- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 1: conservation always wins. There is a prize. Meat Eater will
- 0:16Speaker 1: donate $ 500 to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm your host, Spencer Newarth, and today we're joined by Brody, Randall, Seth, Laura, Corey, Nate,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and Logan. This is a 10-round quiz show with questions
- 0:29Speaker 1: from Meadeater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Meadeater Trivia is brought to you by one of my
- 0:35Speaker 1: favorite beers, Bush Light. Bush Light, head for the mountains.
- 0:38Speaker 1: All right, we are starting today's episode with a mailbag question.
- 0:42Speaker 1: If you have a question you want the crew to answer,
- 0:44Speaker 1: then send your question with the subject line mailbag to
- 0:48Speaker 1: trivia at themeadeater.com. This is probably the toughest one we've
- 0:51Speaker 1: gotten so far.
- 0:52Speaker 2: It's not tough.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Okay. Let me tell you about it, audience.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I think it is.
- 0:57Speaker 1: This is from Josh in Illinois. My mother, who is
- 1:00Speaker 1: in poor health, recently moved into my wife and I's
- 1:03Speaker 1: place that is really only big enough for the two
- 1:05Speaker 1: of us. Hunting season here in Illinois is right around
- 1:08Speaker 1: the corner. I've been picking it back up here in
- 1:11Speaker 1: my mid-20s after around a decade of not having the
- 1:14Speaker 1: ability to do it much. My mother is staunchly against hunting.
- 1:18Speaker 1: She can't stand the idea of killing, quote, innocent animals
- 1:21Speaker 1: for anything other than pure last resort survival purposes. In fact,
- 1:26Speaker 1: years ago, I came home with a squirrel I had killed,
- 1:28Speaker 1: and she didn't talk to me for a week. All
- 1:31Speaker 1: that to say, while I am prepared to debate the topic,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and obviously I am right, she's not in good health,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and I'd rather not rock the boat at such a
- 1:39Speaker 1: sensitive time. How would you approach either talking to her
- 1:43Speaker 1: about the topic or... sneaking out before the sun several
- 1:47Speaker 1: days a week this fall.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Send her to a vegan nursing home.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Okay. My house, my rules. Okay.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'd encourage you to ask your wife how she feels,
- 1:57Speaker 1: because if it's two-on-one, tough odds, but if you.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Two are together, then I think it's fine.
- 2:03Speaker 5: So he's in his mid-20s.
- 2:04Speaker 1: He says mid-20s. This is his mom.
- 2:06Speaker 2: To be clear.
- 2:07Speaker 5: But did he grow up with her when they hunted?
- 2:09Speaker 5: Did his dad hunt?
- 2:12Speaker 1: He says he's been out of the game for a decade.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So I don't know. I assume this isn't like a
- 2:16Speaker 1: household thing.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I would ask her if she eats
- 2:18Speaker 5: meat and then kind of like bring up the ethical
- 2:21Speaker 5: question there.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I wouldn't get into debates with my mother who's in
- 2:24Speaker 2: ill health. I agree. I would either make it invisible
- 2:28Speaker 2: to her or I would take a season off. It's
- 2:35Speaker 2: your mother. Yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I think the right answer here is to lie.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Brody, it's your mother.
- 2:40Speaker 1: The right answers to lie.
- 2:41Speaker 3: My mom ate game meat. She didn't have a problem
- 2:43Speaker 3: with it.
- 2:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:44Speaker 5: You just tell her you're really low on money and
- 2:46Speaker 5: that this actually is a survival situation.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Uh-huh. Yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 4: She might write you a check as well. It's a win-win.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I just watch every single crime movie you can find
- 2:57Speaker 2: where someone hides evidence of violence. You know, like I'd
- 3:02Speaker 2: buy a lot of drop cloths for the garage.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:05Speaker 6: Bleach.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. I just become very clinical in my cleanup.
- 3:09Speaker 2: And I don't know, if she sleeps late, maybe you
- 3:12Speaker 2: go out for an early hunt. If she goes to
- 3:15Speaker 2: bed early, maybe you hunt the evening.
- 3:16Speaker 4: It could be like a fun little game.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Like, what can I hide from mom?
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:22Speaker 4: It's one of my favorite games of my life.
- 3:24Speaker 2: She's really bad at it, but nonetheless.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I think you just gotta lie to mom. She doesn't
- 3:30Speaker 1: know where you're going. You kill a deer, maybe there's
- 3:32Speaker 1: a buddy's house you can hang it in his garage
- 3:34Speaker 1: to take care of it. I understand, though, you don't
- 3:37Speaker 1: want to make your mom sad in the last months
- 3:41Speaker 1: of her life. Assuming that's what's going on here.
- 3:43Speaker 2: You don't want to get into arguments around the dinner
- 3:45Speaker 2: table with your mother and.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Ill health while eating a deer.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Let's keep, let's keep the things in perspective.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And everybody, she's eating dinner.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Everybody remembers the quiet thrill of flushing a few cigarette
- 3:56Speaker 2: butts down the toilet when they were 15, you.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Know, Josh must be the golden child. If mom is
- 4:02Speaker 1: living with him. Um, so I think he can kind
- 4:04Speaker 1: of guilt free hunting. Um, Sorry about that, Josh.
- 4:08Speaker 2: That's a tough one. That's a heavy question. Heavy one
- 4:10Speaker 2: to begin with.
- 4:10Speaker 1: All right, some housekeeping. In a previous episode, I had
- 4:13Speaker 1: a question about the homophone that is organic material and
- 4:16Speaker 1: soil and a Middle Eastern dip. The correct answer was hummus,
- 4:20Speaker 1: which is spelled with one M or two. But as
- 4:24Speaker 1: about a dozen listeners pointed out, and Randall, I was
- 4:27Speaker 1: wrong in calling it a homophone. Apparently the two M
- 4:31Speaker 1: dip is pronounced hummus and the one M soil is
- 4:35Speaker 1: pronounced hummus. Humus, similar to how you pronounce human. My bad,
- 4:40Speaker 1: but the whole room got it right, so it won't
- 4:41Speaker 1: affect the outcome of the game. Giannis was still the
- 4:44Speaker 1: big winner. Randall, you would have caught on to that
- 4:47Speaker 1: if you would have been in the room for that episode,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I take it.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I think so, yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Humus.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Humus.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Damn it. Sounded like an idiot. Also, an announcement. I
- 4:56Speaker 1: will be coming to the Minnesota Meat Eater Store on
- 4:59Speaker 1: October 22nd for Meat Eater Trivia. The event will run
- 5:03Speaker 1: from 6 to 8 p.m., The grand prize is a
- 5:07Speaker 1: $ 1, 000 gift card to the Minnesota meat eater store. Teams
- 5:11Speaker 1: of up to four can compete, but solo players are
- 5:13Speaker 1: also welcome. Spots are limited and you need to sign up.
- 5:17Speaker 1: When we did this at the Milwaukee store, we were
- 5:19Speaker 1: sold out in less than 48 hours. So act fast.
- 5:22Speaker 1: It costs $ 10 per person. And at the end of
- 5:25Speaker 1: the game, all of that money will be donated to
- 5:27Speaker 1: a conservation organization of the winner's choosing. If you want
- 5:31Speaker 1: to play, go to TheMeatEater.com slash events to register. That
- 5:36Speaker 1: is October 22nd at the Minneapolis Meat Eater store.
- 5:40Speaker 3: When are we going to do a team trivia?
- 5:43Speaker 2: When are we going to win $ 1, 000 gift cards?
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:46Speaker 2: That's the first thing I thought of.
- 5:47Speaker 1: It's a good idea, Brody. We've only done teams when
- 5:49Speaker 1: it's like ganging up on Randall or ganging up on Brody.
- 5:53Speaker 2: We could introduce some teams. We all love those games.
- 5:55Speaker 1: We do love those.
- 5:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:57Speaker 1: The Shelby Index for today is a five, so I'm
- 5:59Speaker 1: putting us on perfect score alert. And with that, we're
- 6:01Speaker 1: on to the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil. Look,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I need to know what I stand to win to everything.
- 6:11Speaker 2: How's that?
- 6:12Speaker 4: You stand to win everything.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Game on, suckers! Question one, the topic is hunting. And
- 6:24Speaker 1: as always, this will be multiple choice. When did California
- 6:29Speaker 1: ban mountain lion hunting? Was it 1980, 1990, 2000, or 2010?
- 6:40Speaker 1: When did California ban mountain lion hunting? 1980, 1990, 2000,
- 6:47Speaker 1: or 2010? Randall, without choices, how close do you think
- 6:54Speaker 1: you would have gotten? You were picking up your board
- 6:55Speaker 1: pretty fast. I thought you just knew this one.
- 6:58Speaker 2: No. No, I didn't. Okay. I could have gotten... I'm
- 7:02Speaker 2: still not sure of my answer.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Just an educated guess. When did California ban mountain lion hunting?
- 7:08Speaker 2: 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Laura
- 7:12Speaker 1: says 2010.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Logan, 2010.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Seth, 2000. Randall, 2010.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Corey, 2010. Nate, 1990.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Brody, 1990. The correct answer is 1990.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Let's go, baby.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Just Nate and Brody got that one right. California went
- 7:40Speaker 1: from having a bounty on mountain lions to closing mountain
- 7:44Speaker 1: lion seasons in just nine years. Here's that timeline. Until 1963,
- 7:49Speaker 1: the state paid hunters to kill cougars. From 1963 to 1970,
- 7:54Speaker 1: the state allowed year-round mountain lion hunting with no bag limits.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Then California made mountain lion seasons for 1970 and 1971.
- 8:03Speaker 1: In 1972, they put a moratorium on lion hunting. Then
- 8:07Speaker 1: in 1990, by a vote of 52% to 48%, California
- 8:12Speaker 1: voters passed Proposition 117 to outlaw mountain lion hunting. Question two,
- 8:18Speaker 1: the topic is woodsmanship. The Bureau of Land Management defines
- 8:23Speaker 1: this nine-letter type of camping as, quote, Camping on public
- 8:28Speaker 1: lands away from developed recreational facilities. BLM defines this nine-letter
- 8:39Speaker 1: type of camping as camping on public lands away from
- 8:43Speaker 1: developed recreational facilities.
- 8:45Speaker 4: You know what you do for teams?
- 8:47Speaker 1: What could we do?
- 8:48Speaker 4: You could do it by, like, pursuit. Like, Laura's, like,
- 8:50Speaker 4: a bird hunter.
- 8:51Speaker 2: You know?
- 8:52Speaker 4: Logan's a bow hunter. Seth's a fisherman.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So you want to put the anglers together or you
- 8:58Speaker 1: want to put an angler with a big game hunter
- 9:00Speaker 1: with a dog owner?
- 9:02Speaker 2: I think you got to mix them up.
- 9:03Speaker 4: No, I think you specialize and see who knows more
- 9:06Speaker 4: about other stuff.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:08Speaker 5: I feel like Seth's got more diversity than just fishing.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Well, what do you think yourself as?
- 9:14Speaker 2: Trapper. Seth this morning was checking his fantasy fishing standings
- 9:18Speaker 2: when I walked into the office at 7.50 a.m. He
- 9:22Speaker 2: has a team of eight professional anglers.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Fantasy sports boy.
- 9:25Speaker 2: He was doing really well, except he forgot to submit
- 9:27Speaker 2: his picks. Five. He forgot to submit his picks when
- 9:31Speaker 2: he went up to Alaska to go fishing, so he
- 9:34Speaker 2: lost that week's fantasy fishing, and it really hurt him
- 9:37Speaker 2: in the overall standing. So I would... Yeah. I think
- 9:39Speaker 2: the shoe fits.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Fishing interrupted his fishing. Why are you here at.
- 9:45Speaker 2: 7.50 a.m.? Because I have too much to do.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Okay. The BLM defines this nine-letter type of camping as
- 9:53Speaker 1: camping on public lands. away from developed recreational facilities. Is
- 9:58Speaker 1: Brody Henderson stumped?
- 10:00Speaker 3: Dude, I have a word that I know is right,
- 10:02Speaker 3: and it's not nine.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 10:04Speaker 3: It's not nine letters.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I had to dig deep for this one. Corey, did
- 10:07Speaker 1: you find the answer? I mean, I'm sure.
- 10:08Speaker 4: This is the only type of camping I do.
- 10:09Speaker 3: The answer you're looking for is... in my head somewhere,
- 10:12Speaker 3: but I don't have it.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 10:13Speaker 3: And I'm going to fight this one.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Laura and Logan and
- 10:20Speaker 1: Seth and Randall say dispersed. Corey says primitive. Nate, dispersed. Brody, boondocking.
- 10:29Speaker 1: The correct answer is dispersed.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Look it up.
- 10:32Speaker 3: See if boondocking is one.
- 10:34Speaker 1: But it's not nine letters.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I know.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Dispersed camping is anytime you camp somewhere that's not a campground.
- 10:41Speaker 1: This term is used by the BLM, Forest Service, National
- 10:44Speaker 1: Park Service, and many state agencies. According to a 2026 survey,
- 10:49Speaker 1: dispersed camping is now the most popular camping style in
- 10:53Speaker 1: America ahead of traditional campgrounds for the first time ever.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Which makes dispersed camping not quite as dispersed.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Not quite as cool.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Not as fun anymore. Everybody's doing it. Question three, the
- 11:04Speaker 1: topic is conservation. This conservation group which sells lifetime memberships
- 11:10Speaker 1: for dogs is headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota. The room
- 11:17Speaker 1: is stumped. This conservation group, which sells lifetime memberships for
- 11:22Speaker 1: dogs is headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota. Nate and Logan
- 11:34Speaker 1: locked in their answers and Brody.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Did someone restain this table? It's like the same table,
- 11:40Speaker 5: but it's just.
- 11:41Speaker 1: No, it's a different table.
- 11:42Speaker 4: No way.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Nathaniel.
- 11:46Speaker 6: We painted the walls a few months ago.
- 11:47Speaker 1: That's it. Nathaniel and his wife stained it, and Nate
- 11:51Speaker 1: said it was a thirsty table. How many coats you
- 11:53Speaker 1: put on here?
- 11:54Speaker 4: Three. Three of gel stain and three of poly, so
- 11:58Speaker 4: six total.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Was your wife wearing a mask?
- 12:01Speaker 4: No, she was coaching me. She didn't actually come.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Oh, I gotcha.
- 12:05Speaker 1: She stood in the other room and watched through the window.
- 12:07Speaker 4: No, every now and then I'd be like, I'm dizzy.
- 12:08Speaker 1: She's concerned about your future heir.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:11Speaker 4: No, I've been doing all her staining projects recently.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:14Speaker 5: When you said Nathaniel, I was like, who is that?
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 1: We'll never know.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Is that actually your full name?
- 12:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Who's this sophisticated man? We don't know.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Too pretentious. We don't use that.
- 12:22Speaker 1: This conservation group, which sells lifetime memberships for dogs, is
- 12:27Speaker 1: headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota. Is everybody ready? Go ahead
- 12:32Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. Laura says, Pheasants Forever. Logan, Ducks Unlimited. Seth,
- 12:40Speaker 1: Pheasants Forever. Randall, Rough Grouse Society. Corey, Pheasants Forever. Nate,
- 12:47Speaker 1: Ducks Unlimited. Brody, Pheasants Unlimited. The correct answer is Pheasants
- 12:53Speaker 1: Forever or Quail Forever. The Pheasants Forever dog life membership
- 13:05Speaker 1: is $ 500, and it comes with a Yeti dog bowl
- 13:08Speaker 1: and framed certificate. That is half the price that it
- 13:11Speaker 1: costs for a human life membership, which comes with a
- 13:14Speaker 1: Yeti go box, framed certificate, and calendar. Pheasants Forever says
- 13:18Speaker 1: that more membership equals more habitat, more birds, and more
- 13:21Speaker 1: public access. So bang for the buck a human lifetime membership.
- 13:25Speaker 1: You know, humans live a.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Lot longer than dogs. Lifetime membership for a dog. Depending
- 13:30Speaker 2: on what the annual is, you might be better off.
- 13:33Speaker 1: There is no annual membership. It's a lifetime or nothing.
- 13:36Speaker 1: So you got to get it when you're a puppy.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Does your dog need a membership?
- 13:41Speaker 1: Doesn't need one, but it's good.
- 13:43Speaker 4: I think Max gets them.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Max also buys duck stamps for his dog.
- 13:46Speaker 4: That's what it is. That's what I was thinking of.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Question four of the topic is cooking. This is our
- 13:51Speaker 1: listener question of the week, which was won by Mike
- 13:54Speaker 1: Batson for sending this great question. Mike is going to
- 13:57Speaker 1: get a $ 150 First Light gift card. If you want
- 13:59Speaker 1: a chance to win the listener question of the week,
- 14:01Speaker 1: then send your question to trivia at themeateater.com. This nine-letter
- 14:07Speaker 1: word refers to a Cajun cooking technique where fish is
- 14:11Speaker 1: dipped in melted butter, coated in bold spices, and seared
- 14:15Speaker 1: in a hot pan to build a dark crust. Corey
- 14:19Speaker 1: and Randall were racing, and Corey is the winner. It's
- 14:23Speaker 1: not a race. This nine-letter word refers to a Cajun
- 14:28Speaker 1: cooking technique where fish is dipped in melted butter, coated
- 14:32Speaker 1: in bold spices, and seared in a hot pan to
- 14:35Speaker 1: build a dark crust.
- 14:36Speaker 5: This is like one of my dad's two dishes that
- 14:38Speaker 5: he cooks. He doesn't do much cooking.
- 14:40Speaker 1: So is he good at it? Yeah, it's pretty good.
- 14:42Speaker 4: We do it with salmon.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Good job, dad.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I feel like salmon is not a popular way to...
- 14:49Speaker 1: This is not a popular way to make salmon. Yeah.
- 14:52Speaker 4: It tastes pretty good, though.
- 14:52Speaker 2: The last meal I ate with my grandfather at a restaurant,
- 14:57Speaker 2: and he got really mad because they blackened the salmon. Okay.
- 15:01Speaker 1: When he's like you burned this oh really and.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Then sweet roger yeah cool way to just keep the
- 15:08Speaker 2: answer away oh fuck i.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Thought that was intentional i really thought it was it
- 15:15Speaker 3: wasn't gonna call it out we're gonna.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Need to bleep all that out phil yeah.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Wow did you hear what i wasn't.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 15:26Speaker 1: If you hadn't said anything.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Can we bleep all that out? That was a bad showing.
- 15:30Speaker 2: That was a bad showing.
- 15:31Speaker 4: He's got a lot on his mind.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I couldn't even focus on the rest of your story.
- 15:35Speaker 1: What happened? He got served a salmon.
- 15:38Speaker 4: In this style.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And he was mad.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Okay.
- 15:40Speaker 3: It's okay.
- 15:40Speaker 1: You can say it again. We tried. Oh, now we
- 15:44Speaker 1: got it. Nice.
- 15:46Speaker 2: We tried. We tried to like. Talk him down, but
- 15:50Speaker 2: he was very mad.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Oh, man, there's some angry people out there right now.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Is that what killed him?
- 15:56Speaker 5: No.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 15:59Speaker 2: Don't joke about that, Spencer.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have the whole
- 16:04Speaker 1: room saying blackened. How'd they know it? The correct answer
- 16:08Speaker 1: is blackened. I'm off my game.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Sorry, everybody. That's really embarrassing.
- 16:12Speaker 6: That's great.
- 16:12Speaker 4: That's fine.
- 16:13Speaker 1: This cooking technique was introduced in New Orleans in the
- 16:16Speaker 1: early 1980s. Blackened redfish became so popular that it caused
- 16:21Speaker 1: state and federal agencies to alter fishing regulations. In the Gulf,
- 16:25Speaker 1: commercial redfish harvest spiked from 2.7 million pounds in 1980
- 16:30Speaker 1: to 8.3 million pounds in 1986. To learn how to
- 16:34Speaker 1: make it, check out Danielle Pruitt's recipe on TheMeatEater.com called
- 16:37Speaker 1: Blackened Fish Tacos with Corn Salsa.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Wow.
- 16:41Speaker 1: There's a picture of Danielle's tacos.
- 16:44Speaker 6: Jeez.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Yum.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Oh. Where at, Seth?
- 16:47Speaker 2: Picture boy. That's a pretty picture there. I think so.
- 16:53Speaker 1: We'll say that was Seth Morris' handiwork. What if it's
- 16:57Speaker 1: not Seth? I thought Danielle took her own photos.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Oh, is that in your cookbook?
- 17:03Speaker 1: Yeah, did you shoot the cookbook?
- 17:06Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure I've taken photos of her making that
- 17:09Speaker 5: same thing, though.
- 17:11Speaker 2: No, that's not my photo.
- 17:12Speaker 4: You can say what it is.
- 17:13Speaker 1: On that table, too. We are on to question five.
- 17:16Speaker 1: The topic is public lands. This next great question is
- 17:19Speaker 1: via Greg Knutson. What does WPA stand for? As in
- 17:25Speaker 1: the land managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. WPA.
- 17:33Speaker 1: What does that stand for? We are referring to the
- 17:36Speaker 1: land that's managed by the Fish and Wildlife Service. Nate
- 17:41Speaker 1: locks in his answer. Do you have this one right, Nate?
- 17:44Speaker 2: I feel good. I could be wrong.
- 17:47Speaker 1: How about you, Randall? Would you like to tell folks
- 17:50Speaker 1: what it is?
- 17:50Speaker 2: I feel pretty good, but I've been showing my ass
- 17:53Speaker 2: already on this episode a little bit, so I'm not
- 17:55Speaker 2: going to make any bold predictions here.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Corey and Seth and Brody now putting down their whiteboards.
- 18:01Speaker 1: What does WPA stand for?
- 18:05Speaker 4: My first job at Meteor was WPA.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Same here.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Oh!
- 18:09Speaker 1: Wilderness Production Assistant? Mm-hmm.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Okay. That's not the answer, though, guys.
- 18:15Speaker 1: You made me nervous, Randall, when you did that. Taste
- 18:19Speaker 1: of your own medicine. What does WPA stand for?
- 18:23Speaker 3: Yep, good old days of lugging batteries around and making
- 18:27Speaker 3: sandwiches for Steve and complaining about your sandwich.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Sandwiches are just never quite right.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Corey, are you ready?
- 18:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Laura
- 18:43Speaker 1: says wilderness. Prevention area. Logan, wetland protected area. Seth, wildlife
- 18:51Speaker 1: protection area. Randall, waterfowl production area. Corey, wildlife protection area. Nate,
- 19:00Speaker 1: wildlife protection area. Brody, waterfowl production area. We have a
- 19:07Speaker 1: correct answer in the room.
- 19:08Speaker 2: That's right.
- 19:09Speaker 1: It's Waterfowl Production Area. Randall and Brody.
- 19:14Speaker 2: See if I had been confident. Got that one right.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Like Nate.
- 19:17Speaker 4: Big duck guys. Big duck guys.
- 19:19Speaker 1: WPAs are small natural wetlands and grasslands that provide breeding
- 19:24Speaker 1: and nesting habitat for millions of birds. There are about
- 19:28Speaker 1: 3 million acres of WPAs with the vast majority located
- 19:32Speaker 1: inside the prairie pothole region. The funding to preserve these
- 19:35Speaker 1: areas largely comes from duck stamp sales. And now it's
- 19:40Speaker 1: time for our Can-Am question of the week. Thanks to Can-Am,
- 19:43Speaker 1: you get some bonus trivia in this week's episode. This
- 19:47Speaker 1: does not count towards your score. It's just for break. rights.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Here's the question. The topic is gear. The five letters
- 19:54Speaker 1: you'll find on most four-wheel drive ATV gear selectors are P, R, N, blank,
- 20:04Speaker 1: and blank. Randall, who's an expert at making bopping noises
- 20:11Speaker 1: over there, knew it right away.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Oh, this one doesn't count.
- 20:16Speaker 1: This does not count, but you should still try, Seth.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Let's see how much you know about gear. The five
- 20:21Speaker 1: letters you'll find on most four-wheel drive ATV gear selectors
- 20:26Speaker 1: are P, R, N, and blank, blank. Randall, could we
- 20:32Speaker 1: hear if someone was driving an electric ATV around? What
- 20:36Speaker 1: would that sound like? Okay, very good. How about if
- 20:41Speaker 1: they were going through water? What would that sound like,
- 20:43Speaker 1: you think?
- 20:44Speaker 2: Ooh, that's tough.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Oh, that's pretty good.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Sorry to the listeners. Pretty good, yeah.
- 20:51Speaker 1: What if the exhaust was broken? What would that one
- 20:53Speaker 1: sound like? Yeah, all right. Wow, real jukebox over there.
- 20:59Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Five letters you'll find on most four-wheel drive ATV gear selectors.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Phil, what's that called? Sound effects? What's that?
- 21:06Speaker 5: Foley?
- 21:06Speaker 2: Foley, that's right.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Foley artists. We had that as a prior question that
- 21:10Speaker 1: nobody got right. P-R-N, blank and blank. Is everybody ready?
- 21:16Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Laura says D and four. Logan, H-L. Seth, H-L. Randall, H-L. Corey, L-H. Nate, L-H. Brody, D-L.
- 21:30Speaker 1: The correct answer is H for high and L for low.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I think we had five of our seven players get
- 21:38Speaker 1: that right. That was our Can-Am question of the week.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Can-Am.
- 21:41Speaker 1: To be fair, I don't.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Have a Can-Am sitting in my driveway like some people
- 21:44Speaker 3: in this room.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Randall.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Randall still got it wrong because he had four.
- 21:48Speaker 2: High and four low.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Shut up, Seth. All right, Phil, give us a scoreboard update.
- 21:53Speaker 1: We are halfway through today's game of trivia.
- 21:57Speaker 6: Not as tight as last week, but still pretty tight
- 21:59Speaker 6: here at halftime.
- 22:00Speaker 2: How is it not as tight as last week?
- 22:02Speaker 1: Last week, we had seven players who had three points
- 22:06Speaker 1: going into question six.
- 22:08Speaker 6: Logan and Corey have two points apiece. Everyone else, Laura, Seth, Randall, Nate,
- 22:12Speaker 6: and Brody have three.
- 22:14Speaker 1: There will be no perfect game today.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Two more only?
- 22:18Speaker 2: Or are we halfway?
- 22:20Speaker 1: We're halfway through the game. I thought I got more
- 22:23Speaker 1: than that wrong.
- 22:23Speaker 6: Send Brody to the vegan nursing house.
- 22:27Speaker 3: No, I thought I had way more than that wrong. Huh?
- 22:34Speaker 1: Question six. The topic is fishing. President Trump said in
- 22:39Speaker 1: an August 2026 Truth Social post that he is, quote,
- 22:44Speaker 1: giving serious consideration to changing the name of blank blank
- 22:49Speaker 1: to Lake America.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Oh, good God.
- 22:54Speaker 5: Have you read the news today?
- 22:56Speaker 1: I wrote this question yesterday and then Brody sent a
- 23:00Speaker 1: text to our news group today. and maybe spoiled this
- 23:04Speaker 1: for some folks in the room. President Trump said in
- 23:08Speaker 1: an August 2026 Truth Social post that he is giving
- 23:12Speaker 1: serious consideration to changing the name of blank, blank to
- 23:17Speaker 1: Lake America. Corey, do you have this one right?
- 23:21Speaker 3: If this was in a SNL skit, nobody, like, it
- 23:26Speaker 3: seems like that's where it came from.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Like he got that idea from an SNL skit. Logan,
- 23:31Speaker 1: do you have this one right?
- 23:32Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 23:33Speaker 5: I'm trying to think of unpatriotic names of lakes.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, pretend this is an SNL skit then. See what
- 23:38Speaker 1: you can come up with.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a joke, right? The whole thing.
- 23:42Speaker 1: President Trump is giving serious consideration to changing the name
- 23:45Speaker 1: of blank blank to Lake America. Is everybody ready? Go
- 23:51Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. Laura says Lake Superior. Logan,
- 23:56Speaker 1: Lake Michigan. Seth and Randall and Corey... And Nate and
- 24:01Speaker 1: Brody say Lake Ontario. They got it. The correct answer
- 24:05Speaker 1: is Lake Ontario.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Did he not sign an executive order?
- 24:09Speaker 1: He tweeted about it.
- 24:10Speaker 6: No, he signed it.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Oh, okay. That's why I sent that text. I only
- 24:14Speaker 1: saw the tweet about it yesterday. I hadn't heard that update.
- 24:16Speaker 6: It's dating this episode, but yeah.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:18Speaker 1: President Trump floated the name change as a retaliatory move
- 24:21Speaker 1: in the country's ongoing trade war with Canada. His reasoning was, quote,
- 24:25Speaker 1: we don't expect to be doing much business with Ontario
- 24:28Speaker 1: any longer. His last name change from Gulf of Mexico
- 24:31Speaker 1: to Gulf of America has received mixed adaptation. The federal government,
- 24:36Speaker 1: Apple Maps and Google Maps now call it the Gulf
- 24:39Speaker 1: of America, while most foreign governments, Encyclopedia Britannica and the
- 24:43Speaker 1: Associated Press have stuck with Gulf of Mexico. Some groups
- 24:46Speaker 1: like Southwest Airlines and Royal Caribbean Cruises have scrubbed both
- 24:50Speaker 1: names from their maps and promotional materials as to not
- 24:54Speaker 1: take a side. Question seven, the topic is wildlife. They
- 24:59Speaker 1: just don't label it or they'll say like the Caribbean seas.
- 25:02Speaker 2: It's just the southwestern Atlantic, the central western Atlantic.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Question seven, the topic is wildlife. This five-word business, which
- 25:12Speaker 1: refers to its museums as auditoriums, owns unbelievable taxidermy like
- 25:18Speaker 1: a cyclops shark, two-headed snake, and blue lobster. The topic
- 25:27Speaker 1: is wildlife. This five-word business, which refers to its museums
- 25:32Speaker 1: as auditoriums, that's O-D-D, auditoriums, owns unbelievable taxidermy like a
- 25:40Speaker 1: cyclops shark, two-headed snake, and blue lobster. Nate, do you
- 25:46Speaker 1: have this one right?
- 25:47Speaker 4: I got a good guess.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Five-letter business?
- 25:51Speaker 4: That's the thing that's there.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Excuse me five word business five. Oh five word not
- 25:55Speaker 1: five all five word dang five word business No, I
- 26:02Speaker 1: still got it so guys he has Auditoriums owns unbelievable
- 26:06Speaker 1: taxidermy like a cyclops shark two-headed snake and blue lobster.
- 26:10Speaker 2: I think I still have it have we thought about
- 26:12Speaker 2: adding words to the name of our business.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I You think how we could get to be a
- 26:18Speaker 1: six-word business.
- 26:19Speaker 2: It's just impressive when you think about it.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah, not a lot of five-word businesses out there. So
- 26:24Speaker 1: Nate and Brody and Randall, they all think they have it. Laura, Logan, Seth,
- 26:30Speaker 1: and Corey appear to be stumped. Five-word business, which refers
- 26:36Speaker 1: to its museums as auditoriums, owns unbelievable taxidermy like a
- 26:41Speaker 1: cyclops shark, two-headed snake, and blue lobster.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Wait a minute.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Okay. We found it. Corey, do you have this one?
- 26:51Speaker 6: I'm waiting for Randall to spill the beans.
- 26:56Speaker 2: What do you got? Any hints? Tidbits? It's only one
- 27:03Speaker 2: of the few five word businesses I can think of.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Any grandpa stories? Not a fan of this.
- 27:10Speaker 1: He wasn't? No. Okay, Laura and Logan disagree. They both
- 27:17Speaker 1: liked their answers. We'll find out who has it.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Oh, geez.
- 27:21Speaker 5: Well, I like your answer.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Two different five-word businesses?
- 27:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Yeah, now I know. Okay. That's the second five-word business
- 27:28Speaker 2: I can think of.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Oh, I don't even know what it could be. I'm
- 27:31Speaker 1: excited to see these. Corey, do you give up? Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 1: I think Marshall would get this. Is it still a thing?
- 27:40Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Laura says, Ripley's Believe
- 27:45Speaker 1: It or Not. Logan, Guinness Book of World Records. Seth,
- 27:49Speaker 1: without an answer. Randall says, Ripley, Believe It or Not. Corey,
- 27:52Speaker 1: without an answer. Nate, Ripley's Believe It or Not. Brody,
- 27:56Speaker 1: Ripley's Believe It or Not. The correct answer is Ripley's
- 27:59Speaker 1: Believe It or Not. This feels like Auction House about these.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, I'd love to have the collection
- 28:06Speaker 1: of things that they have.
- 28:08Speaker 5: Spencer, believe it or not.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Ripley's started as a newspaper cartoon in 1918. By the 1930s,
- 28:15Speaker 1: the business was making books, radio programs, and museums. Ripley's
- 28:20Speaker 1: has since expanded into aquariums, mirror mazes, movie theaters, wax museums,
- 28:25Speaker 1: mini golf courses, haunted houses, and science centers. Here's some
- 28:30Speaker 1: business ideas for us.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Where are these places?
- 28:33Speaker 1: All over. I feel like they've got dozens of museums
- 28:36Speaker 1: in the United States, and then also dozens more worldwide. Auditoriums.
- 28:42Speaker 1: And they have an aquarium, I think, in Myrtle Beach
- 28:46Speaker 1: and Gatlinburg. We're on to question eight. The topic is conservation.
- 28:52Speaker 1: This next great question is via Nate Powitsky. What tool
- 28:57Speaker 1: has Smokey Bear held since 1951?
- 29:03Speaker 3: Now this is a question.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 29:05Speaker 1: The room has their mojo back. A lot of quick answers.
- 29:08Speaker 1: What tool has Smokey held since 1951? Very quick answers
- 29:14Speaker 1: in the room. We're going to give our audience a
- 29:18Speaker 1: chance to think before we flip over the whiteboard. Has
- 29:20Speaker 1: anyone ever been to a Ripley's? Boring.
- 29:24Speaker 4: I think I had a book or something. Do they
- 29:26Speaker 4: make books?
- 29:27Speaker 1: They made books. That's why I think Marshall might know it.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I assumed in Marshall's library he's got a Ripley's Believe
- 29:33Speaker 1: It or Not book somewhere. No, he's been into the
- 29:35Speaker 1: Guinness Book of World Records recently.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Nice.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I've been looking at the 2009 Guinness Book of World
- 29:40Speaker 1: Records book. Oh, way out of date. What tool has
- 29:43Speaker 1: Smokey Bear held since 1951? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 29:49Speaker 1: We have Laura saying a shovel. Logan, shovel. Seth, shovel. Randall, shovel. Corey, shovel. Nate, shovel. Brody, shovel.
- 29:58Speaker 1: The correct answer is shovel. When Smokey Bear debuted in 1944,
- 30:03Speaker 1: he was holding a bucket of water. But a 1951
- 30:06Speaker 1: redesign replaced the pail with a shovel, which he has
- 30:09Speaker 1: posed with ever since. Smokey said in a 2020 Facebook
- 30:13Speaker 1: post that he carries a shovel so that he can
- 30:15Speaker 1: stir and bury his campfires. And there is a very
- 30:20Speaker 1: handsome Smokey shirtless holding his shovel.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Odd fit to those pants. Yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 1: A little too long.
- 30:28Speaker 2: They're blousey in the front, but it seems like it
- 30:31Speaker 2: fits his body.
- 30:32Speaker 1: It looks like they're on backwards.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it does look like they're on backwards.
- 30:35Speaker 1: We'll figure it out, Smokey. He's being a.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Little critical of a bear wearing.
- 30:41Speaker 1: A pair of pants.
- 30:42Speaker 2: He put them on.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Two questions left.
- 30:46Speaker 6: We've got a three-way tie up at the top between Randall, Nate,
- 30:49Speaker 6: and Brody. Oh, I shouldn't have screwed up those questions.
- 30:52Speaker 6: Behind them are Laura and Seth with five, Corey with four,
- 30:56Speaker 6: and Logan with three.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Question nine, the topic is hunting. This next great question
- 31:01Speaker 1: is via Charlie McDonald. The 300 WSM, which debuted in 2001,
- 31:09Speaker 1: stands for Winchester blank Magnum.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Randall definitely doesn't have this.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Another confident room. The 300 WSM, which debuted in 2001,
- 31:21Speaker 1: stands for Winchester blank Magnum.
- 31:25Speaker 2: When I hosted trivia at the ELR match, some of
- 31:29Speaker 2: our questions were we gave people like five different. 30
- 31:33Speaker 2: cal cartridges, and we had people, you had to put
- 31:36Speaker 2: them in order of their market debut. Oh, that's cool.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Among one. Among the 30 cows was this. Okay.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Do you have an opinion you can share on the
- 31:45Speaker 1: 300 WSM after this?
- 31:48Speaker 2: Not firsthand.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I had, well, I have thoughts, but I've never owned one.
- 31:53Speaker 2: I owned a barrel.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Okay, that's a weird thing.
- 31:56Speaker 2: I owned an unfired barrel.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Janice used one for it.
- 31:59Speaker 2: And then I sold the action I was going to
- 32:01Speaker 2: put it on. And now I got another action like that,
- 32:04Speaker 2: and I wish I still had that barrel. It was fat.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Winchester blank.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Sold to a guy in Alaska. Shit thing wasn't cheap.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Laura
- 32:16Speaker 1: says standard. Logan and Seth and Randall and Corey and
- 32:21Speaker 1: Nate and Brody say short. The correct answer is short.
- 32:26Speaker 1: The WSM family is a series of short action rifle
- 32:30Speaker 1: cartridges introduced by Winchester in the early 2000s. These were
- 32:36Speaker 1: made to rival traditional long action Magnum ballistics in a
- 32:39Speaker 1: short action gun. Of the newly formed cartridges, the 300WSM
- 32:44Speaker 1: became the most popular. To see how it stacks up
- 32:47Speaker 1: against more conventional rounds, go read Jordan Siller's article on
- 32:50Speaker 1: TheMeatEater.com called Caliber Battle, 30-odd-six Springfield versus 300 Winchester Short Magnum.
- 32:57Speaker 1: All right, here's a correct answer review so far. One
- 33:00Speaker 1: was 1990. Two, dispersed camping. Three, pheasants forever. Four, blackened fish. Five,
- 33:07Speaker 1: waterfowl production area. Six, Lake Ontario. Seven, Ripley's Believe It
- 33:13Speaker 1: or Not. Eight, Shovel. Nine, Winchester Short Magnum. Phil, scoreboard update.
- 33:21Speaker 6: Randall, Nate, and Brody all got that one correct, so
- 33:23Speaker 6: they're still tied up. Now with seven points, Seth is
- 33:26Speaker 6: just behind them with six.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Question 10. The topic is fishing.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Oh, classic, man.
- 33:33Speaker 4: I knew it.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Wells catfish have been compared to killer whales because of
- 33:40Speaker 1: how they haunt their six-letter prey on the banks of
- 33:44Speaker 1: France's Tarn River. Brody had his answer before I finished
- 33:49Speaker 1: the question. If Brody can get this one right and
- 33:52Speaker 1: Nate and Randall can get it wrong, he will be
- 33:55Speaker 1: today's victor.
- 33:56Speaker 4: That Pheasants Forever question's haunting me.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Welles catfish have been compared to killer whales because of
- 34:04Speaker 1: how they haunt their six-letter prey on the banks of
- 34:07Speaker 1: France's Tarn River. Seth, do you have this one right?
- 34:12Speaker 4: I don't know, but I've seen a video before.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:16Speaker 4: I think that's somehow a hint. Now I know.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Oh, really?
- 34:20Speaker 1: No.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Whales catfish have been compared to killer whales because of
- 34:28Speaker 1: how they haunt their six-letter prey on the banks of
- 34:32Speaker 1: France's Tarn River.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Six-letter prey.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Seth is watching every move that Randall makes. He'll be
- 34:41Speaker 1: watching you. Every step you take, every breath you make.
- 34:46Speaker 4: I got to think about it for a second.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I'll show you.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Six-letter prey on the banks of France's Tarn River. Do
- 34:57Speaker 1: you have an answer, Randall?
- 34:59Speaker 2: Not yet. I mean, I'm thinking of things that live
- 35:02Speaker 2: by rivers.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Okay. Corey thinks he has it right now. I do.
- 35:08Speaker 4: I got less pressure against me, though.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Nate needs to get this to stay even with Brody. Nate,
- 35:13Speaker 1: do you have an answer?
- 35:14Speaker 4: I got an answer, but I don't like it.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 35:16Speaker 1: It's a six-letter answer.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Is it singular?
- 35:19Speaker 1: Not giving you any more hints. Whale's catfish have been
- 35:23Speaker 1: compared to killer whales because of how they hunt their
- 35:26Speaker 1: six-letter prey on the banks of France's Tarn River. Brody's
- 35:29Speaker 1: in great spirits over here. He's doing a little jig.
- 35:33Speaker 6: Maybe I got it wrong.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Maybe I'm way off. But I'll go down knowing I'm
- 35:38Speaker 3: an angler unlike Nate.
- 35:42Speaker 4: You got me.
- 35:44Speaker 1: How's it looking over there, Seth?
- 35:46Speaker 2: It's not great.
- 35:47Speaker 4: He should be.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Turning red at any moment.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Okay.
- 35:50Speaker 2: No, I don't care.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 35:55Speaker 4: Give me like 10 seconds.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Okay.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Laura, do you have this one right? No.
- 36:00Speaker 4: I'm pulling for you, Randall.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Boy, it's been a while.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Since that number 10 fishing question came through for me.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:08Speaker 2: The tough thing is I've been thinking about whales a lot.
- 36:11Speaker 2: I actually saw some at a fish market.
- 36:14Speaker 1: A whale's catfish?
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yeah, some smaller ones. Okay. Two and three footers.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 36:19Speaker 2: But I've been thinking about them a lot.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Hmm. Do you give up now?
- 36:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Nate?
- 36:29Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Laura, without an answer,
- 36:33Speaker 1: Logan says shrimp. Seth says pigeon. Randall, rabbit. Corey, salmon. Nate, turtle. Brody, pigeon.
- 36:44Speaker 1: The correct answer is pigeon. Oh. Brody got that one right,
- 36:50Speaker 1: making him today's big winner with eight correct answers. And Seth,
- 36:54Speaker 1: he's going to tie for second place. You said you'd
- 36:56Speaker 1: tie me today. Yeah.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Remember that?
- 36:58Speaker 4: I knew this was rigged.
- 36:59Speaker 2: It was a good job.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Growing up to nine feet long and 300 pounds, the
- 37:03Speaker 1: Wells catfish is Europe's biggest freshwater fish. They are native
- 37:07Speaker 1: to Eastern Europe and Western Asia, but have been introduced
- 37:10Speaker 1: to waters across both continents. Wells were put in the
- 37:14Speaker 1: Tarn River in the early 1980s, and have been flourishing
- 37:17Speaker 1: there ever since. That unique population is famous for hunting
- 37:21Speaker 1: pigeons on shore. The catfish will wait in shallow water,
- 37:24Speaker 1: then propel themselves onto dry land to grab a pigeon
- 37:27Speaker 1: before slithering back into the river. A 2011 study filmed
- 37:31Speaker 1: 54 of these encounters, of which 28% were successful. This
- 37:36Speaker 1: type of Welsh catfish behavior has rarely been seen elsewhere.
- 37:40Speaker 1: So 28% of the time when one of those things
- 37:42Speaker 1: goes for a pigeon on dry land, they eat that pigeon.
- 37:47Speaker 2: I knew it was a bird, but I just couldn't
- 37:49Speaker 2: think of a six-letter bird. I was going through ducklings
- 37:52Speaker 2: and ducks. Yeah, because I told you I couldn't think
- 37:56Speaker 2: of a six-letter bird. Would I should have put down
- 37:58Speaker 2: a five-letter bird?
- 38:00Speaker 1: All right, Brody is today's winner. Eight correct answers.
- 38:02Speaker 5: Do you think there's any correlation between the heat in
- 38:05Speaker 5: this room and like the angstiness?
- 38:06Speaker 1: There might be.
- 38:07Speaker 2: No, it has to do with deadlines.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Brody, $ 500 donation. What's it going to be?
- 38:13Speaker 3: Oh, let's go to Pheasants Unlimited.
- 38:16Speaker 1: I mean, Pheasants Forever. Pheasants Forever, PF. $ 500 could buy
- 38:21Speaker 1: you a lifetime dog membership. Join us next week for
- 38:25Speaker 1: more meat eater trivia. The only game show where conservation
