- 0:39Speaker 4: Moarra good Monday afternoon, everybody, Scottland did it in for
- 0:43Speaker 4: Chip Howard.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Today.
- 0:44Speaker 4: We've got the writers' round table coming up in the
- 0:46Speaker 4: second hour. But what a weekend of sports. We've got
- 0:52Speaker 4: a lot to talk about your sports headlines brought to
- 0:55Speaker 4: you by Radiant Dentistry. We're going to start with the Olympics.
- 1:00Speaker 4: We are going to, you know, pay homage to a
- 1:09Speaker 4: great Olympic performance by Team USA. Their most gold medals ever.
- 1:16Speaker 4: They get the tie breaking gold medal in the last
- 1:21Speaker 4: sport that he's participated and that is men's hockey. And
- 1:28Speaker 4: what a hockey game it was of the Canadians outplayed
- 1:36Speaker 4: Team USA for about twenty straight minutes, and it took
- 1:45Speaker 4: excellent defense, not just from the goaltender who did stand
- 1:49Speaker 4: on his head, but the defense the defensemen around him
- 1:55Speaker 4: were just as impressive. And the over time, which I'm
- 2:03Speaker 4: not really I don't know how I really feel about
- 2:07Speaker 4: three on three hockey with the gold medal on.
- 2:10Speaker 5: The line, but.
- 2:14Speaker 4: It is what the rules were. I would have liked
- 2:17Speaker 4: ten minutes and then a shootout. Even though Sid the
- 2:21Speaker 4: kid beat Team USA and I shoot out years and
- 2:27Speaker 4: years ago. It is okay if you get to that
- 2:34Speaker 4: level and you know you wanted to end instead of
- 2:41Speaker 4: just being on and on and on.
- 2:45Speaker 5: It was tremendous. I thought that.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Even with some of the disappointment that came in certain
- 2:56Speaker 4: events FORSA, it showed the bump you get when you're
- 3:05Speaker 4: the host country. As Italy finished third in the medal count.
- 3:12Speaker 4: You know, I don't like them beating Americans to do it,
- 3:16Speaker 4: but I understand the excitement and the passion and the
- 3:20Speaker 4: desire that you have when you're representing your home country
- 3:24Speaker 4: and how that carries over, especially when two of the
- 3:29Speaker 4: next three Olympics are going to be held in the
- 3:31Speaker 4: United States, the Summer Games and not the next Winter
- 3:37Speaker 4: Games in France. But after that they're going to be
- 3:40Speaker 4: in Utah. So I understand and would expect the United
- 3:46Speaker 4: States to have the same kind of bump. But the
- 3:50Speaker 4: stories are tremendous. Mono Bob with two women in their
- 3:57Speaker 4: forties with their kids watching there when they get medals
- 4:04Speaker 4: and won to get her first gold medal ever, amazing
- 4:08Speaker 4: cross country skiing with this guy from Norway that wins
- 4:13Speaker 4: six gold medals. I watched Eric Heiden, and Eric Heiden
- 4:17Speaker 4: was the story of the nineteen eighty Olympics until the
- 4:21Speaker 4: miracle on ice. He's racing outside in the snow, wins
- 4:27Speaker 4: five medals.
- 4:28Speaker 5: And you're just like, this is a story.
- 4:31Speaker 4: The greatest individual performance in the history of the Winter Olympics.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Nothing can top this. And then hockey goes out and
- 4:39Speaker 4: wins the gold medal. But it didn't take anything away
- 4:42Speaker 4: from what Eric Hiden did either. It just his miracle
- 4:46Speaker 4: on ice was overshadowed by Team USA Hockey's miracle on ice.
- 4:52Speaker 4: So that was tremendous. The fact that it had been
- 4:59Speaker 4: for two years, I mean forty six years to the
- 5:03Speaker 4: day since the miracle on ice was amazing. The fact
- 5:11Speaker 4: that Gudrou's son, who they brought to the ice after
- 5:16Speaker 4: the wind, that was his birthday. The coincidence of time
- 5:23Speaker 4: and date was amazing. But it, you know, after two weeks,
- 5:32Speaker 4: it's kind of weird because you got you know, I'm
- 5:34Speaker 4: going to get back to my regular sports watching and
- 5:38Speaker 4: other things.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Because that was just so exciting and.
- 5:49Speaker 4: It just makes me look forward to next Olympics in
- 5:53Speaker 4: Los Angeles. But I'm you know, I like the fact
- 5:59Speaker 4: that Team USA was able to go out there and
- 6:05Speaker 4: have as good at performance as they've ever had. Twelve goals,
- 6:10Speaker 4: twelve silver, nine bronze, thirty three total medals, and the
- 6:17Speaker 4: Norway Olympics, because let's face it, it belongs to Norway,
- 6:23Speaker 4: that little bitty speck of the country dominates the winner
- 6:26Speaker 4: Olympics like.
- 6:29Speaker 5: No other.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Eighteen gold medals, twelve silver, eleven bronze, forty one total.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Italy third ten gold medals, six silver and fourteen bronze,
- 6:42Speaker 4: So just amazing.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Two weeks.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Closing ceremonies were good, but by that time I'm ready
- 6:53Speaker 4: for you know it to go on, But plenty of
- 6:58Speaker 4: youngsters will have have watched halfpipe, skiing, hockey, Bob's letting,
- 7:09Speaker 4: whatever it is, And even if it's in certain parts
- 7:13Speaker 4: of the country that are not Olympic type areas, they
- 7:17Speaker 4: will have watched this and said, I want to do that.
- 7:21Speaker 4: I want to compete at the highest level. I want
- 7:24Speaker 4: to be an Olympian. And the Olympics still can evoke
- 7:31Speaker 4: that when they stay away from politics and they just
- 7:35Speaker 4: let the sports dominate the headlines, it's wonderful. Now, I'm
- 7:41Speaker 4: not naive enough to not understand everything that goes on
- 7:47Speaker 4: and how people look at the Olympics and say, well,
- 7:49Speaker 4: you can't get away from the politics. All right, But
- 7:55Speaker 4: Lindsey Vaughn sang today that the the third surgery she
- 8:01Speaker 4: had kept her from losing her leg, that they were
- 8:09Speaker 4: going to amputate if this surgery wasn't successful, and it was.
- 8:16Speaker 5: All right.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I know there is I know there is politics around goo,
- 8:25Speaker 4: but finding out after she wins a gold medal that
- 8:27Speaker 4: her grandmother has passed away, that they're holding that back
- 8:32Speaker 4: because they don't want to impact her performance.
- 8:38Speaker 5: So all of that.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Is what makes the best part of the Olympics the
- 8:46Speaker 4: best part they can be.
- 8:48Speaker 5: So that was great. That was great. Aggie baseball was great.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Sweatpen to walk off wins, get oldsen magic and weak
- 8:59Speaker 4: one doesn't happen that often, but it happens this. I mean,
- 9:04Speaker 4: I'm sorry Week two hardly ever, get it back to back.
- 9:10Speaker 4: A and M scored one in the eighth inning of
- 9:12Speaker 4: Game two to tie it and then wins it in extras.
- 9:18Speaker 5: Then they're able.
- 9:20Speaker 4: To make the adjustment to how the conditions were being
- 9:23Speaker 4: played and able to go out and get a seven
- 9:27Speaker 4: to one victory on Sunday and give up one earned run,
- 9:35Speaker 4: give up four runs total in three games, strike out
- 9:40Speaker 4: seventy nine and not walk a single batter. That's what
- 9:46Speaker 4: a great formula for you to go out and get
- 9:48Speaker 4: a sweep. The Aggies are up to number eighteen in
- 9:53Speaker 4: the National Collegian Baseball Writers Poll. They have a tough
- 9:58Speaker 4: weekend ahead Virginia Tech UCLA in Arizona State this weekend. Lamar,
- 10:06Speaker 4: who has been a up and coming program that should
- 10:12Speaker 4: have been in the College rule, I mean, should have
- 10:14Speaker 4: been in the NCAA Tournament two years ago but was snubbed.
- 10:20Speaker 5: They you know, they'll show up and they'll.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Give you everything you want. Jace Hutchins, now they're pitching coach,
- 10:28Speaker 4: will coach against his father and the Aggies.
- 10:32Speaker 5: To go from.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Bad boy to coaching against Texas, A and M, it's
- 10:38Speaker 4: pretty special. I've known Jace his whole life. It will
- 10:42Speaker 4: be very interesting to see this. But to be twenty
- 10:46Speaker 4: five years old and the pitching coach at Lamar is
- 10:48Speaker 4: just a wonderful thing that I will get to experience
- 10:52Speaker 4: tomorrow night when I call the game. Let's see what
- 10:57Speaker 4: else Aggie softball just got. I was talking with Dusty
- 10:59Speaker 4: about out what happened on Sunday, giving up the two
- 11:02Speaker 4: Grand Slams on a win a really windy day where
- 11:06Speaker 4: the ball is carrying out the Aggies, A chase UCLA's
- 11:11Speaker 4: All American pitcher, and then UCLA pounded the good ones
- 11:16Speaker 4: for A and M, including a closer who's been All
- 11:18Speaker 4: American at Missouri. So that is something they'll try to overcome.
- 11:22Speaker 4: The schedule will step back from everybody being a top
- 11:26Speaker 4: twenty five team basically to having a chance to fix
- 11:30Speaker 4: some of the things that they want to fix. But
- 11:33Speaker 4: Thursday night against Houston, Houston is eleven and two and
- 11:35Speaker 4: playing much better softball. I don't think they're at the
- 11:38Speaker 4: Aggies level, but they're playing A and M this week
- 11:42Speaker 4: on Thursday, and then they're going to Austin to play
- 11:45Speaker 4: in the Longhorns Tournament. So know a little bit more
- 11:48Speaker 4: about the Houston Cougars at the end of this week.
- 11:51Speaker 4: But that'll be a challenge for Texas A and M
- 11:53Speaker 4: as well. Aggie basketball, the women beat our senior Day.
- 12:01Speaker 4: They are up to five and nine. I know they're
- 12:02Speaker 4: twelve and eleven, but they play Mississippi State next. Mississippi
- 12:07Speaker 4: State is the last SEC team in the NCAA bracket.
- 12:12Speaker 4: According to bracketology on ESPN. A and M has the
- 12:15Speaker 4: same conference record, and they're about to play head to head,
- 12:21Speaker 4: and then they play Old miss who is a beatable
- 12:23Speaker 4: top twenty five team. When you're talking that, A and
- 12:26Speaker 4: M has beaten two of their last two times and
- 12:29Speaker 4: their last three wins they beaten the top twenty five
- 12:31Speaker 4: team and one has been at home when one has
- 12:34Speaker 4: been on the road, So they have an opportunity there.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Men's basketball fights tooth and nail with with Oklahoma again
- 12:45Speaker 4: and comes up with a road win. After our break,
- 12:49Speaker 4: we're gonna come back. We're gonna hear what Bucky had
- 12:51Speaker 4: to say today when he met the press, because you know,
- 12:57Speaker 4: for them to go out and take care of business
- 13:01Speaker 4: like they did, it's a huge, huge victory for A
- 13:06Speaker 4: and M to get to break the losing streak, to
- 13:09Speaker 4: get back on the right side, to point in the
- 13:11Speaker 4: right direction. This was a good week for Aggie basketball
- 13:16Speaker 4: and and and we're going to hear what the head
- 13:19Speaker 4: man had to say because they were They have got
- 13:23Speaker 4: to be excited about what is happening with the basketball team.
- 13:28Speaker 4: So all of that coming up, but it was a
- 13:32Speaker 4: great sports weekend. Trying to think of anything else. I mean,
- 13:40Speaker 4: preseason baseball has started up. We might touch on that
- 13:46Speaker 4: a little bit later on. But excited. It's just it's
- 13:50Speaker 4: a good time of year. And I think that when
- 13:54Speaker 4: you get to this time of year and your teams
- 13:56Speaker 4: are winning, you know, you you you know, you walk
- 13:59Speaker 4: around going hey, when when can this? When can this?
- 14:06Speaker 4: You know get any better? Well, I guess we've we
- 14:08Speaker 4: had spring football going on right now. We could throw
- 14:10Speaker 4: that in too, but you know we don't. But we're
- 14:16Speaker 4: it's exciting. It's been exciting sports weekend. A cap two
- 14:20Speaker 4: weeks of the Olympics and all of them, all of
- 14:23Speaker 4: the American Olympic champions men's and women's hockey beating Canada
- 14:29Speaker 4: and their national sport. Just can't can't forget how exciting
- 14:35Speaker 4: those games were. Two overtime games, women win after they
- 14:38Speaker 4: pulled the goalie score with two minutes left. All of
- 14:42Speaker 4: it is exciting and proud of Team USA.
- 14:47Speaker 5: All right, let's get to the final app.
- 14:50Speaker 4: It's brought to you you as part of this program
- 14:53Speaker 4: right now by Chad Jones Law.
- 14:56Speaker 5: I guess that is yep, Chad Jones Law.
- 14:59Speaker 6: I'm Chad June. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 15:02Speaker 6: do injuries from car res. But you didn't sign up
- 15:04Speaker 6: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 15:06Speaker 6: paying attention. It was their fault and now you're left
- 15:09Speaker 6: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a doctor,
- 15:11Speaker 6: and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help. We've
- 15:14Speaker 6: been helping our neighbors for more than two decades. Stop

- 15:20Speaker 6: get mad. Get Chad. Call Chad Jones Law at ninety
- 15:23Speaker 6: seven nine five to ninety five five thousand, or go
- 15:25Speaker 6: online to Chad Jones Law dot com.
- 15:28Speaker 7: If you miss Tech SAgs Live, you.
- 15:30Speaker 8: Missed Yeah, great question.
- 15:32Speaker 9: So I think that I told our players kind of
- 15:35Speaker 9: what I alluded to earlier, like, guys, we're gonna have
- 15:37Speaker 9: you in the right stuff, but you know this is
- 15:40Speaker 9: a player's game, And what I mean by that is
- 15:44Speaker 9: you got to win your dang matchup. At this time
- 15:47Speaker 9: of year, You're gonna know what you're supposed to be doing.
- 15:49Speaker 9: But let's just take this to old school basketball. Either
- 15:52Speaker 9: you're going to stop the guy that's in front of you,
- 15:54Speaker 9: you're not. You're gonna get the loose ball when a
- 15:57Speaker 9: shoe and that guy, you're not. You're gonna get the
- 15:59Speaker 9: rebound when shoe in that guy next year you're not.
- 16:01Speaker 9: You're gonna finish through their contact or you're not. No,
- 16:04Speaker 9: you're saying what ain't coach sounds like you're deferring it
- 16:06Speaker 9: to the players. Well, I've just been real. I was
- 16:09Speaker 9: a player and I've.
- 16:11Speaker 8: Just lived this too long.
- 16:12Speaker 9: At this time of year, you got to give the
- 16:14Speaker 9: players confidence they can do it, put them in great spots.
- 16:17Speaker 9: But I just want our players to know that and
- 16:20Speaker 9: take that personal. And I thought they did versus.
- 16:22Speaker 7: Oklahoma, Texacts Live, brought to you by David Gardner's Jewelers
- 16:25Speaker 7: hang Out weekdays from eight to eleven on the Zone.
- 16:49Speaker 4: All right, Texas. A and M, as we talked about,
- 16:52Speaker 4: was able to go beat Oklahoma and a big win
- 16:58Speaker 4: to get them pointed back in the right direction. I
- 17:01Speaker 4: think Joe Lonardi had the Aggies as a ten seed.
- 17:07Speaker 4: You know that's a that's a really good spot for
- 17:10Speaker 4: A and M CBS sports line as an M as
- 17:15Speaker 4: a nine, So you're either you're talking about either a
- 17:20Speaker 4: one or two if you were able to win a
- 17:22Speaker 4: first round game. Eight nine ten is seven ten games,
- 17:29Speaker 4: so you know you're trying to you're trying to climb up.
- 17:32Speaker 4: I don't know if A and M could get to
- 17:34Speaker 4: a seven, but they might. Bucky's got im pointing in
- 17:38Speaker 4: the right direction, and they've withstood some close losses and
- 17:43Speaker 4: the one blowout to Vandy, and I think the head
- 17:46Speaker 4: coach here will tell us what he thinks about how
- 17:49Speaker 4: his ball club is playing. Here's Bucky mcmillant.
- 17:56Speaker 5: You're sure that at the worst, y'all finish five in
- 18:00Speaker 5: SEC play.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Do you have any number in minds that you feel
- 18:04Speaker 4: like you'll need to reach to to feel real comfortable
- 18:07Speaker 4: getting in the tournament.
- 18:09Speaker 8: I got a number in mine. I want to get
- 18:10Speaker 8: to this thirteen four more games.
- 18:13Speaker 10: But no, I mean, look, I think that you know,
- 18:17Speaker 10: you you got to keep grinding.
- 18:19Speaker 8: We don't have any bad losses.
- 18:20Speaker 10: We've shown that we are a great team at home
- 18:25Speaker 10: and on the road particularly. I mean, you know, if
- 18:27Speaker 10: you think about our road games and the toughest league
- 18:29Speaker 10: in the country in SEC has the toughest places to
- 18:32Speaker 10: play in the country. We we We've gone to Alabama,
- 18:35Speaker 10: we lost by three. We won at Auburn, one at Texas,
- 18:39Speaker 10: one at Georgia, one at Oklahoma, double overtime at Tennessee.
- 18:43Speaker 8: Uh.
- 18:43Speaker 10: The only one we didn't play well in was was Vanderbilt.
- 18:46Speaker 10: We lost by double digits. But you know, I think
- 18:50Speaker 10: when you're looking at numbers and all that, when when
- 18:52Speaker 10: you evaluate things like that, you know, if you have
- 18:54Speaker 10: a winning record in the SEC, the toughest league in
- 18:57Speaker 10: the country, and you have shown you can do it
- 19:00Speaker 10: distantly on the road, that's a great sign for the
- 19:02Speaker 10: INSA tournament, right, And I think you also got to
- 19:04Speaker 10: look at teams that are our team specifically.
- 19:09Speaker 8: You know, you thought the first four games of the season.
- 19:11Speaker 10: You look at this team, you're going to say, team's
- 19:14Speaker 10: been able to play it with a lot of these
- 19:16Speaker 10: teams that are gonna have some nice seeds in this tournament.
- 19:19Speaker 10: So you know, it's me bragging on our team, But
- 19:22Speaker 10: I want to finish this thing off right and play
- 19:25Speaker 10: well here in this last four games.
- 19:27Speaker 11: It will be enough to ensure that you get in
- 19:30Speaker 11: as good as they are.
- 19:31Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't know.
- 19:32Speaker 10: I mean, like you know, I would. I would think
- 19:34Speaker 10: our body works pretty dangn good right now. So I
- 19:37Speaker 10: don't want to put game pressure either way more than
- 19:40Speaker 10: the pressure that you know, we put on ourselves to
- 19:42Speaker 10: play well. And I think that we got a team
- 19:44Speaker 10: that if we play well, it just takes care of itself,
- 19:46Speaker 10: you know. I mean, I'm not thinking about the Insay
- 19:50Speaker 10: Tournament as much as I'm thinking about, like, how can
- 19:53Speaker 10: we possition ourselves to be in a spot somehow can
- 19:57Speaker 10: peop for a championship in this league? And if it
- 19:59Speaker 10: can't be done, if Florida runs the table and that
- 20:02Speaker 10: does or deal with, then how can we have the
- 20:03Speaker 10: best seed possible for the SEC Tournament to give ourselves
- 20:06Speaker 10: a chance here to get bys double buys get to
- 20:10Speaker 10: the semis, and you know, if you think like that,
- 20:13Speaker 10: what's in front of you? And you know the way
- 20:15Speaker 10: to do that is not to focus on that, but
- 20:16Speaker 10: I focus on playing good basketball. Everything else should take
- 20:19Speaker 10: care of itself.
- 20:21Speaker 12: You probably had one of your better defensive performances on Saturday,
- 20:24Speaker 12: especially in that second half.
- 20:25Speaker 13: Just what'd you feel like?
- 20:26Speaker 12: We're maybe some of the little things all did really
- 20:28Speaker 12: well that you can take from that some keeach tape maybe.
- 20:31Speaker 8: Well.
- 20:31Speaker 10: I think our players took up the game personal, like
- 20:33Speaker 10: and I mentioned this, you know, I mentioned this on
- 20:35Speaker 10: the radio. Is that so this time of year? And
- 20:38Speaker 10: I wouldn't be careful. I want to say this after
- 20:40Speaker 10: we've won, because sometime if you lose it, you know,
- 20:42Speaker 10: like this's a players game. They're like, okay, sure it
- 20:45Speaker 10: is now right, but this time of year it really
- 20:47Speaker 10: becomes a players game. And I want to say if
- 20:49Speaker 10: we had two wins, because here's why the schemes. Everybody
- 20:55Speaker 10: knows each other by now we know what the other
- 20:58Speaker 10: players can do.
- 20:59Speaker 8: They know what our players can do.
- 21:00Speaker 10: They're gonna know what defenses we run, We're gonna know
- 21:03Speaker 10: what they run. You don't see too many I got
- 21:06Speaker 10: you plays out there this time of year, it is
- 21:08Speaker 10: literally like who wins the matchup? Like Rylan Griffin that
- 21:12Speaker 10: last possession we went to win his matchup. He finished
- 21:15Speaker 10: through contact and got a bucket. And then there were
- 21:18Speaker 10: several players on defense in that game. They had their
- 21:21Speaker 10: guy and said, you know, coach told me to guard you.
- 21:24Speaker 10: Your night's over with, right, And that's what I mentioned
- 21:28Speaker 10: on the water I mean what I mentioned on the
- 21:30Speaker 10: radio earlier. It's like who can cut who's water off
- 21:32Speaker 10: that night? And I think that's really what it comes
- 21:34Speaker 10: down to this time of year. It's like I got you.
- 21:37Speaker 10: Oh now they ran a screen. I switch off. Now
- 21:39Speaker 10: I got you. It's over for you. Oh switch back,
- 21:41Speaker 10: I got you. Now it's back over for you. And
- 21:44Speaker 10: that's the mindset you got to play with this time
- 21:46Speaker 10: of year.
- 21:47Speaker 12: We could go back, start to get a little bit
- 21:48Speaker 12: against the wall. Just what have you seen for maybe
- 21:50Speaker 12: just the sense of urgency from your guys these last
- 21:52Speaker 12: couple of games.
- 21:53Speaker 10: Well just you know, a lot of teams wait till
- 21:56Speaker 10: they get to then say tournament, are their their life
- 21:59Speaker 10: on the line to really fight. I haven't felt that
- 22:02Speaker 10: from this team. I would say at Vandy were a
- 22:04Speaker 10: little fatigued. But you know, I don't think lack of
- 22:07Speaker 10: fight has been the issue with this team or any point.
- 22:10Speaker 10: I'm not saying there is issues with them. This team
- 22:11Speaker 10: is one of the most what some would consider an
- 22:14Speaker 10: overachieving team right in a lot of ways. I'm not
- 22:17Speaker 10: telling wins and losses. They just give you what everything
- 22:20Speaker 10: they got. But a lot of teams they get the
- 22:22Speaker 10: NCA Tournament and they're in their basketball lives on the line.
- 22:24Speaker 10: Now they are really gonna fight. You know UFC right there,
- 22:27Speaker 10: we just talked about it earlier. They wait till they
- 22:29Speaker 10: get in the octagon and they're really gonna fight. Well,
- 22:31Speaker 10: how did you train the sixty days leading up to that, right,
- 22:35Speaker 10: Because if you walk in the octagon and you know
- 22:38Speaker 10: you getn't done that that's an eerie feeling. So to
- 22:42Speaker 10: get to the NSA Tournament, you got to have the
- 22:44Speaker 10: same sense of urgency every night that your life's on
- 22:47Speaker 10: the line. And I think you've seen that from our guys.
- 22:50Speaker 10: With six games left, I told our players, let's play
- 22:53Speaker 10: this like this is our NCA tournament, one at a time.
- 22:55Speaker 10: Now we're in sweet sixteen, going up to Tarkansas. Because
- 22:58Speaker 10: to win the nca Tournament. You gotta win six games.
- 23:01Speaker 10: So let's treat it like that. So that way, when
- 23:04Speaker 10: we get to the NSAY Tournament, we know that feeling.
- 23:07Speaker 14: Remember during many.
- 23:08Speaker 12: Days that Kyle kind of gave you some indirect advice
- 23:10Speaker 12: about how to build a program.
- 23:12Speaker 8: There's not really a team the year of you guys.
- 23:14Speaker 12: I mean, what's that relationship like between you two And
- 23:16Speaker 12: is there any sort of challenge of sort of pushing
- 23:18Speaker 12: through the hall of famous stique, you know, lest your players.
- 23:22Speaker 10: Yeah, I've just never looked at basketball that way in
- 23:24Speaker 10: terms of coaching, Like I just I've been in it
- 23:26Speaker 10: so long. I think a lot of the coaches in
- 23:28Speaker 10: general that that I just never looked at it as
- 23:32Speaker 10: coaches versus coaches kind of coach our team. But to
- 23:35Speaker 10: your point on on Caliperio, I knew him. He recruited
- 23:39Speaker 10: one of my players in high school. Very genuine person,
- 23:44Speaker 10: you know. Obviously he was in the spot we were
- 23:48Speaker 10: last year with very very pretty much a new team.
- 23:51Speaker 10: They struggled at parts, and that's I think they lost
- 23:53Speaker 10: their first five or games or so in the SEC
- 23:55Speaker 10: and that right, and then they went on to get
- 23:57Speaker 10: to the sweet sixteen or very close to could have
- 23:59Speaker 10: made the lead eight. So you know, that's a model
- 24:03Speaker 10: for how you got to stay the course and keep
- 24:05Speaker 10: your eye on the prize, which is to play your
- 24:06Speaker 10: best basketball towards the latter part of the season. You know,
- 24:10Speaker 10: that doesn't mean you're cruising to the latter part. That
- 24:11Speaker 10: just means that you're improving day by day.
- 24:14Speaker 15: Sort of touched on it there, but it's like, is
- 24:16Speaker 15: there game by game discussion on like this is.
- 24:18Speaker 5: What we need to do to get a double buy
- 24:20Speaker 5: and stuff like that?
- 24:20Speaker 8: Is that part of the mass.
- 24:21Speaker 12: Shoot to this crew?
- 24:22Speaker 10: We just talk about like how we're going to improve
- 24:24Speaker 10: and play our best basketball, Like that's really the key,
- 24:27Speaker 10: Like you don't when you start getting those are results,
- 24:31Speaker 10: you know what I'm saying, Like, I mean like and
- 24:33Speaker 10: I would say, I would say that just in the
- 24:35Speaker 10: duration of our our time here, so hopefully y'all have
- 24:39Speaker 10: me forever, it's you know, so we can go and
- 24:40Speaker 10: get those ten natties. But in the duration of our
- 24:43Speaker 10: time here, we cannot be so honed.
- 24:46Speaker 8: In on results.
- 24:48Speaker 10: Like I just give you this example. We had a
- 24:50Speaker 10: losing streep. We went at george We went at Georgia,
- 24:52Speaker 10: we lost at Alabama. We didn't play well versus Florida, Okay,
- 24:58Speaker 10: and then we lose a time. Well, I guess it
- 25:00Speaker 10: was Missouri next, right, Well, everyone's up and like, hey,
- 25:03Speaker 10: what's going on? We played great at Bama, right, I mean,
- 25:07Speaker 10: Missouri's beat Florida and we were there in a one
- 25:09Speaker 10: point game, like I didn't like I played at Bandy.
- 25:13Speaker 10: But it can't be Oh, everything's great because we're winning,
- 25:16Speaker 10: but everything's terrible if we lose a game. You know,
- 25:19Speaker 10: we got to stay the course and not be results oriented.
- 25:21Speaker 10: And so I bring that up to say, this is
- 25:25Speaker 10: that we got to stay that way in this time.
- 25:28Speaker 10: We can't be worried about well, how do we get it?
- 25:29Speaker 10: By how do we get it? How do we do this?
- 25:31Speaker 10: You know, everything takes care of itself if you focus
- 25:35Speaker 10: and stay the course on playing well, you know, like
- 25:38Speaker 10: just playing well, and that means practicing well.
- 25:40Speaker 8: And if you do that, you're going to get what
- 25:42Speaker 8: you deserve.
- 25:43Speaker 12: I guess, as you guys, maybe aimed at crescendo and
- 25:46Speaker 12: continue improving the little things. How much of a discussion
- 25:49Speaker 12: maybe a spree through shooting been in that regard of
- 25:51Speaker 12: just something to try and continue.
- 25:53Speaker 8: To improve yeah. I mean, you always want to improve
- 25:55Speaker 8: what you can.
- 25:55Speaker 10: I mean, I don't overheart free throws, you know, I
- 25:58Speaker 10: think that that can be detrimental. There'll be uh, you know,
- 26:02Speaker 10: for the last game, Josh, he's just out there working
- 26:05Speaker 10: with his free throw he missed a couple of that game.
- 26:09Speaker 10: You know, that brought the percentages down. That he's working
- 26:12Speaker 10: on something that's thinking, I think is really gonna help him.
- 26:14Speaker 8: But I think.
- 26:15Speaker 10: Sometimes instead of us worrying so much about the glass
- 26:19Speaker 10: half empty, not not you guys, but just in general,
- 26:22Speaker 10: let's look glass half full and let's say, man, what
- 26:25Speaker 10: about Rashaun going up there and icing.
- 26:27Speaker 8: Those free throws there?
- 26:28Speaker 10: Just like, hey, no over for you guys, I'm icing these,
- 26:33Speaker 10: you know, just throw it into rashaan foul me come on,
- 26:36Speaker 10: and like then the next time Rashaun's gonna be in
- 26:38Speaker 10: that spot, come on. And I mean, I think that's
- 26:41Speaker 10: the thing we got to remember, is that, like life's
- 26:44Speaker 10: not perfect, either's basketball.
- 26:45Speaker 8: How can you persevere when it's not perfect?
- 26:48Speaker 10: And that's really what's gonna matter the most down the
- 26:51Speaker 10: stretch here, because it's not going to be perfect.
- 26:53Speaker 12: Darius Akov, one of the nation's best scorers, of what
- 26:56Speaker 12: you've seen from him, and what would you say is
- 26:58Speaker 12: kind of the key to learning instroduction.
- 27:01Speaker 10: Oh yeah, great player, just kind of can get going
- 27:04Speaker 10: every single way, full court, half court.
- 27:08Speaker 8: Tough. But he scored but.
- 27:10Speaker 10: One hundred and seventy five points on Bama the other night.
- 27:13Speaker 10: I mean, unbelievable. Just the players in this league, you know,
- 27:15Speaker 10: they're just they're great players. So you know he's gonna
- 27:19Speaker 10: get his. They just can't let them be easy, right,
- 27:21Speaker 10: I mean, you can't look up if he has forty
- 27:23Speaker 10: and you know twenty two, we're just like nothing.
- 27:25Speaker 8: He only had to work for eighteen. So a good player.
- 27:28Speaker 5: Though, that's head coach Bucky McMillan. The Aggie's able to
- 27:36Speaker 5: hold off Oklahoma.
- 27:37Speaker 4: It's forty three, forty one at halftime, seventy five seventy
- 27:42Speaker 4: one the final. The Aggie's just had two guys in
- 27:47Speaker 4: double figures. Ag had eighteen, Griffin had fourteen. But everybody
- 27:53Speaker 4: else who played eighteen or more minutes gave you points,
- 27:58Speaker 4: gave you rebounds, plenty of assist So just a great
- 28:05Speaker 4: all around performance. The Aggies did it in the paint.
- 28:13Speaker 4: They were they made one less three pointers than oh
- 28:17Speaker 4: you did oh you shot twenty of twenty four from
- 28:22Speaker 4: the free throw line. A and M was eleven of
- 28:27Speaker 4: twenty one of those games where they weren't as good
- 28:30Speaker 4: as they have been, but eleven of twenty. But the
- 28:35Speaker 4: ability to score at the hoop was the difference for
- 28:38Speaker 4: the Aggies this night. And that's you know sometimes I
- 28:44Speaker 4: you know, I'm watching as like, if you major layups,
- 28:47Speaker 4: this game wouldn't even be close. Well, the other teams
- 28:50Speaker 4: defending those layups too, they're not just letting you walk
- 28:52Speaker 4: in and go to the you know, make a layup.
- 28:56Speaker 4: A and M doesn't just let you go make a layup.
- 28:59Speaker 4: But you know, it's sometimes when I'm watching the game,
- 29:02Speaker 4: I'm like, that's where you have As the games get
- 29:06Speaker 4: tighter and they get tougher and it gets to be march,
- 29:10Speaker 4: that's where you have to if that's the part of
- 29:12Speaker 4: your game that you're not having a lot of success,
- 29:15Speaker 4: can you have success with that? This was a game
- 29:18Speaker 4: where the Aggies did scored seven more buckets inside the
- 29:22Speaker 4: three point line, then oh you did so just a
- 29:26Speaker 4: great job. A and M was it eight and five
- 29:30Speaker 4: with Texas, Missouri, Vandy, and Kentucky the other four loss
- 29:36Speaker 4: A and m one went to nine and five, got
- 29:39Speaker 4: a game on them. Now here's you have Arkansas coming up.
- 29:43Speaker 4: They're ten and four, one game in front of you,
- 29:46Speaker 4: and they're in the top four teams in the league.
- 29:48Speaker 4: They're in the double by position. And that's where coaches
- 29:53Speaker 4: talking about, right there in front of us, the next
- 29:55Speaker 4: game affects how we can and where we can finish
- 30:00Speaker 4: shat and how high we can be in the conference tournament.
- 30:05Speaker 4: And when you have that right in front of you,
- 30:06Speaker 4: it makes it easy to look at Arkansas and see
- 30:09Speaker 4: that in Texas and Kentucky, and then you get to LSU,
- 30:13Speaker 4: which is going to be playing the end of the
- 30:14Speaker 4: string there, but you're at their place, and if you
- 30:18Speaker 4: play good against Arkansas, Texas and Kentucky, you're not going
- 30:21Speaker 4: to give one of those back because you don't show
- 30:24Speaker 4: up at LSU. And that's one of the good things
- 30:27Speaker 4: I think Bucky. I think Bucky in that interview and
- 30:31Speaker 4: his interviews that have come out, that's why it's on
- 30:35Speaker 4: the process and not just the results. It's easy to
- 30:38Speaker 4: talk about the results when you're nine to five in
- 30:40Speaker 4: this league, okay, but when you also four in a row,
- 30:44Speaker 4: everybody was about the results, and it was like, no,
- 30:47Speaker 4: you know, hey, we won a one point game against
- 30:51Speaker 4: Ole miss and we lost that one point game against Missouri.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Could have won, either one, could have lost, either one
- 30:57Speaker 4: went one in one. Did you get better because of
- 31:01Speaker 4: those games? I think the Aggies have all right. When
- 31:04Speaker 4: we come back, we'll talk to Aggie Baseball here on

- 33:35Speaker 4: Welcome back to Chip Howard Sports Talk. Here on a
- 33:38Speaker 4: very busy Monday. We'll have the writer's round table coming
- 33:41Speaker 4: up in our number two walk this way. Well, the
- 33:44Speaker 4: Aggies did get some walks, but they didn't give up
- 33:48Speaker 4: any and that was huge for this program. May have
- 33:51Speaker 4: been a long time, I think it was twenty eighteen
- 33:54Speaker 4: the last time the Aggies had a three game series
- 33:56Speaker 4: and didn't issue a single walk. They only had one
- 34:01Speaker 4: earned run that went on the board and another one
- 34:03Speaker 4: that by scoring change became an unearned run. That was
- 34:06Speaker 4: the run on Saturday. But A and M is playing
- 34:12Speaker 4: good baseball. Still has some things to work out, and
- 34:17Speaker 4: some of the guys that are out there, you know,
- 34:19Speaker 4: giving you some some you know, some of the key hits,
- 34:26Speaker 4: the key defensive plays are not necessarily who you expected
- 34:32Speaker 4: of them be. Sorell got spiked, didn't play yesterday. Jakopian
- 34:38Speaker 4: a back issue has kind of been bothering him. See
- 34:41Speaker 4: if he's going to be ready to go this weekend.
- 34:45Speaker 4: You know that that was difficult because you're trying to
- 34:51Speaker 4: play the best baseball you can. I mean, uh, Serell
- 34:56Speaker 4: went out and played in the outfield. Now he couldn't bat,
- 34:59Speaker 4: and so who do you give the bat to? Well,
- 35:01Speaker 4: you gave it to Sawyer Far and he ties the
- 35:05Speaker 4: game and then ends up winning the game with a
- 35:07Speaker 4: walk off walk. So you know he walked that way.
- 35:11Speaker 4: He walked that all the way to a dub. But
- 35:15Speaker 4: I just you know, some of the things you have
- 35:18Speaker 4: to deal with. Well, I mean, you're not gonna have
- 35:21Speaker 4: to deal with injuries like you did last year, at
- 35:24Speaker 4: least you hope not. But you know Wesley Jordan coming
- 35:30Speaker 4: up hurt a little bit.
- 35:31Speaker 5: Coach will talk.
- 35:32Speaker 4: About him in just a second. You have other guys
- 35:35Speaker 4: that all of a sudden are put in a position
- 35:37Speaker 4: where are they going to embrace it? Well, now they're
- 35:41Speaker 4: not just freshmen doing it. You're having a sophomore like
- 35:45Speaker 4: Sawyer Far who went through personal struggles last year.
- 35:51Speaker 5: So I look at those and I say, hey, is
- 35:54Speaker 5: this point in the right direction?
- 35:55Speaker 4: Okay, A and M had almost the same record last year,
- 36:02Speaker 4: you're undefeated. This was a time of year when everything's
- 36:05Speaker 4: kind of snowballed after Gavin Garhova got hurt, you and
- 36:10Speaker 4: you didn't know when Sorella was going.
- 36:11Speaker 5: To be back.
- 36:12Speaker 4: Well, does it look a whole lot different right now? Well,
- 36:15Speaker 4: they're playing a lot different. They're playing with confidence, they're
- 36:19Speaker 4: having guys pick each other up. And right now, that's
- 36:24Speaker 4: why A and M jumped in the rankings up till
- 36:26Speaker 4: number eighteen. And that's why A and him is seven
- 36:29Speaker 4: and zero. And here's the head coach after the series
- 36:33Speaker 4: sweep against Penn.
- 36:37Speaker 14: Coach Aiden Simms. What can you say about him?
- 36:40Speaker 18: And how awesome that was awesome?
- 36:42Speaker 19: I mean, throwing strikes four pitches in any count, and
- 36:48Speaker 19: he gets out of it for a brief moment, he
- 36:49Speaker 19: gets right back into It's just very consistent.
- 36:53Speaker 18: He's just a really, really good pitcher.
- 36:55Speaker 14: What does he provide this bold club considering he doesn't
- 36:57Speaker 14: look like a Sunday starter at least in the early going.
- 37:00Speaker 19: Yeah, I mean hope, we hope you get to that right, like, oh,
- 37:03Speaker 19: that guy's on Sunday, But right now he's providing us
- 37:06Speaker 19: with strikes and giving us a chance to win, and
- 37:08Speaker 19: he's doing everything we've asked of him, and he's just
- 37:11Speaker 19: he's doing a really good job.
- 37:12Speaker 14: After the meeting and the message you had with the
- 37:14Speaker 14: offense last night, what did you see from your unit today?
- 37:16Speaker 18: I thought they just you know, situation. They hit really well.
- 37:20Speaker 19: Two strike approach was a lot better. And it's not
- 37:23Speaker 19: only just a two strike approach, not just taking pitches.
- 37:26Speaker 18: They can hit in the count.
- 37:27Speaker 19: Like the idea of the offense is to swinging strikes
- 37:30Speaker 19: and take balls. Yesterday we took the strikes, swung at
- 37:34Speaker 19: the balls way too many times, and it's always just
- 37:36Speaker 19: about the strike. It's about a pitch you can handle.
- 37:38Speaker 19: They swung at pitches they can handle when they could
- 37:40Speaker 19: when they got the two strikes, they made adjustments to
- 37:43Speaker 19: stay on baseballs.
- 37:45Speaker 18: Yeah, I mean, yesterday was obviously not what we wanted.
- 37:47Speaker 19: But like I've said before, this team's responded all year,
- 37:50Speaker 19: and their response was great today.
- 37:52Speaker 20: Travis was obviously successful on the squeeze in the bottom
- 37:55Speaker 20: of the seven.
- 37:55Speaker 8: How big of a role do you see the small
- 37:57Speaker 8: ball playing in the future.
- 37:59Speaker 18: Yeah, and we got a chance to get a run
- 38:01Speaker 18: and extend the lead. We're gonna do it now. Personnel
- 38:03Speaker 18: is everything, like it's not really.
- 38:07Speaker 19: If it's Gavin Up or maybe Currel or something like that,
- 38:10Speaker 19: maybe not that situation has to be the right guy.
- 38:12Speaker 19: But if we can get a run and we feel
- 38:14Speaker 19: like the personnel's right and the look is right, you
- 38:17Speaker 19: know we're gonna.
- 38:18Speaker 18: We're gonna do it.
- 38:19Speaker 8: It's good.
- 38:19Speaker 14: Any update on a Wesley Jordan, I know BEDI in
- 38:22Speaker 14: plated update.
- 38:24Speaker 18: On Yeah, I just you know, lower body injury. We'll see.
- 38:28Speaker 21: I'm not he wasn't He couldn't have played today, and
- 38:32Speaker 21: I think I don't want to say it's day by
- 38:33Speaker 21: day or what it is, but we're hopeful to get
- 38:35Speaker 21: him back sometime this next week.
- 38:37Speaker 14: No Jordan knows, Serrill, No, kope. And what have you
- 38:39Speaker 14: learned about your team dealing with some early season injuries.
- 38:42Speaker 19: Yeah, it's unfortunate for those guys and everyone. We all
- 38:45Speaker 19: want to see him playing it. You know, we're gonna
- 38:48Speaker 19: get him back at some point and be good. But
- 38:49Speaker 19: you got to be ready to play, and you never
- 38:51Speaker 19: know when your number is gonna get caught, and you
- 38:54Speaker 19: you get into a season, it looks like you're buried
- 38:56Speaker 19: back there in the lineup, and then all of a sudden,
- 38:59Speaker 19: you're so your far and you're up to bat when
- 39:01Speaker 19: it matters the most and you get it done. He
- 39:03Speaker 19: played great again today, So a resilient group. I mean,
- 39:06Speaker 19: injuries are injuries. But here's again, there's no asterisk. Either
- 39:09Speaker 19: win or you lose. So guys we put in there,
- 39:11Speaker 19: we expect him to play well enough to win, and
- 39:12Speaker 19: they've done that.
- 39:13Speaker 22: Coachill Michigal with Zamee Becker behind the distday and what
- 39:16Speaker 22: you see.
- 39:16Speaker 18: From him do yeah.
- 39:17Speaker 19: I mean, zan Zain is right there right, and we
- 39:20Speaker 19: think he's a really good catcher too, and I think
- 39:22Speaker 19: he can even be better with the bat. There's more
- 39:23Speaker 19: in there. He should more in practice and even in
- 39:25Speaker 19: the scrimmages. So just again like we don't want to
- 39:29Speaker 19: crush any guy behind the play if you feel like,
- 39:31Speaker 19: we've got two really good ones.
- 39:32Speaker 18: So he did an.
- 39:33Speaker 19: Awesome job back there, and you're gonna continue to see
- 39:36Speaker 19: him play.
- 39:37Speaker 18: You know, those guys are those guys are competing, so
- 39:39Speaker 18: we'll keep going. But I mean, Bear Bear's a really
- 39:41Speaker 18: good player. I think Bear is gonna play a lot
- 39:43Speaker 18: better than he's played.
- 39:45Speaker 19: Nothing with him not playing today has anything to do
- 39:47Speaker 19: with swinging the bat because he's been He's gonna swing
- 39:50Speaker 19: the bat just.
- 39:51Speaker 18: Fine, and he's catching phenomenally.
- 39:53Speaker 19: So we just wanted to get him off his feet
- 39:54Speaker 19: and get zaying back there because we tell comfort all them.
- 39:56Speaker 18: Back there as well.
- 39:57Speaker 14: Back to pitching, I believe it was no free pass,
- 39:59Speaker 14: as they should go your staff the entire weekend.
- 40:01Speaker 18: Yeah, twenty nine, What do you make of that?
- 40:03Speaker 14: And what is this pitching staff capable of? As you
- 40:07Speaker 14: move forward?
- 40:08Speaker 19: Anytime pitchers to throw strikes, don't walk anyone at all
- 40:11Speaker 19: or hit anyone at all.
- 40:13Speaker 18: They just give you a chance to win.
- 40:15Speaker 19: And then when you do that, you throw some good
- 40:17Speaker 19: stuff up there and they get deep in games.
- 40:20Speaker 18: They really give you a chance to win.
- 40:22Speaker 19: So if it wasn't for those guys, don't we don't
- 40:24Speaker 19: win either of those first two ball games, like no
- 40:28Speaker 19: doubt in my mind, I mean Claire's day. Those guys
- 40:31Speaker 19: kept us in the game, they got deep in the game,
- 40:32Speaker 19: allowed us to set up the bullpen, allow us to have.
- 40:35Speaker 18: Pretty much a full bullpen today. They're just they're doing
- 40:38Speaker 18: a really good jobbers Dagos Digo Porti three or four
- 40:41Speaker 18: of the clay today.
- 40:42Speaker 8: What can you say about he was.
- 40:43Speaker 19: So far receives he's for a freshman, he's a really
- 40:47Speaker 19: really good player when he has a great approach. You know,
- 40:50Speaker 19: shot that single in the right center field gap and
- 40:52Speaker 19: then the guy hung the breaking ball, pulled it one
- 40:55Speaker 19: hundred and eight miles an hour on a day where
- 40:56Speaker 19: it's really tough to at a home run to the
- 40:58Speaker 19: left field. Super talented, and he controls the strike zone
- 41:02Speaker 19: and swings at the pitches he wants to swing at.
- 41:04Speaker 18: You know, he can. He can be as good as
- 41:05Speaker 18: any So he's you know, he's a good player. We
- 41:07Speaker 18: expect him to keep getting better.
- 41:08Speaker 21: And I thought he did a really nice job at
- 41:10Speaker 21: their base today as well.
- 41:12Speaker 4: We're gonna hear from Nico Partida and Nadan Simms when
- 41:15Speaker 4: we return. But yeah, you know, the kind of weekend
- 41:20Speaker 4: that you want to see from your pitching staff. Penn
- 41:23Speaker 4: comes in, they take advantage of you know, I thought
- 41:29Speaker 4: that I might see this. I talked about this at
- 41:31Speaker 4: the end of last week over on techs Hags. You know,
- 41:35Speaker 4: you showed that how the higher strike you were having
- 41:40Speaker 4: some trouble getting on top of that ball with A
- 41:42Speaker 4: and M. Corpus Christi Penn kind of came in took
- 41:45Speaker 4: advantage of it. You had an umpire that that's where
- 41:47Speaker 4: his strike zone was. The low pitch was not going
- 41:50Speaker 4: to be a strike. Its consistent, which is what you
- 41:53Speaker 4: want to see. But he also took the ball into
- 41:57Speaker 4: a range where A and M, you know, had had
- 42:00Speaker 4: some struggles. But you look on Sunday and they were
- 42:05Speaker 4: on top of that ball. The adjustments they needed to make.
- 42:09Speaker 4: It took two games, game and a half and they
- 42:12Speaker 4: were ready to go with it. And that was a
- 42:15Speaker 4: great adjustment and shows the new guys, Hey, we got
- 42:19Speaker 4: to get locked in. The coach is going to give
- 42:21Speaker 4: us the right game plan and they're going to give
- 42:23Speaker 4: us what we need to do to be successful in
- 42:25Speaker 4: a day when the wind's blowing in like it is.
- 42:28Speaker 4: Soon the wind will turn around. You'll get to play
- 42:32Speaker 4: in Arlington this weekend as well with no win. So
- 42:36Speaker 4: balls that were you know, Wilson crushed the ball this weekend.
- 42:42Speaker 4: We crushed the ball would have been over section twelve
- 42:45Speaker 4: lands into glove. Guys can't get upset about that. So
- 42:50Speaker 4: when we come back we will hear from Partida and
- 42:53Speaker 4: Nadan Simms seventeen strikeouts in thirteen innings. He's been tremendous.
- 42:58Speaker 4: But first let's see here from our great sponsor's Dent
- 43:01Speaker 4: Magic and Redfield Meets.
- 43:03Speaker 23: Reed Field Meets in Delhi has been family owned and
- 43:06Speaker 23: operated for more than sixty years. Readfields is home to
- 43:09Speaker 23: award winning housemaid Sausage, Chairman's Reserve, Premium aged and Prime

- 43:16Speaker 23: every occasion, whether it's lunch on the go or planning
- 43:18Speaker 23: a large gathering. Readfield Meets in Delhi has provided the
- 43:21Speaker 23: highest quality meets for several generations of Brass Valley residents.
- 43:25Speaker 23: Readfield Meets in Delhi open Monday through Saturday at twenty

- 43:33Speaker 11: You have on of town people knocking on your door.
- 43:35Speaker 11: There are circus tents all over the area. It's bad
- 43:39Speaker 11: enough to hail his damage to your car truck, but
- 43:41Speaker 11: you don't need to pop up business pressuring you to
- 43:43Speaker 11: do something today. It' stop by locally owned at Dent Magic,
- 43:46Speaker 11: Emma Thomas Borsky and the staff assess your damage. Okay,
- 43:49Speaker 11: they can pop the Dents out, you can make an
- 43:50Speaker 11: appointment and have confidence that the business that's been here
- 43:53Speaker 11: over thirty years will stand behind everything they do. Dent
- 43:56Speaker 11: Maggi sixteen oh six, Texas behind Ducky's Car Washing and
- 44:00Speaker 11: online at Bcsdentmagic dot com.
- 44:05Speaker 24: Because life is so much more than just sports.
- 44:08Speaker 22: Pickles, pickles, I like pickles.
- 44:11Speaker 24: Joint Chip Powered Evenings forty six on his own.
- 44:29Speaker 5: Pickles Chip Howard likes pickles.
- 44:33Speaker 4: I know what I liked. I like seeing Partita rake
- 44:36Speaker 4: like he did this weekend. He did have the air
- 44:39Speaker 4: that led to the unearned run in Game two, and
- 44:42Speaker 4: then New was solid defensively. Again, He's had one play
- 44:45Speaker 4: where a shortstop it's going to be a different bounce
- 44:48Speaker 4: in playing third base. I know what he's you know
- 44:53Speaker 4: that in between how it was on him, a high
- 44:56Speaker 4: bounce with a parallel to the ground on glove. He didn't,
- 45:01Speaker 4: you know, caught in between. The next play the ball
- 45:05Speaker 4: went to him, he played the ball and the ball
- 45:06Speaker 4: not playing the next time he had a chance to
- 45:10Speaker 4: make a play. So I really like how he played
- 45:12Speaker 4: this weekend. And let's see what he had to say
- 45:16Speaker 4: after a big Sunday getting the Aggies at seven to
- 45:18Speaker 4: one win.
- 45:20Speaker 14: Nego coach spoke yesterday about kind of what his message
- 45:23Speaker 14: was after the game last night. What was done as
- 45:26Speaker 14: a collective to allow you guys to find more offensive
- 45:29Speaker 14: success today.
- 45:30Speaker 22: I feel like we kind of just put our egos aside,
- 45:32Speaker 22: like kind of like he said, like we were looking up,
- 45:34Speaker 22: like see our stats really good, and we thought we
- 45:36Speaker 22: just need to do more than what we were doing.
- 45:38Speaker 22: So I feel like today we kind of settled down,
- 45:40Speaker 22: started working all sides of the field, you know, being aggressive,
- 45:43Speaker 22: also a little patient at the play and you know,
- 45:44Speaker 22: just finding a pitchion, no keeping it low.
- 45:47Speaker 14: After hearing a message like that, how does it feel
- 45:50Speaker 14: to come through and we'll kind of put that plan
- 45:52Speaker 14: into action and to succeed as an individual.
- 45:54Speaker 22: Today, it feels great knowing that on some games I've
- 45:58Speaker 22: gone through, like I was sitting it hard right at people.
- 46:00Speaker 22: Also other games that you know, I struggled with that.
- 46:02Speaker 22: You know that was kind of college baseball. But you know,
- 46:04Speaker 22: hearing a message like that kind of keeps you humbled
- 46:06Speaker 22: as well. And you know, I'm just grateful to you know,
- 46:09Speaker 22: have a coach that you know, even after a win
- 46:11Speaker 22: like it, wasn't great and we need to hear something
- 46:13Speaker 22: like that.
- 46:14Speaker 14: So go ahead, have your home run, Nico.
- 46:17Speaker 8: I guess what'd you see on that one?
- 46:18Speaker 22: And then as soon as I left the bat, did
- 46:20Speaker 22: you did you think it was gone?
- 46:21Speaker 8: Or what did you think?
- 46:22Speaker 25: Uh?
- 46:23Speaker 14: So?
- 46:23Speaker 22: I mean I was talking with Claunch at first base
- 46:25Speaker 22: on like letting balls get deep, you know, punching the
- 46:27Speaker 22: other side, and then you know, I saw a hanging,
- 46:30Speaker 22: breaking ball got up front.
- 46:31Speaker 18: But with win like this, you know, on a normal
- 46:34Speaker 18: day I would have known.
- 46:35Speaker 22: Right off the bat, but win like this, you know,
- 46:36Speaker 22: I kind of got the box, but you know, as
- 46:38Speaker 22: I saw leftfield to go back, I kind of knew it.
- 46:41Speaker 14: Just how difficult is it to get a ball out
- 46:43Speaker 14: of the ballpark on a day like this with the
- 46:45Speaker 14: wind blowing in the way it was?
- 46:46Speaker 22: Uh, you know, It's it's funny because we've had days
- 46:49Speaker 22: in practice where it's blowing just as hard as this,
- 46:51Speaker 22: and h Pennington always messes with me because I'll hit
- 46:54Speaker 22: hit the ball really hard to left that you know,
- 46:56Speaker 22: there's a homer on any other day and uh, leftfield
- 46:59Speaker 22: are coming in on the ball and you know it's
- 47:00Speaker 22: really hard, but he'll always mess with me. Just you know,
- 47:03Speaker 22: leftfield are coming in. You gotta get no juice, so
- 47:05Speaker 22: you know it's it's difficult.
- 47:06Speaker 8: You can three home runs already to start your college career.
- 47:09Speaker 14: Did you expect kind of start like this from yourself?
- 47:11Speaker 22: I expected just for my hard work to pay off.
- 47:15Speaker 22: You know, I've I've put a lot of hard work
- 47:18Speaker 22: after hours, you know, just extra time into this to
- 47:20Speaker 22: get to this point. So I expected success. I expected
- 47:24Speaker 22: failure because it's gonna come. But you know, I'm just
- 47:26Speaker 22: really excited how it's gone so far.
- 47:28Speaker 14: It was auld like to play defense behind Daden Simms today.
- 47:32Speaker 22: If if y'all can't tell right now he's a stud.
- 47:34Speaker 22: I mean he's shown us all offspring what he's done.
- 47:37Speaker 22: And you know, people tend to think that Sunday guys
- 47:40Speaker 22: are usually like the last option. He's nowhere near the
- 47:42Speaker 22: last option. So you know, knowing that soft contacts coming
- 47:45Speaker 22: my way, we can always make plays. We can rely
- 47:47Speaker 22: on hun to throw strikes. I mean, no walks by
- 47:50Speaker 22: any of the pitchers this weekend. That's been incredibly impressive.
- 47:53Speaker 22: So you know, just any of those guys coming out,
- 47:54Speaker 22: but especially.
- 47:56Speaker 14: I mean to that point right you faced him in
- 47:59Speaker 14: preseason and all that. Other guys are finding out. What
- 48:02Speaker 14: are they finding out about how it is to face
- 48:04Speaker 14: Aiden Simms.
- 48:05Speaker 22: They're finding out that he's gonna come at you with
- 48:07Speaker 22: strikes and you know that sweepers second to nine, like
- 48:09Speaker 22: he can locate it. He can locate all his pitches,
- 48:12Speaker 22: and you know, just kind of like what I say,
- 48:14Speaker 22: He's been extremely impressive and you know, me being in
- 48:16Speaker 22: the box has always been uncomfortable at bats against him.
- 48:18Speaker 22: He's always you know, dominated the strike zone. So I
- 48:21Speaker 22: feel like that's just what he's gonna bring.
- 48:22Speaker 14: How many hits do you have off of Sims as sweeper?
- 48:25Speaker 18: Uh?
- 48:26Speaker 22: My first I think I faced him three times maybe,
- 48:29Speaker 22: and my first at bat I got a hit off
- 48:31Speaker 22: a sweeper like a little thinking to left, and other
- 48:34Speaker 22: than that, he's got me out.
- 48:38Speaker 5: All right.
- 48:38Speaker 4: That's Partita talking about Aiden Sims. Sims seven innings, three hits,
- 48:44Speaker 4: one run, it was earned, no walkston strikeouts. Last week
- 48:47Speaker 4: he threw seven shutout innings and uh allowed Uh I
- 48:53Speaker 4: had seven strikeouts and only allowed one hit. He's been
- 48:56Speaker 4: tremendous And you're right when you've got the number three
- 49:00Speaker 4: started that could they could pitch any other day on
- 49:02Speaker 4: the weekend. It certainly sets you up for for good
- 49:05Speaker 4: weekends when Sunday matters and Simms's knows it. Sunday wins
- 49:12Speaker 4: matter and he is locked in right now, here's Aidan
- 49:15Speaker 4: Simms aiden.
- 49:17Speaker 8: Uh, I guess did you you're talking different for breakfast?
- 49:20Speaker 8: We're a lucky shirt just I guess.
- 49:22Speaker 13: Coming at the end of the day, do you think
- 49:23Speaker 13: you have all those career highs that you did?
- 49:26Speaker 12: Uh?
- 49:26Speaker 20: No, But I've been working really hard in the bullpen.
- 49:28Speaker 20: I mess some stuff around with my shapes on Thursday
- 49:31Speaker 20: and that really helped me out today.
- 49:32Speaker 14: So what allowed what allowed you to have more success
- 49:34Speaker 14: than you did a week ago?
- 49:36Speaker 7: Uh?
- 49:36Speaker 13: Just commanding the fastball way better. I didn't miss up.
- 49:38Speaker 20: I missed up a lot last week, and then the
- 49:40Speaker 20: sweeper shape got extremely better over the week.
- 49:43Speaker 13: I missed with some pitch grips on Thursday. It really
- 49:45Speaker 13: helped me out.
- 49:46Speaker 14: I'd you feel in the later and innings, especially in
- 49:48Speaker 14: the six.
- 49:49Speaker 20: I was getting a little tired, but I knew I
- 49:52Speaker 20: had to go out there for my team and grind
- 49:53Speaker 20: through something.
- 49:54Speaker 18: Bats.
- 49:54Speaker 13: I didn't have my best stuff late in the innings,
- 49:56Speaker 13: but I saw had to grind.
- 49:57Speaker 14: Did you know you were working on anything special there
- 49:59Speaker 14: into the SI sitting. Does anybody talking to you anything
- 50:01Speaker 14: like that?
- 50:02Speaker 20: Nobody really said anything, but I kind of had it
- 50:05Speaker 20: in the back of my mind, and then whenever we
- 50:06Speaker 20: go up that hit, I was like, so, what, let's
- 50:08Speaker 20: get the next guy.
- 50:09Speaker 14: This staff as a whole in issue a single walk
- 50:12Speaker 14: all week and what does it like to be part
- 50:13Speaker 14: of this pitching staff and what does it like to
- 50:14Speaker 14: accomplish something like that over twenty nine innings.
- 50:17Speaker 13: Yeah, it's awesome. That's what we preach. We've been in
- 50:20Speaker 13: the bullpen.
- 50:21Speaker 20: We have to call out a shape to location in
- 50:23Speaker 20: the cow so fastball middle, just to.
- 50:26Speaker 13: Get our minds on that pitch. And you can't throw
- 50:28Speaker 13: a bad pitch in this out.
- 50:30Speaker 10: The offense was obviously slow the last two days, but
- 50:32Speaker 10: it picked up today.
- 50:33Speaker 21: How rewarding is it as a pitcher to finally see
- 50:36Speaker 21: them come together?
- 50:37Speaker 20: Yeah, it's awesome. I mean it's not the easiest thing,
- 50:39Speaker 20: and we know that they're trying, but being able to
- 50:43Speaker 20: get some runs for us is huge.
- 50:46Speaker 14: What is his pitching staff as a whole capable of
- 50:48Speaker 14: after the success of this weekend?
- 50:50Speaker 13: Shoot, the sky's the limit.
- 50:51Speaker 4: That's all I gotta say, all right, the sky is
- 50:56Speaker 4: a limit when you're playing good baseball. The Aggies are
- 50:58Speaker 4: doing that. They take on Lamar tomorrow night. Lamar has
- 51:04Speaker 4: started the season. They're five and three. Last week on Tuesday,
- 51:09Speaker 4: they went over to Austin. They did get run rulled
- 51:11Speaker 4: fourteen to four. You know, they kind of got after
- 51:15Speaker 4: that pitching staff a little bit. Joshua Shimmin was the starter.
- 51:21Speaker 4: We'll see if he's just started this week, but you
- 51:24Speaker 4: know he gave up some runs. Actually, brain Flinch Fritcher
- 51:29Speaker 4: was their starters. They used one, two, three, four, five
- 51:32Speaker 4: six pitchers against the Longhorns and seven innings and two
- 51:37Speaker 4: undrod runs created that run rule there in the seventh.
- 51:41Speaker 4: So you know, Lamar will try to pick that back up.
- 51:45Speaker 4: This last weekend. They had better success when they were
- 51:48Speaker 4: playing UT Arlington. They won two out of three bounce
- 51:52Speaker 4: back from a game one loss to that series, won
- 51:55Speaker 4: five to four and ten innings, and then five to
- 51:57Speaker 4: three yesterday. So two game winning streak for the car
- 52:00Speaker 4: Ardinals as they come into town to take on the Aggis.
- 52:03Speaker 5: So I think that, you know.
- 52:06Speaker 4: Like I said, they were a team that two years
- 52:10Speaker 4: ago kind of got snubbed as far as going to
- 52:13Speaker 4: the NCAA tournament.
- 52:16Speaker 5: They beat the beat A and M. I think they
- 52:20Speaker 5: beat A and M. But some of them have kind
- 52:23Speaker 5: of rolled together.
- 52:25Speaker 4: You know, they didn't they didn't get into the tournament.
- 52:30Speaker 4: But last year they were the one seed and lost
- 52:34Speaker 4: twice at the Southland Tournament. So you know that's that's
- 52:38Speaker 4: kind of hung around on their heads a little bit
- 52:42Speaker 4: when you are snubbed in four, I mean not twenty
- 52:47Speaker 4: twenty four and you don't get in the tournament despite
- 52:51Speaker 4: having a forty four and fifteen record that year. In
- 52:55Speaker 4: the Southland Conference tournament, they you know, advanced to the
- 53:00Speaker 4: to the first to the semi finals, and you know
- 53:04Speaker 4: it was a tough year for them not to make it.
- 53:07Speaker 4: But you know they came back last year win the
- 53:10Speaker 4: regular season again.
- 53:13Speaker 5: Uh am run.
- 53:13Speaker 4: Ruled them two years ago. That was a that was
- 53:15Speaker 4: a really good win for the Aggies that year. So
- 53:19Speaker 4: you know, Lamar will show up and they will give
- 53:22Speaker 4: A and M everything they got. They they understand how
- 53:25Speaker 4: important this non conference game is. I would not be
- 53:29Speaker 4: surprised if Gavin Lyons did not pitch again Start again
- 53:32Speaker 4: started last Tuesday for A and M.
- 53:36Speaker 18: He was.
- 53:36Speaker 5: He was good.
- 53:38Speaker 4: And you know I've said all pre season, in the
- 53:42Speaker 4: start of this season, what the Aggies do on Tuesdays
- 53:46Speaker 4: is the season. You know, if you win five more
- 53:50Speaker 4: games last year than you did this year, you know
- 53:56Speaker 4: you have an opportunity to come up with that. With that,
- 54:01Speaker 4: you know, no matter what happens in the league play.
- 54:05Speaker 4: You know, even if A and M had still been
- 54:08Speaker 4: eleven and nineteen the finish going to the semi finals
- 54:13Speaker 4: getting jobbed by LSU on a bat on power call,
- 54:17Speaker 4: if you had been thirty five and twenty one, you're
- 54:21Speaker 4: making the tournament. No doubt, in my mind, even after
- 54:24Speaker 4: everything else that went on, you would have been a
- 54:27Speaker 4: tournament team. So you have to make these Tuesdays matter.
- 54:31Speaker 4: And that's why this game is just as important as
- 54:34Speaker 4: the three they played on the weekend. All Right, we'll
- 54:38Speaker 4: finish up at the top of the hour in just
- 54:40Speaker 4: a couple of minutes. Writers round table coming up in
- 54:43Speaker 4: hour number two.
- 54:45Speaker 19: And we'll have.
