he has a reputation on my dannie of being anti Israel,
- 17:02Speaker 4: pro Palestinian, so we know exactly where he sits with
- 17:06Speaker 4: President Trump is day to day. You know, what happens
- 17:09Speaker 4: this morning changes around what happens this afternoon.
- 17:12Speaker 3: So I think that has a lot to do with
- 17:14Speaker 3: it too.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Yeah, this is an interesting story because you know, as
- 17:19Speaker 2: the Ukrainian and Russian war continues way longer than any
- 17:24Speaker 2: of us thought, you don't hear a lot of ugliness
- 17:29Speaker 2: coming out of Ukraine as far as political stuff. But
- 17:33Speaker 2: here's a little bit of fallout. You have the Ukrainian
- 17:36Speaker 2: president firing his commander in chief on Tuesday, and then
- 17:41Speaker 2: you know, of course, bowing to pressure they say, after
- 17:43Speaker 2: the removal of the popular defense minister. And now this
- 17:48Speaker 2: is sparking like this, the fiercest leadership crisis in his
- 17:52Speaker 2: presidency during all of this, and something very rare, getting
- 17:58Speaker 2: people in the streets protesting.
- 18:02Speaker 3: So he caves.
- 18:03Speaker 4: He caved, And a lot of you have to do
- 18:04Speaker 4: with the the younger. I think a commander now who
- 18:09Speaker 4: is very big on technological advancement, where the previous one
- 18:13Speaker 4: very traditional artillery and infantry, well those days are gone
- 18:19Speaker 4: for the most part. It's now warfare with missiles and
- 18:22Speaker 4: drones and robotics, very very different today.
- 18:27Speaker 2: And hacking.
- 18:28Speaker 5: Yeah, speaking of hacking.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Oh got, very well done. Oh Got. She has just
- 18:40Speaker 3: become one of my favorite people.
- 18:42Speaker 2: She is not allowed to hang out with you anymore.
- 18:45Speaker 4: That is Disneyland, I speaking Okay, how about this speaking
- 18:50Speaker 4: of hacking, as Amy said, why don't you go on
- 18:53Speaker 4: with the story.
- 18:54Speaker 2: No, I'm removing myself from this. I'm gonna go get
- 18:57Speaker 2: coffee or please please.
- 19:00Speaker 5: So they're holding hearings now to determine whether the singer
- 19:06Speaker 5: David is the real name is David Burke should go
- 19:09Speaker 5: to trial for murdering a fourteen year old girl from
- 19:13Speaker 5: Lake Elsinor and yesterday in court, grizzly photos were shown
- 19:18Speaker 5: of her during that preliminary hearing. They he's charged with
- 19:25Speaker 5: killing her after she threatened to go public about their relationship.
- 19:28Speaker 5: And apparently, prosecutors say he cut her up with a
- 19:33Speaker 5: chainsaw and stuffed her body inside the trunk of his car.
- 19:37Speaker 2: And she was in a body age, right I think
- 19:40Speaker 2: she was when.
- 19:42Speaker 5: She was killed. Yeah, she was eleven when they met.
- 19:45Speaker 5: And they're saying the prosecution is saying that he began
- 19:49Speaker 5: abusing her having sex with her in twenty twenty three
- 19:53Speaker 5: and then killed her last year because she was threatening
- 19:56Speaker 5: to go public and she was just fourteen years old.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Now what is I think? I mean, think about this
- 20:00Speaker 3: for a moment. What a moron he is? He kills her?
- 20:05Speaker 4: I'm ostensibly at his house and then body bag cuts
- 20:09Speaker 4: her up and puts her in his tesla two blocks
- 20:12Speaker 4: up the street.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Where do you go with that?
- 20:17Speaker 3: You know, what does he think They're not going to
- 20:19Speaker 3: find her?
- 20:22Speaker 4: It's always a body bag full of pieces of people.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I don't think he's a smart, decent man.
- 20:28Speaker 3: To be No, now, he's obviously, you know, pretty sick. Anyway,
- 20:31Speaker 3: this could be the death penalty. He could easily be charged.
- 20:34Speaker 3: This is a capital crime.
- 20:36Speaker 2: CBS, the pharmacy known for mile long receipts, is now
- 20:41Speaker 2: going to be known for the healthcare of little animals too.
- 20:46Speaker 2: So they announced their at CBS Health just yesterday that
- 20:50Speaker 2: CBS Pharmacy is now going to dispense select prescriptions and
- 20:55Speaker 2: medications for dogs and cats. So that's things like antibiotics,
- 20:59Speaker 2: allergy medicaids, fleeing tick treatments, insulin pain relievers at all.
- 21:04Speaker 5: They want a piece of that pie. It's thirteen to
- 21:07Speaker 5: fourteen billion dollar a year industry.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Costco has it.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I just filled the costs.
- 21:12Speaker 4: I just feel yes, exactly. I just filled the prescription
- 21:15Speaker 4: for one of my dogs and I go to Costco.
- 21:17Speaker 4: I mean, they've had it forever so well.
- 21:20Speaker 5: CVS is getting in on the game.
- 21:22Speaker 3: I guess they are.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm kind of surprised that you can't do it
- 21:25Speaker 4: at CVS, although I buy my medication at Costco.
- 21:27Speaker 3: What a shocker.
- 21:29Speaker 5: Disney downsizing the Walt Disney Company laying off several hundred employees.
- 21:35Speaker 5: Pixar is cutting ten percent of its staff, mostly in
- 21:39Speaker 5: production and operations. National Geographic is also cutting dozens of
- 21:45Speaker 5: people got layoff notices, although some of those will have
- 21:48Speaker 5: the opportunity to move into new jobs. But that's going
- 21:51Speaker 5: to affect National Geographics TV as well as editorial and digital.
- 21:56Speaker 5: The Burbank Media and Entertainment Giant started to give out
- 22:00Speaker 5: these notices just yesterday morning, and in addition to Pixar
- 22:05Speaker 5: and National Geographic, some corporate functions are affected by the
- 22:08Speaker 5: layoffs and ESPN is affected too. It cuts several well
- 22:12Speaker 5: known on air analysts and reporters.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Yep, it's yoho yoho an unemployment line for me. Oh,
- 22:21Speaker 3: very Disney.
- 22:23Speaker 5: See what one trip to Disneyland will do to him?
- 22:25Speaker 2: I know he's already singing, I love it this I heard.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I've been following this story on my own because I
- 22:32Speaker 2: love this place so much. The Cinerama Dome, I think
- 22:34Speaker 2: is one of the most exquisite experiences in watching a
- 22:39Speaker 2: film in Los Angeles, and the Arc light did a
- 22:42Speaker 2: beautiful job. Well, it sounds like Sony and Alamo draft
- 22:47Speaker 2: House might be taking it over. And for those in
- 22:50Speaker 2: the know that watch these things, last night it was
- 22:53Speaker 2: lit up. They don't normally light up the dome at
- 22:57Speaker 2: night these days. It has been shut down. The Cineramadome
- 23:01Speaker 2: came into being back in the sixties. It was owned
- 23:05Speaker 2: by a family and now it looks like the Cinerama
- 23:10Speaker 2: Dome and dome and it's got fourteen different screens there
- 23:13Speaker 2: at that Hollywood multip.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the adjacent one now the Cinerama Dome itself.
- 23:17Speaker 4: A little history about that. Cinerama was basically three cameras
- 23:24Speaker 4: and the screens were huge, crowd right, and then you
- 23:29Speaker 4: had the scene between the pictures that was were always
- 23:33Speaker 4: a little off. The first movie, if I'm not mistaken,
- 23:36Speaker 4: that was in Cinerama was How the West was One
- 23:40Speaker 4: and they came out in the sixties. As you said,
- 23:42Speaker 4: I remember seeing that.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Now.
- 23:44Speaker 4: A couple of years ago they had a special event
- 23:47Speaker 4: at the Cinerama Dome there or a few years ago
- 23:50Speaker 4: there is a print in Cinerama of how the West
- 23:55Speaker 4: was won, and maybe the only print left and the
- 23:57Speaker 4: only three the only Cinerama projection system in existence anymore
- 24:03Speaker 4: is at the Cinerama Dome and it works.
- 24:06Speaker 3: They left it intact.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Didn't Disney have one.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Dis Yeah, they had.
- 24:13Speaker 4: They had the Circle of America thing that they also
- 24:16Speaker 4: used in Cinerama and they it was almost like a
- 24:20Speaker 4: flight across America kind of thing.
- 24:22Speaker 3: But that was at and t oh. It was just phenomenal.
- 24:26Speaker 2: It was because such a.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Today it's of course, you know, technology is much much different.
- 24:35Speaker 5: More than a mistake. The director of the California DMV
- 24:41Speaker 5: has told lawmakers that there's a potential criminal investigation underway. Remember,
- 24:47Speaker 5: they found irregularities in about eleven thousand of the driver
- 24:51Speaker 5: license tests, and because of that, they sent out letters
- 24:54Speaker 5: and said, hey, we found some irregularities in your test,
- 24:57Speaker 5: so you got to go get retested or your license
- 25:00Speaker 5: this is not going to be valid after thirty days,
- 25:02Speaker 5: which as people scrambling to get to the DMB to
- 25:04Speaker 5: retest and and all that. There was speculation online that
- 25:07Speaker 5: the dmb's flagging of certain tests was connected to the
- 25:10Speaker 5: use of new AI tools or another technical error, but
- 25:13Speaker 5: they really haven't said yet what it is.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Yeah, where would the criminality be if there are eleven
- 25:19Speaker 4: thousand written licensed tests or that could be compromised and
- 25:25Speaker 4: people were saying you got to retake the tests within
- 25:27Speaker 4: thirty days. I don't understand where the criminal the connection is.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Who's getting paid for what?
- 25:34Speaker 2: Well, if somebody was passing people that were.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Now were purposely or just doing it purposely just to
- 25:39Speaker 4: screw around with people, I don't know.
- 25:42Speaker 2: All right, this was a great story. I love thrifting.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I love going around to cool brick a brac shops.
- 25:47Speaker 2: And you've got this warm up jacket that was worn
- 25:50Speaker 2: by Wilt Chamberlain during the nineteen seventy two NBA Finals,
- 25:54Speaker 2: bought by a teenager for three dollars and seven cents
- 25:58Speaker 2: at an organ thrift shop up and was sold for
- 26:03Speaker 2: over eighty nine thousand dollars at auction on Monday. He
- 26:07Speaker 2: said he was kind of looking over and there was
- 26:09Speaker 2: like this big bin with piled clothes on it, and
- 26:12Speaker 2: someone was kind of tossing things in the air and
- 26:14Speaker 2: then tossing them back looking for something. And he saw
- 26:17Speaker 2: it and he ran right over it and grabbed it
- 26:20Speaker 2: knowing what it was and good for him.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Yeah, this was not a mistake on his part.
- 26:27Speaker 4: The kid's pretty sophisticated and understood immediately there was some value. Now,
- 26:32Speaker 4: Sotheby's had estimated the value between one hundred and fifty
- 26:35Speaker 4: and two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, so it went
- 26:38Speaker 4: way way below the estimated value, which occasionally happens use
- 26:42Speaker 4: we don't usually report on items that go below the
- 26:46Speaker 4: value that the auction houses.
- 26:49Speaker 2: I was surprised as well that it went so below.
- 26:53Speaker 5: Well, but if you still look at the profit margin,
- 26:55Speaker 5: that's still substantial.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:57Speaker 4: From three Yeah, from three dollars to eighty nine thousand,
- 27:00Speaker 4: that is a good return.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 27:03Speaker 3: I must tell you, I think we have one more
- 27:05Speaker 3: story and then we will bail.
- 27:07Speaker 5: I can just say I'm glad that I took my trip.
- 27:09Speaker 5: In June, the State Department has issued a rare warning
- 27:12Speaker 5: to all Americans traveling or living abroad, saying that they
- 27:16Speaker 5: could be targeted because of the heightened tensions over the
- 27:19Speaker 5: war with Iran. The warning was issued over the weekend.
- 27:23Speaker 5: It says Americans overseas need to increase or exercise increased
- 27:27Speaker 5: caution and follow local security guidance. The agency warned that
- 27:32Speaker 5: travel could be disrupted because of air space closures and
- 27:36Speaker 5: flight cancelations.
- 27:38Speaker 3: So you've got a budget trips coming up right, Handle, Yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 3: and one of them is through the Middle East. A
- 27:44Speaker 3: lot of them is through the Mideast.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Your birthday's coming up. I got to remember to get
- 27:48Speaker 2: you that Star of David necklace.
- 27:50Speaker 4: As a matter of fact, that's what I want to
- 27:51Speaker 4: wear as I go to Dubai, as I get off
- 27:54Speaker 4: the airplane, I want that knee on, bright blinking Star
- 27:58Speaker 4: of David wearing around my my chest, wearing around my neck.
- 28:02Speaker 5: What could possibly go wrong?
- 28:03Speaker 4: What could possibly go wrong? All right, guys, we are done.
- 28:08Speaker 4: A story that we talked about this morning. Health and
- 28:11Speaker 4: Human Services is withholding eight hundred and sixty seven million
- 28:15Speaker 4: dollars in medicaid payments to which state?
- 28:20Speaker 3: Oh guess where.
- 28:22Speaker 4: Would HHS attack in terms of not funding programs? Of course, California.
- 28:29Speaker 4: That's coming up KFI AM six point forty.
- 28:32Speaker 3: You've been listening to the Bill Handle Show. Catch my
- 28:34Speaker 3: show Monday through Friday six am to
