Latest / Kenny Wallace Media / Joey Logano Wins Atlanta!
Transcript
- 0:00The first NASCAR playoff race is in the books and it's the 22
- 0:03team of Joey Logano winning at Atlanta and moving on into the
- 0:07round of 12. Logano is a big race driver and
- 0:11he says playoff time is his time.
- 0:14You know, more times than not, excluding last year really,
- 0:17we've been able to level up when we need to level up and to be
- 0:21able to to fire off, you know, your first race to playoffs and
- 0:25with a statement win. It's key, right?
- 0:28I mean, we all talked about how wild card this round could be
- 0:32and we knew that dependency cars would be strong on on the
- 0:35superspeedway style type race tracks.
- 0:37We've been all year long and unfortunately we've been getting
- 0:40caught up in every possible wreck on this type of track.
- 0:42So it's nice to finally capitalize on the laps LED and
- 0:46being towards the front and having a a teammate lined up
- 0:50behind me there and and he scored a ton of points today
- 0:52too, being up there. So a good day for for team
- 0:55Penske all the way through. Yes, Cedric did too.
- 0:57So a really special day for Penske to to be able to score
- 1:01some good points and set themselves up all pretty good
- 1:04for around the 12th. How different is that situation
- 1:08for you as the leader if it's not a teammate behind you?
- 1:10Is it? Is it completely different
- 1:12thought process? I probably still choose the
- 1:15bottom lane. There's definitely things could
- 1:22have looked differently. I I think we still would have
- 1:26been in pretty good shape. I have to go back and really
- 1:28rewatch it to, to know for sure. But the, the push he gave me
- 1:32down the front stretch, taking the white was, was a key move to
- 1:36be able to do that. And yes, I think that was a big
- 1:39help. That's why the biggest help of
- 1:41the whole thing. But you know, Blaney has been a
- 1:44fantastic teammate. We've worked together for for
- 1:46years now and it's nice when we, you know, for so many years
- 1:49we've talked about a lot of scenarios.
- 1:52We've been through a lot of different scenarios at the end
- 1:55of these races. And you know, some of them have
- 1:58done really well like today. And sometimes we've messed up
- 2:01and I'm both of us, right. So the good thing is that we
- 2:04were able to talk about it all the time, you know, and, and,
- 2:08and be able to get better. And then that's just really what
- 2:11what you want a teammate out there.
- 2:13So, you know, it goes back and forth and and sometimes you're
- 2:17the one to Victory Lane and sometimes you're not.
- 2:19Luckily today we were in the right spot.
- 2:21And then even with him behind you, when you have teammates
- 2:24lined up to your outside and know that they're going to stick
- 2:26together no matter what, is there anything that you can do
- 2:29to counter that aside from just trying to make sure that you're
- 2:33staying connected to Ryan as much as possible?
- 2:34Like how do you how do you approach that mentally?
- 2:36Yeah. I mean, there's a lot of prep
- 2:38and, and a lot that goes into making sure that you get the
- 2:41push at the right time. And, and you know, the, the part
- 2:45that concerned me a little bit as they attached a little better
- 2:47than us on the outside lane and we were able to stay attached
- 2:52good down the backstretch, which was able to push me clear just
- 2:55barely really only because the one, I think the one got loose
- 2:58there. So if it wasn't for that, it, we
- 3:00would have been side by side. I don't know if it would have
- 3:02looked the same. So they did a good job executing
- 3:05that and I and I knew that you know that the one difference
- 3:08there is you had their car that was in the playoffs in the
- 3:12front. So you knew Ross was just not
- 3:13going to make the move. So there's definitely all a
- 3:16little bit more. I don't know what you want to
- 3:20call it commitment there, I guess because you have one card
- 3:23at that really matters if they win them for both of me and
- 3:26Ryan, the win was huge for both of us.
- 3:29So if that changes the game a little bit, but yeah, I mean,
- 3:33they did a good job up there too.
- 3:33Let's. Go next to Jordan Bianchi.
- 3:39Jordan Bianchi, The Athletic on the radio, it said let's do the
- 3:42plan we talked about on the bus. So what is that plan you guys
- 3:44talked about on the bus? I can't tell you all and I Yeah,
- 3:48See, I'm not going to tell you nothing against you.
- 3:51I just wouldn't tell anybody. I guess that we go over a lot of
- 3:54stuff together. We prep a lot together,
- 3:58separately and together sometimes.
- 3:59And they say this Speedway race in these days is it's just so
- 4:05interesting and and every tracks a little bit different.
- 4:07Daytona to Talladega to Atlanta, all are kind of a breed of their
- 4:10own. And when you have fast cars like
- 4:14we do right now on the speedways, it's important for us
- 4:17to capitalize as a team. These are our bread and butter
- 4:22right now. So we've proven that really over
- 4:25the last year plus that that this is our type of race track.
- 4:29So you know what, to be able to make sure that a Penske car wins
- 4:34is very important for our organization right now.
- 4:37Coming in that restart, you know you got Blaney behind you.
- 4:39You guys are so good at this kind of racing.
- 4:41Do you feel like this is your race to win or lose and like the
- 4:43all the advantages now on your side?
- 4:46I did, you know, I really felt like when we were in the lead
- 4:50coming to take the white and the caution came out when we were up
- 4:54top there and I had him side by side behind me.
- 4:56At that point I said, man, I really think I got it, Got it
- 4:59one at that point I thought everything was going to go
- 5:02pretty good the next lap. I just had to keep them too wide
- 5:04for another lap. So I felt pretty good about
- 5:06that. And when the caution came out, I
- 5:07was kind of like it restarts, just things change.
- 5:12Fuel wasn't really much in there, so is is fairly empty.
- 5:18So it all ended up working out. But yeah, you start getting
- 5:22restart after, you know, another green white checker and all of a
- 5:25sudden you're out of gas and you have a day that looks like you
- 5:28can win or score a ton of points to running out of gas.
- 5:31Could be, you know, that that quick.
- 5:33So taking the white was key for us just to, you know, this is a
- 5:36base hit type of race, right? Like, yeah, there's a point
- 5:40there is like, you know, you take a fifth out of today and
- 5:42you feel pretty good about it. I feel much better about taking
- 5:45a win. But that's just kind of what
- 5:47this this race tracks about. Mark Carroll, Pierre and Joey,
- 5:50can you talk about the range of emotions?
- 5:52You're not. You're knocked out a year ago in
- 5:56round one, and this year you come back and you guarantee in
- 6:00the first race of round one, you're going to round two.
- 6:03What? What is that like emotionally?
- 6:06Yeah. I mean, I I move on pretty
- 6:08quick. You know, to be honest with you.
- 6:11When we got knocked out of the playoffs last year, it hurt a
- 6:14lot. And it stings the rest of the
- 6:17playoffs. Every time you show up to the
- 6:18racetrack and you're not in it, it hurts.
- 6:22It's really frustrating. And you know, you just get mad.
- 6:25You just live mad for a little bit.
- 6:28But that's just what the playoffs are, right?
- 6:30I mean, this, that's what drives you and motivates you to to be
- 6:33better. And because you don't want the
- 6:35pain and you also want the thrill of the victory at the
- 6:38end. But this is a good start for
- 6:40sure there. We go Jacob Steelman race face
- 6:48digital Joey 2 for you first, Kyle Petty on the NBC post race
- 6:52show called you a big game big moment driver and Paul when he
- 6:56was in here a few minutes ago said a lot of that comes back to
- 6:59your mental game. What what is it?
- 7:02If you can pinpoint something specifically in you and your
- 7:05driving style just lets you continue to step up in these
- 7:09big, big moment, big pressure situations.
- 7:14I don't know, I don't, I don't know exactly what it is.
- 7:17I think some people are kind of born a certain way and like a
- 7:20very competitive people and there's times that that bites me
- 7:24as much as it helps me. But yeah, I feel like there's
- 7:29just for whatever reason, always another gear in there and I try
- 7:35to reach it every race, but it just seems like the playoffs the
- 7:40seem to to work for for us as a team.
- 7:42I mean, I wouldn't say it's just me, right?
- 7:44I mean, our whole team really is a good job at thriving in these
- 7:47scenarios. And you know, I talked a little
- 7:49bit earlier today about, you know, their their work ethic,
- 7:54their experience level of this race team.
- 7:56When we go into the playoffs, it it doesn't really affect us
- 8:00much, right? And sometimes pressure can
- 8:05either make you crack and fall apart or it's going to make you
- 8:08better, right? And for us, it seems like with
- 8:12the experience that we have and the been there, done that, we
- 8:15just kind of know how to to handle it.
- 8:17So there's a long ways to go in this playoffs.
- 8:20It's it's, you know, I don't want to get stuck on saying,
- 8:22man, we won the first one and what's going to be a cake from
- 8:25cake from here? It's not going to be easy from
- 8:26here. This is just the ability to to
- 8:29breathe for two weeks. So we, you know, try to get some
- 8:32playoff points. And I know you mentioned it on
- 8:34the TV broadcast. So I wanted to ask you, I know
- 8:37you had the kids crew here today and how big that was.
- 8:41What have you done around this weekend as far as with your
- 8:44foundation and and what was that experience like finally being
- 8:48able to have them celebrate with you in Victory Lane?
- 8:50Yeah, it's a very special week for a lot of reasons.
- 8:56I got to go to the Shaw Air Force Base and what was it
- 9:01Friday afternoon and drove down there with my, my wife and
- 9:06friends of ours there that I got to meet or are getting deployed
- 9:09and they have a ball. So I got to go down there and
- 9:12talk to him and have a lot of relationships there.
- 9:16And, and so it was really cool to, to do that.
- 9:19That was kind of the, the 1st special thing that happened.
- 9:21And I got here, I think it was midnight by the time I landed
- 9:24here on, on Friday night. And, and they told me to go win.
- 9:28So I'm glad I at least held up that into the bargain.
- 9:32And then the jail kids career, the kids that have really been
- 9:34through a lot in their lives, they're huge race fans,
- 9:38particularly 22 fans. And, and these kids have been
- 9:42through more than than you can ever imagine.
- 9:45And a lot of it, that whole program started from a little
- 9:47guy named Jake Leatherman and he passed away.
- 9:51Unfortunately, we met his family and went to his funeral and, and
- 9:55all that there's amazing. I, I wish you guys, maybe
- 9:58someone, some of you guys here actually were there at that
- 10:00funeral that day, but there's a ton of race team guys that
- 10:03showed up in the race suits and because he's a little kid, but
- 10:06he's a huge race fan. We all showed up there and I
- 10:08thought what a what a shame. And I left there kind of mad
- 10:12because we didn't meet him when he was with us.
- 10:15And that's where the jail kids crew started years ago.
- 10:18And we've been giving these amazing experiences to these
- 10:21kids. And unfortunately I never made
- 10:23it happen on on the racetrack when they're here.
- 10:25So to see them celebrating together in Victory Lane, that
- 10:30was really neat. So they told me I'd better win.
- 10:32It's quite the threat, so I'm glad that that worked out.
- 10:38Yeah, this Steve Hummer from the Atlanta General Constitution,
- 10:42two-part question. First of all, when you when you
- 10:44come onto this property every time, given your long history,
- 10:47is there one fond memory that that always strikes you first?
- 10:51There's a lot, there's a lot of memories here, more memories at
- 10:54this racetrack than anywhere I've ever been.
- 10:56But now, as you remember, probably the first time pulling
- 10:59in here is in 99 and we're moving from Connecticut and
- 11:02trying to figure out where we wanted to live.
- 11:04And we drove by the land of motor speed when we always pull
- 11:07in. And I remember we drove in and,
- 11:11and all of us were we're in a motorhome just traveling across
- 11:13the country figuring this whole thing out.
- 11:15And we, we drove through the tunnel like, Oh my God, this
- 11:20place is incredible. We've never been to a track like
- 11:21this before. At the time I was racing quarter
- 11:24midgets and we met Ken Reagan, David Reagan's dad here at
- 11:29Legends of Georgia. And I said, why don't you race a
- 11:32Bandolero tonight? That was just like, OK, sure,
- 11:35we'll race tonight. And that's just the way we did
- 11:38it. And we ran the race and we ended
- 11:41up buying the car, said we'll be back.
- 11:43And we moved down here. I don't know.
- 11:44Six months later, the car was still sitting in the shed and I
- 11:48started racing here. And those memories with with my
- 11:52parents and my sister and there's a lot of there's more
- 11:56stories than than I can mention here, but it it the dream of
- 12:03driving on that quarter mile and always thinking I just want to
- 12:05go straight one day and get on the big track.
- 12:07That's what I always wanted to do.
- 12:08And pulling into Victory Lane here is obviously one of the
- 12:11most special things to really put all that together.
- 12:14Some definitely a lot of fun stories.
- 12:16We've been thrown out of here a few times, but they can't throw
- 12:19me out today. And and where did I don't know
- 12:26rankings? Not really right question, but
- 12:29this is, I guess, another special chapter in the memories
- 12:31you have at this place. I don't know how how you're
- 12:34going to file this away. Yeah, I mean, it's it's, I say
- 12:38the first time I've won here was was probably the most special
- 12:40one last year. And then my dad being here and
- 12:43we celebrate on Victory Lane, you know, we're in a French
- 12:46straightaway together. That was a really cool moment.
- 12:50This is there's a lot of moments on the start finish line here
- 12:52before my my favorites. I'll tell you a fun story
- 12:54because you're asking for stories.
- 12:56We came here. This was years ago.
- 13:00Roush gave me a Cup card to go make a lapse.
- 13:02And this is before I signed with Gibbs.
- 13:03This was back in 2004. I was 14.
- 13:08And we would just go make laps at local short tracks just just
- 13:11for fun. And we go testing with Mark
- 13:13Martin. And it was like the coolest
- 13:14thing in the world. And a friend of ours was testing
- 13:18a a Porsche for the Rolex 24 and was running the road course here
- 13:24to test. And we said, hey, could you mind
- 13:27if we make some laps while you're not on the Gord course?
- 13:29Absolutely no problem. So we called Ed Clark at the
- 13:32time was running the track was like, hey, you know, we make
- 13:34some laps and like, yeah, sure. They thought we were racing
- 13:37legends cars at the time. I was racing legends cars.
- 13:39I thought I was going to run laps on the quarter mile.
- 13:41They're like, sure. OK.
- 13:42Well, then we unloaded a Cup car and they didn't like that.
- 13:46That wasn't too cool in their in their book.
- 13:47And they gave me this lap time that I couldn't exceed.
- 13:50And it was a very slow lap time. So I'd run a fast corner and
- 13:53that's it. And I was remembered right
- 13:55before lunch. And my dad goes, screw it, Joe,
- 13:57just go. They're going to throw us out.
- 13:59I don't care. Just go.
- 14:00They're going to Black Flag it. Just go until it runs out of
- 14:02gas. So this is how I grew up.
- 14:05Explains a lot for you guys, just so you know.
- 14:08So I did that. We got thrown out and.
- 14:09But it was a really cool memory. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:15A lot of times I was 14. We were ripping too.
- 14:19It was it was fun, really cool. We're.
- 14:22Going to come up. Yeah, eight O 5.
- 14:25What made you guys want to live in condo?
- 14:28We had a race shop down the road from here and was our late model
- 14:33was there. Jim Gresham owned our our late
- 14:35model. I drove for him and his grandkid
- 14:39raced and he he raced too. And so we stored all our stuff
- 14:42there. And so we lived here a lot
- 14:45because my our house was actually in Alpharetta.
- 14:48But that's, you know, an hour plus from here.
- 14:51So we stayed here a lot. There was, yeah.
- 14:54But me and my dad were here 90% of the time.
- 14:57So it was yeah. I just ended up being being
- 15:00here. There's plenty of times after a
- 15:02race, I remember, you know, the memories just like flooding come
- 15:05flooding back to you. But to see the the the post race
- 15:09interviews like this would be watching it from the the
- 15:12whatever close network cameras up in the condos afterwards at
- 15:15school. Sitting here thinking about
- 15:17that, maybe something up there's watching right now, kind of
- 15:19cool. All right.
- 15:21We're going to come up to Bob in the middle front here and then
- 15:24we're going to go back to Doug and then to Jerry.
- 15:28Bob Parker's Fox. Sports.
- 15:30And do you? Consider this a superspeedway.
- 15:32And do your. Feelings about superspeedway
- 15:34racing that have been pretty frustrating.
- 15:37Any does this? Alleviate any of them?
- 15:41Yeah. I mean, I consider it a
- 15:42superspeedway. It it, it's a pretty unique one
- 15:47because it it can kind of sometimes you can think it's
- 15:49more like the old 550 days where you lift a lot more than normal.
- 15:54But I mean, there's super speed. I mean, I mean, super Speedway
- 15:59racing is a lot of fun until it's not like it's, it's
- 16:02actually really entertaining. And even from inside the car is
- 16:05just the chess match that it is there.
- 16:09And trying to outsmart your competitors is really fun until
- 16:12you just wreck and then you're like, man, this sucks.
- 16:15You know, like there's no better way of saying it, right?
- 16:18It's just great until it's not, which it seemed like today there
- 16:22wasn't really any big pile UPS, which is nice.
- 16:24There's a little bit more separation in the field here,
- 16:25but it's it's intense out there for sure.
- 16:29There's not a moment through those 400 miles where you just
- 16:31go all right, and take a break. I mean, it's just crazy the
- 16:35whole time. Go.
- 16:39Ahead, Doug. OK.
- 16:40Thank you very much, Joey, Doug Turnbull for PRN and 5:00 to Go
- 16:44podcast and congratulations on the win.
- 16:46That one thing I was up in Turn 2 watching and we were expecting
- 16:50the whole time. To the naked eye, it didn't look
- 16:53like handling was as big of a deal as it probably felt in the
- 16:57car. We were so surprised on the
- 16:59whole broadcast that people were able to stick it and maintain
- 17:02position 3 wide middle. So was the handling much more
- 17:06than what it looked like to the naked eye?
- 17:08Or maybe were you surprised how much grip the field was able to
- 17:10have? Or was it because of fuel saving
- 17:12that you were able to stay so tight in the back?
- 17:15If there's time, the leaders were saving fuel, which keeps
- 17:18the pack a lot tighter and you kind of have the pace 1/2 a
- 17:21second or so slower lap that just allows everyone to stay
- 17:24tight. You know, the teams keep making
- 17:26their cars better, right? That's that's part of it.
- 17:29Remember the first time we came here, it was very separated
- 17:31because everyone was out of control.
- 17:34But the teams are getting smarter.
- 17:36Cars are all driving better. There's a lot of moving around
- 17:40out there, you know, for to say handling great.
- 17:42It's not quite the case. It's quite a bit of lifting
- 17:44moments and cars sliding up the racetrack.
- 17:47And you know, I even made a mistake at the end of the second
- 17:50stage and got into 38 and didn't mean to.
- 17:52I just the nose takes off and poof, you know, I just go so
- 17:56just wild. It's it's incredible.
- 17:59We don't wreck more than we do. I I can tell you that much.
- 18:02It's, it's absolutely amazing how good everybody is because if
- 18:06you see it from my view, what you guys get to get in car
- 18:08camera, but it's different when you're actually in the car and
- 18:10you see it happening because it's, it's real for, for me,
- 18:14it's, it's surprising a lot that we make it to the end.
- 18:22Jerry Jordan kicking thetires.net on those closing
- 18:25laps there. Were you anticipating a crash
- 18:27before the white and when it came out, what were your
- 18:30thoughts? And I have a follow up.
- 18:33You never really anticipate a wreck.
- 18:37You know, we we got pretty far down into the the very end of
- 18:40that race. So you think, OK, and we were
- 18:42we're looking pretty, you know, coming to the white flag or
- 18:44looking like we're, you know, may finish this thing.
- 18:47So your race as if you're going to go to the end.
- 18:50So I wasn't. But I'm also not surprised that
- 18:52the caution come out. You know, I mean, it's just
- 18:54that's what happens at the end of these races more times than
- 18:56not. I was just glad there wasn't
- 18:58another one. I don't think we have many more
- 19:00of it in the tank. And follow up, you punched your
- 19:03ticket to the next round. You know, you're, you've moved
- 19:06on. That's that's what all this is
- 19:07about, your thoughts on on advancing and then you know, was
- 19:11setting yourself up for the rest of the playoffs.
- 19:13It's it's a, it's a good start. There's a long ways to go.
- 19:16Like I said, the the five playoff points are really nice
- 19:20and that's going to help us through the next couple rounds.
- 19:24But there's a lot of racing ahead of us and a lot, lot more
- 19:26to do. So it's a good start, but a long
- 19:28ways to go. Go next to Deb Williams.
- 19:37Deb Williams Auto Week Joy, congratulations.
- 19:41When you lined up for that final restart, was that Coleman that
- 19:46came on the radio and said his study had shown that you needed
- 19:50to take the inside? Lane.
- 19:52Yeah, Coleman and I go through a lot of stuff.
- 19:54Coleman does a fantastic job at understanding the draft.
- 19:57He's he's the best on the roof, there's no doubt about it.
- 20:00And and he's also the best for me because we have a great
- 20:04relationship, right? Coleman Coleman's the best man
- 20:06at my wedding, right? So like we we had, we know each
- 20:08other really, really well off the racetrack.
- 20:13As much as we do on the racetrack.
- 20:14So naturally, you know, we, we talk a lot during the week about
- 20:19what we're going to do in, in those scenarios.
- 20:21And I trust his studying sometimes even more than my
- 20:26studying when we when we get back in and talk about it
- 20:29together. But yeah, he's, he's a great
- 20:33racer. I was just, he gets it, He
- 20:35understands it and he tells me what I need to hear and not just
- 20:40from a racing perspective that you know, what lanes are moving
- 20:44and those type of things, but also what, what makes me tick
- 20:47and where, where he knows where my head is at.
- 20:49Sometimes he needs to straighten me up sometimes.
- 20:52So it's it's nice to have a friend up there that that's able
- 20:56to help guide you. So does he study video or the
- 21:01the track or what all does he study?
- 21:04I think these days most people use SMT to be able to study a
- 21:07lot. But I mean, just just videos as
- 21:09well. Pretty much any resource that we
- 21:11have is, is what we we try to go through.
- 21:13But yeah, Coleman, he just gets it.
- 21:16He gets a strategy, gets the racing side.
- 21:18He was a great driver really. I mean, he was right on the
- 21:20verge of making it himself as a driver.
- 21:22So, you know, I think, you know, anytime you can have that, that
- 21:25trust and that experience on the roof, that's a no brainer.
- 21:29It took me years to to want to do that because I didn't want to
- 21:33ruin a friendship because that meant more to me than than what
- 21:36we do on the racetrack because I, I don't think you can ask for
- 21:39a better friend. So it took a while to to come up
- 21:43with the guts of of risk and that, but sure glad we did.
- 21:46Thank you. OK.
- 21:48We're going to go next to John Newby.
- 21:53Johnny, we all driver. So obviously winning is fun, but
- 21:56I was talking to Christopher Bell on Pit Rd. after the race
- 21:58and he was talking about how you guys needed to celebrate this
- 22:01race and it's the most fun he's ever had in a superspeedway.
- 22:04Does that I guess surprise you that someone can be sad about
- 22:07losing but still had so much of A blast during this race?
- 22:11I think people like racing like, I mean we all do this because we
- 22:14like racing, like we like to drive fast.
- 22:19I enjoy it for the most part, but for me, honestly, I don't do
- 22:25this for fun. I do it to win like we do it to,
- 22:29to, to make money, right? Like that's, that's what we do
- 22:32it to put championships and get trophies.
- 22:34Like that's, that's why we do it.
- 22:37But I, I will say that the reason why we all started is
- 22:40because we like to go fast. We like to compete against each
- 22:44other and race. And you know that, that that
- 22:47part is, is always down in your heart.
- 22:49You know what I mean? It's no different when I get
- 22:51home during the week that the one thing I want to do is go
- 22:55ride in my quad, right? Or go, go race, go karts.
- 22:59Like we still enjoy that, you know, it's still fun that to
- 23:03have that on your heart. Nothing's changed since I was a
- 23:05kid that you still end up liking the stuff a lot.
- 23:11OK. We're going to go to the back
- 23:12right here and then we're going to have time for two more.
- 23:14We're going to go to Michael Massey and then we're going to
- 23:16finish with Jeff Glock. Yeah, Alfa Romero, Southern Race
- 23:19Week, Radio two-part question number one, do you do anything
- 23:21slow? And then #2 talking about the
- 23:26memories here of racing and Ken Reagan in your, your condo here.
- 23:30Have you ever had an inkling, an urge to maybe go up there and
- 23:34maybe a knock on the door and say, hey, would you mind if I
- 23:36kind of like, kind of check the place out, see what's changed
- 23:39and what's. You know, I really want to do
- 23:40that and I've I've thought about it a lot to go up there and and
- 23:44just knock on the door. And I always thought it was kind
- 23:46of weird to do like if someone just knocked on your door, like,
- 23:49hey, I used to live here. Can I see what it looks like
- 23:51now? Like that's I feel like that's
- 23:53kind of weird to do. So I never did it, but I talked
- 23:56about it a lot tonight. So maybe next time I'll just do
- 23:59it. I'll knock on the door and check
- 24:01it out. You did that.
- 24:07That's cool. I would be weirded out if
- 24:10someone did that at my house. You know, I'd be like, I don't
- 24:12know. Did you really?
- 24:13You know, it's a little weird. I don't know.
- 24:15You're not just casing my house, you know, I don't know.
- 24:18That's where my head goes. That helps.
- 24:23OK, that's good. Everyone knows Bob.
- 24:28They'll take a selfie with Bob and then they'll they'll let you
- 24:30in. I think that's how you do it.
- 24:33It's the goal all. Right.
- 24:35We're going to go next to Michael Massey Middle here.
- 24:44Michael Massey, front stretch. I know you told us yesterday you
- 24:48don't really like the whole even your Joey thing, but you know,
- 24:51the more you win and the deeper you go in these playoffs, you're
- 24:53going to further that narrative, right?
- 24:55I'm OK with it. I mean, it just it's, I just
- 24:58don't believe in in luck ever or just weird things like that.
- 25:04I mean, I think it's just a coincidence.
- 25:05It's like that. I hope that I always say I hope
- 25:09it's right this year. We'll see.
- 25:12But you know, it doesn't just come automatic because that's
- 25:14what the numbers have been in a pattern it that's been shown
- 25:17over the last, you know, whatever it's been 10 years.
- 25:21It's just, I don't know. I hope it's right though.
- 25:24And then, you know, Blaney got in that wreck earlier.
- 25:27And were you worried at all that, like with him lined up
- 25:30behind you, that, I mean, he gave you a really good push, but
- 25:33were you worried at all that, like maybe he wouldn't be able
- 25:35to get to you because he had a little damage or was there no
- 25:37concern at all? But.
- 25:40I didn't have any concerns because he drove through the
- 25:41whole field back through there, right?
- 25:43Like it's, yeah, we were sitting there 4th kind of saving fuel a
- 25:47little bit and he just kept squeaking through the middle and
- 25:52next thing you know, he was right behind me.
- 25:53So I wasn't concerned about his speed or handling at that point.
- 25:57That thing was she was ripping. It seemed like he can put it
- 26:00wherever he wanted to put it all.
- 26:03Right, we'll close with Jeff Glock.
- 26:09Are we all going up there together?
- 26:10Is that what's happening here? We heard.
- 26:14Mix things after the race from guys saying, you know, that the
- 26:17track looks grayer than even in the spring or that like maybe it
- 26:21is aged more. What what do you think?
- 26:24Like is, is it is it already wearing out?
- 26:26Is it going to get to the point where maybe they have to take
- 26:29the the plates off so to speak at at some point?
- 26:32We're a long ways from that and I don't know if we ever will
- 26:35because the banking they added here is just ridiculous.
- 26:39I mean, it's so much banking around this place now I, I don't
- 26:43think we're close to being able to take the plates off.
- 26:46We're going to the other package yet and I'm sure they're not
- 26:50even thinking about it because racing's seems to be pretty
- 26:52entertaining, right? So I would assume it's going to
- 26:55stay this way, but it definitely will affect the decision making
- 26:59process as the track wears. This is the the Speedway that
- 27:04you have to weigh out mechanical grip, downforce versus drag, you
- 27:09know, all those type of those things that you have to kind of
- 27:12make those right decisions more. Whereas, you know, Daytona
- 27:15Talladega is more just geared to making your car go fast in a
- 27:18straight line. So this place is it's got a
- 27:23little bit of both and it makes it a little challenging.
- 27:25But and as it wears out, yeah, it's going to go more towards
- 27:29the best handling cars will will win.
- 27:32And even today, I mean as much as we left, the best handling
- 27:34cars end up up there. So is it a leap or is it fair to
- 27:38say that this is has characteristics of old Daytona?
- 27:42Yes, just like it. It's a lot like old Daytona
- 27:45without the the huge swells in the middle of the corner like it
- 27:48used to have there and the tire fall off, right?
- 27:51That's what Daytona used to have, but it's more like the old
- 27:54Daytona than the new Daytona is right now.
- 27:57OK. Thank you.
- 27:57Yep, Joey, congratulations and thanks for coming in.
- 28:00All right. Thanks guys.
