- 0:00Speaker 1: Now joining me on the line right now is CAP
- 0:03Speaker 1: twenty two security company owner Sandra Mattiazzo. Sandra, good morning
- 0:10Speaker 1: to you.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Good morning Katie now, Sandra, you and.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I I know you. You're you or you used to
- 0:17Speaker 1: live in Mount Eyes of many many years ago from
- 0:20Speaker 1: a very well known indigenous family that I'm also friends with,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and we've met throughout our work, I suppose, or throughout
- 0:27Speaker 1: my work through run with Dad. You guys help out
- 0:29Speaker 1: and provide the security each year. So I was pretty
- 0:33Speaker 1: sort of surprised and upset, I guess yesterday to hear
- 0:36Speaker 1: that there was a situation for you guys that which
- 0:40Speaker 1: is a pretty dangerous one by the sounds of.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Thanks, Yes, there was, and it was by chance. It
- 0:47Speaker 2: was probably a good thing that we were there. This
- 0:51Speaker 2: was at the main tobaccano of thing. You're to the
- 0:55Speaker 2: tobacco shop. Then we actually have an ATM and I
- 0:58Speaker 2: had a guard in the who's just playing with the keypad,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and I don't think the offender even knew that he
- 1:03Speaker 2: was in there because it's in the corner. And this
- 1:06Speaker 2: is when a young male came in requested about two
- 1:09Speaker 2: hundred and fifty dollars worth of stock and as a
- 1:11Speaker 2: lady was putting it together, he grabbed it and run
- 1:13Speaker 2: out the door. Attempted to run out the door. The
- 1:17Speaker 2: female employee yelled out to the guard to you know,
- 1:20Speaker 2: like grab him, he's robbing me, which the guard did,
- 1:23Speaker 2: like he grabbed hold of him before he got out
- 1:25Speaker 2: the door, wrestle with him a bed. He was head buttered,
- 1:29Speaker 2: he was spat on, and it was just handy that
- 1:32Speaker 2: another employee happened to be coming over to the shop.
- 1:35Speaker 2: So the female employees locked the door. My guard and
- 1:39Speaker 2: the other employee, they wrestled with him a bed. They
- 1:42Speaker 2: got himTo ground. When they got into ground, he did
- 1:44Speaker 2: state that he had a knife and when you know,
- 1:49Speaker 2: like when he was able to he was going to
- 1:50Speaker 2: stab them. While this was going on, the female employee,
- 1:54Speaker 2: she's locked the door, she's called the police. The police
- 1:57Speaker 2: said to let him go, and the guard did say, look,
- 2:02Speaker 2: we've got him secured, we can hold him here, and
- 2:03Speaker 2: they said, no, just let him go, which I understand
- 2:06Speaker 2: is protocol, and they did. And I did confirm later
- 2:09Speaker 2: that this is in light of the murder stabbing, you
- 2:12Speaker 2: know last week of the alleged him. Yes, yeah, but
- 2:19Speaker 2: my issue with this is they've let him go. Apparently
- 2:22Speaker 2: he's now this happened at about lunchtimes and broad daylight.
- 2:26Speaker 2: When they let him go, he's run off and that's
- 2:29Speaker 2: when they realized later that there was actually a second
- 2:31Speaker 2: man outside. They just thought he was part of the crowd,
- 2:34Speaker 2: but they saw him actually hand him something. They don't
- 2:37Speaker 2: know what they what he handed. But my big issue
- 2:40Speaker 2: with this what I was said about, is an armed
- 2:42Speaker 2: offender was let out into the community.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And that is a worry that. There is no doubt
- 2:49Speaker 1: that that's a worry.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yes, because you know, and I understand, you know, like
- 2:55Speaker 2: where the police are coming from or sorry for the police,
- 2:58Speaker 2: because they're running around with their hands tied with their feet,
- 3:01Speaker 2: you know. They it doesn't matter how many of them
- 3:03Speaker 2: there are, they can't get anything done because of all
- 3:06Speaker 2: the political rules and all the protocol and all the
- 3:09Speaker 2: rest of them. Now this is it's just totally out
- 3:14Speaker 2: of control. I've been in go On for a very
- 3:16Speaker 2: long time and you know, like I'm from out that
- 3:20Speaker 2: Queensland and actually Kim will which is a subject of Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 2: my grandmother who is Calcaden Royalty and this lady she
- 3:33Speaker 2: even she died, you know, twenty years ago, but even
- 3:37Speaker 2: then she was horrified by the way that things were going.
- 3:40Speaker 2: She just said, like, you know, the dignity, she said,
- 3:42Speaker 2: my black fellows, they're losing their dignity. This is how
- 3:45Speaker 2: she used to talk and directly from her. And it's
- 3:51Speaker 2: just breaking my heart the way that things are going.
- 3:53Speaker 2: There's just yeah, that respect for elders is not there.
- 3:59Speaker 2: The if I want something, I'm going to take it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: If I want to be violent, I will do it.
- 4:04Speaker 2: There's and it all comes back to the elder, you know, and.
- 4:11Speaker 1: It's really hard at the moment. Sandra, Hey, like you
- 4:15Speaker 1: want your kids to be able to go and do things,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you want your grandkids in your case, to be able
- 4:20Speaker 1: to go out and do things, and you want to
- 4:21Speaker 1: feel like you've got that safety.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, well I won't even let them catch the bus.
- 4:26Speaker 2: It doesn't matter how much it puts everyone out, Like
- 4:29Speaker 2: it's just not safe, you know, even catching a bus
- 4:32Speaker 2: home from school, they still have to go to a
- 4:34Speaker 2: bus exchange. And you know, the whole thing is like
- 4:38Speaker 2: there's and even there's just nothing out there. Like I
- 4:43Speaker 2: know that we have services, but I don't believe that
- 4:45Speaker 2: these are the right services or that they're working. I
- 4:49Speaker 2: don't know what's happened to the laws about public nuisance,
- 4:51Speaker 2: public drunkenness, loitering with intent, what happened to the two
- 4:54Speaker 2: kilometer rules. That's probably gone because there's like five thousand
- 4:58Speaker 2: bottle or outlets everywhere, and I don't know why are
- 5:02Speaker 2: their bottles and Pokey's in the middle of suburbs, Like
- 5:05Speaker 2: it brings crime, you know, But for me, everything is
- 5:10Speaker 2: about money, Like that's all we're looking at. It's all
- 5:13Speaker 2: about money.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Yeah, well we've got it. There's got to be some
- 5:17Speaker 1: serious change. There really really has to be some serious
- 5:20Speaker 1: change because the way that we're getting on at the
- 5:22Speaker 1: moment is not all right. It's not okay for people
- 5:25Speaker 1: to be armed and going in and thinking that they
- 5:29Speaker 1: can take, you know, whatever they want and threatening that
- 5:32Speaker 1: they've got a knife, whether they do or whether they don't.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Like the incident at b WS overnight, you know, some
- 5:37Speaker 1: of those incidents, they did have an edged weapon or
- 5:40Speaker 1: a knife in one instance, I believe allegedly even an
- 5:44Speaker 1: axe in others. You know, the knife wasn't seen, but
- 5:47Speaker 1: how do you know? And how scary is it? Then?
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yes, well we didn't actually, you know, my guard didn't
- 5:53Speaker 2: actually see a weapon. Yeah, the man only stated that
- 5:56Speaker 2: he had a weapon. However, he did hand something outside
- 6:00Speaker 2: and you don't know. And for this thief, low life,
- 6:05Speaker 2: he's now got a ticket to rob. All he's got
- 6:07Speaker 2: to say is I've got a weapon and I'm out
- 6:10Speaker 2: of here. I'll just go and move on to the
- 6:11Speaker 2: next one. He went up the road and stabbed someone
- 6:14Speaker 2: then what you know? It's yeah, it's just totally out
- 6:20Speaker 2: of control. Like they have no fear of prosecution, There
- 6:23Speaker 2: is no reaction to any action. They know that they
- 6:27Speaker 2: can do what they want. If you go around at night,
- 6:30Speaker 2: if you drive around late at night, there's kids on
- 6:33Speaker 2: the street at all alans. Like back in the day,
- 6:36Speaker 2: police would pick up kids take them home if the
- 6:38Speaker 2: parents weren't there, the parents were in trouble. Now there's
- 6:41Speaker 2: none of that. And I'll guarantee you most of the
- 6:44Speaker 2: time the parents aren't there or there's stuff going on
- 6:46Speaker 2: at home. You know, the piss don't want to be around,
- 6:48Speaker 2: that's why they're on the street. But there is nowhere else,
- 6:52Speaker 2: Like I see a lot of services. Like I sat
- 6:55Speaker 2: in on a meeting a couple of weeks ago at
- 6:57Speaker 2: another spot that we look after and they were talking
- 7:00Speaker 2: about replacing all the what they call them, like the
- 7:03Speaker 2: little like pads, you know, kids to play with. And
- 7:06Speaker 2: I said, why are you replacing them? And they said, oh,
- 7:09Speaker 2: you know they've dimaged them. Well here's another example. If
- 7:12Speaker 2: you damage it, you will earn another one. Not going
- 7:16Speaker 2: to be given another one, because who pays for that?
- 7:18Speaker 2: You know, free money? You know they oh, we're going
- 7:22Speaker 2: to do this. We're going to give you this for
- 7:24Speaker 2: free and that for free. There's how many fabering upshelders
- 7:27Speaker 2: are there? I think there's only one which is being
- 7:30Speaker 2: moved out to burrama. You want a nightclift? And I
- 7:34Speaker 2: was talking to the people that are running and that,
- 7:36Speaker 2: and they said, it's just full all the time. But
- 7:38Speaker 2: it's got hardly any bed, you know that. Why is
- 7:41Speaker 2: there not a self sustaining farm or something like the
- 7:44Speaker 2: kids that are offending where they can go out in
- 7:47Speaker 2: a safe area and we talk things, not just you know,
- 7:50Speaker 2: because a lot of times they throw all the kids
- 7:52Speaker 2: in the jail. That should only be for the serious
- 7:55Speaker 2: violent ones that the hardcore offenders. There should be somewhere
- 7:59Speaker 2: else for these kids to learn things.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Yep.
- 8:02Speaker 2: And everyone's just afraid you know, like they know that
- 8:05Speaker 2: things aren't good, that they can't be looked after, but
- 8:07Speaker 2: they leave them in that situation when they put them
- 8:10Speaker 2: into And we've looked after some of these places as
- 8:13Speaker 2: well through children and families. Yeah, when the kids are violent,
- 8:16Speaker 2: but they've got the wrong people in these places they're
- 8:19Speaker 2: worrying about degrees have are people with a bit of
- 8:22Speaker 2: life skills and a bit of care, you know, and
- 8:24Speaker 2: people there have said to me, we do this because
- 8:26Speaker 2: the money is good. You're dealing with people for these kids, well, and.
- 8:31Speaker 1: You've got to make sure you've got the you know,
- 8:33Speaker 1: you've got to make sure you got the right people.
- 8:35Speaker 1: But we've got to make sure we've got the right
- 8:36Speaker 1: programs and stuff in place as well. Sandra, I'm really
- 8:40Speaker 1: sorry we are going to have to leave it there.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I really appreciate you having a chat with me today
- 8:45Speaker 1: and and yeah, I appreciate it, and please keep in contact,
- 8:50Speaker 1: let us know how things are going. No, I will
- 8:54Speaker 1: thank you Sandra much very much appreciated. Good on you.
