Latest / Sidekick's What Just Shipped / HubSpot Breeze clarifying questions: one card before a wrong answer | Shipped May 2026
Transcript
- 0:00Dana (AI host): Ask an AI for your stalled deals, and it will happily decide what stalled means for you.
- 0:05Rob (AI host): Since May, HubSpot's Breeze Assistant can stop and ask you one question first.
- 0:10Dana (AI host): Stay for the part nobody notices: where your answer ends up after the chat moves on.
- 0:16Narrator (AI voice): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped, presented by Sidekick Strategies.
- 0:20Narrator (AI voice): Your hosts, Rob and Dana, are AI.
- 0:22Narrator (AI voice): The voices are synthetic, the research is real, and humans check every claim before it reaches you.
- 0:31Rob (AI host): Before anything else, Dana and I are AI hosts, which makes an episode about AI asking better questions a little personal.
- 0:39Dana (AI host): I'm Dana, and today I'm playing a RevOps lead who has cleaned up after a confident AI more than once.
- 0:45Rob (AI host): Our research starts with two bad habits Breeze had before this update.
- 0:49Rob (AI host): It would guess at your intent and produce confident but wrong output.
- 0:53Dana (AI host): Or?
- 0:54Rob (AI host): Or it would dump a paragraph of questions on you before doing anything useful.
- 0:59Rob (AI host): Our write-up says HubSpot's own usability research rated both patterns poorly.
- 1:04Dana (AI host): So what changed?
- 1:06Rob (AI host): HubSpot's May product updates post describes it this way.
- 1:09Rob (AI host): When Breeze needs a key piece of context, it shows a single interactive question card in the chat, with set options or a free-text field.
- 1:18Dana (AI host): One card. Not a questionnaire.
- 1:20Rob (AI host): That's the point. The post says you get accurate output without a wall of questions upfront.
- 1:26Rob (AI host): Live for all hubs and tiers.
- 1:28Dana (AI host): What makes Breeze decide to ask?
- 1:30Rob (AI host): Our write-up names two triggers. An ambiguous term, or not knowing which output format you want.
- 1:36Dana (AI host): Give me an ambiguous term.
- 1:38Rob (AI host): Our research uses stalled, hot lead, and closed.
- 1:41Rob (AI host): They don't mean the same thing in every portal.
- 1:44Dana (AI host): In some portals, closed means three different things depending on who you ask.
- 1:48Rob (AI host): Fair. Here's how answering works, per HubSpot's Breeze Assistant help page.
- 1:53Rob (AI host): Select one or more of the options, or type your own response.
- 1:57Rob (AI host): Then click the send prompt icon.
- 1:59Dana (AI host): So I'm not stuck with their options.
- 2:01Rob (AI host): No.
- 2:02Rob (AI host): Our write-up says every card has a free-text field at the bottom, so you're never locked into the choices.
- 2:08Dana (AI host): And if Breeze has more than one question?
- 2:10Rob (AI host): Same help page.
- 2:12Rob (AI host): Click Previous and Next to move between question cards, and Skip to skip one.
- 2:17Dana (AI host): Our write-up mentions a progress counter, too?
- 2:19Rob (AI host): It does. One of two, that kind of thing. And it lists keyboard shortcuts.
- 2:24Rob (AI host): Number keys pick options, Enter submits, Escape dismisses the card.
- 2:29Dana (AI host): Okay. And the part from the hook?
- 2:31Rob (AI host): Our write-up says every question and answer is saved in the chat thread as a read-only record.
- 2:38Rob (AI host): Anyone reviewing the conversation later can see what context Breeze used.
- 2:42Dana (AI host): That's an audit trail.
- 2:43Rob (AI host): That's how our research frames it.
- 2:45Rob (AI host): If a report or workflow was built with Breeze's help, you can retrace why.
- 2:50Dana (AI host): Where does this help most, by our research?
- 2:52Rob (AI host): Three places. Reports and segments, where words like active or at risk are fuzzy.
- 2:58Rob (AI host): Workflows, where the card can pin down which lifecycle stage or deal stage you mean.
- 3:04Dana (AI host): And the third?
- 3:04Rob (AI host): Content.
- 3:05Rob (AI host): You give tone, format, and audience in one structured answer, instead of rewriting your prompt three times.
- 3:12Dana (AI host): Picture someone on their fourth rewrite. That's who this is for.
- 3:17George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Hey, it's George B. Thomas from Sidekick Strategies.
- 3:20George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Full honesty, this is my AI voice clone, made with my permission.
- 3:23George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Breeze asks better questions when your team knows what to ask it back.
- 3:27George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): In our one-day AI for HubSpot Teams workshop, we build role-by-role Breeze playbooks for sales, marketing, and service, on your live portal.
- 3:35George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): And we map what's free, what's gated, and what to ask your Super Admin to turn on.
- 3:40George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): The workshop page is on the Sidekick Strategies site.
- 3:45Dana (AI host): Skeptic time. Does it ask me the same question every single chat?
- 3:49Rob (AI host): We couldn't find anything that says.
- 3:51Rob (AI host): HubSpot doesn't document when a card appears, or whether it remembers your last answer.
- 3:56Dana (AI host): So nothing stops it asking twice.
- 3:58Rob (AI host): Not that we found.
- 3:59Rob (AI host): But the help page says Breeze can store memories, like your job title, tone, writing style, and recurring instructions.
- 4:07Dana (AI host): How do I add one?
- 4:09Rob (AI host): Just tell it. The page's example is asking it to remember that you prefer bullet points.
- 4:14Rob (AI host): To review them, open the Breeze dropdown menu, hover over More, then select Memories.
- 4:20Dana (AI host): And it can look back at older chats?
- 4:22Rob (AI host): Conversation history is on by default, the page says, so Breeze may reference previous chats when it's relevant.
- 4:29Dana (AI host): Here's my real worry.
- 4:30Dana (AI host): It asks one question, I answer, and it still pulls the wrong data.
- 4:34Rob (AI host): Then check what it used.
- 4:36Rob (AI host): Click the expand right sidebar icon, and the panel shows the context Breeze used, plus any files, artifacts, or connectors.
- 4:45Dana (AI host): And the numbers in brackets?
- 4:46Rob (AI host): Citations.
- 4:47Rob (AI host): Hover one to see the source, or click Sources under the answer to review everything it referenced.
- 4:53Dana (AI host): And if the data it needs just isn't there?
- 4:55Rob (AI host): The page says Breeze may not have access because of account settings or your permissions.
- 5:01Rob (AI host): Ask a Super Admin to review account context and user permissions.
- 5:06Dana (AI host): Anything I can do without a Super Admin?
- 5:09Rob (AI host): Two things from the same page.
- 5:10Rob (AI host): Reply with more specific details, like using the at key to reference a CRM record.
- 5:17Rob (AI host): Or ask Breeze to explain its reasoning.
- 5:20Dana (AI host): Who feels this most?
- 5:21Rob (AI host): Our research points at smaller teams without a dedicated admin, where the card works like a guardrail.
- 5:27Rob (AI host): And portals with custom objects and their own lifecycle definitions.
- 5:32Dana (AI host): Our freshness check?
- 5:33Rob (AI host): As of October 30, HubSpot's help page still documents the question cards, with Previous, Next, and Skip.
- 5:41Rob (AI host): One difference. Our write-up says click Submit. The help page says click the send prompt icon.
- 5:47Dana (AI host): Small, but that's the button people will hunt for.
- 5:50Dana (AI host): Okay, my plan as the RevOps lead.
- 5:52Dana (AI host): First, list three words your team defines its own way. Stalled, active, at risk.
- 5:58Dana (AI host): Then ask Breeze for a report using one, and see if a card shows up.
- 6:03Rob (AI host): And when it answers, open Sources before you trust it.
- 6:06Rob (AI host): Clarifying questions, in short. One card, a saved answer, and a reason to define your terms.
- 6:13Dana (AI host): Every source we used is linked in the episode notes.
- 6:16Rob (AI host): Sidekick's What Just Shipped will be back with the next one.
- 6:19Dana (AI host): Answer the card, then check the sources.
- 6:22Narrator (AI voice): Sidekick's What Just Shipped is presented by Sidekick Strategies, with AI hosts Rob and Dana and AI-generated music.
- 6:30Narrator (AI voice): We're independent, and not affiliated with HubSpot. Find our research at Sidekick Strategies dot com.
